La Sombra del Pasado, Capítulo 101, 7-7-2015: Shocking amounts of sense displayed

Short of it: The bishop wants to talk to PJ. Aldonza tells PJ that the exhumation’s coming up. Don Antonio freaks out on Eman, but Vero explains what happened and he backs off. Tomás tries to make amends with Hum, who already knows what’s going on! Val goes home, but doesn’t tell Pru what’s really going on. Dom and Mel return to LA. Mari’s going to work for the Dream Team. Aldonza won’t pursue the Val/Lardo theory. She freaks out on her wedding dress and pursues the divorce instead. Cris won’t give it.

Super important question: Is Cris wearing red, Converse-like sneakers when kissing Aldonza in the red dress in the opening credits?

Long of it:

Sense…kind of: Aldonza, giving Val WAY too much benefit of the doubt, but also being surprisingly reasonable in a non-TN way, says that even if she saw Val and Lardo kissing, that doesn’t mean they did anything more than that. She doesn’t want Lola repeating her suppositions either; it would be equivalent to how those witches are always spreading nasty rumors about her. Besides, she only saw them kissing once. Val’s relationship with Cris lasted much longer and was much more serious. Lola still think VaLizard and that zángano(=lazy slacker) may have gotten down and dirty.

Here we go again…Nonsense: Don Toño came to bring Eman an extra blanket because the heat went out, but he can see that E found his own way of staying warm! As usual, the fuming, screaming person currently yelling at Emanuel doesn’t want to hear E’s side of the story (or the girl’s, for that matter). He orders his niece out of the room and orders Eman off of the ranch first thing in the morning!

Sense: PJ and Silvia talk about her love drama. They state the obvious: you can’t force love. Look where it’s gotten Sev and Cande – absolutely nowhere. Then PJ offers some trademark awesome advice: Love yourself first and you’ll find you don’t need to go searching for love; you’ll have more than enough to share.

Sense?: Cris tells Cande he spoke to Hum, who understands his reasons for not marrying Val. Well Cande doesn’t! Especially since Aldonza wants the divorce- Wait. Has she been to see Aldonza? Cris smashes his glass and yells at her to stop bothering Aldonza! He’s the only one that has a right to talk to her about this! But, Cande protests, “I’m your mother!” “Con un demonio!” Cris fittingly replies. (Note: con un demonio(=with a demon) is just an expression of excessive frustration, like “Devil take it!” in English. Cris hasn’t actually discovered he’s the sweet angel baby of Satan and Despair.) Cris tells her stop meddling in his life. He’ll figure things out the best he can – with or without her approval. (well, we’re getting closer to sense here…)

Sense of humor: Tomás goes after Silvia outside of the church. He flirts, Tomás style, offering to walk her home. Silvia responds with verbal eye rolls. Do gentlemen like him always hit on women in churches? Hey, when the devil gets in you…Ah, so since the moment struck, he wanted to aventarse el campanario(=fill the church to the bell stations with his hot air?) The unintentional(?) reference to his near suicide makes Tomás serious for a second. No, he tells her, that was about love. For him, love is life or death. He actually starts walking away, but she asks about it, so he tells her he fell for a married woman and was going to jump, but PJ saved him…They walk off chatting.

Pru’s starting to notice Tomás waning interest in her lack of missed calls. She asks Juana if anyone’s called for her. You mean Tomás, Juana asks. Pru gets all “offended” and tells her not to repeat such things in front of Hum, lest he think “crazy” thoughts.

Sense of foreboding:Lulu tells PJ that the bishop called for him. She forgot because she was so busy thinking about Luis and Pancho (Pancho’s the new boyfriend. Girl gets hers! Guess she’s too busy for Tomás.) The bishop wants to see him tomorrow. He needs to talk to him urgently.

Ren calls home to thank his dad for hosting Aldonza and Lola. Ren asks him to host Flavia at the house and give her a check-up, no charge. No problem, dad says. Ren fills him in on Aldie’s divorce/Val’s pregnancy. Ren’s dad tells him about Aldie’s comment that she could fall for him if she weren’t in love with Cris. Hope springs eternal in Ren’s baby blues.

PJ warns Tomás that Silvia may be out of his league and he should finish his drama with Pru before trying to start a new relationship. He advises Tomás to fess up to his sins with Hum and return, or pay for, the watch he pawned.

Sense of family: Mel and Dom discuss Lola’s comments about her S/V and Sev. They might not like S/V, but if she really is pregnant, Lola should know her half-sibling, right? (Paging Adelina…) Did Sev send her away so no one would find out she was pregnant? (Well…kinda…) Anyway, Mel asks Dom if she wants to go back to LA. She knows it’s a little crazy, but yes. She’s used to her life there and misses it.

Sense of evil optimism:
Cande tells Sev that Mel and Dom are probably coming back, so he better not be a jerk to them. Even if they do support Aldonza and Cris’s relationship, that doesn’t mean A&C’ll stay together, especially since Al’s set on the divorce. Sev can’t believe she buys anything Al’s selling. He’ll only believe it when he sees it (Surprisingly sensible) Right now, he has more important things to think about…like Val and Cris and El Santuario. He’s got a new, calmer strategy now.

Mel and Dom tell Aldonza they’re going back to LA. They thank her for her hospitality and she tells them they always have her support. If things go sideways at LA again, they can always come back.

Sense of (misplaced) pride: The Dream Team needs a secretary and Mari wants to be it! Um, you’re working with me in the shop, Irma reminds her. Yes, but who cares? Re-contract Lola or find someone else. Mari’s dream is to study law! This is the first her parents are hearing about it. Irma’s annoyed by how capricious Mari is, but her “Osito”, Uriel, is in fact, not smarter than your average bear and proudly buys Mari’s sudden desire to be a useful human being.

Over breakfast, Aldonza mentions the same job to newly unemployed Lola, who excitedly rushes off to pursue it (after seeing her granparents).

Sense of justice:Back on the other ranch, Vero explains what really happened to Don Toño. He thinks she’s making it up to keep Eman around. Right then, our poor puppy comes out. He thanks Toño and takes his leave. Toño and Vero stop him right before he gets Solitario. Toño doesn’t believe Vero’s story, but he’ll give her the benefit of the doubt. Eman better respect his house though. Eman hugs him.

Sense of shock: Tomás goes to talk to Hum because he took a jewell from him that must be very valuable for him. You mean my wife? (Whaaaaa?! Cue music screech and cara de excuse me! from me: Hum knows?!) Apparently yes, he knows. While he still wants to knock T’s block off for sleeping with Pru, this is the perfect situation for Hum to get rid of her. He’s tired of her guilt tripping and general foolishness. Tomás is shocked! After all, he actually only came to return Hum’s watch. Hum doesn’t care about the watch and pretty much physically throws Tomás out without even noting it. Hum’s lawyer will be in touch when they need him to tell them about the affair with Pru.

Sense of smell…As in I can smell the BS from here: Mari takes her sob story to Pato: Her mom refuses to allow her to work in the store because Irma’s on Lola’s side. She said a bunch of mean stuff to Mari too. And maybe she’s right; Mari didn’t have the right to get Lola’ fired. And now how will she save for law school? Her dad won’t pay for it. What’s a girl to do? If only there was more work in SL…a secretarial post or something…Pato isn’t a duck, he’s a fish and he is reeled right in. He needs to talk to Ren and Sil, but they need a secretary right there, so why not her! Mari, so surprised, rains kisses and praise all over him. Ren and Silvia walk in on this part.

Sense of anger: Aldi takes her wedding dress out of the bag. She holds it against her as if envisioning herself in it, and smiles…for a second. The smile fades, and the tears start. In slow motion, she sinks to the ground. Furiously, she beats the dress on the ground. “Why?!” Lisset sings out her pain in the background.

Sev is in a great mood. Breakfast is delicious, Cris is starting back to work again and surely, somewhere, someone’s stealing candy from a baby. Actually, more like someone’s stealing a baby from Cande. She has entered the dining room for breakfast and thinks that the only thing missing to complete the family is Val. But alas, servant girl tells her, Val left this morning with her suitcases. Cris thinks that’s great. Cande’s all upset. Sev plays dumb.

Sense of learning: Val’s back in her room, unpacking. Pru wants to know what happened when Cris found out that Val only wants him for money. Val says that’s not true; she loves Cris. She just convinced Sev that he heard wrong and he’s inclined to believe her because otherwise Al and Cris will reconcile. How? Pru pushes. “Mi compadre es un hueso muy duro de roer” (=my co-(god)“parent” is a tough bone to chew). Val is smart enough not to let Pru in on this plan. She just tells her coming home was a better strategy. She was getting on Cris’s nerves, plus her dad offered his support if she came home.

Sense of the future(/yeah right): Adelina comes into Al’s room and sees the wedding dress on the floor. Al is dressed and calm now. She asks Adelina to get rid of the dress for her. Throw it out, give it away, burn it, whatever. She’s done auto-compadeciendose(=wallowing; feeling sorry for oneself). Besides, no one ever died from love. Adelina hesitates a sec, no doubt remembering Ray racing out of that very room, years ago…Meanwhile, Aldi’s refocusing her energy. She’s going to see PJ, meet with Joaq and Ren to check on the farm, then head to the divorce meeting. (Random note: Man, I so wish Renato was Rolando so I could call them Joaq and Rol).

Sense of family: Cris walks into the stables and everyone cheers. Mel comes back and everyone cheers again. Cris hugs him and smiles. Sev hovers in a corner, silently emitting rays of jealousy and hate.

In the kitchen, Tonia eagerly welcomes Dom back too. Cande is all smiles. Dom says that even though she doesn’t deserve it, she loves Cande. Cande beams. Then she sees Lola and relodges the stick up her butt. She tells Dom to make something decent to eat because Tonia’s not great and leaves.  Lola asks if Dom wants to reconsider, but obviously she doesn’t. She gives Lola the blessing and wishes her luck on getting the new job.

Aldonza strolls with PJ. She’s doesn’t care what Cris and Val do, she’s made her decision. PJ calls her noble (really, PJ?), but she, looking in the mirror for once, says it’s not noble. She’s doing what she thinks is best for everyone, but primarily for herself. She tells him about the upcoming exhumation. He wants to be there when they open the casket. (Do they normally do that in front of family though?)

Sense of maturity: Ren takes Silvia for a coffee. She sees through the casual invite: What’s up with Aldonza now? He wants her opinion on his chances, given the divorce and what his dad said. She tells him he might get rejected, but there’s no harm in trying.

More common sense: Joaq tells Flavia that even though they’re done, she can and should see her son whenever she wants.

In family court, Aldi thanks Ren for being there for her and he says it’s his way of showing how much he cares about her. She wishes she felt the same, that she could get Cris out of her heart, but there are things one can’t change. Well, maybe now that she’s getting divorced, she’ll realize all that Ren has to offer. Oh, she already realizes…Well then, Ren asks, why doesn’t she give him a chance? She’s got nothing to lose. That’s true, Aldonza admits. Is that a yes? She’s saying no, when Cris interrupts. He’s glad she’s with her lawyer so he can tell them both at once that he’s not signing the papers. He’s not giving her the divorce. Aldonza protests. She needs to get divorced so she can be with Renato!

Ren and Cris are both shocked (Lord only knows why), but we’ll worry about that tomorrow.

Hellashelle, hate to sound like a recording on a loop but this is awesome.

"the sweet angel baby of Satan and Despair"

"Sense of smell…As in I can smell the BS from here"

Cannot believe I have to wait another day worried about PJ.

Thank you Veronica! Me thinks there is a decent girl under all that playa.

Highly entertained when Cande said the only family they were missing at table was Val.

While I do think Cris and Aldonza should get a divorce and she has every right to be angry and hurt over Cris's sleepover with Val and pregnancy, she again gives Cris a low blow. Damn girl, wait at least till you get out of the courthouse before showing off your new squeeze. Only interest I have in this threesome is if she decides to sleep with Renato to rip Cris out of her heart. Won't happen but I wish.

God, please don't go there with Silvia and Tomas, just stupid.

Why in the world would Renato and Silvia hire either Lola or Mari especially since he sits squarely between the two?

Gracias hellashelle! I will be on the lookout tonight for Cris's shoes in the credits. Tons on awesome lines, but I really liked "Sev is in a great mood. Breakfast is delicious, Cris is starting back to work again and surely, somewhere, someone’s stealing candy from a baby."

As always, your asides and commentary were hilarious.

You always seem to get the episodes where Mari is being stupid.

Forgot to say how much I enjoyed your "sense" theme.

Thank you Hellashelle, sense and nonsense, so true. But I think nonsense wins out.

I now completely don't care about Aldonza and Cris if they are together or not. I even changed the channel when Aldonza took her dress out of the bag and cried. I have nothing left in me to wish them to be together in the end.

I was surprised too about Humberto knowing about Pru and Tomas. When did he learn that? Good on him, though, I hope he divorces her.

I'm guessing the exhumation will be put off for a while again until PJ successfully defends himself for whatever Sev told the Bishop he did.

Are there episodes in which she's not being stupid?

My favorite morning treat with coffee on the patio. Thank you Hellashelle, for an extra special treat you served up this early a.m. I wish I could like Aldonza again, but she is really getting ridiculous. I am glad to see Eman staying on "the other ranch". He deserves a break. And the end for Ser can't come soon enough, but first I want to see Cande catch him with Val in a compromising moment. Would love to see her explode all over them.

And again, am wondering what happened to the gringo. Anyone know?

cathyx, I laughed during the Aldonza wedding dress scene and went and got me a piece of chocolate cake when Adelina poked her head in. She just looked stupid, like it was forced. Don't think that was the vibe she was going for but I didn't believe a bit.

I don't pay any attention to Cris anymore either. Stupid to be sitting there with momma and daddy eating breakfast in that big ole house and limping out to play like he's working.

Good morning, hellashelle. Yet another action-packed recap from your talented mind. I especially liked your play on words "...someone's stealing candy from a baby. Actually more like someone's stealing a baby from Cande."

Well, that pensive look on Aldonza's face when Lola told her of her suspicions about Lardo being the baby daddy didn't translate into any purposeful action.

I think now that the whole point of Dom and Mel returning to Cande's house is that they are on site where the evil radiates from, and they have a newly acquired sense of suspicion about what goes on there.

I was surprised by Hum's response to Tomas. Boy, is Pru going to be blindsided or what?

Well, I guess we are supposed to believe that Aldonza's all-over-the-place emotional swings are due to her conflicted response to the rape. I'm just glad I never dated a girl like that. I wouldn't have known what to do or how to respond.

Oh, great! Mary working at the law office. How much interesting gossip will she find there?

Thanks again, hellashelle, for a great ride through this episode, and for your inventive "sense" theme.

David

Hellashelle, thank you for your alway entertaining recap. I just wish the writers had not pulled this episode out of the recycle bin.

Mari, just go away. Maybe she could break a nail or something and have to stay in bed until this TN is over. It is beyond me how she can keep up with her deceit.

Probre Eman. He is always so appreciative of any affection. Hum deserves an anvil for allowing his mistreatment all of these years.

Rosemary Primera

Thank you Tofie, Sara, Cathyx and David!

I was totally gobsmacked that Hum knew about Pru and Tomas. Good on the show for keeping that under wraps. (and he got really physical there, I was surprised by that too!)

Glad that FINALLY a girl on this show has the integrity not to let Eman take the fall for her dumb acts.

I liked Aldonza's discussion with Lola. I like that she noted the parallels between spouting off about Val and Lardo and people making things up about her (like Hum touching her hand at the cafe). I do wish she would at least give the theory the credence it deserves, if for no other reason than to protect the man she "loves" from being hoodwinked.

Sev seemed tired of Cande in this episode, which makes me REALLY curious to see how he navigates the rest of this TN, especially since he thinks he's getting El Santuario back.

Mari -- sigh. I can't even go there anymore. I just CANNOT wait until she gets squashed. I hope her parents remember EACH and EVERY lie. I'm not even sure why she lied to Pato and said her mom won't let her work in the shop. Isn't it possible that he'll, I donk't know, talk to Irma at some point? And Uriel -- sigh. Idiot.

Good morning, all.

Hellashelle, thanks so much. I just started to read your recap, but I had to stop and comment on Cris being the " sweet angel baby of Satan and Despair." Well said. Now, back to the recap.

Gracias, HellaShelle! I enjoyed getting to read this with my morning coffee. It's difficult to choose, but I think my favorite line was "Breakfast is delicious, Cris is starting back to work again and surely, somewhere, someone’s stealing candy from a baby." That's the one that nearly made me spit my coffee :)

I was surprised, not that Humberto took it so well that Pru has been cheating on him, but that he already knew. Did we know that he already knew? I guess he had plenty of clues, I just didn't expect him to have put them all together. The way some of the "mysteries" on this show are handled, can you blame me?

I'm disappointed in Cris, continuing to live with these horrible people...and then having big blow ups like he did tonight, breaking the glass and yelling at Cande. I could do with a little less of the big dramatic outbursts that burn out quickly. I'd rather all that anger get spread out a little more and used for something constructive like packing up and moving out.

Aldonza. Ay, Aldonza. It was needlessly cruel to both Cris and Renato to say that she needs a divorce because she wants to be with Renato. And it's pointless and unnecessary. It's not like Cris is going to say "Oh, well, if you were just wanting to be single, I was going to refuse to sign the papers. But since you have someone you want to date, I'll go ahead and sign them right away. I don't want to hold you back from moving on."

Hellashelle- Too many great funny lines to quote. I loved it all and loved your sense theme.

Can't believe that after Al was just about to tell Renato no, she pulls that crap about them dating to get Cris off her back. The look on Ren's face (who knew damn well he was about to get ANOTHER no) was priceless. I also noticed a bit of telephone game happening.

This is what Ren's dad said to him: "Aldonza said if she weren't IN LOVE with Cris, she could easily fall in love with you."
This is what Ren said to Silvia: "Aldonza said to my dad that if she didn't MARRY Cris, she could easily fall in love with me."

There's a big difference there.

Love that Hum blindsided Tomas (and us) by revealing his knowledge of the affair and his plans to use it to divorce Pru. Ha!

I am just fed up with these folks.

I, too, am wondering when and how old Hum found out about Pru and Tomas. I am hoping that Hum divorces Pru.

Mari gets worse and worse. She is such a little ponytailed liar. Now, she and Lola are after the same job. Don't care anymore.

I am glad Very stepped up and told her tio the truth.Someone telling the truth is a surprise. Poor puppy is a perfect name for our E.

Like everyone else, I loved the candy\baby play on words..so clever and funny.

Al freaking out over the wedding gown made me glance up from my novel ...QTH is that ? Al does not deserve either Ren or Cris. I know that she has been traumatized by Sev, but there comes a point at which one has to get help or help oneself and move forward. Basta

I'm afraid that because Mari and Lola both had it pointed out to them that The Law Offices of Silvia and Those Other Two are looking for a receptionist, somehow they're both going to end up getting hired. Somebody, please, reassure me that that's not the mess I'll have to deal with tonight. Renato and Silvia both know that Mari was there and they saw her hugging Pato, so it's not like one of them can accidentally hire Lola because they didn't know that Pato had hired Mari, right?

My main concern with Mari working at the law firm is not the drama between her and Lola. It's that she can now be privy to any information involving Padre J or Aldonza, which I think she would easily give to Val who is now working for Sever. This is NOT good.

And I'm not saying he did hire her, he just said he'd talk to the others, but she's acting like it's a done deal and going to pout and whine if the answer is "no."

Vivi, that's far more horrifying than what I was contemplating. Oddly, I'd rather have that than an argument about "It's MY job!" "No, it's MY job!"

Kat- I'm sure that argument will happen too. But, in the long-term the problem is what havoc Mari's presence at the law firm could cause for the good guys.

Vivi, I don't even know why any of them would agree to hire her. Pato knows it's going to cause trouble with Lola. I would expect Silvia and Renato to realize that, even if Pato is being oblivious. And if they're going to hire her, she'd better have some stellar qualifications and be able to jump right in and get started without a lot of training. Doesn't sound like Mari to me. I'm not sure it sounds like Lola, either.

Hi and thank you Rosemary, Susanlynn, Diva, and Vivi

Vivi - yikes! What a smart and terrifying point! I do hope Val reveals herself to be the user he is to Mari before the anvil drops on her pretty ponytail.

I don't mind Cris's outburst. I'm glad to see some passionate frustration from him. I've appreciated his calm and growing sense of frustration with his parents, but I'm glad to see that he's beginning to lose patience. Now, I hope he can translate that into some action: no one mentioned DNA testing, he's still going to work at LA and his tactics with Aldonza haven't evolved at all.

I wanted Aldonza to walk out of that freak out and straight into a group support meeting, but of course not. No, better to abuse your good friend Ren's feelings so that you can shock and hurt the love of your life. I should have written that they're startled not shock. Ren surely understands Aldi's game (and will surely use it to his advantage in the short term). I suppose Cris is understandably shocked. Even if he believes/d that she loves him, indicating that she's jumping into a new relationship before the ink is even on the paper, much the less dry, must be a stab to the gut. Is she hoping the hurt will push him into Val's arms or something? Even doubting that the baby's his?

Hellashelle, enjoyed the recap. Good snarkinss too.
Sev standing in the corner being jealous!!! Well if you weren't such a low down dirty son-of -a-bitch, with sliminess on top, people would love you too. But you are what you are. Moving on.
Mari, liar, liar, pants on fire. She'll get hers, in spades:-[
Aldonza, whatever.
Eman can't get a brake. Much:-(
Cris should go on and sign the damn papers, so when everything is exposed, the truth, the lies, who the manipulaters are, the bad parents, all the crap. And thats just all of cris' troubles. They'll have a clean slate, so to speak.
Back to aldonza, beatin the crap out of her wedding dress isn't helping at all. She should Stop excepting what she sees and hears, she should look beyond that. Especially the people that she knows aren't trustworthy. Val, Val, Val is a big fat liar. But ally Is tired, so she gives up. Poor Ren.
It seems to be calm, and quiet. In the eye of the storm, theres peace. Remember what padre did in church. Somethins coming patio peeps. The bad guys looks like they're gettin over again, NO!!!!!!!
Wouldn't be cool if someone was watching sev dump the coffee table box, and then jumped in and got It out after he left, time is important here. Yes we heard the heart beat stop, but this is a saop, they revive dead people all the time. Opened the box, and theres simonetta, gasping for breath. Im just thinkin of nails to go into sev's coffin. I like those electric hammer guns. Perfect for sev. Don't cha think!?!?!

HellaShelle, last night I was asking myself what century Aldonza is living in, to dismiss the idea that Val might have had a sexual relationship with someone other than Cris. OK, just because she kissed him in public doesn't mean they were having sex...fair enough. It also doesn't mean that they weren't.

And how come "I should let him go because I can never give him children" is a valid reason to give up on Cris, but it's ok for Renato? Does she think it will be different with Renato and being with him won't trigger her flashbacks? Hell, if that's the way it goes, as unrealistic as I would find that, then yes, absolutely, have a relationship with Renato. But she has no idea and she's not even thinking about it. It think it's more about running AWAY from Cris than running TO Renato and that's not fair to any of the three of them.

Aldonza was a runner when they first met, before the rape, so with Cris she's consistent. I don't understand why he keeps taking this crap, she crazy, just like Roberta. Forgot who said it a few days ago but I agree the whole bf/marriage thing is just some romantic caprice she has after school and on Saturdays. Rest of the time she's feeling sorry for herself in full mope and runs to Renato to make her feel loved and adored again. She gets her sea legs under her and she's ready for a Cris again. She has high giddy highs and low pity party lows. She's worn me out.

Hellashelle, how you put together this wondrous recap out of what I thought was a monstrously frustrating episode is amazing. Thanks for making me not start twitching again!

I swear, these people make my head hurt, my eyes twitch and my cats leave the room as soon as the theme music plays. They hate my ranting.

Mari-- really? And Pato falls for this? I know he's supposed to be the ultimate good guy, but gullible is not appealing and can't say he has the best legal instincts if he can't see a liar right in front of him. I don't even want to know what crap that girl will pull...and does she even have skills? I hope that becomes apparent the first time they tell her to type up a legal brief. I swear, the writers go there with Pato/Mari...ARGH!

Oh, those baby blues. Ok, I know some feel that Ren is asking for whatever he gets because he's so obsessed with Allie, but I refuse to see her using him ONCE AGAIN as a way to get back at Cris as still not being wrong. Could she have just insisted she needs to move on in her life, that she wants no part of a Val centric marriage with her in and out and the baby, something...no, she AGAIN uses Ren. Old, getting really old. And yes, Baby Blues is eating it up, which he should learn by now. Don't think it helped with Silvia telling him to go for it, AGAIN. But, dang, he was so cute last night.

Feel a bit better about E-man and the V-girl, but they are painting her now as rather flippy, even is she was honest, so the average viewership still roots for him and Lola. Sorry, she may be not as whiney as usual, but still not a fan. I want such good things for that guy.

So Hum dumps Pru, bet she starts drinking and pill popping even more and I can just imagine what will flow from her mouth...and with Cynthia in that part, this will be good.

No Tomas and Silvia--friends, nothing else. Not even believable if they try to push anything else.

Daisynjay

If she really wanted to pursue a relationship with Cris, she'd be all over the Lardo/Val theory. She'd be angry, but she'd be considering Cris's future and being a stepmom and therefore whether or not the kid is really Cris's. But since she's in DEEEEEEEEP denial about how "over it" she is, she's not even thinking about getting help, or whether her fear of sexual intimacy extends past Cris. But then again, maybe she was thinking it wouldn't matter since she was going to tell Ren no anyway.

At least with Pato and Lola, he knew the score before they started a fake relationship. She expects Ren to have her back because he just said he would because he loves her. But taking advantage of that fact, right after he lays bare his feelings and intentions is SO rude. And for what? To shock Cris into thinking you're so fickle, you're not worth it? If he hasn't jumped on that boat yet based on your own actions, why would he because of that little comment?

I feel like I'm backseat writing/directing this thing. Maybe it's all supposed to be about how Aldonza's trauma has led to her making these seemingly senseless decisions, but they're neither telling us nor showing us that this is the case. Maybe Cris' not getting tired of it is supposed to be because he understands why she's behaving this way and he's being compassionate, but they're neither telling us nor showing us that this is the case.

Instead she looks wishy-washy and manipulative and he looks like he's a glutton for punishment. Not attractive qualities in a lead couple.

I wished Cris would remember the ultimatum he gave her. Marry me or I'll leave you alone and go away. She's cute and has the luxury of two guys just waiting on her to bat her eyes at them and smile. Come on, somebody get a spine and some self respect and tell her to take a flying leap.

I see Adelina found another reason not to tell. A black & blue wedding dress.

ITA that Aldonza pulling this lie about dating Ren is low. And that's all I think it is- a lie. I don't think she has any intention of actually trying a relationship with him, and he knows it.

It's been mentioned that Al keeps doing this to Ren, but this is the first time I remember her ever saying to him or anyone that she wants a romantic relationship with him (not qualifying it with "if I had never fallen for Cris"). Am I mistaken? Other than this, and the time she decided for two days that they couldn't even be friends (after the talk with Silvia), her relationship with Ren has remained consistent- too dependent, but firmly in the friend zone.

How expensive was that wedding dress? Can she afford to just be trashing it? It didn't look so bad. Maybe Adelina can sell it to a local shop or something, but it sure won't be for the full original purchase price.

I'm vaguely remembering one other time when she said "OK, let's try it" to Ren, after the first "try" that was right around the time she graduated.

I'm personally not a fan of the "If" conversations, because I think they give false hope. They shouldn't, but they do. Either she's into him or she's not into him, but "I could've been into you if I weren't into this other guy"? Sure, to me the subtext is "I don't have romantic feelings for you, but I think it's mean to say so," but to him the subtext is "The only thing standing in your way is this other guy, so just wait for him to get out of the way and I'm all yours."

It bothers that the protagonista HAS to be with someone, so she's always portrayed as choosing between two guys and if she doesn't want one then the other one "gets" her. I had some hope when she was telling Adelina that she needed to focus on other things, but now it sounds like she meant "another guy." Ugh!

I'm still mourning the fate of the beautiful wedding dress Africa Z/Maria ripped up in Amores con Trampa the other week. The bloody wedding dress in La Malquerida, and ripped up and burned up wedding dress in Soy Tu Duena also come to mind. This dress fared a LOT better than other derailed wedding dresses in other tns. Nothing a little dry cleaning can't fix.

Kat- So that was before Cris came back into her life, and right before they found their parents in a liplock on her couch, which put an end to things before they started. Doesn't count.

Vivi, I think you are right, the closest she came was a non reaction when he said they should try even if she loved Cris and gave her a few kisses. I was surprised when she departed from that when she spoke to Renato's dad and seemed to indicate that if she didn't love Cris, Renato would be the guy she would love. That's heavy duty, telling his dad, Renato would be the man but I'm marrying this other guy. I understand how that would be encouraging to Renato if she divorces.

Lol, Vivi, yes...it's not like the dress went over a cliff in a burning car! Sell it or give it away!

I also hate the ploy that the protagonist, male or female, always has to be with someone. Telenovelas have a big problem portraying people as happily single, or happily dating around, like Lulu.

Word. Mad props to Lulu and her dos novios. Never settle, Lulu. Never settle.

Does Padre J count as happily single? I swear he must give thanks every time someone comes to him with relationship drama.

I wish we had a little glimpse into Lulu's life outside of her Church duties. Seems like it's a hoot. Always a couple of boyfriends on rotation.

I think it's funny that she expects Padre to remember which one is which, since she told him all about them in confession.

I would love it if Cris took a liking to Silvia and she him. Not get married right away but start dating after he moved out of his parents house. Emanuel hook up with Veronica and the four of them could double. Be fun.

Well that would certainly get Aldonza's attention. Especially since Silvia can interact like a rational, adult female.

I was thinking the same thing about Pato as someone said above: his strengths must be in legal writing, not interrogation.

And, tight as money is, you'd think Aldi would put the dress up on Ebay or something. If Tomas was going to get a nice stack for the Candy House, she should be able to recoup some of that dress money.

Also, points to Joaquin (and Flavia too, I guess). Way for him to step up. Not only insisting she get checked out, but also reminding her --firmly, but politely-- that even though they're done as a couple, she's still free to see her son whenever she wants. I'm glad Little Ray's not a blackmail target for them anymore.

Hellashelle - also forgot to say that Renato is the bankroll, so Joaq and Roll is not entirely off base.

When my daughter called off her wedding, I just could not part with the gown that we had such a wonderful time picking out together. After a few years, I took it to a consignment shop , and the lady said that someone would buy it for a quincenara (?), but I only got a fraction of what I had paid for it. I was sad because she looked like a princess in that gown. My daughter bought the gown that she eventually got married in later.

Renato indirectly paid for the wedding dress anyway so Aldonza can use it when they get married.

Hella, this is just exquisite! I LOVE the thematic organization that covers all the details, rocks with humor and is just, just . . .damned entertaining! Weekdays aren't good for me on the patio but I hope to get back and read the comments: I need to hear other people rip Alduncea another one. Or, at least I hope they do. Same with Mari. Anyway, gotta run. Thanks, girl!

:D Lila

Hellashelle – Thank you for the recap, snark, and the translations. I love the title and the “senses”~! That was a lot of work, girl!!! You were on fire! Millones de gracias!!!

OMG and some of the Patio comments here are hysterically funny, too!

Joaq & Rol - roflol!!!

Right now, the only characters I care about are Padre Jeronimo, Silvia, and El Solitario. Well, and maybe Dom & Mel.

I’m not seeing a Tomas/Silvia pairing, but they make an interesting pair. Clearly Tomas is not going to get any kind of priestly calling, any time soon. He’d have to quit macking on women!

HOW on earth did Humberto know about Tomas and Pru???

Is there some reason (other than some yet-to-be-revealed of plot device ) that Flavia cannot be examined by Humberto?

I truly hope the bishop was not bought by Sev and is coming to town to hear PJ’s side of things.

Did Pato actually hire Mari? Or did she misconstrue/twist his bland comment and consider herself hired? (the same way she misconstrued her engagement to Eman)

After last night, I will now FFWD ----> thru all Mari scenes. !Ya basta!

Aldi wedding dress scene. …. gah. I hit the FFWD ----> button for that one, too.

doris, the bishop telling Sev "I know who you are" could go either way...I hope it means something like "I'm on to you and your tricks."

It seems that everybody is getting sick and tired of being sick and tired of Aldonza. when is Renao going to get sick and tired of her?
back back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. That girl is just really exhausting. If I didn't know there'd be a happy ending I'd quit watching. But there IS an end to all the madness.
I really want Simonetta to come back, that would blow sev out of the water. Over the edge, off the cliff, into hell. O happy day!!!!!!
Remember this is a soap, it could happen.

HellaShelle, maybe if Aldonza/Adelina get Tomas to write the eBay ad for them, they can get a better price for the wedding dress :D

I am only hanging in there with this tontería to see what Sev's comeuppance will be, and to make sure PadJer come out of this story alive.

What do you guys think of Val's claim that she loves Cris? Is she actually delusional or is she just too smart to admit anything to her mom anymore?

I'm angry at Mari all over again! Why didn't anyone ask, if she's so gungho about wanting to save for law school, how come she wasn't working before she got Lola fired? I mean, geez! Lola kind of needs her job, Mari! And all this bull about how everything always works out for Lola?! What?! Why doesn't anyone ask her wth that means? So far, all it's meant is that Eman and Pato got with Lola before her. You would seriously get someone fired for that?! UGH!!!!

you know there seems to be new things going on in telenovas. The slim factor seemd to work on this one. Maybe they'll let Flavia get sick and then have to go to a clinic. before she does, she'll agree to a legal divorce or whatever and let Joaquin be happy with Adelina. well like I said, it could happen.
I don't like the idea of someone having to die for someone else to be happy. It dosen't happen that way all the time. Someone said they don't allow divorce In tns. The kid will adjust, he'll have two moms. More Love!!!

I guess I'm hanging in there because I'm recapping. And because it's still a better show than what came before it, so as annoyed as I get, that tempers my reactions :) I'm not really curious about a lot of what's going to happen, since it seems like a lot of things are inevitable, but there are still questions about the how/when. I guess that's it. Sev will get punished...but if I don't watch, then I won't know how it happens.

I think Val thinks she loves Cris. I also think Val doesn't know what love is. Given that she considers a healthy income and high social status a prerequisite.

I agree, it should have been suspicious to her parents why, if Mari's the one who thought Lola was stealing, she would be so nonchalant about telling Irma to just re-hire her.

I'm in it for the Candy House.

And I am interested to see how the Sev take down plays out. I enjoy watching Padre and Sev so I still find the show interesting to watch.

The Candy House! How could I forget? So many mysteries still about the past of the Candy House, not to mention what its future will be. Who will end up with it? Will it ever be opened? Will it ever be eaten? Will someone chip a tooth trying?

Great work, Hellashelle.

I'm also wondering how Humberto figured this out. And I hope he hires Silvia and her team and the divorce is fugly.

Let's not forget the trashed dress in LQNPA. I pity those bridal designers who have to watch that happen to their creations.

Still peeved at Veronica.

For sneaking into his room in the first place or for stealing the blanket? He didn't appear to need it, if his bare torso was any indication :D

hellashelle, this was sensational. I can't think of enough accolades. Truly.

"Uriel, is in fact, not smarter than your average bear and proudly buys Mari’s sudden desire to be a useful human being" and "Pato isn’t a duck, he’s a fish and he is reeled right in: were among my many favorites.

When priests are visited by clergy higher on the ecclesiastical scale (so to speak), it is never a good thing. Do we dare to hope the bishop is as fair and sensible as our good padre?? I am concerned.

I'm not really surprised he said nothing about the affair. I believe he has been done with Pru for some time and he had moved way beyond recriminations at this point. Perhaps he is indeed more insightful than meets the eye.

Diana

I was referring to Hum in my last paragraph.

Diana

"What do you guys think of Val's claim that she loves Cris?"

Q: How do we know when VileVal is lying?
A: The minute she opens her mouth!

Hella, thank you for a wonderful recap, it was so much fun to read it this morning! I too was surprised that Humberto was well aware of the affair, now he has a get out of jail card and can dump Pru in a flash!

Remember that early on, Pru asked Hum for a divorce and his response was ---WHERE DO I SIGN?
He had been over her for some time.

Really? No interest in finding out how things end? The only end that seems telegraphed to me is that Cris and Aldonza will walk down the aisle, and that romance also happens to be the weakest link in this tale.

But I am really interested in:
- Any showdown between Padre J and Sever that we know has to be coming.
- Sever getting exposed and getting a huge anvil. Who will bring him down?
- Cande's anvil. I can't imagine what the writers have in store for her. She hasn't killed anyone, but she is a horrible human being.
- Pru's anvil. With her boozing and pill popping, this is going to be epic.
- Val's anvil. The baby lie and her creepy relationship with Sever means that things are not going to end well for her.
- Hum coming clean. When and how will he do it, and what will be his punishment?
- Cris' reaction when he finds out his dad raped Al, and both his parents and godfather kidnapped his brother and subjected him to scorn his whole life.
- Eman's reaction when he finds out about his origins.
- Al's reaction when she finds out all Adelina has been hiding, and Adelina's fate.
- The Candy House's happy ending.

That's a LOT of interesting plot lines, IMO.

Well, Vivi, considering on the last few shows, we had misdeeds that not only went unpunished, but also undiscovered, I probably shouldn't consider most of your list a foregone conclusion, but I guess I still have some optimism left after all :p It's more about the "how" for me than "whether." I would be really surprised if any of those things didn't happen...no anvils, no Cris finding out what his parents did, no Emmanuel finding out who his parents are. Surprised and disappointed.

Kat- Over on Perdone, people are being knocked off left and right before they can spill the truth. That's frustrating as heck. I'm sure in this one the truths will be exposed, and I'm eager to see the reactions of the people those truths affect.

Vivi, that does sound frustrating.

Excellent list, Vivi and I am interested in seeing all that, too. I'm just annoyed that it's going to get stretched over 6 more weeks. I don't like that. It sort of ruins the pacing and dramatic tension for me.

I'm surprised that there is so much annoyance with this show. Even though I've been loudly complaining about our lead characters, I've really liked the show, the rest of the characters, and mostly how it's gone. I'm with Vivi, I can't wait to see how these problems will get figured out and revealed.

My annoyance is totally with Cris and Aldonza. If they would stop showing them, I would be fine.

And Adelina and Joaq. I don't really care about them. I'll be at that table by myself.

I don't like his actions, but I could watch Sev all day long. Hum is another one I enjoy watching.

I'd say my annoyance is because the good bits were so good it leaves me looking at the not-so-good bits and wondering why it's not all good. It's still better than...you know what show I'm going to say...but when I think "Do I want to own this one on DVD?" Eh, not really. If they were to show it again in a few years, maybe I would watch, but there would be a lot of parts I would skip.

Diva - I feel you. This show has a lot of great potential, but it falls flat where there's no reason for it to do so. They need to hire the Patio and run every episode through Caray before it airs.

OMG! CRIS IS WEARING RED SNEAKERS!

That makes no sense. He doesn't even wear sneakers in the show. He usually wears boots, doesn't he?

HellaShelle, I would not mind signing off on every episode before it airs. If it's that good, it can stand up to repeated re-watching. It doesn't even have to be that good...some of my favorite movies and TV shows to watch over and over again aren't exactly "good." :D

I KNEW IT!!! I don't get it either. Must be the actor showing out from under the character.

Diva - same here

LaDiva- so funny about the candy house.
WHO WILL END UP WITH IT?
WILL IT EVER BE OPENED?
WILL IT EVER BE EATEN?
WILL SOMEONE CHIP A TOOTH ON IT? "LOL.
If someone did try to eat it they might do more than chip a tooth they brake it off. How long has that house been around? Its probably petrified in that plastic wrap.
I think that sweet house has secrets. In a few weeks we'll see I guess.

I'm still guessing the candyhouse is going to go to Eman and Lola. That's were it started once it left the shop. I'd like to see a full circle.
