Part 1 of 2
Augusto sees something moving under a canvas in a trunk in front of the mechanic shop, decides he needs to figure out what the brothers are up to. He grabs his gun and discovers Don Abel tied up in the trunk. He goes inside the house and manages to help the brothers, by taking Tata by surprise. He is shot in the shoulder during the fight and Tata escapes.
Augusto is taken away in an ambulance, with Victoriana and his daughters following in a car.
They are all very worried! Jesus comes to the hospital, too, and notices how Augusto, surrounded by his daughters, says that he loves them above all else. Light bulb moment!
Adrian realizes that his dog is gone, but no worries, he immediately finds it in Emma’s backyard. But she won’t return the dog, what if he’s lying and the animal is not really his?
Domenica comes out on her balcony, and notices Damian looking back at her. Some light flirting happens, not sure which of the two is falling faster… Domenica has tries to talk to her mother about having problems with her ex, Iker, but Victoriana just said that as long as he didn’t cheat, nothing can be that bad, so Domenica has to do her best to marry the guy. Such an amazing mother…
Mari has a chat with her abuela about love… is there such a thing as a great love? How about her mother and father, why doesn’t she know any details about him? Abuela says this is not her story to tell.
Jesus has decided what their revenge plan should be: each of the brothers will seduce and then abandon one of Augusto’s daughters. Damian has some doubts about Augie being such a bad guy, he did save their lives earlier, but Jesus is adamant: their dying father mentioned the guy’s name and made him promise to get back at him. Aside from using the girls, Jesus also wants to win Augie’s trust because they have to win back everything that the man stole from them, also. Damian says he will “take care” of Domenica, Adrian would like to go after Emma. Jesus doesn’t want Adrian involved, since Augie is a very powerful man. Damian assumes Jesus will go after Carlota, but what will happen with the pretty florist then, what about Mariluz?
When she finds out that Augusto was shot Lupe almost faints. But then Isaia shows up to bother Mari a second time in the episode and after Mari makes it clear she is not planning to ever be with him again and he keeps lying insisting that he will leave his wife and he has no kids, Abuela Chabela chases him away with a broom stick.
Jesus calls Mariluz to ask her out for some coffee, but she says no.
Domenica finds out from Federico that the attack across the street wasn’t an attempted robbery, but an attempted kidnapping: someone tried to take Sam! She goes straight to the mechanic shop and wants to speak to Sam, but he evades her, because he is troubled by Jesus’ decision to go after Augusto’s girls. Damian does want to talk, though, and after Domenica suggests they start over as friendly neighbors, Damian gives her a friendly neighborly kiss on the cheek. Game on!
We notice that Jesus has cameras installed in the shop.
Jesus goes to see Augusto at the hospital and is warned that he and his brothers need to stay away from his daughters. Jesus makes up a lie about the guy who attacked them going after Damian because of some gambling debts, but Augie is all the more decided to keep his girls away from the Guerreros. So now Jesus has a problem, since he doesn’t want Augusto to become his enemy, he needs to win his approval. What to do, what to do?
Part 2 of 2
Lupe and Conchita come to see Augie, too, just as he’s about to leave the hospital with Victoriana. He is happy to see them, Victoriana is as unpleasant as she can be. When they’re gone, Conchita asks her daughter if she still loves Augusto. By her sappy face, it looks like she does.
Augusto sees Beltran, the son of the old shop owner, talk to Jesus. This makes him even more concerned about the brothers.
Jesus has called Beltran to give him the money. But Beltran says his father never had such an amount of cash (about 60k), he suggests they can split it. Their conversation is heard by Federico, who has been sent by Augie. When he goes to tell his uncle what he found out, Augie realizes the money must be the blackmail payout, but the other compromising documents are still missing. He decides to invite the brothers to Victoriana’s birthday party, and while they are there, Fede will go inside the shop and find the evidence they lost.
Mariluz is still searching for a job in her field. But between being refused because she hasn’t graduated yet and being nearly sexually assaulted during a job interview, she doesn’t have much luck. Jesus calls her again, to say that her car is ready and Mariluz goes to get it.
After Jesus has to insist a bit and they end up almost kissing, Mariluz accepts to go out with Jesus on Saturday. Carlota sees them from her balcony. She is happy the neighbors are coming to the party, and since she has prepared them some muffins, she offers to go invite them herself, even as Augusto tries to stop her from doing it. When Fede suggests that Augie could use the girls against the Guerreros, Augie goes ballistic. Not HIS daughters! Never!
Carlota just walks into the house and finds Jesus half naked. She’s come to bring some muffins and invite the guys to a party. But Jesus tells her she shouldn’t have come, they are all men living alone, she is placing herself into a very compromising position. Carlota storms out and gets back home saying she hates muffins, while throwing them at Augie and Victoriana (LOL). Augie goes to see what happened and Jesus, who wanted exactly this, tells Augusto he couldn’t accept Carlota’s gift after he promised Augie to stay away from his daughters. He is nothing if not a man of his word. Augusto is impressed, maybe he misjudged them after all. How about if they come to his wife’s party on Saturday?
Jesus decided this will be the perfect opportunity to start their revenge plan.
It will be interesting to watch Augusto and Jesus trying to outsmart each other. Jesus has the upper hand as long as his true identity remains hidden, but he will have to be very clever to go up against such a devious man as Augusto.
Gracias Adriana, for this fun and snappy recap!! I agree it will be interesting to see Jesus and Augusto go head to head. Hopefully Jesus can remain level headed and strategic instead of getting emotional and making mistakes...we shall see.
No surprised I loved the Carlota baking scenes and her throwing muffins at Victoriana was so funny!!! I bet that was really fun to do as an actress!!
It's interesting Beltran's son wanted to split the money. Two honest men debating what to do with 60K, you take it, no you take it! That wouldn't happen often in real life.
Emma was rude when she said that Adrian wouldn't be allowed to have a dog as an orphan. How does she even know that? Is that common knowledge on the streets of Mexico? I wouldn't have known such a thing...poor Adrian. But she did ultimately do the right thing. I mean the dog went running to him it was pretty obvious that was his dog.
Conchita going after Isaia was wonderful!! I definitely wouldn't have tried to stop her or calmed her down. You get him granny!!! He deserves it for sure, bad penny!!! Go away!
I think the actor who plays Tata must be really good because every time he says 'animal' I want to punch him in the face!!!
Micaela goes to Mariluz and offers her the job for tonight only! It’s one day only but it will pay really well, Mari is in!
Don Abel has all the Guerrero guys sitting around the kitchen table giving them a speech about how they have to prove to the ladies that even if they aren’t in their social class they are dignified and worthy of them. Samuel is sitting with his knees up against the table loudly sipping his juice box and wiping his mouth on his hand, just to prove Abel wrong!!! Watch his face when Damian takes his juice box from him and he just grabs another one defiantly!! Then again when Damian gives it back and he's double fisting his juice boxes, so funny! (Jesus says it will be a miracle if Abel can transform these nuckleheads into gentlemen by tonight and it would definitely take a miracle in the real world but this is novelaland so I’m sure they will be 4 prim and polished Senors by 7pm sharp)
Mariluz calls Jesus to postpone their date and he’s disappointed but he understands when she says it’s for a job. He begs for tomorrow instead and she agrees. He says he’ll be counting the hours and she says, me too.
Carlotta is going through Domenica’s room and tossing all her clothes about creating an absolutely disaster as she choses a dress for the party. Domi comes in disconcerted because she thought she’d be bringing Carlotta a dress; but nope Carlotta wants to chose herself. She chooses the dress Domi herself was going to wear, and then takes off leaving her sister to clean up the mess.
Emma is choosing a dress too and her buddy is helping her. She wants to talk about Adrian coming to the party but all her friend wants to talk about is Rodrigo. Emma is bored and she needs a friend that actually pays attention to what she says.
Adrian confirms with Jesus that he is going to the party too and Jesus agrees but tells Adrian to remember he’s not part of the plan so he wants him to stay away from Emma. Adrian feels like Jesus isn’t treating him as part of the family but Jesus says because they are family, he wants to protect him.
Emma goes to share her excitement with her mommy (I don’t know why, she’s a wicked witch.) The witch goes off on how horrible Emma’s dress is – I thought it was cute – and how hopeless she is. Emma tries to hug her mom but she tells her to go check her sugar and leave her alone. She’s not going to ruin her party with one of her crises.
Next Don Abel shows up with suits for the boys and what follows is the elder Guerrero boys being getting ready and we see both Jesus and Damian showering. I thought it was hilarious how Jesus and Damian were going about getting ready like adults while Samuel and Adrian were just hanging out like kids and had to be told to go get ready. (Although the part of them getting told was cut)
Augusto calls Frederico and makes sure he’s ready to break in as soon as the boys come to the party. Victoriana brings Augusto wine and he has to be coached to pay attention to her.
Downstairs everyone is ready and Mariluz is admiring it all. Conchita calls and wants it described to her even. Lupe doesn’t look amused. In fact, she’s pissed. But Mari is still looking on with admiration – for how Augusto is such a loving father she wishes she had a father like him.
Los hermanos Guerrero arrive and it’s all eyes on them! Victoriana is very impressed and wants to know who are these classy men, but she’s turned off when she learns they are the mechanics from across the street. Jesus introduces himself and kisses her hand. Damian introduces himself and does a little magic trick handing her a rose to the amusement of all and the applause of Domenica. Adrian and Samuel are smart enough not to approach.
Mariluz is dismayed to see Jesus in attendance. Carlota immediately approaches and kisses Jesus’ cheek which Mari likes even less. Samuel waves to Domenica who waves back and Emma and Adrian are all eyes and smiles. Damian gives Domenica a sly look and a blown kiss and she rolls her eyes but smiles. Emma definitely notices the flirting between Domi and Damian.
Jesus introduces Adrian to Augusto and Augusto says ‘So you’re also a Guerrero’ and Adrian says ‘Yes, sir, we have the same blood’ Which apparently was a sufficient answer to Augusto but it sounds strange to me, I think I would have gotten suspicious from that.
Mariluz is trying to compose herself in the kitchen, she remembers Jesus telling her she’s the only one he cares about but that sure doesn’t seem to be what she is seeing happening right outside that kitchen door. Jesus is a liar!! But she won’t let him get to her; she tries to convince herself.
Lupe knows Mari shouldn’t be there and she demands answers from her mom who tries to calm her down. It doesn’t work, Victoriana just threatened her family earlier and Lupe isn’t going to leave Mari there unprotected and at the mercy of that woman!
Victoriana is disappointed that Domi’s fiancée, Iker, isn’t there, they could have announced the engagement at the party, it would be perfect! Domi deflects and says they wouldn’t have wanted to steal her thunder, it’s her day. Next Victoriana, loudly and rudely makes fun of the same ‘mechanics’ she was gaping at minutes earlier before she knew who they were. Damian comes over to complement the sushi and Domi is amused. Emma’s friends arrive and mommy tells her to hurry and run and greet them. She makes a snide comment about Emma’s friends having class loud enough for the Guerreros to hear her thus proving she herself has no class.
Jesus and Carlota are having matching martini’s and chatting while Augusto checks in with Frederico making sure he’s ready to enter the shop. Valero is getting ready to leave for his date but he gets a phone call that his girl can’t leave work so he comes back.
Micaela talks about the mechanics coming to the party and how impressed she is, Mariluz pretends she didn’t notice. Victoriana comes into the kitchen and Mari is hidden behind the fridge. It’s pretty obvious Micaela didn’t want Victoriana to see Mari. Mari asks about the mechanics being friends with Augusto and gets in earful about how they are really there because Carlota is besotted with Jesus. Mari again remembers Jesus’s words about her being the only one and is pissed that he lied to her.
Jesus is suffering through martinis with Carlota. She flirts openly and he tries to look interested. Carlota is easily pleased though and lapping up his half-hearted compliments. Domi and Emma are standing together and Domi is teasing Emma about her all too obvious eye flirtation with Adrian (these two can’t take their eyes off each other) Emma ‘confesses’ that she likes Adrian and Domi says no kidding! She tells her sister that she is too obvious and she needs to be careful because their parents wouldn’t find it funny. Emma asks if that’s why she’s marrying Iker, to please the folks. Domi admits to Emma she isn’t going to marry Iker, without honesty and loyalty all the money in the world is not worth it.
Damian reminds Samuel and Adrian to stand up straight and goes off to get his drink – well really to snoop around the house.
Emma does a live and shows the party, she asks her followers what they think of her dress. (Take that MOM!!) She ends the live and goes to approach Adrian but her leech friend shows up and carries her off to see Rod who has the alcohol. Adrian follows. Samuel now left alone is looking a little unsure of himself and uncomfortable.
Upstairs Emma has her bestie cover her so she can take an injection. (I still don’t understand why this is a hideable offense, but I also don’t understand in what world they would actually make fun of someone for being an orphan in 2022, so I guess we’ll just pretend.)
More scenes of Carlota and Jesus. Carlota is having the time of her life flirting. Jesus is thinking about how much he’d rather be with Mariluz and wondering where she is. Mariluz is spying on them from the kitchen thinking what a lying rat Jesus is. She hears Jesus asks about Augusto’s friends and assumes he’s an ambitious money grabber.
Damian looks around Augusto’s study and finds a knife on display and remembers his dad telling him he got it for a good friend! He comes back to present day and says dad was wrong, Montalvo was never his friend. He looks like he wants to open the box but Augusto enters and by then Damian is looking at a painting. He tries to play it off and Augusto is suspicious until Domenica comes in and plays along with his lie. They convince daddy together.
Carlota walks Jesus around the party and tells him who everyone is and then it’s back to the bar for more drinks. Carlota says she’s glad he isn’t mad at her anymore for the other day and Jesus says he’s just trying to avoid problems. He assumes Carlota convinced her dad to invite them to the party and he is shocked to learn it was actually daddy’s idea.
Augusto calls Frederico again and is livid to hear he hasn’t entered the shop yet, he doesn’t care that Valero is there; Freddy needs to go, NOW!
Valero is watching TV when the bell rings, he thinks it’s his girl and he’s ready with breath spray and kisses but he gets knocked out instead.
Jesus is suspicious now and tries to leave to check the shop but Carlota isn’t having it, he hasn’t even finished his martini!
Damian wants to bond with Domi over the fact that they are both into art but she’s suspicious – why was he in daddy’s office? He tries to say he just got lost but when she doesn’t buy that he claims he was looking for her! He lays it on thick, he only came to the party to see her, be near her, yada yada yada. The question is why did she cover for him with dad? She didn’t want her dad to the wrong idea, she knows he isn’t a thief.
The teenagers upstairs are getting drunk, being loud and taking shots; they try to pressure Emma into taking shots but she doesn’t want to. Adrian tries to step in to defend her and Rod and bestie (I really can’t remember her name) start mocking Adrian for being an orphan. Emma gets embarrassed or offended by the idea that she needs someone to defend her so she takes the shot. Rod goes back to Adrian and it looks like he wants to start something but Samuel has come upstairs and he picks that moment to ask Adrian if he’s okay. Adrian goes to Emma and says he thought she was different, but he guesses he was wrong; he says to take care of herself but he’ll be right over there.
Mariluz goes to take the glasses out for the toast since Micaela has gotten cake all over her somehow. But when she gets out the door, she sees Jesus and Carlota all cuddled up and this time he notices her. She turns to bolt, dropping and breaking the precious stemware. Victoriana runs over to throw an absolute fit!! And I mean she came unhinged…talk about lacking class. Mariluz is upset to realize Victoriana didn’t know she was there. Victoriana literally throws money in Mari’s face and orders her out of her house!
Augusto tries to calm everyone down and Jesus takes advantage of the opportunity to tell Damian about his suspicions. He wants Damian to go next door and check things out but not go alone.
Damian should rescue Samuel, who is cornered by some stuffed shirt guy asking him how he could possibly not like hunting when he grew up on a farm. Samuel thinks they should let animals live. Domi finds Samuel first, and does rescue him, right as the gentleman is saying Samuel must be an activist because he’s so passionate about animals. Samuel is amused and he asks Domi if he’s an activist and she laughs and says maybe. She tells him he has a very beautiful smile (I agree) and eyes too. He tells her she’s the prettiest girl at the party. Domi asks if he’s thought yet about her offer to teach him to read, he doesn’t exactly answer but she takes that for a yes. They will start tomorrow. Augusto comes and drags Domi away and Damian comes and tells Sam to come with him.
Emma is too out of control Adrian is right there to help Domi get her to her room – but not before Augusto sees Emma is drinking and reads her the riot act. Adrian carries Emma and kisses her forehead before leaving her with Domi.
Sam and Damian get home and find the place trashed and Valero out cold they try to revive him but don’t have much luck.
Victoriana is still crying about her flutes but I don’t much care. Augusto wastes time trying to get Vicky to care about Emma, but she’s only worried someone may have seen Emma make a scene. Lupe arrives as loud and obnoxious as Victoriana was a while ago and demands her daughter as if she’s been held hostage. (I’m team Lupe and all, but she should have come discretely. That scene was unnecessary as Mariluz was in that house of her own free will and wasn’t forced to be there)
Jesus sneaks into the kitchen and tries to talk to Mariluz but she lets him have it. She accuses him of being just about everything except an upstanding gentleman, and he sure looks guilty, but he assures her it isn’t true! He just doesn’t really have a good explanation. He tries to explain that he was just on a mission but Mari isn’t buying it. Jesus tells her to look at him and tells him what she sees but Carlota choses that moment to highjack the conversation and say what she sees instead. The most handsome and interesting man at the party, she runs her hands all over him and then looks back at Mariluz asking her why she’s still there!
Just a note about today's episode, the Televisa broadcast of this episode was over 50 minutes long so I expected the Uni scissors and I tried to make sure the recap only covered what was shown today. That said, in true Uni fashion they cut some pretty funny stuff and nothing that I would have cut (ie. Victoriana's tantrum's and Lupe making the most pointless scene ever) I wanted to share with those who may be interested some info about what was cut.
In the beginning of the episode when Jesus asks Abel to work a miracle - this was actually a much long montage with Abel teaching the guys how to sit properly, eat properly, hold a wine glass, and ask a lady to dance. As you could probably imagine parts of this were hilarious - especially Samuel's antics and everyone else correcting him.
There was a montage of Victoriana getting ready which wasn't in itself interesting but it was juxtaposed with Lupe working and you could see how she had been given more responsibilities at work. It was a clear contrast of the listless trophy wife versus the hard working single mother.
The montage of the Guerrero brothers getting ready was much longer in the Televisa episode and there was enough gratuitous shirtlessness for us to be sure all four men have very nice, well sculpted bodies. It was almost 2 full minutes of various stages of dress and undress and parts of it were funny too - Sam smelling the shampoo in the shower and looking confused, Jesus putting deodorant on Sam.
Overall I thought it was a fun episode. I couldn't write much about what Valero did or didn't say - he talks so fast and runs his words right over each other, plus is using a fair bit of slang so I have a hard time understanding him. I loved the look on Sam's face when he asked Domi if he was an activist! So sweet and clueless. You just want to hug him.
We are 6 episodes in, and I love this show! Thank you for the wonderfully detailed recaps.
I really appreciate the minutia of production, editing, etc. I hate that Univision chopped up the episode. I would love to see the scenes you described. Are they available anywhere?
The hermanos Guerrero are quite the entertaining bunch, but Sam is currently stealing the show. I wanted to post last week that he is like a rescue pup - you just want to hug him and keep him safe and away from harm.
I get a kick out of Damián’s street smarts and swag. Jesús has his hands full, but we want to see him triumph. Adrián is bullied by the snooty snoots, but he is a sure shot for a happy ending.
The actress playing Carlota seems so familiar to me but I’ve read her filmography, and don’t recognize any of the shows listed. She and Augusto aren’t particularly likable, but always fun to watch.
Completely unlikeable is Victoriana. It’s a shame her histrionics weren’t on the cutting room floor so we could get more fraternal comedy.
I like where things are going with Damián & Doménica (with Samuel as a nice buffer). I too find it hard to comprehend Valero. Is this actor the Cosmo Kramer of novelas?
Can’t wait to see where this novela takes us. Can’t wait to compare notes and learn more about this fun show.
O.S.
PS Last week I also wanted to comment on the “whiplash editing.” It rendered the sequencing quite unpredictable which I like - akin to college football. Rough around the edges and not quite ready for prime time. Thanks, Darcy, for confirming the unfortunate snips.
It appears my comments were eaten, but that won’t deter me from watching and joining the patio.
O.S.
Welcome O.S.! It's good to have you join us! I will email Rgv Chick and ask her to restore your comments!
Victoriana is insufferably ridiculous and crazy. She's mad the 'sirvienta' showed up and so makes sure to make a scene that will make this stick in every guest's mind. I mean, I can take a woman being nasty, but not stupid. Lupe was irritating as well. She kind of would have proven Victoriana's point if Victoriana herself hadn't been behaving like a crazy person. It was funny that abuela called her grandaughter when she was working. Who calls someone just to hear about the party when they know the person is busy? I can't understand Valero at all so I'm glad to at least have an idea of what he is saying. There was also a scene where someone offered a drink to one of the brothers and the guy thought it was a tool to repair cars. I can't remember the name of the drink but I remember wondering what it was as every new Spanish word is amystery to me. Wouldn't Emma need to go to the hospital after drinking so much? I can't take the whole 'I'm hiding my injections' thing seriously. It's not HIV. I just know Samuel won't end up with Dom simply because I want him to. I'm a bit disappointed if this means we'll get another a girl reforms a bad boy narrative.
Thanks everyone! I had a super busy day today so I am just now getting a chance to check in and thank you all for your comments.
O.S. I completely agree with you about Sam stealing the show currently! I also had that reaction to the actress playing Carlota the first time I saw her - which was on Medicos. I remember looking her up and finding a list of shows I'd never watched and thinking hmm... maybe we saw the commercials for the show or the thumbnails while browsing through streaming services? Lol I wish I could tell you I knew where you could watch those scenes but I can't. You could try YouTube though, I haven't looked but I know sometimes people upload clips of their favorite scenes from TV shows so you might get lucky and find it.
SpanProf, I don't remember for sure if the Televisa version explained the relationship between d. Abel and the Guerreros. I have it in my head that he's the man who raised Jesus but I can't remember any specific thing that makes me believe that, so I probably just made it up because it makes sense to me. I do remember when the boys were separated in episode man it was an older man who was left at the gravesite with Jesus, but I don't know if that was D. Abel or not. If D. Abel has some sort of connection to their dad that hadn't been revealed as far as I watched it on Televisa, but I only watched maybe the first 20 episodes so it might get revealed later on in the novela.
Waterlily, 'Victoriana is insufferably ridiculous and crazy' Couldn't have said it better myself!! She is immature on top on everything else. It's hard to watch her but the actress does an excellent job of being insufferable! I do remember the scene with the drink, it was Damian asking Sam if he wanted the drink and he thought it was something he'd forgotten back at the shop. I don't remember what the drink was though. Interesting perspective on the 'girl reforms bad boy narrative' but I don't think Damian truly is a bad boy. He has a chip on his shoulder no doubt, but we have seen him do anything illegal. He did just get out of jail, but Jesus said he was innocent and he knew it and he sounded like he was talking about knowing actual facts of the case rather than just giving Damian a vote of confidence, so maybe he was innocent? I don't know, but when he was eating sandwiches with his friends that he thought they paid for and he found out they stole them he handed the sandwich back and told them to keep it. He also didn't touch the 60K though tempted, he may not be the typical bad boy.....I hope they can bring more depth to him.
Well I am working on the recap for today's episode now and will have it posted sometime this evening. Hope everyone is having a wonderful day!
Mari leaves and Jesus is almost stuck with Carlota but Damian calls and rescues him in the knick of time. He rushes home and runs into Lupe outside as he is leaving, Lupe greets him with ‘Angel’.
Valero gives a cute little interactive explanation about how he supposedly fought back but we all know he was out cold. Jesus gets home and sees the mess saying he now understands why Augusto invited them to the party!! Samuel thinks it could have been Batista (Tata) but Jesus says no, he knows the police are after him. If he comes here, he would be arrested. This has to be Augusto. Damian wants to know why but Jesus has figured it out! It’s the same reason he wanted to buy the shop in the first place, there must be something here very important to him.
Augusto is screaming at the world’s worst sleuth about those documents at exactly the same moment. They are looking for documents that incriminate Augusto and Frederico is sure they aren’t in the shop or he would have found them!! They have to be hidden somewhere else!! Augusto thinks this could be true. He tells Fede about Damian getting caught in his study and he is determined to find out everything about the Guerreros. They are hiding something.
Damian reads Jesus the riot act for being worried about Mariluz when the objective is revenge and that means his focus should be Carlota. Jesus can’t help it, he’s in love. He even says if being in love means being unable to stop thinking about someone and wanting to be with them 24/7 and kiss them all of the time – then he must be in love! Dude is a goner.
Mariluz comes home crying and Conchita thinks it’s because Lupe came down hard on her but Mari hasn’t even seen mommy yet, she’s surprised to hear she went to the party. Lupe arrives home right then and Conchita gets to witness Lupe berating Mari for daring to work for Montalvo. But it’s a stance no one can respect because Lupe hasn’t told anyone her real reasons for wanting to keep her distance. Mari declares she isn’t sure about Victoriana or his daughters but Don Augusto is a good man and she wishes she had a dad like him! She storms off to her room asking herself if Jesus would have chosen her if she was Augusto’s daughter. (LOL if she only knew) She tells herself to forget him.
The boys are now half naked and still talking about Mari and how Jesus can’t stop thinking about her. Sam says he feels the same about Domenica. Adrian thinks maybe their plan is going to hell but Damian sounds the battle call. They aren’t giving up! No way, Jesus himself just said the other day this has to be done! Are they just going to forgive him? Nope! Jesus promised his dad and he’s going to keep his word. But he’s also going to talk to Mari and try to explain and see what happens…. Good luck with that buddy!
Mari cries on grandma’s shoulders but I’m not sure if she told her about Jesus or not, she’s mostly talking about fighting with Lupe and being betrayed by Isaia. Grandma advises Mari to listen to her heart and not give up hope. Real life exists and she is going to find it, just don’t believe blindly in all men.
The guys check the video but the thugs are too far away from the camera to be identified. Damian wonders if the girls are in cahoots with their dad and knew about the break in. Sam immediately says ‘No, Domenica is buena’ and Adrian doesn’t think Emma would have been involved either because she was busy getting drunk with her friends. This alerts Jesus to the fact that Adrian was near Emma when he told him to stay away but Adrian claims he did and Sam backs him up. Damian says what about Carlota? Jesus doesn’t know but they need to find whatever it is those dudes were looking for.
Augusto has breakfast with his daughters and quickly forgives Emma when she promises not to do drink again. Carlota tries to bring up the famous trip to Vegas, but Vicky, who was mercifully sleeping decided to drag herself out of bed so she could revel in firing Micaela.
Micaela shows up at Mari’s house bawling and homeless but Lupe has no sympathy. She’s a traitor!!! She gives her friend nothing but attitude but Conchita tells her she can stay with them anyway. Lupe thaws just slightly.
Domenica shows up for reading classes but it looks like Sam is busy. He tells her he’s just cleaning up after what happened last night. Domi asks what happened and innocent Samuel is about to tell her the truth about Jesus’s suspicions but Valero mercifully interrupts and keeps him from spilling the beans. He makes up his own story of what happened.
Fede and Aug talk again about the Guerreros. Fede can’t find any trace of them. It’s like they appeared out of nowhere – no backgrounds or traces of birth. The men decide they must be using false names and they have to find out exactly who they are. They plan to beat the truth out of Beltran’s son, since they would have had to use their real names to buy the business. If he knows, he will tell them, period. Augusto needs to know exactly who these men are especially now that they are getting involved with his daughters.
Emma is in her room remembering how Adrian took care of her last night. He was so sweet to her and she treated him so horribly. Adrian is talking with someone (his mentor?) about Emma too. He says it’s obvious Adrian is crazy about her; he hasn’t stopped talking about her all morning. He advises Adrian to stop judging Emma and just ask her out already. Adrian thinks he is right, and besides it might help with the justice. Justice, his friend asks. Adrian backtracks quickly, no nothing, nevermind.
Sam and Domi are still doing reading stuff. They are learning the letter S and she asks what word starts with S and makes the sound Shh. (It’s so cute how Sam ‘Shh’s at Domi) and he says Sonso! Which makes her laugh. Sam starts to share about Tata calling him Sonso (which means stupid, dumb, or foolish) and Animal, but Domi is so preoccupied by teaching the lesson she doesn’t seem to notice this disturbing information that is being shared with her. Sam is distracted by starring at Domi but he also seems to be absorbing what she says. Sam says he did something with the letter A (I think) and asks if she wants to see. He runs off to get it.
Domi finds the drawing of her in his stuff. Damian shows up and says he told her he liked to draw. She says it’s beautiful and he says she’s beautiful. Domi thinks his work is good and Damian says she inspires him. Sam has hurried back and is disappointed to see Domi and Damian together.
Carlota tells Augusto all about how wonderful she thinks Jesus is! Augusto isn’t happy to hear it but he’s also reluctant to argue with Carlota’s craziness so he sort of cautiously determines it’s a maybe, we’ll see. There’s a moment in the talk where Augusto says he wants to protect her and Carlota says, right, like you protected my mom (!) It was a weird comment and Aggie seemed disturbed by it.
Mari and Lupe talk and resolve their argument from the night before. They sit down to eat and everyone notices there’s an extra plate. Lupe says they have a special guest. Remember how Jesus saw Lupe briefly the night before? Well apparently, she invited him to lunch!! Every one catches up on how they all know Jesus in different ways and Lupe lets them all know Jesus was the one to donate blood and save grandma’s life – you can almost hear Mariluz’s hopes of making him go away die as they women all smiling broadly at the angel!
Conchita is still trying to decide where she remembers him from and I think she’s remembering that boy from 20 years ago even though she doesn’t realize it. Jesus learns that Conchita adores Augusto and Mari too thinks he’s a grand man. They agree Jesus is always going to be welcome there – it’s his home!
Now outside, the bad penny Isaia sees Jesus with Mari and swears he isn’t going to let him take her from him…. yawn
Back to Damian trying to flirt with Domi while she’s trying to teach Sam. Damian makes a joke about bringing an apple for the teacher that goes over Sam’s head, so he just asks Domi if she wants an apple! But he does realize manzana starts with an M, aw! Domi takes off while Damian complains that he can’t be her student too, telling her she shouldn’t deny anyone an education... It was funny but Sam doesn’t seem amused, more like disappointed or confused.
Lupe leaves Jesus and Mari alone and he’s happy and hopeful but he quickly realizes they can’t work this out without him telling her the whole truth and he realizes he can’t tell her. So, he talks around it, which only makes him sound shady and gets him kicked out of ‘his’ house!
Jesus takes all his frustration to Dad’s grave and asks forgiveness for falling in love and promises nothing will get in the way of him keeping his vow. (I’m not sure daddy would be proud. I mean who needs love and happiness when you can have bitterness, pain, hatred and vengeance?) When he returns home, he tells his brothers that he’s going to distance himself from Mari and focus on the goal. He thinks it’s too dangerous to get close as Conchita adores Augusto – she may have told him the truth if he’d told her. Damian too, is proud of Jesus for choosing revenge over love but Damian isn’t very bright.
Speaking of not very bright, Isaia hears about some horrible attack on a bus driver and comes up with the brilliant idea to pretend he was a victim too! This will earn Mari’s empathy. His friend beats the hell out of him and then calls to tell Mari and tells her that Isaia is missing!!! It’s dumb, but funny! Mari hears one of the bus drivers died and prays for Isaia’s safety … geez
Sam is lying in bed thinking of Domi and tracing her picture with his fingers. Damian too is thinking of Domi who is thinking of him. Jesus is writing in his man diary, talking about how he has to distance himself from Mari even if it breaks his heart. He asks the invisible Mariluz if she’s going to wait for him while he completes his revenge.
Isaia managed to find himself a hospital room, oxygen and an arm sling to look really pitiful for visiting Mari. It’s working and she draws close to him out of compassion.
Ever cheerful Emma is trying to chat with Mommy about breakfast while Victoriana seems to be worried about wine. Vicky doesn’t even know where the glasses are in her own kitchen. She lays into Emma for being part of her cause of her headache because of her drinking at her party! In the midst of her nagging, she actually pours a glass of OJ for Emma and I was shocked she showed even that little bit of care to her youngest daughter. She ends up telling Emma to clean the kitchen since they don’t have a maid. Eager to please, Emma quickly agrees.
Domi is taking a tour of the group home and talking about her next career step. She is looking to get involved. She studied social services and she’s ready to help however she can. It’s time to put travelling behind her and get serious about her career path. She sees and recognizes Adrian.
Damian is lecturing himself internally about his thinking about Domi – reminding himself he’s interested in her for revenge and nothing else. Jesus comes looking for his phone and Damian has it. He did his brother a little favor – and before Damian can fully explain what, that favor shows up in the form of Carlota! She is happy to go out with him that night, count her in!!
Mari is still thinking of Jesus and wondering what he’s hiding. What is his secret? She imagines me telling her to tell him that she feels the same as him and just as she’s about to kiss her fantasy we see she’s asleep with her lips puckered!! Grandma saw too and gives Mari a hard time about waiting for a kiss from Jesus! LOL She says it was obvious at lunch that Jesus felt something for Mari and Mari feels it too. Mari admits it’s true but Jesus is hiding something and that has her confused.
Jesus and Damian are still grumbling about the plan when Valero interrupts and makes a comment about how he worked for Beltran for 15 years and knows a lot more than they think! Jesus and Damian look at each other like they are just realizing that neither of them ever thought of the most obvious avenue of inquiry – asking Valero if he knows anything about Montalvo!!! They flip a coin to see who gets to interrogate Valero.
Lupe came to beg Victoriana for Micaela’s job. I don’t know why she would try to appeal for compassion from the compassionless, but it goes as well as you’d expect. Vicky tells Lupe to leave and have a horrible day.
Augusto and Fede talk about the inspector being on the trial of the mechanics. Aggy wants Fede to personally take care of the son of Beltran. Nope, it doesn’t matter if he recognizes you, he’s not going to live to talk about it. We see a dude with a gun accost Beltran Jr and demand answers.
Valero starts to spill the beans… Beltran was involved with dirty dealings with Montalvo. He doesn’t know exactly what but they were involved in but it was something shady. Jesus asks how did Beltran die, exactly? Valero says it’s a good question. He was perfectly fine one day and dead the next. Does Valero think Augusto killed Beltran? Valero says what he thinks is that Jesus needs to be very careful because he’s messing with a very dangerous man.
Another solid episode as we continue to develop the intrigue. I am wondering what exactly is in those documents Augusto is looking for and when/where will they be found? It's also driving me crazy that no one has found Domenica's passport!!! As many times as the placed as been searched, Carlota just put it in the oven, how has no one come across it?
I kind of wish Isaia would just disappear but I admit I got a good laugh out of his beating antics, I can't believe he actually got hospitalized!!!
So far there's only one thing about this show that bugs me and it's this whole idea that seeking revenge is noble and the 'higher' cause. Jesus says he's not free to love Mariluz because he's committed to his dad and his vow. But dad unwisely tied Jesus to that vow in a moment of weakness and desperation. I bet if he had lived or if he could see him now he would tell him to drop it and go be in love and be happy. Of course, we wouldn't have a show if he did that so revenge it is! :)
Darcy, thank you for the recaps, I finally managed to catch up on my watching and I'm able to comment now.
That was some entrance the brothers made at the party! They do clean up nicely, am I right? I think Damian is the most goodlooking of the bros, but I prefer Samuel, because I love Christian de la Campa.
I agree that seeking revenge is no noble endeavor, especially not when you target innocent people - Jesus will be no better than Augusto if he manages to do what he set out to do. The fact that he doesn't want Adrian to get involved only tells me that he realizes what he's doing is bad, but his hate is bigger than his common sense right now. But what about Damian, why should he tarnish his hands and be in harm's way, just because he's a few years older than Adrian? And what about Sam? He's an adult, but he's very innocent, how does Jesus plan to use him then?
Also, leaving a written proof of his plans is a BAD ideea, especially since the mechanic shop is so easy to break into! Stop writing in a journal, dude, you have your brothers to vent.
I'll be back later with the recap of today's episode!
Hey, Patio! Thanks for the brilliant recap and astute observations. You seem to have covered just about everything. I just have a few notes before today’s episode.
Valero actually cracked me up with his embellishment of the break-in/battle. My favorite line was when he warned Sam & Dom to be careful not to step on any of the teeth he knocked out of his assailants. Wow.
I caught the Augie//Carlota info drop of possible nefariousness regarding her Mother. We’re getting glimpses of the REAL Augie with hints like these and his disregard for Beltrán Jr.’s son’s life. Conchita & the daughters are in for a rude awakening.
Isaías’ smack, although staged, was well-deserved. I hope Mari doesn’t fall for his foolishness for very long.
“Man Diary” cracks me up every time.
Never have I ever heard anyone wish another person a “terrible day” out loud. Vic is obnoxious yet keeps it fun.
Can’t wait to see where we’re taken today.
O.S.
My favourite part had to be Domenica teaching Sam to read.H just so innocently tells her that tata used to call him this and that. He has to be my fave. Domenica and Dmian, on the other hand, isn't my favourite thing. There's just something about the way he flirts that I don't like for some reason. Jesus fixing Mri's truck and saving her was more up my street. It's such a pity I couldn't understand Valero's speech to Sam and Dom. I have no idea what he said and it was apparently funny. Didn't he also say he tried to count the men who attacked him but lost count at ten?
Lupe got on my nerves this time. She is stupid if she thinks everyone will do as she says just because she told them to with no explanation. If I were Mari, I'd have been way more hurt by someone starting to shout at me out of the blue. It's a good thing Mari didn't see the scene her mum caused there. How did they learn tata's name?
Thanks for the scene with Isaia because I didn't quite catch it. If M gets back with him, I'll slap my phone screen. I'd like to know how Jesus expects to seduce Carlote when he doesn't seem to like her. I bet Damian would find it easier as he is attracted to Domenica. Do they usually go for the plot where he does try to stick to the revenge plan but then changes his mindand she learns the truth in some way? The plan is pretty funny to me for some reason. Maybe it's because it seems so odd, given that their father actually was attacked if I remember correctly, so seduction seems a strange way to avenge murder.
I don't think I ever saw an evil male character who was aterrible human being but who seemed to love his daughters so this telenovela made my desire come true. It's unsettling to hear about him casually planning someone's murder and turning to his daughters and saying 'princesa'. I do hope his love is genuine.
Thanks everyone, great insight and comments!
Adriana, I prefer Samuel too, because I love Christian but it probably also helps that the only other role I ever saw the actor playing Damian in was a super unlikable role....I think the latent dislike is still there, though the character of Damian is fine. I also had the same thought about if Jesus doesn't think it's wrong why is he keeping Adrian away from it - but I couldn't decide exactly how to articulate it - you communicated it so clearly! Thank you!
I hadn't thought about the danger of writing things down, but you're right of course, that man diary is a bad idea!
SpanProf - I had a similar thought about Victoriana but I figured she would hire her back as soon as she realized she didn't want to do anything herself - I hadn't really even thought about her just hiring someone new.
O.S. you understand Valero better than I do! I got that he was trying to make up some story about the attack but I couldn't have quoted any specific line. That whole teeth thing is funny! Thank you for adding that!! Your comment about wishing someone a terrible day reminded me of a line from 8 Mile (movie) doing a rap battle, one of the guys ended his rap with 'All's well that ends okay, so I'm gonna end this with a forget (he used a different F word) you, but have a nice day!' It's highly inappropriate but I obviously found it funny I still remember it word for word all these years later!
Waterlily - I don't know what Valero said, but that sounds likely. I think Jesus probably always knew Baptista's name - D. Abel found his ranch and all the info probably came with the name of the ranch owner. It's more likely Sam is just learning and using his real name since he's always called him Tata. Jesus only said Tata when he was responding directly to Samuel and just repeating his own words. I 100% agree with you that 'seduction seems a strange way to avenge murder', I have thought this every time I see this plot line (which I guess is just Pasion de Gavilanes and all the remakes of Pasion de Gavilanes lol) it makes zero sense to me but I guess it's just entertaining TV.
Now, it's off to read Adriana's recap of today's episode which she now has posted to the next page! :)
