La Usurpadora - Capitulo 15 - "Denial ain't just a river in Egypt"

So Carlos is in Paulina’s room excitedly announcing that he will travel with her to Colombia. Paulina either panics or also has a secret crush on Carlos, because she does a very poor job of coming up with any excuses at all, and ends up acquiescing to his request. Not only that, but Carlos ends up inviting himself to sleep in one bed with her (because “while he has no problem falling asleep, he does not want to sleep alone”), but promises to behave. They are found still lounging in bed in the morning by Lisette (already made up with her goth style lipstick and eye shadow), who runs downstairs to inform the early bird breakfast crew – Piedad and Arcadia. Arcadia is over the moon, but Piedad looks less than pleased with this news. It doesn’t help that Carlos arrives and reveals their mutual travel plans.

Paulina, meanwhile, chats with Monse about the predicament of having Carlos sleep in her bed. She denies that anything happened, because she “is with Facundo”, however complains that she couldn’t do anything to prevent it from happening for fear of arousing suspicions. Monse is amazed that Paulina has two men fighting for her. Monse herself, she explains, has been on a romantic diet for a while. Paulina seems less than happy with her newfound popularity.

She then calls Nava and spoils his day by explaining that they will have a third wheel and now everything is more complicated: their secret mission to find Paola and attempts to see Paulina’s mother. They will have to figure something out, not to mention there won’t be any time alone. What could she do, says Paulina, she tried and tried, but Carlos was insistent. (Um…to an untrained eye it seems like she could have done almost anything other than the nothing she did, which may have increased her chances of success in not bringing Carlos along. Incidentally it is also interesting that the President’s itinerary is so free that he can just take a trip on a whim. )

Back in Bogota Paola is still basking in the post-Wilson glow back at his apartment, while Wilson is still unsuccessfully trying to assimilate all of this into his apparently very space-constrained brain. Paola wisely tells him to get over it and to get rid of this look of an idiot, lest it stays with him for his whole life. (For once we agree with Paola, but must say – already too late for that advice…). Wilson wants to know what happens if he doesn’t agree to stand by her side, and Paola tells him she will reveal all she knows about his theft. Wilson begins to promise he will return the money, but Paola informs him of her plan – use the money to go to Mexico!

On her return home Paola gets into an argument with Olga, who is trying to understand why Paola even bothered with this complicated switcheroo, if she will spend her whole time out and drinking. Olga needs to talk to Paulina, and this name alone sends Paola into a frenzy. In the morning Paola is showing the fruits of her shopping endeavors to Olga, who is concerned about the cost. Paola is not worried in the slightest and also shows Olga a jacket she bought for her. Paola helps her put it on and model it, and they have a borderline cute moment, laugh and hug.

Finally the departure day arrives. Monse is promoted to Paulina’s assistant and sent to change out of her nurse uniform. Lis comes to thank Paulina for saving her from a mistake the previous night. And on her way out Paulina manages to evade Manuel, who is very upset he has not been told anything about this trip, and is struggling to piece together any info. Speaking of Manuel, together with Terry they reached a new level of creepiness, where they were holding a conversation while Manuel was showering and drying off with open curtain.

Manuel does manage to find out where Paulina is headed from Arcadia a bit later and quickly runs with this information to Teresa, who thinks they should skip town immediately. Manuel is against this plan, as he assumes they will be caught. Instead he will call the good trusty doctor in Colombia and get him to “take care” of Paulina’s threat. (Possibly by threatening her mother again he imagines?) Terry is against Manuel getting involved in that and for a good reason, because within five minutes of placing a call, Manuel realizes that Paola is alive and in Colombia, and Terry lied to both him and the doctor. He is furious and lifts his hand to hit her, but freezes (no doubt flashbacks of being kicked in his nuts and knocked out coming back to him) and changes his mind. He then calls Olga’s house for “Paulina”, but Paola is not home, so he hangs up. Instead he calls the doctor back and asks him to find “Paulina” and have her call Manuel back.

Back at her apartment, Gema is perusing daily news and sees the photo of Carlos with the ambassador and their wives at dinner. This pushes her to return the call of those businessmen, who were offering her a job. She meets with them for lunch and, while flirting, one of them explains to her why Carlos giving Fangul thre green light for that construction was a mistake. In fact it’s a ticking time bomb, which will not be good for the President. Gema tries to call Carlos with this info as soon as she finishes the meeting, but he screens her call, as he is with Paulina at that moment.

In Colombia Paola sees the same news story and has another one of her “I hate Paulina” psychosis attacks, breaks a few photos, throws a few chairs and is finally comforted by Olga.

Paulina arrives in Bogota, with Carlos in tow. She drops him off in the hotel room and goes to strategize with Monse. Monse is to deliver a letter to Olga, while Paulina gives a presentation for some donors (using all of those compartmentalizing skills…) Paulina then calls Nava, tells him she misses him and wishes he was here to help her. He is in Colombia already, incidentally, just not with her as she is unable to shake Carlos. Paulina asks Nava to accompany Monse to her mother’s. Monse and Nava arrive at Olga’s and spend better part of the day waiting for Paola and Wilson to depart. Monse then delivers the letter to (written by Paulina in her own hand) to Olga, instructs her to go to the hotel alone and keep this quiet, then departs. Nava follows Paola and Wilson. It doesn’t even occur to Olga to question a perfect stranger (suppose if it did, she wouldn’t be now living with one), so she gets her purse and goes.

Paola and Wilson, meanwhile, go to the bank and clear out the foundation’s account. Nava watches them exit and calls Paulina, who says she has just been thinking about him. He tells her about his spying activity and asks to see her in the evening. She disappoints him and declines, as she already agreed to a dinner with Carlos.

Another tearful mother-daughter reunion is in store for us, but it doesn’t go as successfully as Paulina had planned it. Despite her explaining that Paola is dangerous and tried to kill her, Olga refuses to believe it and thinks that all Paola needs is some love. If Paola wanted to kill Paulina, she’d be dead, but here she is! - declares Olga, who has already filed a change of address card to Denial Land. Paulina is so happy with this newly acquired family, which is what she always wanted, but Olga wants more time with Paola. She asks for two more weeks and in this version of TN twilight zone, Paulina agrees. Carlos arrives right then, so they have to cut it short, but decide to meet again soon.

The next day Olga is on her way to see Paulina, while Nava is still watching the house. He sees the evil doctor enter. The doctor delivers the news that Manuel is alive and gives Paola his number. The emotional over-the-phone reunion is cut short also, as Manuel has to give her the bad news – Paulina is in Bogota and came to uncover the truth. Paola realizes where Olga is going and runs out to stop her, but she is caught by Nava, who covers her mouth and drags her back up the stairs. Is a full family reunion in store for us tomorrow? Stay tuned!

Some other events today: Emilio apologizes to the girl he left at the restaurant and they make nice. Turns out Emilio did sign up for classes after all. Diego comes to visit Lis and tells her again she doesn’t need any makeovers. They are having a good time and are observed by an approving Molina. They are caught laughing by Arcadia, who insists this low-level son of the dentist leave immediately, but instead Lis sends Arcadia away. Then she kisses Diego.

Thanks, Ria. Last night's episode sounds complicated to me. So I'm glad to be reading your recap before I view it. My fave:

Paola wisely tells him [Wilson] to get over it and to get rid of this look of an idiot, lest it stays with him for his whole life. (For once we agree with Paola, but must say – already too late for that advice…).

Gees, Paulina let Carlos sleep in her room? I guess she was afraid he'd block her Colombia trip if she got too pushy.

Perversely, I get a kick out of Wilson and Paola emptying the charity's bank account. Paola is a master at causing trouble and has wasted no time screwing over everything dear to Paulina. Come on, Paulina. You are going to have to think devious to take on your loca sis.

Of course the title shone Ria, but so did the entire recap. Your sugar help this medicine go down, and beautifully.

"Back in Bogota Paola is still basking in the post-Wilson glow back at his apartment, while Wilson is still unsuccessfully trying to assimilate all of this into his apparently very space-constrained brain" was my favorite of many.

"It doesn’t even occur to Olga to question a perfect stranger (suppose if it did, she wouldn’t be now living with one)" - so true!

"the fruits of her shopping endeavors" did result in a "a borderline cute moment, laugh and hug". Nice seeing Olga's eyes light up for a bit.

Let's get the most distasteful scene of the night over with. Manny and Ter. A "
new level of creepiness" indeed. There's only one rung lower, any scene involving the toilet so let us hope we will not be subjected to that.

Niecie, I was surprised by Carlos wanting to sleep in Pau's room. He was married to the real "Paola" who would have torn him limb from limb. I think the imposter felt cornered by Carlos and was afraid to do anything to jeopardize the truth. I think she is a dutiful daughter who always did what she was told.

"Monse herself, she explains, has been on a romantic diet for a while". I can't believe no one has noticed this gem.

So happy Pau stonewalled Manuel who is getting nastier by the day.

I suppose every mother wants to believe the best of their child and that Olga is trying to hold onto hope. Unfortunately, there is none there.

Not excited by Pau's "love match" with Nava. I do wish we'd seen more of Pedro and his partner though.

Happy Liz put her nasty nana in her place.

Now that Nava has Paola, what on earth will he do with her?

Thank you Ria. Superb.

Diana

Niecie - I was super surprised she said yes to him sleeping in her room. Seemed like she was uncomfortable to refuse, but he didn't pick up on it. In the morning though she seemed much more comfortable, as she also did in Colombia. And Paulina really does need to up her game on going after Paola. So far all she's done is a whole lotta nothing, but she did quite a few kids in the process. Unfortunately the goods deeds alone won't be sufficient I am afraid...

Diana - that's a very good point on Paulina feeling cornered. She looked it too. And I agree on the surprise element of Carlos even inviting himself. Also, I can't believe no one noticed Monse either! She, along with Pedro, is one of my favorites! I hear you on Nava - it just seems there hasn't been enough character development away from "playboy", and also building the feelings between him and Paulina. I guess it's the downside of such a short novela. Sadly I am even less excited about Carlos.
I wonder what Nava will do with Paola too. Plus it seems like everyone else was meeting up elsewhere, so would he take her there?

Like Diana I enjoyed the brief respite from Paola's nastiness when she had Olga try on a jacket (which seemed far too small) and coached her on how to walk like a model. I dutifully wrote down the Spanish instructions (now if I can only remember them!) but I love the new phrases and vocabulary I'm learning in this show. Plus I'm enjoying the storyline tremendously. For now.

Have to give the Manual actor credit for agreeing to a shower scene. Bless his heart, at his age, he's no Fernando Colunga, and it takes courage to expose yourself like that. I give him major points. He's a fine actor anyway. But that sad scene actually elevated him in my opinion.

Thanks RIA. Always deftly written and very readable.

Ria, thanks.

Busy day. All I can say is Yay! Nava to the rescue!

Thank you so much for the detailed recap. Especially the bold section. But I cannot find any mention of the strange scene where Miguel follows some other dude into a party of men dressed as women (drag queens) and Miguel interrupting what seemed to be a sex scene of the guy who earlier put a pair of high heels into his sack and later turned up in drag. What exactly was the deal that Miguel wanted the guy to agree to? Confused

Anon 5:42, you are reading the “La usurpadora” recap. You want the “El Dragón” recap from Thursday If I remember correctly. Hope this helps.

JudyB - ohh now you made me think of Fernando Colunga :) But it's okay, we have a shirtless galan here that doesn't look half bad... On Paola's instructions: I noticed they were the same ones she gave Paulina when she was training her, except these were presented in a much more peaceful and friendly tone.

Jarifa - yes, yay Nava! Carlos is trying though to....do something. Never know with him, but we'll see where this goes.

Anon 5:42 - I think you may have been trying to post in El Dragon, which is one posting above. It's a bit confusing as I think it just needs a page break to hide the post partially from the main page, which hopefully Rgv Chick can do for us next week! But head on over to ask your question there!

Ria, thanks for yet another sensational recap.. and you did the whole week on your own! I'm sending you a bouquet of flowers and chocolates that are well deserved.

Diana, thank you for pointing out all the great lines; it saves me much time :-)

JudyB, I agree with you and Diana about the welcome respite from Paola's nastiness, but it is so out of character for her. I have serious doubts about her true intentions in being nice to Olga.

Anon 5:42, your question is about "El Dragon, but I'll go ahead and respond here; the strange scene you are referencing is here-- http://caraycaray.blogspot.com/2019/10/el-dragon-10319-4-putting-plans-into.html (fifth paragraph from the bottom).

Ria, good recap.

So glad Paulina got to see n hug mom.
So glad Nava was able to stop what would have been a sad sick situation had Paola been able to catch mom.

Carlos is a sneaky devil. He's tryin to worm his way into paola/pauluna's nether regions. He's full of it. Lots of kinky stuff gonna go down before it
All comes together.

The creepy bro/sis combo won't end well either. They will either end up
Killin each other, or Terry will kill Paola and manny. Whatever, there will be much blood spillage.

ITA, it's to late for Wilson. Wilson is at the top of his class in idiotic
Smarts. He deserves whatever he gets. He's stealing from poor people. Thats
Just sick.

I hope gema can get to Carlos before it is to late. Paulina has Enough to deal with fending off his advances(and y'all know it's gonna be some). He is
Already plotting with "reunited and it
Feels so good"playin in the background NOT! Nava get your lady out of harms way.

Thank you Ria.

Rgv Chick - thank you for answering Anon’s question!!

Nina - as usual, nodded in agreement to your comments. “Reunited and it feels so good in the background” is priceless!!

That line cracked me up as well Ria. Always look forward to Nina's "stream of consciousness" comments.
