La Sombra del Pasado, Capítulo 106 (Mx 107), 07-14-15

Short: Pato and Lola are getting married! One of them’s happy about it. Tomás is back home and ready to do good. Pru is proud of her mob antics. Lola tells Cris about S/V’s pregnancy and disappearance. Eman gets arrested. He tells Don Antonio the truth about El Solitario, but Don Toño’s on his side. PJ says Cande would be the woman of his life…if he hadn’t become a priest. Ren(/Aldi) will press charges against Pru. Sev forges Cris’s signature to put El Solitario back in his name so that he can legally crush Eman.

Long: Adelina and PJ put Baby Aldi to sleep. PJ will try to figure out what happened with those crazy people tomorrow, but she should get some rest tonight. On the stairwell, Adelina fairly bursts: What’s wrong with these people?! They could’ve set the house on fire! They could’ve hit Aldonza or Dominga with one of those bricks! PJ doesn’t get the incredible stupidity either, but thinks Pru’s off her rocker and chances are she paid those people.

Tomás’s parents welcome him into the house with open arms. They invite him to stay for dinner, but want him to move home. He wants that too, but this time around he wants to show he’s changed: he’ll pay rent for his room and work double shifts for extra cash. He wants to take a certain lady out…

Cris wants to check on Aldonza, but Adelina blames him and his whole stupid family for the mob, so no, he can’t see her. He’s gonna give his godmother a piece of his mind, but Adelina tells him to save his breath: Every time he defends Aldonza, his defense just brings more hate down on her head. Aldonza eavesdrops from the staircase and bolts before Cris sees her. PJ tells Adelina she’s being harsh with Cris. No harsher, she points out, than this town is being with Aldonza.

Eman’s laughing and smiling with people who care about him. So, obviously, he’s arrested.

Lola accepts Pato’s proposal. He’s over the moon! She’s…not. In fact, she looks like she swallowed something worse than a ring (Maybe all of Mari’s BS?). She asks that they keep both the engagement and the ring-swallowing anecdote a secret for now.

Pru, drink firmly in hand, gleefully recounts the lynch mob to her lizard witch daughter. She confirms that she paid the mob. (Wow…exactly how much money did she squirrel away from Hum all these years?) Their cackles are interrupted by Cris’s arrival. He tells Pru he’ll forget she’s his godmother if she goes near Aldi again. Pruzy not scared of him. (Really, no one is). She’s proud of what she did to that curnia(=Can’t find it with Google, but I’m sure it’s slut vocab, so drink!). Aldonza’s the reason Hum wants a divorce! And she ruined Val’s life! Cris calls Pru crazy and extends his toothless “threat” to Val, who swears she had nothing to do with it. He storms out and Val snaps at Pru that if Cris turns against her over this, she won’t forgive Pru.

Silvia, up late reading what looks like a law book, flashes back to when she and Ren did the TN twist and shout on the desk at work after hours. Pato comes in to share his news. He swears her to secrecy, then gives a play-by-play of everything that happened with Lola.

Lola and Cris catch up as he arrives at LA. Lola blames Sev for the mob, but Cris says he had nothing to do with it this time: it was Pru. Same diff, Lola says. Sev’s a dirty dog capable of even- She stops herself, but Cris presses. Instead of saying anything about Aldonza, she shares her suspicions about her mom’s pregnancy and disappearance. Cris seems inexplicably bgobsmacked that he might have a(nother) half sibling.

Val insists that Cris can’t know that she supports Pru’s madness. She can’t give him more reasons to hate her. Pru’s ok with this because she wants all the credit for pulling of a flaming-torch mob. Val points out that Pru could get arrested for this, but Pru waves her off. The SLPD would have to arrest half the town! In any case, Aldonza will think twice before getting involved with…well, any man now.

Aldonza’s crying to Adelina again. She’s losing her two biggest dreams: Cris and El Santuario. Everything’s falling apart!

Sev and Cande are smugly satisfied when Cris admits he couldn’t see Aldi. Now he must know that the mob was all Pru, not them. And with that many people going after Aldonza, there must be a reason, right? Cande revives her favorite argument: Aldi got her wicked ways from her mom. Cris retorts that Rob couldn’t have been that bad since Sev hooked up with her, right? And Simoneta Saavedra too. How is she by the way? That takes some of the wind out of Sev/Cande’s sails. Cris leaves (forgetting to ask why he’s not an uptight, homicidal monster, if things are inherited. Or if Cande really wants him to get with the daughter of an alcoholic, violent lunatic and a spineless coward.)

Lola asks Aldi if Cris knows about the rape. No, Aldi says, Lola and Adelina are the only ones. Lola thinks Aldi should tell everyone, especially Cris, so that everyone knows the kind of monster Sev is. No way, Aldi says. Cris might kill his father and she couldn’t live with that on her conscience.

The next morning, Cris blows past Mari into Ren’s office. Furious, he calls Ren useless. He made this whole big fuss about being the man to protect Aldonza and give her the peace she needs, and she almost got lynched last night! He demands that Ren protect her and storms out again. Um…what?

Cande visits PJ to stress that she and Sev had nothing to do with the lynch mob. She hates Aldonza, but she’s not a murderer. He eventually believes her. He’s glad that somewhere, buried deep down inside of her, there’s a human-like thing trying to survive. Cande reminds him that he threw her over for, pfft, God. PJ says he never rejected her, he just realized he had another path. If he hadn’t become a priest, she would’ve been the woman of his life. Cande asks bitterly what good that does her now. She leaves.

Ren visits Aldi, who tells him about the mob. Ren wants to press charges against Pru. Aldi thinks it won’t matter; her charges never come to anything in this town. Well, this time, Ren points out, she has witnesses. Once they charge Pru, the other mobsters will go down for this too. He cuddles her.

Flavia calls Adelina to warn her off of Joaquin. I’m about to get pissed about yet another villain calling to spew foolishness and then hanging up, when Adelina not only defends herself, but gets the last word. She broke it off with Joaq a while ago, she tells Flavia, precisely so he could reconcile with her, his wife. Why? For Lil Ray, obviously. She tells Flavia to learn how to appreciate her hubby this time around. Flavia protests that she loves Joaq. Yeah? Adelina says. Well, her actions leave a lot of room for doubt. She tells Flav to stop bothering her and hangs up. I like it.

PJ goes to see Hum to see if he can shed some light on the reason for the lynch mob. Hum is totally clueless.

Lola’s still pissed about Pru’s crazy accusations about Aldi and Hum. Aldi asks Lola where she was during all the broohaha. Lola breaks her own rule and tells Aldi that Pato proposed and she swallowed the ring.

Tomás gives PJ a huge hug. He’s come to say goodbye since he’s going home. He thanks PJ from the bottom of his goofy heart. He’s going to follow all of PJ’s advice…except for the Silvia part. That girl is way too hot to stay away from! PJ fills him in on his ex’s crazy.

Lola shows Aldi the X-ray. Aldi congratulates Lola on her engagement; even if she’s not with Eman, Aldi says, if Lola’s happy, Aldi’s happy. Lola wants to invite her grandparents over to share the news. She still looks miserable as she hugs Aldi.

They’re transferring Eman to SL for the charges. Don Toño’s going to get his lawyer to clear this up. There’s nothing to clear up Eman says. He admits that he stole El Solitario…and why. At one point, he asks if Toño knows Sev. “Yes,” Toño responds. “Unfortunately, I do…” My mind whirls with questions about Toño, Sev, Cande…and the Candy House.

Nava tells Sev that without Cris signing El Solitario over to him, Eman will quickly go free. No worries, Sev says. He’ll just forge Cris’s signature. Cris never cared about the ranch, or what he was signing in relation to it, so he’ll just tell Cris that he signed the horse over to Sev ages ago and just wasn’t paying attention. Sadly, our sweet prince is probably a big enough idiot to buy this. Nava makes a weak show of having principles by reminding Sev that forgery’s a cri- He doesn’t even finish his sentence before Sev waves him off.

Eman’s finishing up his story. Toño says he would’ve done the same. He’ll support Eman through this.

Sev has forged the forms. He also wants Nava to get Eman’s bail denied. Nava gives an update on Adriano: no change.

As they transfer Eman into the truck to return to SL, he asks to say goodbye to El Solitario. They let him and Eman tells El Sol that he’s the best friend he’s had his whole life.

Mari’s chatting with a group of friends (I assume she, like Pru, paid them to be there) when Lola walks by. Mari taunts her about swallowing the ring. (Which she knows how?) Lola says she may have swallowed the ring, but Mari will have to swallow all of her bitter hate because Lola’s going to be Pato’s wife, while Mari will just be the secretary. Mari says Pato won’t be the first or the last man to fall for his secretary while his frumpy housewife waits at home to bring his slippers.

Sev calls Cande and Cris in to tell them that Eman’s been arrested for El Solitario’s theft. Before Cris can even get into his arguments, Sev interrupts, telling him that he will have no pity on Eman and he doesn’t care what Cris says or does. Now, besides that, is there anything Cris wants to say? Yes: That Sev is a miserable being and every day Cris is a little more disgusted that he’s his son.

Good night everyone!

Couldn't get onto the patio today, but it's probably for the best because I coudn't believe what I watched last night. I thought it might've been a weird dream this morning, but no, there was a mob. A torch bearing mob.

Anyway, tonight's recap was originally titled "Ugh. Not even inspired to snark." Nonetheless, I think i covered everything. I look forward to getting reinspired by the Patio Peeps!

Thank you, HellaShelle! Maaaaaaahvelous recap :D

Wow, Cris was really throwing out the "toothless" threats tonight, wasn't he. Seriously, man...DO something already! "Stop it or I'll say stop it again!"

I'm ok so far with the way Emmanuel's situation is turning out. Props to Don Antonio for actually asking questions and *gasp* listening! I'm willing to concede that, just possibly, he may not be secretly evil. "My mind whirls with questions about Toño, Sev, Cande…and the Candy House." Ohhhhhh yeah, there's a story there...I can't wait to hear it!

I really thought Lola was going to crack instead of telling Cris about Simoneta. When they were talking about their half-sibling in common, it made me a little sad that neither one of them is going to meet him or her.

"Cande reminds him that he threw her over for, pfft, God." Sorry, Cande. Padre J likes his love divine, not earthly.

Hellashelle- Marvelous recap! We missed you on the Patio today.

To answer your question, when Pato was in the hospital with Lola last episode, he called Silvia and told her what happened. Mari was eavesdropping and heard enough to know what happened.

Well, it makes a little more sense that Pru paid those people. But do they just hang out on the corner with a "mob for hire" sign?

So glad Don Tono listened to Eman and is going to support him. It's very intriguing that he knows Sever, but also not unusual as they are both in the horse world.

The line that left me gobsmacked this episode was when Nava asked why Sever had it in so bad for Eman, what did he ever do to him? And Sever answered he was born. Sheesh!

ITA about Cris' toothless threats to everyone. Back it up with actions, dude.

Vivi, I see ads for mobs all the time on Craigslist. Oh, wait...flash mobs. Never mind.

Yeah, Sev had been sort of ambiguous about Em. Sometimes I even thought he was a little proud of Em. And now he's saying this. Well. There goes the ambiguity.

Oh, wait! You might be on to something, Kat. Maybe they all thought they were part of some kind of performance art flash mob?

"When do we start doing the dance routine? Hey! That guy's got a shotgun! That wasn't part of the deal!"

Hi ladies!

I missed being on the patio too, but last night's episode really left me angry and unfufilled. Are we $1000 and a shot of JD will get you a flame-torch weilding band of crazies to burn down the priest's niece's house? What kind of f***ed up AU world is SL in? Madenss.

Thanks for filling in the gaps for me Vivi, I definitely missed that phone call and Sev's soul shriveling line just flew past me as I typed tonight. That slimy worm is unbelievable! Think I might rename this episode "Hypocrites! Hypocrites, everywhere!"

Diva - ITA. SO glad Don Antonio let Eman explain and agreed with him. I get so annoyed when people, especally the good guys, get cut off and banished or walked out on before they can say anything helpful. It's the main reason I liked Flavia and Adelina's scene. No hateful spew followed by a hang up: SO FRUSTRATING!

Prob coudn't be more annoyed with these characters if I tried. Cris is sweet as honey, but he's so ineffectual it's ridiculous. His calling Ren useless was a total WTH moment for me.

Aldonza didn't even really make the short list tonight; nothing she did was that note worthy. I piggybacked her on Ren in case anyone was skipping The Long.

Lola - sigh. Really? Still don't hate you, but I'm kinda done with you. Messing with Duckie is just NOT cool and you should really know better.

I'm just in it for the anvils now.

Heehee! :)

LOL! I LOVE that idea! Man, I wish they had all started doing the Thriller dance when Pru turned around. Maybe she would've finally thought "huh. maybe I do drink too much."

Meanwhile, I must need sleep. I meant:

"Are we to believe $1000..."
and "Madness" (not Madeness. Don't know wth that is.)

Ugh! I can't sleep without saying this:

When Pru said Hum asked for the divorce because of Aldi, I really, really wanted Cris to snap! I wanted him to grab her drink, throw it to the ground and say "Maybe he's asking for a divorce because of this, huh?! Or maybe because you and your daughter are manipulativem gold digging bit- wastes! And don't you try to blackmail me; I will sue for custody of my child and keep him or her as far away from you lunatics as is humanly possible! You, throwing rocks and leading mobs! And you! I'm still not convinced you didn't have anything to do with shooting my wife! But I swear to all that is watching right now, I will make you pay for this."

Hellashelle, thank you! Super-snarkly recap, great fun reading it! The episode was a bit toothless, with a couple of exceptions:

Lola spilled the beans about her suspicions of Sim/Viv's disappearance. First time Chris knew of this I think.

Don Tonio nodding thoughtfully when Eman asks if he knows who Severiano Mendoza is. Ooh--What if Tonio is Sev's brother? Eman will have an uncle! Oh wait...then Eman would be related to his own girlfriend Vero. Okay never mind.

Goodbye scene with El Solitario, omigosh. Except the animal talent looked like he wanted nothing to do with Eman.

Tomas, the Reunion. Or, the Prodigal Son returns. I thought Tomas' dad threw him out, but glad to see somebody is happy in this episode.

Where is the Candy House? Anyone remember exactly what that original Candy House scene showed? Didn't it show a man holding/carrying it?

J in Oregon

HellaShelle, I always feel like one of the signs of nearing the end is that people ask intelligent questions and listen to the answers. Couldn't have happened at a better time than this. Oddly, I'm not seeing Em get arrested as a bad thing, mostly because now I know Don Antonio is on his side. Finally, Em isn't alone. But what a total crock! For the cops to go arrest him before Sev even showed them proof that the horse was his?! And did Cris just...forget that it's his horse? Or is that something Sev did without telling him, for tax purposes maybe?

Cris won't get smart enough to threaten to take custody of (not) his baby due to Valeria's irresponsible behavior until we're waaaaaay closer to the end, if ever.

J in O, I wondered if the dangling handcuffs spooked the horse?

Yes, the Candy House started out as a gift for Marga from a would-be fiance. Hey, maybe that will turn out to be Don Antonio?

Good work, Hellashelle.

BTW, this was Mexican episode 107 in its entirety.

Mari deserves a nasty Karmageddon. This mean-girl garbage is getting ancient and it's high time she suffered for it.

Cristobal needs to find his cojones. He has monsters for parents and Lola's near slip down the slope of disclosure means he will find that out soon.

Diva - that's the Candy House theory I'm running with too. If so, it's kinda weird that the Candy House lady hasn't been more involved in the rest of the show.

It would have been nice if at the very end of the episode, Cris hadn't said anything at all, but instead had turned on his heel, went upstairs, packed and left. No words necessary. It's still a dream of mine that he does this at some point-just moves without saying anything to Cande or Sev.

That Mari would so openly threaten Lola's potential marriage...I mean...really?...what?...why?...how can you...? I can't deal with her.

Could mass just be someone straight up asking the people in this town WTH? I just want someone, ANYONE to ask the faceless crazies- or our prominent nut bags - to explain themselves. Actually. With words. And in front of other people.

Wonderful hellashelle! These episodes are sure offering up the fodder for snark. I find now a glass of the vino helps in getting through now.

Cris, so cute, but enough with all the running around and threatening people. DO SOMETHING...I don't know, I'm with you Hellashelle, show him telling off his parents and then leaving, have some sort of quiet moment lining up all the moments and rumors and begin to fire the light bulb. For him to yell at Ren...gee when he was still married to the woman he wasn't exactly parked outside the house protecting her either. I get he's frustrated, but how about using some of his cash and buying security guards for her?

I had something in my eye through the whole E-man saying goodbye to Solitario. Took a couple kleenex to work through. Sniff Sniff. And Sev, that comment? Yeah the patio feels the same about you. If anyone deserves a big happy ending, it's E-man. I still vote that Cris hands over the manse to him as the ultimate pink bow for me. You can have any wedding, I want E-man and Solitario striding off into the sunset. (Sev better not touch one hair on that horse's head.)

I want PJ to call Pru out in front of the town during Sunday service. Big Time!!

Daisynjay

Hellashelle, what a treat & thank you.

"Eman’s laughing and smiling with people who care about him. So, obviously, he’s arrested"

"she and Ren did the TN twist and shout"

"Cande reminds him that he threw her over for, pfft, God"

"Mari’s chatting with a group of friends (I assume she, like Pru, paid them to be there)"

Only three, no four things stood out for me last night. The tense but rational conversation between Adelina and Flavia, PJ admitting to Cande he did love the girl that was, Severiano hating Emanuel because he was born, Cris has no balls

Cris - all bark and no bite

PJ - I chose god you chose satan

Cande - but I let you touch with my boobies

Aldonza - wake me when it's over

Emanuel - if I was to return, I imagined a ticker tape parade

Lola - hissing contest

Renato - screw you Cris, it's easy to demand 24/7 protection when you don't work

El Solitario - you try standing in a tin can all day for a 30 second shot

Hellashelle - Thank you or the recap!!! "she and Ren did the TN twist and shout" --- Good one!

This telenovela is turning into one big hot mess. And it started out so well! Ack.

Tofie- I too felt the horse was spooked because he was inside a small trailer for transport. I think most animals hate getting into transport crates/trailers.

I think the tn is still on track, except for Cris and Aldonza. They are the only two characters who are stunted/treading water. Everyone else is either spiraling because of their evil (Pru, Val, Sever, Cande), about to crack because of their past cowardice (Adelina, Hum), becoming more aware of and involved in the fight against evil (Padre, Lola, Ren), or spreading their wings and building their confidence (Eman, Tomas).

Muchas gracias, hellashelle! I still haven't gotten to see the episode. Thank you for keeping me up to date with your snarky talent!

Thanks Hellashelle, I love your wit. Putting baby Aldonza to bed, that's what I was thinking when I saw it too!

So the cop who arrested Emanuel, who knew that Ray Romano was a TN actor?

Thanks, Hellashelle! My friends are hitting all the key points, love your alternate dialogue for Cris at 11:52. Sigh. Too bad it would never happen.

Tofie, as usual girl, you read my mind before I can comment! :D

Here's aun uncited line I like:

He’s glad that somewhere, buried deep down inside of her, there’s a human-like thing trying to survive

Now that's damned funny! Deeeeeep, deeeeeeep down inside and it's a thing, and it's only "human-like". Yep. That's Cande!

Now, why would they put these words in PJ's mouth? Surely they wouldn't go there. I don't see how they could. . .no, no, it's unthinkable. It's an abomination. . .

Hope I can make it back later. Hellashelle, your recaps are ALWAYS a treat, thorough, BAM! and sparkiling with wit despite what the nitwits do! Thank you!

J in O- Dominga now has the Candy House. Cande gave it to her. Tomas' parents forgave him and asked him to move back after his suicide attempt. He turned them down because he wanted to keep working and living with Padre. In a cut scene from yesterday, Padre told him he should looked for another job and place to live because his (Padre) future was uncertain. That's why he decided to go back home, but paying rent and working double shifts for his dad.

Wow, Vivi at 7:45. I like how you framed the evolution of the story up to this point and you back your points up solidly by connecting each one with more than one character. I'd rather look at it like this than color the whole thing as circling the toilet bowl because of the crazy non-romance of Donnie and Cris. Thanks! Of course, I'll still fuss 'cause that's my nature, but this perspective does calm me down!

One fuss point. If Pato loves and trusts Lola enough to make her his wife, Lola needs to tell him all about the manipulative, lying shrew Mari is. Having Mari as a so-called executive assistant is stupid and suicidal AND her outright upfront plan to undermine his marriage to Lola is outrageous. He needs to ditch Mari NOW!

:D

Ditto Lila's comment on Vivi's comment. Love the analysis. If the show was built around Aldonza and Cristobal, it might still be all good in the hood.

Also, Lila, you hit it: Pato loves and trusts Lola (not sure why, but whatever). Unfortunately, she doesn't love him. And I'm mad at her for using him to stick it to Mari. I'm running with the idea that she sees Eman happily moving on, never wanting to return to SL and thinks that she blew it so completely that he's just not an option anymore, no matter what feelings she still has for him. So now she's trying to move on. Pato seems to love her and is awesome and she likes him a heck of a lot. He thinks she'll make him happy and she's willing to try, so why not.

But this is just a variation on Cris and Al, who are annoying the crap out of me right now. Why can't she just stick to taking more time?

darn it! I meant *wasn't. "If the show wasn't built around Aldonza and Cristobal..."

Bores me senseless when Cris, like a child, barges in on everybody, shouts and stomps out and Aldonza mopes over losing a relationship I know she doesn't believe in.

I want to know more of PJ's and Cande's relationship and will he coax Cande back from hell. Instead seemed he was saying his goodbye to her. I want to know why Don Toño made that face when Severiano's name was mentioned. I want Renato to throw Pru and all her minions in jail and let them rot. I want Veronica to stand by her man, Emanuel exonerated and leave town without Lola showing her ass. I want Silvia to stay away from Tomas. I want Joaquin and Flavia to work out a schedule for visitation so little Ray to see his mamma and for Joaquin to forever stop considering Adelina as a mommie replacement. I want Simoneta to come up for air.

It looks to me like Sev wanted Emanuel around to torture him because he couldn't torture Roberta anymore. Unless his original intention was to kill him in front of her at some point and he didn't get the opportunity. Otherwise his having him nearby makes no sense in view of how this royally fries Candela. That part was not in Sev's best interests.

At this point I am also wondering how -- after all this time -- Cristobal has never caught them in an argument about Emanuel. We are now on the threshold of him finding out about the rape and this secret is just as big. He has to find out soon because while the rape only damns Sev, this secret also damns Candela. I don't recall Sev implicating her in the kidnapping and cover-up during his first round of confessional abuse but Padre J has to find that out now, following this most recent encounter with her.

Predicting now that Cristobal (or Dominga or Melesio) will hear an argument between Sev and Padre J.

I haven't seen enough glimpses of light from Cande to want her happiness. She just looks like a beautiful, bitter woman who's obsessed with a dead woman that she hasn't even seen in over 20 years and a man that hasn't been hers in even longer. I don't see why PJ should give up his heart's calling and get her as his consolation prize.

I can only hope Val's statement was prophetic and Pru goes to jail for this mob thing. She and Val operate like "I don't like her! She's getting in my way!" is a legitimate defense for illegal acts of/and physical violence and defamation and it's getting ridiculous! I want an anvil shower now!

...And I immediately had this thought: "Game of Drones: A Shower of Anvils"

Right on, Tofie!

Tight on, Diva!

I don't see why PJ should give up his heart's calling and get her as his consolation prize. = an abomination

Lila

Tight on? Hmmm. . .I could start a new slang phrase/craze?

Except I mean, "Right on, Diva!"

Lila

Hellashelle, I agree. There are enough evil-doers in this series for that to begin now, starting with Prudencia.

Humberto has more than ample grounds for divorce and will not have to pay her a damned thing when she ends up in the slammer. Whatever she brought to the marriage in terms of money can go to Vile... until she ends up in the slammer for attempted murder. Humberto will need a shrink when he finds out about that.

Just as Cristobal will need a shrink when he finds out about all his parents' crimes.

At this stage I almost hope that Emanuel never finds out who his parents are/were. While he deserves to have loving sibs, he doesn't deserve to know that his mother was the town slut and his father a monster.

Maybe Humberto should call on the head of the medical school he attended and ask for graduating psychologists looking to relocate. They can find a place like the one Renato did and open a thriving practice.

Lila - LOL! My parents use tight to mean anything from tipsy to drunk. So if we're playing the slut vocab drinking game (or if we're Pru on any day, at any time), so TIGHT ON INDEED! To the patio for more margaritas!

UA - Maybe Humberto should call on the head of the medical school he attended and ask for graduating psychologists looking to relocate. They can find a place like the one Renato did and open a thriving practice. Right on! at one point, I think the Candy House was supposed to open a practice, no?

Also, when Val was whining to her dad about Pru taking him to the cleaners, can anyone tell me why he didn't say "what difference does that make; you're her daughter too. Even more so than mine."? (I get that since she and Pru refuse to work, everyone thinks her demand of El Sant makes sense, but they act like Pru getting the money means Val won't be able to touch it at all, as opposed to the arrangement now. Why?)

Dear hellashelle ,

Thanks so much for that fun recap. I am not finished reading it yet, but I had to give a quick shoutout for "tn twist and shout." Loved it even better than the horizontal mambo or the bunnyhop. Now, back to your snappy recap.

HellaShelle, I know it's personal and not business, but to have Mari bragging about how she's going to steal Pato, in public like that...who wants someone like that working for them? Lila, I agree, Lola needs to say something to Pato before Mari causes trouble for the entire office.

tofie, I'm so disappointed in myself. I didn't even consider this: "El Solitario - you try standing in a tin can all day for a 30 second shot" And I've been there.

Lol, cathyx, I thought that cop looked familiar :D

Urban Anthropologist, keeping Em nearby meant they could actively make sure he never found out who his parents were. If he was far away, they couldn't filter the information available to him as efficiently. There would be no way of knowing, three towns over, that he was getting curious and close to the truth.

I disagree that "his mother was the town slut and his father a monster" is really going to bother Emmanuel. He heard the rumors about Roberta just like everyone else in town, and when he saw her on the bridge he showed kindness and compassion. I think he's going to be more bothered by finding out both his biological parents killed people. And that Sev is also a rapist. That's something he and Cris are going to have to come to terms with. The fact that Roberta had a sex life? Who cares.

HellaShelle, I like "Game of Drones: A Shower of Anvils" and I hope that's what we get!

Good point about them both having killed. That will bother him big time and there will be no way to keep Sev's killings a secret once they come to first light. He's been clever about this for a long time, but even the confessional stunt will come back and bite him on the arse before the next 25 episodes pass.

Cristobal and Aldonza will both be devastated over that, too. The three of them will need each other if Emanuel survives this story. I am starting to have my doubts about that because these things have a tendency to get even darker before the end.

We should soon be getting to the point where Simoneta's body surfaces. I think that Pato and co. will investigate matters in St Miguel and find out that nobody's seen her. We can only hope that there is a way to prove that she hadn't entered her house in however long it's been since she left it for SL.

OFF TOPIC: Joan Sebastian died of cancer.

When I watched Silvia thinking back to her kiss with Renato, all I could think of was Renato has NEVER kissed Aldonza like that and he's supposed to be madly in love with her.

I won't be surprised if Sev shortchanged or cheated Don Antonio, and Antonio hasn't forgotten it.

My thoughts about PJ telling Cande that he would have married her if he hadn't gone into the seminary was that I hope he did that so that she will be more likely to turn on Sev when the time comes, because I thought it was a cruel thing to tell her otherwise.

Well, cathyx I think Ren hasn't kissed Allie like that because he's taking things slowly knowing what she's gone through. I think his instinct knows he has to treat her very gently and take it easy with her. That said though, at some point, he has to get she just isn't responding back. No passion.

tofie, I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE your wish list. I'll just say DITTO!!

Pru's sense of immunity and privilege for being one of the town's top socialites and the doctor's wife is almost headache worthy. I think all the booze has killed far too many brain cells.

Still say it will be tough to swallow at the end of this when all the truths are revealed if suddenly the demise of Sev and whatever happens to the other shrews makes everything all right and the three siblings are suddenly all smiles. There will be some major hurt, betrayal and heartache to be dealt with. Almost hope there is some sort of fast forward that allows for everyone to have gotten time to come to grips with the truths, move on a bit with their lives, and then progress to new relationships. But this is TN'ville...not counting on it.

Hellashelle, this was fabulous.

I smiled as soon as I read Pato and Lola are getting married! One of them’s happy about it. Indeed! At first, it looked like Lola could barely stand for him to kiss her. Your “In fact, she looks like she swallowed something worse than a ring” said it perfectly.

PJ says Cande would be the woman of his life…if he hadn’t become a priest. Ummm, you don’t mean you feel that NOW padre, do you?? You are talking about the far distant past, correct?

I cheered Adi for handling Flavia’s viciousness so well. I had thought Flavia might be changing (wrong again). Sigh.

Sev is going to show no mercy on Eman. I hope Cris is going to try and go to his friend's aid. He needs some diversion from his own problems. I'm gravely afraid for Eman - Thank heavens for Toño.

Diana, "PJ says Cande would be the woman of his life…if he hadn’t become a priest. Ummm, you don’t mean you feel that NOW padre, do you?? You are talking about the far distant past, correct?"

My guess, he's kinda making his goodbye rounds and I got the feeling when PJ told Cande that, it was about the girl and boy that loved each other years ago. Before, he disappeared, leaving Cande a mess, and likely believed he would never return but he did and knowing he will leave forever this time wanted them both to have closure.

So am I the only one that thinks the writers are backtracking?

It feels like the more they need to stall and explain Cande this past relationship becomes a bigger deal.

I haven't seen the episodes so I may be off. But geez he shows up and it's "do you remember me?" Which ok, we decided was ironic. But then she says how much he hurt her when he left and he looks at her like she's crazy.

Er. Pardon me. I'm taking about PJ and Cande. Sorry to expect everyone to mind-read.

tofie, I think your explanation is exactly the right answer to why the Padre would make that remark to Cande at this point in time. He is saying goodby (again) and is trying for closure. Thank you so much.

I don't think Cande ever got over him or ever will. As you pointed out Sara, he looks at her as though she is crazy...He does not understand the depths to which she loved him...

If he had not become a priest, and they had gotten together, Cande's life might have been very different. I believe she knows that, hence some of her despair.

Diana

It just seems so odd to me that this otherwise sensitive and caring man can be such a great minister to his flock, but totally blew it with Cande. I guess he learned the skill, but something is ringing false with me.

And I just like to kvetch about writers.

What more could he have done at the time? He liked this girl, but he LOVED God, with a capital "L". Don't think he was thinking about much else than getting himself to the seminary when he got the calling. Cande got married and started a family. Of course it's shocking to him that she's still carrying a torch after all this time. Perhaps had he come back and found her a spinster wearing black, he would have caught on sooner that she never got over their high school relationship, but as things appeared (married, with child) it seems ridiculous. I get why he was so shocked by it.

There were also complaints from Roberta when Jero first got back that he just abandoned his little brother Ray and the land when he became a priest. Again, like with Cande, these are not things he had a choice about. He had to leave it ALL behind when he was called to be a priest. It's called a calling and not a choice for a reason.

All of this is to say that he's wasn't being insensitive at the time when he left for the seminary. But he truly had higher priorities. The highest, if you are a religious person.

What I like about this priest, PJ, is he admits his human frailty, and I buy he struggled with his decision and his life's path and when he left Cande, he tried to block that alternative world as a way to cope. Returning, brought all that roaring to the surface.

I'm honestly just looking at the writing. Up to this point they haven't done a good job of showing the "calling" part. I guess it's something I would have liked to have seen addressed before now.

I don't disagree with anything you are saying, Vivi.

Diana and Hellashelle:
I wuz gobsmacked hearing PadreJ tell Cande that if he hadn't become a priest, "she would have been the love of his life". In previous episodes, PadreJ made it sound like they never had a serious relationship. Please writers, don't go there!

The crescendo is building slowly but surely; my delight in this show remains untarnished except for disappointment in Ald and Chris. Sometimes they remind me of the leads in TSTSNBN: back and forth, back and forth over the same ground. Meh.

Weighing in on PJ/Cande, and I'm probably not saying anything that hasn't already been said in some form, but my overall impression was that, yes, they grew up together (making the "do you remember me" line a total goof on the part of the writers, or the director, because the delivery sounded like he had no reason to expect that she would remember him), but he didn't have romantic feelings for her. He didn't feel the need to check with her before he went off to the seminary because he had no conflict about that at all--he was born to be a Padre, he had no doubts, and off he went. Telling her that if he hadn't had feelings for God, she would have been the love of his life comes off to me like saying she would have been the love of his life by default because who else did he hang out with who would have been even a remote possibility? Not like "I really did have a thing for you, I just loved God more."

And that inscription on the picture. That's another thing I just didn't buy. It felt weird.

Hellashelle: love love love your recap.
PadreJ, "I'm glad that deep down inside theres a human thing trying to survive". HA!
Lets pray that that thing is HUMAN. Cause so far animals treat people better than these so called humans do. And she (cande says "I'm not a murderer". Well theres more than one way to murder someone. Words can destroy a life. Cande is good at spreading manure.
When he (padre J) told her she would have been the woman for him, had he not became a priest, well maybe she would have been a better person, MAYBE!! I think he dodged a bullet.
Clueless Hum, he's been that way all his married miserable life.
Sev, Don Tono, cande, that would be a good mystery to unravel.
Ally is in a sad state, and so is cris. I wish he was disgusted with him long before now. But theres stuff he didn't know or he closrd his eyes to. But better late than never. He better do something before they kill his wife. Cause she already bout to give up. Somebody need to do something and stand up to sev, cande, and that sluty vile, and her loud mouth stupid moma.
To be truthful alley and cris had the deck stacked against them before they were even born. But hey things are looking up I know it looks bad but this is what happens when things are really dark they're lookin up. :-D

What was it again, "For the most beautiful woman in Santa Lucia"? I think he could say that without it meaning anything beyond what it said--he thought she was beautiful.

The biggest possibility is that I'm just being dense. I just got it in my head very early on that Cande and Padre didn't have a history and I can't seem to stop thinking that way :)

That's the show giving us mixed signals. And maybe changing mid-stream what the "story" was going to be.

What I have a problem with is that PJ tells her now about being the love of his life back in the day. What was the purpose of telling her this information when it's over and done with? She's been painfully carrying a torch for him all these years, he knows that now, and telling her what could have been will only bring more pain to her at this point. Now she'll ruminate even more about what could have been between them. If it was left up in the air about his true feeling for her, (or I dare say even tell her that she wasn't to him what he seems to have been for her) then she could have been convinced that she's been harboring feelings that may not have been reciprocated and may have been more likely to move on once he moves on. I look at his voicing this as a hurtful move.

Well, it's similar to Aldonza telling Renato's father that "if" she hadn't fallen in love with Cris she "could have" fallen in love with Renato (or however she put it). It sounds like you're trying to say a nice thing, but really there's no point saying it. She was about to marry Cris. Save the "I could fall in love" talk for when the obstacle isn't there. Padre telling Cande this makes even less sense. I don't see his dedication to God evaporating any time soon. Why get into what could have been, "if..."?

I think PJ will try to save Cande, even Dominga still sees a small part of the girl she loved buried down deep and one of the reasons she returned to the house. I could watch 20 episodes exploring PJ's history and life (including Cande) and they can throw the Cris and Aldonza show in the waste bin.

Wonder why Aldonza didn't tell Lola she told Cris about the rape but not who done it and why didn't Lola suggest she tell her new bo, Renato. Lola otherwise is supportive of hooking up with him as a alternative to Cris and intimacy will come up. How can Aldonza truly give Renato a fair shot if she doesn't disclose her main issue with Cris or perhaps any man?

Oversight or technicality? Was she interpreting "Who else knows?" as "Who else knows the whole story?" Or was it a writing goof?

As her boyfriend, I don't think I mind Aldonza not saying anything until they're actually thinking about having sex.

As her lawyer and someone who keeps taking on the responsibility of protecting her from Sev, I think he does need to know, so that he understands the full scope of what she's dealing with.

J, "In previous episodes, PadreJ made it sound like they never had a serious relationship. Please writers, don't go there!" I agree that the writers have turned back and are attempting to "heat" things up when the fire never existed in the first place. If he did not become a priest, his words indicated that he might indeed have fallen in love with Cande but I don't think anything of the sort actually happened. I think he meant his words as salve on a wound, but again, I still don't think he has any idea how deeply in love with him she was.

tofie, you are absolutely right. Unless Aldonza tells the terrible secret, she will never have a full open relationship with any man. I would add therapy but this is a TN and as others have stated, fear they will bring on the happy ending without the help that would be critical in "real" life.

Diana

Hella, thank you for the recap, I have to fess up to not watching the episodes because the recaps are just so much better!

Vivi- soda came out of my nose when I read the "mob for hire" line!

J and Diana- you have both expressed better how I am feeling about the Padre/Cande storyline. It's what I was trying to say above.

But Kat, that is what had me twisted around so had to go with what I thought should be said. Renato is all the above, attorney, bff, snuggle partner, bo, potential husband, lover, business partner. He should know, hell he should have known before Cris and certainly before Lola who will let it slip out.

Sara - I agree. I was also taken aback by PJ's comment to Cande. I do think the closure theory makes sense. I also think he was trying to bridge the gap in her mind. Cande doesn't take criticism or rejection well. I think PJ was trying to impress on her the fact that there was nothing wrong with her, he liked her a lot, thought she was beautiful and wasn't rejecting her so much as accepting his calling.

Tofie - I don't know. If I were struggling with a rape, I don't think I'd tell my attorney unless I was pressing charges about that rape and I don't think I'd tell a new boyfriend either, especially if I'm only lukewarm about him. Until then, he's only slightly above any other guy I might date in terms of being a potential intimate partner. Now that she's told Lola (a friend of many years), I think she'll become more comfortable about sharing with Renato and the rest of the world.

Oh, Lola's going to let it slip. Not carelessly so much as she's just going to start seeing more of the sinister intent behind Sev's behavior and she's just not going to be able to take it anymore.

Oh, it's totally her business when she wants to say it, and nobody had better give her a hard time about "Why didn't you tell me before?" but from the POV that Renato, as her lawyer, might be able to do his job better if he had all the facts I don't like him not knowing.

Another issue to be taken up in therapy would be the sense of guilt I hear Aldonza expressing which I understand is not uncommon: Her reason for not telling Cris that Sev raped her is that Cris would kill his own father and SHE could not live with that. If Cris kills his dad, that would be Cris's decision and if Cris decided that was a just punishment for Sev, SEV is responsible for having raped her! Cris will be all kinds of crushed when he finds out as I graphically described yesterday and if Renato went to get in Sev's face for the shooting, what will he do when he finds out about the rape. He will go ballistic!

But again, I will be shocked if Loose Lips Lola does not let the rape "slip" thus causing all hell to break loose and somehow it being in favor of Sev. How? No proof. Her "crazy" and "paranoid" word against his; his "getting a chance" to kill Renato who will surely be the one to go after Sev before Cris does.

If Aldonza didn't feel comfortable with her business partner and bf then tell Silvia, she'd get that scum bag, even it it took a filet knife. Aldonza didn't even disclose the near miss at Simoneta's place, the guy's gonna keep abusing women till someone takes him down. Caveat: never a victim of rape, I really don't know what I would do, perhaps crawl into a hole, don't know.

Yesterday was the first time Aldonza used the can't tell Cris or he'll kill his daddy excuse, right?

I don't know if she's said it before, but the idea was there...I think...maybe it was just me.

I like the idea of telling Silvia. Shoot, even just asking Silvia as a hypothetical..."If...what are the legal options? And what would likely happen?"

This is the problem with Sev. He can't just be put away. He'll find some way to manipulate himself right back out. He pretty much has to die for the sake of public safety. I'd just rather it didn't happen at the hands of someone who will have to deal with the aftermath.

Tofie- Well, it was the first time she openly spoke to someone about it, so yes it was the first time she said that. But we could tell that's how she felt when she told Cris about the rape, and he went ballistic and wanted to go kill the bastard right then and there, before she could finish telling him the whole truth. That's when she decided she couldn't tell him the whole truth.

Remember, most rape victims don't tell ANYONE what happened. I imagine it's possibly more difficult if you have a "reputation", however unwarranted it might be.

What continues to shock me, however, is that she's not looking to get proof. She knows what he did. He knows what he did. It would be pretty easy to mention it when they are alone AND GET IT ON TAPE. I don't know about anyone else, but that would've been the only thing on my mind after Sev knocked Camilo out and licked Aldonza: get cameras installed. I have no idea why she doesn't. Even without knowing about the rape, mentioning any of his other assaults - heck, even just asking for it for security - I don't doubt Ren would whip out that checkbook and have state of the art equipment in there before the end of the day. Regardless of how much I like Cris, Ren loves Aldonza and he, at least, doesn't hesitate to take action when she's threatened. Plus, he knows the importance of good evidence.

Regardless of how much I like Cris, Ren loves Aldonza and he, at least, doesn't hesitate to take action when she's threatened.

True, which is why he will probably die defending/avenging her.

And yes, it is maddening that not only is therapy not mentioned but you're right, Hella, there are NO efforts to get any proof whatsoever. Even setting the cell phone to record would work especially since she understandably freezes when he threatens her.

I don't know. I need to leave this subject alone. It drives me crazy. It was totally unnecessary as a plot device and almost caused me to bail despite being on the recap team. I hate it!

"It was totally unnecessary as a plot device.... So much word!!!!

Thanks a Million, hellashelle!

"I’m about to get pissed about yet another villain calling to spew foolishness and then hanging up, when Adelina not only defends herself, but gets the last word." This really was the best scene last night, am I right?

I've noticed a Mari-pertinent pattern in the comments and would love to contribute to it. I say as well that she get an anvil and if there's a piano hanging from the ceiling for whatever reason, then by all means, cut the cords right after directing her towards the big, red, masking tape X to stand on. Then again, that past-it's-prime cowlick she dons probably renders her invincible. From the first time I ever saw this show and her in the theme song with that sultry-as-succotash expression putting those grubby hands all over Eman with Lola just stewing in the background, I knew she was going to be a bitch.

Speak Truth, ER! HA! I just hope they don't let Mari carry on her antics all the way up until Lola marries either Pato or Emanuel, you know, that she's at the wedding putting a banana peel on the bridal path of something stupid like that! ;o)

I think the writers are backtracking. When Candela first spoke of her feelings for Jeronimo he looked taken by surprise. That led me to think that she wrote the inscription on the back of that photo. This would make sense to the story because of her delusions about other things.

As to disclosure about the rape, the fact that few victims tell is a point that this series isn't making. Since Sev can slime his way out of anything the only thing that will stop him is a bullet, a knife, or any other lethal weapon. It's better that this weapon not be in Cristobal or Aldonza's hands. The only hands that will not cause their consciences trouble will be that of the police chief.

Thank you hellashelle for the awesome recap!

Sorry not sorry but I don't feel bad for Eman in this particular situation. Yeah Severiano is an evil monster who needs a major anvil and Eman is a gentle soul who deserves his happy ending but it's one thing to steal an expensive horse to save it's life and it's another to then enter that stolen horse into competitions and profit from it. Eman is in the wrong and I can't fault Sev for taking the opportunity and running with it.

I definitely think there's inconsistencies with the picture being painted of Candela/PJ's past. His confession to her that if he hadn't become a priest that she was the woman he would have chosen to spend his life with is on par with the inscription on the back of the photo Cande had from him. However, if we are to believe that they had something going on in the past and both expressed feelings for one another, PJ's 'are you nuts girl? QTH!' reaction to her during her love confession at the church doesn't make much sense at all. Perhaps the actor, not knowing the full backstory the characters would be given, played the scene wrong? I don't know...but what I do know is that it's hard for me to back this story or get invested given the fact that without knowing the actual actors' ages, the one playing PJ looks a solid decade+ older than the one playing Cande so it's tough to buy that they grew up together and are supposed to be about the same age. Um, no.
