Abysm / Abyss of passion, new show starts Monday

It appears we have a new show starting on Monday. Anybody want to recap it? If we don't get volunteers, we'll just give it a pass. BTW my choice is correct, just ancient [via Old French from Medieval Latin abysmus = abyss]

Augusto Castañón and Estefanía Bouvier de Castañón are Elisa's parents. Carmina lives with them but plans to flee the town with Rosendo Arango (Alfonsina's husband, Damián's father), Alfonsina finds out and warns Augusto.

Estefanía tries to dissuade Rosendo from abandoning his family, but an automobile accident ends both their lives, so Carmine's able to convince Augusto that his wife had been unfaithful to him.

Augusto, disgusted, decides to marry Carmina though he does not love her. Alfonsina decides to send Damián away from the town to study (in order to separate him from Elisa, his dear friend, upon whom Alfonsina does not gaze with friendly eyes).

Years later, Damián comes back, now an adult and enaged to be married to Florencia Landuchi, whom he met while studying in Italy.

Paolo Landuchi, Florencia's uncle, is drawn by Elisa's beauty, but since she doesn't pay him no mind, he tries to rape her with Carmina as his accomplice. However, when Paolo is about to achieve his objective Damián appears, punches out his lights and saves Elisa.

Damián falls in love with Elisa and vice versa, so his old friend Gael becomes his enemy; Gael has also loved Elisa since he was a boy.

Augusto finds out about the relationship between Damián and Elisa, and haunted by memories of the betrayal of Rosendo and Estefanía, he frightens Elisa by threatening to kill Damián. Desperate, determined to protect the man she loves, Elisa agrees to marry Gael despite the great misery this causes her friend Paloma González who has always been crazy in love with him.

At the moment Gael and Elisa stand before the alter, Damián ...

In this land, sins are not forgiven and the past is not frogotten. Submerge yourself in the abysm of passion.

El Talismán - Cast of Characters

Roberto Vander is Esteban Nájera

He is father of the protagonist Camila and her brother Armando, husband of Elvira. He is a charming man but a compulsive gambler. His character is weak. His wife is the one who holds the reins of the house while he spends his time gambling it away.

Thanks to Elvira he succeeds, for a time, in becoming the owner of the rancho El Talismán, but in spite of his therapies he once again falls into his vice, instigated by Don Gregorio. He loses El Talismán in a poker game and his family must leave the ranch.

Julieta Rosen is Elvira Nájera

Mother of Camila and Armando, and wife of Esteban. She is a beautiful woman of much character, and the lover of Gregorio for a while. When Esteban loses everything due to his gambling vice Elvira becomes bitter about life and bitter towards her children.

When they buy El Talismán Elvira becomes Gregorio’s lover to get money from him, but Gregorio doesn’t fall for her trap and dumps her. When she loses everything Elvira swears vengeance and, years later, uses her own son Armando to avenge herself against Gregorio via his granddaughters.

Elvira disregards the fact that Pedro has deposited the value of El Talismán in Esteban’s bank account.

Pablo Azar is José Armando Nájera

Brother of Camila, son of Elvira and Esteban. He loves his sister Camila and is willing to do anything for her.

He is impulsive and vindictive, but malleable. When his family owned but then lost El Talismán he developed a hatred for the world and has vowed revenge.

Driven by his mother, and using two names, he loves Don Gregorio’s two granddaughters and enjoys watching them fight each other.

Sergio Reynoso is Don Gregorio Negrete

Antagonist, father of Lucrecia and Antonio, grandfather of Fabiola and Florencia.

He is a hard man, heartless, who has always wanted El Talismán but has never been able to obtain it.

Rich and powerful, he has just about everything but he wants El Talismán, so it becomes an obsession and he becomes capable of killing to get it. Years ago he was about to take it away from Esteban, the father of the protagonista.

In the beginning he was in love with Matilde, Mariana’s mother, but Matilde loved Bernardo and married him. This makes Gregorio such a bitter man that he marries una cualquiera (so maybe a nobody, maybe a tramp?).

It is Gregorio’s fault that Mariana has gone mad.

Lola Ponce is Lucrecia Negrete

Antagonist, daughter of Gregorio, sister of Antonio and sister-in-law of Doris.

She is very beautiful but obsessive, and accustomed to having what she wants when she wants it. She is a bold woman who, because Pedro has denied her his love, decides to get it at all costs. She knows Pedro is married but she doesn’t care and so keeps sniffing around.

Her father supports her because if Lucrecia can conquer Pedro then Don Gregorio will have El Talismán. Lucrecia hates Camila ever since she arrived, and she knows Pedro likes her, but Lucrecia is a hypocrite a pretends to be Camila’s friend to keep an eye on her movements.

She will make life impossible for Camila

Aarón Díaz is Antonio Negrete

Antagonist. Son of Don Gregorio, husband of Doris, brother of Lucrecia. He is a daddy’s boy and used to getting whatever he wants. He is bad, selfish and cruel.

As a young man he seduces Mariana and leaves her pregnant. His father wants Antonio to marry Mariana in order to get El Talismán, but Mariana doesn’t want to marry him because she knows he’s only doing it because he wants her ranch.

Antonio doesn’t care about Mariana or his son and finally his father marries him off to Doris, the daughter of a friend. Doris and Antonio have a hate-filled marriage. When Camila returns to the ranch Antonio falls in love with her and wants a divorce from Doris in order to be with Camila.

He always looks after his own interests. He is the father of Fabiola and Florencia and is good to them in spite of everything else.

He doesn’t admit it, but even though he hates his wife he sure likes making love to her.

Blanca Soto is Camila Nájera

Camila Nájera is the daughter of Elvira and Esteban, and sister of Armando.

Protagonist, a beautiful woman, and positive in spite of much suffering as a child thanks to her father’s vice. She has moved on. She is an agronomist, lover of nature and a very positive person.

She is direct, sweet, and enchanting but she is not a wimp. She’s strong like her mother and gets what she wants through kindness. She tries to be fair in everything and always finds the bright side of things. She is in love with Pedro Ibarra and is, at first, unaware that he is married.

Camila is always in conflict because she love Pedro, but she believes he is guilty of her father’s ruin. Camila does not know that Pedro paid her father in full for their ranch, and believes he took it in bad faith.

Camila never doubts the love she feels for Pedro, but she does doubt she can live with someone who, she believes, has done so much damage to her family.

Rafael Novoa is Pedro Ibarra

Protagonist, husband of Mariana. He married her to help keep Don Gregorio from taking her baby. He is handsome, manly, and although he seems cynical he is basically a good man.

He was raised in an orphanage and he helps the orphans whenever he can. He came to the country as an undocumented worker; Mariana and her father help him succeed.

Pedro tries to regain el rancho El Talismán for Mariana. He loves his wife like a sister and married her as a favor, however he falls in love with Camila. He is afraid of love and uses his cynicism as a shield.

Pedro is considered a bad guy but in spite of this Camila falls in love with him. Pedro is a man who is fair, direct, simple and foolish.

Karyme Lozano is Mariana Aceves

Mariana Aceves is a complex character who suffers the consequences of her mistakes.

Despite knowing the hatred between her father Bernardo and Gregorio Negrete, she carries on a clandestine love affair with Gregorio's son Antonio.

She marries Pedro Ibarra in order to protect herself from the opportunistic Los Negrete, who wish to take her child (by Antonio) from her. Will Mariana allow Pedro to lose what is most important to him in order to regain El Talismán?

El Talismán Sinopsis - New Telenovela Starts January 30th

El Talismán is the eponymous name of a California ranch that will have many owners since many covet the property. This is the story of three families, Los Aceves, Los Negrete and Los Nájera, whose desire for El Talismán will cause hate and rivalry, and many family members will have their lives destroyed by this hypnotic ranch. Apparently this ranch is in the exotic location of Fresno, California. Yep, you heard me right.

Camila Najera (Blanca Soto) watched her family fall apart when her father’s addiction made them lose their family ranch in Texas. Esteban Najera (Roberto Vander) a compulsive gambler, is trying his luck with chance until he gets enough money to convince his wife Elvira (Julieta Rosen) to return with him. Los Najera travel to California where Esteban buys the ranch "El Talismán" from Bernardo Aceves (Braulio Castillo), but behind that sale there is a story of bitterness and pain.

Bernardo and his neighbor Gregorio Negrete (Sergio Reynoso, unibrow from Barrera de Amor ewwww!) owner of the ranch "El Alcatraz", have been rivals for years. Gregorio has never forgiven Bernardo for stealing the love of Matilde. Since then, Negrete has only one ambition, to own El Talismán . Because of that he harasses Los Aceves, even starting a huge fire which forced them to sell the ranch. Matilde’s lungs were severely damaged in the fire and this caused her death. Nice job lover boy.

Despite knowing the history of hatred between both ranches, Mariana (Karyme Lozano), daughter of Bernardo, has a clandestine love affair with Antonio (Aaron Diaz), son of Gregory Negrete. He is married and father of two daughters, but believes that if he marries Mariana, he will become the owner of the ranch his father wants.

Pedro Ibarra (Rafael Novoa) was raised in an orphanage in Tijuana. To help the nuns who did so much for him (presumably by earning money to send home), Peter dares to cross the border as an undocumented worker. Once in California he his injured by La Migra (immigration officers) and is helped by Los Aceves. From then on Pedro feels indebted to his rescuers and becomes the right hand of Don Bernardo.

Peter meets Camila when he almost runs her down with “La Viejita”, Bernardo's truck. It's love at first sight between them.

Mariana is pregnant with Antonio’s child when she discovers the opportunistic purpose behind his seduction of her. Gregorio’s intentions are even more sinister...he plans to take the child from Mariana.

It is in this atmosphere of danger, and suffering from cancer, that Bernardo decides to sell El Talismán to Los Nájera.

Pedro will be in a dilemma. On the one hand is his love for Camila, on the other is the need to protect Mariana and her baby. Gregorio discovers Esteban’s weakness and will set a trap that will affect forever the future of Los Nájera and the love of Camila and Pedro.

Plot summary: "La que no podia amar" (She who couldn't love)

I think this one is starting January 2 at 9 pm.

The story begins in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, México, with Ana Paula Carmona, who as a girl had to take care of her sick mother. After the death of Mariana, Ana Paula decided to study nursing so she could always help others.

Ana Paula is now about to graduate. She meets Bruno, lawyer to the fearsom Rogelio Montero. Bruno needs a nurse to take care of his ailing boss. The salary is good and Ana Paula takes the job to help her aunt Rosaura with money. Rosaura has taken care of her and her brother Miguel since they were children.

Rosaura is resentful that she lost chances for love because she was taking care of them; she wants them now to take care of her, that's why she's pretending to be sick.

Miguel's girlfriend is Dany, a lively, enthusiastic girl who tries to change his insecure character. She's Ana Paula's best friend - they studied together in nursing school.

Ana Paula doesn't know she'll be working under very difficult conditions in the hacienda 'Del Fuerte' (of the strong), an isolated, far-away place; Rogelio is a very difficult man, he hasn't gotten over the consequences of an accident that occurred when he was about to marry Vanesa, a frivolous and egotistical woman who dumped him when he was injured.

Rogelio's sister Cinthia also lives at "La hacienda Del Fuerte." She feels trapped because he won't release her part of their inheritance, forcing her to remain at his side to take care of him. In order not to be bored, in secret she gets involved with Efraín, foreman on the estate, who truly loves her; for her sake he evades Consuelo, a servant who loves him innocently and sincerely.

Also living at Del Fuerte: María, Consuelo's godmother, a kind woman who's been like a mother to Rogelio y Cinthia. She was their nanny, now she still takes care of them. The touch of happiness in this strict household is Margarito, an innocent, enchanting little boy who has no family and whom Maria protects.

Ana Paula meets Gustavo Durán, a noble, hard-working engineer who has a sick sister named Mercedes. They fall in love, but their happiness is cut short because Rogelio also falls in love with her. This love triangle has terrible consequences.

When Miguel causes a terrible accident and is about to lose a hand and go to jail for life, Rogelio saves him in exchange for Ana Paula's hand in marriage. She sacrifices herself for her brother but doesn't imagine the hell she will suffer at Rogelio's side when he discovers she loves someone else.

It's only at the end of the story that true love triumps and Ana Paula can choose freely whether to stay with her spouse or with her first love.

Doña Bárbara rebroadcast

It appears that Telemundo will rebroadcast the novela based on the classic Venezuelan novel, Doña Bárbara, beginning today in two hour episodes starting at noon eastern time. It is listed on the TV schedules for that time. Sometimes Telemundo mysteriously doesn't show what is on the schedule but I thought I would give folks who might be interested a heads up.

In my humble opinion, this is one of the best written novelas I have ever seen. Set in the Venezuelan llanos (but filmed in neighboring Colombia), it is filled with excellent performances by Edith González, Christián Meier, Génesis Rodríguez and many, many others. Virtually none of the novela conventions we discussed earlier are found here. You think they are going that way and then it surprises you with something completely different. And, we recapped it here. You can find the link in the sidebar.

Here is a link to one of the last posts I did on DB with pictures of most of the male characters - Eye Candy of the Arauca.

New Telenovela: La Fuerza del Destino!!!! Synopsis

Hey Caraymates! A new telenovela is starting on Univision next Tuesday, August 2nd, in the 9pm (EST) timeslot.

La Fuerza del Destino (The Power of Destiny) is a telenovela produced by Televisa under Rosy Ocampo. Sandra Echeverria, who is a Telemundo exclusive artist, temporarily joined Televisa as the protagonist of the telenovela as part of a Televisa-Telemundo artist exchange. Also starring are David Zepeda as the main protagonist. Laisha Wilkins, Gabriel Soto, Rosa Maria Bianchi, and Juan Ferrara as the main antagonist and villains.

According to Jarocha (our amiga in Veracruz), this tn starts off really well and with lots of exciting events and revelations up front. Another plus- it’s a short telenovela, only 101 Capitulos.

If you like hunks, this tn features quite a few: David Zapeda (as a good guy!), Marcelo Cordoba, Gabriel Soto, and Ferdinado Valencia.

If you like Televisa, the protagonist is Televisa darling Sandra Echeverria.

If you like pretty bad girls, one of our favorite bad girls, Laisha Wilkins, is the main villainess.

Synopsis (none of this is spoiler as it’s all in the previews and seems to happen in the first few episodes):

The story begins when Ivan (David Zepeda), 14, returns with his mother, Alicia (Leticia Calderon), to the land of his birth: Alamos, Sonora. (Trivia: Both David Zepeda and Leticia Calderon are from Senora in real life.) His father, Juan Jaime Mondragón (Juan Ferrara), a wealthy and powerful businessman and farmer, does not recognize him as his son and rejects him. Alicia keeps her origin a secret and is forced to accept a job as a cook for the Lomelí Curiel family, where Doña Carlota (Delia Casanova), her daughter Lucrecia (Rosa María Bianchi) and her husband Gerardo (Alejandro Tommasi), their two girls, the teen Maripaz Lomeli Curiel (Laisha Wilkins) and Lucy "Lucia" Lomeli Curiel (Sandra Echeverria), live. At the home of this wealthy family, Ivan helps in any way he can and continues to study, with the generous help of Doña Carlota, until age 19. Meanwhile, Maripaz, 18, returns home after having studied abroad. Ivan is attracted to her, and she, frivolous and whimsical, decides to seduce him. Without considering the consequences of her actions, she gets pregnant with his child.

The scandal in the family is huge, to the extent that Lucrecia, a woman obsessed by appearances, orders the youth to receive a beating. During the brawl, one of the gang dies and makes Ivan believe he is responsible. Seeking refuge in his house, he discovers that his mother has died. Sore, confused, thinking about those responsible for the death of his mother, with everything against him and nothing to lose, he decides, full of anger and helplessness, to cross illegally into the United States. In Los Angeles, California, he meets Anthony McGuire (Pedro Armendariz Jr.), who becomes his protector, adopts him, and motivates him to return to Mexico.

There are many intrigues and surprises that Ivan will discover when he returns to Sonora, among them that the child he conceived with Maripaz disappeared mysteriously, the same day he was born. Another surprise is Lucia, the younger sister of Maripaz, a virtuous young psychologist and who has secretly loved him since she was a child. Lucia, now a beautiful and courageous woman, will help him find his son, regain his dignity and overcome, with courage, all the obstacles. The force of destiny will put everything in its place.
