La Sombra Del Pasado #80 06/08/2015

Patio Peeps don't hate me please, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to post a recap, I got home late last night from work and came in at 8 this morning so I don't know where I'll find the time, if someone wants to post bullet points in the comments that would be great!

Previous: Episode 79
Next: Episode 81

Give me a sec...

No where near comprehensive. The plot points only. Patio Peeps Activate! We'll need fill in.

Cris takes a fence lance to the inner thigh. What artery is there? The femoral? He is rushed to the clinic. Cande and Sev are informed. They rush to the clinic. Dom calls Hum's office. Blanquita will inform the Doc. Cande informs Valeria.

Aldonza and Joaquin have workers. She's eager to get started. Adelina will watch Ray. She also tells Joaquin she's going to take a chance on love.

Aldonza is informed of Cris injury. She rushes to the hospital. Emanuel goes with her.

Sev blames Mel for Cris injury. Hum informs them that Cris' injury is serious. They need a vascular surgeon. There isn't one in SL. Sev and Cande beg Hum to save their son. Sev offers to hand over El Santuario.

Lola asks Pato if they can get back together. He refuses.

Renato and Silvia had a scene. I didn't pay attention. She's still upset he's hung up on Aldonza. He had some lines, too.

Silvia and Pato end up commiserating over ice cream. It looked like Neapolitan flavor. She calls him out for waiting for Lola. He calls her out for doing the same with Renato.

Tomas runs into his bikini bunnies. They ask him to meet them at the club. He drugs Pru and sneaks out. She wakes up and stumbles out of the room. Two SL citizens happen to be vacationing at the same hotel. They see her and try to get to the bottom of things.

Adelina tells Padre J about Cris' injury and Aldonza being at the hospital.

Aldonza goes to the hospital. She gets yelled at for her trouble. She and Emanuel go to the church. Emanuel tells Aldonza about Cris sneaking in to her room and the on the DL DNA test.

Sara- Perfect! Thank you! Just what we need to get the conversation started.

Eli- No worries. Get some rest.

Only other plot point I'd add is that Renato told Silvia that he and Aldonza kissed (more like he kissed an unresponsive Aldonza) and they have a real shot at a relationship. That's what sent Silvia into an ice-cream binging funk. She and Pato were cute. I'm glad Pato told Lola no. She can't keep playing games with him.

Things I enjoyed:
Seeing Aldonza in work clothes and out on the land.
Seeing Adelina giving Joaquin a real chance and playing with him and Ray.
Pato saying no to Lola.
Pru getting caught, drugged and asking for Tomas, by SL citizens. How will she explain THAT away once she's sober?

Oh, one other plot point-- Lola went to the hotel looking for Simoneta and was told she's moved back into her love nest. Looks like Lola has decided to go make peace with her.

Also nice to see more and more Aldonza and Eman behaving like brother and sister.

Thank you Vivi. I've kind of stopped paying attention to Renato. LOL.

Thanks for the reminder about Lola looking for Sim/Viv.

And don't worry Eli. Take care of yourself and get some rest. Life happens. Thank you for posting a space for us to talk.

No worries Eli and thanks Sara for getting it rolling.

Aldonza not only in work clothes and hat but played in the dirt and behind a plow pulled by a mule.

PJ gave blood, cause Cris lost lots of it, and Aldonza was gonna do it too. Couldn't understand why Emanuel wasn't but maybe he will. Since she couldn't go in the front door she's headed to the emergency entrance.

Renato sure misrepresented Aldonza's response to him about a possible relationship and Silvia did challenge his interpretation but he insisted with the kiss and way mistook it's portend. Not sure I'd want him as an attorney.

I thought the couple at the hotel in SM were Tomas parents, guess not. Not sure I'd want me as a witness.

Oh, I thought Tomas was gonna mistakenly kill Pru by crushing up all her pills not just one, her normal.

Hell yeah, Pato!

I wish I could feel warm and fuzzy about Hum and Eman's father-son bonding time last night, but all I kept thinking about is Hum's repeated stubbornness and a**-like behavior anytime anyone pressures him to tell the truth about Eman's origins.

Yep, Vivi, I almost fell for the Humberto & Emanuel bonding moment, especially when he told him to come see him anytime. I think Humberto just wanted to know about the horse but only got through part of the Mari marriage drama before the call about Cris.

Tofie- I don't think it was Tomas's parents. They did look familiar, but it was dark. His taking all the pills was kind of stupid, but wow she's built up a tolerance if she can take that many and still wake up.

Vivi - I totally don't get Hum. He's denying Eman of a sister and a caring aunt. Then wants to try and play the caring dad card. Jerk. Right there with you.

No, it wasn't Tomas' parents. In fact, the woman was the lady who walked by the tree that time Pru was hiding behind the tree in the town square talking to Tomas. I know because I know the actress from other tns.

I give Humberto some credit thought for being frightened enough to admit Cris needed a specialist. Ugh, but what kind of hack job has he done since that not an option and I doubt Severiano will forgive the debt and allow Huberto the land. Severiano still hasn't paid Adriano for killing Abelardo.

Did you hear how Pru explained ALL her pills, one to sleep, one to wake up, another to give her energy through the day? There was a whole litany. It's no wonder she could ingest all those sleeping pills and not die!

Hi, Sara, thanks for the quick run through; even here you caught an amazing amount of detail.

Eli - take good care of yourself, and don't worry.

Vivi, thanks for your insight into details that I frequently miss.

Yes, Sara, the main artery to the leg is the Femoral Artery. It is a big one, and if it is severed, you will bleed out in a matter of minutes. (Something like this happened on one episode of Band of Brothers; a guy accidently shot himself in the thigh, and even though there was a medic there, he died a few minutes later.) However the artery begins to split off into smaller arteries to supply the femur, and the thigh muscles, so it wouldn't be too hard to believe that Cris severed one of these, which, although serious, wouldn't be as quickly fatal as the main artery.

I wish someone in authority would have intervened during the altercation in the waiting room and said, "Oh, if you're his wife, you have all the rights here. You parents will just have to back off until she tells you that you can go in."

Ray was cute being cared for by everyone he comes in contact with, and especially Adelina, who looks like she is trying hard to create a loving atmosphere for him.

Thanks again, Sara.

David

Hehe, yes, she's a walking walgreens and she drink on top of it all.

I wanted Tomas to get busted so badly and playing both those girls when one's back turned. He was hilarious when he was flexing in the mirror when Pru on the phone.

David- I have to confess that I threw the artery remark out there as bait. I was hoping for some insight from you. Thank you for taking the bait. I enjoy reading your comments. I always learn something from them.

Tofie- I had such similar thoughts! I cannot believe that Cande and Sev think Hum is capable. I'd rather take my chances and wait. No way is Sev handing over the land.

Hahaha! Walking Walgreens!

(Caray and/or Gmail are being odd. I'm getting notifications late and all out of order.)

Hi guys,

Eli - no worries, take care of what needs taking care of.

Sara - thanks for the jumping in with the rundown! all points hit!

Vivi - DITTO on every single point.

I totally thought Pru was going to fall into the pool and drowned. How was Tomas going to explain ALL of her pills being gone the next morning anyway? Was not expecting the other ppl from SL to show up. I can't wait to hear what she has to say for herself.

Joaquin was holding a rose in his coat all morning, just in case he had a chance to give it to Adelina? Adorable! Romance isn't dead, it's still fighting for life in that hottie.

Loved the Silvia Pato scene. They've also got a cute, sibling-like vibe and they're the only ones that seem self-aware and have self-control.

Count me among the crowd that's surprised Sev begged Hum to operate instead of calling him an idiot butcher like he basically did when Hum operated on his arm. Deaperate times, I guess...

Ooohhhh. There was some talk about that night with the arm. But Val is getting like Renato for me. I start to tune out. Lol.

I mean. Val did bring up something about Sev's arm. I think.

Yeah, I think Val did point out that since Hum operated on Sever's arm, he should be able to operate on Cris' leg. I'd like to point out to her that Hum AMPUTATED that arm. I think Cris would really like to keep his leg...

You know what I really like about Pato turning down Lola? He wasn't a jerk about it. His feelings about her jerking him around (which she IS doing) did not affect his ability to be his usual pleasant, gallant self with her, offering to walk her home and/or to Las Animas.

Eli-- you take care and sleep up a storm! No way would we expect you to still recap after a day like that.

I remember another TN having a similiar plot with the artery accident. Always good for some angst, limping by the galan and then all well when he's heeled. But you can't tell me that there isn't any type of surgeon on call for emergencies that can be brought in from the city ( helicopter usually). Now Sev and Cande may not know Hum's total past, but I seem to recall he had something questionable happen before he came to SL. Let's pray it wasn't while doing surgery! He reallllllyyy didn't want to do anything. The panic was palpable.

And David, I couldn't agree more with that hospital confrontation. If I hear Cande throw out that "But I'm his mother" one more time, I'll implode. Yes, we all stay mothers no matter how old our children, but at some point, it doesn't give us precedents over everyone else, including the children in question and their wives.

Guess we got those token minutes where Sev actually can look and act like a normal human being. I'm sure it won't last long.

Lola + Sim = Boring

Ok, so now the planting has begun. Right now, not seeing anything that knocks my agricultural socks off. Do we know yet what they are planting? Did I miss that?

And Pato--thank you for showing how brain cells can function last night (Renato--my dear, please take note). The patio Cougars knew there was a reason why we just love you to bits. And a guy that can share a tub of ice cream with a bestie female friend...even better. But have to say, so painful watching that scene because I had to fast starting after supper last night for some tests this morning and that ice cream looked SOOOO GOOD!!

Daisynjay

Vivi - hear, hear! Pato's the best. He's not delusional like Renato, he's not bumbling like Emmanuel and he's not paradoxically accepting(? There's a better way to describe Cris, I just can't think of it right now) like Cris.

Hope all is well, Daisynjay. I feel your pain. I've been craving ice cream since last night. It looked really good.

I will gladly accept Pato as a yerno.

Well, at least none of the guys in this tn, no matter what their other faults, have done any slut shaming-- calling out female characters for what they see as slutty behavior, even women they supposedly "love." The only man who has done that is Sever, and he's a pig. I cannot say the same for some of the supposed galans in our other tns right now.

Even Joaquin, finding his wife making out with another man, kept things respectful and focused on the matter at hand-- Flavia's betrayal. Not on whether this made her a whore. Other writers would have had it devolve into that kind of talk.

ELI--get rested up! You will need your strength for tonite!

SARA--Thanks for getting the comments rolling, you must have photographic memory to rebuild the whole episode!

VIVI--I was laughing at Pru running down her list of meds, toward the end she mentioned one "for menopause". I was wondering how all those pills would affect her on top of the wine, that was a dangerous move, Tomas.

ALL--I smell a blood transfusion in Ald's near future, one that proves she is not his sister because of the blood types!!!
Smiling from ear to ear..

J in Oregon

I did have ice cream last night after Pato and Silvia did. Yummy.

My beanie moment last night was Aldonza behing that little plow. I know she was just entertaining Ray but it was so stupid. Guess Renato cannot rent a tractor.

I agree, Vivi. We are seeing a little more gallantry here.

J in Oregon - I wish I had a photographic memory. Vivi is the one with the steel trap memory.

Haha, tofie. Now that you say it... That plow scene was ridiculous.

Amen Vivi on the "slut shaming". That term should be trademarked on Meija productions.

No worries Sara. Our global corporation actually offers a free medical screening every year as part of an ongoing Wellness campaign (works with local providers). Got the whole enchilada done this morning, cholesterol, blood pressure, Blood glucose, weight basics, etc. Told my boss, guess I can sit up, take nourishment and keep plugging away for the next year.

And I plan to go down the street when I get home tonight and get myself a nice big cup of my favorite pistachio gelato at the sweet shop. You know, a reward for being good.

Daisynjay

Gracias, Sara, and Eli, no te preocupes.

Sev's arm had become necrotic due to excess blood loss and considering the site of Cris' injury one had tp worry about that. Except that he's our lead and needs to survive this.

Now that Aldonza's been told Cris did enter her room how will she react?

As for Pru, let's decide whom we want to have catch her and Tomas in the act. I'm caught between his parents and Valeria. In either case the scene would be hilarious. If Humberto catches them it won't be funny at all.

If Adelina ends the story still as the Tita of her family I will be mad enough to chew neutronium.

Padre J should definitely finagle something about a DNA test.

Vivi, when did Valeria ever think of anything that didn't benefit herself? And in view of Humberto thinking that Cris boinked Valeria under his roof, he'd be the last person anyone should want to operate on him.

Sara, I'm glad my increasingly feeble brain can provide some insight now and then.

Tofie, I got a kick out of your "Walgreens" remark, and your fascination with that little plow. Although the plow scene didn't make much sense, I enjoyed it because it demonstrated to me the support that little Ray is receiving from everyone around him.

Urban, I think authors use medical conditions and processes that sound familiar to us, which gives it a sense of authenticity, then they do whatever the hell they want with the situation to further their plot aims.

I hope Val is the one who will be given the full reveal about her mother's religious meeting (retreat?).

David

David- I liked the plow scene too, and seeing Little Ray enjoying himself. So different than when he was stuck in a hotel room with bickering Flavia and Adriano.

Hello Peeps....I wish I had something useful to add, but was distracted by Tomas and his near thigh high old man black socks. Somebody clue him in.

Also thought Pru was going to drown to add a little interest to the story. And though Cris got seriously injured in the netherlands. That would have solved Aldonza problem with intimacy.

Am waiting Sev's demise.

Happy to see Adelina and Joaquin and little Ray together.

Thank you Sara for jumping in and getting the recap up today. MUCH appreciated

Sara, vivi, and everybody that filled in for Eli, and got the comments going, thank you. Get some rest Eli.
Now I hope this gets through. I tried gettin comments ealier with "Lo imperdonable", and they went somewhere in the cosmos. So here I go again.
That part at the hospital where mel was trying to tell sev something, and sev was just really nasty to him, I don't know what he was saying to him but I could tell it was nasty disrespect to this old man. I wanted to knock sev over the nurses station desk. I know he was upset, but yall know how nasty sev can be. I felt so sorry for mel, cause he's not well himself.
I 'd love for there to be the need for a blood transfusion and his brother wasn't a match, and there was not enough in the blood bank, who would be the two worms squirming the most? The braided wonder and the onearmed bandit. I hope this brings about something good cris and ally.

Eli, please rest up - thank you for posting for discussion which has yielded very interesting opinions and feedback.

Sara, thank you for noting the highlights (double duty again today). :)

tofie, I would have sworn those were Tomas' parents too who appeared to help Pru in her very inebriated state. Honestly? I don't want anything bad to happen to her but I wouldn't have minded if she had gone into the pool! Seeing the amount of drug Tomas gave her (on top of all the wine as J noted) made her awakening rather unrealistic. So much for true love.

Tomas is a tool. Period.

J, I also hope that it is soon proven Al and Cris aren't sibs, but looks like that may be some time in the future. It appears Val will be moving in to play the false pregnancy card and that Cande will keep shrieking until Cris capitulates and likely agrees to marry her. Sigh.

And you are right Vivi that no other male character other than Sev has engaged in inappropriate and shameful name calling of the women. Interesting though that Cande as been just as vitriolic toward Roberta and Aldonza as he. Evil tyrants both.

Diana

Thanks for the bullet points Sara.

Eli---Everybody needs a day off sometimes.

Some of my thoughts---I was surprised to see Mel in such good shape last night. When
he left us on Friday he was falling off of his horse.

Ok, the hospital scene. We saw Sever screaming his head off and no one even bothered to look up. One would think that a hospital representative would tell him to pipe down, he's in a hospital and there are sick people there trying to get well
and they don't want to listen to his yelling. Hospitals are a QUIET zone punto.

Aldonza and E-man make an entrance and Ali gets yelled at to get out. I wanted to see Aldonza fight for her rights. After all Ali and Cris still are married. But no, she runs away. Where is the young fighter that we once saw? Also when Sev made a move for Ali, I wanted to see E-man knock Sever flat down on the floor. Looks like the bad guys are still nearly 100% in control.

The seeds--crop is being planted. Now lets see. Aldonza lives in a beautiful house,
(I want to live there) it is furnished to the hilt inside, she, Adelina, and E-man are eating well and she is plowing, planting seed with a mule??? QUE??? What happened to Renato's big bankroll? If they can't afford to buy a new tractor, how about a used one? Maybe rent one? Maybe I've been living in the good ole USA too long but I thought that the plow and mule went out with the Stone Age?

Every likes Pato but I just can't get crazy about him. Nice guy? Yes but he sure isn't very manly. I don't know but I just don't see this guy as a great catch.
the gringo

Aldonza behind a plow (but agree Ray playing in the dirt long overdue) is so funny for me cause the only time I see it is when I'm in Southeast Asia and the rural rice farmers or poorer countries like Myanmar and Cambodia have them harnessed to water buffalo. Beautiful sight but back breaking work and always in awe. Large commercial farms are mechanized, particularly in Thailand and not a buffalo drawn plow in sight.

Aldonza told Sever that they would leave, only because this is a HOSPITAL and they shouldn't be disrespecting the sick people with their yelling. But she and Eman just went to wait outside the clinic entrance, and got the update from Padre that the surgery was nowhere near over when she decided to go to the Church to pray. I don't think she's given up. But since Cris is in surgery, all she would be doing is mad dog staring down Sever, Cande, and Val in the waiting room. Who needs that?

Yeah right---Every episode that airs, I ask myself if Vile is going to play the I'm pregnant with Cris' baby card. It has to be coming very soon now.

Wouldn't it be something that if because of the injury, Cris would be unable to have sex ever again? How fast would Vile drop her claim to him then?
the gringo

Gringo- I think Val would rather be married to a rich impotent man, with her legitimized kid, and have some lovers on the side to meet her needs, than be a stigmatized single mother.

Gringo and tofie, down here in Southwestern Indiana, there is a sizable Amish community who farm with horses, and who have horse drawn buggies to get around in. They may not have telephones in their homes, and there is no electricity to their homes. The prohibition on telephones is because they feel it contributes to lazy frivolous behavior (watch any teen-age girl and see if this is true or not) but there is frequently an outside phone booth in the are that several families share. The ban on electricity is because they feel this would make them too dependent on people outside their faith. So, it is possible to live without those things and prosper, even while raising a large family.

David

Glad everything is ok, Daisynjay.

emeraldrose-your description of Tomas' socks gave me a giggle.

gringo- I was kind of surprised at Mel's quick recovery too! I thought for sure he was a goner.

Gringo, I was saying the same thing to my husband last night about the mule and plow. That method is going to take a week to plow that field.

Renato is totally fooling himself if he thinks that those 2 kisses he gave Aldonza was any sign of encouragement. She didn't even smile after doing them.

On what green earth would those two beautiful women want anything to do with Tomas. He didn't even have enough fashion sense to take off his socks.

Now that Adelina has agreed to pursue Joaquin, we all know that Flavia will return and want to rekindle what she has with him.

Now we know the avenue that Aldonza will get back the farm back. With Sev ceding it to Humberto, it will only be a matter of time before she owns it again.

Right David---The Amish but they are a people unto themselves. When thinking about society today, I don't think Amish however you make a good point. I just couldn't help thinking that Renato is bankrolling Ali and all she's got to use is a hand plow and a mule.

At least Ali isn't afraid of or allergic to work. Can anyone out on the patio picture Vile actually doing what Aldonza is doing or any other kind of work for that matter?
the gringo

Val works hard...shopping, cruising the internet on her tablet...

Hey, Eli! Honey, take care of yourself!

Sara, thank you for the run down of last night's ep! I was confused about the couple who found Pru because the wife wasn't right but the husband sure looked like Tomas' dad! Yeeee-hah! She's about to get busted.

Yah, I knew Friday that blood donation was in the wings. I hope they get to the plot point they're trying to make with this tonight. This whole week ought to be exciting.

David, the family last year and this traveled through Amish country in Pennsylvania and, I don't know, when I pass by them in their horse-drawn buggies I feel a combination of peace and as if I;m in a time-warp. Their farms are so beautiful and pitureresque. I admire them for their dedication to their way of life.

BUT. Donnie does need to get a tractor!

:)

Just went back and watched. The two people who came upon Pru were NOT Tomas' parents. But they definitely knew her.

Tomas' dad is played by the same actor who played the priest in QA.

If any of you saw CME or Mujer del Vendaval, the actress who plays the woman who encounters Pru is in both in big roles. That's why I though it strange when all she did was walk by a tree when we saw her some episodes back. Now I see that she will have an ongoing role in Pru's attempts to cover up her affair.

Wow,,,Sara to the rescue. Thank you so much for the emergency recap.

Eli, I hope that life slows down for you soon.

Pru seems to be a walking pharmacy. does anyone remember Sheri Oteri playing a woman on all sorts of prescription meds on SNL. l will never forget that she wore heavy eye shadow over only one eye. I, too, thought the couple was Tomas's parents.

AL was plowing that field with a mule..que..this is her plan to regain her family farm. She needs a big old John Deere.

Sara, maybe that's why he looked so familiar. Pru was calling Tomas' name, though. Oh, I so hope she's about to get busted.

So. Would Cande and Sev rather have Cris die than get Donnie's blood if she's a match. I think it would kill them to have to be grateful to her.

Sounds like we're in for some fun, Vivi.

I will have to look up that sketch, Susanlynn. I'm a Gilda Radner Rosanne Rossanadanna kinda gal. :)

Vivi, I saw CME, what role did she play?

Lila- She was the crazy lady who became obsessed with Tio Honorio (Padre J) and later ends up in the manicomio with Fina, becoming her ally.

Lila, the female looked more familiar than the male. It definitely wasn't Tomas' dad. That actor looks way too young to be Tomas' dad. But everyone looks young to me.

In Mujer del V, she played Michelle R's (Aldonza) mom, and the aunt/guardian of the heroine.

Wow, Vivi! Thank you, girl! And Sara, I was way off with both people but I should've known when they didn't react to Tomas' name. What a mess!

Okay. I see now they are totally different. Jeez. How could I have made that mistake!

THANK YOU Sara and Caray! mates for the sort-of-recap and episode info. Y'all are the best!

I did not have time to watch this one and will not have time to watch it.. BUT I will have to make time to FFWD--> to the mule & plow scene. Must see TV.

The scene with the little plow looked like a "Pottery Barn Kids" ad...
Cute. But I was thinking how can she be holding the plow with one hand?

J in O

The woman who encountered Pru was a shopkeeper who sold her a 'gift' she assumed was for Hum. Several episodes later she passed Hum on the street and asked him how he liked his gift. He was clueless. I think it was cologne she bought for Tomas.

Anon- No. That was not the same woman.

Aw, Eli...work does get in the way of having a good time :D Thanks for putting up a post for discussion. And thank you, Sara, for getting the major plot points in.

Liked: the ice cream bit with Silvia and Pato and the friendship between them in general.

Disliked intensely: The drugging of Pru. I always hate it when people get drugged or have their drinks spiked. And never on these shows does someone die or have an allergic reaction or anything. It's all just fun and games.
