Antes Muerta Que Lichita #59 Tuesday 12/15/15

At the hospital with Beto, Alicia gives them Luci's number and tells them to call her instead.

Luciana gets the call but is relatively unconcerned and wishes people would stop telling her she should be more concerned.

Sandra and Augusto are snuggling in bed. She reminds him that he cancelled their last romantic vacation, and he groans "what's the point of having lovers if they just complain like my wife?"

Later, with his other lover Chuchette: She's showing off her new lingerie, but he would rather hear gossip. But she starts talking about how gentlemanly his brother (Rafael) is. What a Toledo y Mondragón! Augusto is pissed and sits on her while he reminds her that Rafael is broke and he's a millionaire. He then reminds her that her role is simply to entertain him.

Lichita watches a stream of gossiping news-casters on TV and worries that it'll make it hard to get a new job. There's a montage of her failing at interviews because of all the gossip rags. She winds up going to Madeleine, Ikonica's top competitor. They're more receptive, probably because they want to steal clients and stick it to their rival. The boss wants her to bring all her clients with her. It's funny that earlier, when she was going to marry Alex, she did it because her career was "all that mattered," but now ethics are a big concern for her. She discovers that all agencies have been ordered by the API president not to hire her. She still refuses.

Sandra seems to have a fever.

Luci takes advantage of a confused nurse to convince Beto that she was there by his side all night.

Magos has opened a credit card (and promptly maxed it out). Ximena points out that that was a terrible idea and the credit card served only to put her in debt. The family finds out almost immediately. She opened the account with a fake email address, and therefore doesn't even know how much she owes. They all yell at her and Ximena chimes in with a "told you so!"

Some office folk are sitting around gossiping about Alex being gay. Braulio chides them for homophobia: "epic fail, guys."

Brisa's getting sick of Braulio's little crush on Chuchette.

Rafael is concerned about Dafne, he notices that everyone makes fun of her and he wants to help.

Luciana, who supposedly spent the whole night by Beto's side, swiftly tires of pretending to be sweet and supportive. He says he's thirsty, and she rolls her eyes and says "ok." She sighs and gets him a glass but yells at him to not drink so much (if he drinks a lot he'll have to pee, and she doesn't want to help him with that).

Augusto shows up in the hospital. He wants to swap Beto for Alex as the new API candidate. Beto wants some time to think about it when he feels better, but Luci says he's just delirious and if he was in his right mind he would accept immediately.

Alicia's whole family is worrying about money, and saying how good it is that at least they have the café as a source of income, when they notice a competing café (some kind of chain business, says Alicia) opening across the street! Nacho uses a phrase that I can't even guess at understanding. He says that if the competition gets up in their face they'll "tronar como chinampinas." Can anyone help me there?

Dafne apologizes to some girls for bullying them, they're delighted, and they give her huge hugs (maybe the least realistic thing I've seen so far on this show, and that includes Chuchette's figure), then goes back to Rafael (it was his idea). He tells her he's proud of her and gives her a hug, and she's so shocked that someone in her family would appreciate her that her eyes bug out a bit.
Dafne perplexed and caught off-guard by a supportive family member
Beto wants to see the selfie Luci took in the hospital with Augusto! I think he just knows that she wouldn't go anywhere without taking a selfie.

Then we get a blatant product placement/ad for payless shoes. Wow, Chuchette, those shoes are incredible and so cheap! I will definitely go buy some! And they will make perfect December gifts for our families! Maybe the most flagrant ad I've seen in a novela to date. Then Chuchette turns to the camera and gives a direct in-character ad! She literally says "antes muerta que lucir unos zapatos aburridos para las fiestas..." better dead than to wear boring shoes to parties.
Weird
Ximena wants to give her college fund back to Alicia to help out. Alicia refuses.

I love how the secretaries are now using the Univision app for the show that they're in! As braulio might say, muy meta.

Beto has now been banned from visiting Mateo. There's a stern lady with some cops blocking him and Mateo.

Alicia defies the ban and comes to confront Augusto at Ikonica. She's got some dirt on him and it's time for blackmail! If he doesn't give her back her job as general creative director, she'll tell everyone that Augusto knew his son was gay and intentionally orchestrated the marriage to get his son elected to the API. She also discovered some more dirt back when she worked there. In the accounts books there were whole campaigns made for brands that didn't exist!!! She insinuates that there may have been some tax evasion and the authorities would be interested. She goes on to threaten to tell his wife about the 10-year (wow) affair with Sandra.

Thank you, Ezra. I loved your screenshots! On the road again so I am on my phone. Lots of luck!

I don't think that Sandra had a fever I think she was having a heat flash. That is just my guess but that's what it seemed like to me.

I laughed at:

Augusto sitting on Chuchette
Luciana so excited about gettingRoberto into bed.
The neighborhood ladies coming over to get their wedding gifts 'cause there was no wedding.

I did not laugh at :

Magos and the credit card.
Roberto thinking he could just barge inand see Mateo after what he pulled.

Thanks, Ezra!

I'm so glad Rafael has taken Dafne under his wing, and started by getting her on the right track at school. I think those girls hugged her because they were so darned happy to get control of their social media accounts back, which Dafne had hacked into.

Magos, Magos, Magos. *sigh* What in the world did she buy up with that credit card?

I'm betting Agusto was behind People's Cafe (same one at Iconika) opening up in Alicia's hood. They even mentioned that People's Cafe doesn't usually open in poor hoods like theirs.

Thanks for the recap!

Jarifa, I too thought that Sandra may be getting hot flashes.

Vivi, that would suck if Augie is behind People's cafe. How he can blame her I just don't understand?! She said "I do".

Magos hasn't changed one bit.

Couldn't believe all of the dirt Alicia was flinging at Augie. But knowing him, and his pride and big ego, he won't budge. Hope it comes back to bite him in the arse!!!

I fear if Rob becomes API Prez all of Augie's illegal dealings will be blamed on him. I think that is why Augie is so concerned about controlling that position. One, to hide his dirty work, and two, with Rob in place, someone he can throw under the bus.

Thanks one more time Ezra---You caught the perfect eyes shot of Dafne.

Yes it does look like Roberto is being set up but he did marry Luciana. You would think that Augie would give Roberto points for that. Right? Maybe Augie doesn't believe in giving points to anyone.

Yes for sure Augie is behind the new coffee shop but why???

Wasn't there an outraged client last night that didn't like Luciana's idea for a new campaign? I CAN'T WAIT for a client revolt. I sure want to see that but I must ask---how did Iconika become a big company before Alicia was given some creative control?

Roberto kidnaps Mateo and now he thinks that he can just waltz back in. Que?

I hope that Alicia comes down hard on Mr. Big Agusto.

must see tv
the gringo

Gringo- "how did Iconika become a big company before Alicia was given some creative control?" They had Elias, and he refuses to take the job back.

Nice one, Ez!

I loved it when Luciana told the client the product was crap and he became outraged. Sandra just shook her head and collapsed into her hands. She deserves all of what Luci has to offer.

I thought Alicia not bringing her clients to Madelaine was a mistake. She earned those clients and they want to work with her. I don't see it as being traitorous for her to take them to her next company, especially when she was fired and not running somewhere else for more money.

Thank you Ezra and really appreciate it

Carvivlie I agree Alicia should take them with her to Madelaine or leave open the possibility the clients would follow once their contracts expired. The clients will find out and want to know. A press release and they would be calling

I can't thank the recappers enough for their coverage of what has been a very entertaining series of episodes in this novela---one I find to be among the best ever. I'm behind in sending my praise because these days I'm often called to help care for a grand child who has been quite ill, off and on. So please excuse if this is a bit out of sequence or inappropriately late but I hope it still manages to make some sense.

Marta's description of the wedding and all its aftermath in episode 57 was just amazing. As was that wedding and in particular, the reception! I have never laughed out loud so much at a telenovela wedding reception. It definitely went against all the stereotypes of a telenovela wedding reception....many of which can be so syrupy. This set of circumstances begged for something totally different and succeeded completely. What a hoot!!! And EXACTLY what the awful Lucinda deserved...to the nth- degree.

A Marta highighed: "Shushette urges them to dance and try to liven up the party, otherwise it will look more like a funeral! As SHushette drags Rafael away, Valeria notes ‘ay no, no, no! there’s no one here!’"

Jane's headine for the next installment was perfect:" Having pneumonia is better than having a honeymoon." And so many observations, like "whatever happens to Lichita, she is not destroyed, " and that despite some pretty awful experiences with the rotten people at Iconika.

In this episode, Ezra's recap helped clarify a lot for me. I didn't realize Luchita/ Alicia's threats included disclosure about possible shady dealings including tax evasion!

So now we're left wondering about a LOT.

For starters, I think Alex certainly owes Alicia a debt of gratitude and am wondering if he will be able to play a role in bailing her out of the blow to her career! I still adore Roberto despite his endless string of mistakes and mishaps...but can't fathom how he dumps that truly awful wife of his. Getting a church wedding annulled in Latin America is still tough! And I don't see them killing off Luciana!

It is beyond me how his dear son can still be kept away from him and confined to an orphanage where that sicko couple keeps having access but now Roberto doesn't. Are Mexico's adoption laws so strict that this scenario is remotely feasible? The guy obviously is devoted to his son and has a means of support. His time in prison has been overcome by career succeess and he wasn't even at fault in the first place. And the prospective adoptive mother is hardly fit! Roberto needs a better lawyer!!! As for Alicia, I feel queasy about her attempt to more or less blackmail Don Augusto as he's one nasty fellow. But am keeping my fingers crossed it works out somehow. Would love to see her walk away with all her clients, set up a competitive firm, and put Augusto, Sandra, Shuette, et al, out on the streets.

The thing about this storyline so far is that there's something of a balance kept between bad things happening to Alicia/Lichita and good things happening to her. Hope it doesn't all now fall off a cliff completely for Team Alicia, or Team Roberto because cheering for them to prevail here and there---and seeing that they do from time to time--- keeps me tuned in.

I continue really love this cast and the way the program is being produced.

And again, thanks so much wonderful recappers because without you, I miss a lot of a really good novela.

Gringo, for Augusto (who is just a very mean person ), ruining Alicia's parents' livelihood would be just one more way to hurt Alicia; sort of like turning the knife. Just firing her is not enough for him. Like Luciana, he would like to destroy her.

Carvivlie: Heat/hot flash: the actress playing Sandra did a great job representing that condition. Not that I would know anything about that. Too funny.

Roberto should run away with Magos and they could collectively and exclusively mess up their lives together.

Dona Felipe, I could agree with you about Roberto until he showed he could not play by the rules when he stole Mateo from the orphanage. Bad move on his part. He did not show good decision making. Then he shows up at the orphanage eating to strong arm his way in again? As far as the creepy couple, after the judge saw how unbalanced and out of touch with reality Marta was at the first hearing, he should have removed them as players in any sort of custody decision. She is too mentally ill.

"wanting to strong arm" not "eating to strong arm". The old iPad is being uncooperative which could make for a long night tonight. :)

Thanks, Ezra. Fun recap.

Count me disappointed that Alicia didn't accept the rival company's offer. She needs to stick it to Iconika, and that would've been nobler than blackmailing Augusto about his 10-year affair.
