Synopsis:

As Octavio Sanchez lay dying, he implores as son Jesus to always remember the name Augusto Montalvo. Jesus was Octavio’s oldest son and though he was still a young boy himself he was being handed the mantle and responsibility of taking care of his family. It is unclear whether Augusto directly caused his death or if Octavio is simply dying from a stress-induced heart attack but what is clear is that he is angry, desperate, and out of time; Octavio unfairly demands Jesus promise to find Augusto and make sure he pays for what he has done!

Reeling from the tragic death of his father, Jesus is subsequently dealt another blow as he is immediately separated from his brothers Damian and Samuel. As each boy is given up for adoption to different families. Twenty years later, Jesus has managed to locate his brothers and he is putting into motion a plan to reunite his family and fulfill the vow he made to his father to bring down Augusto Montalvo! Initially his plan is simply to infiltrate Augusto’s world and gain his trust to learn what truly happened all those years ago and look for the proof he needs. But after meeting Augusto’s beautiful daughters and Jesus quickly shifts gears and enlists his brothers in a plot to seduce the girls in order to get revenge on the father!!

Why is seduction for revenge a suitable punishment for the potential murder of their father and ruination of their family??? I don’t know and I rather doubt these brothers do either – but let’s all tune in and find out!!!

Meet the Characters:

Jesus Guerreo (Gonzalo Garcia Vivanco) is our galan and the eldest once Sanchez now-Guerreo brothers.
Jesus's real name is Lisardo. His father, Octavio (Big Ed Yanez), worked as a foreman at Augusto's ranch where the Sanchez/Guerrero also lived.  Jesus is a good man but his anger, grief and hatred for Augusto over the death of his father has been festering for two decades. He is determined to honor his vow to his father no matter what it costs him. Soon after reuniting his brothers, Jesus bought a garage that was directly in front of Augusto's house. Jesus will meet and immediately fall head over heels for his childhood sweetheart, Mariluz Garcia. He must try to fight his strong attraction to her though because in order to avenge his father, Jesus must court the affections of one Carlota Ruiz instead.

Mariluz Garcia (Alejandra Espinoza) is a beautiful, humble, hard-working woman who grew up with her mother and her grandmother. These three ladies have good hearts and a home full of love. Mariluz has never met her father and indeed doesn’t have any idea who her father is since that is one secret her mother has always guarded very closely (although it is a secret quickly shared with viewerville). Mariluz doesn’t recognize Jesus as the boy from her childhood when she first meets him, because of the change of last name, but she is still irresistibly drawn to him. She is put off however; by his apparent connection to Carlota! Mariluz is just getting out of a relationship with one lying cheater, and the last thing she needs is another!!

Carlota Ruiz Montalvo (Altair Jarabo) is the eldest daughter of Augusto. She is spoiled and vain, with a history of emotional instability linked to an early childhood trauma. She is beautiful but also deeply insecure and jealous of her sisters, especially Domenica. Carlota is quickly enamored with Jesus and is determined to win his love at any cost! Sweet as pie when you are on her good side, however; it is quite evident that her bad side may be a dangerous place to be!

Damian Guerrero (Rodrigo Guirao), is the middle child and more than a little bit rough around the edges. In and out of trouble his whole life we meet Damian on the day he is released from jail after serving a stint for stealing cars. Though not a bad guy per se, he definitely has a couple chips on his shoulder and the attitude that goes with it. Damian has trust issues and isn’t as sure as Jesus that they can all just morph into one happy family after all these years. Damian is doesn’t have Jesus’ same burning desire for revenge but he isn’t opposed to the plan either; and as a plus it is lust at first sight when he sees Domenica Ruiz so it doesn’t take much to convince him to get closer Domenica……. for revenge you know…

Domenica Ruiz (Oka Giner) is Augusto’s middle daughter. She’s beautiful and sophisticated and maybe a little jaded. Though definitely a product of privilege, Domencia does not appear to have the same vanity or sense of entitlement as Carlota. When we meet her, she has just returned home from an extended absence and is not at the best moment in her life. There was a deportation? Or a run-in with the authorities? It’s not immediately clear, but we do know Domenica isn’t exactly comfortable in her skin returning home to a sister who hates her, a mother who suffocates her, and a father who she is afraid to come clean with. Domenica does enjoy a warm relationship with her younger sister Emma and she develops an immediate – though platonic – affection for Samuel Guerreo who she sees as sweet though maybe a little slow? Domenica also has a strong reaction to meeting Damian Guerrero though it’s more animosity than affection; but there might be just the slightest hint of flirtatious interest behind that annoyed glare! Domenica also has a boyfriend? Or Ex-boyfriend? Or is he, her fiancé? This is messy and we like messy around here!!!

Samuel Guerrero (Christian de la Campa) is the youngest Guerrero brother and he was a very small child when his father died. A child was ‘adopted’ into slavery!!! Treated as nothing more than free labor his whole life, Samuel grew up doing back breaking farm labor for a man who treated him as if he was just another animal on the land. From his very first interactions with his brothers, it seems clear Samuel was never educated or socialized and was probably rarely spoken to. While he is more than once mistaken for slow at first meeting, Samuel isn’t lacking any of his faculties, he is simply extremely shy and unsure of how to behave and interact in a world he was never exposed to. Samuel is a sweet and incredibly innocent soul; despite the horrific way he was raised. He doesn’t seem to have even an ounce of rancor towards anyone – not even the man who enslaved him – however he feels a fierce loyalty to the brothers who saved him and for that he agrees to go along with the revenge plan - though his role is more one of silent acquiesce than active participation. Still, Samuel hopes no one gets hurt, especially not Domenica, because Domenica is Buena! Of this, Samuel is very sure.

Emma Ruiz (Karena Flores) is the youngest of Augusto’s daughters, and she is young. She is a dancer and budding influencer with a fun optimistic personality. She is a little spoiled and definitely sheltered from her upbringing but she has a good heart. Emma isn’t interest in dating the good-looking popular rich guy who her friends have been encouraging her to hook up with and instead finds herself drawn to Adrian, a dancer from another dance squad and a less affluent neighborhood.

Augusto Ruiz Montalvo (Diego Olivera) our villain, is the father of Carlota, Domenica and Emma. He is a cold and calculating business man who benefitted greatly from the death of the boy’s father. We don’t know yet exactly how he was involved but he’s very nervous about the appearance of the ‘Guerrero’ brothers and he is determined to make sure his secrets are not revealed. He is married to the vain and vapid Victoriana, whom he married for money and position; but he has never quite forgotten Guadalupe Garcia whom he had a relationship with prior to meeting and marrying Victoriana, it appears he cared deeply for Guadalupe but was still willing to sacrifice that affection to his ambition.

Other notable characters:

Adrian (Sian Chiong) is the cousin of the Guerrero brothers. He is a young man who grew up in a group home after the death of his mother when he was young. After feeling alone most of his live, Adrian is thrilled to learn of his cousins’ existence and eager to be a part of the family. That eagerness has him wanting to help in their plot for revenge even though Jesus doesn’t want to get his young, innocent cousin mixed up in their mess. Adrian has a genuine attraction to Emma but he’s also willing to leverage that attraction to help out his family.

Victoriana Penalver (Sabine Moussier) is Augusto’s wife and Domenica and Emma’s mother. She is everything you expect the trophy wife to be and a little too interested in her husband’s nephew, Federico. A hyper critical and selfish woman who dotes on Domenica ‘the perfecta’ and is openly critical and even hostile toward Carlota – who is her step daughter – and Emma, who she despises because she didn’t want to have a second child and because Emma had the nerve to be born ‘sick’ with Type 1 diabetes!!

Guadalupe Garcia (Natalia Esperon) is Mariluz’s mother. She has raised Mariluz alone and doesn’t appear to be interested in romance. Although she once believed herself in love with Augusto the rose-colored glasses have long sense been removed. She knows he’s an unscrupulous man and she doesn’t want him anywhere near her family, especially not Mariluz.

Conchita Garcia (Ana Martin) is Mariluz’s grandmother. She is a sweet lady who was once an employee of the Montalvo household and the former nanny of Augusto. Her affection for the boy she helped raise blinds her to Augusto’s true
nature.

Corazon. I think I recognized Diego and Olinka from Mexicana, and a few other faces were vaguely familiar. Kind of a dramatic novela--and how did that old guy get away with enslaving someone? Even someone who seems mildly developmentally disabled.

Corazon Guerrero Capitulo 1 of 8

**Recapper’s note: for this recap I am using the names of the characters as soon as they appear, even if they weren’t necessarily named upfront. I figured it would be easier then tracking a bunch of ‘some girl/guy’ etc., and it would also allow us to start to get to know character names even if we haven’t been told the name quite yet. If a character remains unnamed the name isn’t in the recap either….with the possibly exception of Frederico who might not have been called by name today.

We begin with a scene labeled as ’20 years ago’ and we see three young boys crying at the grave of Octavio Sanchez. The oldest of the boys pulls his brothers close and tells them not to cry, he is going to take care of them now and that he won’t let anything separate them. They declare it as: ‘The word of the Sanchez’ and each boy holds out his hand revealing identical little trinkets (I couldn’t tell what exactly it was). Mere moments later though life clearly proves the young boys wrong as they are ripped apart from one another and carted off in separate directions.

A narrator’s voice begins our tale: ‘Twenty years ago I was cruelly separated from my brothers. Great pain can change the destiny of a man. When you lose everything you love you can’t let so much pain go unpunished. I have never forgotten all the damage they did to us. They say every story has a beginning, and this is the beginning of the end of a story that nobody wants to remember. Especially not those that caused the damage’

Augusto Maltavo exits a high rise building and places his sunglasses on his face. ‘Let’s go’ he yells to someone behind him. At the same time we see our narrator opening up the door to a mechanic’s garage and looking purposefully around.

‘This story began a long time ago when we were happy’ and we see flashbacks of those young boys playing with their father and said father telling the oldest – who is Lisardo – that if anything happens to him, he has to take care of his brothers because he is the oldest and most intelligent.
‘We were only kids, and we didn’t think anything bad could happen but it did. The betrayal came for what we most loved, our father’ – As we watch Lisardo runs into a room and finds his father on the ground in obvious pain with some blood visible on his face. Lisardro runs to his father and begs him to be okay. Lisardo begs his father not to die ‘too’ but Octavio tells him not to say that. They never found the body of their mother – she’s alive! You have to find her. Go for your aunt – my sister – and tell her to help you. Lisardo continues to beg his father to stay with him but Octavio has something else on his mind. ‘Augusto Ruiz Montalvo’, he says, that’s the name of the man responsible for this. That bastard and his family ruined everything! Never forget that name! You have to seek justice for what he’s done; to me, to your brothers, you have to get justice!! Swear to me you will! Lisardo swears and looks on in horror as Octavio takes his last breath.

‘I never forgot’ Our narrator, (This is Lisardo, but we are going to know him as Jesus so I am just going to call him Jesus from here on out) assures us, ‘I’ve never forgiven them’. Jesus stands outside his garage as Augusto Montalvo’s SUV comes driving up the road. ‘Today is the beginning of a new story’ He waits until he has his attention and with Montalvo bearing witness, he removes the ‘for sale’ sign outside his newly acquired business. ‘The return of the children of Octavio Sanchez, with one mission… to get justice for our father!’

Corazon Guerrero Capitulo 2 of 8

We get a change of both scenery and narrator as we are taken to a colorful market full of flowers, Mariluz tells us all about Mexico’s rich culture of flavor, textures, smells and flowers. Flowers are a big part of all their celebrations and for that it’s become a great business opportunity for all. We see Mariluz is giving her talk to some amigas and they comment that she always gives them financial advice and wonders if she will continue to do so once she graduates. Mariluz says of course she will! She will always be there for her neighborhood; nothing is going to change that. The girls ask where Dona Conchita is and why she hasn’t come. That’s what you think, Mariluz corrects, my grandma never lets me down. She’s over with Chabella (This is what they call their truck) passing out sandwiches to the boys helping sell flowers.

And we see Conchita at the back of the colorful ‘Chabella’ doing just that. The boys greet her with smiles and hugs of gratitude and I’m betting Mariluz isn’t the old one around here who sees Conchita as a grandmother figure. Mariluz arrives at the truck with another man who wants a sandwich too and Conchita jokingly tells him he’s already fat before good naturedly handing him one. One of the gathered boys notices Mariluz and makes an inappropriate comment about her curves and Conchita immediately goes into ninja granny mode but Mariluz is more than capable of defending herself and she dumps potting soil on the boy’s head! The whole crowd laughs and then the boys add their own rebuke by swatting at the offender all in unison. Even though the rebuke is surely serious the smiles never disappear and the good-natured mood of the gathering is not affected.

Augusto is now in his study with his nephew, Frederico; and he’s not happy about his new neighbor. He told Freddy to outbid the buyer so that they could get the garage. Freddy tried but the new owner bid way more than the property was worth. Like 3 times what it was worth!! Augusto is unimpressed that property represented much more than money to them and Freddy knows it. That location had been sitting open for a while, and now he needs to know all about the new owners and he wants to know NOW!

Jesus is now sitting in his truck talking to Don Abel on the phone, letting them know he’s on his way to pick up Damian. He wants to know if Don Abel has heard anything about Samuel. We see an older man on the other end of the phone giving Lisardo his answer. He had to search very hard to locate Samuel but he believes he has finally found him! He is living on a ranch, and from he’s been able to put together it seems Samuel is not doing well.

As Abel speaks, we see a young man, barefoot and in nothing but jeans, covered in dirt from head to toe, struggling under the weight of a giant beam of wood on his shoulders as the man behind him yells at him to go faster. Samuel drops the log and the old man yells at him for stopping. He should be able to handle this just fine, he’s strong!

We don’t know what horror exactly Don Abel has shared with Jesus but his whole demeanor has changed from relaxed and excited to agitated and upset. He declares he is going to go get his brother TODAY, just send him the address and he will take care of the rest. He is so upset he doesn’t even appear to notice when he rearends Mariluz and Conchita in Chabella and he takes off leaving the women to yell after him in vain.

Corazon Guerrero Capitulo 3 of 8

Jesus is now outside a police station and we see another handsome young man collecting his belongings from the guards at the front desk. As he steps outside, he’s twirling the same wooden keepsake he’s had since he was a child in his hand. Damian, looks skeptically over to where Jesus is waiting by his truck. Jesus raises his arm showing his own charm hanging from his wrist. The meeting between brothers isn’t hostile but definitely off balance, Jesus is all hugs and excitement while Damian is standoffish and unsure but Jesus assures him that if he comes with him, he’ll have a place to live, a job and a family; what else could he want? Besides, Jesus needs him! What do you say, he implores his brother, are we going to get Samuel or not? Damian agrees to go and Jesus is thrilled.

Victoriana is complaining to someone that her flower arrangements aren’t elegant enough when Augusto comes down the stairs warning her to hurry or they’ll be late. Victoriana wants approval of her dress and she strikes a pose. Augusto seems unimpressed but still says she’s beautiful, now let’s go! He heads out the door before his wife can even react.

In a kitchen elsewhere, Guadalupe is mocking how happy Victoriana must be with the return of her little ‘princesscita’ Domenica! Her companion agrees that her patrona can’t stop talking about it and the upcoming wedding!!! She’s so excited her daughter is getting married. She makes the mistake of referring to Augusto as Guadalupe’s ‘galan’ and Lupe immediately corrects her – Montalvo isn’t her galan. What happened was twenty six years ago and it’s so far in the past Lupe doesn’t even remember what happened! This earns her a ‘yeah right’ scoff but before the conversation goes any further, they are interrupted by constant honking outside and go to see what’s up. They find Mariluz and some neighborhood guys pushing Chabella home while Conchita steers and honks the horn. Lupe asks what happened and is filled in on how ‘some idiot’ crashed into them!! Before they can get into too many details however, they notice Conchita doesn’t seem well. Rushing to her side they call out to her, but Conchita is unresponsive and faints where she’s sitting in the driver’s seat of Chabella.

Jesus and Damian pull up and stop in some alley and Damian wants to know what Jesus thinks he will be doing in his shop. Working, of course, Jesus assures. Surely you know something about mechanics and if you don’t you can learn. Jesus explains everything they are doing will be to recover what was stolen from them and to be together like their dad wanted. Jesus tells Damian again the only important thing is that they are together and all he wants to do is take care of his brothers like he couldn’t when they were kids. They come to a gate and Jesus advises his brother to wait there, he says the ranch owner is aggressive and it’s likely they will have to leave quickly. He hands Damian the car keys. Damian can’t believe his brother is just leaving his car with him. Doesn’t Jesus know that he just got out of jail for stealing a car? Jesus is sure his brother was innocent and besides he trusts him. He leaves Damian behind and hurries to find Samuel.

Jesus finds Samuel chopping word and startles him slightly when he calls out his name. Samuel wants to know who he is and Jesus says he’s his brother. Samuel looks a little scared but Jesus shows him the wood piece and Samuel confirms he still has his as well. Jesus quickly tells his brother he’s been looking for him for years! Sam still looks spooked and this little reunion is unpleasantly interrupted by the nasty landowner himself. (I am not sure what his name is, but Samuel calls him ‘Tata’) Jesus tries to tell him that he’s Samuel’s brother and he's taking him out of there; but Tata isn’t having it and he has a gun! Jesus has no choice to leave but before he does, he assures Sam he’ll be back for him. Samuel says nothing but looks a little shell shocked and sad to see Jesus leaving.

Corazon Guerrero Capitulo 4 of 8

The doctor is meeting with Lupe and Mariluz and telling him Conchita isn’t doing well, she’s going to need a lot of tests. The ladies look at the list of tests needed and they don’t know how they will ever pay for it all! They start listing basically everything in their house they can sell to help pay the bill and we see images of them collecting all items; everything except the computer which Mariluz needs to finish her classes at the university. They are also throwing in the money that was supposed to be used to pay the household expenses.

Emma is preparing for her dance routine while also filming a session live to her social media followers. She is smiles from ear to ear and full of kisses and enthusiasm for all her followers. Upon ending the live she hears the announcement that the event’s biggest benefactor is there to say a few words, and he is Augusto Ruiz Montalvo, her dad. He approaches the stage and gives a short appropriately supportive of the arts speech. Emma thinks her dad is the best.

Jesus and Damian are either still at the ranch or back at the ranch and they discuss their next move to try to sneak their brother out past Tata who appears to be sitting at guard – though he’s drinking a beer and relaxing. They try to sneak in to the shed but see that it is locked. Jesus is discouraged but the ‘innocent’ Damian isn’t phased and he quickly sets to work picking the lock. Inside we see Samuel, now in a shirt, eating whatever food has been allotted to him with his bare hands, not a fork or spoon in sight. Jesus is worried the noise will alert Tata but Damian gets the lock opened. Jesus sends him to be the lookout while he goes inside to get Samuel.

Samuel again looks startled to see his brother and quietly asks what he is doing there. Jesus says he came for him. He’s going to take him with him. Sam is looking scared and Jesus tells him not to worry…. Outside, Damian accidentally steps on a tree branch which breaks and alerts the dog who alerts Tata. Damian takes off quickly to hurry along his brothers and Jesus must have convinced Samuel because they are halfway out the door when Damian arrives to warn them Tata is coming. This frightens Samuel who starts to fight against his brothers to return to his cell or else Tata will kill him. Jesus says they aren’t leaving without him! He tells Damian to go get the truck, hurry. Taking his brother’s face in his hands he begs Samuel to trust him, they have to go. Samuel relents and they start to take off together but it’s not in time and Tata arrives in his truck with a gun.

‘Animal, get in the truck’, Tata orders Samuel. Samuel immediately moves to obey but Jesus stops him and tells him he's not going anywhere with that man. He yells out to Tata that Samuel isn’t going to be his slave! This is 2021, don’t you know? I’ll put you in jail!!

Damian arrives on the scene as well and Tata isn’t going to give up so easily, he raises his gun to shot Jesus but Samuel steps in front of his brother and is shot instead!! Jesus immediately goes to the ground and puts his arms around his brother begging him to hold on but Samuel knows better and hasn’t taken his eyes off Tata!! He whispers ‘Tata’ just as Tata has once again lifted his gun and is about to take aim, this time Damian moves quickly and hits Tata from behind taking his gun.

Corazon Guerrero Capitulo 5 of 8

Tata is on the ground and Jesus is once again (or possible still) focused on Samuel and telling him to hold on. Samuel is still horrified by what is going on over yonder and trying to warn Jesus to look at Damian. Damian is holding the gun to Tata’s head and demanding to know what he did to his brother (a darned good question if you ask me!!!) Damian shots out Tata’s tire instead of shooting his face but when he rushes over and sees his brother bleeding, he changes his mind and says he’s going to kill him! Jesus stops him and says it’s not Tata’s fault!?! The man who is really at fault is Montalvo. I hate you, Jesus shouts!! (I’m sorry but if I found my brother in that condition being held captive by a man who referred to him as ‘animal’ I would not be so forgiving; I’m not in favor of violence but…)

Augusto and Victoriana are watching the dance competition…First up is Adrian’s group and most of Emma’s friends are unimpressed and laughing at their lack of class but Adrian seems to have a swagger and Emma is intrigued. Right after their dance, Adrian approaches Emma and asks for her name. They meet and Emma asks if he’s always so forward. He says only when he can tell he’s talking to a good person.

Victoriana is restless, she wants to go see Domenica. Augusto says Domencia must be just arriving and she is, as we see. She gets off the airplane casually dressed but goes to the bathroom and changes into a smartly accessorized flight attendant’s (?) uniform before coming outside to greet the driver sent to pick her up.

Carlota enters a brightly lit bedroom; she has a welcome home surprise for her little sister… a tarantula! (How fun!) She laughs at the silly welcome home poster and changes it from ‘Welcome Domenica’ to ‘Welcome Domendiga’

Emma’s group is now up and Victoriana immediately begins criticizing everything. She can’t even pretend to be interested and as far as she’s concerned to be a dancer means to do ballet. Augusto is frustrated and hisses that he knows she didn’t want to get pregnant again, but Emma is her daughter, can she please stop acting like she doesn’t even love her? Emma is working hard to control her diabetes. Adrian’s friends have a bunch of snide comments to make about the snobby girls who obviously are spoiled by their parents, but Adrian thinks it would be nice to have parents to support you. The dance ends and Augusto stands and claps, Victoriana does not.

Conchita lies in her hospital bed begging Guadalupe to tell Mariluz the truth about her father saying if she dies, she wants to go in peace, knowing everything is out in the open. Lupe shoots that down immediately; telling her mom that she isn’t going to die and Mariluz isn’t going to be told about her father. She implores her mother to respect her decision to keep this secret. She has her reasons for not saying anything and Conchita doesn’t appear to be aware of them. We see, however, a flashback of Augusto yelling at young Guadalupe informing her no bastard will ever have HIS last name! That child had better not be born and if he is, I’ll kill him!!! Lupe simply tells her mom she doesn’t know the real Augusto, but then begs her to calm down and rest. Mariluz returns and they talk about how the tests are going but at that moment Conchita takes a turn and the ladies call desperately for a doctor to come quick!

At the same moment, the hermanos Guerrero are arriving with injured Samuel and calling desperately for a doctor to tend to their brother. The scene flashes back and forth between the desperate families as medical professionals rush to attend to the patients.

Corazon Guerrero Capitulo 6 of 8

Back to the dance competition and Emma’s squad is declared the winner!!! They excitedly jump up and down as the crowd cheers. Victoriana doesn’t even bother to stand up until she gets a pointed look from Augusto. Adrian’s squad is feeling sour about the loss and declare you must have to be privileged to win this competition! Even Adrain agrees after he notices Emma talking to some preppy looking guy. He turns and walks off with his friends never seeing the disappointed Emma looking after him.

Back at home, Augusto and Victoriana are greeting Domenica and welcoming her home. Victoriana immediately asks if Domenica’s fiancée is there, but Domenica makes an excuse about him staying behind to work. Emma enters the room and the sisters squeal in delight and run to embrace – a genuine happiness to see each other is felt and they talk all over each other each wanting to know how the other is doing. We learn that Domenica quit her job and Emma is surprised because she loved that job.

This warm sisterly moment is rudely interrupted when Emma dares to say how much she missed Domenica because she left her all alone and the mother of the year pipes up to tell Emma that Domenica has the right to live her life and no one wants to be saddled with taking care of an ‘inferma’ all the time! Augusto tries to take the sting out of his wife’s words by saying Emma manages her diabetes well, but Emma didn’t look all that concerned and I’m guessing she’s used to mommy’s warmth.

Next Carlota arrives and makes a snide remark about Domenica being the prodigal daughter. Isn’t she going to even say hi? Domenica attempts to hug her sister but Carlota dodges the hug and Augusto has to correct her next. Carlota (rather comically I thought) says her sister didn’t even ask how she was but just to let her know she was doing really well…. until Domenica got there! Carolta declares time to eat and walks off. Augusto asks that Domenica be patient with Carolta because she knows it isn’t her fault??

Many from the neighborhood are gathered with candles to pray with Mariluz for Conchita’s health and they brought her flowers and (I think) some money to help with the expenses. It’s not much but it’s what they have. Mariluz is very grateful. Jesus and Lupe are praying too. They are both in the chapel several rows apart. Damian at the door to the chapel, watches his brother pray with a look of uncertainty.

Carlota is giving a dinner toast, I bet this will be fun! She toasts to the arrival of her dear sister, Augusto and Emma add more genuine sentiments and Victoriana ruins any good feelings by bringing the subject back to Domenica’s upcoming wedding and how she picked the ‘right’ guy and how Domenica, at least, makes her proud. Carlota makes her way around the table and asks for forgiveness for how she greeted Domenica, claiming she just had a bad day; she intentionally clicks her glass too hard, shattering it and cutting Domenica’s hand. Domenica and Emma run off and Carlota tries to play innocent. A phone call interrupts all this fun and it’s Mariluz Garcia calling with an Emergency. Victoriana could care less about the emergency because they don’t take phone calls during dinner but Augusto takes the call anyway. Mariluz tells Augusto that Conchita is doing very badly and wants to see him to say goodbye; he says he’ll be right there. The second he hangs up Victoriana goes off about him leaving the celebratory dinner, she couldn’t care less if the woman might be dying, Domenica is more important. (It’s only 30 mins into the first episode and I already hate her so much!!) Augusto leaves despite her protests, and Carlota subtly asks how many important women Victoriana thinks her dad has in his life? LOL

Corazon Guerrero Capitulo 7 of 8

Domenica and Emma are tending to her hand and Domenica assures her sister that she is fine. They go to look at the banner, Emma wants to show off what she made but they notice Carlota’s upgrade. Emma doesn’t understand why she has to be so mean to them but Domenica says it’s because she isn’t right, she lived through something very traumatic as a child…they change the subject to Emma’s YouTube channel and don’t notice Carlota looking in on them and locking them in the room. The girls are happily talking makeup tips until they notice the spider! Emma shrieks and they head as far away from the uninvited guest as possible.

Mariluz is outside selling the flowers the neighbors had brought her to cars passing by and couples out on dates.

Back in the hospital, Damian asks Jesus what is going on with the police. Apparently, they told them the shooting was an accident because Jesus doesn’t want to stress Samuel out more with an investigation. Damian asks Jesus again if he’s truly serious about them being a family and once again Jesus assures his brother that he is. Damian admits he wants to try too, and this time the hug between brothers seems reciprocal. Jesus immediately asks to borrow 5 pesos (LOL)

Mariluz and Lupe are at Conchita’s bedside and talking about whether or not Augusto will show. Lupe thinks not, Mari wants to know what her mother has against Augusto and Conchita urges her daughter to answer but before she can Augusto himself shows up. Conchita is so happy to see him. ‘Mi nino’ she calls him and he goes right to her bedside and strokes the side of her face. Lupe and Mari leave them alone but Lupe warns Augusto to only stay a minute before she leaves and tries to listen in at the window and even read lips! (Imagine referring to your former lover as ‘Senor’) Augusto isn’t doing much talking though just hugging Conchita closely commenting on how she is like a mother to him.

Lupe is upset outside the room, and calling Augusto a liar. Mari doesn’t understand why she hates him so much. Lupe finally agrees she needs coffee and asks Mariluz to bring it to her. Left alone, she reminds her self that certain feelings died many years ago and what is dead will stay dead. Conchita starts to tell Augusto something she thinks she can trust him with, but Lupe comes back in the room and tells him his minute is up. Augusto thanks Lupe for giving him a minute and starts to say, ‘if you need anything’ but she quickly assures they don’t need anything from him. Next, he tries telling her that her eyes are still beautiful but Lupe is both uncomfortable and uninterested in hearing it. She dismisses him.

Next, we see Augusto asking the doctor why all of the tests Conchita needs haven’t yet been done. The doctor responds it’s because they haven’t been paid for.

Jesus is getting his coffee when Mariluz approaches the same machine. She asks him if he has any change since all she has is a big bill and Jesus starts to tell her he doesn’t have any change but when he turns and sees her, he tells her she can have his coffee instead (AW). She accepts gratefully – on behalf on her mom. Jesus thinks they must have met before but Mari doesn’t think so. Jesus says he’s seen her eyes before but he can’t place where...this pleasant interaction is broken up by the unpleasant arrival of one Augusto Montalvo calling out for Mariluz.

Corazon Guerrero Capitulo 8 of 8

Augusto approaches and asks if he's interrupting and if Jesus is her boyfriend but she says no, he is; and then she realizes she doesn’t know who he is so she asks his name. Jesus, he says looking at Augusto, Jesus Guerrero. They shake hands and Damian arrives to tell Jesus the doctor is there to talk to them. Jesus rushes off and Mari watches him go.

Left alone, Augusto let’s Mariluz know he paid for the rest of Conchita’s tests and they can count on him if they need anything else. Mari thanks him and offers to pay him back but he says there’s no need. He places a tender hand on her cheek and says she looks so much like her mother. She thanks him again.

Damian must have decided to go home and rest because he pulls up outside the shop and takes a swig out of a flash. Domenica is on the phone with her fiancée and it doesn’t sound sweet or loving. She tells him he has some nerve calling her. She was deported because of him!!! And she doesn’t know how shes’ going to tell her parents. The voice on the other end tries to tell her everything will be fine and he loves her but she tells him to go to hell and hangs up. Damian’s plan is maybe to sleep on top of a truck instead of in the building? We see him climb the ladder of what looks like a food truck with a guitar and his bags. Domenica is seeing this too, as she’s come out to her balcony for a smoke. She watches him strum the guitar for a moment and seems maybe a little intrigued until Damian notices her too and looks more than a little intrigued! Her face clouds over and the openness in her expression is gone as she sardonically smiles and heads back inside. Damian’s smile is more one of awe and anticipation as he watches her leave.

Jesus is outside and looking relieved when Mariluz arrives to hear the good news; Samuel is out of danger. Mariluz’s news is less hopeful, the doctors aren’t sure if they’ll be able to save her grandma. Jesus tells her ‘they say hope is what illuminates the heart and opens it.’ Jesus asks if Augusto is part of her family but she tells him no. He’s a man her grandma helped raise as a boy. Jesus wants to know her name. They make a joke about her owing him because of the coffee but she still doesn’t have change. Jesus keeps looking at her and he still feels like he knows her from somewhere. He asks if she used to live in the country. She says she did when she was really young but she doesn’t remember it. They talk more about the ‘coffee debt’ and Mari continues to be aloof. She has to go. She starts to walk away and just when Jesus has given up, she turns around and tells him ‘Mariluz, my name is Mariluz Garcia’. The name turns on a light bulb for Jesus and he flashes back to a memory of him and Mariluz playing together they were kids.

Thank recap is a little long I know. I wanted to catch everything since it was an introduction but future recaps will surely be shorter and sweeter! ;)

SpanProf - my first thought reading your comment about how could an old man get away with enslaving someone was to agree; but my next thought was of some absolutely horrific true crime stuff I've seen and read where I had the same reaction of disbelief. It's sad to think of some people being so compliant to their own abuse but apparently it happens. In this case, if the farm was isolated enough and Tata getting Sam at such a young enough age, I could almost see it because Sam's identity and sense of normal, would be completely formed by Tata. And without enough people around to notice or care how he was being treated --- he could probably get away with it, sadly. Don Abel did say that it took some work to finally find Samuel so I'm guessing he was pretty off the grid. Never put in school, never taken to town, etc.

Guerrero. No doubt you're right about Sam, Darcy. And may I say, what an incredibly detailed recap! It also seems as if you might have access to a longer version than was on tv today--or maybe I just missed a few things. Quite a few telenovela coincidences, like Jesus just happening to have hit Mariluz's truck, then both happening to have relatives in the emergency room of the same hospital (though if this is Mexico City, we know from previous novelas that it only has 1 hospital, which not only stands alone, but is magical because main characters always run into each other by chance there :), and then turning out to have known each other as small children out in the country. Hmmm. Beanie hat!

SpanProf - What? You don't run into your first boyfriend, your next door neighbor and your third grade teacher every single time you go to the hospital??? Maybe you're going to the wrong hospital? LOL Gotta love telenovela coincidences

What a detailed recap! It's actually great as the introductions are hard for me to understand and it takes a while to remember who is who. I'm not sure how long I'll stick with this one as I couldn't find it on my usual telenovela site. The actress playing Carlota is the reason I chose to watch this because she is the only one I know and I remember hating all the evil ladies she played. But here she acts like a five-year-old. Spider? Locking people up?It's a bit hard to take her seriously here. I'm rather curious how she'll go from spiteful tiny acts to what I assume will be genuine plotting and scheming. How is it possible to shater a glass by clinking it with another one, though? I'm tempted to try this out.
If Jesus is so interested in revenge, why limit it to one person? That'tata' deserves a punishment as well. Whatever that other man did, this didn't directly make 'tata' treat Samuel the way he does.
At least Victoriana's husband used to be a horrible person at one point so no wonder they got married. Unless this was all a clever trick or something. Didn't those ladies have to sell their coffee maker to pay for the tests?

Darcy, your summaries are beautifully written stories.

Your entire recap perfectly reflected everything that transpired. "In a kitchen elsewhere, Guadalupe is mocking how happy Victoriana must be with the return of her little ‘princesscita’ Domenica!" was a gem among many. The mysteries, the injustices, the revenge has all been set in motion.

If only the episode had made me feel a tenth of what your recap did. A story needs to pull you in, to be curious, to care about the storyline and the characters. This is very hard for me, but I have to be honest. For whatever reason, I just was not drawn in. I kept waiting to start to feel real interest, some intrigue but it just didn't happen. Some of my favorites are in the cast so the fault is obviously not the story or the actors, but mine.

I am happy that you already have comments and I know your patio will grow. You are a marvelous recapper and I know you will do masterful justice to this.

Thank you Darcy!

Thank you waterlily,

I actually love the character of Carlota so far. I love that she’s acting almost juvenile because it throws you off balance. Is she really going to just be childish? Or is she dangerous? Is she crazy? Or sane? If she stays this way and doesn’t develop throughout the novela I would probably get tired of it but I found her interesting here. I like the departure from the typical mean girl - like Victoriana - who is just vain, vapid, snide and ready to pull hair. It seems like Carlota might get creative. We will see

I agree about Tata, I couldn’t understand how Jesus could just dismiss him as not important. He’s so focused on Montalvo he can’t see the forest for the trees! I think Tata is much worse. Whatever Augusto did he probably did over weeks or months, Tara’s crime has been going on for twenty years!!

Yes, they sold the coffee maker and several other household items to get money but they were still short apparently and Augusto paid the rest.

Diana, thank you Amiga, I always appreciate your encouragement and admire your kindness!

GUERRERO

Darcy, wonderful recap, so much detail that we surely needed to better understand this new story.
The bit about everyone meeting in the only hospital in Mexico City was hilarious. And I'm guessing the other hot spot will be the street where the Montalvos live and jesus bought his mechanic shop. How much of a residential area is it anyway if there is place for a small private business?

I have to admit I'm not yet sold on the story, but I will hang in there for at least a couple of weeks, see if things get better for me.

Later in the day, I will post a recap of episode 2, maybe writing about the show ill increase my interest.

Guerreo

Thank you Adriana! I look forward to your recap, although I am guessing I'll be reading it tomorrow morning since I know it's now in the middle of the night where you are. I look forward to discussing episode 2!

I understand if you aren't sold yet, and I appreciate you giving it a couple of weeks. I know I will end up watching no matter what. I don't remember how many episodes in I was when I was originally watching it on Televisa, but I was hooked. I love the character of Samuel especially. I only stopped watching because of my family situation and I definitely want to see the whole story now that it's arrived on Uni.

For anyone on the patio who may not know, Adriana lives oversees and I know it was her intention to post the recap right 4pm eastern which would have been 10pm her time. Since that didn't happen and it's now 2am her time, I am assuming life happened instead as it sometimes does and she will post the recap as soon as she's able to.

GUERRERO Capitulo 2 part 1 of 3

For those who missed the first capitulo, Jesus brings them up to speed by writing in his man diary about his plans of revenge against the family who took everything from him.
Mariluz and her mom talk about Abuela Conchita being sick but stable. They also mention how bad they are doing financially, thank God Don Augusto helped out. Even if Guadalupe doesn’t like him, Mariluz thinks it would be wonderful to be the daughter of such an important man. Mom feels uncomfortable…

At the hospital Jesus and Damian teach Samuel how to eat with a spoon. They tell him he will get out of the hospital that day, but Sam is worried about the people he left behind. Jesus explains him that he has a new family now, Damian and himself.
Breakfast at the Ruiz Montalvo house. Carlota doesn’t miss the opportunity to mock her sisters a bit. Domenica has a job interview today and would like her dad to give her one of his cars, for HER to drive. Augusto says sure, but I bought you a brand new car! Aww, how sweet…

At the same time Mariluz is upset over her truck. Later her mom calls her to say Abuela needs a blood transfusion, but it’s a rare blood type (as it tends to be the case EVERY SINGLE TIME). As the doctor explains they need to find a donor Jesus overhears and says he could do it, he’s RH negative. Problem solved!
Later Mariluz daydreams about Jesus, while preparing for her online exam. She runs into Jesus and his brothers when she gets back to the hospital and gets to meet the guys. Jesus gives her a card and she realizes he’s a mechanic and as it happens, she needs help with her car. Jesus is glad to help, Mariluz hands him the car keys. Damian and Samuel notice the flirting and smile.

Don Abel meets with Adrian and tells him that he has three cousins, they are the sons of his mother’s brother, who is dead.

Carlota wants to be the first one to drive Domenica’s brand new, sporty red car. One of the Montalvo drivers is reluctant to allow her, since she can’t actually drive, but you can’t fight crazy!

Augusto gives Domenica a bunch of credit cards and suggests she take some time for herself before she finds a job. Domenica says she can’t just sit around and do nothing all day and don’t even think about offering her a job at the company. Augusto is very proud of her, she has been a great sister, especially putting up with Carlota’s bad temper.

Domenica would like to know the truth about what happened to her sister.
It was years ago, when Carlota was a child. Her mother, Virginia (Augusto’s first wife), set herself on fire in front of her, which of course left Carlota traumatized. The flashback shows Carlota holding a lighted match, so who knows…

Victoriana finds out Carlota left with the new car and is very amused, it’s high time Carlota started facing some consequences for her actions. Emma arrives to ask permission to spend the weekend at Valle de Bravo with a group of friends – some guy named Rodrigo included. Victoriana agrees when she realizes who Rodrigo is related to.

Jesus shows his brothers their new house. Sam knows about cars, he wants to work with his brother.

Carlota can’t drive a car, but sadly for us, can’t crash it into a tree either. So as she gets out of it in frustration, she breaks a heel and falls to the ground, just in time for Jesus to see her and run to her rescue. She hurt her knee, is a bit rude at first, but he insists he can help, by taking here into his arms. Carlota likes!
Jesus takes her to the shop to tend to her wounds and then suggests she call her family to come get her. Carlota is fanning herself, but then leaves.

GUERRERO Capitulo 2 part 2 of 3

Mariluz’s boyfriend, Isaia, is not that great, he ogles other women while talking with Mari on the phone. Guadalupe doesn’t like him, but she has bigger worries, like the expensive medicine. She does have the time to mention that the guy needs to put a ring on it first, Mari can’t end up a single mother like she and abuela did. Mariluz protest by saying that being a single mom is not something to be ashamed of (how very 2022 of her, she clearly never had to raise a child on her own). Both she and grandma have been wonderful! And Isaia loves her!

Jesus shows the brothers the room they will share. There is also a photo of them as kids, with their dad. Sam remembers fun times spent together. Damian asks for a photo of mom, Jesus says he’s not sure she’s dead, her body was never found. Only Jesus remembers her a little, she was a very loving person. Then he explains how Augusto stole their lands and killed their father in the process. And the guy lives just across the street, Jesus plans to get back everything that was stolen from them and make that maldito pay. Damian wants to help, even as Jesus prefers not to get him involved. He ads they also need to forget about using the Sanchez name, Augusto might see the connection. From now on they are called Guerrero, he even has the fake ID’s that go with.

At the same time Augusto is plotting a way to get into the shop. Federico thinks it will be easy enough, but Augusto doesn’t want him to underestimate those men, they need to get their hands on the documents and the money as soon as possible.

Victoriana complains to Augusto about the car and how Carlota doesn’t even care about what she did.

Carlota is, indeed, carefree, she’s in the kitchen, baking a cake for the mechanics. And it’s so ridiculous, it’s actually funny.

Jesus watches as Augusto goes to check Domenica’s car, that Carlota left just outside their house. He calls Damian, he has a “job” for him… Basically Damian opens the hood of the car and does something to it. Samuel comes outside to help out and notices Domenica leave her house – he thinks she’s sooo pretty. Domenica goes for the car, Damian, who has managed to finish with the car, chats with her about their previous meeting. She pretends not to remember him, tries to make it clear nothing will ever happen between them.

Going back to his brother, Damian explains he’s not into this type of things. Jesus knows, all he needed was a reason to get close to Augusto. When Federico can’t start the car, Jesus offers to help, he has the shop right across the street.

Federico goes to inform Augusto about the latest. Augusto hopes they can find what they search for before those poor mechanics do, because they’d have to do something about them… Federico understand very well.

Jesus explains to Damian they just took the first step, they are getting to know their enemy. He gets a call from Don Abel letting him know that he met their cousin, but he doesn’t know where his mother is. Also, he was called by the clinic where they have their aunt, she doesn’t have much time left.

Jesus takes his cousin, Adrian to meet his mom, she is not well, but she did love him a lot. They don’t know who might have given her a photo of her son. She’s on a hospital bed, looking very disheveled, but she recognizes her son immediately. She acts normal for a bit, then she starts shaking, speaks to someone imaginary, gives her son the bendicion. When she sees Jesus she calls him Octavio, tells him to take care of her son. She has another crisis and falls asleep… or dies. Talk about good timing.

GUERRERO Capitulo 2 part 3 of 3

Outside the hospital Adrian wonders what could have happened to his mom to become like this. Jesus only knows that she used to work for a Ruiz Montalvo company, she was left at the clinic and gave birth soon after. Adrian was a preemie, so he ended up in a hospital, but there are no records of who took him there. Jesus assures him he has a family now, he’s a Guerrero.

Carlota and her cake plan to visit the shop, she realizes that Jesus must be single since there is no woman around.

Jesus tells his brothers Adrian will come to live with them soon. He gives Damian some work to do and asks Samuel to rest some more. Carlota arrives with her cake, Jesus thinks it’s not necessary. She also wanted to welcome him to the neighborhood. They live right across the street, and her dad REALLY wanted to buy the place. This new information gets Jesus’ attention.

Emma is already in Valle de Bravo, making a video for her followers. She hides just enough to take her insulin shot, nobody knows she’s sick, but she’s used to it. She wants to win the dancing competition, asking money from her dad wouldn’t be the same, she wants her mom to see that she can do things for herself, just like Domenica does.

Augusto is upset Emma was allowed to leave, he hopes she took her medicine. Victoriana is sure she has, she’s getting so many wrinkles because of Emma. Augusto warns her that she needs to take care of HER daughter, but Victoriana has other plans, she needs to go shopping.

Domenica comes to ask for her car with Samuel, who mumbles a bit before Damian arrives and asks her to decide between the two once and for all. He’s only joking, but this is foreshadowing. Domenica prefers to only address Samuel, but her car is not yet ready according to Damian, who doesn’t want her to leave. He gets in front of the car, but Domenica eventually drives off.

Mariluz comes to check on her car just as Carlota and Jesus go outside and Carlota kisses his cheek. Mariluz doesn’t like what she sees, when she goes to talk to Jesus she asks how much it will cost her. Then she sees the red trunk and realizes this is the car that hit her and with Damian’s “help” realizes that this is Jesus’ truck. She goes ballistic, decides she wants to take her car and leave.

Samuel finds a package in the toilet … It’s filled with cash.

Carlota pretends to be Domenica on the phone with some guy and realizes her sister has been deported. At the same time Domenica is talking to a lawyer, who tells her the situation is difficult, she could end up in jail.

Jesus comes to find Mariluz, to apologize. But she’s so upset he suspects there has to be another reason. Mariluz thinks he shouldn’t care, because he has a girlfriend and before he can say anything, Isaia arrives and introduced himself as HER boyfriend.

So there it is. I found the editing very choppy, some things happened at lightning speed, but maybe this is just to better set up the story. For now I find Carlota rather entertaining, Victoriana is already the worst and the rest are kind of blah… Damian and Domenica have some potential, but Mariluz and Jesus do nothing for me, at least not for now.

PS: I fell asleep before 10PM my time zzzz....

Guerrero

Adriana, thank you for this stellar recap!! I had a feeling you fell asleep, I don't blame you. I fall asleep before 10 pm everyday! I'm always waking up to texts from friends who ask questions at 'reasonable' hours of the evening and get answers the next day because I was sleeping!! hehe. That getting up at 4 am teaches you to go to sleep when the sun does.

I agree with you about the choppy editing, they are trying to establish the story and the interest lightning quick and it feels odd. The scenes with Adrian's mom especially felt ridiculous!! You said it perfectly: 'She has another crisis and falls asleep… or dies. Talk about good timing.' LMAO

I find the whole idea of Emma hiding her Taboo diabetes illness to be weird...is that really a thing? So you have diabetes, take your shot, no big. I don't know, maybe it's just my own exposure. I work with several diabetics who have taken shots right in front of me and I've thought nothing of it. It seems weird that it would be so alienating in 2022, but then with mother of the year making you feel like a freak all your life because you are 'inferma' I guess she just got insecure about it.

I'm with you on Carlota. I don't know why, maybe it's because life has been too 'real' for me this year but I find her delightful....she's jealous so she wants to drive Domenica's car, oh she doesn't know how to drive; well no worries, she'll do it anyway! Oh that doesn't work, oh well, I'll bake a cake and throw flour at the maid if she dares question me!! She's cray cray and random and like you said so ridiculous it's actually funny!

I also really like Samuel, I like how he says 'Samuel soy' instead of 'soy Samuel' and how he laughed when he realized Mariluz named her car and he tells Domenica 'I am the brother of my brother'. This is a person who abused he doesn't even know how to eat with a spoon and yet so innocent and full of joy, you could see it when he's telling Jesus how he likes working on cars. I love the way Christian de la Campa plays it, his facial expressions are so good!

Jesus and Mariluz I agree with you again on...not inspiring much yet. I think Domenica will be quite interesting, I like that actress.

Guerrero
This felt weirdly choppy. Adriana's (thanks for providing his name) mum showing up threw me off. I was like what's going on here? These people need to hire someone who does their job well because even with my limited Spanish skills, I was not impressed. I thought Adriano was an orphan and then his mum appears just so we could watch her die. Carlota was funny as hell. But if she set her mum on fire, I might have to stop laughing at her. I couldn't even find the last part of the episode so it's a good thing I know what happened. That cake bit was the highlight of the episode and makes me think it was worth going to bed late just so I could watch the episode. But this telenovela lacks something. But it took me a while to get into amor dividido so I'll wait a bit longer.

Guerrero. I will comment on the next page, which is now up.
