La Sombra del Pasado #92 - Wed 6/24 - All…uh…some?...hmmm... A little bit is revealed

Padre J clarifies that what Lulu is passing out are the results of a test performed using blood samples from Severiano and Aldonza that proves that they are not related…and therefore that Aldonza and Cris are not related by blood…and therefore, there's no reason they shouldn't be married.  So he advises the two families to make their peace, because this is God's will.  Sev threatens Padre J, in front of all those witnesses, that he'll make them pay!  Aldonza starts looking around for Cris.

He's on a bus, thinking that she'll always be the love of his life, even if she is his sister.

"Now you're going to find out who Severiano Mendoza is!"  He storms out of the church past a genuinely happy, smiling, hopeful Aldonza who doesn't even spare him a glance.  Cande now chastises Padre J for the low blow.  He says he still wants her to help him make peace.  Instead, she makes for the door.  Nobody knows where Cris is.  Padre invites everybody to stay and say a Mass in honor of Cris and Aldonza staying together.  "Love should be a reason for happiness, not a source of conflict.  I'm very sorry that Severiano Mendoza and his wife Candela have left, but anyway, I will say Mass for peace…not just between those two families, but for all of Santa Lucia."  Looking around behind Aldonza, I'm not seeing a lot of peace there.  Joaquin seems very concerned.  Mari looks pissed off, as does Uriel.  Tomas' parents are whispering to each other.  Aldonza realizes Cris isn't there, but let's get on with the service!

Humberto wants to take Valeria to the clinic, but she refuses.  She says she's only like this because "those women" made fools of them.  She wants to go home.  Pru wants to go to Las Animas to offer their support.  Please do, Pru, I'm sure that won't upset Candela at all.  Humberto trails along behind them.

Severiano yells at Candela like this is all her fault for being dazzled by the likes of Padre J.  Well, really, who could blame her?!  He's got those strong…convictions.  Melesio arrives and lies to them that he dropped Cris off near the church while he went to park the truck, so Cris should be there somewhere.  Sev rips into him for not walking Cris all the way to the door.  He, Candela, Jacinto, and El Mudo head for the truck.  Mel is supposed to stay behind and look for Cris.  Dominga offers to stay with him and once they're alone…he tells her that Cris left town.  Dominga tells him what HE missed.

Mass continues.

All the grumpy people are at Las Animas.  Well, Humberto isn't grumpy…he says it was about time this happened.  He blames Sev and Cande for making up an unsustainable lie.  And if Pru wants to join in their stupidity, she's welcome to it, but he's outta there.  Cande comes running downstairs with a note from Cris saying he's left.

Alleged humor: Tomas and Lulu close the front door to the church and chat about what the heck all this "DNA" business is. Nyuk, nyuk.  Padre J explains to Aldonza that he had to do it this way, so Sev and Cande couldn't interfere.  And he couldn't tell her so she'd have plausible deniability.  Adelina says Padre J could go to jail for this, but he doesn't care.  He enjoyed seeing their reactions and wants to celebrate with chocolate and churros.

Clucking hen central, aka, the living room at Las Animas.  The note just said he's looking for Em.  His last cell phone broke and he never replaced it.  Val sees the bright side--he doesn't know that Aldonza isn't his sister.  This gives them a little time.  Sev vows to make Padre J pay…for now, he's going to talk to someone whose name is covered up by Pru's sneezing.  Nava?  Is that the lawyer?

Cande is still moping when morning comes.  She didn't even bother to dress for bed or let her braids down.  She doesn't know what hurts worse…Jeronimo's "betrayal" or Cris' leaving.  Dominga advises her to get up, have a bath, and get out of the house.  Cande whines that Jeronimo hit her where it hurts most…in other people's opinions.  She's not going to get in Sev's way this time.

Val meets Sev to talk about her dad.  Sev's sorry, but Humberto has set himself against Sev.  He has to go back on his word to Humberto, because he can't trust Humberto not to give the land to Aldonza.  They ALL want her gone…I'm having trouble following the conversation because there's some hand-holding…and stroking…and the creepy music…en fin, Sev has a plan.

Basically, Don Antonio wants to manage Em/Solitario.  He'll board Solitario, take a portion of the profits left over after expenses, and find Em sponsors.  The guy who was running the stable at the competition seems ok with Don Antonio, but I'm keeping my guard up.  As soon as Em and Don Antonio are gone, Cris comes up in a taxi and gets the news from the stable guy that Em made a big splash yesterday.

Sev reports to Cande that Val consulted with him…because she knows Cande is out of the game due to her recent humiliation.  They talked about Humberto & El Santuarop and about Val & Cris. He hopes Cande will support them.

Padre J visits Adelina.  She's having a crisis of guilt.  She calls herself a coward and says she can't confront Aldonza. She needs time to get her thoughts together.  Padre J asks why she's like this all of a sudden…"because Aldonza decided to open Ray's tomb."  Padre J  wonders if there's anything more she might find out, besides that there is no "sister" in there.  "Because Ray's death always seemed a little strange to me…."  Uh, is he fishing for information to confirm what Sev told him in the confessional?  Is this legit?  Do we have any theological scholars out there who want to weigh in?  Adelina begs him to quit searching, because there's nothing to find.  Padre J backs off and suggests she try to be calm and go on with daily life or Aldonza will be upset and she'll do something.

Pru has herself a good ugly cry, telling Hum that it's because Val left and she doesn't know where she's gone.  She packed her bags and left and they'll never see her again.

Really?!  That's great news!

What?  You were thinking it.

Mel goes over to El Santuario to tell Aldonza that Cris skipped town.

Thoughtfully, he calls Dominga to tell her that he's fine.  She tells him to get home NOW!  He and Aldonza aren't siblings!

Aldonza tells Adelina that Cris skipped town, supposedly looking for Emmanuel.  She's worried that he'll never come back.

Cris asks if Dominga is sure and she tells him what happened in church.  When she hears Cande coming, she starts telling her "comadre" that first you put in the chilies and then you put in the diced onions, and she's gotta go because her boss needs her, but she'll call back later and giver her the recipe properly.  (Comadre, btw, is "co-mother," the godmother of one of your children, or the mother of your godchild.  Informally comadre is also BFF.  Because, in theory, that's who you would ask to be the godmother to your children.)  Cande is looking for her keys, which happen to be in Dominga's cross-body purse.  Drink!  Cande asks Dominga to come attend to their guest.

Humberto blames Pru for letting Val leave.  Pru blames Humberto and his bad mood of late.  He blames her for running her mouth and says everyone's tired of her "mochería" (no translation found…it might be related to "mocha" or being Puritanical) and she has a "lengua viperina del demonio" (a hellishly wicked tongue).  She blames Humberto for "beating" Val, but he says he hit her ONCE because she was being disrespectful and the least he deserves, as her father.  He's ready to go out there and look for her, and he'd better not find her with Cris.  He's suspicious that they're both missing.  He's tired of Val treating them like servants when they're her parents.  Pru wants to go look, but he tells her to stay home in case she calls and not raise a fuss.

No worries, Hum.  Val's getting settled in at Las Animas.  Cande wants her to feel like a member of the family.  Val whines that Cris isn't going to like it when he gets home and finds her there.  She's sure Cris will come home.  She tells Cande that her parents were fighting all the time and she was just miserable.  Whatever, Val.

Sev wants to prosecute Padre J, even though Nava, the lawyer, is hesitant because of Padre J's respect.  He also wants time to find the right charges--something with ample proof so Sev doesn't embarrass himself by accusing the Padre and having the Padre get out of the charges.

Joaquin confesses to The One Cop In Town that he does know where Flavia is…or where she was anyway…and that now she knows that they're looking for her boyfriend.  He decided to tell the cops because he figures they can protect her better than he can in this situation.

Irma and Adelina have coffee or breakfast or something.  I don't see any desserts.  They talk boys and town gossip.  Uriel was actually happy to see someone confront Sev.

Cande praises Sev for his brilliant idea to have Val move in.

Humberto comes looking for Val and Cande admits that she's there, but she's soooooo upset and doesn't want to be with her parents.  Humberto is tired of being treated without respect. He wants her to come home with him and he's not asking!  Cande advises him to let her stay for a few days and she'll be home in no time, once she's had a chance to think about it.

Tomas praises Padre J for what he did in church the other day.  Padre J says all he did was tell the truth…and he advises Tomas to do the same.  Padre J is willing to face the consequences.  He tells Tomas it feels great to let go of your fear and tell the truth…it takes guts, though.  "Not everyone has guts."  Padre J agrees.

Cande tells Pru that Val is staying at Las Animas.  Pru cries about how she's going to have to confront horrible Hum all by herself.  And BTW, does anyone know where Cris is?  He didn't throw himself off a bridge, did he?  Ah, that's our Pru.  Always looking on the bright side.  Cande just doesn't appreciate her optimism and ends the call.  Pru muses that Cande's so delicate!

Renato has gotten the ball rolling on searching for Emmanuel.  And Silvia is working on the exhumation, but she needs the death certificates for Ray and Aldonza's sister.  Oh, and also, Aldonza and Cris aren't sibling, YAY!  Renato's face falls about 1mm and then he says he's happy for her…and for Cris.  Aldonza chirps on happily about how the whole scene in church played out.

Padre J is off to work.  He tells Tomas to look for a job while he's out.  And maybe clean house.  To his credit, Tomas starts clearing the dishes off the table.

Aldonza asks Renato about possible legal consequences.  He's going to research and help Padre J, but it won't be easy. Not least because Sev's furious at Padre J.  They hug and kiss goodbye and he lets himself out.  Adelina emerges from her hiding place, looking scared.  Renato takes a moment outside, pulls himself together, and gets on with his presumably lawyerly day.

Lola visits Mari.

Renato gets home and listens at Silvia's door while she tells Pato that she's determined to help Renato with Aldonza.  Even if they're never going to be together, she wants him to be happy.  Pato asks how Silvia is going to be happy….is she going to find a guy or what?  Well, being the classy broad she is, she answers thusly: "I don't know.  If one shows up, great.  And if not, that's fine, too.  What I need now is to find myself, recover, learn to love myself.  And I suppose if I find that, the rest will fall into place.  What I'm sure about is that I'm not going to spend the rest of my life crying over what couldn't be.  Renato, as a man, is a closed chapter in my life."  Renato out in the hallway, eavesdropping, looks contemplative.

Aldonza thinks about the day Cris surprised her, swimming in her skivvies.  Don Camilo announces the man himself, hobbling over her threshold.  He heard something that he needs to verify with her.  Aldonza tells him it's all true.  "So, are we going to leave all our problems behind?  Are you going to forgive me for what happened with Valeria?  And we're going to keep being husband and wife?"  Yep.  They celebrate  by smushing their faces together.

Is it horribly cynical of me to want to take bets on how long this face-smushing happiness lasts? An episode? Half an episode? Five minutes?

There was a lot of paraphrasing :D I give them half an episode.

Deleted for chronic rudeness as per the first comment.

Ah crap! I was so astounded by your speed that I forgot to thank you! So sorry and very rude of me. I apologize.

Lol...I think I surprised myself. Gracias, Sara :)

Let me try this again.

Wow! That was fast! Thank you so much. I'll come back in a minute to read it, but I just wanted to say that I don't think it is cynical. I had the same thought when they started smushing faces.

Oh Em Gee this is hilarious. I'm commenting from my phone so copying and pasting the great lines is a PITA so let me just not Padre's strong... convictions and clucking hen central.

Loved it! Thank you.

Damn. I forgot to tell hellashelle today that she is one of my recapping idols too! Did you see this hellashelle?

Needless to say, you are one of my recapping idols too Kat.

Sombra Team = Mutual Recapper Admiration Society

We are cuter than the Candy House!

Do we get t-shirts. :D

I do love our Sombra team. I really do get performance anxiety.

Diva, delighted to see your wonderful recap up so quickly, thank you! Really, all-yall, we have the best team of recappers EVER!!! I missed the entire episode except for the last 5 minutes, when Chris comes to Ald's house for a reunion. Smushy-face indeed. I kept admiring Ald's eyebrows...

So anyhoo, how is this lovey-dovey reunion going to end up, seeing as how Ald has never dealt with her horrific flashbacks and PTSD that prevent her from consummating her marriage to Chris? Is that going to just fade away?

I was delighted to see Tomas skip away with Lulu in the church. Who was it that predicted this pairing? My hat is off to you. Looks like that may be in the stars.

J in Oregon

Gracias, J :D They sure are some nice eyebrows, aren't they? I guess 40-some-odd episodes are plenty for a little therapy.

Lol, J! You sound like my female students. They are quick to point out when a character's eyebrows are "on fleek."

They highly approve of Barbara Mori's.

Diva, thank you for an awesome recap! I give it 13 minutes before Aldi and Cris call it quits again! My eyebrows will never be on point 😕

Gracias, Eli! Lol...I bet your eyebrows have a better chance of being on point than Cris and Aldonza have of staying together for an entire episode!

Thank you Kat! I, like Sara, am astounded at your speed! ITA, with the above mentioned beloved lines, but I'm especially partial to this one, which is so telling: Cande whines that Jeronimo hit her where it hurts most…in other people's opinions. SPOT ON! Ugh - I seriously envy your ability to sum things up, while still staying detailed and spicy and snarky. You make it look so easy, goshdarnitall!

Well it only took almost 100 episodes for Ren to finally start getting a clue that Silvia is AWWWWE-SOME!!! I give serious thanks for her self-respect speech. A little obvious, but since we have to deal with such clingy, man-crazy women 99.5% of the time in TNs, I'm all for it. Is it mean that I wanted her and Pato to have suddenly become a thing and extra much so that Ren would kick himself for not having appreciated her before?

I dug the Lulu/Tomas scene. If he really does get on the ball with his job search, cleaning skills and Bible study (Lulu being a fixture there too...), there's hope for him yet!

I was about to worry about Don Anton changing his tune when he finds out El Solitario was "borrowed", but since Cris is back, I guess that won't matter?

Daisy - Maybe now that Val's in his house, Cris will be prompted to move out?

I'm all kinds of worried for PJ now. This is a real crime and he publicly admitted to it. I can only hope popular opinion is enough on his side to make a difference. If that means Sev and Cande are scorned and abandoned by the town folk, well that's a price I think we're all willing to pay :)

I'm all for Cris being happy, but Aldi seemed very willing to take her time getting started looking for him, no? I'm really baffled by the way this enamorada is written, de veras.

How did Padre J get Sev's blood for the DNA test? still surprised he didn't have a test done on himself and Ald.

Oh well, whatever--I love PJ! Let's see, how am I going to sit at the PJ table, PLUS the Don Camilo table, the Melesio table AND the if Renato's Dad comes back... Looks like I may have to become a Patio table-hopper! (Plus of course the Candy House table...)

J in O

Gracias, Kat. Great job.

After the padre was having so much trouble trying to forge Sev's signature and left Adelina alone in the office, does anyone think Adelina actually did this and he's taking the fall for her? Could that be part of her martyr complex and why she is of two minds about a relationship with Joaquin?

I'd like to see Cris sign Solitario over to Emanuel before Sev can take any action against him.

Does anyone else think that Tomas might end up becoming a priest? Wouldn't his parents love that?

What a wonderful way to try and get my eyes open this morning! Had to grab a coffee before heading in early and this got me giggling and joining in with some "hell, yeahs". Thanks so much Kat!

Allie can be so self absorbed when it comes to Ren...I know she was happy happy, but gees it's the guy who what, a few days ago, said he still loved you, and you dumped him, then you wanted him back as a friend, then you were flirty with when you thought you lost Cris,....don't get me wrong, sure she was in a bit of shock, but I did feel for the guy what his last week or so has been like with her.

Can we have a future TN heroine like Silvia and with the same I'm good on my own attitude?

Dang, I wanted Cris to find Em, but I guess he is needed back in town for some serious face macking and then having the floor fall out in the next couple episodes. (By the way--why was left feeling a little MEH when the two started kissing at the end? Surprised myself.) That moment when he sees Val moved in, you're right Hellashelle, that should be the I'm moving out moment, but we just know what will follow that moment. I need to remove any throwable objects when Val pulls the baby-daddy thing. I'm sure she will give it her full skank-ho effort. Blech.

Why do I keep getting weird vibes with Em and Don. I know it's partly the actor playing Don (I can never get his Pasion character out of my head---never. Boy that show had great villians), but it all seems so perfect so fast. This better be the poor guy, E-man, catching a break finally, or I'll implode.

Lola-Mari-same room. My eyes hurt, went for a snack.

Val & Sev. My lord, the creep factor in that scene was literally popping from the screen. I couldn't concentrate on any dialog ( so thanks Kat), because all I kept seeing was his hand and well, you all know. And she sat there with that stupid grin on her face. Something really not right is starting there.

Tomas - Lulu. Yep could see it after he'll become a reformed delinquent ( I mean, he cooked and did the dishes!.

Oh, Ade. Just spill already. Personally getting sick of her secret angst. Padre has a right to know about his brother and after he put his neck on the line for Allie--spill it woman. Swear she wallows in her self-loathing, sacrificial attitude. Get over yourself.

Daisynjay

Oh, UA just saw your comment about Tomas becoming a priest...hadn't thought that far, but you know, I could see that. Be a great plot twist.

Daisynjay

Kat- Thank you for the delicious snark and great recap this morning. I'm still basking in the glow of Padre J's awesomeness.

Tomas and Padre actually seem to be working out as roommates. Tomas is cooking, doing dishes, and cleaning! Someone should record it and send a copy to his parents. It's a miracle!

Both Cande and Adelina clearly stated their own problems. Adelina is a coward, and Cande's sole focus is the admiration of others. Padre J is the opposite of both of these. He's got guts, and doesn't give a darn what others think of him, as long as he knows he's on the side of truth and justice.

Morning everyone!

I never thought about Tomas becoming a priest, but it would be funny to see him try! omg, yes to everyone else that was creeped out by Sev and Val. The hand stroking was so disturbing. The way they're teaming up is disturbing. It definitely makes me wonder how they're going to play this i.e. if they're going to try to cut Cande out of things and actually team up or (and this is what I imagine will happen), someone or everyone will discover them in bed together. Let the gossipmongers chew on that, please!

Daisy - I agree that Aldonza with Ren was a little ridiculous last night. How can she be that oblivious? Although, I saw a friend pull something like that once and when I asked her about it she said that she figured if she just launched into how much she loved one guy, the other guy would take the hint and they could avoid an embaressing "I'm just not that into you" talk.

Did anyone else think the editing was weird last night? Just between the night and morning. I feel like we missed a scene with Ade and Al, and the scene in which Val storms out and calls Sev. I honestly rewound to make sure I hadn't skipped something because the break was so abrupt.

I did not pick up on the flirting Al was supposedly doing with Renato. Now, what Val and Sever were doing, was DEFINITELY flirting. Blech!

Glad to see Silvia's new attitude, and nice to see that it gave Renato pause. Now, did it only give him pause because he thinks he lost his chance with Al since she and Cris are not siblings? He wants Silvia to be his fall back girl, waiting in the wings for him in case things with his dream girl doesn't work out. We're always pointing out how Al is using Ren, because she knows how he feels about her. But Ren is using Silvia. He knows how she feels about him, knows she'll do anything he asks, AND they actually had a relationship (a sexual on, at that)! That makes what he's doing worse than what Al is doing, in my eyes.

Kat, fabulous and wonderfully wry. "He storms out of the church past a genuinely happy, smiling, hopeful Aldonza who doesn't even spare him a glance", "Cande whines that Jeronimo hit her where it hurts most…in other people's opinions", "the One Cop In Town" and "They celebrate by smushing their faces together" were wonderful.

“is he fishing for information to confirm what Sev told him in the confessional?” I believe so. I believe he was always suspicious regarding the circumstances of Ray’s death. Sev is a proven liar, perhaps he is fishing to see what the truth is…and I do not see this as any type of violation of the seal of the confessional.

I am a huge Aldonza fan but admit I was dismayed in that after she dropped (yet another) bombshell on Renato, she went over and sat down next to him (almost in his lap)! She knows how he feels and this was inconsiderate and thoughtless.

I hope Renato realizes what a gem Sylvia is. Open your eyes man. Good point hellashelle - he's certainly been given ample opportunity to notice, hasn't he?

Vivi, I'm hoping that Ren will see Silvia for who she truly is and that his affection will genuine change toward her - and for all the right reasons.

I'm sad that Cande has now turned against the good padre and I am very worried for him.

Daisy, you echoed my thoughts about the Dom and Em perfectly. Can he be trusted? Is there a scarcely noted burning glint in his eyes that may signal nefarious intentions? I hope his motives are pure because Em (and we) can't take anything else going awry!

J, you wisely brought up the issue as to why Aldonza and Cris have not consummated their marriage. And nothing has changed in that regard. I still hope major therapy is in store so everything will be brought out in the open and dealt with.

Kat, thank you!

Diana

Thanks, 5ft. Another gem from your fertile mind, studded with quips from whatever part of the brain where fun loving irreverence comes from!

One of the things I like about this tn is that the antagonists plans never seem to pan out, and it happens fairly rapidly. Therefor, when they plot, I get excited to see how the latest evil twist will crash and burn at the end of the runway.

I hope Sev is successful in having PJ prosecuted, that he is found guilty, that the court deems the appropriate punishment is the payment of one peso to the Mendoza's, that Sev has to pay court costs and attorney fees, and the court extends a sincere thanks to PJ for unearthing a terrible wrong, even if he did do it illegally.

I hope somehow when Val drops her bomb, that something else enters the mix to immediately derail the effort and expose her for the kind of woman she really is. My preferred vehicle for this would be a boozy Pru shooting her mouth off, or saying something to Hum that causes him to put 1 +1 together, and then rat out his own daughter.

I hope that when Cris finds out that Val is with his mom and dad, that Cris moves in with Aldonza.

Renato looked like he was having a real life changing moment listening to Sil. Hope it persists.

Tomas a priest? I like it!!

Thanks again, 5ft. Always enjoy your work.

David

I'm with Diana on PJ's scene with Adelina. He questioned big Ray's death before the confession. I wish he'd just tell Ade that no matter what happened that night, she's family and he hopes she can be honest and get her worries off her chest with him.

Daisy - By the way--why was left feeling a little MEH when the two started kissing at the end? Surprised myself. You're not alone. i want to love them, I really do, but I'm having a hard time connecting with this couple and it's mostly because I don't feel the love Aldonza claims to have for Cris. On Cris's side, I feel it, I support it, I want it because I want that character to be happy, but on her side..."eh" at best...I thought it did make sense that she stayed at the church for the mass rather than run off looking for Cris, but I thought for sure as soon as it was over, she'd be off like a shot. Instead, she's chilling out with chocolate and churros. There wasn't even a line about how she'd better wait until tomorrow because Cande and Sev looked homicidal or anything. And what about the next morning? Melesio has to come tell her that Cris left? She didn't think to call him or Dom for Las Animas intel? And even after he delivered the news, nothing. She's chillin' on the couch when Cris comes limping in. As soon as he got the news, he came right back, cane and all, and right to her. She couldn't even be bothered to pick up the phone and ask Lola's grandparents about him? She seemed way happier to have the news than to have her husband back. Which I hate! I love LOVE and TN LOVe is so fun and simple and they have just dropped the ball this time and I am so disappointed!

Ok, no, I'm done. I'm just mourning my modern fairy tale love.

Thank you 5ft, terrific job as always. I'm surprised at how fast things are moving. I didn't expect Cris to learn the results so early, or to come back so soon.

Why wouldn't Cris move into El Santuario now that he's married? No need to go back home. I'm with you all that Cris and Aldonza won't last one more episode together. Val will blurt out that she's expecting Cris's baby, so there's that.

What's with this over done crying and hand wringing over their ADULT children leaving? These smothers are too much.

I also agree with you all about the callous way that Aldonza tells Renato about Cris and her not being siblings, and her gushy happiness over it, without any regard to how SHE KNOWS Ren feels about her.

If Sev gets Padre excommunicated from the church, I'm hoping that it frees PJ up to spilling the beans about everything he knows about what Sev told him in the confessional. Or at least PJ can threaten to tell all if Sev sues him.

Cathyx - OOH! That would be so good! If Sev brings down the law, I want PJ to say "I'm not afraid to go to prison. You know, we're supposed to keep the rules of confession, even if we leave the church, but I don't suppose I'll have anything left to lose, will I? You, on the other hand...oh, sorry, I guess there's only one for you, huh?" Not that PJ would be that corny, but whatever, it brings me satisfaction to imagine it.

I hope Val and Cris have a public "how did this happen?" where she specifies that it happened "That Night." Then I want her to pass out, Hum has check her out and he realizes it's all a terrible lie. The question is, would he be angry and/or just enough to tell the truth? I feel like Pru and Val could break him down with the crying and the "family/daughter shame" story, plus the whole "you slapped me! You never support me!" etc, etc. Plus, he's mad at how Cris treated Val and he hates Sev at this point. I don't know how this would pan out.

LaDiva- loved your recap, loved this episode too.
I'm very happy that padreJ didn't back down. He may be in for a bit of a storm, after battling the monsoon and the hurricane that is sev and cande, I think he'll come through it. Lets send him our love patio peeps.
Ok cris get your bride upstairs and start as the old folks used to say "burn the barn down". Now for you (young) folks that's conssumate till the cows come home. That is if she can. I hope so, that joy will be short lived when the "baby daddy" lie comes out.

Lulu and tomas looked do cute walkin down the aisle, after closing the church doors. If only it could be!!!

Why sugar coat things for Renato? He knows where he stands and he knows how Al feels about Cris. She had no part in Cris passing the baton, so to speak, and giving his permission for Ren to woo Al. If she had seemed subdued about the news that she's not married to her brother, then he probably would have taken that to mean he has a chance with her. Look how many times HE has gushed about Al in front of Silvia. I do agree Al could have been a bit more sensitive, but Ren is no innocent victim here.

Excommunication might do that, but it would hurt the padre terribly. He is a true man of God who is dedicated to his parish and to the truth, etc. I don't know if the Anglican church would accept him after this, either.

Although that would allow him to marry. Candela's braids would spring out at that.

Urban- I agree. Excommunication would hurt Padre J to the quick, and I don't want to see him hurt or in pain. He loves the Church, and so I want him to be able to stay in the Church.

"Although that would allow him to marry. Candela's braids would spring out at that".

That made me laugh out loud UA! I don't want the padre to be excommunicated and certainly hope things wouldn't get that far. I've often thought Adelina and the padre would be a good couple were he not a priest.

Diana

Yes Vivi, the Padre belongs in the Church. What a force he has been! I wish we (the Catholic Church) had thousands more like him.

Diana

Well Diana, y'all (the Catholic Church), have an amazing Pope. I love him.

"What's with this over done crying and hand wringing over their ADULT children leaving? These smothers are too much."

Took me a minute but "smothers" gave me a giggle (my first thought was The Smothers Brothers.)

Cande is definitely a smother. Pru is more like a.... I don't know... She's like the opposite of smother. She's metiche but it's like she's so afraid to discipline or squelch her child's spirit or something.

Pru just thinks Val's a pretty, pretty princess. Hum was right: Val treats them like servants. Servants she doesn't like or respect. It's almost like they never bonded when she was a baby. It's funny, we come down on Hum for not truly treating Em like a son, but he seems closer to him than he is to Val. I def get the feeling he was a 1940/50s stereotype dad i.e. pat the kid on the head and give 'em a quarter for reported good behavior and send them on their way. I think their relationship would be largely the same if he and Pru had divorced when she was younger and they lived in different households.

PJ would make a great police chief.

I don't think Aldonza should sugar coat things for Renato, but she could've been more tactful in delivering her great news. Just like she can insist on splitting the bill when they go out. And keeping a running tab of his lawyer fees.

Even if he is excommunicated I still think he will still be a man of God, his faith is strong, and he is a man of strong conviction. He has the truth on his side, sev is a liar from the root.
Wouldn't it be great if cris & ally surprised all of us and stayed together even after the baby daddy news? From our lips to Gods ears, "the telenova gods".
It would be nice to see cande's braids fall out. But I think if there was a chance for jeronimo and cande, the girl done killed it with all those lies.
Tomas as a priest, I'd rather see him with lulu, the boy needs to know what real untainted love feels like. I don't like that thing he has with pru the Shrew. But its not up to us. It will be interesting to see how that turns out though.

I have to say, I will be screaming at the TV if neither Allie or was it Lola or Ade, after hearing about any bombshell from Val, don't even remotely think of seeing Val and Lardo making out and being together as a possible fraud in Val's tale. Knowing Allie, she will immediately sabatoge her and Cris and do a total buy-in.

I took that whole Ren listening to Silvia as the light bulb starting to come on moment the writers will need to make the pretty pink bow at the end. He's too cute to be left with no one, and has been a loyal friend to Allie. He did date Silvia for a time, and at that time didn't work, but I've seen where in college someone didn't hit it off, then they meet up again, and now all "grown up" they seem to click. That big sigh as he left the house yesterday was like, crap, I'm just done now. Cue the Silvia talk and voila, we have set up.

Poor Pato though---but if pairing him means Mari, NO NO and NO. He can stay single.

Lots of great comments, but unfortunately the day has gotten away from me. I will return for more conversation if I can, but I think I'm going to be stuck surreptitiously checking my phone and giggling for the rest of the day.

I might be the only one who feels this way, but I was sickened by how Dominga treated Cande back at the house after what went down at the church. Dominga was there, she knows what Cande did in falsifying the DNA test, and she still treated her like she was her sweet little baby who told a fib to the priest with her fingers crossed behind her back. No wonder Cande acts like she does. She had a mother figure who let her get away with everything without any repercussions.

Not the only one Cathyx. Right there with you at that table. Want me to order a pitcher of watermelon margaritas?

Lol Sara. I wish I had that pitcher when Dominga was stroking Cande's head.

Hmmm. Doesn't sound like you meant the contents. Just the weapon... Digo just the pitcher. Lol.

No, I would have drunk the contents first then thrown the pitcher at Dominga.

Aha! I knew you needed the empty pitcher for something! :D

I was surprised, but not sickened. I thought it was a little out of character for Dominga; in the past, even if she hasn't know about Cande's actions, she's called her out on her intentions. I was a little shocked she didn't ask Cande what she expected to happen when this came out, even if it was done gently and/or with head stroking on the mild and and disgust on the other. After all, when Cande first came out the lie, Dom said right away it was a bunch of trash. Poor character continuation on the writers part, imo.

Hey, I'm at the table too. The word "my...whatever" in that "poor you" tone about made me switch channels. She could have been, "ok, you're hurting, sorry, but you brought this on yourself".

Parents or parental figures in this TN are NOT painted in a positive light. Either they are the worst and/controlling, or they coddle. Love Irma, but let's face it, she was a coddler queen with Lardo and Mari. Uriel turned a blind eye until it was too late. Dominga with Cande drives me a bit batty, and I hate the guff she takes from Cande. At least she and Mel were good to Cris, but they can't be called the parents, more like the grandparents. And grandparents, when not raising the child, can spoil them and just love them. Same two people and they kind of blew it how they handled Lola's parentage.

One thing to support those you raise or love, but there is such a thing as tough love too. The TN is like one big PSA on how NOT to parent. Ren's dad comes close to being a fairly decent dad, even if he did tread off the path with Roberta ( or tried), but he's too minor to really consider.

Daisynjay

Hey you guys. Aren't Cande, Sev, and Val planning something with the understanding that Cris doesn't yet know that he and Aldonza are not siblings? But we know that Cris knows the news now, but they don't know that he knows, and they don't know that he's back home. I hope he catches them in another lie. Then I can add it to my list of everything Cris will learn about and have to cope with in regards to his horrible parents.

It looks like people in this TN are better with those that aren't their kids, probably because you (usually) have an easier time being straight with them. Dom and Mel were pretty great grandparents to Cris, while overprotecting Lola. Aside from last night, Dom was a pretty good mom figure to Cande. At least, she was the one to point out her craziness, even if it didn't make a difference. Irma's tried to help Lola be objective while believing too much in Mari. Adelina's been a fairly good figure. It's not clear to me that she's made Aldonza into a spoiled brat (though her dealings with Cris and Ren speak to something being off). They've all got their faults. Evn loving, delivious looking Joaquin is ahving an affair and fighting with his ex in front of his kid, even if he'd rather not be.

Maybe PJ is the only "Father" we can all look to?

Cathyx - lol, yep, they don't know that Cris knows what they know. What they really don't know is that Cris is supposed to wait a year to remarry anyone. I can't wait to see Val's face when he tells her that :)

Wait, what? Why would he have to wait a year?

Please hold a seat for me at the table with a cool libation.

Diana

Sorry Diana, I drank the first pitcher all by myself. I'll order another for everyone else. In fact, I'll order one for everyone, we're going to need it when Val drops the pregnancy bomb.

We're gonna be nice and "libated" when it hits the fan.

Er... maybe we should put away the darts.

Golly, you did get it up quick and I flat ass missed your recap today till now, dodo. Thanks you much Kat.

"Cande whines that Jeronimo hit her where it hurts most…in other people's opinions"

"Aldonza chirps on happily"

Damn tootin sister Silvia, I'd hire you in a minute and if I had a son, would go Cande on him trying to hook ya'll up.

Oh, Humberto, I cannot help but a little crush on ya....naw, take that back, that would be cheating on PJ. HeMan!

Cathyx- I believe they have to wait a year so that we can see Val's head explode (yay!), but I suspect there's an actual legal basis for it. There are actual some remarriage waiting periods in the US too, six months in some places.

I'm just glad it's there to be a thorn in her side :D

And didn't Renato already say that the full divorce process will take 2-3 months. Val's definitely going to be showing by then. She's delusional thinking that, even if she manages to convince Cris to marry her, she'll be walking down the aisle looking slim and trim and can hide the fact that it's a shotgun wedding from the town gossips.

Diva, greatly appreciated your account of the assorted stuff hitting the fan. The padre did a super job of sharing "da truth" with the entire community.

Let's hope Chris and Eman can get their lives back on track while they're out of town.

Gracias tofie and La Paloma!

Not that a lot of other great stuff hasn't been said, but my mind is on Daisynjay and HellaShelle's comments about parents...it seems like it's so easy and there are so many different ways to screw up as a parent, especially when one's parenting style doesn't mesh well with the child's personality, and way easier to be the aunt/uncle/godparent/grandparent/friend/mentor. Maybe that's not an absolute, but that's what it seems like to me, in a general sense. So I'm totally happy to be Auntie or Tia Kat and leave the parenting to my siblings and friends.

And also...I've never had a watermelon margarita, but now I want one!

I am later to the party, but I wanted to thank you for the recap, Kat.

It looks as though Tomas might be turning over a new leaf under padre's good influence. He was never a really bad guy and always had a sense of humor. Pru will be devastated if she loses her lovebunny to Lulu.

And Super Padre...go, go, go.

That meeting between Severed and Vile was creepy. Vile has needs , and Severed is a pig, so I think that we can tell where this might be headed especially now that Val has moved in and Cris has moved out. ....may I just say..bbbllleeeccchh.

Gracias, Susanlynn, and I get a nasty vibe off her living just down the hall from him now. We will say bbbllleeeccchhh together!

P.S. Am I standing in the right line for a watermelon margarita ? Sounds yummy and refreshing.

Thanx recappers for the wonderful recap, i hope i get time to read the rest. I really wish that lizard (Valeria) doesn't get in the way of Cristobal and Aldonza's happiness.

Cool job recappers! Keep it up!!!
