Caray, Caray!

Sev continues his intimidation of Adelina, adding that when he goes down, there are a lot of people going down with him.  Like her.  She was Roberta's "accomplice" in some of what happened--like the murder of Raymundo.  Uh, legally?  No.  Though in the court of public opinion…hell, she's already been tried, convicted, and sentenced, so the only threat there is Aldonza finding out she hid the truth.  Anyway, Adelina finally picks up the groceries and leaves, with smarmy Sev watching her walk away and looking like he's enjoying the view.  Sicko!

Tomas and Abelardo discuss Pru.  Tomas does think Pru is a hottie (well, at least he has good taste), but he's also building up his gigolo clientele.  He counsels Lardo that providing *ahem* mechanical services to women with money is always going to be more profitable than working.



Aldonza and Renato catch up by phone.  He's doing a little better, but his dad is just a wreck.  Aldonza tells him they had to move in early because Sev was trying to have a front-woman rent the house out from under her, but Humberto warned her.  Renato doesn't think it's a good idea to trust Hum completely, even though he did do the right thing this once.  Renato says now that she's moved in, there's no legal way to get her out of the house.  Soon they'll be ready to make their next move, but Aldonza tells him there's no rush.  Ren tells her life goes on and she'd better get ready and not let them do anything to scare her off.  He really misses her.  "I also got used to having you around."  Before they can discuss it further, she hears Adelina coming in and ends the call.  Renato looks tired.  And teary.

Adelina tells Aldonza about her encounter with Sev and his threat to hurt Aldonza again if they don't leave.  Aldonza thinks this is a sign that Sev is running scared.  "He's not scared of anything!"  Aldonza says he's scared of having his reputation ruined and of Cristobal finding out what a piece of shit he has for a father.  Adelina thinks there's no point saying anything, because the law is going to be on his side, it's been too long, and everyone is going to believe him.  Aldonza says she has other info, too--he's having an affair.  Image is everything to the Mendozas, and he knows that Aldonza is privy to a lot of dark secrets.  If he's threatening, it's because he's scared, and she's going to keep reminding Adelina of that as many times as she has to.  This time, he won't "amedrantar" (intimidate).  Adelina scoffs that Adelina knows what she's doing.  "So, now can you tell me what the doctor said?"  Adelina repeats what she told Renato.  And Adelina repeats what Renato said about being careful.  Adelina won't be able to sleep, thinking about what Sev might do. Aldonza tells her they have a watchman now, who came recommended by Melesio.

Dominga comes to ask Cande what she wants for dinner.  Cande scolds her for not resting and then tells her to make whatever she wants to.  Dominga suggests what sounds to me like "pambacitos" which could be referring to "pambazos" which are a kind of sandwich named for the roll they're served on…it's street food, so that's a little surprising, but then Cande has never seemed particularly snooty about food.  Dominga asks about "Simoneta," but as far as Cande knows, she and Sev are still negotiating the price on some horses.  Dominga plays off her curiosity and says she's just making conversation, that lately Cande's been something unintelligible about being in a foul mood "geniuda" (as in having "mal genio").  Cande says it's because she's waiting for God to perform a miracle and get Aldonza Alcocer out of her son's life.  *drink*

Aldonza introduces Adelina to Don Camilo, their new security guard.  He assures them nobody is going to shoot the place up again.  He promised it to Melesio, who is like his brother.  Just give him a shout if they need anything.  Lola shows up and she and Aldonza head inside.  Adelina tells Don C she's glad to have him around.  Lots of people don't like them in this town.  But, he reminds her, some people do value them, like Don Melesio.

Lola asks Aldonza if she was right to ask for the candy house back.  Aldonza is of the opinion that a gift is a gift and you don't ask for it back.  She laughs at Lola for saying it was really an excuse to see Emmanuel.  "Why not give him another chance, then?!"  Lola won't since now he's trying to tell her the candy house up and walked away. He's hiding something and she doesn't know what it is!  Aldonza wonders if maybe Em ate the house already and is too embarrassed to tell her.  Nah, Lola thinks he gave it to Mari.  If he did, she'll NEVER forgive him.

Em visits Valeria to ask her about the candy house.  He gets an eyeful of her moisturizing her legs.  She asks him to sit and chat.  Riiiiight, because they've always been so close.  Don't shut the door!  Dumbass.  She suggests they just chat about themselves.  She remembers him taking responsibility for a broken pitcher when they were kids.  He remembers he got grounded for three weeks.  Val says he's always been very loyal to his friends…like Aldonza.  "You must know all of her secrets."  Em says he knows nothing.  Valeria starts fondling his face and telling him she could reward him for any information....  Emmanuel extricates himself FAR more easily than Cris did (just saying) and tells her that even if he did know something, he wouldn't betray her confidence.  Val kicks him out and warns him that if he says anything "no te la vas a acabar conmigo!" (you won't get away with it; you won't ever be done with me and not in a good way).

Aldonza tells Lola, before she leaves, not to keep making up stories in her head.  Go home and relax already.  Lola is glad to have Aldonza home so they can chat all the time.  Aldonza tells Lola to give Emmanuel some time and run home already.  Yikes, I'm a little worried about her walking home alone.

Humberto is carefully crafting a most excellent sammich when Emmanuel comes into the dining area.  Em tells him that Pru was locked in her room all day.  Humberto tells him that's every day for Pru.  He asks about the candy house and why it's a big deal.  Em explains that Lola wants him to return it and if he doesn't, he's a dead man.  But he sooooo misses her!  He misses her company, her kisses.  He closes his eyes and thinks of her.  Humberto says he's in love and they'll have to tear up the house and find…uh…the house.

Melesio finds Lola sitting out by the water feature crying again.  She doesn't know how to get Emmanuel out of her heart.  Melesio says people who give themselves over to love get hurt the most.  But that means she has a good soul.  And it's going to take a long time to forget him.  And her pain will make her stronger and wiser for the next time.  Lola says she doesn't know what her life would be like with out him and Dominga, her real parents.  Dun, dun, dun.  Lola kisses and hugs Mel while he looks worried.

Humberto encourages Emmanuel to find some way to talk to Lola and tell her what he feels.  Em finally comes up with the idea that Aldonza can help him.  Have sammich, will travel.  Right to Aldonza's door, right now, because tomorrow he has too much work to do.

Cristobal has also headed over to see Aldonza.  Adelina doesn't want to let him in, for obvious reasons.  She tells him the relationship started badly and it's not going anywhere.  He wonders QTH it is that happened between Roberta and his parents.  He finally gives up…but just for tonight.  He won't really give up until he and Aldonza are together.  Adelina shuts the door and runs up to Aldonza's room, where Aldonza is…not.

Sev is reviewing paperwork and having a nice relaxing glass of wine at the end of a day of nefarious deeds.  Candela stalks in, wondering where Cristobal is and hoping he's not out looking for Aldonza Alcocer.  *drink*  But no, he's not, and we know it several seconds before the lady in question announces her presence.  "As you can see, Cristobal isn't with me."  Aldonza mocks their lousy security.  "I've just shown you that I can also come over whenever I want to."  Sev warns her to be careful.  "How ironic.  To be careful I'd have to stay in your house for my own safety.  I don't think you'd dare show your true colors in front of your wife…or am I wrong?"  Sev lunges at her and she laughs.  "You want to know what I'm trying to show?  That I'm not afraid of you.  I can come into your territory whenever I want, like you do to mine.  And also to show you that I have weapons to rip you to pieces whenever it suits me."  Cande tells her to go if she's through with her threats.  But Aldonza's not done.  "I want you and your husband to know that I'm not going to leave Santa Lucia and no one will ever get me out of my house again.  That decision rests solely with me, so stop bothering my family.  Got it?  That's all now."  Before she can leave, she runs into Cristobal.  All she'll say is she was attending to an important matter, but she's done now.  He asks his parents what happened and since they won't answer, he goes running after Aldonza.  Candela shoots Sev a dirty look.

Aldonza finally stops and turns around to tell Cris that his parents are trying to get her to leave town, so she told them that she's not leaving, no matter what they do.  Cris doesn't understand what is going on…did something happen that he doesn't know about?  Aldonza says she's reached her limit.  She's tired of his parents circling around her house and tired of their threats.  He says his dad swore it wasn't him who shot up the house.  "Oh, please!  You think they're going to tell you?  You're his son!  And that's the least of it."  Cris wants to know the rest so he can do something.  "I don't want you to do anything!  What needed to be done, I already did.  I talked to your dad face to face."  She begs him to recognize that all her problems are due to him.  He begs her not to tell him, like everyone else is, that he's ruining her life, because he's trying to do the opposite.  He loves her with all his heart and he knows she's feeling the same.  Aldonza doesn't let him kiss her this time.  "I can't feel the same. You're the son of the man I hate most in the world."

Candela wants to know what Aldonza was talking about, but Sev says he doesn't know.  Candela is now starting to be suspicious about all the things Sev hasn't wanted to tell her.  Sev says she got what she wanted--making Candela doubt him.  "I've always doubted you."  Cris comes back inside and says Aldonza didn't tell him anything and he's going up to bed.  Yes, Candela, shriek after him, that will help.  Candela says she HAS to know what Aldonza said to Cris.  Sev says he's more interested in how she got into the house.

Aldonza comes home to find Emmanuel and Don Camilo outside sharing a laugh.  Don Camilo wasn't sure if he should let Emmanuel in.  Em thanks him for doing his job.  Don Camilo goes inside and Em tells Aldonza that he needs help with Lola.  He wants to patch things up…"Well, start by giving back the candy house."  Emmanuel explains that it got stolen.  No, really.  For real.   He doesn't want to tell Lola or she'll hate him.  Em thinks he knows who took it, but he's going to have to steal it back.

Lola goes to Mari's to ask if Em gave her the house.  She tells the truth, adding that she hasn't seen him lately, though she won't swear to it.  Lola angrily declares that they're not enemies and she doesn't even have any hard feelings.  Mari snottily agrees they're good friends and when Emmanuel comes looking for her, she'll fight with him.  "Whatever.  You can have him.  The two-face."  *sigh*

Dominga is worried about telling Lola the truth about her mother.  Melesio dries dishes and says they should just avoid the topic.  They need to think about what to tell her and ask God to illuminate them and show them the right thing to do.  Uh…'cause having a priest tell you that honesty is the best policy wasn't enough godly illumination?  He asks about Dominga's visit to Flavia and Candela listens in as Dominga says Flavia is convinced that Joaquin and Adelina have a thing going on.  "But Adelina is a pan de dios!" ("bread of God" literally; i.e., she's good people).  Dominga busts Cande listening in, so Cande enters the kitchen and asks if Lola let Aldonza into the house.  Not as far as Dominga knows--Lola isn't even home yet.  Candela thanks them for the info and leaves, but shakes her head as if she doesn't believe a word.  Dominga tells Mel it sounds like something went down and Candela is looking for someone to blame.

Emmanuel and Joaquin hang out at the cantina.  Em is surprised to see him there.  Joaquin says his problem is named "Flavia" and ain't nothing to be done about it.  They toast to that with shots of tequila as Em giggles.  Joaquin says she keeps being jealous of Adelina and it's making him sick.  Emmanuel, with all the wisdom of youth, says chicks are like that…they just wake up with twisted ideas and nobody can talk them out of them.  Emmanuel suggests they get really drunk "hasta las chanclas" (down to their sandals) but Joaquin scoffs.  No, they're going to take it easy.  Because this ain't the kind of show where bros get drunk to solve their problems.  Yay!

Up in Cande's suite, Sev comes in…sure, yeah, uh, dinner, that's what he came to talk about…no, not Dominga's dinner…uh, he came to ask Cande out to dinner.  Like, outside the house.  I swear, Cande and I just gave him the exact same look.  "Do you wanna?  We've been too tense lately and we need a little distraction.  Conversation.  About our problems.  Without arguing and fighting.  We won't get anywhere that way.  We haven't gotten anywhere.  I know I've made mistakes--I don't deny that.  We both care about Cristobal, our son.  Please, let's call a truce.  For tonight."  Cande agrees and asks for a moment to get ready.  Sev is relieved and says he'll wait for her downstairs.  Well…that was…odd….

Aldonza came home, but Adelina didn't know.  She tells Adelina she went to Las Animas to talk to "los dueños" (the owners).  They get into a shouting match.  Adelina wonders if Aldonza is trying to get herself hurt again…or killed!  Adelina says she'll kill him first before he dares touch her again.  She knows how to defend herself and he might as well know it.  Adelina says she's naïve.  Sev's an animal and he's going to attack her if he feels threatened--and Aldonza is cornering him.  She needs to come down to earth and realize that Sev isn't going to take any mercy on her and he'll be the death of her like he was to her mother.

Mopey Cristobal is mopey.  He thinks of Aldonza saying he's the son of the man she hates most in the world.  Speaking of the devil, Sev comes by for a chat.  Not about Aldonza.  He wants a truce.  It's not ok for people who love each other to fight like this.  He wants to encourage Cris to do what he can so they can be ok.  But now he's going out to dinner with Cande.  And tomorrow he wants them to talk about giving Cris a proper salary, even though Cris doesn't think it's necessary.

Val tells Lardo not to worry about what Cande heard.  She's got an idea and she wants to meet in their "usual spot" to discuss it.  Aw, geez, we're not going to have to watch automotive acrobatics again, are we?  As she's ending the call, Pru walks in, so she pretends to be talking to Mari.  Pru just came in to say goodnight…and share her idea for getting Cris back.  Date Abelardo and make him jealous!  She leaves Val to think about it.

Sev tells Candela, over wine, that he talked to Cris and offered him a salary.  She thinks that sounds fair.  Sev said it will serve as a reminder that without them, he's nothing.  Cris is turning it down for now, but Sev will get him to agree.  He wants to be Cande's ally and stop having separate nefarious plans.  He wants them to do couples plotting from now on.  Candela isn't sure she believes in his new attitude.  Sev says he wants to listen and support her and know what's going on in her head.  "OK.  I have ideas."  She tells him about Flavia's jealousy of Adelina.  Sev says Adelina couldn't steal the husband from a cow.  They laugh.  I want to kick 'em both right in the shins.  Nobody respects Adelina!  Cande thinks they can feed the gossip and the town will pressure Aldonza and Adelina to leave.  Sev takes Cande's hand and she asks if he's trying to seduce her.  As Simoneta watches in the background, having just arrived at the restaurant, Sev says Cande can't blame him--she's the most beautiful woman in town.  Well, sure, now that Roberta's dead--just saying.  Sev says he's doing everything to get her back.

Pru fantasizes about Tomas coming into her bedroom to, uh, warm her up.  She tells him to go away and not make her sin…as Humberto watches her flailing her arms around in the air.  When she wakes up and realizes he was watching, she goes to take another bath, saying there's been a lot of "bochorno" today (it was scorching).  She doesn't appreciate Hum asking if it might be menopause.

Sev and Candela come home and we finally get a glimpse of what Candela was really wearing to dinner.  Her short red dress was nearly Roberta-worthy, except for the skirt not being flirty.  Good thing, too, 'cause that dress is really short.  The amount of leg she's showing as she sits on the couch is…well, I feel indecent noticing.  Sev invites her to have another glass of wine with him…in the dining room…in the dark.  (Where he can imagine she's some other woman in a red dress?  Just saying!)  Candela pours the wine and they toast…but does she succumb to Sev's dastardly charms?  Tune in tomorrow to find out!
