MEPS, Thursday, September 17, 2009, Damian and Camilo Go Directly to Jail

Damian says he needs Aurora to put the batteries in the exact spot in order to find out what Barbara is up to. This must be an idiomatic expression unknown to me.

FrEd meets with Father Bosco in the hallway at the hospital to get away from Erika. He tells the good father that they made a mistake. It wasn’t Artemio who beat up Steve. It was Camilo Elizalde. Father is shocked because he thinks that they were about to take someone’s life because of a mistake he made. Ed tells him that they have gotten a little more time. But, Ed says now La Hiena is dying to find out the connection between you and me. Father says there is something worse. I told Artemio Bravo that I would deliver your dead body to him.

AB tells Barb that she is late. She had a lot to do at the hacienda. He doesn’t accept that. She goes on to tell him that she’s about to deliver the Elizalde goods to him. He goes on about Father Bosco’s visit and her call to him. AB grabs her face and asks her what is going on? What happened? She says that the crazy Elizalde was about to leave. She also tells him that she has confided in Father Bosco in order to get his help. He wants to know if the father reported them to the police . She says, no, that would mean that Lili is dead. AB is still suspicious and still thinks that Eduardo Juarez is still alive. He wants to be convinced that he has nothing to worry about. If he gets further proof, Lili will be set free. The priest assured him that there were no ashes. What, she says. He tells her that Bosco buried the body where it would not be disturbed. He’ll exchange the body for Lili.

Ed continues his conversation with Father Bosco. He realizes that Artemio Bravo knows that Soledad’s son returned for justice on behalf of his mother. Bosco says that Artemio Bravo no longer believes the suicide story. The only thing that saved the day was Barb’s call. Then he drops the bomb about delivering Eduardo’s body to Artemio Bravo. He wants Ed to leave. Ed says he’s not going anywhere until Lili is free. Ed wants to distract AB and get Lili out. Father asks if they can get Barb to help. Ed says , no, because she’s just another tool of Artemio Bravo.

Lili cries a perfect glycerine tear all alone in her bedroom.

AB says that he’s inclined to deliver Lili’s dead body to the priest. What a shame, he says that she betrayed him. He will never forgive her nor anyone else who does that. Nobody gets to know his secrets. He heads for Barb. She understands. Speaking frankly – what you did to Montserrat, I’m inclined to do to her daughter.

Meanwhile, Fer shows up at the police station. She says she wants to file an assault complaint against Camilo Elizalde on behalf of a friend.

Meanwhile, dopey Damian parks his car in a public square and calls Barb. He tells her he’s at the place. She can’t get there because of traffic. Meanwhile security has him under surveillance. A police officer with a dog finds something in the trunk of his car. No doubt the explosives he bought for Barb. Damian gets out and sits on the hood. Police cars with officers in full battle dress grab him and place him under arrest. A frightened Damian is taken away.

At the hospital, Erika hangs all over Ed. She is sorry that Lovely’s uncle had a heart attack. Ed says he’s hanging on. She says everything will be OK. He just wants a miracle. He realizes that Lovely is gone. Ed calls Lovely who is running down the street crying. Out of character, Lovely is wearing a frumpy plaid shirt. She says she is going to do what she should have done a long time ago. Franco tries to get her to change her mind.

We watch a robot remove the bag of explosives from Damian’s car. Damian is identified and reported as a terrorist. Explosives removal mission is a success. We are impressed.

Fer reviews the complaint. FrEd calls her and asks her about Camilo. She thinks Cam is probably in his apartment that is located near Lactos. He tells her about Lovely who has just arrived at the apartment. Ed gets a paper from the nurse and writes down Camilo’s address. Erika approaches and asks to borrow his cell phone. She asks if something is wrong. He says, no. Make your call. Of course she sees that he was just talking to Fernanda.

Lovely walks in and flirts with the janitor. She asks him not to call Camilo because she’s going to surprise him. She even has the key to the apartment.

Ed whispers something in Padre’s ear and tries to leave. He has to shrug off Erika at least three times. She wants to go with him. Finally, he says no. You can wait here with Father Bosco.

Camilo emerges from the bathroom to a rap tune and gets himself dressed. Enter Lovely. She skulks around the apartment but unfortunately Camilo exits the bedroom while her back is turned. He looks uglier than usual.

Erika is now talking to mommy and telling her that she’s moving up her wedding date. Her mother says that is not possible. The invitations are out, everything is set. Erika is desperate. Her mother wants to know what is going on. Erika says her wedding is in danger and she wants to get married no matter what.

The argument between Lovely and Camilo gets physical. He’s ready to throw hot coffee at her and she lunges at him. He grabs her and tells her she’ll never laugh at him again. Now you’ll find out what happens to someone who crosses Camilo Elizalde’s path. He rips off her blouse. So now we know why she was out of uniform. She kicks him and then grabs a knife from a drawer. He fights for it. She kicks him again and stabs his hand. He looks at her in horror.

Pris asks Anibal if he knows what happened. She tells him about Damian.

Lovely now has the knife at Camilo’s throat. You’re going to get what you deserve for all the bad things you have done. I have nothing to lose because you have killed the only beautiful and clean thing in my life. He screams, no. She says she doesn’t care if she’s dead or alive. He begs her. I’m not Lovely, I’m Venus, and I have been a working woman all my life, and she’ll gladly die knowing that he’s dead.

Lovely tells Camilo that Steve isn’t going to die alone – you’re going with him. You have to pay because you are a coward.

Franco is stuck in traffic. He has somehow changed into a sport shirt. Barb calls and tells him that she has to see him immediately. He apologizes and tells her he has something else to do first. She tells him that Artemio Bravo plans to kill Lili.

Anibal is trying to find out more information about Damian. He’s on hold. Pris asks him if he he’s involved with Damian. Anibal denies that. Ani sends his regards to Comandante Lazoyo. He tells Pris that Damian has been arrested and is accused of terrorism and that the police found explosives in his car. So, she says, the TV reports are true. You swear you had nothing to do with this. He swears. Ani thinks this is good news because this will silence Vlad.

Lovely still has the knife to Cam’s throat. She wants him to die slowly, one drop of blood at a time. She keeps plunging the knife further into his throat. Fer and the janitor arrive. Fer begs her to stop. Fer says she didn’t come to help her brother, but that she came for you, Lovely. Franco called her and she gave him the address. She knows that what Camilo did is very serious. Two ploice officers enter the apartment.

Damian curses the Hiena. Jacobo says, wait a miniute. Jacoba says the most serious charges are the possession and transportation of explosives, etc. That won’t set you free. You’re sunk. Damian says he’s going to turn Barb in to the police.

Damian tells Jacobo to find Barbara to get him out of this. Jacobo wants to know what he is going to say to Dam’s mother. Tell mom that this all was a mistake and that he’ll prove his innocence and that you saw me screaming and crying.

Mom meanwhile hears the news on TV and can’t believe that her beloved son is in this trouble.

Jacobo, says Damian, go to my apartment, look in my bureau and get the video camera because there is a treasure inside. And this treasure will yield a lot of money for us. (I thought he said jewels???)

Fer is still begging Lovely to drop the knife while the police look on helplessly. She tells Lovely that they are going to take Camilo away. Lovely doesn’t believe her. She’ll take her own justice. Fer continues to beg her and that if you kill him, you will be arrested. Finally, Fer pulls Lovely’s arm away from Camilo who cries and screams at her. He calls his sister a golfa and demands that they arrest Lovely. The police drag him out kicking and screaming. Franco finally arrives and comforts Lovely.

Erika continues her conversation with mom who tells her the church isn’t ready. She called the bishop who told her to talk to Father Bosco and ask him to change the wedding date. Erika is delighted. Bosco walks in and is greeted with the good news that she and Franco can get married in his parish. Bosco is visibly shaken and stirred.

Fer tries to calm Lovely down. Franco has also arrived wearing jeans and a t-shirt and tells her that Steve’s condition is the same. He wants her to go back to the hospital and that he has to go talk to Barbara. He’ll call Fer later.

Father Bosco says that the bishop sent him a letter permitting him to perform the marriage. Bosco wants to know what is the hurry. Erika makes up a lame excuse. The important thing is her marriage to Franco, not the big party. Bosco agrees to perform the marriage. It’s an order from the bishop.

The nurse comes out asking for Steve’s family.

Jacobo is at Damian’s apartment and finds Vlad’s DNA profile. He wonders what it means.

Franco has changed back into his business suit and arrives at Lactos. Gardenia gives him the love stare while Flor calls Bab. Gardenia rubs up against Franco as he passes by. Flor asks her what the heck she is doing. I can look, can’t I. But not that way says Flor.

Barb wants to know what game Franco’s playing. Tell me why you sent Padre Bosco to see Artemio.

Erika and the nurse go to Steve’s room.

Barb remarks that you (Franco) know about Artemio Bravo’s past. Yes, he admits, I know it. What, she says, does Father Bosco have to do with it. At first, he says, nothing, but he’s very familiar with the region he assumed he knew the secret. When I explained to him that he could help free Lili, Father agreed to deal directly with Artemio Bravo in exchange for their silence if AB would free Lili. Barb says that’s absurd. Artemio knows that someone has Ana Gregoria’s diary.

She warns Franco that Artemio thinks it’s him. Franco says that he will deliver the diary to Gonzalo if anything happens to Father Bosco and that he will tell Gonzo everything that has been going on between Barb and Artemio Bravo. Now do you see the difference. Barb has an ah, hah moment.

The nurse tells Erika to talk to Steve. Erika calls out his name and says, it’s me Erika. Can you hear me? Steve shakes his head, yes and says, Erika. She cries a tear of joy because he knows her.

As you can see, Barbara, if anything happens to either Lili or Father Bosco, Artemio Bravo will feel the consequences of all the years of suffering he has caused. He will face the law for all his atrocities. She says wait a minute. Why did you ask me to call the priest at AB’s. Because, he says he realized that AB wasn’t responsible for the assault on Steve. You didn’t trust me and tell me that. She then lays a few cards of her own on the table. She has no doubt that AB will kill (liquidar) Liliana. She then says that if you have the diary, there is one other person who her boss fears and who he doesn’t believe is dead. The boy who has been gone 15 years and who has every reason to get rid of Artemio. That person will have complete control over AB. What’s his name says Franco. Eduardo Juarez, son of Soledad.

Ani reports to Gonzo that Camilo is under arrest. Rays of light emerge from Gonzo’s head. And, you know what else? The person who turned him in is none other than your daughter, Fernanda.

End of chapter.

Mañana es Para Siempre, Thursday, September 17--Ep #147: Witness what happens when you've got junk in the trunk

Damian really, really needs to find out what's going on with Evil Barbie…or so he thought bubbles as he drives.

Franco explains to Padre Bosco that it was Camilo who bet the snot out of Esteve. PB points out they were about to hand Eduardo over for a mistake. Franco says it's ok, but now Barbie will want to know how they're connected. PB informs him that's not the worst of it--he promised to hand over Eduardo's corpse!

Evil Barbie complains to Artie that she took a long time getting there because it was hard for her to get out of the hacienda. Artie notices that that's been happening a lot lately. Barbie says they shouldn't argue--they're about to achieve his life's work. She'll have everything in her name soon. Artie wonders if that's why she suddenly became delirious and wanted to confess to Padre Bosco. He grabs her face and asks her what the heck is going on. She tells him that she thinks it's time to let Lili go, but Artie wants to know why. Barbie doesn't think they should have anything at the end of this but the Elizalde money. But since he never listens, she sent the Padre. Artemio says he is becoming more and more suspicious that Eduardo is alive, but since PB is intent on convincing him that he has nothing to worry about, he's going to hand over the corpse in exchange for Lili. Barbie reminds him about the crypt, but Artemio tells her that PB assured her there aren't ashes--he decided to bury him so that Artemio wouldn't profane the tomb. Barbie confirms that they're going to trade the body for Lili, but Artemio says it's only so that Lili can be buried in the same place as Eduardo!

Franco is finding out that Artemio is convinced that Eduardo Juarez is alive and wants revenge. Padre Bosco says he offered the body in exchange for Lili, but now he's complicated things more. Franco says until they get Lili back, he's not leaving. He doesn't know how to resolve this, but he's going to still and distract Artemio until they can get Lili out. Eduardo doesn't think the deal with Barbie is really getting him anything…he thinks she's just another of Artemio's pawns and Lili's life depends only on Artemio's whims.

Lili cries in her room and looks at the chess board. FREE LILI!!!!

Artemio tells Barbie that he's going to give the priest Liliana's body. He thinks it's too bad what happened--he trusted her and she betrayed him. He won't forgive her for that…he won't forgive anyone for betraying him. He wonders if he's regretting Barbie's scruples. She has no idea what he means (and neither do I). "Good, then" he says, because he doesn't see a difference between what Barbie did to Montserrat and what he's going to do to Lili.

Fer goes to the police and turns Camilo in for beating "a friend".

Damian pulls up to a public area with other people around. He checks his cell and calls Barbie. Barbie is still on the way, she says she's caught in traffic, but almost there.

The feds have Damian under surveillance. A man with a dog goes up to Damian's trun and the guy signals that the dog sniffed something…the explosives, I presume. Now the cops roll up, sirens blaring and big scary weapons pointed at him. Damian gets his dumb ass arrested. They put him in the back of a truck.

At the hospital, Erika says Lovely told her that Esteve had a heart attack. She's sure everything is going to go well, though. Franco hasn't called Steve's parents, but he guesses at some point he'll have to. He starts looking around as he realizes Lovely isn't there. Erika saw her leave, but Lovely didn't say where she was going.

She's walking down the street and answers her phone, crying. She tells Franco she couldn't just sit there and she's going to do what she should have done already. Franco tells her to come back before Esteve wakes up and needs her. She says she's going to kill Camilo and hangs up on him.

Now they've got a robot checking out Damian's car trunk. Damian gets driven off in the back of a truck. Another cop calls it in that Damian Gallardo is being brought in for possession of explosives and on suspicion of being a terrorist. Ha. Ha. Hahahahahahahahaha. A reporter blasts Damian's name all over la televisión. The bomb robot pulls out a couple of sticks of pink TNT. Dude, I like anything if it's pink. They do a lot of complicated loading of it in some kind of tank.

Fer reviews the typed up report from the cops and thanks the lady at the desk. Her phone rings. Franco tells Fer that Lovely is gunning for her brother. She supposes he's at his apartment and Franco asks for the address.

Lovely pulls up in front of Camilo's apartment in a taxi. She looks scared and weepy and stands there for a minute.

Franco writes down the address on a piece of paper he gets from the nurses at the desk. Er borrows his phone cause she "left" hers at home. She sees he called Fernanda.

Lovely says hello to the desk clerk and asks him not to tell Camilo she's on her way up…she wants to surprise him. He agrees, after she tells him she's got the keys just in case Camilo's not there.

Franco tells Er he's going to find Lovely and asks her to wait there. Er gets all clingy. Franco firmly tells her he's going alone and she's going to wait with Padre Bosco. She agrees and he leaves.

Camilo hobbles around getting dressed and listening to bad hip hop. He makes it as far as getting on a shirt and a pair of jeans when Venus walks in. She puts her jacket down on a chair and edges toward the bedroom. Unfortunately, he comes out from another door and sees her before she sees him. They both look at each other angrily and Venus hyperventilates.

Erika tells her mom she's pushing up the date of the wedding. She wants to do it in 8 days. Dolly laughs at her. Erika throws a tantrum about needing to do it whether there are guests and a party or not. Dolly wants an explanation. Erika says her wedding is in danger and she'd rather die than lose Franco.

Camilo thinks she's there to tell him that Esteve is dead. He tosses her around, then pours a coffee. She grabs him by the hair and gets in a few kicks, but he gets one arm twisted around behind her and threatens to show her what a man he is. He's going to show her what happens to someone who says Camilo Elizalde's not a man. He rips her shirt, but she knees him in the groin and then finds a big knife in the sidebar. She comes at him with it, but he gets a grip on her wrist. She knees him again and then stabs him through the hand, pinning it to the sidebar. Eek…I hate hand trauma!

Pris comes into Anibal's office to ask if he's heard what happened. She's referring to Damian being a terrorist.

Now Venus has Cami by the hair and has the big knife at his throat. She's telling him this is for him and all the men in her life who have done whatever they wanted with her without caring how sick it made her. She says they all satiated themselves like beasts. She asks if he still wants to punish her (he sobs "no") and tells him he's so "soberbio" (arrogant, haughty) that he still thinks there's a way a man like him can punish her. She says there are no ways left to make her suffer, because she's been through it all. She has nothing left to lose because he killed the only good thing in her life, so she came to make him pay because he still has something to pay with, he cares about his life, while she doesn't care anymore if she lives or dies. He's scared! She calls him on having called her names a few minutes ago. She tells him her name isn't Lovely, it's Venus, and she's been a whore all her life. She wants him to look at her so that he knows that it was a "mujerzuela" (prostitute) who sent him to the other world.

We go to break. When we come back Venus tells Camilo, over his screams, that Steve's not going alone…Cami will go first. She's sure he's not hurting nearly as badly as Steve was when he and his buddies beat him up…because she's sure Camilo didn't act alone, he's too much of a coward. She's slowly dragging the knife along his throat.

Franco is stuck in traffic. Barbie calls him and he reports he's stuck in traffic. She wants to see him ASAP, but he says he's got something else to deal with. Barbie says they've got to get Lili out right away because Artemio's going to kill her.

Anibal is on hold. Pris wonders if he had anything to do with it, but he has no idea what she's talking about. He gets information, sends a hello to Comandante Lozoya (the one and only named cop in this show…every show's gotta have just one), and tells Pris that Damian was detained on suspicion of being a terrorist. His trunk was full of explosives . Pris still wants him to swear he had nothing to do with it. Anibal says either way, this is great news for the two of them. They've silenced Vlad, and Damian going to jail makes him practically dead.

Venus tells Camilo not to worry, she's going to take sure his death will be slow, so he can feel what Steve must have felt. She notes his blood is red, not blue. Fer walks in with the desk guy from downstairs. She begs Lovely to stop, but Venus says that no one was there to beg Camilo to stop when he was beating on Steve. She says she's not going to stop just because he's Fer's brother. Fer tells Lovely she's not there for Camilo, she's there for Lovely. Franco called her to tell her where Lovely was going. Camilo starts trying to beg, but Venus shuts him up. Fer says she's got to let the cops deal with this, just as the cops come running in. I would say that startling a woman who's holding a big knife to a man's throat is a bad idea if you intend to stop her from cutting him!

At the police station, Jacobo has showed up as Damian's lawyer, I guess. Dam screams that Barbie must have set him up. Jacobo tells him they're throwing all the baddest parts of the book at him and he's not getting out on bail…he's in it up to his neck. Damian grabs Jacobo and tells him to find Barbie and tell her to get him out of this or else (I didn't understand his "or else" something about taking her between his feet?). Jacobo agrees. He wants to know what to say to Damian's Mommy. Dam says to tell her it was all a mistake and Jacobo is going to get him out…he doesn't want that "vieja" (old lady, but really disrespectfully in this context) showing up and yelling at him and crying.

Said Mommy sees the news on TV. She starts the yelling and crying without him.

Damian tells Jacobo to go to the apartment and take out some papers and a video camera. Dam wants him to just take the stuff and guard it. It's a treasure that's going to become more valuable with time.

Fer keeps pleading with Lovely that the cops aren't there for her, she turned Camilo in for what he did, the cops know what's really going on. Lovely wants assurances that he's going to have the shit kicked out of him in jail, but Fer can't guarantee that. Fer keeps reasoning with her, that if she kills Camilo, she'll go to jail and then Steve will wake up and find out the person he loves most in the world is in jail for murder. Fernanda keeps inching closer and gets the knife away from Camilo's throat. She gets Lovely on her feet and covered with her shirt. Camilo starts screaming that Lovely's really a whore and she's going to pay, blah, blah, blah, as the cops carry him out. Fer is trying to calm Lovely as Franco walks in, having missed all the action. Venus looks like she's in shock. She starts crying and runs to Franco.

Erika talks to Dolly. There's no room in the original church for the day Erika wants. Dolly understands she wants to rush things, so she talked to the bishop, who's going to talk to Padre Bosco, and get the wedding done on the day Erika wants. Padre Bosco walks into the lobby and Erika gives him the "good" news that he gets to marry her and Franco. He doesn't look too happy about it.

Back at Camilo's place, Lovely's gotten a new shirt. She says she feels better, but she's still crying hysterically. She wants to see Steve and Franco wants Fer to take her back to the hospital while he goes to find out what's up with Barbie. Fer doesn't like this, but she agrees.

Padre Bosco says if he gets a letter from the bishop, he'll have to do it. Erika says they'll have the wedding as soon as Steve is out of danger. PB wonders why she wants to do this so quick. Her excuse is that when Steve is all better, he's going to want to get back to the US and since he's their padrino, it's better to speed things up. Er says she's realized it's the wedding that's really important, not the party. PB is glad to hear it. He very craftily avoids saying he's happy about it, just repeats that if he gets an order from the bishop, well, an order is an order. The nurse comes in looking for Steve's family so that the doctor can give them some information.

Jacobo finds Vlad's DNA profile and wonders why it's worth a lot of money.

Franco comes into Grupo Lactos, says hi to Flor, disses Gardenia, gets announced to Barbie, and goes into her office…once Gardenia gets out of his way. She is just shoving her body at him any chance she gets. Flor calls her on it, as if Gardenia cares.

Barbie gripes that this isn't a game. Franco's on board with that. She wants an explanation about what Padre Bosco was doing there.

The doctor and Er are all in scrubs, Er says she's Steve's best friend's fiancee.

Franco verifies that he knows who Artemio really is. Padre Bosco had nothing to do with it at first, but when he found out PB had been around for a while, he assumed PB must know the secret. He talked to PB and PB offered to negotiate Lili's release. He was supposed to get Artemio to let her go in exchange for their silence. Barbie says that Artemio knows that PB knows all and has refrained from killing him only because he hasn't felt like it yet. Franco says they have Ana Gregoria's diary as ammunition, but Barbie informs him that AB already suspects that Franco has it. Franco thinks this is good news, because if AB touches PB, he'll spill the beans to Gonzo, including Barbie's role in all this.

The doctor wants Erika to talk to Steve. Erika says "Steve, it's me, Erika, Franco's fiancee, do you hear me?" Steve kind of groans and then manages to get out "Erika." Erika is impactada and cries that he recognized her.

So, just to clarify, if Artemio does anything to Padre Bosco or Lili, Franco will screw up his whole revenge scheme and he and Barbie will have to answer for all the evil stuff they've done. Barbie still wants to know why she had to extract Padre Bosco from Artie's house. Franco explains it was because he'd just realized Artemio wasn't responsible for Steve's beating. Barbie complains that he didn't share that info with her. She knows that Artie is going to be thrown off for a little while, but in the end he'll still kill Lili. The diary puts them on equal footing, but there's one more piece of information that Franco needs to be one up on Artie…Artie is afraid of someone, someone he thought was dead until recently, a kid who left Mexico 15 years ago and would probably want revenge on Artie. If Franco finds this person, he'll gain control of the situation and he'll have absolute power over Artemio. And who is this person? Eduardo Juarez, the son of Soledad Cruz.

Anibal comes into Gonzo's office to tell Gonzo that Camilo has been arrested. Yes, he's sure, and guess who signed the "denuncia" (report, complaint)…Fernanda! Gonzo is impactado.

And that's all for tonight! I feel a little low on snark this episode, but there was so much heaviness and not a lot to mock. I'll try to make up for it next time :)

MEPS - Wednesday, Sept. 16 - Padre and AB debate; Fer has an enchanted dream; Fr/Ed makes a death wish

EPISODE #146 (Mexico #151):
* Venus cries and prays for Steve's life in the hospital chapel.

* Venus, Fr/Ed and Padre Bosco find out from Dr. how Steve is - he is out of surgery but not out of danger or coma. He will be transferred to an ICU room soon. Fr/Ed asks about specific prognosis. Dr. tells him that Steve is really critical.

* Barbie is awake, and thought bubbling about her new wonderful life with Aurora and her grandson.

* In the ICU room, Venus cries at Steve's bedside. She talks about happy dreams for her and Steve. Steve is in a coma. She wants him to wake up and say her name; she can't lose him now. He's the best thing in her life. She promises to learn english - if only he wakes up. Monitor starts to flatline and the alarm rings. Nurse rushes in.

* Fr/Ed and Padre Bosco are grumbling about Steve's beating - they think AB ordered it. Fr/Ed vows revenge but they have to do so without putting Lili's life in jeopardy. Venus is shaking and crying as she runs out to tell them about Steve flatlining.

* In the room, Dr. comes to the rescue and uses the paddles to get Steve's heart beating again.

* In the reception area, Dr. tells Fr/Ed and Venus that Steve is still in a coma and is still extremely critical.

* Miguel is thought bubbling and dreaming about his undying love for Fernanda Elizalde.

* Fer is sleeping and dreaming -- she dreams that she's wearing a white gown in the garden; she sees Fr/Ed in a white suit and runs over towards him; she stops when Erika appears in a white wedding gown and Erika and Fr/Ed walk away; Fer turns and sees Miguel standing there saying her name...

* Fr/Ed continues to talk with Padre Bosco about his plan to have Padre meet with AB - he plans to give himself up in order to end the violence; he doesn't want to lose any more loved ones. Fr/Ed tells Padre to meet with Don Artemio with the deal. Fr/Ed only asks that Steve doesn't die - if anyone should die, it should be him.

* Don Artemio interrogates Lili about the missing diary - AB suspects that Lili gave it to Fr/Ed. Ciro whispers to Lili advice in order to help the "White King" (Fr/Ed). Lili mutters, but it's a secret. Don Artemio has good hearing and questions her about the 'secret'. Lili stays quiet and doesn't answer. He scolds her. She cries that she won't get her trip to Egypt to see the pyramids. AB leaves. Ciro consoles Lili.

* Padre Bosco and Fr/Ed finalize the plan for Padre's meeting with AB. Fr/Ed knows Fer will hate him forever; Padre says he's proud of him and leaves.

* Sister Fidelia meets with Aurora in the bedroom. Aurora wants to meet with Barbie now. Fidelia leaves. Aurora prays for support and forgiveness for the lie she's about to tell Barbie (that she's not leaving the convent).

* Fr/Ed talks with Fer in the reception area about Steve's beating. Lovely comes over crying about Steve still in a coma. Fer walks away. Fr/Ed grumbles to Venus that he suspects someone of the beating. Venus grumbles that she has her own suspicions that the low-life monster Camilo did this. Fr/Ed is stunned, "QUE?!?! CAMILO?!?!?" (Oh, Crap!)

* Barb visits Aurora. Aurora doesn't believe Barbie is sincere and cares about her. Barbie tries to assure Aurora; she can't explain right now since Damian is on his way over now. Barbie shows Aurora the passport and birth certificate she has for Aurora and says that tomorrow she will explain everything, tell the whole truth to Aurora. Tomorrow they will leave the convent and be together forever.

* Fr/Ed tells Fer that they suspect the person who beat up Steve was her monster brother Camilo.

* Padre Bosco arrives at AB's office for the meeting. AB is happy to see him - he's been waiting for the visit.

* Fr/Ed is so angry, he's fuming, and if Camilo was here now, he'd ring Camilo's neck and kill him. Fer has to calm Fr/Ed down, then calls Camilo on her cell phone. Camilo wakes up from his deep sleep to answer the phone. Fer wants him to swear on their mother's grave to tell her the truth, did he beat up Steve and leave him for dead? Camilo laughs and wonders if Steve's still alive then grunts some insults against Steve and hangs up. Fer turns to Fr/Ed and says, it's true, Camilo is responsible.

* AB and Bosco sit down and start their meeting.

* Fr/Ed calls Barbie and asks her to stop the meeting between Padre Bosco and AB. Barbie wants to know what is in it for her. Fr/Ed says he'll promise whatever she wants. She wants him to keep a secret for her. He promises. She agrees to help him out. Fr/Ed prays for divine intervention.

* AB starts to spout about his doubts over the cremains of Eduardo that are supposed to be in Soledad's vault. Padre counters with his arguments that it's true. AB spouts off about his love and devotion to the evil devil and wonders about Padre's teachings in the church. AB thinks all the sermons about good vs. evil are a trap. Padre stands up and defends Jesus and God's love and support. The phone rings and interrupts the philosophical debate. AB tells Barb to call back later, he's busy. She convinces him not to hang up on her - she tells AB that Padre Bosco is there to negotiate for Lili's release and to let her speak with Padre now. AB hands the phone to him. Barbie tells Padre Bosco to leave the house now, that AB thinks he's there to negotiate for Lili's release. They hang up. AB wonders what that was all about. Padre tells him that he wants to negotiate for Lili's release.

* Barbie calls Fr/Ed to tell him that she has completed her part of the deal.

* Fer and Lovely talk in the reception area. Lovely explains to Fer that what she did to Camilo had to be done - he's a despicable low-life and she had no intention to marry him. Lovely leaves. Fr/Ed and Fer talk about Camilo - Fer wants her brother to pay for all his crimes.

* AB and Padre Bosco continue their discussion - about Padre wanting Lili released to his custody. AB wonders about Eduardo Juarez. Padre says Eduardo is dead.

* As Barbie waits in her car outside the convent front entrance, Aurora meets with Damian in the courtyard. Aurora tells Damian what they talked about and she promises not to leave with Barbie.

* Padre Bosco assures AB that he will show him the dead body of Eduardo Juarez Cruz. AB is stunned. What body? I thought you said that Eduardo was cremated and his ashes are with his mother's. Padre Bosco said that's a lie. An unknown man was cremated and placed there instead. So where's the body? asks AB. Bosco says buried in a grave in the church's cemetery, undisturbed and at peace. AB has more questions and suspicions. Padre Bosco silently thought bubbles a prayer, and then tells AB to give Lili to him first. AB says, no, I want to see Eduardo's body first.

* Damian explains again to Aurora not to leave with Barbie, just to find out what Barbie's secret is for him. Damian leaves.

* Outside the convent, Barbie sees Damian walk to his car. She calls him on the cell phone and tells him to deliver a load of explosives to another locations in two hours. Damian writes down the address.

* Fer is about to leave - she picks up her purse, and leaves her cell phone on the chair. Fr/Ed asks her about her late night date with Miguel last night. Fer doesn't have too much to say. Fr/Ed is jealous of Miguel. Fer is stunned and tells him that he's engaged to Erika so why is he concerned. He explains how he's dying of jealousy inside, and reveals all his jealous thoughts about her and Miguel. She laughs and tells him to chill out. She reminds him again that he's about to marry Erika. He wants to continue the discussion. Erika hops out of the elevator and interrupts. Erika stays with Fr/Ed as Fer leaves.

* In the hallway, Fer runs into Padre Bosco. Fr/Ed enters the hallway and greets Padre - they very briefly explain how they met to Fer. Fr/Ed gives Fer her cell phone. She leaves.

* Damian is driving in his car, mumbling about how he wants to discover the secrets of the evil Hyena.

* Fr/Ed explains to Padre Bosco that he had to make a deal with the devil to stop the meeting - that Camilo was responsible for Steve's beating not AB as they thought. Padre Bosco tells him the bad news - that AB wants to see Eduardo's body!

* Barbie meets with AB in the office - she tells AB that Gonzo is about to sign his will and all the documents over to her in the name of Barbara Greco. AB seems upset and lunges at her - he wants to know if she's even thinking about double-crossing him.

Mañana es Para Siempre, Tuesday, September 15--Ep #145: Pobre de Esteve!

Artemio Bravo promises Padre Bosco that if he's lying, he (Artemio) will put Gonzo's daughter's remains ("restos") next to the remains of the artist formerly known as Eduardo Juarez. Lili's life is in Padre Bosco's hands.

Martina happily reports to her McDreamy that Venus and Esteve finally got their shit together. "Well, then, don't you think it's time we started thinking about our future?" he replies. I think he's just pissed that Esteve beat him to the punch. Martina asks if he's suggesting "que nos matrimoniemos" (very slangy for "that we get married"). Martina doesn't have an objection, as such, but she doesn't want to rush things. And she wants to do a "carrera" (degree course) as a nurse first. Mc Dreamy is McPouty about waiting for three years, but Martina think they'll just get to know each other better and besides, she plans to marry for life.

Venus worries that she said "yes" to Esteve too quickly. But she's worrying while draping her arms around his neck, so I don't think he minds. He says he can give her more time to think if she wants it, but he warns her that if she says "no" he'll just keep chasing her until she says "yes." So Venus says she'll give him a permanent "yes," in that case. They fall on the couch together and get all smoochy. That splint on her pinky is really distracting. Especially because they didn't give an in-character reason for it. In the midst of the smooching Venus asks for a favor. Well, that's just dirty pool. The "favor" is that Esteve not give her expensive presents after they're married. Honey, sweetie, you're marrying a rich guy…let him give you whatever kind of presents he wants to! It's what they do! She specifically requests no "alhajas" (gems, jewelry). Plus no sex until marriage. Esteve agrees and tells her he luuuuurves her.

Evil Barbie and Gonzo the meat puppet sit down to dinner. Gonzo happily reminds her that she'll have all his worldly goods soon. He's glad the kids can't leave her out on the street after he's dead. Barbie comes over to hang on Gonzo's neck like the noose she is and thought bubbles that Artemio won't get a cent of that money. It's all going to go to Power Milk and she'll take her daughter and grandchild away to live a life of luxury. Pris and her fabulous boobs, in a lovely blue knit, come into the dining room accompanied by an Anibal smiling so broadly it looks like he's auditioning for the role of Joker. It will just be the four of them for dinner. Camilo doesn't live there anymore and Fer is over at Erika's. Anibal waxes rhapsodic about how their spawn is going to bring so much happiness into the house.

Fer, listens to Erika ooh and aah over her engagement ring, her wedding linens from Spain, and so on. Erika quite insensitively says to Fer "isn't getting married, like, the best thing ever!" Um, yeeah, only second to getting divorced from a sleazebag, I suppose. How Fer refrains from tossing that glass of red wine in her "friend"'s face is beyond me. A guest arrives at the Astorga's house…the long-awaited Miguel?

Padre Bosco pays a visit to Las Animas, looking for Franco. Esteve answers the door, says Franco isn't around, introduces Padre Bosco to Venus, and then offers to give Franco a call while Venus entertains the Padre. No, not like that. A little kid comes up to the door. It's like Grand Central Station around there. The kid has come to tell Esteve that Franco's car broke down out at the road and Franco needs help…NO ESTEVE, DON'T GO!

Fer eats a plum and avoids talking to Franco. Erika announces the arrival of Mr. September from the 2009 Playgirl Latin Lover calendar. I mean, hubba, hubba. Even Franco senses that this is some stiff competition indeed. And my mind just went somewhere entirely different. What? Oh, yeah, MEPS…uh, lots of smiling and uncomfortable giggling, and giddy giggling, and stoic silence and dental-ad smiling. Guess who's who. It's just too much hotness, so we go to commercials.

Fer hugs and kisses Miguel, who tells her she's pretty. Erika introduces Franco. The guys shake hands. Miguel doesn't look the least bit intimidated. Mr. 5ft wonders if Miguel was trying to put the moves on Franco. I must say, that grin is maybe a tad too friendly. Colunga graduates from acting with twitches of the jaw to twitches of the eye. Erika looks like she's imagining a threesome.

Sorry, my mind is just permanently entrenched in the gutter this evening!

Esteve runs along the country road.

Miguel says Fer only replied to one of his letters. Erika hints Fer was busy writing to someone else. Miguel blames himself for Fer's marriage, having not been insistent enough. Yeah, you make him pay…and pay, and pay. Fer tells him she's not married anymore. She thinks she married Damian too soon, so of course their marriage didn't last. Erika says Fer is doing wonderfully…and how is Miguel? Well, he's been suffering from love too. He got his heart broken in Spain. Well, if you've got to get your heart broken somewhere…. And when is this happy couple getting married, Miguel wonders. "In three weeks," says Franco's mouth, "and thank you SO much for asking" says the shake of his head. Miguel wanted to get married and have a family, and maybe even a dog and a cat, but it's hard to find the right woman, so that's why he envies Erika and Franco. Before Erika can invite Miguel to the friendly foursome in the country, Ruthie calls them all to dinner. Miguel escorts Fer and Erika gushes to Franco about how it's all going perfectly.

Esteve is still looking for Franco's car when he's hit from behind with a pipe. We all knew this was coming. It's that orange waste of space with a cat butt for a mouth, Camilo.

Being the little turd he is, he brought his four frat buddies with him. Esteve calls them cowards. Camilo kicks Esteve a few times, then leaves his buddies to finish the job while he watches, like the spineless little worm he is.

Venus suggests that maybe the Padre needs a stronger drink than coffee to calm his nerves. Padre finally accepts a tequila.

Miguel shows Fer a picture of Erika's country house. Now she invites them. Miguel accepts, then Fer does. Franco, looking like he's got a huge wad of food stuffed in his mouth, chews and stews.

The beating of Steve continues.

Erika tells some funny story about her and Fer getting in trouble with her aunt for supposedly breaking a nice piece of porcelain. Fer joins in, reminding Erika that the following year, her aunt locked up all the breakables before they came over. The last time they were at the house was the summer before Fer and Er started college. Miguel was already doing his Masters at the time and they met at the Mexican embassy's party on the 15th to celebrate El Grito (http://www.inside-mexico.com/featureindep.htm). After that, all three of them were inseperable until Fer left without saying goodbye. Erika crows that this is going to be a very significant trip for all of them. Miguel invites Fer out to dinner tomorrow night, while Franco looks positively offended by the idea. Fer accepts. The foursome toast. Franco mutters under his breath.

Venus leaves the house looking for Esteve, but she doesn't go very far before coming back and telling Padre Bosco she can't find him. PB suggests she call Eduardo, uh, Franco, but Venus doesn't have his cell number. PB asks about Gardenia, but she's not there anymore. Venus calls Steve's cell. PB says he has to speak to Franco urgently.

Steve's phone rings while he lies on the ground bleeding.

PB suggests they both go look for him. Venus grabs a flashlight and they depart.

Artemio asks Lili if she remembers where the diary is. He tells her she knows why she shouldn't have handed it over without his permission. He tells her the trip is cancelled--"no pyramids!"--and Lili cries. Artemio tells her that if she doesn't tell him where the diary is, he'll get very, very angry at her. Lili huddles by her bed and cries.

The double date continues, without audio. Franco looks pissy.

Venus asks the Padre what's going on while they look for Esteve, but Padre doesn't say anything except that they need to keep looking.

Fer thanks Er for a wonderful dinner. Miguel asks her to call a taxi, standing way too close to Fer, but Erika says Fer will take him home. To whose home, she doesn't say. Miguel asks if she doesn't have a problem taking him to the hotel, and she doesn't. Er smiles a lot and hugs Franco.

Venus and PB are getting worried and they've almost gotten to the road. Venus is sure it's the right path to get there, but Padre Bosco sees a "brecha" (gap) and they go to investigate.

Fer gets in the jeep.

Franco disentangles himself from Erika with a promise to call her later (big lie…he never calls, why would he start now?).

Miguel gets in the jeep. He can't believe he's got her there, so close to him. He wonders if she remembered him too. They stare at each other in the jeep. Kiss or drive, people, you can't do both. Franco sits in his car watching them talk and laugh in his rearview mirror. He finally starts his car and peels out. Fer starts the jeep and tells Miguel to buckle up.

Venus and Padre Bosco shuffle along, Venus, oddly, calling for "Don Franco" and Padre Bosco calling for Steve. Did they get a tow truck? Why didn't Steve answer his phone? Venus finally sees a body. She leaves PB behind to run to Steve. She lies on his chest and cries, while PB asks God "Why?" Well, my answer is that that's what happens when you tell rapists to get out of town instead of turning them in to the cops so they can rot in jail where they belong.

Franco pulls over to let Fer pass him so he can follow the jeep. Fer talks to Miguel about how he remembers her. He remembers she left on a Sunday, he didn't have her address. Fer reminds him that he left Spain too at around the same time. He says he got a job in Ginebra (Geneva) and he left with his feelings of a "pretendiente rechazado" (rejected suitor). Fer says he's exaggerating and laughs that they were just good friends. Miguel says he never told her, but he fell in love with her when he met her. Fer can't believe it. Fer wants him to continue his resume…how many years did he live in Geneva? Which means "Well, 'living' as in 'living', without feeling a stab of pain in my heart every time I thought of you, breathing without sighing, getting my appetite back, sleeping without being startled…is that the kind of life you were referring to?" Fer says he's exaggerating again. But he insists it's the truth and nothing but the truth.

Meanwhile, in his car, Franco has his phone headset in, but is talking to Fer, telling her not to do this, that he's having an attack of jealousy (celos), that he loves her and she knows it. He talks about how it's such a torment to have her so close and not be able to show her all he feels. And now this "intruso" (intruder) shows up in her life. Yeah, yeah, I know she's supposed to end up with him, but if he really "loves" her, "loves" as in "wants her to be happy", then shouldn't he be happy that a decent not-sleeping-with-her-mother-in-law kind of guy is interested in her? OK, adjusting beanie.

Fer asks about his work, his family. Brief PSA about Economistas Sin Fronteras… they try to develop programs for populations in marginalized areas. Miguel says they're opening an office in Mexico. See what I mean, he's perfect for her…they can be the power couple in Mexican social activism. He's going to be spending some time in Mexico. Fer really, really wants to know more about his "work." And luckily for them, they can talk about it on their trip. She asks again about his family. His mom is living in Columbia. He's still single. He wants to know if that person who was in her heart when he met her is still there or if she's forgotten him.

Actually, he's in the car behind you. Finally getting the call from Steve's cell phone, as a crying Venus says Steve's dying. On a grammatical note, what she says is "se nos muere" which literally means "he's dying on us"--the "nos" makes it reflexive. It's also used in other constructions, such as, "se me rompio el vaso", "the glass broke on me"; "se me descompuso el auto", "my car broke down on me". It's almost as if the speaker is taking the action personally, or at least in this case, Venus is pointing out that Steve "dying" isn't just happening to Steve, it is affecting Venus and Franco. If she didn't give a crap, there wouldn't be the emphasis, it would just be "se muere" or "está muriendo" or "se va a morir".

Fer pulls the jeep up to the Suites International *****. She tells Miguel she's surprised by everything he's said. She never imagined he was in love with her. Miguel says he feels better now that he's told her how he felt. Fer tries to minimize it…we were young, etc. They agree to see each other tomorrow. Miguel wishes her a good night and leans over. He tells her he was really excited to see her again as he strokes her hair. He moves in for a kiss, but Fer gets it on the cheek. Eh, not sure how I'm feeling about his shoes as she pulls away…looks like sneakers. I'll let it slide for now.

Evil Barbie talks to Damian via phone about whether he can obtain explosives. He wonders what for…hasn't he learned not to ask? And also, for blowing things up, duh! He asks if she's blowing up Lactos. She assures him it's for a good cause and she wants them by tomorrow. He'll get them for her as long as he gets paid well. She tells him she'll call him tomorrow with the delivery information. They hang up and Damian wonders if she's planning to blow up the convent to get Aurora out. But he supposes she'd be dead if Barbie did that.

At the hospital, a nurse hands over Esteve's personal effects. The doctor will be out to talk to them when she's done operating. Venus cries that she wants to go to the chapel and pray. Padre Bosco approves of that move. I wonder if she'll ask him to hear her confession. That's a whole other novela in and of itself! She heads off. Franco takes Esteve's wallet out of the envelope and notices it's still stuffed with plenty of gringo dollars. He shows Padre Watson the money and says this wasn't a robbery. Padre Bosco finally gets to tell him that Artemio Bravo came to see him. He thinks he was too late and what happened to Esteve is due to Artemio. He says Bravo threatened him that if he can't prove Eduardo is dead, Bravo will kill Lili. How's he supposed to prove that?

Artemio smokes a cigar and reviews the photos of the Elizalde family. He tells the picture of Lili that since she betrayed him, she'll suffer the same fate as her mother. Does anybody remember those Richard Simmons Deal-A-Meal cards? Lili's card just got moved into the "dead" food group.

Franco remembers meeting with Artemio and Artemio saying he had to meet Steve in person or cancel further visits with Lili. Padre Bosco is sure it was Artemio and there's nothing Franco can do about it. Franco says if Artemio is after his friends, he must pay! It's not that simple, Padre Bosco reminds him. The man is powerful and terrible! Padre Bosco says retaliating will only mean handing himself over to Bravo as Eduardo Juarez. Not following the logic on that one. Franco swears that if "anything" happens to Steve (which, come on, it already has, how much more do you need?) he'll tear Bravo to pieces.

Fer sneaks into the house. Erika is waiting for her in the library. Fer sends Tomasa to bed and goes into the library to see what Erika wants. Erika says she couldn't sleep without finding out how it went. "Se te declaro?" (Did he declare his love?) Fer thinks she's moving too fast. What's the hurry to get Fer paired off. Erika says Miguel's way cuter than before. Fer admits they had a nice chat, he used to be in love with her, but that's all. Er wonders if Fer has feelings for him too, but Fer reminds her that animals don't mate in captivity. I mean, she says she's feeling a lot of pressure. Er just wants her not to pass up this prime opportunity. She says that Franco said they made a good looking pair. She even calls up Franco so he can tell Fer himself. She hands over her phone and Franco tells her he's at the hospital in Toluca, Steve had an "accident" and he's in surgery. Fer asks if there's anything she can do to help, but he says there's nothing, so she tells him she hopes everything turns out ok and passes the phone back to Erika.

Venus cries in the chapel. She asks God to save Steve because he's a good guy and deserves to live. She's willing to trade herself for him…having been a sinner and not having parents, while Steve does have family and would be missed. Aw, don't sell yourself short, there. It was just mud wrestling and sex, it's not like you killed anybody. She's pretty far down on the ladder of evil compared to people like Artemio Bravo and Evil Barbie. She's not even evil, more like junior league naughty.

The doctor tells Franco the operation was a success, but that doesn't guarantee Steve's recovery. Venus comes back to the lobby in time to hear the doc say that Esteve had some cranial hemorrhaging that was drained to relieve pressure, but due to the severity of the trauma, he's in a coma. Well, mark that one off on the Telenovela Bingo Card. What are we still missing? Amnesia, fake pregnancy, falling down the stairs…any others? Esteve is in Intensive Care for observation and the next 72 hours are critical. He's in "extremely" serious condition.

Evil Barbie lies in bed with Gonzo and thought bubbles that she's not going to keep catering to Artemio's whims. She doesn't care what happens to the Elizalde family. She's got a reason for living now. She has a family and she's going to devote her life to it.

That's all for today. Tune in tomorrow when we no longer find out exactly what happens, because we're too close to the end. Woo hoo!

MEPS finale: recappers, phone home.

Hi,

Argh, I've lost the email, but Jody pointed out that Mañana... is ending soon and she thinks there may be a 3-1/2 hour finale. Do I have that right? Which Monday is it? Anyway, do you MEPS recappers want to do a tag-team final night?

Also, please check in with me and let me know if you are continuing on into the next show. Is it Sortilegio?

MEPS 9/14: Esteve brings roses. Flor was zarandeada, not stirred.

Tonight, much pointless rehashing. Read this summary twice if you crave redundancy.

Previouslys: Errika lives up to her name by perversely vowing to herself to continue on the wrong path and make Fr/Ed marry her "if it's the last thing I do." Yes, you'll have a happy life that way, you nutball. Also, we get to re-enjoy Fer's showdown with her sleaze brother Cam - if he doesn't get the hell out of Dodge, forever, she's going to tell everyone he raped Aurora.

Cam: "I did Santi a favor!" Fer: "You drugged her!" Cam: "You can't prove that!"

That useless waste of floorspace, Daffy, is crying in his bedroom. The phone rings, Barb sees it's Fr/Ed. "My dear, I will get you some of your special brew, uh, milk and honey," she says as she leaves the room. [Maybe that stuff she's been giving him for a quarter century eroded his IQ.]

Fr/Ed tells Barb he kept Cam from branding Loafly and that after what's happened, he and Esteve and all of Power Milk will eschew the Elizaldes unless they throw Cam out on his ass. Barb sez fine. Fr/Ed passes the phone to Cam who commences whining but Barb orders him to do as he was told and disappear. He throws the phone. Golllll! We love phone-wreckers.

Cam insults his sister, calling her Fr/Ed's rag doll. Fr/Ed goes after him, bloodies his lip, and shouts "Get out of here you garbage you!" Cam staggers out into the dark and I was hoping for a crocodile to come out of the night and eat him, but instead Cam just steals Fer's jeep and goes crawling to Barb. And threatens her: "Keep Fer from blowing the whistle on me, or I'm going to squeal on you." Barb tells him Daffy is just about to write Cam out of the will entirely, she'll try to smooth things over if Cam obeys her completely...

Gardenia gets the bed and Flor sleeps on the floor. Gardenia nags her, why hasn't she told about being zarandeada (shaken, knocked around) by Cam? Flor says he'll get what's coming to him. Jacinto and Margarita enjoy the story of the night's circus.

Artemio realizes his mother's diary is gone.

Just when you think Daffy can't get any more useless and pathetic, he does. He weeps as he transfers his considerable worldly goods to his saintly wife.

Fer comes in. Daffy delivers a honking big lecture: "The birth of each of you made me proud. What happened last night, it was a mortal blow to my fatherhood! As an only child, I wanted a big family full of love, solidarity, security, decency, honesty. When did my dream get lost? I didn't notice! Here I am with all my stuff - why aren't we happy, we're as miserable as indigents, nothing can repair our suffering. I worked for the future, so did my father and grandfather, and now the future is here, and look at it! I should have spent less time making money and more time working on your spiritual development."

Fer says she'll try to get Lili back, Daffy says it's what HE should have done. Blah, blah. As Fer's coming down the stairs (nobody's fallen down this staircase yet, no puede ser!!!), Barb crosses from stage right. Fer: "He's writing over all his stuff to you at this very moment."

Barb breaks into a sunny smile and murmurs blandishments to Fer, who ignores them and says: "Just promise you'll leave as soon as you get the dough." Barb says she will, no worries. Rrrring! It's Artemio, he demands her presence. She says she can't right now, she'll come later, and hangs up on him.

Artemio yells at Lili about giving the diary to Franco.

Anibal shows up at Damian's, dumps the hit money, and leaves saying (I love this phrase) "Hasta nunca." (It means, until never!) Damian mutters to himself, "I'll be deciding about that."

At Silvestre's place, Martina and Loafly aka Venus are gabbing a mile a minute when there's a loud knock on the door. They think it's Cam come back to finish the job, as he'd promised. Silvester and the girls pick up weapons and then throw the door open, it's Esteve! quite surprised by this hostile reception.

Martina drags her dad out the door to go shopping so Esteve can give Venus the big bunch of red roses he's brought and, with not too much hemming and hawing, he tells her he's in love with her. She has a hissy fit, imagining that he's making fun of her, but he tells her to look him in the eye. "I love you, I don't care about your past. Marry me." After he goes through it a few more times there is kissing and she accepts. And Martina and her Dad come back and all rejoice.

Esteve asks if she minds leaving to go live in the U.S., she says she doesn't know a bit of English, he says he'll teach her, she asks, are you going to desert Fr/Ed? He says, no Fr/Ed will return to the U.S. as soon as he's done here.

"But what about everybody thinking you're my uncle?" "Yes, that's a problem, we'll just have to keep being relatives for the Elizaldes..."

Fer and Fr/Ed have a poorly written, boring rehash. She presses him to tell her much more about what's going on, he refuses. She just has to keep trusting him. They agree they must find out what's up with Barb and Aurora. They hatch a plan to pit Damian and Barb against each other, divide and conquer. Fer calls Aurora to tell her about it.

Damian visits Aurora again, asks what gives with Barb? "I still don't know - but she's coming to see me again tomorrow." "Then I'll come afterwards and you can tell me what she says."

Barb tries to reassure Artemio that all is square with Fr/Ed but Artemio doesn't trust him any more and decides to investigate on his own.

When Barb shows up at the convent with chocolates, Aurora deploys the divide and conquer plan; she says, "There's something I haven't been telling you. Damian threatened me, he said he'd bring me back here only if I promised not to leave without his permission." Barb is impactada. "When you see him, Aurora, tell him I'm coming back tomorrow but just to say goodbye." [Remember, the plan is for her to high-tail it now that she'll have all the dough.] "That way, he'll leave you alone."

Aurora presses hard, asking why Barb is treating her so nicely. "I'm dying to tell you, but I can't until we leave together." Aurora says she won't leave with Barb unless Barb tells her! Barb promises to tell her everything when she comes tomorrow morning.

Artemio visits Father Bosco and threatens him again. "I don't believe Eduardo Juarez is dead. I study my enemies carefully, as does any man who has nothing BUT enemies. Eduardo would have been too tough after his rotten childhood to commit suicide, and besides, he was well taught by you yourself that suicide is a sin."

Bosco feebly sticks to his story. Artemio: "If this is a lie I'll kill all the Elizaldes, it will be on your head."

MEPS 09/11/09: FIREWORKS AT THE FIESTA OR, IF IT’S AN OPEN BAR, MIGHT AS WELL MAKE MINE A TRIPLE!

Capítulo #148 (but after tonight who’s counting?)

As Viewerville buckles in for the ride tonight: in one part of the city, Tío ‘Temio has crept into Lili’s room to watch her sleep and considers the tie that binds the two of them together; in another, Vlad begins his date with Destiny and gets into the cab whose driver is actually the hit-man who’s been hired to kill him. At the club, the party’s started, the liquor is flowing, the music’s playing, and the guests are getting’ down. The M.C. asks the conjugal couple to come up to the dais and profess to all (who are forced to listen) why they’ve chosen to spend the rest of their lives with each other. (Viewerville holds its breath in anticipation of the fireworks display. It’s gonna be grand.)

Tomasa and Gardenia talk Flor into stopping for two minutes to listen to the big spiel from the bride and groom to be and to catch the consequent gossip. Natasha sits stone-faced and pouts. (I can’t figure this broad out. Personally, I’d have left already and gone home to scrawl Camilo’s name in black marker on my pillow case and used the pillow for a punching bag.) Priscila, Martina, Estev, Fernanda, and Fr/Eduardo all wait on pins and needles for the inevitable, but for very different reasons.

Vlad wistfully takes out his cell in the cab and begins to dial.

Cadmilo begins by saying that around there they say “that for every turkey [guajalote= fool, turkey] comes his Christmas Eve.” (I cannot resist a “well done, my foul fowl, well done!”) Pris’s cell rings but the other turkey in the Elizalde flock of gobblers, spineless Anyballs, refuses to let her answer. “Don’t answer that! We don’t know what might be happening.” (Three guesses, you jerk.) Vlad can only leave a message on Pris’s voice mail. He tells her he is on his way to meet with Damian and Jacobo to draw up the papers for his paternity suit. “I don’t know why at this moment I feel the need to hear your voice, but, well, anyway, I know you’re busy. You know what? Each time the day gets closer that I can shout from the rooftops what I feel for you and for my child…” He sends her a kiss and all his love then hangs up.

Cad the Clod continues. “Well, surprise, surprise! I’m getting married! --Loafly, je je, I imagine everybody envies you. Je, je. Seriously, I’ll tell you the reason why I’m marrying Loafly.” He whirls her around to show her off. “It’s obvious!” The crowd smiles and chuckles. However, as we all know, charming Cad doesn’t know enough to stop while he’s ahead; he makes a totally obscene comment that Loafly not only has a lovely face but can cook too, so he says, he’s planning on putting a kitchen next to the bedroom so they won’t have to walk far. Bada-boom. A few polite chuckles emanate from the dumbstruck crowd while Gonzo and the gang at the head table hang their heads and start checking for hangnails. Cad, our mental midget of honor, searches his pea-brain and says he is marrying her because… he “adores” her. (Yeah, that’s a good $2 word. It’ll do.) Guffaws and applause are roundly given by all, including Tomasa, who Denia immediately chides for daring to clap for “that woman-beating lazybones.”

Pris slyly sneaks her cell into her purse and plays the pregnant-and-gotta-pee card. She heads off towards the ladies’ room to check her messages. After listening to Vlad’s voice-mail she decides to throw caution to the wind and returns his call. (Viewerville is relieved –you should pardon the pun. Yippee!!!) Vlad asks his “cabby” about a detour (I think) and this gives him a chance to take Pris’ phone call. Pris, tells him to listen and not ask questions and to pass the phone to the cabdriver. “How did you know I was in a cab?” “--Pass the phone to the driver, now!” The driver takes the phone and listens to what she has to say.

Back at the engagement party, Cad gives the mike over to Venus. She smiles to the crowd and quips, “There’s nothing more tedious than a man who’s a bore.” (What happened to Ms. Sweetness and Light all of a sudden? Two atta-girls and a thumbs-up! This is gonna be great!) More polite titters from the crowd. She thanks the guests for coming and says it’s important they be there to witness what takes place this evening. She introduces her “Uncle Estev” and tells the crowd that he knows nothing about what she’s going to tell them tonight. Pris returns to the table at this point and plays the other pregnant card she’s kept hidden: the I-feel-like-puking-and-I’m-leaving one. (Guess that cleavage was good for something after all.) She begs off for the night saying she’s feeling sick, gets the keys for Anyball’s car and leaves the ballroom.

Venus tells the crowd that Cad is a very amusing guy. He loves to play annoying jokes, especially on women and poor people, those who work for him. Say what? Cad shoots her a dirty look. “Camilo thinks he’s very genial and amusing. He’s the first to enjoy his own jokes, though you don’t even understand any of them.” The crowd laughs. Venus continues. “Like when as a child he whipped open Jacinto’s back with a riding crop –an employee of the hacienda who still keeps the scars as a memory!!” Fer and Fr/Ed and the rest of the crowd start sitting at attention. “Jacinto Cordero told me this and he still doesn’t understand it because according to you (she turns to Cad) he’s a stupid Indian!” Fr/Ed looks guardedly over at Estev who smiles back like, “Don’t worry. This is great stuff!” Denia tells Flor she’s decided this hooker isn’t such a bad babe after all, considering.

Venus doesn’t stop there. Cad’s obviously pissed but too startled to do much more than listen with the rest of the crowd. “Camilo is a real man’s man and don’t you doubt it; but not for the obvious reasons, not for the reasons you think. No, a few days ago I was able to prove just what kind of little man Camilo really is, but I want to be clear that it wasn’t with me.” Natasha’s all ears now. “No, you don’t know this Camiiiii, but I got out of the house one night because I wanted to surprise you. But, as the saying goes, the surprise was on me. It was just the reverse.” [Salir el tiro por la culata] She turns back to the guests. “When I entered the bedroom I discovered my fiancé in the jacuzzi making love. Do you know who Camilo was with?” She gets ready to lower the boom as Natasha braces for the humiliation of the century. Cad races over to tell Loafly she’s gone too far, but Venus keeps right on truckin’. “I confess it was the greatest surprise of my life.” Cad tries unsuccessfully to grab the mike from her. “But Cami, we can’t leave the guests in doubt about who you were smooching with in the Jacuzzi….” Gonzo wakes up from his senile stupor. “No, you can’t guess. You could never guess. Camilo Elizalde, the most manly playboy in the region was with…was with another man!!” (Viewerville jumps, cackles, guffaws and yes, cheers, at the --dare I say-- cold-cocking Hubby says Venus has just landed him with.) The guests who were politely boozin’ and snoozin’ through this part of the bore-fest are suddenly stopped-in-mid-yawn impactados. Cad has just been branded with the scarlet “H”.

Confused chatter fills the room. Cad looks around in horror. Anibal looks over at Estev wondering what he must think of this family. Estev just shrugs back like “Don’t look at me. What do I know?” then secretly smiles to himself. Eduardo fights the urge to smile it seems while looking on admiringly at Venus. Err enjoys a secret giggle. Martina has a huge grin on her face. Fer looks on and has to remember to breathe. Gonzo cringes and hides his eyes. Barbie drinks in the whole delicious scene.

Meanwhile, the “cabby” pulls in at the airport. Vlad is surprised to see Pris drive up next to them. She orders him to get into the car and then goes over to the driver. She hands the man a bag of jewelry and tells him it’s just like she told him on the phone: she’ll give him double what they would have paid him to kill Vlad. He takes the jewels, bites them to test them (Classy!) and only then agrees to make Dam and Jacobo believe that he did the deed and killed Vlad. The cab drives off. Pris gets back into her car and explains to Vlad what just happened. “They were going to kill you! Anibal hired Damian to bump you off [liquidar]. You have to get far away from here. If you love your child like you say, go to Monterray or wherever, the farther away the better!” Vlad says he refuses to either leave her alone or to run away like some coward. Pris seems to soften. “If you only knew the Hell I was going through the past few hours worrying that they were going to kill you! I don’t want that to happen. I don’t want to have to tell my child once he’s born that his father is dead. I want him with you, Vladimir.” Vlad can’t believe what he’s hearing. “Are you serious?” She says she is.

Pris puts her hand on Vlad’s cheek. “I understood finally that my child couldn’t have a better father than you and because of that we’re going to have to make a few sacrifices, ok?” He smiles and nods. She tells him they’ll have to wait a few months. “You are not to make a single phone call, understand?” He nods again. “As soon as the baby is born I swear I’ll call you and then—only then—will we be able to plan our future together.” She cries tears of relief. He cries tears of happiness. (Viewerville shares a collective “Aw-w-w.”)

Back at the party, Venus races outside and is ready to leave for good. Estev chases after her. She tells him he can calm down because she’s not going to do anything more. He asks her where she intends to go and asks her to wait. He wants her to stay, he says. Venus is in no mood to listen, though.

Inside the circus continues. Cad is screaming desperately at the awestruck guests that it’s all a lie. They know him better than that, he tells them. Natasha gets up to leave but thinks better of it and goes over to him. She tells him never to come looking for her again. He tells everyone that she’s just another sore, pissed off female and not to pay attention to her. He rushes over to Errika and tells them all she’s his ex-girlfriend and she’ll vouch for him. Errika takes the mike and says, well if you’re talking about Jacinto’s scars, yes, I’ve seen them. “If you’re referring, though, to your sexual preferences, I always had my doubts about you, Camilo!” He cringes. She giggles silently. His buddies yell back that there’s no way out of this one. Cad tries to tell his father it isn’t so, but Gonzo only yells back that he’s an embarrassment and he is totally ashamed of him. Barbie thinks to herself that this isn’t anything compared to what’s waiting for you, Camilo. Across the room Flor, Tomasa and Denia can’t stop laughing at the way he got burned and at how much he actually deserved it. [ganarse a pulso]

Outside, Venus explains to Estev that she actually lied about Cad. “I did find him with somebody in the Jacuzzi, but it was a woman. That woman, Natasha. If I’d have told the truth his buddies would have just laughed at him and I’d have been no more than the fuming fiancée!” Estev can’t help laughing. She wants to know what’s so funny. He tries to explain that it’s because he’d spent days and days trying to think of an elaborate plan to teach the guy a lesson and in the end it was Venus who managed to do it. Though, he admits, he has to confess that he was afraid he’d failed somehow because she seemed determined to actually marry Camilo. She doesn’t understand the irony and takes offense. “Oh, so you always thought that being a whore I wasn’t going to lose the chance to bag [pescarse de] that worthless Camilo and his millions?” Estev tells her that it never entered his mind but before he can explain any further, Martina comes running out yelling for the two of them to go back inside. Cad has started kicking up a major ruckus [trifulca].

Back inside the ballroom, Cad’s buddies have to hold him back from jumping Fr/Ed. Cad’s screaming for Loafly and Estev. “If it’s like that then where are your business partner and his lying niece?” Fr/Ed says he doesn’t know. “--I told you already that I haven’t got the slightest idea! I don’t know where they went and I don’t know why Loafly behaved that way. You ought to know!” Cad has to be held back again. “—Are you trying to put one over on me??!!” [verle la cara= make a fool of] Fer jumps in -making a play on the word “cara” --and slaps him royally. “And I’m going to tell you what shameless nerve you have!” [tenir cara = to be shameless]. Thwack!! His friends stop him from slapping her back. “What Loafly said about you being gay is going to seem like praise compared to what I have to say about you, Camilo!!” Cad breaks loose from his friends and motions to Fr/Ed and Estev that it ain’t over till it’s over and walks away.

Gonzo acts like it’s just another night in Dodge City and asks Babs where Pris and AB went cuz it’s time to leave. She tells him Pris went home sick and AB went for their car. Gonzo says well, at least Pris was saved this shamefully embarrassing scene. Babs commiserates and says well, you can assume that as of tonight Loafly has canceled the engagement. (Do ya think?) Gonzo shakes his head. “How embarrassing.” (For him or for her, Gonz?) The first thing he worries about is that it might have wrecked their partnership with Powhere Meelk. Babs says not to take it so hard, that it could just be an act of jealousy on Loafly’s part. Gonzo, though, is worried that their good name is now in question and his fatherly pride has hit rock-bottom. (Translation: they’re now the laughing stock of the county and he’s forever to be seen for the piss-poor papa he really is.)

The hit-man is back at Vlad’s now and Jacobo is eager to hear the details. Dam says he doesn’t want to hear about it; then suddenly, in a sick fit of laughter he says, “The point is that now Good Friend Vladimir has little wings and is playing his harp in heaven.” The two slobs nearly choke on their spit they are laughing so hard. The hit-man thinks soberly to himself, “If they only knew. If they only knew that his fairy godmother managed to save him.” He gets up straight-faced and says he’s tired and he’s going home if it’s all right by them. They say fine and Jacobo gives him his blood-money. Dam tells him to lay low for a while. (Hubby says it’s some racket this guy’s got! He gets paid triple for doing absolutely nothing!) The hit-man, totally disgusted with the scene, leaves. Dam and Jacobo toast each other. Jacobo asks what comes next. Dam thinks a bit and says something like what does he think about skinning La Hiena?

In the meantime, Errika gives Fer a lift home. Fer says she hopes Err doesn’t mind if she doesn’t invite her in but it’s been one of the longest nights in her life and she’s beat. Err says no problem, but before Fer gets out of the car Err asks why Fer changed her mind about coming to the party. Fer tells her that Franco called and asked her to come because he suspected something bad was going to happen and thought she should be there. Err tells Fernanda that Franco is the best thing that happened to her and she wants to thank her since they met at Fer’s wedding. So, she says, she wants to do something really special for Fer. Errika invites her over to supper with her and Franco the next night and won’t accept no for an answer. Fer says fine, obviously figuring that’s going to be the second longest night of her life. Err, though, apparently has something else in mind and licks her lips in anticipation as Fer goes inside for the night.

Over at Las Animas, Estev is upset because Venus is nowhere to be found. He starts to explain to Eddie how he was congratulating Venus on her flawless strategy when Martina showed up. Suddenly Ed says that’s it! Martina! They are both sure to be at Silvestre’s place. Estev tells Ed that he wants to say good-bye to Venus before he leaves. Ed asks him if he plans on leaving without telling her how much he loves her. Estev doesn’t answer.

At Silvestre’s place, Venus is telling him and Martina that she’s got an aunt and uncle in Zacatecas and figures she’ll be able to get a job there. Silvestre says considering what she pulled tonight on the Elizalde’s the further away she gets the better. Martina thinks Venus needs to stick around to let the gringuito make his play for her, but Venus says he’s no different from all the other rich fat cats. Silvestre says that if he’s Santoro’s friend he has got to be a good guy. Venus disagrees. “He’s taking his things and heading for The States [gringolandia] tomorrow since now he’s gotten his revenge. That was all he wanted and so now he’s going to rub my face in it. He doesn’t need me now. I’ve got to take care of myself and after what I did, once they find out I’m not Loafly Norton, if I stick around they’ll lynch me.” Suddenly there’s a knock at the door. Martina thinks it’s got to be Estev coming for Venus. They giggle. Silvestre figures it couldn’t be anybody else. Venus primps and then goes to answer the door. Ruh-Roh! It’s not Mr. Estev. It’s Cad and he’s got smoke coming out of every orifice. He grabs her and drags her outside by the hair. “Come here, you!”

Over at Jacinto’s, meanwhile, Denia tells Marge and ‘Cinto about the party. Flor and she are laughing at the way Cadmilo was fuming and then finally left with his tail between his legs. “There was nothing worse than what La Venenosa (her pet name for Venus) yelled in his face!” Jacinto says, well then she lured Camilo there with the wedding. Denia puts all the pieces together and says it has to be that the gringuito must have been behind it all. “He hired La Venenosa to hook cocky Camilo Elizalde, all just to shred the guy’s male pride to bits!” Jacinto is now grinning from ear to ear. The only thing better for him would have been to be there in person.

Back at Silvestre’s Cad screams at Venus that she thought she could escape, but he saw her get into the taxi and followed her there. He throws her against the wall but she gets in a good kick to the groin and races back inside. She tries to shut the door. Cad pushes his way back in and grabs her again. He shoves Silvestre against the wall and knocks him out. Martina comes at him with a chair, but he grabs it out of her hand and hits her across the head and knocks her down onto the floor. He grabs Venus by the hair, drags her outside again and punches her twice in the stomach. She can’t breathe. “You whore! I’m going to brand your face so every time you look in the mirror you’ll really remember the last man in your life you met. You’re going to feel shame, whore!” He pulls up a red hot branding iron and gets ready to shove it in her face. Just then, like Mighty Mouse to save the day ♪♪... Fr/Ed and Estev arrive in the nick of time. (What? No cape?) Fr/Ed grabs Cad’s arm and in famous telenovela last words screams at him, “Don’t you dare!”

Fr/Ed forces the iron into a (very conveniently placed) bucket of water and throws Cad onto the ground. Cad gets up to balance himself against the wall and growls. “This is going to cost you dearly, Santoro!” Fr/Ed shakes his finger at him and warns him off. “I only need one more reason, only one, to unload all the rage and contempt I feel for you, Camilo!” “—And who in the Hell do you think you are to threaten me??” Eddie remembers back to the time he was brushing his pet horse, Amanecer, when the smart-assed, teen-aged Camillo rode by and taunted him, saying it didn’t matter how much he brushed the horse, it’d still be mangy. “—Good question, Camilo Elizalde. Good question!” Before Ed can answer, though, Martina runs out to tell them her father is unconscious and she thinks he’s dead. Ed turns to go in and help. Cad gets up, rushes him from the back, and gives him a kick to the kidney. Venus somehow manages to keep Estev from joining in. (Estev screams a good game, though.) Ed turns around, grabs Cad and manages to knee the s.o.b. a good one in the nuts (Hubby lets out a groan) and drops him to the ground. Cad is finally out cold.

Eddie and Martina manage to bring Silvestre to. Eddie tells her to take him to Dr. Carlos for a good look-see. He goes back outside and asks Estev to help him with “the trash”. Estev takes Venus back inside and checks on everyone. He asks Martina to make sure that Venus doesn’t leave before he gets a chance to talk to her. Venus breaks away from him and says nastily that she’s old enough to take care of herself, thank you very much. Estev loses patience and yells at her. “Venus! I just want to make sure you don’t leave until you and I have a chance to talk. OKAY????” (Maybe in the meantime he can stop by Rosie the Bruja’s for a little Love Potion #9. This guy is about as romantic as rhubarb.) Martina says she’ll make sure she doesn’t go anywhere. He tells them not to go out and not to open the door for anybody. He goes to meet Ed at the car.

At Jacinto’s, Denia is still scheming. “The only thing left is to ruin it between Eduardo and Errika. Then, everyone’s happy.” Margie wonders why she’s got to bring that up again. “Well, after everything that happened tonight, just about anything is possible.” Jacinto warns her not to stick her nose in where it isn’t wanted. She tells him that with the ruckus Venus caused this evening, she pretty much had opened the way for others. Flor wonders what she’s got planned but Denia won’t say because she knows they’re all on Eduardo’s side in this. Margie asks if she’s still set her sights on Eduardo. Denia says she sure has. So, now she’s going to prove to him she’s no dummy and get herself educated and a career. (Yeah, I hear there’s a chef school in the D.F. that used to have one hunk of an instructor there…..) Flor does an eye roll and stares at the wall.

Fr/Ed and Estev drive back to Las Animas with Cad plopped like a bag of manure in the back seat. Fr/Ed’s got Fer on his cell and tells her he needs her to meet them back at Las Animas. It’s urgent. They’ve got her brother with them. She asks him what he’s done now. He tells her they managed to get there in time to stop him from disfiguring Loafly’s face. (I guess she realizes the longest night of her life is gonna seem like a year before it’s over.)

At the hospital Martina gushes at Venus over the way Carlos took such good care of her pa’ and says she’s brimming over with love for the guy. Venus wonders if Martina is really going to keep her from leaving. Martina tells her even if she has to cement all the doors and windows shut and tie her to the chair to keep her from disappearing from the gringuito. Venus asks her since when did she turn out to be such a friend of his? Martina says she’s her friend not his, and wonders if she hasn’t realized yet that if he wants to talk to her so badly that it has to be something really important.

Fer arrives at Las Animas and tells Fr/Ed that this whole thing with Camilo seems like such a nightmare. Fr/Ed says he’s sorry to have to involve her. She asks what happened and he explains how her brother saw Loafly get into a taxi and follow her to Martina’s father’s blacksmith shop. He explains that Martina, Lili’s nurse, is actually Silvestre, the blacksmith’s, daughter. He tells her he has Cad locked in the study because right now he’s still out of control. Fer tells him Cad’s impulsive fits have their limits and she knows what she’s talking about. “Let me speak with him.” He blocks her way and says he’s afraid Cad could hurt her. She tells Fr/Ed that after tonight they aren’t going to have to worry themselves about him any for the rest of their lives. “You’ll see.”

Cad is pacing around the study, growling and grunting, and kicking the furniture. Fr/Ed unlocks the door and he and Fer walk in. Cad sneers. “So! Are Batman and Batgirl going to flip a coin to see which one of you two is going to execute me?” Fer tells Fr/Ed she wants to speak to her brother alone. He says fine, he’ll wait for her outside the door.

Fr/Ed’s cell rings. Errika’s timing is impeccable. He tells her things got complicated this evening and he forgot to call her. She lends a sympathetic ear and leads him on. “Yeah, I guess things got really upsetting with all that happened at the party tonight, huh? So tell me. How are Loafly and Estev?” He says fine, but lies that he’s in the middle of taking a call from him and will talk to her later. She says she can imagine the number of things in his head right now and figures it’s going to be difficult to get to sleep tonight. Fr/Ed says, well actually, it will. She says she thought she’d come over and spend some time with him. He says not to. She wonders if he doesn’t want to see her or what? He fibs and says it’s nothing like that; he just doesn’t want her driving at this time of night. She giggles and says that’s no problem. She’ll just spend the night with him. He says no, that he doesn’t want her to risk coming out this late. She giggles again and says “Don’t tell me everyone’s already gone to bed?” He asks her how about they talk in the morning. She finally gives in and says ok, then. “Sleep tight.” Click.

Errika gets out of her car and walks into the lighted driveway. It happens to be Fr/Ed’s driveway, though. She looks over at the other vehicle parked in his drive. “You are a wicked, two-timing female, Fernanda!” It’s Fer’s yellow FJ. Err fights back her tears and tells herself, “If it’s the last thing I do in my life, Franco Santoro is going to marry me!”

Inside Fr/Ed’s study Cad continues screaming at his sister. “Then what? Are you going to kill me or what?? You finally agreed with that killer, Santoro, right??!! He brought me here by force! He would have beaten me up!” “—And you would have deserved it. Think! You would have disfigured Loafly!! Don’t you realize??” “--And that’s how I’m going to leave her if I ever meet up with her again!!” “—Yes. You are capable of any despicable thing, but from here on out I’m going to make sure that you never harm anybody again, Camilo. Nobody!” Cad yells back, really? Just what are you thinking of doing, huh? Fer gets frightened and yells for Franco. “Oh, so without your bodyguard you can’t move even a finger, can you?” Fer turns to Fr/Ed and says she’s sorry to have to say this in front of him but she has to, okay? She turns back around to Camilo.

Fer gives her brother an ultimatum. “Camilo, you have twenty-four hours to leave the hacienda without saying a word to anybody—absolutely no one, understood?” He sneers at her. “--You don’t say!” Fer stands her ground. “—Somewhere nobody will ever hear from you again. If you don’t, I’m going to bring charges against you for having raped Aurora!” Cad at last is scared to death. Pity-party in 10 minutes…..

Mañana es Para Siempre, Thursday, September 10--Ep #142: Yeah, they totally faked us out.

Erika reminds Fer about all the good times with Miguel: the flowers he sent; the parties they danced with; the serenade he sang for her on her 20th birthday in the dorm courtyard. I'm sorry Franco, but you are no longer my telenovio. Miguel has replaced you in my affections and I haven't even met him yet. He had me at serenata. Fer says what happened in Spain stays in Spain. Erika, on the other hand, thinks it's time for Fer to get back into circulation, unless she's interested in someone else….

Aurora acts uncomfortable around Barbie, who acts overly affectionate with Aurora. Barbie notices the strangeness, but Aurora brushes it off as being surprise about Barbie's coming to visit. Barbie says she'll do what she has to do to get Aurora's forgiveness and trust.

Fer says she's confused, but Erika just wants her to come on the trip and have a good time. Fer won't commit to a trip. Well, we all saw what happened the last time she made a commitment…can you blame her? Erika says it would be the best wedding present ever, so Fer agrees.

Gardenia wonders if Fernanda really is clueless about Franco's real identity. He supposes she would have let him have it already if she knew the truth. Gardenia, for the two millionth time, threatens to tell and they start to have an argument about it as Margie walks in. Gardenia gets her boobs all up in Franco's grill and suggests he come on up and see her sometime when he's at Lactos before she sashays away. Margie wants an update on Jacinto, who has had his meds and is sleeping. Margie hassles Gardenia about not being at work, but she had to come over and get her shoes, since Barbie "ordered" her, Tomasa, and Flor to help out at the party. She suggestively eats a peeled fruit of some kind. We suspect it's a mango, but I don't think it's colorful enough.

Erika calls Franco to tell him the good news about the weekend trip…"Just like we planned it!" He's pissed, but she hears it as happiness and excitement. She says she'll see him tonight and sends him more magical kisses. Fer has to go to the window for a breath of fresh air before she vomits.

Aurora asks where Santi is and is told he's in Florence. Barbie says she wants them to reconcile and be together. Aurora is doubtful. Barbie says she came to get Aurora and take her to Santi, right now if Aurora wants.

Jacobo tells his secretary to hold all his appointments until Friday. The accomplice points out Vlad coming home with a couple of buddies. They watch him walk inside his apartment building. Jacobo tells him to enjoy his last few hours of life.

The desk clerk gives Vlad his mail and Vlad tells him to give Damian the keys to his car when he comes over.

Aurora stalls Barbie by saying she doesn't know how to tell the sisters she's going. Barbie doesn't see the problem--she's going to see Santi, the love of her life. Aurora wants to put off the trip…until tomorrow? She still thinks that's too soon and asks Barbie for a favor: more time to think about things. She wants a few days and then she'll tell Barbie when they'll leave. Barbie agrees that when Aurora decides to leave, she'll take her straight to Santiago.

Pris comes over to see Damian. Has she looked this pregnant before? Pris' conscience is weighing on her. Knowing about Anibal's plans makes her an accomplice. Damian suggests confession. Pris wants Damian to talk Vlad into backing down, but he breaks it to her that he has, in fact, been hired to have Vlad liquidated. Pris is impactada. Dam tells her it's all arranged, and for tonight. Pris is upset about his cavalier attitude, but Dam blames it on Vlad: "I told him to get out of town and he wouldn't listen to me." Damian says it will be quick and efficient and Vlad won't know what's happening. He reveals that he's going to summon Vlad to see him, and Vlad will have to take a taxi, in which his "verdugo" (executioner) will be riding. He leaves the rest to her imagination, which doesn't seem to be good for her mental state. And probably isn't good for the baby's health either. She cries and looks angrily at Damian. It's a little late for that, lady. Before the commercials, we see Vlad papering Pris' car with Post-its of love. Ah, those were the good times. All those wardrobe changes ago.

Venus is all dolled up in a blue and green print halter dress. She adjusts and primps as Esteve knocks. He wants to talk, so she invites him in. They make eyes at each other. Venus is almost ready. Esteve asks if she still won't tell him what she's doing "after," and she says it's her business. He wants to help her, but she thinks he's helped enough. Esteve says he's worried about her, but Venus tells him to worry about himself. Esteve caves and leaves to wait for her downstairs. Venus cries that Esteve is leaving tomorrow and she'll never see him again and he'll never know she loves him. Because they're both stupid.

Party guests arrive at the club. Four of Camilo's friends roll up in a convertible making bad jokes about going to Cami's funeral.

Anibal and Pris' boobs walk in and are greeted by Cami and Lovely. Lovely comments the pregnancy really suits Pris. Gonzo and Barbie come up and Lovely thanks Barbie for arranging the party. Cami gets a hug from his dad. The four friends walk in and are introduced to Lovely. They're his friends from college, he says. One whispers, asking where Camilo got the "cromo" (picture…maybe he's comparing her to a pinup?) and Cami replies "los tres reyes" (the three kings; the wise men--they're the ones who bring gifts at Christmas, not Santa). They enter now. Lovely smiles big as Natacha walks in. Natacha isn't as happy. She greets Camilo and Lovely asks for an introduction. Cami calls her a friend from college. Natacha says Lovely is as pretty as Camilo's other girlfriends. Lovely wants to know what her basis for comparison is. The ladies trade barbs. Lovely wants to trade stories. Camilo looks sick to his stomach.

Inside, the buffet table has a shrimp ice sculpture. Various familiar characters come in, sit down, and mill about. Natacha looks like she wants to do something, but she doesn't know what. Martina looks nervous. Franco walks in and finds Esteve, who says he still doesn't know what's going down tonight. Franco decides he'll talk to her, but Esteve says he's wasting his time. And don't ask Martina, either, because she was sworn to secrecy. Franco says he has to tell Fer what's going on. Because of Lili. He makes a semi-decent argument about everything affecting her, but it sounds like an excuse to me. Franco thinks Gonzalo will withdraw his support and he needs to give Fer the heads up so she can intervene. But Fer isn't there.

She's on the phone with Erika, lying in bed, begging off because she feels bad. She doesn't want to talk about exactly why and is amazed that Erika is there. Erika says it's just because she's Franco's date. Erika says she had a big surprise for Fer, but she'll give it to her later. Fer's phone rings after she hangs up. It's Franco this time. She tells him she's not going, especially now that she knows what Camilo did to Aurora. Franco says she has to be there because of Lili and something might happen and she has to be there. Again, sounds like an excuse to me. He begs and says he'll explain, so she agrees. Erika gives him a hard time about working while he's at the party. Erika passes on the news that Fer isn't coming, then gives a standard TN lie that her battery is dying and asks to borrow Franco's phone. She dials home, pretends Ruthie can't hear her so she can get farther away from Franco and Esteve, and then checks his call log and finds out he was talking to Fer. She looks angry, but doesn't do anything. Yet, I assume.

Cami excuses himself from Lovely to "go to the bathroom," which is slang for "sneak out of here before I can be humiliated." Venus may or may not have seen him sneak out. Actually, he snuck around to another ballroom entrance, apparently looking for Natacha. He calls her on his cell when he doesn't see her. She's up by the dance floor and he wants her to meet him in front of the bathrooms. She apparently agrees.

For his last meal, Vlad is eating…cereal with a banana? Well, he could do worse. Damian asks him to come to his apartment in an hour to meet with Jacobo to do the papers for the paternity stuff. Vlad agrees. When he hangs up, Jacobo tells Damian that the accomplice is waiting in the taxi. Dam suggests they toast to Vlad's final voyage. Jacobo giddily agrees.

At the entrance to the bathrooms Cami tries to make this Natacha's fault for being there. She says it's his fault for not telling her he was engaged and using her all this time. She asks about their love, their plans. She tells him he's worthless and she isn't going to make a scene. If Camilo's secretary had told her what was going on tonight, she wouldn't have come. She walks off as Camilo mutters, "secretary?"

In the kitchens, Gardenia instructs one of the servers about how to arrange a platter. Flor talks to somebody about the drinks. Camilo walks in and yanks Flor away by the arm, assuming she's the "secretary" Natacha was referring to. We can all guess how this is going to go down. Cami yanks her by the hair and says she'll pay like Jacinto did and also he'll have her fired. He throws her into a table. Gardenia finds her crying.

Margie dries Jacinto's hair after his sponge bath and re-adjusts the straps on his, uh, corset? She jokes that if he hadn't fallen out of a tree, they'd be out dancing at Cami's party. Jacinto has to beg her not to make him laugh because it hurts. He wonders what would take longer--for them to get in or for Cami to have them thrown out? She gives him his meds and then starts complaining about Gardenia and her threats. Jacinto says she'd do it, if she were pissed off enough. Margie doesn't want Fer to find out and then be mad at them for not telling her.

Flor won't say what happened, but Gardenia guesses it was Camilo. Before she can run off, Flor stops her, but that only means the servers all hear Gardenia loudly complaining about how Camilo can't treat them like this, etc., etc. Flor promises to tell Fer in order to stop Gardenia from making a scene. Gardenia says if Flor doesn't do it soon, she beat the crap out of Camilo herself. Tickets, tickets, get your tickets!

More partying. Natacha has come back onto the dance floor. Fer has arrived in an awesome purple satin dress. Camilo tries to sass her, but she's not having any of it. He tries to joke with her that she should pick up another guy while she's there. She tells him not to call her little sister ever again, she's no longer his sister from that moment forward.

Camilo is surprised by her anger, but he gets over it in about a second and a half. Franco thanks Fer for being there. He says he's going to give her the quick and dirty version of what's going down tonight. He says that Lovely isn't going to marry Camilo, but before he can explain, Erika comes over to attach herself to Franco and marvel over Fer's quick recovery.

Vlad prepares to leave his apartment. He smiles as he turns out the lights to leave.

Party. Dancing. Drinking. Pris hassles Anibal about how much he's drinking, then gives up. He tells her to relax because the nightmare's over tonight. Gonzalo grins at Ani and Pris and puts his arm around Barbie.

Vlad comes out the door to his apartment and then starts walking down the sidewalk. The accomplice checks in, then gets in his taxi and heads down the street towards Vlad.

Party. Dancing. Bitter, jealous crying (Natacha). Waving around of napkins (college buds). Toasting. Anxiety (Martina). Nausea (Esteve). Gonzo is happy for Camilo. Fer doesn't give a crap. Gonzo brings up Lili and his occasional desperation. Barbie talks him down…she's with Obregon of her own free will, Stockholm Syndrome, blah, blah, blah. Gonzo says it hurts that he'll never see her again, but Franco says before he leaves the country, Lili will be back with them. Gonzo wonders what's going on with Lili.

She's sleeping. Artemio comes into her room. He marvels that the daughter of his enemy is now under his protection. Lili, "la loca, la despreciada, la incomprendida" (crazy, unappreciated, misunderstood) He thinks they're not so different. They're tied together by "soledad" (loneliness; but also, quite literally, Soledad--very poetic of him!) but they're not alone anymore. They have each other.

Vlad continues walking down the street and hails a taxi, which doesn't stop. But the Death Taxi does, and he gets in.

Party. Dancing to one of those songs where the words describe the steps. Pris checks her phone, but is busted by Anibal and puts it down. The MC asks for applause for the happy couple. Natacha stews. The MC announces the happy couple will be making speeches about why they chose each other, in accordance with "English" custom. Camilo takes a shot of champagne for courage. Barbie and Gonzo beam. Martina, Fer, and Natacha look displeased, indifferent, and bitter. As Cami reaches into his jacket for…his notes (?) the episode ends.

Tomorrow: looks like Fer and Cami get into a fistfight and Cami, Esteve, and Franco get into a fistfight. Now that sounds more like a par-tay!
