Una Familia Con Suerte #7 Thu 10/13/11 Fernanda pulls the strings and everybody jumps (and cries and shouts)

Hello friends, didn't my son Ez do a great job recapping on Monday? I'm trying to persuade him to take a day but - taking his cue from the way Fernanda sicced Rebecca on our hero Pancho - he said - "only if you get some alarmingly attractive woman to come convince me." Seriously though you could write him at cerberez [at] gmail.com and tell him you want to see more of his funny writing!

There are only two of us currently recapping this show. Volunteers? I'm barely getting over strep throat so here's another bare bones recap, feel free to add details in the comments.
  • Setting us up for a splendid "pride goeth before a fall" moment (not tonight), Pina picked a tie for Mr Presidente. He says he's going out with Enzzo, she pitches a jealous fit, he thinks she's perfect for telenovelas, how about "The Carnival of Pina" or "The curses of Pina" or "The sins of Pina..." hah.

She goes in to the tv room to whine on Freddy's cold shoulder. Next day she yells at the maid about the juice at breakfast and tells Vince (who's all hi-and-bye) she'll organize him a party.
  • Vince's bimbo of a secretary does a strip tease for him in some hotel I presume. "Make me yours, Mr. President!"
  • The grand meetup of the fresas and nacos at the party was kind of a bust. Eventually they get it straightened out - that "Freddy" is Alex and "Lupita" is Elena and Monica is there because her car broke down etc. Insults get traded. Pepe eventually fixes Monica's car (by replacing the wire he took out of it) and tells her about his little deception. "You're cute when you're angry," he says, channeling the Taming of the Shrew.

Ana's band sings the show's theme song about our noble-hearted hero Pancho Lopez. Pancho dances with Rebeca. Chela seethes behind the buffet table.
  • Pancho still doesn't want to sign but invites Rebeca to come next day and go to the market with him, "see a day in the life of Pancho." Ugh, he sticks his tongue over his bottom teeth and leaves his jaw open, Ez and I both say "EEEWW!" in unison.
  • Is the flouncing Arnoldo ever going to have an actual purpose? He flounces in and tells Vince to wear the green tie, "it's the tie of a king, an emperor."

The bimbo arrives and falls into Vince's arms, I was sure Pina would appear, but instead she is yelling at her hairdresser and tells him, too, that her hubby is soon to be emperor, I mean king, I mean president of Avon.
  • Surprise, surprise, the festival was not the solution to the neighborhood financial problems. The whole baying pack of hounds (the family and other residents of the neighborhood) start arguing about whether Poncho should accept the makeup gig (and become Poncho the Honcho).
  • A moving van pulls up and here is Enzzo with his goons to evict everybody at once, pronto. Remember, this is on Fernanda's orders - but he's happy to oblige, he already has a buyer who wants to put up a shopping center. There's lots of crying and shouting. Rebeca shows up! Ostensibly for her day at the vegetable market...

... but she calls off Renzo's dogs, to his chagrin (he complains to Fer on the phone but she haughtily reminds him all his dough is from her and he should just button it) and tells him she's paying off Pancho's whole debt ...

... and back at the casa popular Rebeca shas the contract in her purse, and it comes down to this: sign, and Fernanda pays your debt, saving your patrimony and the casa popular and all your neighbors.
  • The pressure continues, ok eventually he says yes. An excellent public service announcement is delivered by extras chanting "Read The Fine Print Whenever You Are Presented With A Contract" and Pancho asks Rebeca to read him the contract but he falls asleep somewhere in clause 16...

... and when she wakes him up he says he believes in a person's word. "Do you trust me?" "Yes, do you trust me?" "Yes." He signs. She calls Fer with the happy news. Chela is not happy, she confronts Rebeca and yells all the same things she yelled yesterday and so does Rebeca.

La Fuerza del Destino #47 Wed 10/12/11 Alex lives a fairy tale while Lucrazia and Maripaz face a nightmare

RECAP BY URBAN ANTHROPOLOGIST

This will be a little shorter than usual because I have an appointment today. Please provide any missing details. Gracias.

Antes

We're back at the Love Shack on the Beach. Somehow these silhouettes look distorted. At least the fireworks are still pretty.

Nuevo

Carlota (on vacation) and Lucrazia (at home) talk on the phone about selling the house and Lucrazia tells her about JJ's blackmail with the wet price tag. She tells Carlota about the two wells Camilo has found; Carlota comments on how he's from heaven. Lucrazia darkly comments that Merry Piece also seems to think so. Carlota says no way does a nice guy like Camilo deserve a disaster like MP. Lucrazia is also freaking about the accident scene photo and about how difficult it is to manage Merry Piece, who feels like home is prison. Too bad, so sad. Carlota wonders how much more trouble MP will cause. What she needs now is a tarot card reader to tell her what's coming.

Restaurant: David and Camilo talk a little about Mondragon business and more about how David and his family suffer because of JJ's selfishness, with particular mention of Judith. Esther is resigned to JJ's bad character, but Judith suffers more. She hasn't ever even had a boyfriend. David seems to see Camilo as a candidate for that position, although Camilo points out that his father was a construction worker, his mother came from a working class neighborhood, and his sister is a single mother. Camilo raises the issue of Saul possibly being the sperm donor for Lichita. David is impactado. But only a little.
La Playa: Ivan and Lucia talk amor. “Nothing and nobody will separate us. Never.” Which we know means something or somebody will before the end of episode 49.

Commercial Break that leads with a promo for Protagonistas.

La Playa, morning: Tony and Ivan talk; Tony has figured out that something went bump in the night. Alex arrives just as they begin talking about the relative difficulty of revealing the truth and Ivan goes off with Alex to start his swim instruction.

Hotel in D.F: Antolin meets Caroloony in her room . They begin kissing very intensely before he leads her out into the hall. She will definitely like what she sees when she gets her sight back and maybe she'll untie the apron strings to Alex. Ojala.

La Playa: Tony and Carlota. She apologises for her brusqueness of the day before. She's wearing loose pants, a blue peasant blouse, and her daytime pearls.
Carlota: Our problem, Tony, is Maripaz. And not precisely because she's back in the house. She did something very serious, but I can't talk about it.
Tony: I respect your decision, but don't forget that if you need help with anything you can count on me.
Carlota: It's been so many years since I met as good person as you. Not since my Teodoro died.
Tony (teasing): Are you proposing marriage?

They both laugh. These two are perhaps the best love story in this tale.

Casa Curiel: JJ and Saul arrive. Cleto looks apprehensive as they approach the house. It's a courtesy call to thank Lucrazia for the water. When she mentions Camilo JJ is curious about the connexion between him and Ivan.

La Playa: Tony and Carlota continue their conversation. She mentions being the pillar of a female family; he admires her strength in holding her family together. Another joke about marriage.

Casa Curiel: Lucrazia makes JJ and Saul a little uncomfortable with a reminder that Ivan stole Lucia from Saul. JJ covers up by saying that perhaps Ivan is smarter. Lucrazia mentions that Ivan and Lucia are very much in love. Merry Piece arrives just as JJ decides to leave. Lucrazia tells JJ that Maripaz decided to give up her apartment and move back in but he doesn't give a damn. Goodbyes and the Meandragons depart. From the brief exchange between JJ and Saul it sounds like neither of them know that Lucrazia isn't the daughter of Don Teodoro because they think that Ivan and Lucia are first cousins.

La Playa: Benito and Lucia talk while Ivan teaches Alex to swim. Benito comments on Lucia's beauty and her goodness (no, he isn't flirting with her) and that he can see how much she loves Ivan. Ivan is enjoying his Dad Time and Alex is very excited at the prospect of swimming with dolphins. This kid is adorable.

Rancho Galvan: Camilo is finishing a conversation with an engineer as Judith arrives, saying she was looking for him at the office and was told where he was. She's dressed in a brown, short-sleeved number with a lot of pockets, like she's going to meet Indiana Jones. She brought him lunch. He thanks her and asks her to have coffee with him later. He gets a flashback of his mama slapping him upside the head about Lucia being his best friend's novia. We hope Judith can cook.

Commercial Break.

Dolphin Pool: Alex is in Kid Heaven playing with the cute bottlenose dolphins, watching them do their leaps, riding them, letting two lead him by their dorsal fins, and going around on boards that must be dolphin-powered. Ivan and Lucia share this experience with him and they are all having a great time. Pool scene ends with them kissing the dolphins and the dolphins “kissing” back. ¡Awwwww! Afterward the three humans talk about how intelligent dolphins are, how their brains are almost the same size as humans', and that they recognize each other. Like humans. Alex wishes Gerry were there because he loves animals. All is well for the moment.

Video is here in case you missed it. It's in the middle of Part 2.

Casa Curiel: Carlota calls Lucrazia to discuss Merry Piece.

Lucrazia: What's up, mama?
Carlota: You know very well
Lucrazia: To begin with, I've resolved the water issue with Juan Jaime. At least that business is concluded.. (falsely cheerful) So what's going on with you?
Carlota (stern): What do you think? I'm uneasy over this matter of Maripaz. Fortunately Lucia knows nothing of this business and she is very happy because Ivan arrived.

(Merry Piece enters the room behind Lucrazia.)

Lucrazia: I thought he wasn't going.
Carlota: He changed his mind. And for your information when we get back he's giving a party at his home to announce his engagement to your daughter.
Lucrazia: Finally some good news. This marriage will suit us more than ever.
Carlota: No, no, no. This isn't about our convenience. Forget about taking advantage of this.
Lucrazia: Mama, it's that a single man of Alamos wants to marry a Curiel. That's what's important. (She notices that Maripaz and her attitude are in the room) Well, mama, I have to go. Call if there is more news. (She hangs up)
MP: What was that?
Lucrazia: As you heard. Ivan and Lucia will marry. When they get back it will be announced.
MP: Ah, yes. La mosquita muerta leaves you, too.
Lucrazia: I forbid you to talk that way about your sister.
MP: Of course. Now that she's going to marry a rich man you defend her. Have you forgotten that she is marrying the son of a servant?
Lucrazia: That is of no importance to you.
MP: But it is. Up to now you had been ignorant but now you know very well that Ivan has a game plan. It's not only that our blood isn't what you presumed but now it's both your daughters. Both your daughters. Wait until everyone finds out. And how happy will you be when people are talking?
Lucrazia: Look, Maripaz, you will not say another word about this or I swear you will regret it Before you annoy me any more I'm going out and don't think about going anywhere. Cleto has orders to stop you.

As she exits Merry Piece wears her usual petulant expression. It goes well with her ramerawear.

Poolside: Alex, Ivan, and Lucia are having lunch. Those umbrella drinks look riquissimos. Ivan and Alex decide to go to the mall to get some movies to watch in the room. Gerry calls and Alex tells him about the dolphins, then hands the phone back to Lucia. As the menfolk depart, Lucia has the Same Conversation As Usual with her dad about La Verdad. Oy vey, Maria as the viewers roll eyes once again.

Casa Curiel: Saul calls MP saying he has something interesting to tell her. He shows up at the house.

Saul: ...and now those desgraciados are getting married.
MP: And how would we make those turtledoves (tortolitos/little tórtolos), renounce their engagement?
Saul: You! You can make them.
MP: Me? How?
Saul: They're cousins!
MP: Por Favor, Saul! That also occurred to me but that won't do it. They're getting married ASAP.
Saul: Very well. But there's something you don't know and it will be a good thing for this. I know that years ago you had a child with Ivan.
MP: That's a lie and stop this nonsense.
Saul: Don't try to deny it because at this moment it suits us. I know that you had a child with Ivan and I know where that child is.
MP: This is impossible, Saul. That child is lost. Stolen.
Saul: Well, he appeared at a good moment.
MP: What are you saying?
Saul: It's your father. He has the child and Ivan knows that. He is obsessed with getting him back. Understand that this is what he most wants in life. To get his child back.
MP (incredulous): My father took the child?
Saul (impatient, bordering on angry): That is the least important of it. Don't be stupid. I'm telling you that as the mother you have more rights than Ivan. You can protest that this imbecile that if he wants his child he'll have to marry you.
MP: You think so?
Saul: You could marry a millionaire! Lucia will be left dressed and [aborted?] and will want to get back to me but I won't have sloppy seconds. [plato de segunda mesa.]

De verdad, this guy looks like he's about to have an apoplectic fit. Which would work for us.

Commercial Break with promos for Protagonistas and the Latin Grammys.

Casa Curiel:
MP (still incredulous): Are you sure that this is the child I had with Ivan?:
Saul (more psycho than ever): What have I been saying? Segurissimo!
MP: But why did my father take the child?
Saul: What does that have to do with this? [need help with the rest of this. It sounds importantly vicious.]
MP: But how do we show he's my son?
Saul: Ay, mi reina, don't you watch television? There are test for this. DNA
MP: You're right,
Saul: Of course I'm right. I've thought it out.

Lawyer Guzman's office: He's a handsome devil, so where was he when Merry Piece was still shopping for a lover? He explains to Lucrazia that she needs to provide registration documentation of the house to prove ownership and that it's a shame she needs to sell Quickly. He says it's a beautiful house and perhaps she's looking to get a better one. I don't think he's fooled, though.

La Playa: Lucia and Ivan discuss Caroloony, Gerry, Alex, and what to do. We roll our eyes again.

Casa Curiel:
Saul: Of course Ivan will have lawyers and they will have their tricks but you came back home and can show you're a good girl, and there's nothing to stop you taking your child.... Congratulations (he kisses her cheek)
MP: I'm going to talk to my mama, papa...
Saul: For the moment, just be calm. You want to prevent Ivan from finding out; you don't want them to tell him about this.
MP: I'll have to get a lawyer, but I don't have the money.
Saul: No, no, you don't have to [need help with this part] But above all, don't tell anyone I told you about this.
MP: But why?
Saul: Because my father will kill me.
MP: But what if the child isn't as important to Ivan as you think? [Obviously she hasn't been listening very well to Saul's ranting] How would I support him? Besides, I don't like children.
Saul: There's your mother, your father, your grandmother. Not to mention that Ivan would pay a big allowance to support the child.
MP: That's true! (They both get up, she hugs him) You really know what you're doing!
Saul (hugging her back while rolling his eyes): Yes, I know. (slaps her arse)

These two really deserve each other.

La Playa: Ivan and Lucia love talk again. As the beach is otherwise deserted, they prepare to imitate the famous beach shot from the classic film From Here to Eternity.

Poolside, sunset: Tony and Carlota dangle their feet in the water while Bruno sits on Tony's other side. They talk about the Ivan/Alex/Gerry situation and how this could potentially involve the law because of Gerry's actions. Carlota is more worried about Maripaz. “She's my granddaughter and I love her, but there's no telling what she will do.”

Restaurant, evening: Camilo and Judith on their first “date”. He's still in a plaid shirt but at least it has long sleeves and looks brand new. The cameraman is giving us all Judith's best sides and she's all smiles about that.

Judith: So how is it that Ivan gave you those lands?
Camilo: They were his.
Judith: He must love you a great deal.
Camilo: We've been friends since childhood. He went to the US for a while, came back, and we renewed our friendship.
Judith: It's beautiful to have friends like that. I almost don't have any. Maripaz was one once, but after everything that's happened -- she divorced my brother and everything that's been said about her – my parents don't want me to see her.
Camilo: But what about hanging out with Lucia?
Judith: Yes, but Lucia was much younger and when she went to uni she got other friends.
Camilo: And didn't you study?
Judith: Yes. I'm a decorator.
Camilo: I mean a career you study for at university.
Judith: My parents say women don't need that. They only thing we're supposed to do is find a good husband, have children, and take care of the house.
Camilo: Do you agree with that?
Judith: It wouldn't bother me, but at times I think I'll stay [need help here] and I don't have a novio.
Camilo: Who would believe it? You are a [pretty?] woman.
Judith: Thanks a lot. But then the sons of my mother's friends don't do anything for me.
Camilo: So you need to go out and...
Judith: Well, I used to go out with Maripaz, but we'd run into Saul and he'd rat me out about whom I was talking to, dancing with. He's exactly like my father. Oh, my father. At times I hate him.
Camilo: No; don't say that. A father is a father.

Casa Curiel, study, night: Merry Piece enters, pointedly eating an apple. Lucrazia looks up from her papers in annoyance.

Lucrazia: Cleto says Saul came to see you.
MP: I needed someone to talk to.
Lucrazia: What did you talk about?
MP: Some friends. It's strange the others don't come to see me. And you? Where did you go?
Lucrazia: To a realty company about selling the house.
MP: This house? Why?
Lucrazia: Have you forgotten that you killed a woman and we have to pay 5 million pesos to a blackmailer for his silence?
MP: I thought you were going to pay with the money from old man McGuire.
Lucrazia: No. I don't want to and neither does your grandmother. We're going to sell this house and live on the ranch.
MP: Well no way. [ni modo]
Lucrazia: You think you can protest this? You will have to agree.
MP: [Need help here]
Lucrazia: Maripaz, did you tell anyone about this accident?
MP: No, para nada. I'm not crazy.
Lucrazia: Cleto told me that his nephew wants to buy a wreck. [coche enchocado]
MP: That's good.
Lucrazia: The car is in David's name.
MP: I will talk to him.
Lucrazia: You look too calm.
MP: Do I have another choice? When are Ivan and Lucia returning from their pre-honeymoon?
Lucrazia: I understand in about a week.
MP: And therefore Grandma will also be back?
Lucrazia: And Señor Anthony and Alex, your father's son.
MP: My father's son? Why did he go?
Lucrazia: What's that to do with it? Lucia loves him very much.
MP: I don't see how Ivan would want to take care of a chamaco lactoso.* Or does he also love him very much? [*If this means nursing infant Maripaz has had ten years' worth of Lost Weekends]
Lucrazia (impatient): Why is this important to you? You're distracting me from doing the accounts.
MP: Si, Mama.

She gets up and bites loudly into the apple as though giving her the finger. Lucrazia leans on her hand in frustration. It obviously hasn't yet occurred to her that Maripaz knows who Alex really is.

Commercial Break

Restaurant: Judith and Camilo finish their dessert and coffee.

Judith: And what was your father like?
Camilo: He was a good man. Hardworking, likeable, he always worried for us, his family. He was in charge of a bodega de transportes. He had been a construction worker.
Judith: You loved him very much.
Camilo: Yes, we all did. When he died we felt like we lost the head of our family. But my mother stepped in. She is a strong woman. Tiene su character, but at the heart of it she's as good as bread.
Judith: You're lucky to have a family like this.
Camilo: When my father went I felt I had to give up my studies. But she wouldn't let me; she was tough. She would clean and iron to help me pay the university bills.
Judith: How beautiful.
Camilo: Oh, but it's getting late for you. I'd better take you home.
Judith: I've had a really good time. (Camilo signals the waitress for the check) And you? Did I bore you?
Camilo: Not at all! Of course not! Where did you leave your car so I can take you there?

He pays the waitress, telling her to keep the change. She thanks him as he and Judith get up and leave.

Judith: Thanks for the invitation; I hope this won't be the last goodbye
Camilo: Of course not. Let me accompany you.
Judith: Thanks again.

She kisses him on the cheek before they leave. Los metiches from the charity event are at it again.

Olga: Oh, that's the Mondragon girl.
La mas Joven: Si, and who's that young man? He's handsome.
Olgaa: But a pauper.
La mas Joven: But all the young people dress like that these days.

Casa Mondragon: Esther has been waiting up; Judith arrives home. She tells her mother she was hanging out with female friends. Esther tells her that JJ has gone up to bed. Despite the doctor's advice he's been going around all over the place all day. Judith wonders if he's up to no good [cosas chuecas] and Esther tells her not to talk like that. They say goodnight and Judith goes up to bed.

La Playa: Alex sleeps on the outdoor bench. Ivan picks him up to bring him inside. It's a real Dad Moment for him and he cries as he talks about what it meant to bond with the boy that day. Lucia has a concerned expression on her face. Ivan tells her they have to talk to her father about how to tell Alex the truth. He wants to be a real father to the boy.

Ivan's room: Ivan pleases us by being shirtless once again. Tony knocks and comes in. After Ivan tells him what a great day he had with Alex, Tony informs him he's here to talk about other stuff. Like he's sure there is a family problem that Carlota isn't sharing with him and that it has to do with Maripaz. Ivan wonders whether it's about money because Camilo recommended an expenditure that Lucrazia vetoed. He also mentions the 4 million pesos from them vs. 6 million pesos Maripaz spent on jewelry. This does not compute. He contemplates asking Lucia about this, but Tony says not to destroy her happiness with questions about her sister. But he does want to know where the money went.

Guzman's office: Lucrazia hands him some documents and explains she wants this handled confidentially. Maripaz looks away from her. She should be looking at Señor Guzman. But he's likely too smart to fall for her except as a One And Done.

Casa Lomieli, outside: Antolin and Caroloony arrive and he escorts her to the door.

Casa Curiel: Lucrazia chews out MP on the way in. She isn't taking any excuses from her about the accident. Antolin tells her on the phone he wants the money tomorrow.

Avances:
La felicidad de Ivan y Lucia corre en peligro as payment for Antolin's silence comes due.

Vocabulary:
chamaco lactoso- nursing infant
chocar- to wreck /coche enchocado- wrecked car
chueca- crooked
desgarbada- gawky
ni modo- no way
plato de segunda mesa- sloppy seconds; another man's leavings

Cuando Me Enamoro #124 Wednesday 10/12/11 Let's Celebrate happiness... NOT...

Recap by Marta Ivett:

Sorry did not have much time, watched the ep this morning and this recap is out of memory basically...

Renata meets with Augie at restaurant…
She tells him fairly directly that she wants to break up with him because as he knows, she has not stopped loving Jero and she reconciled with him.
Augie tries to give her a guilt trip and then drops the bomb on her, that Marina is expecting a child of Jero’s… and maybe with this news Renata might change her plans.

Meanwhile Jero visits Gina and they congratulate each other on the newly found happiness…

Berta goes to Augie’s hotel room but he wants nothing to do with her…

At the office Adri and Matt are ready for the trip, suitcases in the office all packed up. Chema comes in and is not remembering at all his chat with Adri the day before, he even calls her mi amor and wants to go out to dinner. She tries to explain in the most gentle way she can that she talked to him last night and she is about to go on a trip with Matt… In comes Matt, who is not so ‘gentle’ in unceremoniously telling Chema to butt out and that they are heading out on a trip together. Chema is very confused but leaves…

Roberta convinces Gina to let her go out alone and meets with Fina in a restroom in the mall, avoiding the guards that Gonzo had sent with Berta and Fina. I believe Fina tells her that they have to get rid of Gina soon, before she turns 25. Berta is not really invested in the plan but since fina keeps repeating to her that she likes living with plenty of money, she can always tell Gina the truth and Berta would lose everything…

Fina watches Berta and gets concerned about her health, that nothing can happen to her BEFORE they get the money and they can go live the life they deserve… too funny, Fina, so Berta can’t USE you and ABANDON you at her leisure but she is only USEFUL to you until the rest of the money is in your hands… GEEZ!! (GMAB!!!!)

Gina invites everyone to got to the Virgin of Guadalupe cathedral( can’t remember how they called it) to thank God for her finding her daughter, for Connie’s recup, etc… Of course everyone says will be there…
The first one to arrive besides Gina is Renata and they share a very moving connection stare in front of the altar… then Jero and everyone else arrives, everyone is thanking God for either Berta or for their newly found happiness… except Renata who is begging God for guidance in what to do, and Berta who is still whinning that the real daughter of Gina should have been her.

After the church meeting, they meet up at Gina’s who seems to have set up a dinner and they are toasting for the new happiness around.

Nata seems to be wanting to have an internal self-torture session, she won’t tell Jero what is wrong but spends the night hugging Jero in a chair in his bedroom anyway…

Berta texts Augie that his plan did not work… Augie is smoking fire… but texts her back that he will have Nata, either the easy way or the hard way…

Carlos and Lazaro talk about the situation with Kari… they have to find a way to keep her from leaving town. Lazaro says only if Dr Nesme really died, and they tell each other that neither would go that far… of course not. Manuela tries to convince Padre to tell Kari the truth but he won’t bulge either… he enjoys her soup… funny scene…

Matt and Adri arrive at the convention.. there was only one room reserved for them, which Adri finds very inconvenient for the hotel to be full to capacity, Matt is only too happy about it.

Fina gets to buy a gun from a thug out there… (my guess: surely there will be blood and someone in the virge of death… maybe that is how things will get revealed… someone can donate and someone can’t?)

Previews are a bunch of quick shots... Augie and Jero fighting or arguing, Nata anguished... not really much revealed there...

Una Familia Con Suerte #6 Wed 10/12/11 Free tacos! Woohoo!!!!

It's the Pina Opines Show with special guest Fernanda. Pina broadcasts Fernanda's cancer diagnosis to the whole world and asks, "how much time do you have left to live?" (Vince, who is watching the webcast, knocks down his secretary in dismay. He is supposed to be throwing a fit, but it looks as though the actor is trying hard not to laugh!) Fer is impactada. Pina asks her audience at home to pray for Fernanda's health. She says they deserve to know how much longer the most admired businesswoman in Mexico will live.

(Vince is poking aggressively at his phone. He has the secretary ask Rinaldi for a minute-by-minute report on the company's stock transactions.) Fer tells Pina's audience that the doctor didn't say exactly how long, but it'd be a few months. "And the months fly by!" Pina exclaims, barely concealing her glee. "I'll leave the presidency and travel; I don't want long painful treatments to extend my life in misery." She speaks philosophically for a while, and Pina becomes increasingly uncomfortable. Fer concludes, "life always gets the last laugh."

They've been listening to the interview at Casa Popular. They agree that Pina had some nerve asking such a question, and Fer handled it well. They again discuss whether Pancho should take Fer's offer, but no one seems to have any new thoughts to add.

Fer returns to her office and tells Rebeca she's looking forward to announcing her successor. Rebeca tries to talk her out of it, but Fernanda wants her to attend Pancho's party tonight. She also adds that she has a sensitive mission for her. "I'll give you all the details," she says, but we don't get to hear them.

The festival at Casa Popular begins. Pancho gives a happy opening speech encouraging the attendees to eat and pay for everything. Lupita suggests that he take a bath, put on some nicer clothes and make himself handsome, and sell his kisses.

Yummy tacos are served, but I don't get to see enough of the food.

Jerry, the bouncer/doorman at the gate (the same guy who worked the club where Pepe kissed Mónica last week) is supposed to be charging a fee of 20 pesos (that's about US$1.50 at today's exchange rate) per person, but hardly anyone is paying. Heh, some bouncer! (Jerry grumbles... what kind of accent is that? He doesn't sound local!) Tomás and Elena get in without paying. Betty goes in too, wanting to be with Tomás. Lupita misses her flirting by a split-second, but I smell trouble...

Temo, napping, dreams that he meets his mother, who died the day he was born. (Snif!) She tells him not to worry, that everything will be fine. He wakes up happy and tells Chela about his dream. Pancho comes in, and Chela gets grumpy. Temo wants to know what's going on. Pancho tells Chela he appreciates all she does for the family and all the sacrifices she's made for them.

Vince is still hopping mad when he gets home. (And the actor still looks like he's supressing convulsive laughter.) Pina says she did it for him. She feels that revealing Fernanda's illness will force her to appoint a new president right away. Vince says he knows he's going to be the next president, so it wasn't necessary to tell the whole country that the old lady is drying up (la anciana se está secando). But Pina can't wait to be the First Lady. He calls her a monster. Then she practices for his presidency like Vince did last week. Vince says, "to hell with humility!" and joins her. (Their maid is horrified.)

At the fiesta, Candy is eager to do her performance, but Chela tells her there will be more people around to watch later. Then, hopping around nervously she tears her dress. Chela promises to help mend it, but I'm wondering what's going to happen to such a delicate garment when she's dancing for real. (Candy is dressed like a cocktail waitress; Chela is wearing the frumpiest thing she could find.)

Mónica is driving around in a dubious-looking neighborhood with Karina, supposedly looking for the Britney concert. (I don't know which Britney that would be, but that's the "kinds of music you'll never hear" that she taunted Pepe about last week.) They're lost - Mo says she doesn't use a GPS because she and electronics don't get along. Naturally, her super-expensive car breaks down. Freddy's not answering his phone and the wrecker can't come for another couple of hours, so she decides to call "José," that mechanic. (She is referring to Pepe, whose phone number she supposedly threw away.) She demands his help in the rudest way possible. Pepe discovers that it's just a loose cable, but instead of securing it, he decides to pocket the cable and tells them it's a serious problem that he can't fix here and now. He offers to take them to his house in La Burra so they don't have to wait around here. He asks a sketchy-looking guy to keep an eye on the car.

Pancho, having finished his bath and change of clothes (not an improvement, IMO), finds Rebeca at the door in a sexy red dress. "¡Virgen santisima!" Pancho exclaims. "Not exactly," Rebeca replies. Chela sees her and is obviously peturbed. Rebeca says she actually came to see Chela, to ask her to convince Pepe to take the job. After all, she's like his conscience. They're together all the time, they couldn't even live one without the other. It's a great opportunity for him. Chela runs through all her reasons why Pepe should NOT take the job, which boil down to wanting to improve their lives through their own efforts rather than a windfall. (Yeah, like being president of Avon is going to be a cakewalk!) They like their life the way it is. Rebeca says that complacency breeds mediocrity. "Believe me, I understand your reaction. It's obvious - you're totally in love with Pancho and you're afraid to lose him."

We now discover that La Burra has bright flashing neon lights in addition to the obnoxious braying-donkey horn. "Where are we, Calcutta?" Mo complains. (She complains a lot.) She makes fun of Pepe's poor knowledge of world geography and doesn't want to go to the festival. (Pepe tactfully doesn't point out her poor knowledge of local geography.)

Pancho laughs off Rebeca's claim that Chela is in love with him. He says she's family, and practically his sister. Rebeca asks her directly if she isn't in love with Pancho. Chela tells her to mind her own business. Pancho again sings Chela's praises as a family member and again scoffs that she'd be in love with him. Chela stomps out, wounded and mortified. Pancho invites Rebeca to the festival so that she can see for herself why they don't want their lives to change for some presidency.

Chela mutters indignantly and gets her sewing kit.

Jerry the doorman continues letting kids in for free. Alex (as Freddy) arrives and asks for Lupita. Fortunately, Elena (as Lupita) is there to intercept him. Alex doesn't pay either. Jerry grumbles.

Meanwhile, the real Lupita is crying hysterically because she just caught Tomás sucking face with Betty. Elena and Alex soon run into her, but she's not interested in an introduction. "Let's go to my house, ELENA!" she sobs, dragging her off. Alex is confused.

Chela fixes Candy's dress and tells her about Rebeca's latest visit. (They call her a lot of names - skinny, anorexic, consumptive - but she's no thinner than they are, as far as I can tell.) Candy thinks Chela's jealous of Rebeca. They start to argue, but are too wound up about the festival to continue. (Then, to add insult to injury, Chela is obliged to serve a taco to Rebeca. Rebeca is wearing a white coat. I keep waiting for something terrible to happen, but there's no payoff.)

Pepe and his fancy little harem arrive at the party. Mo holds her nose. Pepe asks Chela if they've raised enough money yet and observes that she's making a face like they're getting evicted. (He explains to Mo that some guy wants to kick them out, but he screws up the guy's name.) Chela just scolds him for wearing dirty clothes.

(Pina and Vince are still celebrating his "last day as Vice President." LOLOLOLOLOL)

Mo complains some more about the food and everything else. (She is a real delight. Karina seems to be having a good time, or at least making the most of it, but Pepe only has eyes for the sourpuss. Typical.) She gripes about not wanting to see Candy's show. Karina says, "well, we're not getting to see Britney, but at least we'll see this."

Elena spends a long time with Lupita trying to calm her down and cheer her up. She urges Lupita to go back to the party - why give that bum Tomás the satisfaction, and besides, the kids need her. She even helps Lupita blow her nose!

There's a sack race at the festival. Mo looks frightened.

Supposedly Rebeca has tried all of the tacos. She liked the mole best. Then Candy comes out to do her dance, and it is at this odd juncture that we say goodnight. Will her dress survive the ordeal?

Cuando Me Enamoro #123 Tuesday 10/11/11 Cuando No Enamoro!!!, SOCCER???? QTH?

So I sat down to do a lovely re-cap for all of you this morning, things are getting really good. The Mexico vs Brazil game was all I got!! So unfortunately I have nothing to post except Futbol highlights. If anyone got anything please share. I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!!!

UPDATE: Here is a mini-recap based on the highlights provided by commenters Audrey, Susanita and Chuchi:

Agustín in going to Dr. Tatas to get a check-up and clear to fly, is delighted to overhear (and confirm) that Dr. Tatas is pregnant by Jero.

A lot more lovey dovey with Jero and Renata, but the real world calls, and they eventually make plans to leave their love nest and have the important conversations pending.

Roberta tortured her mother by letting Fina watch (via computer video conference) her being "mothered" and spoiled by Regina, and afterwards told Fina how much she despises her. Fina, however, looks like she might have gotten the upper hand by threatening to reveal all to ruin Roberta's current good life. Fina swore that she could destroy Berta even if she is her daughter- nice ha?

Gonzo announced to Mopias, Hons, and Cons that Roberta is Regina's daughter.

Cons is visibly upset. Mopias is not too happy, either. Hons gives Gonzo Roberta's phone, but neither bothers to check on which calls have been received even though they both know that Malafina has been trying to contact Big Mouth Roberta. The mobile accidentally falls to the floor; the two men commiserate about it a bit and Gonzo says he will get a new mobile for Roberta.

When Nata finally gets into the office (she was a tad distracted), Mopias warns her that she still needs to be careful of Roberta. Mopias emphasises that Roberta is not to be trusted. Hard to say whether or not Nata understood that Mopias was truly concerned about her.

Nata and Adri share a happy girl to girl talk.

Ines and Regina have a conversation at the breakfast table. Roberta is in the background hiding and overhears everything.

Ines says that all are very surprised at the Roberta news as both she, Isidro, and Hons expected that it was Nata who was Regina's daughter. I don't remember the Whiny Regina's reply, but Ines says that now she has no reason to stay and will give Isidro the go ahead on their move to Guadalajara. Regina is upset at this as she does not want Ines to leave, but Ines reassures her that they will always be like sisters even though they are not related by blood.

The good Padre (from his sick bed) gives Doc of the Tetons a good 'I told you so lecture' to which she replies that she loves Jero and will do anything to keep him. I think she conveniently neglected to tell her tio that she was preggers. When the Padre said that Jero was still in love with his 'wife', Tatas responded 'ex-wife'. Wowsers. You think that makes a difference, Tatas?

Carlos calls Jero to tell him that Dr. Death will be ready to be moved to his new location in a few days. Jero says he will return to La Bonita by then. He also tells Carlos that all has been patched up between Nata and himself and they are happy lovers once again.

Kari is doing her usual song and dance routine and telling Matilde and Carlos she has to leave. Laz overhears the conversation.

Cons and Jero have a brief visit. They discuss that Roberta is 'officially' identified as Regina's daughter. Cons keeps saying 'no' and becomes quite upset. She tries to get the words out, but cannot and can only thought bubble that she knows this is not the truth. or some strange reason she did not react that way when Gons was telling the family. For some strange reason she did not react that way when Gons was telling the family.

Jero tries to calm her down and really talks over her. If he had just shut up, Cons might have been able to say something important to him. I also believe that Jero tells Cons that he cannot believe that it is Roberta who is Regina's daughter and not Nata.

Nata tells Gonzo that she and Jero are back together again and that she is supremely happy. Gonzo is thrilled at this news. They sit down for a bit of a chat and Gonzo asks Nata if she has told Agustin this news?

Nata replies that she has not, but that the bottom line is that she has never loved Auggie, but that he has been so wonderful and such a gentleman to her (RIGHT.) In any event, she promises that she will get this checked off her list very soon.

Said Auggie then bounces into Nata's office and tries to plant a few kisses on her, but she very adeptly turns her face. She looks surprised to see him, but goes with the flow and says that they need to go to the cafeteria as they have important things to discuss.

The fact that she chose a cafeteria versus a nice restaurant or some other location to drop her bombshell might have sent some worry into Auggie's brain, but being the smooth snake in the grass that he is, he hides it very well.

The parents of Carlos make a short appearance, discuss (gripe?) that the Carlos and Mati marriage is not happening as planned, and wonder if it had anything to do with their disapproval. They act like this is a bad thing. What's up with them? We thought they didn't want Carlos to get married. Hmmm...

It ended with Agustín getting to just the beginning of the break-up talk from Renata. Renata explained to him that Roberta is actually Regina's daughter, since she (Renata) doesn't have a congenital heart problem. Agustín doesn't correct her about her heart history.

The avances show that Augustin is the one to tell Nata that Tatas is preggers.

Regina remains a stupid as ever and Berta continues in her bad ways.

Don't know what became of Chema, didn't he pass out in Tyne street the other day?

Cuando Me Enamoro #122 Monday 10/10/11 Moving On, Moving In, Moving Out; It Is All About Motion and Finally, a Night of Love & Romance

A few more photos from the Abq. Balloon Fiesta

We catch up with our characters all going through changes and crises. Regina is deliriously happy that Roberta is in her home, Renata raises herself up from fetal position on her bed to get Jeronimo’s loving message. She responds with a request to meet him at the Mentirosa, she needs him.

Augie has reached an influenza checkpoint at the airport. He argues with the nurse who says he has a fever. He resists, looking bulldoggish, insisting he must get on the airplane, but the nurse is doggedly calm and won’t let him be an exception even though he showers her with and impressive array of verbal abuse so he can get on the airplane. He has to see the doctor for an examination before he can get on any plane, she insists firmly, backed up by two impressively serious guards. This must be a public service announcement from the year when this was filmed.

Somewhere in here we get a quickie prison scene with Nesme swearing that Kari cannot be happy with anyone other than him.

Finally Renata and Jero embrace at the Mentirosa. She starts in, it hurts me to know I am the real daughter of a woman who hates me but who also is a killer. When you called me did you know which of us is Regina’s daughter? No, assures Jero. I just assumed that you would be Regina’s daughter for your similarities. Renata sighs deeply, but I am Fina’s daughter. She tells him she knows he must be worried that her mother was who killed his brother. He doesn’t deny saying it worried him, but he assures and swears that it is no obstacle of his continuing to love her. He wants to be with her.

The comandante questions the house staff at the house of horrors with Gonzo in attendance. The older maid (or is she the cook who has no meals to cook ever again?) gives details of the Señora Clampett hi-jinx, but only knows that Eulalia was ordered to give a bag of Roberta’s clothes to the chauffeur and then was knocked out. Now they have found the gardener, (is he dead? Probably.) She says, Eulalia has already fled to her home pueblo. Gonzo listens with interest and amazement, making a mental note of the rising body count, hopefully.

Renata and Jero swear enduring love and the Mentirosa is almost the scene of their second chance at love making.

A screaming Augie reenters hacienda “Cruz sin Amor” and yells at Zeke since he couldn’t get on the plane without a certificate of health so he wants a doctor or whoever called to get him examined and on a special plane to stop what we are about to see. Zeke, ever helpful, suggests he go see Dr. Tatas in the morning for the certificate.

Renata and Jero are finally in a bedroom. Oh, an oasis in the desert of love! We get to see passion and kisses knowing that there will be no Augustus Interruptus since said AI is hundreds of miles away because of his own arrogance and lack of anger management. The crowd roars (well Carlos, we don’t expect you to ROAR but it’s a whole lot better than a dip in the feather bed with Augie or even with Mr. Cranky Pants Matias and she never even saw Chema up close! Poor Chema, he’s probably having a bit of problem in that department anyway with his migraines. But I digress.

Well the love scene even lsts past the commercial break, hallelujah! We get to see the smiling giggling taking off of clothes.

Don’t let us get too giddy here, let’s switch to a morose coffee sippin’ Lazaro who is confronted in the kitchen by Kari who wants to know what is happening between them. She says you are cold and distant. You don’t come find me like before or talk to me like before. He swears he is busy and worried and she asks is he busy with Arely? How did you know about that? I know! She asks, do you have a connection to her and where did you go last night. Yes, I did take her to another place but I am not going out with her. And yes, something did happen between us last night. She freaks and runs out. He thinks maybe he chose the wrong words? Were there right ones?

Roberta asks where Regina is, has she gone for her clothes? Regina continues stupid and tells Roberta that although she didn’t tell her she thinks Renata has gone off with Jeronimo. How do you know? Jeronimo has told me he has every intention to return to Renata and when Roberta is about to say it is not a good idea, Regina says she will be cherished and cared for by Jeronimo as she deserves. Seeing the sour look, she assures her new daughter dearest that she too will soon find the love of a good man who will love her and value her and make her very happy. Roberta’s manicured hand creeps like a black widow spider in hot pink shoes across the blanket to reach for Regina’s hand in fake daughterly love. She smirks as nastily as the old days, saying she is a bit bored. Regina says I know things are going very rapidly between us but one day I hope that you will be able to call me MAMA. Roberta smirks and mutters to herself as the saintly Regina carries out the tray of food. Why just last week I was thinking about the theory that heaven and hell may be the same place but seem like two places when seen through the filter of either a saintly or sinning character. The sisters seem about to act this out for us.

We see Fina skulking toward the Hon/Con house. It seems like this neighborhood isn’t ideal for the Senora Clampett duds so she is back to skulking in black Russian immigrant garb with another cap on her head. Inside Constanza is having trouble handling her fork and trying to say something. The cell phone that is Roberta’s rings and Adriana answers it to hear Fina swearing silently on the other end. Adriana guesses right away that it might be Fina again. Hon takes the phone and swears he will turn it off and hide it to make sure no one can bother Roberta. Poor Consta tries to say something revealing but no one is listening to her (remember about her knowing the real identity of mothers and daughters from Fina’s own lips.) Adriana makes one of her few mistakes and tries to assure Consta that she is safe and they will take care of her. Consta tries futilely to tell her that this is not the real problem.

Carlos asks Lazaro why he was so stupid, (Laz should date Regina), his answer is that it is easier to hurt Kari with thinking he is stepping out on her and forgetting the wedding than the real reason that Dr. Nasty is still writhing in a bed at the prison. This is surely the only thing to do. He is pained at the hurt he is inflicting on Kari, but so sure that it is better for her to think he is a rat than for her to find out about her nasty husband.

Sobbing on Alfonsina’s bed Kari is assured by her friend that Laz is not bad. She is sure something odd is going on, Lazaro has never had any feelings for anyone but her. Kari cries that he has tricked her and abandoned her. Kari flashes back at the smiling blond, rich Arely charming Laz with a kiss. She cries even harder. Zeke comes in questioning the sobbing friend at the foot of his bed. Alfonsina says Kari knows Laz was with Arely and Zeke freaks out how did you see that. Oops cover story blown for him. He looks like he is calculating how far away Augie could be and still hear this conversation immediately. Maybe there is time to immigrate to the US?

Renata and Jero have already moved on to wine and rich food, the equivalent of the old custom of cigarettes and whiskey. They have been most conservative in this TN in keeping us from seeing much skin. Renata is in a big shirt and Jero is in a bathrobe, seems they may both be his. I don’t remember her ever moving her clothes into his DF apartment. They talks sweetly, loving and being together for ever more. She confesses that when she thought she had lost him, her heart beat as though it would break. He feels her heart which seems to be fine now. (hmmm) They dissolve into giggles and loving embraces.

Roberta has really conquered using Skype and tells Augie he is already too late, Renata is making up and out with Jero as they speak. Where is Renata now? Well, in the arms of her ex-husband, Roberta grins into the laptop screen. Augie says, you are saying this just to annoy (fastidiar) me? No, laughs Roberta so impish in her joy to foil her sister’s happiness and aggravate the daylights out of Augie at the same time. Does this count as multi-tasking? Considering it’s Roberta, I would say yes.

Chema shows up at Adriana’s door (he did remember.) He suddenly asks for water to take his pills. She advises him that he needs to see a doctor (I hope he got the pils from one), any way she says they need to talk of serious things. They sit and he says first tell me how is your mother? She realizes that he means Consta so she just says fine. She and my father have gone off to sleep. She says I have made an important decision. Although she was considering between her desire for Matias and him and he has been really wonderful to her she has no more doubts and chosen to stay with Matias. He acts like he doesn’t understand or is just thinking really slowly. In a parallel scene, Matias is talking to spare girl. He tells her that he is going off to a conference to the Sea of Cortez. She acts like she might like to go too but he inserts that he is going with Adriana. Spare girl seems to understand better than Chema but less than Tata’s did last week. She still says futilely, call me when you get back. Oh sure he says as he rings off. Matias dreamily can’t wait to begin his life together with Adriana. Isn’t it nice to see Mr. CP so cheerful tonight.

Chema says he doesn’t want to be an impediment to her (impedador) and she says no, it is really because Matias entered her heart long before she met him. He has a brief remembrance of things with Consta for whom he became an impediment and wishes her well with Matias, whatever. As he goes toward the door, he falls to the floor.

Renata is already worrying as she and Jero are cuddling on his couch. She is worrying about how she is going to say to their children that their grandmother killed their uncle, passing the bad seed of her pathological mother on to their children if they have them. He is able to kiss and kid her into some laughing. She persists with how important it is to worry about these possible children but he kisses her into laughter. He observes that she turned out good even though she has an evil (malvada) sister and they will love their children, raising them with love and affection so they won’t be evil. He kisses the rest of her worries away for now.

Chema comes to and doesn’t understand what happened and doesn’t remember when he came or what he did here. She tells him he called and came to talk to her about her decision. He looks confused then, suddenly says, it is really late. I better go. Adriana says to herself she doesn’t know what is going on with Chema. (But, alas, we know he has a terminal case of inconvenience.)

Amidst many more kisses and as she says, over and above her appreciation of this marvelous, enchanting and divine evening she must tell Jero that she had already decided to terminate with Augustin. She will go to tell him in person since it doesn’t seem loyal to be with him when she is completely in love forever with Jeronimo. He is really pleased and tells her that he too has prepared for this moment. Yesterday he already terminated his relationship with Marina. I love how she can be in a mood to tease, she asks, were you that sure that I was going to return to you? No, but I was assure that the love I have for you would persist. Likewise, it did not seem loyal to me to be with her (note this for later) but I had to tell her I don’t have her in my thoughts or in my heart I only have you. They are so amorous the cinema photographer gives us doubles and even the passionate tryptichs of the kissing and hugging scene. Now just keep quiet if you don’t think this had enough heat. I am thrilled and had to stop typing to just watch and thankfully had a minute or two with no dialog to catch up…

Gonzo asks, how is Roberta, as though Regina had just tucked in a toddler. Regina is so happy about my family excuse me OUR family. Gonzo says it takes a while to get used to speaking in plural but soon he predicts she will automatically be speaking of our great big happy family, oh yeah. Regina is grateful to God, the Virgin of Guadalupe and all for the return of her daughter. (She falls to mention that big black bag of cash that also brought her to this point.) She feels so lucky to have her daughter back after so long a time, almost 24 years. Now really she feels she has two daughters. She hopes that one day Renata will also regard her as a mother. (Sooner than that viper in your guest room, girlie). Actually Gonzo says he is sure Renata will come around very soon.

Zeke gets to hear the real reason for Laz ‘s actions toward Kari, He complains that Lazaro must trust him, after all he confided in Laz and brought Arely after the murder order that Augie had decreed and signed for. So he needs to spill! Lazaro tells him he must take it to the grave after he learns the story.

Alfonsina is having pains in the belly and Kari is having pains of the heart. She says she will go far away and alone. Alfonsina begs her to stay near. They talk of the postponement of Carlos and Matilde’s wedding too because the padre has the flu. Let’s hope Alfonsina’s pains aren’t related to this influenza but the music suggest something is so wrong with this pregnancy other than the doubts and distrust engendered by her fling among the vines with Dr. TooAlive.

Zeke and Laz talk that if Augustin could order Arely’s death he can believe that he ordered Nesme’s death and likewise could off Zeke just as easily. They discuss that Jero was discreet and didn’t’ tell Laz any more than he had to in order to protect other people. Zeke asks when Jeronimo will return and when Lazaro says he has no idea, Zeke says, just tell me as soon as he comes back. I really need his help.

Roberta shows up at breakfast on the lawn, in her usual “I don’t do mornings” slump. Regina asks if she is missing her house and her own bed. Roberta says she only misses her own pillows. Regina wants to go get them for her right away. A girl could get used to this solicitous treatment. However, Roberta wants terribly to break into Renata’s good time so tells Regina that she needs to see Renata as only she can get things she wants. Gonzo offers to see where she is so calls her on his cell. Now in Jeronimo’s bed very happy in the morning Renata’s cell phone rings but Jero won’t let Renata answer it.

We see Marina Tata counting on a calendar, looking worried as she counts on her fingers, then reaching for a white package in the desk drawer so the next interruptus will be:

….as the loving couple laugh and dissolve under the covers.

Marina comes out of the bathroom with the pregnancy test in hand and tells the nurse that she is pregnant just as Augie Doggie comes to the open door and hears the joyful news! Don’t these people ever close private consulting room doors or lock anything? I guess that would be too simple, so where is my beanie?

And there ends our one episode that is almost entirely happy, barring the sad turning of Chema from glorious galán into inconvenient and fatally ill little problem. But, never fear, tomorrow while a jubilant Renata tells papa Gonzo how elated she is with the return of her true love and the light in her life, Jeronimo. Roberta is making sure she can spoil it, saying to herself, if she can’t be happy with Rafael, Renata certainly can’t find happiness with Jeronimo. Marina’s pregnancy by Jeronimo as she assures the nurse, is instantly ready to be broadcast by a beaming Augustin who can’t believe the luck. I guess he thought the best he would get would be a flu shot.

La Fuerza del Destino #46 Mon 10/10/11 You Must Be This Tall to Ride...

Good evening all! I am subbing for Vivi tonight. My it's a full episode! I may have missed a few things (especially business stuff.) Feel free to correct, add or clarify anything.

El refrito
Antolín makes and anonymous call to Lucrazy. He says he’s the one who took and sent the picture that proves Merry Piece is the one that killed that poor anciana. Lucrazy claims it was an accident (that is if by “accident” she means “purposely got into a car drunk, hit a woman and then purposely walked away”. Yeah. Accident my assident.) Anto wants 5 million pesos (approx. $372,000) to keep his mouth shut. Antolín is going to give her a week to get the cash together.

Lo Nuevo
Lucrazy asks him where he thinks she’s going to come up with that amount of money. He thinks that’s her problem and hangs up on her. She hyperventilates and we cut to the next scene in San Carlos, Sonora.
Lucía reports to Iván that the place is beautiful and that Alex is really happy….which pleases Iván. He asks Lucía if she’s talked about him to Alex. Lucía says no, the kid has been with Bruno the whole time (are the writers trying to insinuate that Bruno is the better therapist? ‘Cause there have been several comments about how Bruno is going to be the key to Alex and Iván’s reconciliation.) Anyhoo, Iván asks Lucía if it would be imprudent if he came to see them. Lucía doesn’t know. Iván wants to come see them. Lucía reminds him his dad said no.  Iván says if the kid is happy and accepts Tony and Benito, then Alex shouldn’t still be afraid of him. Iván sees no reason why he can’t come visit and get to know the child. He wants Alex to realize that he’s not the villain he was “painted” to be. Lucía asks Iván to let her talk to him (Alex) and she’ll get back to Iván. They say good-bye. They almost sound like “no, you hang up first”. Dear Iván and Lucía—more “hubba hubba” and less saccharine, please.

An aside: I’m a little concerned about the look on Lucía’s face when she hangs up. Is she thinking about Camilo’s words? The ones where he said if Alex never accepts Iván it will come between them. You have your own ranch now, Camilo…why do you have to sow seeds of doubt in Lucía’s mind?

Oh.em.gee. Carmen is whining to her mother about her “mala suerte” (bad luck) Is she for real??? Arcelia tells her "you make your own luck and you’re reaping what you’ve sown."  Carmen is delusional because she claims she’s done no harm to anyone. She wants to know why she doesn’t have a good job, a decent husband and a better life. Mamá reminds her she didn’t study and instead got involved with that “descgraciado” (pig, wretch etc.) but she shuts up because Camilo walks in….and he is NOT happy! He demands to know who Carmen blabbed to about Iván’s son. Carmen tries to act like she didn’t tell anyone. Camilo says she’s the only one who could have blabbed ( “pudo abrir la bocota” opened your big mouth.) Camilo fills her in on the Mondgragon blackmail scheme (“y ahora están chatajeando a los Curiel")  Camilo says the only people who know about Ivan and Alex are the Curiels and them… and he knows he didn’t tell and that pretty much leaves Carmen as the blabbermouth. Carmen goes off and says she doesn’t know how the Meandragons could have found out (“han averiguado”) but it wasn’t her and she’s tired of everything being her fault…aaaand I pretty much didn’t catch anything after that. Wow. For someone who is guilty of the accusation, she sure is adamant in denying it. Beech. And I don’t mean the deciduous tree. Carmen leaves in a huff and Camilo turns to his mom and says he’s going to ask her something and he wants her to tell the truth: “Is Saúl Mondragon the father of Lichita?” Mamá is oh-snap-impactada and wonders where he came up with that idea. She says she doesn’t know who the father of Lichita is and that Carmen never told her. She changes the subject and offers him some guacamole.

Lulu runs to Merry Piece’s boudoir screaming about the 5 millones de pesos that the “infeliz” who sent the photo wants. Merry Piece says he’s a lunatic. Lulu says Merry Piece is the lunatic since she’s the one that left the club (antro) drunk and killed a woman.  Merry Piece says the woman jumped out in front of her and Lulu claims that if Merry Piece hadn’t been drinking she would have braked  in time. Merry Piece claims she tried, but couldn’t (stop in time that is.) Merry Piece asks if Lulu has talked to Abuela. Lulu says she knows about the photo but not the money demand (since that just happened.) Lulu isn’t going to call her at this hour since surely she is with Sr. Anthony. Merry Piece says they should use his money to pay the blackmail. Lulu tells her that he is not Santa Claus and the  money is for the ranch, not to save an alcoholic from jail. Merry Piece freaks. She doesn’t want to go to jail. Lulu doesn’t know what they are going to do.

At the beach getaway Lucia is suggesting they invite Ivan to come to visit. Sr. Anthony doesn’t think it’s prudent. Lucia says why not? Alex is happy. Sr. Tony says that’s exactly why Ivan shouldn’t come.  Lucia says she could talk to Alex and Ivan wants to come. Tony asks for Carlota’s opinion. Her opinion is that she’s tired what with the traveling and the sun. Lucia asks if she feels bad. Carly says no, but she wants to go to bed. Tony asks if she wants to go to the doctor. Carly says no and reitres.

Alex is on the phone with  Gerry telling him not to worry. He tells Gerry he’s having a great time (me está pasando padrísimo.) They say good bye and we cut to Gerry’s house. Gerry reports to Carolooney that Alex is happy. Of course, she says, with the money Ivan is spending (she uses the word “desplagando”: to spread) any child would be happy. She imagines he must be in a dream house with servants, a pool,  candy, the ocean. Gerry changes the subject and wants to know A. if she is still going to Mexico City tomorrow and B. if she’s in love with Antolín. She says yes. She asks that Gerry not tell her that Antolín is no good for her. She knows he’s a delinquent, but she loves him. He’s offered to help get her sight back… something Gerry never did. Gerry reminds her that she told him the doctors said there was not possibility of getting her sight back. She argues that medicine has made many advances, but she wasn’t trying to complain (hhmph. sure she wasn’t.) On the other hand, Alex is going to leave them soon and for him it might be too much of a sacrifice to care for a blind woman. Gerry tells her not to say such things. He’ll always be grateful for all she did for his son. Grandson she reminds him.  Alex has his true father she says. She doesn’t want to be a nuisance. (I didn’t catch the expression.)  She says goodnight and leaves.

Lucia is tucking Abue into bed. Carly is assuring her that the police have not come looking for Merry Piece and so far no problems. They blab a bit about Iván. Carly is ok with him coming. She ???? says stuff I don't catch. She tells Lucia to have enough character to fix her own problems.  Lucia tells Abuea to rest and leaves. Carly calls Lulu. Lulu fills her in about the latest blackmail. Lulu thinks Carly should ask Tony for the money and Carly says no way. The solution is to sell the house and live at Sucker’s Ranch. Lulu doesn’t want to do that because it would mean admitting they were bankrupt (estamos en la quiebra). Carly doesn’t want to hear that. They would still have the ranch  and could live with that. Lulu is worried what people would think. Carly asks what she would prefer, them living like country folk or folks knowing her daughter in jail? Lulu tells Carly the dude wants the money in a week and they can’t sell the house in that time (en ese plazo.) Carly admits Lulu is right. She tells Lulu to use the loan (?) but that the house should be put up for sale pronto. Lulu tries to get her to talk to Tony, but Carly says no. She also tells Lulu that she doesn’t want Lucia to know anything about the pictures or the blackmail. When Lulu asks why, Carly tells her because she’s happy and she doesn’t want anything to sour/spoil (amargue) her vacation.

Antolín and Camilo are talking about the upcoming trip to the D.F. Camilo asks about Antolín’s interest in the girl. He says she’s his friend. Camilo scoffs a bit. Antolín says she’s the only one that see’s he’s good deep down. Camilo says “yeah…really deep down (muy en el fondo.)” There’s a rehash of “who told the Meandragons about Ivan and Merry Piece having a child” discussion and they both hit upon the “Saul as baby daddy" scenario. Threats of beatings and other nefarious deeds are discussed. Antolín wants Saúl to take responsibility and give Lechita a name... and he knows how to make him do it.

Gerry is wishing Carolooney a good trip and hopes she gets good news. He’s a little worried about the length of the trip. Antolín says they’ll be spending the night in Guanajuato.  Gerry tries to give him a little money, but Antolín won’t accept it. Gerardo walks them out and watches as Antolín walks Caro to the car. Gerry goes back in to talk to the maid/assistant. She’s sad they are going to be alone. She wants to know if Gerry thinks Caro will see again. He says if God wants it.

Merry Piece and Lulu have arrived at Camilo’s ranch. Merry Piece waves excitedly. Lulu tells her to chill. Camilo excuses the engineer who is excitedly discussing the agua. Merry Piece starts to sweet talk Camilo and says his ranch is really pretty. Lulu is all “Scram kid. I need to talk to Camilo.” Merry Piece asks if she can stay and listen. Lulu brusquely replies “no.” Merry Piece pouts and flounces away. Lulu tells him she’s afraid to leave Merry Piece alone in the house. She asks if he found a well (pozo.) Camilo tells her yes and it’s a good one. They discuss water rights. I’m pretty sure she tells him to lead the water to JJ’s ranch, but he says it would be better for her to lead her water to JJ and he could give her his water since her ranch is closer to the Meandragon ranch (that’s clear as mud, right?) She asks if he’ll regret that. He says he’s a man of is word. He talks farmy stuff I don’t catch. Lulu tells him to go ahead and do it, but he doesn’t have the money. Lulu says she doesn’t either.

Camilo goes over figures with Iván…who can’t figure out why Lulu doesn’t have the money to do the farmy stuff.  They’re a little suspicious.

Over at the beach, Tony knows something is up and that Carly is worried. He wants her to talk to him. She doesn’t want to weigh him down (agobiar) with her personal bidnez. He says that’s what friends are for. He wants to know why Maripaz is back home. Carly says that’s the problem. Lulu heard bad stuff about MP and made her come home and Maripaz has debts, too. Debts? Tony asks. Sure, Carly says in jewelry and other stores (not to mention that celestial debt for killing someone.)  Marizpaz doesn’t want to be there and is rude and says horrible things to Lucia. In short, Maripaz is making their lives a living hell. Tony says she’s 30. Leave her alone and let her do what she wants. Carly wants that, but Lulu is so worried about appearances. And even though her granddaughter is bad, Carly still worries about what could happen.  Tony scoffs and the family ties (lazos familiares) and says it’s not fair that one person is ruining the lives of everyone around them.  Carly agrees, but they can’t abandon her. Tony thinks Carly hasn’t told him everything. Carly says that’s all she can tell him for now.

Alex wants to swim but Lucia tells him neither Benito nor she knows how to swim in the ocean. (Really? Did I hear that right?) Alex says Antolín knew how. They talk a bit about Anto and Caro’s trip. Lucia says she knows someone who knows how to swim really well and could help if he came. Alex asks who , but is not pleased when he hears it’s Iván.  He says Iván wants to kidnap him. Lucía says that is not the case. Alex says he aunt told him that Iván lost his son and that he thinks Alex is the lost son. Lucia says it’s true he lost a son, but that he’s not going to kidnap Alex. Iván loves kids. He’s the one that planned this whole trip and all the fun stuffs. She says it is a gift for him, because Ivan loves him.

Back in Alamos, Lulu and Maripaz are returning home and Lulu is telling Maripaz to stop flirting with Camilo. Maripaz wants to know why not—dude is handsome, educated, has land. She digs, why not mom? Are YOU interested him? THWACK!!! Lulu gets her with a right hook and tells her not to be disrespectful. Maripaz takes it like a …er..woman and needles her some more.  I didn’t catch the exact words…anyone want to fill in the blanks? I’m dying to know what she said…I think she said despite the menopause, her mamá still gets “urges.”

Lucia continues to try to win Alex to Ivan’s side. She says Iván is a good guy…didn’t he risk his life to protect Bruno from the snake?  Ivan is sad he wants be with them, but since Alex was afraid, he didn’t come. Alex asks if he comes is he going to kidnap me? Lucia can’t believe he’s still talking like that. Ivan just wants to be his friend and it hurts him that Alex has rejected him. She says Ivan wants to come. …but they change scene before we get Alex’s answer. GAH!

JJ is berating Saúl about the Cuthberto fiasco and losing his money. Lulu calls and says she’ll give him the water, but he has to keep the Ivan and Maripaz gossip to himself. JJ says of course, he’s a man of honor. *Snort* Lulu reads my mind and tells him he was never such a thing so he might as well can it. He's despotic and other stuff, but she knows no one would say that to his face ‘cause they are afraid. He says fear is part of power. What an ass.

Iván is eating with Camilo and Arecelia (let’s see if we get some product placement.) Arcelia mentions that Carmen and Lichita are out so they can talk “con confianza” (strictly entre nous.) She asks what he’s going to do about his son. Iván doesn’t know. He’s really worried the Meandragons are going to tell Maripaz. Camilo thinks that JJ will be quiet because now he’s getting water from the Curiels. Saúl, however is a different story. Saúl is “ladino” (sly; cunning) and Camilo still thinks he’s the one that did the nasty with Carmen and that he is Lichita’s dad. Arcelia asks how he could think such a thing. Camilo says he does think such a thing and so does Antolín. Arcelia asks why he talked to Antolín about such a thing. Antolín is capable of any sort of “barbaridad” (atrocity.) Camilo says blabbity blah (no clue, sorry) to which Iván responds “El valiente vive hasta que el cobarde quiere.”  (The brave man lives as long as the coward allows…perhaps others can shed some light on this aphorism…’cause even in context I didn’t get it.) Arcelia says they are “inventando tonterías” (making up stuff.)  Camilo says we’ll see if we’re “inventando tonterías”. Iván moves his lips but we don’t know what he says. Probably something like “chill out bro”.

At the beach house Alex comes to Lucía’s room to call Gerry. He wants to ask him something…would it be ok if they invited Iván? Gerry thinks it’s a fine idea. Iván is the one that rented the house and he loves Alex a lot. Alex says “really?, he’s not going to kidnap me?” Gerry assures him that’s just silliness.  Alex says goodbye and tells Lucía to call Iván. Lucia tells Alex to do it and he worries that Iván will say no. Lucía thinks he won’t say no and dials the number. The phone rings at Casa Galván (they are still discussing the Saúl/Lichita/Antolín/JJ square…but I don’t catch details.) Iván excuses himself to answer. He answers “sí mi amor” and Alex says “Iván?” (I’m glad Iván didn’t answer with something like “I wanna sex you up” that would have been awkward.) Iván asks if something has happened and Alex explains that he’s stuck at the ocean with a bunch of dweebs that don’t know how to swim so he was wondering if Iván could come and teach him. Iván is all verklempt and tells “hijo” he will come tomorrow. Alex asks if he wants to talk to Lucía, but Iván says no, “just tell her I'll call later”. They say good-bye and hang up. Iván sheds the single glycerin tear of happiness.

Iván returns to the dining room table and tells Camilo and Arcelia the good news. Applause, man-hugs and praise for Lucía . Arcelia thinks she’s a real treasure and Iván is so lucky to have her “Don’t you agree Camilo?” Threatening music and dumb-face from Camilo.

Lucía makes sure Tony is ok with Iván coming. Tony is fine with it since it’s ok with Alex. Tony asks Lucía if she helped convince the little guy. She says yeah, we just talked about stuff. She can’t believe the ideas Caro planted in his head. They blabber a bit about Caro and her trip to the DF to get her sight back. Tony changes the subject to Carly and her being worried about Maripaz. Tony again suggests they leave Maripaz to her own devices, but Lucía says Carly still worries about Maripaz. Alex interrupts from the pool and we get a discussion about dogs, swimming and pools. Carly comes to the patio and Tony asks how her nap was. She responds “me cayó de perlas”…whatever that means....it hit the spot? Tony asks if she would like anything and they both decide to have a margarita. Benito is sent to water the dog and fetch the potent potables. Carly tells Tony he shouldn’t be drinking.  Tony says it’s to celebrate. Carly asks what they are celebrating and Tony tells her about Iván’s eminent arrival.  Meanwhile, Lucía and Ivan are on the phone being lovey dovey…and Lucía has a plan for Alex and Iván to be together so that Alex is not uncomfortable. Iván is all ears.

Camilo helps mamá in the kitchen and ruh-roh, she’s on to him. She rightly guesses that he has the hots for Lucía. She asks him if he’s in love with her. He says yes and gets a smack upside the head for his honesty. Arcelia tells him he’s got to get her out of his head (smack) and she’s his best friend’s girl (smack) and Lucía loves (smack) Iván and Iván (smack) loves her (smack.) Camilo says he knows that . Arcelia smacks him again for good measure and tells Camilo if Iván suspects anything, Camilo will lose everything. ..not just the job and truck, but Iván’s  friendship. Arcelia says something about the nice girl Antolín is seeing and Camilo tells her about the lies that nice girl planted in Alex’s head.

In the DF, Antolín and Caro head for the doctor’s office.

At the beach, breakfast is served. Today there will be a trip to the amusement park while they wait for Iván to arrive and no Alex, Bruno cannot come. Dogs aren’t allowed at amusement parks. FF>>

Back at the doctor’s office, Antolín is nervously waiting. The doctor comes to get Antolín and takes him back to Carolina in the examination room. She will not be able to get her sight back in both eyes. Carolina says she knew they shouldn’t have come. The doctor says  she can regain the sight in her right eye. Medical talk. Apparently the accident really did a number on the left optic nerve and that’s a lost cause, but the right one just has a corneal lesión and can be repaired. Carolina looks hopeful.

Benito talks to Bruno.  Iván arrives (he gets the palatial bedroom.) Iván is going to take a bath. Do we get to watch? FF>>

Hmmm. Carolina, Doctor and Antolín are discussing getting her on the corneal transplant list. Someone’s gonna die and Caro will get the cornea. How much you wanna bet? Who will it be? They discuss how long the wait can be for a donor. Don’t you just know Antolín is thinking of killing someone? The doctor says he’ll let them know as soon as a donation is available and they will have to come immediately.  Antolín asks how much it will cost. As Caro and Antolín leave, he tells her to leave the money problem up to him. He’ll take care of it. She doesn’t want him to rob or do anything bad to get the money. Antolín says he’s just going to do a favor for someone. She asks when he will be back. I think he says tomorrow. She doesn’t want him getting into trouble because of her. A little blabbity blah I don’t catch. Carolina straight up asks if he’s going to kill anyone and he says if he kills someone it’s because they deserve it.

Amusement park and Alex wants to ride everything. Tony and Carly are going to go sit down. Tony hands the tickets over to Lucía. Lucía suggests they start with the bumper cars. Over on the old folk’s bench, Tony thinks Carlota hasn’t seemed very happy. She says of course she’s happy. Iván and Lucía are in love, Alex is happy. She says Alex could accept his father, what more can she ask for? Well, actually... she would ask the three kings if her daughter could have a better character and that Maripaz… Tony suggests that Maripaz marry again. Carlota says and make some other poor sap miserable? Heck no. They talk about Maripaz perhaps going to a convent and decide that’s a hell no. Tony moves on to a better subject: When they get back to Alamos, how ‘bout  he throws a big house warming cum engagement announcement party? Viewerville says heck yeah! That’s the perfect venue for a big “mierda hitting the fan”  scene!!!! Carlota for some crazy reason thinks they need to ask Lulu’s opinion. Tony wonders since when do they need to ask Lulu’s opinion? Iván and Lucía are old enough to make their own decisions. Carlota claims they should talk to Lulu just out of consideration. Tony thinks she’s hiding something. She says she can’t tell him everything.

Iván buys bunches of tickets and Lucía and Alex are at the bumper cars. As Alex and Lucía leave their car Alex asks what’s next. Lucía suggest “El Ciclón” (as someone who hates rides, I have to say that doesn’t sound good.)  Iván calls. Lucía tells him he arrived just in time. They arrange to meet at the Ciclón…where they don’t let children ride alone.

At the Ciclón, Alex wants to ride and he has tickets, but he can't get on alone. Lucía won’t ‘cause she’ll get “mareos” (queasy/nauseous) and Tony can’t cause he’s sick. But lo! Here arriveth Iván to save the day!!! Alex doesn’t look fully convinced…but the power of the Ciclón compels him to accept Iván. They spin around while the love theme plays. Day at the amusement park montage. David Zepeda can juggle and so can Alex! Cotton candy should not be that pink. *burp*

Alex says he had a great day and is glad Iván came. He asks if tomorrow he will teach him how to swim. And there will be a trip to the aquarium, too.

Lucía and Iván take a walk to the water and the phallic cactus. Smoochies.

Later that evening Iván has prepared a surprise. He counts to three and Lucía opens her eyes. There better be more than a line of tiki torches. Right now I am not impressed (and I’m having Triunfo flashbacks.) Tent on the beach and shadow-stripping. And fireworks? Are those for real or metaphoric? Excuse me while I laugh my ass off.

Avances for miércoles (No show Tuesday)

  • Ivan and Lucia are getting married?
  • Is Alex unconscious?
  • Saúl convinces Maripaz to force Iván to marry HER

Una Familia Con Suerte #5 Mon 10/10/11 What really goes down at the sandwich shop/internet cafe [by guest contributor cerberez]

Hi! My mom wasn't quite feeling up to the task tonight. Although she could probably recap novelas in her sleep by now, I volunteered to hop into the ring for a spell. In a great display of multi-tasking I managed to get it done, make oatmeal-raisin-walnut cookies, and eat more than anyone should, all in an hour and ten minutes!

Which brings us to tonight's gripping episode of Una familia con suerte.

The curtain rises on the storefront of an interesting business model (at least, that's the first thing I saw. I came upstairs after putting the cookies in the oven, and my mom said I didn't miss anything): Lupita and Tomás' sister are ostensibly working the counter at the internet cafe and selling sandwiches to passers-by, but really engaged in chatting with some mystery fellow with the screen name "king of cups." The show's crew must have done their research, because the girls appear to be using the exact same version of Aol Instant Messenger that I used in the late 90s to share emoticons and crude jokes with my friends.
Tomás' sister is really excited about meeting this random individual (there's a lesson about trusting internet strangers somewhere in here) and decides to meet up with him that very night. She's bringing Lupita, whether the other girl likes it or not.

Meanwhile, Vins is at home industriously counting his presidential eggs before they hatch. Alone in his mansion (doesn't he have a job?), he practices his presidential mannerisms. His gay friend wanders in (doesn't *he* have a job?) and they chitchat. Pina prances in and acts jealous (doesn't she have a national radio show to run?) of the attention her husband is getting from this new fellow. Nothing important happens here.

Now we cut to Pancho, playing a mexican sport that looks like squash with a big glove instead of a racket. He looks remarkably moody and contemplative for a dude bouncing a ball against a wall. Fortunately, Chacho is there (with his lollipop) to help sort out his bro's feelings. Pancho: "how could this happen to me; I like the life I have; I must be true to who I really am inside; integrity; etc." Chacho: "This could really change your life [duh]; money isn't all bad; I'll always be your friend, no matter what." This goes back and forth for a bit, with Pancho emotionally squinting, but eventually Chacho cheers him up. In a particularly bro-mantic touch, the scene goes out on two dudes bouncing a ball against a wall *together*.

Back to Pancho's house (la casa popular): Rebeca (she of the astounding boobs and protruding butt) shows up in some astoundingly high stilettos to "sweeten the deal" and get Pancho on board with the whole president thinging. Her big reveal (and I thought her blouse was the "big reveal"--tee hee hee)is that she came on Fer's behalf. It's not really such big news, but it merits a pro forma closeup on Pancho's shocked face. It turns out he doesn't take that much convincing, and she whips out a contract in a huge leather notebook, but it doesn't get signed because *chela is now watching jealously and there has to be something for her to overhear and misinterpret*. To that end Rebeca repeatedly tells Pancho to look into her eyes as she reassures him that they'll be together EVERY DAY now and she'll be with him EVERY STEP. Chacho's friend is impressed by Rebeca's legs, but Chela is totally bugging out. She goes to vent to Candi who is once again practicing a suggestive dance, in preparation for the big festival which will soon take place.

Back to Lupita and Tomás' sister... the girls are sneaking out, and Lupita is having second thoughts. Tomás sister steamrolls her. Everybody feels a little guilty when Tomás shows up and confronts them. I lose what little interest I had in this subplot.

Similarly to Tomás' unwanted arrival, Monica shows up just as her boyfriend Freddy is preparing to sneak out to see these girls. He has just been telling his buddy Alex that having two chicks is like riding a race car - the danger and adrenaline are so exciting. You know the rest. With Monica's arrival, Freddy acts cool, and winds up going all smoochy. Alex is grumpy about being stuck in the room with two "empalogosos" (basically, disgustingly sweet).

Pina saunters into Fer's office and continues to be obnoxious. She is sorry about Fer's "condition."

Pancho thinks Chela is mad at him because she thinks Rebeca is making him forget Laurita. Actually she's just jealous. Anyway, she doesn't want him to sign up as president.

Fer visits Vins, who is practically wriggling out of his shiny suit in excitement. He removes all the square pillows from the couch, because apparently cancer patients can't handle pillows. Fers lets them know that she has an announcement. She is going to a special clinic in Europe and before she can finish getting the word "presidency" out of her mouth, Pina is pointing at Vins and Vins is engaged in a grin so contorted that it curls the edges of his mustache. She lets them wallow in their glee, telling them she'll make the big announcement on Pina's radio show.

Hop back to la casa popular for another heavy-handed juxtaposition of mansion-vs-normal-life, and the Pancho crew is busily hanging crepe paper for the festival, which they're assuming will solve all their money problems. crepe-paper away, my friends! Nothing new on the Chela-and-Pancho front, though.

The Nacos are working on their car, and their hair is greasier than the engine. They're talking about girls. Blah.

In another quick-and-easy juxtaposition, we switch to Alex and Freddy as they talk about girls.

Now we're in the rich kids' classroom (don't they have something to learn?) They're all chatting, and some random dude announces that he just got a rare Italian car, one of only two in the country. Freddy goes to check it out, and Alex scoops up his blackberry for some hidden-identity hi-jinks. Fortunately Lupita and Tomás' sister are still busily not selling sandwiches or internet access at the internet cafe/sandwich shop and ready to chat. Since both the girls and Freddy got held up the night of their meeting. Alex pretends to be Freddy and apologizes. He gets himself invited to *gasp* the festival!

We conclude the episode at the studio of "Pina Opina." Pina gives herself a glowing introduction and then introduces Fer as a genius of business. She proceeds to, rather than talk about business, tell the entire country of México that Fer is dying of cancer. She then says "Fernanda, what the whole country would like to know is, how much time do you have left." Oooh, killer. Clearly, Pina is angling for a Pulitzer.

Next week (quoting the preview): "You are invited to a grand festival of music, dance, and betrayal."

Thanks for reading!
