Vino el Amor #110 & 111; Wednesday April 5, 2017: Vino La Muerte para Mark!

We begin where we left off yesterday with Luciana crying because of David. Marta says that DisGrace convinced Fernanda to apologize to Marta and she is happy for the return of that relationship and is grateful to Grace. Marta tells Lu to think about whether or not she would have accepted either of her parents with another and to put herself in Fernanda’s shoes.

The press conference begins and Lil introduces DisGrace to the waiting members of the press. Grace announces her retirement and describes how much she loves her family and thanks them. She fawns all over David and introduces David as a man any woman would love to be with. My familia…blah, blah, blah…Reporters ask how long retirement because so many use “retirement” for other purposes such as to inflate the price of their paintings because of their short supply. She assures that this retirement is temporary and that she needs to retire for the sake of her “sobrinos” who are growing up very quickly. She says she can always recover her career, but cannot recover time with her “sobrinos”.

David is upset because of what Grace said to the press. It made him feel very uncomfortable and felt like it was downright blackmail! They argue about it and she says she has every RIGHT to be with her sobrinos. But David says continue to clarify things with her that he’s not interested in having a relationship with her!

Deleted scene: Sonia brings some furry handcuffs to León and they have a makeout session inside the distillery. Carito catches them as she didn’t know they were in there. They can’t take off the handcuffs and have to ask Carito for help. León and Sonia have an argument and she storms off.

Deleted scene: Erica gets sick with her breathing problem, she’s out of albuterol in her inhaler. Mig calls the doctor.

Next, DisGrace says she is going to take Bobby to donate to the immigrants. Lu comes in and Bobby invites her but she tells him she has to work. She promises to spend time with him soon.

At dinner Dave thanks Grace for taking Bobby to donate to the immigrants. Fer announces she’s ready for the exam and Grace says she is very proud of her.

Ramon tells Dave the shipment of grand reserve is ready to go to San Francisco.

Lu and David argue in the office about DisGrace. He claims there is nothing between him and Grace. He says he’s just “grateful”.  Grace calls on the phone and he seems to be at her beck and call. Luciana pretty much says, “See what I mean? And she is nothing but a liar! I am afraid you don’t know the difference between being grateful and falling for her temptations.” Dave continues to protest that it really isn’t that way at all. [Well Dave, you’ve got a lot of us fooled since you let her stay in your house.]

Finally Luciana says “I can’t work like this because we are fighting.

Grace and Fer discuss what she feels for David. Fer thinks Grace is incredible and hopes her father notices how wonderful she is and all the things she does for the family. Fer tells Grace she just wants to see her happy and hopefully her father will realize how great she is.

Dave and Lu finally go over the presentation and he is pleased with it and Lu’s additions and changes. Music begins and he says he misses her. They embrace and come close and tell each other how difficult it is to be away from each other. Lu says that together they make a great team.

Later, Dave and Lu talk about the competition and DisGrace walks in and interrupts. She gives something to look over for the competition and Lu takes it. Grace grabs it back and gives it to Dave who gives it back to Lu, who hands it back over to DisGrace.

Lil brings Fer to Gutierrez’s office to offer community work for her college application process. Gut recommends the association that helps immigrants and Lil is upset, she doesn’t want to help ‘illegals” because it’s “too dangerous”. Gut explains that it’s Cesar’s association and she will be perfectly safe.

At dinner, Lil mentions about how the family should be getting involved in important functions. [Like what? The annual Sonoma ball?]

Cesar comes to see Susan at her office. She is optimistic about winning the competition. She mentions the event with the grand reserve in San Francsico. Then Cesar says he wants to spend the rest of his life with her and asks her to marry him. She gets nervous and backs off, she says she is not ready. She talks about how Mark treated her and doesn’t want Cesar to misinterpret her. She thinks that marriage ruins things and doesn’t need a piece of paper to be happy.

Lu is happy that Dave asked Grace to leave them alone and tells Marta and León that. Marta says that Grace is doing well with the children and Lu says that everything DisGrace does is a lie. She doesn’t believe a word from Grace even though Marta seems to be grateful that Grace got Fer to make up with Marta.

Juan comes home receives his papers and calls Mark that he can get the money at the bank. He tells Mark to meet him at his apartment. He tells Perla that Mark is coming and he is terminating his friendship with Mark. He also tells Perla that she shouldn’t be there when Mark arrives.

Lu and Susan talk about Cesar’s proposal and Susan thinks that marriage ruins relationships. She doesn’t want her relationship with Cesar to be ruined. Lu advises her to explain these things to Cesar so he can go slowly. Lu complains how DisGrace has her mother hoodwinked. She is also upset that DisGrace has moved in on her relationship with Bobby.

Grace and David talk in his office. He tells her that it was HER decision to retire and that his wine business is his wine business and he makes the decisions.

Cesar and David talk about his proposal to Susan and Dave tells him to give it time. He assures Cesar that Susan loves him.

Lu and Susan continue to discuss the situation of her relationship with Cesar as they continue working and winding up the day.

Juan waits at his apartment, someone comes to the door but it’s Gutierrez. They are going to sabotage him with Gut laying in the wait. He calls Mark but Mark says he wants his wife. Mark is in the offices and shows up saying, “Hi Honey”. Susan says, “Mark! What do you want?”

Juan informs Gut that Mark went over to the vineyard. Mark telling Susan how much he loves her and want her to come with him. Lu pushes him away and tells him to get out.

Dave gets a call from Gut telling him that Mark is at the vineyard.

Meanwhile Mark pulls out a gun at Susan and Lu. David and Cesar walk in and he eventually lets go of Susan but he holds Luciana in a chokehold with a gun to her head. He tells Susan to come with him or something will happen to Luciana.

David orders Mark to let her go. Susan tries to reason with him and says she will go with him. Gut shows up with his men and Gut tells Mark to drop the gun. But Mark says only if Susan comes with him. Gut says he is going to put his weapon down but Mark shoots grazing Gut on the arm, Luciana gets away and Gutierrez shoots Mark back, killing him.

Lu thanks him for saving her life. Gut asks David to come make a statement at his office and tells David that Mark is the one who was profiting from the immigrants and who ruined the wine with amber acid.

While that is going on, Marta comes downstairs unaware of what is happening and says she can’t sleep and feels very anxious. Later David and Gut bring Lu in to the house and tell Marta what happened. Marta comes and thanks Gutierrez for saving Lu’s life and Gut tells Lu he is really glad she is ok. She says she owes him her life.

Carito even tells Lu that she is very happy she is okay.

Lu tells Marta she is very grateful to Gutierrez. Marta says she forgives him.

Cesar comforts Susan inside the Robles house. They talk about how Mark is dead now and she needs to leave her suffering with him in the past. Cesar assures Susan that he is going to be with her through the bad times and the good and if necessary, they can go through therapy together. As they are talking, DisGrace rudely walks in and interrupts as usual. He lets her know about what happened with Mark attacking. Grace says, “Oh I have to go to David to see if he needs me.” Cesar tells her that if David needed her, he would be seeking her out. “This has been a very difficult night for all of us here,” Cesar tells DisGrace and walks out with Susan.

She seeks him out anyway they talk about the situation but he tells her that Mark is a friend of Juan’s. He leaves to go check on Luciana leaving her alone.

At the SB vineyard Erica and Miggy talk about their wine and their future together. She says she wants to start a family with him. Miguel is overjoyed and promises to make her very happy.

Juan and Perla argue and he says that everything he’s done, he’s done because of her. Perla says that’s not true and that all that he’s done, he’s really did it for himself.

The next day Marta comes to tell Gutierrez she forgives him and she gives him a hug for saving her daughter. He is glad, but she tells him she has to go and it’s a shame things had to happen this way.

In the morning, Lu comes to Dave’s office and he asks how she is and tells her that he couldn’t imagine life without her if something had happened to her. [End of episode 111]

Cynthia: good recap.

Body Count:

1.) Lisa Robles

2.) Marcos Munoz

3.) El Coyote

4.) Several of the immigrants being smuggled into the US

5.) Don Fernando the Player

6.) OJ Mark Evans: Good riddance.

Unless I forgot anyone else let me know.

Thank you Cynthia. Things make more sense and less like I watched an hour of trailers.

"I am afraid you don’t know the difference between being grateful and falling for her temptations.”

Luciana is so desperate for attention it's proof of a love connection when a grown ass man plays hot potato with her and Graciela's tablet.

Cynthia..Thanks so much for reporting all the crazy.

Okay, Luci, you can put yourself in Fer's shoes but please do not put yourself in Marta's shoes.

That showdown with Marked went down pretty fast. Meh.

Yeah, the whole Mark thing was anti climatic. Bad as he was all this was done so Marta can date Brian again without feeling guilty when she sees Luciana's face.

Cynthia, another fabulous, well written recap. Your screen shots were marvelous! I eagerly read every word.

I can forgive most of what has transpired in this TN. The writers sloppy, nonsensical plot lines, etc., etc. But there are a few things I cannot forgive. Cutting a Sonia and Leon scene? Never! The only glimpse we had of Sonia was part of her torso in one of the kitchen scenes. Nobody and I mean Nobody puts Sonia in a corner. To cut the most enjoyable, whimsical characters scene stealing shenanigans is unforgiveable.

And on the most confusing scene of the night - Marta appeared to be wearing a gray sweatshirt dress and high black heels. Que??

Some of us speculated early on that Brian might redeem himself by saving someone else. I did not see him saving Luci's life as even a remote possibility. After, watching him sweet talk Marta as she bestowed her "Moondoggie" eyes on him was just painful to watch. Does anyone remember "Two-Face" on Batman? As the character often did, the writers need to flip a coin and decide who and what Brian is...

And to see Ramon in the background, watching Brian getting a hero's greeting from Marta and Luci was wretched. While Marta's thanks to him was merited, I fervently hope that's all it is and that they do not start dating again.

Juan is as angry as Mark and frankly is as obsessed. Mark with Susan and Juan with revenge toward David. Juan is clearly more level headed than Mark but his confrontations with David are terse, but to me, fall rather flat.

When David and Luci had their "touching" scene together, it seemed as though the actress physically stepped back as soon as it was done (her back was to us). Not feeling it.

While I am sadly just continuing to lose interest in the show itself, the recappers and patio continue to be one of the highlights of the day.

Cynthia, thank you so much.

Diana

Some of us speculated early on that Brian might redeem himself by saving someone else. I meant to add "and dying in the process".

Diana

Gracias, Cynthia. At last we are moving forward.

Did anyone else think that the "press conference" was a set-up for DisGrace to make the press believe she was about to marry David? He certainly saw it that way. Those flowers on the tables could have been reception centerpieces. This was particularly egregious in view of DisGrace's own mother greeting the press and introducing her. Can't wait to see what they write in the paper.... that is, if any of the journalists in the room think it's at all important enough.

I knew they would cut the handcuff scene. Shame on you, Univision! That was needed comic relief and very well done by all three actors.

The SkidMark has finally been rubbed out; congratulations to Brian for that. This should be a tremendous relief to both Susan and Carito. I wonder whether Juan has even thought about the financial consequences for himself:

-- If Susan's divorce was never finalized she now owns everything that is documented in Mark's name. While her knee-jerk reaction will be to give it all up I hope Cesar convinces her not to because she can help ruin Juan's plans. She can refuse to sell the 20 or 25% of Juan's olive grove until he puts back the irrigation pipes. She could also demand more money for it that Juan doesn't have.
-- If there is any other money in Mark's name she will need to investigate where it came from. If it was obtained through criminal means I think it may be subject to confiscation by the state. If not she can put it into the foundation, which will royally annoy Lillian.

With the events playing out as they did it does seem that Mark's death was unspectacular and even early in the game. However, it was necessary to mend fences between Brian and David because David still suspects Juan of ruining the wine. Juan was the one with the motive and he is the connexion to Mark. There is a paper trail that has the delivery of the acid to the bodega where the first immigrants were warehoused.

Carito is still an idiot for not outing Juan. Perla is still an idiot for being with him. However, her rant at him for setting up Mark was on the money. This is the first real truth she has arrived at about him.

Did anyone notice that nice grey dress and the heels Marta was wearing in the later scenes? That is the set-up for her to finally have a love life and to become David's next suegra.

More later; I need caffeine.

Thank you Cynthia! Yay Grungy Mark is dead! I have been waiting on this episode ever since I saw his death scene on YouTube. Good thoughts on the financial consequences, UA.

I am glad they are upping Marta's fashion game.

I am sad they cut Leon/Sonia. Would gladly have traded Cesar's lame proposal for that handcuff scene. And I wish Uni, if it must cut, would cut a little more smoothly. The cuts are so freaking choppy.

Great Recap Cynthia, may the TN Gods bless you and your offspring. CCs were from Mars last night Thanks Beanervision. This network pisses me off inn so many ways. Scrambled CCs then when Morphrodite Airplane Driver comes on they are perfect without the usual garbage show name every line. WHAT is so friggin hard about CCs?

What a Crock of Shit. Mark is DEAD? Wonder-frickin-ful, so he alone , being dead, is blamed for the wine sabotaqe AND all the illegals? Ducky. Now NoJuan gets a pass on that and keeps the money as a consolation prize?

Snails are smarter than Marta. She is on team Grace now.

Cesar, you are waaaay too nice. "I am just not ready." Translation, I might go back to my abusive husband (which I actually kinda like---I married him you know), or Tano, yum, so forget this marriage crap. So Cesar bang it like it is the last you will ever get, then dump her before she shitcans you.

RATS, I missed Sonia in the 'Cozy Cuffs'? Told ya she is a little on the freaky side.

Urban I noticed Marta had on a whole different 'face' thank you makeup dept, when she went to see Brian. Much softer and prettier. The makeup people on this show especially are pretty adept at rearranging these womwn's faces through makeup to give them a whole different look.

An example is Irina everyday, then when she was dolled up for the first wine hoohah when she was locked ourt. Face alone, you would not think it was the same girl.

I have also wondered whether the scene snippets we get now instead of scenes of a more reasonable length are meant to make these episodes easier to edit.

There were other missing scenes in this, ones not as important as what was mentioned except for Tano and Ramon talking about Ramon's love life. We know he's had a thing for Marta for years and that Marta was probably a maternal substitute for Ramon's ex and the only mother figure in Tano's life.

It looks like the writers want us to keep guessing whom Marta ends up with. My guess is that Ramon will get her because she is likely to get angry with Brian all over again when it comes out that Lillian was the instigator of the deportation.

Kirby, I sometimes wonder at Televisa's makeup department. They seem to work miracles on some actresses. Maybe it's witchcraft? ;)

Urban, you posed thoughtful, interesting observations. I hadn't thought about Susan inheriting everything of Mark's. Money ill gained that could be used for good.

As you and dy both appeared to like Marta's dress (which I called a sweatshirt), could it possibly be I am not the fashionista I think I am?! :)

Devastated Diana

They cut the handcuff scene??? Shame on them!! And in episode 110 there is another very cute scene between them too, as León proposes Sonia a date where they can be "alone" (handcuffs included lol)and these crazy kids can barely keep their hands and lips off each other. Verónica and Derbez really shinned together on this show, they had the spontaneity and spark Luciana and Dumbvid lacked. It's such a pity you are missing it...

For those of you who are really interested in their storyline, you can search for their scenes on Youtube... Most of them are certainly uploaded there, the handcuff scene included.

Another thing, can these Spaniards not come up with a gender specific name for an airplane driver? Christ ! in Spanish we have male and female everythings, I bet there is a gender form for Lisa's rock, but the airplane driver has to be Piloto? Anybody ever think of La PilotA?

El rock, la roca?

Kirby: I see that Cougar Sonia was getting her freak on with Leon the Cub while all the chaos was going on.

How about taxista? I think French makes the adjustment for gender. German is even crazier with masculine, feminine, and neuter as in Kater, Katze, and Kätzchen for tomcat, (queen) cat, and kitten.

As a native speaker of English I have to admit that I don't get nominative gender at all.

NoJuan was taking a helluva chance letting the PoPo in with that pistol stuck in his belt, even covered by his untucked shirt. Modern Law enforcement summarily shoots and kills anyone they encounter who has a gun besides them.

Kudos to Gut for marksmanship. I do not believe NoJuan would have even hit Skid(downthevat) in a similar situation. Gut was dead on the money. I was actually surprised it didn't come out the back and get the wine vat, as once through the forehead, there would not appear to be much to slow it down. Gut's good with a Sig Sauer. It looked like NoJuan had a little plastic Glock.

TeeHee Urban: Maybe all airplanes are male and by association their 'Operators' are also. It appears that all forms of transportation, the actual machinery, are male or (like David) neuter.

BTW Steve, did you add David's nuts to your dead pool? Oops oh, only for characters. OK.

Wow! Thank you SO MUCH, Cynthia! Again, I am behind because of work and these idiots doubling up on episodes. Even though I haven't seen the episode or read the recap I want you to know I really appreciate this Herculean effort to keep the patio informed and engaged. You are an awesome part of an awesome recap team!

Gracias, de verdad!

Lila

What rips me about SkidMark is that it left NoJuan virtually scott free. He has a few things to tie him to his crimes, but we really needed Mark to create mass chaos, and he looked pretty out of it with that laser placed lead hole in his pretty little forehead.

Aw Man, Sonia with those cozy cuffs and those looong legs from Heaven to Earth, yowie Leon, next time get a ROOM.

The Witless Protection Program needs to relocate Luci and give her a life, as she has not noticed that she needs to just leave. Love is grand, but Mohammed could not move that mountain either. What Luci is doing is like trying to eradicate a Fireant colony stabbing them with a toothpick. You're gonna have a few bites girl.

Good point about the firearm possession. Novelas make it look like owning a handgun is easy and that everyone has the right to do so but I admit that they make me nervous. Brian is a cop and has been one for over ten years so we expect him to be a good shot. Juan, on the other hand, is not likely to be one and certainly would not have been anywhere near as accurate. He can't keep a cool head about anything. Although...

...with all that metal in the place Juan's bullet would ricochet off everything and probably end up hitting him. That's a Karmageddon I could support. ;)

Diana, Marta's dress was quite flattering. It looks like a soft knit, slightly tapered, and the right length for any woman. The lowered cowl neckline looks good on her and not confining. Much better than the Edwardian Schoolmistress look Susan wore at the competition. That was too much at variance with Luciana's sexy red dress.

Gracias, Cynthia.

I'm forking amazed that the editors we love to hate have cut two instances now of couples getting intimate, let alone one of them being Best Couple Leon and Sonia. Since a typical ultimas semanas period runs 4-8 weeks and, last I knew, Uni hasn't even started pimping whatever show's replacing VEA yet, why in the world are they skipping things we would actually want to see when in theory they've got the time to run it?

OTOH, Pigpen got clipped. That offsets almost all the other insanity in this episode (Lilian's giant cloth flower was beyond help, though at least that was counterbalanced by her latest reading choice: How To Be Rich). That said, I'm actually going to give a tiny bit of credit to Juan Carlos Serrano (Mark); he had a pretty thankless role, even without the accidentally Eurotrash-action-movie-villain English accent--perhaps the most thankless next to, what, Perla?--and he did a good job with it. That said, getting rid of him really just ties up Susan's story; now everything left shifts to Juan, who presumably has to go down before Show gets to the Big Bad: Graciela.

By extension, though...if Juan was setting up Mark to get busted on-site by Magic Brian (and was there a previous cut scene setting that up?), why was he packing his gun?

And, chiming in on Marta Fashion Watch as she continues to get some: I said a while back Cynthia Klitbo was slowly moving towards "less frumpy, more foxy," and last night's dress and makeup and sensible but pretty heels (let alone it being her second, or technically I guess fourth, episode without any appearance of the #wheelchockclogs) definitely confirms it. The question is why it took 100+ episodes to get there; then again, since this seems to roughly parallel Azela Robinson's gentler makeup changes, I guess it's telegraphing the inevitable reversal of fortunes? Marta finally finds happiness again, while Lilian's plans blow up in her face (and since Lilian has one really big karma moment coming, I guess it's to help her look a teensy bit sympathetic when it hits)?

"Witless Protection Program". Hee, hee Kirby.

I like your reversal of fortune comment Bill. I would be very comfortable with Lili being out on the street (literally), penniless.

I feel that if in the same situation, Graciela would get up, dust herself off and get on with it. That is why I suspect her ending will be far more painful. Somehow she will either lose her looks or be locked away where they will be far more of a liability than an asset.

Lisa, thanks for the heads up. I will look for the Sonia/Leon handcuff scene elsewhere.

Diana

Don't care what makeover Marta gets I still can't stand her. Cannot wait till she realizes what her new bff Graciela has planned for Fernanda and Bobby.

This new hero Brian was just doing his job and if anyone Luciana the hero saving Susan's life and opportunistic enough to overcome her fear and twist out of Mark's grasp. This is the same sheriff that illegally arrested and held Ramon overnight and is blind to Juan's involvement in anything.

Diana..Yes, Gracie is ,indeed, the Energizer BUnny." No matter what anyone says, she just keeps putting on her pretty face and moving forward stubbornly with her plans. No matter how many times DAve says "not happening" , she snarls a bit, turns, walks away, but still persists in thinking she can rope and hogtie old Dave if she is patient. Girl is tenacious .

Urban, I also got weird vibes from that odd press conference. That huge floral display looked like an austentatious floral arrangement for the head table at a wedding reception. And Grace's comments to the press were meant to suggest that she and DAve were a couple and that she was retiring to devote herself to "their" fammmiiilllyy

Bill...WHat was up with that huge purple fabric flower on LIlian's chest?

I have no idea, Susanlynn. Since we've seen Lil sporting a giant flower on her blouse before, I suppose it's a running gag for her Hyacinth Bucket-ness: as much as she wants to consider herself high society and classy and fashionable, every so often she just flubs the fork out of it. (See also: her 70s-dystopian-movie couch/rug-remnant jackets.)

The writers have done odd things with Brian in recent weeks and I think he's just keeping his eyes and ears open. I think he knows that there is something dodgy about Juan if only because of his association with the SkidMark. Not to mention that Carito said -- without being questioned -- that Juan and Perla were not involved in anything about the immigrants.

There also has to be evidence of that involvement somewhere, so Carito will go down for perjury.

Bill, Juan had the pistol in the event of need if his meeting with Mark went south. I don't think he expected to use it unless Mark drew a gun first because this is the US and a gunshot sound will draw attention and the police. His digs look more like an apartment than a house so somebody would hear this. I don't think he was expecting Brian and his team to arrive first, as Mark's detour to David's winery was not anticipated by Juan.

Thank you so much, Cynthia. Great screencaps as always, and I am grateful for your coverage of TWO episodes.

The press conference was a thing of fantasy. Even if Grace is the most famous painter in the world (she'd have to be), no way would she get that big of a crowd. Am I wrong? "She says she can always recover her career" right, plenty of time for that in prison.

"DisGrace says she is going to take Bobby to donate to the immigrants" Hey, that's mean. If she's going to donate one of the kids, she should donate Fernanda! (just kidding)

I can't believe (yes I can) that Uni deprived us of good Sonia/Leon stuff.

I found Mark's death anticlimactic, maybe because I was never very interested in the character anyway. I just thought maybe his death could have been more interesting. The only interesting thing about this is that Juan now thinks he's totally off the hook. We'll see about that.

Susan and Cesar... ahh... if he still needs someone to redecorate, I'm still available. Or is Susan planning to stay with Cesar? Hey, why buy the bull when you can get the mierda for free, am I right?

"Perla says that’s not true and that all that he’s done, he’s really did it for himself" hmm, where are we going with this? Is she going to dump him before it's too late? Will she talk to the police?

Susanlynn: "put yourself in Fer's shoes but please do not put yourself in Marta's shoes." Hahahaha! BTW, sorry I forgot to book a dancer for your retirement party yesterday. Because it's so last-minute, the only available dancer is Adolfo. Is that okay?

Urban: Yes, I thought the press conference looked like a setup to start some buzz about at least a romance between Grace and David. I watched his face change when she was kissing his cheek. It went from bland smile to "wait, what's happening here?" The floral arrangements were GORGEOUS, and totally weird for a press conference, but not weird for, say, an engagement announcement.

You might be right about the reason for the teeny-tiny scenes, although those are Televisa's choice and I thought Televisa didn't approve of Univision's editing. However, it's probably easier to shoot three brief scenes than one long one, especially when things are done on a tight schedule and actors don't have much time to learn their lines.

Televisa puts on the makeup really, really thick. I think they pretty much blank out a woman's face and paint on a new one.

As for German, I had two years of it in college (not even in a row) and I have retained none of it except for a tiny bit of vocabulary - mostly Kraftwerk song titles, honestly. I found the grammar extremely confusing. Of all my academic misadventures, studying German was the least rewarding.

Kirby - There might be evidence of Juan's involvement in Mark's misdeeds on Mark's phone. Especially if he still has Perla's phone (which she should have cancelled as soon as she knew he had it). Oh, and don't mention fire ants. My feet had a real talent for cluelessly stepping on fire ant mounds. That's actually why I ended up getting a cell phone. (I had to use a pay phone, under which was a fire ant mound, and I couldn't get far enough away from it because I was on a call with a tow truck guy or something and it was my last quarter.)

And I'd still love to see Juan shoot himself by mistake, because he thinks he's soooo smart.

Perla could turn stool pigeon as she has the purchase order or invoice for the acid.

I wonder whether she will look at Lisa's cell phone again and recognize it. We don't know whether it has anything on it that will incriminate DisGrace, but the dominoes could fall if Perla rats out Juan because he could then rat out DisGrace and Lillian.

As to an earlier point about the value of DisGrace's non-art, I wonder what happened to the value of anything painted by John Wayne Gacy after his arrest and execution.

I was thinking that if Lisa's phone doesn't incriminate Grace, it might incriminate Juan if Lisa recorded what she heard. But in that case, Juan probably would have destroyed the phone, not kept it in a nice wooden box.

I've also wondered if that could have been someone else's phone (because I am always hoping in vain for a clever twist), but I don't know who else's phone it could be that wouldn't be more of a problem for Juan than for Grace.

The mere fact that Juan has Lisa's phone, assuming it is her phone, could get him in trouble for withholding evidence of a crime. So whatever is on there has to be REALLY good to be worth that risk.

I don't think there is anything on the phone, but if it were shown to DisGrace it could really get to her crazy and to an admission of guilt. If that is the case I hope that both Lillian and David are there to hear it.

Julie...Wait...What? No offense to Adolfo..But...No. I was kind of fantasizing about TAno ........mmmmm.....WHere was I? Re: retirement party..We may have to put that on hold .

Okay, off in the pouring rain to teach a chapter on the three kinds of loneliness...Sigh...I am going to need some cheering up when I get home. I may be doing some OT on my new favorite hero to raise my spirits. Get the DOritos ready. Save me a chair outside the vice principal's office. Peace..Out.

Regarding Gacy's artwork, from Wikipedia: "Many of his paintings have been displayed at exhibitions; others have been sold at various auctions, with individual prices ranging between $200 and $20,000 apiece."

You can easily find samples on Google (they look like acrylics), and even if they had been painted by a nice person I wouldn't pay $200 for any of them. Grace's subject matter is somewhat blander (not so many clowns), but her work shows much more skill. Perfect for, say, a dentist's waiting room.

Sorry, Susanlynn. Adolfo was really looking forward to busting a move for us. He'll be so disappointed!

Or a hotel room.

The only one of Grace's paintings I ever got a good look at was of a foot. Podiatrist's office? Lobby of a shoe manufacturer? Bedroom of a foot fetishist?

Nothing about her "art" is for the ages. Probably worth less than a painting on velvet of dogs playing poker.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

DisGrace and her "press conference" was disgraceful. Her attempt and lassoing David in by making it look like he was the man she was about to marry was terrible. It looked more like an engagement announcement rather than a simple retirement announcement. She was definitely trying to stage a "happy family" scene with David as her hero and "a man every woman would love to be with."

You know, there are plenty of poor and starving artists in San Francisco right now who are desperate to sell their paintings and become popular. What is it about DisGrace that makes her art so popular and why did she make so much money at it? Most artists don't get famous until they are much older or dead! To have the press there for a press conference for DisGrace must put her up in the "rich and famous" category and she can buy her own mansion. But no.....she leeches off of David along with her mother. I am sure neither of them is paying rent there or paying for their "keep".

That's exactly the point I've been making about her in the last couple of weeks.

The art world is one of those businesses that is rapidly changing due to the internet and young artists are benefitting from it. This doesn't make their work any better and it certainly doesn't make it more profound. It does make it cheaper, just as ebay has changed the world of auctions.

DisGrace is at the upper end of a generation that values nothing older than itself. They don't have the kind of money that buys art of any substance, so they pay lesser amounts for what they can afford and what they think they can relate to.

I would pay good money for a C. M. Coolidge painting (not on velvet), but it would be out of my price range. Google tells me that one of his dogs playing poker paintings went for $658,000. If I had that kind of money, I could afford a trainer to teach a bunch of dogs to play poker for real.

Coolidge is dead, of course. When Grace is dead (maybe in a few weeks), no one will be asking for "Bare Foot in Midair." They will ask, "where's the Gacy stuff?"

Some of the Gacy stuff is in hell with him. It was bought up and burned.

A former boss of mine is (or was) in a relationship with a man who was writing a book on serial killers. He interviewed Gacy several times in the last weeks of his life, the last time in person. Gacy did a painting of the couple. My boss was too creeped out by it to hang it in his home. It was less about what it looked like than who had painted it. I suggested that he leave it in the back of a closet until he could decide what to do with it and who knows? It could be worth something some day. I have no update on this.

I am wondering what kind of evidence is on Lisa's cellphone. And, why this might incriminate Grace in the murder.

1. The cellphone might have a list of calls made right before she died, and Grace's phone number could be on that list.

2. Grace's fingerprints could be on the cellphone.

3. Or, improbably Lisa, right before she died and while struggling with her sister, had the foresight to pull her cellphone out and start a recorder app, so that the whole struggle would be recorded.

I doubt it, as I think she was having battery drain when she arrived at the river. What I think will happen is that Gracie will freak out at the sight of it or the freakout will be triggered by something else.

UA: Gutierrez shooting OJ Mark was RIGHT BETWEEN THE EYES!

Lila: Univision cutting out the scenes of Cougar Sonia feasting her Cub Leon for dinner was like, WTH ?

She is microns away from a freakout, but I suppose it's still way too early for that.

But the phone itself could have perhaps just a snapshot of Grace at the river. A phone with a dying battery might have enough juice to take one picture. Or a very brief audio recording might not require much power. Either one, however small, would pose a serious problem for Grace if the timestamp was just a few minutes before David found Lisa dead.

And no way would I keep a Gacy painting (even a lovely one of myself) in a closet. First, because of bad juju. It might even curse all the other stuff in the closet. I'm not superstitious, but why tempt fate? Second, because I'd be likely to forget it was there, and then be unpleasantly surprised when I find it ten years later when cleaning my closet. Third, because I would have thrown it in a Dumpster on my way home.

Thank you Cynthia, your recap was much better than the episode.

Finally SkidMark has been dealt with. I was really tired of his "c'mon baby...pleeze baby"
I just hope we aren't going to be subjected to Soo-sun crying now over this.

I guess it's too much to hope that after this Dudveed will have an epiphany that he needs to just say the hell with it all and announce that he is going to be with Luciana and if folks have a problem with it, too bad. It's time he nut up and start being the MAN of the house and tell folks how it's going to be. He's letting that band of hyena's run all over him..including his selfish bratty me..me..me daughter. I don't feel sorry for her and never have. DG can't be blamed for all of her woes...FerDemanda was a selfish brat before DG got a ahold of her.

When are PerlJam and NoJuan going to die? They bore me so much. Skidmark was never more exciting then in his last scene with that hole in head up against the wall.

I really resent that two characters I don't care about have had more intimacy then the two I do care about.

Speaking of what is up with Smug and Erica? All their lovey dovey and talk of family, eternal love and being saved by the other. Shouldn't that have been for the main couple?

The writers are confused on who the main couple is...or maybe it's me.

Can Luciana and DudVeed ever just have scenes that are completely and utterly alone without interruptions from DisGROSSiela?! Let our couple have some damn passion and moments of intimacy! If I didn't know any better I would think the writers are more team DG and Dudveed.

I really resent the writers so much. There was so much potential for Luciana/DudVeed.

One option David could have explored was a lock for his office door. And maybe a sign: "No walk-ins. This means you. (GRACE)"

But I agree with you, Delilah. What is the point in having a main couple if this is how it's going to be?

JULIE: Yes some got me the other day unlocking a stubborn door in twilight.
Fireants are the insect world's DisGracie. I sprayed those little demons with Oven Cleaner, which was all I could reach, and the next day they had set up shop TWO feet away.
DisGrace x 10,000

Speaking of Gracie's painting ability, do you think she has a painting of herself hidden away somewhere like Dorian Grey?

Julie..apologies to Adolfo...I just can't. Maybe Ramon. Then, again..also ..no.

I know that NoJuan/SomeLips has to die, but I can't figure how he gets caught. Carito. Nah, nobody even believes a famous Mouse, right Mickey?, so she is out.

Perla could try, even if she was angry or afraid enough to do it, she just does not have the cerebral horsepower to do so She's a life support system for a pair of panties. and doesn't seem adept at much else.

Kirby..yes, Marked would have sung like canary and implicated his old buddy if he had not been shot right between the eyes by that sharp shooter Gut. I guess it has to be Carito or Perla who turns on him eventually. Maybe he kills Carito and that is the last straw on Perla's back.

Kirby, I think all you did was clean the fire ants' oven.

Gracie with a Dorian Grey painting... shudder... now there is something I would not want to find in my closet.

If Perla wants to dump Juan (a big if), she will probably go running to Carito, who might be able to convince her to do the right thing. However, in spite of her little remark to Juan last night, I can't imagine Perla leaving him. She likes being comfortable and she's always believed that Juan was her ticket to the good life. I can't imagine her mustering the courage or even the motivation to inconvenience herself that way.

On the other hand, she was looking for a job. So maybe she's thinking about making a change.

WHAT....IF....Mark..(ed man) suspected something was up and left some incriminating evidence which Soo-Sane and Sieze her will discover when they go through his things. Hey, maybe that could actually be plausible, as I don't want to hang all our hopes on Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.

Juan has expressed before that there was absolutely no evidence that could point to him. But that seems virtually impossible to me.

Mark didn't trust Juan. I'm sure he did everything he could to make sure he had some "insurance" to take Juan with him. Again, that insurance (like a recorded conversation) could be on Mark's/Perla's phone.

Really, cell phones take all the fun and security out of crime. (Except where they create new ways to commit crimes.)

I just want to thank the recappers who are going to a lot of time and trouble to search for all the missing pieces and recapping two episodes every night! Thank you.

Hey, here,'s an idea. Instead, of dragging tge story out intobso many episodes and then editing the blue blazes out of episodes at the end , why not make FEWER episodes? DUH.

Kirby..when I was a little girl, I stepped on an anthill when I was out in the field with my dad. It was not a good idea, and I never did that again. Ants can be pretty vengeful.

Hereafter I'm calling these insects from Hell here in Sunny Flor-I-Duh Graciella Ants. They leave marks. :-)

Here is an even better idea, I could be wasting my time watching "A Christmas Story", instead of exercising my fertile imagination to depletion on these Nimrods.

But there would not be Retirement parties, Patios and Doritos.

Perla has been crushing on Juan since she was a little girl. What is the age difference? 10 years? She has become his concubine . Did you see that breakfast in bed tray she served him the other day. A bargain was struck between them a long time ago. You buy me pretty things , and I will serve you. What would make Perla turn on him? Perla only cares about two people..Juan and Carito. The only reason that Perla would turn on Juan is if Juan kills Carito. Marked is gone, but Carito could still implicate Juan, and Juanny's got a gun.

Question...Erica told Miguel that she wants to start a family with him, but did she say anything about marriage? Is this another sign of changing times? I just heard of a couple (friends of a friend) who have been together for 20 years, and they might be getting married because she wants to have a baby. Twenty years. Truth can be stranger than telenovelas.

It's more than 10 years. When our story started, I figure Juan was at least 30. Perla couldn't have been more than 12 (I forget - might have been closer to 9 or 10). I don't know how an age difference that large affects the dynamic, but if she looks up to him like a father or authority figure, that does complicate things I guess.

I wasn't listening carefully, but I didn't hear Erica mention marriage. Miguel strikes me as the type who would expect to be married. I wonder if that will be a problem for them.

Delilah: You might get your wish of seeing both Juan & Perla getting whacked. I'd rather see them kill each other.

Perla looked about 9 or ten in the first four episodes. Fifteen years have passed since then. Juan was probably almost 30 in the fist week, along with David. Perla had not lived anywhere else in between, which is the Ick Factor in this relationship.

ICK maybe for U...A man drives what he can afford. That's the only thing i like about ole Lips.

: -) Woof

Steve, who would kill Perla. aside from NoJuan? There are plenty of reasons/people who want to kill NoJuan, but isn't he about the only Juan we could count on to whack Perla.?

I admit it is Ultimas Semanas or soon to be and we have waaaay too many people still alive. Actually almost all them except for BooBee and Tano, come to think of it.

Susanlynn: Yes, it seems that Erica wants to start a family with Miguel and no, I didn't hear anything about marriage, engagement, or anything close. I guess I'm just really old fashioned, I think it's better to start a family AFTER you are married, but some of today's millennials may think otherwise. If Erica lives long enough, I hope they do get married. But they keep doing this thing with her illness that makes me believe that she may die of this unknown disease.

I suppose we should try to keep Luci, but only if she will leave the vineyard from Hell, otherwise if she stays she may as well be dead.

Lillian----------Saute'
Marta----------Bar-B-Que
Dumvid-------Med Rare
FerBrat--------CharBroiled
Graciella-------Don't send her down there it would be a homecoming.

Um......Correct me if I am being overly cautious on Erotika's behalf, but if you have a debilitating illness which causes you to be on first names with the paramedics, should you be getting all pregamalated?

No one can ever leave the vineyard. It's impossible. OK, Juan, Perla, and Mig all managed to do it, but no one else can. Luci tried a couple of times but never quite made it to the end of the driveway. David has found it impossible to get his female in-laws out of there; Fernando left in a box. Carito got out for a while but was drawn back as if snapped by a rubber band. So Luci will be there forever and ever. She might as well marry David if Grace doesn't trick him into it first.

Thanks Julie. I now understand. Eagles Vineyard California I see.

We are programmed to receive.
You can check out any time you like,
But you can never leave!'

They stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can't kill the beast

So I called up the Captain,
'Please bring me my wine'
Said Lillian

Thanks a bunch, Cynthia. I'm late to the party but will enjoy your recap tonight.

Ding dong, skidmark is gone! At least now it looks like Carito will be okay.

Ha!
...and now it's in my head.

Julie..yes, that's it... the vineyard is a vortex that either does not allow people to leave or sucks them back in. Perhaps, we have been looking at this telenovela all wrong. Its sci-fi. The Twilight Zone. Outer Limits. Oh, I hope we get time travel and that we finally can get a look at that randy old player Fernando.

Regarding Erica's sudden announcement to Miguel that she wants to start a family, maybe she had a premonition that she will die and wants to leave behind a grand baby for Adolfo. Maybe she just wants to nail Miguel down because Luci is still buzzing around.

Twilight Zone? Cool, that means evil space robots aren't out of the question. Oh! Maybe when that little boy wishes people away, the vineyard is where they end up? (No, I think that was a cornfield.)

I think either of your theories for Erica are plausible, Susanlynn. Of course, if the baby ends up being the reason Erika dies, then maybe that wasn't such a great plan on her part.

I got a kick out of Cesar shutting Gracie down, and her snarling "Stupid" as he and Soosan walked away. Gracie just has no pride when it cones to getting Dave. What part of NO doesn't this woman understand? I think that she thinks that eventually she will just wear Dave down. She is wearing me down. It's like when your kid asks you for the 33 time in half an hour if he or she can have a cookie, and you finally say " okay, okay, I give up...have the damn cookie!!!!!"

Julie...I think that we are on to something here. We could write the very first sci-fi telenovela . Have your people call my people. We'll do lunch. Ciao.

Sci-fi novelas don't work. Sci-fi has no emotion and that = no drama.

DisGrace thinks she will wear David down, but if she does it will be a pyrrhic victory. She won't be happy at all and will have destroyed everything. But since so many of you think David is an idiot I suppose that idea has some fans.

Urban..Grace is the type of person who will never be happy no matter what she has or whom she is with.

Sci fi has no emotion and no drama? Perhaps that depends on what you consider an emotion.

I am disappointed that David makes so many wrong choices. I don't want to think he's an idiot, and I don't understand why he was written that way. It's unnecessary. He can get into plenty of trouble even when he makes the right choices, if his opponent is wiley enough - and Grace is. It would be easier to admire him and to root for him if we thought he was reacting appropriately.

I look forward to Grace's downfall. Whatever happens to her, it may well be something she does to herself (like freaking out over Lisa's phone as Urban suggested). If she is taken down by other people, I hope it is a combined effort and I REALLY hope Fernanda has a hand in it somehow.

And if I'm having fantasies of mass destruction, it's because a) maybe that's what it takes to get David to snap into Galan Mode, and b) it would be a nice payback for the sluggish pacing we had to sit through earlier.

Yeah I hope so too Julie. In contrast to SkidMark which was a nice clean mercy killing. I couldn't have done better. :-) I'm still bemused the bullet did not exit the rear to ding that wine vat.

OTOH, I saw a few Star Trek episodes with that numbers girl where there was something that passed for emotion.

They called her 7of11...No no it was 6 of nine. Yeah just looked it up.

I still am hoping for Lil and Grace to turn on each other. Maybe have Lil be first to find out DisGrace killed Lisa and wigg out on her.

DisGrace is far more evil than Lillian, but my money is on Lillian because evil is only part of the equation. I think Lillian is a far more effective implementer.

A big gun with poor aim vs a smaller weapon in the hands of someone skilled.

just saying

Can someone explain how mark was the only one blamed for the trafficking. Didn't Carlito know that mark was in on it. ....but she said nothing about that to the police.

Nett

Hah, Seven of Nine, she certainly provoked some emotions! Someone get that girl a nice baggy sweatshirt!

The bullet did not exit Mark's head because of its great density. Just solid bone all the way through except for a tiny core of Silly Putty.

I don't want guns used against Grace. It's too quick. If all she ever did was kill her sister, that would be bad enough; but what she's doing to Fernanda puts her into a whole different category.

Hi Nett, Juan turned Mark in for all of the crimes and he may even have falsified some evidence against him. Carito didn't say anything against Juan because she didn't want to get her friend Perla into trouble.

Currently Gutierrez has no evidence against Juan, so he can't do anything. However, for all we know, he might have suspicions, and those suspicions might be confirmed if someone will look through Mark's belongings. (Susan would probably rather set fire to them.)

I am starting to get an antimarriage vibe. This telenovela has had only one happy marriage..Dave and Lisa. Two runaway wives..... Adolfo and Ramon. A sour, bitter widow whose hubby cheated on her. A widow who was separated from her husband for years when he was deported and who had an affair. Another recent widow of an abuser who does not want to get married. Lots of single people...Tano,Cubby, Sonia, Cesar, Perla, Juan, fern. A young single woman who wants a family but doesn't seem to expect\want marriage. So who are the writers? In addition to having all failed their SATs, are they all single or divorced? I am starting to wonder if we will gave any weddings in this finale. I am getting a very strong feeling that the message here is not about love, romance, or marriage. So..what is the message? Got wine?

Julie...yeah, who wants to touch Mark stuff. Ew....Mark kooties.

Julie...ha..yes, Mark was a bonehead, for sure.

You recappers work so hard, thank you!

Did anyone else notice the yelling at Mark was in Spanish? Dave tried a few phrases in English, but most of the pleading and screaming was in Spanish. Oh, Brian spoke English, he was the Skidmark Whisperer .

I've come up with a good ending for DisCrazy. She starts painting again with some highly flammable paints. Just then her Samsung device has an incoming face-time call. She puts it up to her face, and ba-bam! Up in flames goes her hair and her makeup.

L. Linda

Am not a fan.
Come episode 112.

Good recap Cynthia, you made it bearable girl. Thank you.

Juls-where did you see the "Foot"ish painting? Lol.

Yeah but Lurking Linda where she came from is a 'Helluva' lot hotter than a S7 battery could ever dream of.

But I do like it.

Something which DISfigures DisGrace for life, as she seems to believe her looks are her strong suite.

" So who are the writers? In addition to having all failed their SATs, are they all single or divorced?"
they would have to be a LOTS better at Something than they are at writing TNs or I can see them alone.

Awesome, Linda :-) A burn makes sense for her, and there's symbolism there too.

Nina, the foot painting was in an early episode, I think after Luciana returned to the vineyard but before Gracie did.

I had a Sonoma chardonnay with my dinner. I don't like chardonnay much, but it was the only Sonoma wine they had. It was Chalk Hill or Chalk Canyon or some chalky thing. It wasn't bad.

About the anti-marriage thing, remember in TVA that AnaLu and Santi didn't get married either. That's because AnaLet was still alive, of course, but if this had been five years ago I'll bet you anything they would have killed AnaLet off and made a big deal with a double-wedding.

I'll also bet that there's a "story behind the story" of Juan's father's suicide that Juan doesn't know. Why do I think so? Because his whole life revolves around that story. With his dying breath he will find out that it wasn't what he thought at all.

Actually, I'm sure he's already been told. It's just that he can't handle the truth.
