La sombra del pasado #103 7/9/15

Valeria gives back the engagement ring. She tells Cris she'll take it back if he changes his mind. Cris responds with a rousing chorus of "We are never ever ever getting back together." Val spews some venom about Aldonza and does this flouncy dizzy spell maneuver. Cris comes running and she pouts about him faking concern. She knows she doesn't matter to him. Oh and Val, the 80s called, they want their shirt back.

Aldonza tells Adelina she's going to give Renato a try. Adelina approves. Aldonza is going to put all her effort into the relationship. Whatever.

Cris has saddled up the horse and he's going for a ride. He needs to get away from the oppressive atmosphere. All talk buddy. I would be more impressed if you were packing your bags and getting the hell out permanently. A midnight ride just ain't cuttin' it with me, Pablo Revere.

Dom is on a tear. She's cleaning out Cande's chifferobe (I like that word.) Out comes the candy house. It's now in Dom's possession. Add it to the list, Diva!

Aldonza sees Padre J at the church. He's obviously got something on his mind and Aldonza mentions it. He just blows it off as parroquia business and being tired from the trip. They share a tender moment. She loves him. He loves her.

Flavia brings Ray home. Ray reports that ice cream was purchased and Adelina was seen. Joaquin hopes Flavia wasn't rude. Between hacking coughs, she assures him she was on her best behavior with Adelina. They fight about Flavia seeing Ray. SHe starts hacking again and Joaq tells her about the doctor in the DF. He doesn't like that cough at all. Flavia wants to be able to see Ray whenever she wants. Joaq promises she will.

Ok. I kvetched about Cris midnight ride, but at least it led him stalker fashion to El Santuario. So he was there when Aldonza was shot by a mystery shooter (who for a moment seemed to have thought about shooting Cris.) Camilo and Adelina come running when they hear the gunshots.

At Las Animas dinner is served...to no one. Sev and Cande are both out. Not together...but both are out.

Cris runs up to El Santuario. They are going to put Aldonza in the truck. Adelina calls Hum. He will meet them at the clinic.

Sev and Cande both arrive home at the same time. Cande was at the chapel praying that Aldonza disappear from Cris's life forever. Sev reminds her that the Church protects Aldonza and hints that that protection may soon end. He doesn't give Cande any further details. Cande asks where he was and he wonders if she's worried about him being with another woman. Cande laughs in his face. She wouldn't be at all surprised that he has another woman now that Simoneta is not his lover. She just hopes that this time he's not stupid enough to get his lover pregnant. Dom comes out to ask about dinner, but they've both lost their appetite.

Val and Pru do their thing. Val is whining about pregnancy nausea. Pru thinks Val should go to the doctor, but Val is against it. He'll ask about the ultrasound he sent her to get and she hasn't gotten it done. Pru comments that it's odd that Cande hasn't been naggin about it. Then Val says she hopes that Cande will stop obsessing about it. That's cute how Val thinks Cande is going to stop being a controlling shrew. Pru also mentions that at some point Hum is going to figure out that Val is further along than she is. Pru thinks maybe Val's physical maladies are more psychological ones.

Hum and staff wait for Aldonza to arrive. They whisk her away. Hum asks what kind of weapon it was. Cris tells him some rifle or something.

Joaq and Mel talk about Mel returning to Las Animas. Sev is acting like nothing happened. Then they move onto the animal stuff for El Santuario. Joaq will be in charge. Mel is there to help him with anything they need.

Adelina can't get in touch with the Padre. He's busy praying and meditating.

The conversation between Mel and Joaq moved on to Lola. Mel reports that things are moving along with Lola and Pato...but Mel is sure she still carries a torch for Emanuel.

Emanuel is busy looking at Lola's picture on his phone. He thinks about how Lola snuck into his room after Abelardo beat him over the head. His reverie is interrupted by Veronica. She jumps up on the bed with him. She shows off her ASSets while reaching for his phone. She asks if Lola is his girlfriend. He yes/nos and does't really answer the question, but does say he loves Lola with all his soul. Veronica looks disappointed, but she still comforts him. (It's clear when she leans over for the phone, that Em is turned on by her. Kudos to him for being honest with her and not taking advantage.)

Pato is blabbity blabbity. Lola tunes him out and thinks about the day she went to get some special candy for Em. Lola finally comes back to reality. She turns down Pato's dinner invite and asks him to take her home.

Adelina lights into Cris. Sev did this. Cris's father did this. Cris knows how much his parents hate Aldonza. Cris can't accept it. Adelina tells him it's not the first time Sev has hurt Aldonza and she almost lets it slip about the rape. Adelina swears Sev is responsible and she'll make sure he pays.

Cande interrupts the Devil's slumber (ooo. Her hair is down, but still severely pulled back.) Cris isn't home!! Every time he disappears she dies a little (creepy) and she's worried he's with that woman. Sev wonders how she can even think that? They got divorced today! Sev thinks Cris is drunk at some cantina. Sev reminds Cande that the last time Cris got drunk, he ran to Val. Cande reminds Sev that as long as Aldonza is alive, Cris is not going to give her up.

Aldonza is fine. No major arteries or bones were hurt. She can stay at the clinic overnight, but it's not necessary. Adelina wants Aldonza to stay in the clinic overnight. Hum tells her she'll need to convince Aldonza.

Adelina and Cris go head to head again. She asks him to leave. Aldonza is fine. Now go away Cris and tell your family to leave Aldonza alone. Lola runs in.

Ray wants his mom. Joaq tries to explain that sometimes two people live apart, but they both still love Ray. He tries to tell Ray that Flavia is in the DF seeing a doctor, but the boy doesn't believe him.

Adelina and Lola check on Aldonza. Adelina wants Sev to pay, but Aldonza says they can't prove it. Adelina won't stop until they do. Aldonza asks where Cris is.

Cris is busy dragging his dad out of bed and accusing him of shooting Aldonza. Sev denies it and asks how he can shot someone with a rifle with one arm? Cris can even go look at his rifle to prove to himself it wasn't used. He also says he didn't leave the hacienda. Cande looks at Sev funny.

Aldonza won't spend the night at the hospital or at her uncle's house.

Cande and Sev aruge about whether he was capable or not of shooting Aldonza. Sev insists he didn't do it. Cande doesn't believe him. Sev argues that if he was going to kill Aldonza he would have used a pistol or a knife. Something he could manage with his one arm. Cande thinks that's exactly why he used a rifle-to throw off suspicion. Sev throws the blame back on her. Were there any witnesses that saw her at the chapel? Hmmmm? Cande says that even with all the hate she has for Aldonza, she's is not an asesina. Sev says that even though Cande doubts it, he insn't either (which a guess gender wise is true. He's not an asesinA.) Well, Cande says, if neither of us is capable of murder...what a shame that the person who is failed. Sev is "say what? Failed?" Cande has to remind Sev that Cris said "intento". He never said Aldonza is dead.

Cris asks Mel if his parents were out. Mel will ask around. Cris tells Mel about Aldonza getting shot. Cris still has his doubts. Mel will find out all he can.

Aldonza is leaving the hospital. They overhear a nurse thumbing her nose at the HIPPA laws (if they have them in Mexico) and telling some unknown female caller that Aldonza is fine and leaving the clinic now. Hum thinks Cris must have told Cande. The police show up to ask Aldonza a few questions. She tells him she's sure it was Sev. She will have to file a formal complaint.

Cande begs entry into Cris's room and asks about Aldonza. Cris tells her to quit acting like she cares. Cande says it can't be Sev; he can't shoot a rifle. Cris says Cande can. Cris accuses Cande of being the shooter. It's AWWWWE-SOME(™ hellashelle)! Cande hates the hell out of Aldonza. Cande can't believe Cris thinks they are capable of killing. Cris would love to be able to trust them blindly. Cande hopes the police find the real culprit so she isn't sullied by this.

Sev calls his lawyer and asks him to "tramite un amparo." Get an order of protection?? Help me out patio.

Aldonza is glad Sev had bad aim. Were they talking? All I saw was a bloody sweater getting way to close to a gorgeous crocheted bedspread. Oh. God. It hurts me...

Dom is explaining about how she came back to work at Las Animas. The Padre is glad that she's back because she was always a source of support for Candela. And for Aldonza too. That's when Dom tells him about Lola running for the clinic when she found out about Aldonza. Dom has to tell him about Aldzona getting shot. The padre is upset. Dom explains Aldonza is fine and already home.

Sev goes looking for the rifle. Its gone! He goes screaming for Cande. She did it! She tried to kill Aldonza! That way she could kill two birds with one bullet. (Actually one bird and a bastard.) Aldonza would die, she would be rid of him AND Sev would look bad in Cris's eyes. Cande denies it. She may not like it, but Sev is still part of her family (WHY????) Sev starts thinking. Val was there yesterday when he was cleaning the gun. She knew where it was. Cande goes to double check the location again. Sev worries that Cris took the gun to the police. He tells Cande that he's already got Nava working on that protection order, and he suggests Cande do the same.

Pru is on her way out to see a lawyer. Val still feels like crap. Pru asks if Val wants something different for breakfast.

Aldonza and Lola talk. Aldonza is scared. She's going to file charges against Sev. Lola says boyfriend Renato can help with that. Aldonza says she's giving it a try, but they aren't novios yet. Lola reminds her that lawyers like things to be clear. Aldonza says she's going to try with all her strength to love Renato the way he loves her. Blech.

Mel gives Cris the intel. Sev didn't leave La Animas. His horse and truck didn't leave. Cande wasn't out either. The only people out and about were Mel and Cris. Then who could have shot Aldonza?

Cande has paid a visit on Val. She asks point blank: Did you try to kill Aldonza. And she does't buy Val's "what are you talking about?" act. Cande asks again. Val defiantly says "Yes! And I can't tell you how sorry I am that I missed!"

Woo hoo! Thank you for the recap Sara!

OK, first things first...the updated version of The Saga of The Candy House:

Mystery Man (the original maker? purchaser?) puts the ring and a letter inside and gives it to...
Marga, but we don't know if she ever found the ring and/or letter. She gave it to...
Lola, so that Lola would be able to give Em something way better than Mari's stinky chocolates. She gave it to...
Emmanuel, who made the mistake of stashing it in his closet, where...
Pru got her hands on it, claiming it in the name of having to put up with Em in her house. But once everyone started looking for it, she took it over to...
Tomas, who was supposed to hide it, but instead put it up on Ebay. He hid it in his closet and when...
His mom came in to clean, she took it and gave it to...
The church for the raffle/fundraiser where...
Silvia and Renato jointly won it. But then Renato started acting all un-lawyerly, so Silvia gave it to...
Ray and Joaquin, where it might have stayed, had they not left it in the park after Ray fell, where...
Irma and Uriel found it and took it home, intending to have Padre J help them track down the real owner, except that...
Mari deputized herself to take it to Padre J, with a brief stop to torture Lola along the way, and dropped it off on…
Padre J's desk without any explanation, where he assumed that Candela had given it to him, so he gave it back to…
Cande and for whatever reason, she accepted it and took it home as, as Padre J put it, "a symbol of the love between their families." However, since Padre J so very publicly made her and Sev look like liars in front of the entire town, she gave it to…
Dominga when Dominga was cleaning Cande's room.

Thanks Sara and Kat. The Candy House has a much more interesting life than anyone else in SL. It sure gets around. If Dom takes it home, will Lola recognize it and claim it again. If so, it will have gone full circle. Will anyone ever find the ring?

Rosemary Primera

I was really disturbed by a lot of things to do with the shooting, but I'm right there with you about the sweater getting too close to the bedspread. And her wearing the sweater in the first place. Don't most hospitals give you scrubs or a t-shirt or something so you don't have to wear your bloody clothes home? Also disturbing--they were standing out on the front porch FOREVER just screaming and wringing their hands instead of DOING something like calling for an ambulance. I mean, what if Pablo Revere hadn't been out there on his midnight ride? Would she be dead now?

I thought it was a little silly to spend the whole episode with everyone accusing everyone else and then reveal that it was Valeria so quickly. Then again, she was the only viable choice (although I don't believe she would know how to load and/or fire one--Humberto doesn't seem like the type to take her hunting). Cande doesn't have it in her and Sev is right--he couldn't load the rifle on his own. Of course now, him cleaning the rifle the night before seems especially contrived. Why clean a weapon you can't even use? Why even own it? This is now the second time someone has committed a crime with one of his guns. Lock 'em up, Sev!

Emmanuel and Vero lounging around was kind of fun. I like how casual she is. I think maybe he needs a little lightness. As long as she doesn't get him in trouble again or interfere with his career.

Rosemary, that would be nice to see the Candy House go back to Lola. I suppose if Lola gets it back, she's going to want to return it to Marga.

My pleasure, ladies. It was nice to see the candy house again.

Gracias, Sara. Good stuff.

I think Sev masterminded Vileria's commission of this crime. He directed her in how to clean and load the rifle and taught her how to aim it. And to wear gloves while doing so. If she is currently in possession of the rifle what are the chances she will frame Cristobal as revenge for his rejection of her?

Thanks, Sara! And thanks Kat for adding the latest chapter to the Candy House adventures.

I was glad that they resolved the mystery of who shot Al quickly. Even though Sever didn't do it, I assume the cops are going to want to see his rifle and wonder why it's missing. Kind of suspicious to have two of his guns get "stolen" and used by other people in crimes.

Padre is going to be so upset that he wasn't informed about the shooting the night before. Al told Ade not to tell him since she could tell he was depressed about something and she didn't want to add to his troubles. If he was praying and meditating about making peace with his upcoming departure, I imagine hearing that someone attempted to murder his niece is going to completely overturn any peace he might have found.

SWC Indeed! Might awesome Sara. Not the best written episode last night, and yet your recap was great! I think our Caray folks could give some pointers to these TN writers.

I also need to thank you for the details on those scenes as Allie left the hospital and got home because that STUPID SWEATER bugged the daylights out of me. And neither Lola or Ade thought, oh, hey, let me take that off you so you can rest and not look at that. Instead it gets patted like some trophy. I was utterly disgusted.

And then you have to give it to Allie, after a hard night recouping, her makeup and hair was perfection the next morning. Cracked me up. I guess our heroine must look good at all times.

Surprised at the end too that it was revealed to be Val so soon. I mean it was telegraphed, but for her to admit it to Cande. Now what? Will Cande actually want a person hooked to her son that doesn't blanch at killing somemone? She talks a big talk on getting rid of Allie, but now you have the potential killer as your daughter in law? Her reaction either solidifies Cande as anvil worthy or on a road to redemption.

Why didn't they call Ren since this was a shooting and the cops would want to be involved ( at least they kept that honest and had one show up). And why the heck didn't Ade keep trying to reach Padre. Morning would have worked too.

Sorry, I still like E-man and the spunky V. But they are playing the heavy meant to be with Lola. Sigh. And little baffled Dom just takes the candy house. Bet it does get back to Lola for what purpose maybe we will finally find out?

Daisynjay

Daisynjay- Adelina didn't keep trying to call Padre became Al asked her not to, and at the end of the scene in the bedroom she was getting Al fresh clothes.

Con mucho gusto, Urban, Daisynjay and Vivi.

Sorry I forgot that bit about Aldonza not wanting her uncle called.

I have to admit that I thought it was Sev at first, but wondered why the camera only showed a gloved right hand. Sev's rant about the rifle being missing is fake either way because he masterminded this.

Speculation: Vile disposed of the rifle and the gloves before going home. Prudencia is conveniently drunk and noticed nothing strange she would ever remember, and Humberto is out of the house. In theory she would have an alibi. Except she admitted her crime to Candela.

Candela was smart enough to suspect Vile, but Vivi raises the valid question of whether she would feel comfortable with a killer for a daughter-in-law. Could she live with this for another 30 or 40 years?

Not that she will because we know Vile would have to be caught. This would conveniently settle the fate of her baby when it's born and Cristobal gets enough grey cells together to request a DNA test. Vile finds out whether orange is the new black and the baby goes to Irma and Uriel, who will be recovering from the shock of learning who Mari really is.

Gracias Sara! I missed this episode, so I really appreciate your awesome recaps.

G from OH, what if Sev never left? And was only helping Val get the gun, playing dumb in front of Cande? That explains why no one saw him leave even tho we know he wasn't in. Just a theory. He was very quick about those protection papers too

Sara, sublime. You infused such great humor to help us deal with the odious events of last night. Thank you...

"A midnight ride just ain't cuttin' it with me, Pablo Revere" and "She shows off her ASSets while reaching for his phone" were several of my favorites.

Kat, yes, too much time spent fretting after the shooting and no calling. I differ though in thinking Cande doesn't have it in her. I think she could definitely murder - I equate her involvement in ripping Eman from Roberta and subjecting him to a life where he was barely tolerated (let alone not loved) akin to murder. I will NOT cut that woman a break. Daisy, you are a much kinder person than I to suggest Cande might be rehabilitated. I fervently hope that does not occur. She is evil incarnate.

Vivi, the Padre is going to be upset he wasn't told immediately - like Gobluefan, I was yelling for Adelina to leave a message for him!

Valeria - you are dead to me.

I've been hard on Cris in that he hasn't left his parents house. But last night there was such anger and pain. How can you truly comprehend both of your parents are monsters??

Diana

SBC, love it.

"Oh and Val, the 80s called, they want their shirt back"

"Pato is blabbity blabbity"

"tramite un amparo" is really a challenge to incarceration (used preemptively), and makes it difficult for prosecutors (not really anything in US law similar but we have Habeas corpus). Sev is getting out ahead of what he is sure Aldonza will do and suggested the same to Cande

Hate that it was Val, cause when it comes out, it will just make Aldonza look like a nut case for immediately suspecting Severiano.

Lola should not get the Emanuel prize, come on, work it Veronica

I see real sincerity in Aldonza's resolve to reciprocate Renato's love, something lacking toward Cris

Adelina made me mad when she blamed Cris but she makes me mad whenever she opens her pie hole.

I wonder sometimes whether Adelina would really prefer that Aldonza remain a spinster and share her misery with her. She is hardly on par with Carlotta in ENDA, but I was thinking last night that this is the scenario that she would be most comfortable with.

If Cristobal does end up with Aldonza, he should insist that Adelina move out and get a life. It's a novela cliche that he would ultimately forgive her accusation but I think that's asking too much of him.

BTW, I agree with an earlier comment that it is difficult to face the possibility that one's parents are monsters, especially when it's both of them. Cristobal will need a shrink when he learns everything.

I agree with you UA, Adelina would be ok with Aldonza a spinster. Misery loves company.

Thank you Sara, now I have to go back and look at Val's sweater.

I was confused, first Sev and Cande both left, and then Mel says neither left? Who did Mel talk to? He should have asked Dominga.

And another thing, the bullet didn't stay lodged in Aldonza's shoulder? So no surgery was necessary? And they could leave her clothes on to treat it? Never mind, I guess I don't really care, lol.

Ok, so that's a whole lotta nothing that happened last night.

Except that Vile admitted being the shooter. I can't wait to see how Candela takes that bit of news.

Sara - Thank you for the recap and the snark! My favorite lines were ---
"Oh and Val, the 80s called, they want their shirt back"
and "Pablo Revere"
LOL!

I cannot believe that shotgun was used so quickly in the story. Writers did not waste any time, did they?

Cande has not been involved in anything violent yet, beyond slaps, has she? I doubt she shot Aldonza. It doesn't seem to be her style. Evil shrew? Yes. Asesina? Hhhmmmmm...... I really don't think so.

It still bugs me that they allowed Aldonza to leave the hospital hours after treatment. They should have kept her there for a day or two in case of infection and to make sure the bleeding stops.

Vile is dead meat now. I wonder whether Candela will figure out that Sev is the brains behind this. Or whether she would fear being Vile's next victim if Vile married Cristobal.

Unfortunately we're seeing the set up for Lola and Emanuel to reunite and end up together, poo. I wish these writers would stray from the usual once in a while.

It's interesting that Val seems to have no problem trying to kill someone. Will Cande get over this and still want her to be married to Cris, and still be her daughter in law? Cande's not an asesina, but will she be ok that the mother of her grandchild is?

Oh, wait,,,, I see that Vile Val admitted to shooting Aldonza. That's what I get for being caffeine-free this morning. Gah..... And my telenovela beanie hat is on too tightly. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. :-D

SBC/Sara, you really helped us sort this out, and added your special brand of humor to season the whole mix (80's shirt; Vero's ASSets; Pablo Revere).

I am still not clear on exactly what happened. Sev and Cande were definitely gone; the shot was clearly depicted as being fired with a right hand only; and Sev calling his lawyer to get a whatever tofie said it was.

I loved Sev telling Cande that he isn't a murderer. His demeanor was like, "Sure, I have dabbled in kidnapping, rape and a bunch of other stuff. I mean, who doesn't? But I would never murder anyone."

It seemed to me that Cande's rehab started last night. She seemed genuinely interested in finding out exactly what happened, and let the chips fall where they may. Her new test, I think, will be how she reacts to Val's attempted murder.

Aldonza's sweater would have been cut off with scissors by the ER staff and thrown in the trash or bagged for evidence.

How will PJ react to this? I could see him asking for a leave of absence or a sabbatical or something so he could be with his family. And with the Roman collar off, I would love to see Sev try to sucker punch him again. I don't think that would go very well for Sev.

Eman's self control was almost beyond belief. He must really have it bad for Lola to pass up something that literally landed in his lap.

Thanks again, Sara. I will be looking forward to tonight's episode to see if some of this is cleared up.

David

Thanks Vivi for clarifying on the sweater. See, I wasn't listening it drove me so crazy. I would have pitched it in the hospital and given her my coat/sweater. Guess more dramatic to have that thing sitting there in the scenes.

Interesting point on Adelina. Not sure she would go so far to wish Allie a life just like hers, but I do think, that despite her outward comforting and support of Allie at times, that subconsciously she wouldn't mind Allie and Cris NOT getting together. Cris is always going to be associated with Cris. And I'm sure she sees Sev as the one who lied and manipulated Roberta, which ultimate led to the loss of the love of HER life, Ray.

We got close last night to Cris denouncing his father, and I guess when he learns about his involvement with Allie's rape, that should seal the deal. If he learns mumsy knew or suspected as well, that will seal it for both. Still won't satisfy me enough that somehow that will magically make everything ok for Allie and Cris in a marriage, but it's TN. I have to remember that.

Daisynjay

I should have typed Cris associated with Sev. It's Friday...one more meeting and then more coffee will be inhaled and I'll be better.

Daisynjay

EXCELLENT recap Sweet Baby Chihuahuas!

Great job 5ft Latina of keeping track of the candy house, you would be a great asset in the SLPD, but then we wouldn't have a story.

Comments deleted. Please review the rules.

Thank you Sara! Last night's eipsode was this morning's background noise, so I'm glad for your recap; it spiced things up nicely.

I repeat the faves: Pablo Lyle as Pablo Revere is hilarious. Love how he vaulted over that wall to get to Aldonza. Also love Pablo as Taylor Swift: "Cris responds with a rousing chorus of "We are never ever ever getting back together."

ITA: Cris isn't in his crib so Cande "dies a little (creepy)". Yeah, last night was especially weird to me because she saw him earlier and it was only a little after dinnertime. Like seriously, is it late enough to be worrying that he went for a drunken swim or whatever your imagining because of the divorce? Lord have mercy! She reminds me of my little cousin: once, when my cousin was still only a couple of years old, my Grandmother complained that when she was babysitting, she couldn't even go to the bathroom alone for the all the whining and crying and toddling after her that my cousin did. Cande, try to remember that you're not two, ok?

Well I guess I totally underestimated Val. She's so nonchalant about it too! "Yeah, I did it. So what?" Um, you do know attempted murder is a crime right? Even for you, not-quite-daughter-in-law of rich folk?

Is Pru really just going to a lawyer? Or is she also going to stop by and see why Tomas hasn't been blowing up her phone every five minutes?

Hellashelle, that's exactly what my daughter did when she was 2 also. I couldn't go anywhere without her tagging along after me. Never had a time going to the bathroom alone. Now she doesn't even want to go with me to the store, sigh!
Cande is so over the top with Cris being out of her sight that it's ludicrous.

David- So true. That sweater should have been cut up and cut off of her. Well, at least it's not like when they do brain surgery in tns, and not one spot of hair has been shaved, and they put a bandage on TOP of the hair. :) That always cracks me up.

Eman and self control? Maybe he's growing up. Self control with the bottle and with women has not been his strong suit.

Candela knows nothing about the rape, nor does she know about the two murders Sev completed himself, the one he paid for, or the one that didn't work. She will be livid when she hears about the attempt on Padre J's life and probably scared to death about the other two.

Let's not forget Sev's complicity in the murder of Raymundo and the arson.

She seems ripe for the manicomio in my book.

Cande was also really close to Padre Sixto and took it really hard when he died. She will be horrified when she learns that Sever killed him. But really, her empathy and sympathy are only extended to those in her select circle (Cris; Dominga; Padre J; Padre Sixto; Sever before the affair with Rob was revealed). She can't really empathize with others when they face tragedy. Look at her cold response to the Lagos family when they lost their son. She showed her face at the wake, but that was only about keeping up appearances. I don't see her being overly concerned that Val tried to kill Al. Only that she might not have covered her tracks well and might bring police ridicule to the Mendozas.

For a guy who just had his leg healed himself not all that long ago, he did not only leap, but helped carry not a small Allie to the truck it looked like.

I give Cande one atta girl last night, she actually knocked before coming into Cris' room if I remember right. But then she may make me through something tonight...never know with her.

Val isn't the sharpest tack on the block, so wonder where she ditched the rifle is she did use it. I missed the first few minutes, did we see if the figure ditched it somewhere?

Daisynjay

Daisynjay - Good call on Cris and the bad leg carrying Aldi. Maybe some weeks (or months? had passed in TelenovelaTime, even though the did not 'unas semanas despues' us)

Daisynajay- Don't give Cande too much credit. The only reason she knocked was because Cris had locked the door (hallelujah!). Why he went and unlocked it is beyond me.

There couldn't have been much time because Vile would be showing. Note how scared she is of an ultrasound that would blow her lie to smithereens.

I'm really tired of the lack of medical verisimilitude in these stories. There is no way Aldonza would be released from the hospital less than two days after a wound like that. And wouldn't she also merit police protection? Oh, wait; her rep has been sullied by Pru, Vile, Candela, and anyone they could brainwash. The town slut doesn't deserve protection.

Urban- Yeah. You would think the cops would take this a bit more seriously. This wasn't some kind of accident. Oops! Someone mishandled a gun and Al accidentally got shot. Someone used a long range weapon and PURPOSELY targeted Aldonza to KILL her. What makes the cops and everyone think this is a one off thing? But nope. The police chief is just going to let Al go back to the scene of the crime (!) and just count on her to come into the station tomorrow to give her statement. The cops should be combing Santuario looking for clues about the sniper-- dropped shells, footprints, etc.

My pleasure, PBN, David, cathyx, doris, hellashelle, Unknown, and Diana. I appreciate the comments today and every day.

I also cringed when Cris jumped on that horse. Ouch.

I'm inclined to think that Sev's panic was genuine. If it were anyone else, I'd say that waiting until he heard about the shooting before calling Nava was to make himself look less suspicious, but I think Sev trusts Nava enough at this point that if he knew what Val was going to do and that she was going to use his gun to do it, he would have planned better and called Nava sooner. Hell, he would have given Val cash to buy another rifle or bought one himself instead of having her use one that could be traced back to him.

Daisynjay, I'm glad the cop showed up and isn't ignoring that there was a shooting, but I swear, he looked like he was annoyed with Aldonza over it. It's not like she asked to be shot! We didn't see anything about what Val might have done with the rifle and the gloves.

cathyx, Sev and Cande both left the house, but they didn't leave the ranch. I don't know where Sev was, though. All we know is Jacinto was at the gate and he never saw Sev's truck go through it. The only people Jacinto saw leaving were Melesio and Cris.

Though, I will say, we've seen from Aldonza's previous visits that it's possible to get in and out of Las Animas without going through the front gate. I don't know how difficult it is or who else knows the way, but I'm guessing it's a person-accessible or maybe a horse-accessible route, but not one you can take with a car or truck. Sev would be downright stupid to have all those valuable horses there and know that there's a way to get onto his property with a vehicle and not want that route closed off!

I don't really think Cande cares about what Val did, just that she did it rather stupidly. I guess we'll see when she starts asking more questions about how Val did it and how well she covered her tracks.

David, thanks for confirming about the sweater. I thought that was bizarre to have it still on her. I didn't even think about it being evidence, but I guess it would be. Plus, someone should have taken pictures of the wound itself once she was in condition to do that.

hellashelle, I'm completely expecting Pru to fake-casually stop by the church to talk to Padre J about her deep spiritual anguish and oh, there you are, Tomas, I didn't even see you there....

YOu would think considering someone tried to shoot up the ranch with Padre and Ade in it once before, that the cops would be thinking "Hmmmm, do we have a pattern here?" I get the cop perhaps annoyed because all accusations go immediately to Sev, and from his perspective he isn't all the way there with thinking that's plausible, but a little more urgency on his part or caring would have been appreciated and maybe a cop or two show up at the ranch. Maybe tonight. After it rains, and wind sweeps away all evidence, and some kids find the gun and move it...just kidding. I guess we should be thrilled someone from the force showed up at all.

And I guess the whole Ade didn't follow up with the Padre because Allie asked her not to, which admittedly I didn't catch last night has me still twitching. Someone took a pot shot at his niece, few more inches and he would be speaking at her funeral, so sorry to Ade, but she should have left a message and kept calling him. Good lord, he was going to find out anyway. How do they think that made him feel? They'll say they didn't want to worry him, if it was me, I would take it as not being important enough to know about it. I'm trying not to go there with Ade running the show the way she sees fit again, I really am, but sometimes.....

Daisynjay

That would be par for the course. Well played, Daisynjay. Well played.

Sara...loved the recap, especially the midnight ride of Pablo Revere. I can just hear old Severed telling Vile..." Hey, trust me. It's easy to shoot someone with no consequences. You're golden, girl. I've been involved in a couple murders , and nothing ever happens to me."

Vile could have taken a rifle shooting course in college because the basket weaving class was filled. In my rural high school, lots of guys and some girls hunted every year during hunting season..deer, pheasants. A beau taught me to shoot a rifle while we were sitting on his front porch when we were 16. He used to take his rifle along when we went for walks in case he saw a groundhog. I think that everybody I knew had at least one rifle in the house.

I , too, noticed and was grossed out by the bloody white sweater.

Cathyx...Yes, Dom was ticked because Sev and Candy were not home for dindin, but Mel said that neither left the house. QTH ?

OT..Sara, I just found out that a friend of ours recently got a huge tattoo of a snarling tiger on his forearm with "protect" above not. The tatoo artist is a fine arts graduate ..$150.00 an hour . It is amazing..looks !ike a photo. So, me...The class reunion is Sunday , and I have no tatoo. I did not even get the blue chalk for my hair, so all I've got is the blue toenail polish. Meh.

Blue toenail polish and A RAPIER WIT!

Doesn't seem so meh to me. Have fun, Susanlynn!

So much for having Don Camilo as a security guy. First Cris makes it into the house to cut Aldonza's hair, then Sev comes by to almost rape Aldonza again, and now Aldonza gets shot right outside her front door. If Cris were right there to attend to Aldonza, I thought Camilo should have run out to the field to see if he could see who shot her, but no one made a move in that direction.

cathyx, as much as I love Don Camilo, he's more like a butler with a gun. Someone comes up to the security gate and he announces them at the front door. If they're not supposed to be there, he tells them to go away. If they won't leave, he brandishes his weapon.

He doesn't serve drinks or food or anything, I think he's more like a Walmart greeter.

Diva and cathyx-I'm loving your assessments of Don Camilo.

I felt so uninspired by this episode. Which is odd because someone got shot. I'm all kinds of meh about it. There's so little to say about it. I assume this was supposed to be some sort of dramatic episode.

Blergh.

I tuned in last night right as Aldonza was being wheeled past the front desk and the nurse was on the phone. Even then I was like "Eh. She got shot." I guess maybe going back and watching from the beginning sort of took some of the punch out since I already knew it was Valeria.

Sara, I felt the same, as I said in my first comment, the show was a whole lot of nothing.

I think what took the "punch" out was finding out so quickly that it was Valeria. Between that and Aldonza's miraculous recovery (insert eye roll here) not a lot has really changed from the beginning of the episode to the end. Chris might be a little more suspicious, but he hasn't taken any concrete action on that. Padre J will probably have more anxiety than ever before about how much his family needs him, but he hasn't taken any concrete action on that.

Maybe tonight. Which makes this kind of a set-up episode, even though someone got shot.

And I'm going to stupidly interject some realism here, would't Val's shoulder kind of hurt if she had fired a rifle? Or does that go away after you've shot rifles enough times?

Not that it is in anyway important. Just blabbity blabbing over here.

And seriously, her shirt was hideous.

Maybe it's not important, but it's still a nice vengeful thought...that if she's hurting right now she can't say anything or it's going to cast suspicion on her, so she just has to live with it.

I was musing about the show today and I started thinking that before last night, Val was just the spoiled, annoying ex trope. Now she's moving into the more interesting BSC trope.

I'm on the fence about Cande. I've perused the comments. I can easily believe that she's in some serious denial and is going to come crashing down when everything gets revealed. I don't think she really thinks Sev is capable of murder.

So no, I can't see her being ok with Val actually trying to kill someone.

Well, now I feel bad for saying I was tired of the Jr. high Mean Girl routine from her and Cande. But I never meant she should go try to shoot anyone! I guess I should have been more specific. Oh well.

cathyx-I hope we aren't in for 6 weeks worth of a whole lot of nothing. :-(

I thought I saw the shooter (Val) resting the rifle on some sort of rock wall. That's why it looked feasible that it could have been Sever. In any case, Val wasn't holding it with it resting against her should when she shot.

Shoulder, not should.

Vivi, I saw the same thing--resting it on a rock wall, which probably helped with steadying and aiming. Darn, she's probably feeling just fine.

So when one is resting a rifle on a stand the kickback is not a big issue.

I googled "one-armed rifle shooting" just to see if it could be done. I didn't delve to deeply into the results because I was already bored with as soon as they came up. There seemed to be a lot of survivalist kind of results. You, know "you still have to be ready to shoot if your arm is injured!!" I really didn't want that in my browser history.

Sara- You got me curious, so I googled it. Wow. Like a whole different world. A world of testosterone and guns. In any case, yes, it does seem possible to shoot a rifle with one arm if you learn the techniques. I'll file that info away, WAY in the back of my mind.

Wow..just checking in here again after a swim, and hub is asking me "What's so funny?" Kat..Don Camilo's a Butler with a gun ha !!!, and cathyx suggests that he is more like a Walmart greeter. You guys are too funny.

It was odd during the scene with Ren, Al, and Cris . Ren just had a shirt on. Cris was wearing a jacket, and Al had on that ivory colored ski jacket with the furtrimmed hood. She really seems to like that jacket, but she was wearing it when she got shot in the shoulder, so I guess we won't have to see that wardrobe favorite again.

Hey, Goggle rocks, doesn't it ? I am currently doing a lot of Goggle searches for Outlander and author Diana Gabaldon. Fifty Shades of Plaid.

Sweet Baby thanks for the "Who shot JR".......EH.... Aldonza recap. Did val really do it or is she wishing she did it?
I thought sev, well he's trained himself for years to do things why not how to shoot with one arm. This is a man who rapes women with one arm, why not shoot someone with one nasty arm. Or he could have hired someone. Naaaah!!!!! But Vile Is nasty enough to do it too. We'll see, Padre J you got your work cut out for you.

Sara, thank you. I'm still watching the episode so I'll be ready for tonight and will have to come back and read what I know is a bang-up recap and the comments! Thank you, my dear. Haven't been able to play on the patio the way I like lately but enjoy reading the recaps and comments afterwards. Oh, and thank you, Diva, for yesterdays!

What a bull head Aldonza is. She's being wheeled out and her bandage is bloody and she yelped as the rolled over a bump. What the . . .? Anywho, 12 minutes left in the episode. See ya later!

Susanlynn - I am so in love with Google. My students make fun of how much I like to google things. And oh my if I'm reading on my kindle app and can google absinthe sets as soon as I read about them.... Heaven.

We've missed you Lila! I'll be turning off my phone in about an hour and hubs and I are traveling this weekend, so I'll need your recap. Can't wait to read it.
