MEPS 09/18/09: Always The Last To Know Or, Stop The World Cuz I Think Gonzo May Want To Get Off

Capítulo 153?

First the video rewind: In her office at the den of dairy duds affectionately known to us as Grupo Lactos, Barb tells Fr/Eduardo that there is only one person that Artemio Bravo fears in this world and his name is Eduardo Juarez. If Fr/Ed can find him then he will hold absolute power over Bravo. Across the hall, Anibal races into his daddy’s office to tell him the police have Camilo in custody and the person who pressed charges was none other than dear little sissy, Fernanda.

Venus/Loafly and Fer return to the hospital. Errika tells them that, happy-happy joy-joy, Estev has come out of his coma. Venus races off to see him. Err tells Fer that Estev is on the way to a full recovery. She adds that now that Estev’s out of danger, she’s moved her wedding date up to the coming Saturday and says she hopes Fer will keep the date free as she is still her matron of honor. Fernanda, inwardly cringing with the rest of us, graciously agrees to but wonders what about the guests? Err says she’s decided to have just a small, intimate ceremony instead.

Fer gets an angry call just then from Gonzo about her putting Cad in jail and he tells her to high-tail it back to Lactos ASAP for an explanation. On her way out of the hospital she runs into Fr/Ed and tells him her daddy is none too happy with her because of Cad. Fr/Ed tells her he could have signed the complaint instead of her but she says she was duty-bound to do it. She changes the subject to even less pleasant things like Barbara, and wonders what she wanted with him. He tells her the only thing she needs to know is that he thinks he now has a way to rescue Lili. Fer says they’ll have to discuss it later, but with Cad in jail the only consolation is that they might be able to rescue Lili. He takes her hand in his and promises he’ll come through for her. They share a meaningful embrace. (yawn)

Venus is now in talking to Estev. He tells Venus that what kept him alive was thinking he couldn’t die now that he’d finally won her heart. He asks her if anybody has found out the truth about them yet, but she says no. (Dunno if what she told Cad counts. My guess is you betcha!) He says nobody can know the truth until the situation stabilizes around there and they are back home in New York. Venus wonders if he knows who beat him up. He says it was Cad and his troublemaking posse of pissants. She tells him Cad is now in jail paying for what he did to him.

Viewerville now gets a glimpse of our pugilistic pissant in chief being escorted to his new 8’x 8’ guest quarters. Apparently the guards don’t give a rat’s patooty that he is Camilo Elizalde and neither does the stinking, snoring drunk on the floor who they’ve given him as a roommate. (Definitely a Kodak moment.)

Desperate to get Fernanda off the available competition list, Err doesn’t waste a minute getting back on the phone with “Migui.” (Talk about your cringe-worthy nicknames. Sounds like a tiny disgusting little insect. Yech!) She tells him about the change in her wedding plans and that it means no trip to the finca. She adds that Fernanda was supposedly beside herself with joy when he showed up for dinner. “Seriously, she told you that?” “--Yes. And, listen, let me give you a little friendly advice: go after her. You let her get away once, so you must not lose the opportunity life’s given you again.” Miguel, the only truly sane one in the curdled crew of this dairy dinghy, says he came back with that intent but he doesn’t like the idea of pressuring Fer so soon after a failed marriage. Err says that Fer was never in love [with Damian] and is extremely disappointed. Fr/Ed returns and she quickly hangs up.

Err says she thought he was going to pick up Loafly but Fer brought her back instead. He says he had business at Lactos to take care of. She tells him Estev is out of his coma. He races off to go see his friend. She giggles with glee (I swear that laugh of hers sound more and more like nails on a blackboard). It seems her plans are going without a hitch.

Meanwhile, Padre Bosco has returned to his church and is praying. He worries that the situation has gotten out of hand; many innocents are at the mercy of a confused man whose heart has been hardened [endurecido] by hate and the thirst for vengeance. The housekeeper brings him a letter from the Bishop which tells him that as the paperwork is all in order, he gives his permission for the marriage between Errika and Franco Santoro and asks him to officiate.

Fr/Ed goes into see Estev. He promises Venus and Estev that while they’re staying with him nothing like that will ever happen again. Estev tells Ed not to apologize or to blame himself because he was the one who was so anxious to teach Cad a lesson. Venus says no, she is the one to blame because she put the lecherous worm’s [gusano lujurioso] manhood into question. In the end, she says, he received a lesson made to order [a su medida = custom fit/ personalized].

On the phone, Dolly tells Err that she’s canceled everything, but worries that Augie is going to explode when he finds out the small fortune he’s lost on all the deposits. Err says no biggie since he had planned to spend much more. (Good thing Eddie’s got some deep pockets.) Dolly says she still plans on having the reception and that’s that. Err says she’s only interested in getting married, so Dolly can do what she wants about the rest of it.

Fr/Ed comes back from seeing Estev and Err tells him that he was a great friend and that she’s proud of him. He doesn’t understand why. She says not just anybody would have done what he did for him. Estev will probably be leaving soon now, she says, so she moved the date up to the coming Saturday for the wedding so that he could still be the best man. (On crutches or in a wheelchair? Those wedding photos are gonna be something else with that face of his.) Fr/Ed is a bit surprised, but goes along with it. He gets a bit nervous though when she says Padre Bosco will be the one marrying them.

Bosco is distressed [a mi pesar = to my regret] about having to marry Eduardo, but he feels he has to since the Bishop has asked him to perform the marriage. Before he can think about it further, though, Artemio Bravo pays him a surprise visit.

Back at Lactos, Fer, Anyballs and Barbie are in the office with Gonzo while he goes off on Fer for turning in her brother to the authorities. “Never did I think instead of children I was raising a pack of wolves!” He says he knew they always fought at the table, and were not exactly the most affectionate of siblings, but how shameful to see his daughter turn her brother into the police! He demands that Fernanda tell him what Cad did for her to expose the whole family to this pain and embarrassment by cold-bloodedly reporting him to the police. “Your son attacked Estev Norton and now he is in the hospital!”

Gonzo is blind-sided impactado and yells at Anyballs for not telling him. Squirmy, wormy AB says he’s only hearing about it now himself! Trying to earn points with his papi, Anyballs rushes over to Fer then, turns her swivel chair around to face him and yells at her for not being capable of doing it for her husband but somehow certainly seeming able to with her own brother. Fer gets up and sneers at AB. She could have expected as much from them, she says. It turns out that she’s going to be the Judas of the family, but she’s not having any of it.

She admits she did it to stop being complicit with Camilo. Gonzo, always mentally a day late and a dollar short, asks what she’s referring to. (Viewerville sits at attention and crosses all fingers and toes in hopes that this time the self-absorbed old steer gets it in spades.) “Since childhood I’ve seen how Camilo, backed up by the fact of being an Elizalde, has mistreated everything and everyone he could. He used to torture animals and what did you and Mother do about it? Absolutely nothing! You never said a single word to him about it.

“He would take pains to make Santiago’s life miserable. Whatever Santi used to care about, well then Camilo would snatch it away from him. What did you and Mother say? How bright! How intelligent Camilo is! You used to go around lauding his pranks, didn’t you? Do you remember when he became Errika’s boyfriend. Why? Because Santiago loved her. Cad would never have fallen in love with her, ever! And, of course, when he discovered my friend was hopelessly in love with him, what did he do? He ridiculed her feelings and entertained himself by beating her on my wedding day, didn’t he? You remember, right? But you didn’t consider it that important. Well, what happened? --And regarding that business with Jacinto, yes he whipped him and it is true! It’s true! So far, Camilo prides himself telling how he beat him, about how he left him with those scars that can never be gotten rid of! Any half of those acts our workers would now be in jail for, am I right or am I wrong? --But of course, as it’s praise-worthy Camilo, well he continues the abuse.”

Fer turns around and suddenly faces Babs. She frowns at Babs but she’s on a roll and just keeps on truckin’. (Don’t stop now! Let it all hang out!) “So, now Estev Norton is in the hospital, near death and in a coma, and only because it occurred to your son to show what a real man he was. Are you aware of this or not!!?? –If it were one of our employees what would have happened? Nothing! Absolutely nothing! Ah, but since it’s a millionaire who’s dying and a business partner, well then we have to be worried, now don’t we? I cannot handle being an accomplice to your lukewarm attitude with your children! Not anymore!” (Viewerville is on its feet cheering.) She turns back toward Barbara again. “—And you!!” She stops herself, looks over at her father then shakes her head and slams the door behind her. Bull-headed Gonzo is left to chew his cud and self-consternate.

Back at Padre Bosco’s parish church, Bravo has come to arrange for a time and date to have his forensic specialist inspect Eduardo Juarez’s remains. Only then will he return Lili to the family. (Talk about your double whammies.) Bosco stares speechlessly at Bravo, realizing that if anybody ever needed a miracle now, it’s him.

Meanwhile, Errika and Fr/Ed go into the hospital cafeteria for a bite of breakfast. Fr/Eddie wants to shake loose from her and suggests Err should probably go see her parents who’ve just gotten back from their trip. Errika (totally overdoing this boda thing) says no, they’ll just have to get used to the fact that their daughter’s first priority is her husband. “By the way, I spoke to Miguiiii and told him we’ll have to postpone our trip to my aunt and uncle’s finca. (Eddie’s really torn up over that one.) You know what? He’s going to be Fer’s escort at the wedding. And do you believe it? He told me he’s really in love with Fernanda!” Fr/Eddie chokes and then forces a smile when she adds that she thinks Miguel is going to propose to Fer that evening.

Fr/Eddie’s saved by a phone call from Fernanda asking if he knows what the new plan for rescuing Lili will be. In his best business voice he says he still hasn’t worked out all the details. “How about we agree to meet tomorrow morning at Las Animas?” “—Uh, are you with Errika?” “—Uh, yes. Exactly.” Fer says fine, see ya, and hangs up. Errika asks if that was a business call and he lies that it was. She tells him once they’re on their honeymoon (what a no-hitter that’ll be) he’ll have to leave the business--along with that cell phone-- behind. “I want you all to myself then.”

Back in her office at Lactos, Fernanda gripes at herself for calling Franco. “Now Errika will think I’m after him. Well, he’s her fiancé, --but he says he loves me. Of course, they’re going to get married”. She’s having a hard time accepting it and yells at herself that she’d better already, even though it hurts like hell and she’s dying of jealousy.

Out at Reception, meanwhile, Flor is floored by the sudden appearance of our smiling, Spanish Adonis, Miguel, virility oozing out from every pore and holding a giant bouquet of flowers. He asks to see Fernanda. Before Flor can dial he touches her hand and asks for a favor. (No way this guy’s still a virgin, saving himself for some pre-pubescent puppy-love. He knows too many of the right moves. Yowza! Eddie-Boy could take a few lessons.) Flor has to remember to breathe.

In Fernanda’s office there’s a knock at the door. She doesn’t look up, thinking it’s Flor, and asks a question. He walks to the desk and replies he doesn’t know, (but who’s listening anyway?) She looks up into his eyes and smiles. He smiles back. (Now all of female Viewerville has to remember to breathe.)

We are rudely shunted to the county jail where Gonzo is now griping at Camilo. “Never did I ever dream of having to come to the police station to see a child of mine!!” Cad whines that he’s glad his daddy finally came. In between sniffles he whines to the lawyer that he’s got to get him out of that garbage dump [muladar] right away. Gonzo wants to know if he ordered Estev Norton’s beating and Cad lies that of course he didn’t. “My sister’s brainwashed and so she reported me to the police!” “—So why would she do a thing like this?” “—Because she’d rather believe the lies of that bogus niece of his!” Gonzo needs an explanation and Cad obliges. He tells him that her name isn’t Loafly; it’s Venus and she’s a prostitute. When Gonzo refuses to believe him he says she told him herself. “--Did you know that this morning she came to my apartment and tried to murder me? If you don’t believe it just look at me!” He shows him the stitches under his chin. Gonzo, as always, needs time to process.

Back in Fer’s office, Miguel drinks in Fer’s perfume as she arranges the flowers and tells him she’s surprised because she thought she was going to see him that evening. He says he came precisely because he couldn’t see her for dinner. There was a cash-flow problem with his Ethiopian project and he’s got to take care of it. His flight leaves in three hours. (Bummer! I could look at this guy till the cows come home.) Fer says she understands and the job comes first. He says he’ll be gone two or three weeks. She says then he’ll miss Err’s wedding. He nods and says he doesn’t know whether it’s just his imagination, but Fer doesn’t seem too sure about this wedding of Err’s. “It may be I’m mistaken, but well, tell me: don’t you get along with this Franco Santoro?” She says of course she does. He’s a great guy and any woman would be happy marrying a man like him. “—Including you?”

Fer laughs nervously and explains it was just a manner of speaking. “What’s the matter with you, Miguel! Don’t be silly!” She reminds him of his flight and says she doesn’t want him to miss it on her account. (Excuse me. It’s three hours off and it’s not like he’s got more than a couple of undies and a shirt to pack, you know?) “I do appreciate your coming to say good-bye, though.” He stares into her eyes, turning up the charm a notch, and says no way he’d leave without seeing her first. She hesitates and puts up the barrier. She says well, she hopes he can resolve the problems at work. He nods and turns away, giving a small eye-roll. He gets up and wonders if he shouldn’t give it the old college try once more. “Fer, take care of yourself, will you?” He stares at her intently. He moves in for The Kiss. She avoids it and pecks him on the cheek, then gives him a sisterly hug. (Re-jected!) The heartache of realization crosses his face. “—I’ll call you when I get back.” (Something tells me “Miguiiiii” won’t be coming back.) He walks out the door, shouldering his heartbreak like a man…..

That night up in their bedroom, Gonzo tells La Barbie that Camilo swore that Loafly Norton told him she wasn’t who she said she was. Sure, he says, it could be something Cad just made up, but all the same…. Babs says if Fernanda signed the complaint there had to be a reason. He is certain that Fernanda’s charges are baseless because she wasn’t there. Babs asks him what he’s going to do about it. He says he hopes she’ll withdraw the charges because he can’t believe she’d actually present herself in court to air their dirty laundry. [carear= go public] Babs says she sympathizes, but she thinks it’s best if Camilo stays in jail. Gonzo is enraged. (Hubby and I take bets over whether Gonzo will survive through the end of this novela.)

Across the hall in his bedroom, Anyballs is on the phone brown-nosing Fr/Ed over Estev’s recuperation, saying that he appreciates the seriousness of the situation and hopes this incident hasn’t affected their working relationship. He hangs up with a smile on his face and says at least he can sleep soundly tonight. Pris is totally disgusted with him and his attitude. “It doesn’t bother you in the least that your brother, innocent or not, is going to spend a wretched night in a jail cell; or that your sister had a horrible argument with your father, that Lili hasn’t turned up, or even that Estev Norton might have died, does it? The only thing that matters to you is that nothing affects your business deals?” AB turns to go into the bathroom. “—And what’s so bad about that?” (Hubby says he’s got a point considering that’s what pays for all those jewels and servants.) She tells herself and the baby that this is not the kind of father she wants for him.

Back to Gonzo and Babs: “So my son should just rot in jail? No! That suggestion is totally unacceptable, Barbara!” She tries to explain. “You don’t understand—“ but he’s lost it. “—Of course I understand! Whatever the case, my children are my children! I’ve lost my daughter with no possibility of ever seeing her again. Now you expect me to simply abandon my son in jail for a crime he didn’t commit?” She tells him he’s right and apologizes for not being clearer. She sits him down and starts massaging his back. In that aggravatingly honeyed voice of hers she sweetly tells him she understands how painful the day has been for him and that the last thing she wants is to upset him with anything. She smiles evilly, secretly elated by all of it.

The next morning Fernanda calls Aurora to apologize for not coming by the day before. Rory tells her that La Sra. is coming by to see her today and once she tells her why she’s so interested in her she’ll force her to leave with her. Fer gets her to promise she won’t go.

Our little lamb, Santiago, shows up unannounced with a spring shear a couple minutes later in Reception at Lactos. Fer is all squeels of joy. Barbara walks in on them and throws cold water on the scene. She tells Santi she didn’t know he was coming back. Fer says she asked him to. La Barbie is not a happy camper because this is most definitely going to put a wrench in her plans with Aurora.

At the hospital the doctor tells Fr/Ed, Err, Loafly and Estev that he is doing so well he can go home the next day. Fr/Ed’s cell rings. Err grabs the phone asking who it is. “Barbara Greco.” Fr/Ed takes it out in the hall. Barbara tells him that Santiago just returned home and orders Fr/Ed to make sure Santiago turns right around and leaves the country immediately. “Are you listening to me, Franco? IMMEDIATELY!!” (Shades of old times with Damian.)

Santi goes into Gonzo’s office to greet him and AnyBalls, the embodiment of brotherly love and affection--not.

Fr/Eduardo needs an explanation. Barbara tells him it’s the favor she’s due for helping him with Bosco the other day. That’s not good enough. She tells him if he doesn’t solve this somehow and get him out of the country right away then they’ll both have very serious problems. “If you don’t obey my orders there will be no possibility of seeing Liliana Elizalde alive again!”

Back in Gonzo’s office, AB asks Santi how long he plans on staying. He explains that with Cad in jail they’ll need him to help there at Lactos. (What is he talking about? Cad never steps foot in that place unless he’s got a personal problem to get taken care of, or there’s a Board meeting.) Santi asks Gonzo why Cad’s in jail. AB tells him to ask Fer since she was the one who put him there.

Fer, meanwhile, is now on the phone with Fr/Ed who called to tell her about his phone call from Barbara. “It was a warning. She called to tell me that Lili’s life depends on Santi’s leaving the country immediately.” She wonders why and what he plans to do. He says he doesn’t have a solid answer for her and she agrees to meet him over at Las Animas ASAP to discuss it. Santi comes in right after she hangs up. She admits she pressed charges against Camilo. He wants to know why. She tells him that she asked him to come back home because several things have happened and in some way or other they have to do with him. She tells him once he finds out everything his life is going to change for sure.

As we come back from the break we are entertained with Damian taking mug shots. (Say “Cheese” for the camera, Dam.)

Barb comes out of her office looking for Santiago. Flor tells her he and Fer left together a little while ago. Gonzo comes out looking for Babs to ask her to come with him to the jail to see Cad. She says fine but first she wants to speak with him.

Fer and Santi arrive at Las Animas together. Santi tells Fr/Ed that all things considered [dentro de lo que cabe], Fer having told him on the way what happened, he’s very sorry about Estev. Fr/Ed tells them he’s doing fine and that he’s being discharged [dar de alta] the next day, and that Loafly is taking care of him there now. He explains that they’re all alone in the house because Margarita is home with Jacinto because he is recovering from his accident, too.

Back at Lactos, Babs tells Gonzo that sooner or later this was going to happen to Camilo. “I’ve had to hide the things he’s done from you to avoid the pain you always feel.” “—By gawd, tell me already!” “The business with your car was only the beginning.“ “—What are you saying???” “--The things he’s done are worse even than what they’re holding him for at the police station.” She pauses to take a well-timed, quavering breath. “I don’t know if I should tell you.” “—How could you not tell me, Barbara? What are you covering up about my son?” She feigns a pained expression and says that it’s not easy telling him this, but Aurora, Santiago’s fiancée, didn’t leave the house for the reasons he thinks. No, she didn’t leave there because Cad drugged her, no. “I found him when he was…raping her!” Gonzo is in shock. (Hubby just doubled his bet.)

Back at Las Animas in the study, Fer tells Fr/Ed that he can talk freely in front of Santi and that Santi also knows that Barbara had something to do with Lili’s disappearance. Fr/Ed asks if this could be the reason that Barbara is so eager to have Santi leave the country. Fer says she hasn’t the slightest idea. Santi says he can’t imagine why he’s become such a nuisance for her. Fr/Ed says well, it has to be something major because she blackmailed him saying that they’d never see Lili alive again if he didn’t convince Santi to leave. Fer asks to speak to Santi alone for a minute and Fr/Ed says fine. Just then the doorbell rings and he goes out to see who it is. Fer reminds Santi that she told him what’s going on has to do with Aurora. She has news from her for him. Santi waits to hear what she has to tell him.

Back at Lactos, Babs fakes near tears and says she tried to convince Aurora not to cause a scandal. Gonzo says, well then, you know where she is? Babs lies and says she doesn’t, that the girl has been calling her and meeting with her in various places. So he asks if what she wants is money. Babs says she doesn’t think so. He says well, what else could it be? “-- Aurora is expecting a child.”

Back at Las Animas, Fer finally tells Santi that Rory is expecting. Santi says nothing, but it looks like he’s got to be asking himself, “Whose?”

Gancho Friday September 18th, Two Good Plans and Everything’s Resolved. Or is it?

After yesterday’s “serious” episode, it’s time to rally the troops. Let’s bring in reinforcements. Let’s turn the tide. Let’s show ‘em what you got. Show ‘em who’s boss. The mummy’s a dummy and the monkey is spunky, so let’s open up our bag of tricks and let ‘em have it with both barrels!

Oh, sorry, got a little carried away with my pep talk. Fortunately, there was a lot of fighting back today with our good characters. Let’s review.

We see Mau and Constanza discussing the school situation. Connie says if they’re getting married, he should take her opinion into account. You’re getting married? asks Aldo, who just happened to overhear.

In another part of town, Moni is finally coming clean with Beto. Remember when they broke up, and Moni said there was another man? She admits she fell in love with Mauricio. Beto is stunned, then sad, then angry. He can’t believe it after all they’ve been though. He wants to kill Mau. At first, Moni blocks the door, fists cocked to prevent Beto from doing damage. She tells Beto that nothing really happened between her and Mau, but that doesn’t stem Beto’s rage. However, when Moni blames herself for being a fool, and falling for an impossible dream, Beto softens. Moni starts to cry, and Beto comforts her. Moni bemoans that through her foolishness, she lost her job, she lost Beto and she lost herself. Nah, says Beto, you just had an attack of acute “Sermeñosis”. But now you’re cured, right? Moni says she is.

Beto wonders if he still has a chance, but remembers Moni said she loved him like a brother. He muses that he’s not tall like Mau, doesn’t have that shampoo commercial hair, those big muscles, a smile that kills, green eyes, that hard butt…..Wait, Beto, you dig Mauricio?! Well, Sermeñosis is contagious, he says with a smile. He’s no prince, more like a frog, but if Moni would give him a chance, he’d give her lots of kisses, and mucho, mucho amor. Maybe one day, he could become a prince, or a king, her king.

Connie deigns to explain to Aldo that when people go out for 3 years, they get married. So just deal with it. But Mauricio doesn’t love you. He loves La Monita. Don’t you realize? Connie and Mauricio can’t dispel the truth of the words emanating from Aldo’s mouth. Mauricio drags him away for a talk, as Connie kicks the furniture in frustration.

Moni makes Beto promise he won’t go beat up Mauricio, and although it’s quite a struggle for Beto, he agrees. He won’t betray Moni’s confidence in him, and won’t bother Mauricio. Moni wants no more secrets between them. Now that she’s told all hers, does he have any? Is there possibly another woman who may have floated his boat? (mueve el tapete, literally moved his rug). She’ll forgive him, of course. Well……nope. No one. But we haven’t done “you know what” in months, she adds. Nope, you’re my one and only, assures Beto. Now let’s get some food! Hmmmm.

Mauricio explains that Aldo and the kids will just have to accept reality, and also, they should treat Connie with respect. Aldo’s not giving an inch. What happened to the Mauricio he was proud to have as a father? Why ruin your life, just to adopt us? You love Moni and she loves you. Mauricio is firm, Aldo will just have to realize that he’s doing what’s best for them. And by the way, don’t tell your sisters yet, I’ll break it to them.

Gabi’s date with Fernando has been a success, and he gives her a quick, gentle goodnight kiss, with the promise of more to come. She’s beaming, floating, turning slowly, only to find Salvador, standing right there, telling her this wasn’t an “appropriate hour” for her to be dropped off at home. Oh really, who are you, my mother, my father, my GRANDfather? She realizes he’s teaming up with Oscar now, and can’t believe how far he’s fallen.

Nieves has prepared a family meal for Moni and Beto. But Moni has to go to bed early, she has boxing training early tomorrow. After she leaves, Beto spills the beans that Moni was in love with Mauricio. Nieves doesn’t tell Beto she knew this, but is shocked that Beto isn’t going hog wild this time. He says he wanted to, but he promised Moni he wouldn’t. However, he does have a plan to get Moni back.

Speaking of plans, our episode really starts to get rolling now, with Plan No. 1. It’s the next day. The kids have a plan. Ivan dashes in to meet Luisa in the schoolyard. He’s brought a camera. Luisa says Mauricio is going to have to know the truth. She sneakily turns her head. See that güerita oxidenida (bleached blonde) over there? That’s Maira. Ivan thinks she’s cute, but Luisa quickly stops that sentiment, telling him to shut up.

In Jerry’s office, Connie spins in her chair, gleefully recounting to Jerry and Oscar how very soon, she’ll be Mrs. Sermeño. She adds that for now, she has to pretend to like the kids, but later, they’ll be gone.

Maira has to go to the little girls’ room, and Luisa and Ivan see their chance. Luisa takes the camera, casually enters the bathroom. A few seconds later, we hear Maira frantically screaming, what are you doing, I’m making pipi! Luisa rushes out, and she and Ivan check out the digital pictures on the camera. Ah, sweet revenge. Maira runs out yelling, give me that camera, but Ivan has it, and Luisa says if you don’t tell my Dad the truth, tomorrow I’ll show these pictures to the whole school!

Meanwhile, Ximena (looking very nice in a white flowing top over tight black pants with a beautiful necklace of large concentric gold circles, little silver boots and a huge gold handbag), informs Estrella that she wants to be an extra on TV. Her secretarial career was a bust, so she figured she’d get some career tips from Estre. Just then Aldo rushes in, having ditched school, He breathlessly tells them the dire news – Mau’s getting married to Connie. Don’t worry, says Ximmy, I know just what to do. They send Aldo back to school. Ximmy tells Estre that Mau should know that Connie’s no saint (santa paloma, or holy dove). She has a three step plan (our Plan No. 2) that can’t fail. Estrella remarks that Ximmy’s a real sneak or troublemaker (fregada), and Ximmy thinks THAT can be her new profession.

At the office, Gabi gives Beto a cell phone, to be used only for work. Beto’s grateful, immediately calls Costeño, probably to lay a bet on something. In walks Ximmy with a little shopping bag, informs Gabi this has to be delivered to Constanza inmediatamente. Beto’s ears perk up, he’ll do it. Ximena walks a few steps away, calls Estrella with the news “Phase One, Complete.” She goes off to Jerry’s office. Gabi and Paula gossip a little, Gabi letting Pau in on Fernando’s secret – his last name is “Retrete” (bathroom). Pau thinks she’d change her name, too.

Ximena tells Jerry she came to see him because he likes to do damage to people. Ah, you know me so well, confirms Jerry to his sister. Ximmy lets it drop – Connie has a lover! And by the way, they’re meeting at a hotel at four this afternoon, Room 209. Here’s the room key, she adds, waving a keycard in the air. Jerry’s nose perks up, he grabs the key, taking the bait. Ximmy exits the office, dials Estre, “Phase Two, Complete.”

Enter Fernando, tells Gabi he showed the plans to Mau, and Mau said they were terrific! Gabi’s ecstatic, and they kiss. Fer says it’s all due to Gabi, and she’s so happy, she’s almost crying. Fer’s not done. He takes a deep breath, tells Gabi he knows this is moving quickly, but would she like to go with him to Wisconsin? She smiles from ear to ear, puts her hands to her mouth in happy surprise, and I think we know the answer.

Beto’s caught up to Connie at the boutique. He pretends to eat some of the lingerie, jumps up to give Connie the little shopping bag. He also tells her he found out about Mau and Moni, but that’s over. Connie grabs Beto’s shirt, pulls him toward her, says of course it’s over, and very soon, I’m gonna be Mrs. Sermeño. Beto moves even closer, you can’t marry him, starts stroking her, kissing her neck. As they lock lips, Ximena casually walks over to them, am I interrupting anything? Connie says it’s not what you think, and Ximmy agrees, I really barely think, but guess what? She got a room in a 5 star hotel for an afternoon with Rolu, but he rejected her, and now what can she do with this key? Beto looks at Connie. Connie looks at Beto. Ximmy sees this, waves the key in the air invitingly, you guys want this? Our two hot to trotties pretend for a few seconds they don’t, then grab it, and they’re off, leaving Ximmy holding her nose from Beto’s fragrance. Cell phone comes out of bag, call to Estrella “Phase Three Complete!”

Room 209. Jerry gets there first, enters, checks out the king-sized bed, hides in the closet, camcorder ready to go.

Back in Mauricio’s office, it’s time to finish up Plan No. 1. Mau is sitting, Luisa, Ivan and Maira are standing. Maira reluctantly tells Mau that the day she came to visit with her mother, her mother told her to lie. Still acting like the spoiled brat she is, she manages to get out that La Monita never hit her, just told her not to bother Luisa, that’s all. Luisa tells Mau he never believes in her, Maira adds, it was all just a silly thing to bother Luisa, and gives a half-hearted “Sorry”, followed by a “are you happy now?” to Luisa, and she splits. Luisa turns to the shocked Mauricio, saying, ever since she was little, she was hoping to have someone to look out for her, to protect her. That day when Monita came to protect her, she felt as if Moni were her Mom, and she finally felt loved. Mauricio, now contrite, apologizes for not believing Luisa. Luisa feels he should really apologize to Monita, since his firing of her was unfair. He knows it’s true.

And now it’s time for Rocky, DF version! Moni’s in the city, running up and down steps in her sweats, air punching in front of the Museo National de Arte, jogging through the main square (Zócalo), giving us a travelogue with the winged victory statute (El Ángel de la Independencia) in the background, getting in shape, raising her arms in triumph. She’s ready!

Cut to some manicured fingers gently pulling petals from a daisy. I’m going, I’m staying, I’m going! (me voy, me quedo, me voy). Gabi’s ecstatic, she’s going with Fer to Wisconsin. In walks sadsack Sal, along with his pal Oscar the Grouch, to rain on her parade. They’ve got their arms around each other, compadres now, but she knocks ‘em for a loop with her announcement of the trip with Fernando. “Qué??!!” is the unison response.

Back to Room 209. Beto and Connie barely get the door shut, they’re groping each other, knocking things over, she calls out Roberto, he picks her up facing her, she wraps her legs around him, he carries her over to the bed, they fall onto it, and it’s all being captured by Jerónimo on tape! Beto loves being called Roberto, she loves being called Constancia, do what you will with me, she purrs seductively, kicking off her shoes, lying back on the bed, putting her feet on his chest, asking if he’s sure he can perform this time. He’s sure, he’s ready, he fondles her calves, spreads her legs, dives down on top of her, smothering her with kisses. Bite me (muérdame), she begs, and we see Jerry is so entranced, he’s momentarily forgotten to record, but he recovers, and focuses in again. Now she says hit me (pégame), and Beto turns her over, gives her a little spank. Now he’s on the bottom, hit me too, they’re both saying te amo, saying yes, yes, yes!

Moni’s workout is complete, she’s home, stretches, opens the fridge, gets out some orange juice, pours a cup, starts to drink, turns around, and spills it all over herself. Mauricio was sitting there! He stands up, the music starts, and he says I was stupid, please forgive me. He says he committed the worst atrocity of his life. Then go to church for forgiveness, leave me out of it, she shoots back. He’s not leaving until she listens to him. Oh, so I have to listen to you, but did you listen to me? (Good point. Mauricio always seems to give Connie all the time she wants to convince him of whatever excuse she has for her behavior, but rarely lets Moni get a word in). Mau doesn’t back down though, says she has every right to be furious, and he deserves it, in fact, he should have been grateful when she defended Luisa – it was as if Moni were a mother to Luisa. Mau relates how he now knows Moni didn’t hit Maira. Moni is upset that Mau will never trust her. But Mau says they’ve both made mistakes, couldn’t they start over? The tender music continues. Mau wants her to come back to work as his personal assistant. But Moni’s commited to the boxing now. And she could never keep to Mau’s strict work schedule, she has to train. Meanwhile, Nieves is outside the door listening. Mau offers Moni “flex time”. She could make her own hours. Ooooh, Moni likes this, turning away for a second, secretly smiling. I don’t know, Mauricio, I don’t know. Mau knows how to convince her, and they seal it with a kiss, Nieves secretly observing.

Costeño and Cristian walk into the vecindad, Cris is carrying a package that apparently contains pajamas for Paula’s Dad, Cris will deliver it to improve his standing with Pau. Nieves is getting woozy from what she’s just seen. She staggers toward the two guys, and faints in Costeño’s arms. Immediately a crowd gathers to help, Cris barks instructions, move aside (oríllense, related to orilla, which is the bank or shore of a river, orillar is also the verb to pull over, as with cops and cars), call an ambulance, call the paramedics, Mau and Moni come out, Moni goes for a doctor, Mau tries to help.

In Room 209, they’re under the covers now, down to underwear, as Connie says “don’t stop, don’t stop!” She’s never been this turned on (prendido). Beto’s new cell rings, though, and Consteño tells him his Mom fainted. He grabs his clothes and skeedaddles out, leaving her frustrated. This is, of course, Jerry’s cue. To Connie’s horror, he comes out of the closet, and offers to finish what someone else started. He forcefully removes his jacket, calls her Constancia!

Estrella and Ximena are in the boutique, checking out thongs, Estre’s entranced, she loves them, you don’t see these in the tianguis on Thursdays. What are tianguis, asks Ximmy (Here’s the answer.) She says Estre can have them, since Connie’s not here. Ximena thinks Connie’s getting caught right about now, but she won’t tell Estre who the guy is. She calls Mau to see if Jerry’s told him, thinking Mau will be be furious, and will surely cancel the wedding. She asks Mau if he knows where Connie is, and has Jerry called him, but both answers are no, and Mau tells her Beto’s Mom fainted. Ximmy tells Estre, who rushes off to help, grabbing the thongs on the way out, as Ximmy wonders why Jerry hasn’t called Mau.

Yeah, I wonder why. Jerry’s just about drooling at the thought of Connie’s favors. You pig! yells Connie. Fine, insult me, he answers. He shows her the camcorder. She grabs for it, to no avail. The doorbell rings, and Jerry gives the recorder to a hotel employee, who knows what to do with it. Connie’s face falls. What do you want? she gasps. Don’t you realize? he responds, removing his tie, unbuttoning his shirt, moving in for the kill as she pulls the covers up to her chin, knees to her chest, she realizes, all right. He calls her Constancia, wants her to spank him, too, starts kissing her as she recoils. He remarks that he’s surprised she likes strong odors, too, adds that she’s in his hands now, Connie whimpers, there’s not much she can do.

Aldo gets the good news that Plan No. 1 worked, Mauricio apologized to Luisa, and has gone to apologize to La Monita, too. That’s good, observes Aldo, now he won’t marry Constanza. Dani, Luisa and Ivan are impactados. Aldo realizes he wasn’t supposed to tell, but it’s too late now. He tells the other kids that Mauricio proposed marriage to Constanza.

Nieves is resting on her bed, Mauricio is sitting in a chair keeping her company. She opens her eyes and is surprised to see him, tells him her pressure goes up and down. He says Moni went for a doctor. Nieves observes that Mau and Monita are getting along pretty well. She then looks him in the eye, you’re good people, I don’t want you to suffer. Pardon? I’m going to tell you something for your own good, she continues. Monita will never leave Beto, they were made for each other. But I thought they broke up, he counters. Is that what she told you? She lied. Those two never stopped being novios! (Bad Nieves, can’t you let one of our episodes end happy? Guess not.)

And great previews again. The kids leave home, Fernando needs $50,000.00, and Salvador tells Mauricio, don’t lock the door on love, because the key doesn’t work twice. Wise words.

Vocabulario was embedded.

MEPS, Thursday, September 17, 2009, Damian and Camilo Go Directly to Jail

Damian says he needs Aurora to put the batteries in the exact spot in order to find out what Barbara is up to. This must be an idiomatic expression unknown to me.

FrEd meets with Father Bosco in the hallway at the hospital to get away from Erika. He tells the good father that they made a mistake. It wasn’t Artemio who beat up Steve. It was Camilo Elizalde. Father is shocked because he thinks that they were about to take someone’s life because of a mistake he made. Ed tells him that they have gotten a little more time. But, Ed says now La Hiena is dying to find out the connection between you and me. Father says there is something worse. I told Artemio Bravo that I would deliver your dead body to him.

AB tells Barb that she is late. She had a lot to do at the hacienda. He doesn’t accept that. She goes on to tell him that she’s about to deliver the Elizalde goods to him. He goes on about Father Bosco’s visit and her call to him. AB grabs her face and asks her what is going on? What happened? She says that the crazy Elizalde was about to leave. She also tells him that she has confided in Father Bosco in order to get his help. He wants to know if the father reported them to the police . She says, no, that would mean that Lili is dead. AB is still suspicious and still thinks that Eduardo Juarez is still alive. He wants to be convinced that he has nothing to worry about. If he gets further proof, Lili will be set free. The priest assured him that there were no ashes. What, she says. He tells her that Bosco buried the body where it would not be disturbed. He’ll exchange the body for Lili.

Ed continues his conversation with Father Bosco. He realizes that Artemio Bravo knows that Soledad’s son returned for justice on behalf of his mother. Bosco says that Artemio Bravo no longer believes the suicide story. The only thing that saved the day was Barb’s call. Then he drops the bomb about delivering Eduardo’s body to Artemio Bravo. He wants Ed to leave. Ed says he’s not going anywhere until Lili is free. Ed wants to distract AB and get Lili out. Father asks if they can get Barb to help. Ed says , no, because she’s just another tool of Artemio Bravo.

Lili cries a perfect glycerine tear all alone in her bedroom.

AB says that he’s inclined to deliver Lili’s dead body to the priest. What a shame, he says that she betrayed him. He will never forgive her nor anyone else who does that. Nobody gets to know his secrets. He heads for Barb. She understands. Speaking frankly – what you did to Montserrat, I’m inclined to do to her daughter.

Meanwhile, Fer shows up at the police station. She says she wants to file an assault complaint against Camilo Elizalde on behalf of a friend.

Meanwhile, dopey Damian parks his car in a public square and calls Barb. He tells her he’s at the place. She can’t get there because of traffic. Meanwhile security has him under surveillance. A police officer with a dog finds something in the trunk of his car. No doubt the explosives he bought for Barb. Damian gets out and sits on the hood. Police cars with officers in full battle dress grab him and place him under arrest. A frightened Damian is taken away.

At the hospital, Erika hangs all over Ed. She is sorry that Lovely’s uncle had a heart attack. Ed says he’s hanging on. She says everything will be OK. He just wants a miracle. He realizes that Lovely is gone. Ed calls Lovely who is running down the street crying. Out of character, Lovely is wearing a frumpy plaid shirt. She says she is going to do what she should have done a long time ago. Franco tries to get her to change her mind.

We watch a robot remove the bag of explosives from Damian’s car. Damian is identified and reported as a terrorist. Explosives removal mission is a success. We are impressed.

Fer reviews the complaint. FrEd calls her and asks her about Camilo. She thinks Cam is probably in his apartment that is located near Lactos. He tells her about Lovely who has just arrived at the apartment. Ed gets a paper from the nurse and writes down Camilo’s address. Erika approaches and asks to borrow his cell phone. She asks if something is wrong. He says, no. Make your call. Of course she sees that he was just talking to Fernanda.

Lovely walks in and flirts with the janitor. She asks him not to call Camilo because she’s going to surprise him. She even has the key to the apartment.

Ed whispers something in Padre’s ear and tries to leave. He has to shrug off Erika at least three times. She wants to go with him. Finally, he says no. You can wait here with Father Bosco.

Camilo emerges from the bathroom to a rap tune and gets himself dressed. Enter Lovely. She skulks around the apartment but unfortunately Camilo exits the bedroom while her back is turned. He looks uglier than usual.

Erika is now talking to mommy and telling her that she’s moving up her wedding date. Her mother says that is not possible. The invitations are out, everything is set. Erika is desperate. Her mother wants to know what is going on. Erika says her wedding is in danger and she wants to get married no matter what.

The argument between Lovely and Camilo gets physical. He’s ready to throw hot coffee at her and she lunges at him. He grabs her and tells her she’ll never laugh at him again. Now you’ll find out what happens to someone who crosses Camilo Elizalde’s path. He rips off her blouse. So now we know why she was out of uniform. She kicks him and then grabs a knife from a drawer. He fights for it. She kicks him again and stabs his hand. He looks at her in horror.

Pris asks Anibal if he knows what happened. She tells him about Damian.

Lovely now has the knife at Camilo’s throat. You’re going to get what you deserve for all the bad things you have done. I have nothing to lose because you have killed the only beautiful and clean thing in my life. He screams, no. She says she doesn’t care if she’s dead or alive. He begs her. I’m not Lovely, I’m Venus, and I have been a working woman all my life, and she’ll gladly die knowing that he’s dead.

Lovely tells Camilo that Steve isn’t going to die alone – you’re going with him. You have to pay because you are a coward.

Franco is stuck in traffic. He has somehow changed into a sport shirt. Barb calls and tells him that she has to see him immediately. He apologizes and tells her he has something else to do first. She tells him that Artemio Bravo plans to kill Lili.

Anibal is trying to find out more information about Damian. He’s on hold. Pris asks him if he he’s involved with Damian. Anibal denies that. Ani sends his regards to Comandante Lazoyo. He tells Pris that Damian has been arrested and is accused of terrorism and that the police found explosives in his car. So, she says, the TV reports are true. You swear you had nothing to do with this. He swears. Ani thinks this is good news because this will silence Vlad.

Lovely still has the knife to Cam’s throat. She wants him to die slowly, one drop of blood at a time. She keeps plunging the knife further into his throat. Fer and the janitor arrive. Fer begs her to stop. Fer says she didn’t come to help her brother, but that she came for you, Lovely. Franco called her and she gave him the address. She knows that what Camilo did is very serious. Two ploice officers enter the apartment.

Damian curses the Hiena. Jacobo says, wait a miniute. Jacoba says the most serious charges are the possession and transportation of explosives, etc. That won’t set you free. You’re sunk. Damian says he’s going to turn Barb in to the police.

Damian tells Jacobo to find Barbara to get him out of this. Jacobo wants to know what he is going to say to Dam’s mother. Tell mom that this all was a mistake and that he’ll prove his innocence and that you saw me screaming and crying.

Mom meanwhile hears the news on TV and can’t believe that her beloved son is in this trouble.

Jacobo, says Damian, go to my apartment, look in my bureau and get the video camera because there is a treasure inside. And this treasure will yield a lot of money for us. (I thought he said jewels???)

Fer is still begging Lovely to drop the knife while the police look on helplessly. She tells Lovely that they are going to take Camilo away. Lovely doesn’t believe her. She’ll take her own justice. Fer continues to beg her and that if you kill him, you will be arrested. Finally, Fer pulls Lovely’s arm away from Camilo who cries and screams at her. He calls his sister a golfa and demands that they arrest Lovely. The police drag him out kicking and screaming. Franco finally arrives and comforts Lovely.

Erika continues her conversation with mom who tells her the church isn’t ready. She called the bishop who told her to talk to Father Bosco and ask him to change the wedding date. Erika is delighted. Bosco walks in and is greeted with the good news that she and Franco can get married in his parish. Bosco is visibly shaken and stirred.

Fer tries to calm Lovely down. Franco has also arrived wearing jeans and a t-shirt and tells her that Steve’s condition is the same. He wants her to go back to the hospital and that he has to go talk to Barbara. He’ll call Fer later.

Father Bosco says that the bishop sent him a letter permitting him to perform the marriage. Bosco wants to know what is the hurry. Erika makes up a lame excuse. The important thing is her marriage to Franco, not the big party. Bosco agrees to perform the marriage. It’s an order from the bishop.

The nurse comes out asking for Steve’s family.

Jacobo is at Damian’s apartment and finds Vlad’s DNA profile. He wonders what it means.

Franco has changed back into his business suit and arrives at Lactos. Gardenia gives him the love stare while Flor calls Bab. Gardenia rubs up against Franco as he passes by. Flor asks her what the heck she is doing. I can look, can’t I. But not that way says Flor.

Barb wants to know what game Franco’s playing. Tell me why you sent Padre Bosco to see Artemio.

Erika and the nurse go to Steve’s room.

Barb remarks that you (Franco) know about Artemio Bravo’s past. Yes, he admits, I know it. What, she says, does Father Bosco have to do with it. At first, he says, nothing, but he’s very familiar with the region he assumed he knew the secret. When I explained to him that he could help free Lili, Father agreed to deal directly with Artemio Bravo in exchange for their silence if AB would free Lili. Barb says that’s absurd. Artemio knows that someone has Ana Gregoria’s diary.

She warns Franco that Artemio thinks it’s him. Franco says that he will deliver the diary to Gonzalo if anything happens to Father Bosco and that he will tell Gonzo everything that has been going on between Barb and Artemio Bravo. Now do you see the difference. Barb has an ah, hah moment.

The nurse tells Erika to talk to Steve. Erika calls out his name and says, it’s me Erika. Can you hear me? Steve shakes his head, yes and says, Erika. She cries a tear of joy because he knows her.

As you can see, Barbara, if anything happens to either Lili or Father Bosco, Artemio Bravo will feel the consequences of all the years of suffering he has caused. He will face the law for all his atrocities. She says wait a minute. Why did you ask me to call the priest at AB’s. Because, he says he realized that AB wasn’t responsible for the assault on Steve. You didn’t trust me and tell me that. She then lays a few cards of her own on the table. She has no doubt that AB will kill (liquidar) Liliana. She then says that if you have the diary, there is one other person who her boss fears and who he doesn’t believe is dead. The boy who has been gone 15 years and who has every reason to get rid of Artemio. That person will have complete control over AB. What’s his name says Franco. Eduardo Juarez, son of Soledad.

Ani reports to Gonzo that Camilo is under arrest. Rays of light emerge from Gonzo’s head. And, you know what else? The person who turned him in is none other than your daughter, Fernanda.

End of chapter.

En Nombre del Amor, September 17, 2009

Rodolfo wants to confess to Padre Juan (Cristobal) about the secret Carlota revealed to him, so Cris goes off to retrieve his stole.

Angelica thanks Emiliano for telling her about the job opening at his office--it sounds like they’ve already offered it to her or are going to, and she’s going to accept. She gives him a hug and Aaron is conveniently in the park observing this with a smile on his face.

In the confessional, Rodolfo doesn’t have any sins of his own to confess, but those of Carlota. She told him a secret with the purpose of getting him away from Macarena, but it wasn’t what she confessed to him, it was the way in which she did it--behind her sister’s back, with rage (saña), with the intention of making Macarena out to be a bad woman without feelings or love for her own . . . . Rodolfo’s phone rings and he has to leave due to an emergency with one of his patients. Cris is left wondering what secret Carlota could have.

Diana is on the phone with someone she calls “compadre”, explaining that if Rafael doesn’t want anything to do with her, there’s no reason for her to stay in Real del Monte. She knows that Emiliano had a good job with him (the compadre) and he left it to return to RdM, but she’s sure that if he calls Emiliano and proposes that he come back, she’ll take care of getting E to accept it, because she’d go there to live with E. But don’t tell E that I called you.

Paloma notes that Macarena looks like she’s been crying, but Mac denies it and changes the subject to ask how things went at school. Paloma spoke to the mother superior to see if she could intervene on Angelica’s behalf, hopefully she can do something. Paloma mentions how nice the house feels without Carlota there, and they talk about the two of them going away together to begin a new life. Paloma thinks they could rent a place in Mexico City and could get a job with Natalia’s help, then wonders why Natalia hasn’t called yet as Padre Juan said she would. Macarena feels that leaving with Paloma would do them good, she doesn’t want to stay there either, so she’ll talk to Carlota when she returns. Rufi overhears this conversation and looks sad.

Rafael tries to get Camila to see him but she claims she can’t, she’d rather not see him.

German is in the park reading a book when Romina happens to pass by--she tries to talk to him but at first he ignores her. Romina points out that finally he’s free, she’s free, life is for having fun, don’t take it to heart so much. Yeah, you’re right, he agrees.

Camila cries as she reflects back on her various encounters with Rafael, their kiss, him comforting at the hospital, holding her hand, etc.

Emiliano informs Diana about the upcoming dedication event at his office, he wants her to meet Orlando. She wants to know if his father already knows Orly and if they got along well. Emiliano thinks they did, but there’s no reason why they shouldn’t. Diana announces that his father insists on divorcing her, and she’s not sure if she wants to keep living there. She whines that it’s very hard for her to live with Rafael’s rejection, especially with all the gossip in Real del Monte. Emiliano suggests Pachuca but she wants some place farther away. She doesn’t want to leave him so he assures her that if she moves away it doesn’t mean they won’t see each other.

Rufi runs into Edmundo, the mariachi, and he notices that she looks sad. Rufi explains that she heard Paloma and Macarena talking about leaving, and she wasn’t included in those plans. She doesn’t have anyone else besides them.

Cristobal has apparently asked Orlando for advice about the situation with Macarena and Rodolfo asking him for help, but Orly doesn’t know what to say. Cris says it’s very difficult for him to separate the priest from the man. Orly asks what Cris feels for Mac but he just sighs. Cris feels if he doesn’t find an answer soon he’s going to go crazy.

Rodolfo does a check up on Macarena and asks if she’s thought about his proposal. Yes, a lot, but I still haven’t made a decision--I can’t give you an answer until Carlota returns, I have to talk with her. He suggests that they talk with Carlota together, but Mac wants to resolve things with Carlota on her own. As soon as she does, she’ll give him her answer.

It’s been a while since we’ve been hit on the head with the bird metaphor, so today we get to see Paloma drawing a dove in flight. Rufi brings her some rags and then mopes a bit so Pal asks what’s wrong. Rufi pretends to be happy that Pal and Mac are making plans to high-tail it outta there, but admits that not being able to see them ever again makes her very sad. Paloma assures Rufi that if they leave, she’s coming with them, and she loves her, she’s like the grandmother she never knew.

Diana paces frantically while Ines asks what she’s going to do, she’s going to be discovered now. Diana is upset that Emiliano wants her at the inauguration party for his company. Ines comments on how ironic it is that Emiliano would end up getting along so well with the man who . . . “the man who ruined my life”, finishes Diana. Ines thinks Diana is exaggerating, after all, it was thanks to your condition as a woman alone and abandoned that you succeeded in getting Rafael. Diana gets offended, claiming she didn’t coax (engatusar) him, he accepted her and fell in love with her. Diana doesn’t know what she’s going to do (about avoiding Emil’s party), but has to find something that will prevent her from leaving the house.

Camila talks with Angelica about receiving letters from Samuel. Ange warns that one of these days Romina and her father will meet, and your relationship could be affected by you having hidden the messages from her. Camila says she can’t keep hiding the fact that Samuel wants to see them--it has to be Romina who decides if she wants to see him or not.

Romina explains to German that she needs to ask her father about a lot of things, but she’s afraid he will reject her and say that she’s not important to him. German says maybe in a way her father already said that to her, by leaving without any explanation. But she wants her father to tell her to her face. They’re interrupted by a phone call from Aaron.

Macarena comes to look at Paloma’s drawing and shows her how to add some shading to the wings to make them look like they’re moving. Paloma is surprised that Mac also knows about painting, like her mother.

Carlota is ticked off to see Alonso sitting in the hotel lobby and learns from the hotel clerk that he’s staying there. She tells him she has nothing to hide and he responds that he has nothing to lose, but a lot to gain. Alonso’s mistress comes up and Carlota says what he’s doing is immoral.

Orlando comes to Camila’s shop to invite her to an art and crafts show and at first she declines, but eventually he convinces her. Rafael arrives and upon hearing about the art show asks if he can join them, maybe he can get ideas for the new ceramics line.

More exasperated pacing--this time it’s Carlota asking herself what can she do with this imbecile?

Aaron stops by to see Paloma and she tries to discuss the meaning of art with him, but he doesn’t get it--to him, paintings just decorate homes, nothing more. Paloma can’t believe it. Before Aaron leaves, he mentions seeing Angelica and Emiliano hugging.

Alonso calls Natalia to ask about Inaki’s belief that Paloma was rich, and she confirms that he had begun an investigation of Paloma’s inheritance.

Emiliano gets giddy thinking about Paloma when the phone rings, it’s his godfather asking if he’ll come back to Monterrey to work.

Alonso barges into Carlota’s hotel room as she’s about to leave. He argues with her that Inaki found out that Paloma’s parents had left her an inheritance and wasn’t poor like Carlota made Paloma believe. That could be the motive for her killing Inaki. He demands to know what she gave Inaki the night before his wedding to provoke the heart attack. A hotel employee knocks to ask if Carlota is ok and Alonso takes off. The hotel guy offers to post someone outside her door and to ask Alonso to leave the hotel. She asks the guy to get her Alonso’s phone number because she’s going to report him to the police.

Camila and her two beaux are leaving the art show when someone calls for Orlando, so Camila and Rafael are left to themselves. He says he has discovered that she’s the anonymous investor, and he wants to know why she did it, he thinks there a reason other than just business.

Padre Mateo finds Cristobal praying--apparently he’s been praying for hours. Padre Mateo gets the impression that something has unsettled Cris and offers to help him.

The hotel employee gives Carlota the info she requested regarding Alonso and informs her that they’re giving her an extra night for free to compensate her for the bad time she’s had. As soon as he leaves, she calls Natalia and tells her that Alonso is with another woman and gives the hotel room number. After hanging up she snarls that if she could, she’d kill him, the same as his stupid son.

Cristobal has told Mateo the whole story, and the padre is worried that he hears a big doubt in Cristobal’s words about his vocation. What is it that you don’t dare confess? Cris answers that he’s very confused. One part of him is yelling to leave the church and become a free man again to remake his life with Macarena. Padre Mateo looks horrifed.

Meanwhile, Macarena prays for help to drive this feeling out of her soul. I feel like a sinner and I’m not one. If my path is to go away with my daughter and forget my past forever, give me a sign.

Cristobal continues on--he’s also convinced about his vocation with God. It’s only when it has to do with Macarena that his world falls apart (I think, couldn’t find it in my dictionary). Padre Mateo warns that to be divided between love for God and love for a woman is very dangerous. I know, that’s why I don’t find peace . . . that’s why I need God to reveal what he wants of me. He wonders if he can serve God not only as a priest but also as a man. Mateo tells him to decide, and fast, and he and thinks it’s better for now if Cris doesn’t give the mass or serve in the confessional.

Camila comes home and finds Romina asleep--she has Samuel’s letter in her hand and says she’ll have to wait until tomorrow.

Diana greets Emiliano and asks if there’s any news. He replies that his godfather called and asked him to come back to Monterrey to work, and she pretends to be surprised. She’s excited because now she can go with him to Monterrey, this couldn’t have happened at a better time. But Emiliano rains on her parade, saying he can’t leave Real del Monte because he has a business relationship with Orlando and he’s starting a business. Diana thinks he could do the same thing in Monterrey.

Natalia knocks on Alonso’s hotel room door and without even looking through the peephole first he opens it. She’s impactada at finding him there and is even more so when the mistress comes to his side.

Carlota sees Natalia leaving and smirks over her glass of champagne.

Emiliano explains to Diana that he had thought about leaving, and if his godfather had offered the job back then he would have accepted, but now things are different. Diana whines that Emil doesn’t care what happens to her, that this is an opportunity for both of them, not just him. He offers to tell his godfather about the situation between her and Rafael if she wants to go to Monterrey, but she won’t have it--if you don’t want to help me get out of here, I don’t want anything to do with you. Emiliano sits her down, saying let’s look calmly at what option is good for you.

Rufi’s mariachi comes to the house to serenade her so she’ll see that he never forgot her. Apologies for not translating his song--I'm way too tired. Paloma comes running all excited and giddy like she’s 11 years old and tells Rufi all about it. Oh, it must be that Edmundo. It turns out that Rufi has never been serenaded before, and she asks Paloma what does she do now? Paloma hasn’t been serenaded either but she’s heard from girls at school that they go out and thank the galan, and some even invite them in! Rufi seems a bit shocked--in her time they only turned on the lights. Paloma ends up dragging Rufi and shoving her outside to thank her mariachi. Rufi tells Edmundo he shouldn’t have, and he replies that he couldn’t find another way to ask her to marry him.

Carlota receives a phone call from a lawyer named Salazar who has news about Cristobal’s whereabouts and asks to meet with her the next day.

Previews: Carlota learns that Cristobal is in Real del Monte.

Thurs 9-17 Gancho - This was a fairly serious episode - Go figure...

Mona opens the door thinking it’s Mau and it’s Beto. Beto wonders why and he says she was thinking about him for something else. She breaks down and cries and Beto turns sweet. He wants her to feel better. He actually says the old Bet is gone and the new working Beto is here and he’ll take care of her and not to worry about the money. He tells her to rest, he’ll watch her sleep.

Tere gets snotty with Mau, she asks him if he’ll fire her too. She doesn’t get why he doesn’t believe Mona and Luisa…he thinks she’s nothing but a liar, but Tere says watch out or you’ll lose the treasure most valuable.

Nieves tells her to get over her fairy tale, they just aren’t real those princes. Mona doesn’t want to hear it and tells them she’ll take care of herself. I loved watching the monkey tug at it’s leash then scratch it’s fleas.

At Mau’s he tells Aldo he didn’t like what he heard yesterday. Just then Coni shows up with Bitty blond chic and her Ma in tow and they want ot says omething to Luisa.

Mona is back training at the gym and Estre shows up to a host of cat calls from the guys and talks to Mona about Beto telling her he is going to take care of her for a change. Estre knows she’s not in love and not to fool herself She knows Mona feels bad. Finally Mona admits it.

So now the little witch says she came to apologize to luisa it was only a joke and they didn’t think she’d get so bent out of shape. The mother starts yelling at teen Luisa (super classy to yell at someone else’s kid I tell ya) that she didn’t have to sick Mona to beat up her little girl. Luisa tells Maira to out with it because she knows Mona didn’t beat on her but mom and Coni double team her telling her to be gracious and accept the apology. Ick. Talk about ratas in the attic…Luisa cries and screams they are all liars and can’t believe Mau is listening to them and she runs off.

Mona goes to church to pray not for her Mom like usual but for lying so much. Estre takes her seat and waits. Mona doesn’t want to give up dreaming of a better life and real love, but she thinks she’s lost her guy so she begs Jesus not to abandon her or Mau and not to take Mau’s kids. She doesn’t want him to get back with her, but she wants him to be happy and she promises to get back in the ring for a next fight.

At Mau’s he chats with Conster. She says she thought it would make things better if she brought the mom and girl over. Coni whines about the kids not liking her, and that maybe this is why he doesn’t think she is right for him. But the important thing for her is that she is by his side and that she’ll help him adopt them no matter what because she cares. Now Mau spews the most profound line that his little cabeza can put together. He doesn’t know if every moment in life has to be happy, but what he does know is that she never lies to him and that he knows her and she walks on solid ground. OOOoooh now that would melt me into accepting a marriage proposal. He tells her she can help with the adoption by marrying him. DOUBLE ICK!!

Jero and Oski the odd couple chase down our cute little Mini driver Fer. They tell Fer he should have talked to them,, his socios who would have helped him get his business resolved and they only would take 30%. Fernando holds his own against these goons and doesn’t fall into their clutches.

Coni of course says yes to marrying him even though it’s not for love, and this has been her dream since she met him. He begs her not to tell anyone yet, that he’ll find the right time to tell the kids himself. She swears she’ll never come between him and his kids and he needs to trust her. Anvil time. She screams after he leaves.

Pau and Gabi chat about her date the night before. Gabi remarks how big her smile is this morning. Sal comes upon this giggle fest and sends Pau off to clean his disgusting office. He tells Gabi he needs her. Gabi tells her she’s not talking to him and anyway if he wants to fire her he may as well as it’s in fashion around there.

At the schoolhouse the evil kids are laughing about the photo of Luisa with the toad. Aldo comes up and grabs the phone and throws in a few punches at the guy. Now this kid knows how to throw cell phones. He slams it into the pavement and it cracks up into pieces. He clearly earned an A in the CEA mobile communication device aggression transfer class. J

Beto goes into Mau’s office knocking after the fact. He begs Mau to listen to him about Mona, that she didn’t deserve to be fired. She meddles where she shouldn’t have but did this out of her big heart trying to defend his daughter. He tells Mau he did protest her firing becauseMona doesn’t need the job he’s going to take care of them. He again is denied being able to tutear Mau, but whoops it came out anyway, or maybe he was telling himself to be careful not to say it. He asks for a salary increase. Mau tells him to talk to Sal.

Mau gets a call from school about what Aldo did and Mau’s on his way.

Mona and Cesar are chatting about her training for her next fight and that Beto is going to help because he’s changed….Ces also is skeptical. Mona has rededicated herself though to boxing, she wants to be herself.

Oski tries to woo Gabi again..she bites not. He manages to tell her that Fer doesn’t exist and prove it with papers showing he has no bank accounts etc, they had him investigated.

Mau goes to the school Aldo says Mona has nothing to do with this. Mau says she does. The three get mad because he never listens to them. They don’t want to be at this school anymore. He finally agrees to change the school but what our little DanI wants is that he not fight with Mona and that he makes up with her. He tells them get used to her being out of their lives.

Oski continues trying to impress Gabi that Fer is fake. She thinks he would have made a good actor and dismisses him. He goes to leave and runs into Sal,
who despite it taking great pain explains to Oski that they have to ally to unmask their foe Fer. Oski agrees, and the unlikely duo with matching raspberries is formed.

Mona back at the ring is training hard with an opponent when slimy Conster shows up. She wants to say a bunch of nasty crap to Mona like stay away from Mau, and she looks better like this than in the little skirts she flirts with Mau in (let’s ask the guys…) and Mona tells her to leave her alone first. She says she could tell the naco boyfriend that she was running around with Mau, but she needs to forget she knew him. Blah blah blah…Calls her apestosa (foul), and to stay in her cloaca (sewer). Here are some good words for us!!

Estre follows her and throws some words her way, Coni replies she’s a gata, naca, and golfa and Estre says you forgot perra, because that’s what I turn into when you mess with my peeps. She tells her maybe Mau will be with her, but he’s in love with Mona and will think of Mona each time he’s with her. Coni sizzles at that and gets in and goes off.

Ivan gets back from Guanajuato, and finds things are still mal around the house. He learns of the joke on Luisa and tells them they have to do something so these kids fall into their own trap. He clearly was worried about Lu.

Gabi is eating with Fer who is talking about his project in Wisconsin. HELLO WISCONSIN!!!! It’s a hotel by a beautiful lake, and he needs the Sermeno Group project too to make it a reality. Gabi asks him to go pay the bill and she rifles through his pockets to pull out his wallet. He comes back and discovers her. She tellshim the truth that she was told he doesn’t exist. He says there is a reason and to read hi full name. Turns out his last name is Retrete Pulido (Clean Toliet) so of course he doesn’t use it. Gabi laughs but apologizes for making light of it.

Nieves is all happy they are setting up dinner together waiting for the man of the house. Said man comes in with shirt that says give your heart what it likes (or similar). Mona wants to talk to him.

At Mau’s Coni is pissed because Mau is moving the kids to another school. He explains the story but she is stuck on the fact that he didn’t ask her first and well if they are going to get married, that has to change. Aldo hears this part and is impactado.

Next Mona tells Beto she doesn’t want him to hear it from gossip. The man she fell in love with is Mau. Dum dum dum dumm.

Mañana es Para Siempre, Thursday, September 17--Ep #147: Witness what happens when you've got junk in the trunk

Damian really, really needs to find out what's going on with Evil Barbie…or so he thought bubbles as he drives.

Franco explains to Padre Bosco that it was Camilo who bet the snot out of Esteve. PB points out they were about to hand Eduardo over for a mistake. Franco says it's ok, but now Barbie will want to know how they're connected. PB informs him that's not the worst of it--he promised to hand over Eduardo's corpse!

Evil Barbie complains to Artie that she took a long time getting there because it was hard for her to get out of the hacienda. Artie notices that that's been happening a lot lately. Barbie says they shouldn't argue--they're about to achieve his life's work. She'll have everything in her name soon. Artie wonders if that's why she suddenly became delirious and wanted to confess to Padre Bosco. He grabs her face and asks her what the heck is going on. She tells him that she thinks it's time to let Lili go, but Artie wants to know why. Barbie doesn't think they should have anything at the end of this but the Elizalde money. But since he never listens, she sent the Padre. Artemio says he is becoming more and more suspicious that Eduardo is alive, but since PB is intent on convincing him that he has nothing to worry about, he's going to hand over the corpse in exchange for Lili. Barbie reminds him about the crypt, but Artemio tells her that PB assured her there aren't ashes--he decided to bury him so that Artemio wouldn't profane the tomb. Barbie confirms that they're going to trade the body for Lili, but Artemio says it's only so that Lili can be buried in the same place as Eduardo!

Franco is finding out that Artemio is convinced that Eduardo Juarez is alive and wants revenge. Padre Bosco says he offered the body in exchange for Lili, but now he's complicated things more. Franco says until they get Lili back, he's not leaving. He doesn't know how to resolve this, but he's going to still and distract Artemio until they can get Lili out. Eduardo doesn't think the deal with Barbie is really getting him anything…he thinks she's just another of Artemio's pawns and Lili's life depends only on Artemio's whims.

Lili cries in her room and looks at the chess board. FREE LILI!!!!

Artemio tells Barbie that he's going to give the priest Liliana's body. He thinks it's too bad what happened--he trusted her and she betrayed him. He won't forgive her for that…he won't forgive anyone for betraying him. He wonders if he's regretting Barbie's scruples. She has no idea what he means (and neither do I). "Good, then" he says, because he doesn't see a difference between what Barbie did to Montserrat and what he's going to do to Lili.

Fer goes to the police and turns Camilo in for beating "a friend".

Damian pulls up to a public area with other people around. He checks his cell and calls Barbie. Barbie is still on the way, she says she's caught in traffic, but almost there.

The feds have Damian under surveillance. A man with a dog goes up to Damian's trun and the guy signals that the dog sniffed something…the explosives, I presume. Now the cops roll up, sirens blaring and big scary weapons pointed at him. Damian gets his dumb ass arrested. They put him in the back of a truck.

At the hospital, Erika says Lovely told her that Esteve had a heart attack. She's sure everything is going to go well, though. Franco hasn't called Steve's parents, but he guesses at some point he'll have to. He starts looking around as he realizes Lovely isn't there. Erika saw her leave, but Lovely didn't say where she was going.

She's walking down the street and answers her phone, crying. She tells Franco she couldn't just sit there and she's going to do what she should have done already. Franco tells her to come back before Esteve wakes up and needs her. She says she's going to kill Camilo and hangs up on him.

Now they've got a robot checking out Damian's car trunk. Damian gets driven off in the back of a truck. Another cop calls it in that Damian Gallardo is being brought in for possession of explosives and on suspicion of being a terrorist. Ha. Ha. Hahahahahahahahaha. A reporter blasts Damian's name all over la televisión. The bomb robot pulls out a couple of sticks of pink TNT. Dude, I like anything if it's pink. They do a lot of complicated loading of it in some kind of tank.

Fer reviews the typed up report from the cops and thanks the lady at the desk. Her phone rings. Franco tells Fer that Lovely is gunning for her brother. She supposes he's at his apartment and Franco asks for the address.

Lovely pulls up in front of Camilo's apartment in a taxi. She looks scared and weepy and stands there for a minute.

Franco writes down the address on a piece of paper he gets from the nurses at the desk. Er borrows his phone cause she "left" hers at home. She sees he called Fernanda.

Lovely says hello to the desk clerk and asks him not to tell Camilo she's on her way up…she wants to surprise him. He agrees, after she tells him she's got the keys just in case Camilo's not there.

Franco tells Er he's going to find Lovely and asks her to wait there. Er gets all clingy. Franco firmly tells her he's going alone and she's going to wait with Padre Bosco. She agrees and he leaves.

Camilo hobbles around getting dressed and listening to bad hip hop. He makes it as far as getting on a shirt and a pair of jeans when Venus walks in. She puts her jacket down on a chair and edges toward the bedroom. Unfortunately, he comes out from another door and sees her before she sees him. They both look at each other angrily and Venus hyperventilates.

Erika tells her mom she's pushing up the date of the wedding. She wants to do it in 8 days. Dolly laughs at her. Erika throws a tantrum about needing to do it whether there are guests and a party or not. Dolly wants an explanation. Erika says her wedding is in danger and she'd rather die than lose Franco.

Camilo thinks she's there to tell him that Esteve is dead. He tosses her around, then pours a coffee. She grabs him by the hair and gets in a few kicks, but he gets one arm twisted around behind her and threatens to show her what a man he is. He's going to show her what happens to someone who says Camilo Elizalde's not a man. He rips her shirt, but she knees him in the groin and then finds a big knife in the sidebar. She comes at him with it, but he gets a grip on her wrist. She knees him again and then stabs him through the hand, pinning it to the sidebar. Eek…I hate hand trauma!

Pris comes into Anibal's office to ask if he's heard what happened. She's referring to Damian being a terrorist.

Now Venus has Cami by the hair and has the big knife at his throat. She's telling him this is for him and all the men in her life who have done whatever they wanted with her without caring how sick it made her. She says they all satiated themselves like beasts. She asks if he still wants to punish her (he sobs "no") and tells him he's so "soberbio" (arrogant, haughty) that he still thinks there's a way a man like him can punish her. She says there are no ways left to make her suffer, because she's been through it all. She has nothing left to lose because he killed the only good thing in her life, so she came to make him pay because he still has something to pay with, he cares about his life, while she doesn't care anymore if she lives or dies. He's scared! She calls him on having called her names a few minutes ago. She tells him her name isn't Lovely, it's Venus, and she's been a whore all her life. She wants him to look at her so that he knows that it was a "mujerzuela" (prostitute) who sent him to the other world.

We go to break. When we come back Venus tells Camilo, over his screams, that Steve's not going alone…Cami will go first. She's sure he's not hurting nearly as badly as Steve was when he and his buddies beat him up…because she's sure Camilo didn't act alone, he's too much of a coward. She's slowly dragging the knife along his throat.

Franco is stuck in traffic. Barbie calls him and he reports he's stuck in traffic. She wants to see him ASAP, but he says he's got something else to deal with. Barbie says they've got to get Lili out right away because Artemio's going to kill her.

Anibal is on hold. Pris wonders if he had anything to do with it, but he has no idea what she's talking about. He gets information, sends a hello to Comandante Lozoya (the one and only named cop in this show…every show's gotta have just one), and tells Pris that Damian was detained on suspicion of being a terrorist. His trunk was full of explosives . Pris still wants him to swear he had nothing to do with it. Anibal says either way, this is great news for the two of them. They've silenced Vlad, and Damian going to jail makes him practically dead.

Venus tells Camilo not to worry, she's going to take sure his death will be slow, so he can feel what Steve must have felt. She notes his blood is red, not blue. Fer walks in with the desk guy from downstairs. She begs Lovely to stop, but Venus says that no one was there to beg Camilo to stop when he was beating on Steve. She says she's not going to stop just because he's Fer's brother. Fer tells Lovely she's not there for Camilo, she's there for Lovely. Franco called her to tell her where Lovely was going. Camilo starts trying to beg, but Venus shuts him up. Fer says she's got to let the cops deal with this, just as the cops come running in. I would say that startling a woman who's holding a big knife to a man's throat is a bad idea if you intend to stop her from cutting him!

At the police station, Jacobo has showed up as Damian's lawyer, I guess. Dam screams that Barbie must have set him up. Jacobo tells him they're throwing all the baddest parts of the book at him and he's not getting out on bail…he's in it up to his neck. Damian grabs Jacobo and tells him to find Barbie and tell her to get him out of this or else (I didn't understand his "or else" something about taking her between his feet?). Jacobo agrees. He wants to know what to say to Damian's Mommy. Dam says to tell her it was all a mistake and Jacobo is going to get him out…he doesn't want that "vieja" (old lady, but really disrespectfully in this context) showing up and yelling at him and crying.

Said Mommy sees the news on TV. She starts the yelling and crying without him.

Damian tells Jacobo to go to the apartment and take out some papers and a video camera. Dam wants him to just take the stuff and guard it. It's a treasure that's going to become more valuable with time.

Fer keeps pleading with Lovely that the cops aren't there for her, she turned Camilo in for what he did, the cops know what's really going on. Lovely wants assurances that he's going to have the shit kicked out of him in jail, but Fer can't guarantee that. Fer keeps reasoning with her, that if she kills Camilo, she'll go to jail and then Steve will wake up and find out the person he loves most in the world is in jail for murder. Fernanda keeps inching closer and gets the knife away from Camilo's throat. She gets Lovely on her feet and covered with her shirt. Camilo starts screaming that Lovely's really a whore and she's going to pay, blah, blah, blah, as the cops carry him out. Fer is trying to calm Lovely as Franco walks in, having missed all the action. Venus looks like she's in shock. She starts crying and runs to Franco.

Erika talks to Dolly. There's no room in the original church for the day Erika wants. Dolly understands she wants to rush things, so she talked to the bishop, who's going to talk to Padre Bosco, and get the wedding done on the day Erika wants. Padre Bosco walks into the lobby and Erika gives him the "good" news that he gets to marry her and Franco. He doesn't look too happy about it.

Back at Camilo's place, Lovely's gotten a new shirt. She says she feels better, but she's still crying hysterically. She wants to see Steve and Franco wants Fer to take her back to the hospital while he goes to find out what's up with Barbie. Fer doesn't like this, but she agrees.

Padre Bosco says if he gets a letter from the bishop, he'll have to do it. Erika says they'll have the wedding as soon as Steve is out of danger. PB wonders why she wants to do this so quick. Her excuse is that when Steve is all better, he's going to want to get back to the US and since he's their padrino, it's better to speed things up. Er says she's realized it's the wedding that's really important, not the party. PB is glad to hear it. He very craftily avoids saying he's happy about it, just repeats that if he gets an order from the bishop, well, an order is an order. The nurse comes in looking for Steve's family so that the doctor can give them some information.

Jacobo finds Vlad's DNA profile and wonders why it's worth a lot of money.

Franco comes into Grupo Lactos, says hi to Flor, disses Gardenia, gets announced to Barbie, and goes into her office…once Gardenia gets out of his way. She is just shoving her body at him any chance she gets. Flor calls her on it, as if Gardenia cares.

Barbie gripes that this isn't a game. Franco's on board with that. She wants an explanation about what Padre Bosco was doing there.

The doctor and Er are all in scrubs, Er says she's Steve's best friend's fiancee.

Franco verifies that he knows who Artemio really is. Padre Bosco had nothing to do with it at first, but when he found out PB had been around for a while, he assumed PB must know the secret. He talked to PB and PB offered to negotiate Lili's release. He was supposed to get Artemio to let her go in exchange for their silence. Barbie says that Artemio knows that PB knows all and has refrained from killing him only because he hasn't felt like it yet. Franco says they have Ana Gregoria's diary as ammunition, but Barbie informs him that AB already suspects that Franco has it. Franco thinks this is good news, because if AB touches PB, he'll spill the beans to Gonzo, including Barbie's role in all this.

The doctor wants Erika to talk to Steve. Erika says "Steve, it's me, Erika, Franco's fiancee, do you hear me?" Steve kind of groans and then manages to get out "Erika." Erika is impactada and cries that he recognized her.

So, just to clarify, if Artemio does anything to Padre Bosco or Lili, Franco will screw up his whole revenge scheme and he and Barbie will have to answer for all the evil stuff they've done. Barbie still wants to know why she had to extract Padre Bosco from Artie's house. Franco explains it was because he'd just realized Artemio wasn't responsible for Steve's beating. Barbie complains that he didn't share that info with her. She knows that Artie is going to be thrown off for a little while, but in the end he'll still kill Lili. The diary puts them on equal footing, but there's one more piece of information that Franco needs to be one up on Artie…Artie is afraid of someone, someone he thought was dead until recently, a kid who left Mexico 15 years ago and would probably want revenge on Artie. If Franco finds this person, he'll gain control of the situation and he'll have absolute power over Artemio. And who is this person? Eduardo Juarez, the son of Soledad Cruz.

Anibal comes into Gonzo's office to tell Gonzo that Camilo has been arrested. Yes, he's sure, and guess who signed the "denuncia" (report, complaint)…Fernanda! Gonzo is impactado.

And that's all for tonight! I feel a little low on snark this episode, but there was so much heaviness and not a lot to mock. I'll try to make up for it next time :)

Un Gancho Wed 9/16 - Monita is liberated from work, Mau is liberated from his brains, and Estre/Aldo are free to do whatever

¡Viva Mexico! ¡Viva la independencia! Today we celebrate el Grito de Dolores, 199 years of Mexico's independence from Spain.

Big thanks to Gancho al Dedos who agreed to swap nights with me.

Yesterday:
Fernando de Lorenza...yum!! Suddenly Gabi grows hungry and agrees to meet him for dinner. Sal does not share her enthusiasm.

LeFort tells Mau he has info on Constanza but he wants to talk money first. Geez, this guy is putting the squeeze on everyone. It's a miracle he hasn't been bumped off yet. Instead of buckling like everyone else Mau threatens him to stay away from Coni and everything that is his. Got it? Le Fort finds his patas en la calle.

Friends, tonight was all action and no filler. But that's typical for this TN, no? Let's begin...

Over at the neighborhood Moni asks Beto what in the heck was he doing with Coni, in fact (she gags) he stinks of woman! Poor Beto must be an aroma sponge. No no, Moni is the only woman for him. Doesn't she miss him? They work together, live near each other, yet they are far apart. Sometimes Beto has the soul of a poet, a randy poet, but a poet nonetheless.

Mau bitches to Coni about that horror Le Fort and demands to know the secret. Coni whines that when he broke up with her she, er, contemplated suicide. Yeah, that's it, she felt lost and suicidal. But she knows better now "so let's not speak of it again, OK? I'm off to cook something yummy so we can eat together. " El Cuerpazo sin Cabeza believes this Crapola.

After Coni leaves Mau finds Moni's hankie on the floor and gets all moony-eyed.

Let's get back to some romance. We find Gabi and Fer in a cozy tête-à-tête at the restaurant. He complains a bit about people not taking his business seriously (do we know what he does yet?) and Gabi says Sal's not that bad but he's stubborn and has problems at home. Fer thinks maybe things might have gone better if he'd met with Mauricio and he even wore his lucky socks (los calcetines de la suerta). But he's philosophical, unlucky in business, lucky in love as they say. He talks about Gabi's fab mouth and closes in for a kiss...

But they are interrupted by a chipper Ximena, Hola Gabis! Gabi says kisses and chao, beat it! Ximena is confused, why say chao when she's just arrived? She wants to join Gabi and her guapetón. Fer is interested in Ximena's last name, is she related to Mau? Ximena's says she'll have what they're drinking. "Nothing at the moment," answers Fer. "Yes, that's what I'll have," says Xime, looking even more confused.

Aldo sulks in his room instead of joining the family for dinner. When Mau goes to find him Aldo admits it's because Mau has forbidden him to see Estrella. Blah blah, she's older, blah blah, but she's my friend. Aldo promises that he won't do "anything bad" with Estre so Mau relents. Something tells me that what Mau thinks is "bad" Aldo will define as "good".

Estre and Moni stuff their faces with pizza while Moni gives Estre the skinny about having merengue in her hair and taking a shower at Mau's place. Ooh la la!! Moni's phone rings and it's guess who? It's Mau and he can't sleep. Moni asks if the mummy is still at his place? No, she went home. (That's friggin' unbelievable. Coni is harder to get rid of than the rata that has recently discovered my attic!) Mau asks if Beto is with Moni? No, they're over! Then Moni reminds him about his "goodbye forever" kiss. Well, he DID mean it. She says from this day forward she will only tell the truth. And the truth right now is if she doesn't go to bed she'll be late for work and her odious boss will be mad. They bid a romantic farewell, Moni kisses her phone and Mau stares at his split-screen love.

Back at the restaurant Fer visits the little boys room and Gabi manages to get rid of Ximena with the promise of earrings just like hers. I can't believe Xime leaves without her bright green drink. Gabi tells Fer Xime felt sick and left, the kind of sickness that one gets in bed, get it? (Shame on you Gabi!!) Fer tells Gabi she's absolutely marvelous and Gabi says even though all the guys tell her that it's nice hearing it from him. Don't you just love her?

OK, we're already 20 minutes into this show and we haven't seen Luisa at school yet. The suspense is killing me.

Next morning at Grupo Sermeño (GS) Moni brings Mau his hot cappuchino made especially for him and el jefe is in a lot better mood today. For now. Mau gently scolds her about her habitual tardiness and tendency to escape from the office. If she keeps it up her coworkers will start to do the same. She admits she has a big problem with the hands of a clock (tengo grandes problemas con las manecillas del reloj, cute) and she loves going through doors, but she'll try.

Well, I asked for it. We're at the high school from hell and Luisa gingerly approaches the acned youth. (Honestly, this guy is a complete dweeb. What girl would give up hunkalicious Ivan for this kid? He looks like a Q-Tip!) He tells her he's been looking for her. Does she like him? Good because he likes her too and he wants to show her how much. "Shut your eyes," the little turd coaxes. Poor Luisa shuts her eyes and puckers up for her prince. Meanwhile the Heathers sneak up with a gigantic amphibian and instead of kissing her prince charming Luisa kisses the king of toads. She shrieks and runs away while the hideous Heathers and their bobble-head boy toys giggle like idiots. (Can you tell I have zero tolerance for school bullies?)

Pau finds Moni crying but this time they are tears of joy. The joy is short-lived however, because Luisa calls Moni and, sobbing, tells her what happened at school. Maira humiliated her in front of everyone. "Maira is the kid (la chamaca) from the other day?" asks Moni, steam coming out of her ears. She orders Luisa to wait at school for her. Moni calls Estre and tells her to listen up...

Grand mistake #1: Monita does not tell Mauricio what happened to HIS daughter.

Gabi approaches Mau about Fernando de la Rosa, an entrepeneur with a little business that might be of interest to Mau. Mau wants to pass him along to Sal but Gabi presses. Mau finally agrees to see the guy and he wants Gabi to send Moni to him. "Uh, she left with Paula," Gabi replies. "She escaped? She escaped?!" Mau demands.

Grand mistake #2: Monita escapes.

Monita, Estrella and Pau go to the school and force Maira to apologize, in Spanish, with tears and wringing of hands. Estre thinks maybe Moni was a bit hard on the escuincle. Moni says she's a criminal in the body of an escuincle. Moni tells a smiling Luisa that she can call her any time for help. The tres amigas clap their hands and depart arm-in-arm, their job is done.

Coni goes to GS and discovers that Mau is Mr. Cranky Pants. She doesn't believe he's fretting about work, "you're thinking about the monkey" she accuses. She tells him he's the president of the company and he should fire her. If he doesn't eradicate this mule from his life he is going to end up seriously damaged.

Surprise surprise, they are interrupted by a phone call from the school director. Mau is impactado, what does she mean Valentina threatened one of Luisa's classmates? Coni hisses in victory, "You see? You see?"

Sal is irate at Gabi for negotiating an interview between Fernando de la Rosa and Mau after Sal already rejected the guy. Gabi accuses him of being jealous just because Fer is a lot younger. "Fer? You called him Fer?" demands Sal. Gabi answers the phone and it's guess who? "Oh hi Fer," Gabi coos, tossing her hair flirtatiously.

Moni and Pau return all hyper and happy over their moral victory but the moment they get out of the elevator Gabi tells Moni to see el jefe ASAP. He is very mad about her leaving.

And now comes my favorite scene of the evening...
Estrella waits for Aldo on the lawn outside the classroom. She was going to a casting and happened to see him. No, that's a lie, she came to wait for him, they ended things badly last time and she wants to clear the air. He says it's no big deal, he understands if she doesn't like him. "No that's the problem, I like you too much," she admits. Finally, we get a full-on no-holds-barred kiss between these two! Aldo tells her he loves her. "What can I do, I'm in love with you too," she sighs. Aldo's happiness is palpable and our sweet couple enjoy another bliss kiss. Wow, Estrella smiles even when she kisses. I love that! I had to watch this scene at least three times.

We return to Mau's office where his mummy is talking to La Directora on the phone, "On behalf of MS and myself I beg a thousand pardons and we will do whatever is necessary." Coni bitches to Mau that it was amazing was happened, it seems Moni was a complete naca and beat up the kid. Mau can't believe it. "Oh believe it," says Coni, "it's what La Directora told me, and the kid ended up in the infirmary."

Moni enters the office and is impactada to see Coni in there with Mau. Instead of responding to Moni's comment however, he orders Sal to prepare Monita's final paycheck. Why? Because she's fired!

Looks like the commercial break wasn't long enough for anyone to cool off because they are all still breathing fire. "Why are you firing me?" demands Moni. Coni butts in and say it's because she beat up a 14 year old! Mau pipes up he knows she's a boxer but fighting with a minor? What was she thinking? Moni insists she didn't hit anyone. "Believe me, believe me, I didn't do it," she begs. But Mau's fired up, and he yells that her behavior has seriously jeapordized the adoption and he might lose his kids because of her. Sal suggests that he listen to Moni's explanation. Mau's too furious and says why bother, ever since he's known her all she does is whack people and lie. (Hmmm...the big dummy's got a point.) "Now get out of my company!" he commands.

Oh thank goodness, we're back with Aldo and Estrella who are still kissing and overcome by the mad rush of fresh love. (Sigh...remember when?) Estre promises him she's never felt like this about anyone. Aldo is on a slightly different tack, "what do we do now? Get a hotel?" Uh oh, our Estrella's been around a few corners and is instantly suspicious. She accuses the lovesick cub of wanting one thing and one thing only. She knows how the story goes because it's the story of her life, he only wants to get her in bed and then he'll leave her all alone like always! Aldo tries to back-pedal but it's too late. Estrella leaves in a snit and she sternly commands Aldo not to follow her. Dang, things happen fast in this show!

Moni packs up her things while Pau watches and worries that she, too, will get fired. Beto shows up and asks what did she do to get fired? He gets all macho and tells Pau that the old doll hair (Mau) will listen to him. Pau advises Beto to stay put or he'll get fired too. (Remember when Beto hated to work? Now he's worried about getting fired.)

Sal continues to plead Moni's case to Mau until Coni asks him can he not respect the president's decision? Then Sal asks what about Beto and Paul, are they going to decapitate them too? Nope, Mau doesn't want to fire anyone else because of Monita. (That's big of him, eh?) Gabi interrupts them to announce that Fernando de la Rosa has arrived. Sal starts to pop off again and Mau shuts him down to Coni's utter delight. In fact, when she leaves the room she is fairly jumping up and down in glee. Things are finally going her way.

Coni wastes no time in running to her cohorts Jero and Oski so she can brag that Monita is history. Jero comments that her talent for evil is truly admirable. Coni laughs she did nothing, Moni sunk herself. Jero corrects her, Monita fell into the water and Coni threw her a cement life ring and the poor thing ended up at the bottom of the sea. Si, si Coni sneers, and now what she needs to do is get Mau to marry her and the sooner the better.

Fer leaves Mau's office; he is all smiles and gives the thumbs up to Gabi. He calls her mi amor several times and, under the spying eyes of Oski and Sal, suggests they celebrate over dinner. Gabi agrees and after a couple of kisses they bid adieu. Gabi fans herself as Oski eyes her curiously.

Thankfully our Aldo has never been good at obeying orders. He is at Estrella's door pleading his case, she misunderstood him, everything was perfect, she said she was in love with him. "Then you invited me to a hotel!" she snipes, reminding him that men succumb to their natural urges. (Listen honey, you're with a hormonal youth. What in the heck did you expect? Sorry, I digress...) Aldo explains that he felt so many things he was about to explode. (I'll bet.) He just wants to be with her, to kiss her, to touch her, he wants her to be the last woman in his life. He's so gosh darn sincere that Estre can't resist giving him another kiss. Whew! All better.

They are interrupted by Monita who scolds her friend for being with the baby. I laughed out loud when Aldo tells her it's OK because Mau "gave him permission" to be with her. Estre knows something is up so Moni tells them she was just fired from GS, and in front of the mummy of all humiliations. Moni is on a tear and won't be happy until Aldo leaves, but it's OK because Estre will call him later. Moni tells Estre she'd better not even try to explain whatever idiocy she is doing. Did she say "tell it to the crazy fists"?

Join me in Mauricio's house of horror. Mau and Coni are on the attack and Luisa is on the receiving end. Mau wants to know why she asked Moni for help instead of calling him. Fair question. Coni butts in and starts screaming about the bad influence Monita is yada yada. (Translation = if you think I'm a harpy now just wait until we are married.) Luisa insists that Moni didn't hit anyone, it's all a lie. More shrieking from the mummified harpy until FINALLY Mau tells her to wait in his room.

Luisa tearfully explains to Mau she was interested in a guy. Maira made her believe he was interested in her too and she was stupid for believing it. Luisa cries in her papi's arms.

Now for the kookiest scene of the evening...Beto arrives home and tells Nieves that Monita wouldn't talk to him. Nieves gets on his case and tells him it's time to strike. He should take a bath with smelly soaps then console and seduce Monita. "If you don't want to lose her then fight for her!" she concludes. Oddly, Beto takes umbrage. I can't tell whether he offended that Nieves has suggested he "cuchiplanchar" with Monita or that he needs to bathe first before she will "cuchiplancha" with him. He sniffs his armpits, but Nieves tells him she was, ahem, thinking of the nether regions. (Hey folks, I don't write it, I just report it!) OK enough of this, let's just say that Nieves gets her way. Knowing her she scrubbed him herself.

Luisa insists Monita didn't hit Maira. In fact she gives him Maira's number and tells him to call her himself and ask her. (Do we think Maira will tell the truth? Nah!) Aldo bursts in the room demanding why Mau fired Moni. Luisa chimes in, "You fired her for defending me?" All hell breaks loose, the kids are mad, Mau and Aldo are back on the outs, and our galán can do nothing but furiously clench his well-chiseled jaw.

Well well, guess who used to be a Heather when she was in school? When Mau relates the story to her, Coni laughs and says she wishes she had a picture of Luisa kissing the toad. Thankfully Mau calls her cruel. Mau wants Luisa to change schools but of course Coni tries to talk him out of it. Oh naturally he wants to believe that Moni didn't hit the kid. No really, he says, and he shows her Maira's phone number. Coni decides she will call Maira's mom so that Mau can be with Luisa. He ACTUALLY THANKS HER and agrees it's a good idea. Que the hell?!? OK, he's stupider than Dr. Dumb from QE.

My friends, the plot becomes even more heinous...Coni immediately makes the call and greets her friend Coca who apparently is Maira's mother! Coni says it's horrible what happened and if she has her way Mau will never adopt those brats. So they'll end up in the street, so what? She says the witch who threatened Coca's daughter is a cat who is trying to steal Mau away from her. Now she needs a big favor from Coca. She pretended that the naca actually hit Maira and now Mau wants to talk to them. Oh, Coca, would you really do that for me? You're a love.

Gabi and Fer are in a restaurant complimenting each other profusely and happily celebrating Fer's success. Who should walk into the bar but the unlikely pair of Sal and Oski? Oh wait, they're not together. Sal asks Oski what he's doing there. "The same as you," says Oski, "wondering who is this Mr. Nobody who has stolen Gabi from me." Sal corrects him, Gabi is the love of HIS life.

While the two losers bicker Fer tells Gabi he can't believe what's happened to him, yada yada, eh??? Isn't that Salvador in the bar? Yes, Gabi says, and that's Oskar next to him, but she refuses to get involved or even look at them. Fer notes that they are having a rather heated discussion. We see them point and push each other. Sal tries to strangle then punch Oski. Oski punches back. Sal throws Oski around, Oski throws back. Fer and Gabi kiss and the losers fade to black.

Moni is in bed and recalls the day when she and Mau were in the period telenovela and they shared their passionate kiss, then the day when he asked her to marry him. She hears a knock on her door. Mauricio? Nope, not Mauricio, but instead a clean and no doubt completely sweet-smelling Beto.

Tomorrow: I hate Coni I hate Coni I hate Coni

Dicen que desafortunado en en los negocios, afortunado en amor = Unlucky in business, lucky in love, as they say.

Los calcetines de la suerte = lucky socks (this link has nothing to do with the telenovela, but it is the story of one of my heroes who believed in his lucky socks)

Tengo grandes problemas con las manecillas del reloj = I'm habitually late (Lit. I have big problems with the hands of the clock)
