La Sombra del Pasado #121 (Mx 124) - Wed 8/5 - Everybody cries

Em is having coffee with Vero and Don Ant.  They won't let him take off in the middle of the night alone--they're going with him, just as soon as they're all packed.

Cris asks Don Camilo to call Padre J as Aldonza is still crying and rocking Adelina's body.

Lola visits Padre J to see how Em's doing, but he's left already.  Lola throws a tantrum.  I agree Em is sad and shouldn't be alone, but he'll be with Don Ant and Vero.  Padre J doesn't seem to know that, but he thinks a little solitude would do Em some good.  The phone call from Don Camilo interrupts them.  Cara de impactado de Padre J!  And a "!no puede ser!" into the bargain.  He tells Lola that Adelina is dead.

Cris looks at the pills, at Adelina, at the pills again.  He asks Don Camilo to call the funeral home and inform the cops, because he doesn't want to leave Aldonza alone.

Padre J tells Lola that Adelina killed herself.  She seems in shock.  Lola wants to tell Emmanuel before he leaves.  Padre tells her to go to the hotel.  He needs a minute to himself before he goes to see Aldonza.  Padre J asks/begs/cries/prays "Why, God?!"

Joaquin and Flavia are picking up Ray's toys in the living room.  Flavia tries to put the moves on Joaquin, but he says it's OVER.  He can't and he won't give her another chance after she ran off with another guy.  Mr. 5ft is impressed Joaquin wasn't hit with lip-lock paralysis.

Val visits Sev's room and tells him that she left Humberto "thinking" about her, uh, demand?  Proposal?  Sev says Aldonza and Em are more important to Humberto than she is.  He's taking care of business his own way.  He gets a whiff of her hair and tells her to leave him alone because he's tired.  "You're not going to stop helping me, right?"  Val, shut up and leave.  Uh, says me.  Sev then says the same thing.  Val…you're not leaving.  Leave already.  She finally does…

And surprises Cande in the hallway.  She claims she was making the rounds and telling everyone "good night."  Cande says Dominga was right.  She shouldn't be going in and out of the rooms of the men of this house so casually.  No, Cande, she doesn't know where Cris is.  He never tells anyone where he's going.

At the Lagos house, Irma is staring off into space, not even eating.  Uriel and Mari ask what's going on, but she basically yells at them that NOTHING is going on!  She just doesn't FEEL like TALKING!  She ends up crying and leaving the table with Uriel and Mari hot on her heels.

Lola goes to the inn to tell Em that Aldonza needs her because Adelina just died.

Don Camilo comes to announce to Aldonza, Cris, and Padre J that the cops, the funeral home, and Renato are all there.  Aldonza doesn't want to let Adelina go.  She's saying "She can stay here.  I'll be here for her when she wakes up.  Tell her!  She always pays attention to you!  Tell her I need her!"  Aldonza won't let her go and has to be pried away by Cris and Padre J.  She's an absolute wreck and Cris acts like he doesn't really want to be close to that much grief.  He leaves her screaming and sobbing in Padre J's arms and leaves the room.

Lola swears she's telling the truth and Aldonza needs them.  Don Ant and Vero tell Em to go, and he leaves, taking his suitcase.  Vero shoots Don Ant an annoyed look.

Irma breaks down and tells Uriel and Mari about the loan.  Uriel scolds her for doing that when "they" had agreed not to.  "I know!  I know!"  She calls herself stupid.  Uriel wonders how she even got a loan with nothing as collateral.  She confesses she used the store as collateral and now they're going to lose it.  Uriel just looks angry.

Candela is still stomping around the house because Cris isn't home yet.  No, Candela, you don't get to whine about convalescing when you're not actually convalescing.  She yells at Cris as soon as he walks in and he, in shock says Adelina committed suicide.  He has to go change for the velorio (vigil).  Dominga asks permission to go, too.  Even Cande seems shocked and…sad?

Padre J and Aldonza come home to find Lola and Em waiting for them.  She accepts a hug from Lola and then waits.  She and Em stare at each other and then Em rushes to her and grabs her in a big hug, telling her he loves her, she's not alone, he'll be there and she can always count on him, because she's his sister.  Aldonza says she was Em's aunt, too.  They both lost her.  Padre J gently breaks up the hugging and crying to tell Aldonza she needs to get ready for the velorio.  Padre J thanks Em for being there and then goes to check with Lulu.

(Oh, I see.  So basically, Adelina had to die so Em could put her feelings above his own.  Because he's a nice guy like that.  Gee, thanks, show.)

Dominga and Mel are in shock.  Dominga is worried about Aldonza, as is Mel.  But he knows Joaquin's going to be upset, too.  Dominga leaves the task of calling Joaquin to Mel.  Joaquin says nothing, just freezes as a tear rolls down his cheek.  He starts weeping as he puts the phone down, possibly without even hanging up.  Flavia freaks out and wants to know who called, what happened.

Aldonza is in tears, wondering why her aunt, who was like her mother, would leave her like this.  Lola doesn't understand it either.  She reminds Aldonza that she has Em and she has Lola.  Aldonza can't imagine what pain Adelina had, since she'd told all her secrets.  She can't believe she would have done it out of guilt.  Aldonza starts to blame herself for insisting on coming back to Santa Lucia and living there, living in that house.  Lola tells her to stop torturing herself.  Adelina was a grown woman, making her own decisions.  She pulls Aldonza up off the floor to get dressed.

Someone actually knocks on Cris' door for once.  Oh, it was Dominga.  Go figure.  She and Mel are ready to leave. She didn't ask him what happened.  Cris says when they got there Aldonza ran upstairs, they heard her screaming, and Adelina was already dead.  Dominga thinks it's odd Adelina took her own life.  Cris can't even think about it.  He guesses the authorities will investigate.  Dominga agrees now isn't the time to think about it.  Cris is worried about Aldonza, and Dominga agrees Adelina was more like Aldonza's mother than her aunt.  He just doesn't know what to do to make her feel better, or if she even wants him around.

Uriel says he'll talk to the loan shark and take care of it tomorrow.  Irma doesn't understand why the loan shark didn't come by today like he said he would.  Uriel insists they won't lose the merceria.  They'll fix this together.  "And next time, you listen to me."  OK, I'm going to let his attitude slide, since he doesn't know how much of it was Lardo and Mari's thieving faults and since no, it's not cool to borrow money without your spouse knowing, if they're going to be on the hook for the debt as well.  But his attitude smacks of sexism and it's bugging me.  The little woman screwed up because she didn't listen to the big man and now the big man is going to fix it.  I just hope he changes his tune when he finds out the WHOLE story.  Lola calls Irma to tell her about Adelina.  Irma is shocked to hear that Adelina killed herself.  The cycle starts over as Irma breaks down again and tells Mari and Uriel that Adelina died and they hover around her.

Detective Incompetente is determined...DETERMINED, I tell you…to do a full investigation, including an autopsy.  His underling says it certainly looks like suicide, based on the pills and the letter.  Renato asks them to get the autopsy done before the viewing, hold off on the interviews until tomorrow, and return the letter once they're finished processing it.  The underling asks Renato's opinion on whether it could have been suicide and he honestly doesn't know.  Despite her guilt, she didn't seem to him like the kind of person who would take her own life.

Padre J finds Aldonza in her room and tells her that Adelina's body is in the church.  He asks her what she wants to do with Adelina's body.  Aldonza doesn't want her buried because the crypt is empty and she'll be alone.  She wants her cremated and her ashes scattered with Raymundo's so they can be together.  He knows what Aldonza is going through and he can't change it, but he wants her to know that he loves her.  Aldonza wonders why God keeps taking things out on her, but Padre J says that's not God.  God is love, and he's not responsible for all the bad things that happen.  Aldonza says he certainly had nothing to do with her mother, who was totally capable of taking her own life, but her aunt wasn't.  "What if Severiano arranged things to kill her?  And set it up to look like a suicide?  If you think about it, it fits!  Don Camilo wasn't at home and neither was I--"  Padre J cuts her off and says now is not the time to place blame.  Later they'll find out what happened.  Renato will take care of it.  He heads downstairs, leaving Aldonza a moment alone.

Oh, poor Sev.  He's in so much pain he can't even keep his hand from shaking to drink his fancy booze out of his fancy snifter.  Ain't that a shame.  Instead of a haunting, Candela shows up to interrogate him (the hair is down!  I repeat, the hair is down!) and ask where he was "last night."  She delivers the news of Adelina's suicide and watches his reaction, asking if he hasn't heard.

At the church, Aldonza accepts Cris' condolences.  And then launches right into her theory.  Cris, of course, doesn't think it's possible.  She's making an effort not to seem nuts.  She says she thinks it IS possible, and she's grateful for everything Cris has done, but he and his family…well, she'd rather not say anything she'll regret later.  Cris takes her hands and kisses one, and then the rosary starts and Cris heads out of the church while Aldonza goes up to cry over Adelina.  Joaquin approaches and kisses a white rose before laying it in the coffin.

Sev's pains have finally gone away.  How…nice…for him.  He pulls his gun out of the drawer.

Mel asks Cris, outside the church, what happened.  Cris says Aldonza has a lot of pain, and a lot of it is due to his dad, so he'd like to be outside the radius of that.

Val is awakened by the insistent buzzing of her phone.  Pru just had to call her to brag about how Adelina's suicide is divine punishment for Aldonza.  Pru crows that it must run in the family, and it's too bad Aldonza didn't off herself 'cause they'd all be so happy.  I pause the recording for a second to call Pru some nasty names.  OK, maybe it was more than a second.  Val says that explains why Dominga was crying.  They move right along to the ultrasound issue.  Val says she's got it under control.  She'll get the ultrasound and then only show the written report.  And that written report will say exactly what she wants it to say.

Adelina's mass continues.  They've scattered the extras throughout the church so it doesn't look empty.  After a final blessing, Emmanuel closes the top of the casket and Padre J says they're going to take Adelina now.  Aldonza bids her goodbye and says Adelina will always be in her heart.  That emmeffinsonofa--  Seriously?  In the church?  Can we have the lightning now, please?  I just.  Can't.  Even.  I'm going to need a minute before I can go on.  OK.  Let's see what happens. Ugh!  This guy!  OK.  I'm ready now.  Here we go.  He.  It.  That soulless piece of excrement.  Smarms up the aisle and bids everyone a good evening.  Everybody stands up behind him like they all know something's going to go down.  Padre J asks what he's doing there.  I would have added a "hell" but Padre's a man of God.  He moves toward Sev and Tomas, who has been standing up on the altar by Lulu, starts moving to join Padre J, as does Emmanuel.  Sev smarms that he's there to give his respects to "Miss Lozada."  Padre J tells him to leave.  "Oh, I will, but first I'd like to tell you all that that woman you're venerating like a saint wasn't as good as you think she was.  She was her sister's accomplice in many things."  Aldonza tells him to shut up.  "Oh, are you afraid of everyone finding out how your father died."  Emmanuel explodes with "That's enough!" and frickin' Sev, I kid you not, pulls the damn gun on him.  In the frickin' church!  In front of witnesses!  Who asked yesterday if he's just going to kill 'em all?  Oh, sorry, he just wanted to finish his little speech.  Behind him, I see some random extras moving up the aisle toward Sev and Mel stands just behind him, itching to reach out a hand.  Sev has something to say to Aldonza.  Padre J tells him to put the gun away in God's house.  "The gun is for her, Padre.  So she can get rid of all that rage she's always felt towards me.  Right now you must be blaming me for what happened to your aunt."  Aldonza moves closer and Em grabs her, but she's moving slowly, so she's not going to do anything, right?  She even gets past Padre J, who never takes his eyes off Sev.  She waits until she's right in front of Sev to grab the gun and say of course she's blaming him.  He makes her sick.  "What are you waiting for?  Go on, here, in front of God, get justice for everything you say I've done."  Aldonza says she will, she's going to end this nightmare once and for all and kill him like a dog.  Sev gives his trademark disgusting tongue flick and the episode ends there.

I can't believe they put that last scene in yesterday's avances. QTH?

And QTH with Sev? What was that supposed to have accomplished? He's making himself look nuts to the entire town now. Give it up, dude.

Thank you Diva! I only saw bits and pieces so you helped fill in details... Like the fact that is didn't see the bit and piece where Cande's hair was down. Drat.

Thank you very much for the recap Eli! It was fun to read and remember!

I think Sev is past caring, I wonder if he wants Aldonza to shoot him or if he thinks she won't. Either way he ends up looking like a lunatic in front of thr entire town.

5ft I wonder if Univision makes its own advances or uses Televisa's because by this time in the novela they started putting moments from the last scene of next episode in every advance they'd show.

Jarocha

DIVA, thank you! Another primo recap, it felt like I was right there with you! Phone call claimed my attention near the end so I missed seeing Cande's hair "down". You mean, pony tail down, or "down" down? Darn, I wish I'd seen that.

Let me just note a couple of things that made an impression---
(1) Flavia makes the moves on our man Joaquim. Yucko. I wanted to twist her head off like it was Play-doh.
(2) Oso (aka, Uriel), world's sweetest hubby.
(3) No amount of comedy will make me ever like Pru again.
(4) Where is Sim/Viv's coffin bobbing around these days?
(5) When will the candy house resurface?

Random thoughts, Thanks again Diva for the great recap, I super enjoyed it.

J in Oregon

Sorry 5ft, I somehow read Eli's name and thought it was her, thank you very much for another wonderful recap!

Jarocha

I just wanted to comment on Cristóbal. He has his own problems with his evil parents but up until he fell for Aldonza he was happy with them, he grew up with love and care and material things. He hasn't ever needed to work to earn his keep, to study or to enjoy certain luxuries. He had all that, work is just something he enjoys and he has never worked outside his hacienda.

He has lived a sheltered life so when things come between him and Aldonza he tends to have this idealistic approach, like he knows that if they fight together then everything is going to be okay, just because they love each other and that's that. Because he's never needed anything else, all he has needed is her love. This is the first time that he has witnessed a tragedy in Aldonza's life that doesn't involve him, that can't be fixed in his mind if they stick together and love each other, and he has no idea what to do.

I also think this explains a little how insensitive he can be to Emmanuel's feelings about growing up without material things. Cristóbal knows they don't make him happy but he is not aware of how much more comfortable and easiy they have made his life. He thinks he knows but he really has no idea here either.

Jarocha

Good stuff, Kat.

Sev isn't done for yet because there are still other secrets and too many episodes left. I wonder whether the gun was even loaded. I'm guessing he intended for her to try to shoot it so he could bring a charge of attempted murder and make her look like a lunatic in front of the entire town. Or get her arrested.

Just as Prudencia tried to make her look like a slut. All she succeeded in doing was revealing that she herself was a vindictive bitch with a substance abuse problem.

As to the avances they vary from one country to another. I remember seeing some ages ago and in another series that seemed to reveal all the important stuff from the next episode so I decided not to say anything about them in recaps because I knew they were different from the ones shown here and I didn't want to confuse people.

Sitting right there with you and Mr. 5 ft. What a hoot to be around and thank you for another great retelling.

"(the hair is down! I repeat, the hair is down!)"

Jarocha, you pointed out things about Cris that helped me put my finger on his behavior. He's always had an arrogance that surfaces occasionally that conveys he is better than everyone else, then he catches himself and tries to be a normal kid in the neighborhood so everybody will play with him. He's the misfit.

Why can't one person take a 2 x 4 to Severiano's head when he brandishes a gun and turns his back on a crowd? He's not a big guy, got but one arm and don't see eyes in the back of his head.

Haven't been impressed with Michelle's work but she did a great job last night.

Oh Flavia, not quite hot enough to pull that one off. Protip: a Brazilian and a dropped towel

Kat- Another fantastic recap from you. Thanks so much for the double duty.

Jarocha- Great analysis of Cris. He seemed at such a loss to know how to comfort someone who has just gone through such a great loss. He has never experienced anything like that personally. No wonder Aldonza didn't even need him at the wake.

Sever definitely has become unhinged. I hope everyone in that church reports what he did to the police. Time for Al to stop looking like the only crazy one. I wish Cris had been there to witness it. This is the second time one of his parents has intruded on the wake of one of Aldonza's family with craziness (Cande and Rob's ashes).

Pru and Vile were particularly vile this episode. I can't believe their glee over the death of Adelina. Even Cande had the decency to be shocked and saddened by it-- she has said before that she has nothing against Adelina. The anvil for these beyotches had better be good.

I think Cande is starting to get suspicious of Vile. Between the late night visits to Cris and Sever's rooms, and the reluctance to get the ultrasound to figure out when the baby is due, she looks super shady.

Vile and Pru were particularly disgusting in this episode. They have no limits. The paternity of the baby needs to be revealed shortly and I don't especially care how. That will set her back big time, including with Humberto.

Loved your recap Diva! The details, the rants, it was all fantastic.

Jarocha, I'll add that your comments are Cris are interesting, but I still wanted something more to be there between our two main squeezes. This was a moment by the writers to try and bring these two together, have Cris share in some of the pain Allie has experienced especially losing her mother figure(he can't identify in his mind how HE would feel and take it from there?), and we got nothing. For some reason, I felt very let down that with so few weeks to go, I'm still struggling to buy into these two as a massive, all encompassing love for the ages (TN required plot point.)

And Allie is still in a place of not turning to him and more and more seems to identify him with his father. What is ever going to happen that can change that for her...and please, just putting the anvil to Sev shouldn't be the magic key.

I love that even Padre is "Ren will take care of it". Our trusty dude once again takes care of all, and lord love him, thanks Diva for pointing out, he tells the cops what to do. I missed that scene with a quick call.

Joaquin was heart breaking, but I have to wonder if we still will get him resigned to a life with Flavia since he lost his true love. If that happens, for that writers, my sincerest raspberry for giving a great guy who did nothing to anyone a crap rest of his life. At least he'll have little dude.

The way I looked at Sev as he made love to his gun in the study, was that after that bout of phantom pain which seems to be worsening with every death, and the drinking, he was ready to just end it all himself. He does see himself in a bottomless pit, I think he knows he's toast in that town, toast in the eyes of the one son he cares about and Cande is really no longer an ally. He's lost ES, and all he has is Val (horror). But he's too much a coward to do it himself...there was something in his eyes that I think was not so much a dare to Allie to make her look bad, but to almost want her to do it in front of God for all his sins. Alexei played the hell out of that whole set of scenes.

But I did scream at my screen why everyone stood there like mannequins. Seriously people, Mel could have knocked him out from the back, etc. Park the beanie moment.

I don't think the sole intent of Ade's death is to get E-man to stay and be there for his siblings. (And I think Vero's look was more like resignation knowing this may mean she's lost her man.) But it sure was nice to see these two find each other at this moment. That worked for me.

I will be interested to see who is the voice of reason or how this standoff in the church stops because too early for Sev to meet his maker.

Daisynjay

DnJ, I don't think Severiano feels the least bit of guilt or remorse but do think he sees the futility and willing to go out in a blaze before it unravels. If he can take a few more with him all the better.

I don't think Sev would want to meet his maker without taking a few more victims with him, especially in a church in front of most of the town. And I'm sure that gun isn't loaded.

All I can say is that if he hits his Karmageddon without the revelation about Aldonza I will be very angry with the writers.

Message to Count Alacran: Please e-mail me the rap sheet and Karmageddon details about Fausto of QTPD. I have a weekend discussion in mind.

Thank you, Dear Diva for the second emotionally heavy episode in a row. Lordy, Michelle DID bring the shock and temporary insanity of the suddenly bereaved, didn't she! ITA Jarocha that analysis of Cris hit the mark, it was like he DID see a depth to the tragedy that is Aldonza's life like he has never seen it before. Him seeing Sev in the church would have completed the dark picture but dang it! He wasn't there! Also ITA with Tofie about why can't some of the men in this piece take Sev down at moments like this! They act as if he's as big as Oso (Uriel)! Criminy!

Thank goodness they're going to do an autopsy and Det. Incompetente is heading the charge and going to see that things are done right! What will he make of this flagrant, crazy, velorio crashing Sev has just done? Like I said yesterday, if Sev put whatever is in those pills mixed with some undetectable sodium chloride, unless they find the needle puncture it will be written off as suicide. I know I'm over thinking it but I hope there's some irritation at the site of the needle injection.

I hear ya Diva about Adelina having to die to make Em stay with Aldonza. Couldn't they have accomplished that with a coma which Adelina wakes up out of and then fingers Sev. . . .along with the moribund Adriano who is as forgotten as Lola's poo-covered engagement ring. Well, what's done is done. I have no idea how they're going to wrap up this wacko wake scene. Sheesh!

What rotten to the core harpies from hell are Pru and Vile. I don't even want to pollute my mind trying to think of what I want to happen to those hos.

Back later to read more of y'alls wonderful and eloquent analyses. Have a good day y'all and thanks again, Diva!

Kat - Thank you for the recap and pulling double-header duty this week.

Oh noes! How did I not see Cande's hair down??? And I already erased this one, so cannot go back to look! Drat!

Cris is The Most Useless Human Galan On Earth. Seriously, the guy has a pound puppyface and has less brains than plant life. Just standing around while everyone else on the planet is comforting Aldonza?!? Those two have zero chemistry and I'm not buying it.

Michelle really did bring it, last night. I figured that must have been the audition scene and how she got the job. Well done.

Scene with Em & Aldonza had me getting a bit misty-eyed. Well done, actors!

Sev has lost it. Completely, totally lost it. Like a rabid dog.

Oh, and what was the timeline for finding Adelina, the autopsy, and the vigil??? The way the show played out, it seemed to all happen in one day. Around here, an autopsy takes time. Que???

Having a "viewing" before cremation is a new one for me.
And just the face? New to me, too.

Doris- The autopsy is going to take place after the viewing, and before cremation. Renato asked the police if they could do that.

Thanks Vivi. I had a hard time understanding a lot of what was said last night. Carrot cake & ice cream sugar high is my only defense. LOL

Mmmmm. Carrot cake.

That seems highly irregular to me. Here in the US you have to have an embalming first if there is to be a viewing; it's a public health regulation.

Cristobal will soon experience the loss of both parents when their evil is exposed to the entire town. I don't think he really understands the extent of human evil, so he is not prepared for this. We are still waiting for:

-- Simoneta's corpse to surface
-- Revelation about the arson in DF
-- Proof that Severiano murdered Adelina
-- Revelation about the rapes of Don Antonio's sister and of Aldonza

This last one will push Cris over the edge.

It was warmed up carrot cake. Awesome. :-)

Sounds yummy!

I have to give credit to Lisette. I wouldn't want to be in a coffin/funeral gear even for minute.

She did really well playing dead as Al rocked, embraced, and clutched her too. I was impressed.

Doris, stop it! Do you want to be responsible for starting me on a spicy delicious carrot cake topped by creamy sweet cream cheese icing binge! Do ya?

;D Lila

Yes, Vivi, I noticed that, too, and kept thinking how difficult that would be.

I still wanted something more to be there between our two main squeezes.

YES, Daisy! How they have loved starved us in this novella and given us mainly horror and perversion (Sev's getting a rise out of Adelina's death throes was unforgivably horrific and disgusting).

Lila

Lila - I might open up a Carrot Cake table on The Patio. ;-) :-)

I make carrot cake from scratch and that and my pecan pie the only reason Mr. tofie's mom was ok with our marriage

Aldonza and Cris had a few young lust kisses and that's it. Nothing, and agree Renato is her bf. Hopefully, as illustrated with an unrealized Joaquin/Adelina pairing we will get to see Renato/Aldonza, Silvia/(hold my nose) Tomas, Emmanuel/Veronica and Pato move in ala Threes Company with Lola and Mari. Cris needs to leave town, immerse himself in his career and leave the posturing macho rich hacienda patron to someone more suited. He doesn't do give a shit very well.

That's a great idea, Doris! Cougars should eat carrot cake! We'll combine the tables and Tofie can supply us!

I also agree with this from Doris which goes perfectly with Daisy's comment:

Cris is The Most Useless Human Galan On Earth. Seriously, the guy has a pound puppyface and has less brains than plant life. Just standing around while everyone else on the planet is comforting Aldonza?!? Those two have zero chemistry and I'm not buying it.

Lila

Well, I still prefer Cris to rapey, abusive galans-- and we have a LOT of those. And no amount of hot chemistry and longing looks ever make up for that behavior, in my eyes. Sorry, I know many loved Alejandro in Robo, but once you cross that line you can never be a galan to me, no matter how sexy/determined/strong you are.

Vivi, I believe we agree about the bevy of rapey, grabby, physically intimating, abusive, slut shaming galans and makes me want to vomit. I'm barely hanging on with Lo Imperdonable

kat, thanks so much for this excellent retelling of a very disturbing episode. I only saw thevkast five minutes because of another family swimming party\picnic .

wow..Sev is nuts. I have no idea how this show will end .

Does Can't literally letting her hair down indicate a change of character? Pru seems to be continuing her slide down that slippery slope...drunk 24\7, in bed, no makeup, dissing the recently departed. And Vile is also often shown in bed. Are these two hibernating?

I agree that killing off ADe seems to have been the writers way to bring Em and Al together. Bad.

Two main definitions that pop up immediately in Google search for gallantry, which is related to galan:

1) courageous behavior, especially in battle
2) polite attention or respect given by men to women

I need both in my galan, at the very least, with respect for women being #1, courageous behavior a close #2, and being seductive/sexy/smoking hot a bonus #3.

I don't think Adelina dying was only to bring Eman and Al together, but was one of many reasons.

Thankfully, I haven't seen any of those distasteful galans y'all describe. I loved William Levy in La Tempestad or Ric in Pasión, even Fernando in La Fea. Anywhoo, hopefully Cris will heat up and show some passion of his own when he confronts Sev about the rape (if Renato doesn't kill Sev first).

Lila

I like your list, Vivi. I hope these folk can get away from these stories where the psycho villains are really the stars, not the galan! Fear, anxiety, hate, vengeance and grief have Love beat hands down in this story!

Lila (Okay, back away from the fussing!)

oh there's one over on Lo Imperdonable, Martin, though he hasn't raped her he does uses his size to restrain, even pinning her to the ground as she attempted to flee his abuse. Guilty of all of the other and maniacally jealous. So romantic.

At least in this one neither Cris or Renato, despite all the slut tag thrown about town, have not gone there

Lovely point Vivi--the total essence of the Gallant Knight in Shining Armor, which is where the whole point of being a "galan" comes from. Bravery in battle and total respect and admiration for the ladies ( coming to their rescue, that whole thing). It differentiated the good guys from the bad guys essentially to have a true Knight be someone who believed in true love and was protective of women and children.(Let's just leave out the later crusaders.)

Somehow, the bully, he-man mentality seeped into this idea of a Galan to the point where women are supposed to think the Macho thing is admirable and to be liked. Pretty much putting up with some pretty awful behavior because, well, they lurrrrvvvv them. Watching an historical TN, I put up with it somewhat, but when these are supposed to be modern day guys...give me a friggin break. Writers should be ashamed unless the macho thing is still pretty prevalent in the culture in Mexico??

I never minded Cris being a gentler, less threatening type of galan, but now he seems to be coming off like a befuddled spoiled kid which Jarocha beautifully pointed out. I would have loved to have him wrap his arms around Allie in that home, to cry with her even if didn't know exactly what she was going through, to at least stick around and make sure things are running right in the home...ANYTHING! (but then that's Ren's job I guess). When he walked out of the church, I was so disappointed. Would have loved to see him sit back down after he kissed her hand and tell her "I am here for you and only you always. Parents be damned."

Ah well...we get what we get.

Daisynjay

Daisynjay- Amen. That's exactly how Cris should have behaved and he missed a great opportunity to step up his galan status.

And I don't know whether to say this here or on Amores con trampa, but that's exactly what happened over there last night. The girl was crying and upset and the galan just hugged her.

Aldonza hasn't gotten that kind of support from Cris and it's frustrating.

that's what you get when folk are secretly penning a snuff flick and disguising it as a romance. . .(is that too harsh?)

Lila

Glad I got my hot bad boy if I love them enough the good will come out, outta my system early. Stereotypical, 16 popular cheerleader with bad boy bf that pulled his car over as he drove me home from school, physically shoved me out the door and told me to walk home cause I had flirted with a guy at school. Next day the fool wanted to be all sweet and act like it was my fault he put me out and didn't even ask how I made it home. A big ole NOPE but boy did the slut shaming begin. I got a low threshold

Morning, all! Reading my way through your excellent comments :D I apologize in advance if I miss anybody.

Thank you, Sara! Cris was really doing a much better job of comforting Aldonza and being with her when it came to Emmanuel. Now he's just ineffectual again.

Thank you, J! Cande's hair was in a ponytail and all waved up at the back of her neck from being in braids all day. You know me, gotta make sure we get all the important details :p

Thank you, Jarocha! You're right on in your analysis of Cristobal, I think. He's lived a life of privilege and doesn't know how to deal with hardships, and at least he's trying, but it is awkward as hell to watch!

Thank you, Urban Anthropologist! I think you're right and Sev did want to make Aldonza look bad, but he's slipping so much...it's not like walking in and handing her the gun in front of everyone after basically insulting her dead aunt makes him look like the sanest of men.

Thank you, tofie! I couldn't tell if the "crowd" was all getting closer to make sure they could see and hear everything clearly, make a run for it if things got ugly, take down Sev...it was very vague. Like they knew there was trouble, but they didn't want to actually DO anything about it, just get a front-row seat.

Thank you, Vivi! I love that Cande told Val "Dominga was right," about her being in people's rooms. I'm surprised Val kept it together and didn't flip out over that. How much longer before Cande insists on going to a prenatal appointment with Val. She can't keep this farce up for much longer.

Thanks for clearing up the confusion about the order of viewing, autopsy, cremation. Though I still feel like the overall timeline was unclear--was this all taking place in the middle of the night? Early the next morning? The following evening?

Thank you, Daisynjay! Oh, that's a good, awful, point about Joaquin. He doesn't deserve having the love of his life die and having to make do with Flavia!

Thank you, Lila! I don't know how much faith I have in Incompetente, but at least he seems to be taking it personally...now...all of a sudden...after so many years...to get to the bottom of what the heck is really going on in his nice, decent little town. I almost think it was Sev's bribery attempet that lit the fire under him.

Thank you, doris! It was quick, with the hair, and she was in Sev's dark office, so I didn't notice it so much from the front as the loose bundle of hair at the back of her neck. Yeah, not feeling the chemistry with Cris and Aldonza.

Thank you, Susanlynn! I guess they intended to show us that Cande lets her hair down when she sleeps, which is somewhat reassuring, but at the same time...the thought of re-braiding that hair every morning!

Vivi, Looking at that definition for gallantry and your personal requirements, I'd like to point out that 1+2=3. And I'd like the galans to be polite and respectful to both men and women. I've loved it every time that Renato helped Cris, even though Cris is his "rival."

I don't know how anyone watching Sev's antics could still believe that he's a fine upstanding citizen. I'm disappointed Cris left before Sev made his scene, too. Though every time he finds out something new he says all over again that he doesn't trust them, and yet he was doubting Aldonza's (admittedly crazy-sounding) theory. So maybe it would have been "After what I saw, I don't trust you," all over again until the next time he's asked to believe that Sev might be behind something and then he'd just say, "Nah."

Dang, tofie. There's bad boys, and then there's just assholes.

Oh he was an entitled asshole, extremely popular and the girls swooned and I though I had bagged a prize when he asked me out. (hair flip) Sick thing is he had his way despite a string of girls he went through. Wished I could say he got his but don't know, probably not, he walked on water.

So, not really a Tomas, that one.

No, Tomas is benign in comparison

I would have said more of a Lardo, but I never really understood his appeal. To other humans. But Val being a lagartija....

OK, that's not very kind to lizards, is it? Sorry dudes. You're WAY cooler than Val.

Lardo wasn't really popular. Think home coming king popular but a dickhead

This comment has been removed by the author.

Somehow we didn't manage to get one of those on this show. All the hot popular guys were "good."

Maybe that was Sev when he was younger.

Ugh...I think I just creeped myself out with that thought.

Viva..Ditto..I totally agree with you on what I need in a galan.

OMG it creeped me out too

You know, I have been watching TN's since diving into Pasion, and I can honestly say this is the first TN where none of the predicable pairings I think we will have at the end are seem to make sense to me with the way the characters and stories have flowed. Sort of sad, but I'm more in this for the long haul to see how the baddies get theirs. I have a feeling I'll be drinking or throwing things as couples pair off. And I just don't have the buy in on the leads--nice kids, but it's just been written wrong.

Daisynjay

yeah, poor kids, ain't got enough ass to hold up them pants

Lila...ahhhh..Pasion...Ric..or as I usually referred to him..RicRicRic...anyone remember the Amy Poeller character from Saturday Night Live ? We have certainly been in a galan\romance drought lately. Jamie from Outlander is filling the void for me....aye , ye ken? what a manly man there.

Daisynjay, I vote drinking, but that's just me. Don't want to scare the cats or break the TV. I think I said before, I was really opposed to Tomas & Silvia, and it may or may not happen, but they really sold that one in a way they haven't managed to sell Cris & Aldonza.

Actually, now that I think of it, if Silvia and Tomas don't end up together, they're going to have to do more work to make that believable after everything they've already shown. Which will be sort of funny/sad.

Yeah, best not to throw things as the furballs have only recently stayed in the room even as the theme music plays.Drinking sounds like a good option. I'll fall asleep better too! We'll call it a medicinal need.

Wouldn't you love to put the writers in a room and have them explain how the blazes they put out the plot lines the way they did, made characters act certain ways, and then more then likely did the force feed "but they belonged together all along" idea in the last week or so. When Flavia pulled that " mi amor" as she came to check on Joaquin crying I wanted to hurl the remote. And yeah, never thought I would like Silvia and Tomas, but dang, they actually have chemistry! And he's a good guy who had a bad influence in life...who knows with her help what he could make of himself. OK - making myself mad again.

I actually have always pictured Sev as the odd guy out while Ray and PJ were the cool dudes in school. He might have been what we use to call in high school back in the day as in "the smoker's crowd" -- sort of a Lardo, but not the cool dudes in school, the Outsiders. He just hit the mother lode with Cande because the cool dudes were taken and frankly, she pulled a knee-jerk grab when PJ left. Sev always seemed like a walking example of Inferiority Complex manifested 10X over.

Daisynjay

I'm not so sure about that.

I imagine that when Sev was young he somehow learned to ride, got good at it, and made the competition circuit. That's how he came to Candela's attention. Since she was beautiful and the heiress to the lands adjacent to El Santuario he set out to get her. Since he also has a good eye for horses he was acceptable to her and possibly her parents (if they were alive by then; we don't know). However, she seems like she was sheltered enough to not be that savvy about human nature so she didn't see him for who he really is: a sociopath and a narcissist.

His whole act in the church could be evidence that he is becoming unhinged or that he believes everyone is so afraid of him that none of the rules apply to him. Either explanation will suffice.

Per an earlier comment: Vile can't keep up her act much longer. Candela will be out of the neck brace soon and she will be all over this. We also can't discount the possibility that Candela -- or Cristobal -- will overhear an argument between Vile and Pru when Pru is in her cups.

Could he have resembled his youngest son on the circuit but with a black heart?

Daisynjay, I sure would like to ask what the hell they were thinking with a lot of this!

Urban, I don't even know if Pru's sober when she sleeps anymore, so, there's a good chance of her spilling the frijoles without meaning to.

tofie, I always thought I saw some pride in his eyes when Mel would tell him how awesome Em was with the horses. But then later he kept saying he hated him and wished he was dead. Could be because he feels he's being replaced by a newer model...or they changed their minds about Sev's feelings towards Em.

I could buy Severiano having pride in a son with exceptional talent and take credit for it yet want to destroy him for it and what his mere existence represents. He's always wished Cris had the same predilection.

I agree. Even though I was surprised when he talked about his hate for Em, it still "fit" with his character. It was unexpected, but not unrealistic.

(Oh, I see. So basically, Adelina had to die so Em could put her feelings above his own. Because he's a nice guy like that. Gee, thanks, show.)

Have to agree with you, Diva, that's a hell of a way to arrange for a character's change of heart. Surely we could have done that in a less macabre way. But it seems to be Telenovela Law that at least one "good" character has to die towards the end. What a plot device!

Faded out on this before the scene in the church but will go back and watch now. Sev seems to really be off his rocker. Perhaps the best Karmageddon for him would be to live a long long time with unrelenting...rather than episodic...phantom pain.

We shall see what the writers have in store. In the meantime, thanks for doing double duty and blasting out two fine recaps in a row.

Thanks JudyB! Really, he could have gone away and come back later, or stayed because he just couldn't leave his BFF Solitario. That part of his leaving never did feel right to me. So I guess now it doesn't matter. Yay? And what about Vero? She's been very patient and understanding, but I think she might be hitting her limit.

I only hope that the revelation about the rape doesn't happen the way I fear it will.

Since Roberta's death Adelina was the only other person who knew. Once Lola and Don Antoinio knew Adelina could die. Lola hasn't talked yet despite her normally loose lips, but what if she lets it slip to either Emanuel or Cristobal?

Cristobal will not want to believe it but will have to come to the conclusion that it is true because of Aldonza's difficulty with getting intimate with him. Emanuel would completely believe it because of how he was treated by Sev. If both found out at the same time I could see them freak out, then team up to drag Sev to the police. He would laugh at them and the lack of proof. Since that happened about 5 years ago how could it be proven now?

No DNA, no witnesses, just Aldonza's word against Sev's...I guess Sev will have to really lose it and make a public confession.

Have I mentioned today how much I loathe this guy? I don't know if there's a villain I've hated more.

I just wondered whether he would save it for a last round of confessional abuse on Padre Jeronimo's last day in SL. It would be like him to do that.

I actually thought that what you were getting at is that now Lola's the only one who knows, besides Aldonza, and so he'd kill off Lola for that. And I was prepared to say "No way!" but no. He'd do it. Between that and seeing the coffin-table in the back of his truck, he'd at least try. And the writers might even let him. I have no faith that they'd dismiss the idea, since they killed off Adelina and I wouldn't have predicted that.

Diva--Thank you for two most excellent recaps in a row.

I have nothing new or insightful to add to the comments--except that I suddenly want some carrot cake, RIGHT NOW--the three-layer variety with cream cheese icing between the layers as well, not one of the sheet cakes with only one layer of cream cheese icing on top.

Don Ant and Vero. I have a feeling they are on their way back to wherever it was, (San Miguel? QA?) and we won't see them again. Were they at the velorio?

When Renato asked Det. Incompetente if they could do the autopsy after the velorio and he said yes, I sighed with relief. For my own peace of mind, I'm glad I heard that. I was getting ready to throw my beanie at the screen.

It seemed to me that Addie's death and Aldie changing for the velorio all took place in the same time frame--in other words, just an hour or two after the body was removed. When we see Mel & Cris outside the church it is dark, I'm going to assume it's the same evening. They do things faster in SL than a traditional Jewish ceremony--which has to take place within 24 hours with no embalming. I found it interesting to learn that you can't have an open casket wake if the body has not been embalmed. Makes sense, especially in a hot climate.

After Sev "arranged" the pill bottle and we saw some spilled pills, he went over to the table and saw the letter. He mumbled to himself that it was icing on the carrot cake.

Kudos to Michelle, indeed. She does angry well and now we know she does sincere torment and lamentation par excellence. I tried to WILL Cris over to her side to take her in his arms and hold her. With Jarocha's, Vivi's and everyone's analysis of Cris--why he didn't makes so much more sense now.

Cris did look a little confused and didn't know what to do with himself in the midst of an intimate family tragedy. I'm still glad he was there and not Renato--or he didn't walk in and Renato was already there comforting Aldie. Cris' other problem is that he doesn't really know Al very well. He can talk to Dominga, Mel or even Lola about his innermost feelings, but not the woman with whom he wants to spend the rest of his life with. COMMUNICATION with your beloved, man, that's one of the keys to a long and happy life.

I thought it was a little ridiculous of Sev to hand Al the gun and no one tried to interfere. Guess they wanted to save a little of the suspense for tonight. All the earlier discussions into his reasons for even showing up at the church armed make sense to me. As the scene evolved, I wondered if he had been too much of a coward to take himself out while he was in his study and decided to have someone else do it AND pay for the crime. He becomes a suicide by someone else's hand.

Aldonza cannot kill Sev. It's in the telenovela rules, somewhere (with very few exceptions) that the protagonista(s) can not kill anyone.

Thank you, Anita! Oh, no...you may be right about Don Ant and Vero. They weren't at the velorio backing up Em. At least, not that I saw, and if anybody was going to challenge Sev instead of just standing there, I think it would have been Don Ant!

When you pointed out that Cris didn't stick around and Renato wasn't comforting Aldonza, I realized both of them got...well, shoved a side is a little harsh, but, yes, shoved aside...in favor of Em. It was odd not to see Renato by Aldonza's side all night. He was back by Humberto. It was Em who was the one sitting/standing closest to Aldonza, except for the few moments he left her talking to Cris.

Kat- Maybe what Aldonza needed/wanted all along was a strong brother. Not a husband/boyfriend/suitor. She's got Eman now, so Cris and Renato can step aside.

I always wanted an older brother...

Ohhhhh, Vivi, I like that idea! She's had quite a few major life changes. Why not take the time to adjust to the new reality instead of jumping right into a boda?!

doris, nah, she's not gonna do it...but could she just, like, clip him a little?

Oh...that would be bad, wouldn't it?

Vivi--Eman is a few months younger than, but ni modo, a brother when you are an adult is a brother whether older or younger. But don't ask me, I didn't have either, nor a sister.

I'd be okay with her clipping Sev, especially in a particular Lorena Bobbitt style body part.

Vivi--Got your meaning. I always wanted an older brother, too, but realized at a very young age that it was impossible to work things like that backwards. Ha!

Anita- Yep, when you're a kid you just wish for the older brother. At this age, I would settle for who's one younger. :)

I got an older brother and adore him, even when we were young he was so cool. Know this is weird but I saw him get in a fight with a neighborhood bully much bigger and he made the guy cry and when the guy started off on his bike my brother stuck a stick in his spokes and he went over the bars. He didn't call my brother a ching chong anymore. I was so proud.

LaDiva, OMG, Girl you hit. You hit it good.
Sev tells val to leave cause hes tired? Yeah
Murder takes a lot out of you. All the other stuff was good but that church scene, I mean
Really? he comes in the church to act like a fool. Everything she told cris, will come back
And knock the wind out of him. Cris needs to open his eyes. And that autopsy, they wont
Find any if those pills in her system, hope they find the needle mark. He could have just shot air through the syringe, that would kill someone. Can't wait for 7:00 est.
Don't blame you about wanting lightening to strike that peice of slim sh***, and it don't even deserve that title.
Aldonza is not going to kill him, someone or some-thing else will.

That moment right there when cris helped her let go of adilena's body I was hopeing she would have went into cris' arms but the writers had other plans. And why? That would have been a good time to bring them together. Cris need to grow another spine and confront that creature that calls itself a father.

Will Humberto be the one to do the autopsy? Must see TV!

Cris had all that time with her in the room until her uncle got there, and he didn't do anything. I mean she screamed for HIM when she found her aunt's body. That was the time for him to step up and he didn't. He just stood there staring at her in shocked silence. Even Don Camilo had already picked up the phone and called the authorities way before Cris asked him to do so. By the time she was really breaking down, I think Al knew at a gut level that Jero, not Cris, was the shoulder she needed to cry on.

Thank you, Nina! Well, I'm glad Sev was tired and threw Val out, even if I'm not happy about why he was tired.

I'm back. Well, luckily I do not like carrot cake,so there is no temptation there, but I picked up a homemade apple pie ( that tastes exactly like the delicious ones that my mother made ) at a local dairy farm\cafe\grocery owned by a former student of mine. Also bought a homemade molasses cake ( that tastes just like my daughters learned to make in 4H )for my friend who just moved into a new apartment and a chocolate cake (that tastes just like the ones my mother-in-law made ) for my daughter's family. I never learned how to bake because I did not want to be tempted by those calories.

So...Did Sev kill ADe to keep her from going to the police about Ray's death ? Was there any proof after all those years.

Grieving is terrible, and watching someone you love grieve is terrible, scary, frustrating, but people have to put on their grownup panties and endure these sad experiences. I cannot believe that Cris and Ren were not shoving to be at Al's side. Cris just seems to always look a little bewildered to me. The dazed and confused look That he usually has on his face would not be comforting to me . When you are grieving, you need someone to tell you that everything will be all right and to look as if he\she actually means it.

Does anyone else feel as though Ren is no longer crazy in love with Al? He looks as if he is finally getting tired of fighting for his onetruelove.

Ren seems to finally be accepting bis role as friend/lawyer/biz partner. And his thoughts these days are occupied by Silvia and her relationship with Tomas.

Susanlynn--
You asked, "...Did Sev kill ADe to keep her from going to the police about Ray's death ?"

We may get an answer in about 15 min. Meanwhile, it seemed to me more like his "Mis Planes" is to hurt Aldonza as much as he can--torture her, leave her alone and vulnerable. No mother, no aunt, no PJ. The one thing he didn't count on is the array of men who are willing to step up to be by her side--Eman, Renato, Cris, Jacinto, Camilo, Mel, and Hum (in descending order of importance to her, says I).

I think Sev knows the statute of limitations would keep him safe from any legal prosecution in Ray's death. He didn't kill him with his one shot, but he did suggest and participate in burning Ray's body and there are no credible witnesses to that act--only hearsay.

I don't know about Mexico but in the US there is no statute of limitations on murder. But even without any charges connected to Raimundo's death there are enough crimes to put him away forever.
