Antes muerta que Lichita #25 Monday 10/26/12: I come up with an important acronym for our rotten galan

In Los Angeles, Roberto and Alicia did a lot of kissing and holding hands and sight-seeing, and they slept on the same bed (in all their clothes) before rushing off to meet the U.S. contact Jose Guadalupe (who is a real slob) and talk about how important family is to U.S. Latinos and that they are bicultural. I don't think those were very subtle observations.

Roberto says she's sexy. She's never slept with a man (she's invisible to them). He admits he hasn't had any action for a long time because his life has been difficult. He's thinking: yeah, I was in prison. She says: oh yes, your sick brother. He is embarrassed but doesn't come clean. I think I need an acronym for this because it happens so often. EBDCC. When it's time to go home she asks if they're going back to status quo ante and he says, basically, yes. They have to be very discreet. "Is it because of Luciana?" "I feel nothing for her. In fact I can't stand her, if you see me with her it's because she is a very hard woman."

Elsa asks Magos to help with her new work. Magos: "I'll think about it. But I need to go out and get some air now. And would you lend me some money?" "I don't have any, imagine." Up comes little Ximena and lends money to her mother! OMG.

Magos meets with some skeez who wants her to fence stuff for him. It turns out later he has "chuladas" (wordreference says that's "coarse things") aka real artificial fur products and all kind of bootleg knockoff purses. "You sell them for me. With your first profits, you pay me for getting you out of jail. After that you keep the rest of the money."

Gumaro says he's been offered a job repairing condos and offices for some government agency.

Elsa shows Lichita a bunch of weird looking clothes she suggests Lichita buy on credit "to invest in upgrading your image."

Roberto gets turned down for the apartment loan due to his criminal record.

At Ikonika Luciana is screaming about being poisoned. She accuses Elsa and/or Lichita - the latter calmly points out it was Chuchette who finished making Luciana's salad that fateful day, "She said she knew just how you liked it!" Chuchette is mortified. "Have a spoonful of your own chocolate," Lichita tells us.

Luciana goes to Sandra to get Elsa fired and Elsa comes in just then. "You wanted to see me?" she asks Sandra. Luciana thinks it's because Sandra wants to fire Elsa. "Don't be an idiot, Luciana. Elsa, I loved that tea you brought me. [That tea had actually made Sandra smile sort of tenderly.] And forget about being on probation, you are permanent now!"

Then Luciana goes to yell at Roberto about the trip to L.A. "I didn't call because my cellphone ran out of battery." My son Ezra has used this bogus excuse on me hundreds of times.

Then somebody comes in asking for travel vouchers for two, so Luciana finds out Alicia went with him, and they have a big laugh together about what a pathetic nerd Alicia is. (Matadita - crummy little loser.) EBDCC. Roberto counsels her not to keep beating on Lichita - "it will spoil the game."

Augusto wants to propose some candidate in front of some advisory board. It needs to be somebody perfect, somebody, in fact, identical to himself. In a luxury hotel somewhere, Chuchette is lounging on his bed waiting for him.

Nestor overhears Alicia telling Braulio that she and Roberto are an item. He runs off and tells Luciana, who tells him it's a big game. She, Chuchette and Nestor sneak into the bushes and take cellphone pictures of Alicia puckering up to Roberto which they circulate through the office.

Alicia comes to Roberto's office and happily announces, "Your aunt Venus is here to see you." Here is one of my favorite moments from this episode.

Roberto embraces Venus, whispering, "I'll explain later." EBDCC.

Elsa comes in and invites Roberto, his brother, and his frosty aunt Venus to come to a meal. "And if your brother needs a special diet due to his infirmities, no problem." When Alicia and Elsa leave, Venus frosts him bad about his lies and says he has five months to come clean to everybody about his criminal record and get his finances squared away.

Sandra tells everybody they've landed the mattress campaign and Duarte is getting it. Duarte gets called to Augusto's office where he's told to sit down but there are no chairs so he sits on the floor and fawns over Augusto while Augusto practically steps on his hands. Roberto points out that earlier Augusto said everybody has to make it on their own merit, but now, nepotism. Augusto responds, "It's a family business and only the family will rise, and your boldness is inching towards stupidity."

Luciana complacently tells Roberto she can influence her uncle and help Roberto win the big promotion as long as he takes care of "all this" meaning her fine cuerpazo.

Gumaro and Robert are jawing when Alicia calls, surprise! Roberto had forgotten about the family meal, but it's all ready. No time to get the wheelchair! So hahah Roberto carries Gumaro in his arms! He drops him.

At the Gutierrez home, Nacho asks "what are your intentions with my daughter?" Roberto bullshits him about taking time to get to know each other until Nacho falls asleep. At the table Ximena asks, does Gumaro work at all? "Or is it like our house with Alicia working her ass off and my mother sitting around watching telenovelas?" [Did you notice there was one of the famous Stairways of Death in the novela Mags was watching?]

There's a flashback of Luciana's engagement to a really old duke who gives her a giant sapphire engagement ring that's been in his family for centuries or whatever. We also see her parents fawning over the duke.

Gumaro finds, and gives to Roberto, the picture of Mateo that Beto took with him to jail. He takes it to work, which is a mistake, because nosy Luciana finds it, turns it over, and asks wonderingly, "Mateo? Who is this little snotnose?"

I think Sandra is great.

Thanks for your recap, Jane.
Univision cut off some scenes, made one from two Mexico's episodes.

Two episodes? No wonder I had to take six pages of notes!

Thanks so much Jane.

I loved the scenes of Alicia and Rob in L.A. being romantic. And that scene with "Aunty" Venus cracked me up. I really liked seeing Sandra thaw in the presence of Elsa's warmth. That was such a nice scene.

Shocker- Chechette IS Augusto's lover! Wow. They hid that well. I hope Sandra finds out soon, and dumps him. And gets back with Elias...who was in the opening credits. We have opening credits and a theme song now. And those opening credits give away WAY too much about upcoming plot developments.

Love the acronym for Rob's reaction to being stuck in his lie. He should have come clean with Lichita in L.A.

This was two episodes? I had that suspicion because it felt a bit choppy. The Augusto scenes in particular seemed like we were missing some info. Particularly the scene when he was in a totally different CEO office at a different company. I wonder what we missed? I really hope they don't start doing it regularly with this show. I'm enjoying it too much.

Thank you, Jane. I missed some of this last night. Great recap. I love the EBDCC. Just one of those conventions that drive the viewers crazy.

Pretty pathetic that Magos took the money from her own daughter. Now she is going to sell merchandise that "fell off a truck"? Stupid beyond being terminally lazy. How long before she is arrested again?

Seemed that Sandra was happy to have Elsa and her tea around as well as loving rubbing the fact that she was hiring Elsa in Luciana's face. No justice for Luciana's supposed poisoning!!! So funny!!!

At least Roberto told Gumaro to go rent a nice apartment now that he was turned down for a mortgage.

So, Chuchette and Augusto have something going on? I like that twist. Augusto is turning out to be one of the more interesting characters and now Chuchette.

From what I saw it was another fun one. How do we know it was 2 episodes?

This is great Jane and thank you. There was so much herky jerky in the show it was hard to keep up.

"Up comes little Ximena and lends money to her mother" errrrrrr and now to be selling fake handbags

"phone ran out of battery." My son Ezra has used this bogus excuse on me hundreds of times"

I got whiplash from all the bouncing around last night, what a shame.

Alicia snoring was so funny and puckering on the bench outside with Roberto cute.

Makes me mad as Roberto neutralizes the leverage Luciana has on him with his successes (on Alicia back) she finds the photo and will know Roberto has a son before Alicia.

Jane, I so enjoy how you present several facts, succinctly yet thoughtfully in rapid succession: "At the table Ximena asks, does Gumaro work at all? "Or is it like our house with Alicia working her ass off and my mother sitting around watching telenovelas?" [Did you notice there was one of the famous Stairways of Death in the novela Mags was watching?]"

Fantastic recap!

Augusto is repulsive and reprehensive to me but at least he was honest in: "It's a family business and only the family will rise". Color me stunned that he has Chuchette on the side. As a result of her being almost nice to Elsa, I am starting to thaw a bit on Sandra.

Venus may be stern but she has a lot of patience and think she is really looking out for Mateo's interests and in fairness, she is giving Roberto many chances.

I love the Roberto/Lichita kisses - some of the best I've seen in years. Sweet with a tang of lust.

So disappointed Luciana found the picture! Still, I'm not going to let that dampen my spirits...I still love this.

Jane, thank you!

Diana

Well we know by telenovela rules that our protagonists must be tortured almost to the bitter end. I only remember one example of the leading lady and man getting together and facing adversity together for many weeks.

Venus is by the book (and glad of it) but even Roberto acknowledged what she makes him do he learns from and better for it. She knows him better than Alicia sadly.

Think I would watch 30 minutes of almost kisses, kisses and hand holding between Alicia and Roberto but the sinking feeling, knowing Alicia is headed for hurt bittersweet.

Jane was the show you noted Pasion?

Loved the show and have been following the marvelous Susana Gonzales ever since.

Diana

tofie, I'm keeping my blinders on and trying to enjoy the sweetness while it lasts.

While Alicia will be upset with Roberto's lies about Gumaro, she will be very hurt about Mateo. Here's hoping her Indomitable spirit will help her through.

Truths about Rob that Alicia needs to know:

He has a son, who is in an orphanage, and is the real reason he wants to get ahead at Iconika.
Gumaro is his hermano de alma (not de sangre) and is not paralyzed.
He has been in jail the last five years (but was framed for the crime).
He had no prior experience in advertising and conned his way into Iconika (this would explain to her why he stole her Mas idea).

I'm glad that now after the Mas debacle, Rob has been using his own ideas for the campaigns he's in charge of. Even though Alicia is his assistant and shares her ideas, they complement Rob's ideas, and he gives her credit. They also seem to have a great time working with each other and bouncing ideas off each other.

I do love how Alicia keeps reminding Rob of the unfairness of her working there 8 years and getting nothing, and him waltzing in and getting major promotions. I agree with her, to a certain point. If she wants to be seen as a leader, she needs to stop acting like a sheep. She needs to start acting like a leader-- stand up straight, look people in the eye, say what she wants and means with conviction, stand up for herself. It won't be easy. But there would hardly be any company in the world that would look at the way Alicia carries herself and say, yes, this person should LEAD a team.

I cannot wait to find out more about:

Augusto: what other "business" is he in? How many women does he have on the line?

What exactly happened in with Luciana and the Duke.

These both have very funny possibilities.

Jarifa, I am smiling thinking the Duke wasn't that bad (he was in La Verdad Occulta one of my faves), hence my soft spot.

I feel Luciana absconded with the ring (and some other things perhaps?) :)

Now justice might be served by Luciana spending the rest of her life with the Duke. That is after he loses his fortune and they are penniless (sorry Duke!).

No wonder Auggie is always so cranky. Wonder when he gets his sleep??

I'm starting to think Sandra may deserve more. Not so sure about Bea. Will have to see how this plays out.

Diana

Wonderful recap!

I can't believe we have opening credits and geezus they showed a lot of story/spoilers to come! Elias was in the credits so I guess he will reappear. Are we allowed to talk about the opening credits because I couldn't believe what I was seeing!

I can't believe Chuchette with her big mouth has kept her affair a secret. She doesn't seem to do anything so now I know why she hasn't been let go.

Magos is so low.

Carvivlie- I have never seen opening credits that gave away so many surprises before. Usually, if major changes happen, they'll update the opening credits later. Elias, Magos, Rob and Luci, Lichita and some guy, Lichita and a new look-- all stuff that seems major. Good grief. I'm sure there's more we'll catch with a 2nd viewing of the credits too.

Vivi, it looked like Alicia was marrying that new guy! I wonder how far down the road some of these things are. Definitely will be scrutinizing tonight!

The new credits took me by surprise and went too quickly for me - I did catch the new hairstyle (loved) and new guy, but not much else.

Aren't there times these scenes actually don't occur? I can think of other TNs that had scenes that never materialized.

Diana

If anyone else is as curious about the cool buildings that stand in for Iconika's office space as I was: It's Garden Santa Fe, an underground shopping and financial center that was built a few years ago and uses green technology- solar panels, reclaimed rain water, and a green roof (the park above ground). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIeG1c3P2Zo

"The multi-use Parque Centro buries 65,000 square feet of shopping and entertainment facilities and three levels of parking space without impacting the city's green lung above ground. Nor are shoppers plunged into cold darkness thanks to deep, glazed conical skylights that provide tons of natural light and warmth.

The sprawling underground mall features a bevy of shops and entertainment areas, as well as enough parking to tuck away 1600 cars. Aboveground revelers will be oblivious to all this as they enjoy Santa Fe's central park complete with water features, trees, a jogging track, grass and a performance area.

Far from a dungeon, large, glazed conical lights will funnel light into the mall without creating excess solar gain. The green-roof (the park) will insulate the building and reduce the need to air-condition the facility. Natural ventilation will ensure superior air quality and temperature, which combined with on-site solar electric facilities create one of Mexico's most sustainable buildings."

Thanks, Jane. So glad you inserted a screenshot of your favorite moment. If looks could kill, Venus would’ve made Roberto go splat! “EBDCC” is right on time – things don’t look good for Roberto getting out of EBDCC territory any time soon.

ITA never seen the credits give so much away, especially Alicia’s eventual new look. But it seems she keeps the heavy eyebrows.

Interesting that Luciana messed up her good thing with the duke and all his riches. Would she really have blown it by absconding with that ring?

Boohoo, no Daphne last night.

So Chuchette is boinking Augusto. I guess she thinks he’s just a two-timer, with his wife. And not a three-timer with her, his wife, and Sandra.

Yay, the credits show Elias so I guess he’s coming back.

So we got two episodes crammed into one? Hope this isn’t a trend.

Do we know how many episodes this show is going to have? Are the ratings bad in Mexico so they are shortening it up for us?

Great recap, Jane! Your EBDCC acrynom is a handy invention and will get lots of use. Lots of game playing here to keep us interested.

Thanks for your recap Jane! It took longer than I would care to admit to figure out what EBDCC meant....guess it is just one of those days. Ugh dont tell me there are cutting and pasting episodes already....I will likely need help on filling in what they plastered together on Thursday if this continues. I don't have a TV so I watch the original online.

Thanks so much Jane for helping us get up to par on last nights show.

Wow! Ximena is giving Magos money. What's with that? I don't think that I have ever seen that before. I mean, maybe when the children are grown but little Ximena??? OMG
Jane is right.

I loved the little clips of Roberto and Lichita having fun in LA.

So Agusto has three women. How about an OMG for that one? He must keep a hidden stash of Viagra readily available. Maybe that's why he got shot. Maybe there was a fourth.

Thanks Vivi for the kool interesting information Vivi.

I'm going to relook at the intro---I always love intros anyway.

must see tv
the gringo

Sara informs we that we are only 4 weeks behind Mexico, so they can't cut that much before we are in line with them. She also informs me that ratings have started to pick up in Mexico. Could be that Uni is trying to rush us to the part of the story where it picked up ratings in Mexico, or just wants us to end at the same time Mexico does. Apparently, Uni also rushed showing us the opening credits, which only very recently started being shown in Mexico.

I don't want to miss one minute of this show, damn Univision! Damn, damn, dammit
