La Sombra del Pasado #78 6/4/15

I thought this episode was going to be great...and then they just started talking a lot.

Valeria confronts Cris. How dare he sleep with her while he was married to Aldonza? If she had known that she would never have slept with him. She's no one's plato de segunda mesa (second choice so to speak.) Cris tries to apologize and explain that he was drunk and had just found out that Aldonza was his sister. Val doesn't want his excuses. He used her. He sought her out knowing she was in love with him and wouldn't turn him down. He took advantage of her feelings. He apologizes, but she doesn't accept it. He humiliated her and treated her poorly. She only hopes that are no "consequences" from their night of passion.

Mudo and Jacinto are on their way to kill Solitario. Emanuel and Joaquin are already there trying to FREE SOLITARIO. Eman and Joaquin knock Mudo and Jacinto out and try to make a get away with the horse. Melesio and a shotgun puts a stop to it.

Pato and Slivia hang out in front of Irma's shop and babble (something about lamps?) Slivia is tired of it and tells him to stop acting like a 12 year old and just go talk to Lola. Pato is just following along with the idea Mari gave him. Lola and Irma close up shop. I guess Mari's plan was to casually run into Lola and act like he doesn't give a fig about her since  that's what Pato proceeds to do.

Mel tells the bandits to remove their masks. Which they do. Eman tries to explain, but Mel doesn't want to hear it. Eman tells him Sev ordered that Mudo and Jacinto kill the horse. Sev doesn't want to sell the horse to Eman, so he ordered him killed. Mel can't believe that. Sev wouldn't have a horse killed for such a dumb reason. Maybe the horse is sick. Eman says Solitario is not sick, and he's taking the horse. Mel is shocked. He shoots into the air. Sev and Cris hear the shots from the house. They go to investigate.

Mel realizes that Mudo and Jacinto didn't see faces of the robbers.

Eman and Joaquin take Solitario to El Santuario. They bang on the door until Camilo answers. They need him to open the stables. Aldonza arrives. Eman goes to put Solitario away and Joaquin enters the house with Aldonza to explain everything.

At Las Animas Mel explains that Solitario was stolen and Mel couldn't catch up with them. He wasn't able to see them either. Sev knows exactly who it was. He orders everyone to saddle up. (Emanuel didn't think Sev would figure it out?) Sev double checks with Mel-"You're sure you didn't see them?" Mel answers no.

The folks at El Santuario are in a panic. How could Eman bring the horse there? It will cause problems. Aldonza declares that the horse will stay. Aldonza tells Camilo to get the guns ready. Eman doesn't know how to repay Aldonza. She tells him they need more men in the house. He can repay her by staying at the house while he cares for the horse. Lola gets pretty excited. Adelina agrees to let him stay. Eman is thrilled.

The posse arrives. Sev demands his horse back. Camilo doesn't know what he's talking about. Sev says he knows Eman had to have gone to El Santuario after taking the horse. Camilo claims there is no Emanuel and no horse. Seve demands they open the stable. Camilo refuses. Sev threatens. They will open the stables por las buenas o las malas (nicely or suffer the consequences if they refuse.) Eman fires off his shotgun from the porch. Sev doesn't flinch. They're armed, too. Cris tries to talk to Eman. Sev wants his horse back. He wants to know what Eman is doing here that time of night if he didn't steal the horse and bring it here. Aldonza comes out and says Eman lives there. Sev wants his horse and he'll press charges. Aldonza tells him fine, go do that. Sev calls her a damn whore. Cris realizes things are getting out of control and asks everyone to drop their weapons. Aldonza does the same. Cris suggests they leave. Crisis averted.

Uriel talks to the detective again. He wants Sev to pay for what he did to Abelardo. The detective explains that they have no proof. Uriel says the witness heard Sev give the order. The detective corrects him. The witness only heard one end of the conversation and is only assuming it was Sev. It's the witness's word against Severiano Mendoza's word. Uriel brings up Sev's gun and the detective reminds him that they've already proven that Abelardo stole the gun. Abelardo was an adult and knew what he was doing when he got involved with Sev. He knew the risk. Abelardo era incondicional del Sr. Mendoza (was Sr. Mendoza's yes man.) Uriel says the whole town is mistaken about Sev. The detective thinks that may be, but without proof, there is nothing they can do.

Sev is pissed about the robbery and is still yelling up a storm as he and Cris return to Las Animas. Cris doesn't think Aldonza had anything to do with it and Sev tells him not to be naive. She received them with guns! Cris reminds his dad that they arrived armed as well. Sev changes the subject and asks what Cris found out at the municipal water office. Cris explains that unti the repairs are made, water is going to be rationed. Sev is not happy with that. Cris wants to advise the hacienda staff to conserve water. Sev has a better idea. They will divert (desviar) the irrigation channel/ditch (cauce) that feeds el Santuario. Cris tells him they can't do that. Sev says they are HIS lands (referring to El Santuario) and he can do what he wants with them. Cris says Aldonza will never allow it. Sev isn't going to ask. It's HIS water.

And really that was most of the excitement tonight.

Eman thanks Joaquin for all he's done. Joaquin tells him to get Cris to help get the horse's papers and to get Solitario to a vet ASAP...but not a vet from Santa Lucia. (Wow, is it just me or has Joquin's Spain-ish accent gotten stronger?)

Val drops Pru off at the bus station. Val tells her that Cande and Sev will support her and that the divorce is already in the works. She also tells Pru that Aldonza is Sev's child. Cande has already made sure that the DNA test will come out in their favor. Pru wonders how long this will all take. Val can't marry until he's divorced and she's going to be showing soon. All Val can do is wait. She can't tell Cris she's pregnant yet. She has to wait a reasonable amount of time. Val gets giggly thinking about the look on Aldonza's face when she finds out Val is pregnant with Cris's child.

Sev talks to an engineer and asks him to check things out and give him an estimate. They will meet later. Hum comes to see him. Sev tells Hum he told Padre J everything the confessional. Hum cares for Eman and doesn't want to hurt him. What would Eman do if he found out Hum did nothing to make Sev recognize his son legally? Hum thinks Eman should have the same rights as Cris. Sev tells Hum about the horse thievery. Sev is going to prove it and make him pay. He makes some crack about Eman's poor behavior coming from his mother's side of the family. If Hum really wants to help Eman, he'll convince him to give back the horse.

I know I should spend more time on it, but I have to RPC the Joaquin/Adelina stuff. She runs into Joaquin and Ray in the park. Joaquin tells her that he's always wanted her and she'll be a good mother to Ray. Adelina says Flavia will always be the mother of Ray. Joaquin gives her a ride back to Las Animas. He's always loved her and kisses her. She later tells Aldonza that was her FIRST KISS IN HER LIFE. Oy vey. Eye roll and and RPC.

Tomas's parents are also at the bus station. What a coincidence! Pru is here! Pru explains about her retreat. Tomas's mom has always wanted to go on one of those. Oh, shucks. If Pru had known, she would have invited her. Nameless mom says she could go. It's not too late to get a ticket. Tomas and Pru squirm out of that and skedaddle to to get on the bus.

Lola goes to see her grandparents. Cris asks her if Emanuel took the horse. She asks him if he'll keep it a secret and not tell anyone if she answers. Well, that pretty much gives it away, doesn't it? Cris promises to not rat out Lola and to try to help Eman. She prays that God forgive her for being a gossip...but He *did* make her that way. She tells Cris that Sev was going to sacrifice the horse rather than sell it to Eman.

Mel wants larger helpings. Lola comes to talk to them and check on Mel. They ask if she's seen Sim/Viv again. Lola hasn't since the day she came by the shop to say goodbye. They also ask if she knew Sim/Viv was Sev's "special friend". Lola admits to seeing the two of them kissing.

Eman and Joaquin lunch and talk. Eman doesn't see how a woman could leave her child. Then the talk about Adelina. Joaquin doesn't kiss and tell, but he's loved Adelina since he first saw her.

Mel asks Lola about the happenings at El Santuario. She tells him that Eman is now working there. But that's really the only news. Mel pushes for more info. I'm distracted by Lola's tortilla eating. Lola doesn't give away any information. After she leaves, Mel is proud of her for having become a girl who learned to guadar lealtades(maybe? The captions said guadarle al cables...which makes no sense to me and didn't sound like that when I closed my eyes and just listened….anyway, I'm thinking he meant something like she knew to whom to be loyal.)

Aldonza asks Adelina not to give up Joaquin for her.

Eman plans to enter Solitario in a competition in San Miguel. Eman tries to order a bottle of tequila. Joaquin stops him and tells him to lighten up on his drinking. And he warns Eman not to play Mari and Lola again. Eman grumbles about how short-lived happiness is. Joaquin lectures him. Happiness is about one's attitude. Eman can be happy if he chooses to be. Eman still says happiness is short lived. He is so Roberta's child.

Pru talks to Hum on the phone. He needs to pressure Cris to marry Val. Hopefully Val won't end up pregnant. The whole time Tomas is kissing and nibbling on her. They start getting it on and there's a knock at the door. Tomas is annoyed, but Pru explains she ordered champagne. Has Tomas ever had any? No. But he's had sidra

Cris comes to see Sev and asks what Hum had to say. Sev claims the "episode" was gastritis. Sev is touched that Cris is so worried about him. Cris says of course. He's his dad, no matter what problems they've had. They talk about Aldonza. Even if she wasn't Sev's, he wouldn't want Cris to be with her. Sev regrets his dalliance with Roberta and doesn't want Cris to do the same. Cris thinks it's a little unfair that he and Aldonza have to be apart because of something they didn't do. Sev wishes things were different. He hates that his son has to carry around his father's sins. This is interrupted by a call from Sim/Viv. It's urgent she speaks to him. He hangs up on her. He dismisses Cris.

Aldonza thinks about the night she swears Cris snuck into her room. Eman comes to say goodnight and she tells him about. Eman says that's impossible...unless Cris is a ghost and can walk through walls.

Pru and Tomas post flagrante delicto. She always thought you only saw fireworks on national holidays. Is this what it feels like when you make love? She's never felt this way in all her life. Tomas asks "never?" He hasn't felt that way either. They snuggle and look like they are going to cry.

Recently I read the following comment on Caray:

"I possibly do not understand all the secret unwritten rules here. "

The rules aren't secret and they've all been put in writing. They were all created by Jane, our BlogMom. They are as follows:

1. No spoilers. A spoiler contains any comment that alludes to something that will happen in upcoming episodes. We are often weeks behind the Mexico broadcasts and those can often be found online. If you've watched ahead, refrain from saying anything about what's coming. Even "I've watched ahead and you won't believe what's going to happen" is considered a spoiler. Stick to the episode we are discussing.

2. No talking about the actors' personal lives.

3. Acknowledge the recap, but don't criticize it or the recapper. Please see this post about the care and feeding of a recapper and this post about etiquette.

It doesn't matter if you read the recap or not. It doesn't matter if the recap 5,000 words or 500, someone watched the show, translated the episode from Spanish to English, wrote a summary and posted it for you so you would have a space to talk with others about the show. If you can't think of what to say, "thank you." is sufficient. Adulation is optional.

We welcome your comments. The more the merrier, but please follow the guidelines. If you are an Anon, please consider signing off with some sort of handle. It's so much nicer to address a name than "Anon12:43"

Ooh! Recap's up! Thank you Sara! More later (phone call) but you sure called it about Pru not being satisfied: apparently Tomas took her and himself to never before experienced heights! Oh boy, Pru is going to fall hard when this is discovered and it's going to be even more bitter for her as she may end up really falling for Tomas. I could almost emphatize with her but she took ANOTHER dig at Aldonza's virtue while talking to Hum even as he noted that it turns out Aldonza was more decent than their own "princess."

Will finish reading after the phone call. Thanks, girl!

I agree with this 100%. Have fun people. I am :-)

Wow, two nights in a row, thank you Sara.

This was a filler episode for sure. No one got shot, Cande's braids did not come undone, Sev didn't shoot himself in the foot, Tomas didn't have to take his mother with him on the trip, etc., etc.!

So, Sev is going to divert the water supply. The whole town will hate him for this, I hope.

Sev has so few employees, how does he get away with everything. Does he have enough money to bribe all of SL?

Rosemary Primera

Pru digs at Aldonza every chance she gets.

I just realized that this was a Cande free episode.

I wish they would clear up Sev's net worth. Las Animas belongs to Cande and I can't imagine she's let him control the money all this time. And everyone makes it sound like Eman is entitled to whatever Sev has. What exactly is that? I feel like I've totally missed something.

Sara- You are a recapping machine this week! Just got home, so haven't seen the episode. Sure sounds like a LOT happened to me, but if you guys say it was filler, ok. Trying to decide if I'm going to stay up late to watch. I'll be offline all day tomorrow anyway, so look forward to reading the comments late tomorrow.

SARA, big thanks to you for another great recap!
Yah, not a ton of action in this ep but it feels like the calm before the storm.

Well, I would have bet that Pru and Tomas were never going to do the deed. Wow, maybe they really have feelings for each other, but that will make me feel extra bad for Hum. He has just worked hard and been the bank machine for his greedy wife and daughter all these years.

Padre-free episode. I miss his big presence on-screen.
Great to see how handsome Emanuel looks with a big smile on his face!
Joaquin...the hair combed back is a mirror image of Adelina's hair.
Melesio had a great part in tonight's episode, his interaction with the "horse-thieves" was wonderful; his visit with Lola at the dinner table very touching.

Night, all!

J in Oregon

Sounds like Lola and her abuelos are fine with each other now. That's good.

Ok, so there was grand theft of a thoroughbred horse; assault on Mudo and Jacinto; a posse with guns; gun play and a standoff at Santuario; Eman moved in to Santuario; Joaquin and Adelina kissed after 20+ years of unrequited love; and Pru betrayed her marital vows to Hum by finally having (mind blowing) sex with Tomas. Filler?

I promise it felt like filler. :)

The horse caper, posse and standoff were all in the first 20ish minutes(?)

And then it all sort of felt like nothing new.

I'm going to be the jackwagon and say I'm pretty annoyed by this being Adelina's first kiss. It seems kind of stupid to me.

I sort of felt like Pru and Tomas would eventually get down on it so it's not like I was particularly surprised.

J in O - did you get the impression that Mel believed Sev would sacrifice the horse?

I have to ask y'all to weigh in on this because if he did believe that Sev would kill the horse then why is he still working for such a cruel man? And if he didn't then why lie? I think it's because he knows how dangerous Sev is so... Why keep working there?

I think it felt like filler because the standoff was so well done and I felt like I was watching a really good western. Every scene after that just felt meh to me.

Sara- I imagine that Mel and Dom are a package deal, and Dom has worked there forever and would never leave Cande.

Decided to just head to bed and catch up on the show over the weekend. Thanks again, Sara, for getting this up so quickly!

That's a good point, Vivi.

Sleep tight!

I bet Sev tortured and killed small animals when he was young.

Rosemary Primera

Sara - you amazing woman you! Thank you for a great recap! I also heared lealtades and thank you for explaining Sev's new scheme; I was totally confused.

Well, I see why they went with lawyers and not, say, a bunch of accountants. Vivi your list really highlights the crimes being racked up. Unfortunately, these can be proven and have been committed by the good guys. That's my "Oy vey" of the night.

Val's laying it on so thick, I wish she had made her dumb speech in the middle of the town square so that everyone around will know what a lying, guilt tripping weasle she is.

Sara, on you question about why Mel stays - I imagine age might also have something to do with it. It could be hard for him to find work on a ranch (although he's more a ranch manager than a ranch hand) PLUS we already know Sev likes to black list those that don't agree to work for him (i.e. Hum's denied loans earlier).

Guess I was waaaay off on the Joaq/Silvia connection. The trio was adorable when Ade held a sleeping Ray in the truck. It never occurred to me before that she was still mourning Ray. I always thought she continued to stay away because she just felt like she couldn't leave Aldonza and Joaq is stil married and the town gossips so much and she has all these secrets etc.

Sara, thanks for two recaps in a row! Couldn't get near a computer today to tell you how much I enjoyed these along with all the comments.
Happy that the horse survived (so far). I think Rosemary may be right about Sev torturing small animals as a child.

Yes, SARA, I think after listening to Eman's earnest explanation, Mel did believe that Sev would follow through on his threat. It was fun watching him lay the groundwork for the two horse-thieves' escape. I just love how the writers have brought these secondary characters fully to life, so they are not just stereotypes.

Was surprised that Eman would knock out Jacinto and Mudo--two long time co-workers who seem like decent guys--in order to steal El Solitario. Kinda like setting a fire at Aldonza's to create a diversion so Chris could get into the house. Dude!

BTW, any chance that Chris is not really Sev's son? I know we have hashed this out before, but Sev mentioned again last night about his son being the only thing that matters or STTE. That would be the worst punishment for him as he burns in H3LL.

J in O

Mighty Sara, above and beyond the call. A veritable recap super hero. I'm exhausted just staying up watching sport finals two nights in a row, how you get these great recaps together...I'm in awe.

So it felt like filler, played out like filler, but as Vivi pointed out, really wasn't. I guess after all the recent bombshells, this just seemed less than what it was.

But I'm going to go out there and say--hurrah the horsie is saved!! But not the best laid plan ( seems to be a theme in this show). Honestly, if you think about it, the only security on Allie's place is Camillo and E-man ( who was eating in town versus watching his horse?). So really, if Sev wanted to be his usual ass-hat self, he could just send some dudes in the night and steal the horse back. But I wonder if he really WANTS to stick it to his own son.2 and get rid of him so Cris is once again the chosen one. Sick sick sick.

So is Sim maybe the "witness" that squealed on Sev? Why is she so frantic to call him? Regrets it and warning him? I mean spotting Adriano wouldn't be a big deal I wouldn't think. Just spill already.

Why was this a Cande free episode? The fact she didn't surface with the gun shot played out as very odd. She hears a door closed and usually comes running.

I loved the Ade/Joaquin scene with the little sleepy dude in the car, but have to say I was sort of Meh with the whole kiss/romance. I don't get a happy vibe with these two, but hope they can enjoy some time together before the usual crap hits the fan ( aka Flavia showing up again?)

And, did you all not love that little smile by Mel when he realized that Mutt and Jeff in the stables didn't see who the horsenappers were?

Daisynjay

Boy, Sara, you are a superhero recapper. You're all over the place (eg Amores) and always such insightful stuff.

I got a kick out of Sev's Zorro outfit when they went to Aldonza's place looking for the horse.

Cris, always the peacemaker, but he is beginning to see some cracks in the respectable façade of daddy dearest.

I saw parallels drawn between Ad and Pru, and Pru and Val. Ad and Pru had their first satisfying experience with a man, and I'll bet that like Val, Pru winds up in a family way - but not with her official family.

Sev planning to divert water must be completely illegal, and easily provable. How is he going to do this? It takes a lot of work to divert a stream/creek/river. It took Gen Grant months to do this at Vicksburg, and he had an entire army to do the work.

So, in the grand scheme, this may have been filler, but I enjoyed it, and especially your take on things. So thanks again, Sara.

David

Thank you Sara, I could actually watch this in real time last night, too bad there wasn't more action.

I lol'd when I saw Emanuel with the bandana over his mouth. Could anyone be fooled by his disguise? And the answer was yes, surprisingly enough.
Emanuel needs to take the horse on the circuit now if he doesn't want to get caught, staying at Aldonza's won't be safe.

I'm surprised too that Pru followed through with Tomas. Will she and Hum get divorced now? I'm certain that Hum will find out sometime about them.

If the DNA test comes back negative, proving Sev isn't Cris's father, then unless there was another man in Cande's past, that would make Jeronimo his father, and Aldonza and Cris first cousins. Not sure if they're going to go there, but I do hope the test comes out that the samples were from 2 males. (How hilarious would it be if Cris then thinks that Aldonza is really a male and that's why she didn't want to have sex with him).

David- yes! I've been thinking "zorro" every time I see the horse. Thanks for pointing out how much work is involved in diverting water. He won't be able to do it on the sly. Where is this all heading?

Daisynjay - Mudo and Jacinto:Mutt and Jeff. They even have the same initials! And yes, Mel's smirk was great.

J in O- almost always feel like the "smaller" side stories are better written and better acted.

Hellashelle - I kind of keep forgetting that Mel is "old." I don't know why. Lol.

La Paloma- Thank you and hooray for horse rescuers.

Rosemary - I'm sure he tortured small animals. I'm not convinced he's very nice to his horses.

Hey cathyx! I'm not sure they will the route of Cris not being Sev's either, but I like your alternate story idea!

No, I'll guarantee they won't go that route, lol. If it comes back positive, these writers should be shot.

Thanks again, Sara. Finished the recap. While I was watching last night I was thinking "wow, Sara got a great episode!" I didn't think of it consciously but the standoff at the Alcocer coral was deeply satisfying because of the nostalgic cowboy movie vibe: I love me some old westerns and sixties era western tv shows. Anywho, that bit and Mel's cover were great.

I also noticed during the standoff how Cris and Donnie kept eyeing each other. Big frickin' deal! Are these the crumbs they throw us? Is romance like gone out of style in novelas? That's the part that is disappointing for me: Pru in an illicit tryst with a loser young enough to be her son feels the earth move for the first time and Tomas has his Maggie May moment. Adelina and Jock? I knew he still had it for her but y'all, I love my family and it's a big one but I'm going to forego a real adult life and the exploration of my emotional and physical needs to run behind my floozy sister with a poop scoop all her life and then continue it with her offspring? Ah. No. But hey! It is what it is. Too bad Ade the price of Ade finding love is probably the death of Flavia. If Flavia dies she, like Roberta will pay the ultimate price for being a woman who "likes it." Hmmm, maybe Pru will end up dying too.

Anyway, rambling. We'll see how the water diversion plays out and I wonder how long we have to wait before the DNA bomb!

Can someone explain what "RPC" means?

One meaning is "remote procedure call" and is it used by network programmers, but I don't think it is used as such in the recap.

RPC- recapper's privilege card. I think I came up with it during DQTQTQ or La Gata when I didn't like something enough to re-watch and recap it. Rarely used for big drama.

I'm totally waiting for the DNA bomb (or backfire)!

I'm probably going to go back and re-watch the standoff again because I liked it so much. I kind of want to make hubs watch it and get his opinion. He's a big fan of westerns.

Sara - probably because Mel is so adorable and loves his wife and granddaughter and is totally worthy of the galan title :)

I think the witness is in holding as an accomplice (which is probably why he lied and said the gun just "went off accidentally").

Oh Lord, I hadn't even thought about Pru winding up preggers! She will flip, but Val's head might actually explode! I continue to be fascinated by that storyline: If Pru is pregnant, will she mimic her daughter and try to pass it off as Hum's or is she so enamored of Tomas (or his skills) that she'll chuck it all? Does she forfeit alimony if she's the one that asks for a divorce or is found to be cheating? Wouls Tomas be happy about a baby or freak the F out and bail? So many more questions than I have for our main couple (I'm already disappointed by how the rest of their story is going to play out. Already. Before even seeing it. Sigh.)

I so want the DNA test to come back positive for two men. In fact, I want the lab to call Cris to tell him the samples are confusing because of that. I would love for him to disappear for an episode or two because he's in DF, and come back with a slightly different attitude and get really proof before revealing it all!

But I'll get more foolishness instead, I'm sure.

Also, I can't type:

*that she'll chuck it all for her new guy?
*WoulD Tomas be happy...
*get real* proof

On the water front, I just want to know if Cris will tell Aldonza or Eman what Sev is planning/trying to do and if he does it without consulting Hum, how will Hum react?

Wait, DNA question: why Cande and Sev substitute one of Sev's hairs for Aldonza's, Cande could just as easily have pulled one of hers out. (Ouch). If there was any question that Chris' father was someone else, Cande definitely have used one of her own. (*Ouch*).

BTW Cande's braids are so tight that, if someone tried to undo them, I picture the braids holding still and Cande swirling round and round like one of those pinwheel fireworks...

J in O

J in O - lol, great image!

I'm with you - I don't think she would've sent Sev's hair if there was any question of Cris's paternity. Though she had/has a thing for PJ, he seemed totally shocked by her confession and began their first convo on the show with "I don't know if you remember me, but..." If they had slept together, I think they would both remember each other well.

I stil don't understand why they used Sev's hair. There's no other explanation but that dealing with her braids would've taken too long and they only had a couple of minutes. I kind of wish we'd seen that scene; it seems like it would've been funny.

Daisy - good point! Who's guarding the stables while Joaq and E enjoy margaritas? And are they going somewhere with E's constant drinking? At this point Joaq and E himself have pointed it out.

Also, doesn't E need Solitario's papers to register him for competitions?

Sara, I thought the events were quite exciting. Your recap was superb – you fired on all cylinders and mirrored the excitement and events perfectly. I love your comments and “Eman still says happiness is short lived. He is so Roberta's child” was my favorite. Excellent summary.

Sara, I was shocked Mudo and Jacinto were actually going to kill Solitario. I mean, they have always been among the “good guys”, haven’t they?? I am going to cut Mel a bit of slack. He didn’t see Mudo and Jacinto actually trying to hurt the horse so maybe he does believe even Sev wouldn’t be that evil. Sigh.

“She tells Cris that Sev was going to sacrifice the horse rather than sell it to Eman”. I fear I am growing impatient with Cris who continues to wear blinders where his parents are concerned. Follow your heart, your instincts and your gut man. Get out of that house! The one person you can trust is telling you your father wanted to kill an innocent animal rather than give it to the one who loves it. Why does Aldonza hate him so? Why do your parents hate Aldonza who has one nothing to them? So frustrating.

“Aldonza asks Adelina not to give up Joaquin for her”. I’m glad they finally kissed but the fact that this is Adelina’s first kiss is beyond believable.

J, I also missed the Padre who brings a sense of dignity, honor and sensibility to the daily proceedings. Although not seeing Cande was a welcome respite, Sev was evil enough that the nefarious events proceeded unabated.

“Is romance like gone out of style in novelas?” Excellent question Lila. It does seem that way – passion was much more prevalent even a scant few years ago – Pasion, Amores Verdaderos are just a few examples. I also would like to see more romance.

Sara, thank you for providing yet another superb recap.

Diana

Yes. Eman needs the papers. Joaquin told Eman to get Cris to help get them.

Cande's hair reminds me of an episode of the Flintstones when Wilma tried a new hairdo. I can't remember the new do but it started to shake and tremble and then *POW* it snapped back into her old do, the famous Wilma bun. Now that would be a terrible and hilarious sight to behold if that happened to Cande! Yikes!

Diana - as always, your thoughtful comments warmed my heart. That you have taken the time to do so when you are recuperating flatters me even more.

Like you, I was astounded that Mudo and Jacinto seemed ready to carry out Sev's orders. I though they were good guys, too.

Ha! Lila think I remember that Flintstones scene.

Sara – Thank you for the recap! This did not sound like filler episode to me. This will be a good one to watch!

”Eman plans to enter Solitario in a competition in San Miguel.”
And he does not think a logical consequence is that Sev will find out? People in the horse business follow the show circuit and results, even if they don’t attend.

Sim’s phone call to Sev is definitely a prelude to something. . . My money is on her being the one to kill Sev.

The best punishment for Sev would be to cut off his other arm.

”that she'll (Pru) chuck it all for her new guy(Tomas)?
No. No way Jose. Not once the lightbulb comes on and she realizes Tomas has no money for her lifestyle and wardrobe budget. But, dang, he must be goooood. Fireworks! Nonetheless, Tomas is such a sleaze that he will NOT be welcome at the Cougar Table on the Patio.

Cande probably had the day off, getting her braids re-wound. We can only hope that PadJer did not have to run into her on his own day off.

Even if Eman gets the papers, can he transfer ownership over to his name just like that?

I will cut Cris slack. His doubt has grown as he's gotten reasons to doubt. I had more trouble wrapping my mind around his just accepting that his girlfriend and parents loathed each other and he was just like ok, well I'll marry her without any explanation on anyone's part about this and renounce my parents forever.

Now that I'm thinking about it, what is up with people that so care about Cris putting him in these difficult positions? Val, Sev and Cande are just beyond understanding, but Eman didn't give him the heads up about the horse situation and is about to ask him to steal the ownership papers from his parents?

Hella. Like Sara said, Eman is sooo Roberta's son. Maybe the expert team is writing the whole Solitario/Eman romance piece because he is so reflecting his mom's behavior: the impulsiveness, the dramatic passion that doesn't move Sev, just tells him where to stick the knife. Just Roberta all over again!

Lila

SARA, GREAT RECAP. NOW OMG REALLY?

Vile-val: "how dare you sleep with me, knowing you are married to aldonza, (this might not be word for word. But you know where I'm going). You came looking for me, you used me, took advantage of me, and any other crap she can use to gilt him stupid. And it worked hes apolojizing to that scank.

Ok for now Im at work.

Lila - yes, you are on to something in your assessment of the Eman plot writing. Add in his tendency to drink and get drunk often. Alcoholism is often hereditary. I'm not saying he has crossed that invisible line yet, but the potential is there and the writers know that.

Lila - the dramatic passion that doesn't move Sev, just tells him where to stick the knife I hadn't even noticed this parrallel!

Nina - IKR!!! I hate it when one of the villains lays a guilt trip like this because it's one of the specific things that they don't normally get called out on! It gets rolled into the general lie, but I want the person they tripped to lay into them for this extra bullsh*t.

Hiho , Silver, Away !!! The posse rides.

Pru gets her grooeve back...with Toma's..icky.

Thanks so much , Sara, for second in a row of fin caps,

Fun caps.....Tomas....sorry...my IPad and I are no longer speaking...

".sorry...my IPad and I are no longer speaking..."
Susanlynn - LOL!!! I know that feeling!

Thank you again Sara and yep, Emanuel is so Roberta's son.

Lila, Maggie May is running through my head in a loop now.

I liked it last night, very little Aldonza and Cris.

This tryst between Pru and Tomas will last as long as Humberto funds it. She needs to be on her ass in the street.

Golly, Joaquin can do so much better than Adelina. While she is a 40 year old virgin she is not a prize. Is she the best nanny and wet nurse Aldonza could have had as a child? Yep. Adult relationship and partnership, not so sure with a dude. As I said yesterday, why would anyone believe a word that comes out of her mouth? When someone asks her a direct question you can see the wheels turning, trying to remember what she has told them prior and if she can't remember will shut up and/or deflect.

I got a soft spot for Emanuel but the boy is dumb as a rock, makes me nervous with a drink in hand, cringe when he tries to verbalize a complex thought and no way what he did last night was anything but horse thievery. Bless his heart.

tofie, Adelina is a big step up from Flavia, so it is all in perspective, especially Joaquin's. (LOL 40-y/o virgin but yes it is true)

I sometimes wonder if Roberta drank heavily while she was preggers with Eman. He might have a very slight case of fetal alcohol syndrome.

Reosemary--Sev killing small animals? I don't know abouyt that back then, but I actually have always pictured him as either the dweeb that was bullied or the "smoker dude" that was ignored and not part of the "in crowd" and grew a resentment wall that would put the Ice Wall of the Seven Kingdoms to shame (GoT fans out there?). He had no money, but he won the cool girl in school who just happened to be rich to boot. It fed that ego and resentment and his life ambition is to keep what he won and screw anyone that gets in his way because now HE'S the cool guy on campus.

So here's my theory on either Ade or E-man, and I lean to Ade on this: whenever we have one of these TN's where a priest is a pivotal character and the use of the church and confessions come into play, there is ALWAYS a character that winds up being the ultimate Sacrificial Lamb in the war against the good and evil guys. My money, sadly, is on either E-man or Ade to fill that role. The fact that E-man is tied so closely to Lola makes me take a step back from him since they have been going there with the Pato-Mari possibility. So right now, I'm going with my bad vibe of the pure and innocent: Ade.

"I sometimes wonder if Roberta drank heavily while she was preggers with Eman. He might have a very slight case of fetal alcohol syndrome."

Wow--what a great point doris!

PSA- I hate to be an aguafiestas, but I think we all need to try to limit conversation to events that have occurred. I've noticed an eery habit of conjecture coming to pass. We've already had to delete two spoilers and I think it's made me paranoid. I understand the the show is kind of predictable and following El Manantial closely, but it's getting hard to discriminate between conjecture and spoiler.

Or maybe I just need meds.

Thank you Sara for yet another great recap. For a "filler" episode, you certainly made each point/scene very relevant.

I love Eman but hate his role. I hate seeing Alex Sirvent(sp) as such a doofus. I'll always remember him as a Scoobie in AB.

Cris could fix the whole horse mess by "selling" Solitario to Eman.

In the avances, Sim/Viv tells Cande she is preggers; Cande blows up at Sev and Cris overhears. I hope they don't leave this until the last two minutes since this is Friday.....

That's interesting, LoriLoo. I wonder if Cris has the authority to do that. It sure would help Eman.

But I think that Solitario is technically already sold. I would think the owner would be annoyed. I'm surprised no one has mentioned him (or her.)

I'm actually feeling a little bit more for Ade now. I can see her as the little sister whom Roberta burdened with little secrets ("don't tell mom and dad I'm sneaking out" "don't tell mom and dad I'm changing into different clothes" "don't tell mom and dad I'm going to sleep with this dude instead of going to a religious retr-" wait, wrong woman). That, coupled with Rob's reputation and Ade's crush on Ray (and who knows how many others) and I can see how maybe Adelina kept her focus non-romantic/sexual, wrapping herself up in that role rather than try to compete with Rob or make waves. I imagine it's a parallel to Lardo and Mari.

Also, why would she tell her secret? So that PJ and Aldonza could resent/hate Rob? So that Sev could but a bigger target on her back? So that it would lead to finding the missing baby so they could have a hateful, monstrous father and stepmother who will only reject, insult, delittle and demoralize them? The only plus side to this would be Al's knowing that she wasn't raped by her father and can in fact marry Cris (which she herself fights against every other day), which could be proven by a voluntary DNA test if she wasn't so stupidly stubborn. Well, that and Emmanuel and Cris's bond would strengthen, which is the only real clear benefit that I can see.

"... Wait, wrong woman."

HAHAHAHA!

I'm really pissed at Cynthia right now because I'm supposed to hate Pru, but Cynthia is so comical with this character that I can't hate her. Same kind of goes for Diego del Erice.

You are right, Sara. I forgot that Solitario was already sold. So how can Sev kill him anyway? Of course Cris doesn't really have the right to sell him to Eman but all he needs is mommie dearest in his camp.

Lila..''just tells him where to sticvk the knife.'' Wow, so true. Severed just delights in pouring salt into a wound, and he is insightful enough to know exactly how to cut someone to the quick. It must be horrible to be Severed. He is such a nasdty, callous person, devoid of love or compassion. I wish that we had more of a back story on how he became this coldhearted monster. I will be very interested in seeing who or what will be delivering his anvil . Trampoled by Solitaire ? Frozen solid by Candy's touch ? A wet death in the waterfall. ? Swimming is probably not his sport.

I think it's time to adjust the beanies. There are a lot of holes in the horse story. But it made for really good drama!

And Eman should have played it cooler when he went to buy the horse. He just handed Sev the knife.

Lila already said that, didn't she?

I suppose that Sev could tell Solitario's buyer that he has a disease, the horse not Sev, and Sev has to put him down - I hate Sev so much. Someone already mentioned that the best anvil for Sev would be to cut off his other arm! ITA!!

I hope I get some scenes tonight where Sev gets it stuck to him. Little anvilettes along the way before the BIG, RED, HOT-SPIKED one! Yah, baby!

Lila

Sara---Thanks again for yet another recap---2 now. I really disagree with you though
on the filler thing. No way was this a filler. In fact I don't think that Sombra has any fillers. Each episode is well worth waiting, counting the hours for.

Rosemary---I think that Sev has a lot more employees than the few that are shown to us. Sev has a big rancho.

Sara---Why does Mel continue working for Sev? Hasn't he been there most/all of his life? Does he have enough money to move out and make it on his own along with Dom?
Where would he find work at his age? Mel doesn't have many options.

Just a guess but I think that Sim is going to do something big or become a key piece of the puzzle later on.

Will Flavia come to her senses and go back to Joaquin? It kinda looks like that might happen after Sim talked to her. But if that Doesn't happen, then it's Ade and
Joaquin full speed ahead. I'm curious as to which way this will go.

Another curiosity that I have is what will happen to the candy house and the diamond wedding ring inside. Who will get that ring? I'm guessing that the candy house and the ring will be part of a big ending of this novela. Any thoughts?

Doris---Cande probably had the day off getting her braids re-wound. LOL Maybe true.

Bad girl Val sure took it to dumbass at the beginning of the show. She's got him right where she wants him. Never a dull moment or filler in this show. And tonight looks like Cande fireworks are going to go off. 8 hours 45 minutes to go.
the gringo

Maybe filler isn't the right word. After Wednesday's action and the excitement at the El Santuario corral all the other stuff seemed dull do me.

I agree with you gringo that La Sombra has really maintained the drama and excitement.

Doris, Loriloo - OMG, if Sev lost his other arm he would probably just jump off the waterfall and drowned himself! (Susanlynn "A wet death in the waterfall. ? Swimming is probably not his sport." Yeah, I laughed at this. I can't imagine much of a worse way to die, and I laughed. This TN villains make me a mean, mean person). Can you imagine how much time he spent practicing how to do everything with his right hand so that he wouldn't have to ask for help?

Man, sometimes I wish the TNs were Ns because books often offer so much more insight into a character that can fit into 100+ hours of screen time

I do too, hellashelle!

A lot of TNs are based in Caridad Bravo Adams novels. I wish they would reprint those. I managed to get my hands on the Corazón Salvaje series for less than $50 on eBay, but the last time I saw one of her books there it was almost $500!

WE should totally sell Re-novelizations at the Naughty Melon. "Rele-novelas: Novelizations of your favorite telenovelas, revealing secrets and insights that you've only dreamed of!"

Sorry! That was just supposed to be a "We". I wasn't trying to exclude the rest of the patio from my wild fantasies :P

I love that idea! I would totally read them. In fact, I've been sort of grumpy lately because I can't settle on anything to read... Because really I just want to read a Telenovela.

Back in the 60s and 70s there was a "comic book" series called Lágrimas, risa y amor (or something like that) and the were really love and adventure stories. Many Telenovelas were based on them (Rubi for one.)

Adapting novels to the big or small screen is not easy or always welcome. I have been reading comments online about the Starz adaptation of Diana Gabalon's popular Outlader series (she is currently writing thSoe ninth book. ) Some folks are objecting to scenes deleted and others that were added.

I'm thinking more along the lines of how there are Star Wars books that use the universe and characters, but none of them are really novels of the movie.

So there could be a novel "Amor escondido" about a young Cande. The autor could be one of the writers of this TN, so he could plot it like a TN.

Maybe I've been thinking about this too much.

Sara,,,Have you read the Outlander series ? My friends tell me that you cannot put the books down. I am in line behind my friend Gen for the first in the series. They are like telenovelas set in 18th century Scotland...historical fiction, time travel, dastardly villains, hot Scots in kilts, romamnvce, Jacobite's.

I read the first 3 back when they first came out in the early 90s and I recall that I could not put them down. But since I stopped after three I must have decided they weren't compelling enough to read the rest of the series.

Offspring is re-reading them now and she has said some of the later books are a struggle for her... And she loves the series and is a much faster reader than I.

They sound like Game of Thrones. I picked up the first one and was lost for maybe the first four. It made me consider buying books (rather than borrowing from the library) for the first time in years! and they were at the library, I ws just impatient on the waiting list.

Susanlynn - I've read the first four or five books of the Outlander series. It is true. You cannot put them down. Whenever I started a new book (in the series), I knew I would get NOTHING done around the house for three or four days. LOL
I watched the first Tv episode and did not bond with it. I suppose the books were as graphic, but they just did not strike me that way. PLUS ... once I have read a book, I get a picture in my head of how the characters look, and a movie never matches it, so it just does not work for me. ;-)

Oh, and Susanlynn, the first in the Outlander series is full of history. Actually, it was recommended reading to me before hubby and I took a trip to Scotland. Wow, what great advice that was! As it turned out, we were in Nairn, some ten or twenty miles from Culloden, so we took a quick detour and saw the battlefield and info center. It was nice to understand the importance of that piece of land!

Did they say that the horse was already sold, as in money had exchanged hands? Or simply that they had a buyer? It would make a world of difference.

There was a time when horse stealing was punishable by hanging! No trial necessary.

Hmm. That I'm not sure about. And of course Vivi is offline all day today. Lol.

I hope someone remembers.

I remember that there was just a buyer, that's why Eman thought he could pre-empt sp?) the sale with an offer than Sev couldn't refuse. It wasn't totally a done deal.

Ok. Thank you!

Doris- I just saw your comment about Outlander the show. I've seen stills from the show and Claire and Jaime don't look at all like they did in my head. Lol.

My friend who is on book two or three now said that Sam H.who is playing Jamie is prettier than she pictured Jamie. I think that he is fine, fine, fine, and the author likes the casting choices and the way her first book was interpreted. She is fascinating. She taught at the Univ. Of Arizona. She has a science background. I read an essay online that she wrote about using ''three'' in writing. The first event is followed by a second and the third event provides the WHAM.

Sara - I have the same problem with remakes, whether it is a movie or telenovela. The original is firmly etched in my mind, especially the physical appearance of the characters, and I don't want any other version.

I wish cris would get a hard edge so he can deal with his parents. He is so soft, look how whipped he seemed when vileval gilted him into taking responsibility for her, deception. The boy is to nice for his own good. Even ally has tuffness to her, not as tuff as I'd like to see, but better than cris.

If he had some of that hard edge his mom has, not her nastiness just the tuffness. When those results come back he'll probably just whimp out, and believe whatever vileval tells him. Poor baby.

Nina
.

Gracias, Sara! For the recap and the vocab. Yay for Soletario getting freed!
