Familiarize Yourself with the Background of "The Hotel of Secrets" - Starts 1/25/16

It’s 1905 and an unexpected encounter in a train will change the lives of Isabel Alarcon and Julio Olmedo.  They sit together at the same table and realize that neither of the two of them belongs to the places from which they come.

Protected by anonymity and the brevity of the train trip, they speak of their dreams and desires.  Julio jumps off the train without saying good-bye, thinking that he’ll never again meet up with this fantastic being that Fate lent to him for a few hours.

Juliio arrives at The Grand Hotel in order to look for his sister, Cristina.  However, he receives a nasty surprise: that his sister was fired and nobody has had any idea of her whereabouts for a month now.  From this moment a search will begin that will take him along unimagined pathways; he will unearth each hidden mystery at the majestic hotel; and he will begin a stormy and passionate romance with Isabel.

Isabel and Julio will have to traverse a river of blood not only to find out the truth about Cristina, but to succeed in freeing themselves from the trials and tribulations that have marked their lives.

I will be happy to recap any night needed, but I am not able to head the team this time. Let Kat or Melinama know if you want to recap for this tn. Anybody on the recapping team who wishes to continue with the new tn needs to also notify Kat or Melinama at caray.

Wow, Jardinera, thank you! That was gorgeous!

P.S., I will say that after watching the original Spanish series of "Gran Hotel" it is a fabulous whodunnit and love story with lots of wonderful surprises and twists and turns. Best of all it is a novela de época.

Thanks for posting this, Jardinera. I'm looking forward to this tn. I think I will commit to recapping this. We still have a month to go before this starts (no idea what Uni will do with the time slot in the meantime since YNCELH ends way before that), so there's still time to sort out recapping days and team captain.

If you're "in" just make sure you send me an email at some point, so I don't lose track! 5ftLatina [at] gmail.com

The current Yo No Creo team gets dibs, but if others are interested, I'll keep you on a wait list until I've heard from all the current team members.

I am willing to recap this show on Fridays, preferably every other Friday, if we can get another recapper to share it. But if we can't, I can do the Friday episodes if no one on the current recapping team for YNCELH already wants to.

Vivi, maybe you can be the team leader?

Cathyx- Sure. Happy to take on team captain. So glad you want to recap this one!

Jardinera, Cathyx, me...anyone else intersted in recapping Hotel de los Secretos? Urban, Hellashelle, JdesdeNYC? Anyone else?

That sounds like a job for Agatha Christie, but since I can't see it in advance and I often have problems with Uvideos I'll have to be on standby. I saw the trailers and it looks like it will be really good.

A novela de epocha...oh yeah. Thanks for the synopsis, Jardinera.

I checked this new show out on YouTube...so many familiar faces. I loved Ana Brenda in the beautiful ,Lacey, ivorycolored gown. And..I think mi telenovio Marcelo C. Is in it. I wonder if he will play a good guy or a bad guy. Either way......Wheeeeeee #verragiddy

Susanlynn- I think what you might have seen are the audition tapes for this. Neither Ana Brenda nor Marcelo got parts in it. In fact, the cast seems to be filled with many telenovela fresh faces, including the female protagonist who is a Mexican movie star, but not an actress who normally does television.

VIVI...Wait?...What??? No Marcelo? Is there anyone that I would recognize in it? ..Susanlynn, stopping by while preparing Christmas dinner for the family

Susanlynn- Daniela Romo and Diana Bracho are in it. Here's the photo gallery of some of the main characters:

http://uvideos.com/novelas/el-hotel-de-los-secretos/personajes

Vivi--I recognized the "hotel" as the clinic where Liliana from MEPS and Ciro Pallafox were interned. I'm happy to see fresh faces, but I'm happy to see Helena Rojo again.

I'm definitely going to watch this one--Downton Abbey in Spanish, what more could we ask for?

I looked over the cast and the only person in this one who I have seen before is Daniela Romo.

I meant Daniela Romo. She was a waste in La Tempestad and I disliked TdA, her, and everyone else in it (except WL and the kayak).

I think Helena Rojo is in a different Proximas.

OT..Anita...Starz is doing an Outlander marathon tomorrow (Dec 24) from 11.30am to 8pm

OT..Susanlynn:-( Thank you for mentioning it. Unfortunately I do not get Starz. Fortunately I did get both volumes of the DVD. I guiltily admit to having watched it all twice and my favorite parts several more (can you guess which...). Finally picked up Drums of Autumn again after a short hiatus. Brianna made it to Lallybroch.

Erick Elias is supposed to be in it, he is a cutie

OT..Anita....I know exactly which parts were your favorites.... The same as mine. #hotscot

So what is on the slate for the long month between TNs at 10:00pm?

The story sounds very interesting. I can't commit to recapping but I will try to watch,as I love the premise and the era of the story.

Happy Holidays everyone! Hope you've had a wonderful Christmas!

-- 5ft Latina, Vivi and Cathyx: I would love a recapping spot if you'd be kind enough to grant me one; ideally alternating with Cathyx on a Friday.
Because I rely on watching shows online and it seems that "El Hotel de Los Secretos" is being shown simultaneously in the US and Mexico, I don't have the advantage of watching the Mexico broadcast to get a head-start on episode recaps. That is why I would prefer to get a Friday recapping spot, just to have a little wriggle room and to get over first time recapping jitters.
Anyhoo, please consider me for the waiting list if a spot opens up.
And Vivi as team captain gets my vote! She has been so kind and encouraged me to try recapping over on the PyP Patio, she'll be the perfect Caray Caray! veteran to hold my hand through this.

-- Susanlynn: A Blythe Yule and a Guid Hogmanay to ya, bonnie lass! :)
If you check out the promos of this mystery novela de epoca you'll see some familiar faces but more importantly it looks like the acting will be delectable. There are some heavy hitters in this baby and the good quality writing and directing will give them space to flex their thespian muscles. I for one I'm more excited about the acting/story/production value than the eye candy in this one.

I would love to share Fridays with you Nandicta. I'm excited about this TN being shown simultaneously with Mexico. There won't be any chance of spoilers and I won't ever need to say "I haven't watched ahead, so this is only a prediction".

-- Cathyx: ¡Trato hecho! I hope there'll be a free Friday recapping spot for us to share (I'll write 5ft Latina an email about this and hopefully we get our wish).
I too like that the temptation to look ahead is not an option here. I'm so excited about this TN I refrained from reading the character presentations or watching the trailer of its Spanish version! I even resisted reading Jardinera's presentation, as much as I love her writing style (Thanks Jardinera btw!). I want to go into this with a clean slate to allow myself to be taken off guard!
Looking forward to hanging out in the EHDLS Patio! :)

Nandicta! Awesome! Welcome the team!

Nandicta- Click on my profile and email me, porfis.

Three days covered. We need at least two more committed recappers to cover two days.

UA, could you maybe do a bullet point recap on Mondays?

My star boyfriend Carlos Rivera is in this. His first telenovela gig! Here's to hope that he's not bad in it because it would break my heart haha.

Jarocha

Jarocha, what does he do if he's not an actor?

He is a singer and he has done musical theater in Mexico and Spain. He is currently playing Simba in the Mexican version of The Lion King. He played that role in Spain and now they started the production in Mexico too, Televisa decided to contract him then and I think they have wanted to use his image for a while so they finally hired him for a telenovela.

Jarocha

I think I'm going to watch this one. I miss the chats here, and I LOVED the Spanish original of this show. It's SO GOOD. I wonder how closely this will follow the same story.

-gasp- Another period novela at last? I haven't watched anything since...good lord, I can't even remember what the last one was; was it the rebroadcast of Alborada? So there's been nothing for me to join in on, but I've kept checking in from time to time just in case, and now I finally have something to be excited about again!

...and then just before I submit comment, the crushing realization that I don't think I actually get any of the Spanish-language channels anymore now that I've moved. Among many, many other things. The horse racing networks are turning out not to be worth what I gave up for Dish. >_<

(Back in the day, I was Mad Marley Grey. And then I got a new account!)
