La Sombra del Pasado #122 (Mx 125) Thursday 8/6 Check Out The Junk In Her Trunk*

*This title inspired by doris

My cat is sick. He's been to the vet and he's not acting any better. I am in spaz mode right now and I really didn't pay close attention to the episode. Here's what I remember (in no particular order.) I will come back in the morning with a real recap.

Aldonza does not shoot Sev. I guess I should be glad about that since protagonistas don't murder, but I wouldn't have held it against her. She was in a church though...so yeah...bad.

Hum is one hell of a general practitioner. He's performed surgery (amputation, vascular surgery) and now he's participating in Adelina's autopsy. I am pleasantly surprised that they are able to determine that Adelina's death was a homicide. There were no traces of pills in her stomach. It must have been injected. I seem to recall it was ácido bariburico. It's like Ley y Orden exploded all over SL.

The police come to interview Sev. Val claims he was with her. Sev asks why she did that. All I remember is things got skeevy. Did she say something like they were a powerful team? I know that kiss on his cheek was gross.

Aldonza tells Cris what she knows: Ray attacked Sev with a machete and Roberta shot Ray.

Cris confronts Hum about the story behind Ray's death, but I can't remember anything more than that. I'll get more detail tomorrow.

Cris then talks to Cande about it. She says she kind of suspected that Sev's accident was more than an accident, but she didn't investigate further.

Cande and Sev have a fight. He grabs her neck brace. She's saved by Sev's phantom pain.

The divorce papers arrive for Cris. Val thinks Cris should be happy about it. Cris tells her that if they had married, he probably would have choked her on the second day.

Val goes to see Padre J. She whines about Cris not marrying her. She questions his morality. He reminds her she and the Cris are the ones that have had a moral slip. Ha!

Val delivers her ultrasound to Cande. Much to Cande's delight, the baby is healthy and Val is as far along as Cande calculated. So Val got some fake results.

Aldonza tells Renato to put El Sant all in Em's name.

Silvia can see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She and Tomas look really happy!

Lola gives her grandparents a hard time about staying at Las Animas.

Uriel signs papers with the loan shark and asks who paid the interest. The loan shark won't tell.

Em decides to stay with Aldonza. She asks for a little alone time first so he goes to ride Solitario. Things gets a little "high ho Silver!", but it's all good...until he happens upon two boys trying to drag the coffin table ashore. They say it's treasure and Em helps them open it. Nope. No treasure here! He sends the kids to go get the police. Em is certain Sev is guilty. Det. Incompetente has a nice little monologue about not believing anything about Sev without proof, but that he will make sure justice is served.

Sara - oh noes! I hope your kitty will be okay. There is nothing worse than a sick pet because they can't tell us how they feel or where it hurts. (((Hugs))). THANK YOU for the recap and so early, so we can start the discussion.

All I can say is ... Finally! Simometa's trunk is found!

When Val gave the detective an alibi for Sev, I wanted to throw something at my TV. That witch!

Cande has yet another color coordinated neck brace. Has any other telenovela character ever had color coordinated neck braces? Clearly these are scarves, but, still ...

Thanks doris. I'm starting to think kitty will get better if I leave him alone. I might be hovering.

And thank you too for inspiring tonight's title! I've pretty much given up trying to write titles anymore, but thanks to you I had a lightning bolt moment!

Ummm....not sure how I inspired the clever title unless too much carrot cake will cause thE junk in my trunk. LOL

SARA: Thank you for getting up the recap despite being so worried about your kitty. It's impossible to concentrate on anything when something goes wrong with our animals, isn't it? Sending my big hugs along with Doris's. All good wishes for your kitty, hope to hear good news tomorrow that he is better. >^^<

doris: "Finally! Simometa's trunk is found" Got me thinking about "junk in her trunk.

J in O: Exactly. He started acting oddly on Tuesday afternoon, he went to the vet on Wednesday and they couldn't find any major issues beyond a thyroid issue and he's still just lethargic and not eating or drinking much. And I can't relax.

Dear Sara, I am so sorry your fur child is sick. Sending lots of hugs and prayers that he feels better shortly.

It was so generous of you to do this short but sensational recap - thank you for doing this when your mind and heart are elsewhere. doris, you put it so well - it is so hard to know when our pets are in pain and what is wrong when they can't tell us.

Your comments were wry and witty: "Aldonza does not shoot Sev. I guess I should be glad about that since protagonistas don't murder, but I wouldn't have held it against her. She was in a church though...so yeah...bad" and "Things gets a little "high ho Silver!", but it's all good" made me smile.

This was the only episode I've seen this week. I was shocked at what has occurred (not watching really puts exactly how much happens in clear perspective). I hope to watch some of the episodes and look forward to reading the recaps. Thank you in advance to the wonderful recappers.

I wasn't sure what would happen to Adelina but the murder was rather shocking even though it became fairly clear she always loved and still did love Ray and that there would likely be no happy ending for her.

I hope Simoneta has found peace. There will be none for Lola...

Silvia focusing in on Tomas when her bandages were removed was great. They were so happy. I thought I sensed a brief moment of regret from Renato but if he was upset or jealous, it was hard to tell. It was obvious he cares for Silvia but just how much and in what manner have yet to be revealed.

Although we knew (yet hoped) Al would not pull the trigger, I think Sev has overplayed his hand and his downward spiral has begun in earnest.

We can only hope.

Diana

OMG - fabulous, fabulous title.

Diana

Thank you Diana. One think I love about Caray (among many things) is that many of us seem to be animal lovers and we understand each other when there are pet problems.

"....still did love Ray and that there would likely be no happy ending for her."

Aldonza had a wonderful line tonight talking to a picture of Ray. She told him another angel would be arriving in heaven and she asked Ray to take care of her.

Sara, much love and good vibes to your kitty from me and my monsters and thank you for the recap!

I don't know what it was about this episode, but it had me giggling--possibly inappropriately--throughout. I'm laughing already about Aldonza not shooting Sev, 'cause I agree, I think we knew she wouldn't but...darn!

Annnnd you found me another reason to laugh at the Big Reveal...why is Humberto doing an autopsy?! Aw, they tried so hard to build suspense in that scene and it just was not working for me.

Yes, Val was totally hitting on Sev...gross!

I'm relieved about Silvia and oh yeah, she was so happy to see Tomas...eat your heart out "galanes."

"They say it's treasure and Em helps them open it. Nope. No treasure here!" Aaaaaaaaaaaah! They're going to be scarred for life! That was so wrong! I kept screaming "Don't open it!" And probably, yeah, telling the kids to go to the cops and say NOTHING to anyone else on the way--good move! But the thought that two innocent kids were running to Santa Lucia, unprotected, with news of one of Sev's murder victims without knowing it...just gives me the creeps!

Thank you again, and I hope your kitty starts feeling better soon!

Thanks, Diva. I can look back on what I watched and you're right. Now that I think about it, there was a kind of ridiculousness to a lot of it. The coffin table scene was kind of tense to me, but nothing else seemed to strike me as edge of my seat.

Can anyone explain why they slathered Silvia's eyes with goop?

Slow clap on that title...so wrong...so right....

doris, I think Dominga was right when she said something the other night about Cande liking the neck brace because it gives her a way to make Cris feel guilty. And then accessorizing it on top of that. I don't know whether to admire it or roll my eyes. I'll do both.

Diana, I agree, Sev has overplayed his hand and he can't even see it. Gosh, that's just terrible :D

Was the goop some extra anti-inflammatory something? I dunno.

It just adds to the stress that the little furballs can't just TELL us what's wrong. It's hard to stay calm.

Sara- Oh no! I had hoped your kitty was on the mend. Sending good vibes. Thank you for the quickie recap despite the stress and worry.

I think Hum just observed the medical examiner, and wasn't the one who performed the autopsy. Otherwise they wouldn't have bothered to have the examiner there. I think he insisted on being there as part of his and Renato's pact to get to the bottom of things.

I noticed that Renato, Hum, and the lead detective all lied to Al, Cris, and Eman when they asked if there was any evidence if it was suicide vs murder. They all knew by that point that the lack of pills in the stomach, and the injection mark in her neck meant Ade had been murdered. Why hide it from them?

In addition to giving her abuelos a hard time about continuing to live in the nest of scorpions, Lola also put out the theory that Sever is hiding Simoneta somewhere so that he can steal her baby, like he did to Eman. Like Cris, Dom and Mel seem to have trouble imagining the full depravity of their bosses. Well, now the coffin table has popped up, so we'll how long before they realize the corpse is Sim.

Sara, "Aldonza had a wonderful line tonight talking to a picture of Ray. She told him another angel would be arriving in heaven and she asked Ray to take care of her". Wow - tears are welling up.

Kat, "I'm relieved about Silvia and oh yeah, she was so happy to see Tomas...eat your heart out "galanes." Exactly - perfect.

Diana

Vivi, I can think of one reason to lie about whether Adelina was murdered or not--keep anyone from flying off the handle, going after Sev, and giving him a chance to cover his tracks better than he already has. It buys them more time to investigate.

True, Kat. Well now Vile has given him an alibi, without him even asking. Argh!

Thanks, Vivi! I must have been staring at the cat when Hum was lying to Cris and Al abou the autopsy. Thanks for that information. And I just made the assumption Hum helped because he seems to be the go to doctor for everything. I just remembered he was Sim's in a pinch OB/GYN too.

Diana-I teared up when Aldonza asked Ray to take care of Ade, too.

Diva-Excellent theory! Both Aldonza and Em seem to have inherited the Roberta fly off the handle gene.

Vivi, "Like Cris, Dom and Mel seem to have trouble imagining the full depravity of their bosses".

Yes. Very true. And very sad...I've wondered for some time what Dominga's reaction will be once Cande's duplicity is revealed. The one person who has loved Cande staunchly and fiercely is Dominga. She is the only person to tell her when she'd done wrong and rebuke her. But she continues to love her. I don't know what will happen once the roof caves in and Cande's deeds are apparent. Perhaps losing Dom's love will be one of the harshest punishments Cande will have to endure.

Diana

Argh! is right, Vivi. And doris brought that up to...QTH, Val?! Hey, how's that for a PSA...don't lie to give someone an alibi unless they ask you to do it and you know what they were really doing at the time. I don't know what happens if she says "I take it back!" I mean, what did she think he was doing? Shagging somebody in town? Does she just not care?!

Sara you done good piecing this together with what you had, not bad girl. Thank you for this much. I hope kitty gets better soon.♡♥♡♥♡♥♡:-)
I think sev is a coward, he wants to commit suicide, but he wants someone else to pull the trigger. He was practically begging ally to shoot him. The creature is torchered and he wants to be put out of his and everybody else's misery. He's dead inside. But his anvils are descending. It ain't gonna be pretty yall, I don't care, I want him gone. Soon. Now would be good.
Poor lola, shes about to get hit. Shes got Emi or pato and grandma and grandpa. Lucky girl.
Severiano, here comes the BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They couldn't prove it was murder, no proof.
She could have injected the drug? Crap!!!!
But she didn't. Ok next!!!! }:-[

sara, "Both Aldonza and Em seem to have inherited the Roberta fly off the handle gene." *sniff* It's like a little bit of The Flirty Skirted One lives on in both of them.

Were they trying to evoke the scene where Em walked Roberta home and they had their Llamada de la Sangre moment out at the gate by having Em and Aldonza have their "I love you bro/sis" moment in almost the same place? 'Cause I may have gotten a little misty there, not gonna lie.

Also asked Ren, and he told her there was nothing yet. Cris asked Hum in his office an He said the same thing. And then the detective followed the same company line when Eman asked him at the riverbank. It's like the three of them decided on a script in order to keep Al and company in the dark about the real results. I do understand about trying to keep Al and Eman from flying off the handle, but they are Adelina's family and have the right to know the truth about her death.

Al not Also.

You know, I almost wrote "fly off the handle twirly skirt gene" until I realized neither Em nor Aldonza wear skirts.

LOL! Now I'm picturing Eman in a skirt.

Sara, I believe one does not always wear The Twirly Skirt. Sometimes The Twirly Skirt is a state of mind....

Vivi, hmmm, that is a LOT of cooperation going on there. Is it possible he also doesn't want them to know--I mean the MP, lead detective, Incompetente, whatever his name is--because he's worried that if he can't get enough evidence he'll be facing Aldonza's wrath again? Or letting her down? I don't know if he'd get quite that sentimental about it, but he does seem to be taking things a bit differently.

Oh, gee, thanks, Vivi. I just pictured him shirtless, in a kilt. Is it warm in here? Somebody pass me the carrot cake.

Oh, Kat. Thank you. That is a great mental image to go to sleep with.

Some sweet, sweet dreams, indeed!

Yay!!!!!!!!! she has risen, (simonetta) smelly but risen.
Glad silvy can see. Be glad when cris can. Ok to bed with me, I'll comment some more tomorrow. Nighty night people.

If I ever have to wear a neck brace, I am definitely going to follow Cande's fashion lead and wrap it with scarves that match my outfit. I have never seen that done before.

Thanks, Nina!

Vivi-I kind of hope you never have to follow Cande's fashion lead. Stay safe and watch where you're walking. :-)

I know they'll do funky colors for casts now instead of plain white, but yeah, I have never seen anyone try to make a neck brace look like a fashion accessory. She's got style, whatever else she's got.

So Vivi in DC, are you saying they know she was murdered and they are keeping it hush hush until theres proof? GOOD!!!!!!
Ok now I'm realyl going to bed.:-)

Really going to bed.
↑←←not realyl. ;-)

Nina- Yes. Those three conversations all happened after the autopsy results. Adelina certainly didn't injected herself in the neck, then discard the needle and liquid drug, and then stage the pills and pill bottle, before she then croaked. I think it would have been more accurate for them to tell Al and Eman that the circumstances were suspicious, but instead they all played dumb.

Did they find the needle mark in Ad's neck?
I will miss the Friday episode, oh no!
But SARA I will be checking the comments, and hope there is an update on your kitty.
>^^<
J in O

sara, thank you for the recap. i hope your furbaby is better soon...i know how nervewracking it can be when they are sick. we have two dogs and a kitteh and i worry when they seem "off", so i can empathize with you.

i am so glad simonetta/viv finally was found.

i was so hoping cris would catch sev with his hand on candela's neck. i was sort of hoping Sev's pain was not phantom arm pain but a heart attack. i think cande was, too, the way she stood there, just watching.

it has always been good, but now it is REALLY getting gooooooooood!

Gracias, Sara. My kitties and I are praying to Bastet to help yours. I know how hard this is.

The medical examiner said that the pills did not match what they found in Adelina's body and that they found the needle puncture. The pills were stuff found on the black market and the detective speculated that Sev could have had the connexions to get something like this.

Whether Humberto participated or only observed makes no difference; nothing here looks comparable to what happens here in the US. It is beautifully ironic that after having falsified an autopsy report on Padre Sixto that he would be present to help validate the actual facts of Adelina's death.

I agree that they're keeping this under wraps for Aldonza's safety.

Oh Sara, my two furballs are sending all their kitty powers of positive thinking to your BKF (Best Kitty Friend). Add mine too. Thanks for even bothering to spend time on us and giving us a great succinct recap. <<<>>>

Yes, Simonetta has risen. Guesses with E-man being the one who found the box with the kids, this will be the road to Lola hookup. Removing all throwables from my reach. Sorry, I would just love to see him with someone else, no offense to Lola, but they really aren't a good match emotionally. Oh well.

I get not telling all the suspected details in this case to Allie only because of past experience with the way everyone is seeking vengeance on each other. Until they have something confirmed, best not to pull Allie into suspicions. She was one moment away from pulling a trigger on Sev. I think Inspector Getting Better has had about enough of all these weird events all pointing to one person and he can't get the proof to lock the bastard away. He looked like he was at the end of his rope with E-man.

I'm not so sure I would call that guy a loan shark...he seemed rather business like and pretty respectful talking to Uriel. Bet he's just some private loan purveyor, and they usually do charge higher interest, and the other dude was a collections guy. Except for Lola paying off the interest, not sure where all this was heading. Filler.

So I guess that was the end of Vero and Don A if E-man is staying?

Best scene--Sylvia SEES!!!! Loved the three leather clad musketeers all lined up for support. Now, did I have a little beanie implode how it was done (with a friend who went through surgery, the room was darkened so as not to shock) and her oh so lovely eye lashes with mascara...but hey, it was the spirit of the moment. Her glee at seeing Tomas first thing was awesome. Now don't mess them up writers...(why do I not feel so trusting?)

Daisynjay

I'm confused. Amongst themselves, do the docs think it was NOT a suicide? I had trouble following their discussion with the detective and didn't have on CCs. They found the needle hole on her neck. But nobody found the syringe.....

Considering the angle of the injection, it would have been highly unlikely for a victim to self-inject. Self-injection would have more likely been done in an arm.

One more thing: No label on the pill bottle. A sleeping pill prescription would have a patient's name, a date, a pharmacy address, dosage, and a physician's name on it. Sev has finally slipped by not having stolen anything like that from Humberto's office.

Doris- The doctors do NOT think it was suicide, given the evidence.

I did screw that up on the recap. I've since gone back and changed it to read "they think I was homicide." My apologies!

"it was homicide"

Thank you, Sara! Well wishes, love and light to you and kitty!

I know I posted a comment and it's not here! Oh well. If you guys see it on another novela's board, please let me know.

If it's in spam it will get released too. I hope it turns up! You always have great comments. (As does everyone. I'm usually more the "mmm carrot cake" kind of commenter.)

#craving carrotcake

New avatar!

Kitty ate a little this morning and talked to my husband a bit. But then he hid behind a chair. So I'm not sure if it's progress or not. He sure doesn't like taking the tiny tiny thyroid pill. (what cat would though?)

Your new avatar ... Oh noes! Craving has ramped up. Glad kitty ate some brekkie. Good sign.

Hmmm, carrot cake. I haven't had carrot cake in years.

Sara- Loved your description of Eman's hi ho Silver moment. :) It was good to see him and Solitario reunited and happy together, and to hear Eman say he finally felt he belonged somewhere. You know, sure it would have been great for him to go off with Vero and Antonio. But I think he will be so much more fulfilled developing his own business, on HIS land, the place where he was actually born. This exactly what he's wanted his whole life- roots, family, a home, land, his horse.

You could crush the pill and put the powder into a little chicken broth and administer it in an oral syringe or eye dropper. I did that with previous cats.

Our dogs always I see their tongues to reject oral syringes. Don't know if cats are more compliant.

The carrot cakes at our area restaurants are always heavy. You can just see the fat grams in the stuff. Oy. Maybe this is a local preference? Never saw it that way until 20+ years ago. Before that, it was a normal cake consistency. They like to serve it warmed up, too.

I gotta get out and walk my miles. Am gaining weight just thinking about carrot cake. Oy vey.

Dogs always USED .... Thank you auto correct, you are my enema.

Sorry bout your kitty Sara hope he feels better today. I love kittys.

Great job though despite the angst, thank you big!

"he probably would have choked her on the second day" Oh, man that Val still believes she's gonna pull this off, even going to PJ. I wanted him to smack that haughty bitch.

Emanuel is a dapper dresser, though no twirly skirts, definitely Roberta's fashion sense.

Since it's a homicide I understand why they would not want the public to know the details right away. It's been one day.

Didn't appear to leave much of an impression on her, this was the first time Severiano has laid a hand on Cande.

The phantom pain is stupid

Not really complaining but was this supposed to be a love story? Feels like I've been watching "Friends"

The phantom pain is a real thing, but it should have started the day after the amputation, not 24 years later. It's about the nerves needing to adjust to the new situation.

Most of the episodes were written by male writers with no clue how to write love stories but who are enjoying Severiano's sadism.

While I've not experienced phantom pain I do know it is real and have done volunteer work in Cambodia and observed amputees from unexploded ordinance. I've never seen Severiano's histrionics so it must be the male writers over indulgence. It is that over indulgence it think stupid.

I do not think it is phantom pain, in this case. It began after Sev killed Simoneta. I think she never crossed over, and her ghost is doing this to him as punishment. It's a telenovela and beanie hat is firmly planted on my head.

The trick I had to resort to a few years back on pills with my one kitty was to use the only food she'll eat off the table ( and I allow) which is mashed potatoes ( but teeny amounts as a "treat"). Ground up the pill into a teeny amount and let her lick a couple little mounds off my finger which is how she likes it. I made a pack of instant and kept it in the fridge and only heated up enough to give her the pills through the week. Of course, I had to deal with the moaning and whining after the pills were done because she wanted a mashed potato treat every day after that. I got the evil stare a LOT for a few weeks.

Don't get me wrong on E-man, it was so nice to see him riding strong on Solitario and smiling again. I just wondered if that last look we had of Vero and Don A in the airport was then it. Seems sort of an abrupt end to them since they were a part of his story.

So back to work, but first I need to call my son and ask him to bop over the next block before he goes to work and get me a slice of the carrot cake that our Vegan bakery makes. I'm not vegan, but theirs will at least satisfy my craving and make me behave at the same time...maybe we can all get a craving for a spinach salad??

Daisynjay

I want to thank Count Alacran in advance for the information necessary to complete my Weekend Discussion post this morning. We will have our first-annual Perversity Pageant where we will bestow the Crown of Fire on our winner. It will post at noon.

BTW, Alexis Ayala's birthday is this Sunday; he will be 50.

Now that Emanuel will stay in SL to be Aldonza's protector due to the death of Adelina and the imminent departure of Padre Jeronimo I dearly hope he survives this tale and that the ride on Solitario isn't his last moment of happiness.

obviously sev didn't think this through. No name, no doctors name,no name of the meds, yall know, the usual stuff thats on a prescription Bottle. You're right (the person above that said Sev didn't put much thought into his plan). He Is slippin up. All that evil is exhausting. And when he falls he'll take val down with him, that happens when you lay down with the devil. She wasn't that far from it anyway. (Satans daughter adopted by sev). Our Eman is happy, he's so cute with that horse. HOORAY FOR THE GOOD GUYS, FINALLY!!!! :-):-D:-):-D:-):-D:-):-D♥♡♥♡

Urban- No way would the writers kill off Aldonza's one and only sibling, and one of two remaining relatives. I think killing off her father, mother, and aunt is quite enough for one tn.

I think since Hum is the one actively investigating Sever, and the writers have made much ado about his WILL, *duhn, duhn, duhn!*, he'll be next on Sever's elimination list.

Daisynjay- I have been on a kale salad kick all week. Fresh kale from the farmers market, with sweet cherry tomatoes from my dad's garden, and grilled salmon. Yum! I've made it for dinner each day this week.

Isn't there often a bit of divine retribution in tns, or some sort of divine intervention at times? I don't think we are meant to take Sever's phantom limb pain as a textbook case. Perhaps it's just a manifestation of the stress he's feeling (I won't say guilt, because he's incapable)because he's carefully constructed world is beginning to crumble. Perhaps it began with Al's return, and reached a crescendo when Sim/Viv threatened to turn his world upside down with her baby, and led to his unplanned murder of her.

I for one don't mind seeing him writhe in pain, because it seems like just a preview for something we won't get to see-- his time in Hell.

Oh-- Vivi that sounds delicious!! I made an arugala salad but with grilled shrimp earlier in the week. I'm trying to be good...really I am. But man, carrot cake? I'm not a big chocalate person, so that along with a coconut cream pie with a smooth whip cream topping are my two VERY guilty pleasures. Noone makes the pie like I love it around here -- I have to go down to a place in Amish country about an hour away, so that allows me to be good.

And yes, I agree, I think the last axe to fall will be on Hum. Seems that anyone who is either evil or had harbored the secrets that resulted in pain for our young 'uns is meeting their maker. That pretty well then will leave Sev and Cande. I think PJ is fine...as a priest, secrets are his business. can't punish him for that. And Val and Pru are just nasty, so though have to have some sort of good size anvil.

P.S. Seriously Captcha??? My verification is PIES???

Daisynjay

Good morning, Sara. Thanks for this recap, especially in the face of dealing with your sick kitty.

Boy, Sev is sinking into quicksand with every step he takes now. I am loving his arrogant view of life which belies his increasingly tenuous grip on reality.

Like you, Sara, I would have given Aldonza a pass if she would have pulled the trigger, and I think PJ would have too. "Woops, that pistol must have a hair trigger."

Se we finally get the coffin table, and some kids find it thinking they have discovered gold. Well, they did, but it isn't the kind they think it is.

Thank God they did an autopsy on Adelina and found all the info they will need to connect it to Sev as things unfold.

Our cruise on Kentucky Lake was great. Best one liner went to Madelyn:

Madelyn, sitting on my lap rummaging through my shirt pocket:

"What is this?"

Me: "My sunglasses."

Madelyn: "Why doesn't it have the things that go back to your ears?"

Me: "I wear glasses, so this just clips onto my glasses."

Madelyn: "Why do you wear glasses?"

Me: "Because my eyes don't work very well."

Madelyn: "And your ears don't work good either."

Thanks again, Sara. Also thanks to the rest of the recapping team for your work which allowed me to get back up to speed after being gone.

David

Welcome back, David! Loved that story. I'm sure it was such a joy to share that time with your grand kids.

I dearly hope that Humberto survives this story. This program has no listed writers in common with LQLVMR so I hope they don't copycat this character's fate with the one faced by the same actor in that series.

Humberto needs to fess up to something and request protection. Even if he ends up letting himself get arrested for any one or two of his listed actions he should be able to get Protective Custody of some kind. I'm sure if police in the US can make deals about turning state's evidence the Mexican police can manage that.

sara..Oh no you din't !!! Junk in the Trunk. Wow..You went there. Thanks for this descriptive essay on how the stew finally hits the fan. Poor Em.

sara..So sorry to hear about your pet. I hope that Kitty gets well soon. We hurt for our sick pets just as we do people we love.

Sara--You came through despite the adversity in your life. Thank you for giving us a thorough recap. My kitties long ago went to heaven and I miss them still. They add a dimension to our lives we can't imagine until they actually come into our lives. Hope yours is on the mend and gives you many more joyous years of companionship.

One scene we haven't expanded on is Cris having a heart-to-heart with Mommy. Sadly it went nowhere. She was all giggly lying there just waiting for her heart's desire to come see her and when he did, it was to grill her on her participation in the Sev-lost arm deal. She swears she only knew that he had fallen off his horse onto some farm implement (which Sev had cooked up--was it with Melesio's collusion?).

I have a vague recollection of her being at the hospital during that whole incident where Hum said he couldn't save the arm--then came the confrontation with Rob and the baby in his room and everybody is freaking out. Ni modo. Even if she were telling the truth, Cris says he doesn't believe her. He says some other hurtful things to her about how he feels about his parents.

I grew up listening to the Lone Ranger on the radio. That's exactly how I pictured him when I saw Solitario rearing up with E-man. It looked like a thing of joy, but under usual circumstances it's a sign of fear, aggression or disobedience. (Check out Wikipedia--Rearing (horse). It's actually not a good thing for horse or rider, except under very controlled conditions, such as dressage.)

David--your story is precious. I'm sure you are recording these somewhere for posterity.

Sara! Poor fur baby! Hopefully he will continue to improve!

Thank you so much for the recap, it was as always AWESOME!

Love it David!! Welcome back.

Forgot about the Cris and Mommy scene. That was well played by Pablo--you could just see the hurt in his eyes that he wanted so badly to have her tell the truth or hear something he could believe, and he didn't get it. And she knows it. You've lost the boy woman, tell him the truth and give him that for once.

It's really going to piling on for Cris as these episodes progress, He said he didn't know how to help Allie, and we know he's been spared heartache. It's going to be interesting how they play this, writers and all, as Cris is gobsmacked with everything. For Allie, it will almost be a relief, for Cris, his world will be utterly shattered, E-man is going to have his hands full with those two.

Maybe Cris should move away with Veronica and Don Antonio. I'm looking forward to Cande realizing the child in Val's womb is not her grandchild

Sara, so sorry your cat is ailing. Last year when our cat was ill, I was totally distraught. It was a Sunday (naturally) so we had to go to the Vet urgent care facility. $400. later we had some meds, and she did get better. But wow, sure glad I'm still working and have some kind of a paycheck, however meager.

And frankly, I love short, to-the-point recaps. Love the other kind too, of course. But short works for this busy-off-in-all-directions brain of mine. As I recall, when Melinama started out, she wrote one recap for a week of shows. Anyway, enjoyed your take on things, as always.

Now that Candela is no longer smirking or plotting (as much) I have noticed how lovely she is--and how much the actress resembles Audrey Hepburn. I think her anvil has already hit. She is losing her son's love and respect. And he is the only person, other than Padre Jeronimo, who matters.

I liked the riding scene except that in the beginning the rider was really whipping the horse to get him to go faster. I hate that. Just another reason I don't care to watch horse races.

David, love the grandchildren stories...yes our eyes develop cataracts, our hearing fades, but love last forever. Thank goodness.

Tofie- Now that is a great idea. Cris could do with some time away, and Vero and Antonio would be great companions.

I think time away sounds logical too tofie...you wonder if there might have to be a fast forward before all the pink bows at the finale. But then logic isn't always a given in TN's.

Fort some reason, eating my lunch and thinking about the episode, the scene with ren and Allie came to mind. It still bothers me that the gentleness, the wiping away a tear and understanding with her is not something the writers let Cris do with her. Why do they do that??? It's starting to get unnerving that the one person truly seeing her through all this horror and taking care of everything is not the guy who is her undying love. I better get back to work and stop fuming about this. Too late to change now.

The Renato/Aldonza scene did look very normal for two in a relationship but all Cris and Aldonza swapped was a light kiss on the lips. That is supposed to convince me there is a distinction. Renato get cheek and Cris gets lips but that is why it feels to me these are episodes of "Friends". Ok you got Rachel and Ross but ultimately everybody is gonna date everybody else and they've all see each other naked.

My Beanie Hat Moment last night was Sim's trunk: no odor until they opened it. Really? It's wood, NOT hermetically sealed. Maybe I'm naive but I' m not buying it.

I noticed the two boys were not head to toe wet so did it surface on its own and they waded out and pulled it ashore? Also, why did Emanuel even have to be there? So he can tell Lola or slip up confronting Severiano or somehow become a suspect?

tofie - I think it surfaced on its own. We never really saw that part. Almost like it was chopped up, Univision-style.

"One scene we haven't expanded on is Cris having a heart-to-heart with Mommy. Sadly it went nowhere. She was all giggly lying there just waiting for her heart's desire to come see her and when he did,...."

Perhaps it was my imagination, but it looked like they put a soft-focus lens on Cande in that scene. But I digress .....
Cande has transference issues with Cris. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transference
Cris became her "husband" after her real one let her down(Roberta, maybe others); she transferred her husband-focus and energy onto her son, Cris. It happens in real life and it happened with Cande. Not healthy behavior, either. This explains a LOT of her screechy possessiveness with Cris.

I doubt that Emanuel will become a suspect, but that trunk had to be found by someone who was going to alert the police and not screw things up. He was never in Simoneta's house so he wouldn't recognize it. Lola would have and for her to have found this would have been disastrous because she would have confronted Sev and that couldn't have led to anything good.

Eman has no idea the trunk is linked to Sever or Sim/Viv. What he was confronting Detective Little-Better-Than-Incompetent about was the Adelina case, and urging him to look close at Sever. Other than just mentioning a body in a trunk that floated up, because it's generally a shocking thing to happen, he has no reason to tell Lola or confront Sever about it.

True. And when the DNA report comes back on the foetus, that will be very interesting indeed.

If a DNA test is done on the fetus.

After a month in the water, would a body still be recognizable? I guess Sim/Viv clothes would be, but it will take Lola seeing the remains in the trunk to put two and two together to point the finger at Sev. How will she get the chance....Must see TV tonight.

How many more episodes do we have? Two weeks, I think? The DVR better not act up and the cable signal better not fail. That's all I have to say. LOL

Many thanks to David, JudyB, Anita, tofie and Nina!

So good to see you again, David. Sounds like you had a nice time and what a cute granddaughter story!

I went to school today and tried to stay busy, so er... I doubt I'll be adding any more to the recap. I'm pretty sure we are covering it all though.

I wish I could say kitty is better, but all I can say is he's not worse.

Oh, Sara, "not worse" is a good thing. I am keeping my fingers crossed and sending positive thoughts your way. Les mando (((abrazos))) for you and your kitty.

Oh Sara, sorry. It takes awhile for those little rascals to bounce back sometimes. The fact he ate something helped, and the pills may be making him sleepy and a little listless while they work.

Hope the darling is up and purring up a storm soon.

Did I thank you earlier, Daisynjay? Please accept my apologies if I didn't. I was distracted by your mention of VEGAN carrot cake. I am jealous! I've made it before, but it's labor intensive. I am jealous of anyone with access to vegan carrot cake.

Yes, I'm wondering how they make the "cream cheese" frosting...somehow silken tofu just doesn't ring the same bells for me.
JudyB, who occasionally cheats on her vegan diet

Tofutti brand has a cream cheese substitute, but I also did a quick Google search of vegan carrot cake recipes and a saw one that had cashew cream cheese. I didn't click on it though.

Sounds more and more labor intensive every minute.

Meh. I don't have to have the cream cheese frosting (is that heresy?)

Yes. C'mon...the cream cheese frosting is the best part. Those carrots, nuts, oil, flour, spices and sugar are just there to help it go down. (Lord, did I just say that?)

I was so hoping Aldonza would take the gun Sev pushed on her and jam it into his shoulder socket (glenohumeral ?) and blow it out. Let Sev deal with no arm/usless arm for a while. Being rendered helpless, perhaps he could have a faint understanding of what he has done to those he has intimidated for so long.

Also glad Sim/Viv has been found. Wonder how Lola will take that? Still pulling for a Silvia/Tomas pairing as he could add some romance and excitement to her life and she could certainly help him get himself together.

Where is the patio moving to when LSDP is over? Hope to stay with the peeps for yet another TN

Hey emeraldrose! I hadn't even thought of Aldonza just shooting him in the other shoulder! Very smart. And she gets out of the protagonistas don't kill rule!

Hi Sara:

How is Kitty doing? So hoping for his full recovery. Once had a cat who needed nose drops. That was a real pleasure. Thought of developing a dual prong medicine dropper for that little task.

Nose drops?! Boy am I glad I don't have to do that!

JudyB - it's all about the icing! If carrot cake did not have icing, I'd call it a carrot muffin. ;-)

Oh good grief . . . ice cream was my verification.

Whew...glad we're on the same page, Doris. A page with a lot of grease spots...like the pages in my recipe books.

OT and apropos of nothing ... I miss Madeline ... :-(

We all do. And always will. I still love remembering her "back in a tick" and other Texisms plus her love of all things musical. Mads was so full of life. Still hard to believe that she is gone.

Yes. Madelaine was a special presence at Caray.

Just a quick warning to the recap team: The finale (#137) is a double episode.

That means that unless Univision is planning to show it on a weekend and/or there are several pre-emptions between now and then, you can expect either some crammed episodes or editing.

Madelaine is staying very close in my thoughts as I re-read the recaps for Refugio, El Tal and Avenida Brasil. I still like to use, "---wait for it---" when it was obvious what was coming next.

UA--Perish the thought of crammed episodes. They've tortured us enough. However, cringe, they are already advertising La Italiana as starting on Aug. 25--another odd case of something ending on Monday and the new telenovela starting on Tuesday.

Hey everyone,
Could you do something? Could you visit this Sombra index post:

http://caraycaray.blogspot.com/2015/08/experimental-index-for-sombra.html

and give some feedback?

Thanks in advance.

Monday finales are nothing new; I think La Madrastra ended on a Monday. I've never heard of finales on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, though.
