El Talismán #23 Fri 3/2/12 Friday the Rabbi Went Slumming (With Apologies to Harry Kemelman)
If Thursday was ham on wry, (and it was), then this Friday is pure spam. Which is unfortunate. Because it is precisely today that Rabbi Jacob Sacerdote joins us for the first time. (Hide the pork products and let’s wrap it up before sundown.)
Popularly known in the valley as the Tallis Man because of his distinctive avocado-colored tallis, or prayer shawl, Rabbi Jacob will comment on the text from time to time when the regular go-to goy, Padre Serafin, is out blessing a Suburu and we need moral guidance fast.
Let’s get started on our trip to nowhere, shall we?
It’s a new day at el tal Talismán
La tal Camila is marking her territory. La tal LuCrazy is mincing around, still wearing the skimpy hospital gown whose pale pink color highlights the bruises on her surly face.
It’s the Pi Man himself who makes the call: Lu gets the guestroom, and Camila will sleep in Pedro’s bedroom.
¡No sean malpensados!
(Get your minds out of the gutter!)
No need to call in the rabbi just yet. Pedro will sleep in Mariana’s bedroom, right next to his own. Tía is handing around the chastity belts.
[Rabbi Jacob: It’s very odd that no one mentions the suicide room. Wasn’t that the master bedroom? Did they seal it off? Or, it’s not, God forbid, “Mariana’s room”? NM: Tonight the writers have forgotten Estegone’s tragic legacy and they expect us to do the same. Rabbi: Mutters under breath: Putzes.]
At AlcaTrash
Gregorio explains (again) that Pancho must watch Gregorio’s back and keep an eye on Antonio and LuCrazier. His reward? When he and Greg are alone – and only then – Pancho can call him daddy.
At The Only Hotel Inn-Fresno™
Armando wants out of El Viral’s scheme to hurt the Negrete girls. He protests the same way he does everything -- feebly, ineffectually. He has a hunch Operation F-Girls will backfire and he’ll be the one who gets effed. Exit Armando. Enter Antonio.
Now Tony pulls El Viral’s strings. He has some work for her:
First, make Camila believe that Pedro killed his wife. And second? Oh, yeah -- he wants daddy dead.
Tracy pops in briefly and unnecessarily tonight. She phones El Tal looking for Panchito. She’s got problems, she tells Domitila.
But unbeknownst to Tracy, Pancho, ever so desperate to please, is still closeted with Pigorio over at AlcaTrash. The Pig says he can’t trust anyone – especially Antonio, now that he knows about his mother’s will. Pancho is hurt. Doesn’t Pigorio trust HIM? Pig makes it clear Pancho will have to earn his trust.
El Viral is sorry she ever got mixed up with Tony and regrets agreeing to poison the Pig’s pills. Can’t they kill him some other way? Nope.
At last, Pancho leaves with a wistful “Hasta luego, Papa” and the Pig is alone in his bullet-pocked office. Not for long though. Doris, particularly drab and sullen this evening, comes in whining about Antonio and his plans to divorce her for la tal Camila.
El Tal
Pedro reminds Camila (again) that he only married Mariana to give her baby his name. When Mariana comes home, her old room will be waiting for her and Pedro will move back into his own bedroom. Even if Camila is still in it. Here he and Camila exchange conspiratorial smiles – oh the fun the 40-year-old virgins will have when Mariana comes home!
LuCrazierandcrazier slithers and hisses in the background. Camila looks smug. I’m the one Pedro loves, you nasty whoring munchkin!
[Rabbi Jacob: This you call a telenovela? These people are meshuga. And wicked. And boring. They keep saying the same thing over and over ...]
Pedro looks at a photo of himself with Mariana and her father. He wonders: ¿Dónde estarás, Mariana? ¿Dónde? (I wonder where Mariana is?)
[NM: Pedro uses the future of probability that often gets translated as “I wonder”. I like to think of it as the “Book of Love Future (♪♪Oh I wonder, wonder, wonder ...♪♪)]
[Rabbi Jacob: Future shmuture. Look for her outside of Fresno, already!]
Pigorio counsels Doris to use her daughters by pitting them against Antonio. [I’m distracted by Doris’s voice. It sounds like it should be in a cartoon. If they dub The Simpsons in Spanish, Doris should play one of Marge’s sisters.]
At California State University Fresno
Flor, momentarily sacada de onda (bummed out) because José seems to have stood her up, brightens when her bespectacled suitor appears. ¿Que onda contigo? (Whassup, dude?), she greets him.
[Rabbi Jacob: What’s with the onda talk?
NM: That’s code for “I’m just a kid.”]
Almost immediately Armando gets a phone call and steps away to talk to ... the other F-sister, Fabi, the one he really likes. Oh this is all too much for Armando. His tiny brain is starting to hurt.
Flor wants to know who called. “My friend, Fabio” he sputters. “¡Qué casualidad!” She has a sister named Fabiola!
At the Hotel, Antonio is still turning the screws on El Viral. Now he peels a few bills from the wad he’s carrying. Something to make her smile he says as he hands her the cash. The catch – she has to convince Camila to leave Pedro.
El Viral is aghast when Antonio tells her Pedro was accused of murdering his wife. He thought she already knew.
[Rabbi Jacob: Didn’t he say that to her earlier this evening?
NM: Yes. Maybe the headband is constricting the blood supply to her brain.]
Anyway, Antonio will get all the old newspaper stories about the trial so El Viral can get to work on Operation Comecocos.
(comecocos = brainwashing, Hombre de Misterio’s gift to El Tal)
More girl talk.
Cami asks LuCrazy:
¿No te cansas de estar de rogona?
(Aren’t you tired of acting like a stalker? rogar: to beg)
You’re the “rogona”, giraffe-girl, snarls Lu.
Here Pedro arrives to escort Camila to “his” bedroom while Tía takes charge of LuCrazier. She shuts the door and Lu and Tía are now alone together in a confined space. Lu’s fake smile fades quickly.
[Rabbi Jacob: Hey! Isn’t there supposed to be a scene right here with the aunt telling off the mean girl? NM: No kidding, Rabbi. Tía’s the one who’s always had LuCrazy’s number.]
Pedro shows Cami his room, the very room she lived in for several days. Four years ago. He has kept it exactly as she left it – a few receipts from Yogurt Fusion, a handful of feathers and a cowgirl belt are now cherished relics -- because it made him feel she was there with him.
Fabiola returns home to AlcaTrash. Alberta gives her the skinny on the Belt Buckle vs the Safe:
Se puso bien canijo el pleito entre Don Gregorio y tu papá.
(The argument between Don G and your dad got pretty bad. canijo: literally small, puny but here it’s almost the opposite – big, nasty. Choose your negative.)
Pfffft. That’s old news to Fabiola.
Alberta adds warily:
A Antonio se le metió el chamuco adentro.
(The devil has taken hold of Antonio.)
The devilish Antonio is right now arranging for a (fake) newspaper story to be (fake?) published. It will make Pedro look guilty and then El Viral can use it to turn Camila against him.
El Viral and Tony are startled by a knock on the door. Surprise! It’s Renato and he has come a-courting. “¿Qué dice la mujer más bella ... “, he begins unctuously. But the sight of the Belt Buckle in full pelvic tilt, dries up his spit for a moment. He bounces back quickly though: “May I ask who the gentleman is?”
[Rabbi Jacob: She’s a good-looking woman but why is she wearing the huge earrings and the stupid headband? NM: It’s a long story, Rabbi. Later.]
Antonio curls his lip.
[Rabbi Jacob: And the schmuck* with the Belt Buckle that ate San Jacinto?]
[NM to reader: *Schmuck is a consummately vulgar Yiddish word meaning, literally, “penis” but used popularly to mean a cross between an “imbécil” and an “infeliz”, ie, a nasty piece of work. Using it here is decidedly unrabbinical and I am starting to doubt my judgment in calling upon Rabbi Jacob for commentary.]
Fabiola doesn’t want to hear any AlcaTrash Talk about her daddy.
But Alberta won’t back down. “If you don’t believe me, look at the bullet holes in the wall of your grandfather’s office!” she says. “Tu papá no es tan bueno como crees.” (Your dad isn’t as good a person as you think.)
Pigorio doesn’t think Doris can turn the girls against Tony. They adore him. But listen. If she’s going to make Tony’s life hell, at least do it intelligently.
Doris defends her intellect staunchly, even pulling out a copy of Elna June’s recent Harlot’s Tale to buttress her claim. “I’m not as dumb as you all think.” She knows how much Antonio loves his daughters. If she turns them against him, he’ll suffer.
Working girls
Geno is showing Sarita some leaves with signs of the plaga. Really? El Tal has the plaga? And if so shouldn’t they be concentrating on it? And not gasping girlishly because Camila is back in the big house? Guess not.
Meanwhile Pedro is telling the boys that because of his big mouth (por bocón), he’ll have to do an Odysseus and the Sirens number. There’s no mast to lash him to, but they’ll have to tie him down to control his animal passions what with Camila right next door to his bedroom. And we all know what a raging beast it is, Pedro’s passion. Yeah.
Back at El Viral’s hotel room, Renato stands, decked in shades of vanilla, holding a single long-stemmed red rose. El V introduces Tony as her daughter’s suitor (pretendiente). Tony toys with El V by telling Renato that her only flaw is that she is a poisoner (una envenenadora) -- she likes to poison her romantic conquests. El V smiles uneasily.
“¿De dónde sacaste eso?” (Where the &*$#* did that come from?) asks Renato, somewhat taken aback.
Answers slick Antonio: She poisons with her charms. And Renato ups the schmaltz when he says he’d love to die poisoned by her charms. “Yup. My dad too” says Tony.
Now El Viral makes it PERFECTLY plain that there’s nothing between her and Pigorio. “You remember, the big doofus at the fiesta? That’s his father.” Renato’s brow clears. He turns to Antonio: So you’re the son of the Pig?
No, says Tony darkly. “The Pig is the father of the Belt Buckle.”
And his parting shot to El Viral:
“Thanks for getting my father’s blood pressure medicine!”
Renato está en la inopia:
(R is clueless – (thanks to Cap’n S for the lovely phrase)
“You got his blood pressure pills?”
The working girls wear latex gloves and have a bunch of test tubes arrayed on a table but all they seem to do is gossip about Camila and Pedro and LuCrazy. Geno hopes Lu’s liver will explode from rage.
[Rabbi Jacob: And may all her teeth fall out except one and may that one give her a toothache.
NM: Rabbi, that’s really inappropriate.
Rabbi Jacob: Oy, sorry, I got carried away. That Geno, she’s a good little actress ...]
Fabiola insists that her father must have fired his gun by accident (sin querer). But if he’s acting weird, it must be because of his new girlfriend, la tal Camila.
Meanwhile, la tal Camila is explaining to her skeptical colleagues – ¡malpensadas! – the details of her chaste sleeping arrangements. Geno and Sarita warn her -- Beware the LuCrazyMonster!
[It is nearly sundown and Rabbi Jacob must leave us. He is clearly shaken by what he has seen today and somewhat ashamed of getting caught in the moment. I fear he may be reluctant to return.]
Hah! LuCrazier’s out of her hospital gown and in tight leather. She’s in full stalker mode, sniffing around Mariana’s room where Pedro will be sleeping. Domitila all but sweeps her out.
Outside, Pedro tells the boys Camila is sleeping in his bedroom. Yuk yuk yuk. “¡No sean malpensados!”
Antonio pulls over his shiny red pick-up and gets a phone update from Lu: Camila is sleeping in Pedro’s bedroom.
“¿Qué? ¡No puede ser!”
Calm down, Antonio – the “writers” are just stuck on this “joke”. Pedro hasn’t lost his virtue.
Right now, Pedro is telling the boys he had no choice – he couldn’t leave LuCrazy at the mercy of the brutal Pigorio or let her wander the streets. He has to find a safe place for her. [I’m thinking she’d get three hots and a cot at Mme. Brigitte’s.]
LuCrazy’s job is to make Pedro and Camila argue. Lu seems to be thinking hard. “Wait a sec,” she says, “have you considered what would happen if Pedro’s wife, Mariana ... “
We don’t get to hear the end of her sentence but whatever it is, it brings an evil smirk to Tony’s lips.
Camila, meanwhile, boasts that she’s not afraid of LuCrazy (Though perhaps she should be. The woman is a bunny boiler, if ever there was one.) The issue is Pedro. She’s not sure she can trust him 100%. She wants to check out his story. Geno says she should just talk to him. And she should do it now, “antes de que Lucrecia meta cizaña” (before Lu sows discord.)
LuCrazy and Tony are still yakking it up on the phone. He tells her about the fake news stories. If they don’t do the trick, plan B is to follow Mariana’s trail. They know Pigorio is behind her disappearance and if he has to, Antonio will do whatever it takes to get the truth out of him.
At AlcaTrash, Doris rants on and the Pig rubs his eyes wearily.
At El Tal, Tía throws up her hands at Pedro and Camila acting like big whiny babies:
¡Ay qué necios son los dos!
(Oh what fools you both are!)
Pedro digs in his heels. The problem is that Camila doesn’t trust him.
Pigorio isn’t feeling so hot. He bellows for Alberta. He wants Pancho to come to his room. He brushes off Doris’s suggestion to call the doctor. He’ll call later. He’s sure it’s those capsules – there’s something in them that doesn’t agree with him.
Love is in the air
El Viral notices the pill bottles are sitting out in plain view. She gasps and hurries to conceal them. Renato approaches her and she jumps when he touches her waist. He doesn’t find find her behavior strange. “You’d be the perfect wife” he purrs.
Flor thinks José looks intelligent in his glasses. She invites him to AlcaTrash to meet the psychos. He’d love to but he er... uh ... promised to visit his brother. Yeah. His twin brother.
Fabiola confesses to Alberta that she can’t think of anything but Armaaaando.
Antonio gaves a guy some money to publish an article saying that Pedro killed his wife. [The guy has no lines but his mother is probably making the ladies in her bridge club watch the DVR of the scene over and over.]
Night falls.
The rabbi has made his way home safely.
The F-sisters are also home and chatting about bullets in the wall and what grandpa Pig might have done to make daddy so mad. Flor mentions that José has a twin. Too bad Fabi already has a boyfriend.
Renato escorts El Viral back to her hotel room after wowing her with a pricey dinner that maxed out his credit card. He needs an infusion of capital now. He must woo faster. The next dinner will be in his apartment, just the three of them: he, she and the check. El Viral is smitten!
Doris and Antonio have another skirmish. “I’m divorcing you, marrying Camila and taking the girls” he snarls. “Da lo por hecho” (Take it as a given, literally ‘give it as done’).
The final scene: the upstairs hallway at El Tal. Pedro tries to kiss Camila goodnight but she holds him off with a smile. She’s afraid they won’t be able to control themselves. [Because they’re ANIMALS! Oh yes!]
As soon as Camila closes her bedroom door, Lu slinks out from her hidey-hole and needles Pedro about getting snubbed by Cami.
Alone in the bedroom, Cami reconsiders. Maybe she was a bit prudish – what’s a little kiss, after all?
She opens her door to rejoin Pedro ... just a second or two after LuCraziest has pulled Pedro onto her face.
Camila gives them the stinkeye. The credits roll before Pedro can say “Déjame explicar ...”
Avances: Pedro kicks LuCrazy out of El Tal and Antonio ramps up the Pedro disinformation campaign.

El Mundo de Telemundo - Discuss among yourselves: Week of March 5
The "where are they now" 10 years later was nice although Zahra and Olga must have portraits getting old in a closet because they looked younger, if anything, than they did 10 years earlier and they were older than everyone else. What happened to Rigoberto?
It's too bad Frigida just disappeared from the story and didn't end up with any punishment for being so horrible. It was also bizarre to see Ana as a happy hausfrau with Titi and grandpa Abelardo but I was right in figuring that Mina wouldn't stick with Mr. Peter for too long.
I guess Mariano just went to prison. He deserved more punishment but he seemed to recognize at the end that his infatuation with Rocío was perverted.
I liked this novela. It was well written and acted and avoided novela clichés. It never got me involved emotionally so that I couldn't wait to see the next episode but neither was I waiting impatiently for it to end.
Looking forward to the start of Corazón Valiente on Tuesday.
Over to you.

La Que No Podía Amar #47 Thursday 3/1/12 The Woman Who Couldn't Get a Man to Stick With Her Despite a Perpetually Bared Midriff
Ana Paula lets Rosaura know that she's seen Gustavo and she knows he's alive. Rosaura turns on the waterworks and begs for forgiveness, but AP's having none of it! She only married Rogelio because she knew she'd never be able to love anyone else. Rosaura tries the "I was doing what I thought was best for you" approach, but the unexpected response to that is for the main theme song to play.
Rogelio tells Maria that yes, he did send Efrain out on an errand. He's going to bring back the guy who bought the horse from Ana Paula. And when he gets her back, he'll make her suffer. Nobody betrays Rogelio Montero, blah, blah, blah.
Rosaura seems to be making headway in convincing Ana Paula that when she saw Gustavo AP was already married, so she told her not to hurt her. She hoped AP would come to love Rogelio. AP whines that the marriage was only by contract, and only for a year. Rosaura says she thought it's what AP's mom would have done, to keep her from suffering…"No matter what I do, I'll never be able to live up to your mother." I'm not even going to touch that one!
Gus calls Mercedes, who's having a great time at the hacienda. Gus doesn't want to talk to Cinthia and asks Mercedes not to say anything about him coming back the next day. Mercedes is going home tomorrow, so she hopes to see him before she goes. She thinks Gus sounds tired, but he says he'll talk to her about it tomorrow.
Rosaura says she's going to come clean about something, just to prove that AP's well-being is of the utmost importance to her…she moved heaven and earth to find Federico. She knows one of AP's biggest regrets is not having more time with her father…well, dun, dun, dun, now she gets to spend time with him because her father is…Darth Vader! No, wait, sorry, her father is Federico Galvan. AP is impactada. Can I get a "No puede ser!"? No, apparently not right this moment.
Federico is hanging out with Margarito, who rats out Rogelio for being grouchy and a little too free with his whip hand. Fed doesn't want Margarito OR Ana Paula to go back to the hacienda, and he's going to do what he can so Vanessa doesn't go back either…even though Margarito says she's a tough broad and Rog wouldn’t do anything to her. Margarito is glad Fed cares about his daughter and wishes he had a dad like that. Fed says if he had a son, he'd like the son to be like Margarito. Alas, now he's just going to have to wait on grandkids. They agree that Margarito can be his #1 Grandson, postizo (pretend).
AP asks if Rosaura is sure that Fed, Vanessa's dad, is also her dad. "Where did you get that idea?" Rosaura says she always knew. "Then why didn't you tell me?!" Rosaura says she's always known, but she promised AP's mother on her deathbed not to tell, so they'd never find out their mom had had a fling with a married man. And so instead, she took on the arduous task of raising the two kids on her own. Ay, esa Rosaura! Como se dice "NO-GOOD, LYING, TACKY BEEYOTCH" en español?
Vanessa asks David to keep things quiet, because it's just too painful for her and her mother. He offers to be her shoulder to cry on. As he's leaving, Vanessa's cell phone rings. It's Cinthia, and she's calling to report that Rog told her that AP will be back soon. "Tell me you didn't tell him where to find her?!" Vanessa says no way she did that and the Mean Girls bond over how they both thought they were rid of AP and they just absolutely hate her. Mercedes comes in to report that she brought Rogelio to the dining room, like he asked, though they can't figure out why he wanted her to do it. Cinthia giddily tells her that Rogelio told her that Gustavo called. Mercedes admits that even though Gustavo wanted her to keep it a secret, he's coming back to the hacienda tomorrow "to see you!" And then they braid each other's hair, hold hands, and skip through the cow patties.
Rosaura says that AP's mom fell hard for Fed…he was good looking, rich, kind, a gentleman. Mariana was only married because Miguel's dad wouldn't give her a divorce. Plus he was a violent drunk. Mariana was so good, and wanted to help him join AA, but he never would. "I have no reason to lie to you." *snort* Rosaura tells her to hear Fed's side of the story and try to understand her. "Easier said than done! You know how his daughter's going to take it when she finds out we have the same dad?"
Van's mom counsels her to get Fed back to Tuxtla ASAP, and then convince him to buy the lands for her and put them in her name. "Of course! If Rogelio wants them, he'll have to negotiate with me!" Mami tells her Esteban came looking for her again. Vanessa isn't pleased.
Rosaura tells her not to worry about Vanessa. "It's not just that! It's the idea that Federico is my father…I don't know. I'm so confused!" Rosaura reminds her that Fed can help her in ways she can't. "He's your only way out if you don't want to go back to Rogelio." AP says Gustavo is going to help her (Wait, did I miss something? Why is Gustavo going to help her? I thought he wanted nothing to do with her because he thinks she's a faithless cheater?) and besides, if Fed is her dad, why did he leave her mom alone? Why did he never help when her mom was sick? Why hasn't he had anything to do with her until just now? "Because he didn't know either. I just told him."
Esteban asks Chio when Mercedes is coming back. She asks if they can go pick her up together from the bus station. Chio is still pushing for more, but Esteban makes it clear he think of her as a friend.
Rogelio, Mercedes, and Cinthia have a drink. Rogelio thinks it's a shame Mercedes is leaving so soon, but he hopes she enjoyed her time there. As much as he hopes Gustavo enjoys his time there…because there's a lot of stuff he needs done and he'd like Gustavo to work for him. More giddy laughing and clinking of glasses. Even Rogelio grins. Faker.
Miguel is up in his room moping. Maria brings him some dinner, plus an extra piece of flan from yesterday. Miguel has heard that AP is coming back soon. Maria says Rogelio has a lead, but that's it. Miguel would rather she was far from there. "I should help her, protect her, but all I do is get her into trouble. I hope Rogelio doesn't bring her back to this prison!"
Rosaura goes to get some air and let AP think. She smiles to herself as she leaves. TACKY. Federico comes in, calling AP "hija" (daughter). He's happy that she's the product of the love he and her mother had. "Then why didn't you get divorced and marry her if you loved her so much?"
Rog is disappointed to hear that the guy who bought the horse didn't want to come back with Efrain. He wanted to be reimbursed for the money he spent on the horse. Rogelio berates him for not giving the guy the money and says it's on Efrain's head if anything happens to AP or Margarito.
Fed explains that Elsa threatened to take Vanessa away and he didn't know that Mariana was pregnant. He swears AP was the product of love, not just an affair, and if he'd known about her, he would have found a way to be close to both his daughters. "Your mother was the love of my life." AP has a hard time believing that. Fed gives her the letter her mother wrote: "Federico, my love, you don't know how much I miss you. Even though I was the one who decided never to see you again. I told you I would never see you again because I can't make you choose between our love and your daughter. I can't let Elsa take Vanessa away and never let you see her again. But I want you to know you've left me the greatest gift in the last few days we spent together. A little piece of you that will live forever--I'm going to be a mother, and I'm happy! I love this baby, and I know if you were a free man, you'd be with me to take care of it and raise it. But we met at the wrong time and we can't base our happiness on the unhappiness of someone else. I hope she's a girl, the way we both would have liked. I promise I'll always care for this baby and I'll see you in him or her. I love you and I'll always love you, Mariana." "Ana Paula…I am your father! I swear if I had known before, I would have found a way to be with you. I hope you'll give me the chance now. Daughter, can I give you a hug?" They hug…awww!
Maria brings Miguel in to talk to Rogelio. He asks Rog not to bring his sister back there. "I'll stay in her place. I'll work, I'll do whatever you want, but leave my sister alone." Rogelio said what AP did was wrong and she's going to pay for it. He calls Maria to take Miguel back to his room.
AP is worried about a lot of things, but primarily Vanessa. Fed says it won't be easy, but he'll get her to accept it. He says Vanessa is good (*snort*) and loves him. He'll work it all out. He can't waste this opportunity. He wants everyone to know she's his daughter and he wants her to have his name, like she should have. AP says they'll talk more tomorrow. She needs more time to take it all in. Fed says he feels freer now that she knows the truth, and he hopes she knows she can count on him.
Vanessa assures Fed she's on her way to the office. She tells Elsa that he sounds better. Elsa pressures her more to get Fed back there, get him to buy the land, and keep him from looking from his other daughter. Ha!
Bruno calls Rogelio and reports he's on his way with Dany, but Rosaura has gone AWOL. He thought maybe Rosaura went back to the hacienda to see Miguel. He doesn't know where else she could be. Rogelio assumes this means she's probably with Ana Paula. Bruno tells Dany that Rog is furious, and Rosaura better be going back to the hacienda.
Fed and Rosaura walk along the beach. Fed muses he never got to travel with Mariana. Rosaura says Mariana's sacrifice was worth it if Fed's marriage was saved by it. Fed says not really, Elsa's been torturing him since then. "Aw, Fed, you're such a good guy. You have a right to be happy! You sacrificed yourself for Vanessa, but she's a grown woman now." Fed thinks it's too late for him to find someone else. He can never forget Mariana. He calls Rosaura the best sister-in-law. HA!
AP is happy to have a father, but she's thinking about Gustavo. Even if he helps her get a divorce from Rogelio, that doesn't mean she can get back together with Gustavo. She thinks he's started a thing with Carmen, but Margarito gives her the real story--that's just what Melina wanted, but Gustavo is still in love with AP and even left Carmen's house. AP is giddy, thinking she's got a chance.
Gustavo is show in by Consuelo. Cinthia hugs him enthusiastically, calling him "mi amor" and tells him she told Rogelio they're dating and Rogelio is very interested in him. He wants Gustavo to work at the hacienda for a while. Oops!
AP was going to back off, but if Gustavo's not dating someone new…"They you can be back together again! Melina heard Gustavo tell her mom that he's in love with you!" He advises her to "descasate" (un-marry yourself) from the boss and "casate" (marry) Gustavo. Ah, if only it were that easy. AP's willing to give it a try.
Cinthia tells Gustavo that her brother's opinion is important which is why she…Gustavo cuts her off and says they have to talk. He's sorry to have to say this, she's a great gal, he likes her a lot, but he doesn't love her and he can't stay with her.
Fed and AP get together. AP is feeling better, but still being a little formal with him. He hopes she'll get over that. Too bad they have to share this meal with Rosaura. AP just kept remembering so many things, and she couldn't sleep, but he sees things differently today. She's happy to have a father. Margarito chimes in and says she's also happy to be getting back together with her boyfriend, alarming Rosaura.
Cinthia doesn't understand. She thought he cared about her. "That's why I need to be honest with you. I found my ex. I'm not back together with her, but I realized I can't forget her, and that's not fair to you." Cinthia warns him she won't give him a second chance. "Well, did she break up with her other guy?" Rogelio comes in and tells Cinthia to go get Mercedes while he talks to Gustavo about the jobs. Gus says he can't work for him. He doesn't know if Cinthia will like it since he just broke up with her. He's not back with his ex, and she's with someone else..."The woman who would do that to you would do it again, so think about what you're doing. When you doubt the person you love, your life turns into a living hell," opines Rogelio.
AP is determined to get back together with Gus, despite the short time they were together before. Rosaura disapproves, but Fed is all about the power of true love and approves of her trying to get Gus back.
Cin tells Mercedes that Gus broke up with her and went back to his ex. Mercedes thinks he's a dumbass for doing it. Cinthia is furious, but she says she'll get over it. Mercedes comforts her and says she still wants them to be friends, but she understands if Cinthia doesn't want to.
AP goes to talk to Fermin. Melina takes Margarito to show him something. Carmen comes in just as AP asks where to find Gustavo. Carmen tells her to leave him alone and quit hurting him. "I didn't do it on purpose! I need to tell him my marriage is just a contract!" She tells Carmen it's a long story, but she's not sleeping with the guy she's married to. Carmen thinks it's bull. AP appeals to Fermin and he tells her that Gus didn't go back to Tuxtla. He's staying in the same bungalows she is. Big resort town like that and there's only one hotel?
Gus tells Rog he'll think about it, but he's got to finish the jobs he has right now. Cinthia and Mercedes come in and Rog asks if Cin is ok with Gus working there. She says it's fine. Rog doesn't like goodbyes so he says he's taking off. Cin takes him to his office and Mercedes rips into him. Gus says his feelings for Cinthia aren't that deep, so it's better to break up with her. He says he won't discuss this with her, but they do have some things to talk about. "Why didn't you tell Ana it was my father who had died and not me?" Mercedes looks guilty.
Ana goes to the front desk and gets Gustavo's bungalow number, but also hears he's not coming back until later that night.
Vanessa is impressed with David, but advises him to use the money he'll get for the land to pay off Rogelio. She also thanks him for coming with her to an audit, which he says she handled really well. Van is being pretty heavy handed, oozing sex appeal all over the place. Elsa comes over to see if they reached an agreement on the land, which they did. All they need is Fed to close the deal. David looks disturbed by Vanessa's kiss on the cheek. Elsa seems to approve. Vanessa tries to get her to be more involved in the business, but Elsa is more concerned with haranguing Vanessa about getting Fed back to Tuxtla. They hit on the idea of telling Fed he's needed to help her with the audit. Vanessa whines to him on the phone that she can't handle it. Fed says she's done well and he's proud of her, but if she needs him then he's on the way. Fed tells AP and Rosaura about the call. Rosaura suggests they all go back together, but AP won't leave until she's talked to Gustavo. "I have to clear things up with him!" Fed understands. "Go back without me, dad." Rosaura is worried Rogelio will find her, but AP brushes it off, saying she'll hide in the bungalow if she has to. Fed decides that AP is more important than a business problem and he's going to stay until the next day, so he can meet Gustavo.
Rogelio tells Cinthia he's sorry things didn't work out with Gustavo either. "That makes 3." He insists he's not making fun of her. Cinthia reminds him that one woman left him at the altar and the other one ditched him right after marrying him. Efrain comes in and says the guy with the lead has disappeared. "See! Gustavo doesn't want me, but at least he's not my husband. Do you know what they call you in town? El Abandonado!" (The one who was abandoned.) Rog starts to go after her with the whip, but Efrain gets in the way again…just for a second, then he walks out.
Tomorrow: AP and Gus smooch; AP and Gus hang out on the beach while the announcer hints at impending nookie.

La Que No Podía Amar #46 Wednesday 2/29/12 MentiRosa AND a Quitamaridos
El Refrito
- Rohell has a fit and takes it out on his wedding pictre.
- Tía admires Elena's new jewelry arrivals and discusses all her money connections.Cupcake is married to a powerful man who provides all the cattle for the empacadora of her real Daddy. Through Ana, Tía is going to milk both business for dough!
- Eat Doña María brand Bayou Beans! They're tasty and so easy to prepare. Just cut open a box and plop them in a preheated pan. Saves you so much time, you will be able to pay closer attention to the spoiled brat you work for! While you listen to shallow insipid people whine about not being able to eat on the terrace, your bayou beans will slowly simmer to perfection. When the selfish adults preen and gush over their new love interest you can be all ears. Bayou Beans will practically cook themselves. You can even engage in conversation! You can act surprised when a certain cold woman-child admits that it was Guscake behind the recent split from David....and all the while, the succulent aroma of bayou beans will fill the air. You won't even notice the stench of the whining, abdomen baring shrew whining about being an old maid without her inheritance.
- Fede calls and tells Tía he found the Cupcake. Tía is thrilled. She wheedles a company driver out of Fede so she can go to Boring del Cielo. She thinks he should wait to spill the baby daddy bayou beans. After getting off the phone, she tells Elena about a letter that proves Cupcake is Fede's daughter. Tía also plans to swoop in and take Fede away from La Vaca.
- Fede apologizes to Ana about misjudging her. He says Vainy and Cupcake have much in common. Ana just wants Fede to leave her alone. He thinks her marriage to save her brother was very noble. Information he got from Dany. He is applying butter frosting to the Cupcake so his news will not come as such a shock. Cupcake just can't figure out why he wants to help so much. Vainy is his daughter and boy does that chick hate the Cupcake. Fede hopes Vainy will come around. He asks her to accept his help. He tells her to stay in the Bungalow and not leave since Vainy and David are prowling about.
- Maria tells Rohell to chill. Same conversation as usual. Rohell crumples a picture.
- Conned is still mad at Effer and his love for Sin. They fight. Effer wants to know que diablo she was thinking when she blabbed to Maria about him loving Sin. Did she want to get him in trouble? Conned said if she wanted that, she would have informed the Patrón as soon as she discovered Cintavo canoodling in the bedroom. Maria overhears. Conned leaves and Maria wants to have a serious talk with Effer.
- Carmen knows the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, but Gus just wants to be friend. Meli lobbies for team Cartavo (or would Gusmen be better?) Fermin explains you can't change novi@s like you do dresses. Unless you are Sinthia. Haven't we had this conversation already?
- Effer confesses to Maria he loves Sinthia. He says he was with Conned in the hopes of forgetting Sin. We get the standard TN un clavo saca a otro clavo cliché (one nail drives out the other.) María forbids to talk to Sin unless it's hacienda business. Oh would that Effer would follow her instructions! Then I wouldn't have to watch them together ever again!
- Vainy and Vaca plot the land purchase in Boring del Cielo. Vaca tells Vainy to get all the lands put in Vainy's name so the illegitimate daughter can't get her grubby little hands on them.
- Fede tells Cupcake that he, Vainy and David will be checking out the land so she can get out of the bungalow for a bit since they won't be back until after dinner.
- Miguel is still drunk and Rohell still doesn't like it according to Maria.
- Cupcake runs into Guscake on the beach (actually he was running, she was strolling.) He still won't listen, so Cupcake returns the necklace and tells him adiós and que seas feliz.
- Tía and Elena search for the letter Mariana wrote informing Fede of his paternity. Too bad Mariana never had the guts to send it. According to Tía this letter is her passport to a life of luxury.
- M-grito asks about the necklace and Ana yammers on about it. I'm so tired of that friggin' thing.
- Gus tells Carmen he's seeing someone in Tuxtla, but sill in love with Ana. He's leaving Boring del Cielo so both Carmen and Meli get the idea he is a FRIEND. Carmen is dense. (An aside: Gus is cute, but QTH? Why does every woman who crosses his path fall in love with him?)
- Vainy, David and Fede. Fede is called back to Tuxtla for an audit, but Vainy doesn't want him traveling so much and she offers to go. A stupid, time wasting scene just so Vainy has reason to get up and get ready and see M-grito.
- Gus says good-bye to Boring del Cielo take two.
- Vainy sees Ana. Vainy tattles to Sin via the cell phone. Vainy wants to to tell Rohell ASAP. Sin tell her no. It really will be better for Vainy with Cupcake out of the picture. They scheme.
- Dany has no news for Bruno about Cupcakes whereabouts. Rohell calls and tells him to return to the hacienda with Dany and Tía in tow.
- Ana feels la llamada de la sangre...though not in those words. She just feels safe and protected. He misses Gus and loves him, but alas he is with someone new.
- Sin and Effer FF>> I felt a little pity for Sin last week, but this week she has shown herself to be shallow, stupid, spoiled and one dimensional.
- Bruno can't find Tía and he's having a fit.
- Sin tells Rohell she wants Gus and doesn't care what Rohell says. She gives lip service to wanting Gus money or not. I'm not holding my breath. Rohell gives his blessing and likes Gus for a cuñado.
- Bruno calls Gusano (Rutilio) and finds out Mersnotty is still in San Gab. Bruno tells Gusano to keep an eye out for Tía too. A bit of a deal was made about Gusano not knowing what Tía looked like and Bruno giving a description. This may or may not be important.
- Maria is happy Rohell approved the Cintavo pairing. Rohell is just out for free Hydraulic engineering work.
- M-grito whine about being bored. Cupcake has lines. The most important one: What does freedom matter if I can't have the one I love?
- Gus calls to talk to Sin. Rohell wants to talk hydraulics with him. Gus wants to talk to Sin first, but since she's in San Gab at the moment he'll call back.
- Sin and Mersnotty in San Gab acting like twits and saying cuñada over and over. How old are they? FF>> Oh, there's a brief Debbie Downer Ernesto reference.
- Ana and Fed have the same conversation. She wants to know why he's helping and he tells her to keep her heart and mind open.
- Effer found the horse Cupcake fled with. Rohell wants the old man brought to him, but the guy is being questioned by the police...but he ain't talking. Rohell wants to know if Effer at least found out which way Cupcake and M-grito went. Old guy lives in St Lazaro
- Tía arrives in Boring del Cielo and gives Fede the letter. Fede has a weird attack. Is he laughing or crying? He kisses the letter a couple times. He has no doubt Cupcake is his.
- Vainy tells David about Fede's illegitimate daughter (since, you know, that's apparently *her* business and she has the right to blab.)
- Cupcake enters lobby and sees Tía. Cupcake is a little mad that Fed blabbed. She was supposed to trust him! Tía convinces Fed to leave them alone. Tía explains that she knew Fed 20 years before when she worked in his office. She mentions Rohell and Cupcake says she's not going back. Tía claims ot only care about Ana's well-being. Tía has so much to tell the Cupcake! Cupcake doesn't want to hear it because Tía KNEW Gus was alive and KNEW he was looking for Ana.
- Gus breaks up with Sin
- Ana learns Fed is her Dad.

Una Familia Con Suerte #143-144 Wed 2/29/12 in which Berto gives advice everybody should take (breath deeply and get over yourself)
Vince tells Enzo that Pancho is Fer's son. And that he falsified the DNA results. "Actually I didn't do it, I paid a tech to do it. Now you see why I need your - discretion." If Pancho is Fer's son, he will inherit her Avon holdings.
Enzo's stunned by Vince's bold skulduggery. "What if your aunt finds out?" "How can she? The tech is now living happily in Australia with koalas and kangaroos. But the worst of it is, Pancho and I are cousins!" Enzo laughs. Luckily Candy is not really Pancho's brother or Vince would be in love with his first cousin. But Ana and Freddie -- are they cousins for real?
Speaking of the King of Rome, Freddy is beaming at Ana at the Lopez dinner table. A big pink box is carried in; Ana lifts the box and there's a cake under it, and on the cake is her new cd called "Una Familia Con Suerte," with pictures of: Laura, Pancho, I dunno who, Rebe, Chela, Pepe and Moni, Sandrucha, Candy with somebody behind her I can't recognize, and Ana. I would have thought her BAND members would get on the cover not her random family members. But I don't make the news, I just report it. Freddy is proud of Ana, she is looking forward to touring and press coverage etc. Candy decides to help out and appoints herself manager and representative of Ana Lopez.
Tomas is in jail thinking his sister killed Dud. Elena has - wait for it - AMNESIA! She is calling Tomas but he can't answer - because he's in jail, duh.
Chela admits to Pancho she liked kissing him.
Fer's doctor must have proposed to her and she must not have said yes (yet). Lupe tells the doc there seems to be a cloud of love around them. "I adore Fer, I've loved her for years," he says - and for once somebody overhears something to their advantage! Fer creeps in and tells the doc she loves him too.
Rebe is not enjoying dinner with Mike and is drinking a lot of Tequila. She's pissed thinking Pancho is lovin' Chela (must have seen them kissing). Rebe drinks more tequila. "Remember our first kiss, at the beach," Mike mutters revoltingly. He makes Rebe close her eyes. "Remember the sun, the ocean, our love..."
He closes in with his pink lipstick and she doesn't pull away, but she doesn't reciprocate with enthusiasm. Yuk, he's a terrible kisser! Somebody hiding behind a handy column is taking pictures.
Finally Rebe recoils and says, "Wouldn't you have preferred kissing a corpse? With this, you've killed the memory of our first kiss. I'm angry and confused and I don't want to be here." She stalks out. Mike calls his assistant Lidia Hot Pants and she joins him at the restaurant. When he tells her he kissed Rebe, she gets mad, says she's jealous, and leaves.
Pancho is staggering around disturbed by Chela's love.
Vince asks Enzo to put the love-nest apartment in Candy's name, because she wants it that way. Enzo gives him 'egg eyes.'
Arnold can't get in touch with Pina in Brussels, he's worried about her. He notices Rebeca is in the dumps. "A few days ago I was excited about marrying Pancho, now I want to forget him."
In the meeting, Enzo tells Pancho he broke up with Chela. They're very chummy now that they got blotto together. Rebe comes in and won't look up.
Tomas is let out of his cell and taken to a guy in charge who points out Tomas was caught with a bloody towel, cleaning some murder weapon (boy, this is all new to me, I haven't watched since last Wednesday). I guess Tomas thinks his sister (an amnesiac, remember...) killed the Dud: Tomas therefore "admits" he killed the guy (to save his sister from hanging for it).
The Avon and Belle Face meeting is no laugh riot. Everybody is formal and nobody looks up. The real value of Belle Face has been established. Vince says Pina can't be at the meeting. Mike admits (I'm not sure why) that he committed fraud in the past and let Rebe take the blame; he praises her and says she is honest etc. Vince complains it isn't relevant.
Vince and Pancho shout childishly at each other in the meeting. Arnold tells everybody to breathe deeply and relax.
Elsewhere, Lupita has evil foreboding while, in prison, Tomas signs his confession and cries.
Rebe coldly informs Chela: "Now you have a clear field to get what you've always wanted." But on her way in to see Pancho, Chela runs into Enzo; he drops his papers, their hands touch, they have a long moment nose to nose. And, I am thrilled to see, the episode ends, it's just one hour tonight! Hurrah!
