Doña Bárbara - Wed., Feb. 11 - Marisela visits the Virgin of the Tree Bark again and Juan Primito is arrested

Santos asks Marisela if she is ok and she gets off of him. DB is really, really angry and starts calling Santos names. Santos asks DB why she always has to come and ruin everybody's parties. DB says that she doesn't care about other people, she is sure that Santos is the one behind the legal proceeding to transfer La Barquereña to Marisela. She says that he always wanted both haciendas. She tells him that he isn't any better than she is.

Genoveva and Pajarote kiss.

DB turns on Andrés, she calls him four-eyes, and says that he has shown ingratitude for what DB did to give him refuge and save his life. She asks if this is how Santos repays her for the love she gave him. She calls everyone there a bunch of traitors.

El Sapo wants to meet Marisela to see if she can help his plans.

A guy comes to tell Antonio about the dead cattle at Don Encarnación's hacienda. Santos tells his men that the party is over. They will go with Antonio to DE's hacienda. Marisela insists on staying behind with DB. "Do you really believe that Santos loves you?" DB asks Marisela.

All the terneras and their men return home only to realize that Genoveva is missing.

Pajarote tells Genoveva that he has had a lot of women but with her he feels something different - like tickling in his stomach. He can only calm that feeling by being with her and looking at her. He tells her that he has never said this to anyone but he thinks that he is in love with her. Unfortunately, Genoveva has fallen asleep and doesn't hear this declaration. Pajarote is annoyed and tells her to forget everything that he said.

Los Mondragon threaten Juan Primito and tell him not to say anything to anyone about what they bought.

Lucía returns Toñito to Cecilia and tells her how the party ended early.

DB and Marisela-
DB: Do you believe Santos loves you?
M: I don't know. I'm not interested in finding out.
DB: I'll tell you step by step how it will happen for you if it hasn't already: one day he will find you alone and will ask you to dance; he will embrace you like no one else; you will feel that the world is yours; he will look at you as if you were the most beautiful woman on earth; he will give you some delicious kisses and then he will say that you drive him crazy; then little by little, he will change you into a different person than you were before.
M: Into what?
DB: I don't know. Into his idea of the perfect woman. He couldn't do it with me or with Luisana. He will try with you because you are younger and naive. You will be like a doll in his hands. He will convert you into a marionette, you will see. Santos isn't what you think. I've lived with him a year and I got to know him. Behind that disguise of a good and just man, hides a devious and ambitious man. He wants to have all the land, all the old women (viejas) and all the power. He made a conquest of Luisana, the queen of the Capital. You know the story. And then who? The very same 'man eater,' your mother, and when I was at his feet, he threw me away like a dog. Now you come along. Don't deceive yourself, Marisela. You are his next victim.
M: I'm the victim? Why would he do that?
DB: It's obvious. He wins you, marries you and ends up with both haciendas. It's perfectly clear.
M: Why would he do it with me and not with you? He could have married you and ended up with both haciendas but he didn't do that. Forgive me, but you are comparing Santos to yourself. The Santos that you've been describing is not my Santos.

Cecilia tells Lucía that they are both in love with the same man but but Lucía shouldn't be concerned. That chapter of her life is over. Cecilia tells Lucía that she respects the institution of marriage and would never do anything that would harm their union. Lucía says that she saw how Antonio looked at Cecilia today and that upset her and made her feel insecure. Cecilia says that Lucía shouldn't feel insecure. She is young, pretty and rich. If anyone should be insecure, it's Cecilia. Antonio is all Lucía's.

Mujiquita commits to starting an investigation into how DE's cattle got poisoned.

DB and Marisela:
DB: Then you are the same stupid little girl who continues to believe that Santos is your 'Santitos.'
M: I no longer am the little girl that you could manipulate with tears and words of regret. Santos is not my 'Santitos.' I see people the way they are. He has faults but he is good, noble and sincere. No matter how much you want to, you can't change my idea of him. If you are spiteful and hate him, I am sorry. I know him very well and he far from the image of the ambitious monster you want to paint for me.
DB: Really, then who suddenly put your head the idea to come back and fight me for El Miedo? Who, besides Santos?
Marisela gives DB Lorenzo's letter and tells her to read it.

Altagracia tries to wake Genoveva up. She asks how Genoveva ended up drunk. Geno says that she thinks the fruit juice was spiked ('bautizada,' literally, 'baptised'). Genoveva says that she had a wonderful dream. Pajarote remembers Geno's sweet kisses and lips like caramel. Then he comes back to reality and says her lips are like garlic ('de ajo').

DB dismisses Lorenzo's letter and says that Marisela will never get El Miedo.

Santos offers to let DE's cattle on his land to get them away from the poisoned water. DE accepts.

Marisela can't stop thinking about Santos and his kisses.

Likewise, Santos is thinking about how much he needs Marisela.

DB tells Eustaquia that Santos is the love of her life. "The love of your life is you, yourself," says Eustaquia, "Barbarita, you aren't the woman who can get involved body and soul with one man. If you did, you would be lost. I thought that this love would change you but nothing and no one changes you!" Eustaquia begs DB to leave El Miedo. She has enough money to start a new life far away from here. DB says that she will never leave El Miedo.

Lucía tells Antonio that he and Cecilia still care about each other. She asks him to swear on his child that he doesn't feel anything for Cecila. Antonio tells her not to get his child involved in her jealousies. Lucía replies that Antonio just doesn't want to swear that he doesn't feel anything for Cecilia.

DB tells Eustaquia that she is a monster and she isn't going to change. DB says that she thought Santos' love could change her but life has convinced her that love and friendship don't exist. It's all a lie. "Of course, they exist," says Eustaquia, "but you ruin everything. Santos fell in love with someone who doesn't exist." DB warns Eustaquia not to cross the line. She knows what happens to DB's enemies. Eustaquia tells DB to go ahead and kill the only person who has loved her without asking anything in return. Eustaquia says that DB knows that the hacienda belongs to Marisela. DB has enough money to buy three haciendas. Why doesn't she show some compassion to her daughter. DB says that if Marisela continues to annoy her, she is capable of...
Eustaquia warns her that that the day she harms Marisela will the last day Eustaquia stays with DB.

Lucia continues to reproach Antonio for the way he looks at Cecilia. She asks if he still loves Cecilia. Antonio says that Cecilia was his first love and he cares about her but things didn't work out and now he is with Lucia. He says that he won't betray or leave her; he will honor the promises that he made. Lucia says that she doesn't want him with because of a promise but because he loves her. Antonio say that he does love her. Lucia says that he doesn't love her the same way that he loved Cecilia. She asks him to forgive her and says that she loves him so much and is terrified of losing him.

Cecilia asks Marisela to come with her to the new school in the town that Santos and the Cattlemen's Association helped to build. Marisela puts her off for a day. She wants to visit the Virgin of the Tree Bark and asks her something very important.

Dr. Arias, aka CSI Progresso, has determined that DE's cattle were poisoned by DDT. Antonio says that it was definitely a crime and he thinks DB was responsible. Mujiquita tells him not to get ahead of the evidence. First, they have to find out where the DDT was bought. Dr. Arias says that is easy; it's sold in the hardware store and a large quantity would have been necessary to poison the cattle.

Santos comes to Cecilia's house and Casilda tells him that Marisela went to the shrine of the Virigin of the Tree Bark.

Mujiquita questions the owner of the hardware store and discovers that Juan Primito bought a large amount of DDT. He decides that the guilty party is JP. Antonio says that someone must have sent JP. He couldn't have gotten the idea on his own.

At the shrine, Marisela says that even though lots of things have changed in her life, she continues to love Santos and can't get him out of her heart. She flashes back to the first time she came to the shrine in the rain and Santos found her. Santos comes again to find her. "In this place," he says, "I once found you asking for me to love you. You don't have to ask the Virgin because I love you, Marisela." "This time," says Marisela, "I asked for just the opposite. I asked for you to leave me in peace. That you go away from me once and for all."

Antonio and DE are sure that DB is behind the cattle poisoning and demand that Mujica do something. He is trying to calm down when DB comes into the police station and says that her cattle are being poisoned, too.

Marisela and Santos-
S: Marisela, you can't ask the Virgin for that. Don't treat me this way, please. Don't you realize that I love you?
M: When did you realize that? When?
S: I don't know. Always, I suppose. I simply was afraid to recognize my own feelings.
M: How was that? You loved me and you were sleeping with my mother. Now you are going to deny that you were crazy about her?
S: No, I could never deny that. I was wildly in love with you mother. But that love ended in the same violent way that it started. In my mania to make the world better, I tried to change her. I wanted to give her an opportunity for our feelings but DB isn't capable of loving anyone. I spent a lot of time in the darkness paying the consequences of my errors. I missed you terribly, Marisela.
M: Then, it's true that I am a lot like her because in this moment I can't love anyone either.
S: That's a lie. I know that you love me too. Marisela, please, don't deny our love. Don't put more barriers between what we feel. Marisela, please, give me an opportunity to show you that I love you and that there is no one more important to me in the world than you. Marisela, you are my sunshine. If you abandon me, I will be left in the darkness forever. Your light... your light is the only good thing that I have in my life. Marisela, I love you. I love you more than my life.
They embrace.

DB demands that Mujica arrest the lowlives that poisoned her cattle and she casts suspicion on Fausto and his mysterious boss. Mujica replies that the person who bought the poison wasn't from outside. It was a person from Progresso - Juan Primito.

Marisela and Santos are embracing when she pulls back.
M: This is wrong. I didn't come back for this.
S: Come on, Marisela, don't deny what you feel. Aren't these the same feelings you have had all this time?
M: This is what makes me so angry with you, Santos Luzardo. You broke my heart not once but thousands of times. You told me that you didn't love me, that I was like your little sister. All of a sudden, a lightbulb goes on in your head and now you love me, now you adore me.
S: You're so pretty when you're angry. Do you remember when you would say, 'celebro' [I celebrate, instead of 'cerebro,' 'head']? I miss those times when you would say things wrong and then I would correct you.
M: Yes, and you wanted me to be a lady (señorita) and ... Hey, stop manipulating me, Santos, as if I were an idiot. Answer me! In what exact moment did you realize that you loved me? When?
S: When I saw you going away from me in that boat. In that moment, I saw clearly. My life with you was going away, Marisela. Look, we all don't have your purity and your blameless soul. There are people like me, that have to be make a lot of mistakes in order to find out where love is. I am not the perfect person I want to be. I am a man full of passions and anger. Now, I know. I was blind, sunshine, blind. Afterwards, nothing was the same. My life fell apart. I appeared to be a zombie. Ask Cecilia how many times I asked about you. All day, I talked and thought about you. You didn't miss me?
M: Miss you? Of course, I didn't miss you. Of course not.
S: Not even a little bit? (Marisela shakes her head.) Tell me, sunshine, do you still love me?

Pajarote comes to see Genoveva and tells her that MN was right. She is like a pineapple, prickly on the outside but sweet inside and yesterday he proved it. Her lips are like a ripe pineapple. Genoveva says that she doesn't know what he is talking about. She has never let him kiss her. She says that she doesn't remember anything about what happened with him yesterday and doesn't want anything to do with him. She tells him to get out.

Los Mondragon congratulate BP on his good idea. If anyone is blamed for what happened, it will be the idiot (bobo).

DB tells Mujica that he can't think that JP was responsible for the poisoning. Mujica replies that JP bought the poison. Two policemen drag JP into the police station. He begs DB to tell them that he didn't do anything and not to put him in jail.

Santos and Marisela-
M: It's too late to ask that question. What does it matter if I love? That woman will always be between us.
S: Bárbara and I are finished. Our history is in the past, Marisela, it's over.
M: No, it's not in the past. It's a painful and bitter. I am here because of her. I came to get back what is mine - the dignity of the Barqueros. I came to do justice.
S: And me?
M: You decided your life a long time ago.
S: Marisela, I never decided anything because my life is now in your hands. Marisela, one single word from you and I will get back all the happiness and all that is beautiful that you brought to me. My life is with you.
M: You are a shameless, manipulating crook!
S: I am a shameless, a crook, very manipulative and very much in love.
They kiss.

Las Tontas no Van - Fri the 13th - Male things come in little paquetes....

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

We open with Candi tearing poor Ceci a new one for “deceiving” her and not really being her friend, but wanting “something else” from her. Ceci begs her not to reject her in that way but as others have said, Candi seems to be enlightened about everything except herself.

To Barbara’s credit, she apparently hears the conversation, or at least knows what it’s about so she offers to talk to Candi and tells her that Ceci should have been honest but that doesn’t mean she’s not a friend and that she deserves to be understood, she is in love and didn‘t mean to hurt her. Ummm, yeah, Candi. Score one for Barb for a change.

Apparently Zamora has a girlfriend. I never heard her mentioned before. She sees the guys “observing” two lovely ladies’ bare legs and chews them out for this. Zamora begs his Mariquita not to be jealous but she storms off.

Pau wants to take Roci out, but she wants to be with her friends and asks if they can come too. Abue assume of course and tells them yes, but our Pau is having none of that, and prefers instead to leave Roci with the kids. Abue knows how to tough love them into obeying, a skill that Pau admires, sort of. Pau wipes "kid slime" off of her hands and clearly finds the younger ones filthy. Abue offers her handkerchief in case Pau feels like vomiting, which she promptly throws on the ground and the result is Pau calling Greg common and Greg calling Pau a pig.

Chayo and Candi are remarking on the success of the institute when a troubled Santi enters and asks to be alone with Candi. He shows her the “ caveman like” painting of her oh so native looking face making fun and informing her that her sister came to see him about forming an alliance to keep her away from Pato. Santi shares that he actually envies that guy. Why, because he has three. He has his wife who gives him everything at home, he has a lover who has his child and whom he visits, and then miraculously he has now got the love who has been resuscitated from the dead! Lucky guy he has a harem! Yeah, I suppose when you put it that way…. Well Candi doesn’t quite agree and stomps on his foot.

This was my favortie part and I’m so excited that they didn’t seem to edit this out, considering Caca makes the cutting room floor. The three kids are trying to figure out how babies are born, and they all seem to recall at once, screaming VAGINA except for Beto, who really doesn’t know yet. Roci kindly fills him in though that it’s the part where babies are born. Chava says unless they are bigger then they are born through the door. OK, so they figured out where they are born, but they are stumped on how they get in there in the first place. Beto suggests that the Mom drinks a whole bean and it goes into her tummy and then it grows there. Chava says no it’s a seed that she grows. Regardless of how it gets in there, they recall again that they know it comes out through the VAGINA! This time Abue hears them and wants to know what craziness they are talking about. They tell her and she calls them pigs!

She runs in complaining about their insolence to Issy and Jaime who are planning for their wedding. Issy says to leave them be alone outside and not to worry about them. They can tell that she in interested in their preparations so they ask if she wants to help. She suggests that they decorate everything like ancient Rome, with columns and corniches and everyone in robes, well, the wedding pair thinks they hear the children and send her back out to check on them. Ha!

Candi goes to yell at Pato for using her picture but he is on the phone with a client asking how he likes the portrait on Amate paper . She waits for him to finish and then yells at him that with this little joke he’s started something because Ali went to see Santi about being an ally. Pato professes his love for her and his son again and she only says that it’s good if he loves his son because Chavo deserves to be surrounded by as many people who love him as possible.

We then go to Santi’s office, where he is attending a “gringa” who learned from the internet that he is highly recommended and trustworthy and so she came to Mexico for her surgery. She speaks English with a Spanish accent. But the funny thing is Santi actually speaks English with less of an accent. She wants her boobs and butt cheeks bigger, and lipo suction.

Charly and Lu are ice skating in a mall. Poor Charly wants more of what he got before, but Lu tells him they have to wait for a while.

Santi tells Lalo how excited he is that patients from the states are coming to him and that he’s gotten good reviews. He thinks this is a great stepping stone for him, and they remarks something about how insurance in the US doesn’t cover this, but it’s less expensive in Mexico.

Lalo is smoking because he’s upset and thinks Chayo has a lover because she’s been getting flowers all the time. Santi is impactado but the conversation doesn’t go much further because the Maritzka shows up to take him to her ultrasound appointment.

Arturo calls Gregi and wants to see her. He is calling her as a friend, but she wants him to apologize to Candi. He reminds her he's been good to her and she agrees he did help when her husband died. He says he's all alone and needs to speak to his friend. She agrees to meet him.

At the restaurant, Z&T agree to be Candi's exclusive models. She showers them with thankful kisses, which causes Tono to lose his cool and pass out on the floor.

Everything is happy happy at the doctor's as Mari and Santi see their little male blob for the first time. Santi is excited he might have a future America player.

Ceci goes to whine to Meno about her out of the closet experience. His response is to order two tequilas, and she promptly doubles.

Marissa is wallowing in her great fortune that her baby is going to be a boy and this is a fortuitous addition to her arsenal. Of course Santi loves her and he'll never leave them now, she says. It seems like she is talking to herself, but actually Raul is there helping her with some flowers.

Arturo meets Gregoria and he is very polite and for our benefit recites how he is appreciative of her friendship, she's the only female friend he has, in fact he really has no friends anymore. He doesn't tell his wife he talks to her though, because "she's so jealous". That's a guy's excuse for not being strong enough to handle a woman's emotions when she's unhappy. But I digress...

Santi is with his hombre clan and they are goofing around and he mentions he's having a boy. They all congratulate him as he says yeah, except it's with a woman I don't love. Doh, enter Raul, less than enthused to hear his sister spoken of in this regard. Uh yeah, and the other buddies are all too happy to depart to allow them to work this out alone. Heh, I'd want out of there too.

Ok here's the weird thing. How many of you have ever done this, shown up to some friend's house who you think happens to like your boyfriend with your ultrasound pictures in hand and show off your little alien seed? Well, we know why she does it, but it's just weird. Candi congratulates her, but thinks maybe she shouldn't be the Madrina afterall. Marissa says, why, Because you are in love with my boyfriend and wish this baby was yours? Busted.

Uh yeah, and if she was would she tell? Doubtful. As I suspected, Candi says no, I don't want to have your boyfriend's child. I tell all my girlfriends this as a matter of course. They discuss this for a bit and Mari tells her she's talking very honestly to her. Before she leaves she utters the words of doom that "if anything happens to me, you would make the best Mom for my child, trust me." Argh, I'm hearing clanging of the chains of the telenovela Gods. Sigh. Chava wonders if Rocio's Dad can have two girlfriends. He gets mad when Candi ignores his question and shoves eggs down his throat. Yeah, that would irritate me too.

Raul busts a nut over Santiago's perceived disrespect of Mari. Santi at least is apologetic that he's in love with another woman he's goign to lose over all this. A buddy tried to intervene telling him Raul doesn't know lost love, but oooooh that makes it worse, as Raul of course lost his pregnant wife. Duh.

Arturo expresses regret that he didn't get to know Clemente better. Gregi is perplexed because Clem was his employee and went wherever he did. Art says yes, but I was the boss and he was merely an employee. Nice. Accordingly, Gregi thinks she should be going anyway, she's not usually away from home this late and she doesn't like that his wife doesn't know they meet, and she worries what others might think. Art tells her nothing is her fault and he'll explain if there is ever a problem. They argue about the morals of a chilango (Mexico City dweller) vs. those of a tapatia (Guadalajaran). He begs her to finish her food and not leave.

So as the cowards file out, Santi continues to explain to Raul that even though he doesn't really love Mari, she's a good woman and he'll do right by her etc. Raul warns him if anything happens to his sister, Santi'll answer to him.

At the big house, the maid asks for money for the food, the kids already ate breakfast, and Santi promises his ma he'll talk to her. She wants to know how he's inviting to the wedding with him. he tells her to invite whoever she wants. He asks if Mari came and showed her the ultrasound. he says the baby has a package just like his Pa, and it will be a little America player, a boy. Roci doesn't like boys and would rather a sister.

Meno has a chat with Candi over her display with Ceci, but she doesn't want to talk about that so he says ok let's talk about Mari instead because Chava said that you like her boyfriend. They rehash this and he tells her she can't dare let the plastic doc get married without telling him how she feels.....

Ok, now this is just weird. Ali is shoving pineapple into a sleeping Pato's mouth. Turn's out she's decided to try and please him with breakfast in bed, a bath, and well, some funny business. He accepts all this but still tells her he doesn't love her and he still loves Candi and she should know better, and she doesn't really want him to lie. Uh, yeah buddy, I think she does. She wouldn't still be with you otherwise. I still felt bad for Ali, because he's "saying" honest things, but he's still not leaving her, so what the heck. He should just abandon her already and get it over with if he's so damn honest. OK, there I said it. He even sniffed his juice as if it may have been poisoned.

Santi goes to see Candi and wants to apologize for attacking her about the photo. She says she'll accept if he admits a few things, like he's jealous of Pato, and other things. In the end she still doesn't forgive. This is essentially the same banter they always have.

We get a nice love scene of non-lovers to Kany Garcia - Todo Basta

At Santi's Senos are Us, a woman who apparently has been defrauded by her surgeon is sick for having had surgery to remove part of her breasts. Santiago tends to her immediately as an emergency patient and apologizes to Natalie who is watching that she'll have to wait. Well she freaks out and decides it might be more expensive in the US but she doesn't want to end up like that woman and leaves. Horty tries to talk her out of it, but it doesn't work.

Mari is with Candi and makes fun of her for fleeing from Pato all the time. She denies it, but of course Pato calls and Candi doesn't want to talk to him. Mari says see you are fleeing him because you are in love with Santi. You know Pato loves you and won't leave you alone until he gets you.

Pat deals it hard to Ali before he leaves to see Candi.

Santi, unlike most plastic surgeons, promises yet another person he won't charge for his services to help her mother. The duaghter is grateful of course.

Lulu stops Candi on her way out and makes her go down to parking even though she has no car.

She gets down there and who is there but Pato with about 3 dozen ro so red roses professing his love to her. He tells her her sister isn't her problem it's his. Santi happens to be here at the same time and hears this profession of love. He doesn't take it well and throws a bucket of water in the general area of Pato's paquete, saying he's a little hot and needed to cool down so, now he should be cooler. Pato looks impactado and we won't learn if he has shrinkage until next time.

Fuego en la Sangre, 02/13/09: Feo the Phoenix Arises From His Ash Heap and Motherly Love Eventually Outs Eva

Capítulos 198 & 199

[As we begin our journey back into celluloid insanity, we start a few scenes further in to avoid as much of Uni’s ten additional minutes of filler as we can. –ed.]

By the light of the inevitable and eternally full moon of Mexiloon, Fernando is nourishing Gabriela’s ever-increasing sense of paranoia by trying to talk her into allowing herself to be buried alive in order to make everybody think she’s dead so they can blow this taco stand and avoid being caught by their enemies (the ones that Feo hasn’t successfully offed yet). (Query 1: How does he plan to make the doctor think she’s stopped breathing and essentially reached room temperature, not to mention pull off the ruse long enough to have the wake, the mass and the burial? Query 2: Wouldn’t it just be easier to fake suicide?) He says he would dig her up immediately afterwards himself and they would head for parts unknown with the money she’s put together from the sale of the hacienda and what’s in her personal accounts.

Gabi’s survival instinct kicks in re: her childhood fears, and she refuses to go along with the hare-brained idea. She won’t discuss it any further because it’s freaking her out. (Speaking of freaky, what’s with Feo’s 3-day old stubble and the filthy clothes again? He sneaks in and out of that bungalow and their bedroom continually and can’t take the time to clean up or shave in between failed murder attempts? Phew! Forget smelling salts. The stench from all that b.o. and the halitosis should have brought Sarita to her senses way before Franco found her!) Fer tells Gabi he’s got to go back to retrieve something they took from him, and to just think about the idea then leaves.

At the clinic Franco learns Sarita’s fine and just needs to sleep it off. The others show up at Sarita’s bedside chattering up a storm and ask where Franco found her. He explains she was knocked out in the cottage with her shirt ripped open. They wonder who could have attacked her and if she was left untouched. No, it seems she was fine. He croons her awake and she immediately claims –ta-dah!!--that Fernando Escandon is A-L-I-I-I-V-E! Caritas impactadas all ‘round.

Gabi gets back to her office and begins to lose it. She’s started talking to herself again, but what’s worse is now she’s answering, too. Gabi keeps repeating aloud that she cannot allow herself to be buried alive and Fernando has got to be told no-go.

In town at the little clinic, nobody actually believes that Fernando is alive and they tell Sarita that the knock on her noggin has got her all confused, but she is certain it was him she saw. Juan asks if she got a good look at him and she says no, because things were still fuzzy, but she knows it was him. Everyone argues with her that it’s impossible because he was blown to bits in the truck explosion. Slowfia comments to Juan that Fer cannot possibly still be alive. (Why are we not surprised?) He pulls Sofia aside and confides to her that he has his suspicions about it being Fernando but can’t explain till later. Juan then goes back to the group and asks Franco if he saw or noticed anything suspicious at the bungalow, but Franco admits that when Sarita came to and started groaning his first thought was to get her to a doctor. Besides, he adds, Padre Tadeo insisted that whoever he might find there he was specifically to ignore him.

Fer, in the meantime, returns to the sacristy (Padre Tadeo’s little office in the church) and starts rummaging around in various hidy-holes for his money as Nabor walks in on him.

At the Double R (Hacienda de los Robles-Reyes) meanwhile, Hortensia walks in on Rigo and Eugenia and overhears their talking about his tumor. He admits to her that it’s returned. The three of them tearfully console one another and determine to leave it all up to Divine Providence.

Back at the sacristy, Nabor accuses Fernando and screams that apart from lying about his death to everyone he’s now pillaging around in the sacristy and defiling it by trying to steal whatever’s valuable. Fer yells back that he’s only taking the stuff to make up for the money of his that they found and took from him. Nabor is surprised to find out that what he found in the bag was Fernando’s and says he’s glad he doesn’t have it to give back to him now; that Padre Tadeo has it. Fer tries to leave with his knapsack full of valuables (okay, so maybe it's a pillow case he stole off somebody's clothesline) and Nabor makes the mistake of trying to stop him and gets beaten up and kicked in the mouth for his troubles.

Outside Rigo prays to a shrine of the virgencita and asks that since he’s resigned to going with her would she protect his loved ones. He goes inside to the sacristy and finds Fer beating up on Nabor, screaming at him to tell him where the priest put his money. Nabor yells at Rigo to high-tail it for the Reyes’s and tell them that Fernando is really alive. Rigo runs out. Feo runs out right after.

Back at the clinic, Juan tells Sofia that she and her sisters are going to have to move to the Double R with them before things get any worse around there. She refuses to leave Mama alone in the hacienda because she’s so sick. Jimena tells her that normally she’d understand but the three of them are in danger and more so now that somebody attacked Sarita. Juan says they cannot be expected to protect them otherwise, especially if they have no idea who their enemy is. Sarita asks him if he believes her about Feo being alive. He says he does and that he’s always suspected that the creep faked his death.

Oscar disagrees and says they saw him blown to bits inside his truck, but Juan says he remembers he told Oscar when he shot that bullet through the window that the person in there didn’t move. As far as he’s concerned, Fernando put somebody else in there to take his place to make them believe he was really dead. Franco agrees with Juan. Just then Rigo comes running into the room and yells excitedly that he just saw Fernando Escandon alive in the sacristy. The men all run to the church to find him. Sarita asks Sofia if it could be true that Fer was the one who attacked her.

Fernando ends up in the graveyard looking for a place to hide for the night. (With all the ghouls there, I’m sure he’s in the company of fiends…er …friends.)

Back at the little clinic Sofia begs Sarita to tell her that Fer didn’t do anything to her. Sarita is crying at the mere thought that Fer would attack her like that.

Juan and his brothers find Nabor all bloodied and beaten in the sacristy. Nabor informs them that Fer just left and took all the valuables from the church. They run out to search for him and nary a peep about telling Comisario Muttonchops.

Back in her office at the Double E (Hacienda de las Elizondo y del Escandon a Escondidas) Gabi nurses another brandy and wonders where her beloved Feo has gone and what it was he had to get back. She’s mad at life now that everything is going sour and everybody seems to be against her. (Same ol’, same ol’ yada yada.) She’d love to run away but being buried alive won’t be part of the plan if she does. Feo’s just got to understand.

At the clinic Sofia and Jimena are trying to comfort Sarita. Sarita says that she remembers now that there was somebody else there in the bungalow with her and Fer. She can’t remember who, but the voice was familiar. She says she doesn’t think the attack was meant for her, either. It seemed that it was a trap set for somebody else. Sofia is impactada because she suddenly remembers that Mama made a big deal about insisting Sofia should stop everything to go over to the bungalow immediately to see what she could find out about what might have happened to Root. She tells her sisters that she thinks the trap was set for her. Sarita and Jimena are surprised to hear that Mama and Fer would have collaborated together to attack Sofia. (¡Qué horrible!)

That night Quintina goes out to dinner at some fancy restaurant in Puebla City with her new bidnez associate and his wife. We get a PSA from the Mexican Government about how the average rube should order their meat in “polite society” and what a finger bowl is. The guy and his wife laugh at Quintina’s supposed wit and they laugh and chuckle amongst themselves as she endearingly (not) flicks water at them from her finger bowl. (¡Qué encantadora! Yes. Charming. Apparently, you are allowed to splash water from the finger bowls at the table like a bunch of kindergarteners as long as you remember to order your food with your pinkies properly poised. FF>>)

We beam back to Cd. Serdán where Juan, Franco, and Oscar have apparently found Pad Tad in his office and they’re complaining about the padre knowing all along that Fernando was alive. According to the priest, it’s enough for him that if not in this life, then in the Afterlife, Fer will suffer in sulfured surroundings. Juan is frustrated that the priest never bothered to tell them…er…warn them, but the priest can’t quite get them to understand that he couldn’t break his vows, especially when after he tried to, God brought him back to life. Juan can’t reconcile Tadeo’s having left them all like that at the mercy of a total sociopath. “Baloney! My brothers and I saved your life, Padre!” The priest insists that he couldn’t be disrespectful to the virgencita, etc., etc. Oscar gets angry now. “Despite innocent lives?” Padre Tadeo yells back self-righteously some mumbo jumbo that yes, when words aren’t as appropriate as silence, it’s better to keep quiet.

Pad Tad calms back down a few seconds later and says anyway, he’s not the one to give them the answers they require; there’s someone else that they should be asking, not him. Juan says he knows who, but as for him, he’s not sure he can ever believe Tadeo again. They storm out of the church in disgust leaving Pad Tad yammering on about his only being the servant of God and a soldier of Christ (and Viewerville agreeing with the Reyes’s that when it comes to helping them fight E-e-evil, he’s been every bit as useless as a three-dollar bill or, shall we say, teats on a bull).

Meanwhile, Feo stumbles into the cemetery’s tool shed to spend the night. He can’t stand the place. He was born for greater things. Anyway, he thinks about all the people that he’s killed and that many of them are buried there.

Sofia tells her sisters that what happened to Sarita could have been a trap for her. She is convinced that Fer’s always wanted to get back at her since she’d always despised and spurned him. She tells them then how Mama had specifically sent her to the cottage to find out what had happened to Root and if it hadn’t been for Rosendo coming to get her to help check on Mr. Ed, she’d have been the one in the bungalow instead of Sarita. So, apparently, Fernando must have mistaken Sarita for her. Jimena still finds it hard to believe that Mama, as harsh and demanding as she might be, would actually have tried to have somebody off one of her own daughters.

Back at the Double E, Tio V.O., Juan and his brothers confront Gabi with what they’ve learned and now suspect. “You knew that Fernando Escandon was still alive and you hid him in the bungalow!” She denies all and insists Feo’s dead and that they’re trying to drive her crazy by bringing him back up to her now. Oscar tells her to stop lying. “Not only did you know he was really alive, but you helped him set a trap to attack one of your daughters!” She insists that she cannot understand how they could dare accuse her of something so vile. Vicente says they know she wants to confuse the issue, but this time she’s not going to succeed. None of them believes her.

Juan says they know that she and Fer put on a show for them all, but they’re not idiots. (Pardon me while I swallow a snicker and try unsuccessfully not to choke on that ill-timed sip of my copa.) He reminds her that they aren’t forgetting that their sister spent her last few hours in this damned hacienda, either. Gabi becomes bug-eyed impactada. “Yes, we know that she came here to Bernardo Elizondo’s funeral wake, and that you treated her like crap! Like crap! (That's a loose translation but go with me here.) Because of it, she raced out of here eating herself up with rage and sadness! Fernando Escandon raced out to follow her, to kill her, and kill her he did! He killed her! I will only say one thing to you: we know he is alive and we are going to get pay-back! A life for a life!” Gabi screams back at him that if that’s the way it is, he should just go ahead and kill her right then and there. "So, get even and kill me!"

Juan warns her not to tempt him. Gabi’s on a roll, though. “--And then you will kill Sofia from the pain of killing her mother!” Juan shoves it right back at Gabi. “Her mother? Are you referring to Eva? Because YOU certainly aren’t her mother! Eva is her mother and it’s only because I love and respect her that I haven’t told her. I am warning you: soon enough Justice is going to catch up to you --and we are going to make sure of that ourselves!” Gabi plays the anger card again and screams at them to get out of her house because they’re driving her crazy. Oscar sneers, “Ha! You’re already crazy.” He turns to the others and says, “Let’s go.” Juan looks her dead in the eye and warns her again as he turns to leave, “Very soon!” Now Gabi starts mumbling over and over (as the director hits us over the head with the symbolism) and she backs herself into one of the corners of her, now, very confining little office. "Fernando was right! They’re closing in on us! They’re closing in on us!”

After dinner, Quintina and her quasi-Chippendale wanna-be’s shake their pantied patooties in a private show for the new business associate and his wife. (Creepy. Very creepy –and really ba-a-a-d choreography…. FF>>)

The Reyes’s return home. Juan’s bugged that Feo hasn’t shown up anywhere yet. Franco wonders if he could have split, but Juan says no way since the leech is stuck like glue to Gabriela Elizondo because she’s his gravy-train. Besides, he says, Feo’s not going to give up his main objective which is to kill them all. They decide it’s best to get the women and bring them back to the hacienda right away and so they head back into town for them.

Back at the ghoul-shed, Feo swears he’ll make sure that neither the Reyes’ nor Sofia will be able to live happily ever after.

Franco is again watching over Sarita who is now sound asleep in hopes of recovering from the knock to her noggin. Totally ignoring the fact that the love of his life is in definite need of some major recovery Z-z’s, Franco is so moved by his love that the urge to sing overcomes him. He belts out another ballad, complete with magical elf orchestral accompaniment. Thankfully, the drugs the doc gave Sarita are damned good ones, and she manages to sleep through the ruckous this time. (Viewerville is not so fortunate, but it has learned to appreciate modern technology and that eighth wonder of the world, the FF>> button.)

Morning once again returns to Cd. Serdán and Gabi shows up bright and early at the church to throw off suspicions about her and Fer plotting to do in her daughters. Padre Tadeo doesn’t believe that she really is concerned at all about Sarita. She shouts back at him that of course she is, as much as she would be for her other daughter, Jimena. Tadeo says it wouldn’t seem so from the way she treats them. He adds that he cannot understand how she continues to prefer Fernando to them. She tries shouting him down and insists that Fer is dead, but he interrupts her before she can finish her sentence. “He’s alive! Alive!” She stops in mid-scream. “--Enough already! Everything has its limits and mine were reached quite a while ago!”

Padre Tadeo then angrily reminds Gabi that she’s been excommunicated and wonders what she’s doing there in the house of God. She doesn’t answer so he reminds her that he’s obliged to beg her to repent. She won’t and howls at him that he’s never to set foot in her house again and says that she’ll do likewise. She storms out and heads over to the clinic to see Sarita.

A few minutes later Gabi enters the clinic, dressed in her black leather trench coat like a Nazi SS officer, as the music’s crescendo reminiscently rises like something out of some B&W ‘50’s Z-rated horror flick. (Viewerville eagerly waits to see if the cross on the wall behind her spins around like a compass and ends upside down ala The Exorcist. --I think pea soup sales just took a dive in Méjico). She stands there looking at Sarita and can’t understand why she doesn’t feel a thing for her daughters. Gabi then sits down on the bed and tries to wake her. Sarita opens her eyes and remembers Fer and Mama’s conversation in the bungalow and Mama begging, “Don’t go, Fernando!” Sarita blurts out, “It was you with Fernando in the bungalow the night I was attacked! It was you! It was your voice! It was you!” Gabi keeps denying it and screams in frustration that Sarita is a wicked, mean daughter, but Sarita won’t stop insisting it was her. Gabi gives up and races out of the clinic, leaving poor Sarita heartbroken. “It was her….” Sarita whimpers.

A while later Sarita tells Jimena what happened during Mama’s visit. Jimena is tearfully impactada and says it’s difficult to believe that of Mama but then, she also knows her sister doesn’t lie about things, either. They’re both heartbroken because, as Sarita acknowledges, the ugly truth is that Mama really doesn’t love any of them at all.

At the same time, the Reyes’s are galloping along one of the back-roads into town when they spy Fermin walking along in the same direction. They surround him and force him to stop. Juan starts in on him. “Just where are YOU going, you devil? Are you planning on fooling Padre Tadeo again?” Fermin says no, just the reverse. It’s true he was a coward, but no longer. He’s going back to give his statement and to give up all the goodies on Fer. He’s telling the authorities about the murders Fer committed and will admit he kept mum about them all, beginning with the murders of Right-armando and Rosario. The brothers are share-a-stare impactado.

Sofia now pays a visit to Padre Tadeo at the church and tells him that she suspects what happened to Sarita was meant for her, and that Mama and Fernando were in cahoots together in planning it. He tells her that the time has come for her to demand The Truth.

A bit later, Gabi is coming down the back stairs of the Double E and thinking to herself that with the money from the sale of the hacienda and what she has in her personal account she and Fer can live well and far, far away from the long arm of the law. She’s lost in thought when Sofia shows up and confronts her. Sofia says she wants to know exactly what happened in the bungalow the other night. Gabi, her usual snippy self, says Fernando attacked Sarita and that’s all there is to know. Sofia says, au contraire ma mère (in Spanish, of course). Fer attacked Sarita by mistake and the one he really wanted to hurt was her; that the worst of it is that Mama agreed to it. Gabi tries to deflect again. “Are you accusing ME?” Sofia says yes, and what’s more, they even wanted to hurt her, maybe even to kill her!

Gabi plays the incredulously insulted mother card. “How could you say something like that? You, my very own daughter! –Oh, but now I understand everything! It was you who put those crazy ideas into Sarita’s head and forced her to accuse me! YOU are the one who has preached to your sisters, not the other way around and, as always, the rotten apple spoils the barrel.” Slowfia denies it sweetly, and continues to eat her favorite: humble pie. Mama launches into another tirade ASAP. “Of course it’s true and you and your sisters agreed to single me out and undoubtedly would enjoy seeing me die behind bars!”

Gabi starts to walk away but Sofia isn’t quite finished yet. “Enough with the emotional blackmail, all ready! I didn’t say a thing to Sarita. I came here to say that you were the one who sent me straight to the bungalow. If it weren’t for Rosendo, I am sure that Fernando would have killed me!” Gabi changes tactics and starts with the crocodile tears. “Where do you get this foolishness? The only reason I sent you is because you insisted on finding out what happened to Root! How was I supposed to know that Fernando was alive and hiding out there in the bungalow?” (Damn! I’ve got the pattern down pat in ten months. Slowfia’s lived with this b!tch for two decades and she still can’t see past this pile of maternal bull-puckey.) Gabi starts to walk off again, and again Sofia stops her. “I just came from speaking to Padre Tadeo. He told me it’s time to demand The Truth, Mama. That’s precisely what I’ve come for. Why do you hate me so much and why would you rather become a murderer-- in order to see me killed off?”

Gabi lets fly with another signature lollapalooza slap and nearly knocks Sofia over. She screams about how utterly wicked she is. (Sofia checks to see if her teeth are all still there.) “How could you speak to your mother that way???” Sofia makes the mistake of actually trying to smart back. “It’s YOU who’s forgotten that I am your daughter.” Gabi whips around and raises her arm for round two. Eva steps out of nowhere to get in between the two of them and takes the blow for Sofia at the last instant. Eva then takes the back of her hand and whaps Gabriela a good one on the jaw, not once, but twice --just for good measure. “Don’t you dare! Don’t touch my daughter again! Don’t. Touch. My. Daughter. Again!”

Slowfia, the eternally confused, cannot understand the meaning of what she just heard. “Eva! What are you saying?” “—The truth, the truth that I should have told you as soon as I learned it. Come on. I’m going to tell you. Let’s go.” Gabi tries to stop them. “Eva, shut up!” Eva refuses. “NO! Never again will I ‘shut up’! I want everyone to know, beginning with my daughter.” To Slowfia: “Sofia, you are not this…this … woman’s daughter. (Telenovela rules forbid Eva from actually using cuss words.) You are my daughter. You are the daughter I’ve been looking for my whole life long. Yes, you are my daughter, my real daughter. My really, real daughter!” Sofia is knock-me-over-with-a-feather-impactada and can only stare as Eva’s words ricochet around in her brain. “Yes, you are my daughter, my real daughter. My really, real daughter!”

Doña Bárbara - Tues. Feb. 11- Marisela goes to a barbecue, climbs a tree and hires a lawyer

Marisela tells DB that she has come to claim the hacienda that DB offered her on her birthday. "You refused it," says DB. "Well, I want it now," replies Marisela and reminds DB that she signed the property deed transfer. All Marisela has to do is sign it to complete the transaction. DB asks if Marisela is crazy. DB is the same Doña as ever. Marisela says that she isn't afraid.

Santos is horrified that Cecilia let Marisela go to El Miedo. Cecilia says that Marisela does what she wants to and Santos should not follow her to El Miedo. Santos says that he has a bad feeling about what might be happening there.

Los Mondragon put poison in the the drinking place of Don Encarnación's cattle.

DB says that Marisela must have forgotten about the fact that she killed Meléndez. Marisela says that she didn't kill Meléndez. She pushed him to keep him from killing DB but she doesn't know if he died then or later. DB convinced her to leave the place. Marisela says that now that her father is dead, she doesn't care if she goes to jail. She has no problem in going to the police with DB and explaining the whole thing. She thinks DB won't come out of it so well because she has many things to explain and Marisela will end up with La Barquereña anyway.

Federica tells Pajarote and María Nieves that Bartolo can't "turn mattresses." The two vaqueros pay her to let him sleep it off and find out if he is 'strange' or not.

The terneras want to do something to celebrate Genoveva's birthday but she doesn't like parties. They decide to call Marisela and see if she has any ideas.

Santos comes to El Miedo and is greeted by Melquíades.

DB tells Marisela that what is her is hers and no one will take it away. If Marisela thought that DB would run away in fear from her, she was wrong. Marisela says she just came to tell DB her plans. DB says that it is time to strip off their masks. "You have come because of him," says DB, You saw him in the Capital and you have followed after him like the bitch in heat (perra en celo) that you are. Say it. You are here because you are in love with my man."

Pajarote's heart melts when he sees Genoveva with Gervasia's baby. All the ternera couples leave the patio and MN and Pajarote are alone.

Marisela tells DB that she has not come because of Santos. She has spent the last year getting rid of her dreams. She has come only to do justice for her father. "Lies," says DB, "you continue to be in love with him. You want to humiliate me by taking what is mine. Understand me, you won't end up with my hacienda or my man." "Doña," says Marisela, "don't you get tired of being the way you are (no se cansa de ser usted)?

Melquíades tells Santos that the takes of his master (ama) wherever, whenever and against whomever threatens her. He says that whoever harms DB is harming him and he will repay that harm with blood. Santos says that he isn't afraid. He dares Melquíades to finish what he wants to do with his blowgun. Melquíades replies that someday DB will give him the order and he'll be very happy to follow it.

DB asks why Marisela is looking at her like that. Marisels says that DB must feel very unhappy and alone. She says that DB's house is sad and dark and she is falling into it. DB tells Marisela not to feel sorry for her. Marisela says that she can't help it. DB is her mother in spite of all her meanness. She repeats to DB that she did not come back to get Santos. She came for justice. She says that she will see DB in court.

Pajarote marvels at how strange women are. He tells MN that Genoveva, for example, is unpleasant and bad tempered but when she looks at a baby or makes old Melesio laugh, she is pretty. MN tells Pajarote his 'fruit' theory of women. Some women, like Altagracia, are provocative. When you see them, you want to take a bite. They are round and delicious like an apple. Other women, like Genoveva, are like pineapples - prickly and unfriendly on the outside but sweet and delicious on the inside.

The next morning Melquíades tells DB that Santos was at El Miedo last night waiting outside. He followed Marisela when she left but didn't speak to her and she didn't know he was there. "It was as if he was protecting her from you," says Melquíades.

Genoveva repeats to the terneras that she does not want a party for her birthday. She leaves. Marisela says that Genoveva never said that she didn't want a barbecue down by the poza. Everyone thinks this is a great idea.

Pajarote comes to get Federica's report on Bartolo. She says that he is an expert in turning mattresses right side up and upside down.

DB tells Eustaquia that Marisela is capable of taking Santos away from her.

Santos introduces Andrés to Marisela as her lawyer for the litigation with DB. Marisela tells Santos not to interfere in her decisions but she ends up hiring Andrés.

Marisela comes into the bar to invite the vaqueros and Santos to the barbecue.

While Mujiquita is trying to get the name of the head of the corporation he represents out of Fausto, Andrés come in and files the papers to start the process to make legal the cession of the property known as El Miedo from DB to Marisela.

Marisela brings bathing suits for Genoveva and Cecilia to the barbecue and insists that they put them on. Everyone goes swimming.

After Andrés has left, Mujiquita expresses fear for what will happen when DB finds out about this.

Bartolo comes to the barbecue. Pajarote spikes the fruit juice he is going to give him but Genoveva asks for it instead.

Santos comes to sit by Marisela at the barbecue. She asks if he has any remorse for being here, looking at her that way knowing that he was with DB in this poza so many times. Santos gives the familiar, 'that was in the past,' response. Marisela replies that was what he said about Luisana when he got involved with DB. Santos asks why she is attacking him and she replies that she is only speaking the truth. She leaves saying that he makes her sick. Santos tells himself that at least she feels something for him - hate is an emotion. He wonders if it is true that hate is only a step from love.

Mujiquita comes to see DB. He says that he has good news and bad news. She asks for the good news. He says that he has learned the name of the head of the corporation Fausto represents but DB does not recognize it.

At the barbecue Antonio stares at Cecilia in her teeny white bikini (no stretch marks and a nice flat belly after the baby).

Cecilia decides to leave. Antonio asks her to leave Toñito with him and Lucía. Cecilia agrees.

Mujiquita tells DB that the bad news is that Andrés has formally made a demand for the restitution of her hacienda to Marisela. DB curses and says, "She did it, the wretch did it."

DE hears about the death of his cattle.

El Sapo is happy to hear that DB and Marisela are fighting for an hacienda. He says that his is good for their plan.

At the barbecue, Marisela takes a dare to climb a tree.

A drunk Genoveva makes nice with Pajarote. She asks him to kiss her. They kiss.

Marisela climbs the tree and falls on top of Santos. At this moment, DB arrives.

Cuidado Thursday February 12, 2009: The truth, the half truth and nothing but the no truth

Impactados galore: Ed tells the courtroom folks that Viv wasn’t pregnant. Do you know what you’re saying? they say. Yup, he says and I can prove it.

Omar isn’t anguished telling JM about those lovely days with Lirio, in fact he looks blissful. JM not so much. JM says stop! I’m going to tell you the truth about her. She doesn’t love you the way you think. She’s with another man. She just plays around with men’s feelings. NO! says Omar. How can you talk that way about somebody you don’t even know? Show some respect! If you insult her, you insult me.

JM says but she’s with Amador. Omar says I know, but he doesn’t deserve her and I’m going to put him out of the picture.

At the apartment, Amador is flopped on the couch and Mari is looking nervously out the window. She tells him that JM came last night. She tells him about his and Omar’s friendship and how JM knows she had a baby and thinks it’s his. She says she told a big wonking lie that the baby was his (Amador’s). The cellos grumble a bit, but Amador smiles.

Ed comes out from the hearing and tells JM mission accomplished. He takes off and JM is called in to testify. The prosecution asks him if he was happy in his marriage.

Amador laughs over Mari’s lie. He says I’m not even a good daddy to my own baby. That Dr. Ed thinks he’s going to take it on, but he’s wrong. Mari says you won’t tell JM the baby is his, promise? Amador puffs his pipe and relishes the situation. Okay, he says. What’s the squirt’s name? Mari says he’s named after JM, but JM doesn’t deserve that. He hasn’t been baptized yet, so maybe I’ll pick another name.

How about Amador? Mari scoffs and they toss around a few names. Amador comments that she has two guys crazy in love with her. She says she doesn’t love one, though he deserves it, and the other isn’t hers - even though he said he’d love her all his life, he’s always with some other woman.

The judge is visiting Ceci, who is having her hospital lunch. She asks why he’s so quiet. He says does she miss food at home? She says I don’t care, I don’t have much appetite – are you eating well? He says he’s not eating much either. She says what happened that you don’t want to tell me about? The judge says he spoke to Stef (Ceci rolls her eyes) about Marichuy. Ceci says you know I want to bring her to us. The judge says is it true that if you had to choose between us, you’d choose her?

JM tells the court people that he wasn’t happy with Viv – he wanted to make a family and a home, she wanted to just have fun. They ask if he ever mentioned divorce and he says yes. So you planned her murder? JM says no. Is Blanca in love with you? JM says she was very supportive of me. The lawyer yells she’s a very timid woman, and with your big psych-guy (read: evil) brain, you could easily manipulate her, turning into your murder weapon. She may have done the act, but it was your mind controlling her. (We have noted the probable dimensions of JM’s brain and it wouldn’t be able even to get her little toe to twitch, but his lawyer wisely doesn’t pursue that line of defense.)

Blanca starts squealing no, he had nothing to do with it. I did it! I’m guilty! Two guards hold her arms. Silence! the lawyer thunders, but she keeps squealing that it was her and her alone.

Ceci says it’s too bad Stef has so much influence over you and now you’re putting me in a position that shouldn’t even exist. You know I’ve always loved and respected you. Me too, says the judge. Who would you choose? Ceci says you have always received my unconditional love. The love for a husband and the love for a child are two separate things. You know how guilty I feel about having abandoned her. The thing is, you are her father and you too should want to accept and love her. The judge rehashes Mari’s crimes, her attitude, her lack of education. That’s my daughter! says Ceci and it hurts me when you talk only of her misdeeds.

Now JM is in weepy Blanca’s cell, trying to calm her. He repeats that he feels responsible for what happened (Viv’s murder). Blanca says Ivette would have killed him too. He promises he will rid Blanca of her evil twin. He presses his palm to her forehead and says fuera! fuera! Okay, he doesn’t, but he should have. They both are relieved that a fetus wasn’t killed after all. JM’s lawyer comes and asks if Blanca can continue, or do they need to recess until tomorrow? Blanca says she’s okay now. The lawyer leaves and JM promises him he’s going to fight for her, because now he needs her. How many men would give a speech like that with their hands on their hips?

Ceci retells how she almost died giving birth, etc., how guilty, etc. The judge tenderly tells her to stop, he just wants her to understand that Mari’s not worth it and he begs her to stop focusing on her.

Mari tells Cande about Amador saying it was okay that to say the baby was his. He was just concerned that JM might come after him. Cande says I don’t agree with your approach, but these are your choices. I don’t like them, though.

Now the lawyer’s grilling JM some more. He states that Blanca was a nanny, nothing else. Oh yeah? says the prosecution. How come you went out with her, hung out in bars with her, went to her apartment, huh? That was Ivette says JM. The prosecutor scoffs at the idea of split personality.

JM pops off, saying neither the prosecution nor any other person in the room has any qualifications or scientific knowledge to evaluate split personality. He tells them as a doctor, I’m going to prove that Blanca is innocent. JM’s lawyer smiles.

Mari is coming out of the apartment (or church, I can’t tell) and uh oh, Omar is there waiting. Hola she says. I want to talk to you says Omar.

Stef’s on the phone with Rocio discussing the hearing. By the way, says Stef, do you still have your houseguest? Rocio says he’s still here, and he found the person he’s looking for. We see the gears turn in Stef’s mind.

The prosecutor says how can we believe your testimony about Blanca’s mental health when you are here being accused? JM says that whole murder plan story was made up by Onelia. The two get in a shouting match and the judge tells them to behave. JM’s lawyer says JM has the right to have his say. The judge says okay. JM gets started.

Mari says to Leo that she didn’t think he’d come around again, but she’s nice with him this time. He says she’s worth fighting for. She says I told you I don’t love you the way you deserve. Omar says yeah, but I can tell you don’t love your husband Amador … do you? Mari doesn’t answer. I can tell, says Omar. Maybe you loved him once, but you don’t love him now. Mari says maybe it’s better not to talk about it. Omar asks why did you come back to him? You told me you had no legal ties to him. Is it because he’s the father? Are you planning to marry him? Tell me, do you love him?

JM makes a brief speech about split personality two separate people blah blah, Blanca sweet, Yvette evil blah blah. He wraps up saying that weeping woman you see is innocent, set her free.

Rocio, who is wearing some odd gray top that looks like she’s wrapped in a sheet, is sitting on the foyer stairs. Onelia comes down and goes on about the trial, JM, Blanca and the poor lost fetus. Nothing new here – maybe there is some clause in the actresses’s contract that she gets X number of scenes and so they injected one here.

The prosecution scoffs and JM goes on some more about multiple personalities. Don’t make me laugh, says the lawyer. It’s not my intention to amuse you says JM who blows some more psych smoke.

Omar says Amador’s not a worthy type and Mari shouldn’t lower herself. He says you deserve an upright man, who truly loves you. You sold me, Omar! Leave me and come back to the hacienda with me, he says. Mari says this is making me nervous. Omar says just say one word. Say yes, and we’ll grab your stuff and go back to the hacienda.

The trial judge wants to know if when one personality does something, the other doesn’t know? Doesn’t this guy ever watch old B flicks? The prosecution says are we actually going to consider his opinion? JM says it’s not an opinion, it’s medical fact – I have a lot of studies done by leading doctors. He pulls some thick manila folders from his briefcase.

JM’s lawyer takes the stack and offers it to the judge like it’s a velvet pillow with a ring on it. The judge takes it. JM’s lawyer says we request that an expert in these matters be brought in. Okay, says the judge. The prosecution lawyer subsides, tail between his legs. JM’s lawyer and JM share a smug smile. Blanca smiles big too.

Mari says no to Omar and says there are things she just doesn’t want to say. Omar says I’m not giving up, even though you say no, and even though JM tells me to forget you and go home. Mari brightens – he said that? Omar says he did, even while he himself is fighting for the woman he loves… (Mari smiles to herself) Blanca Silva. Mari’s face falls. Omar says he’s in court right now fighting for her, to save the woman he loves.

JM and Omar meet up at the castle. JM reports that the hearing went very well. Omar says he has good news too.

Meantime, Mari comes home and talks to Cande. She tells her about her chat with Omar and says he says the nicest things. He wants me to leave my life here and return to the hacienda. The hacienda theme music plays in the background. Cande likes this turn of events and agrees with Omar. Mari says what should I do?

Omar tells JM he talked to Lirio and thinks he may have convinced her. JM says you talked to her? Have you no dignity? Omar says how is it undignified to talk nicely to her to convince her to come back to the hacienda? Give it up, says JM, forget her. Omar says how can your reproach me when you’re in court fighting for Blanca? JM says Lirio’s with another man and has a child with him. Omar says she made a mistake and I’m going to help her out of it. How is it worse to make a mistake about a man than to commit a murder?

Mari asks Cande again what to do and Cande says it’s all so complicated. You know I was in favor of your marrying Omar – he has loved you from the git-go. Mari says my decisions are for my son. There’s JM who loves another woman, then there’s Alamdor who wants me to have fame and fortune (Cande holds her nose) and finally there’s Omar, who offers me and my son security and is the only one who truly loves me.

Cande says you shouldn’t feel pressed to decide right away. So what did you decide? Mari says I’m asking you! Put yourself in my position. Cande moves Mari from where she’s standing and stands in her place. Cande thinks and says I don’t know. What do you think?

Omar says maybe we’re a bit tense. But when brothers argue, it doesn’t affect their relationship, right? JM has his back turned and of course has his hands on his hips.

Judge Velarde drops in. He’s introduced to Omar and JM asks after Ceci. The judge brings up her visit to Mari which precipitated the accident. Omar is surprised. JM says yes, my former wife. The judge says he and Ceci are her parents. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, Omar decides to go on up and leave them. The judge asks about JM’s case and JM says the double personality defense seems to have picked up steam.

People are streaming into the theater. Mari, in costume in her dressing room, is listening to Amador who is telling about Blanca’s split personality. He thinks it would make a great piece for Mari to play – angel by day, devil by night. She says she doesn’t want to play Blanca. Amador laughs that she’s jealous.

Amador, who does watch movies, tells Mari about a film called The Woman of Seven Moons where a woman had split personality. He asks what JM’s big double trouble love is called. Mari says she doesn’t know but finally she says Blanca Silva and sticks her tongue out at Amador. Amador says it looks like JM will get off and that Blanca wept emotionally. Mari says how do you know, and he says JM told Judge Velarde who told Stef who told me. We had quite a long chat.

Stef said the judge would have sprung JM by now if he’d had the case. Mari says and he was so cold with me! Amador goes on some more about how JM is trying to free Blanca, and how Mari can help him by leaving him alone and letting him marry Blanca.

Seems like Amador’s way of preparing Mari to go onstage is to yell at her like he did on opening night, or to pour salt into her wounds as he’s doing tonight. She swats him on his way out of her dressing room.

Onelia gets another scene. She comes into JM’s room and here we go again with “mi pobre hija” and so forth. JM tells her that Viv wasn’t pregnant and maybe it just wasn’t a mistake, but a lie.

Rocio is visiting Ceci who’s back home at castle Velarde, looking somewhat the worse for wear. Now I see Rocio’s top better and it’s something tight (natch) with grey ribbons braided all over the front. It’s modest, but her ankle strap super high heels say do me. Since she’s young and pure, we must assume she’s shoe deaf. And the lacy short short pink skirt is talkin’ too.

Anyway, back to the visit. Ceci tells her that she fought to live. Rocio thinks that’s great. Ceci says can you help me? Rocio is all about doing good deeds, so she’s eager. Ceci wants her to help her get close to Mari. Rocio says she doesn’t know where she lives, but she can find out.

Avances: Omar says something to Mari I can’t understand and she says no puede ser! Blanca, now in the actual courtroom, turns into Ivette, grabs a guard’s gun and shoots JM a few times.

Las Tontas, Thurs 2/12 - A grave secret is revealed

Santi tells Marissa that he can't marry her because he was with Paulina last night...in the bed. He'll understand if Marissa wants to break it off with him. Heh, nice try but it'll take more than a little infidelity to get rid of Marissa. She puts his hand on her big tummy, the best weapon in her arsenal, and tells him she'll help him bury his love for Pau.

Candy tells Meño that after all these years when she saw Pat and Alicia together she couldn't tell them what she felt and she doesn't know how she feels about Patricio.

A huge bouquet is delivered to Marissa, "With love, Santiago". She dashes it to the floor; does he think flowers will make up for his deceit? Raul shows up and she cries about Santi doing it with his ex. Raul tells her Santi's a womanizer, a cynic (in the sense that he's self-centered), and he'll never change. Raul disses Santi and Marissa defends him, he's trying to change, he was truthful. "Yes he loves me" she insists in the way that people do when they want to believe a lie.

Patricio's assistant bursts into Pat's office to tell him there is trouble at the warehouse. Pat guiltily covers his laptop but then jumps up and just leaves it on his desk. If I were the assistant I would be right over there looking for that porno. As we might have suspected, Alicia is ripping up pictures of the Aztec Princess with Caucasian Features. Pato yells at her that she's crazy. Ya think? He calls Don Elias to order more pictures and stalks out leaving Alicia alone in the warehouse to destroy more art. Not particularly bright, our Patricio.

Another flower delivery, this time for Chayo. They are delivered while Lalo is on the phone planning a night of delight and cheating with his amante. The flowers put a damper on his ardour however, and he reads the card, "Rosario, when I met you my life took on new meaning". The delivery boy beats a hasty retreat but out in the hall a laughing Candy tips him for a job well done. Lalo took the bait, mission accomplished.

Inside the apartment Lalo calls his amante to tell her he can't make it, there's been an emergency. Now who could have sent those damn flowers?

Candy is incredulous when Marissa tells her Santi boinked his ex and she forgave him. Mari tells her that Santi needs help and she won't let that woman impede her wedding. Candy suggests she go to therapy.

Patricio's dad arrives for a surprise visit. He's come alone and Pat's mom doesn't know. He wants to give Patricio a key to a safe deposit box. Pat must guard it jealously because the box contains documents that will shame dad and hurt mom. Pat must open the box if anything happens to dad. "You will find the documents, but also you will find an envelope with precise indications of what to do." I suppose this means Arturo will die soon. Hurry up.

Candy is at Santi's office reading him the riot act for bedding his ex, she says he needs therapy because he's a sexopath. He tells her he wants to show her something he wrote when he was 15. She agrees to go with the sexopath. Who needs therapy?

Commercial for Mañana es Para Siempre, el gran estreno Lunes 23!

Santi wants to show Candy a tree. He carved his initial into it when he arrived in Guadalajara and he swore he would carve the initial of the love of his life there too. He's certain that initial is a "C". He proceeds to dig up a wooden box (El Cofre?! Sorry that's from another TN) that he buried there for the tree to guard in case he lost his way. In the box is a saying, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also", it's something that Jesus said. (One of my favorite biblical quotes by the way.) He tells her he lost his direction and he believes that Candy can help him find his heart. He moves in for the kiss.

Over at the big house mommy dearest Pau insults Rocio's clothes. Who bought the horrid things? Granny? Well she has bad taste. Granny overhears and walks downstairs for the smackdown. Rocio is excused and the battle begins. Pau insists she's there for her daughter. Isabel says don't bother thanking me for all I did for Rocio, I did it for love and what you did was very bad. Pau shrieks she's Rocio's mom whether Isa likes it or not! Oh really, asks Isa, what's Rocio's favorite song? Does Pau know which doll she likes the best? What's her doggie's name? To give birth is easy, to be a mother is another thing entirely. Pau is speechless. Well played Grandma!

Surprise, Candy pushes Santi away. He's engaged to Marissa, he slept with his ex, he's all messed up. She admits she feels things when she's with Santi but she also feels things for Patricio who is her husband and the father of her child. Santi tells Candy he doesn't want to lie anymore. He'll be a good father to Marissa's baby but he loves Candy, he wants to marry Candy. "It's too late Santiago." she sadly replies. He looks like his heart is breaking.

Alicia's in a royal snit. She recalls Pat saying he'll leave her if she rips up any more pictures. She rips another picture. She recalls when Santi was hiding Candy at the soccer field. She has an idea and jumps in her car with the remaining picture. She symbolically runs over the torn Aztec Princess as she drives away.

Beto and Chava try to work out how they can be brothers if they have one father but two different mothers. They soon tire of these details and get back to playing.

Isabel finds Rocio in her room throwing all her "ugly" clothes and shoes in a pile.

Patricio stares at the key to his father's shame.

Hortensia tells Santi that Pat's wife is in the waiting room. Santi tells her she must NOT let Alicia in, tell her he's busy all day, tell her...Alicia interrupts and Santi loudly scolds Hortensia for keeping Alicia waiting. Al tells him she's come because she feels Santi can help her. She's very observant and she's observed that there is something between him and Candy, no? Santi insists they're just friends. "What a load of bull" says Al. She tells him she's fighting for her marriage and that Santi should fight for Candy, they'll be allies, OK? No, insists Santi. "Well then you won't mind that Patricio is selling her picture all over the place. It's the most perfect way for him to show his love for her. Have a nice day!"

Candy is surprised by a visit from her father in law the odious Arturo. He heard she was alive but he couldn't believe it. He starts insulting her but they are interrupted by Chava and Gregoria. Greg the blabbermouth blurts out "he's your grandson!" Arturo answers he doesn't have time to meet a new grandson, he's come to tell Candy what he thinks of her. Gregoria stops him and the adults glare at each other in impacted silence.

Post commercial Arturo's still at the door and Candy's not backing down. She reminds him that his alcoholism and mistreatment ruined his son, she didn't. He tells her there is no cure for the past, but she can help the future by staying away from Pat, blah blah blah. He's old and needs for Pat to return to the DF to take over the business. She'd better steer clear of Pat or else! Bonus points for Candy for standing up to that creep.

After he leaves Candy's first thoughts are of Chava. Gregoria said he asked why his grandpa doesn't love him and Greg didn't know what to say. Candy hugs Chava and tells him that Arturo is mad at Candy, not Chava. Chava brings up the one dad two moms subject and Candy explains that he and Beto are half brothers. Chava is curious which half of him is Beto's brother.

Arturo glares at Candy's picture and recalls her words that his humiliations ruined Pat's life. He repeats there's no cure for the past and flashes back to a suitcase full of money. In the flashback he tells Candy's dad Clemente to deliver it but this time he's coming along. He wants Clemente to tell that piece of trash that this is the last payment, if he continues blackmailing Arturo he'll kill him. Patricio interrupts these disagreeable thoughts.

Bulldog-face Marissa visits Raul for another whine session. He recommends she cancel the wedding. She recommends he impregnate Candy.

Arturo tells Patricio what really happened to Candy's dad. They went to deliver the blackmail money and when Clemente handed the suitcase off the two thugs pulled their guns. Clemente had a heart attack and died. Arturo didn't want to call anyone because he was afraid. Aha! So Candy didn't kill her dad, Arturo did! Last night Art had a bad pain in his chest and he was afraid again. Now he regrets many things, including being a complete jerk to Pat's mom.

Models? Us?? Sven and Ole are impactados at Candy's plan. Sven's shirt looks like he was the victim of a blueberry-eating albatross. Sven says No! Ole says Yes because he can never say No to Candy. Sven waxes eloquent that he is already pure romantic Galician, the result of years invested in girl-watching. His monologue about his absolute perfectness is interrupted by a phone call.

Who needs therapy? It's Alicia and she's playing Chopin's Funeral March for Candy. "This is the music you're going to hear on the day of my funeral, little sister, unless you leave Patricio in peace." Oops, Pat walks in and hears Al's little performance. "Are you crazy or what?" She jumps up and says sure she's crazy, but so is he for loving a woman who left him, lied to him, betrayed him. She tells him he doesn't know what she's capable of if he leaves her. They glare at each other.

Candy complains to her family that she's unable to find a model for her class. Chava volunteers but he's too young. Gregoria volunteers and says she used to be a model in Zapopan. After much snickering at the table Candy says it needs to be a young businessman, when she needs a woman she'll call Gregoria. Greg snips that when Candy needs a woman she can call Meño. Ha ha that was so funny I forgot to laugh.

Pat yells at Soledad's door but she refuses to open the bars to let him in. This is her house not his and he can't come over whenever he wants. They need to come to an agreement about arranging a visitation schedule.

Over at the Institute Santi wants to talk to Candy about her crazy sister. They walk in on Marissa talking to her big belly and recording herself. Do they want to say anything to her child? Santi balks but Candy nods that he should do it. He tells his baby through the recorder that he loves it and will care for it always.

Candy blabs some crap about the more a woman loves her partner the more she loves her baby and vice versa. Santi points out that sometimes partners divorce but they still profoundly love their child. Candy agrees and says this only proves she knows nothing about love. She tries to leave but Marissa forces her to talk to the baby.

Candy stares at Santi and tells the baby that it's very lucky because its mom and dad love it very much. She leaves the room in tears, Marissa is happy, Santiago is unenthused and trapped.

Pat acts all pathetic and hurt, is Soledad crazy? Sole says she was, she was stupid because she thought Pat was fighting with his wife and Candy was out. "I never fooled you" he insists. "You were alone, I was alone, I was clear with you and I never made promises, I'm very fond of you." She tells him just like he's fond of all women. He insists it's different with Candy, it was always different with Candy and he doesn't want to lose her again. He adores his son and needs him. Beto runs up and Soledad tells Beto his father has to leave; father and son sadly say goodbye. I don't believe in using children to make a point but I think it's a good idea for Soledad to set up guidelines. Too bad she probably won't follow them.

Candy staggers into the conference room and cries on Ceci's shoulder. Ceci kisses Candy's head and Candy jumps up like she's been electrocuted. She glares at Ceci with eyes that accuse.

Mañana: Santi is excited to see the ultrasound of his baby and he's sure it's a son.
