La Sombra del Pasado #34 4-3-15 Sealed with a Kiss?

Let’s rejoin the little party Cande arranged in her dollhouse called “Las Animas”.  Our girl Aldonza has shown a brave and lively face up until the point when Cris and Vale are trotted out to the stage and Cris puts a ring on it.  All the other guests are in front of the stage clapping and calling for “besos.”  Aldonza gets up and leaves the table where she and Renato sit alone.  She detains him from following her but Sev has carefully noted her departure and leaves the stage.  Renato notices Sev heading in the direction that Aldonza went and follows.  From the stage Cris manages to sweep the audience with his eyes before Vale pulls him back to her lips.

Quickly checking in with the break-in at Hum’s office we see Lardo has hidden under Hum's desk while a patrolling officer shines the flashlight into the room and sees the chaos.  Tomas slips up behind the officer and knocks him out.  Lardo calls Tomas an idiot and the two idiots escape.

E-man and Lola sit cheesing in each other's faces.  She wants to know if he’s tried the candies from the little candy casita she gave him.  No, he’s saving it for a special occasion.  Like, for an anniversary, Lola grins?  Seems E-man has a hankering for another drinkipoo.  Lola wonders if he wants to get drunk to avoid her kisses.  She thinks if she hadn’t robbed that kiss at the stables, she wouldn’t have stolen his heart either.  She makes E-man swear that he doesn’t like Mary.  Well, Mary is cool and she’s good looking but, ok, he swears and she rewards him with a kiss.

Aldonza stands away from the revelers, her back to the crowd and tries to compose herself.  Just as she turns to head back Sev appears and grabs her around the back of the neck.  His face is red and his veins pop as he looks down at her mouth, calls her stupid and tells her she had better not say a word about what she saw.   Aldonza’s eyes bug out with fear as she entreats him to please let her go.  She says she is not like him who seeks to destroy lives and reputations.  He growls that if she knows what good for her she’ll not open her mouth or. . .and then he presses his foul mouth over hers, a vile and intrusive assault!

“Let her go!”  Renato calls out as he charges, punches Sev in his probably still healing gut the force of which flings Sev several feet away!  Sev barks that this is not his affair and Renato firmly meets his gaze and tells him it certainly is!  “Let me make it clear, if you’re going to mess with Aldonza, you have to mess with me first.  She is not alone!”  Sev’s face is still reddened and misted with a layer of sweat, he grimaces in pain.  “Later.  We’ll see later.”  Sev retreats.  Aldonza falls into Renato’s arms.

Padre J of the GodSquad has arrived.  He chats at bit with Dominga about the surprising invitation of Aldonza to the party by Cande.  Both agree Aldonza is brave and daring to have come.  He heads out to the garden to look for her.  Meanwhile, Renato continues to help Aldonza calm down.  She says she’s okay but her eyes remain large and glassy and her breath seems to still come in gasps.  She says she wants to leave but she can’t let them win!  She has to show them that she’s not afraid of them, especially that miserable Severiano!  He asks what’s up with Cris, does she feel something for him.  At this question Aldonza covers her face with both hands and takes a deep breath.  She removes her hands and looks sheepishly at Renato and nods.  “Yes, Renato, I don’t know if it’s love, nostalgia, rancor . . .I don’t know what it is but it doesn’t matter; he’s about to marry and he’s not an option for me.  Right now I have other plans and no man figures in these right now.”  Renato chuckles that she has made that abundantly clear.  Aldonza laughs nervously.  Renato then asks what happened between her and Cris.  She tells them their story is that of two young people who fell into a love that could never be because of the hatred between their families.  They had to renounce their love because of this hatred that is so deep that someone tried to destroy her.  Aldonza begins to tear up and her face becomes a mask of fear and sadness.  Renato correctly guesses that “someone” is Severiano and he asks “what exactly happened.”  Aldonza begins to say no, it wasn’t one thing it was many things, many pressures and threats against her, her mother, her aunt.  To Renato’s question as to how all this hate started Aldonza answers that she really doesn’t know.   It all happened a long time ago but one thing she does know is that it has to do with what used to be her family’s property, El Santuario, which she is going to get back. Through all this Renato listens carefully and is quite dashing and tenderly attentive.

Cande has now joined Padre J who strikes a fine figure, tall and stately in his black with the flash of his white collar.  Cande seems to notice this as well.  She tries to pump him for information on Renato, where he’s from and if he’s Aldonza’s boyfriend but Padre J doesn’t give up any more details.  He accepts her offer of a glass of wine.  As they head toward Cande's table she looks at him and chides him for what she perceives as an air of suspicion:  there is nothing sinister going on; it’s just a joyous celebration.  They walk and he nods at various guests.  Cande continues that she has no ulterior motives, she just wants to leave the past behind and mend fences between their families and perhaps recover the amiable friendship that once existed between the two of them.  Cande has halted their leisurely stroll by touching Padre’s arm and she looks intently into his face as they talk.

“Candela, I never did anything to disrupt this friendship.”

“You became a Priest.  [Cue ominous woodwinds.]  You have no idea how it hurt me that you made that decision without taking my feelings into consideration.”

Padre asks where his niece is and gives her a look which says this conversation is o-ver.  Candy retreats from her previously intimate persona and dons her cool exterior once again as they walk to the table and take a seat.  Padre throws Cande a subtle but exasperated glance.

Sev has returned to the party and is greeted by his shyster lawyer friend who wants to know when he’ll get the rental contract Sev wants broken.  Shyster notices Sev’s discomfort.  Sev’s claims it’s his pesky gastritis.  Sev gets a call from Lardo and is thus able to tell him he’ll get the file in the email in the morning.  Tomas rags at Lardo for not mentioning that he was the one that knocked out the cop but Lardo tells him he is to shut up about that because HE is supposed to be the only one working for Sev.  Sev tells shyster he wants to get his lands back and shyster assures him that they will find a way.

Ay, ay, ay!  Prudencia is holding forth at the head table about the domestic and intimate duties of a good wife:  She must above all be prettied and perfumed so that Cristobal will not seek outside what he has already at home.  Or, as Paul Newman once put it about his beloved Joanne Woodward, “Why go out for hamburger when you have steak at home.”  We can all feel Cris and Humberto’s pain.  I don’t care about Vale’s pain.  Bitch.  Humberto purposely interrupts Pru, Vale escapes to Mary’s table and Hum goes for a drink leaving Cris trapped as Pru babbles on about how he should behave to please his wife. . .

E-man!  All right now!  E-man must think he’s riding Soletario the way he’s galloping Lola around the dance floor!  Vale and Mary put their plan into action.  Flunky waiter dude interrupts E-man and Lola’s merry jaunt on the dance floor to tell Lola Dominga wants her in the kitchen.  Lola leaves and the sloshed E-man continues busting moves, drink firmly in his hand.  Mary makes her move and joins E-man on the dance floor.  Before you can say “skanky slut” she has thrown her arms around his neck and vacuumed his lips into her mouth.  Meanwhile Lola dutifully reports to the kitchen, finds out Dominga did NOT call her and so she returns to the party just in time to see Mary hoovering E-man.  Just then Mary jumps away from E-man shouting how DARE he kiss her.  Lola’s face twists horribly; she takes a menacing step toward Mary, briefly regarding her with suspicion but then smacks E-man upside the head and runs off the dance floor whimpering.  Mary marches triumphantly back to her table as Vale looks on in approval.  This little drama has cleared the dance floor and stopped the music.  Cande takes the floor and commands the band to strike up again, nothing to see here folks, let’s party hearty!  We catch a brief glimpse of Cristobal, his eyes darting almost frantically around the garden.  Vale and Mary sneakily congratulate each other.  The bitches.  Ah!  Cristobal has surveyed the gathering and sees an opening to escape!

Lola has retreated to the kitchen and has dissolved in tears while Mele and Dominga try to find out what happened.  Long story short:  she never wants to see E-man again!  E-man comes to present his side but she yells at him to get out.  He does manage to say in his defense that it was Mary that kissed HIM.  Mele is ready to fulfill his pledge to rearrange E-man’s gonads when Lola feels compelled to correct the impression that E-man sought her out just to break her heart.  Lola confesses that the day in the stable when Dominga busted them it was SHE who initiated the kiss.  E-man tries to stop her but Lola insists.  Nevertheless he gets run out of Las Animas and Mele will talk to him in the morning after he’s sobered up.    [Note:  E-man is not pretty as a sad drunk].

Back out at the party the occupants of Mary’s table might be random but they’re not stupid and know exactly what just went down.  Uriel and Irma are at the table and are NOT amused at this scandal she has caused.  He almost drags her ugly dress wearing tail back home.  I would listen to Uriel.  He is HUGE!  Uriel, Irma and Maria de Los Angeles (Mary’s full name) leave.  Vale looks like she wants to crack up.  She heads back to the table where Pru and Hum are and the two scags talk about how disgustingly drunk E-man is.  Of course HE’s to blame for the scandal!  Drunk!  Imagine that Pru clucks as she reaches for her drink.  She reminds Vale that she’s lost track of her puppet, Cris.  Pru claims Cris was just fascinated with her wonderful discourse on how to maintain the joys of marriage.

Renanto and Aldonza are walking and talking.  Aldonza says a very powerful and indescribable change came over her when her mother died.  She was overcome by an irresistible urge to return to Santa Lucia.  Well, well, well, who just happens to stroll by full of concern that Aldonza is missing all the cool action at the party?  It’s Cristobal trying to look all casual with his hands in his pockets.  He asks to speak to Aldonza and rudely waves off Renato’s attempt to decline for her.  Aldonza tells Renato it’s ok, he can go.  He leaves and asks her to call him if she needs him.  Cris follows Renato’s back with a powerful stink eye.

Cris tells her that Renato takes care of her as if he owns her.  He assumes Renato sent the flowers and asks rather brusquely if he is her boyfriend.  She tells him he’s out of place and so what if Renato were her boyfriend, he has no right to ask for explanations.  She turns and walks away briskly.  Cris is right behind her and catches up with her.

“Oh yes, I’ve got a reason and I’ve got a right to ask, and do you know why?” he asks, taking her arm.  His tone and eyes have softened.  “Because I care about you, I love you.”  He puts his right hand around her waist and pulls her closer.  “Because I can’t forget about you and I can’t stand that any other man look at you.”  Cris’s voice is now nearly an insistent whisper as his eyes sweep from her eyes to her breasts and back up again.  “You’re crazy!” Aldonza exclaims.  “Yes I’m crazy,” Cris says with a huge intake of breath, “but crazy for you.”  He has pulled her until she presses against him and she surrenders to his kiss for a moment before breaking away and slapping him in what seems more like a provocative invitation than a reproach.  I think Cris agrees as he steps into her personal space and pulls her to him, grasping the back of her head and then encircling her waist with his hands as her hands grasp his face and she leans backward, their lower body pressed together.  Ah, sweet baby Je. . . .they gently rock and sway, taking turns tasting the wellsprings of one another’s passion.  [Okay, maybe this is a little corny but we’ve been kiss blocked for weeks now!  Bear with me!]  After many long seconds Aldonza pushes him away with a “No puede ser!  Why are you doing this to me?”  Cris’s answer:  “Isn’t it clear what I just told you?” and he pulls her to him again and they kiss as Aldonza squirms and then breaks away again.  Aldonza is subtly panting.  She looks at Cris and then as if pulled by a magnet grabs his face and initiates a kiss to which he gladly surrenders and they start that soulful rolling again as “Te Promteti” swells in the background.

Aldonza once again pulls away and points her finger at him.  “What you are saying cannot be true.  You’re about to marry another woman; you just announced it!”  Cris tries to say what he has with Valeria is nothing but Aldonza argues that what he has is a commitment!  “You can’t come here to me and make a declaration of love!  What are you trying to do, mock me?”

“Aldonza, how do you think that I would mock you?  I love you, Aldonza and you love me, too!”

"Yes, but you're about to get married, so please. . ." she splays her hands in a gesture of helplessness.

Cris starts to por favor her as she picks up her little gold evening clutch and walks away.  Cris reaches out and grasps her arm and they are drawn inexorably into a full body kiss joined at the lips, each one’s eyes closed and lost in a moment they know they’ll not likely share again for a long time, if ever.  This time Aldonza literally tears herself away gently saying “no, no” as Cris reaches for her.  Just then Renato arrives demanding to know what Cris did to her.  The two boys are about to go at it, Aldonza separates them and asks Cris to go back to his engagement party.  Padre J arrives and wisely sums up the whole scene.  Renato and Aldonza leave and Cris looks as if he wants to go after them.  Padre J advises Cris to go back to his party; his novia is looking all over for him.  After Cris leaves Padre J sighs, “Oh, these young folk!”

Cris stands at the bar and gazes inward at the screen in his mind where he’s doing an instant replay of THE KISS 2.0.  He sighs deeply and takes a big swig of something.

Padre J takes on a decidedly paternal demeanor with Aldonza and Renato, letting him know he will see her home.  Padre J strides off to have the valet get his car.  Renato asks Aldonza how she feels, what she is thinking.  He tells her he saw them kissing.  She doesn’t want to talk about it and he accepts that.  She doesn’t owe him and explanation but she owes one to herself.  Padre returns and Renato looks as if someone has died.

Cris scurries into the living room where Vale very appropriately sits on the stairway outlined in wrought iron where she grills him about his whereabouts and whowashewithabouts.  The inquisition is interrupted by Sev who shoos the “love birds” out to attend to their guests.  Sev manages to give Vale a once over as she and Cris head for the garden.

Aldonza and Padre arrive at the Church and parsonage.  He questions her about why she attended the party that she was so vehemently against; why she didn’t tell him she’d changed her mind; what is she trying to prove by going to the party?  He knows she is trying to show that she is a brave and independent woman who can take care of herself without depending on anybody.  She says, again, she wants to show them that she’s not afraid of them.  He wants to know why she should be and she reminds him of all the things they did to her mother.  Padre’s not buying that:  he wants to know why she’s waving the flag of valor when it’s not her place to do so?  She’s only following her conscience!  He wants to know what does that mean.  Padre gives up but not before letting her know that he is aware of the main issue in play, that she was alone with Cristobal.  They enter the apartment, Aldonza goes off to bed.  Adelina has read Aldonza’s expression and is concerned.  She questions Padre who lets her know that he couldn’t get anything out of her.  Padre says sometimes he feels like he’s talking to a stranger.

“What happened in Aldonza’s life that has changed her so?”  Adelina immediately becomes anguished and defensive at once, claiming that Aldonza is grieving over Roberta.  Padre J doesn’t buy it!  He tells her we both know this is not at the foundation of what happened to Aldonza, it was something stronger than that.  He tells her he knows that SHE knows much more than what she is telling him and it’s something that she doesn’t want to reveal.  He tells her good night and leaves.  Adelina frets.

The party’s over now and Vale, Pru and Hum prepare to leave.  Sev has to tell Cris to see his novia and her family out.  After they all leave Sev reveals that he’s been reading the LS board.  He asks Cande if she’s happy with her little party.  Oh, didn’t he hear all the glowing commentary from the guests?  Everybody loved it.  Sev fires back yes, everybody except her son who should’ve been the most enthusiastic.  Didn’t she see his face?  She tries to blame it on his not being a real social animal.  He asks if she accomplished what she wanted inviting Aldonza.  She thinks she absolutely did and takes it as a victory that Aldonza fled as soon as the engagement was formally made.  He tells her Cris ran away, too and he found him and Vale arguing.  Puh-leeze, a couple arguing?  No big deal!  Cande hits a sore spot when she notes that Simoneta left early.  Yes, she didn't feel well and  asked him to excuse her early departure.  He tells her it was a bad idea for inviting her, she was out of place at the party.  This kind of reigns in Sev’s flogging Cande over Cris’s obvious misery at the party.  He ends it by saying he and the widow are trying to settle on a price before they close any deal.

The police are waiting for Hum as he and his family leave LA.  Hum goes off with them to the scene of the break in at his office while Vale and Pru continue home.

Uriel, Irma and the 40-year old virgin, Mary, have returned home.  Uriel is pissed at her, scolds her and tells them he’s going to talk to E-man tomorrow and get his side of what happened!   Gullible Irma is all thrilled that her “baby” Abelardo is home and faaaaast asleep!  Gag me!  They leave Mary on the couch, her fanny only not showing because she’s sitting on it.

Sleeping boody is up (Lardo) and tries to rush out the door.  Uriel makes him sit down and eat a proper breakfast and they can ride together to Sev’s as he has something to talk to Sev about anyway.

Let me give this to you quickly.  The ascerbic Flavia lights into Joaquin for spending so much time with Aldonza and Adelina.  Seems he prefers their company to that of his own family!  He also has read our board and invites her to come with him, to get to know Donnie and Addie.  What did he say that for?  She does not need him picking friends for her so hell no!  She stomps away and he fairly hisses at her back!

Uriel stops in to see Sev to verify that Lardo is working for Sev.  Oh, Sev is such a man of his word.  He promised to help the young lad, and that’s what he’s doing.  Uriel is grateful.  Uriel also wants to talk to E-man.  Sev gives his permission and tells him in the future he doesn’t even have to ask.  Lardo is very obviously listening at the door as Uriel leaves.

Lardo enters and gives Sev his phone with the photos of the rent contract.  Sev is pleased.

Aldonza is meeting Renato at a restaurant.  She has already eaten breakfast and wanted to give him the explanation she didn’t give last night about why she kissed Cristobal.  As he suggested she answered the question for herself and now she’s ready to tell him.

“I’m still in love with Cristobal. “

Renato dies a little inside.

Hey, y'all, lots to talk about. I won't deny I enjoyed THE KISS 2.0 but I hate that Sev actually got to press his lips on hers and I feel llike the rape is being minimized! Padre and Renato both know something very serious has happened to Aldonza but it is clear this is going to be an issue that is driving our Leading Lady but will not be revealed til ultimas semanas!

Knowing that Sev raped her and even the very night of kissing Cris had forced a "kiss" on her after grabbing her roughly unfairly detracts from the sexiness of his passionately grasping her arm and pulling her to him to kiss. Gotdammit, I hate that!

But. It is what it is and I just try to ignore Sev when they're on the screen. I hope my description did convey that I enjoyed THE KISS 2.0.

And I KNEW IT! I knew Cande had the hots for Padre back in the day! That was an unexpected revelation!

Anyway! Have at it y'all! I may kick it a few more minutes to see if anybody comes by.

Holy Harlequin! Great recap, Lila!

Candela must have had that place sprayed down with pheromones! I couldn't believe my eyes, I kept wondering if they were actually kissing or this was someone's fantasy.

Whoa, Diva! You read it already! Yeah, man, they were totally getting it on! Whoo! She and Vale would've had twin cows if they could've seen that kiss!

Can't wait to see Cris's post-kiss aftermath!

Well. Think I'm gonna turn it. I'll get with y'all tomorrow.

Thanks, Diva!

You guys…Aldonza can’t be with Renato. Because I am in love with Renato. Seriously, he kind of totally won me over last night. I love that he punched Sev in the gut. I love that afterwards, he didn’t say anything, just held her. Love that he lets her talk and that he really listens. Love that he respects her enough to leave her alone with Cris when she asks. Love that when she went to explain things the next day, he gave her his full and complete attention. Love that he doesn’t judge her for her feelings.

Cris is losing me. He’s gonna have to pull something much bigger than a rabbit out of his hat to regain his position.

All right, it’s confirmed: Cande had a thing for Padre J and he broke her heart by becoming a priest. It looks like it didn’t go very far, but I can’t wait to find out what went down!

I'm really pissed at Cris for being such a lousy friend! Emmanuel gets completely smashed and is in the middle of a scene and Cris doesn't go over to see if he's ok. And then he sees Lola running off all upset and doesn't go over to see if she's ok. Instead, he goes to snog Aldonza. Dude...she was fine. She didn't need to be snogged! OK, I enjoyed watching it, but I also would have enjoyed watching him live up to all his protestations about how he and Emmanuel are "bros."

Just got up. My coffee is ready and I'm about to read the recap!

Sorry hellashelle, Renato is mine.

Lila- Thank you for the recap, and up so fast! Love the title, too! The subtitle shall be THE KISS 2.0. (I like the previews for Monday’s episode, too)

Aldonza needs to enroll in a personal defense class and buy a schutzhund .

Pobrecito de PadJer. My favorite line of his last night was in the garden --- “Ay, estos muchachos!” AH, yes, these kids! LOL

Padre GodSquad needs to learn what happened to Aldonza before his curiosity gets him hurt or killed. The dear man was probably inspired by vicar Sidney in Grantchester

Squee! We got confirmation that PadJer was Cande’s first and original love! What if Cris is their love child from a one-nighter?
(didn't that happen in TdA? Maybe I am remembering it wrong but Padre Hottie... didn't he turn out to be Maite Perrone's father? Or have I watched too many telenovelas?)
I'm still holding out on this one.

Humberto’s eye roll while Pru was giving Cris marriage advice was … classic.

Renato - Come here, dear young man. Now that you have confirmation that Aldo loves Cris, I will comfort you. Come to mama . . . I could give it a go at being a cougar ...

"before you can say skanky slut"

"drags her ugly dress wearing but"

Great lines!

I agree with Kat, Cris did not impress me last night.

Lila, you did this with such class, peering into every nook and cranny looking for explanations for all the relationships.

I am giving Cris a pass for now. He doesn't know what happened between his dad and Aldonza, he is hurt and confused by her leaving him so precipitously and in this state of mind, he has let himself be wheedled into this sham of an engagement by his mother and Val.

I wish Renato would have gotten more than one punch into Sev. I think at least three would have been warranted.

Well! So Cande did, and likely still does have the hots for Padre J! I would like to know how in the world she got together with Sev. He seems to not have had any money, he was of uncertain social standing, and his demeanor has always been surly. So where's the basis for the initial attraction?

Uriel and Irma should have taken parenting classes. Their offspring don't reflect credit to themselves, to the town, or to the human race.

I think Renato will be better at reading contracts than Sev's licenciado, and thus Sev will be foiled again.

Happy Easter to everyone, and happy Passover to Sara.

David

Thanks David!

You are so right. Sev deserved at least three more gut punches. Did Renato unknowingly get the spot where Aldonza stabbed him?

Lila - I didn't say this last night but bravo! That was a great recap! You perfectly captured the feelings and subtleties; the Kiss 2.0 was spot on!

Sara - LOL! I'm sure we're not alone. I have a feeling this is going to end in a mass patio-wide mud wrestling competition before the weekend is over. but Doris might have us all beat, she's going in smart ;) (and, yes, Doris you're right that did happen in TdA. But then Aldonza will be Cris's cousin...unless she's secretly Sev's in which case she was raped by her father and there is NO coming back from that.)

David- I'm sure Sev can be very charming when he wants to be. Cande, smarting over Jeronimo choosing God over her, did what she's trying to get Cris to do: choose a good family name, and a seemingly ok person and keep it moving.

Sara - Man, I hope so!

Pru is hilarious. Terrible, but hilarious. Does all that drinking somehow give her improved lung capacity because I don’t think she took more than five breaths all night.

Mary…Imma smack that bitch. Seriously, I’m done with her. That prank was childish and cruel. Did she seriously not think about what her parents would think about that? She’s gossip number 1 is that stupid town, didn’t she consider how this would affect E’s reputation, especially with his boss and supervisor? Knowing that that’s Lola’s gramps? All I could say after her dad told her he didn’t like E now was “good.” Now my fear is that with Lola’s whole family pissed at him and his desire to keep girls from dealing with the consequences of their kisses, he’s going to end up going out with Mary. I was so hoping one of her parents would point out that she was all over him and yanked his head down for that kiss, but I'm not sure anyone at that party was smart enough to catch on, especially since she turned the spin cycle on high immediately after ("you all saw that, right? he kissed me, I didn't do anything!")

Diva - I forgot to say you are SO right!!! I'd love to say Cris is a good guy, but he used his friends' embaraassment and pain to sneak off at HIS ENGAGEMENT PARTY to snog (cuz that was much more than a kiss) his ex girlfriend. He was rude to Renato, aggressive with Aldonza, lied to his fiancee and ignored his friends. And Lila I agree that level of aggression was so disturbing after Sev's attack. Maybe Cris really is his son.

Hey, HellaShelle! I couldn't really tell what happened when Renato charged in. I'm gonna go back and put in the gut punching! Thanks!

Diva at 1:12 a.m. yeah, from the moment Aldonza came to the party it was All Aldonza All Night Long! Guess he figures E-man and Lola are grown folk that can take care of their own problems, he had to grab this chance with Donnie!

What Cande saw in Sev (just a theory 'cuz I have not seen EM) might have been a knocked-up woman who needed a legitimate father for her son. But, yes, there is the cousin thing...... gah! this is a convoluted plot.

Renato - Come here, dear young man. Now that you have confirmation that Aldo loves Cris, I will comfort you. Come to mama . . . I could give it a go at being a cougar ...

Sara, you crazy! Am I gonna have to break up fights between you and HellaShelle over Renato?

:D

Thank you, David! I'm inclined to side with you on Cris. I DO, as I said yesterday, wish they'd given us a stronger galan in view of what happened to Aldonza but he could never even DREAM what his dad has done to her. I am hoping to see some changes in him now that he has openly re-declared his love to Aldonza and realizes she loves him, too.

Thus, I hope he has vowed, they have vowed to fight for their love and sealed it with a kiss.

Thank you, HelleShelle!

Cande, smarting over Jeronimo choosing God over her, WOW! So telling when you put it like that!

Mary, that heffa, I think the people only agreed with her because she was there in their face. They all saw what happened. Uuuuf! She'd better not end up with E-man. Let him go back to being the strong, silent horse whisperer and leave both of those silly girls alone!

Lila - that was me volunteering to be Renato's cougar. And, yes, you might have to break up a classic telenovela catfight over Ren. ;-)

Doris beat me to the correction.

I want Renato to meet my daughter. She would appreciate him as he deserves. :)

Ooops! Sorry, Doris! Girl, I love that comment! Okay, I will referee between you and HellaShelle but be warned, she's probably a hella of a fighter!

;D

"I have a feeling this is going to end in a mass patio-wide mud wrestling competition before the weekend is over."

Haha! You are so funny, hellashelle!

At this point I want Aldonza with Renato. Maybe we'll get some new opening credits soon...

Lila- old age and treachery will win out over youth and good looks. HellaShelle will be toast. LOL

Lila, you gave last night's stunning events an equally stunning recap. Gracias.

All I can say is Holy Moly, did the fur fly last night. And yes, Cande had it bad (still has?) for the Padre--and he sorted looks like he could care?

So first, out little pouter got a spine and went to tell the girl how he really feels. And I agree Lila, ARGH that it all came down right after Sev tried to pull his crap again. The anguish that Aldonza has to feel at that. That last act on her part to pull Cris in to herself to another hot kiss ( those two are good) and then have to walk away...ai yi yi. I don't think I let out a breath through that whole interval.

That said, my real hero last night was Renato. Talk about a kick to the gut, and I'm not talking Sev. I don't think he's blind to the fact something was still there with Cris and Aldonza...Cris has NOT been hiding it well, but R's devotion just has me solidly sitting at his table last night. My hope, Allie admits to her feelings for Cris, but in the next episode she tells Renato there is no hope and she needs to move on. Give him some hope.
I don't want him looking to turn dark and try to bury Cris to win the girl. No No No.

As for Mary. Her parents should take her by her pony tail and whip her off to school or out of town. There should be no way we see any type of Mari/E-Man pairing after that. He may have lost Lola, but Mari gets her mitts into him would be wrong on every level.

I still vote E-Man and Cris on a road trip out of town, get jobs or higher schooling. E-Man could come back all suave and polished. Then when the truth hits the fan, he's ready to help take over the manse. Kudos for Lola to admit she started the whole pitch to E-Man, but I could hardly watch his drunken pain. I need a Kleenex just thinking about it. Sniff.

I am now convinced that the problem with Mari and Lardo is Irma. She may be a good boss, but the way they both immediately go crying to "Mama" when Uriel puts his foot down tells me Mom had a tendency to always take their side and make excuses for them. Worked well didn't it Irma?

So do we have an inept police force because Lardo's fingerprints are ALL over that office if anyone wanted to check.

Boy we needed the weekend to regroup after all that.

Daisynjay

Ooooh! Doris, you go Girl, it's on!

Lord have mercy. Y'all, I hope "they" never take a Leading Lady through what Aldonza's going through. Her bravely facing that is going to make anything Cris does look impotent and taint his desire to possess her.

Hella at 1:08 a.m., everything you said about Renato is so true and I love him as well but I will stick to referee and also try to stick up for Cris. Damned novela gods!

I am pleased to see real chemistry and attraction between E-man and Lola. They are darling together.

Did anyone else get the impression that E-man wanted to stay and tell Lola that she may have made the first move, but he's sure she is the one he wants?

Lila- old age and treachery will win out

LOLOLOL!!! I can see I'm going up against a pro! I would need to take pages out of some TN villainesses books to even have a chance! ;)

David and Lila - I'm with you guys on the Cris front, but he is hanging by a thread. I will give him that he doesn't know what happened to Aldonza and that we didn't get those scenes early on to give weight to his love (the scenes in which Ald and Ren were talking in the gazebo were what I wanted for Cris and Ald pre-Sevhorror). But I'll also say that if I were Ald and my ex almost attacked me with a kiss at his own freakin engagement party, I'd be like "maybe I dodged a bullet with that one). Now that it's come to a head in his mind, now that he can't ignore his feelings anymore, that Monday preview better be serious because that's as much slack as he can get.

On a similar but related note: Cande, Cande, Cande. Girl, do you know your son at all? You’ve moved beyond edentulous pup to full on idiot. Que lastima que Sev is right. I hate when Sev is right.

Ugh and every time I think about his drunkenness I get madder and madder at Vile and Mary. And Cris too. You're so right, Kat... Cris should be helping him, not making out in a gazebo.

Lila, "they gently rock and sway, taking turns tasting the wellsprings of one another’s passion" was beautiful. Simply beautiful.

Needless to say, the entire recap was a joy.

"he presses his foul mouth over hers, a vile and intrusive assault!" was the worst moment drawn with crystal clear clarity.

“Let me make it clear, if you’re going to mess with Aldonza, you have to mess with me first. She is not alone!” and "Through all this Renato listens carefully and is quite dashing and tenderly attentive". Exactly how many Renato tables are on the patio now? Uh oh, skirmish on the patio? I feel perhaps it might be best if doris, Sara, hellashelle and myself occupy separate tables ;)

Seriously, unless there is some dark soul we've yet to see, Renato is the entire package. Solid, supportive and simply sublime. Sigh.

Lila, you alluded to the fact Cande regarded the good Padre with an approving look. I think last night did reveal he was her love. Secret obsession? "[Cue ominous woodwinds.]". Unrequited and unreturned love is my guess. To me, he is the true galan here. He encompasses every virtue required, but is celibate.

David, your question on shy Sev and Cande got together was an excellent one. And I have no theory whatsoever.I wonder if we will get the backstory.

Kat, "Candela must have had that place sprayed down with pheromones!" Fantastic line. And I am grinning ear to ear that Cande's plan has obviously backfired in the worst way. Those kisses were amazing and I will be shocked if Cris goes through with the weding.

What childish tricks from Mary. Uriel and Mary will have enough heartache from their sad sack of a son, too bad their daughter is such a loser as well. When bad things happen to good parents.

I'll echo David's Happy Easter and
Happy Passover to each and every one.

Lila, marvelous.

Diana

Diana I think this show is the complete package!

daisy, our comments were being written at the same time. "As for Mary. Her parents should take her by her pony tail and whip her off to school or out of town" had me laughing - great line.

With all of us at the Renato table, Cris' table is sparsely populated :)

Sara, I hope that Em and Lola will end up together, but I'm not sure he is there yet?? He seems to have a "wrong woman" penchant and I'm not totally convinced Val is out of his head...and that Mary is out of his hair.

Diana

Sara, yes, complete package is right!

I really wasn't sure that I would be as into this after Roberta/Susana "left", but the story and acting has been stellar - Michelle is mesmerizing.

Diana

Well I hope that little stunt Mary pulled at least dropped her down on E-man's list of crushes.

Thank you, Daisy! I don't want him looking to turn dark and try to bury Cris to win the girl. No No No. Amen! I don't want to see that happen to Renato, either! With what "they" have already done to us, I wouldn't be surprised! Sev's threat/promise when Renato knocked him on his ass makes me afraid for Renato!

OMG I LOVE MICHELLE!

I will make her shows a priority in the future (unless it is a Latoodle, Mejia or Osorio production.)

I don't think anyone on the patio wants Renato to go rogue.

Diana! I always enjoy your beautifully sensitive comments and the way you appreciate the recap AND the ensuing discussion! Thank you, Girl!

Seriously, unless there is some dark soul we've yet to see, Renato is the entire package. Solid, supportive and simply sublime. Sigh.

[Padre J] To me, he is the true galan here. He encompasses every virtue required, but is celibate.

Poor Cris, everybody is looking more Galanly than he!

Help us hang on to Cris's thread, Hella! If he wimps out of breaking up with Vile, I think that thread may break and David and I will have to keep Cris's table occupied!

Gringo! Our other Brother on the patio! We know you love Donnie, where do you stand on Cris and Renato?

Wow, Lila, great job, your THE KISS 2.0 read like a steamy love novel. You must have rewinded and rewinded in order to get the sequence have hand placements and where the eyes were looking at each moment, lol.
Cris better break off that engagement after that, or he is worse than a wet noodle.

I kept yelling at Aldonza to knee Sev in the groin when he grabbed her. She needs to take a self defense course if she's going to stick around San Lucia.

I really hope this was the first time Emanuel tried alcohol because he's a sloppy drunk and I don't want Lola with him again if he does this when he drinks.

Talking about some of you were uncomfortable with Cris grabbing Aldonza to kiss her, I would feel the same way if she didn't kiss him back or lunge toward him herself to kiss him. But she returned it and more, so I didn't look at it like he was assaulting her.

Last night, I was giving Aldonza a standing ovation for the way she handled herself after Sev's assault. Such dignity! Such class! She had been this way in every assault against her by various antagonists. Aldonza's behavior is not found in the telenovela rules. Our heroine is in a class by herself.

Sara - may I borrow the leopard belt on your melon ? I need it for my cougar outfit. ;-)

I agree with you cathyx! Aldonza kissed him back and grabbed him for a kiss so it did make it less uncomfortable for me too.

doris- YES! The Aldonza character breaks all the rules and I love it!

Oh and of course you are free to borrow my belt for cougar purposes!

Lila reading your recap was like watching the whole ep again, only better. Agree with CathyX it read like a steamy novel...it was a smokey, delicious recap!

I'm wading into the muddy Renato-fest; he is fast becoming my favorite. *Sighs* Sure, I'm old enough to be his (*ahem*) aunt but since we're dreaming, I'll make myself about 26. Renato, come to meeeeee.....

Looking forward to replaying THE KISS in my mind all weekend long.
(Even if it wasn't with Renato.)

J in Oregon

My daughter is turning 26 in August! See? Renato is perfect for her!

I'm in the mud match but I'm fighting to make him my yerno!

Thank you, Cathyx! Yes, I enjoyed rewinding The Kiss to get it all down right, tried to zero in on the animal act of it all and not think about Sev or that Ctis was at his engagement party though those elements are all fair game for our debriefing now!

Yes to you and someone else suggested self defense courses for Aldonza. That's a great idea! They want to update these novelas for techy things like cell phones, why don't they update the sexual assault storyline and get some counseling or self-defense classes written in! Even without classes a well-placed knee could put a stop to a lot of that sh*t! If she doesn't think of it, maybe Renato can suggest it!

Sara - may I borrow the leopard belt on your melon ? I need it for my cougar outfit. ;-)

Oh, gosh, I LOVE it!

;D

English needs to take on the word consuegro/consuegra. We have no equivalent.

So what will Cris do???

Thanks, J! Renato, come to meeeeee.....

Hee Hee! I think a lot of us are young enough to be his *ahem* aunt!

Oh, Lord! Yes, I'm glad many of you realize Aldonza was all up in the KISSES and went after Cris as well. I just hate that two out of three times that they "made love" Sev also forced himself on her the SAME DAY! I hope they will lay off the Severiano assaults on Aldonza. We get the freaking point!

Phew! That said, I'm going to review that kiss that comes at about 30" into the ep!

;D

Thanks Lila for a super recap. To all the did the recaps this week, much appreciated as well.

I will be sitting at the Renato table, but will just observe the mud wrestling while enjoying a mojito this evening. And Chris, grow a pair, you are too much of loser to deserve Aldonza.

Doris, I am so happy to see there is another Grantchest fan on the patio.

Happy Easter, Happy Passover to all.

I'm a little worried about something though.

What if Sev's lawyer does find some clause they can take advantage of?

I know Renato said the contract looked airtight, but I'm so afraid he missed something and Aldonza is going to get screwed.

Sara, what a perfect present Renato would be for your daughter! I wish those kinds of presents were around when I was young, many, many years ago!

J in Oregon, I see you've joined the Renato tables in grand style.

Diana

Thanks, Emeraldrose!

The heat's on, Cris!

With the contract in play, that may play even further into thwarting Sevs's plans to have Renato come forward and tell the creep--"excuse me, I'm a lawyer". I wonder if Sev will try to either bribe him or blackmail him somehow. Hope that skirt chasing father of his doesn't cause him trouble on that front.

Over my morning rewatch (it was just too good), if Cris' spine grows three sizes next episode and he tries to break it off with Val (her bug eyes have me wondering in the preview), are we going to get the horrendous fake pregnancy plot? Heck, Val can take a play right out of Mari's playbook, either get Cris drunk or get a hold of some drugs from dear old dad's office. Claim they slept together and enlist Lardo to "seal the deal". I remember her telling him something like she was willing but she called the time and place? Am I remembering that wrong?

I REALLLLLYYYY hate that old tired plot line, but I could see it happening. I keep thinking we're too early in things to not have Cris somehow roped back in to Val.

Let's face it, ever watch a TN drama where someone didn't pull something fake with a baby or pregnancy? Those poor little munchkins.

Thankfully I have sons, so I can do my Renato dreaming for myself even though I am also old enough...well, old enough. Have to admit, I am a sucker for his hair, it's that perfect "run your fingers thru" length.

Another idea I had on E-Man. If he loses his job, maybe that would open up a possibility of Aldonza hiring him to run her place? I think she could placate Lola on why she was helping him and help those two patch things up.

Daisynjay

Sara - would not surprise me at all if Sev's abogado finds some sort of loophole or even some way to contest the lease. Hopefully Renato used an iron-clad lease form. But, still, we have HOW MANY episodes to go in this? The writers have to fill it with all sorts of drama.

Sara, you're such a worry wart. I trust that Renato is thorough.☺ If Aldonza is going to get her land and house back, then it will take some time to manage that feat. I think the interaction between Sev and Aldonza won't be about him being able to throw them out of the house, the story needs her right there, but about Aldonza's steps to thwart Sev's ownership of it and putting to screws to his hold on the property. Hopefully it will be slow and very painful.

Because Aldonza had that Ag degree, my bet is that she will farm the land and turn enough profit to buy out Humberto. IF Sev doesn't set fire to the crops. She needs a dog. Several dogs. Big, mean ones, to guard the property.

It's true. I'm a worry wart. And it is very unfaithful of me to doubt Renato's skill.

I'm also thinking that despite the avances, we are going to have Cris roped back into Val. Drat.

I would LOVE to see E-man working with Aldonza rather than Sev.

Daisy, that's an excellent idea, E-man working for Aldonza! It's a perfect fit!

Agree with all of you: it's too early for Vale not to have her hooks in Cris which increases his wimp factor and the chirp of crickets at his table.

And sadly, there probably will be the old pregnancy trick. Yea, Vale did promise to break Lardo off a little somethin' somethin' as payment for getting Aldonza out of her way. Who knows how she defines that.

I wish somebody would figure out a way to make an exciting show where the two lovers don't spend nine tenths of the show apart and even hating each other. They really are starting to go overboard.

"... chirp of crickets at his table..."

Haha!

I agree Lila. I think there is a way to do that, but it's like it's some rule or something. Even in QA, Max and Amaya could have worked together, but they didn't take that route.

A couple of my comments before I read the recap and all of the patio's comments.

I got cheated last night. Only one punch, that's all that Sever got. I was hoping for more--I would have paid extra for a nice black eye for Sev to take back to the party and proudly display what he got for threating and abusing Aldonza but DAMN!!! we weren't treated to that. Why do the bad guys get off so easily? Ten minutes later, you didn't even know that he had been hit.

I just get sick thinking about the upcoming marriage and a pregnant Val as a result.

So Diva, Do you still think that high classed Val isn't really low classed Val in disguise? She sure worked her low classed plan for Mari against Lola. I guess that Mari isn't good enough to win E-man fair and square but then low classed dirty trick Val was all too glad to help out. Bruja Val was very proud of herself for what she started.
the gringo

The Cris and Aldonza interaction starts at 23 minutes on hulu+

;D

Okay guys, rewatching Cris's declaracion de amor y BESOSOTE and just tweaked the dialogue a little. She agreed with him that she loved him too.

Amor Bravio broke that rule. The main couple loved each other and respected each other throughout the show. I won't spoil why they were separated, but it wasn't because they didn't continue to love each other.

Don't remember why I didn't watch that. Was it a 10 o'clocker?

I think Pasion was the same, they need to do that more often. Separation by tricky slut pawning off her spawn as that of the galan's is sooooo tired!

I'm glad my prediction that Lola would catch Emanuel and Mari in bed didn't happen. In fact, when all they did was get caught kissing on the dance floor, I laughed out loud. My bad cliched tainted mind went waaaay too far with this one.

Speaking of bad cliches, I hope hope hope that Val doesn't try to snag Cris with the pregnant by another man trick. And then they get married, Aldonza then tries to start a relationship with Renato, but she never really feels it, Cris and Al make sad lovers eyes at each other for years, blah, blah, blah. I would be very disappointed considering how well this has started out.

Lila, yes, it was at 10:00pm. It's the best TN I've ever viewed, so I highly recommend it. And it has Cristian de la Fuente, mmm hmm!

Lila, you overwhelmed me after the first few paragraphs.

"Ah, sweet baby Je. . . .they gently rock and sway, taking turns tasting the wellsprings of one another’s passion"

Whew, I wanted Cris to do sumpin and he did, what I didn't expect was Aldonza lunging at him.

Melesio - dammit boy, "This ain't no party, this ain't no disco, this ain't no fooling around"

Emmanuel - I plead a fifth

Severiano - little punk surprised me from behind, who does that crap?

Cris - what a foul aftertaste, you been kissing a horses ass?

Aldonza - backed into a corner, I've learned to kiss my way out

Cande - asked myself a hundred times why, I know I'm prettier than god

Renato - maybe no tongue was involved so there's still hope

PJ - secrets drive me nuts

I think Cande married Seve in an act of rebellion after she couldn't have Jerry. In her "I'll show HIM" mode, she turned to the completely opposite "bad boy" and sealed her fate.

Good theory Anon2:02!

I am still kicking myself over Amor Bravio. It's another one I judged too quickly. I'm beginning to learn that for me I need at least three weeks to really judge a show.

tofie- thanks for another fine list! Lovin' Cande's entry!

Tofie! Hey, Girl! Thank you! Wondered when you were going to stop by the patio! You hit 'em hard with your list! I don't know whose line to pick! I can see Cande when I read her line! Ha! I'd love to read a recap from you one day!

I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend!

Add me to the chorus hoping we get a LOT more backstory about Cande, Padre J, and Sev. I want to know how the heck that all went down.

Poor empty Cris table! Well, he still has a chance. He hasn't done anything horrible enough that he can't come back from.

Doris, yes! I love Grantchester! Sidney and Padre J would get on like a house on fire.

Which makes me think of Sidney's beloved jazz music, which takes me back to the party, and was it just me...or was the saxophonist trying to play jazz while the strings were playing classical? Until the dancing started there was some really trippy stuff going on with the music. Like they got told "Oh, just play anything, we're going to add the real music in post-production."

Maybe I didn't quite grasp all the subtleties of the plan, what with not thinking like a pre-teen, but how is this supposed to work now with Drunk!Em, Lola, and Mari. On the Lola side, that all makes sense--boyfriend got drunk, kissed another girl, the whole thing was a sham anyway, so let's call it off. On the Mari side, as far as her parents are concerned, some guy who can't handle his liquor, and is supposed to be dating another girl, forced a kiss on their daughter in front of the entire town. And she thinks she can turn that into "Emmanuel and I are dating!" Nope, nope. I don't get it.

cathyx, I was also a little nervous when the kissing started, but then she grabbed him and I was relieved...but shocked...and then she let him go and I understood that, and then she grabbed him again...it was an emotional rollercoaster of snogging, I tell ya!

My money is on the breaking of the contract having nothing to do with how well the contract is written, but who Sev's shady lawyer can bribe. I also don't get THIS plot, because I'm clearly not evil or corrupt enough. The contract is between Aldonza and Humberto, so even if there were loopholes in it big enough to drive a truck through, what does it matter as long as the two of them are in agreement? Oh, well, I guess we'll find out?

tofie, your line for Cande is my favorite today :D

Uh oh. What happens if one party of the contract dies?

Sara, it's you and I, Girl, looks like we're the only ones who didn't see it but I don't think I've ever seen a 10 o'clocker. Back when I was a spring chicken I used to stay up all the time to watch the Late show at 11:30 (read with a creaky "old lady" voice).

;)

I'm not saying anyone will... But Hum has been mighty uppity. And we've got another doctor character....

Lila, I can't do 10ers either. It was pushing it to do the 9er when I first started with STuD (wasn't it a 9er?)

I was pissed when they moved LQNPA to 10 and went to 4 TNs a night.

The 7/6 and 8/7 slots are perfect for me. Anything else gets recorded.

OK, let me think. Humberto owns the property. If he dies it goes to whoever he left it to in his will, and I guess that person will be Aldonza's landlord. If he doesn't have a will, that person will probably be Pru. Yeah, that spells disaster.

Still, she paid up for a year, and Renato assured her that until the year is up, she has nothing to worry about. Or maybe that's just the way I interpreted what he said.

Hey, Diva! All I can say about the music is that it was funny to hear a few bars of "American Bandstand!"

Yah, Mary's plan is as stoopid as she and Vale are. AND the rental contract thing is foggy as well. Glad to hear I'm not the only one.

Any sort of "plotting" generally doesn't make sense to me until it gets carried out. And sometimes even then it makes no sense!

See, now, if I were doing the plotting, I would be looking at the original contract for the sale of the land and looking for a way to invalidate THAT instead of the rental contract.

As far as breaking up Lola and Emmanuel...gosh, I can't even think of anything. Drunkenness would not be included, because I'd still have to bring him home to mommy and daddy. Maybe just getting Lola mistakenly summoned to the kitchen and dancing with him while she's gone would be enough to start a fight? Ugh, clearly I'm not cut out for romantic dramaaaaah.

Been racking my brain over the lease, the original still exist. If Severiano wanted to know the amount all he would have to do is ask Uriel, round about. Perhaps, Severiano plans on the house changing hands and landing in his. He made several references about getting Simoneta a place outside town but it wasn't available yet, will he try to move her in with the new tenets? I thought the plan was to give the house and the land to Cris and Val when they married but if they don't what then?

I like Emmanuel but last night was stupid and wished he wasn't made to be a dunce.

Not defending Mary, but she is kind of right when she says E-man likes her. Even E-man doesn't know who he wants. Mary was just trying to push things along.

But shouldn't having to get your love interest drunk in order to get a kiss tell you something?

I do enjoy seeing Alex Sirvent cut loose. I've always seen him in such serious roles.

Yah, Tofie, I don't want E-man to become a bufoon in one of those "comedic" filler subplots! I'm with the housekeeper in the kitchen who was listening to the whole thing and just shaking her head.

You know guys, the way Aldonza did indeed lunge at Chris and pull him in for their besotes suggests to me she not only loves Cris but has a healthy sex drive. She IS our Roberta's daughter!

Sara, I also had the impression that Emmanuel was about to confess that he really does like Lola, even though things started under false pretenses. Can we have that when he's sober, though? And after he's told Mari to her face...and possibly in front of her parents..that he's sorry he kissed her (even though we all know it was HER) but he doesn't like her. Not for the humiliation factor, but so he has witnesses. And then he can start wooing Lola. Sober.

Lol, Lila, yeah, she was feeling a little something something! Roberta's daughter, but with Ray's good solid head on her shoulders.

Sara and Diva, I think you all are right about E-man wanting to profess his love for Lola. Lola just did NOT give him a chance.

I like that Uriel wants to get E-man's version of what happened. I just hope E-man is not afraid to tell Mary's father that he doesn't like her like that and SHE was the one who kissed him.

Mele is also going to talk to E-man I hope E-man has the guts not to be intimidated by Mele and tell him how it really went down and that he really loves Lola.

All of this probably makes too much sense.

I know. I never know what to think with this show! Especially after the last one. It's not that they're going for 100% realism, but they're so much closer. I feel like every time I "wish" for something, I end up getting it. It's a little disconcerting.

Don't drink and woo.

Kat- it *is* amazing that this show has almost everything I could want. Mainly a smart, tough, independent prota who wears pants not little girl dresses or mini skirts.

Pease wish for Cris to have a spine.

And for Aldonza to tell someone about the rape and get some help for that.

And this is so stupid, but I get so happy for my fellow recappers when they get good episodes like this. This kissing I mean.

I second and third everyone's plea for self defense courses. I hope that happens when Aldonza really starts working through the trauma (lots of potential for sensual wooing when she's practicing her moves too...)

I'll sit at Cris's table, but I'm talking to the folks at Ren's. I still think it'll be A&C, of course, in the end, but I really appreciate Ren's level headed approach to everything. He doesn't go flying off the handle like so many others often do and he knows what he wants and makes no secret of it.

Oh, I'm thrilled when somebody other than me gets an exciting episode! I'm always so grateful to have such a solid team and it feels like the show is rewarding the team with juicy episodes.

Things I wish for this show...

Yes, definitely for Cris to get a spine.

I wish for more friendship. Like maybe between Em, Cris, and Renato. I mean, Cris needs some perspective and somebody to talk to/advise him besides his manipulative parents, manipulative fiancee, manipulative godmother....

I wish for the young people to work together and revive El Santuario, if that's indeed included in "mis planes".

I wish for Cris and Renato to NEVER have that stupid conversation where they agree that they're both going to "fight" for Aldonza and let her choose between them.

I wish for Aldonza to keep having plans that don't include romance until she's actually ready and NEVER get to that point where she says "I have to pick somebody."

I wish for Mari and Lola to have some greater ambition in life than snagging a boy.

I'm sure there's no doubt that it will be A&C in the end. I just hope Cris get a little less passive before we get there.

Welcome, HellaShelle! Oh, absolutely we talk to and drink with and yuk it up with the people at Renato's table. I love him too, I just want Cris rehabbed and his strings cut cause he has been strung along by Cande all his life and I'm still pissed at that. . ."Oh, look who I happened to run into in Spain! Cris Mendoza!" Cris smelled that rat right away and let Val whip him out of it!

It's definitely going to be A & C. If it's in the cards for them to "get to know" each other, they're going to need another waterfall to put out the fire: those kids are HOT!

AND, if this kiss changes the course of the story as the announcer said, if they ever DO "know" each other, Aldonza will have him eating out of her hand.

But, since that hasn't happened yet, I want to see how this kiss and knowing that Aldonza loves him will change our doe-eyed galan!

That was how I was after Corazon Indomable. I was so burned by that, I didn't trust the next TN. In fact, La Gata followed it and it looked like a remake of CI and I knew who was directing that one, so I ran for the hills.

cathyx, I think all of us that slogged through to the end of CI were running somewhere...personally it was nightly to me Wine bottle. That one took bad writing to a whole 'nother level.

Have to say this TN is renewing my faith that with the right people involved, even a remake can have quality, though I wish there were more original scripts being put out there.

My fondest wish is that when this TN is over, there is a special showing all the outtakes. There has to be some wondrous ones, anyone acting with Cynthia while she plays a drunken Pru and I'm guessing Alex's cutting loose on the dance floor caused a few chuckles and retakes. I especially was fond of the one-leg hop step. Bro has some moves....

Daisynjay

That final shot of Cris & Aldonza, with her in the looooong red gown, is the "carrot on the stick." (but I'm staying at the Renato table)

"I wish for Cris and Renato to NEVER have that stupid conversation where they agree that they're both going to "fight" for Aldonza and let her choose between them."
Reminds me of a collection of (golf-theme) short stores by P.G. Wodehouse, The Golf Omnibus (great book!). In one of them, two guys are wooing the same girl. The guys decide to play a round of golf and winner keeps the girl. The round is so good they decide to ditch the girl and stay golf buddies, instead. LOL!

Lol, that is a refreshing change!

Hi, all. After a day of running around getting Easter flowers for the cemetary and cake and pie for Easter dinner tomorrow, I finally had a chance to read the recap and comments...wow...so many strong, lusty feelings !

Thanks, Lila, for that snappy recap, especially for that DETAILED description of the kinssing scene. Wow, I,too, thought that I was reading a romance novel. Gee, I do not think that I have ever seen a love scene with so much grabbing, pushing away, and regrabbing by both parties. It was definitely an "I can't fight this feeling anymore" for both Chris and AL.

Although I think that Renato is better for AL, we all know that the leading lady ends up with her one true love at the end. Chris has to call off that wedding , and AL has to tell more people what Sev did for her own protection. if she won't tell Chris, she has to tell Padre, Ren, and Joaquin so that they know how dangerous Sev is.

Nobody asked this burning question : Does E-man now have return the candy house?

As for the bevy of suitors lining up for Renato , I, too, think that he is a crackerjack kind of guy. I might wear Leopard from head to toe or maybe a whole cougar outfit to pursue him. I have never wrestled ...in the mud anyway, but I am all about new experiences.

Sara, about your plan to snare Renato for your daughter, you might want to rethink that. I have two daughters and have NEVER had any success at matchmaking.

Lila..whew..I am glad that I am not the only one who heard the theme from American Bandstand..thank you Barry Manilow. Do you think they had to pay him ?

Happy Holidays to all who are celebrating. Anyone cooking? What's on your menu?

Lol, Susanlynn! My matchmaking efforts have yielded similar results which is why I now just matchmake with TN galans. I send her random pics and she let's me know if they are cute or not. My record picking TN cuties is pretty good. She's approved of Pierre Louis and Luciano Zacharski.

I just realized I need to send her a pic or Renato...

Hi, Susanlynn! Thank you, Girl! My, Renato has broken a lot of hearts and he's gonna have some heartache tonight we know - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snPgFNMCXBs -

It would be so cool if Renato could become accepting of Donnie's choice and help them get together. I think that's in Diva's wish for more friendship. Let the evil come from Sev, Vile and Pru et. al. We don't want our Renato hurt or darkened!

I'm so angry over that low classed piece of trash rich girl Valeria. A childish prank? Yes but it worked. Mary will have no competition to her conquest of E-man now. Even if Lola calms down and accepts Manuel's explanation about what happened, I doubt that Mel would let him near Lola again. Mary will now put on the full court press of Emanuel.

In the intro each night, isn't it Mary that we see with E-man?

Thank You Lila for a wonderful recap to a wonderful novela.

So what is gringo's take on Cris and Renato? I got upset reading some of the comments concerning Chris's roughness overly aggressiveness or whatever else it was called towards Aldonza. I think that the feminazi's of the 60's/70's? have gone way too far. Today if a guy so much as grabs an arm, well he's some kind of mean gorilla. OH REALLY? Yes, Chris grabbed Ali and pulled her in for a kiss AND----she wrapped herself all around him.

Chris is a good guy that is caught between a rock and a hard place. What to do? Go along with your very strict family and marry the woman that they have chosen for you or fight for the one that you love? YES!!! He grabbed Aldonza's arm---he was fighting in the only way that he knew for the women that he really loves.

The only thing that he did wrong was to give bruja Val the ring. He has now dug a deeper hole in which to crawl out of.

Renato is more refined and a gentleman. Chris could take some lessons from him.
the gringo

You lost me at "feminazi." Fighting for equal rights for women is in no way comparable to the kind of racism that leads to genocide.

Oh, joke's on me, the spam filter strikes again!

What?

I don't want to be a referee and I would bet that David doesn't either to any boxing or wrestling
matches out on the patio fighting over Renato. Please ladies control. Calmate.
the gringo

Responding to something that showed up in email but Blogger didn't post...yet again. Delete at will.

The gringo has been banned from Caray, Caray! My comment is gone
vanished once again.
the gringo

Gringo -i see your comment where you ask the ladies to calmate.
???

Es cálmense...no cálmate. You are speaking to all the ladies and therefore need the plural imperative.

:-D

Genocide has nothing to do with the radicals of the 60/70's but what that movement has lead to is that today if a man so much as grabs hold of a women's arm to talk to her - Chris to Aldonza, he's a mean rude gorilla aggressor
which is ridiculous.
the gringo

Gringo..I see the calmate comment, too. My comments disappeared for a couple months until my bad bug Apple IPad had a new update. Very frustrating.

Ladies? What ladies? I'm a woman, y a mucha honra.

But appropriating the term Nazi for said radicals is hyperbolic and unnecessary. Please don't do it.

Dammit Kat. Now I've got Maria la del barrio running through my head.

Sara---I can't even do English correctly, how am I expected to get Spanish correct?

My big comment vanished. Do I have to sign into blogger?
the gringo

I'm just pulling my teacher crap. I saw a teachable moment and went for it. Lol.

Now girls, you had better be glad I'm staying put at the Cris table after last night, though I admit had that not gone down, I was eyeballing Renato, cause I pulled out my ollllllld cheerleader uniforms and the one from university almost fits! Gimme a C

There's a way to get the theme song out of your head, but it involves replacing it with something more annoying, so I'd better not say....

I lost one just now, I think I posted at the same time as someone else. Anyway, what I said, Gringo, was that I will referee the mud wrestling, all I wanted to know from you as a man and fan of Aldonza was which guy do you like for her: Cris or Renato?

;D

try this, don't worry be happy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-diB65scQU

Well now I have to know what's more annoying than that theme song!

tofie et al- I have you all beat with my sexy droopy drawer jammies that might have a few food stains on the front.

Worked for me, tofie!

I'm not even participating in the Battle To Win Renato. I was going to sell tickets. And t-shirts. So we have contestants lined up, PR, a ref...I guess we need someone to construct the actual, uh, battleground?

Is it too late to make this a dance-off to Pat Benetar?

https://youtu.be/IGVZOLV9SPo

Sara---That term was used by Rush for a long time by Rush when referring to the radicals within a movement. it had nothing to do with Germany. Look up the word in Wikipedia

We are experiencing the results of that movement today by the reaction to Cris and Aldonza last night. Now if a man grabs hold of a woman's arm to talk to her, he is mean. rude, aggressive, a bad guy which Chris is not.

Who is better for Donnie? She loves Chris. That says it all.
I tried to answer that but my large comment vanished.
the gringo

How the hell does Nazi NOT have anything to do with Germany?

Just don't use the term. Punto.

Anyway---I'm done for now. Blogger is mad at me, it eats my comments. Maybe tomorrow blogger will be feeling better.
the gringo

Rush said it, so it's okay? I can't back you on that.

It's not radical to think a woman should have the right to decide who touches her and how. And it is really not radical to think a woman should have the right to an opinion about the way one character on a TV show treats another character. We do that all day every day.

It was a word created to refer to aggressiveness, not Germany. It was referring to the radical element of the movement but I guess that I am more laid back than others. Things, words don't upset me so much. However I won't use it again.
the gringo

Diva---Aldonza wasn't harmed in any way by Chris. I do however think that it would be a good thing foe Ali to enroll in a Kung Fu class. As long as Sever is running around out of control, she will either need some protection or Kung Fu training.
the gringo

I can respect that your opinion differs. And that's really all you had to say was "I don't agree."

There's no need for the rest of it, blaming it on the feminist movement? Name-calling? Basically telling everyone who did think there was something wrong with his behavior that you have a low opinion of us? That's not cool.

One time I used the word dingbat and got tarred and feathered for it. I guess that I was supposed to be insulting ALL women but I was just talking about one person. Archie Bunker never knew what he started. Many are so word sensitive. Most of the time, they just bounce off of me.
the gringo

Why thank you, yes, I am sensitive to how I use words, and I'm careful to say what I mean. Y a mucha honra.

Sorry, Sara! Did it again!

Britney Spears! NOOOOOO!

I wasn't saying that I had a low opinion of anyone. I do feel however that one element that came out of the 60's was that most all men are mean and abusive, mere beasts so to speak that drag their women around by their hair and in some way abuse them---Chris? and it just isn't true. Most men, at least those that I know are not like that at all.
the gringo

Sara---Britney will be singing at the next Super Bowl half time show
the gringo

Cris didn't just grab a lady's arm. He grabbed a rape victim's arm. He grabbed the arm of a rape victim who had just been attacked again by the rapist. So yes. Some of us cringed.

And yes it's just a show, but sometimes we (as in humans) react emotionally to the strangest things.

Who said jack about "all men"? And once again, anybody who thought that was an asshat move has the right to their opinion, just like you have the right to the opinion that there really wasn't anything so bad about it. Why you have to keep bringing it back to feminism is beyond me.

And frankly you don't grab anyone. If I grabbed a child's arm in the classroom I would be skewered.

Who said jack about all men? It's a common thought that runs through society today that men in general are beasts and that thinking started out of the radical 60's movement.

And yes Diva everyone has a right to their opinion.

Aldonza gave us her opinion of the arm grab---she wrapped herself around Chris.

Anyway this has gone way too far and I was going to quit more than an hour ago.

I said in my vanished comment that Lola probably has lost E-man
because even if by chance that they sit down and make up, Mel won't let him near Lola now. It probably will be smooth sailing for Mary.
the gringo

Except that, being a feminist, I don't believe Emmanuel is a mindless beast, so I think he has some say in who he wants to date and I don't think it's Mari.

Diva---Not sure about that but we will see how it goes when Mary puts her moves on him.

Isn't it Mary and E-man that we see together each night in the intro? I have to look again.
the gringo

Emanuel doesn't seem to be too into either Mari or Lola. He likes to kiss Lola, but he never said he wanted a relationship with her. I hope that Lola stays away from him because it seemed it was all one sided.

And I don't think there was ever a 'men are beasts' movement, it was more of a 'women stopped feeling like they had to put up with whatever men did' movement. And I would say that probably was around the 60s and 70s. It was called women's lib.

They switch everyone around in the intro and then end with the big obvious Cris and Aldonza moment. They're being sneaky.

Actually, I was wrong...Cris, Aldonza, and Valeria get mixed and matched. Lola is looking on as Mari romances the back of someone's head, which does look a lot like Emmanuel's. But none of what was going on looked definitive except for Cris and Aldonza together. Some of the scenes were lifted straight from the show footage and others were re-enactments or echoes of things we've seen. I don't think there's anything in the intro that hasn't been seen/explained yet.

The biggest one for me was that for some reason I never recognized Joaquin as the guy who's standing in the foreground while the woman with the child stands behind him glaring. It still doesn't look like him to me!

I was floored when someone said that was Joaco. I still can't believe that's him!

The angle is weird or he's too close to the camera or something, I dunno.

I'm curious how they did some of the clips, like Roberta walking in all bloody into the generic house. Did they shoot that separately, at some time before they shot the actual scene? And why?

And now I get the Padre J and Candela bit...though I still want more backstory!

I'm just glad Roberta is still in the opening credits. I miss her and I'll what a can get.

I want back story that involves getting to see Roberta again.

There must be some. I don't see how a past with Padre J where he dumped her to have a long-term relationship with God would lead her to dislike Roberta so much. Roberta had nothing to do with that!

Well, I'm still at the Cande really wanted Ray table.

But last night's scenes kind of ruined that theory for me.

Maybe Roberta violated Padre J in some way and he felt so dirty he had to give his life to God?

That would be quite a stretch!

What if it wasn't a romantic relationship thing at all? What if the three of them had always had some kind of plans involving the two ranches and then one day Jeronimo just up and leaves and Ray marries Roberta and the plans go out the window and she ends up with Sev instead.

Like a booby prize?

Maybe Cande's father wanted her to marry and Alcocer boy. Padre was her first choice, but he left. Cande tries her luck with Ray. Roberta wins him. Cande gets stuck with Sev.

But she really did seem so happy with Sev in episode 1!

(I meant the "Roberta violated Padre" as a joke mainly. )

We need more info!!!

I did not recognize Joaquin in the intro. He seemed to have his hat on a lot at the beginning of the novela.

I cannot figure out how Sev can mess with that contract since Hum owns the property and has rented it to AL. Most people do not know how rotten and dangerous Sev is. I am afraid that he is going to go after Ren now that Ren has become Al's protector and champion. I wonder how Simonetta is going to figure in all of this.

If Chris is PadreJer's son, he and AL would be cousins, but Chris and Vile are second cousins , and nobody thinks it is odd that they are engaged. I wonder if cousins marrying is normal in Mexico.

I have no idea where this storyline is headed.

"I have no idea where this storyline is headed."

AND IT'S WONDERFUL!!!

After TSTSNBN* it is so refreshing.

*It was always Lorenza or Gisela. No surprises ever.

I agree, she was happy (or whatever passes for it in the Cande-verse) with Sev until she found out he'd cheated on her with Roberta. Until then, she probably thought she was getting the next best thing to being "in love"--someone who was a good provider, respectful, they had a child, they obviously got along well. And then he screwed it all up.

When she talks to Dominga, Dominga has said Cande gave up love. When she talks to Cris and Val she talks like she chose stability, etc. and love is overrated.

Just to add to the confusion!

Susanlynn, I agree, Severiano is totally going to go after Renato now. The question is, Sev is clearly a big fish in a little pond. How does he stack up against big-city Renato?

Cande probably tried to manage every signle aspect of Jeronimo's life -- he saw her for the obsessive control freak she was, swore off all women forever and threw in with the Lord! That look he threw her after they sat down at the table was priceless!

I hope Renato is well-connected in the big city and can bring some of these resources to bear when Sev comes down on him. Sev does his dirt in the dark and via flunkies and stooges like Lardzard. All the connections in the world won't help you if some asshole runs you through in an alley.

I wonder if she tried to manage Sev, in the early days. Did she not do it, or did he not mind, or was it just that they always happened to agree?

It really bugs me the way even Uriel will address him as "Don Severiano" and he'll say "we're friends" but he never tells him "hey, you don't have to call me Don." He gets off on being the king of this little town, but there's a whole world out there.

I'm hoping that you're right about Renato's connections, Lila. And that the fact that he's just calm and doesn't throw his weight around is the indication that he really does have a lot more power than Sev might be bargaining for.

She probably did but he was able to manage her with the wise leverage of carnal resources. Well, we knew what happened to that dynamic. What was once a more than tolerable expression of her personality became oppressive after she started wielding it as a weapon. He gambled and lost and she honed her control freakiness to a shrilling art form. So hear she is, unloved and unlaid and driving poor Cris crazy!

Yes, there probably was a lot of "Si, mi amor, whatever you say mi amor, come here, mi amor" and she forgot whatever it was she wanted him to do in the first place.

Um. Didn't Sev have some pretty high up connections in the DF too? Remember that police person who got the address of the bar based on the phone number Sev provided?

The head of the police academy. Though, he did have to lie to him about why he wanted the number, so I think maybe the guy does have some scruples. Getting an address from a number is one thing, but going after Renato and/or his family...Sev might need to do an entire tap dance to justify that.

It seems as though everything was fine between Candy and Sev until she found out about Rob. Sev certainly knew it would not go well if Candy found out about the affair because he did not hesitate killing the old padre to keep that secret. Something definitely snapped in Candy when she found out about Rob. Sev accepted her terms , and Candy has been trying to manage the universe ever since. Sev in the meantime has been keeping a low profile and going out of town for his trysts. Hell hath no fury like Candy scorned. So...what is going to happen now that Hum seems to be tired of being Sev's dog and the mistress has just rolled into town?
Also, why do I think that hiring Lard to do his dirty work is going to backfire.

Somehow Renato's dad and Sev will cross paths and I hope the power differential favors Renato's dad.

And what has Renato's mom's illness have to do with anything?

Yeah, this show keeps us guessing. Love it!

I fully expect Abe to get caught and try to roll on Sev, but of course, who's going to believe that that fine upstanding citizen Don Severiano would have hired someone to break into the doctor's office? Nah, he was probably looking for drugs. And Sev will just shake his head sadly and say he tried to help the kid, darn it, isn't it a shame.

I did not have anything special planned for this weekend, but it appears someone has fired up the grill and I believe there might be deviled eggs as well.

Lila, didn't Renato's dad tell Roberta, and by extension Aldonza, that his relationship with his wife was on the rocks? Didn't look that way to me!

You know the Alcocer name has been so dragged in the mud, this has surely not always been so. As you all have said, the Alcocer boys were the best catch in town. After Cande lost Jeronimo to the Lord she probably thought she could surely get Raimundo. When Roberta got him the seed of hate was sown. When she found out Roberta not only was screwing him but had the nerve to expect him to leave her because Roberta was pregnant, well, I can understand that fury!

So. Cande lost an Alcocer man twice and then had her marriage invaded by the woman who STILL had the second Alcoer son. I get it. Cande has committed to this farce as the happy wife of the wise and powerful Sev for life and part of that life's calling is to make sure her son does not touch an Alcocer woman.

If Cris wants Aldonza, he's gonna have to grow a spine AND some balls!

Lila, didn't Renato's dad tell Roberta, and by extension Aldonza, that his relationship with his wife was on the rocks?

If he did, it was the old, "my wife doesn't understand me" panty dissolver but he was paying for it so I don't know why he needed a line.

No. They don't seem to be on the rocks. Being a liar and a cheater might be why some folk could see adding murderer to his profile!

Oh gosh, Diva, that makes me hungry!

yeah, what does Renato's mother's illness have to do with the storyline? She and Renato seem to have a close, loving relationship, and we know how upset Ren was when he found out that his dad was cheating on her. I wish that his dad was a powerful lawyer. I remember how thrilled I was when Hector showed up on the scene in LM with his law firm, power, and wealth to kick Estebad's a$$. AL needs some powerful people behind her. Chris doesn't have a job. I do not know what he majored in when he studied in Spain. He does not seem to have any friends powerful or otherwise. Ten SAW Sev attack AL, but Chris does not have a clue about his dad's vendetta against AL. At this point, Chris is clueless and powerless and completely dependent on mom and dad.
Time to identify beer.

All he's got going is that wild, intoxicating elixir that drives Alcoer women wiiiiild!

Ten = REN

I'm with Susanlynn - things looked fine to me with Sev and Cande, until she found out about Rob. They liked each other, they liked their social standing, they were intimate. Cande's definitely keeping us guessing on the Rob front though. At first I thought it was only about Sev. Then she said she was fine with Ray until he married Rob. -why? Was Sec stealing not so subtle glances at Rob from jump street, so it really is about Sev's attraction to her? Did Cande want Jero, but Jero wanted Rob, but Rob wanted Ray so Jero chose God and Cande got no one? If Rob chose Ray for El Sant, why didn't Jero have it, as the oldest? Was he like Cris and just chose to pursue something else? So many questions you guys!

Susanlynn, somehow I just made it right in my mind when I read Ten!

:)

I could see Uriel turning against Sev when he finds out that instead of helping his lazy, spoiled, good for nothing son Lardo, Sev has turned him into a felon. I don't think that Uriel is the kind of guy you want as an enemy. The banker in a small town has a lot of power.

See my theory at 11:03 Hella. Roberta fruitfully boinking her husband was the last straw!

I think if he'd had any other mistress maybe she would've looked the other way and understood as many of the "upper crust" novela wives do but Roberta? That was the limit!

I'm ok with Ren not being ultra powerful. It wouldn't make that much sense to me since he's very young and just starting his career too. Then again, you guys have a point: as a lawyer, maybe he's got connections to powerful people (mentor judge, CEO of company he's worked with, etc.) And maybe his dad's a hotshot doctor not just a regular doctor and has connections that way. But I would find it very satisfying, if Sev got taken down by "those meddling kids!" so to speak, just because they played things smart and did their homework.

So, since I'm at the Cris table I will point out that he said he has a job lined up in DF. He's only at home until the job starts and to get married. And Cris also lives with his parents, as do most rich kids in TNs, and he technically is working, it's just on the family ranch.

What's on the grill and where are those deviled eggs?

:D

I was wrong...actual mashed potatoes, not deviled eggs. Though, the weekend's not over. And grilled steak, mid-rare :D

Yum! Can't believe I'm still up and not writing a recap! Might have to turn in soon though. Weekends were made for the Caray patio!

:D

Lila - my bad! I missed that.

I still think the original thoughts about Ren's mom are on point: she's going die and Ren will be away just long enough to cause havoc like some legal thing goes awry for Aldonza and/or Al and Cris get close just before Ren returns needing extra affection cuz his mom just died and Cris prob flies off the handle because of it. Plus Ren's dad will come to SL and give Sev or Joaquin a run for their money. Hay, maybe Ren's dad will end up with Flavia! Or Pru!

Hellashelle..wow..just wow.

Rob always seemed ticked at Ray. Yeah..Why?
She was crazzyyy about surly Sev to the point of neglecting her hub and baby to run around with him. Yeah..why ? Did Rob want Sev back in the day, but settled for Ray? Ahh..why? Did Sev marry Candy for her land, name, and money ? I hope that we will find out the back story to these folks. Who was in that photo that Chris saw ? Was it just Candy, Ray, and Jer, or was there another person ? Does Addie know the back story for everyone? We know that she was in love with Ray, but Rob married him. It is a very tangled web.

Typo - I meant "Hey"

Also, speaking of Flavia -Girl, you need to rethink your strategy. I know you don’t like it, and you’re right, there’s something there between Adelina and Joaquin, but the man offered you a chance to know your enemy and you threw it away. What’s more, if you were her friend, she would have a much harder time betraying you. But whatever, do you.

Lila, Did we ever establish whether Renato's dad was a client vs. just a boyfriend? I know his excuse to Renato was "it doesn't mean anything."

Susanlynn, "Time to identify beer" lol...by sight or taste? :D

hellashelle and susanlynn, there are a hell of a lot of questions...and how refreshing that we probably will get them all answered by the end!

hellashelle, Cris' degree is a business degree, which Sev was hoping he'd apply on the ranch. Horses/ranching definitely seem to be Cris' area of interest, so now I'm curious what the job is that he has lined up in the city.

Susanlynn - Lol, sorry that was a lot of back and forth, wasn't it?

I read Rob as more she met Ray, he was nice and loved her and had land and a little money so she married him and moved to SL. Then she found out that even with his land and some money, they were only medium fish in the pond. Or when she met all the guys, Sev's family had no money, so she didn't pay him any mind. Then he married Cande, and suddenly the situation was flipped. In any case, Ray didn't have the power she was looking for and/or maybe he didn't use his power to the fullest extent that she wanted. He wasn't a mover or shaker, like Sev. And because she was addicted to flirting, she didn't exactly win the hearts of the gossip mongering females in town either.

Definitely we're getting a lot more Sombra than we are Pasado. There are so many questions, they probably could have started the show a whole generation back and had plenty of material! We'll have to settle for flashbacks.

Will a hole be found in the rental contract? Probably but why
after Renato looked it over? Because it's too early for things to go smoothly and novelas need drama, lots of drama.

Does Renato have uptown contacts/help? Probably yes but if you get dragged into an alley and beat up, what good will contacts do?

Sever wants that land and if the rental agreement is found to be unlawful or something else---and
if Humberto? doesn't sign the land over to him/Sever, what will Sever do to Him? He is already hurting for money.

Will Sever's lover hang around and cause trouble for him? Will she be added to the dead pool? She is in the intro.

If Chris backs out of marriage to Val, well she have someone impregnate her and claim that it's Chris'?

A lot could be happening and soon.

If E-man gets fired over the Lola
thing, it was asked if he could work for Aldonza? Aldonza doesn't have horses, or any income coming in. Can she hire people at this point?

Where is Vivi? She should be here.
the gringo

Isn't Vivi out of town, or something? I thought someone said she was travelling.

Does the rental contract even include the land?

Simonet absolutely must hang around. I'm in the betting pool with money on her being Lola's mom.

I don't want a hole in the rental agreement. I want to believe Renato is thorough as can be (...in bed. Yeah, I'm playing the fortune cookie game with all things Ren tonight ;) ). On the other hand, didn't Aldonza sign that contract before she gave it to Ren for review?

If someone drags Ren into an alley, I want Ald to come out of the sombras with another hatchet and tell them to back the f*** up.

I think Renato's dad was a repeat customer of Roberta. Does that qualify him as a friend? He did show some professional decency in the way he handled her appearance at his clinic. Somebody said maybe he will show up in SL as the new(ly) single doctor, but only after Humberto is out of action.

Other random thoughts:
Uriel is a cutie.
I don't trust the wholesomeness of that 20-year old candy cottage, or anyone who would bite into it.
Aldonza needs a doberman (*and I don't mean Renato).

J in Oregon

Wow, you guys were busy last night, lol.

I'm not holding out hope that the past will be explained very thoroughly to us, sometimes the writers think we already can guess what it is by what they have leaked out so far, or that we will make assumptions about the past and be happy with them.

"...sometimes the writers think we already can guess what it is by what they have leaked out so far, or that we will make assumptions about the past and be happy with them."

I'm one of those viewers that needs it explained "con manzanas" pero con un lujo de detalles. ;-)

Me too, Sara. And with this one, the past is so important for what is happening today. Let's hope this show is different.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed. So far I have been very pleased with the story telling.

I can't imagine they are going to drop all these hints and name the thing La Sombra del PASADO without eventually getting around to the PASADO.
