La Sombra del Pasado #83 6/11/15

Tonight's format is again inspired by Hellashelle.

The Short Version:
  • Padre J and Dom make excuses. Cande barely buys them. Recapper snorts.
  • Sev keeps Aldonza out of Cris’ room. Recapper throws stuff at the TV.
  • Hum says medical stuff. Recapper wonders if it's really that important.
  • Cris goes for a walk. A bloody mess and recapper nausea ensues. Recapper decides it probably makes Hums earlier doctor talk moot.
  • Emanuel goes to San Miguel. He takes a shower. Then he gets mugged. Recapper approves his choice of towel. It offset the chest nicely.
  • Mari finds out Emanuel is in San Miguel. She has an idea she wants to run by Valeria. Recapper curses.
  • Silvia talks to Aldonza about “the kiss.” Aldonza insists it was more like their lips barely touched. Recapper shakes head in disbelief.
  • Val goes to the hospital. She makes comments about Aldonza being slutty like her mother. Recapper blood pressure rises.
  • Sim calls Lola. She needs help. Lola calls Hum. Hum figures out Sim’s condition. Hum tells Sev. Sev visits Sim. Bye Bye Sim?
The  Longer Version (Some scenes combined.)
After getting busted coming out of Sev's office, Padre J and Dom think fast. She says Padre J was there to talk to Mel. Since Padre J had to make a phone call, Dom offered Sev's office for privacy. Cande, still smarting about the communion incident, tells Padre J that he and Aldonza should stay away from the hospital. Padre J assure her they will. He leaves. Dom asks how Padre J offended Cande. Cande tells her how she was denied communion. I believe Dom was about to remind Cande about slapping Aldonza in the church, but Cande interrupts her.

Cris wants to see Aldonza. Sev says she hasn't come to visit. Cris doesn't think his parents have the right to stop her. There's a knock on the door. It's Aldonza. Cris even asks if it's Aldonza. Sev excuses himself and leaves the room, denying Aldonza entry. They quietly argue in the hallway. She and Renato remind Sev she has a right to visit Cris. Sev lies and says Cris is sleeping. He is not going allow Aldonza in. He tells Aldonza that Cris came out of the operation fine then tells her to leave. Renato and Aldonza move away and talk. Aldonza has a right to enter, but she doesn't want to cause a scence for Cris' sake. Renato says they could get a court order. Aldonza turns down that idea. She'll just wait at the hospital until Cris demands to see her. Then she'll see if they dare tell their own son to go to hell.

When Sev returns to Cris' room, he lies and says it was Pru that had come to visit. I'm pretty sure Cris thought his dad was full of horse manure. Cris wants to talk to the nurses and Hum. He wants Aldonza to be allowed to visit. Sev says they are the parents and they are doing what's best. Cris responds that he is an adult. He'll decide.

Emanuel asks Joaquin permission to go to San Miguel. Joaquin reminds him to be careful about showing the horse. Don't let Sev find out. Permission granted.

Lola goes to work. R to the P to the C. She tells Irma about her feeligns concerning Sim/Viv (sometimes she feels really badly for her mother. Sometimes she feels really angry.) Lola not so subtly asks Irma how things are going with Mari and Em. Irma figures they're going ok, but she doesn't trust Em all that much.

Renato basically advises that Aldonza has to be patient. Eventually they will have to let her in. He'll go with her to the hospital. She tells him he really shouldn't. He'll asks Pato or Silvia. It would make him feel better. Silvia watches from across the street.

Pru in the church, not bursting into flames. Padre J prays for patience and approches. Pru claims it's just a little something weighing on her conscience, but she doesn't want to confess. She'll come some other day.

Hum wants to do "un doppler". (Link is in English.) Some vein/artery circulation test. He needs to send for an apparatus from the city. He's talked to a specialist and they don't think Cris should be moved. Sev begs him to save his son's leg. They need to do the tests. Hum doesn't know how long it will take to get the apparatus. Mabye 24 hours. Sev asks Hum to leave orders that NO ONE visit Cris. Hum says there is no reason for that. Sev threatens and Hum gives in. Ok. Aldonza won't see Cris.

Em arrives in San Miguel. He gets directions to the horse fair.

Renato asks Siliva to go to the hospital with Aldonza.

Em comes out of the shower. No sure what he says. Dn't really care. Towel. Chest. Chest. Chest.
(Oh, a message to Mari.)

The nurse has strict orders only to let authorized persons see Cris. She claims that yes, she passed along Aldonza's messages, but there was no reply from Cris. Aldonza patiently asks if the patient is awake. He's still a little loopy from the meds.

Val visits Mari. Mari reports she's gotten tons of calls and messages from Emanuel. Val knew their plan would work. Mari tells Val that Eman is in San Miguel and that she has an idea she wants to run by Val. Glad I don't have to recap that. Sorry for which ever of my recapping homegirls it falls on (I probably just jinxed myself.)

Em eats. He needs to put credits on his cell phone. He gets stopped by two dudes. One looks like he has a knife.

Cris is awake and Cande asks if anything hurts (which I find to be a ridiculous question.) He says that the only thing that hurts is the way his parents treat him. He wants to see Aldonza. He accuses Cande and Sev of kidnapping him. The only thing they are accomplishing is making him want Aldonza more. Cande tells him that being with Aldonza would be an aberration. He asks his mother to leave him alone. Cande finally concedes.

In the lobby, she eavesdrops on Silvia and Aldonza's conversation. Silvia is confused by Aldonza's attitude. She wants to divorce Cris, yet here she is at the hospital desperately waiting to see him. Aldonza explains that independent of the divorce and the reasons for it, she loves Cris with all her soul in spite everything. Slivia asks why is Aldonza giving Rento false hopes then (dar alas.) Aldonza doesn't know what Silvia is talking about. (oooo Aldonza. You are gonna get REAMED in the comments.) Silvia says she knows about the kiss with Renato. Aren't we all thrilled that Cande overheard that.

Cris decides he's going to go look for Aldonza. He pulls out his IVs and gets out of bed. Screaming. Falling. Table Toppling. Bleeding. Blergh. Everyone comes running.

Em is not answering his cell and Lola has a bad feeling. Why didn't Em tell her personally that he was leaving town. Adelina tells her to calm down. Lola is worried because Em never had a chance to break up with Mari and now she can't get in touch with Em and..... Adelina tells her to chill.

Hum comes out of surgery. Luckily Cris only hurt the superficial part of the wound, not the deeper wound. They were able to stop the bleeding. Now the concern is infection. No one can see him right now. Aldonza asks how this happened. Hum says Cris tried to get up and walk out of the room. Hum doesn't know what he was thinking. Silvia says "you mean, who." Cande blames Aldonza for Cris' accident. Aldonza says it's all their fault. Aldonza thinks they won't stop until Cris is dead. Hum reminds them they are all in a hospital.

The next day, Lola still tries to get in touch with Em. She gets a call from Sim/Viv. Sim/Viv is in a lot of pain and sick. She asks Lola to come see her.

Aldonza is in Renato's office. The hospital says Cris' conditon is stable. Aldonza invites Silvia to breakfast. Renato "graciously" lets them go so they can talk about old times and "girl stuff." He'll catch up with them later.

Lola rushes into Hum's office. She needs hime to come with her right away. His first response is "No". WTF? Are you a doctor or not? Asshat. Lola begs. The patient is in a lot of pain. Hum asks "Who is it?" Again I say WTF? Who cares? Are you a doctor or not? Did I call him an asshat yet? Luckily Lola finally convinces him to come with her.

Silvia asks Aldonza not to tell Renato that she said anything about the kiss. Mostly RPC...until Aldonza says it was barely even a kiss. More like a roce de labios (brushing of lips.) Um. I seem to recall that Renato pulled away and planted a second kiss. Do I remember correctly? Anyway. Aldonza swears that she has been clear with Renato from the beginning. He knows she's loved Cris since their first meeting. Seriously, Aldonza. We are gonna rip you apart.

Hum recommends a good gynecologist. Sim/Viv thanks him. She and Lola share a good talk. Lola apologizes for bringing Hum. He's the only doctor she knows. Sim/Viv hopes Hum doesn't say anything to Sev. She knows they are friends. Lola is pretty sure the doctor won't say anything. Sim/Viv asks Lola not to tell anyone. (That lasts a nano-second. In the next scene after Lola leaves, she accidentally blurts it to Irma.) Lola leaves and closes the door behind her. Sim/Viv whispers "Gracias, hija" to the closed door.

Aldonza lectures Silvia about the talk. Silvia is just doing it for her own selfish reasons, isn't she? Silvia doesn't see what she's doing wrong (And frankly, neither do I.) She's doing it for Renato's own good. Aldonza isn't going to squeal, is she? Aldonza says she'll keep her word, but warns Silvia that she's letting her feelings run away with her. That this love that Silvia says she has is bringing out the worst in her. What the hell is this? Why do we even have this scene? Can we just dump Aldonza now? Let's make this a story about Silvia. She's smarter.

Hum examines Cris and tells the patient he was crazy. Cris isn't sorry. He'd do it again. It's not his leg bleeding, but his sould. Hum agrees to let her visit as soon as possible. As long as Cris doesn't try a crazy thing again.

Aldonza arrives at the hospital. And Val is right behind her. Val tells her to leave and does that villana snapping thing. Aldonza is not going to follow Val's orders. Val reminds her she's just following her tios' orders. Renato reminds Val that Aldonza has a right to see Cris since they are married. Val brushes him off and calls him abogaducho (dirty little lawyer.) Val tells Renato that anyone can see Aldonza is just using him. Everyone knows Aldonza can't go very long without male companionship. Aldonza is "come at me ho." Renato stops her. At the word señorita, Val agrees. She is a señorita from a good family. Rento and Adlonza go all sychronized scoffing. Val walks away and Aldonza bitches about Val getting to be closer to Cris than she is.

Val goes and reports that she had a run in with Aldonza. Hum tells her to calm down. Val says she was calm until she ran into Aldonza. Val insists on seeing Cris. Hum tells her no. Cande and Val go to get coffee. Hum mentions to Sev that Lola called him and asked him to look over Sim/Viv. Hum figured out she was pregnant. She might lose the baby. He thought Sev should know.

Sev heads to Sim/Viv's house. He yells at her for telling Lola. Sim/Viv swears she didn't have a choice. She couldn't get in touch with Sev. He can't believe Sim/Viv is giving him problems when his son is fighthing for his life in the hospital. Sim reminds him that her child is his son too and deserves some consideration. Sev doesn't give a rip about the child and it would be better for him if he wasn't born. Sim follows him out to the living room. No matter what it costs, this child is going to be born and it will be a Mendoza and he better take care of her because if Cristobal dies, this is the only child he'll have. Sev tells her Cris will NOT die and she'll never say that again! He throws her over a couch. I'm not sure what happened, but there's blood coming out of her ear.

I can't even begin to do justice to Sev's reaction. A twisted sort of laugh with a single tear followed by cara de what have I done? (Alexis Alaya is KILLING IT. Oh. Bad word choice.)

Recently I read the following comment on Caray:

"I possibly do not understand all the secret unwritten rules here. "

The rules aren't secret and they've all been put in writing. They were all created by Jane, our BlogMom. They are as follows:

1. No spoilers. A spoiler contains any comment that alludes to something that will happen in upcoming episodes. We are often weeks behind the Mexico broadcasts and those can often be found online. If you've watched ahead, refrain from saying anything about what's coming. Even "I've watched ahead and you won't believe what's going to happen" is considered a spoiler. Stick to the episode we are discussing.

2. No talking about the actors' personal lives.

3. Acknowledge the recap, but don't criticize it or the recapper. Please see this post about the care and feeding of a recapper and this post about etiquette.

It doesn't matter if you read the recap or not. It doesn't matter if the recap 5,000 words or 500, someone watched the show, translated the episode from Spanish to English, wrote a summary and posted it for you so you would have a space to talk with others about the show. If you can't think of what to say, "thank you." is sufficient. Adulation is optional.

We welcome your comments. The more the merrier, but please follow the guidelines. If you are an Anon, please consider signing off with some sort of handle. It's so much nicer to address a name than "Anon12:43"

Thanks, Sara! Wasn't expecting to see this up so soon. Well done amiga!

A few thoughts before bed. Since the expected response to the Al Silvia conversations will be against Al, I will play devil's advocate. All Al said was true. That "kiss" was nothing more than Ren placing his lips on her unresponsive ones, and she HAS told him her heart only beats for Cris. And, yes, much of Silvia's "concern" and snippiness is not because she's looking out for Ren, but purely because she's jealous and wants Ren for herself. There. I said it. That being said, I think it was good for both women to hear how their actions are being perceived, and hopefully it will cause them both to reconsider their behavior.

Poor baby Cris! He even had tears in his eyes as he accused his parent of kidnapping him and wounding his soul. And then when he fell and started screaming and bleeding out, it was like watching a trapped wounded animal. I just wanted someone to rescue him from his supposed caring family.

I agree that Aldonza was unresponsive to the kiss. But to say it was just a brushing of the lips? I'm beginning to think I'm not remembering it correctly.

I don't think I'm that mad at Aldonza. It's just starting to feel a little Gata-esque. They are never together and no lovin.

At least shirtless Eman makes up for it. :)

Oh yeah, that Eman scene was a nice gift from the writers. It was totally gratuitous and I'm ok with that. :)

Thank you Sara. I've only read the short version until I have a chance to watch. I just wanted to point out that Padre J. already had a copy of Sev's signature. Sev and Cande signed as witnesses on Emmanuel's birth certificate. Padre J. Made a point of mentioning that to Adelina.

Can't wait to see this episode and read the rest of the recap. Looking forward to Eman in a towel.

Sara, thank you for the recap! I love how the short version is like a hellish Dick and Jane book :D

They totally heard us on the patio about shirtless Emmanuel. Who was it who said they'd tune in if he was shirtless every night? Thank you for that!

"Come at me ho!" Priceless!

I don't get the Aldonza/Silvia conversation either. Where does Aldonza get off being all holier-than-thou "This is bringing out the worst in you."? Maybe it was the way it was delivered, I don't know. Or maybe the fact that in the last couple of episodes, Aldonza hasn't seemed all that interested in Cris, and it's more like Renato really wants her to see him. But then they didn't have Silvia confront Cris' parents at all, when she very easily could have. It feels like there's a disconnect between what people are saying they want and what they're actually doing and this was just the latest incident.

Loved Alexis' hysterical laugh with the single tear. Made the whole thing creepier. And I guess it's RIP Simoneta. We'll find out for sure tomorrow. What with his DNA all over Simoneta's place plus the baby, you'd think it would be a no-brainer that he's the one who killed her (again, assuming she's actually dead), so obviously the cops are going to screw up this investigation as well. I'm not looking forward to that...if it happens at all.

SARA--Thank YOU! Loved your recap! Especially all the updates as the recapper cycled through various reactions: snorting, throwing things, yelling, etc etc. I for one had to get up and leave the room briefly while Chris pulled his IV out and then lay screaming in agony. Blech!

So Eman is going to a big horse show, win money and fame with El Solitario, and he thinks Sev won't find out about it? Oh brother. Eman did look great in that towel, but I was also drooling over that yummy looking quesadilla stand in the plaza. :o)

J in Oregon

Gracias, Sara.

Now I'm really concerned about Emanuel. He's not a 90-lb weakling, but two against one and one of the two with a knife doesn't look good for him.

I truly don't think Mari loves him, either. She's just pulling Mean Girl crap to steal him from Lola the same way Valeria pursues Cristobal. And after what she said in last night's episode her comeuppance will be very satisfying when it's discovered that it wasn't Cristobal who knocked her up. If that baby is born I hope Irma gets custody.

Good point about the signatures on Emanuel's birth certificate; I had forgotten that. Does anyone see excommunication in Candela's future?

I think this is the end of Simoneta. Blood coming out of the ear never led anywhere else before.

More later.

Sara. Thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! YOU took one for the team.

If this isn't the most maddening, frustrating episode yet, it certainly is second. The successful attempts to keep Aldonza out of Cris's room; Cande and Sev's bull-headed, psychotic hatred of Aldonza and insistence on denying her the right to see Cris even when the idiots were told he needs comfort and rest, even when he has used every ounce of his coherence to BEG them to let him see her, even when he almost kills himself trying to get out of bed to see her! Hum's constant caving. Cande and Sev's constant bellowing and schreeching! Oh. My. Frickin'. Gosh!!!!

Val's rotten ass plotting with Mari who has lost all redemption from the grief over Lardo; So did Mari and Vile plot to have Eman mugged? Didn't read comments yet so excuse me if this was addressed. Cande overhearing Silvia and Aldonza talking; and this:

Aldonza isn't going to squeal, is she? Aldonza says she'll keep her word, but warns Silvia that she's letting her feelings run away with her. That this love that Silvia says she has is bringing out the worst in her. What the hell is this?

What the hell, indeed? Bring out the worst in her??? What worst?? Is this what the writers think? Is Silvia supposed to be evil? What the hell has she done? FRUSTRATING!!!

Also maddening to see S/V naive enough to think something like Doctor/Patient confidentiality exists in Santa Lucia; maddening to hear Lola blurt out about the pregnancy as soon as she gets back to work. I admire Lola for taking Irma's advice to meet with and hear her mother out but I'm sorry, she's about a stupid, impulsive little heffa.

Maddening the attack on Aldonza by Vile in the hospital lobby. What the hell are these people trying to do? Who told them driving the viewer crazy was good? I even feel like screaming now just typing this. Saving scene of the episode:

Lawdy, that finely chiseled and slightly glistening six pack; those arms the perfect picture of muscled symmetry, not grossly swollen, just nicely ripped and naturally flexing with every move his finely manicured hands. . . . Aaaaahhhh!

Doris, let's you, me and the rest of the Cougar Table go take out the trash that's trying to hurt Eman! INCLUDING Mari and Vile!!!!

Sara. Thank you, honey cause you coulda RPC'd the whole thing except Eman and The Towel!

Sara - Oh my, thank you for the snarktastic recap, esp. the short version! :-D

Seriously, the recap is better than the capítulo. Well, except for the Eman scenes.

Hmmm..... yes.... Lila .... we're on Trash Duty, girl! Gotta clean get rid of V&M toxic waste and sterilize the patio. Eeeew.

Prime USDA beefcake alert! At first, I thought they were re-running a Tomas towel shot, since both guys ... um .... wrap to the left. ;-)

Nonetheless, gratuitous beefcake scenes are always welcomed and appreciated by the female viewers. (note to Telerisa: Bring it on)
I had to stop the FFWD-->, hit REWIND, and watch again because .. um ... the CCs were not working, ya know. (note to self: seriously consider becoming an Alex Sirvent fangirl)

Cris in hospital .... cringe-worthy scenes!!! I had to look away when he yanked out that IV from his wrist/hand/whatever-because-I-couldn't-look. Years (decades!) of allergy shots, flu shots, Red Cross blood donations, but I can. never. look. I am such a wimp. The IV one did me in. LOL

Hum's face when Lola said "it's my mother" was like --- "oh, okay, I know I'm living in a telenovela and anything goes." I'm surprised he didn't roll his eyes.

Urban - Blood trickling out of the ear is always an official telenovela sign that they are dead! I thought I've been hearing anvils clanging over Sim's head for a couple weeks. Lola making peace and showing compassion toward her sealed the deal. I've had a bad feeling, ever since.

And Looneyvision leaves us hanging over the weekend, worrying about Eman getting mugged! No puede ser!

Wait, Doris, is Sombra not coming on tonight? Oh no! We gotta find out what happened to E-MAN!

P.S. - Lila --- I am placing an order for some aluminum foil-lined telenovela beanie hats (see http://zapatopi.net/afdb/ to understand concept) that have chin-strap option. I have amazon Prime so they can arrive in two days for quick distribution to The Patio Peeps. Would you like one? Anyone else? Maybe some that have R.P.C. monogrammed on them for our faithful recappers? (monogramming is free)

Lila - Oh, that's right! It's Friday! I thought today is Saturday. LOL SEE what these telenovelas do to my brain? Well, that and hubby is heading out the door to play golf so that's why default brain mechanism says it's Saturday. Aaaaaack!

WELL THEN, Must See TV tonight!!! Eman better be unharmed (and un-shirted).

YES! Doris! Unharmed and unshirted! Maybe he should go to the hospital for observation. Surely they will have to remove his shirt to examine him!

And yes, please, I would like that beanie you describe: it sounds like it's industrial strength and the monogram is a nice, classy touch!

Poor Cris AND poor Simoneta/Viviana! And yes, Alexis is bringing it, BIG TIME! Sara, was that you or Vivi that told us about this amazing actor who once he nailed a scene would confidently call out "Cut the check!" Well, Alexis can shout that, for real. He is leaving "Cande" in the dust as a complex villain about whom you want to know more despite his depravity. That scene after he sent S/V catapulting over the sofa was one of anguish as if a deeper self surfaced for a moment and gazed in horror upon what the evil self had done! Damn! Powerful!

All of the hospital angst last night was exactly why I was fine that they spent last episode focused on Eman and Lola making out and the travels of the candy house, and not on Al trying to see Cris. Ugh! The person in that whole situation who ticked me off th most though is the one who let it happen- Humberto. He's a supposed doctor, yet denying the one thing that would give him patient peace of mind (Al), and allowing in people who he knows will upset him (his parents). I'm surprised he didn't give in and let Val in. Maybe that would drive Cris to commit suicide. That seems to be what they all want. Sheesh!

Goooood morning mah peeps!

Completely frustrating episode. I agree with everyone.

Let's not forget SBC monograms as well.

If Lola was going to blab about Sim's pregnancy, Irma was probably the best person to blab to. I think Irma can keep her mouth shut. I don't see her gossiping with Uriel about it or anything.

Well, Sara, this episode really interested me, and you covered it with such style and insight. Thank you very much!

I am enjoying you ladies reacting to towel-wrapped studly guys. I wish I had known that is how females think when I was in high school.

Yes, bleeding out of the ear after a blow somewhere else on the head is a really bad sign for S/V and the newest Sev Jr.

Aha! I saw what looked like a Ford tractor discing a part of the field in the background when Eman was asking permission to take a day off.

I cannot believe that Hum's clinic does not have a Doppler. These come in all shapes and sizes, depending upon whether they have recording capabilities or not, but you can get a simple hand held one that gives an audio signal and can be carried in your pocket for a few hundred dollars. Sara, that link you provided to Doppler exams was really good.

Also, what was Hum doing listening to Cris's foot with a stethoscope?

Val is just digging herself a deeper hole when she (who has paid for services rendered with sex, and is pregnant) calls Aldonza's character into question.

I don't know how they did it, but after the brainstorming session between Mary and Val, I do think that Mary had something to do with Eman being attacked on the street.

Next to Sev's masterful portrayal of evil, Cande is more like a one dimensional cardboard character.

Thanks again, Sara. Loved the episode, and loved your coverage of all of it.

David

Sara, this was a very dark episode with which you did a masterful job. You related the mostly very sad events yet peppered them with wit and wry statements that somehow soothed the after effects of the hard to watch events. Your embedded vocabulary is greatly appreciated.

Pablo/Cris had me covering my mouth with my hand watching "A bloody mess and recapper nausea ensues" and "Screaming. Falling. Table Toppling. Bleeding. Blergh" (all perfect). The actor did an excellent job of what appeared to be all too real.

"Pru in the church, not bursting into flames" had me smiling as did "Towel Chest. Chest. Chest." Excellent.

"(Alexis Alaya is KILLING IT. Oh. Bad word choice)" was my absolute favorite.

Sev haunted my thoughts last night. Alexis' performance was indeed stellar. Lila, your assessment that he is "a complex villain about whom you want to know more despite his depravity" was spot on. How do you explain cringing when you see him yet inexplicably, get so drawn into finding out what depravity is next??

I fear Simoneta is dead. I have a very difficult time when children or pregnant women or children or hurt or killed in TNs. She was so pitiful in her scenes with Lola. I am glad Lola was able to give her solace and comfort in what likely were the last moments of her life.

I'm with Vivi. Hum had begun to garner my sympathy but he is falling fast. He should monitor Cris' visitors carefully. And of course Sara, he was reprehensible in not going to see Simoneta immediately. Do we know why Hum's secretary/assistant seems to dislike Lola so?

doris, I am ordering my beanie today.

Diana

I agree, Vivi. The secret is safe with Irma, but Irma is being given a lot of information... and I think that could be dangerous for her. I can't remember... did Lola mention to her that Sim and Sev were lovers? I hope not.

I'm glad it was a good site I linked to, David. I usually do a quick search when I recap. I peruse quickly and hope that it's a relatively decent site. I like to keep up the illusion that TNs are educational so whenever I can include something vaguely educational, I do.

David, "Next to Sev's masterful portrayal of evil, Cande is more like a one dimensional cardboard character".

You are exactly right but somehow to me, she is equally as loathsome.

Diana

Morning everyone,

Sara - YOU are killing it! Thank you for the awesome recap and for giving voice to some of our strongest "yell at the tv" moments yet. I'm surprised Hum wasn't cringing from here b/c even I could feel you wanting to smack him upside the head :D Thankou for the awesome recap!

The only thing I don't agree with or understand about Aldonza last night was her comment about this "bringing out the worst" in Silvia. WTH? Silvia is kick ass! The only questionable moment she's had so far, imo, is when she told Cris to go to DF. Other than that, she's been on point. Yeah, she has a thing for Ren, but she's not wrong in that she's also trying to do what's best for him; THAT'S PART OF LOVING SOMEONE, ALDONZA. Instead of criticizing her, you should be taking notes. This isn't a Cade/Sev "doing what's best". She's not making stuff up, she's working only with the truth. She's not harping on Ren everyday; several times she would've just gone about the rest of her business if Ren didn't bring it up because it makes him uncomfortable that's she's not down with his plan for Aldie-World domination. She argued with him, then agreed to let him hang himself.

Ugh, sorry. Let me not start this morning with a rant. Let me rewind to a shirtless Eman and return to the patio after my anger as turned to drooling and reaching for the tv.

Patio Peeps, send good vibes my way. Grandson, 10 years old, slid into second head first (!) and now has a broken finger. Needs surgery, (general anesthesia, ugh!) and pin. Keeping other grandson today. Sure all will be well, but any procedure is worrisome, especially on a little loved one.

I'm finally caught up, should be back later today with more comments and beanie order. Doris, we'll have lunch again for the product delivery!! I think is my turn to drive down your way.

Sara, loved your recap especially your translation of that ghastly word, abagaducho, the sound of that is just as unfortunate as the meaning. Yes, we're all here for our education, the fun is just a happy coincidence! THANKS Sara, fantastic as usual.

Sara, IS KILLING IT!

"Recapper approves his choice of towel. It offset the chest nicely"

I was ok with both conversations between Silvia and Aldonza right up to Aldonza's chide. What she doesn't know is Silvia held back on throwing Renato totally under the bus by not disclosing he knew of a way to settle the brother/sister thingie and chose to remain silent. If Silvia the bad girl she'd start off with that and say Renato threatened her with dismissal if she spoke of it. Me thinks Aldonza's pissy attitude, more about Silvia tactfully calling Aldonza out. She knows, Silvia knows, she knows.

Severiano - Oops...I did it again

Cris - that rollaway table kicked my ass, held me down and must be on daddy's payroll

Aldonza - don't you get it, for those two kisses my field was plowed

Humberto - just everybody shut the hell up, we'll have a breakdance off to decide

Pru - naw PJ, just working on my lie to my husband in a quiet place

Simoneta - playing with Ire

Renato - girltalk, that can't be good

Lola - screw it, don't care, he's hot

Due to circumstances last night I ended up watching the second half three times (once when I got home from walking with hubs, again when I watched the whole episode and the third time when I recapped) and I was pretty much ok with the Aldonza/Silvia scenes until that "it brings out the worst in you" line. And I just got madder every time I heard it. I haven't seen any kind of behavior from Silvia that remotely resembles "the worst" in anyone.

Hellashelle - I may have to join you at the rant recovery table. Em in a towel will keep my mind off that line.

Sandy in TN- I am sending healing vibes.

Oops, tofie YOU did it again.

Sev's entry- nailed it.

Diva- I'm glad you liked the "come at me ho" line. Being the super mature person that I am, I giggled at myself when I wrote it. That was one of those scenes that I would love to watch with my classes.

J in O and others- I think I was more nauseated by Cris tearing out the I than all the blood.

Sandy in TN - OUCH! You and your grandson can have all my good vibes b/c that sounds painful!

Tofie - omg, every point on the list today is GOLD!

thanks so much , Sara, for taking one for the team. I missed last night due to overnight guests. I think that I should thank my lucky stars I missed this mess of frustration. When will the tide turn on the baddies ?

It is the point in the tn where the baddies always seem to be winning and the goodies always seem to be losing.

No amount of cake or sundaes is going to fix this.

Sandy...I am sending good vibes to your grandson. Hub played baseball all through high school and legion ball, so I have seen some injuries. He once got spiked right through his foot sliding into home.

Figured out RPC. What is SBC?

And, thanks.

Cakes and sundaes will not fix this. It's true.

Still, I must try.

SBC = "sweet baby chihuahuas"

”Also, what was Hum doing listening to Cris's foot with a stethoscope?”
- Listening for blood flow. They teach that in Telenovela Univ. Med School 101 classes.

Sara – SBC! will be available in Block and Script fonts. No charge for the exclamation point.

Sandy in TN - Thank heaven Humberto is not on staff at our local hospital. That child needs …. ice cream! Yes, let’s have lunch soon. We will have our own local Patio Committee meeting., swap beanie hats, etc. :-D

Sandy- Oh, no! Your poor grandson. I agree, he needs ice cream, stat!

Hi Sandy, sending comfort and hugs.

Surgery is tough, especially on children. I'll join the chorus for ice cream.

Diana

Excellent recap Sara!
Loved (and matched) your reactions!
ITA David about Val is just digging herself a deeper hole…can’t wait for the reveal of Pru and Val after her righteousness about coming from a “good family”.
Didn’t even consider that Mary might have had something to do with Eman being attacked on the street?
Eman is HOT, HOT, HOT! Definitely need more shirtless scenes just because.

Sara, you are a treasure with these recaps! Mucho mucho gracias.

I think we are in the part of the TN where we want to shake the heroine silly. Seriously, what was that with Silvia? We didn't know better, for all her bluster about Cris being her true love, I would swear that came off like a jealous retort to the girl who has the guy she really wants. Why do the writers keep doing that?

I can't even with Sev and Sim. First, I'm sorry--does she have that syndrome where she forgets things every 24 hours, because HELLO!!! You KNOW this man, he has hit you, he is a lying maniac, and you're giving HIM ultimatums. Yeah, now we know where Lola gets those mis-firing brain cells.

As for the one-armed bandit, both Lola and Hum know about Sim (I count out Cande because, well, she's Cande). So something happens to Sim, they have to know it's him. What is he planning to do, off half the town to keep his secrets?

But then, we have the towel...such a pretty towel, made of a fine quality cotton I could see. Seemed to have a nice drape to it. I did some close ups shots again this morning to look to see how it was made. Nice, very nice. Excuse me, I need to go get some very cold water from our water cooler.

Daisynjay

Poor boy, Sandy, hope all goes ok with your grandson and he convalesces quickly. He was going for it though come heck or broken finger.

Daisynjay - We are going to pass the basket for contributions so that we can buy one of those patio mister devices. I've seen them out west in desert climes, for outdoor restaurant seating. We girls on the Patio need one. Or two.

As for Aldonza-Silvia convo, we finally saw Aldi in touch with her inner bitch.

Since it looks like Sim is history, along with her unborn child, it is unlikely the writers will have Val miscarry. Have there ever been two miscarriages or lost babies in one telenovela? Besides, having to raise Lardo's child will be enough punishment ... er ... consequences for Val's crimes against humanity.

Sev does not need to know that Irma knows about Sim's pregnancy. The writers can NOT hurt or kill off Irma. She is the. most. compassionate. person. in this story. If they kill her off, my TV screen will not survive.

I'm not sure who did the recap, Sara or Hellashelle, but girls you" kick the bucket over the hill"!!! Gooooooood recap.
What the hell can I say sbout sev, OMG, are you kidding me? No this is sev in all his evil, nasty, vindictive, slimy glory. There's a special place in hell for this (and I use this term loosely) man. I will coment more later I gotta get back to work.

Thanks Sara, you said exactly what I was thinking with the Aldonza Sylvia conversation. I was incredulous at Aldonza's responses. If she really wanted to stop Renato from thinking he has a chance with her, she needed to tell Renato after he kissed her that he needs to stop thinking that they will ever have any relationship beyond friendship because she doesn't feel that way toward him. And make it very clear so that he isn't confused any more.

I too, felt that Sim and Lola have been having their goodbyes that last two shows. They made up and made peace, now Sim can die without Lola feeling guilty.

It didn't occur to me either that Mari had anything to do with Emanuel's attack. It just doesn't seem like she could have lined all that up that soon after learning he was there. I figured her plan was to show up and to take a selfie with her and Eman and send it to Lola.

It was absoutely Sara. While I'd love to claim the rights to the cool, refreshing recap with snarky undertone, mine are not so awesome.

Alexis Ayala has joined my fave list (SN, LC, CE, and Lucero all grace it). He's plays the villain so well and with such complexity! Man really knows his craft!

Man, Lola can't keep a secret to save her life! Glad her mom is(was?) the same and told her that Sev was capabale of killing her, because we know Lola won't let that slide. Sev's crimes are coming to light!

Meanwhile, I can't believe Mari is behind this thing with E. Seriously, do they have those kinds of criminal contacts? In San Miguel? So far, the only connection I can think of is Lardo's "buddy" Adriano, and not only do they not really know about him, they don't know he's there, do they?

Sandy - Good luck with your grandson's surgery!

Diana - I agree that although I consider Cande one dimensional she is still a hateful character. I wonder how believable she would be if she didn't have Sev to reverberate off of/harmonize with? She only seems to be able to scowl and stomp off in a snit. (Of course the tight braids add to the effect.)

Doris - I understand all about Telenovela Univ. Med. School, but the fact is, if you could hear blood flow with a stethoscope, you wouldn't need a Doppler! So the script is internally inconsistent with itself. That's what bothered me.

Daisynjay - Yeah, when Sim said the baby she was carrying would have equal rights with Cris, it was all over with for her.

David

I don't fault Aldie for the stuff leading up her "brings out the worst in you" comment, which was so dumb that I can barely deal with it. She has been clear with Ren, multiple times. She hasn't taken the ideal high road of just jumping ship because we all know that she doesn't have any other resources. In an ideally moral road, she would leave, build her fortune elsewhere and hope to come back in a few years with enough money to restart "sus planes," but this is a TN and she's only got like 2 more months to get it done. Now, yes, what she should have done after the kiss was say "Stop it. I'm sorry, but I don't feel that way about you. That kiss stirred nothing within me because I DO NOT THINK OF YOU THAT WAY. I'm glad we're friends, but that's as far as it goes. Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?"

I have avatar attention issues and decided to change again. I'm not sure if he'll show up very well, but it is a rather sly looking chihuahua.

Val-It's going to be super delicious with cake, and sundaes and ice cream when she gets her comeuppance. Her smug "yes I'm a señorita from a good family" made me want to do some throat punching and shin kicking(™Diva).

Mari-I actually did not connect Mari and the Muggers (and their smash album "Mess with Lola). I'm not sure if they are connected. I can't wait to see. I just assumed that Mari would take advantage of the Candy House and Em's absence.

Alexis- is now on my list of actors I love to watch. He is amazing in this role. I believe this part was originally played by Alejandro Tommasi, who is another actor on my love to watch list. I suspect that Alexis is doing a far better job. I cannot fathom a better performance. (But I've never seen the original.)

Cande- I know that there was some criticism in Mexico that she over-acted in this role. I can sort of see that. I think I just like her better as a nice person. And really...you can never live up to Daniela Romo (who played the Cande role in El Manantial.)

Aldonza- Oh Aldonza. I think my issue is the same issue Hellashelle has. You said NOTHING after Renato kissed you. You know how he feels. What did you think would happen? And I don't know about the rest of the patio, but I still remember that little sly scowl you gave Silvia at the funeral. Make up your mind. You can't insist that there is nothing between you and Renato and at the same time show a little jealousy. And didn't you say to Lola that maybe Renato moved your tapete a little? Why is Aldonza throwing shade on Silvia. "Brings out the worst in you" my ass.

Writers-Please see the thoughts on Aldonza. You are messing with our heads. Which is it? She likes him or not? It's getting annoying.

Sara - Sweet Baby Chihuahuas!!! I love your new avatar!

Thanks, doris. BTW I will be placing my order for SBC monogrammed beanie this weekend. Are sequins available? I gotta have some bling.

Aldonz's shame on you comment to Silvia to me smacks of her total conviction, she is right about everything. How dare anyone point out her game and I do believe Aldonza is aware the fine line she treads. Her relationship is more than just a good buddy and while Aldonza has repeatedly told Renato no, she has involved him with everything in her life, including her finances and in perpetuity. She runs to him first on any issue, personal, financial or legal and proved when she had Renato deliver the divorce papers to Cris personally so as to cross the t and dot the i on who's her back up guy. In fairness to Renato, I understand how he would assume once Cris out of the picture he legitimately would have a shot, he kissed her once and no protest and he went in again with no protest.

Sara, that avatar is darling

I don't know David. He asked for the Doppler because he can't hear the pulse well or at all with the stet, but that doesn't mean he just won't even try, does it? My doc once rolled out an ultrasound to find a vein for me, but not until the nurses had tried to get blood from three different locations.

I can understand some confusion over her own feelings. Even if she loves Cris, their hurdle is, as Vivi described, boulder sized. I can see her having feelings for another, but knowing they're nothing compared to her "true" love. The problem is, the writing team has done a crappy job of selling he A side of the Aldonza/Cris grand love story. Cris has been all in from jump, but Aldie's been lukewarm at best for like 90% of this. The sad part is, it doesn't take much in a TN, 3 or 4 big scenes at the beginning and a couple handfuls of longing looks could've upped the A/C flavor content by leaps and bounds. smh, sloppy.

I was really on Aldonza's side until that comment to Silvia. I wish I could explain why it bothered me so much, but it just did.k

I think maybe it's because Silvia really hasn't done anything that bad. She's even trying to help Aldonza at the hospital. Sheesh.

Sara, for me it was the tone of voice and that smug look on Aldonza's face. She was rubbing it in Silvia's face that in a pissing contest for Renato, Aldonza wins and they both know it.

"The problem is, the writing team..."

Word. It's hard to really pull off the "love at first sight" thing. And that's on the actors. I do like Pablo and Michelle, but they haven't really sold it.

I almost hate to compare it and I know it's colored by my on sentiment, but as a viewer I totally bought the love at first sight from William Levy and Maite Perroni in TdA (which I just saw again this week.) As I do in CCEA. William and Maite sell it...good.

And as much as I dislike her, Angelique Boyer can sell that sort of thing too.

Even the first kiss in DQTQTQ sold me.

We ALL agree on Em and Lola. mmmmmm.....

Even Pato and Lola in the elevator worked.

I'm with you, hellashelle. The writers AND actors have not done a great job with the romance part of the lead couple...which has had a ripple effect in other parts of the story.

tofie, "She was rubbing it in Silvia's face that in a pissing contest for Renato, Aldonza wins and they both know it." A pissing contest she keeps INSISTING she's not even IN!

Behavior Unbecoming a Protagonista!

"Behavior Unbecoming a Protagonista"

I like this. I think you've used it before with Galan behavior, too. I really need to make a note of it in Sara's Style Manual of Writing Devices and Phrases Pilfered from Better Recappers.

And very true. Aldonza did not seem like a Protagonista in that scene. "Brings out the worst"....look in the mirror, Al.

"Behavior Unbecoming a Protagonista!"

In-friggin-deed

Pissing contest, yes, tofie, that was how it came off. Sure, Sylvia loves Renato, but she has never been bitchy back to Allie. If anything, she wished them well and asked her not to hurt him and stepped back. She took the job mainly because dude got her fired and he owed her, and she needed the work and money. Sure, she gets to see him, but not like she's all over him. I give Sylvia that, she has been class.

And I agree with those who say those TWO kisses she had with Renato, his hands gently cupping her face, were her opportunity to take his hands down, look at him and say NO! I don't feel it, I love you like a brother, but it isn't there. But she didn't, she looked all shy and confused and I could just picture him walking off doing the fist pump thinking "yeah, I got a chance still". Channeling her inner mean girl a la Mari is not endearing.

Speaking of whom...I hadn't thought about Mari being responsible for E-man's mugging. So help me, she did, I want her as far away from Pato as they can possibly make her. No way No how would she deserve to get him in the end of she had stooped to that crap. Sorry--the thought fires me up. Call it the Cougar in me protecting our sweet Pato.

Daisynjay

This novela is filled with silly, snipping female cat fight jealousies. It is like all of the women, except Irma, are stuck in the 8th grade. I fully expect to see a street brawl with hair pulling soon, that is the logical and inevitable ending to all this pettiness. Aldi's comment to Sylvia was the genetic response of any female living in St. Lucia in conversation with a perceived rival. Cande will win the street brawl, her hair is too tight to pull, she'll have a field day with Aldi's long beautiful, shiny locks.

Thanks for the well wishes, surgery at 2:30 Central time and Susanlynn, it was a spike /hand situation too!

Mari had the help of our lil bitch Val and bet she knows some ne'er do wells that could rough Emanuel up a bit for sport.

Keep us posted, Sandy!

And I LOVE your description of all our 8th graders and I would LOVE to see that street brawl!

Hellashelle, a stethoscope can only pick up turbulent blood flow, like when a faulty heart valve lets some blood squirt through (a heart murmur), or when a blood pressure cuff is slowly released giving you values for systole (when it becomes audible), and diastole when it quits, and normal, silent blood flow returns.

If your doc located a vein with an ultrasound unit, then you have had a Doppler. Notice that he didn't try to locate it with a stethoscope.

David

What really gets me is that Aldonza had this opportunity to get an ally, someone she could ask point blank, "what do you think I should do? I've been as upfront as I can be, but I don't want to alienate him. He's a good friend and lawyer and he's bankrolling my life. What would you advise?" and she blew it by pulling that nonsensical "worst in you" crap.

Now that Sev's killed his left hand man, how do you guys think he'll deal with S/V? My bet would be he'll just drag her back in to bed and play dumb and ask Hum to doctor the autopsy report. And I'm not on Hum about the visitation stuff because didn't he tell Cris that he would let Aldie in next time? He's asked Val repeatedly to stay the h*** away from the hospital, she just refuses to listen and he barred all but S/C because they also refuse to listen and instead yell at people in the hallway, which is upsetting to the whole clinic.

Hi David - thanks for the explanation (seriously, are you actually a doctor? I was kidding before, but are you really?) I figured because the pulse was so weak and he was afraid that the vascular tear(s) weren't fully repaired, he was just checking with all resources, no matter how far off. Thanks for explaining what's what.

PS: I return to Mari ranting for a brief moment: What is the deal with this "we're ignoring Mari" thing? Are they really? Because he's threatened E repeatedly over the happiness of his daughter, Irma's talked to him, they've both checked in with her at least a few times about the relationship. Does he want a daily rundown, because I feel like that's more supposed to be Val's department (well, a friend's dept anyway). I just don't feel like she's getting ignored. Lardo got more attention, yes, and it was unfair because he got the attention for being a jackass, but that didn't mean she didn't get any or even that she didn't get enough. Also, she is not 9 years old. What does she want her parents checking in on all the time anyway? How she's doing in school? If she's getting bullied in the cafeteria? If she needs money for the cheerleading trip to ponytail camp?

I love Tomaso. I especially adored him as Luis's right hand man in Alborada.

I agree that Alxis is great a playing evil. It is so easy to hate him.

Mari and the Muggers and their smash hit ''Mess with Lola.'' Ha
Mari needs to have that ponytail confiscated.

HellaShelle, I think I would say she feels ignored because (mostly Uriel) is acting like he lost all his children and not just the one. She keeps trying to say "I'm right here!" when he's all upset and he just comes back with a "You can't possibly understand my pain." attitude. As much as I dislike her, she doesn't deserve that. What she DOES deserve is for them to have a frickin' clue what she's doing and nip it in the bud, the way the keep lamenting they didn't do with Lardo. 'Cause you're right, she's not 9, but she's acting like it!

Sandy, good vibes for you and your family!

Wow! What a great recap Sara---Short and long,I love them both but of course, I have to love the long the most.

Vivi said it correctly---Cris needs to be rescued from his family punto. Case closed

I thought that lawyer Silvia would go ballistic and "blast" both Sever and Cande but she stood by and said nothing. QUE! I didn't get that at all. She could easily have thrown some legal threats Sev's way and shut them both down super fast. Court order, law suit, maybe a threat of arrest for blocking legal entry?

I couldn't tell if Sever was happy or sad over his latest victim. Looks like Siometa/Viviana and the unborn are finished. Will Sev be able to get used to the fires of hell?

Tofie---You're amazingly gifted. Your list belongs in the writers museum.

Vile sure has some nerve---Both her and her mother are going to fall hard.

Sandy TN---Hope your grandson pulls through with flying colors. I used to play baseball at school and for many weekend hours. I guess that I was lucky not having received any injuries. One never knows sliding into base. Good luck with the little guys injured finger.

eight hours to go until must see tv.

That's Writers Museum or Hall of Fame for all to read.

this telenovela is about 95% insanity and 5% of, your guess is as good as mine.
There are some who are living on Fantasy Island, and then theres the twilight zone crew, and theres the outer limites gang.
You can put anyone of these people in any zone and they fit perfectly.
Sev and cande are in their own separate universes and they often clash, poor cris.
this is just my comment about this telenova and the characters.this is the best way I can think of to describe these people. they are really really loopy. I've heard that TV and the movies often depict real life, can you imagine there are people like that in this world. I don't know anybody like them, at least not that far gone. But given time. Well anywho they're fun to watch sometimes, knowing that I can just push the button on my remote control when I don't want to watch them anymore.
but the difference between them and real life is that they have a happy ending.
but before that there's a whole lot of crap going on. Aldonza should be honest with herself and everybody else. I hope sim/viv isn't dead. And Im surprised hum hasn't had a heart atack yet, with all the lies under his belt. And on and on and on.

95% insanity 5% your guess is as good as mine

I think that's a perfect description, Nina.

Gringo I was a little disappointed with Silvia's calm, but perhaps I should respect her. She seems to be the only one that remembered she was in a hospital.

Sara - I'm don't think Silvia knows she is in a telenovela.

Forgot to add a good luck to Sandy!! Positive thoughts coming to you.

I wonder if Sev tries AGAIN to get Hum to hide or falsify something if that may be the last straw for our good doc and he refuses finally. What would Sev do then? Even if he takes it out on Hum, that won't solve his Sim problem. The dominoes are lining up.

Daisynjay

Yes. I'm definitely thunking of Sandy's grandson right now.

Healing.

Aaand I'm starting to get a little impatient for tonight. I'm hoping Sim makes it, but I somehow doubt it.

THANKS for the kind thoughts, grandson out of surgery and well. I'm an RN, but it is altogether a different feeling when it is your family. You just remember the bad outcomes, not the good.

Loved Irma's take on forgiveness, "Your time and what is correct for YOU" wonderful, I second that!

Again thanks for all your great vibes!

Wonderful news, Sandy! Thanks for letting us know. I hope ice cream is in the nieto's future. ;-)

Sandy - I'm glad the nieto is okay. I sent you an email a few minutes ago, just ignore it.

Sandy..So glad that your grandson is out of surgery. Sending good vibrations for rapid healing so that he is back in the game soon. To quote something hub used to say often, ''You win some, you lose some, some are rained out, but you've got to get dressed for all of them.''

Lots of ice cream for el nieto! Good vibes coming.

Sandy, love and light to your grandson, and to you!

:D

Unless there is another straw that broke the camels back this could be it. That crazy look on sev' s face tells me, he's flown over the coocoo's nest. This might mean theres no going back for him. Just as well, he's craped all over his life and everybody else's.
AAAAHHH THE WEEKEND", don't you just love it. Off topic: according to the weather report florida isn't the only state that will be under heat warnings, yall should be feeling It too. Stay hydrated on the patio people.
