La Sombra del Pasado #111 (Mx 112) - Wed 7/22 - Love sh-- yeah, not so much

Renato visits Las Animas to harass Sev and Cande for not putting forth any kind of search.  Sev says that if Cris doesn't want to be found, there is no way to find him, which Renato would know if he was familiar with the terrain.

Cris thinks that Aldonza's amorous attentions are proof that if they just run away forever, they can be together.  She insists they can't run forever.  She still thinks Val might be giving Cris the child she'll "never" be able to and it hurts.  Cris gets the impression that the piece of trash who raped her is still around and he has some ass kicking to do.  Aldonza denies it, but says she's engaged to Renato, so Cris backs off.

Renato gets friendly with a bottle of booze and tries drunk dialing Aldonza.  When that doesn't work, he wrecks his desk.  This brings Silvia running.  She tries to calm him down and get him to stop drinking and Renato complains that she's not supporting him the way he wants to be supported.  Silvia goes back to bed instead of indulging his temper tantrum.

Cris is sitting outside in the cold in his wet clothes, insisting he won't come inside, because heaven forbid he sleep on that tiny couch with Aldonza.  They argue about who's more stubborn.  After lots of double-entendre about "sleeping together" he agrees to go inside.  In the morning, they wake up together on the floor.  Aldonza asks him never to leave her, no matter what she says.  Then she pretends to be asleep.

Padre J calls the Bishop to ask for an extension on his transfer because his family really needs him right now.  The Bishop gives him 15 more days, but no more.  Cande hears Padre J's end of the conversation in his office and is in tears at the thought of him leaving town.  She begs him not to do this "to her" because she needs him.  And then…

Seriously, brace yourselves…

I'm not kidding, are you prepared for this…

She snogs him in his office and Sev walks in and sees them

Dudes, I screamed so loud, I freaked out the cats.  It was this horrid mix of disgusted and terrified.  I'm afraid to FF>> through the commercials now.  I don't know what's going to happen next.  I have the fear!

*gulp*  OK, so, after the opening credits, we're back in Padre J's office, where Padre J and Sev trade punches.  Cande gets between them and swears to Sev that it was all her, Padre J didn't do anything!  Padre J is furious at this lack of respect from BOTH of them and throws them out of his office.  He seems to be doing ok, despite the copious amounts of fake blood at his mouth.

Aldonza complains that Cris only brought junk food from the random store in the middle of the forest.  Cris thinks she doesn't need more than him and the mini donuts in the bag to survive.  She whines about needing to go home and insists she doesn't remember telling him to never let her go no matter what.  Their pointless argument ends with Aldonza walking away.

Out in front of the church, Sev and Cade have a very loud argument.  Sev thinks Cande's been having a "relationship" with Padre J.  She dares him to divorce her and end up with nothing.  He raises his hand to her and she dares him to strike her and face the consequences.  "I'm going to tell you what you're going to do.  The same thing I did for the last 20 years, when I found out about you and Roberta.  I kept my mouth shut.  I swallowed my anger.  I pretended nothing had happened.  That's what you're going to do."  Sev threatens to tell Cris, but Cande dares him yet again and says that would be a declaration of war.  My money's on Cande.  I do so enjoy when she pulls rank on him.

Aldonza is the one outside now.  She insists that she does love Cris, they just can't be together.  He brought her to this place that feels like she's in a dream, but she's going to have to wake up and the waking up will suck.  He helps her down from her perch and she asks him to let her go, if he loves her as much as he says he does.  Of course he doesn't want to do that.  Now she goes back inside.  Perhaps to find some pants?

Humberto nags Valeria to follow the doctor's instructions.  Val tells Humberto that after this scare, no worries, she's convinced she wants the baby.  Humberto says he has to let her stay there, because it's too risky to move her.

Don Antonio, Vero, Silvia, and Pato review Em's situation.  There might be some ridiculous amount of bail set, but Don Ant isn't worried.  He'll pay whatever he has to.  Pato thinks Em is getting depressed.  Don Ant agrees Em was born to be outdoors, not locked up like a criminal. Which is unfair, because they ALL know who the real criminal is.  Pato says Sev has lots of influence, but Silvia says that won't stop them from fighting for Emmanuel.  Vero knows that part of Em's depression is because of Lola.  Silvia says they know her.  In fact, Pato's going to marry her.  Vero would like to meet her.  Oh kaaaaay.

Mel and Lola are back home and no closer to figuring out what happened to Simoneta.  Oh, and BTW, she's marrying Pato.  Cara de impactada de Dominga.

Pru calls Mari to ask Mari to visit Val at Las Animas.  She agrees, not terribly enthusiastically.

Dominga wants to know why Lola didn't tell her sooner and Lola makes excuses.  She runs out of there to go to the merceria.

Sev calls Jacinto and Mudo to ask why the vet didn't check out the "yeguas" (mares).  Apparently the vet called Mudo's cell phone and since Mudo can't talk, he didn't answer.  Sev, having skipped diversity awareness training, rudely asks why Mudo has a cell phone.  Well, you narrow-minded jackass, he texts people.  "Next time, answer him with a text" Sev orders, before telling them to beat it and muttering that they're idiots, trying to mock him.  Humberto comes out of Sev's house and they exchange unpleasantries.  Humberto demands to be called the next time Val needs a doctor.  "Doctor?  Didn't you once leave a woman sterile?"  Humberto reminds him about Padre Sixto, if they're going to compare crimes.  "Who even remembers that old guy?"  Sev suggests Humberto worry about the health of his daughter and grandchild. Humberto says he'll do that, and in the meantime, Sev can go to hell.  "Hell's mine, bro," replies Sev.

Cande is in tears about Padre J leaving town.  Domgina is, understandably, confused on many levels.  She says that's the life of a priest.  He's already been around for a while.  Cande weeps about how she has to do something because she neeeeeeeeds him.

Lola gives Irma an update about her search for Simoneta.  She thinks either something happened to her or she just plain left again.  Irma says Lola will recover in time, and in the meantime, Irma will be there for her.  Silvia and Vero come into the merceria.  Just as Silvia is introducing Vero as Emmanuel's fiancee, Mari walks in.  Vero is oblivious to the eye daggers hitting her from all directions.

Melesio has the cutest little horsie and there are hearts in my eyes and squeeeeeeeeee!  Mr. 5ft says I can't have one.  But, but, but, it's so small!  We could totally fit it in the house.  Mel hands the fuzzy little cutie off to Omar.  Bye, bye, mini-horsie :(  Don Camilo came to tell Mel that he's decided to go search for Aldonza.  Mel agrees nothing good is going to come from this escapade.  And he feels a little guilty that this was the result of all his advice to Cris.  If they won't come home, he'd at least like to know they're ok.  Don Camilo wants to borrow a horse for his search, so Melesio suggests they use one of the workhorses.

Silvia and Irma agree to drag Mari away so Lola and Vero can talk alone.  Vero gives Lola the once-over and says she thinks she's pretty and looks like a nice person.  She smiles as she says Lola's the one who's got Em all crazy.  Lola swears there's nothing going on between them.  "He told me.  Because of Mari, right?  The girl who was just here.  Well, she's pretty too, but she's got a face like a harpy."  Lola's ready to tell Vero what HarpyFace is really like, though she doesn't believe that Mari orchestrated the whole San Miguel incident.  "You're telling me you believe her over Emmanuel?"  Uh, when you put it that way.  Vero says just by looking, you can tell what kind of girl Mari is and come on, doesn't Lola know Emmanuel better than that?  "Hey, whose side are you on?!"  Vero says she's mostly on Em's side.  She knows she's not competing against Lola because Lola is marrying Pato.  She also knows that if Emmanuel is in love with Lola there's nothing she can do.  It would be a waste of her time.  She's not after anything in particular, she just wanted to meet the girl who won the heart of such a great guy as Emmanuel.  And, hey, since she doesn't know anyone in town, maybe they can be friends.  Cara de "Are you for real?" de Lola.

Cande comes into the church to cry some more about how she's losing Padre J forever.  "No, you lost me a long time ago when our paths separated.  And I don't just mean emotionally, but the way we see life.  I decided to dedicate my life to God and you keep growing farther from Him every day.  You know you're not a good Christian.  How can you say that when because of your resentment, you've taken it out on my niece and your son?  I know exactly who she's the daughter of, but what her mother did isn't her fault.  You don't know how sorry I feel for you.  I can't help it.  Part of my worry about leaving Santa Lucia is because of you.  I can see that you don't have peace and I'm sorry I haven't been able to do anything to help you find it.  My cycle here is finished and I'll have to start over somewhere else.  God bless you, Candela, and may He help you find the peace you need."  With that, Padre J is gone and Cande cries some more.

Cris wanders around calling for Aldonza, who apparently took off, rather than just going back inside the love shack.  Cottage.  Thing.

Sev visits Val.  She is bored.  He sits on the bed and pretends to care about her having a healthy baby.  He's sure if Cris knew what was happening, he'd be there with Val.  Sev loves having Val there.  Dominga gets an eyeful of Sev feeling up Val's belly.  Cara de  "I know exactly what you're up to, you lech!" de Dominga.

OK, so maybe he was looking outside for no reason.  Aldonza is inside, huddled in her poncho/blanket, sweating, and shivering.

Dominga coughs and says she would have knocked, but the door was open.  She brings Val some breakfast.

Aldonza apparently found her pants and shoes and Cris helps her down the front stairs.

Dom Camilo starts following some horse tracks on a dirt road.

Vero leaves the merceria and runs into Mari.  Mari tries to make Lola look bad, but Vero ain't buying what she's selling.  When she moves on to dissing Emmanuel, the claws come out. How dare Mari be talking smack about Em!  As if him being in jail isn't bad enough without her trying to kick more dirt on him!  "You got rid of Lola and you STILL couldn't get him.  And do you know why?  Because he looks down on you.  You think you're hot stuff, but the only thing you did was earn his disgust.  Don't try to fool me.  Why are you so jealous of Lola?"  Mari denies it and says it's Lola who's jealous of her.  Vero says Mari can't fool her, 'cause Vero's way worse than Mari.  "If you ditch that jealousy you've got seeping out of every pore, you could be way more attractive.  You'll never be like Lola, no matter how hard you try.  So try being yourself.  Why don't you live your own life.  If you don't, the most you'll ever get is whatever crumbs she leaves behind.  Think about it."  Mari looks like she might, but I don't expect it to last.  Nice verbal smackdown, though…Senior Mean Girl to Mean Girl Wannabe.

Don Camilo looks pleased as he keeps following the tracks.

Aldonza is starting to get delirious, asking Cris to take her back to her mom.  Cris says they're close to Santa Lucia and tries to cool her down with a cloth dipped in the river.

Pato brings flowers and balloons to Dolores, better known by her "hipocorístico" of Lola.  You know, "hipocorístoco" as in "apelativo cariñoso" "sobrenombre" and "apodo"…in other words, her nickname.  Lola thought it was some kind of insult since he wasn't happy with her the last time he saw her.  They apologize to each other.  She admits seeing Emmanuel again did stir up her feelings, but it's over and she loves Pato.

Renato brings Silva an even larger flower arrangement to apologize to his bud for being such a total ass.  He doesn't want to lose Silvia again.  She tells him to work on his temper and gives him a hug.  A…significant hug.

Don Camilo has made camp for the night and runs into the horse thieves.  Or the other way around, really.  They ask to "buy" his horse, but Don Camilo pulls out his trusty firearm and tells the dudes to put their guns on the ground.  He recognizes the horse as Cris' and tells them to go running because Don Sev's people are looking for that horse.  He saw them on the road.  One of the guys says he'll go, but only because Camilo got his gun out first.  Camilo shoots at his feet to encourage him to get moving.

Tomas is working over-over-overtime at the garage and his dad reminds him to lock up when he leaves.  Pru sneaks in, adjusting her rack before…and I'm just guessing here…going in there to remind Tomas of what he's missing?

Cris finds Don Camilo and hands Aldonza off to him, saying they've got to get her back to town and to the clinic.  Don Camilo says he'll explain about the horse on the way.

And, yes, Pru came around looking for some after-hours, uh, maintenance.  Tomas tells her to cover up and get out because he's got stuff to do.  Pru swears she won't let Silvia steal his love.  She won't let someone like him turn her down!  Tomas practically clucks like a chicken as he chases her out and warns her not to do anything to Silvia.

Cris and Don Camilo have apparently teleported directly to the clinic, where Humberto is not.  Much medical flurrying ensues.

Humberto is visiting Val, who is speculating that Pru is off visiting her lover.  Pru just happens to show up, and then Humberto's phone rings and he says he's got an emergency.  "That's always more important than your daughter and I, isn't it?"  Humberto asks if she was with her lover and walks out.

Padre J visits Em in jail.  He reminds him that dreams have a price.  Em thinks if he had it to do over…he'd do the same thing.

Mari has teleported directly to the guest room, sour face intact.  Val whines about how she's been a lousy friend because she's just so stressed.  Mari says she knows Val and Lardo were gettin' it on.  Sev appears outside the door, listening in.  Val wants her to shut up, of course, but Mari continues, saying that Val and Lardo were carrying on before he died.  "Tell me the truth…is the father of that baby Cristobal or Abelardo?"

Like we didn't see THAT coming from a mile away. Next time, Cris, just book a hotel suite. And for the hundredth time...MOVE OUT ALREADY!

Hey, so, the whole point of this little kidnapping/not-so-lovey shack was...what, exactly?

(Yes, I realize I'm talking to myself.)

Thanks Kat! LOL! So true. He should also remember to pack some antibiotics if his lady love has recently been shot. Some people could really benefit from making a packing list before they go on a trip.

No nookie in the love shack, but they got a good cuddle, a few smoochies, and half a conversation about their real problems.

Thank you, Don Camilo for bringing those two crazy kids home (and their horse). Lord knows they can't survive without close supervision.

Thank you, Vivi! Thank goodness for Don Camilo! If he hadn't shown up, they might have ended up running into the two horse thieves again.

Val and Mari are mean girls, but Vero is obviously a queen bee. A queen bee can see the game being played because she made the fricking rules. She can also choose to break the rules whenever she wants, and choose who she wants to be nice to, or not. Lola is in. Mari is out. Both have been called out by the queen bee. I don't want Vero to get hurt by Eman, but she seems to have a very healthy and realistic attitude about being with someone who wants someone else.

When I got back from vacation recently, I visited one of my bffs who had had surgery recently. She was feverish, hurting, a bit delirious, and wrapped up in blankets like Aldonza, and refused to go to the emergency room. We go in touch with her doctor, and he told us she HAD to go to the emergency room. She ended up being hospitalized for four days while they got her infection under control. It was scary how quickly she deteriorated, but once they got the new antibiotics is her, she bounced back quickly.

I like Vero! I like that she doesn't play games. Well, giving Em a gluteal rub and sneaking into his bed notwithstanding. She's honest and she talks to people and she listens to what they have to say. Vero for protagonista! Why do we always seem to have characters like this who come in at the last minute to sort of fix things. No fair!

I guess it's a good thing Aldonza got to the "too delirious to argue" stage quickly. I'm anticipating some obnoxious behavior in the hospital waiting room as everybody lines up to tell Cris how this is all his fault. Not that I'm saying I wouldn't be in that line.

Diva, thank you, just thank you! Super great recap, and I'm still laughing.
"Dudes, I screamed so loud, I freaked out the cats"...yes I had the exact same reaction when Cande grabbed Padre by the ears and laid a big wet kiss on him. Yikes!

I also loooovd the mini horse, but it looked like the animal playing the mini horse was quite stressed out. But that's just me (I was one of the ones always whining about how they treated "Principe" on TSTSNBN. They didn't even give the poor kitty a happy ending, he just faded out of the plot).

Vivi--story about your friend was pretty scary, I guess those relapses can happen pretty fast. Glad she is okay now.

Seems like Mary has the upper hand as the Head Mean Girl, now that Val is shall we say "laid up". Ooh, I want to thank Vero for wiping that sneer off Mary's face. Wonder if Vero will be one of the players in "Finale Romance Roulette"?

J in Oregon

Diva, thank you for the recap- I was not going to watch the episode but I can't say no to seeing a pony.

I'm glad someone called Mari out, I just hope to see someone pull her pony tail really, really hard!

Good morning Kat and what a great recap. Love the title...

And agree, the whole point of that episode was again to have the lovebirds declare love, but Allie is still not in a good place mentally and Sonce again Cris is confused with only getting some quality hug time. Someone, anyone, get this girl some much needed assistance with dealing with all she's been through.

But did enjoy the verbal smackdowns last night. Vero is my HERO! No Mean Girl to me, she just tells it like it is to the clueless. Of course, it only confirmed to me that Lola has no business being with Eman in the end because she STILL didn't get a brain recharge after that conversation. I think Pato has a few brain cells ticking though...he seemed to be putting two and two together after her statement of seeing Em.

And the Mari confrontation--that was enjoyable to see. Loved Vero clipping her off at every attempt to speak. Now someone make sure that Vero gets something positive out of all this. If it isn't E-man, it better be something good.

Whatever with Cande's antics. Another one that didn't seem to leave the high school bully and mean girl antics behind. That kiss was just stupid, but it got us a good PJ tell it like it is moment. Wanna bet it doesn't do any good?

Setting up the Ren/Silvia again are we writers? The requisite "meaningful hug". but can I say, this may be a "backwoods" town in everyone's thinking, but dang, they have one hell of a florist in that place that can pull together some of those bouquets we've seen touted around in this show. Just sayin'.

Well, guess we'll be watching Val trying to talk her way out of her latest big mouth mess (clue girl: shut it when the door is open). She has to weasel out to the master--one snake to another. Should be interesting.

Daisynjay

Gracias, Kat. I'm finally caught up.

Here's the dope on Miniature horses. They certainly are cute.

The whole Love Shack thing is obviously a delay until we get to the end. There are still 25 episodes to go. I was hoping that when Aldonza almost spilled the beans that she finally would, but it is too early for Cristobal to find out the rapist's identity. in the hierarchy of Sev's many crimes that is clearly the worst in terms of Cristobal and Aldonza's relationship.

The murder of Padre Sixto and the attempted murder of Padre Jeronimo is what will completely finish him with Candela. I love how she got on his case.

I am wondering what Sev thinks he's going to do about Mari knowing that Vile's bun is Abelardo's. She deserves an anvil, but not death. Her fate should be that she plays second fiddle to a grandchild for her parents after Vile's anvil hits her.

This is from the other night but Prudencia deserves more than the smack-down Adelina started. Several locals heard every word and it's high time Pru was publicly humiliated for her slander of Aldonza.

More later.

Somebody else had commandeered the TV when I got home from work last night, and I missed the gem, but loved your re-telling.

"Pru walks in adjusting her rack......after-hours, uh, maintenance" and
"much medical flurrying ensues" Wonderful descriptives. And I do hope this episode recorded because I'm dying to see that scene (Cynthia Klitbo has been awesome in this role) but also, of course, want to see Candela smooch the good Padre.

Cats seem to be at high-risk during telenovela time. As I remember Daisynjay terrifies her cats with her reactions from time to time as well.

David...Hope you're recovering from a session with two 4-year-old terrorists. My grandson is a 7-year-old terrorist, and like all 7-year-olds, travels in a pack of young males. Sigh...he was such a sweet baby...

Diva, thanks again for a rollicking recap. My withdrawal symptoms are now under control and I can head off to work with a clear mind.

Gracias, Diva! In addition to already stated quotes, I add the following grams (shout out to JudyB! I haven't used the word gems in too long!)

"Humberto comes out of Sev's house and they exchange unpleasantries."
"Cara de "Are you for real?" de Lola."
"Cara de "I know exactly what you're up to, you lech!" de Dominga."
"Now she goes back inside. Perhaps to find some pants?"
"Mari has teleported directly to the guest room, sour face intact."

Whoo! What an episode! I LOVED it. Between Don Camilo's John Wayne moment and Vero's owning both Mari and Lola, I was squeeing with glee (shout out to Diva for squee!) Man! Those two get the gold. Love how Don C thinks on his feet. He's got that nice calm demeanor, but he'll shoot you between the eyes and forty paces. Plus, his lies were totally convincing. Ah Cris. Learn lessons, my friend. That's how you get rid of horse thieves.

Vero. Oh Vero. Thank heaven for Vero! She was ON POINT! Love everything about her speech (ok, the "you just have to look at her" part rubbed me a little bit the wrong way, but when Mari's got her bitchface on, it's true). Love how she channeled the Patio's frustration: " "You're telling me you believe her over Emmanuel?" ...come on, doesn't Lola know Emmanuel better than that?" YEEEESSS!!! WKR! Love that Lola had that moment of thinking "Uh, when you put it that way" because DUH, you idiot. Where's that faith in the love of you life thing people are always going on about, remember?

When did Mari find out Val is pregnant? Was that cut out? OR are we to assume that since it's all around town, she just heard about it?

Wow. Wrote grams, meant gems. Wrote and, meant at.

Thank you, Kat! I missed the first 10ish minutes and tuned in right as the punches started flying in Padre J's office.

I thought "medical flurrying" was a perfect description.

Somehow I missed the mini horsey. I'll have to go back to see it. He sounds darling.

Vero is awesome.

Sorry for comment bombing the Patio today.

So Cris and Aldonza make something like an inch of progress and then, of course, one of them almost dies? Typical.

I appreciated their outdoor conversation and the fact that Aldonza explained what it is about the baby that's really torturing her: her inability to do the horizontal tango without flashbacks and panic attacks. But seriously? Those TWO LINES are all we get? They gave us all kinds of bickering and wordplay and foolishness and they couldn't work in an entire scene's worth of them laying their problems out? W.T. F!!!!!! I could seriuosly bash the writers' heads together right now.

Also, when I saw Aldonza walking around outside without pants or shoes in a torn blanket while Cris was in his giant parka, I was like, "oh lord. Here comes the fever the Patio foretold in the ancient time of Monday night."

Also, sometimes I REEEEALLY don't get some of the little, negative details the writers DO include. For example, why did Cris only get junk food? That detail only serves to make him look dumber. Especially because we did see the food stand and there was clearly a bunch of fruit in it and because they weren't even going to eat much of the darn food in the first place, so seriously, why?

Hoenstly, if they weren't outside, I expected Candela to say "It was one kiss! You have TWO illegitimate children from two different women RIGHT NOW and you're freaking out about a kiss?! Shut up! Just shut the h*** up!"

Back on Vero, it was nice that they included the bit about Vero telling Mari to be herself. She really got her number for someone who's only seen her a total of 4 minutes. Much better than Pato, Lola or Eman. Vero for president!

I did have a horrible thought about her though: I was thinking - what if Sev is Vero's dad? I KNOW! I KNOW! He can't have fathered every fatherless child and that would mean that Vero has rubbed all up and over Eman's beautiful body and kiss him full out, but still the thought came into my head so I had to bring it to the Patio.

Oh Kat you just kill me. Thanks

"squeeeeeeeeee! Mr. 5ft says I can't have one...Bye, bye, mini-horsie :("

"Cris and Don Camilo have apparently teleported directly to the clinic"

Thank you Veronica and very sorry, not for you, but the village idiot Emanuel, idiot because he cannot appreciate you.

I really enjoyed Veronica telling Mari she thinks she hot snot but really cold buggers on a paper plate. I want Veronica and Silvia to be friends.

Can't believe what they are doing to Renato, I get telling the popo but to go to Severiano for help, ugh?

The sound emmitted when Cande kissed PJ was high pitched but surprised even myself the pitch as Severiano walked in. It wasn't human. I want to thank the TN for setting that up, worth the price of admission.

The whole love-shack, shack-up was depressing. I'm engaged to Renato, come lay with me.

Vivi: "Lord knows they can't survive without close supervision." LOL!

Also, my apologies Vivi; I forgot to bold your name in a shout out post yesterday. I bolded everyone else, don't know why I missed yours, but just wanted to apologize.

Kat, another fantastic recap.

"Renato gets friendly with a bottle of booze and tries drunk dialing Aldonza", "He seems to be doing ok, despite the copious amounts of fake blood at his mouth" and "Sev, having skipped diversity awareness training" were all fabulous.

So, who was more surprised by the kiss? Padre? Sev? Or, the patio?? It was rather pathetic and sad. But it struck me that somewhere, buried deep down inside, Cande does have some remnants of a heart and still has the ability to love...as deluded as it is.

Kat, I also fell in love with the “cutest little horsie” – what a little love.

Little frustrated that Lola still can’t muster up the truth: “She admits seeing Emmanuel again did stir up her feelings, but it's over and she loves Pato”. Ummm, she doesn’t.

Best moment for me was Renato bringing Silvia the flowers. There is no doubt in my mind now that these two are meant for each other. He is so entrenched in his delusional pursuit of Aldonza though, it will take a miracle to dissuade him from this tragic path.

Vivi, what insightful comments about Vero. Yes, the queen bee who deigns who will be treated however she likes. True, she is honest but I didn’t care for her initially and I still don’t. I can see I’m in the minority here - perhaps she is a higher class mean girl, but one all the same, with too much power for her own good.

Dom saw exactly what Sev's intentions are toward Val. And they were anything other than father in law like. Ack.

Stellar Kat.

Diana

Vero said to Mari the reason she couldn't be fooled by her game was she had played the game herself and was very good at it. She had been there and wrote the book.

Tofie - meaning, she used to be a Queen B Mean Girl, Class 1 but had since retired, yes? I caught the meaning last night, but not the tense, but I don't get the mean girl vibe off of her currently, so I'm assuming this is a past thing.

thanks so much , Kat, for that bouncy recap. I missed this episode , so I especially appreciate it . We are going on a little road trip, so I will miss tonight's episode as well, and I will be happy to have the recap to catch me up to catch up on the action or lack there of .

Has anyone kept track of how many times Al has been hospitalized? I think that Michelle was just not up to this job. Maybe she is just too young to depict the angst of this character. I wonder what Thelma (Val) would have done with the role of AL. The girl playing Vero might have been able to pull it off. But then again, the writers have not helped the development of this character.

I am sorry that I missed Don Camilo meeting the horse thieves. He is my favorite character...the tn muscle.

I am also disappointed that I missed Vero confronting Mari...with the truth. ...ouch. I wish that she had said something about the ponytail. However, I do not think that either Mari or Lola deserve nice guys like Em and Pat. Vero should get both of them.

have a good day, all. Nice weather here today...no humidity, sunny.

Good morning, 5ft. This was just a rollicking trip, and you covered it with your usual wit, insight and splashes of cold water in the face. Wait! I thought Mr. 5ft was an understanding man, but now we find out that he won't let you have a pony?

I think the reason Aldonza was running around without pants is because, behind her back, Cris is repeatedly dipping them in the toilet tank, then telling her, "No, sorry, they're not dry yet."

I wanted Cande to be the one who silently approached the open door and heard that Val's baby probably isn't Cris's. With Sev being the one who heard it, what explosive, violent direction are we going to veer off into? He doesn't seem to play well with others.

My oldest son, who served two tours in Iraq, has a green T-shirt that says, in English and Arabic, "Infidel." Sev needs a T-shirt like that.

Oh, man! Veronica: A voice of sanity amidst the thrashing around of idiots. I am mildly surprised that Cassandra hasn't been given a staring role in some story.

Renato getting drunk, picking on Silvia, and trying to ally himself with Sev was a real downer for me.

Don C's horse repo scene was one of the highlights of the evening. The Santa Lucia city limits sign should say, "Santa Lucia, pop 2567, Home of Don C."

High, JudyB. The trouble with twins is that what one doesn't think of, the other one will. I didn't realize you had a 7 year old, and you're right, at about that age, they begin to see broader worlds than grandma and grandpa.

Thanks again, 5ft. This just hummed from the start to the finish.

David

Susanlynn: Oooh, Don Camilo--I know! Just a good old boy, direct and straight-shooting. Who can we set him up with?

Also re: Lola, I wish Eman had thrown in her face how she never believed in him when Mari told that lie about being "with" him in San Miguel. That was the basis of the whole E-lola breakup and it is so sad that he has just accepted it.

J in O

J in O: YES! I want both Eman and Cris to throw the lack of faith down on the table and ask those girls "shall we talk about THIS?"

Thank you Diva for another great, enjoyable recap. Love your wit and take on everything.

I found that the only way I can get thru La Sombra now a days is to fast forward past the commercials AND any parts that have Cris and Aldonza. I know the story is all about them, but so wearing to watch the same old same old every day.

Am definitely in the Vero/Silvia camp and even rooting for Lola.

Another cup of coffee on the patio and then get the day going. Good to see the peeps this a.m.

Good morning! I'm working my way through the comments now.

Thank you, J in O! I think the mini horse was upset that the stylist didn't arrange his mane quite the way he wanted it and he was told this would be a speaking role.

Thank you, Eli! I think the mini horse makes up for the trauma of seeing Padre J get snogged and punched.

Thank you, Daisynjay! I'll cut Lola some slack since this was only a preliminary consultation with Dr. Vero, but on the next visit, I hope she gives her a serious talking-to about not marrying Pato if she doesn't love him. Pato doesn't deserve that misery. They have had a lot of gorgeous flowers on this show--in arrangements and at one of the early cafe scenes.

Thank you, Urban Anthropolotist! Even without telling Cris the "Who?" there's still a lot more they could have talked about. They do seem to be saving that revelation for last. Thanks for the link :) They are cute, but I guess I can't keep one in the house. Ah, well.

Thank you, JudyB! Have a wonderful day at work, and I hope you do have some juicy action to peruse on the DVR when you get home!

Thank you, HellaShelle! I'm choosing to interpret the whole thing about Mari's looks as meaning the eyes shooting daggers and the mouth that looks like she just sucked on a lemon, but I agree that was initially a "Wait, what are you trying to say?" moment. I think Mari just found out about Val the previous day, right before Pato called her to go out. I thought I could see her doing some mental math, but she got distracted by Pato's invitation.

Thank you, Sara! Look for Mel in the stables. I think he's only there once today.

HellaShelle, sometimes it's best to let the horrible thoughts out in order to dismiss them :) I hope Don Antonio tells his story soon, to put any residual fears to rest! I agree with you about how much time was spent in that cabin and all the dialogue was wasted going in circles and never getting anywhere. I think it was made maybe the tiniest bit more clear that it's not only that Val is having the baby Aldonza "may never have" (which bugs me to no end to hear her say that) but also that since Val's having Cris' baby it means she'll always be around. Who wants to put up with that?

Oh, Judy...so wonderful to see your comments, and remember how I have traumatized my furballs in the past. They have definitely smartened up with this TN...they hear the theme song and for some reason I see their little furry selves slowly walking out of the room.

Suanlynn, interesting point about Michelle and this role. I have liked her for the most part in the show, but lately, and the Shack Scene seemed to illustrate this, her confusion and trouble in what she wants versus the trauma still plaguing her doesn't quite come off. To me,was she that clueless on how she was dressed and what that must have been doing to the guy? (could take said blanket and create a skirt out of it maybe?) It came off as being a tease, then shutting him down. And I cannot believe for a second a young woman still in trauma over a rape would act like that. Maybe I'm wrong, but it was all kinds of weird the way it was written and directed.

And Cris is starting to be written for the most part, with only bursts of spine, as a befuddled suitor who somehow still can't get the message his parents are his biggest problem and maybe he needs to strike out on his own and out from under their thumb.

Maybe they all need to hear that line Vero threw out about being true to yourself.

I do get that Vero was someone who "played the game" herself once, but I think she is cognizant of what she is and what she had been, like she told Mari. The problem with Mari and Lola, and to some extent Allie, is that they don't always see in themselves how they are treating the men in their lives, especially Lola. I can't deal with that puppy face anymore every time she blows off E-man and than cries about her lost love.

Daisynjay

Thank you, tofie! I'm glad I wasn't the only one making frightening noises during that scene. I don't know what the point was of Renato going to Cande and Sev. Maybe he'd started the drinking already. I don't think he honestly thought that if they weren't off their asses already that somehow his lecturing was going to motivate them.

Thank you, Diana! I do like Vero, but yes you are right, she is a Mean Girl (or a Queen Bee, as Vivi put it) and she herself admits it. She just happens to be using her powers for good and not evil. I wonder how often now Dominga will find excuses to go into Val's room.

tofie, yes, that's what Vero said. She's the pro at this little game Mari's playing. Hellashelle, I don't know if anyone ever really retires from the game, she's just using those skills a little differently nowadays.

Thank you, Susanlynn! Enjoy your trip! They did give Michelle quite a huge task and not enough support in the script, I'm with you on that. She's trying, but there's only so much she can do with what she's been given.

Thank you, David! Well, in fairness, I did suggest the mini horse could live in the house, so maybe that's what he was objecting to...yeah, that must have been it. I didn't realize until Sev looked so very interested that he doesn't already know who the father is. I think he was just getting around to asking Val when he overheard her conversation with Pru, but he had that convenient appointment he had to rush to. When they talked later, he didn't ask her, they just formed their evil alliance and moved on. I would think if he were that interested, he would just ask, but it seems to have slipped his mind.

Thank you, emeraldrose! If I can save you from having to listen to a copy/paste of the same argument they have every time they're together, I have done my good deed for the day.

Daisynjay, I'm not as bothered by her wandering around in a shirt, if that's all she could get in the way of dry clothes, as I am by the fake-sleep-talking. If that was meant to convey that she's confused and doesn't see how this is all going to work, but wants to try, but is having difficulty because of her trauma, it failed miserably. Instead she comes off like someone who's being deliberately manipulative, which a "good" character isn't supposed to be. I should not have to work this hard to justify her actions! That's the show's job.

Actually, now that I read over what I just wrote, "she's confused and doesn't see how this is all going to work, but wants to try, but is having difficulty because of her trauma," I think I can strike the "wants to try" part. This is a big part of the problem. She's overwhelmed by what happened, can't figure out how to deal with it other than "get my land back," can't fathom how a relationship with Cris--plus Valeria constantly hovering in the background and the world's worst in-laws--could possibly work...but what she keeps saying is "This is just too much and I can't deal with it, and I don't WANT to deal with it." And that's fair...but Cris won't leave it alone.

Agree with your assessment of Aldonza Kat but it shouldn't, as you note, take us this much work to get there. I have for quite sometime placed the blame on the actress and her inability to convey what this part requires. You could do it Kat, why can't she?

I don't know if I could do it. Of course I'd like to think so, but I'll never know. Partly, I think she's struggling with the script itself, and I don't know how tight the schedule is, but it doesn't seem to me like anyone has taken the time to work with her on this. Plus, trying to put yourself in Aldonza's place and imagine what it would feel like to be her is a very scary prospect, and not necessarily something that is easy to do and possibly also not something that feels safe to do without the right support, and maybe not even something that is appropriate for a director to ask for if they don't have the skills or the time to get an actor to that place of empathy + control + being able to convey that to the audience. Ideally, we need ALL of those things for a good performance, and when they're out of balance, we notice and it reads as "bad acting."

My suspicion is that Michelle is shying away from putting herself in Aldonza's place because it's too scary/she doesn't feel safe doing it. It looks to me like she's trying really hard to "act" instead of feeling.

Then they should have hired someone that can. This part, I agree, is challenging and not the run of the mill pretty girl in cute clothes role we often see. I don't hate Michelle but think she is waaaaaaay over her head here and miscast. This role could have made her a sensation.

I find myself blaming the script, of course, but also the direction. I think Diva is right in that Aldonza as a character seems a lot more tormented and confused than we're seeing. Michelle's portrayal doesn't always have the complexity I think a lot of us are looking for. That's where I think direction is lacking. The script isn't giving us the words, so we have to imagine the implications for ourselves, whereas if the directors were doing that, they could tell Michelle that it might help if she didn't go from haughty, self-righteous fury to immediate smirk, but softened it into a begrudging, reluctant smile. They could make things more obvious. For example, when she woke up and spoke to Cris, they could have left her half-asleep, half-thinking so that her words didn't seem like clearly thought out then hastily snatched back temptations. Or they could've made it clear that she thought Cris was asleep when she was talking. The way they did it instead is almost bizarre in that it makes her look like a child or simply foolish.

There are probably some actresses who keep getting stuck in the "best friend" role who could have done a better job, but weren't considered because they don't have "the right look."

HellaShelle, I think it's worse than not asking her to try it differently...I think she's being TOLD to do it like this. Just my gut feeling.

Diva - Thank you for the fun, snarky recap. You've outdone yourself with this one.

I just loved Don C because he is such a team player, when he told Mel, 'I don't care what kind of horse, just give me something with four legs'. My kind of guy!

Vero's verbal smackdown to Mari was great. And as always, with Mari, it went into one ear and out the other.

Has Vero met Pato yet? Perhaps she'll be paired with him, except Vero is too strong a personality for Pato.

Or .... I could see a Vero-Tomas pairing.. She's got the cojones to whip him into shape. THAT could be fun.

And I might say, this episode was better than Sharkando 3.

Think you nailed it, they were going for "the right look" and a shame. I'm watching Fabiola Guajardo in Yo No Creo En Los Hombres now. Her character is horribly emotionally and physically abused by her mother (couple days ago the mother bit her twice on the face) whom has groomed her since childhood to seduce an influential judge as part of a revenge plot. My god, Fabiola is killing it but when I saw she was in YoNo all I saw was tight, short dressed, shrew Bridgette from DQTQTQ. Point is Fabiola sold both.

Well, if Telerisa did not hire Michelle to be Aldonza, who else have they got?

Maite Perrone? Spare me.

They've also got Altair Jarabo, but she seems to enjoy playing antagonistas and the better salary those roles bring.

Thank you, doris! Don Camilo was back in badass mode last night. Much better than butler-with-a-gun. Vero met Pato briefly at the meeting to discuss Emmanuel's status. He didn't look thrilled with the idea of Vero meeting Lola.

tofie, that's nice to hear that Fabiola is overcoming her Brigitte rep...she did do a good job with Brigitte, in that I think the character could have easily been one-dimensional, and she played up the inner conflict, even though she always made the wrong-est most annoying choices she could!

doris, it pays better to be a bad girl? Sign me up!

Diva - well we've all seen the sofa pillow that says,
"Good girls go to heaven.
BAD girls go everywhere."

:-)

Kat, you made a great point about an actor fully immersing into their character versus just playing the character. I give kudos to the producers to try and bring us some fresh faces in the leads, but in the Aldonza role, it might have been wise to go for someone either thru testing or experience could handle how the character was needed to come across. I love seeing someone, and Alexis and Alex S. come to mind, who can tell more in their looks and expressions than any dialog can give them to say. Not quite sure Michelle is there yet. Heck, you just have to think back to how Susanna gave us Roberta with all it's complexities to know what perhaps should have been considered for the role of the daughter.

What's sad is thinking maybe this did her a disservice by the producers to give her this, or a mistake on her part if she knew what she was getting into, that could hurt career options in the future.

Who could have done it...good lord agree on no to Maite. Every head tilt would have sent me screaming, not a big fan of Ana Brenda either. Most of the best actresses are getting too old for these parts. And though I do like Angelique B, not sure on this part. For once I would love casting agents to throw out "the look" and in these parts get someone who has a natural beauty (and not the model, big boob version) and we could love the heck out of.Someone like a Gina Rodriquez from Jane the Virgin on U.S. television.

Daisynjay

The actresses name escapes me, but Hilda on AcT is kind of good. In AcT she is a heffa and annoying as hell, but this week she played BSC and innocent victim rather well. She's got tough down pat. I don't think she's ready for the Aldonza role, but she's an example that there are actresses out there.

Maybe Ariadne Diaz. But ugh I don't like her.

I don't like Adriadne either much but was really surprised how well she did in La Malquerida but there were some awesome performances in that one. Only thing, I don't think Pablo Lyle could have been enough for her head to head. Perhaps that is part of the problem.

That's why I thought of Ariadne. The performances in La Malquerida were very good.

And yes, we also have a kind of bland galan as well. Brandon Peniche should have been in this role.

And you know, in 2011 I would have said Livia Brito because she was so good as Fer in Triunfo.

Heck yes and I've said this a bunch, Brandon is a guy I flat didn't like until La Malquerida and he shut me up. I wonder why he never gets a lead.

tofie, that's a good point. You can't cast Pablo opposite, let's just say for grins, Susanna...can you imagine the disaster of him trying to match her intensity?!

sara, you bring up Ariadne, who I don't hate, but she, like Maite, relies too much on stock facial expressions for any of the not-so-shiny-happy feelings.

Daisynjay, doris, I agree, Maite would have been a disaster in this role.

Well, we know Brandon can handle the "OMG, my effin' PARENTS" part of the Cris role.

Honestly, I feel like secondary characters get better stories they can sink their teeth into. That's not really the case here, but I can see where an actor may prefer the secondary role if it means more meat to the story.

All right folks, let's just take the Maite bashing down a notch. Some of us with questionable tastes find her head tilts charming. Lol.

(Offspring loves Maite so I have a soft spot for her too.)

I don't dislike Maite. I think she would have made a very cute Lola...but not an Aldonza.

Now I will say that I can't see her in any role here.

Not even Lola.

I don't know who the fresh new faces are out there now, but I think Michelle could handle it better if she weren't being constrained by lax direction and a ridiculously wasted script.

What about Wendy Gonzalez? I saw her as the whiny sister in Sortilegio and I didn't think I could get the sour taste of that character out of my brain, but she helped balance it out as the best friend in CME.

Ooh! Or Mariana Van Rankin?

Gina Rodriguez would be a great Aldonza but she would have insisted on getting post rape counseling and the director would have fired her.

Really, Captcha verification? I had to click on a BBQ sandwich because you think it's a hamburger? Gah

Hmmmm, Mariana Van Rankin could have done it

La Diva, nice recap girl, interesting stuff.
And the reason for the kidnapping was to get our hopes up, witch made mine sore just to be dashed, as usual. This happens with Soaps and tns all the time. With these two (ally and cris) its up and down all the time. Now that's my guess, I could be totally wrong.:-D
I loveed the way vero dressed down mari. Looks like her" been there done that" speech left her closed mouth and befuddled. And mari is a pretty girl, she"s just realy dumb.
Padre J, I love a man who gets it. When he decked old sev, I was goin" take off that collar And beat the crap out off him". But you know What? Theres a better way to beat the devil. He'll do himself in, and he's such an idiot, he wont even see it comming. Is that how many More days left, 15? Padre asked for that many. He gave cande a good talkin to, lets hope something sunk in.

Oh, Brandon as Cris. Now I'm sad thinking about how awesome that would have been, though I don't entirely dislike Pablo. But Brandon is one of those guys who can do it with the look. I think he doesn't get those leads because he doesn't have the traditional "lookK for the males-- not enough beefcake or model looks. Frankly, I could do without the extreme beefcake. That has been a bright point in this TN, none of the guys you just picture on the cover of Weighligters Monthly. Those moments with Alex and the horsie...excuse me I need to get some cold water from the water cooler.

Ah well...hopes for another day.

Daisynjay

My .2, I think this would have been better if the Aldi character had been allowed to be stronger or if they had shown us, both in her life in Mexico and in her return to Santa Lucia what she was dealing with mentally, and it would have been awesome to see her seek out professional help.

Also, there are some actresses who should be allowed to be more forceful- I can't think of a better way to put it, for example Angelique Boyer, as sad meek little Elisa in Abismo I wanted to harm her, but in Robo she was at her best when they put her next to Maria and let her unleash on her, she could be a good girl with a spine but I don't buy her as a meek little thing that would allow someone to mistreat her, and casting her as such does her no good.

Preach, sister Eli! I didn't like Angelique in Abismo at all. I didn't see Robo, but I have seen her in Teresa. She was great in that.

Sara, I think she does much better in roles where she can be assertive, yeah, she can play a good girl, but there's a good girl and then there's a punching bag, and in Abismo, she was a punching bag and I did not buy it. Also she was with Zepeda and while he is pretty he's just not a good actor (in my humble opinion)

I don't like that good girl roles tend to mean punching bag. Because IMHO you can be a good girl with self respect who doesn't put up with crap.

Ah, Mr Zepeda. I don't think he's pretty. If he's playing a bad guy he does all right. I just don't buy his good guy.

Sara, yeah Zepeda just does nothing for me.

Sadly we see this a lot in novelas, where the good girl puts up with so much abuse without needing to, it drives me mad! Oh, it's even worse when by the end of the novela they "forgive" the people that have done nothing but cause them harm.

Oh that drives me batty. It just makes them look stupid when they forgive the BSC villains.

Right? Like, dude, this person tried to kill you 8 times, you don't have to forgive them you fool!

I already know I'm going to hell so at this point I might as well go all out- forgiving those kinds of enemies is for chumps. You hold a grudge with those kinds of people.

Sara, we can go to hell together and make a party of it. Why would you forgive someone that tried to feed your babies to rats?

I'll be happy to have you as my traveling companion.

Well, that one thing Al has in her favor. She's not forgiving any of these evil people. Hell, even our priest in this tn doesn't turn the other cheek.

That's true Vivi and I love that. It has been refreshing to see the prota sort of fight back. It hasn't been portrayed all that well (writing and acting), but the spirit is there.

I'll bring the snacks Sara.

Vivi, yes! I'm so happy with Padre J in this, he is for sure a highlight in this mess.

Thanks, Nina! Yep, 15 days.

I have to agree, I saw David Zepeda too many times as a bad guy, and it's difficult to find him believable as a good guy. Although, I've also usually seen the guy playing Don Antonio as a bad guy, and though it took him a while to win me over, he did succeed. So it's not just the familiarity.

I also agree, I'm tired of the "good" girl being a punching bag and "forgiveness" meaning allowing people to keep getting away with crap.

tofie made the comment earlier about finding out in auditions whether the actress was capable of doing the job and I finally thought of what I would do to figure that out...Tell her what's going to happen and ask if she have any questions. Anybody who says "no" is out. Anybody who asks "How are you going to shoot that?" "How does she recover?" and "How is it going to be resolved, since he's the father of my love interest?" advances to the next round of auditions/interviews. Of course that all assumes that I asked the writers the last two questions and got satisfactory answers.

*has any questions

Diva! Thank you girl! I SO love this recap and episode! Sorry to bomb in: I haven't read comments, hope to get to them later. The best thing about this episode:

Melesio has the cutest little horsie and there are hearts in my eyes and squeeeeeeeeee! So did I get hearts in my eyes! Oh, him is so precious!

and

VERO! Yes! Why couldn't we have had HER in this story. Join the ranks of Silvia, Dominga and Irma as Women of Substance with Brains! YES!!

Okay. later!

Thank you, Lila! Mini horse was such a little star last night :D <3

I wish Vero had been around, but then we wouldn't have had the story we did

(...we would've had a better one)

The fact that Satanic Severiano is Cristobal's father is bad enough but we can't lose sight of the fact that Aldonza was a virgin when he raped her. These two facts together demand that Aldonza see a shrink and it wasn't like she couldn't afford it at the time. She also could have found one on her college campus.

Or...is it actually stigmatizing in Mexico to see a shrink?

Rape victims go through all sorts of hellish self-examination and most do it all alone. Could she possibly feel like damaged goods? Does she think it was bad karma because her mother was a prostitute? I can get that she can't deal with the idea of having Sev as a suegro, but in addition to seeing a shrink she and Cris should leave SL with no forwarding address.

How many times have we said that?

The writers clearly didn't do a good job here.

As to shooting schedules, I understand that a week's worth of episodes are shot in five or six days and the scenes are shot out of sequence. So on Monday you could be shooting scenes from all five episodes, for example.

Urban, all those questions you're asking...I don't think the production team thought about them at all. I don't think there was a decision to have her not seek treatment, it just didn't occur to anybody. Sloppy. And, sorry to say, I don't think Michelle ever sat down and said "OK, they're giving me nothing to work with. I've got to come up with my own reasons why my character wouldn't have sought any kind of treatment and just keep those in the back of my mind." Maybe there was no time, maybe she didn't think it was necessary, maybe that's less of a "TV actor" thing to do than a "stage actor" thing to do and I'm just used to thinking like a stage actor.

UA - Rape victims go through all sorts of hellish self-examination and most do it all alone. Could she possibly feel like damaged goods? Does she think it was bad karma because her mother was a prostitute? THANK YOU!!!! Exactly this!!! We've been wondering and calling for this on the patio since the rape and nada! QTHeck, Show?

Diva - I think that process makes sense for all actors but if I had to think of a type of acting/show that Aldonza's emulating it would be a sitcom. Very little character development, emotions are all contained in the immediate time period.

I'm assuming that in the last version of this, El Manantial, the heroine also didn't get psychological help for the rape by her boyfriends father. I wonder how the audience felt about it back then and if attitudes and expectations around this plot device have changed since then. It might not seem strange or out of the ordinary to the target audience that a woman wouldn't seek out help to deal with this.

Just because it's not out of the ordinary doesn't mean it's right. Telenovelas have a long history as PSAs, and this is a big missed opportunity for them to stress the importance of self-care. Instead they're using a traumatic situation as a plot device when it's convenient and ignoring that it happened when it's not convenient.

And if they did think about the target audience and decided that they would accept the normality of not seeking help and did this anyway? Then shame on them for further reinforcing a norm that hurts so many women!

Amen, Kat. ITA. It does seem like Televisa is way more comfortable doing PSAs about adult literacy, than they are about sexual violence and psychological help in their prime time tns.

I was a theatre major and therefore appreciate that theatrical acting has actors going through characters' emotions in their proper chronology, but that this is mostly never something that television or film actors get to do.

Which makes me wonder how much advance notice novela actors get about what will happen to their characters.

All the more reason to have all that character work in one's back pocket--because you know you need to access the emotion at a moment's notice and you don't have the luxury of getting into it from the previous scene.

I have a horrible mental image of Alexis and Michelle heading out of their respective trailers with the script in hand and exchanging an "Oh crap!" look. I really hope that's not how it went down. But if the writers are making stuff up as they go along, who the hell knows.

I feel like they had to have told them that much before they signed on. Plus they probably all watched El Manantial beforehand. They probably had a viewing pool party in someone's personal theatre.
