Heridas de Amor--Wednesday, November 8
Renata is finishing up her very special talk with her in-laws. She goes in to wake up Juan, starts crying and shows him the ugliest doll in the world. Juan tells her that Fern is going away…she says she can’t because she has to take care of Flo…he says, she’s just going to wait until she stabilizes and then is going somewhere far away where no one knows her. The in-laws are commiserating about the 3 girls emotional wounds from having such screwed up parents.
Al is telling Luciano about his concerns regarding Fab. Daira’s trying to get Lis all excited about their trip to Italy, but Lis is acting ever the sulky, spoiled little brat. Daira asks if she’ll tell who it is that hit her, Lis says no she won’t tell because she was treated badly because she acted badly. Then Daira starts in with the Public Service Announcement about how no woman deserves to be knocked around (I think the Mexican Dept. of Health and Social Services sponsored this segment). Lis goes on with her attitude of, when you love someone, you have to accept everything (I think the everything we’re talking about here is when they fart in bed and leave the toilet seat up, honey). Alejandro asks Lis how she is and she kicks the sulky, spoiled little brat act into high gear.
Miranda continues to ask Bertha for advice with the kidnapping issue. How fortunate for her, because now she can steer her right where she wants her. She tells her to call Cesar, but not to tell him what’s going on, just to ask him to come over. They have some more brandy (a lot more, based on how full those glasses were!).
Flo is complaining to Fern about Fab and worrying that it was her craving for mangos with chile (yum!) that is causing his absence. Daira & Lis show up to say goodbye, Lis complains about her brother. Wah. Fern notices Lisania’s shiner and she and Flo give her the same advice she’s been hearing…well, from everyone. She continues on with her justification that she deserved it.
Bertha’s on the phone with el Guapo making sure the tracks are covered. The two sadists are discussing Guapo’s plan with Fab—Bertha gives him the green light as far as pain is concerned. Bertha continues on with her instructions…to tell the pretty boy exactly what she told el Guapo to tell him.
Fern examines Lis. She tells Lis not to allow herself to be hit like that. Lis reiterates that she likes it. Fern continues with the second part of the Public Service Announcment about healthy relationships. Lis is like, whatever. Then, when Fern says, if you can’t feel the pain, you could die without even realizing it…Lis thinks this would be a really beautiful way to go. Someone should just shake some sense into this girl…oh wait, that might not work.
Luciano’s looking at the investments and accounts, and can’t believe what’s going on. Alejandro asks what he’s talking about, but doesn’t want any more surprises….sorry Al, not very likely. Luckily, it’s the good kind of surprise…the capital is frozen and not even Bertha can screw around with it. High fives all around.
Back at Fab’s dungeon…el Guapo shows up with two of the healthiest looking rats I’ve ever seen. He wakes up Fab with a bucket of water and starts tormenting him psychologically about his very hungry rats.
Cesar arrives and Miranda tells him that Fab’s been kidnapped. The phone rings and Miranda hears Fab’s cries of pain. She faints, Cesar catches her and Alejandro sees it, but Bertha steers him away from it. Bertha fills him in on her & Miranda’s new found friendship. She asks him, Who am I? Without hesitation he answers, you are a cold, calculating woman, who enjoys the suffering of others. You are short of saying you’re an angel, but we all know what you did. When he asks her how Cesar & Miranda ended up together, she gives him the very long, round-about, complicated version of…Fabricio was kidnapped.
Fab is freaking out about the rabbit sized rat that el Guapo is threatening him with. Then Guapo takes a sample of Fab’s sweat/blood, asking “do you know what fear smells like?”
Francisco, driving his taxi, picks up some chick despite not wanting to. What a nice guy…clearly, he and Leonardo (from Mundo de Fieras) share a car and a kind-hearted, honest disposition (this message brought to you from the United Federation of Mexican Taxi Drivers).
Cesar & Al call each other imbeciles…always a good way to work together to solve difficult situations…as they work out what to do about Fab. They argue about telling Flo or not. Miranda decides to go see Flo…Cesar buts his snarky nose in and offers to drive her there. Alejandro, in his Bee-Gees outfit, tells Cesar to remember that Miranda is his wife, like it or not. Bertha advises him to go after Miranda.
Luciano & Lisania are discussing her abuse issues. She says it’s good to go to Italy…a little break. He asks her to tell him who it is, she says no, besides it doesn’t matter since it’s her fault, not his (ugh.) When her mom asks how she is, she starts crying about not wanting to go to Italy, even though she know she has to do it. She almost lets the name slip. Daira gives her a medallion that she received from Alfredo when Lis was born. Lis finally apologizes to her mom.
Fern tells Cesar to call the authorities. Cesar doesn’t want to. He hasn’t told Rebecca about it either. Cesar says they’ll probably have to sell the house, and that Rebecca will probably agree that her son is worth it.
In Flo’s room, Miranda & Al are lying to her about Fab’s whereabouts. They tell her he’s with Rebecca, since she’s had a little nervous attack. She buys it, hook, line & sinker, but says to tell him to visit her tomorrow…she’s more important than Rebecca (she must be feeling better…the old, self-centered Flo’s coming out again). Again, Dr. Mom, resorts to prescription meds to shut her up (or down…). Fern asks to speak with Miranda, who agrees to a little sit down. Alejandro tells Juan not to tell Flo about Fab.
Carola is whining about Juan to…his brother. Raul doesn’t give too much sympathy, telling her it’s all her own fault, not Renata’s. Raul tries to distract her with the new computer (wow!). Renata shows up with a shrink-wrapped printer & some programs. Carola & Renata decide to have a little woman-to-woman chat about Juan.
Rebecca is sitting around feeling sorry for herself because Julio, the man she’d lied to for the past 20 some years, left her. Cesar shows up and breaks the news in the most suspense-building way possible…they have to sell the house, it’s for Fab’s own good, well, Fab was kidnapped. She says sell everything, the house, my jewels, the country house…and then lets it slip that the country house is actually in Fab & Flo’s name.
Miranda tells Alejandro & Fern about her special moment with Bertha. She’s confused. Alejandro tells her to wake up and smell the coffee. Fern says, well it is true that she was never violent toward the girls. Alejandro says, yeah, yeah, yeah but she set the fire at the farm and did lots of other really bad stuff. The happy couple start yelling at each other. Fern plays referee. Miranda (not liking the smell of this coffee) says maybe it was a mistake to talk about this, Alejandro says, yeah maybe you should tell Cesar. (Um….Miranda you really are being stupid here).
Looking forward to tomorrow, it seems that Rodents of Unusual Size will be the least of Fab's worries as el Guapo ratchets it up a notch...

Mundo de Fieras - Nov. 7, 2006
* Pau is in her room thinking about her dad confronting JC - her brother Rogelio enters and tells Pau his opinion of their father divorcing Jossie - Pau doesn't care to hear it and informs her brother that Jossie shot at their dad. He is shocked.
* Miriam and Jossie make plans to get everything from Gabriel.
* Tiberio is on the phone in his office, talking to "princesa" (Karen, I believe) about JC - they agree to meet at the boutique - he loves and adores her - Belen eavesdrops on the conversation at the doorway.
* Gabriel and JC are calmer and discuss JC's reasons for why he has been sending mixed messages to Pau (because of Karen telling them they are cousins and then his dad telling him the lie that they are siblings) - Gabriel explains his close friendship with Regina - JC says he loves Pau - Gabriel gives him some advice and asks JC what his plans are - JC wants to be with Pau no matter what - Gabriel says if he can convince Pau, he has Gabriel's blessings and support.
* Tiberio and Karen are together in Tib's car, giggling and talking.
* Belen arrives home, and sits down in the entrance hall's step and starts to cry. Dolores enters and sees Belen crying - Belen tries to leave but Dolores convinces her to stay and tell her what is wrong.
* Tiberio and Karen in the car - Tiberio wants to make out - Karen laughs, pushes him away and says no.
* Jossie stops Gabriel in the palace entrance hall/living room - they get into a confrontation argument about his wish to divorce her - she turns crazy and jealous and demands to know who the other woman in his life is that is taking him away from her - Miriam enters and breaks up the scuffle, and takes Jossie into the office with her.
* In the office, Miriam calms Jossie down by telling her how irrational she looks to Gabriel and how to change enough in order to win Gabriel back.
* Dolores is checking on Demian's vital signs (blood pressure, heart beat) - Demian flirts continuously with her - she repeats that she is only there to be close to her son - he doesn't believe it and thinks she is there to be with him, she still has feelings for him - she denies the statement and repeats that she is there to be close to her son as she puts away her equipment and leaves. He laughs to himself thinking he is right.
* Rogelio meets with Gabriel in his bedroom - Gabriel says it is true that Jossie shot at him - Rogelio feels sorry for Jossie, because Gabriel wants to divorce her - Gabriel is shocked by his son taking her side.
* Pau and Regina are meeting at a restaurant - Regina tells Pau about her love and friendship with Gabriel and gives Pau some advice about what to do about her own love for JC - Pau breaks down and reveals that she does love JC with all her heart.
* JC sits in the home library office and thinks about the advice and blessing Gabriel told him earlier at his office.
* Gabriel enters his bedroom, takes the phone from the bedside table and sits on the end of the bed about to make a phone call. Jossie pops up out of bed and surprises him - he tells her to leave, he isn't interested - she doesn't leave, instead she tries to kiss him and seduce him to make love with her. Gabriel had enough and stands up and orders her to leave his room - she leaves - in the hallway, she smiles and thinks her love confuses him and she is enchanted by it - alone in his room, Gabriel is frustrated and exasperated by her actions.
* At the taxi stand, Mayeya starts Karaoke singing to the song "Yo No Fui" on the radio and bothers Shorty reading the newspaper, Sylvester and others gather around and they get into a discussion about karaoke singing. Mayeya ends up daring Sylvester to sing opera - he does and she and Shorty start to howl like dogs. (NOTE: the song "Yo no fui" was a hit for Pedro Fernandez and is one of the favorite melodies still to this day. I believe Thalia actually sang a few lines of it in Maria la del Barrio in the 80s.)
* Leo is in his taxi, driving and talking to himself about MA. A lady with car trouble flags him down and he offers to help and drive her to where she needs to go - as he takes her clothes and stuff out of the trunk of her car, she says she is going to Televisa San Angel - he is excited and curious.
* Gabriel meets with Pedro, Di and Rogelio in Rogelio and Di's bedroom - Pedro and Di will miss Gabriel at the house, but somehow understand why he needs to leave - Rogelio is indifferent and will still see him at the office and leaves - Pedro and Di are sad and in tears saying goodbye. Gabriel leaves.
* In Luisito's bedroom, Jossie is in tears and holds her son, she explains to him what he means to her, why his parents are separating, that she will miss him so much and puts on the "motherhood guilt trip" so thick that Luisito cries the whole time - Gabriel is indifferent as he stands over them and watches.
* Padre Anselmo visits Candy at her home - he is concerned by someone he recognized at the plaza when Luisito was kidnapped, but he cannot place the name - Candy takes a few moments and says that she works as an associate to Miriam at the boutique (Ingrid!).
* Leo has a nice long conversation with the lady on the drive to Televisa San Angel. He is excited to hear about her work there, and tells her about all his favorite shows and characters (yet no mention of FC-novelas).
* Alone in her room, Jossie composes herself and wipes the fake tears from her eyes. She plans to continue with her mom's plan to win Gabriel back.
* Padre Anselmo says goodbye to Candy and leaves - Candy mutters something about "what a gossip" and then something about Padre A.
* Leo assists the lady from the car at Televisa San Angel - they argue over whether Leo can help her take her things inside.
* Luisito and Pau get comfortable in their new home - and try to stay positive.
* In the car, Federico and Jossie talk - she asks about Otilia which leads to his revealing something about his friend in New York.
* The lady talks with Juan Jose Origel (big name gossip talk show host and columnist) in the hallway studio getting ready for a production taping - later we see an excited and happy Leo driving back to the stand, thinking about how excited his mom will be with the autograph and hearing about his day.
* Di tells someone (Pedro?) that she is pregnant.
* Belen tries to talk to Tiberio about something but Tiberio is brusk and rude and tells her he is busy and doesn't have time, and to stop bothering him. She leaves dejected. Karen calls Tiberio on the phone - tells him that she has a surprise for him - he is excited and intrigued.
* Jossie meets with the psychiatrist in his office - he explains what their sessions will be like, what to expect, and Jossie asks her questions - she surprises him when she asks about if he can handle a "fiera" who will resort to doing anything it takes even murder.
* Later, Federico is in the car with Jossie - he asks how the session with the psychiatrist went - Jossie is excited, it went very well and thanks him for the suggestion and driving her there - he says "just like a real father" she agrees.
* Miriam and Ingried get into an argument as they restock the racks and shelves at the boutique - Miriam reveals she married Clemente only for money and position, not for love, and then throws out insults to Ingrid about her and her daughter.
* Clemente visits the psychiatric hospital, and speaks to MA in the hallway before entering Aurora's room - Aurora wakes and recognizes Clemente; she remembers him, tears flow, he asks for her forgiveness, she forgives him for abandoning her and their daughter, MA.
* Jossie enters the boutique office - Miriam notices her happy mood and smile on her face - Jossie explains what Federico did - Miriam is stunned as Jossie leaves.
* Pau is on the cell phone - as soon as she hangs up, JC comes over and tries to talk with her - he lets it slip about his meeting with Gabriel then tries to cover it up when Pau presses him on it - she wants to know what they discussed, he refuses, she gets upset and leaves.
* The psychiatrist listens back to his audio tape of his session with Jossie - he thinks she needs inpatient intensive treatment.
* (FLASHBACK) Jossie leaves the apartment, with Dider laying on the floor.
* Tiberio tries to stop Demian to talk in his office - Demian won't stop to talk - in the reception area, Demian and Gabriel meet, their discussion turns into a heated altercation and Demian draws out his gun and aims it at Gabriel's face. (AY CARAY!)

Heridas, Tuesday Nov. 7th
It was fun to see a repeat of Bertha gnashing her teeth, then petting Lucas, then falling into a tormented sleep. Cut to Nati, "Bertha...death and much disgrace" as the lightning cracks in her pool's reflection.
After that excitement we go to boring old Andrea and Padre Santiago. She says she always knew it..."it" being that El Magnate was not really Leonardo I suppose. They agree that she blocked the traumatized past from her mind. I guess this explains why she did not know her own husband's imposter. Now she is worried about Pamela, so to keep her mind off tonterias she will help with the annual church fiesta.
El Guapo sneaks up and surprises them. He tells Santiago that the word in the town is that Padre Santiago is coming for a visit and they want to know so that they can prepare a guajalote = turkey (I think) and receive him in the manner he deserves. Santiago says he's coming after the church fiesta. (It seems to me that El Guapo is always talking in riddles and double-entendres, but I don't understand well enough to get them. Am I imagining things or is this supposed to be his inscrutable style?)
At the hacienda little miss Fauntleroy (I'm sorry, but I hate Miranda's outfit) and Pamela ask Charo to see Tomasa's clothing. They want to know if Charo found anything important. Tomasa died months ago and they are asking now? Charo, who looks much younger than Miranda, keeps calling Miranda niña. Charo remembers that she found some papers about Tomasa's granddaughter but she gave them to Padre Santiago and he gave them to Fernanda. Suddenly the volume on the TV set gets very loud as if by magic. The news is about the fall of the drug cartel and the death of El Magnate. Pamela sobs that she must tell Fermin.
Cesar is in a bar pissed off as usual, smoking as usual, drinking as usual, and throwing his matchbook around in a snit. He's a real chick magnet. Luis Alberto shows up late with excuses. Cesar tells him to shut his snout, (look who's calling whom pig), Luis Alberto is obligated to arrive 15 minutes prior to his own arrival. I repeat, pig. He demands to know why LA didn't tell him that Gonzo went to London. Ummm...cuz he didn't know anything about it? Cesar says that's no excuse. He blames LA for everything. Luis Alberto asks what will they do if Gonzo suspects the parallel accounts? Cesar says he'll make Gonzalo disappear, then he gets an eager and menacing look on his face.
Bertha is lying on the bed snoring. No, it's Lucas who is snoring and he wakes her up. She feels much better and sees things more clearly after her little nap. She wants to go for a walk but Lucas won't budge. He snores some more and she telephones El Guapo.
Florencia is sleeping while Fern and Al watch protectively. El Guapo approaches the window to her room and beckons to Fernanda. Alejandro cannot see him. Fern goes out and recognizes him as being with Padre Santiago at the church. He leers at her and kisses her hand, holding it longer than she likes. He tells her his name is Egberto. She excuses herself and he leers some more.
Juan arrives home with flowers and kisses for Renata. I know he has only two expressions and he is a scary face-sucker when he kisses but he's still a hottie. They jump on the bed and yes! she's going to take off his shirt. Uh oh, a knock on the door. It's Carola and she tiptoes up to their door and sees them making out. Juan is shirtless (thank-you!) and Renata is about to join him. Carola is impactada and runs out. The lovers never even see her.
Nuria goes to the hospital for her appointment with Dr. Cohen. He's not there so Fernanda will see her. Nuria asks if she is Fernanda de Aragon, mother of Miranda San Llorente. If so then Fernanda is her aunt. Nuria faints after revealing this to Fernanda.
Bertha has gotten Lucas off his lazy butt but he's cranky, or a stand-in, because when they walk by Miranda he barks at her. Miranda tells Bertha to shut the dog up. Bertha says "Don't yell at me stupid! Nothing would give me more pleasure than to see him attack you!"
Fabricio, on his way to get Flor's treats, is talking to Al on his cell phone when he is struck on the head by thugs. It is Guapo and a couple of his bozos. These guys are so lame that when they grab the unconscious Faby to drag him to the truck one of them pulls off Fab's shoe and almost falls over backwards. Then he throws the shoe off to the side which will be future evidence of course. Then they scratch their heads and stand around trying to figure out how to get his limp body into the truck.
After the commercial break they are still sitting in the truck. In the midst of kidnapping a full-grown man they have nothing better to do than sit around looking at Fabricio's cell phone, giggling at it ringing and saying "hmmmm...it's Alejandro Luque." Losers.
Bertha is having a morbid fantasy where Lucas attacks Miranda. Blood is spattered all over Miranda and the wall behind her. As she slides down the wall in a slump Lucas licks his bloody chops and Bertha looks like she's about to have an orgasm. No, really. She opens her eyes and Miranda is there, still in one piece. Miranda tells Bertha if Lucas attacks her then Bertha will go to jail. Bertha says no, if Lucas attacks Miranda then he will kill her. "Like he killed Tomasa?" asks Miranda. Then we get to see the Tomasa "no Lucas no no no no no" scene again.
Bertha accuses Miranda of turning Florencia and the rest of the family against her. She goes all "I gave my life for you three girls, took care of you during your formative years and never once hurt or injured you." I guess she's not counting the mental anguish, kicking their mom out and the copious lies. "Florencia would have died years earlier had I not taken her to the doctors." Again, not counting subverting the meds and murdering said doctors. Eventually Pamela shows up and needs to take Miranda's car to pick up her mom. She and Miranda will meet later. Bertha wants to show Miranda something in the library.
Juan and Renata have just made love and are saying sweet things to each other. He sings to her and while they laugh in bed Carola sobs alone in the churchyard. She asks God why Juan has to love Renata instead of her. Padre Santiago sees her and is happy at the return of the prodigal son. I know she's a girl but he said son. She tells him her tale of woe and Santiago, recognizing an easy mark, invites her to mass.
Nuria tells Fernanda that she always thought her parents died and that Bertha was her godmother, but she just found out that Bertha is her mom. Fernanda asks Nuria if she really believes this.
Alejandro, in Flor's room, is still unable to reach Fabricio's phone. Flor tells him she wants him to make up with Miranda. Then she wonders about her biological father, did he know about her? Al says certainly not. Gonzalo is like a true father to her but Alfredo Luque was also a great man. Flor asks if Gonzalo didn't shoot Alfredo then who did? Tia Bertha? Alejandro thinks so. Flor says she remembers "that night" but it was dark and stormy. Al keeps trying to reach Fabricio's cellular.
Guapo and his thugs have dragged a bound, blindfolded and bloody Fabricio to a filthy hideout. Faby demands to know who and why. El Guapo tells him to listen up...rule #1 is that he hates people who ask stupid questions, rule #2 is that Fabricio will speak only when spoken to and he will tell them exactly what they want to know. Every time he breaks a rule he'll get punished. El Guapo punches him in the huevos as a demonstration. Then he punches him some more. Maybe Fabricio is the guajalote.
We must be in some alternate universe because Bertha is pouring a couple of brandies and Miranda is flipping through a photo album reminiscing about childhood trips to Disneyland and Paris. Bertha tells Miranda that the photos are proof of how she dedicated her life to the girls and how much fun they always had together. Does Miranda see any sadness and tears in these photos? (Well no, because who takes pictures of sadness and tears? But I digress.) For some reason Miranda seems to be buying this gigantic load of bull.
Nuria is sobbing in Fernanda's office. She says she loves Bertha (what?), says she doesn't care if she's godmother or mother, Bertha is all she's had in her life. (Didn't she have the sadistic nuns in addition to the abusive Bertha?) Fern thought bubbles that this probably isn't a good time to tell Nuria the truth. Nuria mention's Bertha's grave heart condition. Fern is surprised at this tall tale but pretends she knows. She calms Nuria but ushers her out of the office pronto so that she can scowl about Bertha's lies.
After the lovemaking Juan is asleep and Renata is all hyper. Typical. Francisco and Amparo arrive home and tell Renata how happy they are to have her in the house. Francisco says it's like having a daughter and he has a surprise for her, it's a cheap hideous doll! However Renata is thrilled and says for the first time she really feels like she's part of a family. Francisco asks Renata wouldn't she like to call Fernanda mama? Renata doesn't know. She cries that she can't forget that she was left alone and until now never knew what it was like to be sung to sleep.
Pamela has come to the church to pick up Andrea. Fermin shows up and offers his condolences. Pamela cries that it's horrible that he had to sacrifice himself so that nobody would do damage to them. By the way, he left a letter for Fermin and she'll bring it to him later on at the bank.
Francisco and Amparo encourage Renata to give Fernanda a chance. Renata says part of her wants to be in Fernanda's arms and another part loathes her. She can't forget all those years as an orphan (huh? what about dad and her sisters?) Anyway, her mom abandoned her, she heard a bunch of lies and she doesn't know what to believe.
Fernanda is happy that Alejandro and Flor have bonded. He says his dad would be happy. The phone rings and it's Luciano. Alejandro tells him to try to get more information out of Lasagna; probably about who is beating her up. I hope she spills the beans. Fern wants Al to make up with Miranda. Alejandro is starting to go crazy worrying about Fabricio.
Bertha cries crocodile tears and tells Miranda she's sorry for her role in Flor and Fabricio's relationship. She had no idea that the Fernanda/Bertha saga would repeat itself with Miranda and Florencia. She asks Miranda, "What was my crime?!?" What about being a big fat liar for starters, oh yeah, and that serial killer thing that spans decades, and the child abuse? But before Miranda can answer her phone rings. It's Fabricio and he tells her that he has been kidnapped. She cries "but how, where are you? Please tell me!" Bertha tries to look impactada but we know darn well she really wants to look orgasmica.

La Fea Más Bella #140 11/7/06 A little bit of celos can go a long way
Lola talks to Marcia about the betrayl of her husband. Marcia says she understands; she can’t believe that Lola’s husband wants half of everything. Lety calls and Marcia asks if she has the clients’ appointments ready. Marcia proclaims that she’s coordinating the meetings and hangs up. Marcia tells Lola it’s okay that she went to see the lawyer that morning. Lola thanks her and walks out of the office.
Sara and Juana comfort Lola. Alicia comes over and asks Lola if Lopez gave her (Lola) permission to come late. Lola says that if Alicia has a problem with it then she needs to talk to her boss, Lety. Alicia sarcastically says she’s trembling with fear. Sara adds her insults. Lola leaves the floor while Sara and Juana continue to argue with Alicia. Sara hits the mark when she starts to talk about Alicia’s repossessed Mercedes. As usual, Alicia looks insulted and then leaves, but not before she gets to answer back. She tells them that she can get her car when ever she wants, blah, blah, blah. She can get another one, a better one. Uh-hu, yeah Alicia; sure you will, and I bet those chiches won’t melt if you light a match under them either. She walks back over to her desk and decides to call Tomas.
Tomas is driving down the street in his not-a-Mercedes Mercedes. The camera makes love to the car. Tomas talks about taking Alicia to the ocean in that car. Shocker! At that moment his cellular rings. Geez, I wonder who it could be? Alicia is calling from the bathroom. She asks Tomas if he remembers her. He slams on the breaks and then starts talking and giggling in his weird voice. Tomas asks for a moment. He very considerately pulls his car over to talk on his phone. He tells her that he’s pulling over his Mercedes, it’s very big so that’s difficult to do. She understands. She has…had one too. She lectures him for not calling. Alicia asks if Tomas wants to go out for coffee or some drinks. She’s missed him a whole, whole lot. She asks if Tomas forgot to call her. No, he tells her I was going to call you when I got to the office. She asks when they can see each other; when will Tomas have time. Tomas states that he has some important meetings tonight but they should get together tomorrow. Alicia pretends not to understand. She whines that she’s bothering him. No, no! Let me think. After looking at his very empty planner, he tells her that their only option is tomorrow. She needs to tell him where and when to pick her up. She complains that she’s all made up and it’s a shame that he’s leaving her alone. Oh well, he can pick her up at her apartment. She demands that Lety does not find out about their date. “Lety!” he exclaims.
Julieta tells Erasmo that she cannot get through to Tomas. Erasmo is upset because he needs Tomas’s help with the car. Julieta tells him that she’ll help him. Erasmo doesn’t want her help because she knows nothing about cars. Julieta stays optimistic and says that she can learn.
Tomas continues to talk on the phone with Alicia. She thought he hung up on her. No, he tells her; he was thinking about what she said about Lety. He too doesn’t want Lety to find out about their date. “She would kill me,” he asides. Alicia says she can’t imagine the problems it would create in the office. Alicia tells Tomas that their dinner tomorrow will be a friendly dinner to talk about business. He buys it hook, line and sinker. Tomas asks Alicia for directions to her apartment. She loves it when he points out how nice her neighborhood is. Tomas lies and says that he has many friends who live there. She tells him to pick her up at nine o’clock. He promises to be on time. Tomas goes into serious scary stalker behavior and talks to Alicia’s photo.
Erasmo and Julieta work on the family car. Moty gets in the way, and this causes the car to start smoking by pushing the pedals. Julieta ineffectively fusses with the dog. Erasmo decides that there is no doubt that women should not work on cars. Where is Tomas!!!??? He throws down his rag in frustration.
Martha eyes Alicia’s candy. She walks over to Sara, but the candy keeps calling. She grabs a white chocolate treat. Marcia is about to put it into her mouth, but Alicia catches her. Alicia demands that Marcia return the chocolate. Martha begs for Alicia to let her have it. Juana and Sara press Martha to return it. oooohhh! Cat fight!
Erasmo accuses Julieta of causing the problems with the car. She says that it’s only a little problem. Erasmo thinks about how much money it will cost to fix the car. Julieta says that it’s time they buy a new car. Erasmo is incredulous. The car smokes some more.
The cat fight continues until Martha passes out. Alicia gives Martha the chocolate. Marcia runs in and tells someone to go get Martha water. Marcia tells Martha that she needs to see a doctor. This diet of hers is killing her. Alicia is incapable of being so kind. Marcia pulls Alicia aside and asks if she was fighting with the cuartel. Alicia basically says they started it. Marcia can not believe that Alicia is smiling about Martha being sick. Alicia says she’s smiling for another reason, but she cannot tell Marcia what it is. Juana runs in with some water for Marcia.
Erasmo complains to Julieta that he does not want to buy a new car. She makes a joke about cars like theirs being only in museums At that moment, Tomas drives up in his Mercedes. He flips down the top for effect. Erasmo asks him if he’s a chauffeur for someone famous. Nope, this is the new car for the manager of Filmo Imagen!
Fernando comes in to Lety’s office. He has some paperwork about the Sportwin commercial and for the trip to Germany. She asks him to put it on her desk and then returns to her work. Fernando offers to take her home tonight. That’s okay, Tomas will take her home. Marcia calls him, incessantly. Fernando replies that he’s coming. Fernando asks why Tomas is coming for her. Well, Lety just wants to be careful now that Doña Marcia is back. Marcia comes in for Fernando. He stomps his foot and leaves.
Erasmo makes fun of Tomas’s driving skills. Tomas literally falls out of the car. He tells Erasmo that he bought the car from a dealership with Filmo Imagen’s money. Erasmo says that money belongs to Fernando.
PM asks Martha if she feels better. Martha is only worried that whatever she eats will make her more fat. Martha’s daughter and husband run in. They’re going to take her to the doctor. Paco thanks PM for taking care of Martha. The family leaves.
Erasmo asks if Fernando authorized the purchase of the automobile or if he even knows about it. Tomas says he doesn’t know, but he Fernando will find out today. Erasmo gets into the driver seat. Tomas tries to kick him out, but Erasmo is entranced. Julieta and Moty gets into the passenger seat. Erasmo points out that the car has a television. Tomas wants to leave.
The brass are in a meeting about the Sportwin commercial. Lety goes over the costs of the Sportwin commercial. Fernando and Omar agree that Lety’s analysis is correct. Fernando asks her what cost the most. Lety says a lot of money was requested by Luigi. Of course, Luigi exclaims! He goes on about his position and about Lety. He’s not going to allow her to question him and his activities! Fernando starts to defend her, but Lety says there’s no need. Luigi is fine, he’s always nice. This stumps both of the men.
Tomas pulls up to Conceptos in his Mercedes. Unfortunately, he runs into and not over Jasmin. He asks her if she knows Lety. Jasmin volunteers to call Lety for him. Nope, he’ll call on his cellular. Jasmin giggles. Lety doesn’t answer.
Lety and Fernando enter her office. She wants to talk business. He stalls. Why wouldn’t she allow him to defend her in front of Luigi? She doesn’t want him to be obliged to do defend her. It’s just not a good idea.
Tomas and Jasmin talk about…Jasmin. She’s Conceptos’ test model. She asks if Tomas is Lety’s friend. No, he tells her. He’s her boyfriend. She didn’t know that Lety had such an elegant boyfriend. Tomas tries to downplay his relationship. Jasmin pardons herself, but not before sucking on Tomas’s face a little. Tomas gives her his card. Jasmin gets excited and asks if he works in production. They discuss the possibility of her becoming a model for Filmo Imagen. Jasmin offers to give him her cell phone number. She even enters it herself. She asks if she can get into the car. She’s cold. Um, it’s a convertible. Tomas opens the passenger side, but she gets into the driver’s side. He admires her assets while she admires the car.
Fernando asks Lety to call Tomas and tell him that Fernando will take her home. Marcia calls out for him again. Fernando leaves to talk to her. Marcia tells Fernando that there is still some business to look to with Bellalife. Afterwards, she wants him to come over to her house. She asks if he has another thing to do. No, he tells her. Good thing he doesn’t have to take Lety home anymore. Lety now has a rich boyfriend to take her home in his car. Marcia points out that Tomas has the latest model, expensive Mercedes. Lety leaves her office and tells Fernando that she’s going home. She also says good-bye to Marcia. Marcia scrunches her face. This must be her substitute for blinking. Fernando watches Lety leave. Marcia asks Fernando what’s wrong. She leaves and blows him a kiss. Nothing, but he forgot to ask Lety something. Marcia blows him a kiss and leaves. He imitates her and rolls his eyes.
Jasmin goes on about the car. Juana points her out to the cuartel. Sara takes off for Jasmin who wisely decides it’s time to get out of the car. She tells Tomas not to forget to call. Sara and Lola confront Jasmin for her behavior with Lety’s boyfriend. Jasmin plays dumb. Her Flaquito drives up and sees everyone arguing.
Omar and Fernando talk about their new dilemma. Fernando spies Lety out of the corner of his eye. He asks what she’s doing still there. Nothing, Tomas hasn’t arrived yet but she’s leaving right now. Fernando pulls Omar toward his office.
Efren urges Jasmin to hurry up and leave. Lola comes over and beats the hood of the car. He tells her that they can talk another time. Lola snaps. She tries to pull Efren out of the car. She fails, but Sara succeeds. PM yells in his face. Sara holds him so that Lola can yell at him. They argue about Efren wanting half of everything. She makes fun of his car. Efren slips and says that he won’t throw Lola out of the house but she will have to pay rent to him. Sara discards him. Efren starts to confront her. Sara pets him and then head-butts him. He passes out on the hood of the car. Jasmin accuses the cuartel of killing her Flaquito. He wakes up and they scurry off into the night with Efren crying in his best girl voice the whole time. Tomas can’t figure any of this out.
Tomas tells Lety about what happened. Lety runs over to the cuartel to check on Lola. She tells Tomas that she’s waiting for “someone” to leave the office. Lety asks Lola if she wants a ride to her house. Lola says no thank you. The cuartel asks Lety to introduce them to her boyfriend, but she only offers excuses. Juana tells Lety that Tomas was making nice with Jasmin. Lety turns around to look at Tomas and puts him in check with one look.
Fernando and Omar walk out of the office. Omar calls Lety a gargoyle. Fernando gets upset. They leave.
Lety leaves the cuartel and walks over to Tomas. She asks for his cellular. He doesn’t want to let her. She finds Jasmin’s number in there. Fernando and Omar walk out. She demands that Tomas opens the door. He does and takes her bag. Then he walks her over to the passenger side and helps her in. They fake laugh and he jogs over to his side. The whole time Fernando does his best impression of Omar’s mental constipation look.
The two men run back into Conceptos. Fernando wants to know where in the world did Tomas get the money to buy that car! Fernando, being paranoid (for good reason), thinks that they planned this. After Omar asks some “insightful” questions, Fernando goes back to the car. It’s worth 90,000 dollars! Ever perceptive Omar points out that they would need money from a company like Conceptos. Or from Filmo Imagen! Fernando points out.
Will Fernando confront Tomas and Lety?
Can Tomas keep a secret about his date with Alicia?
Have a great night, everyone!

La Fea Más Bella #139 11/6/06 The one where EVERYBODY TALKS LOUDLY
Fernando and Omar are in the conference room, and Lety is in her office listening in. Fernando tells Omar that his date with Lety was caught short because Tomas came to pick her up at Yuri’s shindig. Omar mocks Fern because Lety chose Tomas “el nerd” instead of a night of crazy passionate animal love with Fern . Omar makes growling noises (must be another nod to Mundo de Fieras). Fern is still mad that she actually left with Tomas. Fern rolls his eyes, slams an office chair, and generally acts like a jealous man in love. Omar thinks it’s a bad sign. He advises Fern that he better not wait too long to spend some quality time with Lety. He should take the little vampire out for a good time ASAP. Lety is disgusted. They wonder some more about why Lety is acting weird. Fern mentions his promise to Lety to break his engagement with Marcia. Aha! Omar decides that must be why Lety is being weird. She must be doubting whether Fern will really break it off! He thinks he’s soooo smart. Fern tells Omar he’s wrong; Fern already discussed that with Lety and she was very understanding. In any case, Fern says he needs help writing a card for Lety, something really good. He can’t keep giving Lety sappy cards, she deserves better, something profound. Profound? Omar doesn’t get it. He helps him write another sappy card.
Lety’s phone rings and Lety answers brusquely. It’s Tomas. He says Filmo Imagen just got the approval for a bank loan that Conceptos needs. Lety asks him to transfer the funds to Coceptos right away. She also says she got Fernando to sign another promissory note (pagare), just in case the weasels find a way for the first documents (that give her ownership of Conseptos) to disappear. That must have been what Lety had Fern sign the day before when she was hounding him for a Carvajallmark card… very sneaky! Tomas says he is at a car dealership. He found a car he likes – of course he did, the lot is full of flashy and super expensive looking convertibles. He needs her to come down to authorize the car loan. Lety agrees to come by during her lunch break.
Marcia and Alicia talk about Tomas. They call him a naco (low-class) with money. Alicia tells Marcia that Lety was crying over him in the bathroom the other day, so their relationship must be in trouble. Marcia wonders what Alicia is plotting. Alicia denies plotting anything but it’s obvious that she sees this as an opportunity to get a piece of the naco pie. To change the subject, she ask Marcia if she got her a gift from Germany. Marcia feigns ignorance but then hands over a bottle of perfume.
Omar leaves the conference room and Fernando reads the sappy card that Omar just wrote for him. He’s not impressed. He says that what he really needs to tell Lety is that he feels terrible, that every day the situation with Marcia feels worse, that the engagement ring was Omar the Embicile's doing, not his. (Where are you, Lety? This is the part where you should be eavesdropping!)
Alicia and Marcia walk back to the common area, and Alicia asks Marcia who the gift box she’s carrying is for. Marcia loudly exclaims that it’s an esclava (a manly bracelet) for Fern, as a thank you gift for HER ENGAGEMENT RING. The cuartel hear this (how could they not?) and are impressed. Alicia loudly thanks Marcia for getting her the EXPENSIVE PERFUME. As Alicia walks to her desk, she sees that her last piece of chocolate is missing. She is impactada! She squeals in terror and accuses the cuartel of taking it. They deny any connection to the tragic disappearance of her chocolate. They are offended at Alicia’s allegation. (Seriously, these people need to find something more time-worthy to argue about.) Meanwhile, in the powder room, Martha is ogling Alicia’s chocolate. She talks to it and plays with it. She puts it up to the mirror so she can look at it twice as much. It’s sort of creepy. Alicia and the cuartel continue to argue as Martha walks back in, licking her lips.
Marcia goes into Fern’s office to bring him the present. Fern feigns excitement to see her. He pretends he likes the manly esclava, “Ah Caray!” She loudly thanks him for her ENGAGEMENT RING, and Lety overhears. Marcia is feeling frisky. She says she wants him NOW, but Fern says she needs to calm down, because Lety is in the next room. Marcia gets ticked off and says someday she’ll get used to the idea that wherever Fern is, Lety will always be there too. Lety, listening in, is ticked off too.
Carolina brings Lety a candle. Caro lights it and tells Lety that fire purifies (a nod to Doña Jacinta at Barreras De Amor). Caro says Lety should always light the candle with a purpose in mind. "Like what?" Caro explains that, for example, as she lit the candle just now, she hoped that it will help Lety purify her body of all the negativity she is feeling, and she also thought about the person who Lety is mad at. She gives Lety a quick lesson on karma. Caro tells Lety to always keep the candle lit. As soon as Caro leaves, Lety blows out the candle.
Jasmin and Lola have another confrontation. Lola says that Efren was never interested in her house until Jasmin showed up. Jasmin pretends to be hurt. Irma is nearby and tells Jasmin not to play dumb, they know what she’s up to. As Jasmin tries to walk away, Lola accidentally-on-purpose bumps a package that Jasmin is holding. The package breaks open. It’s a plaque that says “Welcome To Our New Home… Efren y Jasmin.” Lola is impactada. Jasmin tells Lola that she better pay for the plaque because it was a gift for Efren. Lola says she’ll be happy to pay for it, but she’s going to keep the plaque so she can finish breaking it… over Efren’s head! Jasmin says “Uh, nevermind” and scampers off.
Fernando brings Lety a card and a box of chocolates. Lety admires Fern’s new manly esclava, and asks if Marcia got it for him. Fern nervously says that she did, but it’s just a souvenir, and that she probably got it at the airport. Lety thought bubbles “Yeah right, a souvenir in exchange for the engagement ring.” Fernando hastely leaves. Lety reads the card. It says that he’s troubled because she is not acting herself, that his body misses her (this sounded much better in Spanish). Lety wants to believe what’s in the card, but remembers hearing Fern asking Omar for help writing it.
Lety goes through Fern’s office on her way to lunch. She says “Thanks for the chocolate, it was… rancid!” (Good one!) Fern looks crushed. Lety says she’s just kidding, the chocolate was fine. Omar walks in. Lety is just cold enough to him to make them wonder if she’s doing it on purpose. Lety walks out.
The cuartel invites Lety to lunch, but she tells them she can’t. When she realizes Fern and Omar are listening, she tells the cuartel that it’s because SHE IS HAVING LUNCH WITH HER BOYFRIEND, and that he told her he has a surprise for her. Omar and Fern (1) are impactados, and (2) wonder what the surprise could be. Omar asks if Fern gave Lety her card. Fern says he did, and that he had to write it himself, because Omar’s writing stinks. They argue like 8-year olds. Omar says Fernando can do his own writing from now on, he won’t be Fernando’s Cyrano de Bergerac anymore. He calls Fernando “Neruda” and “Shakespear” and tells Fern he better take Lety on a hot date immediately! Fern agrees but says it’s not so easy with Marcia around.
Lety arrives at dealership. She realizes there’s nothing but luxury autos there and tells Tomas he’s crazy. Tomas demonstrates for Lety how cool he looks sitting in a sleek convertible talking on the cell phone in his radio announcer voice. Lety asks how much it costs. “Oh, it’s just a million pesos, about 90,000 dollars.”
Omar theorizes that Tomas must be trying to seduce “la fea.” Fernando clenches his teeth and says Lety is NOT UGLY. Omar suspects that Fern must really be jealous.
Tomas tries to convince Lety to buy the million-peso car. Lety says that while technically, they can afford it, she’s just not comfortable buying something so classy. Tomas says that in that case, they should just go on and live their lives as busy little worker bees, letting someone else enjoy the good life (or something like that). He gets Lety to touch the car, then to sit in it. “A car like this makes us better-looking. Guys will be lining up for you .” Lety finally agrees to buy the car. Tomas is ecstatic.
Lety and Tomas drive up to Conceptos in their new car. The cuartel, Saimon, Alicia and Marcia are all outside coming back from lunch. They are all impressed by the car. Lety loudly thanks Tomas and calls him MI AMOR. Tomas loudly calls Lety MI VIDA.
As he gets in the car, he calls out “Ciao” to Alicia and then drives away. Alicia explains to Marcia that the guy is Lety’s boyfriend. The cuartel ask Lety why she didn’t introduce Tomas to them. Alicia tells Lety her boyfriend must be a chauffeur. Lety, who is not in the mood for this, replies that, no, he is not a chauffeur; no, he did not win the car in a raffle; no, he did not get it from an ex-husband; and oh yeah, nobody will be showing up to tow his car anytime, because he actually works for his stuff. The cuartel cackle in delight. Alicia says she won’t reduce herself to their level by responding to them.
In Fern’s office, Fern, Marcia, and Omar are talking business. They need Lety to draw up some paperwork. Fern calls for Lety. Marcia says Lety is not in her office, she’s outside showing off he boyfriend and her car to her friends. Fernando is incensed! He goes outside to look for her. He sternly tells her to come inside, because they lots of work to do. The cuartel comment that Lety always has to fix all of Fernando’s problems.
Alicia is wallowing in self-pity. She tells Marcia about how the cuartel taunts her because they repo’ed her car from the Conceptos lot. Marcia tells her not to worry about it, that it’s just silly office gossip, and that Alicia should not bring herself to their level. Marcia leaves and Alicia thinks aloud that Marcia is right; that she is not at their level. She has even less then them, because she doesn’t have a car or a boyfriend, she is lower then them. Awwwwh, poor Alicia... NOT!
Fernando is in his office when Lety walks in. He points out that she did not immediately rush back up as he asked her to. Woops, sorry, she says (though not very sincerely). Fern asks if she had lunch with Tomas. She says she did. He is at his desk trying to stay calm but he is acting very hostile toward his highlighters. He asks why she was showing off her “BOYFRIEND” to her friends. He makes harsh quote marks with his fingers in the air. I thought the veins in his neck would burst! She points out that it was his idea for her to say that Tomas is her boyfriend. Besides, she says, you look so happy with Marcia, what with ENGAGEMENT RING and all. Fernando is impactado. He stutters, “I didn’t want you to...” and Lety finishes his sentence “to find out that you got her a ring?” She says that she’s fine with it. After all, he needs to keep the relationship with Marcia in order to keep Ariel from dissolving the company, etc, etc.… Fern changes the subject. He needs Lety to put together some paperwork, and he wants to make sure the fake documents are perfect for the upcoming board meeting. Lety smiles the most evil smile that ever was smiled.

Heridas Monday 11/06/06
El Magnate dies peacefully with a look of relief on his face in the arms of the real government agent.
Cesar is now ordering even Bertha around in his apartment. She scoffs at him and says, no he’d better listen to her first as she has important news for him. He says he’s all ears and she asks him if he knows any reason Gonzalo would know enough to go to London. Cesar is surprised as heck to hear about this.
Alejandro is discussing Leonardo on the phone with Luciano when Lizania finally appears in the hallway asking where her mother went so early in the morning. Alejandro looks at his sister and suddenly realizes she’s wearing those ugly sunglasses for a reason and it isn’t the so-called migraine she’s complained about.
Cesar says Gonzalo has no reason at all to know about his activities in London and he says somewhat menacingly that he hopes she had nothing to do with it. Bertha tells him she’s not that stupid. So he asks her to get hold of Luis Alberto and have him meet him at the usual restaurant but she tells him she’s not his secretary. He goes off half-cocked and warns her not to get him crazy, and spits at her that he said it was “a favor, a favor!” She actually gives in and goes to make the call. In the meantime he calls Daira back a second time and asks her again not to tell Alejandro that he called about Lizania or told her anything about it. She promises to be discreet and asks to meet the girls that saw Lizania like this. He agrees to arrange a meeting with them. She hangs up and tells Santiago what Cesar had called about and that she was going finally to talk to some girls who realized Lizania’s problem and had told Cesar.
Alejandro takes off Lizania’s glasses and is shocked to see how bad the bruises are, and immediately wants to know who did it to her. Lizania starts crying, but she refuses to tell him, says it was an accident, just games – “What kind of games are you playing?” It finally comes out that she actually enjoys it, which just floors Alejandro. She still refuses to tell him who beat her because she’s afraid her brother will send somebody to beat him up or go himself and beat him up. (Talk about your “twisted sister”.....) He tells her that she and Daira are leaving in another day for Italy. She doesn’t put up an argument. (I guess she needs a break – I mean a rest.)
Gabino, Arcadia and Nati are cleaning out the pool area when he says he plans to tell Miranda that all the hacienda owners around except her and the Manglars’ are eager to sell out. He calls Miranda and she says to use the fact that he’s well known and a trusted employee to get them to come to a meeting with Miranda there.
Cesar insults Bertha again and broadly hints about “her daughter”, then tries to blackmail her. Sansone comes by and tells him that Nuria hasn’t been heard from. Cesar tells him to return to her apartment and get out of her who she was with and where she went. He has orders to beat her if need be. Sansone leaves and Bertha asks how he knows about Nuria but he says it’s enough that he knows. Bertha tells Cesar to back off or she’ll let people know he’s the father of Nuria’s baby and then walks out. For whatever reason Cesar doesn’t up the ante before Bertha goes.
Fabricio finally works up the nerve and tells Florencia how and why Veronica has been blackmailing him. Florencia says she loves him and forgives him but never wants the girl around them ever again. He leaves to get her some treat she’s craving.
Pamela and her mother read El Magnate’s final letter to them and cry over his self-sacrifice. They lament the fact they'll never know his name.
Renata invites Veronica over to Juan’s to warn her against blackmailing Fabricio anymore. Veronica has a great laugh at Renata’s expense over Renata’s “new reality” and standard of living. Veronica eventually breaks down and cries about her rotten situation with her illness and her rage. Renata tries to console her and tells her destruction of one’s self or of others is not the answer.
Alejandro brings Pamela to see Miranda and when she finds out he’s there the two argue about everything and nothing. He asks her when will she allow him to speak to her and she says perhaps never. He tells her how fussy and demanding she always is (You said it, Ale!) and she answers that it takes one to know one. (This masochistic thing obviously runs in the family. --Enough already, Alejandro! This woman has been nothing but rude, mean, arrogant and demanding from the moment you met. Where's your sense of self-respect.)
He turns to leave and Miranda stops him long enough to warn him that if he goes to visit Florencia she now knows they are brother and sister. He is bewildered by this news and asks why she didn’t seem to realize she was risking her life. Miranda says because just like her she was tired of lies and half truths. He leaves in disgust to see Florencia. Pamela suggests Miranda go after him and tell him she loves him, but Miranda just swats away that idea saying there’s no reason to. Pamela tells her after that it was Luciano who, on Leonardo's orders, took the proof of the mob's activities to the police and saved her and her mother and her father's money.
Florencia and Fernanda are chatting in the hospital room and Bertha rushes in. Florencia tells her to leave, that she isn’t wanted there. Bertha wonders what’s going on and why she’s so mean. Florencia tells her she remembers everything from that fateful night and what she and her father both were saying to each other. Bertha tries to shock her by telling her that Fernanda is her mother. Florencia says she knows and that she’s extremely happy to have her for a mother.
Then Bertha tries to shock her again by telling her that Gonzalo isn’t her real father and that she’s Alejandro’s sister. Florencia shoots back that she knows all that too, so get out and don’t come back. Bertha attempts the “how do you dare to judge me when I cared for your needs and raised you as my own” speech. “All I ever did was to do exactly as you wanted.” When that doesn’t work she blames Fernanda and starts hitting her. Juan finally comes running in and pulls Bertha off Fernanda. Bertha, finally speechless, screams her frustrations like a wild animal, and she runs out of the room.
Renata is still trying to console Veronica, but in the end Veronica tells her that she has no idea where she’s going to find money for her treatments next month and if she knew something about Renata she would definitely blackmail her as well. Renata tells her to get out of her house then, and Veronica has the last laugh telling her, “I wouldn’t call this place a house! It’s a pigsty!” Then she stomps out.
Luis Alberto and Nuria are eating lunch together and she explains that she had to cancel their meeting last night because she was so tired. He wipes away all of her tears and tells her she can count on him and that she knows he loves her. He would be a loving father to her baby. She thanks him and says no because she loves Cesar and is married. Then she tells him how Roman found out about her being registered as Bertha’s daughter and got copies of the documents. She says Bertha always told her that her parents had died and had her put in charge of her as a foster mother. Luis wants her to talk to Bertha and to get the truth but Nuria is afraid to confront her. The whole idea of really having Bertha as her real mother is frightening to her.
Bertha goes straight to the convent and is angry to find out that the Mother Superior gave Fernanda the copies of the entire file. The nun says the files are open to anybody who wants information. Bertha warns the nun that since she turned against her there will be consequences. The nun has things to hide also. She knows enough to worry once Bertha leaves.
Alejandro visits Florencia and she greets him as her brother. They all say they’re relieved not to have to walk on eggshells about all these things now. Florencia wonders where Daira and Lizania are. He explains Lizania is going through a bad spell and is about to leave to return to Italy. “In fact,” he explains, “she’s hooked on a masochistic relationship and you’d be shocked at the beating this guy gave her!” (Why send her to Italy? Ship her off to a psychiatric hospital somewhere for treatment!)
Once Bertha gets back home, she tells Lucas that she has to rest and think things through. She tells herself, “I never lose.” She calls up El Guapo and tells him to meet her. Then she lays down and takes a nap (What an image: two vicious dogs together.)
Arcadia asks if Gabino is going to ever tell Miranda about killing her horse, Chocolate. "Miranda won’t like it a bit, not to mention that it was an order of Bertha’s," she adds. Gabino figures he’s got no choice but to tell Miranda the truth. The two discuss the likelihood of Bertha returning. Arcadia suggests they ask Nati. Nati looks into the water of the pool and tells them that Bertha will be coming back and she will bring misfortune and death.

Mundo de Fieras: 11/06/06 Sigmund Help!!!!!!!!
Gabe is upstairs in Lui's room trying to console the boy, who is mewwwwin and crying and just general whimpering. He is all upset cause Papito is leaving (I'd be upset too if I had to stay with Mommy Dearest); but Gabe does his best Bob Cratchit and picks Tiny up, promising him good times at poppi's new digs. For a brief shining moment I have hope Gabe will drop Lui, that kid looks pretty stout, but once again my hopes are dashed.
Next there is a family conference where Gabe is telling Rog, Dinah, Pedro & Paulina that he and Joselyn have irreconcilable differences (mainly she is BSC & he is in love with MA), Gabe however leaves out these details. It looks like Reg & Dinah will be staying at the mansion, Paulina will be going with Dad & Pedro has to make up his mind. There is a lot of well, I just want you to be happy formalities.
Paulina receives like 100 white roses and a card from JC, but Karen gets to them first and sticks the card in the waistband of her jeans...and tells Paulina that the flowers are for Karen from JC and she hands one rose off to Paulina, like here ya go have some sloppy seconds.
Paulina is of course reduced to tears, JC calls to ask how she liked the flowers, but she yells at him. PLOT POINT*****Not to take sides here, but why would a guy call you to asked how you liked the flowers when he sent them to someone else...Well maybe Rog would do that to Diana, but JC is good and true.
Paulina packs her suitcase, which just amazes me as I am sure this girl will need an 18 foot moving van, just for her winter clothes. She pulls out a couple of what I assume to be "Dear Diary, my cousin JC is sooooo hawt", journals & she runs across the heart necklace of faded dreams....Ahhhhhhh Paulina, damn you, there we go back into the happiest 45 seconds of your life.
Meanwhile over at the hospital MA is visiting her mother, who is in the last thros of whatever is wrong with her...I mean I know she has Alzheimer’s, but she looked pretty physically healthy when last I checked. Clemente & of course Leo are also there. I hope if I am in the hospital, I get some PJ's that are not so revealing as I am slippin and fallin all over the place, they were an attractive shade of blue however. Leo says time is basically running out. Clemente tells MA that he & her mother were once in love. And no, no lite bulb went off, no thought bubble.
Back at the Good Mansion, Joselyn and Gabe have begun to argue....he basically wants to part ways, so they can both start over again and make new lives for themselves. Joselyn does not want any part of it. She's all no you won't & he is all yes I will.
Miriam blames all this on the arrival of MA, (of all people Miriam should be well aware of that itch you just gotta scratch)
Gabe walks outside on his way to work I guess, he is out in that giant front courtyard which is larger than several city parks here in Tulsa, but Joselyn follows him out and does her best Annie Oakley, unfortunately she pretends to shoot an imaginary beer bottle off the top of his head rather than just blowing his head off. After the wrist slitting incident & the Dider Dude shooting I think she could have whacked Gabe & just gotten a few months in "Feliz Acres". Gabe talks her down, takes the gun, Karen & Paulina come running out...Gabe leaves, Paulina takes off in her cute VW bug, but doesn't put the White Rose of Shame in the flower cup. As she pulls out JC comes running up on the grass strip in front of the mansion, but Paulina won't stop. Damn Dude did you run all the way from downtown?
I can't actually believe normal (or whatever) people would leave a BSC lady who just tried to shoot someone at home with a crippled kid...maybe I'm just overprotective that way.
Joselyn goes up and holds that lil stuffed tiger & converses with her lil stuffed son. It is creepy when she talks to him, she is so cloying....forget the legs, lil Opedius Rex is gonna require at least 20 years of therapy. After this Telenovela I may require therapy, but I digress, she basically tells Felix the mewwwwwwing Cat, that only Mami loves him and she suffers so much and it hurts so bad and he is gonna have to help Mami. "Oh Sigmund do you see where this is going?"
The bright spot of tonite was for me the two seconds my main man "Demian" was on. Tiberio was in his room and Demian tells to do whatever it takes to stop Gabe's construction of "Mother Teresa Acres", it was a Sopranos moment...Get it done whatever it takes, dinero is no problemo.
Miriam who has been putting the screws to Rog to come over to the dark side (like it was some great leap for him), has decided to pick up the pace, she puts a call in to Demian for some help. Demian turns to T for Thug in his rolodex & the next thing we know, Coyote is meeting with Miriam..She kinda looks like she'd do him if she had a bar of soap and five extra minutes.
Leo is having breakfast with the local Padre (of course he is...Cafe y Pan Dulce), the Padre, brings up Leo's mom dumping him all those years ago. Leo thought bubble, "Geez can't I just go through one day with out being reminded of what a Bastard I am?". When questioned Leo says he does not want to know about his Mom. I dunno, but I'm not buyin that Leo.
Leo leaves and runs into JC outside on the street, JC explains his broken heart and Leo kinda does the "your sister"? "Oh yeah here is the great news, she isn't my sister." Leo and JC hug, yes that is correct. JC, of course does not know that Paulina is not his cuzzin, so there is still that icky fathers are identical brothers whole yucky thing, but hey one problem at a time.
Okay now, believe it or not, Paulina is inside the same church talking to the Padre about JC, oh I love him, I can't forget him, he is the great love of my life...just the kind of yammering everyone who is not in love with JC wants to hear. Paulina leaves the church and with prompting from Leo, JC walks up to her.
JC tries to explain that life is just frickin great now cause they are not brother and sister, then he has to digress and explain that nonsense. Paulina still tells him it is over cause he kissed Karen, but he says Karen kissed him (I must say he does have a point). She storms off down the street, leaving poor JC in her dust.
I gotta say Shut-Up, I have so had it with this chick and her JC JC JC...just wait it gets worse.
Gabe is having a man to man conversation with Nic about his new apartment...at least I think they are sitting in what is supposed to be his new apartment...
PLOT POINT****What is it with all these Telenovela Metrosexuals? For the love of Gawd, I go thru this on LFMB...with Fer/Omar, now I have Leo/JC & Gabe/Nic, what is next man-purses? These guys are more sensitive than a group of pre-puberty campfire girls. Coyote is looking more attractive by the moment.
Speaking of which Miriam invites Rog to lunch, & as Rog pulls his "I not over compensating for my lack of masculinity" bright red sports car out, he is followed by not overcompensating Coyote. Rog meets with Miriam for lunch and oh look she gives him a present, two hot models....
Coyote is messing around the sports car acting like he his polishing the mirrors.
Rog is basically a man-whore and would happily sell out his own beloved Papi.
Rog gives Miriam a wink across the table and takes the porn version of the DoubleMint twins down to the lil red sportscar; just as he has one sitting on the back (remember this is a two seater) and he is about to put twin two into the passenger seat, a cop car pulls up and blocks his way. Ah, there is a Drug Dog, sniffin under the car, this dog is goin after the undercarriage of that car like Lassie sniffin Timmie outta the well. Oh Rog this does not bode well.
Joselyn gets another Dider call, he is lounging around his tropical paradise with a his KFed Wife-beater standard T & shorts, while that one leg is sporting the big bandage, Dider threatens Joselyn again for $$$$, yes guess what Dider has more copies of the straight to video, porn clip of their tryst. Pay-up or I'll give Gabe the unedited version. Joselyn hangs up. Frederico appears behind her, eavesdrop much?
He tell her he wants to help.
Frederico goes to Dider and threatens him, Dider tells Frederico some of Joselyn's recent shady activities.
Frederico is concerned for Joselyn's fragile state of mental health...Hello I am glad someone finally noticed, Frederico, realizes that attempting to shoot two people in the past week requires urgent attention.
Meanwhile on her sobbing way home from church, Paulina has decided to stop in and visit MA, at her death bed vigil. MA is sitting next to her mother, who is incoherent. Paulina comes in and the usual niceties are exchanged, MA tells her that her mother is in very bad condition. Paulina in turn starts sobbing and talking about JC, yes indeed let's make this all about Paulina. She has joined my list of tools on this show.
Dinah is standing her bedroom with an EPT in her hand, yipeeee, it is positivo, oh joy she is pregnant by that stellar future father and all round swell guy Rog, currently sitting in a Mexico City Police Station. Dinah is very happy and we can see thought bubble pictures of happy pitter pattering lil angels with curly blonde hair.
Gabe gets the phone call all parents dread, "Sir, we have Jr down at the station"
When Gabe arrives at the police station, he finds Miriam and Joselyn have beaten him to it. Of course, they have. Rog gives his step-mom some creepy special hugs and the whole family returns to Casa de Crazy. In the living room, more creepy hugs and Rog, urges Gabe to not move out and abandon his family.
Gabe goes to Paulina room and she is sobbing on the bed, "What is wrong my lil Princess", "Ewwww, it is that evil heart breaker JC"....See what I mean STHU.
Next scene, Gabe is rushing into JC's job and man-handling him. Paulina watches from the office door. Once again....did they take separate cars? Did they run to downtown, with Gabe and Paulina leaping over hedges, What the hell. Is it okay to smack someone around over a botched flower arrangement; are there just like no laws in Mexico what-so-ever?
Stay tuned for more family intrigue

Heridas Friday November 3
Alejandro tells Pamela to just accept the money and say thank you, or if she doesn’t want any part of it say no thanks. The conversation steers towards Miranda and Pamela tells Al that he broke her heart and won’t listen to his explanation.
Sanson tells Cesar that the only thing he heard Nuria say was that she was never coming back to Cesar’s apartment, or he should never come to hers, I couldn’t figure out which. Sanson tells Cesar about Renata going shopping with Bertha and buying many things. Cesar tries to figure out what Bertha wants with that family. The doorbell rings, Cesar tells Sanson “what are you, deaf?” and Sanson gets the door. It’s Lasagna in a really great tight shirt and she wants to talk to Cesar. She walks right over and accepts a kiss. This woman is insane. She even smiles at him. What a nutjob, tight shirt be damned.
Miranda is in Flor’s hospital room. Flor wants to ask Miranda a question, Miranda swears she will tell the truth. That takes a full minute for the two of them to work out. Then we have to wait for later to hear the question.
Pamela’s family and Alejandro, despite the earlier argument, are sitting down having coffee. Man, everyone on this show lives in a palace. Even the pobres have a nice house by poor people standards. The doorbell rings, Pamela answers. It’s Fermin. He has news that “you aren’t going to like.” He looks at Pamela’s ‘father’ and says to tell the truth please. He says that he told everything he knows, there’s nothing more to tell! Fermin says that the companies that used that bank account manufacture weapons, so Alejandro assumes that the account was used in arms trafficking. Remember how Fermin said it was going to be so complicated to get this info? It took him what, five minutes? Anyway.
We see a piece of art on Cesar’s wall, it’s a white outline of a woman on a black background. The woman is nude and lying down on her front, using her arms to push herself up. So, we see her backside and a side view of her front side. It’s horribly tacky and I think sums up Cesar completely. It reminds me of all the Nagel posters people in the U.S. always had about 15 years ago. Naked women disguised as art. I don’t have a problem with it, but oh my god 10/10 on the ‘naco’ scale. He’s telling someone (presumably Lasagna) that she’s stupid and this is what she deserves. The camera pans over and shows Lasagna with a face that actually shocked me. She has been beaten badly. It may be the first time this show has gotten a genuine reaction from me. He beat her up pretty good. For some reason though, she’s STILL THERE. You dumbass, get out of there. Cripes. He goes on about how her cries of pain grated on his ears. He tells her that tomorrow when she calms down she should come back, he has many things to go over with her. She says she’s leaving but isn’t coming back. He grabs her and says “You’ll be back. I know full well that you’ll be back.” Then he forcibly throws her out of the apartment and goes back to drinking.
Finally back to the hospital for whatever important question Florencia has to ask. She goes through her reasoning. She has a hereditary condition that nobody else in the family has, but she isn’t adopted, so which parent isn’t really her parent? Miranda wants to bolt from the room but promised to answer, and she does. “My father.” She tells her that to Gonz it doesn’t matter, to him she is his daughter. Flor asks, “He knows but it’s ok with him?” Miranda says yes, and it will always be that way. Flor says she wants to see him, to give him a hug. Miranda explains that he went on a trip, but he sent his love and kisses to Flor before leaving. Miranda says that Flor needs to know something else. Flor and Alejandro are brother and sister. Flor continues to cry. I don’t know if she’s happy or sad anymore at this point.
Everyone is saying thank you and see you later to Fermin and Pamela’s ‘father.’ He tells Al that he needs to go to a friend’s office first tomorrow, then he’ll go to the airport to leave the country. Al says ok and leaves. ‘Father’ tells Pamela and her mother that it feels like he has known them forever. Lots of hugs.
Flor cries a lot, so does Miranda. They decide that they both know what they have to do now. More crying. Sniff sniff. Flor remembers Miranda always being so strong when they were younger, now they cry more than ever. Flor says she’d give her life for them to just be young girls again. They recall some happy memories. This feels like a death scene, with the long speeches and all, but it’s really just a long crying scene. I guess the whole Fab thing isn’t a problem between them anymore.
Renata tells Juan on the phone that she sounds funny because she was talking with Erika about her mother. She sends greetings and kisses to Flor and says to tell Miranda that she’ll call her later. She tells him to get some sleep and eat something, all in a little kissy kissy voice that sounds very strange coming from her. Renata finishes telling Erika the long story of her mother. Erika rightly tells Renata that Fernanda deserves a chance to tell her side of the story.
Miranda cries some more and looks at the sleeping Flor and then leaves the room. Flor wakes up a little and cries some more, she thanks Miranda for being her sister. More crying. This still feels like a death scene even though it isn’t.
Lucas is back! Bertha comes into her room to find him on the bed. She welcomes him home warmly and starts talking to him like he’s a person. She tells him all the things she did and what she is going to do next. She tells him that she needs to make Flor dead, end Renata’s marriage, and make sure that Miranda doesn’t get pregnant. She also is going to use Daira and Lasagna to torture Al. He will be introduced to HER concept of love. Dramatic music.
Pamela and her mother bemoan the fact that ‘father’ wasn’t really who he said he was. Now they are alone. ‘Father’ enters and apologizes for causing so much pain. The women ask why he did things the way he did. Their father always planned to get the money to them when he got out of jail, but he was killed. He doesn’t really explain further. They have a long goodbye, the women go to bed.
Charo tells Miranda the latest Bertha movements. Charo then tells that Veronica came looking for Bertha but she (Charo) turned her away because Bertha wasn’t home. Miranda says good, when Charo is alone, nobody is allowed in the house. She says something about watching the chocolate and excuses herself. Miranda then thinks “I don’t care if it’s Alejandro’s or not, I’m opening it!”
‘Father’ calls Alejandro on his cell phone. He wants to go see someone before leaving the next day, something about nobody taking the blame for something they didn’t do. Al says sure, I’ll call Luciano in the morning and give him his orders. Then he tells ‘father’ that he is quite a gentleman. After Al hangs up Daira asks him what he’s going to do. Al says take him to the police, that’s what ‘father’ asked him to do. Then he asks if Lasagna knows yet that she’s being sent back to Italy. Daira says no, she’s hiding in her room. Al swears he’ll tear her door down tomorrow if he has to in order to talk to her. Daira says he’s grumpy because he misses Miranda and that he should call her to patch things up. Al says he can’t. He asks why Heridas De Amor don’t just kill so ther isn’t so much pain?
Miranda is looking through the envelope, they are Nuria’s personal papers, what is Bertha doing with them? She is going to discuss with Nuria when she sees her. She’s glad she didn’t call Al (why?) but she wants to see him. She goes on about wanting him for a while and there is more crying. We are treated to a montage of the honeymoon again. And more crying.
The next morning Miranda tells Charo to not put out any breakfast, she isn’t eating and Gonz is gone. Charo says sure, but what about Bertha? She’ll have a fit if nothing is out. Miranda says to tell Bertha that the woman of the house is Miranda, if Bertha has a problem she can come see her directly. Charo says ok, she still has a glass of orange juice on her tray, she says she has to go deliver it to the devil.
Fern and Roman are talking to Santiago about Nuria being registered as Bertha’s daughter and the orphanage where she grew up. Roman says he knows where Nuria lives, Santiago says to go get her, he needs to talk to her urgently. Fernanda asks Santiago to visit her later at her house to talk.
Bertha tells Charo that the juice is bad. She wants to know where Gonz went, finally she gets it out of her – London.
Carola comes into Renata’s room, Renata frostily asks her what she wants. Carola tells her that she saw Fernanda crying because of her and that it would be the last time Renata makes her cry. Renata says “is that all? Goodbye.” Carola begs her to be nice to Fernanda. Renata says really? Tell me. Carola goes on to tell Fernanda’s story from Fernanda’s point of view. More crying. Renata begs her to say it wasn’t really that way. Carola says her mother died when she was young, Renata shouldn’t waste the opportunity to be with her mother. Renata decides to be nice and asks if Carola would accept some of the extra clothes she bought without being insulted, she takes them. Raul busts in and announces that now they have a computer!
Santiago tells Daira that Lasagna must be under the influence of someone who hates Alejandro, it’s the only explanation. Her phone rings, it’s Cesar. He tells her some story that he knows someone who knows Lasagna and saw her being beat up by some guy, basically covering his butt for when everyone sees how she looks. Cesar’s doorbell rings, it’s Bertha. He isn’t very happy to see her.
The thugs are walking and talking, one is on the phone, he tells the others that ‘El Magnate’ has put all the money where they wanted it, now they can let him go.
‘Father’ is walking along, thinking that he has taken care of everything and now he can be free. The thugs phone rings again, the guy on the other end tells him that the suitcases were empty, El Magnate lied. Head thug says now the women (Pamela and her mother) and the guy from the bank are going to die. El Magnate is coming up the escalator right behind him. As El Magnate walks past him, the thug pulls out his gun and follows him up the next escalator, then shoots him in the back. Then he rides up the escalator behind him, just standing there like an idiot. He asks where the money is, holding his gun out, then some police lean over the wall above and tell him to freeze! Thug starts to move away and the police gun him down. They rush to El Magnate/’father’ and call for an ambulance. They tell him that they rounded up the entire gang of criminals. El Magnate slumps over, apparently dead. We hear some slow, depressing music and a long shot of El Magnate dying. I suppose he might not be dead, but it sure appears that he is.

La Fea Más Bella #138 11/3/06 Too tired to come up with a title tonight
Tuesday is Election Day in the USA. Here's an inspirational message from Jaime Camil on that subject.
Someone asked how long we take to do our recaps. I clocked this one at 3 hours but then had to type it up which took a lot longer than I expected (I'd be embarrassed to say how long). This is a crucial segment of the novela, and there's a lot of detail to cover, some of which deserves to be captured nearly word for word. There's also a lot of irrelevant nonsense, like Alicia's whining; I could save time if I glossed over some of that, but the truth is, she makes me laugh. So I have to include that too.
Anyway, to put this into perspective, it took me two hours to recap Ugly Betty last night... and that was in English. So the translation is really not the most time-consuming part of this process (even if I am constantly reaching for my dictionary). It's making sure all the details are right and trying to get the story to unfold as well in words as it did in pictures.
PMS (let's get this out of the way first)
Paula Maria is angry with Saimon for having secrets with Celso and not telling her about them. Saimon is angry with PM for going out and partying with Lola. She says she doesn't owe him an explanation - where was he? He says he won't tell her until she tells him. (Lola pokes her head in and warns them not to wake the children.)
Apparently they exlain everything to one another between scenes. When they come back, PM says okay, if that's true, where are those mariachis? He says if you don't believe me about that, why should I believe that you and Lola went to see El Cheque? They sulk.
Saimon angry leaves. As he runs away, PM sees the roses on the ground where he threw them earlier. She realizes that he was telling the truth. She begs his forgiveness and they make up. Hug. Kiss. Awwwww.
Finishing up with Yuri
Fern asks the ladies at the front desk if they've seen his assistant. He describes her as short, with glasses, wet-looking (? relanido ?) hair, mustache, and braid. (Wow, just imagine how he'd describe her if he didn't like her!) They say sorry, no. He draws the glasses and mustache in the air with his hands. He stalks off. Lety comes out of hiding and thanks the ladies for covering for her. She wonders where Tomas is.
Tomas is talking loudly on his cell phone in front of Yuri and the dancers, telling his imaginary chauffeur to cancel his reservations for the evening because he's got to find Lety. He hands his business card around to the dancers. He tells them they should call him and he'll go out with them. One-on-one, not as a group. He asks for his card back - he says it's his only one. Yuri asks, aren't you Lety's boyfriend? He says where did you hear that? She says Lety told her. Alicia arrives and Tomas hides.
Alicia does a Yuri impression in front of Yuri. They all clap and laugh... Alicia does not realize that they think she was doing a comedy routine. She tells Yuri to call her the next time she wants to do a show - she's a "public relationist" and also a dancer. She can do all the... Yuri interrupts and asks Alicia if she was looking for Luigi. If so, he's somewhere else.
Just then, Tomas passes through, speaking to "Rafa" (the chauffeur) again. This time he asks him to prepare his private jet. Alicia thinks his voice is familiar, and after Tomas leaves, she asks Yuri who he is. Yuri says he's Tomas Mora, general manager of Filmo-Imagen and Lety's boyfriend. Alicia is impactada!
Luigi enters and Al hurriedly tells him that Anais is waiting for him. She excuses herself and runs out to look for Tomas. Luigi also excuses himself. Irma says goodbye to Yuri and the dancers.
Tomas stumbles through the crowd, looking for Lety. He runs into Anais, who tells him Lety was looking for him. On his way past her, he smells her hair and decides to give her his only card. (To KEEP!) He asks her to call him so they can go out for tequilas some time. (Isn't she married?)
He tries again to make his way to the exit, but is snagged by Alicia. She introduces herself to him and actually pirouettes so he can check her out! Ugh. They flirt, and he says that she does not look the way he pictured her - shorter, with black hair, and much plainer. (This is a lie, since he is looking at her photo as he says this.) She says she hopes she didn't disappoint him. She admits that she was expecting him to be ugly, but instead, he's a hotty!
She pouts and says she's been waiting for him to invite her out for coffee. He gives her his card (aha, so that WASN'T really his only card!) and tells her to call him. She says what, me call you? She is offended. She says she's not going to leave until he commits to a time to call her.
He nervously says okay, I'll call you tomorrow. (We can see that he is torn between jumping her bones right there, and extricating himself politely out of loyalty to Lety.) She says that if he doesn't, she'll think it's because he really was disappointed after all. He promises he will call, but he has to leave now. He makes a snorty noise. Alicia almost makes a face at him, but recovers quickly. She gives him a tiny kiss on the corner of his mouth. He kisses her hand. Tomas looks like he's having a seizure.
Fernando interrupts this tender moment to ask Alicia if she's seen Lety. Alicia says no, why, did you lose her again? She introduces Tomas and Fern. (Fern recognizes him as the imbecile from the househunting video.) Tomas and Fern shake hands and greet one another very coldly. If you put a room temperature bottle of beer between their hands at this moment, it would be chilled to perfection instantly. Mmm. That sounds good.
Tomas finally gets away and meets Lety at the exit. They squabble briefly about one anothers' whereabouts and Tomas reveals that he met both Alicia and Fernando. Lety is horrified and wants to leave immediately. Tomas complains that he can't get on a bus dressed up like Manuel Mijares. She agrees that they should take a taxi.
Fern gets there two seconds after they leave. He's very frustrated. Yuri says to him again, "Lety is someone very special to you. Don't deny it!"
At Lety's house
Evidently Lety and Tomas do not speak at all during their cab ride, but instead wait until they get home to continue their earlier conversation about Tomas meeting Alicia and Fern. Lety scolds him for talking to Alicia. He says it wasn't his fault; she found him and flirted with him. Lety wants to know how Alicia knew him. "Women's intuition," Tomas glibly answers. He tells her that Alicia said she thought he'd be ugly, but found him very attractive. She said it right to his face.
Lety asks how he left it with Alicia. He said nothing came of it. Lety is relieved. She is much more curious about his meeting with Fern. What happened? She eagerly presses him for details. Tomas says that when Alicia introduced him to Fern, Fern's face turned deadly cold, like a snobbish metrosexual. (He accurately demonstrates this effect to Lety; she is delighted.)
They talk about what to do next. "Marry me," he says in his deep voice, and they giggle and snort. She says very soon, she'll throw all of Fernando's damn lies right back into his face. Very soon, he will pay.
Tomas wants more specifics. Will she quit the company? She says she can't quit the company - she already has the company! If she leaves the company, she will ruin it, but vengeance is not the way. (Gosh these novela characters sure are moody!) She wants to run away, but can't do it. She rehashes the financial relationship between Conceptos, Filmo-Imagen, etc. Tomas reminds her that Fernando has ridiculed and manipulated her.
Lety points out that Fernando distrusts both of them. She says let's just see what happens. I have some trouble understanding this part of the discussion, but I think she says let's just watch how much more Fern "loves" her as the debt increases.
RoboPop starts rasping at them for coming home so late. Tomas says it's okay - we took a taxi. RoboPop says what??? Don't they know how dangerous it is to ride a taxi around this city at night? They should have called him. He would have gone and picked them up.
Inspiration strikes. Lety says you know what? We're going to buy a car. RoboPop says, "who's we?" Lety says Filmo-Imagen will buy a car. Tomas will pick one out tomorrow. RoboPop questions whether she has the authority to spend her boss's money this way. "It's not his money," Lety says smugly. "It's Filmo-Imagen's." (He doesn't know all the details of the highly unethical and dangerous relationship between Conceptos and F-I.)
"Kids today," RoboPop complains, and goes to bed. Tomas tells Lety that RoboPop didn't notice his new look. "I like it," she tells him, indicating his hair. Tomas smiles. "It's like Vaseline," Lety finishes.
At Mendiola Manor
Fern is sitting on his bed, looking bewildered, when the phone rings. It's Marcia with the usual questions. Fern sounds completely indifferent and tiredly pushes himself through the conversation. "Oh hi, Marcia. You're coming home. That's nice. Uh, you know I'm at home, cuz that's where you called me. Alone, yep. Went to the Yuri show, now home to sleep. I promised I'd behave, and I have. So, when are you getting in tomorrow? Great. I'll be waiting. I, uh, I love you too."
He hangs up and remembers Yuri's words. "Lety is someone who is very special to you." He looks lost. "She's so special that I'm suffering for her," he says to himself.
Fern, you might want to get a couple of gallons of Chunky Monkey for yourself. Or perhaps Rocky Road would be a more appropriate choice...
Next morning in the executive lobby
Alicia is on the phone with her dad, remembering the good times. "I couldn't sleep last night, thinking about 'el.' Going places, being seen together, listening to music...." She sobs.
Sara and Juana, listening nearby, wonder who "el" is.
Alicia tells her father, "There was the time when we went to my cousin's wedding, or the time we went to Ixtapa and saw the countryside... all the nights we spent together, here and there, all the places we went, we looked at the moon, saw the sunrise, etc... I will never see 'el' again..."
Juana and Sara wonder who this man was that she obviously loved so much. They wonder if he's in the hospital, or maybe in prison. They are touched by the intensity of Alicia's emotion.
"Yes, Papa, I spoke to the lawyers. They won't let me visit, or even say where 'el' is!"
Sara and Juana are tantalized by this drama.
"If I don't pay the 500,000 pesos, I'll never get it back! I'll just die without my Mercedes!!"
Juana and Sara are as disgusted with themselves as they are with Alicia, for thinking that she was actually talking about a person. Hah!
She is still whining a while later. She is worried that the car is being exposed to the elements.
Saimon arrives with some chocolates she requested. She asks him for her change (I guess that means no tip). She continues speaking to her father with her mouth full of bonbons. She says Carolina told her that chocolate wards off depression. (You know what else wards off depression? A sexy silver convertible Mercedes.) "Papa, I'm gorgeous, I'm beautiful, but without a car and money, I'm not a pretty picture."
Martha and Lola approach. Lola is concerned about a meeting she has with El Cheque's lawyer this afternoon. She is going to need to be able to get away from the office and doesn't want to get in trouble for her absence.
Martha sees Alicia eating the chocolate bonbons. Alicia sees Martha staring and begins to tease her with the chocolates.
Marcia and Omar arrive. Alicia nearly mauls Marcia with joy. Alicia and Marcia go to Marcia's office to talk, while Omar heads towards Fern's office.
Alone in the lobby for a moment, Martha swipes one of Alicia's bonbons. She baby-talks at it for a little while, then sneaks it into the restroom where they can have some privacy.
In Marcia's Office
Alicia blames Marcia for the loss of her car. Marcia explains all of the things that are wrong with this theory. (This scene must have been done in multiple, nonconsecutive takes, because sometimes Marcia's eyeshadow is very orange, other times it is subtle.) Anyway, Marcia doesn't want to talk about Alicia's car. She wants to talk about Fernando. What happened last night?
Alicia says Fern's been good lately and describes how he spoke with the dancers. He didn't pay attention to any one particular girl, and he left by himself. Marcia seems annoyed by Fern's flawless behavior.
Alicia adds that Fern was constantly, frantically looking for Lety, who brought her boyfriend. Marcia is intrigued by this, but isn't sure what to make of it.
Rewind
Let's go back to first thing this morning, in Lety's office.
Lety is remembering the CarvaHallmarks she found in the dreaded Yellow Envelope, and wonders which one she'll get today. Fern arrives and wants to know what happened last night. She carelessly says she had plans with Tomas and then she went home. Fern is really wound up about this. "You had an engagement [interesting word choice] with ME and then you went with HIM!"
She puts on a contrite face and says something like, oh, yeah, gee, I don't know how I forgot about that, I guess it's just love that makes me forget things.
"Did love make you forget your plans with ME?? I don't get it, Lety."
She says she doesn't get it either, really, and she's sorry. Nothing happened! (The tone of her voice sounds sincere, but she clearly isn't putting any effort into choosing words that will soothe him.)
Fern says, "you're right. Nothing happened, because you spent the night - OUR night - planned for you and me... and Marcia is coming back today."
Lety says it's too bad - we're just going to have to wait until next week. He is aghast that she can say this so lightly, as if it doesn't matter to her that they'll have to wait a whole extra week. Lety says sure it matters, but he's told her many times that it can only be once a week when Marcia's around.
He asks her to tell him what's going on. Lety replies that he promised he'd break up with Marcia when she gets back from Germany. Is he going to do that?
He turns away and says "I'll be honest, Lety, I did mean that, but I can't do it." Lety wearily rolls her eyes and throws up her hands behind his back. "Because Ariel will dissolve his relationship with the Mendiolas and take over the company," she recites from rote memory. "I'm so glad you understand," the clueless oaf replies, "because you've been acting so strange."
Carolina enters Fern's office and hears their voices drifting faintly from Lety's room. Caro approaches for a better hear.
Lety: I understand, Fernando.
Fern: We'll wait till next week, but no longer.
Lety: I'm sorry, but you didn't leave me a gift?
Fern: Yeah I know. (stomps foot) Don't you care that we have to wait a week? Because I care, a lot!
Carolina opens the door and Fern starts talking about accounts (cuentas), balances, and sums. "Yep, me and Lety are talking about work, all the time," he tells Caro. Caro wants to discuss Cannes stuff with him, but he puts her off until later and excuses himself.
Lety tells Caro that she's feeling better. Caro agrees that she's looking better... a little better. She says Lety's office needs a candle. Caro will get her one, and they'll talk some more later.
Later, in Fern's office
Lety and Fern discuss money. Conceptos is going to need $175,000 to pay for some work they've been doing. Fernando is nervous about his ever-increasing debt. "Okay, if you don't trust me..." Lety guilts him, and he denies distrusting her and immediately signs for the debt.
She flashes the most evil, smug, crap-eating grin at him, and he misinterprets it. He says it's good to see her smile. He misses her laugh. In return, she wants a card and gift! He says he wants to give her something really special.
Lety retreats to her office and listens as he mutters over the CarvaHallmark Collection. He hates all of them and says he'll have to write one himself. He prays to God to guide his hand.
For some reason, Lety becomes desperate to interrupt him. She bursts out of her office on some pretense of wanting him to sign something else. She sees the card in his hand and says "hey, is that for me?" and tries to grab it from him. He strenuously resists, saying he doesn't like what's written inside, he wants to give her something more profound, like she deserves. He signs something else for her (at this point you get the feeling he'd sign anything just to get rid of her). Lety puts on that evil grin again and goes back to her office.
He continues to agonize over the terrible cards. "Pure filth," he remarks. Omar shows up and Fern gives him a hard time about them. Lety has trouble hearing. Fortunately, Fern says "let's talk in the boardroom," and it's actually easier for Lety to eavesdrop on them through that door.
(Out in the exec lobby, Sara says something about Omar that I don't get. It sounds like she's talking about lunchmeat. Salami? Maybe she's calling him a little weenie. Heh.)
The first thing Lety hears is Fern referring to "our problem with Lety." They talk about the difficulty with the cards, and her strange behavior, demanding gifts, spending time with Tomas. Omar is amazed that Fern seems jealous of a nerd. He asks, are you in love with Lety? (Lety listens hopefully.)
Fern thinks to himself how true it is, but he doesn't want to expose their love to Omar's ridicule, so instead he answers that he's furious with her, not jealous of Tomas. He describes how she ditched him, when earlier, she had wanted to go to Omar's apartment.
Omar is upset by this. He says "the first time could have been written off as an accident, but a second time would be a public disgrace."
Lety hears this and is repulsed.
Omar snorts and shares some inappropriate thoughts about Tomas and Lety. He says it's a bad sign. (Thanks for that, Captain Rehash!)
