The fetus is not mine! La Sombra Del Pasado 08/12/15 #126 (Mx 129)
Labels: sombra
"Sev gives up and starts his long walk of shame out of Las Animas, it was Awesome." It so was. I had to watch it twice. Is it just me or is Cande good with a gun? It looked like she didn't *have* to miss him if she didn't want to.
I'm baffled by the conversation between Sev and Nava. Sev sounds like he's asking for the impossible. I would think that they're going to need some proof of an affair, if that's how he plans to take Cande for everything she's got. And how stupid is that when he has living, breathing, walking, ripped-ab-having proof of his own infidelity?
I don't think there's any privacy in Telenovelandia for anything--medical, legal, or otherwise. I'm glad Cris found out it's not his baby, but what a cheat not to have him find out using his own brain cells! Well, um...at least now we know that he knows how to count?
Thank you again, Eli, this had me rolling from the title and I'm going to enjoy it all over again with my morning coffee :D (You're totally welcome for Monday, I'm so glad you got this one instead!)
SO GREAT!!! I gotta say I was way impressed that Cande handled Sev that way. I was disappointed (but not surprised) that we got the standard no rape kit, no report last night, but kicking him off her property at gunpoint was fantastic! Still sad she didn't report it though because he's suiing her after raping her is just so very, very wrong.
I liked Eman's convo with Aldie about Cris. He knows Cris better than she does.
Sleep calls, see y'all tomorrow!
"Sev gives up and starts his long walk of shame out of Las Animas, it was Awesome. He didn't even have shoes on, or slippers, he had to walk into town in his pjs, or maybe he took an Uber" was fabulous. Evidenced by "she wants payback for the abuse she suffered at the hand (that never gets old) of Severiano", you were on fire...
Just when I think Sev has hit rock bottom, the earth opens and he descends another foot into hell: "He then tells her that the only way she can make her situation better is to have an abortion, then he tells her to leave before he kicks the baby out of her". The devil incarnate.
Seeing Sev forced to leave without possessions, stripped of all ownership and privileges, clad in only his pajamas was fitting justice. Having an audience to his expulsion added another savory dimension. It was right and fitting that Cande, his duplicitous partner in crime be the one turning him out from his home where he lost any pride and all dignity. Well done...
I believe Renato is ruing the day he let Sylvia go. It appears he will get another opportunity. Not quite sure if Tomas is priestly material but I wish him the best.
Although Valeria's doctor's disregard for privileged information was wrong on so many levels (as you noted "is there no Hippa in Mexico?"),at least Cris now knows the truth.
The sad truth is that if this revelation could solve all of Cris and Aldonza's problems, things would be wrapping up nicely. However, the pregnancy was but one truth. There are other sordid details and secrets that need to be revealed in order for the couple to come together in any sort of realistic fashion. With so few episodes left, I don't see how that will be accomplished.
How can the good Padre leave with the fate and future of his beloved Aldonza hanging in the balance?
Diana
And I think the whole town no longer respects him. Incompetente was even agreeing with Uriel about how Sev's going to get away with something...again.
Diva, I saw that scene like four times and laughed so hard, especially at the little crowd that gathered behind Candela, it was wonderful to have people see how far sev had fallen and how all along Cande was the one with the deep pockets.
Yay for Cris, he knows how to count, now he can move on to wearing big boy pants!
Great comment Kat! Yes, there doesn't seem to be any information that stays confidential for long! As you noted, at least Cris now knows there is absolutely no way he is the father's child.
Diana
And it was indeed a thing of joy to watch disheveled, shoeless Sever shuffle out of LA in his jammies. Even better that all the LA staff was watching. Loved Mudo joyously tell Val that Sev no longer lived there. So great!
How ironic that the one woman he hasn't raped is threatening to accuse him of rap. But Val should really just leave him alone if she doesn't want to get killed. By the way, I believe Val is 14 weeks pregnant. Yay for indiscrete doctors!
With only a week to go, I don't think any of Sev's plans for divorcing and fleecing Cande are going to see the light of day.
It felt like a parallel to the time she shot Aldonza and everyone was suspicious of Sev, when that was the ONE time he had nothing to do with it.
Vivi, I totally agree. I can't wait to see his downward spiral continue.
Diana
Only thing that could have made the scene of Sev's departure any better would have been if his pajamas had had big dots on them.
Also getting a kick out of Lola and her Letter to the Long Lost Lovelorn, wonder how many responses she will get?
Dead-Men-Walking list (besides Sev): Hum, Don Antonio...anyone else?\

i am disappointed silvia/tomas are not going to ba a couple. i liked these two together, too!
i kept hearing "camino" in this episode...ido yall think that was a possible theme to this episode? padre j said it with aldonza (i think) and candela and i heard silvia use it with tomas. i am asking because my spanish is still in the baby stages :)
and, good for candela! making that man look small in front of his employees probably hurt sev more than any bullet. though, i kinda was hoping the bullet would win out.
i would have youtubed it, too, then facebooked it, blogged it, vined it, instagrammed it....
thank you again for the recap,
The walk of shame begins. Today Las Animas, tomorrow Santa Lucia. Next week, the world. Sev's Karmageddon won't come until everyone knows what he really is. That was truly delicious.
I guess we're being set up for Vile to die during an abortion or for it to be prevented by somebody. And I wonder how well-known this is known in Mexico.
Recommendation: Vile gets prevented from having the abortion by the gyn who tipped off Cristobal. Mari spills about BabyLardo, and Sev spills about Vile taking his rifle and shooting Aldonza. BabyLardo is born in a women's prison and given to Irma and Uriel.
More later.
So Cande listened to the patio...well, not really, but fun to think someone did. Loved the whole "walk of shame" and everyone just letting it happen. Now, that said, did I want to slap her silly when she pulled the "Mother needs to know all your movements" with Cris after the call last night. Good lord woman, give it a rest. We're trying to feel bad for you.
Disappointed with the Silvia/Tomas break up, but realistically though they were sweet together, long term in reality not sure how they could work. And of course, we know this leads to her with Ren. I would prefer they leave that vague and let them possibly be working their way back to each other instead of some big undying "I really loved you all along" by him.
I agree Sev was just sinking more into his LaLaLand thinking he could go after Cande. He may have some vested interest in the business side or the ownership of horses, but the property is hers and no "affair" is going to give him that. To me that was a knee jerk in realizing he is losing everything, so in his increasing insanity he thinks he can get it all back by whatever means necessary. And since Nava's paycheck relies on him, he'll go along with anything.
So do we get Val dying in an abortion attempt or Cris promise to help her anyway and then the baby can go to Irma/Uriel?
Nice to know Joaquin has been working his butt off while all the crap was hitting the fan and his own life was a mess. That man so needs a happy ending and Flavia is not it!!
Daisynjay
The girl is Mine - camino means path, and with Silvia striking out on her own path, Aldonza and Eman finally able to really take the paths they want, Candela also choosing to walk a new path alone and Sev literally walking a path to destruction, maybe it was a theme of sorts.
I'm thinking Mari somehow gets wind of Val's plan, confesses her "suspicions" to her parents and between Cris, Hum, Uriel and Irma they somehow convince her to have the child? Either that, or she has the abortion and becomes barren (an old TN standard that always makes me a little sick).
UA - I imagine it will be more of a scene in which Ren says he was an idiot who didn't know how to value her and asks for another chance and she says "eh, sure, why not" but makes it clear that said realtionship won't make or break her.
Is it weird that the people who've had the most growth on this show have been 1) Tomas 2) Hum and 3) maybe Candela?! Actually, it's been actual growth for Tomas, it's been more like introspection for Hum and desperation for Candela.
Speaking of which, I guess PJ had no problem figuring out his and Cande's relationship. On the patio, we've been going back and forth wondering what the heck with it, and he's just like "We had kind of a thing and it was nice and might have turned into The Thing. But I fell in love with God. And you found solace for your sadness by wrapping yourself in these memories until they became much grander than they really were." Sounds so simple when he says it.
Yeah, there's been no justice for Joaquin.
I wonder if the fact that Val had identified Cris as the father of her baby mitigated the HIPPA laws.
I savored every second of Sev's expulsion from his marital home and his walk of shame into town. I love the fact that he owns NOTHING and his staying there is at Cande's whim.
Nava's ideas about how Sev could get back at Cande sounded like a lot of puff to me. I don't think the guy is a particularly good lawyer by any stretch, and now his lack of expertise is going to undermine Sev's plans. Pretty soon Sev is going to need a really good lawyer, and Nava isn't going to fill the bill.
Although Cande walked past Eman and Aldonza with her nose in the air, I thought she was considerably less antagonistic toward them than she had been before. Maybe her snooty ass is beginning to come around.
Well, my hope for public humiliation got a big leg up last night, but I hope that all the people who have done bad things are totally exposed to everyone.
Another night without any talk about the pregnant woman in the coffin table.
Thanks again, Eli. I really liked this.
David
I'm on nieta babysitting duty today, so will catch up later during her naptime. She is almost two years old, so no rest for the weary --- or AARP crowd --- until then. Wheeeee!
All I can say is that it's too bad Sev doesn't sleep in his undies, or in the buff. THAT would have been more entertaining when Cande ran him off the ranch.
I loved El Mudo's end zone dance (of sorts) with his hands, in the stand, during that whole scene.
And 'that baby is not mine' are the first intelligent words from our Cara de Bobo Anti-galán.
Vile and Putrid's meltdown is also a wonder to behold. You are so right, Eli, Vile IS cold. She even said if Pru wants to kill herself with booze and pills, let her go ahead! Yikes! So now that Pru doesn't have to blab about babylardo, what other havoc will she wreak with her mouth. . .well, I guess downing pills and booze! I can't wait to see Cande's reaction when she finds out Vile has been playing her -- BIG TIME. Cande was really pleased when she saw the ultra sound report. How will Irma and Uriel find out? Will they have Vile, and thus the baby, die in a failed/botched abortion?
Speaking of the Lagos, unfortunately for those of us who don't want to see Mari redeemed without speaking her sins, is Mari now going to go to Lola and try to thank her or will she try to pay Lola back? We don't know how much the interest was or how much moola Mari had in the bank. Why did they let Mari be a part of the realization instead of Irma and Uriel? I don't know. Mari is sure getting a lot of face time and this smells like it's eventually going to turn out as a big browinie point for Mari!
I'm sorry, I've forgotten who said that Vile should take back the alibi she offered for Sev for the night of Adelina's murder but YES! That would be great! They're stringing us along with this. And I'm not aware that anyone told Aldonza that her death appeared to be a suicide. Did they? Or did they decide that since they couldn't link it to Sev nor had any other suspect they would just let her think it was suicide? Did they even tell Padre?
And, as some of you asked, what is going on with the coffin table investigation? Eman was sworn not to tell Aldonza about it but not Lola. There's no reason for him to bring it up with Lola and why would he slip? One doesn't just mention bloated corpses found in trunks that washed up on river banks casually. Well. It's got to happen soon.
I'm disappointed that PJ has flipped on his refusing to leave SL after what he learned about the rape. Yes, yes, I understand, the commitment to the Church is strong, etc. With Sev royally pissed at being kicked out on his arse and Javier hanging around watching Aldonza, I feel a set up for a repeated attempted rape and perhaps murder attempt on Aldonza. One of the BOD SQUAD which now includes Big little Brother, will stop it and it would be a great opportunity to kill Sev, but that would be too easy.
Well. Exciting episodes, great recaps and comments on tap for the next eight days! Thank you, Eli!
"he had to walk into town in his pjs, or maybe he took an Uber"
Hey Vivi, I thought the same about the irony, Val the one not raped threatened him with exposure.
Don't know, though I've rooted for Cris the whole time despite complaining about him, what does he think he's accomplishing by demanding Severiano tell him the truth about anything over and over and over. When I see him he's some tiny yapper dog barking at a jogger from inside a fence.
Pru doesn't deserve an end devoid of more suffering. She's heavily self sedated and could just slip away quietly without ever knowing she did a thing wrong.
I wanted Cande to bare her soul to PJ.
You can concoct all kinds of crap that has no foot in reality in a petition for divorce and used as leverage in negotiation. I think Severiano expects Cande to back off with an accusation of infidelity with PJ. He thinks it would never go to court and he may be right.
THIS. This is sidebar-worthy.
Nieta not here yet but due any minute . . . so more comment-bombing from yours truly here....
Silvia has had a big personal growth, too. She heeded PadJer's counsel to forget men, be by herself and enjoy life. She did, had a wonderful friendship with Tomas, and has grown quietly but a lot. She has learned that happiness is an inside job.
I really liked that break-up-of-sorts scene between Silvia and Tomas. Well written and well acted.
Think I was hallucinating last night when I thought 14 weeks. Must have gotten than into my head somehow because the doc said she's more than 12 weeks preggers. In any case, that gives us some idea of how much time has passed since Val and Lardo last did the backseat mambo.
You're right, Doris, but I smell them trying to redeem her so I don't think she'll come off that way. She did get this weird light in her eye when she and Uriel figured out it could be Lola.
As to the lack of follow-up on the dead body in the trunk, I'm betting they are still trying to pull DNA on the foetus and/or somehow identify the body. I doubt that Simoneta had ID in her pocket at the time of the murder.
Where is that gypsy fortune teller that used to be a stock character in novelas of the past? "Las cartas no mientan" was a stock line in those days.
Sigh again.
Doris - I forgot about awesome Silvia! Thanks! She and Tomas have demonstrated the kind of character growth I can totally get behind. (I don't know why I have less of a problem with Tomas's redemption than Mari's. I guess I have issues.)
Cris has indeed been yapping without much action this whole TN, but I'm glad Sev didn't seem to plant any seeds of doubt in his mind last night. Maybe all of the evidence against him has finally salted the ground for Cris?
I loved seeing Pru finally realizing and saying to Val all of the things Hum has been trying to show her for months: that her precious baby princess is a spoiled, selfish monster with zero compassion. When she told Juana that she couldn't care less if her mom drank herself to death because her parents are supposed to be helping her, not the other way around, even I was surprised at just how open she was about not caring.
Really, really wanting the Coffin-Table's cargo to be ID'd...
J in O
Javier, if not working for the police undercover, goes to squeal to the police on Sev. What would he squeal? I don't know, that he cleared a woman's things out of an apartment for Sev and . . .ok, I'm grasping at straws!
Tofie! You are SO right! She believed Mar, flipped Eman off and claimed the right to piss and moan about it for the rest of the show. SHE's the one who needs to do some heavy redeeming for me to want to see her with Eman again, if ever! She wins the prize for the character that took the biggest tumble for fun and likable to whiny and kick in the pants-worthy!
Ok, let me go do some other stuff. This is too much fun. See y'all later.
Thanks for filling out my theory, Vivi!
As for Pru--I still think a great ending for her is to loose everything: her status, her fashionably clothing, her ability to look down on everyone and become the worst of the worst, a drunk in rags living on the streets or reduce to the lowest of jobs to eek out a living. Then her maid can look down on her!
I think they are holding the Simonetta reveal as the final nail in the coffin on Sev to EVERYONE. But it is interesting that if he has to be taken out, his anger and last gasp of revenge will most likely be against Allie. That sets up for who saves the day. And you know what, I don't think it will be Cris. I just can't see the writers having him kill his father.
Daisynjay
I think that Cristobal will see Sev go down. If he gets arrested Cris will disown him to his face. If he falls from the waterfall or dies in some other way, Cris will witness it. That's happened in past novelas. The town will feel bad for Cris and Aldonza when they know the whole story.
As for Pru and Vile they deserve prison. That will be just as humiliating to them as being homeless.
I am so happy for Chris, giggle giggle happy!!!:-D:-D:-D:-D:-D
and poor Eman was left to fend for himself.
lousy parents. Hum needs to confess.
Lila, tofie, Vivi, yeah miss Stuck in High School is being suddenly painted as about to become St. Mari of SL and on her way to love ( good lord, why pick Pato???) and being an honest citizen. Blech! I do want to see heer grovel to her parents, Lola, Pato AND E-man. Anyone I left out? She needs to fess up to the lies, manipulations and antics like the money swap. I'm sure there will be long faces, but then big hugs of forgiveness because we don't have enough time for people to be rally pissed at her. Again, BLECH.
Interesting point UA, having Cris at least witness his father's take down. Honestly, if he isn't involved somehow, witnessing, being a party to trying to find him for answering to his crimes, something, than I say major fail. I know the truth will knock him for a loop as it is, but he's come up pretty well in this TN in not having had to feel the pain of his father ( few slaps) or any kind of horrors personally, while his bride that was, is to be, has had enough for a room full of people. That's a bit one sided to me in the scheme of things. He fell off a horse and had a few punches thrown with Ren and Lardo. That's it? Odd.
Daisynjay
Urban Anthropologist, does Sev know about Val shooting at Aldonza or is it only Cande who knows that?
Daisynjay, "Nava's paycheck relies on him," so he must be feeling pretty damn confident, because I'm sure he's not getting paid unless Sev wins.
David, "I wonder if the fact that Val had identified Cris as the father of her baby mitigated the HIPPA laws." I suppose it would, if she said he could be contacted, but if's just because he's the putative father then I think that guy just saw an ethics violation flash before his eyes.
doris, have fun with the nieta :)
Lila, I think that Ren and the cops are still keeping the "it looks more like a murder, but we have no evidence to pin it on anyone," news away from Aldonza, Em, and the Padre. Which, I suppose, is good because it keeps it away from Sev, so he can't cover any tracks he might have left that they won't have the brainpower to find until five minutes before the fin.
lol, tofie...he's a little yapper dog, but he barks in the wrong direction!
I agree they must be stumped about the dead woman in the coffin table--what else can they do with no missing persons report, no id, and no DNA to compare to. But they also seem to be focusing on Adelina's murder--though, not very hard. So what they heck do they do all day?
Is Juana even getting paid at this point? Who was in charge of that? 'Cause I don't see Pru being lucid enough to even know when payday is.
On the other hand, she doesn't live in a bubble. She reads. She watches TV. She went to school. She lived with Cris for several years and didn't take in any of his relative objectivity in looking at the world. She knows what she's doing is wrong, otherwise she would'nt have to hide it.
I'm really starting to wonder what they consider "evidence."
"or maybe he took an Uber."
"Pru is starting her day with a healthy meal consisting of vodka in orange juice and a few pills." This actress is so dear to my heart, and still so beautiful-looking that I can't quite loathe her. But I've enjoyed..and still enjoy how she's played her part.
"I'm a sad panda." That's the line that absolutely cracked me up. Me-- not a sad panda. Love Tomas...he's got great lines. Love Silvia. Smart and classy. But they don't belong together long-term. She's way too smart, educated and sophisticated for him. But he'll find other women--lots of 'em no doubt. Just like he did when he and Pru were at the motel.
Sev's humiliation was awesome. And again, both actors handled the scene with finesse. In spite of frustration with the story, I have thoroughly enjoyed the acting in this one.
As I did the great recap and all the comments. This sure is a lively patio!
Um . . watch telenovelas produced in Miami?
Started off the "morning" with your most excellent, fantastic, joyous-filled recap--even the death of the pillow was great theater.
Sev's pjs must have pockets and he always sleeps with a set of keys to his house in town. That house is right on a main street, so I can't quite see him hiding the keys in a flower pot. In any case, the thought of him sleeping with a set of keys to any house set me off.
Will be back later--after the 80 comments and counting.
Well, I would love to hang out here on the patio for awhile, but I am on my real patio trying to prepare my syllabi and materials for this semester which begins August 24. I just found out that I am teaching different classes than usually teach. This semester I am teaching an intermediate level reading class that I last taught a year ago..no problem there. However, I am also teaching a composition class which I only taught once 8 years ago in summer session. I need to do a lot of preparation for that one. Goodbye summer fun.
I will try tomtrake va break later from connectives, infinitives, gerunds, clauses, and passive voice verbs to check out the comments.
I was totally distracted by one thing last night, and missed a lot of the convo between E-man and Aldie, so thank you, Eli for filling in their chit-chat about the huerta and the animales.
It was when Aldie had her back to us and all I could see was that ridiculously long hair extension hanging down underneath her real hair and it was obvious where the real hair ended (from the front it looks like a normal length). When will tn execs ever learn that we don't need all that hair on a "hairoine." First of all, in this tn at any rate, loose hair like that is particularly dangerous on a farm around machinery---OH, pardon me, Aldonza doesn't actually work, and the place has no machinery, just the burro to pull the plow. But still, she could have battle braids or bouncy pony tails for work and still look amazing, no?
Susanlynn, I hope your prep work goes smoother than you anticipate and you have a little more fun time before break is over!
Did Flavia ever know the details of Adriano's involvement with Lardo's murder (ie, murder pillow talk). There has to be a way to get the info out, otherwise, as someone pointed out, why would they have kept Adriano alive in a coma all this time?
Also: I may be slow on the uptake, but weren't Aldonza and Cris all lovey-dovey after he "kidnapped" her? What happened to split them up again? Did I blink?
J in O
I don't think Flavia ever had any major details. Unless she knows something she doesn't realize she knows, you know? Like, something she doesn't remember or something Adriano said that she never realized would lead back to Sev.
JudyB--Here sits another sad panda, but the Tomas-Silvia pairing wasn't going to be long term. You pointed out some of the insurmountable obstacles for them, but at the same time, I'm afraid Tomas has been spoiled by a woman like Silvia and he won't really enjoy the poolside-bar stool pick-up games anymore. JMHO. The collar may be his best companion after this.
Susanlynn--As a refresher, do take time to rewatch AV and the prepositional positions Victoria and Arriaga vigorously engaged in, way back when (and never forgotten--they are still on my DVR).
I've got some reading to do!
Susanlynn - I'm glad you have classes to teach, but I feel for you! I hope you have a successful semester!
