La Sombra del Pasado, Capitulo 81: People are losing their breakfasts, their youth, their minds, their lovers, their shirts and who knows what else!

RECAP BY HELLASHELLE
If you saw it, a taste: Aldie’s not mad about the hair thievery. She sneaks in to see Cris while he’s knocked out. PJ wants to steal a sample of Sev’s blood and forge his signature to do another DNA test! Tomas searches for Pru. When they find each other, Pru tells the truth about the lies she weaved, and Tomas weaves a lie to cover the truth of where he was. Mel struggles with guilt over Cris’s accident and fear of aging. Val struggles with morning sickness. S/V tries to get a hold of Sev. Lola and Eman kiss again, in a big way. Hum tells Sev that Cris might lose his leg!

If you missed it, a bigger bite:After Emmanuel admits that he and Cris are creepy creepsters, Aldonza gives him a huge hug and kiss on the cheek and thanks him. Then she smacks his shoulder and tells him never to do something like that again! It was in no way a good thing, but…she repeats the hug, kiss and thanks again. She doesn’t want to lose trust between them. He and C are some crooked shysters. Wonderful, but crooked shysters. PJ comes in to tell them they can donate blood now.

Teresa and her husband try to wake Pru up. She’s got a weak pulse and won’t fully come to. They want to call Hum, but she revives enough to slur a no.

Sev and Cande fight over PJ. Sev doesn’t want him meddling in their lives or around his son. If Cande wants divine reassurance, she can get her butt to church. Cande says fine, but tone down the scandal. Instead, Sev takes it up a notch because the person they’re operating on is HIS SON AND HE’LL YELL IF HE WANTS TO!!! Cande asks him if he hasn’t thought that maybe this is God’s punishment. Sev scoffs that he doesn’t believe in God or his divine justice. Cande tells him to shut up. Val looks on from the couch like maybe these crazy people are not the best potential in-laws.

Adelina asks why Lola asked Pato to get back together if she really loves Emmanuel. Lola admits she just wants someone to love her. Adelina says she can’t force love. The right guy will come along…just like with her. She shares what’s up with her and Joaquin (poor thing. She must’ve been dying to share this kind of girl talk for, like, 20 years). Lola updates Adelina on her mom situation. Adelina tells her to resolve it if she feels she must, but to let her grandparents know what’s up.

A drunken Tomas stumbles through the hotel room, shushing the imaginary friend that appears to be making way too much noise. He looks for, but doesn’t find, Pru.

Melesio’s guilt has weighed him down to the couch. What if Cris dies?! Dominga admonishes him:¡La boca se te haga chicharrón! (=May your mouth turn to fried pig skins! (rather than what you say come to pass). She asks him to take his pills, but he bursts out that he’s not sick! He’s just old…and scared. He fights back tears and slowly deflates as he says he’s scared that soon he’ll be too old to work and then he’ll just be useless.

Tomás stops a cleaning lady. He’s looking for a woman. Oh yeah? Well, the cleaning lady’s ready to be that woman…Tomas stops her and says he’s looking for a lady that had a few drinks in his room…did anyone fall off a balcony or anything? Of course not! The cleaning lady assures him. She goes on her way and he wonders what happened to Pru.

Swell, Pru’s in a clinic. Teresa tells the doctor that Pru’s her best friend (say what?) and she’s not acting normal. The doc says she’s had an overdose of pills. They’ve got to contact the authorities and her family.

Tomas continues to look for Pru and almost gets beat up for a second.

Humberto comes out of surgery, sweating like he’s been running a marathon. Sev and Cande pounce immediately. How’s Cris? Is he okay? The surgery was a success, right? All Hum will say is that they have to wait and see. They should go get rest; Val too. Cande’s obviously not going anywhere until she knows Cris is all right and Sev wants to see him now! Hum can’t deny him that right! Hum snaps back that no ones denying him anything (no one ever does…), but it’s best if they wait. Cris is still under anesthesia and it’ll be a while before he wakes up. He takes Sev and Cande back to the recovery room. Val hangs back. She leans on a pillar, looking sick to her stomach and maybe in some pain. A male doctor/nurse notices her, but she straightens up a little.

Hum opens the door. Cris is unconscious. His right leg, bent at the knee for some reason, peeks out from under the sheet, the thigh bandaged. Cande covers her mouth as she scans him. Sev has stopped in the doorway and looks at his son, lying helpless before him. He closes his eyes, and opens them again as though something will change. Abruptly, he turns and leaves. Humberto comforts the crying Cande, telling her to have faith. Cande hopes that God hears their prayers.

Halfway down the hall, Sev doesn’t have faith to give him solace. He leans back against a wall and sobs with wet eyes.

PJ and Aldonza have just given blood (which we can tell because they refuse to let go of their elbows or straighten their forearms). PJ tells Aldie that Cris is out of surgery. She wants to see him, but PJ thinks they should wait until Cris has recovered a little and can back up her right to do so. He doesn’t think it’s worth raising a shitfest with Cande yet. Aldie agrees. Meanwhile, he found out from the nurse that Sev also gave blood. Apparently he can’t donate because he’s had transfusions in the past, but they took a sample anyway. If they can get their hands on it, they can do the DNA test! Aldie tells him about Cris’s hair test, but PJ thinks they should still get Sev’s blood, just in case there’s any further doubt. Hum overhears the last part and steps in. They can’t! It’s illegal and anyway, they would need a doctor’s order and Sev’s signed permission. They ask for his help, but he refuses. PJ follows Hum down the hallway and tells him he has to help them, otherwise PJ will talk, even if he loses his collar. Hum can’t believe the priest is blackmailing him! PJ doesn’t like doing it, but he has no choice. He might not be able to help the Sev/Rob baby, but he’ll defend his niece, whatever the cost! Well Hum’s not about to poner la soga al cuello(=put the rope around his neck; stick his neck out). The best he can do is to not mention any of this to anyone.

Emmanuel tells the front desk nurse that a lady fainted outside so that Aldonza can slip into the recovery rooms.

Tomás continues his search. A bellhop tells him some lady got taken to the clinic for an overdose…and she died. Tomás sits down heavily, horrified.

Aldonza finds Cris’s room. For some reason, instead of the Mijares theme, a much more dramatic song accompanies her. “So you snuck into my room in the middle of the night to steal a lock of my hair, huh? Silly man…” She sits next him, caresses his face and tells him not to leave her now. Not now when they’re close to the truth. He better not dare die, or she’ll die with him…She seals it with a kiss. She swears that after all they’ve been through, she loves him with all of her soul and he’ll be in her thoughts and prayers. The alternative tema speaks of black shadows following the singer as Aldonza slips out of the room. The minute the door closes, Cris slips into consciousness. He touches his lips. “Aldonza…?”

The next morning, Cris is still feeling his lips for that kiss when a nurse lets Cande into the room for a quick visit. She asks how he is, but he just asks for Aldonza. Cande says she doesn’t know where Aldie is, but she hasn’t been here; Sev hasn’t allowed it. No, Cris says. She was here just a minute ago. And last night… Cande repeats that she’s the only one who’s been in there and she’ll stay by his side because despite their differences, she and his father love him. Cris falls asleep again as she talking and she wonders why he can’t get that damn woman out of his heart!

At Las Animas, Mel meets Sev outside the front door, nervously handling his hat. Mel feels awful for what happened. Can he visit Cris? Sev can barely contain his angry disbelief. Mel should just thank God that Cris is alive, because otherwise, Mel would be dead right now. Instead of asking him foolishness, he better get to work because the only reason Sev hasn’t thrown him out is because Cris wants him there. He’d better step it up because there’s no room for useless old men on the ranch. Mel fights back tears.

Back at the resort, a stunned Tomás sits heavily on the bed. He’s breathing in the scent from Pru’s pillow when she walks out of the bathroom. She’s alive! He spins a tale about looking for a doctor because she passed out so deeply last night and when he got back she was gone! She explains about Teresa and says she told them that she was in San Miguel for a rehab program and they couldn’t tell Hum because he’d divorce her is he knew about her addiction…which she made up, she snaps indignantly when Tomás offers his sympathy for her struggle. They kiss (extensively) and make up.

Lola tells Dominga that her mother’s back in town. Dom tells her that whatever she decides to do about it, Dom and Mel will respect her decision. Lola goes out to see Mel, who is in the stables getting the workers to donate. Lola promises to donate twice as much blood as the rest and to say hi to Cris for him.

S/V comes out of the bathroom (looks like morning sickness has set it). She calls Las Animas. Dom recognizes her voice and tells her she has no shame, calling the house, knowing Sev’s wife lives there. S/V says Sev’s not answering his cell. Dom doesn’t care, but S/V shouldn’t call the house again!

Aldonza and PJ discuss the DNA test. Aldonza doesn’t understand why Hum suddenly decided to help. PJ says Hum won’t go that far, but it’s in his best interest not to say anything about it either. Aldie points out that it’s a moot point without Sev’s signature. PJ suggests they forge it?! (Patio Peeps: Who is this law-breaking renegade?!) Aldie asks if it’s worth it; they’ll have the hair results in a few days anyway, and how would they even get Sev’s signature to copy it. PJ knows a way (Hmmm. Either he suspects the Doom Squad of fowl play or suspects Cris doesn’t know the basics about getting a hair sample).

Val’s sipping water in her room, looking totally nauseated. Hum knocks and she tells him to come in, carefully laying on the bed with her phone so that she looks like her normal self. Hum immediately asks if she’s ok; she looks pale. She says the hospital depresses her. She’ll get ready to go back in a minute. Hum tells her not to bother. He ordered Cris to have no visitors except for his parents. Val argues that she’s not an ordinary visitor, but Hum says the rule stands for her too.

Aldie’s filling Adelina in on the DNA blood sample/signature forging plan. Adelina’s just as shocked as I am, but Aldie says she wants to be certain once and for all. If Cris is her brother, she’ll forget about him forever. And if he’s not? Adelina asks. Because she said the same thing would hold true either way because of his night with Val. Well, now Aldie’s not sure about that. Adelina asks if Eman donated blood. Aldonza says he couldn’t and he was upset because he couldn’t help Cris, but he did help Aldie sneak in to Cris’s room. She tells Adelina about Cris and Eman’s hair gathering adventure.

Dom tells Sev that S/V called. He tells her to mind her business and not mention the call to Cande.

Lola comes home after donating because she felt weak. She and Aldonza tease Adelina about taking food to the workers as an excuse to see Joaquin. (I see no basket, so I’m not sure how that’s suppose to work…)

Cande’s still with Cris. She tells him he’s her pride and always will be. Sev comes in to check on him, cursing Mel as he does. Cris tells him not to blame Mel. He starts explaining what happened, but both parents tell him not to strain himself worrying about it. They share a look that only parents of a sick child can share.

Lola wakes up from a nap and asks Tio Camilo (guess he really is good friends with Mel) where Eman is. He’s with El Solitario. Lola thanks him casually and then races over to the stables. She spies on the HOT HOTTIE McHOTNESS of shirtless Emmanuel giving the horse a bath. Mmm, that boy without a shirt…Anyway, Eman spots her and tries to cool her down by spraying her with the water. Of course, they end up laughing and rolling on the grass…and kissing!

Hum is checking Cris’s leg. Cris says he doesn’t feel anything. Cande and Sev look on worriedly. Hum says he’s going to order a medicine. Sev follows him out and demands the truth; he knows something’s wrong. Hum says Cris barely has a pulse in his leg. It doesn’t look like the artery repair is taking. What does that mean? Sev demands. If it doesn’t take…Cris could lose his leg!

I can't wait to read this!! I freaking love your "long" and "short" format.

Thank you for the recap, hellashelle!

Ooh, Hellashelle, I was all ready for bed and then saw your recap. I knew it would be good and couldn't resist. I was not disappointed.

That scene with Eman was hot, hot, hot. That was not the typically shy Eman. He was in total control of that situation and knew his hotness was affecting Lola (every bit Roberta's child). Yeah, sure. She was concerned about the wasted water. Uh huh.

I'll be back in the morning to praise individual lines. The new song is sung by Lissett (sp?), who plays Adelina. I think it's called Junto a Ti (which I find funny because Alex Sirvent--Eman--sang a song called Junto a ti for Abismo de pasion.)

Lola and Eman and water fight. What was that about romance being dead?

I really enjoyed that lovely song "Hoy Junto A Ti" played as Aldonza sneaked into Chris' hospital room for a visit. I was blown away to find that Lisset was the singer!

Clarification- hot, flirty Eman was every bit Rob's child in that scene.

And Padre, whoa! Theft and forgery, all to make sure the truth comes out. He's my kind of priest.

Man, just as I include my comment, Sara comes up with a similar thought. Anyway, I just downloaded the songs from iTunes.

Great minds, Gobluefan! Glad to know it's on iTunes. I really like the song.

Great work, Hellashelle!

I am really concerned about the DNA testing situation. There is a wrong hair sample out there so I hope the Padre can do something. At the very least he should volunteer to be tested to demonstrate his relationship to Aldonza, which could cause someone's eyebrows to go up when and if that wrong hair sample causes an issue.

This latest development with Cris' operation should not come to anything.... except getting rid of Valeria, who would never marry him if he ended up losing the leg.

The other couple finding Pru will have repercussions.

Hellashelle, very clever indeed!

"If you saw it, a taste, if you missed it, a bigger bite"

Never, ever, ever thought I would say this but I wish I was Lola!

Thank you, hellashelle, for that detailed recap.

How do I hate Severed..let me count the ways,,,in addition to all his other sins, his treatment of loyal Mel is despicable and hard to watch. I cannot wait to see the anvil that the writers are forging for him. He keeps yelling that Cris is his son. Is he ? That might be the cruelest blow to Severed since Cris seems to be the only living thing that he seems to care about. What a stonecold demon.

Morning all!

Thank you for the encouragement. And for putting up with my grammar ("fowl" play? Yeah, that should be "foul," sorry).

I meant to add the Lisset notice, but I zonked out as soon about two minutes after I emailed the recap., so thanks to Sara for filling in the blanks. I'm glad they went with the Mijares theme, but Lisset's voice is awesome!

As for the show: WHOA! PJ, what is happening to you?! I mean it's cool (actually, it's kinda sexy), but you are a priest, remember? Theft, forgery, blackmail?!

Eman and Lola: They're beautiful. They're very cute together. They come off like a couple of adorable high schoolers...but they're being jerks to Mari and Pato. Less Pato, because he's smart enough to know what's what, but Eman, Mari thinks you're engaged to be married. Then you move in with your ex and now your spraying her with water (in a drought) and rolling your beautiful, half-naked body, that is so mmm...wait, what was I saying? Right: bad, bad Eman!

Alexis Ayala is frickin' awesome. He really conveys the whole range of emotion, and even if I still want Sev to rot, he definitely showed that he can and does love his son. I think the scene where he and Cande see Cris and then he goes into the hallway was the one most powerful of the night.

Kudos also to Manuel "Flaco" Ibáñez who plays Melesio. I almost cried with him last night when he spoke of getting old and how scared he was that he'd be useless. And then when Sev so coldly dismissed him...Pobrecito! I love Mel.

Good morning, Hellashelle. Thank you so much for this recap. Very detailed and entertaining.

Wow. PJ willing to dip into forgery etc. to get the truth out about Aldonza, and at least browbeating, if not blackmailing, Hum to get the job done!

Okay, the Journal of Telenovela Medicine rears its ugly head again. When Hum couldn't feel a pulse in Cris's foot, that implies that it was indeed the Femoral Artery (and not one of its offshoots) that was damaged, and if that was the case, he should have exsanguinated before they got him to the hospital. However, feeling for a pedal pulse is exactly the right thing to do after arterial repair. So what now? Air lift Cris to DF for revision surgery by an expert?

When Sev and Cande were screaming at each other in the waiting room, the expression on Val's face was priceless. It was like, "Is this what Christmas dinner will be like after Cris and I are married?"

Sev's treatment of Mel was beneath contempt, and is a window into his dark soul.

So, was Adelina giving Lola advice on romance after her total life experience of one kiss? Seems like this advice would be as valuable as that from a Jr. High classmate.

Eman and Lola wearing a white blouse, and a hose. Uh oh.

David

David- Well, I guess that saying that all we need to know we learned in kindergarden applies. All Adelina was really telling Lola is that she needed to be truthful and treat Pato with respect. No need to have been in a relationship herself to see that Lola was using Pato to fill a place until she got Eman back.

Vivi, thank you for correcting me. I did not get the entire meaning of the conversation between Adelina and Lola. You are right. It doesn't take a lifetime of romantic experience to tell someone to treat someone else with fairness and respect.

David

Dr. David! I love the wide range of expertise we've got out here! Dr. David, Historian Vivi, Director Diva! Yeah, the show's skirting reality with vagueness. Hum says he can "barely" feel a pulse, no one says exactly which artery is or isn't damaged, there were "complications" during surgery...

I don't fault Adelina. Her advice isn't bad. She should be more direct, instead of pie-in-the-sky about it. Who knows if Lola's prince will come (though he's already got the white horse, so...), but she shouldn't keep playing Pato. If she wants to give it a go with Pato, she should, but not just to make E jealous or to pass the time. He's all in; she should at least try to be as well.

I agree with the comments yesterday. Someone should be stepping in to tell Sev and Cande to take their screamfest somewhere else. All of the people on staff are involved in trying to save their precious baby boy and they need to freaking concentrate!

Thank you, Hella! LOVE your format and, well, just the whole thing! Padre doesn't shock me at all! How refreshing! He'll leave the Priesthood before he sees his niece destroyed! Let him continue to be the voice or reason and proaction which will be needed IF the baby bomb is exploded. I agree that Vile is NOT signing up for a "disabled" Cris and crazy in laws. That look in the waiting room was telling. It's like she really saw them for the first time. It's right after that that she got sick! Can't wait for more comments after work.

Thanks again, Hellashelle!

I have to follow Vivi's thinking on this. Val is pregnant with no other men available. She hasn't finished any higher level schooling. I assume she has no job skills. A possibly one-legged Cris might be her best option. He still has money and the family name.

The realization of her only option being the crazy people in front of her may be what made her sick.

Hellashelle - Gobluefan also gave us the music info. She and I were commenting at the same time.

Hellashelle, thank you for the great recap.

Sev should be dead! The nerve of that man. He can stand there and tell Mel that there is no use for an old and useless man on the ranch. And this coming from the man that cannot even cut his own food and no telling what else!

Rosemary Primera

But what if Cristobal turns out to not be Satanic Sev's son? Who, therefore, would be his father?

We know it can't be Raimundo or Jeronimo. We have no evidence that Candela ever knew Renato's father; there are no candidates in sight at the moment. Could there be a flashback coming where we see that she got knocked up in college and her parents married her off to Sev so fast that he truly believes that Cristobal is his?

Hellashelle, I was riveted by your outstanding recap. You covered all the action with excellent insight including "Val looks on from the couch like maybe these crazy people are not the best potential in-laws" and "(poor thing. She must’ve been dying to share this kind of girl talk for, like, 20 years)". Excellent.

I must admit, for the very first time in this entire novela, I felt badly for Cande, bereft by Cris' side. However, pity only goes so far. "Sev doesn’t have faith to give him solace" indeed. He has no soul and therefore not a scintilla of sympathy did he garner from me.

"Can he visit Cris?" Oh Mel. Do you still not realize you are working for the devil? Hellashelle, ITA that he and Alexis were excellent last night.

"Patio Peeps: Who is this law-breaking renegade?!)". I'm with Lila and Vivi - GO PADRE! And, I have to remember he still doesn't know Sev raped Aldonza. I do shudder to think what he will do when he finds out.

Vivi "his hotness was affecting Lola" - exactly! Eman was beyond hawt! tofie, lol. I would not have minded being Lola. Not for a second.

Thanks for the info on Lisset Sara and Gobluefan. I thought the song was lovely.

It's beyond comprehension that no other surgeon was available to operate on Cris. Hopefully the writers had the same insight as our David: "Air lift Cris to DF for revision surgery by an expert". And there you have it.

I fear for Simoneta. I hope she and Lola reconcile soon. Otherwise, Lola will regret it the rest of her life.

Diana

I would be really annoyed if it turns out Sev is not Cris' father. I guess it could go that way and it would be a huge twist and surprise. But man that would be crappy writing. They've presented us with a Cande who is so uptight it's difficult to imagine her with Sev, much less a second man.

And maybe they would give us that to help us get over Aldonza being with Cris. We've discussed how hard it must be to be with your rapist's son (though it was also mentioned that if she were healthy she could separate the two.)

As much as it comes up, I'm now half expecting Cris not to be the son of Sev. But I'll be pissed. I'll feel duped. What was the Agatha Christie mystery that brought in the never heard of character at the final reveal?

Yep, UA, why else have Severiano and Cris's hair analyzed and PJ willing to derobe over a blood test, unless PJ also plans to sneak Emanuel in there too along with Aldonza. Could Cande really have that kind of past and Dominga not have an inkling?

Emanuel - slip and slide for two

PJ - all in sin

Val - and I thought mom was nuts

Pru - feel these, feel dead to you?

Aldonza - he must love me, he let me kiss him

Adelina - forget talking to these kids and a priest, I'll call a plumber to find out how this thing works

Mel - well I've shot horses cause they go lame

Cris - bastards son?

HELLASHELLE--A big Thank you for the great sparkling recap! Wow, it was a fun episode, glad they are using Pru and Tomas for some "comic relief", those two are the perfect foil for each other.

The scene with Eman washing El Solitario--oh mama! The water, the bare chested horse, the shirtless Eman... And I swear Eman kissed that horse's tail right before he turned around and spoke to Lola. He did! (How could Eman just let Solitario wander off while he was kissing Lola. Dude!)

Still smiling,
J in Oregon

There are just enough episodes left to do something like that, but I agree that would be bad writing. It would have been alright if the writers had planned this by having had Candela and Jeronimo dating while they were in college, but this isn't what happened. Too late to backpedal on that.

As for Candela being uptight, I think that happened the night Sev lost his arm... which she still doesn't know the whole truth about. I think she probably had good sex with him before that and her Ice Queen demeanor resulted from having that rug pulled out from under her by the town slut. She probably loved him before that and had no reason to think he didn't love her.

Note that she seems to have no objection to Valeria using sex to entrap Cristobal. Now, that's sick.

We have already seen that a slutty woman can still have a moral daughter. This equally applies to the male of the species, as we have seen in other novelas. If Cristobal was only raised by Sev and not sired, that doesn't take away his fatherhood. Although if by some miracle Sev escapes the Reaper at the end, I believe Cristobal will disown him.

This was beyond awesome Hellashelle. Thanks so much!

And thanks for the clarification Dr. David. Honestly, I would have hoped that the protocol would STILL have been to bring in an expert even after the initial surgery. if they have the money they seem to portray they do, I agree, air lift to the big city then. Leaving Hum in charge boggles the mind.

A moment to thank the TN gods: a shirtless E-man, a beautiful white stallion, water...rewind and sigh. Lot of hyper-ventilating at the Cougar Table last night.

Any ounce of pity out there for Sev...anyone? Yeah, didn't think so. And I'm sure not a shred of any acceptance that his son may be suffering as events are unfolding because of his stupidity. Also, why the hell isn't there more help on that ranch. The treatment of Mel by Sev is despicable.

So how soon before Hum guesses what's up with said daughter? Notice how Ade is all dolled up now, makeup, hair much better and styled, clothes not quite so frumpy? Ah, love.

Daisynjay

Sever has been stubborn about getting additional help with the horses since Eman left because he doesn't want to admit just how essential Eman was to his horse business. Spite, spite, spite. Just like his order to kill Solitario just because Eman wanted to buy him and loves him.

tofie - very true about Dominga. Another reason to be pissed if they decide Cris is not Sev's. Usually by now there's some hint. Again I say if they choose to go that route I will be annoyed. It would be a cheap trick.

Weeks and weeks ago someone said something about the music in this. I've been more aware of it ever since. It really is good. I like that they are using instrumental more than music with lyrics. The lyric music hasn't been over done.

Daisynjay - I was hyperventilating too. Whoa mama. That's what I want to see. Hot chemistry and romance.

I'll pay closer attention to the new Adelina too.

Sorry. Hopefully the last comment bomb.

I love this title Hellashelle. You have a knack for titles. I may have to start asking you to write my titles (with trademarked credit of course.)

I don't know if I remember or imagined this but it seems that years ago there was a news story about a man whose daughter was having a relationship with a guy whom he disapproved of. He ordered her to kill her dog as punishment and she committed suicide instead.

I just googled this and apparently there was a similar case last year.

You don't want to know what other evil came up in the search results.

I am kind of enjoying Vile having morning sickness. Does that make me a bad person ?

I guess nobody bothered to call Mama Pru at her ''spiritual retreat''..snicker...to let her know about Cris's accident. Such lovely people. I think that Pru is in for dome public humiliation once that couple gets back to SL. Get those stones ready for throwing, townfolk. Pru, you have been living in a glass house...your affair and your unwed daughter are surely going to be revealed soon.

I am going to be watching with great interest to see how Candy and Severed will be rewarded for their selfishness and arrogance. Candy has not killed anyone , but she has been Severed's supporter. Does she really have no idea that he has raped and murdered ? Deep down , she must suspect that he is capable of such violence. She just refuses to see. They have both led sad, worthless lives which is , perhaps, the worst anvil anyone can receive. As you sow, so shall you reap..with or without a mule and a handplow.

UrbanWe know it can't be Raimundo or Jeronimo. We have no evidence that Candela ever knew Renato's father; there are no candidates in sight at the moment.

Urban made me think of the candy house. I haven't followed that story closely so this is a question more than a theory. Could the mystery man and the candy house tie in to Cande somehow? Some man put a ring in the house for his true love or something. Could Cande be connected? At work. Can't look it up. If it's totally lame I bow out graciously. If somehow the Candy Man turns out to be Cande's mystery boinker, and Cris's father, I hearby claim it, despite the ragged nature of my supposition!

Excellent recap Hellashelle!!
Go Padre! Go Padre! Go Padre!

Interesting theory. Until somebody opens that thing and finds the ring we think is in it we won't know.

I don't think it really matters, though. Cristobal could be a male version of Aldonza, a good child coming from a bad parent. If this is the case then Sev either would have to know, Cristobal could have been born a week later than predicted originally, or Candela lied about her dates and said he was premature. I'm willing to bet -- based on this theory -- that the writers are delaying the DNA test until they make up their minds.

The interesting possible result that Sev isn't the sire of Cristobal leads to this question: How will he feel about this? How will he treat Cristobal after such a revelation?

As el gringo says, Must-See TV.

"... With or without a plow..."

You are a hoot, Susanlynn! And you know you're right. This has been a show where the villains have actually sort of suffered all along.

Gracias, HellaShelle! And you got this done quickly, too! As others have mentioned, I also like the long and short versions.

I had a sad for Melesio feeling old and useless. And it's so not true! He's got a lifetime of knowledge and experience and he practically runs the place. He doesn't need to be forced to work himself to death or pushed out, he needs a frickin' assistant! If Sev had any business sense at all, he'd have Mel start training his replacement, but keep him on until he wants to retire.

I wouldn't say I felt sorry for Sev, exactly, for being so obviously distraught. For one thing, I have no way of knowing if all his tears are about Cris himself, as a person vs. Cris his One Legitimate Heir. I do like that there are different facets to him. Most of them are about him being evil, but he does have his soft spots. It doesn't mean he's not evil, just evil and human instead of evil and cardboard.

I love PJ going rogue! Instead of Sev's fake confession shutting him up, it's just pissing him off further. Go Justiciero Divino!

Hel-lo, horny teenagers? We've got a burst dam and a municipal water shortage! Take that action to the lake if you need to cool off those hormones!

Just popping in because I don't watch this show but I turned to the channel for Amores Con Trampas a bit early and saw the most beautiful sight of a shirtless man washing a horse. If that guy is shirtless every episode, I'll definitely start tuning in every night. Wow, just Wow.

...but isn't that just like horny teenagers..I raised two, taught a bunch, and was one.

Hahaha! Unfortunately, they haven't let him take his shirt off very often. Last night was just.... sigh.... Wonderful.

Well, I guess I didn't hit submit before I left the house because I don't see my last comment.

Anon11:53 - we wondered about that before, but Magda, Candy Shop owner, said the house was originally meant for her.

Sara - I think that was me about the music. I had hoped to discuss it further, but it got lost in whatever discussion we were having that day. I ADORE the soloist that sings the haunting melody that sometimes plays. No lyrics to distract, just vocalization. It's called "Tierno Aldonza" on the soundtrack (says youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NX3gzYiJVtQ). I think it's a perfect accompaniment to so many of the scenes. It's both innocent and almost mournful, exactly like Aldonza when she's vulnerable.

My apologies to Gobluefan! I should have thanked you as well for the info about Lisset's song.

Ah, youth! I suppose it's more responsible to waste the water than burn up the fields with all that heat!

Hot diggety, hellashelle! Thank you so much for the link. Music is a big deal to me. It can make or break a novela IMO. I'm rewatching TdA right now (don't judge) and I think it will always hold a special place in my heart because it was the first TN I recapped and I really love the incidental music. (But it is a Mejia production... So it's pretty much crap.)

Hellashelle - Thank you for the great recap! This is another episode I may not have time to watch but will have to FFWD--> thru to the Eman/Lola scene. ;-)

Sara - I caught TdA just now while eating lunch. Brought back memories, that's for sure. LOL

Great job on the recap, Hellashelle, thank you.

I bet when Chris fully recovers (because he will) and his leg is saved (because it will be), Candela will smugly believe that SHE saved him with her prayers. The delusional hypocrite will continue to think that those charity checks she writes really do buy her a special connection with God and not that it has anything to do with CHRIS.

SAra - I agree with you! Music can be so crucial to making a scene work for viewers. Sometimes when I'm thinking about a great scene, say, in the reality of my kitchen, I realize how hard it must be for the actors to convey all of that emotion without the lift of the strings, or the bass notes to inspire evil.

I was very happy to hear the new music on Sombra. Having watched most of my novelas from Televisa, I've gotten used to a lot of their incidental music and thought it could use an update years ago.

I like the way a lot of the music for this production reflects the characters. For example, Valeria's Theme (super short clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0KCi4BcEsE) seems like it's all synthesizers, which is perfect because she's so fake. Severiano's theme is ominous and anxiety provoking - definitely makes me feel like someone's after me and something bad is about to go down.

Just found a Lola and Eman music video (not fan made). Very cute! The song's kinda eh, but the shots of L & E make me wish they had been given a better love story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOaQ9tnsaL4

Hella and all, that's me at 11:53, I'm at work and not signed in. I still wonder if Cande is connected to the candy house mystery. I need to go back and watch that episode at some point.

Hellashelle---Totally love the recap. It was a great read.
Val looks on from the couch like maybe these crazy people are not the best potential in-laws.
Cris slips into consciousness. He touches his lips. "Aldonza...?"

I really don't see how Sever can blame Mel for Cris' accident. Mel passed out so how
can he be blamed for what happened to Cris? OK--Mel shouldn't have passed out right?

So you ladies wanted to be Lola last night. Funny but I had almost the same desire but mine was an opposite desire. For a brief moment I was E-man last night. Ok, I don't have the chest that he has but no matter, Lola likes gringos. We had fun.

David--- Is this what Christmas dinner will be like? Yes, Vile probably was thinking that very thought

This story just get better and better. There are so many ways that it could go. Is Sev really Cris' father. And much, much more. This really is must see tv.
the gringo

I'm going to sit with you at the music table, hellashelle. Those links are great.

Oh yes, doris! Lots of memories. I like watching the second time so I can fast forward. I feel like they're editing though. That's probably a good thing. Sweet William Levy in a kayak.

Hey Carvivlie-- nice to see you bop in!

No, unfortunately we don't get that site on a daily basis. That's why all the hyperventilating on the patio. I think with all the evil and grossness, they decided to throw us a bone. And we were more than happy to go play fetch for that one.

Have to say, and not sure anyone else thought this, but up until that current day, everyone was standing around with vapor forming from their cold breaths, with mittens and fur lined coats...and lo and behold, there's our E-man, all studly, no shirt and not a hint of being cold. Let's hope there is a long term heat wave.

Daisynjay

I've deleted your post, Steve. As usual you did not thank the recapper. Something you usually manage to do on other threads so I guess here you've just decided not to do it because you don't like someone telling you what to do.

Daisynjay---Yes cool fall weather scenes and warm summer day scenes that's true. A few episodes back there was a comment about setting bails of hay on fire with dry grass all around. I have noticed scenes where the hillsides were mostly brown. fall/winter? and in other scenes the surroundings were mostly green. spring/summer? Maybe this is/was a year round novela with scenes being shot at various times of
the year.

Daisynjay: I'll keep popping in to see if I get another glimpse! Hope for all of the patio peeps it happens again.

Do you think if Val shows hints of disgust at the possibility of Cris losing his leg around Cande, C might rethink her alliance?

Hella, I expect Cande to unconditionally support Cris. I wonder, though, even if Cris keeps his leg and heals if Cande will be suspicious of the baby bomb. Would Cande still go along with trapping him via sex if she knew it involved a baby that is NOT Cris's?

The center of town looks well manicured/watered and is always green year round. But we also see that much of the time it's foggy there and looks chilly, especially at night. Out in the countryside/pastures where Aldonza's lands are, you can see that lately it's all been brown (so likely being filmed during a dry and/or cold season) and it looks cold, also especially in the evenings.

I didn't answer the question. Yes, I think she would rethink her alliance. BUT, she is so HELL-bent on keeping him away from Aldonza, maybe she would try to force a one-legged Cris on Valeria. Of course, she doesn't know how strong-willed Vile is. Interesting question.

Don't think Cande would accept and be grandmother to a child not Cris's. She wants nothing to do with Emanuel, though he's Severiano's.

I kept wondering what Renato will say if Aldonza is on again with Cris. At some point both boys, Cris & Renato, should get off the merry go round just as Pato did with Lola.

There's no way Cris is actually losing his leg, it's just a matter of Val showing her true self before she finds that out. I think Cande will FREAK OUT on Val once she knows the truth. I mean the gal of her, trying to pass off low-class Lardo's baby as a Mendoza de Rivera?! Yeah, I don't see Cande forgiving that quickly.

Renato is on a roller coaster of his own making. He's the one who keeps thinking he has a hope each time Aldonza and Cris break up. If Al's words about not being interested in him "that way" haven't worked, you would have thought her stone cold lips when he kissed her would have. But nope. The boy is still delusional. And he will pout the next time Aldonza and Cris get back together, even though no one told him to get his hopes up.

So I hope Cande does the math and rejects Valeria in her "trap Cris" plan. Hopefully Vale herself will rethink her "trap Cris" plan in the light of the possibility of Cris losing his leg and seeing what demons Cris and Sev are.

I don't think Renato will EVER give up Aldonza. I think he'll let her yo yo him around. I don't see him being as classy and smart as Pato was with Lola. Renato is obsessed. Pato just like a cute girl he thought he had a chance with. Glad he dropped her when he saw she was a cook and a player!

I still don't think Aldonza is messing Ren around romantically (like Lola with Pato). She has not once said, "hey, let's date/give this a try", or "if Cris weren't in the picture I'd be into you." Nope. She has clearly said, "Cris is the love of my life and I can't get him out of my heart or my head, even if we are broken up." What else does he need to hear?

I don't know that I'd call Lola a crook and player in the traditional sense, but certainly unfair. Her immaturity is big factor in this relationship - or lack thereof - with Pato. You said Pato "just like[s] a cute girl he thought he had a chance with." Lola's similar in that for her Pato's just a cute guy that she can date casually. The difference is, he has serious intentions and she's just passing the time while hoping to get over E or hoping to get with E, and that's no bueno. She's not considering his feelings in all of this. She's not malicious or mean about it and she doesn't think Pato's an idiot, the way TN "players" have been portrayed before, but you're right, she was playing him.

Vivi - he shouldn't need to hear anything else, but he's not listening to begin with. All he sees is the girl he likes depending on him and a future world in which that dependence goes from friendship to romantic love. Poor sap. I really wish someone would come around to knock him off of his feet, but it looks more and more like the Dark Side predictors were right and he's slipping down that slope to CrazyTown.

No, Hella, cook and a player! Hee hee! I do think she is a cook!

Wait a minute. That looks like the word for someone who prepare food. How do you speel the word for coo coo, like a little crazy? That's what I mean!

:)

I think both Lola and Eman would be fine with spending time with Pato and Mari, dating them, kissing them, joking around with them, etc. They genuinely like them. But they don't make their hearts skip a beat the way Eman does for Lola, and Lola does for Eman. I wouldn't say they are playing Mari and Pato-- but, they just want to pass time with them, not marry them. Unfortunately for Mari and Pato, they see Eman and Lola as end game/keepers.

Kook.

*spell! Sheesh! I need a nap!

Silvia has tried to talk sense into Renato and he won't listen. If she can't get through to the guy, who can? The way Renato left it last (including the kiss), he is convinced when Aldonza is divorced, because this time she didn't say absolutely not and didn't resist the kiss, he's in. They did try to date but right after she graduated from university, on the first date, they walked in on Roberta and Renato's daddy. Shortly after, Roberta finds out about her cancer, kills herself and Aldonza runs to SL and sees Cris.

Thanks, Vivi, jeez, what was a thinking about? No wonder you thought I meant "crook", Hella, especially with my spelling so wobbly today!

Adelina was so cute with her "girl talk" that took all of 7 seconds to relay! I hope she and Jock are end game!

Thank you Hellashelle, I watched most in real time, and I read the rest with your recap.
It's funny how you guys always talk about abstract stuff that I also mention to my husband. This time it was what time of year is this show supposed to take place. They wear coats and sweaters, but we never see their breath when they talk. And some shots have 2 people wearing coats, and the third one wearing something summery.

To me, Renato is acting very much like a lot of people do with regards to being so in love with someone, they read too much into what the other one does and won't listen to anyone who disagrees with their assessment of the situation because they want that relationship to be a real relationship so much. She's just not that into you Ren.

Val will be giving birth to a 10 pound premie. And if her DOCTOR father is fooled by this, then I wouldn't let him treat any of my family members even for a paper cut.

Cathyx- I actually have seen cold breath coming from some of the actors in the scenes when everyone is bundled up, and feel bad for the poor 1 or 2 actors in the scene who aren't wearing a coat for whatever reason. That fog in town certainly looks damp and chilly.

Now that's an interesting difference. In American soaps, because they go on for years, we often get to see the change in seasons, different holidays etc. We don't usually see those in TNs. They're often seem to be set in some place with a year round mild-tropical temperature, which makes the wide variety of clothing all the stranger. (Although, I can suspend some of my disbelief: I've seen people where uggs year round and flip flops year round in my area.) Are these towns in the mountains? The plains? Desert climate? Unless it specifically has to do with the plot, no one seems to know, because everyone's dressed completely differently. I guess they usually skip the holidays and such because the TNs are shown around the world on widely different schedules?

Oops! I meant wear*.

Well Wikipedia says it was filmed in Zacatlán, rather than any of the actual cities of Santa Lucia in Mexico. To quote the site, Zacatlán "has a cool, damp climate most of the year. The climate is temperate with average annual temperatures varying between 12C (53.6 degrees Farenheit) and 18C (64.4 degrees Farenheit). Differences within the territory relate to rainfall with the driest areas are in the south and the wettest in the north.[1] However, there is rain year round, with fog present on most mornings and night, with very thick fog common."

Sounds like the Adelina's tights and Lola's boots and everyone's jeans and jackets make sense and Mari's short dresses are a little out there.

Ok, no more bombing.

Hellashelle - Thank you for the link to the Eman/Lola video. That was really sweet. Every time I saw that singer sitting on the tree roots in the dirt, in those white pants, my Brooklyn/Queens/NYC roots/ancestry kept screaming "what is she thinking?" LOL That girl had some serious false eyelashes! but still a sweet video.
:-)

I have no simpathy for dev short for devil (sev) and cande. As for parents being afraid for their child I understand completely. But these two, they have caused so much pain for so many people, including the child they have a strange way of showing love to. even though they have questioned "is God punishing us?"they still haven't had a mind to change any of the damage that they've done. They haven't changed at all, and when this is all over, they're going to go right back to being nasty nasty evil people. As if they've ever stopped.

Hellashelle- Ooh. Thanks for looking up the weather of the area this was filmed in. The clothes totally make sense. And Mari's Uggs, short jacket, and denim mini skirts looks just like what I see some of the college girls here in DC wear in the winter. I'm always baffled.

Hellashelle- That was an adorable video. My only quibble is that 1) Solitario should have been one of the horses, and 2) Eman should have appeared shirtless at least once, but I guess they kept things G rated.

Vivi I wondered about that weather to. Joaquim and Adelina were wareing coats, I thought, it's cold where they are. So it was winter when they shot this show, or getting wintery like. Some girls don't like to cover up their bodies for any reason. they love their bodies and they're hoping others will too.

Nina-I love my body (well, most of the time), but I get cold so easily that if it's under 75, I'm usually covered head to toe! Sleeveless is for mid 80s and above. In Santa Lucia/Zacatlán weather, I'd definitely be in a coat all day :)
