Tontas no Van Monday 3/23 One’s Flyin’, One’s Cryin’, Two are Lyin’

As some of you may know, my daughter’s wedding was this weekend, so I switched recap nights with Paula H. Muchisimas gracias, Paula, de verdad! I mentioned in yesterday’s comments that I wrote some new words to the Mañana es Para Siempre song, and sang it to my daughter and her fiancé (now husband) at the rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding. In response to a request from JudyB, here it is.

Amor es Para Siempre

Okay, now back to our favorite tonta, Candy, who is in a little rowboat with Patricio, in the middle of a pretty lake. Pat reminds her that he once proposed in the air (while parachuting!), and today, he’s proposing on the water. He breaks out a little sign which says “Marry me”, and shows Candy the ring. She smiles, and remembers the romantic parachute proposal, seven years ago. However, last time, she said yes, and things went wrong. She’s afraid. Pat threatens to overturn (voltear) the boat if she doesn’t say yes, and after he stands up, she gets him to sit back down, thinking about her answer. At this, Pat is elated, she’s THINKING about it! Candy tells him that if he can help her get over her fear, she might risk living and loving again.

Bárbara and Chayo are having some girl talk in the ladies room, while fixing their makeup. Barb asks what Chayo thinks about Candy and Mari, didn’t Candy sort of betray Mari (remember, Mari asked Barb to be her new partner the other day). Chayo doesn’t trust Mari, but she does have total confidence in Candy.

In the restaurant, Zamora and Toño want to ask Meño something, but they’re a little shy about it. Finally, Zamora gets it out – they know about Charly. And Meño can count on them for whatever help he might need. Meño thanks them and gives them a hug.

Isabel and Jaime are walking Rocío home from school. Rocío tells her abuelos that she, Beto and Chava have an idea to make Santiago happier. What is it? They’re gonna find him a novia!, she whispers excitedly. This makes Isa and Jaime smile, but when Rocío adds that they’ve picked Beto’s Mom Soledad as the lucky lass, a little doubt creeps into the grown-ups’ smiles.

And the plan isn’t working at Soledad’s house either, as Beto tells her the idea, but Sole says she doesn’t love Santiago. Beto doesn’t want her to be sad, and although she says she’s not sad, he listens to her heart, proclaims her to be a good Mamá, but there’s sadness in her heart, so he’s still going to try to find her a novio. (BTW, when Beto asks if HE can be her novio, Soledad says of course not, he’s her son, which to me is better than what Candy tells Chava).

Seems that everyone’s getting ideas to cheer up someone. Zamora and Toño ask Meño if they can borrow Merengue, the puppet. Meño says they have to ask Candy, but they don’t know where she is. Why do they want Merengue? They want to put on a show! Right here in the restaurant. It’ll cheer up Charly. (Sounds good to me. It always worked in 30’s movies, why not in a telenovela!) As Meño goes to fetch the puppet, Toño practices applauding and laughing.

Santiago is a bit negative, tho. In the kitchen, he tells Isabel and Tina, no more women, they’re too much trouble, trying to snare you into marriage. Tina thinks women can be fun, but Santi doesn’t want any disagreement. Isabel says she knows how Santi can forget all about Candy and Marissa. Take the day off, and spend the entire day playing with the girls. Santi doesn’t have any surgeries scheduled, and Isa’s idea brightens his face right up.

Back at the lake, Pat and Candy have docked the boat, and are sitting on the dock (of the bay, wastin’ time). Pat tells her how guilty, stupid and angry he felt at himself, that day of their wedding, when Candy left. His friends told him to search for Candy, but he couldn’t find her, and wanted to die. Candy teaches him Meño’s “fuera dolor” remedy.

Santi is in the girls’ bedroom, telling them about his day of fun with them. Rocío is literally jumping for joy on her bed, but Lucía’s not in the mood. Santi reminds her he’s king of the castle, and he can proclaim this a festival day, and if she doesn’t like it, it’s war, as they all start throwing pillows at each other, and Lucía joins in, too.

Well, Barb is apparently still testing out Mari’s idea (without revealing it), and now she’s talking to the whole group of Institute gals. She feels that the tensions in the Institute are at least partly due to Candy’s actions, and where is Candy now? Well, they know she’s with Patricio, and Lulu gets a little mad at Bárbara for how she’s bad-mouthing Candy. Enter Mariloca (they were in her office, formerly Candy’s). She kicks them out, back to work, ladies! They leave, although Barb is the last one. Mari makes a chicken sound, calling the others chicken, trying to be funny, but Barb isn’t laughing.

We now peer at Pat and Candy standing on the pier, and it’s time for self help method number 768 (at least!) Pat has a bag of rocks. Each one represents a painful thing, and as you toss them into the water, you free yourself from the pain. Candy moans again about (Candy’s lines, how he hurt her, etc.) and throws a rock. Pat says his lines (he’s sooo sorry, she has to forgive him), and it’s back and forth and back and forth, and after about 3 rocks (she has quite a pitching arm, that Candy), it looks as if Pat’s making some progress, although I’m suffering through this endless whinefest.

As we come back from commercial, the still shot just before the segment has Rocío and Lucía’s smiling faces, and that brings me out of my funk. Santi and the girls are relaxing on the big bed, eating fritos and making gritos (shouts) of joy, as they watch a movie, apparently a scary one! Isabel and Jamie join the party, bearing burgers on a platter, and the five squeal with delight at the scary movie on TV.

Mari is enjoying replaying her spycam recording of Barb’s discussion with the ladies before Mari came in, when her phone rings. It’s Alicia, who wants to know if Mari has eaten yet. Why? Well, Ali wants Mari to take good care of HER baby (Alicia’s!), and good nourishment is very important. Ali informs Mari that Pat has just about agreed to the adoption. And since Ali has told Pat she may have to adopt from a foreign country, that part of the plan is also working. But Ali worries that if Mari leaves the country, too, Santiago could get suspicious. Mari tells Ali not to worry about that, she’s got everything under control, Santiago could search for his son over sky, sea or land, but will never find him.

Z&T have put a little sign on the front of the reservations desk of the restaurant, heralding the “show of Merengue and Zarzamora”. I guess the show is a puppet show, to be put on behind said desk. A dour Charly is led in by Meño, complaining that he doesn’t want to see a show of tarugos (pieces of wood), but Meño tells him not to say tarugos to the tarugos (which also means blockheads, i.e. Z&T). Toño asks if they have tickets, and since they don’t, he puts on a silly mustache and proceeds to sell them tickets at 100 pesos each.

Okay, back to Pat and Candy AGAIN. The only part of this I’m enjoying is that the camera keeps showing Candy’s low cut top, and I love that little birthmark! Sorry, but I’m just bored with their whining. When she died, he died too. Why did he pick Alicia? Did he love her? No, never. Blah, blah, blah. Candy’s different now. No she’s not, he loves her even if she changed. She wants him to pardon her (I think he already did), she puts her rock in his hand and he throws 2 rocks, with a big heave, and we get to give this scene a heave-ho. ¡Por fin!

Okay, the puppet show has begun. Zamora asks Merengue (being controlled by Z) why do women have it better than men? Because they don’t have to marry women! Bada bing! Zamora loves his job, feels like a fish in the water. Merengue asks him what’s so good about that, what does he have to do in his job? Well, nothing! Bada boom! Charly is cheering up, and Meño sees it, says let’s get outta here, on the count of three. One, two three, and Meño, followed by a happier Charly, splits the scene, leaving a babbling Z&T.

Back at girls’ festival day (aka daughters’ day), Lucía is singing a pretty love song “You arrived, and were a blessing”, she gets a little misty, tho, thinking about Charly, but Santi gives her a big hug, and a lot of encouragement for her nice song and nice voice (and she is actually a very good singer). She suggests going to the piano to continue the musical portion of our fiesta. And of course they have a piano player in Jaime. What should they sing? Luc says it’s Santi’s choice, and she’s happy now about this daughters’ day, because she really feels like Santi’s daughter. She wants him to be her papá, and he can have a daughters’ day whenever he wants!

We have a short scene at Candy’s house, in which Gregoria berates Margarita. Why did Marg make such a big thing out of Arturo’s “affair” with Gregoria, if Marg knew all along they weren’t lovers? Well, Marg just wanted to teach Art a lesson, as a woman, you understand, right, Gregoria? No, wrong, it’s time for you to leave, and don’t bother coming back, in fact don’t call me again, period, as Gregoria hustles Marg (who thinks it’s all no biggie) out the door.

At the house of girl fun, there’s general merriment, a game of tag leads to hide and seek, which leads to music at the piano (a four hand rock and roll duet with Jaime and Santi, although we don’t really hear what they’re playing, as a sped up montage shows Santi, Rocío, Lucía, Isabel, Jaime, Tina and Donato, all having a blast.

And it’s back to Pat and Candy AGAIN, still sitting on that dock. Okay, she tells him he has been the only man she was ever “with”, and he lets out a whoop of male pride. But they’ve both changed, soooo much. Now they’re older, they’re mature now (gag me with a spoon), for both of them, their children are their whole lives (except for right now, of course). Pat thinks it’s a special moment (again), something is going to happen, let’s get back in the little rowboat.

In contrast, Santi, although he put on a good show to cheer up the girls, is back alone with his worries, knowing Candy is with Patricio, and as he sees his other self sitting in the chair, reminding him how much he hurts, he thinks he’s starting to go nuts.

At Iron Towers (Torre de Hierro), where Marissa lives, it’s time for the coven to convene, as sister witch Alicia has arrived to stir the cauldron a little more. Well, actually it’s care for the baby time, as Ali snatches the coffee cup from Mari (no more caffeine, hon), and gets out a shopping bag. What’s inside? Well, we start with a little baby shirt, and guess what? Mari bought the same one! They’re merging or blending (mimetizandose). (Uh oh, if we blend Mari with Alicia, we could get Malicia!) Except that the next little clothing item Ali gets out disgusts Mari (who, of course can change moods at the slightest provocation). Ali calms her down, though, and asks if she can put her head on Mari’s panza to listen to or feel the baby kicking, as we leave our twisted sisters to go to commercial.

Now, it’s really getting good (and weird, or good and weird). Mari remarks how nice it is to have Alicia with her head on Mari’s belly, the two of them are getting closer, but something doesn’t square with her (no me cuadra). Ali, smiling away, purrs, what do you mean? Mari says normally you’re cold and calculating, but now you’re so…..loving. Ali deviously replies, “you think I’m faking it?” Mari’s eyes grow, she’s not sure.

And it’s back to Pat and Candy AGAINagainagainagainagain. Now they’re back afloat, in their little bitty boat, and Pat says he KNOWS something special is going to happen, but he doesn’t know what it will be. And you know what? He’s right, again. I kid you not, Pat has some pull, or riches, or good writers, because a giant black eagle or hawk flies overhead, lands on the boat, drops off a single pink flower, I think it may be a carnation, and takes off again. Candy is laughing, almost speechless, asks how Pat did that one, Pat says he couldn’t have done that, it’s a magic place, and when there’s love, magic happens. So marry me, Candy. Your fear has gone up into the air, you’re smiling, marry me or I’ll tip over the boat. And she still doesn’t answer him, but they both stand up, and giggling, both fall overboard, start splashing each other, start KISSING each other, and I think Pat has just been given the white flag for the final lap, and is surging around the final turn toward the finish line.

In contrast, Santiago has a sore back. Well, not really, although Isabel is massaging his shoulders after all the horseplay. He’s glad the girls had a fun day, he’s even starting to warm up to the “intruder” (Jaime), since he makes Isa happy. But Isa reminds him that Lucía’s problems are pretty grave, and if there’s any way Santi could do a miracle, now would be the time (well, Pat seems to do miracles, why not Santi! – as you know, I’m on team Santi, but keep it quiet.)

So, inquires Marissa of Alicia, are you a hypocrite, or what? No, I’m a first class liar, and proud of it. Mari thinks she’s a pretty good liar, too. Better than I? challenges Ali. No, maybe not, but are you faking or what? Ay, Marissa, sometimes you’re so intelligent, but sometimes so naïve. But you know what, if I can fool you, I can fool anybody, and the two share a knowing, bruja power stare.

And it’s back to Pat and Candy AAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGG, okay you know the rest. It’s dark now, their clothes got wet. The tent is set up, Pat wants to know if Candy is still afraid. No, she isn’t. Hurray, says Pat. Yeah, now I’m terrified (ahora tengo pavor)! Hmmm, not so good. Candy reiterates her same rap, still afraid, don’t want to be hurt (I guess I was wrong about the home stretch thing I said earlier). She’s a little cold, he built a fire, let’s roast marshmallows, and look at the sky. You won’t believe this, but Pat has arranged the stars to spell out Candy’s name! No, just kidding on that one.

And to finish off the evening, our two witchy women (both with shoes on the couch – what bad manners!) verify their life goals. Alicia’s sort of glad she doesn’t have to have a baby, what with ruining her figure, carrying all that weight around. Marissa doesn’t even care about that, she cares about only one thing – vengeance against Santiago. And Alicia only cares about getting back Pat – however she can. Do you really think you’ll get him back? Yes, I do, she responds, a little defensive. Mari asks if Ali has thought about the future of the baby. Nah, it’s not worth it at this point. Mari then summarizes the situation. We have this elaborate plan with the baby. I’m doing it for vengeance. You’re doing it to get a man. And you know what? She takes another bite of popcorn, and laughingly adds, I don’t even want the baby!

These girls are BAD.

Next time: Rocío and Lucía want Candy to be their Mamá, but Marissa was watching on the spycam!

Vocabulario:

Voltear: to overturn (something). Last time, I had voltearse, which is to turn around (yourself)
Tarugos: pieces of wood, like dowels, or blockheads
Mimetizar – to merge or blend
No me cuadra – it doesn’t square with me, something’s not quite right
Tengo pavor – I’m terrified

Doña Barbara, Mon. March 23 - Emotions flare at the festival in Progresso

DB accuses Marisela of going after Santos and claims that he continues to be her man. Marisela says that DB is lying but she doesn't want to discuss it anymore.

On his way out, Sapo casually hands Gonzalo a check. Gonzalo initially refuses it saying that he doesn't accept gifts. Sapo says that it isn't a gift; it's a donation to Gonzalo's favorite charity or a contribution to his gubernatorial campaign. Sapo leaves the check with Gonzalo. Sapo also tells Gonzalo to say goodbye for him to Marisela since she isn't at her desk and compliments Gonzalo on his choice of personnel.

DB chases after Marisela and say that she is tired of Marisela playing the innocent with Santos. She wants Marisela to stop chasing after Santos. Marisela tells DB that Santos doesn't love her and is fed up with her. DB says that Santos adores her so much he gave her this baby. Marisela tells DB not to worry, she isn't getting back together with Santos. Gonzalo comes up and takes DB to his office.

Santos tells Dr. Arias that he is only asking about DB because she is carrying his child. Dr. Arias says that DB is healthy but no spring chicken and she needs to be calm and tranquil. She isn't obeying doctor's orders because she had to leave urgently for San Fernando to take Eustaquia to the hospital. The doctor tells Santos that Eustaquia's heart is failing and she is a bad way.

María Nieves and the guys try to placate Melesio.

MN says that he is serious about Altagracia but he doesn't have a dime ('no tiene dónde caerse muerto,' literally, 'he doesn't have a place to fall down dead'). Melesio replies that if he is broke, he shouldn't come around looking for trouble ('buscar cinco patas al gato,' literally, 'looking for five legs on the cat') much less getting decent girls pregnant. MN asks how Melesio is so sure that Altagracia is pregnant and Melesio says that he believes in the bird. Angrily he tells MN that he believed in him and let him court his granddaughter and this is the result. Melesio tells MN that he should follow Pajarote's example and relieve his desires with the prostitutes and not with decent women. Melesio lays down the law - MN has to say away from Altagracia until he marries her.

Antonio takes Lucía to the hospital because she is not feeling well and Marisela tags along.

Genoveva asks Altagracia what she did to make their grandfather so angry. Altagracia says that Melesio must have seen her giving MN kisses. "And were balloons exploding?" asks Geno. Altagracia doesn't know what she is referring to. Melesio overhears the word balloons (globitos) and asks what they are talking about but Geno and Altagracia say that it is just a joke. Melesio tells Altagracia that she can't see MN until the wedding date is set. The alcaraván starts up again and Melesio tells Altagracia that the bird must be indicating her pregnancy since Genoveva doesn't have a boyfriend.

Gonzalo tells DB that she has to do her part and get Santos back. He says that Santos is hanging around harassing Marisela. Gonzalo wants DB to do something to make Santos leave Marisela in peace and go after DB.

Cecilia tells Santos that his mother would be just as proud of all the things he has done for the town as she is. Santos points out the things like the school and the library that Cecilia has achieved. Cecilia agrees but says that she only did them with his help. "All this isn't filling your emptiness, is it?" asks Cecilia. Santos says that nothing can fill up the void that Marisela left in his life.

Antonio says that Marisela has been a good friend to him and Lucía. Marisela replies that they are the only friends she has in San Fernando and she doesn't want to be alone with Gonzalo. Marisela denies and then admits that she is avoiding Gonzalo. Antonio asks if that is because she doesn't care about him and when they are alone, he is a little mushy (baboso, literally 'drooling')? Marisela says no, Gonzalos is tender, romantic and considerate. "And mushy, right?" says Antonio, "A lot," admits Marisela laughing. "I know someone who sends you mushy flowers and mushy cards and you love them," says Antonio. "How stupid am I?" asks Marisela, "those flowers and notes are the only thing that cheer up my day because even though I don't see him, I know he is thinking of me. Our love can never be."

Meanwhile Santos is telling Cecilia that he made his relationship with Marisela impossible becasue of all the errors he made. Cecilia feels obliged to tell him not only that she warned him but that Marisela is right in leaving Santos when she found out that her mother was pregnant by Santos. Santos says that he doesn't want to sacrifice his love for Marisela because of what people might think or say. Cecilia says that the Santos in front of her is so different from the arrogant Dr. Luzardo who came to the Arauca telling everyone how to behave. Santos replies that he is a different person because he knows that he is full of defects. Cecilia asks what he is going to do about Marisela.

Marisela sees Melquíades leave Eustaquia's room. She asks Eustaquia is doing there. "Dying a little," replies Eustaquia. Marisela tells Eustaquia that she can't die because 'that woman' needs her. Eustaquia is happy that Marisela is thinking of her mother but Marisela says that she doesn't care about DB. It's the baby that she is thinking of. She doesn't want it to be as unhappy as she was. Marisela asks if DB was always so hard and cruel. Eustaquia says no. Before the rape, she was innocent and happy and sang all day. Then Eustaquia describes what happened that night and how she took the half dead DB to her tribe and healed her. Eustaquia says that afterwards DB wasn't the same. She hated men and punished them for what those five bastards had done to her. Eustaquia goes on to tell how DB met Lorenzo who had his own cross to bear with the death of Santos' brother and father. (DB comes to the door and starts to overhear)

"They united the guilt and the desire to punish," says Eustaquia. Eustaquia tells Marisela that the suffering in her life was nothing compared to what DB endured. DB sees that Marisela is crying for her.

Santos tells Cecilia that his plan is to wait and keep his love intact for when Marisela returns to him. He admits that he blew two chances to be with Marisela but swears that he will get her back because she is his only chance of happiness.

Eustaquia tells Marisela that it is fear that keeps DB from being in peace and makes her accumulate money. Marisela has trouble believing that DB is afraid but Eustaquia assures her that all DB's swagger and daring only hides a great fear that anyone should see how fragile she is. Marisela isn't sure what to think. She says that most of the time DB has treated her very badly but a few times she has been tender with Marisela but then went back to hurting her like before. Eustaquia says that DB is afraid to love Marisela. Eustaquia tells Marisela that with this baby she sees DB becoming the sweet person she was before. Marisela replies that may be so but DB is nice to the baby but is not nice to her. She asks Eustaquia if she thinks that DB is really changing or is this just a trap to get Santos. Eustaquia says that she is sure that DB is trying to manipulate Santos but deep down she thinks DB is calming down and it is wonderful to see her calm and quiet waiting for her baby and her man. Eustaquia describes how DB talks, sings and laughs with the baby inside her. Eustaquia says that DB is learning to be a mother and she is more afraid than ever because she knows that this is her last chance at saving her soul and her heart. DB slips away from the door where she was listening.

DB tells Melquíades that Marisela was crying for her after all DB had done to her. She doesn't understand that or why she was crying too. Melquíades says that the raging hormones of pregnancy have made DB weak and that's not good because they still have an enemy out there.

Sapo tells Facundo how surprised he is that Gonzalo took the bait so quickly. They will continue to lure him until he is well caught. Sapo sends Gonzalo some whiskey.

Eustaquia tells Marisela that she is crying because of her affection for DB. Marisela denies that she has any feelings for DB but Eustaquia says that Marisela is a good person and can't hold a resentment. She says that holding on to resentment makes people unhappy like DB. Eustaquia is worried about what happens where DB realizes that Santos will never return to her. Marisela says that isn't certain. Eustaquia is surprised. She thought Santos was with Marisela. Marisela says that it is over between them. DB comes in and Marisela takes an affectionate leave of Eustaquia but says not a word to DB. Eustaquia tells DB that Marisela was her salvation and she let her go. She says that Marisela is too good for DB.

Lucía is being kept overnight in the hospital for observation but she wants to leave early the next morning to go to the festival in Progresso. Antonio and Marisela don't think this is a good idea but Lucía insists.

MN and Pajarote gripe about their problems. MN says that he doesn't have any money to get a place for him and Altagracia and no more people can be squeezed into Melesio's house ('no cabe ni un alfiler,' literally, 'there isn't room for even a pin'). For his part, Pajarote is grousing about the terneras' obsession with the future and the family and other such idiocies instead of just living for the moment like him. MN tells him that the result of enjoying the moment is pregnancy. He says that since the bird is never wrong and Genoveva doesn't have a boyfriend, it must be that Altagracia is pregnant with his baby. "You know how the thing is with Don Melesio," says MN, "he who impregnates, pays." (It sounds much better in Spanish, '¡el que preña, paga!')

Eustaquia begs to be taken home but DB insists that she stay in the hospital.

Facundo tells Sapo that Gonzalo cashed the check. "He took the bait!" exults Sapo.

Marisela tells Gonzalo that she doesn't want to go to the festival in Progresso. Gonzalo asks if she is afraid of falling into Santos' arms again. She thinks that Gonzalo wouldn't want her to see Santos. Gonzalo says that he doesn't want her to be afraid of Santos or anyone. He wants to go to Progesso with her and dance with her and when Santos sees them he will know that they are a couple.

Montage of scenes.

Santos gives a speech at the opening of the library saying that this realizes Cecilia's dream and it was all done without any help from the government. In her speech, Cecilia says that many years ago, a child promised her that he would be a different Luzardo ('un Luzardo distinto') and now that child has grown up to a man and she is very proud of him.

Josefa and Federica are discussing expanding their business when Facundo delivers cases of liquor, presumably, to Pernalete for the celebration in Progresso. Facundo says that they are from 'a friend.'

There are lots of smoldering looks between Santos, Marisela, Gonzalo and DB at the party. Santos tells DB to leave him alone. Marisela wants to leave with Gonzalo. Santos wants to follow and Antonio keeps him from following once but the second time he manages to escape. Gonzalo makes a declaration of his love for Marisela. "Sometimes you do what you have to do," says Marisela and kisses Gonzalo while Santos watches.

Doña Bárbara - Fri., March 20- Santos lives up to his name; Gonzalo is arrogant and Antonio is insubordinate

Christian Meier fans - Meier's 2005 novela, La Tormenta, will be rebroadcast on Telemundo starting Monday at 1pm on the East Coast.

Marisela tells Gonzalo that she wants to forget all the unhappiness she has experienced up to now. She asks Gonzalo to help her. Gonzalo says that nothing would make him happier. That is what he wants above everything.

Santos finds out from Genoveva that Marisela was happy when she got up in the morning. Carmelito reports that Marisela made a mad dash to the boat and then it left. Santos is sure that Marisela saw him and DB in the clinch. He is angry that this happened when things where going so well between him and Marisela.

DB tells Eustaquia that she isn't going to chase after Santos but he will continually be aware of her trail, her actions, her scent. She wants her name in his ears every day. She says that she will make him need her and she will learn not to need him so much herself. Then DB indulges in a fantasy about how wonderful the birth of her baby will be and how amazed Santos will be at the kind of mother DB can be. She says that when Eustaquia gets better, they will go to San Fernando and buy clothes for the baby and decorate the baby's room.

Santos looks at the empty riverbank and says to himself that Marisela can't be so far away after the wonderful nights that they spent together (flashback). Santos goes on to say that he won't forget Marisela and will continue to fight for their love.

Marisela asks Gonzalo to be patient and give her more time. He says that is no problem. He says that his love for her isn't a game or a passing fancy. He will wait until she feels comfortable with him. He asks her to trust him and to forget everything that has happened before she came to San Fernando. He asks her to think about the life they will have together. "I will try," replies Marisela, "That's all I can promise - that I will try." When Marisela is gone, Gonzalo says that he has defeated Santos. He doesn't know what Santos did but he is grateful.

Pajarote comes to see Genoveva but she tells him to go away. He tells her that she is the only one for him but Geno has seen him cozying up to Celeste Mondragon.

Tigre is in the bar of the hotel with Leoncia and Celeste. Federica and Josefa greet him but Tigre doesn't respond and hustles his women out. Federica says that the next time he comes, he will have to pay double for the insult.

Pajarote asks Genoveva if they are or are not friends. She says that she doesn't see a future in being his friend because he is a flirt (resbaloso) who goes after every skirt he sees. She tells him not to come and see her until he calls her by a name she likes better, such as 'engaged' or 'marriage'. She throws him out of her kitchen.

DB tells her baby what a great guy his father is. She says that she has never loved anyone so much and that is why he will return. She imagines how wonderful their life will be all together.

Santos goes to San Fernando and gets the guard to tell Gonzalo that he is Andrés. When Santos comes into the dining room, Gonzalo asks what he is doing there pretending to be Andrés. Santos says that Gonzalo probably wouldn't have let him otherwise. He asks if Gonzalo is going to have the guards throw him out by force so that Marisela can see what kind of person he is. Santos tells Gonzalo once again that he is a traitor who has lost his ideals in seeking power. Santos says that he has come to speak to Marisela. The guys almost come to blows and Marisela says that she will talk to Santos outside. As he leaves, Santos says that Gonzalo disgusts him and Gonzalo says that he feels sorry for Santos.

Outside, Marisela tells Santos that he did wrong in coming and worse in pretending to be Andrés. Santos says that he wants to explain to her... Marisela interrupts and says that she doesn't want explanations. Santos tells Marisela that it was DB who embraced him at the factory and he couldn't avoid it. Marisela tells him not to bother. Neither he nor DB matter to her anymore. She tells him to go away. She wants to go to bed. "Marisela," Santos calls after her, "I love you." Marisela goes back inside without a word. Santos asks the guard if he wants to make some easy money and assures him that what he wants the guard to do isn't illegal.

Cecilia has cartons of books belonging to the Luzardo family that were sent from the Capital to Altamira and are now in Cecilia's house in Progresso. When Casilda says that there are enough books her to open a library, a lightbulb goes off in Cecilia's head. She says that Casilda is a genius. There is no library in Progresso. She will open one with these books.

A montage of dialog-free scenes indicate that two weeks have passed.
Pajarote brings a balloon to Genoveva but she pops it with a knife.

The new library is about to open and Andres has published the first edition of the newspaper. Dr. Arias says that Progresso is progressing and Andrés says that has only one name - Santos Luzardo. Santos modestly demurs.

A nice shot of Santos.

When DB gets a blanket to put on Eustaquia, she finds the picture of the rapists. She says that they are all dead except Sapo.

Gonzalo sees Marisela getting her daily rose.

Gonzalo asks if this is how she is keeping her promise to forget Santos. She asks if he is spying on her. He says that has he doesn't need to spy on her to know that she accepts a flower and a note every day from Santos. Marisela says that is her business and it's only a flower. Gonzalo replies thats gifts of flowers have meanings. He says that her acceptance of these ridiculous gifts from Santos indicates that she still has feelings for him. He suggests that the best thing would be to throw the flowers in the trash. He moves towards the flowers and she tells not to dare to touch them. They're her flowers and she will decide what to do with them.

Eustaquia tells DB to tear up the photo and close that chapter of her life. She should start a new beautiful life with her child. DB says that is what she is doing; living day to day waiting for her baby and and the love of her life to return. She tells Eustaquia not to ask her to forget about the rapists. She says that she only needs to get rid of one more of the bastards to free her from so much pain. "They all paid with their lives," she tells Eustaquia, "and Sapo won't be the exception."

Gonzalo tells the guard that if he sees him bringing flowers to Marisela again, he will be fired from his job and Gonzalo will make sure that he never works in any government agency again. Antonio overhears this.

Facundo gives Sapo the information for his interview with Gonzalo. He tells Sapo that he and Gonzalo have an acquaintance in common - the Minister of Communications. Sapo tells Facundo to get a letter of introduction from the Minister of Communications. He says that the time has come for him to meet this little son (hijito) of mommy and daddy.

Antonio tells Gonzalo about his upcoming schedule. Gonzalo says that he wants to take time on the weekend to go on vacation with Marisela. Antonio points out that Gonzalo has received invitations to various events in Progresso - the grand opening of the milk processing plant, a new library and a newspaper. Gonzalo is surprised that the newspaper has become a reality since he hasn't spoken to Andrés about it. Antonio says that it would appear that they found support from some other place because Gonzalo's office never provided any. Gonzalo says that he sent Santos' proposal to experts for analysis. Antonio tells Gonzalo that he doesn't have to lie, he knows that the proposal hasn't left the office. It was just been filed away.

Dr. Arias comes to see Eustaquia. He tells DB that she isn't getting better and he fears the worst. DB says that she will do anything, pay anything to save Eustaquia. Dr. Arias says that the only thing he can do is order more specialized tests that would have to be done in San Fernando. DB says she will take her there but her viejita can't die.

Gonzalo asks Antonio how he dares to say that Gonzalo filed the papers. Antonio says who else would have put them in the file drawer. Gonzalo asks how Antonio came to be looking in that file drawer. Antonio replies that he was looking for something else and found them by accident. Gonzalo accuses Antonio of sticking his nose in his personal business. Antonio says that he tells things as they are- Gonzalo doesn't want anything to do with Progresso and even less to do with Santos Luzardo. Antonio goes on to accuse Gonzalo of acting out of jealousy and mentions his reprimand of the guard who brought Marisela flowers. Gonzalo replies that Antonio's job is to keep quiet and do what he is told. Antonio says that he always says what he sees and if Gonzalo doesn't like that, he can take Antonio's job and give it to someone else. Antonio says that his friends and family come before any job and Santos is like a brother to him. At this moment, Marisela comes into Gonzalo's office and ask if they are arguing.

Santos and Juan Primito are eating mangoes. Santos tells JP that he wants to bring Marisela some mangoes but Cecilia told him to wait a while. Santos asks JP's opinion. JP agrees with Cecilia saying that Marisela gets furious when she is interrupted after she has asked to be left alone. JP asks Santos to take him to San Fernando to give Marisela some mangoes if she doesn't return to Progresso soon.

Gonzalo tells Marisela that they weren't arguing. He apologizes to Antonio and tells him to say what he feels and says that it won't happen again. When Antonio leaves, Marisela asks what they were fighting about. Gonzalo says that it was not a big deal but Marisela doesn't believe him. Gonzalo says that it was nothing they can't solve and nothing that Gonzalo can't forget out when Marisela is by his side.

Melesio is angry with Altagracia. Genoveva and Melesia ask him why and he says that it is because the alcaraván is calling again and Melesio is sure it is because María Nieves has gotten Altagracia pregnant.

Melesio says that he will solve the problem and goes for his shotgun. Geno looks thoughtful. [Why haven't MN and Altagracia gotten married already?]

Eustaquia doesn't like the hospital in San Fernando. She says that it is cold and expensive. DB says that Eustaquia has to get better so she can help with the baby since no one, including the baby's father, will come near her as if she had the plague. DB says that she doesn't need anyone but Eustaquia. Eustaquia is her mother. Together they can take on the world and get this baby thing going (sacaremos a este bebé adelante). She tells Eustaquia to be good and do what she is told.

Sapo comes for this appointment with Gonzalo and sees Marisela, "Look who we have here," he says. He tells Facundo that he met Marisela in a clothing store where she refused a gift from him. "You were [he uses the familiar form of the verb] unfriendly and arrogant. You remind me of someone that I knew a long time ago. Someone I can't forget. Someone whom I had to tame (amansar) by means of affection (a punta de cariño)."
[Why are these bad guys so short? Meléndez was a runt, too.]

Iciliy, Marisela asks if he is Fidel Castell and when says that is who he is, she asks him not to use the tú form of the verb to her (no me tutee) and that her name is Señorita Barquero. Antonio comes in and asks if everything is ok and Marisela says that there is no problem. These men have come for their appointment with Gonzalo.

Gonzalo welcomes Sapo and sends Antonio out to get coffee. Sapo says that this is a courtesy visit to get to know the Governor. Gonzalo says that he isn't the Governor. Sapo says that he could be Governor in a short time and take the reins of this state or isn't that what he wants.

The ternera husbands and future husbands are sitting around talking about how Santos has almost ruined Altamira by supporting everyone else's projects. Melesio appears with his shotgun and says that now all María Nieves does is talk. He hasn't made Altagracia an honest woman and the alcaraván is singing again.

Mujica offers a pompous toast to Santos: "May your pacifying and philanthropic labors endure forever. And let's hope that they fall like the softest and most refreshing downpour on the worst days of summer." Dr. Arias agrees that since Santos came to Progresso, there have been many important changes such as the fact that Pernalete has trimmed his ambitions and is acting according to the law. Mujica is called away and Dr. Arias says that Santos seems more enthusiastic and interested in life. When Santos asks if he was ever otherwise, the doctor says that not long ago, he was afraid Santos would become an alcoholic like his cousin Lorenzo because of DB. Santos replies that it wasn't DB. He refused to see his own mistakes but when he finally accepted them, he went on with his life. He asks Arias how DB is doing. "Ay, Santos!" says Arias, "You are still interested in that woman? Don't tell me that you want to go back to her."

Antonio tells Marisela that he has brought coffee to the 'Governor.' He says that he doesn't like the high-handed way Gonzalo behaves with outsiders. Both he and Marisela have left the office when DB comes in.

Sapo tells Gonzalo that he wants to invest in this area and needs the support of government officials that are eager for development and determined like Gonzalo. That is why he and his assistant have come to visit. Sapo ends the visit and says that Gonzalo will hear from him very soon.

DB is snooping around Marisela's desk. She finds the flowers and Santos' notes to Marisela. She says that Santos sends flowers to Marisela and not to her. Marisela comes in and asks what DB is doing there. "He loves you," says DB crushing one of the roses, "He loves you more than me."

El Cuerpo del Deseo, Friday, March. 20 - The end.

Ok, kiddies, this is it. The last episode of Cuerpo.

Salvador is taken to the Donoso house where he seems to have a very reverential attitude to his shoes.

There has been another fight at Gaetana's bar and she loses her license and has to close up shop.

We find out that Rebeca hung her herself in a hotel.

Salvador is a slob and Abigail is horrified at the condition of his room.

He does not want to have a bath.

But he gets one anyway.

When Ángela, Antonio, Simón and Abigail go out to a restaurant to discuss the Salvador situation, they find Valeria playing the piano there.

She and Simón get back together. It is Valeria who realizes what seem perfectly obvious (as Marie Celeste noted) that Salvador is no longer PJ and is the person whose body PJ took over. And that person had a life somewhere else.

Antonio and Simón go to ask Gaetana about Salvador's origins. She didn't even know he was out of the hospital. Apparently, she thought he was in a permanent coma. She sends the guys to Tío Felipe, who is not helpful.

Finally, someone remembers or figures out that Salvador was supposed to have lived in a village called Las Cruces. Antonio asks him and Salvador says that he lives in the country outside the village.

Antonio tells Salvador that they are going to take him home.

Camilo and Lupe say goodbye to Gaetana.
Evaristo comes to make a last effort to win Gaetana. A sad serenata seems to do the trick.

Evaristo braces himself for an attack when Gaetana comes over to him.

But she kisses him instead and says that he isn't bad.

Salvador has a joyous reunion with Cantalicia and Moncho.

Ángela, Antonio and Simón wave goodbye...

and Salvador and his family go off into the sunset. Fin

Capítulo 25

[Univision’s captioning is still hit and miss and Chipmunk dialect is not my strong suit, so any bi-lingual viewers out there feel free to correct my interpretation of events. –Ed.]

As a heartbroken and pensive Eduardo thinks back to Fernanda’s reaction when she first heard that his mother might actually be dead, he laments that now the only thing that binds the two of them together is their terrible pain.

Eddie’s definitely gotten an eyeful today, but hey, the party’s just begun. Any Balls suddenly appears with a drink for Grupo Lactos’ guest of honor and shoves it into Eddie’s hand. Fr/Eddie asks him if the bride ever returned. AB says she’s back at the house but won’t come out right now because she’s still upset at the joke they played on her. Ed laughs with fake amusement at the so-called prank and says, “You mean to say that the person wasn’t really dead?” AB cavalierly answers, “Who knows? It was just one of the employees who left service years ago.” Fr/Ed feigns the same kind of nonchalance. Just then Prissy comes running over and drags AB away with her. There’s something her hubby urgently needs to see.

Up at the main house, Gonzo and Babs continue discussing Sole’s death and the dirty trick with the flowers. He says he noted that Jacinto was acting weird while Fernanda and he were in the carriage right before the ceremony. However, Gonzo tells her that he doesn’t think Jacinto and Gardenia could have done something so contemptible. He decides to go looking for ‘Cinto to get his side of things. Babs says she’s coming too, only she has to refresh her makeup first. While Gonzo goes downstairs to wait for her, the Barbinator smiles back at the mirror triumphantly and touches up her bionic mask.

Apparently Cad made good on his threat to give Errika a lesson she wouldn’t forget. He has beaten Err senseless, literally. (Not that the poor girl wasn’t far from passing out anyway by this point. --Don’t misunderstand. Viewerville, though fondly remembering certain youthful indiscretions regarding a variety of college-era bouts of inebriated bliss in happier circumstances, hopes that in Errika’s case, the girl was too tanked to feel anything—at least as much as that misogynistic miscreant of an SOB was hoping she might.) AB and Prissy find Cad in the back and thankfully out of sight of the guests, and still punching away at poor comatose Errika. They stare in horror at the rotten mess he’s made of things for them. AB pulls Cadmilo off Err and yells at Prissy to try to bring her to and get her up to her bedroom. He pushes Cadmilo back toward the reception area while trying to talk some sense into the b@stard. Prissy tries but can’t seem to get Errika to come to.

Back inside, Fer, Santiago and Aurora return from the gravesite. Nanda yells at her father that Sole has been dead for three days and she wants to know if he knew about it. Gonzo, still oblivious to most of what’s transpiring around him, says no. He tells her she should have a long talk with Babs about the details surrounding Sole’s death, though she doesn’t see the sense in it.

AB gets back to Fr/Eduardo who asks if something is wrong. AB laughs nervously and covers by saying it was nothing important, just women being dramatic. Fr/Ed says it’s been real, but he’s got to head out now because he’s still got a few personal things to attend to. He promises Any Balls to continue their business discussion the following day and tells him to tell the rest of the family good-bye for him. AB watches Fr/Eddie walk off and seemingly deflates.

While Gonzo is arguing with Fernanda up at the main house, Barbinator Barbie sneaks out and takes a detour to the rear drive and gets into the SUV where Lucio and Jacinto are waiting. “Jacinto you’re going to remember this date for the rest of your life. If you love Señorita Fernanda as you say, I’ll give you reason now to adore her,” she says and flashes him an evil smile.

Gonzo goes upstairs looking for Babs so Fernanda can have that mother-daughter chat. Nanda tells Santiago in the meantime that she’s determined to go back into town to find out who sent those flowers and why they wanted to ruin her wedding. Aurora suggests it might be better if she gets her husband to take her to town and the three of them head out back to find Damian.

On the front drive, Eduardo walks toward his car and finds Nanda’s veil lying in the middle of the pavement. He picks it up and then angrily rips it apart, fighting back his tears. (Ok. Ok. I know. Big boys don’t cry; but I got to admit that watching this handsome lunkhead misting up, I couldn’t help from yelling at my t.v. while dear hubby catnapped in the background, how much I’d love to have this hunk of celluloid beefcake crying on my shoulder.) Estev, aka Dewey Duckworth, suddenly rings Eddie on his cell to ask how it went with the wedding. (Note to Hairstylist: Can we please do something with this dude’s top-crop? I mean, the harsh carrot color’s bad enough, but really, every time they put a camera on this guy I feel like he’s got to have a couple of brothers somewhere named Huey and Louie…) Eddie starts to lose it here. He tells Dewey that being at Fernanda’s wedding was his worst nightmare and that he proved to himself the Elizaldes are human scum.

Estev commiserates with his BFF (best foreign friend) in his best, flatly accented Spanglo and tells Eduardo to stay strong, to see this thing through to the end, for the sake of justice —and to remember that he’s always there for him. Ed clicks off and finally mans up. As he gets into his car he notices Prissy shutting the rear door of Errika’s car and walking quickly away towards the garden.

At the same time, Fernanda and Co. find Damnian out back. She calls him over to tell him that her nana not only is dead but that she died three days ago! Dam acts like shut-my-mouth! impactado. However, when she tells him she’s going back to town to find out about the flowers and the burial and says she wants him to go with her, Dam asks why now when they’ve still got guests there? (Naw, Wrong answer, oh Newly-Married-Male-One: everybody knows that once the booze starts flowing, the tapas are tasty and toes start tapping, the bride and groom are the last thing wedding guests miss.) Nanda cannot believe Damnian’s insensitivity.

Eddie walks over to Errika’s car on a whim and sees her bloody and battered, lying senseless in the back seat of her car.

Out back, Damnian suggests that Fernanda and he stay there a bit longer, cut the cake, and then go together into town. She says nothin’ doin’ and asks him just what’s so hard to understand about the fact that the woman who raised her like her own mother is dead and that she’s in pain over it? Dam just stares stupidly back at her. She loses all patience and says, “So, fine. You can stay with the guests and I’ll go to town myself!” “--What should I tell them if they ask where you are?” She screams back at him. “Tell them the truth! I’m in.dis.posed!” She stomps off in disgust. Santiago, who’s been observing this display of husbandly compassion from the latest cretin to join the Elizalde family, tells his new BIL that while he’s at it to “have several drinks to our health,” before walking off to catch up to his sister and Aurora.

Meanwhile pathetic Gonzo, who always seems like his bell is missing its clapper, is still walking in circles looking for Babs and the others. However, BOW is still in the SUV and has just made ‘Cinto a proposition which he reluctantly accepts. She tells Lucio to watch him like a hawk and warns Jacinto that now that he’s agreed to this, not to even think of trying anything with her. [pasarse de listo = trying to be a wise-ass or being too smart by half]

Anibal walks over now to Damnian and tells him that before he leaves in the morning on his honeymoon that he must have all sorts of financial reports ready to be examined, and if he thinks marrying into the family negates his responsibilities at the company he’s got another think comin’. If Dam doesn’t come up with those reports, AB will throw him out of the company on his miserable ass-ets “—or my name isn’t Anibal Elizalde!” Poor Dam. As if he didn’t have enough on his plate, now Mama walks over for a chat with Sonny. (Cue the violins.) Mama asks Dam what he and AB were discussing. Dam answers wryly that it was just AB giving him a “little wedding present.” Of course, Ursula, being Numero Uno of the Blue-haired Bimbo set, praises the Elizaldes for being such a considerate bunch. He starts to walk off in disgust saying he needs another drink, but Mama grabs Sonny by the arm for some motherly advice. She reminds him to go easy on the liquor because it’s his wedding night and he’s going to need to be “up” for it. [estar en sus cinco sentidos = on your toes] This finally gives Damnian something to smile about: legitimately getting Fernanda into his bed.

On the way into town Aurora asks if Sole had any relatives there. Nanda and Santiago comment that Sole had one son who they kept far away from there. Fer explains that the last they heard he was off in a foreign country completing his education. She clams up and starts thinking to herself what a terrible blow it will be for him, finding out that his mother died.

We beam back to the reception where Cadmilo is literally falling-down drunk. AB tries grabbing for him, but misses. (Ok. Ok. Now who hasn’t been to at least one or two wedding receptions like this one? The real rip-snorters where feisty family members get drunk as skunks, scream insults at each other in front of the guests, then puke and pass out while the band plays on and the guests keep knockin' back the booze cuz, well, hey, it's an open bar and nobody wants to let all that free food and fine liquor go to waste.) Anibal yells at Cad to get up and go sleep it off back at the house as he notices Fr/Ed walking back into the reception just in time to have caught the entire scene. AB suddenly looks like he has just realized he’s in the middle of a dream and standing in front of a crowd with nothing on but a fig leaf. Prissy runs over to him, careful to step around her drunken lout of a BIL who's completely passed out in the middle of the guests, to ask for the keys to Errika’s car so she can take her home. Fr/Ed says there’s something else he needs to discuss. (By now Fr/Eddie has got to be thinking just like the rest of us that trash is trash; and the only thing different about this family’s wedding reception was the cost of the booze and the band.) AB yells over at Prissy to have a couple waiters drag Cadmilo up to his bedroom and races back over to Fr/Ed, surprised and mucho pleased that he’s reappeared. AB asks Fr/Ed to have a drink with him. Fr/Ed looks over his shoulder, frowns at Cadmilo and says “Ok, if it’s just one.”

Now Babs walks back into the house and tells Gonzo that she went looking for Jacinto but couldn’t find him, or Gardenia either for that matter. Gonzo tells her that Fer confirmed Soledad's death and he wants Babs to explain to his daughter why she never bothered to tell her about it. On cue Babs starts the waterworks up again. She tells Gonzo that she’s so frightened that Fernanda will hate her after she tries to explain that she was only complying (sob, hiccup, sob) with Soledad’s last wishes (sob, sob, hiccup) and wanting simply to avoid so much pain so close to her wedding day. Gonzo takes her in his arms to console her as Viewerville gags once again in utter disgust.

Fr/Ed "explains" to Anibal that when he went out to his car his boss in NY called to tell him they’re so impressed with Grupo Lactos that he wants to meet with the owners to discuss finances for some big proposal tomorrow. AB says he’s on track with that. Eddie asks if Damian is able to fly up there for it. Anibal says the guy’s not only the company financial officer, but he’s a member of the family now and that makes things easier for them. So Fr/Eddie asks if the bride might have a problem with this. AB says leave that to him and smiles.

In town, Nanda is impactada to find out from the funeral home director that it that it was ‘Cinto who bought Sole’s coffin, while back at home her daddy orders Lucio to find Jacinto and bring him back to the house immediately for an explanation. Babs reminds him they’ll have to wait for Fernanda to get back and assures him that when Nanda returns, she will explain everything to her as asked.

On the poorer side of town, Silvestre confronts Martina about the money he found in the cookie box.

Fernanda gets back a few minutes later and tells Babs and Daddy that Soledad has been dead three days and that Jacinto was the one who bought the casket for her. She wonders if Jacinto could have written that card. Gonzo says he doesn’t want to jump to conclusions; he wants to wait and hear what Jacinto has to say for himself. Just then ‘Cinto, looking like he’s just been hit in the gut, enters the room.

Back in town across the tracks, Martina lies and says the money was a girlfriend’s who got it from her tanda (neighborhood-style credit union) and she simply asked Martina to hold on to it while she went to the movies with her boyfriend. Martina planned on handing it over to her the next morning. Silvestre says fine, but it’s too dangerous keeping other people’s money like that around the place and smiles dotingly at the wonderful little girl the Good Lord gave him.

We beam back to the main house where Santiago is showing the two waiters who’ve dragged Cadmilo upstairs, to his bedroom. Downstairs, in another part of the house, Fernanda demands the truth from Jacinto about the funeral and why he kept Soledad’s death from her. Jacinto tells her that only he and Margarita attended the burial and answers that no, Eduardo still doesn’t know anything because they tried calling but weren’t able to speak with him. Then Fernanda hands him over the card that came with the bouquet. He swears that he knows nothing about it and certainly never sent it. She asks where Margarita is then. He admits she left him and says he doesn’t know exactly, but he thinks that perhaps she’s staying with her cousin, Floricita. Then Fernanda demands to know why he never thought to inform either her or her father about Sole’s death. Before answering, Cinto takes a minute to think back about Ed telling him that the two of them were going to have to do things La Hiena’s way for the time-being.

In town at Flor’s place, Florecita suggest Margo go looking for Cinto if she’s really so worried about him. Margo is afraid that if she asks him anything he’ll either lie to her again, or if it turns out to be another woman, she won’t be able to face the truth. Then Denia and Flor start arguing over Jacinto’s virtues and vices; then they argue over whether it was actually La Hiena she saw getting’ it on in the backseat with Fernanda’s intended that night. FF>> In the end Margo ignores their grousing and leaves to find Jacinto.

Babs nearly has a heart attack when Jacinto asks to speak with Fernanda alone. Gonzo says fine and drags her away with him. Meanwhile, Nanda complains to ‘Cinto that she had a right to be there during the burial and wonders why he decided to keep it quiet. Jacinto tells Nanda the same story as BOW’s: that it was at Soledad's request, that she made them swear that if she died before Nanda’s wedding, they were not to let her know so that the bad news wouldn’t spoil her wedding day for her. Fer accepts this version and then wants to know if Sole died alone. Cinto lies and says yes, alone. She says she finds it hard to believe that she was buried and her son wasn’t there to witness it. So, then she asks if Barbara knew. Jacinto swallows hard before answering this one.

Outside at the reception again, Santiago mentions to Aurora that Soledad was sad for much of her life because she was separated from her son.

AB now catches up to Prissy and they compare notes. He asks what she did with Cad and she tells him he was taken to his room. She complains about the scene that Cadmilo made and AB says yeah, especially in front of Franco Santoro. However, amazingly enough, the guy still wants to do business with the family. He asks what she did with Errika. Prissy says she had the keys to drive her home, but when she went back to her car she was missing. AB says one of the guests might have taken her home, or perhaps she woke up and got a chauffeur or a taxi for the ride home. Prissy says she’ll make sure and give her a call tomorrow. AB says not to bother, because as soon as she gets up and the booze wears off, the lush will call there begging his brother to come back to her. Sad commentary, this, and Prissy says as much. AB excuses himself and goes off to talk to his father.

Eduardo arrives back home and gently takes Err out of his car. He carries her inside his house and up to a bedroom to put her to bed.

AB tells Babs and Gonzo that it’s necessary for Damian to travel to NYC the next day. He argues with Babs, who refuses to go along with the idea because she thinks it’s wrong to send him up there when he should be on his honeymoon. Any Balls is adamant that the company’s future is more important than any honeymoon. (I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that this guy is spewing this claptrap because he wasn’t exactly able to fully appreciate his own honeymoon –and not because Prissy wasn’t sexy enough or ready and willing.) Fernanda interrupts them to get Babs to join her in the discussion with Jacinto. Jacinto tells Nanda then that yes, her stepmother knew, but only because he didn’t know what else to do but ask her for her advice.

Babs, her eyes filled with crocodile tears and her voice trembling, says Jacinto is telling the truth. The only thing she could think to do at that point was to comply with her nana’s last wishes and that’s exactly what she did. She was the one who gave Jacinto the money to bury her with, but she never counted on that flower arrangement or the note. Fernanda says well if nobody else knew but you, Jacinto, and Margarita then who sent the note? Babs says, like it’s just dawned on her, that only one other person knew: Gardenia! Poor Jacinto is ready to have an aneurysm because he’s just realized that he forgot to mention that little tidbit to Fernanda earlier while they were alone. Nanda tells him to let Gardenia know she wants to speak with her. He says fine and she sends him on his way so she can speak to Babs alone. BOW gives Jacinto a warning look as she shuts the door in his face.

Babs now promises Nanda that she will take it upon herself to find out who it was that ruined the day for her and she will make sure they’re fired. Fer says she doesn’t think it was any of them. Babs meekly asks, “Who was it?”

Said guilty party is at that very moment stoking a fire in his living room and remembering Fernanda flirting with him again and asking if she finally will get to find out what his name is. “Never, Fernanda. You will never learn that behind Franco Santoro’s identity is Eduardo, the man who loves you.”

Once more at the reception, Damian is sharing tragos (a few drinks) and talking with the other good looking mystery man at the wedding, his best buddy, Vladimir. Vlad notices Prissy as she walks by chatting away with a guest. Damnian explains she’s his BIL’s wife, the BIL who eventually will inherit the business. Vlad is definitely interested in Prissy now. He can’t take his eyes off her and asks Damian to introduce him. He does. Any Balls walks over right after and tells Dam he’s got to speak to him right away back at the house. Dam leaves Prissy with Vlad, who starts flirting then offers to get her a drink. Prissy blushes and is suddenly all smiles. (Heck. Can you really blame her?)

Up at the house again, Gonzo and AB inform Dam he’s going to NYC on company business the next morning.

Back at Las Animas, Eddie calls Dewey and tells him that Damian Gallardo will be travelling to NYC to meet with him. Estev promises to keep the jerk so busy with reports that he won’t be able to breathe and congratulates Eduardo on the way that he managed to ruin the newlyweds’ honeymoon. Eduardo says he’s not sure about that since Fernanda just might decide to fly up there with her new husband after all.

Speaking of the Queen of Rome, Fernanda walks out just as Damian says he and she will be leaving in the morning. She assures him that she won’t be traveling anywhere because as of tomorrow she’ll be busy with Soledad’s remains and then demands that Gonzo have Sole’s remains buried in the family crypt.

Candy reminds her that she’s not alone, she has her family.. Luc inserts, “and my Papa Santiago?” Candy offers to be like her mother if Luc is willing. Luc looks at her askance, and Candy corrects, “Okay, your older sister.” Luc likes the sound of that, but they can’t make it official because then Candy would be Santiago’s niece and couldn’t be his novia. Candy tries to deny it but Luc isn’t buying the denial. Luc asks for help from the institute.

In Raúl’s office, Santi has calmed down from his rage, but not by much, and he’s aggravated because Raúl isn’t helping him protect his son.

S: In case you didn’t notice, my son is your nephew. Isn’t that family?
R: What about my wife?
S: What? (He has no idea what she has to do with this discussion.)
R: I've waited a long time to ask you. I want the truth. Did you do anything with my wife?
S: (Flabbergasted) Yes! In high school she was my girlfriend. Several months after we split, you went with her and married her.
R: Did you sleep with her?
S: You're as crazy as your sister! The shrink should give you a group rate!

At Pat’s hotel, Ali again asks for his help adopting. Pat again points out the insanity of the idea. She tries to use guilt. Marissa is getting ugly to Raúl too, pulling out all her sharpest weapons. She accuses him of siding with the enemy, the one who slept with his wife. He didn't care for her baby when she was 15, and he won’t care for this one either.

Luc memory montages meeting Charlie and their time together, and she struggles with whether to call him. She finally calls and he is thrilled to hear from her. She tells him, “I don’t want to die!” (I would have started with, “Nice weather we’re having, isn’t it?”) She pleads, “Why didn’t we protect ourselves?”

Santiago thanks Candy for helping Lucía. At times like this she really needs a mother figure. Candy asks how it’s going with Marissa. He found out from his lawyer that the only thing the law requires is that she has to notify him when the baby is born. Candy encourages Santi to protect his son (next she’ll remind him to breath) and recalls what she heard from Marissa on the wedding day.

He is just boggled that she wants to hurt her own child. He tells her again that he’s doing bad. Mar is nuts, his son in danger, the thing with Lu, and it's been ages since he laughed. You can tell that he’s getting close to the edge. Marissa enters and tries to push him over that edge and she comes darned close to succeeding. She ponders that her baby won't have a father. What a coincidence.
“Candy, you took your baby from his father, didn't you?”
Santi yells, “HOW DARE YOU MESS WITH MY SON??” She speculates that maybe it’s not his son.
He tells her, forcefully, “Like it or not, he’s my son. I'm gonna’ be in his life, I'm gonna’ love him. Whether that suits you or not!”
She tells him the love is dead. His love is trash. She dares him to hit her, and says if he does, she’ll (something), and then she’ll (take from him / get rid of) his son. (It’s hard to tell which one she says.)

Santiago is glaring at Marissa, seething, barely containing his fury. Maybe he should borrow Fr/Ed’s Foster Grants. And Fr/Ed’s tailored jacket and shirt too. Not that Santiago would look any better with them. Rather, that Fr/Ed would look so much better without them!

Candy suggests they get professional help. Mar says the problem is that Candy stole her husband. Santi says Candy didn’t steal nothing. Mar tells him to shut up and die. She lays out his options. “You marry me, you get your son. No marriage, no son. Santi is amazed that she wants to marry him even though all the love is gone. He admits that he once felt something for her, but now “You've managed to destroy EVERYTHING I've ever felt for you, even friendship.” Mar snits back that she didn’t destroy it; he did.

Mar leaves and Santi and Candy stick around, trying to sort it out. Candy says Marissa is acting this way because of pain. Santi admits that he bears part of the blame because he didn’t have the.. PANTS (his mouth says ‘pants’ but his hands suggest something more spherical) to break up with her back when he could have. (It sure took our boy wonder a long time to figure out that fatal flaw!)

Mar fires up the spy cam and snoops on the rest of their conversation. Santi is amazed that she’d hold his son ransom. Of course he wouldn’t go through with it; it’s macabre. He’d have to be as crazy as she is. But he assures her, he will always do anything to protect his child.

In Pat’s office, Arturo is trying to comprehend his son’s crazy decision. Art is sure Ali can’t adopt if they’re separated. Pat, looking quite spiffy in that tie, says it is easier to adopt in certain other countries. Art thinks Ali’s doing this just to get Pat back (Art’s a scumbag, but he’s a cunning scumbag). Pat thinks he owes Ali this. Art wonders if Pat is buying her off with this (See? I told you he’s a scumbag!). Pat rationalizes that it will help a child, it will make Ali happy, and it won’t cost him anything. Pat also believes in the Easter Bunny.

Laura begs Charly to come back to DF with her so she can take care of him, but he’s not willing to be that far from Luc, even if she’s not willing to see him. They cry and hug a lot.

Chava is getting ready for bed, and he asks Candy how Rocío’s dad can also be the dad to Marissa’s baby. Candy starts to explain that the daddy puts the seed into the mommy’s belly. That’s old hat to Chava. What he wants to know is how the daddy puts it there. Candy fumbles a bit, then promises to get a book that they can read together. Pat comes in to give Chava a goodnight kiss and grabs one from Candy too. Chava asks Pat his question, and Pat starts sweating and sputtering. He starts a soccer analogy that doesn’t get him any closer to answering Chava’s question, so Chava keeps trying to bring him back to the main subject. “I want to know about babies, not soccer.”

Donato serves Santiago his evening tea, and suggests that Santi take his cue from one of the knights of the roundtable, King Arthur who was a heroic prince. (I understood about 20% of this conversation. Can anybody explain it to me?) Santi likes the idea, except that (??). Don says Santi could move into the tree house. Isabel comes in and tells Santi that his daughter would like a bedtime story. Santi leaves and Don offers Isabel una taza de te. Isabel would like a te-quila. Doble!

Most little girls are lucky to get a bedtime story from their daddies. Rocío gets an encore of Camil’s Capitan Garfio (Captain Hook) from Peter Pan. One thing you gotta' say for Santiago: he throws himself, body and soul, into everything he does, but most of all into his children.

Alicia and Margarita talk about her adoption plan, baby names, etc.

In the kitchen, Meño is hungry for chisme. He wants to know if Candy is going to accept her husband’s invitation to go away for the weekend. Candy bristles at the word “husband,” but it sounds like she’ll go. Meño pushes as much as he dares.

At breakfast, Jaime is quizzing Rocío on her math. Santiago passes through, distracted. Jaime joins him out on the patio and says he’s worried – Santi doesn’t even pick on him any more. Jaime offers the name of a friend who is a Family Law attorney, and Santi is glad for the support. Isabel is ready to take Roc to school, but Santi says he’ll take her instead. Roc practically levitates when she hears that.

Chayo is looking at her new “attitude,” packaged in a Victoria’s Secret box. Ed dashes in, desperate for her to wash his shirt. He picks up the new duds from the bed, and she swipes them out of his hands. She says, “They were for you, but now they’re for me.” Ed is getting tired of not having a wife-slave to cook and clean for him. Chayo is more than willing to help – she gives him the number of a good housekeeper he can hire.

When Santi takes Roc to school, he sees Pat and Candy drop off Chava, but he stays out of view. He asks Chava why his mama said, “See you tomorrow.” Why, because his parents are going away together. Santi strikes his macho stance as if he doesn’t care. He protesteth too much.

At Marissa’s apartment, over a couple of tequilas, Marissa proposes to Barbara that she dump Candy and make Barbara her partner. Barb doesn’t say anything.

At school, the kids put their heads together to solve Rocío’s problem. Her papa is sad because he doesn’t have a novia, so they should find him one. Chava says it can’t be his mama because his papa is already her novio. But Beto’s mom doesn’t have a novio. Problem solved! When Beto gets home, he asks his mom if she wants to be novia to Roc’s dad. Beto is quite proud of his brilliance.

Note, the following was rough without captions. I made a brave effort, but I’m sure there are errors. Any and all corrections are welcome.

Santiago ushers a new patient into his office. I’ll call her “Rachel” because I didn’t catch her name. Did anyone else? Santi tries to call Candy’s cell, but it’s turned off. He starts talking to himself regarding Candy, but Rachel thinks he’s talking to her about her boob job.
Santi: Sí, claro, you have to give yourself the opportunity.
Rachel: Exactly. That’s what I want. A new opportunity. You understand, Doctor.
Santi: Where would they have gone? Where did they go?
Rachel: Well, I guess they sag lower. Or do you mean the old ones? I don’t know where they go. Better to get new ones.
Santi: Hmm. One by one. Alone.
Rachel: No, not one by one. If I’m going to have the operation, I prefer if you do them both at the same time.
Santi: Perdón? What were you saying?
Rachel: What were you saying?
He tries to call Candy again, gets the recording again, looks at Rachel as if she just now sat down, and says, “How are you? What can I do for you?”

Hey! Santiago! That Rachel. She’s some kind of girl, isn’t she? You’ve known her five minutes, and she hasn’t once kicked you or lied to you, she won’t get carried away by a stiff breeze, she’s not neurotic or self-obsessed, she knows what she wants and isn’t fickle, she’s making eyes at you, .. why I’ll bet she even likes Club America! I’m just saying…

At the lake, at the same campsite where Candy took Chava, Pat is hammering tent pegs with a piece of firewood. Note, my Mexican friend tells me that Americans have a different tool for every task, while Mexicans use one tool to do everything. I guess she’s right!

Out in the rowboat, Pat says this is a special place because his life came back to him here. Candy says she’s back in his life, and Pat says only as his friend, not like before. But he loves her completely. He doesn’t know if she loves him, but he has hopes. “Once I asked you in the air, and now I ask you in the water. Marry me.”

Don't you think Santiago and Rachel would make a nice couple?

What is going on with the Univision Captions?

I thought since we are linked from Univision now, a post devoted to the messed up captions might be seen by somebody. I get my recap updates through the bloglines.com site, today I looked at the Caray Caray updates, every single one started with "my captions are still missing/messed up/30 seconds behind." I'm having the same problem as well, so this isn't connected to just one cable company or one part of the country, it has to be from the network.

Univision - what's going on with the captions? Thank you!
