La Sombra del Pasado #131 (Mx 134) - Wed 8/19 - Take this villain…no, please, take him!

Here we go, my final Sombra recap!  Thank you to the entire recapping team for making this a fun experience, even when the show started to drag, and to the peeps on the patio for hanging in there with us and sharing your witty observations every day.  Y'all make the work worth it!  Now on with the show….

We get a recap of Sev committing almohadacide (thank you doris for that one!).  The machines beep and Sev shouts for the doctor, who declares Humberto dead.  No prob, Sev will tell the family.  Pru gets the call from him just as Valeria is being perp walked through the streets of Santa Lucia.  I'll spare you Sev's fake platitudes.  Pru is so distraught she actually asks him for help with Val.

The next morning, Em and Lola are just sitting down to breakfast when Uriel and Mari arrive.  Lola makes a big show of wrapping Em's arms around her in front of them both as Uriel begins his apology.

Pru visits Val in jail and brings her some breakfast, but Val's not interested in food.  She throws Pru out once she gets the news of her father's death and starts sobbing that she killed him.

Out in the waiting area, Sev hisses to Nava that they have to help Val because she's the heir to El Santuario and he needs to get on her good side.  The patio smirks knowingly.  As Nava starts to complain about how "complicated" the situation is, a tearful Pru emerges and takes comfort in the fact that Sev is going to handle everything.

Mari apologizes to Em, Lola, and Uriel for being a big lying liar.  Lola wants to go off on Mari, but Em stops her.  Mari wants to make sure they know that Uriel had nothing to do with it.  He apologizes as well and he and Em shake on it.  Em admits he did get to the point where he hated Mari, and he didn't want to forgive her, but since she finally told the truth and that got Lola back to him, he doesn't want to hold on to resentment anymore.  He forgives her.  Lola is not so inclined and won't let them hug, either.

Joaquin is all packed and tells Little Ray that he's going on a trip.  He'll be back in a few days, but he's going to be traveling a lot more now, for work.  Flavia's upset, if anyone cares.

Em, Lola, and Aldonza arrive at the hospital.  They're astounded that Sev walks right past the two young women without saying a word.  Humberto's doctor appears and Em breaks down in tears when he gets the news that Humberto is dead.  Renato just happens to arrive at that point so he can comfort Aldonza while Lola comforts Em.

As Sev continues on his way out of the hospital, he runs into Candela and Cris and tells them they might as well go back home and change.  Cande doesn't believe Sev's BS about how Hum's death hurts him.  Cande is shocked to hear there won't be a vigil.  Pru didn't want to have to explain anything.  So it's straight to the funeral and then…he and Cande need to talk.

Aldonza finds out from Renato that Valeria was already arrested.  Oh, and by the way, tomorrow's the last divorce hearing.  Aldonza says she's going ahead with the divorce, but she doesn't want to talk about it.  She asks about Silvia and basically tells Ren he knows nothing--she doesn't think he's in love with her.  She moves in for a kiss, but Ren says it wouldn't be sincere.  Aldonza's practically laughing when she says "No, it's because you're in love with Silvia!  You don't even know how to tell me!"  She and Ren just don't have that magic…but Ren and Silvia?  She tells him to think about it.  Yeah, Ren.  Think about it.

At Gonzalo's house, Silvia fills him in on her plans.  She'd like to travel a little and just kinda live in the moment.  She'll figure out the future later.  Maybe she'll go to Europe, but wherever she goes, she's only buying one-way tickets.  Gonzalo tells her that he AND Renato will miss her.  Because it's obvious to everyone but Renato who Renato is really in love with.

Humberto's funeral.  Sev watches from afar.  Valeria is still in her cell crying about how she killed him.  Pru sobs and drops dirt on the casket.  Sev smokes a cig.  Jerk.  Candela comforts Pru as she breaks down crying about how she's all alone now.

After the funeral, Cande stops to tell Emmanuel…something.  Once again, Lola tries to get in the way, but Em's in the mood to hear from everyone who ever mistreated him, I guess.  Cande says she's sorry for the death of his father--his real father, Humberto.  She begs his forgiveness for everything she did to him.  She knows it won't be easy, but she needed to say it.  She's been blind for years, and in the name of her love for her son and the supposed honor of her family name, she made a lot of mistakes, and did a lot of really low things that don't deserve even God's forgiveness.  She at least wants to admit to him that she was a "soberbia" (an arrogant person) and stupid, and that she's truly sorry.  She hopes Em and Lola get married and says they make a lovely couple.  She walks away, leaving Cris to stare after her for a moment before he hugs his brother.

I feel the need to tell you that I'm absolutely not jerking your chain, that's really what Cande said.  And I haven't been drinking, either.  It's Ultimas…makes people go a little crazy with the repentance….

Back at the house, Mari catches Irma up on apologizing to Em.  She asks to come back to work with Irma and have her pay docked so she can pay Lola back for bailing them out.  And what about the…?  No…?  OK, then, no admission of theft.  But no weeping, either, so there's that.

Cande finds Melesio at the cemetery and decides she'd like to go see where Raymundo Alcocer died.  Severiano stalks them.  Did he hear where she wanted to go?

Pato arrives at Mari's but Irma says she doesn't want to see him.  She advises him to give Mari a little time.

Em and Lola walk back to El Santuario.  Em hopes Humberto heard him in the hospital.  Lola remembers how nice Humberto always was, when she swallowed the engagement ring (that is now where?), and when he came to see Melesio and didn't charge her, and when he came to see her mom when she was pregnant…"Oh, I didn't tell you about that?"  She says she…and Cris…and Em…are all having a little brother or sister.  They laugh about it.  That's cold, show.  Cold.  Then she tells him they'll never know him/her because her mom is missing.  Em asks for more details.  Not that Lola has any.  She tells him about Sev and the truck AND THE COFFIN TABLE!  Em's freaked.  Cops!  Go!  Now!  He tells her about the coffin table, and the body inside…of a pregnant woman.  Please go to the cops, y'all!

Cande looks around the burned out barn. Mostly she wanted to see the place where everything started going wrong for her.

Lola freaks out in earnest.  Suddenly it all makes sense!  Em gets her to shut up and promises that they'll go to the cops as soon as she calms down.  Like that's going to happen!  Lola goes running for the house, stumbling and sobbing along the way.

Dominga brought Cris some food.  He thinks he'll be in a better mood when he leaves town. He has nothing to stay for.  Dominga isn't so sure he's "lost" Aldonza.  Plus, his mom needs him.  Meh, she's stronger than she looks.  Not that he doesn't care about her, but being around her hasn't been good for him.  Dominga thinks with Cris' help, Cande can find her way.  She decides to say her goodbyes to him now, in case she doesn't see him again.  She offers him a blessing, and then gives him back the scapular, which he left behind yet again, and says clearly he needs it, so don't take it off!

Lola has some tea while Em explains to her and Aldonza about finding the coffin table and why he didn't tell them.  Lola's pissed that the cops probably aren't going to believe her, but Aldonza says the cops don't believe in Sev like they used to.

In the MP/Incompetente's office, he's having a frustrating time questioning Valeria.  She keeps saying "it was an accident" and "it was Aldonza's fault" and she won't settle on one answer or the other.  He tells her she needs to say something that makes actual sense.  Good luck with that, dude!  "She's responsible for everything!  She came to destroy my life!  She's the one who's responsible for my father being dead!  She's the one who should be in jail, not me!"  Pru adds that she was Humberto's lover.  Incompetente reminds her that this is Valeria's time to make a statement, not hers!  Incompetente can't get anyone to tell him WHAT happened and HOW it happened.  Pru goes back to how "that woman" has been reeling her husband in.  Now it's Nava's turn to tell her to sit down and shut up if she wants to be helpful!  Oh, you want helpful?  "Well, let me tell you, the person my daughter wanted to kill was that slut, not her father!"  Thank you, Pru!  I think I laughed loud enough to scare the cats!  Val tells her to shut it!  Pru sounds like a "guacamaya" (macaw).  Pru and Val start screaming over each other and I can hardly make out anything, except for Val saying the cops should be arresting Aldonza (and even then, I'm not entirely sure, but it's a pretty good guess!) as she gets dragged back to her cell.  Nava is seriously losing his cool, as is Incompetente.  I'm sure they'd both very much like to be fired right now.

Dominga asks Cande about visiting the barn.  She tells Dominga that it was Ray's machete that cost Sev his arm (sort of).  She figured it was Sev and Roberta's love shack and Ray must have found them together.

Incompetente confirms that what Lola is saying is that the woman in the coffin table was her mother, Sev's lover.  He wants Lola to identify the body.  Oh, must we?!  He takes her to a storage room where the coffin table is taking up most of the space.  Oh, he said identify the "baúl" (trunk)!  That's a relief!  She says that's the one that was in the back of the truck.  Two guys helped him get it into the back of the truck--she saw them.  "We'll have to investigate that."  Lola speaks for us all when she asks QTH there is for him to investigate?!  Just nail the creep already!  How many more people does he have to kill before they stop him?!  Incompetente tells her to chill.  Lola asks where her mother's body is.  She ended up being buried in the "fosa común" (common grave) because no one claimed the body or knew who she was.  And, look, I understand that, but I can't help feeling they didn't try very hard, either, and this really sucks!  Lola says she had a name--Simoneta.  "Viviana Simoneta Saavedra."  QEPD.

Uriel asked around and heard that Valeria would probably be in jail for a while.  They don't know what will happen to the baby, but there's bound to be some complicated process.  Irma is going to go to Valeria and see if she'll give the baby to them.  Mari suggests trying to get Pru's help.  Uriel suggests a lawyer, as well.

Lola tells Em and Aldonza that it was the coffin table.  She's upset that Sev killed her mother and her little brother/sister.  Em is ready to go "ajustar cuentas" (settle the score) with Sev, but Aldonza (with a minimum of sarcasm) says the cops are actually going to help this time, so let them handle it.  At least he can pay for ONE of the many things he's done, and he'll finally get what he deserves.  Uh, sort of, I guess.  Em insists on taking Lola and Aldonza home before he goes to tell Cris what's happening.

Mari goes to Pato for legal advice, not their relationship.  He switches easily into lawyer mode and gets the story about Val's baby.  He says Irma and Uriel do have rights as grandparents, and a good chance of winning custody because Val won't really be able to care for the baby and she has a horrible record.  Pato will help, but it's a little early for that.  Now he wants to go back to talking about their relationship and whether what Lola said was true.  Mari easily admits she's been a terrible person.  "See why I wouldn't be any good for you?"  "I understand, but my heart doesn't. It's stubborn."  Mari keeps trying to convince him she doesn't deserve him, but he points out that her way of punishing herself is punishing him, too.  She still refuses.

Em tells Cris he's got bad news.  "Isn't there anything in this town that goes well?  What happened now?"  No, dude, it's not Aldonza.  It's Sev…again…he's going to be arrested any minute now for killing Simoneta.

The flunky is STILL watching the house and reporting to Sev.

Cris goes to tell Cande that Sev's going to be arrested.  "What for this time?"  Killing Simoneta.  Cande and Dominga are shocked.  Dominga realizes Lola was right to think something had happened.

Sev approaches his digs and sees cop cars lining the street, lights flashing.  Seriously, people?!  SERIOUSLY?!!!!!  Sev parks his truck and my tenure on this show ends with what has now become my favorite exclamation of outrage…"¡Me lleva!"  And I sure hope they do take him, finally!

Diva! Thank you for this recap! That scene with Pru telling the cops Val meant to kill Aldi and not her father made me laugh, that's always been Pru's MO right? Saying things when really she should keep quiet.

When I read your line about Candela comforting Pru I was all like "really? REALLY?" as if Cande could or would ever comfort someone.

Teeehee, this novela did not make me hit the bottle, that other novela that I refuse to name actually drove me to drink on a work night, Blue Moon was my friend! FYI, they make a Blue Moon Horchata beer that's delicious!

Kat - Thank you for the wonderful snarky recap!! And thank you for all the time and labor you have dedicated to recapping this telenovela for us Patio Peeps. Millones de gracias!!!

Cande really is trying to redeem herself. I was shocked when I heard her apologizing to Eman. Shocked, I tell you, as in ''Who are you and what did you do with wicked screeching Candela? ''

Pru has her nerve to tell the police that Aldonza was sleeping with Humberto. Her anvil better be as big as Sev's. That's all I have to say.

The scene at Det. Incompetente's, with Pru, Val, et al looked like an episode of Jerry Springer Show.

Eh, so Mari still hasn't 'fessed up to stealing her mom's money from her purse! Did the writers forget that little detail?

I could not believe the Brat Pack was already getting the word out that Sev is going to be arrested for Simoneta's murder . Um, yes, that's always a good idea to let the perp know the cops are out looking for him. Be sure to put it on SocialBook and twitter, too.

Kat- This was yet another amazing recap from you. You make it look so easy, but only because your natural humor and wit shines through every recap. Thank you.

Well, Incompetente finally had to do his job, and he didn't look happy about it. Loved the look on Sever's face when he realized that the cops had come for him (bad boy, bad boy, whatchya gonna do?). I'll enjoy it even more when he realizes ES is already in the hands of Al- Eman.

Kat, fabulous. Bravo on your wonderful finale.

I have long admired your marvelous recaps. Your Mujeres Asesinas summaries remain among the finest I've read these many years.

"perp walked", "I'll spare you Sev's fake platitudes" and "It's Ultimas…makes people go a little crazy with the repentance" were among my many favorites.

Emanuel was so kind hearted to forgive Mari so kindly. It tugs at my heart strings that those who suffer the most are usually the first to forgive and do so with great kindness.

“…and did a lot of really low things that don't deserve even God's forgiveness”. Finally some admittance of guilt. Which moved me not a whit by the way. Whether or not God forgives Cande or not remains to be seen. I do not.

Renato's quiet ruminating left no doubt he is preoccupied with thoughts of Silvia. It would be so nice to have this couple get together before the last 5 minutes of this novella.

Scarcely a moment after Eman and Lola happily reflected on their yet to be born sibling, Eman put the facts together for the sad and inevitable conclusion that the dead corpse was Simoneta. Another loss for Eman...

"Flavia's upset, if anyone cares". Nope - not at all. I hope Joaquin's heart mends in time...I don't care about Mari either but am a definite Pato fan. Give this man a good galan role. He deserves it.

No spoiler, but if I were a betting woman, I think Sev will not be caught. Right now. With 3 more episodes, he surely has ample time for a few more murders, doesn't he? Sigh.

Kat, I look forward to your next recap with eager anticipation. Thank you.

Diana

Question is, will Cande apologize to Aldonza? THAT, I've got to see to believe it!

Vivi, I also wondered how things would end with Cande and Aldonza.

I can't imagine what Cande could possibly say. Whatever it is, how could Aldonza possibly forgive her?

Oh wait. She is Eman's sister...

Seriously, I imagine the most realistic scenario is that Cande stops the hatred and vicious verbal attacks and that an uneasy truce is agreed upon. I would have a hard time with anything other than that.

Diana

DIVA, you have given us another splendid, hilarious recap, I'm sad to see this show end but you and the other recappers are giving it a grand send-off. Thank you so much!

If I squint at this episode, my overall impression is that it contained an awful lot of Mary. But I guess it goes with the big redemption theme carrying us to the gran finale:
Cande--lining up for redemption. Val, ditto, although hers awfully sudden and not so convincing (she's been poo-pooing Daddy throughout the whole show). Mary gets a crown for most noisy and annoying conversion to the light.
Tomas: Yes please, good job. Humberto: I never really thought he was THAT bad, but he apparently did, so I hope he died at peace. Who else, Flavia?

J in Oregon
THanks again Diva!!!

Diva, thanks for this outstanding recap. All the recaps for this TN have been at an excellent level! Great work from a great team. Also thanks for your extra work in arranging the recap archives, etc.

Thank you 5ft for another brilliant recap. My favorite, "Flavia's upset, if anyone cares". You got that right!

Thanks to the entire recapping team for this, one of my all-time favorite TNs. There have been a lot of snarky snarks about this one but IMHO I think is it right up there with Amor Bravio and LQNPA. I'm going to miss it.

I felt sorry for Val in the cell when she was lamenting how she killed her father. Wait. No I don't. But I love how in the ultimas semanas the bad guys turn on each other, i.e., that Sev killed Hum but now Val thinks that she did.

I could not make out that in Incompetente's office, Pru actually said that Val meant to kill Aldi. Thanks for clearing that up.

Please oh please I want to see Nava go down as the lying, rat bastard, immoral and corrupt jerk attorney that he is. I want to see Pato and Ren take him down. I want to see Silvia come back and take him out! (I want to win the lottery too.)

Thanks again 5ft and patio peeps!

Thanks so much , Kat, for yet another excellent recap.

I have been here at Caraycaray ever since Melinama created this site. In fact, I found Melinama in 2007 when she was singlehandedly recapping Alborada which I had accidentally surfed into one night. When you started recapping, Kat, I thought "Wow, who is this intelligent, funny girl?" I have been enjoying your clever, insightful , snarky recaps and comments. Thank you .

JinO- Do you really think Val crying about killing her dad in her cell means redemption? I just think it means she's human, and it's fitting punishment that she'll be tortured by the thought that she killed her own father. She certainly didn't seem on the road to redemption when later she was blaming Aldonza for her father's death. Nope, no redemption for Val in sight.

LaDiva, this was an enjoyable recap. Thank you mam.
I probably shouldn't laugh but when Em and lola were running to go to the cops about sim
In the coffin table she fell are slipped, it was kind of funny the way she was almost being draged. Anyways at least she'll get closure,
About her moms disappearance. The cops do nothing until sev murders someone, and then bearly. They are useless. There probably wont even be an autopsy to find out how hum really died. Awww jees!!!!!these people. Its good ally knows Ren is in love with silvia, now she needs to admit she don't want a De-vorce.
Cande is just full of surprises, padre J should see her now. I wish he"d come back to see sev get Arrested or die, witchever they write.
Val and pru, they're over.
I would like to see Don camil catch that sneak, sev hired by the collar and hoist him up in the tree, and let the old ladies in town beat him with sticks. Well everythings comin together. I'm off to bed. Catch you tomorrow patio peeps.

Thank you, Eli! I agree, I'm way more sober for this show. Good to give my liver a bit of a break :p Now Pru, on the other hand...ah, she always comes through in a pinch!

Thank you, doris! IKR...Cande started talking and I had to check my forehead for fever. At the rate Pru is going, she'll probably drop the anvil on her own head without even realizing it.

Thank you, Vivi! That is going to be a delicious moment when he realizes it was all for nothing and he'll never get his hands on ES! If Cande apologizes to Aldonza, I think I WILL need some booze to cope with that.

Thank you, Diana! Oh, no, I don't think they're taking Sev now. Not when they made it so very, very obvious they were waiting for him. Who does that?!

Thank you, J in O! There really was an awful lot of Mari for an episode that really didn't have much to do with her. I don't know what was up with that, but I'm glad it was less weepy today.

Thank you, La Paloma! I'm glad you enjoyed it :D And thank you also for the feedback on the maintenance stuff.

Thank you, LoriLoo! You know, I didn't really think about it, but you're right. Val only thinks she killed her dad, but technically Sev did it. I wonder what the cops will do if they figure that out.

Thank you, Susanlynn! Wow, those were the days. I got in at the tail end of La Fea Mas Bella. I don't know what possessed me to give this a try, but I'm so glad I did. It's my snark outlet :D

Thank you, Nina! Omigosh, yes...she stumbled and I thought "No! Not another Aldonza moment!...Oh, wait, she's getting up. OK, we're good."

VIVI--"Do you really think Val crying about killing her dad in her cell means redemption?" No--I don't, just musing about which characters the writers may try to convince us have seen the error of their ways. I don't think Val has had a change of heart, but that does seem to be a theme running through these last couple of weeks...

J in O

Thank you Kat for this one and all others. Also not lost to me is your commentary and participation post recap. Watching, sitting on the couch with you and Mr. 5 ft.

A shout out to Eli for Monday's and Helleshelle for Tuesday. Unfortunately my Hulu subscription doesn't work here so you guys recaps give me my fix.

Oh, my head feels like a football been kicked and this old girl suffers mighty from jet lag, however as I shop it abates somewhat. Headed to Tokyo tomorrow.

I liked Humberto.

If Renato wants Silvia he needs to follow her where ever she goes.

Many thanks, Kat! I'm always in awe of your speed and humor. Diana mentioned it too, but I also want to single out "I feel the need to tell you that I'm absolutely not jerking your chain, that's really what Cande said. And I haven't been drinking, either. It's Ultimas…makes people go a little crazy with the repentance…." . It's a great line.

Now that it's coming to a close, I'm looking back and really the only issues I have with the show is the lack of romance. I'm not sure if that's the fault of the writing or the lead actors.

Hey, 5ft, thanks for this. Super, as always.

I could see Val descending into insanity very easily, and Pru winding up as a bag lady, since apparently Hum didn't leave any kind of retirement savings account (maybe he did, but Pru spent it all on booze and prescription drugs.)

Cande is performing about as I thought; finding a source within herself to weather the cascading pieces of information about Sev's dastardly behavior.

Nope, Hum didn't get an autopsy. The index of suspicion in SL is characteristically low to non-existent.

BUT! Chief Cop gets a solved murder case plopped in his lap!?! Thank God Lola and Eman are finally comparing notes and acting in unison.

So, Rento's great love for Aldonza is just going to placidly dissipate like an ice cube left on the table over night to melt, then drip onto the floor?

I absolutely cannot wait to see the expression on Sev's face when he realizes that Hum ceded the farm to Aldonza prior to the accident! That will be "must see TV," and of course will have to send Sev off in a murderous rampage.

Well, we're leaving for Buffalo shortly, and I don't know about internet access or Univision availability until Monday.

Thanks again, 5ft! I don't know the ins and outs of how these recapping teams are formed or managed, but it is my understanding that you are the captain? If that is correct, then you have two feathers in your cap; one for your own exemplary work, and secondly as the manager of a true "dream team" of recappers. Thank you!

David

I second that! Kat/Diva/5ft is one helluva team captain. I don't think I can praise her enough. She's done so much not just for the team, but for the blog as a whole. She's my idol!

"Do you really think Val crying about killing her dad in her cell means redemption?"
No, no and heck no. No redemption for that hussy. Val is upset only because she is in jail..

Sara - ITA! I'm giving a standing ovation for our Diva and a dozen long stem roses.

Great work, Kat. You've given this series lots of great snark and circumstance!

No redemption for Vile. She will go to prison for attempted murder and the baby will go to Irma and Uriel. I'm sure Humberto's will left money for the baby's care, but left nothing for Vile herself or for Prudencia, as he had a divorce action against her for cause.

OK, is he fully divorced from her because we didn't see them in front of a judge with documents?

What the writers could shock us with is Aldonza finding out that Sev also raped Candela. Could you see her embracing Candela in sympathy and completely confounding her? Very cliche novela stuff although I think a little far-fetched for this one.

Very slip-shod of the police to not test the foetus for DNA, unless the writers will back-pedal on that one. They knew the woman in the trunk was a murder victim. If this were NYC in any of the L&O programs they would have stored the body at the morgue for much longer in an attempt to solve the case. They would have taken both sets of DNA. There would be X-Rays and photos on file. This would still be an open case. Here's hoping they are still looking for witnesses.

More later.

Val is crying cause shes in jail and cause she didn't kill ally. That heffa is right where she belongs, cause she still ain't sorry bout nothin shes done. Shes still blaming ally. Her crazy momma should be there with her.

She should, but the way she's going I'm guessing that Pru will OD before Vile has the baby.

As always, just brilliant Kat. These episodes this week are a recapper's dream for snark attacks and you had me giggling right along. Thanks so much for your all your efforts on this TN. What a team we've had!

Was Val crying for the loss of her father, yes, I think there was a that pin size dot left on her heart for that, but I think her true tears was for her life lost. Her ranting that Allie should be the one arrested was the blinding billboard that she truly believed all her antics were justified because someone had the nerve to mess up HER Mis plans. Not having any ability to truly see in herself she is the real reason for her own downfall, I agree, her outcome will be jail and insanity. Only way she can block out what she did.

As for some some self-realization, Cande is making head way. But I still feel this can't be enough for her past sins. Her manipulations shattered lives( and hiding the fact Val tried to kill Allie once already?), and E-man, lord love him the man has a heart of pure gold, may forgive her, but the TN gods must have more in store. Loved that bro hug.

Poor Simonetta. Was her being forgotten and buried in a common grave her punishment for daughter abandonment and staying with Sev? Have to say, these side characters sure are getting the anvils, there had better be something luscious for Sev at the end of this. Otherwise, I think the patio will feel cheated.

WTH with all this focus on Mari?? And not even having all her sins come out-Like the writers want us to forget all that so they can push her with Pato...just no. In her NOT coming fully clean, she stays on my dartboard.

Poor Cris, he even looked haggard. Has to be hell to keep hearing every few hours of another atrocity done by his father. He really does need time to grieve and come to grips with everything. Not sure I'm a fan of people always telling these kids to stick around and be there for parents, etc. In that, I wasn't agreeing with Dom. He's right he needs to distance himself from his mother -- otherwise in a way, she gets what she always wanted, having her son be there for her no matter what. That chain needs to be broken as some sort of penance for her sins too.

Next two nights will be crazy I"m sure. Then we better have a major time jump before the last hours to put these people's hearts and souls back together and let them heal. I say make it at least 6-7 months so we can see Irma/Uriel hopefully holding a baby?

So off on my trip today, though wow, nothing as far as tofie's. Tokyo!!?? That's Awesome! But I'm taking my tablet and maybe can check in HuluPlus in the mornings and check the recaps. Will be back with bells on for Monday's wrap up and will probably dive into the next 7:00 slot TN. I really like the time, and I do like the overall cast a lot on this next one (lukewarm on JR, but hopefully he'll rise above in this one. )

DIVA!! DIVA!!! DIVA!!!!! Muchisimas Gracias mi Captitan!! Capitana?! Thank you Diva, Fearless Leader for your wit and humor and word smithery and for keeping this whole blog afloat and accessible for Caraymates all over the world! I thank you also for helping me make this a very enjoyable hobby and opening up the whole world of virtual -- but real -- friendships and comraderie! YAY!

You know I loved the recap, Diva, and agree with you on so many points like the coldness of having Eman and Lola chortle together over the prospect of a shared sibling only to have them slammed in the face with the horrific nature of Viviana Simoneta's murder a moment later. Damn. Totally out cold!

Yep. Val is already bonkers. Her last cries of "I killed him." already had that weak and wispy sound of those who roam in a different dimension.

Anybody else think that Mari seemed to betray a sense of aggravation/sadness at the thought of a babylardo? They really lingered on her face after she said her parents wanted to care for him or some such and she definitely was NOT looking happy.

Like many of you LOVED Pru outing Val for attempted murder of Aldonza. I think one of my friends even predicted it. Anywho, I DID shout and paused to explain to Mr. Lila (who may be more interested in novelas than I think) what had just happened. Sometimes you just have GOT to share this stuff with a 3-D person! Man, that was great! Is Pru so stupid that she thinks because they despise Aldonza it's okay to attempt or succeed at killing her. Thank goodness for her idiocy and maybe if she keeps blabbing they'll lock her crazy arse up for something!

And Cande's apology to E-man was not as shocking as it might have been. On Friday she asked Cris about Aldonza without calling her a name or screeching. There was another time last week where she did the same and I had meant to note it in my comment but forgot. So, yeah, they definitely have Cande on the redemption train. But will it crash?

Sev the Dev. Hypocritical, lying, multi-faced, hell born and bound spawn of satan! Take him, yes, but let him live with his body and face, yah, face also, mangled, let him live on haunted by all his murder victims and phantom pain. I don't want the victims themselves to haunt him because that would be a hell for THEM. I want their souls to rest and let the phantom pain take on the spectre of Padre Sixto, Abelardo, Simoneta, Adelina and Humberto...hell, even though he didn't kill them add Roberta and Raimundo.

I like the element of the baddie not being in possession of key facts that will lead to their demise and misery. It's a small gift from the writers that WE know that Aldonza and Eman own ES but he think he's foiled the transfer by killing Hum. Love that.

So again, thank you, Diva, and I look forward to all the other insightful and fun comments to come!

Diva - I'll take a note from Lila and call you "Captain, my captain!" Great recap. You are definitely the bar - hilarious, succinct, insightful. 5ft of fabulous, every single time!

And what about the…? No…? OK, then, no admission of theft. But no weeping, either, so there's that. Sigh. Big sigh.

You know, I think I understand Eman's reactions because I also feel the drama fatigue of not seeing devine retribution. So Mari was a b**** to him but didn't get struck my lightening? Ok then fine. I'm so tired of her that all I want is for her to go away. And he's right: at the end of the day, he's got a family that cares about him, his girl, his horse, some land (ironically through his mother rather than his father). What good would it do him NOT to forgive these people? Sigh. Whatever, man.

I think I can see an ending for Cris and Aldonza that works: They divorce. Cris packs up and leaves. Aldonza and Eman work their land. Aldonza gets therapy. Cris gets therapy. C and A begin talking through Eman and end up actually getting to know each other. Eman and Lola get married. Cris returns for the wedding. He and Aldonza catch up and share a big enough moment to know the original spark is still there. He flies back to Spain or wherever. He gets home and there's Aldonza waiting for him. They begin again. In between the rest of the case, this is 10 minutes, tops.

Hellashelle..That ending works for me, but I fear that the writers are not intelligent enough to craft that finish.

I , too, cannot believe all the screentime the writers have given to Mari' s never ending mea culpa. Just go off with Potato then. Just stop. Enough.

I would not be surprised to see Candy retreating to the convent. Somehow in her mind , she would be with her onetruelove PadreJer serving the Lord. By the way, why would the writers take Super Padre out of last episodes ? Did the actor have another commitment or something? Am I correct in thinking that Padre still does not know about the rapes?

Sara...Seeing your dad's smiling face every time I read one of your comments makes me smile , too, and I always appreciate given a reason to smile.

Susanlynn - Padre knows about Aldi's rape but not Cande's. Only Cande, Sev, and Dom know about Cande's.

Maybe Val's anvil is serving a life sentence for a murder she didn't commit, although she thinks she did - when it was Sev who finished him off.

Can't wait to see Sev's reaction when he finds out that ES will not be his. I hope the writers don't cheat us out of that since there are only 3 episodes left.

Hello everyone! I've sooo missed my patio time! My DIL's father got very sick this summer and it has upended the last couple of months, he is much better now. We went from casual babysitters to full timers off and on for several weeks. I've been speed watching through the 18 episodes that I missed but realized I won't make it, so skipped to the last three so I can join in the finale fun!! I still can't believe Adelina is dead! This novela is about the good dying young, or middle aged, but still dying!

Diva, fantastic recap as usual. I really, really love your asides: "It's Ultimas…makes people go a little crazy with the repentance..." "when she (Lola) swallowed the engagement ring (that is now where?)" and "Sev approaches his digs and sees cop cars lining the street, lights flashing. Seriously, people?! SERIOUSLY?!!!!!" Diva, your recaps are such great fun, thanks for all your hard work on Sombra.

More later.....

Cynthia Klitbo really outdid herself in this role. She deserves some kind of award. I really liked Tomas as well. I just wish Pru would have to pay for what she did to Silvia. I hate it when TN writers blow past these situations that happen to supporting characters.

I love Padre J and will fight anyone on the patio.

I feel the need to tell you that I'm absolutely not jerking your chain, that's really what Cande said. And I haven't been drinking, either. It's Ultimas…makes people go a little crazy with the repentance….

Ah, just had to reprint that paragraph. So apt. So on target. And yes, Ultimas always are crazy with repentance. Although my favorite moment was in Heridas de Amor, when Ingrid Martz told evil Diana Bracho that "she forgave her" and Diana snapped back, well I'm not sorry at all for what I did!!!! Evil and unrepentant till the end.

I guess we can expect that from soulless, conscience-less Severiano as well.

Diva, you've been working overtime, cleaning up the blog, pinch-hitting for team members when they couldn't recap, and always turning out witty, readable resumens week after week, month after month, year after year. You are the Gift That Keeps On Giving, amiga mia. Thank you.

I was going to try and stay away from telenovelas and CarayCaray this year and just concentrate on studying Spanish. And guess what...found out I hated studying and really missed CarayCaray. And all because of the wonderful patio and the sparkling recaps. Live and learn, Ms. Judy. Live and Learn.

Thank you, tofie! Safe travels to you. I am really glad Silvia stopped waiting around for Renato and is going to do her own thing...but if she happens to find him sitting next to her on the plane with a one-way ticket of his own, I won't be complaining.

Thank you, Sara! I agree, it wasn't a bad show. It had its frustrating moments, and things that could have been done better, but "bad"? Eh, not so much.

Thank you, David! Have a safe trip to Buffalo! Your description of Renato's great love as the slowly melting ice cube was so poetic. And funny. And accurate!

Thank you, Urban Anthropologist! I think the divorce was in the works, but you're right--nothing has been signed. Good thing the will was, at least! If the shared experience somehow brings Cande and Aldonza together...they would have to do an amazing job to sell it. The actors, the writers, the director, the entire production team. Would they try it? Maybe. Would they be convincing? Yikes...as much as I'd love to be pleasantly surprised, I'm not counting on it!

Thank you, Daisynjay! No kidding! All these secondary characters who, ok, did some bad stuff, are REALLY getting trounced...Sev's anvil would have to be spectacular. So spectacular I can hear the cheers going up from each time zone like it's New Year's Eve, complete with fireworks. Have a safe trip!

Thank you, Lila! Mari is definitely not as excited as her parents about the possibility of a new baby moving into the house, but I don't know what it is. Maybe she's thinking she's being replaced again, but she can't even get angry about it because she feels like she deserves it? Did I just feel a little sorry for Mari? I think I need to go lie down until it passes. (If Mr. Lila is like Mr. 5ft, he's totally watching even if he won't admit it. It gets amusing when you just sit there without saying anything and he starts asking "Wait, did she just say...?" Not watching, hm?)

Thank you, HellaShelle! I would back that play. 10 minutes of Cris and Aldonza, with everyone else getting their big weddings and pairing up and C&A just having a quiet "OK, let's start over." That, I would believe.

Thank you, Sandy in TN! I'm glad to hear your consuegro is doing better. I'm suddenly glad that we have a weekend before the finale episode, in case you missed anything truly important (which I kind of doubt). I hear you, I did not envision Adelina going out like that, or really at all. Humberto's death (at least the part Val had a hand in) was also a shock.

Thank you, JudyB! Oh, can we please have Sev stay Evil and Proud until the end! It will make it that much sweeter when he's finally brought down :D Plus, Alexis Ayala does "creepy" so well!

Thank you, everyone, for all the love and support you've shown me and the team. I gladly accept the accolades, and at the same time I want you to know that I recognize without my team, I would be nothing but Pru with a bad case of carpal tunnel from recapping alone. I feel I must give them a great deal of the credit! I hope you'll be joining us for Muchacha Italiana. (Everyone's returning except HellaShelle--who we will miss so much!)

LoriLoo - I hope we see Padre again.

JudyB - it's very hard to stay away from Caray. It's a wonderful place.

Not to mention that watching telenovelas does improve one's Spanish. And it's much more fun than grammar lessons.

I agree, Sara, we do need to see Padre J again before the end. And wouldn't he look just spectacular all decked out for a wedding...anyone's wedding :D Or baptizing Babylardo. Just as long as he comes back.

That's what I'm hoping for, Kat!

Yes Sara, I desperately want to see Padre again, AND, Caray is a wonderful place.

Urban - ITA. I started watching TNs as a Spanish class assignment in 2003, and have been hooked ever since. And it does improve one's Spanish.

My Mr. Loo is like Mr. Lila and Mr. 5ft. He doesn't "watch" either. And then I'll hear him say, oh he/she's a baddie!

My mister seems to know all the actors and what roles they've played and their nicknames.

He knows Guppy Lips and Willy Boy.

OK Sara, I have to ask - who is Guppy Lips? Is Willy Boy William Levy?

My sister gets hooked whenever she comes to visit me. She even continued to watch La Malquerida on her own when she went back home, and she can't speak a bit of Spanish. On the occasions that I watch a tn at my parents' house, my dad can't tear his eyes away from the tv. :) Just think how addicted they would be if they were also part of THIS community. No wonder so many of us can't tear ourselves away for too long. Judy- I'm glad you jumped back in.

Wow, guys, look at how we're broadening the horizons of our loved ones! Secretly watching hubbies, addicted sisters. . .what fun! the only thing that keeps me away are pesky life crises. When I can get back though I feel so fortunate to at least not have the mayhem in my life these novelaites have but, unfortunately, some of the personalities and situations are familiar.

Thank goodness I've never had a Sev in my lie! Yikes!

LoriLoo - Guppy Lips was the nickname given to Sabine Moussier's character in Abismo de Pasión. Hubs recognized her the few times I watched QTPD.

Willy Boy was a character in Amorcito Corazón. Hubs recognized him when I watched La Gata.

Vivi - same goes for my mom when I visit her in Colorado!

I will not be home on Monday evening so I made arrangements at work to leave early on Tuesday to watch the Fin on Hulu, before I have to leave again on Tuesday. Priorities, no?

Susanlynn - thank you for your kind words about my Dad. He had a great smile. I lived to hear him laugh.

Hey, Sandy! Long time no see!

Lol Sara! I wasn't familiar with Guppy Lips but Mr. Loo remarked on the few occasions that I watched Abismo that Sabine was a "baddie".

Miss Judy, you are not allowed to leave us!

The only problem with watching TNs when I visit family is that they live close enough to the border to pick up the stations from Mexico, that are amost always ahead! My nephew's nana scolded me for watching a couple of episodes of Pasion one time after I told her the US station wasn't up to that part yet, but how could I resist :D

Sara, I don't remember seeing Guppy lips but I remember someone making a joke about Orangegina losing her tangarine (when she lost the baby), it got to the point where my kid sister would walk in the room just to ask "what's Orangegina's evil plan this week"?

My mother watched an episode of Ramona with me after she got her big-screen TV (that's the 90s-type set). She actually got why I watch these shows although she was not of a mind to start learning Spanish.

You know, this is making me think that if I ever opened something like a bar or a restaurant, I wouldn't show sports on the TVs, I'd put on telenovelas. Just spring for one of those services that has a 24-hour channel that shows reruns of older shows, tune it to the newer ones for primetime...and then try really hard not to get distracted all day :D

Orangeina was another nickname, Eli! She was definitely a baddie.

And it's great that they have the English captions available, so you don't actually have to learn Spanish if you don't want to. Assuming they work--I haven't been able to get mine to work on the new cable box. I'm just not selecting all the correct options. It's too bad. On some of the English-language stations that same closed caption channel showed Spanish captions. It was fun watching something on SyFy and seeing the translation :D

This has been said before, Cynthia Kiltbo has done a wonderful job with her interpretation of Pru. I once saw a program about Steve McQueen and his ability to “steal a scene.” Cynthia has that same talent in spades. From using her bra as a storage bin, to picking up flecks of her pharmaceuticals on a table, all eyes are on her. I noticed that once, when she was talking to Val, her exaggerated swag to the closet and back was more riveting than the dialogue. Kudos to Cynthia and I agree, she must win an award for her role in La Sombra.

It isn’t over yet, but for me the most wonderful scene in the novela so far was the tiny, tiny finger movement of Humberto when Eman was crying on this bed, I’m afraid I’ll remember that forever. I feel that Humberto had a moment of peace before his death, and I’m glad for it. He didn’t die estranged from the adopted son that he loved. Some may disagree, but I think Humberto’s heart was in the right place, his home just became a terrible hornets’ nest and he didn’t intercede. Many busy men have made that mistake.

Diva, that's a great idea! Would you change the decor to reflect your favorite prime time show and let patrons participate? Fun joint!

Sandy, Cynthia has been amazing, and just getting better and better every episode. I don't know how some of the other actors keep from laughing in their scenes with her!

Sandy- Humberto reaching out to Em and the Padre's departure are the scenes that I will remember most.

Hum did make terrible decisions, but though the whole show I felt he struggled with the guilt and in the end tried to make things right.

Lol, Lila! That would be awesome to redecorate for every show :D I might have a hard time getting people to go home, though!

Hey, Sandy in TN! ITA, Humberto was the nicest "bad guy" I've ever seen! I so wished they would have let Eman acknowledge Hum's hearing his anguished cries!

Echo everyone who says PJ has GOT to come back! He's just GOT to! Although I doubt it, I would like to see Don Tonio again to know that he knows Sev got his comeuppance.

Sandy - I too loved the Hum finger movement scene. In an old TN called Olvidarte Jamas, the police helped fake a death just to catch the killer. I was so hoping that for Hum but I guess not.

I always liked Hum. I especially liked Monday's scene when he was strangling Severed.

Sara, that's what makes it seem so unfair. Humberto at least knew he was doing wrong and felt bad about it. He was already living in torment for decades. Meanwhile Sev has been sleeping like a baby (mostly) so I'm going to be vastly disappointed if after all that Sev's anvil is just...jail.

LoriLoo! I was just going to say that about Hum's death being faked but thought, nah! You know what, that would be so great and it would be an absolute shock because I don't see any signs of it being fake...though we didn't see him in the coffin! Quiero Amarte featured a fake probable death of the Patriarch of the family and was it sweet when he reappeared to dress down his greedy/graspy/murderous "son" and wife! Ahhhh! That would be soooo cool!

5ft - weeks or months ago someone suggested that Sev lose his other arm and then get thrown into the waters of ES for his anvil. We would take bets on whether or not he could swim.

I wish they would have used the phantom pain more often here near the end, since his evil just knows no bounds.

Both Hum and Adelina were good people, who hid some very bad secrets and made some mistakes. Hum's secrets and mistakes were much greater than Adelina's (kidnapping, accessory to murder, falsifying death and birth certificates). Both were killed by Sever to protect his secrets and reputation.

Obviously, the cops in Santa Lucia don't watch TNs or they would have had some much better ideas for how to catch Sev rather than relying on mail-order lab tests!

Well tomorrow is the last divorce proceeding. Last chance for Cris and Aldonza to call it off. If either does, I vote for her. I'd like to see her really go after this relationship for once.

I can kind of see Aldonza just saying "screw it" and forgiving Candela, but only in light of the rapes. I saw some verbalized growth last night when she told Eman to let the police handle it. The way she said it sounded like she was feeling the burn of trying to get revenge on her own.

PS: Cande's plea for forgiveness annoyed me. This TN has really made me realize how petty and vengeful I am.

LoriLoo, I can't decide if he's having the phantom pain randomly or if it's only at specific moments. At first, it seemed to be connected to thinking about killing Simoneta, but then it branched out to other times.

HellaShelle, is it really petty? She's been evil for a looooooong time. She can't make up for that inside of five minutes.

Vivi, sometimes I forget that not every death is a punishment. It's especially difficult in this one because we have these "grey" characters who were neither completely good nor completely evil.

Sandy- yes! It was so sad to see Humberto try to reach out to his child and have E-man miss it! It also made me so angry because I think that was a sign that Humberto could have recovered but Sev made sure that did not happen! I wish bad, horrible things on Severiano!

Hellashelle- come sit with me at the petty and vengeful table. I'll buy you a drink.

I'm not going to call anybody petty and vengeful. It does and should take more than five minutes of apology to make up for decades of cruelty and humiliation.

But isn't it fascinating how these stories trigger such strong emotional reactions in us? I HAVE learned a lot about myself watching these and commenting on them. And it was not particularly flattering. But I think both the stories and the patio can be incredibly therapeutic.

Anyhow, I'm still sitting at the Chronically Dazed and Confused Table, thank you. It's located in God's Little Waiting Room.

Those bad horrible things are coming later tonite in about 4 hours. So that other TN starts tomorrow nite or monday nite? Wait, lets finish this one first. I to wish hum had lived. But when you lay down with snakes (sev) you get bit, fataly. But came clean before the end. He is now an offical good guy.

Lila, “I so wished they would have let Eman acknowledge Hum's hearing his anguished cries!” Yesssss! That would have made MY enjoyment of the novela so much better!

LoriLoo, I wanted a fake death too, even an ET kind of a thing would have been Ok with me! Who the writers mark for death annoys me so very much!

Eli P, yes, seeing Eman miss the gesture surprised me and made me mad and disappointed. I’m glad Hum heard Eman, that was better than nothing.

Vivi, I thought Hum was a basically a good person as well, who in the heat of a moment (or two) made bad decisions, but truly evil people infect good people all the time. The truly evil spirit is Sev, as we all know.

Speaking of annoying, the little self sacrificing speech Mari gave to Pato should be banished from any remake and actually just destroyed altogether.

I think the phantom pain was associated with him doing evil, it just came on after he killed Simoneta, which I think was his real cross over moment because it wasn't a death he planned.

I want to believe Hum's movement was meant to make it clear to the audience that Sev killed him in an act of pure monstrosity. Unlike with Adriano, who simply slipped away.

Ok, I have a confession: I totally thought last night's episode would end with Hum, PJ and Adriano meeting up in a secret place and we'd get a reveal that Adriano woke up and promised state's evidence in exchange for protective custody and then Hum went to PJ and then the cops and they all concocted a plan. Hum woke up after Val and Pru snuck out and spoke to the cops who have him under protective custody as well. He anticipated Sev's murder attempt and faked his death with the cooperation of the med staff and...

I have got to lay off the double chocolate cupcakes. They make my conspiracy theory meter go up.

Sara - YES!!! Melon margaritas!!!

Sandy, my eyes teared up when I read your: "It isn’t over yet, but for me the most wonderful scene in the novela so far was the tiny, tiny finger movement of Humberto when Eman was crying on this bed, I’m afraid I’ll remember that forever. I feel that Humberto had a moment of peace before his death"...".

Welcome back.

Diana

HellaShelle, oh is that what double chocolate cupcakes do? :D I think there's still a chance Adriano could be in witness protection, PJ could be planning something, and Don Antonio and Vero could be in on it. Silvia, clearly, has simply had enough of this town and is leaving them to their own devices!

Diana, "Sandy, my eyes teared up when I read..." Honestly, small moments like that help us run the endurance race that is these novelas....

Sara- I'm both blood thirsty and vengeful can I join your table?

You're more than welcome. What's your drink of choice?

Squeee hellashelle! I totally forgot about Adriano. I read the comments before I saw the episode where Nava told Severed that Adriano was "declared" dead. And as the commenters commented, Nava was extremely very nervous, almost guilty. Maybe your conspiracy theory isn't that far off!

I want Nava to burn in hell with Sev. Should I join the petty and vengeful table?

I'm going out in a few minutes but just want to add that I'd love for Humberto's death to have been faked. It went too fast from the flatline to the funeral.

Sadly, there is no drink called "The Anvil" or it would be perfect to serve at the Petty and Vengeful table.

We could totally make one up.

Heeey... There's a bar in Houston named "The Anvil"...

The Anvil should be something so strong it would just knock you off your chair after the first sip or two. My parents gave an office party once where they served up a drink called Artillery Punch. People got looped. Things were said. Possibly things were done. My parents NEVER gave another party. That one experience was enough!

Here's my recipe for "The Anvil":

4 oz. Cachaca
2 oz. crushed Ghost peppers
6 oz. crushed ice - as "vengence is a dish best served cold" (Khan: Star Trek)

Bwahhahahaha!

LOL!!! OMG!!!! I love all of you so much right now :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Loriloo-You are SO EVIL!!! That drink sounds like it would actually kill me.

The idea for the Anvil is the best idea ever. Diva can your bar be The Bar at The Naughty Melon? I envision a bar/restaurant, with a seperate Patio area (low music, perfect for talking). On the other side of the building is the shop part with all of the merch needed to really enjoy your life. And every time a TN hits Ultimas Semanas, The Anvil gets extra promotion and discounted on Gran Final night.

The absolute worst of Humberto's death was the funeral (beautiful) with PRUDENCIA, the survivor, sprinkling dirt on HIS grave. I really think Hum's death was a harsh blow....

Count me in for a patio Anvil or two........

Great idea hellashelle! And the shop will sell Irma's ribbons and of course, titanium lined beanies!

Wow, JudyB...I just looked up a recipe for Artillery Punch.

http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/artillery-punch-200304

JudyB, that sounds like an aptly named drink!

LoriLoo, that is evil and I like it!

HellaShelle, we'll have surprise Happy Hour when the show is going well :D

Sandy, I'm not sure Pru can survive on her own. I'm still not convince that Juana is getting paid. And now Juana is all she has left! (Personally, I hope she makes a run for it before she ends up having to explain to the cops how la senora ended up OD-ing.)

Sara- there's a drink called "the painkiller" it has rum, coconut and other stuff in it!

That sounds kind of good, Eli!

Sara- it is! When I go to eat there I end up paying more for my drinks than my food :(

Been away. Got to catch up with comments but Hellashelle at 4:08!! YES!! I LOVE that ending! That would be SOOOO SWEEET!! I LOVE IT!

Ok, back to comments!

JudyB: the Artillery Punch sounds almost disturbingly delicious. And yet so innocent when served from a punch bowl.
