Vino El Amor - #104 Thursday 3/30/17 **FULL RECAP** Vino el loneliness and regret.
Luciana quickly lets Adolfo know she's not responsible for Erika's lung issues. Then what happened? Adolfo demands answers from Miguel who explains that everything was fine between them. The issue was the construction permit fine they were issued. Erika took it upon herself to go around the vineyard to check on things. Adolfo is not happy that she was doing Smug's job. She can't be doing hard labor and furthermore she shouldn't be doing Smug's job. He warns him that if something happens to his daughter Smuguel will pay dearly for it. Smug pushes back that Adolfo should know his daughter, she wanted to do it and she looked fine. Well clearly she wasn't! Luciana tells them to knock it off and focus on Erika, she's with the paramedics and is going to be fine. Adolfo turns his wrath on Luciana and tells her that it's her fault and she needs to fix the water problem with her boss, because he's tired of their problems becoming his problems. Hallelu-YER! Pass the offering plate for brother Adolfo ya'll.

I thought Juan wanted Carito back but no, he didn't seem happy and I couldn't follow the dialog as to exactly why.
I still have no clue as to exactly what is wrong with Erica but I am sure Delilah will cover this and much more in her recap.
A few observations. Enjoying Sonia's increasingly not so subtle eye rolls as she navigates Graciela's and Lili's imperious demands. She sets a mean snack table. I was salivating at all the goodies as I continued to (resentfully) chomp on my celery :)
I think Miguel (in effect) severed his relationship with Luci so as to not cause any further friction with Adolfo and Erica. And while I didn't believe Luci is actually pining away for David as it appeared last night, my heart did go out to her.
And of course Brian darkened our screens with more Linda Blair head spinning and spewing.
Looks like Fer did not test well.
Delilah, really looking forward to reading your summary!
Diana
As for Carito's return...AIUI Juan was just fine with her staying the hell out of Sonoma and away from him so she can't tie him to migrant trafficking, but with her back--and his not being terribly bothered with the idea of murder, i.e. El Coyote--all I could think was "Her deathwatch starts...now."
Appreciate your reminding me about the book Lili must surely know by heart by now. I keep waiting for her to break out the accent but I guess this will just be an ongoing plot tease.
Diana
And this all flew under the radar and both permit activities/non-activities went right on by David while he was having his shirts altered to fit like scuba gear and waxing his chest. OK. I did see that pig flying around the other day.
Diana the reason NoJuan was unhappy was that he does not want Carito in his Luuurve nest but needs her at Davids. But he had been adamant to Perla to get her back any way she had to.
7
I don't think she has any intention of doing that and seems woefully unaware of how dangerous her situation is.
Diana
This week I'm pretty sure Juan said he wanted them to blame Carito and Mark for the illegals thing. He wants her back to complete the framing he's already started by siccing Gut on Mark and now that Carito is here, he plans to add her to the mix. But agree, he doesn't want her in their funky love shack or to be around and thus find out fully what dirt they (he) is up to.
Hope Luci got the message and will stay out of SB though Erika and Miguel are getting sickening!
Marta, Gut and Lil story line is just effin' annoying. When Marta barged into Lilian's room to tell her to call off her dog, the next sentence Marta uttered woulda been between her black clunkers that would be pointing skyward! The nerve! And to tell her she'd better do a better job in bed with him so he'll forget her! WHO SAYS SHIT LIKE THAT!!! AND, she told Gut to get a good look at her face cause that's the last time he'd see it and yet she made a point to smug mug him as she held on to Ramon's arm as the HAPPENED to walk past the bench where he was sitting. Damn! A well placed meteorite or sinkhole could've taken them out right then. Sorry, Ramon would have to be collateral damage! Tired of this lame-assed quadrangle!
And Ferbrat back on the war path! David. Why do you make empty threats to the little twerp when she, Lil and Gracie have your ass whipped! Sheesh!
And in retrospect Miguel sadly telling Luciana to never come back to Vinedo de Competencia to button up his relationship with Erika (who of course was in full makeup in her giant four-poster bed, but girlfriend looked great) made a certain sense as well...but it highlighted the other elephant in the room: who's the real galan on this show again?
Good morning, all. It is a rainy, gray here.
I could not understand much dialogue, but when I saw Pearljam on the phone with Miguel, I figured that she was trying to persuade him to talk Carito into returning. Now, Miguel is going to blame himself if Carito is hurt killed.
Evidently, Gut is now Dave's newest enemy. It seems that the writers have finally decided that he us a bad guy. What a bunch of monkeys.
Question: What is all that weird fabric hanging in Erica's weird canopy bed? Would a person with breathing issues have fabric hanging on the bed like that?
Sonia does put out quite a snack buffet. Lilian seems to enjoy her snacks .
Marta and Lilian act like high school girls competing for the quarterback. Basta.
Juan is counting on Carito to tell the truth about Mark and lie about Juan. Yikes. I don't think that girl can lie worth a damn, and it's even harder when you have to mix lies with truth.
I agree with Lila, even though I don't like Lilian, Marta's behavior is childish and obnoxious. She did wear a better dress than usual, though.
So Gut is still crazy, and now Bobby has me worried too. It's one thing for him to like (or pretend to like, whatever) tia Gracie but it's another thing to get mad at Luci and his father for working. I thought they covered this with his therapy. Maybe he needs to start seeing Dr Anderson.
Fernanda FAILED! The end of the world is nigh.
I think if Brian weren't twisting in the wind in a different direction daily, we'd be even more caught up in Marta's frequent mood swings and illogical, and often hurtful behavior.
Bill, I admit that "girlfriend looked great" too. However, a pale complexion, sunken eyes and lack of any makeup would have been far more effective in garnering our sympathy.
The actor playing Miguel is endearing. You could feel his struggle to break off with Luci. And while I think Miguel has good qualities, I'm not convinced he is quite at the galan level, but neither is David IMHO. I'm reserving that status for Cesar and Ramon...
Diana
Back on scheduled recap duty for me next week :)
Exactly Bill. The most engaged and focused Luciana has been with David was because Miguel gave her the stiff arm. Had he not she would have been with Miguel everyday.
Miguel's commitment to Erika (and Adolfo) will make it more palatable when he is rewarded in the end with his own vineyard windfall when Erika dies.
Marta has always had a huge ego fed by winning the attention and adoration of men. Lilian is her only competition but any woman she would view as competition would receive her ire.
Susanlynn, I will be getting rain and a little snow, but I don't think we are expecting the kind of wind to qualify for a noreaster. It will make for a slow drive home tonight, though.
Yes for me Lila and Susuanlynn.
Julie, it didn't occur to me that Miguel was being presumptuous in declaring the vineyard "ours", but perhaps it was. I had hoped that would occur once he and Erica got married, not when/if she passes away.
I am hoping Delilah will be able to tell us exactly what illness Erica suffers from.
Diana
Miguel is, though, and that's been a problem (for me) from the beginning. I have no complaints about the actor and would love to see him again in another role, but I don't think territoriality is a great quality in a galan or pseudo-galan.
As for who is the real galan, I nominate Bobby in spite of his little fit of pique last night. I think he's the smartest guy in Sonoma. Cesar can be his runner-up.
Ramon is a nice man, but his aspirations are much too low to qualify as galan. He's been carrying a torch for years when he could have been looking for someone who's actually worthy of him.
There was some discussion about looking for her medication, but I didn't catch all of it. Some years ago, I had a coworker who had asthma. He made it a point to tell us where he kept his inhalers, and which one to give him if he seemed to be in trouble. (It was red! A dead giveaway.)
I know not everyone wants to share their private medical issues with their coworkers, and in most cases they shouldn't - but I was glad that he did. We never needed to give him his inhaler, but I thought about that last night as Miguel was blundering around the office looking for Erika's stuff. They really should have had that talk.
And ditto to Susanlynn about the curtainy froo-froo on Erika's bed. Maybe she does sleep in the office.
Re Erica's bedroom: it looks newly-minted. The ridiculousness and funkiness of the MPR must've suddenly dawned on somebody!
She is cute when she is sick I must say.
Lila, "He really loves that old frump". And there you have it :)
Susanlynn, snow is indeed coming our way. Julie lives in a different part of MA so her forecast could be different than mine. To be honest, I have deliberately avoided hearing specifics. It's April. APRIL. (Well it is tomorrow).
I love this blog.
Diana
Has he ever done it in a real bed?
Lillian won't be able to fool anyone with a fake Boston accent, especially Bostonians. Her whole thing is to try to pass as a rich Bostonian but she would fail that test big time. Her lack of pedigree will be obvious to anyone who knows how to Google and her utter lack of class will show at the first wrinkle in whatever her long-term plan is. Her racism and her snobbery makes the word Wannabee light up in neon.
I had never expected Erika's room to look so stupidly feminine. She is so no-nonsense in other things that I expected it to be more practical. She and Luciana are very similar so I thought they would get on better, but her insecurity is what is getting in the way. She's insecure around Luciana while Luciana is somewhat insecure around DisGracie despite having her number.
I agree that the writers haven't made Erika's illness clear, but that is standard operating procedure. What they've done with Brian at this point is really bad.
I am certain that Juan is wanting to lead Carito into a trap and let Mark finish her off.
Our Lambda Chi house had a rule concerning "visitors" that you each had to have a foot on the floor at all times. It kept our local chiropractors in business. :-)
I can think of several other examples where a specific condition was named, but the "facts" of the story did not support the diagnosis. (Psychotic killing sprees are blamed on bipolar disorder. Twice that I've seen so far. That's why I'm done with Osorio. But I digress.)
So it's really for the best if they don't tell us exactly what Erika has. Now we can't complain that they're cheating if she dies of something that's easy to treat, or if she's made well by a treatment that doesn't exist.
Great picture, Kirby. You could definitely sell those.
L. Linda
Susanlynn, Heh, heh, heh :)
Diana
Cesar seems to have slacked off on his fulltime job as Dave's advisor\voice of reason now that he has taken on the fulltime job of Susan's defender\protector. There is only so much Cesar to go around, folks.
OT snowing now. Feh
Remember the good old days when galans were large and in charge and at least as smart as the villains? Don Luis in Alborada. Captain Rick in Pasion. Manuel in Amor Real. Oh, all roles played for Fernando Colunga!
(I don't remember if he was smart in STuD or not. I just remember him taking a lot of showers. And PEAM doesn't count - everyone was stupid in that. That's the last Colunga I've seen.)
The first (slightly) disappointing galan I can remember was Rodrigo in Destilando. He was just a little too gullible. But that's nothing compared to David, who usually fails to act even when he smells a rat, and doesn't seem to know much about running a business.
I don't need a galan to have super powers, but I REALLY don't want him to be a boob.
I get frustrated by dumb heroines, too. One thing I will say for Luciana, even if I don't like the way she does things, she's not dumb or gullible.
And after some quick research...Dansko's fine shoe selection has got absolutely nothing on Marta's #imperialwalkerclogs.
Julie..Your comment about what you need in a galan should be posted at the top of the caray page. Also, Rodrigo was an interesting galan in that be could only ...ehm...galan one woman...Gaviotaaaaaaa.
I see the recap is up and want to read it before I head out from work. In the SNOW....Ack.
Diana
Your snark was sassy and smart. “Hallelu-YER!”, “Speaking of madness Marta stomps into Lilian's room with her Dansko shoes to announce that Lilian must get Brian to leave her alone” and “Fifth wheel Lucia feels alone and out of place without her plus one and she quietly slips up the stairs as she longingly looks on” were among many favorites.
Yes, Adolfo was keeping his eye on his cherished daughter but as Niecie pointed out last night, you can't blame him. She is the apple of his eye and of course he wants to protect her.
I hope there is a little more to love in tonight's episode. Having Luci as Ms. Lonely Hearts is rather sad. She and David need to either rekindle the spark or extinguish the flame completely.
Diana
"multiple vest wearing violations" hahahaha
"David is not all that as a businessman...he's where he is because of NoJuan and all the work he did for him over the years." Sadly, from what we've seen lately, that might be true. David isn't the one who figured out how to deal with the irrigation problem, and he didn't think to pull permits for the construction either. He should have hired a business manager as soon as he got rid of Juan.
"You will want to be my bestie and chase after my kids Nana" - poor Gut, he's finally lost it. I'm sure Luciana would never agree to be nana to Gut's brat-demons.
I appreciate that Adolfo is worried about his daughter's health, but working at the vineyard is her raison d'etre. And she's a grown woman. She's sick, but she doesn't need Daddy to play healthcare proxy just yet!
So, hopefully Dave realizes that Lil had NOTHING to do with getting Ramon out of trouble. I couldn't tell. And hopefully he also didn't buy Lil's claim that she made the cake. (You know, I'm starting to doubt that she helped with those gift bags for Fer's party, too. So disappointing.)
"The man she loves has nuts the size of raisins, and is led around the nose by a band of hyenas" Gosh, Delilah, I'm beginning to think you don't like David!
You know, if I were to tell Bobby that I was too busy with work to play with him, and then I went and had a dumb fight with my boyfriend instead, I'd be really sorry I didn't go for the video games after all. If I'm going to do something unproductive, it might as well be something fun.
Julie...yes, I, too, am getting suspicious about the gift bag brag. Both Lilian and Disgrace are not shy about taking credit for other people's work, especially when it comes to cooking. One of my best friends used to buy potato salad at the grocery store to bring to picnics . The guys would always tease her with "Did you make that yourself, Genny? " To which she made a rude gesture while telling then "I bought it myself? " However, I could honestly say that I made my well loved chocolate éclair cake myself .
No, Julie, you didn't dream or imagine it. I saw it, too.
David was starting to lay down the law. She won't be allowed to date, see her friends, or anything until she studies and passes those exams. And FerDemanda (Good one, Delilah) was about to melt down yet again. This is exactly what DisGracie was looking for although we never heard her say so.
Considering where we are in the story it is about time that the villains began turning on each other:
-- Juan is probably looking to free himself from the SkidMark... after the latter kills Carito so she can't rate either of them out.
-- Lillian has always had issues with the way DisGracie goes about her evil and this latest thing with FerDemanda is probably the trigger point.
As to what's going on with Brian, I hope the writers are having him pretend to side with Juan in order to get the goods on him. However, what he did to Ramon was incredibly wrong. If this supposition is right he's playing a dangerous game and I hope he knows what he's doing. We have speculated that he could end this series with a redemptive death by saving Marta's life -- or even Luciana's.
I hope Erika survives this story and gets a little more self-esteem. She is her father's only child and he doesn't deserve to lose her, either.
David's laid down the law to various people in the past, but it never seems to take. If Dr Anderson is brought into this mess, it will be interesting to see just how far he can push Gracie's agenda without pissing David off.
To many faves to quote but here are a few for the thought expressed and the manner of expression.
. . .And speaking of ass, NoJuan's cheap piece PerlJam is filing her nails when he walks in all happy because he's annoyed David.
[Luciana is]Taken from her family, reunited with a skank mother who judges and doesn't support her, while sweeping her own dirty stuff under the rug. Now she has lost her childhood best friend and the man she loves has nuts the size of raisins, and is led around the nose by a band of hyenas. Run Lucia..run away from this vineyard and go find happiness with normal people and a man who will ignite passion in you and will love you properly.
Oh, gawd! You got the gift and AMEN! Skank mother with the emotional maturity of an 11 year old! And yes, band of hyenas and I'm sure you counted FerDemanda (love it!) as one of 'em.
Thanks, girl! Gotta go pick up on the comments I missed!
Honestly, he does need to have the wake-up call that FerBrat has been worse ever since DisGracie assumed squatting rights in his house. Compared to her Lillian is almost harmless because she just ignored the kids.
Someone also needs to convince Luciana that the only person who would really be miserable at her romance with David is DisGracie because it ruins her one-upwomanship game that she played with Lisa and now needs a new opponent for. As for anyone else none of this is their business.
Unless PerlJam can dig out whatever is on Lisa's cell phone the only person who could out DisGracie as Lisa's killer is Juan. If it plays that way I hope both David and Lillian hear it. That would be fun times, indeed.
Juan doesn't get to steal from David, Lisa doesn't get bonked on the head, and Luciana grows up thinking of David as the patron and not a love interest. Miguel doesn't have ten years to develop an unrealistic, idealized vision of Luciana. She falls in love with some boy at school, and Miguel turns his attentions elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Grace dies in a freak accident with a luggage cart at the airport. But not before she bonks Juan on the head with a rock and kills him. Lil goes back to San Diego, and Gutierrez is totally irrelevant.
But, PerlJam has petitioned Miggy to get CaritoDorito back and sure enough she is back. Right there with the vipers.
Now as we all suspect if her days are numbered, will there be anybody in North California smart enough to put two and two together? It will apparently need to be someone outside the grape/wine business or their orbit. Maybe those highway patrol guys on the Hondas can stop by and investigate.
If I see a el deado Carito and everyone is wringing their hands wondering how a grapevine learned to work a Glock I will blow a gasket.
Don't do it..............
I continue to root for David and Lucia...but only because I don't want DisGrace or Lilian to get their way but ESPECIALLY FerDemanda who in my opinion didn't need to be manipulated by DG. I don't think she was ever going to approve of Lucia and DG merely capitalized on it.
I feel for Lucia, I always have. I think she's young and didn't have the guidance of a mother during a crucial time in her life. When she was finally reunited with her mother all she has had is judgement and pressure to be with Miguel and then not Miguel. Lucia has never had her mother's unconditional and honest support. Lucia has been confused as she navigates her youth and the first feelings of love. She thought it was Miguel but realized she didn't love him passionately as a man but as a dear friend. David is her love, the passion and all Marta did was make it about herself and guilt Lucia. I want Lucia happy and everyone else be damned!
David is a weak galan. He's not fighting for anything..or anyone. He's like a pretty shell that gets carried by the stormy waves. Lil and DG have navigated everything under that roof the moment Lisa passed. I'm surprised he's a successful businessman and wonder how he got this far. It's sad because I love GS and think he's so yummy! The writers have failed with this couple.
The writers need to take us out of our misery and soon.
Second, I feel for Lucia, but I feel for IB too. She is a pretty, smart sharp girl who shined in other roles, and I just hope this mess does not have a lasting effect on her career. She is capable of so much more.
kj
And the vest stuff is strange. I haven't seen this many vests since the 70s.
Julie at 2:52, LOVE your whole comment!
Kirby, I feel ya, brother: If I see a el deado Carito and everyone is wringing their hands wondering how a grapevine learned to work a Glock I will blow a gasket.
Delilah, we ARE kindred spirits! I know I've called Luciana a player but I like your character summary better, Delilah. Marcos did a damned good job and the best he could but you're right about not having the guidance of a mother at a crucial time in her life to guide her. Marta is a big-mouthed hypocrite and cared more about dead Fernando's grandchildren than she ever cared about him or her own daughter.
Oh, sorry, I get carried away when I talk about Marta! Phew! Anyway, you make a good case for Luciana and I'd rather think her sometimes hesitance towards David is because of these feelings and the, face it, full on crazy-assed BS that has happened in that house, all orchestrated by Grace, since she and David declared their love for one another. I want to see Luci happy, too!
No one is really surprised though eh? I don't even fully blame DG because Fer has been just as busy running around trying to get Tano's attention and butting into her father's love life. It's not all DG manipulating. Fer is her own kind of immature , me..me..me drama.
Second question. what will they do when they find out?
Obvious: !---FerBrat-->2-->FerChernobyl
But what if: 1---Lillian--->2-->Tell OR use it for her own agenda?
CrazyMarta ? --->Tell David? Use it against Lillian? Tell Brian so he will take her back?
David--->1--->Kill DG OR 2-->just kill them all and let God sort it out later?
Perla--> 1---.Tell NoJuan-->NoJuan kills Perla
Tell the girl down at TJ Maxx in exchange for a bracelet?
Sonia YIKES ! How did my hands type that?
Luci--->Tell David....Of fricking course NOT. No One ever tells the person they are supposed to tell, even when his daughter can't breathe.
I am getting tired of Fer's tantrums too, so I don't blame you for fast forwarding through her scenes.
I wish David would grow some cajones. He is grumpy, short tempered, but easily manipulated.
More tomorrow. I would have commented more but work got in the way, y'all know how it is.
Thanks Delilah.
I got home late (due to Mexican food, not bad weather). I will do the recap tomorrow.
Until then, here is an apt song.
Tofie and Cynthia, thank you for stopping by this evening. I appreciate your kind comments!
Nina, you're right, the crazy started at one vineyard and now it's over at Adolfo's. How did that happen? Oh right, the two vineyards are now connected via Smuguel. David/Lucia and their dysfunction seem to follow.
Lila what can I say? I love Luciana and have felt for this girl since the day she was captured and deported. Lilian and her hateful machinations have robbed her of growing up with a mother. Sadly it seems Marta wouldn't have been much of a mother, since she seems to put Fer above her own daughter. I really want Luciana to have the beautiful happy ending I think she deserves and that her father would have supported. He seems to have been the only one, who understood her and had her back unconditionally.
