Caray, Caray!

Valentina is sitting waiting for her mother in a hotel lobby with her suitcase all packed. She listens to her dad on her phone saying that he will come and get her but does not answer. Finally, Valentina gets up and goes to see the desk clerk and asks to call the room of Sra. Goyeneche. The desk clerk tells her that she has checked out a couple of hours ago with her companion but she did leave a note for Valentina. It says: "Forgive me, daughter. I really thought it over and you are going to be better off with your father. Kisses, Mommy." Valentina puts down the note and calls her dad.

A completely depressed Valentina is driving home with Jorge. Jorge doesn’t need to hear anything from her. The important thing is that she reconsidered and that they are going home. Jorge tells her that the next time she doesn’t understand something to just remember that whatever he does, he does for her and her brother’s own good. He adds that he does not say it often or enough, because he was never taught to do it, but she and her brother are his children and he loves them. Valentina can only cry. They are the most important things that he has.


Mauricio is putting Anifer to bed and she wants him to tell her a story. Mauricio is not quite up for that. Anifer decides that she will tell him a story so he lays his head on her stomach like a kid and listens. Once upon a time, there was a king and and his daughter. He eats something bad and he dies. Mauricio tells her not to worry about him. The king is perfect and at the height of his strength. He then apologizes for having her hide in the bathroom when the ”girl” came over to play. It was really a bad thing for him to do. He shouldn’t try to hook up with somebody at the house when she is home. Anifer does not hear that part because she is already asleep and snoring. He kisses her goodnight.

Renée is still out in the street arguing with Lupe. His movers are now just standing around watching the spectacle.. He says that she cannot even swear that she is not interested in Mauricio. She tells him that she doesn’t have to swear about anything to anybody. It is all about what he did to her neighbors. For the umpteenth time he tells her that he didn’t do anything whether she believes him or not. She says she just does not know him. He tells her to just stop imagining things. He has had enough. To him it is so clear that she really has it for Mauricio. She lives her life at his beck and call and just uses his daughter as an excuse. In the end she does everything for Mauricio. What is worse is that she doesn’t dare tell him to his face. Renée asks him if he is so sure that she is in love with another, why does he want to live with her? He cannot believe she is asking him that. From high school on, he has just been waiting for her to pay attention to him. Now that they are together and going to the USA, he is supposed to put her on a silver platter so any old Don Juan can take advantage of her. Renée cannot believe what she is hearing. Lupe tries to explain he is there to take care of her and so absolutely nobody takes what is his. The movers like that line but Renée doesn’t. Renée has to respond to that because he thinks that she is his prize or his trophy and if he is saying what she thinks he is saying. He interrupts her to make it clear. He wants her to understand that she has always been the love of his life and for that reason he is going to defend her and protect her from womanizers like her boss whether she likes it or not. Lupe asks why does she need him to defend her. Is she stupid or what? Of course not. He never said that. What he wants her to get straight in her pretty little head is that he is the only man who really loves her, that can protect her and thanks to him she can do her master’s studies in the USA. Can she understand that? No, she cannot. She understands him now less than ever. Fortunately for her, she has discovered that he is not the person that she thought he was. The movers interrupt the fight by asking if the mattress goes in or stays outside. They also want to know about the really heavy desk. Is it going or staying? Renée tells them to put it all back in the truck. Lupe tells them no and says if she doesn’t want him to move in with her today he can come back another time. Renée makes it clear that she does not want to go out with him, be his friend or anything. They are over.

Samuel is knocking at Valentina's bedroom door but she is not answering. Jorge tells him to leave his sister alone. Samuel is upset because nobody tells him anything about what is going on. Jorge will tell him later. Samuel wants to know what is going on right now with his mother. He knows that Valentina saw her. Jorge explains that it is all a misunderstanding. He sends Samuel to his room to sleep. Samuel is sick of being treated like a little kid. Jorge reminds him he still is a little kid.

The argument in the street continues as the movers have packed up the truck. Lupe is complaining that Renée just can’t tell him to get lost like that. She needs to remember everything that he has done for her and now she is treating him like this. Renée thinks this is just the right time to end things peacefully. Lupe reminds her that she promised her mother that she was going to give him a chance to court her. Renée says that she never promised her mother any such thing. Their relationship just hasn’t worked. This whole thing just does not make sense. It makes sense to Lupe and she is going to realize that when she is more alone than ever. She will have lost the support of the only man that can make her happy and she does not even realize that. Her mother would just up and die again out of shame if she saw how foolish her daughter was acting and how selfish and inconsiderate she was. She only thinks of herself. Mauricio comes out of his house and is attracted to Lupe’s shouting.

Renée turns to leave when Lupe grabs her by the arm and swings her back around. She tells him to let her go. He insists that she is going to stay and listen to what he has to say. She insists that she is not going to listen to his silliness. She has told him everything that she has to say. When Lupe grabs Renée a second time, Mauricio makes the time-out sign and decides he has to step in. He separates them and tells Lupe to take his hands off of Renée because that is not what you do to ladies. Lupe asks if Mauricio wants him to split his face in half. Mauricio doesn’t but the real question is if Renée is going to be the one to do it because if he doesn’t have a scalpel, it is going to really be difficult. Renée thanks Mauricio and tries to get them both to calm down. Lupe calls her pathetic if she thinks thinks “little junior” is interested in her. He is interested in her backside and nothing else. Mauricio takes exception with that and says he is asking for a “fist taco”. He punches Lupe in the face and knocks him on his butt. As Mauricio is rubbing his fist, Lupe arises and the fight is on. Renée cannot break it up. The movers are enjoying the show and placing bets with each other. Soon, Jorge, Nerón, Toño and Verónica have all run out of their houses to see what is going on. Nerón and Jorge break them up. Verónica attends to Renée. Before you know it, Nerón has to be held back from Lupe as he wants to beat him up because he is insulting his goddaughter Renée. Lupe tells Mauricio that for getting involved in something that was not his business, Renée will treat him worse than that guy she left at the altar. Lupe then tells Renée that she better hold on because with this guy she is going to be paid back for not appreciating those who really loved her,like him and that guy Alejandro that she left at the altar. Lupe finally wrestles himself free and leaves with the movers. Renée checks with Nerón and Mauricio that they are okay. All that Verónica can say is that it was a horror show and they were like dogs.

At Jorge's the next morning, Valentina has fixed them all breakfast. She got up early to do it. Her brother is taking a bath so she wants to take advantage of that to talk to her dad alone. She apologizes for everything she did. She never will lie to him again. He can tell that she is talking from her heart. She also tells him that whenever she has “escaped” she has never done anything bad. She has had a little bit of alcohol to drink but she has never gotten drunk. Jorge says he believes her and thank her for telling him. He asks why she called her mom and what was she looking for from her. Valentina admits that he is just too controlling but she knows that he really loves her, not like that witch of a mother she has and she is a liar. She also now thinks that her mother made up all of that stuff about Yuriria. Jorge says that that is an adult subject not to be discussed with her. She understands. He also says that eventhough he and her mother are fighting, he does not want her talking anout her mother like she was. Valentina promises him not to give him any problems. Jorge thanks God.

Mauricio is at a meeting of the board where he finds out that they are only interested in the chicken prototype. It has a lot of potential or “eggs” jokes Mauricio. They all have a good laugh with the double entendre joke. Mauricio is surprised they are not interested in any of the edgier ideas since the chicken has already been out on the market. Falcón feels that with the right development and marketing the ”chicken 2.0” can “get flying” again. Mauricio accuses him of lying when it comes to allowing him to be in charge of the creative decision making. Falcón reminds him that they want successes, a benefit, sales, so what is he to do? This is how things work. Mauricio should not be offended but Mauricio is not on the patio of his house playing with his little designs. Mauricio agrees it is not his patio but it is his house, the legacy of his family and they are all just guests. He takes his chicken prototype and leaves the room.

Mauricio leaves the office to share his tale of woe of how they all chose the chicken to be developed with Gladys. Fabián joins them and says that at least they are choosing one of his projects to succeed. Mauricio wants to put out something new that wasn’t pretty much a failure already. Mauricio suddenly has lots of ideas and thinks that Falcón should try something new or let them do it. Maybe they could work with other companies. Fabián tells him he knows nothing about royalties and it could be a real mess. Whatever the case, Mauricio is going to talk to their lawyers. Mauricio says they need to be signed up for the next toy show. He has to know where and when it is. Mauricio is clearly excited, Fabián to so much. Gladys reminds him that the photo shoot for the magazine “Estelares” (The Stellar One’s) is for today and it cannot be postponed. They publish tomorrow. Faced with the lack of enthusiasm from Fabián and Gladys, Mauricio asks Anifer what she thinks. If they do the photo shoot and talks at the toy show Maybe somebody will want their new projects. That is what Mauricio wants to hear.

Mauricio sends Anifer off with Gladys as they both audibly moan about being stuck with the other. Fabián asks Mauricio if he fought for Renée because he really likes her. Not at all. There wasn’t even a kiss on the cheek. What is urgent is that he get Anifer into school. She cannot be at work with him all day long.

Renée shows up at a restaurant to share a meal with Lupe. He is in a good mood and invited her to come. He is surprised that she didn’t stand him up after last night. In spite of everything, she wants to end things on a good note with him. She was thinking about last night and thinks she owes him an apology. He asks if it would be for breaking up with him. No, it is because she never should have started anything with him in the first place. It is no excuse but with the death of her mother, he consoled her, he talked to her and that is where she got confused. He always thought that she would have been happy to end up together. Beyond what happened between them, she thinks he is an honorable man and it is a shame things ended up like they did between them. What he can assure her is that he always wanted the best for her and her mother. For that reason, Renée is going to always be grateful for how he supported them and tried to help her mom. The hard truth of the matter is that they were never meant to be a couple. It is not for them. Lupe’s smile disappears. He says okay and it is good that she has clarified the situation for him. He only wanted her to know that he is going ahead with his plans for his internship. It is a good opportunity for him. Renée is very happy for him. She congratulates him. As he gets up and throws some bills on the table, he tells her that he is going to be traveling soon, so he would like her to return the 50,000 pesos ($2,665) he loaned her for her mother’s funeral ASAP. Renée is surprised and calls him back to talk to him but he has left. She wasn’t expecting to have to pay back the money so sooN.

Verónica calls Toño to tell him she has a meeting and will be home late. They are both at work. He tells her to not let them take advantage of her or she won’t be able to deal with the pace. She is just happy to be able to start paying a bit over the min um payment on their credit cards. She is wondering if his job at the publishing house is permanent or temporary. Toño still does not know. She has to go. She has to prepare for a meeting. He has to go, too. He has a bunch of things he has to get done. He’ll see her later. He loves her. He puts his head down on his desk. After hearing him on the phone, one of his co-workes comes over to make fun of Toño talking to his wife. Was his wife checking on him? Toño tells him that she doesn’t do those things. She is a real woman like they don’t make anymore. She lives her life taking care of him, the house and his children. Toño then thinks back to the same scene of his father from the past but then focuses on a new scene where his mother is telling him he is the handsomest novio ever and if Verónica is the daughter-in-law she expects, they are all going to be very happy. However, if Verónica doesn’t look after him as God demands, she is going to find out how it is to have a bad mother-in-law.

Verónica starts doing some research on line on Toño's new company when the secretary comes in and says that the boss needs to talk to her. It is something serious. Verónica is worried.

Pablo shows Nerón the envelope from the last letter he got from his father and they look at the cancelled stamp. Nerón concludes that his father must be working where the stamp was cancelled so it is a good start. Pablo asks if Nerón thinks that he could find him. Before he can answer, Flor arrives with Milady. Nerón tells her there hasn’t been much work. Talking about work, Flor is all excited. She got a call from an agency for an audition for a photo shoot she knows absolutely nothing about. Nerón sends Pablo off to work so he can talk alone with her. He is not happy about her knowing nothing about the job. She is just happy that she can earn something so she can start fixing up the house and having some money for expenses.

Back at the office, Mauricio is with Anifer as he is searching for the International Toy Show. Anifer tells him that she is happier to be with him than Gladys. He finds out it is in Miami. The bad thing is that it is taking place very soon. He has to go no matter what. No, Anifer cannot come. She has to go to school and have anormal life for a little girl. She reminds him that he promised that he was not going to leave her alone again. He must have forgotten already. Mauricio says no. He will find someone to stay with her. She needs to have some confidence in him. It is only for three days. Gladys comes in to announce that Mauricio has a visitor but the guards won’t let the person in if Mauricio does not approve. He looks puzzled.

Fabián talks to Jorge in his office about legal information they need if Logatoys decides to associate with other compamies in toy production. They need it right away. Jorge asks Fabián if he has any information on Anifer’s mother like when, where and how she died. They are going to need that information for Mauricio to give her his last name. Fabián looks like he has no idea when Jorge’s phone rings. He has to answer and Fabián leaves reminding him he needs the legal info ASAP.

Jorge answers his phone. It is Yuriria. (We see a photo of her and two children) She apologizes for not getting back to him sooner. She did call but he never answered her message. She didn’t want to push it. He assures her he will always call her back when he can. He asks how she is. She says she is fine. Does she want the money he sends her earlier? He can arrange it. No, she can wait until the first of the month. She wants him to tell her why he called her. (She sounds fine but we see that she is very ill.)

Renée has stopped by Mauricio's office to thank him for coming to her aid her last night. It is clearly difficult for her to be there and she is reluctant to talk to him at first. Mauricio tells her that he has no idea about what the first guy did to deserve to be left at the altar but this loser would cause her to be a runaway bride. She tells him that it really is not any of his business but Lupe is now history. She does not want to talk to him or see him again. Mauricio agrees because of how aggressive he is but also about his illusions. How could he ever believe that she and he(Mauricio) had something going? They both scoff at that idea and go on and on about why they would never/could never be together. Renée stops the craziness and says she is also there because she needs to work. If they are still re-hiring, she is willing to work for less pay and less hours. She excuses herself and turns to leave when Mauricio says he thinks he has something for her but not at the company. It would be involved in something that is of high interest to both of them. Does she want to live at his house with Anifer and him? She can rent her house and make some money and help him with Anifer. She is adamant about wanting to design and manufacture toys. She does not want to wash clothes and make food for him. He knows and he would be happy to offer her a job ay the company but he is no longer the decision maker at there. Now a council is running things and has the final say. Anyway, he is short of cash. It would only be temporary until this crisis passes. She knows how to cook, right, and not make the kind of sandwiches he is allergic to. She will have to think about it. He thinks it would be good for her to live with Anifer and save on expenses. She would have time to work on her master’s. She wants to know how he knows about that. He shows her the university pamphlet she dropped and reminds her that she wanted a loan for her master’s when she came for her interview. She even had a payback plan for loan. She understands but still is not happy with him sticking his nose in her business. Mauricio agrees he is nosy but with good intentions. Renée reminds him that there are people who are specialists in caring for children. Mauricio asks who is he going to trust after what happened with the nun. He would only leave Anifer with somebody who he had total confidence in and who she liked a lot. Renée agrees that she would do it ...for Anifer but she cannot give him an answer right here on the spot. Mauricio explains that he is under a time constraint since he has to go out of the country very soon and he cannot leave Anifer alone. He really needs an answer now. He asks her to say yes. It won’t cost her anything.

Jorge continues talking to Yuriria. He called her because he wants to see her and tell her a lot of things. The most important thing is that he needs her in his life. She does not want to get involved in his marriage. A long time ago they decided to leave things as they were. He explains that he and Dulce are separated and are in the process of getting a divorce. Yuriria says that doesn’t change what they have between them. Are they okay? Jorge tells her that she does not know how much he misses her. She has no idea how much he needs a woman in his life and that woman is her. Suddenly she has to go and says if he could deposit the money now that would be just great if it is not too much of a bother. Jorge does not know what to make of her. Is that all she is going to say? He was expecting something more from her. She cuts it short by wishing him a good day and hangs up.

Back at Mauricio's office He asks Renée if she is going to think about it there or get back to him later. Renée was at first offended by his offer but is impressed that he has so much confidence in her. Mauricio quickly explains that that is Anifer’s doing. Renée is also quick to agree. Mauricio says eventhough they can barely put up with each other, Anifer is more important than they are. Renée likes that he is putting Anifer before himself. He is learning how to be a good father. Mauricio says it is the least that he could do. Renée is still not sure because of wanting to get her master’s degree. Mauricio promises her money in the future from Logatoys (payment for her master’s and a subsequent job from which her tuition could be deducted) which he is sure will arise from the ashes. Heck, he is going to a toy show and he is going to be ”John Travolta” (he does his Travolta imitation so he probably means “impressive”.) She does not know what to do because it isn’t only the master’s but she has a lot of other debts. . . Gladys comes in and interrupts telling Mauricio it is time for the photo shoot.

Nerón is still at the garage talking to Pablo. He asks to see Pablo’s envelope from his dad. Nerón says that he is going to show it sometime to his goddaughter Renée who is really good on the internet and maybe she can help them. Pablo thanks him and tells him he must be the best dad ever. He should have more kids so Milady has a sibling. Nerón is not too sure about that but then describes his grown sons as half wits but good boys. He supported them all by working hard and his wife Carmelita seeing to them. Nerón then thinks back to his life when his boys were young and sought his attention. He missed a lot of time with his sons because of all of the hours he put in at Logatoys and how it tired him out. His wife Carmelita had to pick up the slack. Nerón tells Pablo that he hasn’t seen his sons in a while. They are probably really angry with him. Pablo suggests that he call them. Nerón is not too sure since he insists they must still be angry.

We see the preparation for the photo shoot. Mauricio helps Anifer with her expressions since she has never taken photos before.

Flor and Milady are outside of a building standing in line waiting to audition for the photo shoot job. A guy comes out and calls her to come inside. She is happy she is being called so soon. She carries Milady up the stairs to the entrance. The guy asks her if she has worked nude before. He shows her an example photo. She is suddenly concerned if the photos are going to be kept private; that they will be classy and artistic. He assures her of all those things. She decides if the Angel of Independence and Diana the Huntress can be naked and nobody says anything, why not her?She has the guy carry Milady’s stroller up the stairs.

The Logatoy photo shoot is on with Mauricio and Anifer. They play around like two kids.

Mauricio talks to Fabián who doesn’t understand why they took the photos. Mauricio insists that they have to have a good image especially after what Renée did with the press. Fabián now remembers what his favorite neighbor did. Mauricio thinks the photos will make an good impression in the article with the ladies as he will be the “#1 super desirable hot daddy”. Fabián says some things never change. He asks if Mauricio is still going to the toy show. He tells Mauricio that he had better consult with Falcón because the trip won’t pay for itself.

Verónica talks to her boss. It turns out that she is overqualified for her present posiion. She never should have been hired as an engineer. From today on, she is the Director of Innovation and Systems. . . if she wants the job.
