Zorro, Tues. April 4 - Yet more people volunteer to rescue Sara Kali & Fernando decides to be a good guy

Montero reacts badly to the news Esme gives him that she is carrying Diego’s child. Esme proposes a deal. She will go far away, Montero can keep her fortune, accuse her of adultery and annul their marriage. His military career won’t be harmed and he’ll be rich.
Montero has a counter offer: In a great celebration for the city of LA, Montero and his wife will announce the birth of their first born.

Alejandro is concerned that Almudena is sad. Almudena says that she is sad because of all the injustice in the world. Almudena says to Alejandro that she would like to tell him everything but it concerns Esme. Al presses her a little and she spills the beans that Esme is risking her life to stay with Montero so that she can free her mother from prison. Almudena tells Al that Fernando has put his wife in an iron mask and locked her up in a prison while telling everyone she died in Spain. Al is impactado.

Esme says that she will never say that her baby is Montero’s. ‘Fine,’ says Montero, ‘then get rid of the baby.’ ‘Never!’ says Esme. Montero then says that when her pregnancy shows, he will announce that his wife is expecting. When Esme objects, Montero says that he will kill her and everyone she is close to if she says otherwise. He will not be the butt of jokes in the town.

Alone, Esme swears that Montero’s plan will never happen. She has enough time before her pregnancy shows to rescue her mother and escape far away.

Almudena appears to be telling Al all these secrets in some public place, like a restaurant, so they have to keep lowering their voices and looking around guiltily. Not surprisingly, Al asks why Fernando would lock up his wife who had just given him a daughter. Almudena then tells Al that Esme is not Fernando’s daughter. Mercedes (aka Sara Kali) was preggers by another man when she married Fernando. Almudena goes on to tell Al that there is some big secret with Mercedes that she doesn’t know – something to do with the Spanish crown. Al then figures out that maybe Fernando and Montero had something to do with the death of the Viceroy who was looking for a particular inmate at the prison. Almudena wonders what will happen. She tells Al that now that Esme knows her mother is alive, she won’t rest until her mother is freed.

Fernando admits that the dagger is his but claims that he didn’t kill Regina. He shows Father Tomas that the dagger is one of a pair and claims that it was stolen from the hacienda before Regina was killed. Father Tomas is not buying this story at all but Fernando is prepared to swear before god and man that he didn’t kill Regina and therefore he can have Maria Pia.

Back at the convent to be, Maria Pia lets the slave hunters into the storeroom not knowing that Suplicios and two other nuns hid the slave in there. The dogs lose the scent and the slave hunters go away apologizing. Suplicios tries to stop the other nuns from telling Maria Pia that they hid an escaped slave in the storeroom. Finally, Suplicios admits that she brought the slave there. Maria Pia is upset that they endangered the convent with their actions. [I noted that there was a shelf of pineapples in the storeroom. Pineapples don’t grow any closer to California than Veracruz in Mexico.]

Diego is assembling his most powerful weapons to use in the prison break. He is concerned that he won’t be able to see much in the dark basement of the prison. [No worries – this prison seems to be very well lit.] Bernardo volunteers to go and reconnoiter. [This seems like a bad idea. We know that Zorro can fight his way out of almost anything – but what is Bernardo going to do if he gets caught?] but Diego agrees.

Al tells Almudena that Esme shouldn’t try and rescue her mother with the help of the gypsies. Gypsies aren’t warriors – they’re performers. Al wants to help Esme. [There’s going to be a traffic jam of rescuers at the prison!] Almudena is concerned that Al not reveal that she blabbed the whole story to him. Al tells her not to worry. Besides, he says, they are about to give him the Order of a Knight of the Royal Family. Al will be a powerful man who can better help Esme and her mother.

Maria Pia tells the nuns that they were right to try and help the escaped slave. Her only problem is that they didn’t tell her about it. The slave has disappeared but it is too late to look for him. They can search tomorrow. When Maria Pia tells Suplicios that in spite of all that has gone on between them, Suplicios must respect her authority. Suplicios says that she is only following Maria Pia’s example. Didn’t Maria Pia hide the Governor in the convent once?

Al and Almudena speculate that Fernando must be crazy to have put his wife in an iron mask and locked her up in prison for 20 years. Almudena says that she can’t help but love him – he’s her only brother. Al and Almudena agree that deep down there must be something good in Fernando or Maria Pia wouldn’t have fallen in love with him.

Maria Pia tells Father Tomas that she is worried about Suplicios’ behavior now that she has been named Mother Superior and Father Tomas tells her to be careful. They discuss the ritual of consecration and Padre Tomas tells Maria Pia that sometimes one makes a decision based on lies. Maria Pia asks what Father Tomas is referring to and asks if he has spoken to Fernando. Father Tomas says it’s too late. They’ll discuss it in the morning.

Father Tomas doesn’t know whether to believe Fernando that he didn’t kill Regina or not. He asks for Divine guidance.

Diego and Esme (in a sexy little Teddy that could have come from Victoria’s Secret) go to bed separately, of course, and have flashbacks to previous encounters to the Corazon song.

Catalina encounters Diego in the town square [where there are more pineapples for sale in a booth]. She congratulates Diego on his engagement and reveals that she knows that Diego got drunk and ended up in bed with MA. Diego tells her that can’t understand how a bottle of champagne made him that drunk and maybe it was drugged. Catalina is shocked and suggests that maybe Diego was despondent because of what Esmeralda did to him.

Father Tomas tells Maria Pia that he found the escaped slave in the church. Maria Pia explains what happened with the slave at the convent. Maria Pia asks Father Tomas if he is going to tell her what Fernando said about the dagger. Father Tomas then asks Maria Pia if she became a nun because the man she loved was unworthy or because she got a sign from God. Maria Pia says that she came to the convent to escape from Fernando but has learned to love God’s work. Father Tomas then tells her that Fernando claims that the dagger was stolen and from him and therefore he did not kill Regina.

Fernando gives his henchman money to recompense the men that were hurt at the village that Fernando’s men attacked. The henchman is surprised but he obeys. Fernando tells himself that he is a changed man.

Maria Pia doesn’t believe Fernando’s ‘stolen dagger’ story. Father Tomas asks her if she has any other proof that Fernando killed Regina.

Esme and Almudena (all dressed up in mantillas for church) meet in the square. Esme tells Almudena what happened with Montero. Alumdena is concerned for Esme’s safety.

Montero tells Pizarro not to let Zorro get the tax collection again. Pizarro notes that Montero looks a little peaky and Montero says that he was in his study all night after Esme gave him bad news. Pizarro offers to help but Montero just wants to be alone. When he is alone, Montero says that he will have fun when he gets his hands on Diego’s child and he will make Esme shed tears of blood for him.

Diego runs into MA outside the church. She asks him to accompany her and they can practice walking up the aisle of the church as they will on their wedding day. Diego is not enthusiastic until he sees Esme and Almudena go into the church. Then he decides to go into the church with MA.

Olmos is writing a letter. He writes that soon he will have Mercedes in his power and will be able to confirm His Majesty’s suspicions. He tells himself that when Mercedes is freed, Olmos will have a grand fortune and everything that he wants – including MA whether she is married or not.

Maria Pia completely loses it when Padre Tomas suggests the possibility that Fernando might be innocent of Regina’s murder. She had been so sure and now she has doubts. Father Tomas asks if there were any witnesses to the killing. Maria Pia says yes, but they were old and are dead now. The only living witness is Diego and he doesn’t remember the killer’s face.

Fernando buys flowers and finds Maria Pia staggering around town. He asks her to marry him. Esme and Diego are eyeing each other in church. Diego sneaks away from MA and find Esme in a chapel. He tells her that he can no longer deny it – he loves her.
The credits roll.

Duelo de Pasiones - Tuesday 4/3 - Listen, (doo da doo), do you want to know a secret?

Margaret left us with Don Loco surprising Malena and Dr. Love at Malena's apartment. Loco walks in the door and Malena and Dr. Love look as guilty as hell. Loco asks, "and Mariana?"

Soledad tells Elias that she wants to escape that very night, (quite sensible if you ask me), but no, Elias has contracted SESID and says they need to wait, to plans things out and to include Alina. Soledad, the local Typhoid Mary of SESID says he's right, gives him a peck on the cheek, and leaves to escape back into her prison. (God help me, how stupid did that sound?) Elias is deeply affected by her kiss.

Dr. Love must have apprised Don Loco of Mariana's condition. "Quadriplegic? Poor Mariana, I wish to see her," Don Loco says in a rather bland, unfeeling manner. Dr. Love agrees to escort Loco to the hospital while yellow-belly Malena stays behind to cry on her sewing machine.

Vera tells Jaime that the witch Luba gives her the willies (actually, I think she said Luba gives her ladybug skin but I'm not sure. "Se me ponga la piel chinita de susto." **Help anyone?) Anyway, Vera is afraid that Luba will do something horrible to Flor such as turn her into an animal, make her fall on nails, or make her cross-eyed forever. She prays to the sainted Diosito that the witch do nothing bad to Flor.
Correction: chinita = kinky hair, so Vera is saying Luba is scaring her until her hair gets kinky/curly, i.e. stands on end.

Malena cries over her sewing. There is a knock at the door. It's Arcadio and he wants to speak to Jose's woman, he has bad news. Malena tells him to tell her. She, with the track record of proven reliability, will convey the message. With hat in hand Arcadio tells her, "Jose is dead, he was killed in Sierra Escondida." Margaret is right, Malena does wide-eyed impactada really well.

In the hospital - Don Loco asks Dr. Love about his unusual interest in his sister. Dr. Love, to his credit, tells Loco he loves Mariana, maybe she told Loco of their plans to marry? Loco accuses Dr. Love of wanting Mariana for her inheritance. Dr. Love says they never discussed it, he is starting to figure out he's dealing with a nut case here. Loco accuses Dr. Love again of having more than a love interest in his sister. Dr. Love looks at Loco like "What is your damage s**t for brains?" I'm liking Dr. Love a little more tonight. I hope he doesn't buy another puppet.

Alina tells Luba if Emilio really loves her then she will forgive him for everything. She twirls around happily. Luba doesn't look quite as happy, but assures Flor that Emilio will leave Thelma, "You know, when a man discovers he's tied to a poisonous serpent, he squashes it and throws it to one side." Luba doesn't mince words.

Creepy time. Don Loco and Dr. Love are talking by saucer-eyed Mariana's bedside. Loco tells Dr. Love that money is no object, it's his obligation to his sister. Dr. Love looks like he smelled something nasty, says it's not a matter of obligation or money, he loves Mariana and he'll stay by her side. Loco says he's leaving in the morning but then he'll return. He pats Mariana's head. She looks frightened and horrified.

Santos tells his young voluptuous mother that he's not afraid of Don Max. If it's a fight he wants, it's a fight he'll get. (Talk is cheap, wuss.)

Luba tells Flor that any moment now Emilio should be professing his love to her, that he wants to separate from the viper and marry Flor instead. [Tocan a la puerta.] Vera is at the door and freaks when she sees Luba. She tells Alina that El Patron Emilio wants to speak to her. Luba gives Florina the "I toldja so" look.

Nasty Castulo is in his room putting bullets in his gun when Thelma enters. He's mad because he didn't get enough money for her necklace. He wants more dough, pronto. I wonder who the bullets are for?

Emilio tells Alina he wants to apologize for many things but especially for accusing her of being bought by Thelma's broche. She has flashbacks of his transgressions as he apologizes for them. She forgives him (SESID again). She smiles when he says that a Valtierra would be proud to make her his wife. She's happy because she thinks he's talking about himself. Nobody has told her yet that they are all planning to marry her off to Angel.

Alina smiles and fantasizes about having the last name Valtierra like it's some big gift or something. Emilio the ass goes on to say that things are going to change between them. When love is sincere it cannot be obscured and now is the time to formalize that love. Do we blame her for thinking he's about to propose? Gosh, she looks so happy she's about to bust.

Sleeping Angel dreams he's marrying Alina. He's wearing a white suit and except for his greased back hair he's looking pretty good, and best of all he's not wearing a silly bandana. Uh oh, as the bride and groom prepare to kiss he gets a nosebleed. He looks around and Flor is gone! He awakes, "I can't marry Alina, I'm dying." Cough, cough.

Thelma comes into his room looking for Emilio. She looks a lot more pregnant than she did yesterday. Maybe I just didn't notice before. Angel tells her to get Emilio, he needs to speak to him immediately.

Thelma interrupts Emilio and Alina. Emilio must see Angel right away. He asks (tells) Alina to wait for him.

Thelma tries to get Alina to tell her what she and Emilio were talking about. She accuses Alina of talking behind her back. (Well duh, it's not like she and Emilio can talk in front of Thelma's face, is it?)

Loco asks Malena why she didn't tell him about Dr. Love. I think he infers that he thought Malena was a snitch/gossip and thought she would have told him (Loco) about Mariana's business. But no, he should have known not to trust her ever since he found out she got married (and didn't tell him?). And God only knows if she (Malena) really did get married or just acted like it. Did her husband die or just abandon her? Speaking of which, where's the kid?

Luba paces the floor of Alina's room and talks to herself. She hopes that Emilio is thinking of divorcing that wretch Thelma and will hand her over to the devil, getting her far away from here.

Thelma accuses Alina of hiding something. Alina says Emilio apologized for calling her (Alina) a thief, their conversation was just getting started when Thelma interrupted them. Thelma puts her hand on her hip and exhales sarcastically.

Angel tells Emilio that his dream was a sign, he can't marry Alina when he could die at any moment.

Malena tells Loco that her daughter is with her dead husband's mother. Loco says it's probably best, this Mariana thing could really impact a kid, these things can cause irreperable damage. He says this like he knows about irreparable damage first hand, then he rudely lights up a cigar in her apartment. Give a hoot, don't pollute a-hole! Loco says he hopes Mariana recuperates quickly. He's already carrying a heavy load and he doesn't need one more worry.

Emilio convinces Angel to give it a couple of days, when Angel feels better he'll feel differently about marrying Alina. Angel agrees to see the Dr. in Puebla. Emilio will make plans for the trip.

Thelma tells Alina that if she (Alina) gets between her (Thelma) and her husband she will do a lot of damage to Alina. Thelma grabs Alina and shakes her hard. She says neither prostitutes (Coral), not maids (Flor), nor beggars (Flor) are going to steal what belongs to her. They scream at each other until Emilio show up.

Gaspar is in the cave flexing his biceps and talking to himself. He can't believe he opened his big mouth to Thelma. If Luba finds out she'll really give him the stick (he rubs his behind). But his fairy promised not to say anything. "She loves me," he says, hugging himself,"then she kissed me."

A strange woman cries to Adela that Gaspar treated her badly. Adela calls her Nora. Hey, it's a new Nora! OK, if they start replacing actors I'm going to get confused. I can't keep all the servants and field hands straight as it is. Wait a minute...I wonder if they will get a new Emilio? Wow, that would be great! Be still my beating heart.

Sergio comes in and insults "Nora." He says to get Gaspar to like her she'll have to be crazy like him. Yeah, yeah, sticks and stones.

Alina tells Emilio that she was telling Thelma that they weren't talking behind Thelma's back, their conversation was just getting started when Thelma interrupted them. "Actually, it was just ending," Emilio says. Alina looks confused but says "Fine, I'm leaving." Thelma smirks but asks Emilio, "What gives? I heard you tell her to wait for you." Emilio admits that Angel wanted to propose to Alina but he changed his mind.

Orlando and Don Max have a conversation about Alina marrying Angel instead of being with Orlando. They talk about her like she is a piece of meat or property. I wonder if anyone ever plans to tell Alina about these plans?

Adela brings Soledad some dinner. While they talk Sergio discovers that the cellar door is unlocked. He locks it unbeknownst to Soledad who thinks she'll be sneaking out later that night to visit Alina. Personally, I think she deserves this nasty surprise as a punishment for her stupidity.

Don Loco is in his hotel hallway and thinks he sees Soledad wish some paunchy old dude. He busts into their room and of course it's not Soledad but some other blonde hottie that the paunchy dude is about to boink. Paunchy dude is not pleased to have a madman busting into his room and yells for hotel security.

Thelma tells Emilio she doesn't believe he would step aside to let Angel marry Alina. Emilio says he promised at the altar that he would give Flor up to Angel if God allowed Angel to live.

Two security goons have a hold of Loco. He insists it was all a mistake. Paunchy dude, a very bad actor, agrees to let Loco go. Loco has a tantrum in his room and blames Soledad. Everthing bad that happens is her fault.

Thelma tells Emilio to kiss her, kiss her to prove to her that everything will be like it was before.

Alina tells Luba she's going crazy. She thought Emilio loved her, that he was about to propose marriage, not break her heart. Boo hoo.

Oh ick!! Emilio actually kisses Thelma. We know he doesn't love or even like her because it's a normal kiss, not his usual lamprey wide-mouth face sucking kiss. She says that confirms it, now he knows she loves him and is expecting THEIR child. He looks like he has a very bad headache.

Malena visits a sleeping Mariana. Dr. Love tells her that Don Loco is a weirdo. She agrees, he cares more for his cane fields than he does for his sister. Mariana has only them.

Soledad is unable to open her secret escape hatch and frets that she won't be able to leave, she'll go crazy(er).

Orlando has a big hissy fit in front of Thelma. How could Emilio "give" Flor to a frail misery like Angel instead of to him, Orlando? Thelma tells him not to worry, after they all go to Pueblo Flor will be putty in his hands.

Luba is still going off on Thelma in front of Alina. Vipers like Thelma don't deserve any consideration, she's worse than a demon, she has no heart, boy oh boy could she ever tell Flor a secret about Thelma... "A secret?" asks Flor, "You know a secret about that woman?" Uh oh.

Orlando thinks Thelma is right, he can use his mighty sex power to conquer Flor. But what about Don Maximo? Thelma says Don Max couldn't care less about this business, besides, once they leave this horrible place they are never coming back. Orlando tells himself this could work out very well without Emilio or Angel around to defend Flor.

Emilio tells Angel he's certain his illness can be cured by the Dr. in Puebla. Thelma interrupts to say she needs to know exactly when they're leaving tomorrow, she has so many things to arrange... Emilio breaks the bad news to her. She's not going, she has to remain at La Rinconada.

Thelma is pissed off beyond words, but she does her best to spit a few out. No way is her baby going to be born in this God-forsaken place! Emilio says the roads are too bad for a pregnant woman to travel so Thelma will remain with her Tia and Don Max. So his weak sickly brother can take the journey, but robust barely-pregnant Thelma is too delicate?

Flor tries to wheedle The Secret out of Luba.

Angel tells Emilio that it's best if Thelma goes with them. Emilio should keep his little family together. Emilio looks unhappy. Why doesn't he admit to Angel that he's trying to get away from that skank Thelma?

Oh. My. Gawd. Don Loco is talking to Gasca (from Alborada) on the telephone!!! Wait, Loco calls him Hugo. Did they replace Hugo too? They replaced the hunk who played Hugo with the creepy Gasca? Estoy muy impactada!!

Loco says to himself, "Poor Mariana, what am I going to do with her? And to make matters worse there's this pauper that says he loves her. Problemas problemas."

Thelma and Auntie are in Thelma's room doing a slow burn about having to stay in Escondidaville. Suddenly Emilio enters and tells them they are all going to Puebla in the morning. Hooray, joy and rapture!

Alina asks Luba why can't she hear The Secret, doesn't Luba care about her happiness? Luba says Flor has plenty, a big room, cool new clothes, she doesn't need to hear a secret. Better that Luba shut up and beat feet.

Alone, Alina is joined by Orlando. He takes her hand and offers his friendship, but Alina says she wants to be alone. She leaves. Orlando scowls, then smells his hand and smiles, "She's wild, but I will tame that little flower."

Thelma tells Auntie not to tell anyone, especially the servants, that they are going. She wants to leave La Rinconada forever so she'll never have to see that maldito (Gaspar?) again.

Luba makes her way back to the cave and mutters something about that maldita Thelma opening her big fat mouth and causing them to get thrown out of Sierra Escondida. She has to see Macario. She's going to request that once the child is born he cause that wretch Thelma to be released from Sierra Escondida, never to return again.

Aunti brings a bottle of hooch into Don Maximo's office. He's not in the mood to drink...with her. She's says it's a goodbye drink. When she tells him that Emilio, Angel, Thelma and she are leaving in the a.m. he perks right up. "Yes, let's toast!"

Macario and Luba stand next to a small fire in a cave, she holds her head in her hands as Macario speaks and throws fairy dust on the fire to make it flare up. He chants, "Go, go from Escondidaville! You cannot rest while you are here, go!" Then he tells Luba the deed is done. "Good, I hope she goes and never returns," says Luba, cut to a sleeping Thelma with Luba voice-over, "Thelma, I wish that you pay dearly for all the bad you have caused and that you never have peace!" Cut back to Thelma's dream, her baby cries and she and Auntie look into the crib. They are horrified. Is it a little baby with long black hair and bulging muscles wearing overalls and teeny tiny Jethro boots? Ah, we'll not know tonight because Thelma wakes, horrified and crying, "My son, my son!"

Next morning Don Max tells Emilio he had no idea they were leaving until Auntie Rebeca told him. He promises Emilio that Alina can stay at La Rinconada and will be treated like a guest of honor. Emilio tells him that Angel wants to get better and return to marry Alina (still not knowing that every one is planning her fate). Max promises not to let Don Loco mistreat Flor. Emilio tells him that he has signed over to Don Max the investment of the harvest. He leaves and Don Max cackles and throws his hat in the air. He is the absolute boss of La Rinconada and Alina can go to the devil for all he cares.

The word is out, Vera tells Jaime that "they" are all leaving this morning. "The viper too," he asks? Yes, says Vera, all of them including the viper Thelma. But Vera feels bad for Flor, she'll be sad when she hears.

"Hear what Vera?" Foralina has walked in and heard their conversation. Jaime the wimp leaves. Vera hems and haws but finally tells Alina that the patron, his wife, her aunt and Angel are all leaving this morning. Alina is super slow-mo impactada.

She claims that she will be content to be friends with him. He confesses that he can't be with her because he loves someone else. He leaves. She is shocked.

* Rod walks outside the building. On the steps, he pauses, smiles and thinks about reuniting with Gavi.

* Gavi, in London, pauses, smiles and thinks about her reunion with Rod.

* At the Mexico City mansion, Rod and Dani laugh and he tells her what he told Isa last night about loving someone else. Dani knows the someone else is Gavi - and laughs at the thought of the reactions when the family finds out and Rod and Gavi are married. Abuela Pilar enters and interrupts. Sofia enters, in her pajamas, to tell Rod that his taxi is outside. He says his good-byes and rushes out the door. Sofia whispers to Abuela Pilar, wonder what has him in such a good mood?

* Isa is having a sex dream about Rod. The cell phone rings - it wakes her up - she is disgusted when she sees the caller ID - she hangs up and returns to her dream. She vows to make her dream a reality.

* Rod arrives at the hacienda and asks Ramon where Gavi is. Ramon tells him that she left for Europe - Rod is confused and asks for details - Ramon tells him what he knows and about the two letters - Rod is still curious why she left for Europe - Ramon hypothesizes about her finding work in Paris and London. Rod is still baffled. As he remembers his and Gavi's promise to each other and their good-bye kisses, he smiles and tells himself that she will return to him.

Acorralada #56 Monday 4/2/07

We open to Friday's closing scene in Octavia's office, where the judge is ruling against Octavia, and Diana is rubbing it in Marfil's face.

Back at Isabel's apartment, Isabel is preparing to give Deborah a sedative as Deborah begs her not to. Isabel responds that she must do it so that Deborah doesn't scream and arouse the suspicions of the neighbors or the police.

In Octavia's office, Fedora is awarded Octavia's factory, mansion, and her fortune. Marfil wants Max and Larry to call a lawyer, but Larry says that it's an act of justice. Marfil implores Max to do something, but Max refuses. He says they will leave the mansion immediately. I had some trouble understanding what the judge says, but I think he's saying to calm down, that there will be a trial. Fedora tells Max that this is just the beginning, she won't rest until O is in prison.

At psycho mansion, O and Yo are frantically throwing halter tops and rayon dresses into suitcases while O whines about how her life is in ruins. Paola is driving her nuts. Yolanda is telling her to leave quickly so that she won't have to go to jail. Enter Granny DS, who wants to know if O is going on a trip. O tries really hard to lift her eyebrows in response.

***WHAT IN THE WORLD?*** Sweet piano music plays as Paola and Pancho sign their wedding documents. Pancho looks like he doesn't have a care in the world. Rene and Sylvia are there to witness it. This is some crazy scene.

Jump to casa Soriano, where Diego is telling Lala that his brother can't get married to Paola without divorcing Caramelo because he'll go to prison.

Back to Octavia's bedroom, where she tells Granny DS that she's going on a trip and that she hopes she won't have to see Granny's face ever again. Yolanda, who's still wearing the lumpy oatmeal sweater, tells her to be careful, and good luck.

Marfil, Larry, and Max are in the living room discussing the day's events. Marfil doesn't understand why they don't call their lawyers. Enter Octavia, who tells them that she's outta there. She's not spending the rest of her days in prison. Marfil tells her to stay and fight, but Octavia says her children are a disgrace. Her daughter is marrying a servant's son. She turns on her heels and walks out of the room with her snazzy lavender suitcase in tow.

Fedora is telling Diana and Gaby that the justice has begun, she's going to pay for all of the pain she's caused. Gaby and Diana are still concerned about Larry and Max. It's pretty much the same discussion they always have... nothing new. Except that Fedora gives them a little teaser that soon they will learn the truth. Cut to commercial.

When we return from commercial, we're still at casa Soriano where Fedora is telling them that what they will learn will be very important.

Cut to the courthouse, where the judge is congratulating Pancho y Paola. Rene and Sylvia are both looking nervous and weird, as usual. Come to think of it - why don't we see this couple together more often? They're perfect for each other! I digress... Paola is so happy she jumps into Rene's arms, which Sylvia uses as an excuse to tackle Pancho. Pancho breaks away long enough to kiss Paola and promise that she's the only woman for him.

Back at the mansion, Larry and Yolanda are discussing Paola's marriage. Yolanda says that Paola is crazier each day. Max goes off on a rant about how dysfunctional the family is. Mama's going to prison and soon the rest of the family will be in the street.

In Bruna's room, Marfil is complaining about the downfall of the Irazabals. She can't believe that Paola is marrying the son of a servant. Bruna's not surprised - it's become a custom for them to marry servants.

We're transported to casa Soriano, where Fedora is preparing to tell Gaby and Diana the truth, when Granny arrives and interrupts them to tell them about the latest emergency - Pancho is going to marry Paola!

Back at Lala's house, Lala and Diego are discussing the Paola/Pancholon fracaso (disaster). Pancho arrives and Lala asks if what Nancy told her is true - is it true that he married Paola. He tells her that it's true. (Does anyone else find it odd that this newlywed has returned to his mama's house immediately after the ceremony, sans bride?)

We return to the Irazabal living room, where Yolanda and Max are having a pity party about the recent turn of events, while Larry thinks that Max should do something. Max wants no part of it, he's too worried about how he's going to support his ugly sweater habit now that they're broke. He polishes off his drink and walks out.

At casa Soriano, Fedora is telling Gaby, Diana, and Granny that if it's true that Pancho has married Paola without divorcing Caramelo, they shouldn't tell her because it will be too painful for her.

Max has gone to his room to take a little siesta when Marfil storms in ready to rumble. He tells her to get out, he wants to be alone.

Now we jump to Ignacio's apartment where Camila's telling him that he has to do something about Diana framing him. Enter Sylvia, who tells them that she can't tell them where she's been because it's a secret of Paola, and she won't tell. Camila threatens to remove her wig, so Sylvia tells Camila that Paola has married a MDH - one of the dancers from bar Don Paco.

Back at Lala's house, Lala is laying into Pancho about getting married without being divorced. He says that it's just a secret between them... Paola doesn't know that he was already married. He doesn't know why he did it, he was just crazy. He promises mama that everything will be fine. Poor mama, I suspect that she's heard this line of bull a few times before. He wants to bring his new bride to Lala's house to live, but she forbids it.

Fedora wants to change the subject from Pancho & Caramelo and discuss her plans for the perfume factory. She suggests that Diana and Gaby come to work with her. Then when she gets her mansion back, they can all live together! Diana shoots her down by telling her that she already has a job at the hospital. She would love to work at the perfume factory, but her true profession is nursing. Sappy violins begin to play.

Luscious Larry is telling Max that he has no problem with losing everything they own, but he doesn't want to lose Gaby to Kike. Cue Larry and Gaby's theme song as he says that he's going to find her and apologize. Max tells him not to waste any time, to go now and get his wife back. Cut to commercial.

Pobre Caramelo is crying to Jorge about Pancho's infidelity. He was the love of her life.

Pancho is pleading with Lala to let Paola live with them. Lala refuses and slaps his face when he won't drop it. Diego, who's suddenly the voice of reason, steps in and tries to get him to understand what he's done. Pancho says that he knows that this is a disaster, but he doesn't know what to do now.

Fedora tells Gaby and Diana that she'll see them at the office tomorrow at 8. Gaby reminds her that before Granny arrived, she was about to tell them something important... Fedora says that they'll discuss it later. Just then the phone rings - Gaby answers, so obviously it's for her. It's Larry. Cue the theme song.

Sweet violins play as Pancho sweet talks his mama into letting his new wife live with them. Diego says that it's not Paola's fault, so she should be allowed to live there. By the end of the scene, Lala's smooth talking sons talk her into this bizarre arrangement.

At the mansion, Yoland is telling Nancy that she doesn't know if Octavia will come back, but she knows that Paola won't. Rene arrives and wants to know why his bomboncito is crying. She wants to know why he lied to her, why he let her marry Pancho. He says Paola's in love, he couldn't stop her, and pulls Yolanda in for a very stiff looking hug.

Here we are in Bruna's room where Marfil receives a call from Andres. She tells Bruna to leave so they can talk. He wants to know what she's done with his wife. She assures him that his wife is still alive.

Larry tells Gaby that he's called to say that he loves her, but she doesn't believe him. She thinks that he's calling because of what's happening with Fedora. He says that Fedora has nothing to do with the two of them, he loves her with all his heart. He wants to see her and talk to her. She agrees to come to the mansion, but when she hangs up she says that she loves him to, but their love is impossible.

Diana is telling baby Max that what's happening is justice, but it hurts because she still loves his papa. It's basically the same thing she says to herself everytime she's alone. This girl needs to pick up the pieces and move on!

At the mansion, Max tells the Irazabal crew, sans Octavia, that he's sure that in a few days they'll need to leave the mansion. Marfil wants to fight, but Max refuses. He proposes that they get an apartment. Granny DS is infeliz because she can't take all of her dolls with her.

Here we are at Lala's house, where the blushing bride is checking out her new digs. She thought bubbles that it doesn't matter that it's not as luxurious as her home, what matters is that she'll be with Pancho. Lala enters and they have a little heart to heart about how Paola is going to change - he'll be a good husband.

Back to casa Soriano where Pancho's marriage is still the topic of the day. Granny doesn't know what he was thinking, and Diego is very worried about him. Everyone agrees to keep the secret from the Irazabals so that Pancho will have some time to get divorced from Caramelo before they find out.

Max is in his bedroom drowning his sorrows, drinking so that he can forget Diana.

The next morning Fedora takes the reins at the perfume factory. All of the extras on the set act as employees so that she can hold a meeting where she tells them they will all keep their jobs and get raises. Gaby and Diana will be her right hands, and she promises that many things will change. Emilio will also be staying, as Fedora knows that he's a professional and that he has good references. Isn't it odd that she would accept his references, considering that they would be from the evil Irazabal clan? Dios mio, this lady is crazy. Credits roll.

La Fea Más Bella #245 4/3/07 "Never say Never"

The ladies of the cuartel are discuss how to make Lety fall in love with Aldo. Fernando, covering his eyes, enters the restroom. He keeps them covered until the cuartel confirms that no one is naked. (I don't know about you, but I generally don't get naked in the bathroom at work! Such a man's fantasy!) When Fernando questions the cuartel's actions, they explain that they're in the bathroom to talk about business. Since they've played right into his hands, Fernando goes along with the game. He sits down and asks the ladies what they think about Aldo remaining in the business. The members of the cuartel glance nervously at each other. They then flock around Fernando and sing Aldo's praises. Fernando pretends to agree, to the cuartel's joy. Juana tells Fernando that Aldo wrote a dedication to Lety in the book. This causes him to "hop" away from the bench. For some reason, Sara tells Fernando that the book with the dedication is sitting on Lety's desk. Dr. Jekyll goes away and out comes Mr. Hyde. Fernando becomes very cold and tells the cuartel that he's heard enough and it's time for them to return to work. They freeze. He leaves. Irmita and the cuartel cross themselves, nervous because now Fernando has an idea of what they are up to.

Out in the secretaries lobby, Fernando breezes past Alicia. She says that he looks sick. He agrees. He's sick with jealousy. Alicia (oh so intelligently) asks if Fernando wants her to call a doctor...or Marcia! No, he says he's not crazy, he just went into Conceptos other board room. He briskly walks away leaving Alicia to wonder if he's going crazy.

Fernando walks into Lety's office, complaining about the dedication in Aldo's book. He conjectures about what Aldo would write: "Your lips are richer in flavor than poblano. To kiss you is more flavorful than chocina pibil. (A dish made out of pork.) Fernando searches through the cabinets for the book. He finds one, but it's not "The Flavor of Life"! Lety: "Don Fernando is incredible with me. When he protects me tooth and nail. When he believes with me and when he pleads with me not to abandon him because he needs me. He, who has everything, needs a woman like me. I don't know how to tell him that I also need him. He needs me for work and I need him for love." Fernando realizes that in his hands he holds Lety's diary.

Alicia talks to her image in the mirror, just like the witch in Snow White! Marcia observes Alicia doing this and asks if Alicia is crazy. Alicia says that the crazy one is Fernando. First, he broke up with Marcia because he's still in love with the mustached corn cake and now he followed the cuartel of witches into the women's bathroom and said he wanted to be part of the cuartel! Now he's in Lety's office. Marcia wonders what he's doing there since Lety's in Tomas's office. Marcia decides it would be better not to meddle. She decides to leave. Before she does she hands Alicia some papers to file. Alicia looks at them as though Marcia's trying to hand her a dirty rag. Alicia says she's too busy for that type of thing. Marcia drops the papers on Alicia's desk and leaves.

An now, a classic soap opera/telenovela moment! Watch as the forlorn woman, left by her man, talks to herself and takes long pauses, just to look extra sad! Marcia asks herself what do to do, and then enters the elevator.

In Tomas's office, Lety freaks out. Dona Marcia was right, this is all her fault. She's not qualified! Aldo tries to calm Lety, saying the campaign is going very well. Lety's still upset. She cannot believe that she didn't monitor Luigi more closely. Aldo thinks he should share that blame. Lety replies and says that Aldo upheld his part, the problem is Conceptos' debt. Tomas agrees. Also walks over to Lety. Rather then hugging her or talking to her, he decides to pet her just like a cat. He thinks they should go over this tomorrow, when they can come up with some solutions. Aldo and Lety leave Tomas's office; Lety complains all the way.

Lety and Aldo interrupt Martha talking to the cuartel about Fernando. The cuartel shows concern, but Lola slips and says "We haven't said anything to Don Fernando." Apparently, the way to get Lety out of a funk is to mention Fernando and piss her off. She snaps immediately to attention and asks what they are talking about. Sara immediately recovers and says not to pay
attention to Sara. She turns her attention to Lety. Aldo tells the cuartel not to worry; he'll take care of Lety. After he and Lety leave the room, the rest of the cuartel scolds Lola.

Like the bad boy he really is, Fernando continues to read Lety's diary. "The engine of my life and my feelings should be work. The only think that can save me is working for him. I'm going to be the shadow and the breath of Don Fernando." Fernando overhears Aldo encouraging Lety to enter her office. He hides the diary just in time for Lety and Aldo to enter the room. Lety asks Fernando why he's in her office. "Our office", Aldo corrects her. (oooooooohhhh, my face just got really hot! You overbearing, co-dependent woman creating man! I could take yoga, burn incense and chant everyday and I would still want to punch you for that comment!)

Irmita still thinks something is going on with Fernando. In all the years she's worked at Conceptos she's never seen a President in the office. (Yeah, I'm guessing that wasn't a popular place for Humberto.) Juana thinks it's obvious that Fernando wants to know about Lety and Aldo. Sara asks if this means he's jealous. Irma goes one step further and thinks this might mean that Fernando is in love with Lety. The rest of the cuartel doesn't buy this theory.

Fernando explains that he was looking for the balance. Lety asks him which balance it is that he wants. The one from the last month, he explains. She pulls a folder off her desk and hands it to him. Before Fernando can leave, Lety thinks it would be a good time to talk about the balance from the expo. Fernando thinks it would be better to talk about it at another time. Aldo smugly says that this doesn't appear to be a good time to talk about it. Fernando finally agrees with Aldo. He leaves.

Alicia watches Fernando walk through the secretaries area. She tells him that she's worried about him. He leaves without hearing her argument.

Tomas talks to himself, about how the balance just isn't fair. His phone rings. Since he's so excited, it must be Alicia. It is and she wants to leave. Tomas gurgles some cologne and takes off for his woman.

Aldo continues his sexual harassment and massages Lety's shoulders. He thinks that everyone should share the blame. Lety points out that Marcia and Fernando were gone on there trips during the preparations. Aldo decides Omar would be the best one to blame. He worked closely with Luigi and should have observed the over-spending. "Yeah, but we're talking about Omar Carvajal." Lety replies. Lety acknowledges that she is the president and this is her fault. Aldo leans in and says that this type of thought will destroy her and that's not good.

Fernando continues to read Lety's diary. "I renounce love. I already confirmed that no one will fall in love with me. A beautiful woman has won simply because she's beautiful. And I am ugly, but Don Fernando doesn't fix on that. To the contrary he needs me." Fernando's eyes well with tears. He confirms to himself that he needs Lety, in order to stay alive.

Aldo goes on about happiness and how life without it sucks. He walks away and asks Lety to move with him to Acapulco to work and live with him. She could work as his business manager in his restaurant. Aldo knows how to cook the finest dishes, but he has no idea about finances. Lety stands and says there is no way she could possibly go to Acapulco. Aldo corrects her again and says that it's not that she can't. It's that she doesn't want to go. Yes, she confirms, because she has an obligation to Conceptos. Aldo says that her only obligation is to Fernando. Aldo points out that Lety quivered when she handed Fernando the balance sheet. She thinks it has more to do with the fact that Fernando was snooping around her office. Aldo says that he'll give Lety one opportunity to show that Fernando does not interest her anymore - she should come with him to Acapulco.

Fernando's still reading. Lety - "In these moments I'm the most important woman for him. More than his own girlfriend. But at the same time, I don't exist like a woman. I heard him say that he doesn't hope to encounter the woman of his life. If only Fernando knew that I am here."

Lety leaves her desk again. Now she says that her obligation is to Don Humberto Mendiola. Aldo recognizes a losing battle. He goes back to how hard she worked the last month. Is this how she wants to live, leaving her life at Conceptos? Lety says yes, it has to do with her word and her honor. Aldo offers Lety a new office in Acapulco, with a view of the ocean. He paints a picture of total harmony. They can recuperate their happiness; she won't have to suffer here anymore. Lety agrees that this does sound reasonable. Aldo keeps going. In Acapulco they can enjoy their freedom, just them and their sea.

Maybe Alicia is right; maybe Fernando is really going crazy. He sees an apparition of Lety and reaches for her hand. She pulls it away. She talks about how he never realized that the love of his life was right there. She never figured out how to show him. Fernando agrees and confirms that Lety is the love of his life. He stands by her as she begins to recite another entry from her diary. It's from the night they first kissed. Fernando begs Lety to forgive him. He leans in for a kiss, but Lety isn't there.

Lety thinks about her life without Conceptos. Aldo continues to extol the virtues of Acapulco. Lety asks him to let her think about it. Aldo agrees, but says that Lety must remember that she's the most important thing. They wave goodbye to each other.

Lety walks through the secretaries lobby. Fernando waits for her to enter the elevator. He leaves his office and goes to the bat cave. He continues to read. "Lety" reappears. He tells her that he wishes he could turn back time, so that none of this had ever happened. Lety continues to recite the words of the diary. Fernando reads with her about when she first confessed to him how much she loved him. "Lety" takes over at the part when she talks about how she's been hurt by love before, but she has faith that this time everything will turn out okay because he's a great man and she believes in him. Fernando sits on the floor, unable to read anymore. "Lety" continues to recite about the night they first made love. Fernando decides to read some more. He picks up with the night they made love for the second time. He cannot believe the line "men clean and honest, like Fernando Mendiola." He asks himself repeatedly "What did I do?"

Lety searches her desk at home for the diary. She realizes that she left it at the office. Julieta enters and asks what is wrong. Lety tells her mom that the expo was a success, but they didn't make enough money. Julieta cannot believe this. She also realizes that Lety has another worry. Lety tells Julieta asked Lety to live with him in Acapulco.

Julieta doesn't like the idea of Lety living so far from home. Lety says she doesn't know what to do. She's still very much in love with Aldo. She cannot say this to Aldo, because she doesn't want to hurt him. She just can't love Aldo. Julieta understands this but she doesn't think it's fair that Lety's still in love with Fernando. Julieta thinks that her daughter must forget about Fernando.

It's the next day at Conceptos and Fernando is still in the bat cave. He wakes, asking for Lety. He immediately opens the diary. The first entry is from the day Lety found "The Letter." Fernando pulls himself into the chair and cries some more. He cries and his tears fall onto a drawing in the diary.

For breakfast, Tomas and Alicia go to La Noir. Alicia eats a steak and has a glass of red wine. Tomas cannot believe she's going to eat that after all she ate the night before. Alicia distinguishes between a good appetite and hunger. Alicia talks about her empty refrigerator and this somehow makes Tomas remember the night they slept together. Alicia scolds him, because it will make her throw up. That night was horrible. Tomas agrees that they have contradictory opinions. Alicia reminds him that he did not leave the check that he promised to leave. Tomas thinks that they have many nights to fix that. "Not even in your dreams will you sleep with me again." (Never a good thing to say in novelaland, Alicia!) Tomas points out all the nice things that he's done for her. He toasts himself. Alicia continues to eat.

We interrupt this presentation for a commercial break...Lety drives up in her Focus. She gets out of the car and Celso compliments her...car! Lety confirms that the car is very pretty and very good with gasoline. She puts Celso in charge of the car. He says he'll care for it just like it were his. Celso clumsily pulls the car into its spot.

Fernando talks around his office, saying that he is the worst thing that ever existed. He should never have been born. He begins to throw things around the office. This scares the cuartel. They urge Sara to check it out. She whispers Fernando's name through the door but he shouts for her to leave him alone.

Alicia comes into the room, talking all about her meal. The cuartel isn't interested. They want Sara to call Omar. He's the only one who can go into that office. AT that moment, Omar glibly enters the room. Sara grabs him and says that Omar needs to take care of Fernando. She throws him into the office. Omar sees the one vase on the floor and a dejected Fernando standing by the back door. He asks what's wrong, but Fernando doesn't want to play today. Omar recognizes that Fernando didn't even go home to sleep. Fernando tells Omar that he wants to be alone. He really should be in hell.

Tomas enters Lety's office. (Anyone else notice that the painting is upside down even though no one turned it?) Lety notices that he is unusually happy. He is because he ate with his woman. Tomas wants to change the subject and leaps forward to the chairs in front of Lety's desk to tell her that he went over the accounts and everything is not lost. They have some pending accounts. This doesn't mean that they'll make the full payment, but the debt will be less. Lety thinks this won't help. She tells Tomas that Aldo asked her to go to Acapulco, but she doesn't know what to do. She would love to leave, but... Tomas thinks it's a good idea for Lety to go to Acapulco. It's time she does something for the most person...herself. Tomas says that he can take charge of Conceptos with a little help. He'll only leave Conceptos if his woman leaves with him. Lety rushes to him and thanks him. They dance for joy.

Aldo talks on the phone about returning to Acapulco to open the restaurant. He's going with a special person. He's been waiting a long time for this moment. (and we've been waiting a long time for you to just leave!) The gentleman on the other end informs Aldo that there is a chain that is very interested in purchasing the restaurant. It has an excellent offer. Aldo says that he will never sell his dream.

The cuartel wonder about Don Fernando. He's been like this since yesterday. Irma, the only perceptive one of the bunch, knows that this has to do with Lety. She knows that Fernando is jealous of Aldo. Lety enters the crowd and asks about what's going on with the cuartel. Sara says they're talking about the novela they watched last night. Martha decides it's time to tell the truth. Yesterday, they told Fernando that Lety was going to marry Aldo. Lety is muy impactada.

Duelo: Monday, April, 2: Cursed be that Cursed Thelma! (Maldita sea esa Maldita Thelma!)

We start on a big smooch between Alina and Emilio in the chapel. It seems unforced this time, with both parties participating. Likewise, when Emilio pulls back, telling Alina that “we shouldn’t” (given his secret promise to renounce her to save Angel’s life) and Alina’s feeling that “he’s married, they both simultaneously break from the embrace. Alina runs off, Emilio looks, well, the way he always looks when he’s supposed to be unhappy. Over to Soledad in the barn, wrapped in a blanket sitting on some bales of hay. The cold barn is not doing much for the bags under her eyes and Adela is no longer doing her hair. Adela rushes in to tell her that the Patron has left (for Mariana’s supposed wedding in Mexico City). Adela is in a big hurry because Sergio is on high alert. She tells Soledad that she wishes she could help her escape. She’s afraid that Soledad will go crazy being held captive here. Soledad smiles wanly and says “that’s what Alvaro would want!” She tells Adela that she’s going to let her in on something---she has found a secret exit to the barn! “I found my freedom!”

Over to Luba who is kicking it with her former student, the brujo. (male witch, warlock, whatever…) He asks her whether she’s thought through this curse on Thelma. Luba responds that if “that woman stays in Sierra Escondida, my son will die. There’s nothing to think about.” OK, says the brujo,” I will go get the necessary herbs for the incantation.” Orange flashback to Luba mixing some herbs in a mortar and pestle and telling somebody that their son will be safe, with this preparation. “The wisdom of my ancestors is in this one.” She spoons the green crap into a bottle. At that moment, the cacique rushes in and exclaims, “Luba, don’t fail me! You have to save my son!” Luba takes the bottle of green stuff and covers it with a cloth. She tells him to follow her instructions to the letter. Flash back to the present. The Brujo tells her that she can’t be part of the ritual. “Not even your saints must know you are doing this…or you will be without friends.” Luba looks wide eyed at him. “You mean the la Virgen de la Paz?” (The Virgin of Peace—that must be the picture of the Virgin she keeps a shrine to.) The Brujo says “She will understand. You are doing this for your son.” Luba still looks worried.

Don Loco is en route to San Mateo in his carriage with a driver and an armed man up front. He hallucinates that he sees Soledad escaping and yells at them to stop. He gets out, like the hallucination she is, she vanishes. Don Loco is perturbed and tells the men he has to go back to the hacienda.

Over at La Rinconada, in the kitchen, Jaime and Vera are having a discussion. Jaime is telling Vera that something is up with Thelma and her mortal hatred of Gaspar. He saw them talking together at the stable and heard them arranging to meet later. He wants to get to the bottom of this. Vera is skeptical and a little afraid of Jaime messing with Thelma. Jaime tells her not to worry, that he can take care of himself. Alina walks in, sad from having left Emilio for the umpteenth time with their passion unresolved. Both Jaime and Vera notice and ask what’s wrong. Vera suggests that Emilio has treated her badly again and Alina says “no.” Vera kicks Jaime out “This is a woman thing…” She sits Flor down and goes into the litany of stuff Emilio has done to her that we all know so well---“He was rude to you, he treated you badly, he made fun of you…” Alina shakes her head no. “We kissed.” Vera looks puzzled. Isn’t this a good thing?

Back to the Luba and the Brujo, whose name is Macario. Luba is explaining to him the depth of her feeling of hatred for Thelma. Macario warns her that she is dealing with darkness (tinieblas). She’ll have trouble sleeping at night, nightmares…etc. Luba insists she doesn’t care.”My son comes first. ..Everybody already thinks that I’m an evil witch, that I mistreated Flor. Well, now their ideas about me will come true.” Macario says, picking up a candle, “OK, then. Tonight under the light of the moon, the curse will be made on the Senora Thelma.” Luba whispers “Thelma….”

At la Rinconada, Nurse Susi is feeling Angel’s pulse and is ecstatic at the miracle that brought him back to life. Angel is sure it’s because his brother prayed for his life. He smiles broadly. There’s a knock at the door and it is Emilio himself. Emilio asks Angel how it is to be back in the land of the living. Angel says he has no words to express how happy he is. Emilio tells Angel that he awoke from the coma upon hearing the voice of Alina. “I guess that shows how much she means to you” says Emilio. “Are you still thinking about marrying her?” Emilio asks. Angel looks away, troubled.

In the kitchen, Vera is still talking to Alina. “ I knew it! Says Vera. Emilio loves you, not his wife.” Alina clucks back at her that they can’t be lovers—Emilio is married and on top of that, he’s about to have a child. Vera shakes her head and says. “Who knows if Thelma’s baby is his?” Alina scolds back that she shouldn’t say such things. Vera gets up from the table and walking away says “You can think what you want, but nobody will convince me that that woman is trustworthy.”

Don Loco, his bodyguard and his driver are still paused on the road. The bodyguard asks DL if he is sure that he wants to go back to the hacienda. After all, Sergio is guarding the Senora…” DL looks confused then he agrees. If he can’t trust his people (meaning Sergio) then he will go crazy. And he won’t let Soledad get the better of him…” Loco Loco Loco! He gets in, they drive on.
Thelma walks in on the Singing Aunt belting out one of her horrible vocal exercises. SA is busy packing Thelma’s suitcase as a surprise. She asks where Thelma went and Thelma responds that she went for a walk to calm her nerves. SA asks why she’s so overwrought already? she just woke up! Thelma says, “Guess who I’ve seen already?” SA looks puzzled. “None other than that idiot Gaspar!“ Says Thelma. SA says, “what’s the big deal? Lets get out of here and then we’ll never see him again!” Thelma replies “Where in the heck do you get the idea that we’re leaving?” SA says, “Well, Poor Angel must be dead by now…” Thelma gives her a nasty look. “Angel woke up from his coma, which means that we are going to have to stay in this cursed place.” SA is impactado and falls back whimpering on the couch.
How else do you think she would have reacted to being impactado?

Emilio and Angel are still deep in conversation. Emilio presses him on the issue on whether he wants to marry Alina. Angel asks him, “who are you worried about, yourself or us?” Just then Sexy Nurse , Susi who is wearing a white sweater set today, with the cardigan buttoned to the top but with the tank top underneath clearly visible and a pair of tight white pants interrupts. “It’s time for your pills, she tells Angel.” As she administers the meds, Emilio says he’s concerned about Angel’s future and that of Alina’s. Angel says he’s not prepared to give an answer at the moment. Emilio pours himself a glass of water. Emilio says he only wants to know if he is sure about how he feels about her. Angel says he can’t be sure of anything at the moment. (He was at deaths door in a freaking coma, Emilio! Cut him a little slack!) Emilio says, “well when you’re better, I’ll be waiting for your answer.” (Jerk Jerk Jerk. I thought you were weeping over this guy. Now you want to give him a heart attack from stress?) He leaves him “to rest.”

In Mexico City, Mariana wakes up from her coma. Dr. Love is there at that precise moment. She gets the sudden realization that she is completely paralyzed. She can’t even talk. Dr. Love tries to calm her by saying that she can’t move, she was gravely ill…she needs to calm and rest. Mariana begins to panic and gasp. The heart monitor goes crazy. Then it flatlines! We go to commercial. Maybe we can call this an “impactado for quadriplegics?”

Out of commercial. Dr. Love and his crack medical staff have gotten Mariana stabilized. Dr. Love is relieved. (Maybe he likes her better this way, unable to talk back or resist his charm?) He asks the nurse for a sedative so that she’ll sleep until morning.

At Malena and Mariana’s apartment, Malena is talking on the phone to a client of their seamstress business. She is apologizing for the lateness of a job and is telling the Senora that she’ll be right over with the dress. The dress is in fact, already in a cleaners bag and Malena hops out the door as soon as she puts the phone down. As she turns the corner, Arcadio walks up to the apartment building. He remembers the building but not the apartment where Mariana lives. Presumably he is there to deliver the bad news. A pizza guy goes into the building while Arcadio wanders around outside scratching his head.

Back at la Rinconada, Thelma has changed and SA is busy putting the clothes she was packing back in the closet. SA laments aloud that “who would have thought it…Angel rose from the dead…It’s like a miracle.” “It’s like a curse, says Thelma. Who would have thought that we were so close to leaving this horrible mountain…this cursed weakling (enclenque) had to save himself…!” SA says “I can’t believe you are giving up so easily, girl!” “What more can I do?” asks Thelma “Emilio won’t leave until Angel is better.” SA says that with Angel as sickly as he is, that will never happen. Thelma asks what time it is and SA tells her it’s noon. Thelma remarks that it is almost time to go meet Gaspar. SA blanches, afraid that Gaspar will hurt her, but Thelma says, more likely the other way around. After all, she has power over him, she’s carrying his child!

Luba is out gathering herbs and is deep in conversation with her “best friend,” the Virgen de la Paz. She’s telling her that she knows she’s doing evil but she’s begging her to understand. “if someone has to be punished. She says, punish me, but not my child. Not my Gaspar…” Suddenly, she catches sight of Gaspar, heading for meeting place. She throws down her herbs and sneaks behind him.

Gaspar goes into the casita where he and Thelma are supposed to meet. Gaspar says aloud that if Thelma doesn’t show up he’s going to, well, he shows how he would wring her neck. But then he remembers that he can’t do that—it would hurt his baby. Then he decides that what he will do is go back to the cave, wait for the baby to be born and THEN wring her neck…

Rosita and her mother in law to be (who looks young enough to be her sister) Carmen are chatting at Rosita and Braulio’s casita. Carmen is sweeping the floor. Rosita tells her she shouldn’t be working but Carmen says that Rosita is the one who should be off her feet.” It’s the first months of pregnancy that are the hardest.””Then again,” says Carmen “you must be about six months pregnant?” says Carmen. (Ah ha, Carmen is no fool—she’s guessing that the math isn’t quite right here). Rosita doesn’t answer directly. Then Doña Carmen says “Wow, Rosita, you took a real risk that Santos might not come back and your son would be without a father…you must have known that you were pregnant when he left, right?…” Rosita says, “Hey, let’s listen to some music! I love Rancheros, don’t you?” Carmen looks at her suspiciously.

Braulio with his giant hat and Santos are out walking by the river. They are talking about how somehow Carmen will have to be told the truth about Rosita’s baby. Just then, Don Max rides up in a fury. He says he was looking for Santos. He tells Braulio to beat it. Braulio, like the wuss he is, slinks off. Maximo tells Santos that he has until morning to get out of Sierra Escondida or he’ll find out why his name is “Maximo.” Santos says, nothing doing, he’s staying put right next to Rosita. And by the way, he’s going to marry her too. Max doesn’t like this and he fingers his holster. He does a “we’ll see about that” wheels his horse and leaves. Santos bites his lip.In her room at LR, Alina is touching her lips, remembering the big smooch with Emilio that opened this episode. She chides herself about feeling this way. She asks “WHY WHY did you kiss me Emilio?”
Emilio is in his room at LR, studying the heart charm that he gave to Alina, that he took from her when he thought she was Flor and had stolen it, that Thelma then stole from Emilio, that he ripped from Thelma’s neck and which now is back in Emilio’s possession… He hides the heart charm as Orlando walks in the door. Orlando tells him that the rest of the guys left for Puebla. Emilio says he’s been thinking about leaving for Puebla too. Orlando says he can take charge of the highway project if Emilio wants to go. Emilio says as soon as Angel is better, he’ll go. Orlando asks him if he’s trying to get away from something. Emilio says yes, “I’m trying to escape from Alina. I can’t be near her anymore. I can help you from Puebla, but I can’t be near her. I can’t control myself.” Orlando asks if something happened between them. “Yes, says Emilio, we kissed.” (Haven’t they kissed a million other times???? Or maybe he means that this time he didn’t have to force her to kiss him.)

Thelma has arrived at the casita where Gaspar awaits her. (Jaime has too, he’s hidden behind a tree trying to observe). Thelma comes in and Gaspar runs up to her to try to get a kiss. Thelma rebuffs him. She tells him that she doesn’t want to see him at the house again. “If we’re going to meet, let it be here.” Gaspar agrees. Gaspar makes a ridiculous kissy face and sticks his butt out trying to reach her to kiss her. Thelma closes her eyes and grimaces. Gaspar takes a sniff of his own armpit to see what may be causing her repulsion. He decides that it’s not him and he goes for it. Thelma pushes him away after he barely makes contact. Thelma says, “OK, that’s enough…time to go!” Gaspar begs her to stay. Thelma argues that somebody will see them and he’s going to get punished by Emilio. Poor Gaspar Blurts out that Emilio might punish him and his Mama by kicking them off the land. Thelma picks up on this fear of Gaspars and plays it up. Gaspar innocently tells her the story of how his Mama created a potion to save the Cacique’s son. But the son died anyway and people wanted to burn Luba for being a witch. (Everybody always needs the witch, for good luck, for money, to get laid, to curse their enemies, etc. but when stuff goes wrong, It’s always BURN THE WITCH. Typical…) “So…you’re telling me your mom killed somebody (a Christian…a non-indian person?) and that she’s a murderer? Gaspar protests that she’s twisting his words. He realizes he shouldn’t have opened his mouth. Thelma is extremely pleased. She even kisses him. She tells him not to worry. Hasn’t she been able to keep the secret of the his baby?

Meanwhile, Jaime is outside marveling at the meeting between Thelma and Gaspar. A short distance off, Luba is furious seeing her stupid son (hijo Zopenco) leaving from his tryst with Thelma. Gaspar walks out the door curling his biceps and smiling.

Emilio is still talking to Orlando. Emilio says he regrets the kiss, that he is dying inside, torn by his love for Alina on one hand and his responsibility to his kid on the other. Orlando says he has the answer to all his problems: forget Alina! Emilio accuses him of being interested in Alina himself. Orlando doesn’t dispute it but he points out that Emilio is married, even if unhappily, and he knows he is a man of his word. Emilio agrees that it wouldn’t be manly of him to abandon his child. Emilio says he’s made up his mind. Orlando asks, “To do what?” “I’m going to talk to my brother.” He hurries out of the room. Orlando gives one of those great Orlando expressions. First he smiles, thinking he’s won, then he looks puzzled “Did I win?” Then he looks concerned. “Maybe this is just headed somewhere else.”

Thelma is still at the Casita. She’s locking up. She hears someone coming in. Thinking it’s Gaspar, she says “I thought you left.” She turns around. It’s Luba. “Yes, Luba the witch” says Luba. “I’ve come to talk to the fairy of the Devil’s Cave.” (Gosh, isn’t that the greatest line ever??!)

Jaime is still outside leaning against a big tree trying to spy on the doings at the Casita. He’s totally confused that Thelma, Gaspar and now Luba should be meeting there. Rather than getting closer to try to listen, he just decides that the whole thing is just too weird and then runs away.

Rosita and Alina are out walking. Alina has told Rosita her Emilio troubles and Rosita is filling her in about the big lie they told Carmen. Rosita is sure that Carmen doesn’t believe them because she is always asking questions. (Yeah well most people would if Rosita told them she was six months pregnant. She looks about as pregnant as Thelma does.) Alina thinks honesty is the best policy. Rosita argues not when your supposed grandchild is actually your son’s half-brother. Does that make Rosita his step-something as well as his girlfriend? Ow, my head hurts. Thank goodness we know it was Castulo who raped Rosita and not Don Max, despite his supposed confession.

Luba is confronting Thelma in the Casita. She tells her how nice it is that Gaspar is still enjoying the attentions of his “fairy.” Thelma tries to deflect this charge but Luba is on the warpath. She tells Thelma not to mess with her. Gaspar, aside from being handsome and big is her SON. Although she’s sure that for trampy Thelma, Gaspar was just another notch in the bedpost. Thelma gets mad at this insult. Luba tells her not to lie. She saw what happened at the casita (Wait, is she talking about what she thought she saw at this casita, or at Castulo’s place or Jose’s old place where she and Castulo used to meet?) Luba wheedles her and smoothes Thelma’s hair. She says, “We witches know about evil.” When Thelma begins to protest again, Luba says, she knows what happened between her and Gaspar. Thelma says “You weren’t there.” And she begins to recount the story of what happened that night. Thelma says she was angry, jealous that Emilio was with another woman. She got drunk and she didn’t know what she was doing. Luba’s eyes widen. “So then it’s true!” Apparently even though Gaspar said it a million times now that she has confirmation, it’s a bit of a shock. Thelma starts screaming that the child she is carrying’s father is “that cursed son of yours.” Luba hauls off and slaps Thelma (Whack!) and says “Cursed be you!” (Maldita tu!) I think Luba is starting to have second thoughts about curses at the moment.

Back to tranquility. At la Rinconada, Nurse Susi is helping Angel get up and walk around. (This really is an amazing recovery if the guy was in a coma as of this morning and now he’s dressed and walking.) He has to sit down, he’s a bit dizzy. Susi tells him it’s normal because of all the time he spent in bed. Emilio comes in and tells Susi that he wants to talk to Angel alone. Susi leaves and Emilio sits down. Emilio tells him that he’s come to a decision regarding him and Alina. Angel tries to interrupt, saying he doesn’t want to talk about it yet. He’s not exactly in shape to ask her to marry him. Emilio says not to worry, that the best specialists will see him in Puebla. Emilio tells him that he’s realized that Alina isn’t for him. He’s got a life next to Thelma and a baby on the way. He can’t have Alina. And if Alina makes Angel happy, if she gives him a reason to fight his illness and live, well then…He’s going to give her up. This time, for good. Angel is weakly impactado into commercial.

Angel can’t quite believe what he’s hearing. “Before, you opposed my loving Alina…” Yes,” says Emilio, “but that was before.” “I thought you were just infatuated with her. Now I realize that you are really in love with her.” Emilio goes to put a blanket on Angel. Angel says “It’s true, I do love her. But I was very sick…” Emilio launches into his speech about how he’s going to get better, how he’s going to see the best specialists in Puebla, etc. Angel is still doubtful but clearly pleased by the idea. He says, if I get better, I would like to give Alina “all those things that others have taken away from her, her money, her position…and make her happy.” Emilio smiles and says,” I know you have what it takes to make her happy.” OK, that was a little creepy.

Luba and Thelma are still having it out in the Casita. Thelma is now shouting that yes, her child is Gaspar’s. She says that she bought his silence with a kiss. A kiss that still disgusts her when she thinks about it. And that’s the way it was in the Devil’s cave. She hadn’t been fully conscious of whose lips were on hers or she never would have consented. Luba interjects “How crude you are, that you don’t even know who is on top of you. You are not even fit to be called a woman.” Luba continues. “Don’t forget. I’m a witch. I’m going to finish you! Don’t mess with my son or you will pay..”etc. Thelma finds her footing and yells “Do what you want.” Luba says she will and launches into a curse right there and then. Then she asks Thelma. “Answer me this—What do you want with my Gaspar?”

Rosita and Alina are still out walking in the woods. Rosita is counseling divorce. What should happen is that Emilio should divorce Thelma marry Alina. He hates Thelma and loves Alina, end of story. Alina says, for the umpteenth time, “What about the baby?” Rosita points out that sooner or later, Emilio is going to leave Thelma, with or without the baby. Alina shakes her head. Rosita is tired of this whole circular discussion, just like we are. She has her own problems. She wants Alina to be happy, end of story.

Emilio is having his own interminable discussion with Angel right now. Why is he torturing his poor brother this way. I half expect him to collapse from the strain of saying the same stuff over and over again. Emilio says he doesn’t have any more hostility toward Alina. (That’s big of him.) He rehashes an old old complaint he had against Alina. Back when Emilio was in a coma instead of Angel, and Emilio ended up married to Thelma instead of Alina, Thelma told him that she paid Alina (then Flor) with a brooch to convince the priest to let Thelma marry him. (He still believes that crap?!) Angel is so disgusted by this admission by his brother that he starts coughing. He says that Alina would never do that. She did convince the priest to let Thelma marry Emilio because she was expecting his child. To give the kid a name. For no other reason. Cough Cough Cough! Emilio says that they won’t talk anymore about this. Angel insists that Emilio go to Alina and explain to her what he is doing and to ask forgiveness for the way he has treated her. Emilio looks rather grim at first then nods his head. He will do it. Angel is left musing that Emilio loved Alina but now it seems that he no longer does. He loves Alina but he knows that Alina still loves Emilio. Angel will do whatever it takes to win her love.

Thelma is responding to Luba’s question about what she wants with Gaspar. She wants nothing from Gaspar, except for his silence. “And what would happen if Emilio were to find out that the child you are carrying isn’t his? Asks Luba. “And what would happen if Alvaro Montellano found out that he is hiding a renegade murderer on his land who killed the son of a chief (a cacique).“ Luba doesn’t back down but she’s surprised that Thelma knows this. Thelma wastes no time in telling her that Gaspar told her the big secret. “If you tell Emilio, I’ll tell Don Loco and he’ll throw you off his lands. “ Luba launches into another “you better no mess with me…you don’t know what I’m capable of.” Thelma does the same. Luba says, “OK, Gaspar and I will keep quiet but don’t think you’ve won. I, Luba, curse you. You’re going to be sorry.” Thelma tells her to leave! Leave! Leave! Luba turns and slowly goes, giving her an evil eye. Thelma vows right then and there to kill Gaspar. But she’ll have to make it look like an accident, like Jose.

Luba walks into the woods, collapses on the ground crying about her poor grandchild and her poor son. She no longer cares what happens to her, she no longer cares if she gets burned to death by angry villagers. All she wants is for her grandchild to live and for Gaspar to hold him. She demands from her buddy the Virgen de la Paz, to know WHY WHY she has to keep quiet, even to poor Flor, who presumably would benefit from the information that Thelma’s baby ain’t Emilio’s. Finally, she begs the Virgen for help, to know what to do with Gaspar, to save her grandchild. Finally, it is nightfall in Sierra Escondida! As we all know, that’s when things really start to happen. (Of course we are at :52 so whatever they are, they will be happening mostly on Sylvia’s watch).

Jaime is the kitchen regaling Vera with the story of how he saw Gaspar meet with Thelma at the Casita. Not that he actually learned anything because he was standing a half mile away behind an enormous tree like the wuss that he is. But he did see Gaspar strolling out of the place with a big ole grin on his face. That’s enough to set him to thinking…Vera butts in “They’re LOVERS!” Jaime says NO no. He saw Luba go in next, after Gaspar. For sure, Thelma is cooking up something against Flor and she’s getting Luba and Gaspar to help her. (Oh yeah, that’s right, everybody thinks that Luba hates Flor and is mean to her, to keep up the pretense with Don Loco). Vera looks worried.

Emilio is wandering around his room, thinking about Angel’s words about him wanting to marry Alina to make her happy, to give her the things that were taken away from him. Then Emilio orange flashbacks the moment when he gave Alina the little Silver heart…he gave her his heart…yeah yeah we’ve seen it a thousand times already. The heart has already made its contractual appearance in this episode. He’s back in the present murmuring Alina, Alina. Suddenly he gets a constipated look on his face. I think it’s anger and frustration that he is supposed to be conveying. He yells “I have to forget her! I have to forget her!” What, he’s not even going to break furniture or anything?

Back in Mexico City, Dr. Love is visiting Malena. Malena is excusing herself for being late. She had to deliver a dress. She wants to know how Mariana is. Dr. Love tells her that Mariana is now a quadriplegic. Malena is quite impactado. One of the best I’ve seen in awhile, actually.
And we go zooming right back to the kitchen of La Rinconada. Vera and Jaime are still discussing the whole supposed Flor-Thelma-Luba plot. Vera says “One thing is for sure, that witch is bad.” At that very moment, Luba walks in and the two are struck dumb. Luba makes some crack about Jaime’s manhood (I think) and wants to know what they are staring at.

Back once again to Malena and Dr. Love. Malena wants to have a more complete medical explanation of quadriplegia, or at least that is what Dr. Love gives her. He tells her that nobody knows anything about how long she could be like this, how much damage is permanent, etc. Dr. Love suggests that they contact Mariana’s brother but Malena, who has all the good ideas, tells him No way. Alvaro doesn’t even know about Marianita. It’s better that he continue ignoring her.

Alina is looking out the window at the moon. She is remembering the conversation she had with Rosita earlier about being happy. She sighs. Yes folks that’s the signal for yet another orange flashback of a kiss. This time it’s the big beso near the Church right after Emilio promised to forget her to save his brother’s life. Or was he thanking God for saving his brother’s life after he promised…whatever. Back in the present, She sighs again and tells herself that she can’t forget his kisses.

Emilio himself is drinking Brandy with Orlando down in the great hall. Orlando wants to know what’s going on. Emilio fills him in that he’s given up Alina and left the field open to…Angel. Orlando is a little incredulous. “Angel??” he repeats. Orlando looks like he wants to bust out laughing. In the kitchen, Luba announces she wants to talk to Flor. Vera tries to put her off saying that she must already be asleep. Luba says she doesn’t care she must see her…and remember what she can do to men. (Maybe she has Viagra and anti-viagra?) Vera says she’ll take her to Flor. Luba gives Jaime a look as she goes.

Finally we get a scene with Soledad. She’s managed to escape yet again despite Sergio’s supposed best efforts to guard her. She’s sitting with Elias in his workers’ house. YES, Soledad wants to escape! Finally! Alvaro is out of town and there’s only Sergio to reckon with. Elias agrees, it’s time to grab Alina and get outta town!Luba is chatting with Alina in her spacious new quarters. Alina tells her that she’s worse off than she was before. Even with the nice room and new clothes, she suffers because she still loves Emilio but she can’t have him. She tells Luba about THE KISS near the church and how it was different from all the other kisses. (I suppose it was a more normal kiss, not like some of the kisses that have been well described on this blog). Luba says she knew it all along. Emilio pretended to hate you, because what he was really feeling was pure Love. Alina gives a wan smile.

Malena is wringing her hands over the fate of Mariana. Dr. Love is professing his Love for Mariana and saying he will never abandon her. Malena thanks him and there’s a knock at the door. Malena gets up to answer it. Yup, you guessed it. It’s Don Loco!!! He looks around the apartment at the stunned Malena and the surprised Dr. Love. “Where’s Mariana?” he asks.
