La Sombra del Pasado #89 Friday, 6-19-15 "We Are Family. . .I Got All My Siblings with Me. . ." but nobody's happy!

Hello, my friends of the Sombra Patio!  Time for another Friday on the Patio, get a refill of your favorite beverage from the Naughty Melon (you may need it), get your darts sharpened and ready, let’s see what up in the Santa Lucia Zoo!  Some scenes have been combined (hope it flows all right) and as usual, feel free to correct and expand in the comments, especially the horsey stuff!

Sev and Hum continue their conversation/confrontation over those coveted lands.  Hum reminds Sev that he gave his word and promised the lands as a condition of Hum’s performing the delicate, life-saving arterial repair on Cristobal’s leg.  Sev dismisses this as meaningless as he said it under great stress and desperation.  Sev maintains that what should govern Hum’s behavior as a Dr. is the oath HE took to take care of patients without condition.  Yes, Hum is a Dr., but he’s also a common man, with interests and ambitions as Sev so aptly taught him!  Sev abandons the appeal to professional ethics for something he’s more comfortable with:  threats!  “Don’t play with me, you know what I’m capable of! Sev sneers.  Hum stands his ground and declares that it’s time he put on his big boy pants!  He’s tired of being accomplice to the shady and dastardly crap Sev has done and it’s time to defend himself and what’s his!  Sev warns Hum for the last time, ES is not his and he’ll kill him first before he lets him take it!  Hum doubts that killing him would be convenient for Sev:  he’d lose everything, including his freedom as he doesn’t think his death would go unpunished like that of Padre Sixto and who knows how many others!  Sev counters that he’s always done whatever the hell he wanted for years and he’s always gotten what he wants. Hum shouts at Sev:  “I’m tired of living under your shadow, do what you please, I’ll do what I please.  I’m not afraid of you!”   Sev growls for Hum to get out, pushing him several times!

Well, gremlins must be in the air as another conversation goes south.  Cris asks Aldonza over the phone if she and Renato kissed. Aldonza asks where he got this bit of information.  Cris doesn’t think it matters.  Aldonza says that they didn’t exactly kiss.  HE kissed her, she didn’t let him and it meant nothing.   Cande has trained Cris well as he reacts to Aldonza’s explanation of this unseen kiss just the way Cande framed it; that while he was fighting for his life, she was busy kissing Renato!  She thinks he’s got a lot of nerve after he willingly slept with Val to be chewing her out about a kiss that Renato initiated and she didn’t return!   Cris asks accusingly if she also slept with Renato!  Hmm, comes close to slut-labeling, a sin Cris had not been guilty of heretofore!   Pissivity ensues and Aldonza hangs up on him!

Her eyes red-rimmed and hair tousled, a pajammied Lola whines to Camilo, that Eman is gone for good.  Don Camilo thinks he will return.  Lola says it doesn’t matter and takes her tale of woe to a hopefully less optimistic audience.  She now whines to Adelina and Aldonza.  She answers that she didn’t talk to him (because that would never occur to her one over-heated brain cell) but shows them Eman’s letter.  Aldonza recalls what a bad way Eman was in the day before and knew he would “do something crazy.”  Lola cries that she knows it is for the best but it doesn’t stop her from feeling really bad.

At this very moment Melesio and Dominga are also discussing the E-man.  There was a finality to his goodbye and Mel is very worried by how Eman looked more than what he said.  Aye, Dominga says that is not uncommon for Eman to say one thing with his face and another with his words!

Back at Lola’s pity pajama party, Adelina states somberly that “those who need to stay, leave, and those who need to stay away, return.”  Aldonza wonders what’s up.  Adelina tells them about Flavia’s return.   Jock tells her Flavia’s return meant nothing but she’s not so sure:  Flavia is still his wife and the mother of his son.  She is not going to be an obstacle for Flavia to reclaim her son and husband.  Ray wants to be with both his parents and he has that right.  The whole relationship is all too complicated, Adelina states sadly as she goes upstairs to bed.

The star-crossed lovers cry, Eman at a camp fire, Lola in her bed.  My heart aches only for Eman.

Pru and Tomas lie naked and sated in one another’s arms in Pru’s marriage bed.

Let’s catch up with the action at Las Animas.  Hum has just stormed out of Sev’s study and finds his vile daughter and contemptible cousin, Cande, eating dinner al fresco.  Hum demands Val come with him right away and drags her from the table amidst shocked protests, yelling at Cande that her husband is a shameless bastard!  Candy marches into the house to talk to Sev.  (You see Lola, even the baddies talk and try to understand each other’s twisted plans, even though they do it in shouts and screeches.  Communication!)  Sev tells his side.  Cande thinks Hum is right about the promise he made when he convinced Hum to do the surgery on Cris.  Cande screeches that Sev is once again provoking a conflict at the worst moment as it will jeopardize Cris and Val’s relationship.  This makes Sev, and probably some of us, explode!  What relationship!  There IS no relationship between Val and Cris!  Anyway, Hum provoked it by trying to keep what is his!  Cande’s way past tired of the land.  She admits it was her idea but it was a long time ago and she rues the day she ever wished for it!  If he loves his son so much, he needs to think of giving up his claim to ES.  No!  The lands will be his whoever likes it or not!  Muwah ha ha ha ha ha!!!

The cur-sed lands provoke and argument between that beloved father-daughter pair, Val and Hum.  Yah.  Right.  Hum argues that Val could not stay in that house after what Sev said to him!  Val thinks he deserves it.  ES has done nothing but cause problems for everyone.  She basically takes Sev side and thinks her dad ought to be content with whatever crap Sev flings at him because everything he has, he owes to Sev without whom he’d be mediocre and a total failure!  Hum delivers a long awaited and deeply satisfying back hand slap across the vile one’s face!  PIE-YOW!!  When we catch up with them again they have arrived home where Val runs upstairs to Pru’s bedroom to tell mommy he slapped her!  Hum is right behind her, stops her from going in the room and they argue loudly right outside Pru’s door.  The illicit lovers hardly stir.  Val says once Pru finds out, she not only will put him out, she won’t share his bed, either!  (Well, Val, she IS kinda sharing his bed!)  Val tries to get into Pru’s room again, he drags her out.  Hum demands she go to her room and she declares “this will not end like this!”  Val flops on the bed in her room, crying.   Hum listens at the door of Pru’s room for a moment and then goes to his own bedroom.  Phew!  What a night.

To the entire patio’s great relief we see that Eman has entered a horse competition!  These are the qualifying rounds and first up is a pretty girl on a black horse, Carla Quijano puts her horse, “Jaro” through the paces.  Emanuel Zapata, Eman, is next with Solitario.  The horses do some pretty prancing in place as the rider, I suppose, orchestrates the horse’s “dance” with commands via vocalizations and movements of his/her knees, spurs and the reins?  I know nada about horsey riding but it sure is pretty.  Eman catches the notice of a distinguished older gentleman who remarks on how well Eman rides.  Later the gentleman watches as Eman congratulates Solitario with nuzzles and rubs.  The competition continues to the second round and by the way each and every rider is named, they must be “real” competitors, Jinetes Profesionales.  Six or seven of these riders and their horses are named as making the cut and when Eman is finally named, the crowd breaks out in cheers and applause.   Clearly the tn production has crashed a real event – cute!  The distinguished gentleman approaches Eman to congratulate him and admire his expert horsemanship:  You’re like a Centaur!  He hasn’t seen Eman at these competitions before and is surprised that he is a novice.  Eman tries to dismiss it as luck which the gentleman, Don Antonio, brushes away.  There is no luck in this business:  Everyone else has vast experience and Eman compared favorably against them!

It’s a new day in Santa Lucia.  Uriel is quiet and pensive at the breakfast table while Mari contentedly stuffs her face.  Irma asks what he’s thinking about.  He’s thinking of Eman.  He came to the bank.  Uriel was also at first indignant as Irma is.  Eman said something that was unsettling.  Mari picks up the vibe.  Eman gave him back Mari’s check, her entire savings; he gave it back and didn’t cash it or touch a cent.  Uriel looks pointedly at Mari as he says this and then asks her, “Are you really at peace with the story you told us?”   Oh, the poor thing is so hurt she flounces away from the table and falls on the bed in tears!  Daddy thinks she would make up such a thing!  Uriel is swiftly put on the defensive as Mari plays the guilt card and Irma supports her.  Mari pouts that she wants to be alone!

Let’s go from one lying, self-centered wench to the next!  Val barges in to Pru’s bedroom to tell her about daddy going upside her head and gets an eyeful:  Pru and Tomas in bed!  Downstairs Hum has finished breakfast and starts to go up to see Pru and changes his mind, asking the maid to have her contact him at his office.  He leaves.   Val checks that the coast is clear and puts Tomas out.  He tries to get a last kiss from Pru.  Val confronts Pru who tearfully blames the affair on Hum.  Val looks like she’s buying it.  Pru cries that she has to feel loved, desired and important!   Why didn’t she talk to Hum?  He only cares about his patients!  Val seems strangely not weirded out as Pru carries on about how Tomas made her feel things she thought were dead: love, desire and passion.  Thanks to him she feels alive. Well, Pru’s not going to enjoy feeling alive for long because when her Papa finds out, he’s going to kill her!  Pru ironically pleads that Val not be the one to throw the first stone at her!  Val is unmoved but on one hand understands that Hum has not been treating either of them well, especially lately, but falling for a lowly mechanic!  “Yes he’s a mechanic but he has the heart of a prince!”  Val’s had it with them both and is very disillusioned:  First my dad hits me and now this!  Pru points out that Val is not a model of virtue and Val exposes Pru’s hypocrisy at calling so many other women sluts.  Pru begs her not to tell.  Val will keep her secret but only as long as it’s convenient.  They each have dirt on each other.  Val announces that Pru makes her sick and strides out!

Cris looks at his laptop and DNA results and calls Aldonza, still at breakfast with Lola and Adelina.   She relays what Cris said: The results are in.  We are siblings.   Over at Las Animas, Cris lies in bed, stricken.  The lying and cynical Sev and Cande come in to ask what’s wrong.  Cris tells them and Cande tries to touch him.  Cris recoils from her touch and yells at her to get out!  He wants to be alone!  Adelina and Lola go to Aldonza, offering real support.  Aldonza doesn’t want to talk either.

Later, Aldonza is still in bed.  Adelina comes to her again and asks what she is going to do.  Nothing, maybe die of pain.  Adelina counsels that though it’s a hard blow she has to not give in or collapse; she has a strong spirit.  Aldonza says she will get up but will never live or feel the same.  She sits up.  “Please understand, my dream of making a life with Cris gave my life meaning, now I have no reason to live.”  Adelina protests that that’s not true.  Aldonza insists, “Without Cris, the only thing I want to do is die.”

Cande and Sev regroup after being thrown out of Cris’s room.  Sev asks why the long face when she’s finally gotten what she wanted!  Oh, it parts Cande’s soul to see Cris suffer so!  It’s a hard blow and it’s going to take a lot to recover.  Sev plots aloud that Val can step in and take advantage of Cris’s shock and hurt.  Yes, Cande will be in charge of that but they have to know what Cris’s plans are.  Sev is glad they’re on the same page.  Cande suggests Sev approach Cris in a very subtle way so he doesn’t run.  Sev slithers into his room mouthing false assurances of love and understand and unconditional support.   What does Cris want to do?  Cris doesn’t want to talk about it and asks Sev to leave.  Sev tells him he’s going to get a new Dr. to examine Cris.  Hum is an opportunist who is trying to deprive him of his lands.  Cris tells Sev if he loves him so much he won’t get a new Dr. and let his Padrino attend him.  Sev finally honors his request to leave and Cris makes a phone call that actually seems to be private!    He asks whoever is on the other end to come over as he can’t leave his bed.

After observing the alarming funk that Aldonza has fallen in, Adelina goes to talk to Padre Jeronimo.  He doesn’t trust the DNA test results; he thinks Cande messed with the test.  They both agree they can’t sit still with their hands crossed.  He cautions patience and goes off to hear a confession.

Cris and Aldonza are the topic of conversation between Pato and Silvia as well as they take breakfast at an open air café.  Like some of us Pato is confused as to why Silvia didn’t tell Cris that Aldonza said the kiss was flat and she told Renato, again, that she loved Cris.  Well, Silvia’s got a new attitude and decided the best thing she could do is let Renato go.  She not only doesn’t want to be an obstacle to Renato and Aldonza getting together, if she can facilitate it happening, she will!

Back to Cris and his mystery guest.  Why, it’s Renato!  Cris gets right to the point.  Renato helped him before when he and Aldonza had their civil marriage ceremony.  Cris remembers that Renato said he wanted Aldonza to be happy.  It seems that the closer he, Cris, is to her, the unhappier she is.  Although it breaks his heart, he wants Renato to return Aldonza to the happiness that his parents took from her.  “Give her the love that I couldn’t.”  I spoke too soon:  Cande is outside the door listening in.

Okay, peeps, haven't eaten yet. Back later to tweak and see what y'all talkin' 'bout. Have at it!

Hey Lila, Thank you--I am just so grateful to have this recap tonight! I was unable to view the episode but reading your recap was just as good. (Okay, kinda sorry I missed seeing Tomas and Pru "busted"....and it would have been nice to see Hum stand up to Sev).

Anyway the fat is in the fire, and looks like this brother-sister storyline is not going to be over with anytime soon. Feels like a long road ahead.
Signing off for now, back later,

J in Oregon

Thanks, J, yah. A long road ahead indeed. Sigh. See y'all in the morning!

Woo hoo! Gracias, Lila! Great recap. I was fond of the horse competition as well. The ladies love Soletario...and I guess Emmanuel as well :D

"Back at the Lola’s pity pajama party" made me laugh. It really did seem that way. All they needed were some snacks.

I don't know what I hate worse, the "if I can't have him, no one can" thing that Val's doing or the "since I can't have her, here, you take her" thing that Cris is doing.

Wow, Lila! Can't believe I got home to already find the recap up. Yay! And a great recap too.

So, Silvia wants Renato and Aldonza to be together. Cris wants Renato and Aldonza to be together. Renato wants Renato and Aldonza to be together. But, uhm, maybe someone should get ALDONZA'S opinion on the matter.

Loved the horses. Loved seeing another cast member from Quiero Amarte pop into the story. The ladies in the audience were totally applauding for the hunk Eman/Alex. I thought Alex looked like he was handling that horse pretty well through the fancy footwork. Didn't look like a stunt double to me.

Good morning, Lila. Well, you got this up quickly, and it was filled with your usual detail and knowing observations. Thank you!

I loved the argument between Sev and Hum. Although, since Hum doesn't really know the depths of Sev's depravity, he may have opened a situation that is much more dangerous than he thinks.

Having said that, it seems to me that Sev's victims are the defenseless. Taking out the town Doc may be more than even he can get away with. And, even if he could, wouldn't Pru simply inherit the property?

I don't know much about DNA testing, but I wonder if there are a variety of levels of specificity. Perhaps this test was just to determine if there was a blood relationship between the two donors? Maybe a more detailed test could have determined the true reality of that relationship?

Glad to see Eman being successful at his new undertakings, and I hope that older guy is an honest man who may mentor him, and not some sleazebag looking to gain some type of advantage.

PJ is still our beacon of reason and hope.

I thought Cris's actions re: Renato were the polar opposite of Val and Mary's:
Cris; I can't be with her, please help her to be happy. Mary and Val; If I can't have him, then neither can anyone else.

FROM YESTERDAY: Hellashelle, I'm glad you enjoyed my little quip. Gringo, my back is better (slowly). Thanks for asking. (I can't always get to a computer through the day, so I am not always able to respond to things the way I would like to.)

Thanks again, Lila. I really enjoyed the fruits of your effort in putting this together for us.

David

Lila, pretty please, read your stories to me before I drift off to sleep

"(because that would never occur to her one over-heated brain cell)"

"Lola’s pity pajama party"

I'm pissed at Cris, not for giving Renato his blessing but for slut shaming his faux sister and was glad she threw Val back in his face. Moot point now.

Emanuel - lacks only confidence

Pru - he may be a mechanic but wonderful with grease, nuts and screws

Adelina - yippee, my secrets are safe, Ray won't be exhumed & Emanuel's run off

Cris - good luck, her mis planes included you, not me, anyway

Lola - no fun if I can't see the damage done

Val - gah ma, ya'll use the car next time

Cande - like taking candy from a baby

PJ - gimme time, my superman cape is at the cleaners

Lila...I was at a concert last night (Jay and the Americans) , so I missed this episode. Thanks So much for letting me see all the section with my mind's eye, Lila.

When Don Antonio said Eman looked like a centaur, am I the only one who immediately had an image of a shirtless Eman astride a horse like I did?

Action...not section..sorry.

Lila- thank you for the marvelous recap! I laughed aloud at

"You see Lola, even the baddies talk and try to understand each other’s twisted plans, even though they do it in shouts and screeches. Communication!"

It's so true. Communication is key!

I was thrilled to see Jose Elias Moreno again. I just love him.

Also got a kick out of the horse dance competition.

Let's see, what else. Oh! I hate Mari. Wench.

I know it's been discussed but I can't remember what the patio collectively concluded: why can't Padre and Aldonza and Cris do a DNA test? Does that not rule out their being siblings?

Quick note- were Pato and Silvia eating breakfast or some sort of ice cream? I saw ice cream. I had ice cream on the brain.

Vivi- I did not get that image, but I will from now on. :-)

Mornin' Diva and thanks! I'm a little slow getting up this morning but I hope we have a rollicking discussion this weekend! I did not see and DID NOT LIKE Cris "giving" Aldonza to Renato. One thing's for sure. Renato was right about hanging around and biding his time because the marriage would fall apart. I know the story ain't over but he read those two pretty well. I think his assessment was not based so much on their flakiness, but he saw what a pair of conniving evil-doers Sev and Cande are!

Vivi! Good morning, thank you and hope this is the first of many more stops by the patio this weekend! Yeah, everybody wants Aldonza and Renato to be together! Aldonza, hie thee to thine Uncle, Jeronimo, for counsel! And yes, Vivi, I alsmost called him Don Mauro (from QA)! SO good to see him! And as for the horsey work, I never thought stunt double. Lawdy! Something especially appealing about a horse-ridin' man! What a fool Lola is. I guess, though, she needs some time to grow up and grieve when the death her mom is finally discovered. Eman's leaving IS for the best!

Good morning and thank you, David! David, they just can't stop at this test. If this is such a Great Love, the two of them need to get to a lab together, assure the chain of custody of samples and get a proper test done. This is so disappointing even if we know it will be exposed as a lie! I'm glad Adelina went to PJ right away because these poor kids aren't thinking straight! It's no wonder with Cris with his smother riding his back, listening in on his conversations and monitoring every breath he takes. She hounded him in the hospital and took him out AMA: I'm surprised HE is not longing for death!

Tofie! Girl, I know it's you before I get to the signature line! Mil gracias, amiga! Oooo, dang, girl, you NAILED Pru's line! and OUCH for Cris's! Cande's is unfortunately so true and should have been my title! You rock!

Wow, my last coment was convoluted. Clearly sleep deprived and unable to not think of myself with Eman since I mentioned myself twice in that sentence. Should have been: Did anyone else picture Eman shirtless astride a horse like I did?

Thank you Susanlynn! Wow, great concert, I'm sure! You are welcome, perhaps I saved you from screaming in disgust but hoped you screamed in delight at the concert instead!

Well, off to feed and water the boys. . .BRB!

I could not stop rolling my eyes when Cande was having a sad about Cris being so distraught. What the hell did she think would happen, and who does she think she's kidding? She doesn't give a damn about Cris' emotional well-being.

thank you Lila. I just love your writing style. I hope you do it for a living, I think you are that good.

I completely don't care about this stupid kiss, yes or no, argument. IT WAS JUST A KISS!! And it was after he supposedly slept with Val. Who cares? And the whole DNA plot is just too stupid too. It lacks any creativity.

I'm also totally sick of Lola's whining and crying. She brought it on herself when she wouldn't listen to Emanuel or trust him. Poor Uriel and Irma. They are wonderful people who happen to produce toxic seeds. They shouldn't have procreated. Ok, I feel better after ranting.

So the ball is in Renato's court. Will he team up with PJ and fix this mess?

No, Vivi. I so wanted to wax rhapsodic and naughty about the centaur comment but I restrained myself. Thanks for mentioning it!

;D

Time is running out. I think Aldonza should have a repeat DNA test before she gives Sev a Father's Day present.

David

I ask again because I need clarification - why can't Padre, Aldonza and Cris not Doba DNA test? Doesn't that rule out any relationship?

Do a not Doba (what the hell is Doba?)

Mornin', Sara! Thanks, girl! I am so steamed at Lola for NEVER hearing Eman out and totally believing Mari, her rival, and best friend to the skankmeister! Lola was smart enough to realize neither Mari nor the late Lardo inherited any of their parent's integrity! Grrrrr!

Yes, the horses were soooo purdy! Hmmm DNA. . .someone swifter than I has to figure out what a PJ/Cris/Donnie DNA test would reveal!

Lord, Sara, I'll have to go to my recording, not sure what they were eating! It seemed to be making Silvia quite happy! HA!

Gracias Lila! You served this recap up beautifully! My fave moment: (You see Lola, even the baddies talk and try to understand each other’s twisted plans, even though they do it in shouts and screeches. Communication!) TRUTH.

Also,Val seems strangely not weirded out as Pru carries on about how Tomas made her feel things she thought were dead: love, desire and passion. Yeah, I was surprised by how calmly she took this conversation. In a good mom/daughter relationship, I would've been pleasantly surprised and this demonstration of/attempt at understanding, but this is Pru and Val, so it was just weird.

Val is still a horror, but I didn't like that Hum slapped her. I don't know exactly why since Val deserves be be slapped. Multiple times. HARD. But somehow, I would rather he just told her she doesn't know the truth about Sev and leave it at that. I feel like the slap she deserves from him should come when the baby story comes out.

I thought that in the convo with Pru, Val said that Hum hasn't treated them well, especially lately?

Well if it was making her happy I vote for ice cream. Ice cream makes me happy.

Seriously, Mari just needs to be punched in the throat. Poor Uriel. There's another voice of reason... Er... That is after he's calmed down and beat up someone.

Hellashelle - I felt the same way about Hum slapping Val. She deserves it, but I don't like the idea of Hum doing it. I want him to continue to try to be a better person and slapping Val is not trying to be a good person.

Well, Val certainly understands needing a man to make her feel desired and adored. That's exactly what she used Lardo and random Spanish guy for, while she was trying to tie down Chris. So she can't really judge Pru.

I think Val was more bothered by her mother's choice of man. A plain old mechanic? Ew.

Cathyx! Why, thank you, honey! You are too kind and thank YOU for your rant! Parts of this episode I wanted to post in all caps and bold myself! The DNA manipulation was too easy, as Tofie stated and Cande's supposed upset over Cris's being distraught was beyond hypocritical as Vivi said and I'm with YOU being waaaay beyond tired of Lola!

You're asking if Renato will team up with PJ to fix the DNA mess? The only way I see that is if he sees that Aldonza is so unhappy that she's suicidal (as her comments seem to indicate) and proves he really loves her by doing what Cris did today. Maybe this act of Cris's and Donnie's funk could move him in this direction!

Time is running out. I think Aldonza should have a repeat DNA test before she gives Sev a Father's Day present. That's great, David! I think she and Cris, like Eman said, are just really tired!

Sara, Doba . . .that's hilarious! The tablet strikes again! I hope somebody answers that question!

Val is one to talk about Pru's choice of booty call. Abelardo?

Here's my reasoning about the DNA (mind you my knowledge of DNA comes from crime shows and a biology class 25 years ago.)

Shouldn't it show Padre and Aldonza are related? Wouldn't that mean that Ray is her dad?

I really feel like I'm missing something.

Hear hear! Cathyx! Abelardo was sleaze. And Spanish guy might have been sleaze, too. I'm sure she's latched on to Cris for respectability.

Y'all please keep chatting. . .lurkers, come out of the shadows! See y'all later, gotta earn some patio time with chores! Thanks in advance to all!

:D

Definitely Sara. We've mentioned this before. But these writers don't think about this in a reasonable way, much less do any research about it. Maybe that's why none of the characters use the internet. The writers don't know how to use it either.

Thank you cathyx. I was pretty sure we had discussed it, but needed to make sure. That's why I felt like I was missing something. It's such an obvious solution. Why after 5 years of watching novelas can I not remember that there is no place for logic, modernity and easy solutions?

And since I'm comment bombing...

I know he's hurting now, but as I watched Em with Solitario and the fire I couldn't help but think he was in a much better place bring away from SL and its insanity.

It crossed my mind that the female rider in the competition might make a good match for him. Because Mari or Lola would just lead to a life of grief.

Dammit autocorrect.

"... much better place BEING away from SL... "

Didn't someone post info about standard DNA test with non direct relations (like an uncle) were not as conclusive? Or did I dream that? In any case, this amps up the angst and drama. I trust that PJ will put a stop to this madness by changing his mind about signature forgery. I say that he can just pray a few hail Marys and absolve himself.

Right now Aldonza is faced with the horror that she is in love with and married to her brother, and was raped by her father! That would be enough to make many want to curl up and die.

That sounds familiar Vivi. Did David post that? Maybe Hellashelle?

Yeah, Aldonza is really the person most traumatized by the results. That's why I can't believe Adelina isn't finally shouting everything she knows from the rooftops.

Hmmm. Never mind. Adelina doesn't really have any info that would definitively prove Aldonza is Ray's child.

Does she?

No. Adelina has no way of knowing 100% that Al is Ray's child. She wasn't even around when Al was conceived. She and Padre are going on their gut feeling about this. I wished Padre would whip out a photo of his mom or something and show that Al looks exactly like her. In any case, she does have Ray's coloring.

She kind of has Sev's coloring too.

Sigh. At least 20 episodes of uncertainty.

It formerly was the case with a DNA test Vivi, but modern technology and $500 dollars and a mouth swab you can have a DNA test that looks at many more markers. It will show relationships with accuracy. Had it done with suspected relations in asia. It shows aunts, uncles, cousins, gramps, grandma, etc. I suspect this may be what Silvia knows.

Sara, I too hope the female rider and Emanuel hook up and he never returns.

Since DNA confusion comes into play in every other TN, it could have been a discussion from a different show.

But any cheek swab will give exact results, I imagine.

Thanks for that DNA info, tofie. Could you also email Televisa?

Glad I'm not the only one hoping for an Em and female competitor pairing. She was cute.

Tofie- Maybe they need to find a special lab for that. But that would take more research than these characters seem able to handle.

That's true cathyx. TNs want to do all these hidden/secret relationship stories, but want to ignore DNA. We do end up discussing DNA on a lot of shows.

It was definitely on this show during one of our LONG discussions about DNA. In any case, not going to waste anymore mental energy on it. I'll just keep repeating my mantra: Padre Jeronimo will fix it.

Haha.

Om. Padre will fix it. Om

Namaste.

PJ will fix it and kinda mad at Adelina who went with the results easily with Aldonza but ran to PJ and openly discussed it's validity.

Ohm...Namaste... :)

Mari deserves some serious bad karma for making her grieving parents feel guilty about questioning her LIE.

Hehe, Sara, I have several Om mantra's chanted daily, I don't have anything for TN viewing, well, unless you call spittle flying verbal abuse of my TV, restorative centering.

Isn't Aldonza going to exhume Ray? Why don't they take that opportunity to extract some of his DNA? (I think that even in old samples, dental pulp would give a reliable source.) That would solve it once and for all, and would be out of the control of Sev and Cande.

David

That sounds logical and expedient, David.

Therefore it will never happen. Hee hee.

Flying spittle and yelling sounds very restorative and centering, tofie. ;-)

It doesn't bother me that Adelina tread gently with Aldonza and then went running to PJ about the DNA. She doesn't know that Aldie's not Sev's daughter, so she's doubting that now too and doesn't now if it can be fixed. Since she's not sure, it makes sense to consult with the only reasonable person in town - PJ - about their options, before talking to traumatized and generally stubborn as a mule Aldonza.

However, I am pissed with her for getting all upset about the doubtful and easy to re-check DNA results when her nephew left home last night with no money, and no place to go. He's got a stolen horse and didn't tell anyone what he was planning to do. He's alone, he feels unloved and she was VERY good reason to suspect that she is one of two family members that he has in the world, but she has done NOTHING to give him support on that front.

I think Adelina great, but on this point, she's working my last nerve.

Oooh! Nice solution, David. Although, Al might get distracted wondering why the heck her sister's body isn't in there.

That would be a perfect opportunity to open up about Em, then.

I think I purposely avoid thinking about Adelina and Em because like hellashelle I get really pissed about what her silence has done to him.

Hellashelle- I thought her approach with Al was correct in that moment too. And I'm also pissed at her for not being more proactive about Eman, suspecting as she does that he might be her nephew.

David - Genius! I love this solution! Especially because it has nothing to do with Sev and Cande and thus has a much better chance of not being hijacked!

So can't wait for Mari's anvil with her folks, Pru andVal's anvil with the town and Cande's anvil with Cris. Oh, when he finds out that she made up this lie then supported it causing his divorce and mental/emotional/SPIRITUAL torment? I'm going to need popcorn for that reveal.

Vivi - that's right, she did say that they should revisit the blood tests with PJ's idea, but Aldonza squashed that immediately, saying why get reconfirmation for what they already know.

Aldonza now believes Severiano is her father and has no reason to exhume Ray's body (no relations). Now she may want to exhume that phantom sister of hers since they share both father and mother.

Lila, thank you for the great recap of a very distressing episode.

I am tired of the whole bunch of them except maybe PJ and Em.

I see that Em got to "Amarillo by Morning" and wished that Tomas had told Pru that he was just "Here for a Good Time". Sorry George, I just couldn't resist.

Rosemary Primera

I don't think Aldonza is going to abandon the plan to exhume Ray, since it was mostly about not wanting him (and her "sister") to be neglected at the gravesite. So David's excellent idea about the DNA could still be carried out. It depends on how Aldonza reacts to finding out there's no other body in the grave. Will she decide she can't trust ANYONE and therefore finding any truth is just completely impossible or will she decide that since she can't trust any of these live humans, maybe the remains of the man who she was always told was her father can help her get to the truth about something.

Hellashelle! Hey, kid! Good morning and thanks! Wow! I have to go back and listen to this bit, thank you so much!

I thought that in the convo with Pru, Val said that Hum hasn't treated them well, especially lately?

Everybody take that under advisement. Can't listen right now but when I do, I'll fix it! Makes a big difference in the conversation and characterization!

Thanks, Hella!

Darn it! This comment never posted! Going to try to take another look at the Pru/Val busting so I can get their argument straight!

I couldn't make it back yesterday but today is a now day.
Wow Lila, you started out on fire with a chuckle line right at the start. Let's see
what's up at the Santa Lucia Zoo.
A beverage from the Naughty Melon? It's too early, maybe later.

Poor Lola---Only one overheated brain cell. I still love her though. She'll improve.
I have faith.

Will Pru and Val improve? Don't think so. So Pru says that Val isn't a model of virtue---Like mother like daughter maybe?

Val/Vile says that Thomas is a lowly mechanic---Oh Val, I hope that Thomas is there when you car needs fixing.

The fake DNA test results have done what they were supposed to do. Vile is waiting and ready to step in. But I'm waiting for padre J to swing into action on this. Don't know how long it will take but the fake DNA will be exposed.

And that leads to the Cathyx comment that the whole DNA plot is stupid. Well, I don't know about that but after PJ gets involved, I'm sure that this phony DNA will be exposed.

Sara---True, I agree. After five years of watching novelas there seems to be no place for logic, modernity or easy solutions. Yes that's true but if we had all of those things would all novelas end up as very short novelas?

Will Dr. Humberto end up on the dead list before all is said and done? He might but a way to avoid that is to tell Severiano that a list with proof of all of his evil deeds has been prepared and several copies have been made and distributed to be opened in the case of his, Dr. Humberto's death. That might cause Sever to think twice before he does anything.

Most all of the patio peeps are gaga over Eman and Solitario and the competition and we all know that Eman will win. Did he already? If you watch it again, I venture to say that Solitario wasn't the best horse competing.

David---A chiropractor or Salonpas for non serious problems.

Sara---Are you counting the hours, I am.
the gringo

Thanks Lila for the great, detailed recap!

* I don't know anything about horses or horse ownership but can you really just steal someone's horse and then go enter it into competitions using your real name, the horse's name and potentially profit from it? When someone buys a horse legally, is there paperwork involved to show ownership? Do you need paperwork to enter contests and competitions like that to prove ownership? ..or do people just have horses and have no way of proving that they are actually theirs? I have no idea and would love some clarification on this.

* This DNA stuff is just too stupid to really get worked up over anymore. Even the most ancient of DNA tests would be able to tell that the 2 samples both came from males and not a male/female so the fact that Candela swapped Aldonza's hair for Sev's short/greyish hair and the test came back without a hitch just shows that this TN is going to use brainless, contrived plots to intensify the drama. Whatever.

As I've said before, instead of everyone focusing on proving that Severiano is not Aldonza's Father, they should just prove that Ray was by PJ/Aldonza doing a DNA test together. The results may not be 100% but they should definitely be in the 90%+ that they are related assuming Ray really is her Dad which would clear everything up but apparently NO ONE can make that mental leap so we are left with the DNA results we have now and PJ contemplating breaking the law to get another test done.

* I have completely recovered from whatever blip of sympathy I had for Mari after Abelardo died and Eman was treating her badly and she had some sweet scenes with Pato because girl needs an anvil and fast. Uriel and Irma don't deserve the kids they got.. they are such hard working, sweet people with good values and they ended up with two moralless schemers.

Oh and can Lola go mope off screen please? I. don't. care.

Okay, peeps. Not totally back with you and forgive me for breaking the flow of the discussion but I just fixed the BUSTED! conversation between Val and Pru. I wrongly gave Val credit for saying Hum had been good to her and Pru. Thank you for the correction, Hella, here's the corrected conversation:

Thanks to him she feels alive. Well, Pru’s not going to enjoy feeling alive for long because when her Papa finds out, he’s going to kill her! Pru ironically pleads that Val not be the one to throw the first stone at her! Val is unmoved but on one hand understands that Hum has not been treating either of them well, especially lately, but falling for a lowly mechanic! “Yes he’s a mechanic but he has the heart of a prince!”

I'm hoping for a spinoff or a redirection that will tell Emanuel's rise instead of being everyone's dog to kick. Took one day in front of people that do not know the guy and he's the crowd favorite and betcha groupies outside the gate. Fly Emanuel, your mis planes infinitely more valid and fulfilling than begging to be a part of someone else's.

Oh, yes, that Humberto, he's terrible. *snort*

lol, tofie, oh yeah, he'll be swimming in groupies! Unfortunately that's probably going to bring him to Sev's attention again, the news of this mystery guy who came outta nowhere and is taking every major award. But maybe not. This isn't really Sev's thing, is it? He trains the horses and sells them, but I don't know if Sev/Las Animas ever competed. Seems like an oversight if they didn't...you've got the horses, you're doing the training...maybe it isn't as lucrative as selling?

Gracias to all of you this week. I got a new modem yesterday afternoon and now my connexion is much better (although Uvideos is still too herky-jerky) so I've caught up to this week's episodes, recaps, and discussions.

Sev is beginning to unravel. Cristobal's injury has upset him enough for him to be careless about Simoneta's murder, afraid now about the water diversion, and now he's fighting with Candela about removing Cristobal from the hospital. The confrontation with Humberto was epic and I hope Hum has the smarts to write up Sev's evil deeds and stash copies in a safe deposit box and with a lawyer. That's what his threat lacked.

Valeria catching Pru and Tomas was hilarious, especially when Tomas was standing there with the pillows front and back and there was a Full Monty we didn't see. The best follow-up to this would be to find out that Pru and her sister cheater are both involved with Tomas.

Now, am I imagining this or did the actor playing Tomas previously have body hair? If I'm right why on earth doesn't he shave his face and get a better haircut?

Loved the horse show. This looks like a Mexican version of dressage, which is accomplished using minimal movement to control a horse. I don't know if anyone has ever mentioned what breed Solitario is but I think he's an Andalusian, and so are the others in that competition.

Thank you, Rosemary! Yah, I could knock there heads together, then Sara can punch 'em in the throat!

Hey, it's Gringo! Thanks, dude! Without you a lot of the lovely ladies on our stories would be banished to the dart board or dust bin! Pru IS a trip, isn't she, telling her daughter that SHE is not a model of virtue!? And yah, I also agree with Sara: along with cell phones, DNA tests and the internet should kill 90% of novelas, but, they keep draggin' us through this mess. . .and we keep lettin''em!

Linda! Welcome! My dear, you are so right about the horse competition. It does seem kind of bootleg that Eman can just run away with somebody else's horse and become a star on the horsey stompin' circuit! Again, too logical!

DNA . . . brainless, contrived plots to intensify the drama.. . Whatever, indeed!

I have completely recovered from whatever blip of sympathy I had for Mari after Abelardo died. . .girl needs an anvil and fast. And re Lola. . .AMEN to both!

Lila- I'm perfectly willing to be dragged through all the crap these TNs drag me through. I'm completely addicted.

Tofie @1:03, ITA, this WAS the best thing for Eman. Sometimes you're so used to being in a place it's like asking a fish how it feels to be wet! Probably just two days, hell, two hours away from SL should have Eman feeling a NEWman! I hope he wonders why the hell he didn't blow that crazy pop stand earlier!

And Pleeeeae, tn gods, don't let Sev try to pull the rug out from under him by declaring him a fugitive horse thief! Maybe I shouldn't have even said it! *YIKES!!*

"horsey stompin' circuit" hehehe

Don't worry, Lila, his new army of fans will defend him :D

Cristobal would probably speak up and say that he gave the horse to Emanuel. He knows about the death threat against Solitario and would never let that happen.

When he finds out that Emanuel is his half brother Sev will be dead meat to him because of the way Sev has treated Emanuel. I hope he will be there for his bro because this could provoke a real nervous breakdown.

Thanks for the horsey links on dressage, Urban! I'm gonna just bust on out and pat myself on the back because my description of what the rider was doing was spot on! And those Andalusians! What a fine piece of horse flesh! And Eman cuts a fine figure, too!

NEWman

Good one, Lila!

WOW, Lila.Great stuff. You had a movin' and shakin' episode and did it proud.

And the comments, gees guys. I have to go to some appointments this morning and all these great comments already to get through.

Have to love the Padre who immediately surmises that Cande messed with the results. Heaven has certainly blessed this man with top-notch firing brain cells.

Cande is disgusting and her small twinge of feeling guilty she has her son is heartbroken made me want to slap her. You don't love that boy, you possess him and you want to forget your miserable life and be able to get your revenge through him. You know full well you are pushing a certifiable beyotch on him he doesn't love and you could give a flying fig. Where's that anvil?

I agree with all who see E-man in a much better place. I'll take it a step and admit last night seeing Lola all wimpering again, and then seeing him so smiley and happy and standing tall in the saddle made me think " Why can't he just find someone else?" Her lack of trust, jumping to conclusions and whining...ugh.

I guess everyone will now be trying to put Renato and Allie together. I'll back everyone up that said hey, maybe check with Allie first? But I think maybe her past behavior leads everyone to think it's a win-win: always running to him, little jealous when she first met Sylvia, claimed he WAS her boyfriend there briefly, etc.

These next batch of episodes are going to be beanie grabbers I think.

Daisynjay

Thanks, ya'll! Dang it! I hope it makes y'all feel all warm and fuzzy that y'all are waaay better than laundry and deep house cleaning! I mean that con todo corazon! Well, be back in a bit! Keep it going. . .BRB!

I read the comments from the last few days and I will also say (in case I did't already) that Adelina is totally wrong in continuing to hide all this from Aldonza. It doesn't look like she gives a flying damn about Emanuel, whom she knows has suffered too much in his life.

Sev having raped Aldonza will likely be the last Big Reveal and Cristobal will be the last to know.

Right UA, Adelina gives not one toot about Emanuel, ok he's a friend of her princess, but as a sibling, an annoyance to be tip toed around with a prayer PJ shuts up and her secret safe. Don't care how she wants to spin things she is complicit in tossing away an unwanted child when there is evidence that child alive. She wants to spend her time trying to perpetuate the lie a baby's body lies in that grave.

Renato and Aldonza are a couple and she couldn't spend one day away from him. She never made any plans with Cris, never lifted a finger in an attempt to reconcile, it has all been him. Her life and plans have always included Renato and have never changed. Renato has been more patient than he should have but in the end the two that should be together have a green light. Cris being Aldonza's brother only changes one thing. He will stop pursuing.

And with 48 more episodes we are unlikely to get the DNA thing righted anytime soon.

In all fairness when Sev took the newborn Emanuel out into the stormy, wet night Adelina had to worry about saving Roberta's worthless life. That was her priority of the moment. Once Roberta was out of danger it should definitely have occurred to Adelina to wonder whether she was being lied to about the baby being dead as Sev never let her see it. He was 30 feet or more away from her when he yelled back something like "What's the point? It's dead."

She probably never thought about it again until they returned to SL and she talked to the padre.

This leads to another question: Why did Sev and Candela force Emanuel on Humberto? I can understand why the secret was kept from Prudencia, but why didn't Sev do as villains of ancient myth and abandon him to die?

Candela's twisted sense of morality. Sure, Sev would have left it to die, but Candela was calling the shots. At the time, she was just selfish and angry, but not someone to condone or contract a murder. Now...who knows. It's been a good twentyish years for all that anger to fester. Maybe, if she had it to do over again, she would have just told Sev to kill the baby, but back then, those weren't her orders. And to give him away entirely would have been giving up some control--the ability to keep an eye on him and make sure he never finds out the truth and never endangers the image of the perfect, decent family that she's so desperate to keep intact.

And if we're talking "worthless" lives, Roberta is nowhere near the top of my list for that.

Okay. That's enough for today. I have earned my patio time! Lemme catch up with y'all!

So, I got Adelina's reasons for not telling the truth at the start of this, and I could sympthize with them before. Why? Because I can see how someone would think the truth is just a Pandora's box better left closed if Eman was a happy, stable young man. Like, if the mystery baby were Silvia, I could see how Adelina would think telling the truth would be more trouble than it was worth. It could ruin what little family she has left in the world and traumatize Eman himself.

But he's not happy and stable and fine. And this is where she loses me. Outside of telling him the truth, there has been no attempt to get to know him at all. Where is her offer of counsel to this sobrino? He's got serious girl trouble, he robbed a horse, he got arrested, he skipped town. No where in any of this has she reached out just to say "do you want to talk about it?" It's just not fair.

Makes me wonder whether he would have had an easier or harder time finding out the truth had he been left in an orphanage and adopted out.

However, had he been adopted by someone in the next town I don't think the disclosure would be as devastating as it will be when he does learn the truth, which is obviously the writers' reason for this. And your explanation of Candela calling the shots makes this make sense, too. But if she had told Sev to kill the baby and he did it, would it have made her feel even worse toward him?

However, she is killing Cristobal's spirit as surely as she would have killed the infant Emanuel had she not been afraid of hellfire (or worse).

Maybe Cande asked for this torture of Eman and they made it a condition of helping Hum? Or maybe Hum drew the line at killing babies and they thought he might break if anything happened to E?

The problem with the DNA is they don't suspect tampering. PJ knows about maybe 75% of Sev's evil, and he knows about Cande's complicity, but as far as Cris and Aldonza know, Cris himself took the samples and sent them in without his parents even knowing, so how could they have manipulated them.

Sorry, UA and Diva I meant to cite you guys on my comment about Cande asking for E's torment.

I think he might''ve had an easier time if he'd been adopted out of an orphanage, because with that there's the slight possibility that Sev didn't know E was his son. As it stands, Hum, Sev and Cande all know who he is and forced him to grow up feeling unwanted and unloved. Child abusers.

Hellashelle, since we have seen no other relatives of Roberta and Adelina I concluded that their parents are dead and they had no brothers. Maybe no male cousins, either. When Adelina admitted that no man had ever kissed her before (which I still have trouble believing) that said she knows bupkiss about men. She must have been the Tita of her family.

So she probably saw Emanuel as some macho guy who would never need help. Or she's afraid of men.

Cande is very invested in being a "good" and a "respected" person, like most TN villains who are rich and have a high position in society. The difference between her and Sev is that Cande focuses on what the rules are as set forth by the Church and society and follows the letter of those rules, even if she violates the spirit of them. So maybe she wouldn't, even now, condone of murder. Sev doesn't care about the letter or the spirit of the rules, he just works on making sure he doesn't get caught.

I don't think Adelina's treatment of Emmanuel has anything to do with her opinion of men in general or any lack of knowledge about men in general (assuming such knowledge is even possible, given that "men" aren't some monolithic category). It's all about CYA, as presented in her conversation with Padre J...when the truth comes out, she's going to have to answer for her behavior.

Lila thank you for a really good detailed recap.

Love this word"pissivity" hahahaha, LOL. I love it when people don't back down from sev. I was beginning to think hum was afraid of him. He and cande seems to be the only ones that don't back down.
Lola makes me tired. So happy that dad finally slapped that vile mouth little girl of his.
Its about eighteen years overdue. But now is as good as ever. I think the padre has a plan.
At least I hope so. these people just can't get a break. But when a man of God tells you to be patient, somethings comin.

Just my two cents worth. I think the only four people who are mature enough for a commitment and should be a couple are Silvia and Eman. She could polish him up and help him untangle the web that will become apparent when he discovers he is Sev's son. Hopefully on Sev's departure from this earth. The other is obviously Adelina and Joaquin. Perhaps Flavia and Tomas could hit it off as I am sure he could not support Pru in the style to which she is accustom. Let Aldonza and Lola form a bitch and moan chapter. Seems that is all they can do. They might invite Val and Mari to join as well as Pru. Both Renato and Pato are too smart to get tangled up the gals from SL.

Hissy fits from both Lola and Aldonza are getting old. At least good ole Pur is getting a little action, and I suspect a lot more than she might imagine when Hum catcher her red......er, handed. Do not want to miss that!!

Most enjoyable recap Lila, thank you. It was a treat to sit on the patio with a cup of coffee with cream after a two day RESTRICTED diet and fast for a medical thingie.

Candela is a narcissist. She is concerned about appearances so as long as she appears to obey the rules of society she thinks she will always be on top. I don't think she much cares about the spirit of the church's rules.

Someone noted this week that she and Sev don't appear to have any real friends. It has occurred to me that the reason for this might be so that nobody would spot that their marriage is a total sham, so I wonder whether this was any different before she discovered his adultery.

You do have a point about her never condoning murder. If Sev had murdered Emanuel she would be looking over her shoulder and locking her bedroom door for the rest of his or her life.

Someone would spot the sham or nobody else is really good enough? She barely tolerates Pru and Humberto. And that only because she said Humberto was her last remaining family member.

Either explanation will suffice.

I can't wait to see Candela's face when Valeria's bun in the oven is revealed to be Abelardo's. Now someone else knows that and I can see him blackmailing her over it.

Daisynjay Thank you! Cande's got a huge nerve feigning concern for Cris's distress.

Love this: These next batch of episodes are going to be beanie grabbers I think. Better "beanie grabbers" than whatever you call what the last two weeks have been! I'm hoarse from screaming!

Speaking truth at 3:40 Tofie, speaking truth! Adelina's uncaring attitude toward Eman is a real head-scratcher! She's doing the same thing Sev is: rejecting a child because of the other half of his parentage. Seems out of character. Also right that Renato and Aldonza are the real couple. Painful, but true! She didn't even fully cooperate with the DNA thing. I really hate how they wrote her. It's like she WANTS to believe all the lies. Of course, we wouldn't have a show if she told him about Sev raping her from the go and owned up that THAT was why there could never be anything between them. *Sigh.*

Sever and Cande see EVERYONE else as their subjects. Who would even want to be friends with them?

ITA, Cande wouldn't condone murder but twisted enough with hiding him in plain sight. Though she gave a little resistance, Emanuel did work on the ranch and she could see and be reminded of Severiano's indiscretion. Maybe she needs reminding.

I don't think there is any excuse for taking the gonads of her adult son. She is not a happy camper, has no life but the life she'll live through his and whatever offspring Cris will have. She's a stage mom but her son has no marketable talent other than husband and as his agent feels it her right to decide with whom.

Love, this:

I think the only four people who are mature enough for a commitment and should be a couple are Silvia and Eman. She could polish him up and help him untangle the web that will become apparent when he discovers he is Sev's son. Hopefully on Sev's departure from this earth. The other is obviously Adelina and Joaquin.

Hallelujah! Thank you, Emeraldrose! Ah! Glad the RESTRICTED diet is over and that you let the patio be a part of your liberation! May you pass the medical thingie with flying colors!

Nina!, my dear, thank you!

But when a man of God tells you to be patient, somethings comin.

I hope so, Nina, I hope so!

Emeraldrose, I second the good luck wishes on your medical thingie!

I would switch up those 4 to Silvia, Pato, Joaquin, Adelina (she's overdue for a relationship). Emmanuel is good where he is and needs to learn to stand up for himself in a relationship.

Tofie, that scene of Cande vowing that it was her and baby Cris against the world after she learned of the affair with Roberta was chilling. I had no idea the lengths to which she would take this. Her constant surveillance and emotional manipulation and stalking of Cris is absolutely maddening. No friends, a loveless marriage to a psychopathic rapist/murderer, she herself a child abuser. Yah, they think they're better than everybody but the people of SL are not stupid: Cande and Sev must give off some hellafied negative vibes!

Not sure I want to see Emanuel in a relationship right away, not that he doesn't deserve some tenderness but with a little confidence he'll be a rock star and not settle. I understand how the poor guy intends one thing but trips up as he expresses himself. He needs to get to a place where he is able to speak without fear of punishment. Bet the poor guy caught hell from Pru growing up and nothing he said or did was the right thing so he just started winging it. Didn't help for him to fall for Lola who treated him the same.

Pato just seems too much a junior high kid to me.

Silvia doesn't need a man, she'll be fine now she regained her self respect and when or if she is ready should use that head for her choice and it not one of the guys we've seen so far.

I like Joaquin a lot just not with Adelina. I know he would like a mother for his child but he should have a wife not some crush he had 20 years ago. Find him someone else and Adelina can be the live in nanny but make her take a polygraph test monthly.

No, Em shouldn't jump into anything. But I'm sure he'll see that other little gal a lot on the horsey dance circuit. They can get to talking... training together... one thing leads to another. .

Ouch, Tofie! Find him someone else and Adelina can be the live in nanny but make her take a polygraph test monthly.

I can't get the Cande/Sev friendship thing out of my head. Can't you just see Cande looking down her nose at the wife's clothing while Sev lasciviously strips each article of that same clothing off the wife and visually mauls her body. Sorry to the male members of the patio, it IS just a joke but I see the husband totally oblivious to this "micro aggression" against his wife as he sips fine brandy or tequila and puffs on expensive cigars!

Yah, No. These guys don't need friends!

Or, another friendship-killing scenario would be the same Cande/Sev attack of disdain/visual rape and the husband chokes Sev to death! That is not the stuff friendships are made of!

Cande is the worst kind of fraud. She cries misery and as you say Lila, that tirade of her and Cris against the world, though understandable at the time, actually wound up having no bite to it. What she SHOULD have done is kick that worthless husband to the curb. She owned the house, she had the money, her and her son would have been fine. But no, it was more important to keep up appearances and I'm sure the the whole church doesn't like divorce thing played into it.

Frankly, if she was smart, she should have still kicked Sev out and refused to grant him a divorce. She had the means to make Sev and Roberta's lives miserable without keeping Sev around since Roberta was all about wanting to be the head chica in town too. Cande though is more concerned in how she comes off in town, thus her almost obsessive need to be dressed, make-upped and hair coiffed to the extreme every single day than she is whether her son is actually happy or not. As long as he APPEARS to be in line with societal expectation, she doesn't care. Val is the Doc's daughter--looks good on paper. And HER standing as the grand dame is intact.

If Cris wanted to get back at his parents, he should go on another bender, do a rock-star upheaval of a business or hotel room, start dressing like a hood and generally start cavorting like a deliquent around town spewing all the family secrets. Sort of a "you messed up my life, I'll mess up our reputation in town." I'd be in to see that.

Daisynjay

I'm down with the public humiliation of Sev and Cande as at least part of an anvil. And Cris has been two steps from having a delayed teenage rebellious phase for years...have at it!

Ah, now that would be sweet! The closest we got to it is him telling Cande not to touch him after the DNA results. Oh, when he finds out how she has been working him like a puppet! He really had no idea what his parents were like, did he?

When he told Cande not to touch him I thought "it would be awesome if he spent the next 30 episodes being pissed and Cande and Sev for denying him a sister all this time." Then he moves away.

That would just kill the both of them.

They had better give us some nice, in-depth reaction from Cris and I want Cande crushed to the bone from his rejection! No, to the marrow!

Well, that "here Renato, you have her" doesn’t give me hope for an in depth reacting. Darn it.

In depth reaction.

Cris was all determined to get Aldonza a portion of the estate and/or give her El Santuario based on just the unsubstantiated declaration that she's his sister. What's he going to do now that he has "proof"?

I forget what they were going to do with the divorce--still just do it uncontested, or try to use the "fact" that they're siblings to help it go through faster? And I wonder if the court will be fine accepting the current lab results, or if they'd prefer one done in a lab they select, with the signatures of both Aldonza and Cris to confirm that they did indeed provide the samples.

Oh, dear...another beanie moment...why did Padre J need to fake Sev's signature, but Cris could send out two samples and ask for them to be tested without Aldonza's signature.

Yah, poor baby is beat, though! You realize he had only a few hours of rest in the hospital when he was, uh, unconscious, due to the mother from hell! He'll recapacitate (is that a word?) and find out about Cande's machinations and really let it rip on her and Sev!

After Pru's latest low down move, it's looking like mutually assured destruction between those two. Let them out each other in front of Cris and Hum. Pleeeeeze!

Maybe you need a signature for blood but not for hair? o_O

Yah, Daisy was right. Beanie grabbing is firmly entrenched and it's going to get worse!

Pero, no es La Gata!

Really Lila? You think that Cris will 'let it rip'? Lol, he has enough trouble doing eye rolls. He'll say a few words stomp out of the room, Cande will follow him and he'll tell her he wants to be alone. Later, when he's calmed down, she will convince him she did what she did for his own good, they will hug, and he'll visit Aldonza.

I think PJ needed Sev's signature to get the blood sample out of the hospital?

Pru and Val's relationship is so odd. They're not very mother/daughter, they're REALLY not friends. It's like Pru is Val's cousin that she hired to be her personal assistant? Or even like Pru is Val's stepmom who was also a mail order bride, it's so weird.

You know what surprised me? That Cande didn't give us a huge smile at the end of the episode. She just seemed surprised by Cris's actions. Is that just because she doesn't understand someone sacrificing someone for the person they love (because this is something of a sacrifice in Cris' mind)?

Also, how much time passed between Cris sneaking into Aldonza's bedroom and handing over the hair samples (which we all know aren't adequate to establish this relationship)? Both parents have free access to his room whenever he's not in it and he's already accused them of claiming this out of desperation.

Aldonza should go to court over this, but she won't. Going to court will force the truth, but could also get her raped again... and/or killed.

Gracias a dios no es La Gata.

But hey, thanks to La Gata we can handle the little bumps in this one. See, there's something good even in La Gata. ;-)

Ok. Comment disappeared. Ooo-weeee-ooooo!

Well, can't reproduce it. Anyway, Hella, surprised also that we didn't get a gleeful grin from Cande. If she is shocked at Cris's sacrificial act, this would be like her realizing Cris actually does love Aldonza. Would she dare go there?

I want to think I'd still like this show if I had seen it pre-LG...and DQTQTQ...but I tell ya, being the follow-up to those two shows sure doesn't hurt! On LG nobody would even bothered asking where the SAMPLES came from to do the DNA test!

5Ft, you've got to let it go, lol. I went through exactly what you are going through after Corazon Indomable. But luckily I was wise enough to not watch La Gata because it was obviously a replay of CI, UGH!!, even having the main lead being the same actor! I started DQTQTQ, but quickly ended my viewing because I was so burned by bad TNs and that one showed serious signs that it was going to be a bad TN. I'm very picky now, with good reason, certain directors will never be in my lineup. I'm sure I'm oversensitive, but for good reason.

Lol, cathyx...if I hadn't been recapping those two, I would have ditched them! Good for you getting out while the gettin' was good.

I was recapping Corazon Indomable, so I know what you mean. I wanted to FF through the whole show. It got to where I was using ccs in english just to get through it fast.

UA - I was wondering about the time in this too. It feels like this whole thing, from the time jump, has happened in slightly less than real time. Val's not showing and the rental's contract's only for one year, so it feels like it's only been about 3 months, max.

We forgot about the one year moratorium on Cris getting remarried. Wonder how that will fly with Val.

We all know it won't.

Valeria doesn't love Cristobal; he's just the best catch because he has the richest parents. She's envisioning endless shopping and sitting on her duff doing her nails. Maybe cheating on him if it suits her. She's completely delusional.

I was thinking it was kinda low for Aldonza not to ask Renato to stop the divorce proceedings but turns out it was the right call. Hate for Renato to have to wait long to move in, there is a spare room now Emanuel gone. I wonder when she tells Renato about the rape and who did it. I imagine her funk more about her father raping her than about being Cris's sister. Reason enough Adelina should have said some comforting words or provide hope the test could be wrong.

Well, yes, clearly she won't be happy, but I'm wondering if she'll do a classic Val (throw a monumental tantrum and then come back the next day to apologize) or if she'll skip the freak out on account of being pregnant, but spend ever waking second letting all of SL know that she's having Cris' baby and he would marry her now but Aldonza the B**** won't let him or if she'll skip all of that altogether because she doesn't want to draw attention to the fact that her fiancé is married to his sister.

I love reading ya'lls comments.
Whoever said the "horsey dancin circuit", that is hilarious. I went back to see if I can find out who said it but I just couldn't find it, its too many, anyway ya'll are just hilarious to read.
I have a question actually two: what exactly does the anvil mean and the beanies. I might know but I just want to be sure.
About the DNA testing and all that stuff, those are some good suggestions y'all made. y'all do know that if they did any of that stuff It would probably end the show much sooner. I think a lot of that stuff they let go on for effect and it works cuz sometimes I want to yell at the TV or throw something. I'm like "cris go to you daddys room get some hair out of his brush, send it and donny's hair to the lab". Of course that would work if they learn to close their doors when they make those private phone calls. And don't talk so loud, so they can't hear through the door.

This show has been exhausting this week. I sure hope something good happens next week for these guys cause they can't seem to get a break. See, that effect thing works, its bumin us out, hahahah!!!!
All you daddys have a" Happy Fathers Day:-)!

Nina! That was me that referred to the competition Eman was in as the horsey stompin' circuit. ;D

As for the anvil, if you are familiar with the Warner Brothers cartoon, Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner, the Coyote spent all his time trying to capture the roadrunner. He Jerry-rigged all kinds of contraptions or, most often, ordered all kinds of stuff from the Acme company, none of which worked. Some of his traps involved an anvil and sure as you're born, instead of smashing the Roadrunner, the anvil would end up on his head. See the picture on the side bar. I don't know who started it but the just desserts, the comeuppance, the punishment for the baddies came to be called "anvils."

Up next, the "beanie."

*just deserts. . .I'm eating a later super. . .haven't had dessert yet!

Here's a definition of "beanie" that seemed just made for us. The type described in this quote is made from aluminum foil, as many are, but here in the various Caray patios, we've proposed everything from beanies knitted from fine mohair to those crafted of titanium. Here's the quote:

"An Aluminum Foil Deflector Beanie (AFDB) is a type of headwear that can shield your brain from most electromagnetic psychotronic mind control carriers. AFDBs are inexpensive (even free if you don't mind scrounging for thrown-out aluminium foil) and can be constructed by anyone with at least the dexterity of a chimp (maybe bonobo). This cheap and unobtrusive form of mind control protection offers real security to the masses. Not only do they protect against incoming signals, but they also block most forms of brain scanning and mind reading, keeping the secrets in your head truly secret. AFDBs are safe and operate automatically. All you do is make it and wear it and you're good to go! Plus, AFDBs are stylish and comfortable." http://psg.mtu.edu/pub/pub/stearns/fun/afdb/afdb.html

In short, you refer to a beanie when you want to say the storyline or character or some other aspect of the novela is illogical, unrealistic, whacko, crazy. . . you get the idea. So we don the beanies as a protection against this kind of frustrating, maddening telenovela nonesense!

Longer time Caray patio dwellers, feel free to add your own/better/shorter definition of the beanie.

;D

Thank you miss lila I completely get the beanie aspect. That would probably prevent me from screaming at the tv. I could pretend I'm wearing a beanie and tune out the insanity of sev, cande, lola, aldonza and all the other crazies tn land.
Now that I'm sure about the anvils, l'll be wishin so many on the baddies. They are so deserving of everyone they got coming.
Thank you again.

I remember those Roadrunner cartoons I grew up watching those anvils. They were pretty big and heavy falling on that stupit coyote's head, he deserved everyone of em.
Thanks again:-D

I just realized that lat night I fogged on something very important: If Cristobal and Aldonza were siblings they wouldn't need a divorce but an annulment.

That might require a court hearing and a DNA test with a court chain of custody. I don't know if an argument could be made that this would need to happen in DF but if it did, Sev and Candela would be dead in the water (pun intended) because they wouldn't have influence there.

When Cande first said that Cris and Aldonza were siblings, they used the word annulment a few times but then all of the sudden started using the word divorce. I noted it in one of my recaps.

I'm figuring that the annulment/divorce issue will be played out as precisely as the DNA issue. Meaning not at all precise or correctly.

So true, cathyx. Doesn't matter what term they use, it will in no way actually reflect any sort of real legal proceeding. Mexican or otherwise.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of.

We need better verisimilitude in these tales. If you want to go by the original tale, make it a novela de epoca where kinship is established by a birthmark or something.

One question: If Cristobal had said that they had consummated the marriage, do you think Candela would have pulled this one?

Cande dropped the sibling bomb, THEN asked if they consummated.

Meaning it doesn't matter. She pulled it without thinking.

I feel like we asked this before, but what is they had not only consummated, but Aldonza had gotten pregnant? We're pretty sure Cande's against murdering children, but that was twenty years ago...then again this would be her precious baby boy's child...

I believe Renato asked Aldonza about using the sibling thing to terminate/annul the marriage after the sibling bomb was first dropped. She refused because she did not want it made public that she and Cris were siblings. And so the normal divorce proceedings continued.

Happy Father's Day to all our dads here on the blog!

Yes, indeed, Happy Fathers Day to all Patio Dads and all the Dads in our lives!

I can't remember what we eventually said about that, but it would have been great drama if they had gone with Aldonza getting pregnant. Well, great drama if the story was given to the A team writers, not the B team.

I really can't wrap my head around Cande at all. And for bad guys, she and Sev seem more reactionary than pro-active. They communicate, but usually after one has popped off at the mouth or done something crazy.

And Daisynjay said way up in the comments something that we've all been scratching our heads about...Why in the world has Cande tolerated Sev all these years?? I think we talked about it in LFDD, too. Is social standing and outward appearance so important?

Clearly it is for these stories to work. But if they are going to do that, I agree with Urban. They need to be put in a different historical context. I said at the beginning of QTPD, that the story would work better in the 40s or 50s.

That last comment was in connection to Hellashelle's comment.

Thank you for the info about the divorce/annulment, Vivi.

hellashelle - I don't think Candela would harm one hair on the child's head but I think she'd make it her life's mission to rid that child of Aldonza from his/her life. I think she'd put pressure on Severiano to once again 'do something' so that Aldonza is out of the picture so that Cande could be like a surrogate mother to that child. I don't think she'd be capable of rejecting a baby that was of her and her son's own flesh and blood unlike Severiano who seems content treating Eman like he's garbage. If the grandchild were a girl...and grew up to be attractive like her mother, I'd fear what Sev might do not only because that child would be the child of Aldonza and essentially the grandchild of Roberta, 2 women that he despises, but he would know that he could hurt Aldonza through hurting that child and that seems like something he would do.

Urban - I don't know if they will drag out this particular DNA reveal for the rest of the TN given the fact that it's not the only DNA reveal that needs to be done (Eman's identity also and with Adelina sticking her head in the sand per usual & PJ w/ his hands tied because of confession who knows when this will come to light) and because it's not the only obstacle keeping the main couple apart since we still have Val's pregnancy which surprisingly is still under wraps. They could reveal the truth about Aldonza/Cris not being siblings, for example, sometime next week and still have enough angst with Val's baby to keep them apart for weeks to come.
Who knows when Cris and Aldonza will find out that they aren't really siblings but I'm just pointing out that once they do, it's not like it's free and clear to wedded bliss.. thinking that Cris got Val pregnant will surely cause more tears and problems so the show doesn't really need to drag out the siblings DNA BS much longer. They might but it's unnecessary.

It is about social position, what everyone else would say (or think if they don't say), and a lot of antiquated notions about divorce and marriage.

Would Candela want to kill Aldonza's hypothetical baby? Probably, but considering the church's position on abortion and the previous actions in this story she might demand something similar and force Humberto to deliver the baby and make it disappear. We would then see that she is Sev's true soulmate (insofar as either of them have a soul) in thinking that the baby is garbage because of her hatred for Aldonza. Cristobal's feelings wouldn't enter into her equation as any point and she would probably lie to him as Roberta had been lied to 20+ years ago.

Of course, this assumes that Humberto would comply, which it doesn't seem he would. He has a lot of dirt on both of them now and he should be spinning it into their downfall.

Heck! Aldonza wouldn't comply with letting Hum deliver any child of hers. And Adelina sure as hell wouldn't let that happen again.

Happy Fathers' Day to all the dads out there.

With the talk about our beanies, I thought of our little 4 year old asking for "gear" to ride her bike...helmet, knee pads, etc. I think that we need more than beanies at this point in our tale. We need some gear.

Sara, do we have a definite answer about what Patoand Syl were eating ? Was it ice cream? I saw this saying on a mug..."Money can't buy happiness...but it can buy ice cream." Now,I am hungry for ice cream.

Susanlynn-I have been dying for ice cream ever since Pato and Silvia shared ice cream and misery.

I went to the grocery store and finally got some this morning. And butterscotch syrup. I plan to eat it while I watch several episodes of one of my other TNs.

Linda said:

I think that is a spot on assessment of Candela.

Diva also made a comment yesterday about Cande following the letter of church law while ignoring the spirit (or was that in reverse?) I loved that, too.

Sara...Good for you...see, money can buy happiness. Maybe Severed and Candy don't eat enough ice cream.Perhaps they are so sour because they do not get enough sweets. Gee, I wish I had some ice cream in the freezer. One of my former students owns a dairy farm and cafe , and she makes her own ice cream...and homemade pies that taste just like my mother's. Hey, what' s better than ice cream?...Apple pie a la mode.

Sar saga- ITA, this should have been a period piece. Nowadays some women would have put him out of their misery. That would explain why she's going crazy, she's trying to put up facade. trying to make everybody think that everything is just hunky dory in her private life. those people are not stupid, they know their lives are screwed up. they're just too afraid to call her on it. Shes a MENDOZA!!! Yawn:-◇ She needs a laxative.hahahahaLOL!!!!!

Sara- I'm sorry, my fingers have a mind of their own. What I meant was Sara- at the beginning above→→→→→↑

I pity Alejandra Barros that coiffure... despite that it probably postponed a facelift.

The facade is beginning to crack. Candela isn't close to Humberto and Prudencia because since Loose Lips Sink Ships, she fears Pru finding out too much. They are her only relations.

Great point, Vivi, about Aldonza not allowing Humberto to deliver the hypothetical baby. However, she doesn't know what we know. Adelina is the one who would have to stand guard or get them off to DF.

Perhaps they are so sour because they do not get enough sweets.

Are you saying they need The Candy House?!

They don't deserve the Candy House! What's more, they can't handle the Candy House!

New idea for an anvil....force feeding The Candyhouse...nasty.

I'm convinced that the prop is made of ceramic or they took an actual candy house and glazed it with acrylic.

The problem with things like it is that they look too nice to want to eat them and they end up getting stale.

It might be stale outside but probably a boat load of secrets inside. They keep passin that
Darn sweet house rapped in plastic, theres something in that house that just may blow everyboby out of the water. Just open it already. They'er tickling our taste buds, they know we know there's something in that candy house. They'er realin us in. Or there could be nothing to it. We will see.

Nina, we already know there's a diamond ring inside of it. But no one on the show knows it.

They may have snuck something else in there while we weren't lookin. You know how they like to surprise us.

Feliz Día de los Padres! For the dads who hang out here, anyway. No slippers or cigars for Sev!

Lila-I forgot to thank you for your explanations of anvils and beanies. They were great.

I hope doris can give us an update on the beanie orders. I really want my blinged-out SBC monogrammed model.

Hey, girl, you are welcome! We throw those terms around and some relative newbies may not get what we're talking about. I like your model and maybe add a chin strap and built in wi-fi headphones so I can sitch over to my ipod when it gets too ridiculous!

*sitch? switch!

The mental image of a beanie with a chin strap always cracks me up.

I wonder if we need a glossary...what else would go on it besides beanies and anvils?

Happy Fathers' Day to Joaquin and padre....Severed and Hum..no.

Um. Anita and I have actually discussed a Caray glossary. I should get started on that.

What other decent dads do we have on this show? Uriel's not bad...he tries, anyway. Melesio's a good dad/grandpa.

I think that may be it, Diva.

Padre J
Joaquin
Mel
Uriel

Just four?

How about Renato's dad?

I know he cheated on his wife...but before that? After that? Not enough information?

Yah, put Renato's Dad on the list! Re glossary I thought I remembered you mentioning it, Sara, but I didn't want to sound like I was being pressurey--there must be tons of phrases that could go in it like RPC, ISBIS and such. How easy or difficult would it be to search the Caray site. Searching within sites seemed to be easier a few years ago!

Renato's dad? I guess it depends on whether a guy has to be a good person in order to be a good father, or whether he can be a good father, even if he's a total rat bastard. I think there's something to be said for the idea that part of being a good father is treating the mother of his children well--not that they have to be married, but they need to at least get along. Renato's dad did screw up royally, but does that negate all the good things he did and all the times he's given Renato some good advice?

I wonder about Lardo...if he had lived, and found out Val was carrying his baby, would he have gotten his shit together and tried to be the kind of man his child could be proud of?

Oh, I'm glad Renato's dad goes on the list. I like the actor :-)

Or maybe he should just be on the list provisionally? I'm still not sure.

I was going to start the list with the TN acronyms first. I'm more daunted by trying to track down who to credit for things. I know ISBIS was started on Reina de Corazones, but I don't know by whom exactly.

I bet if you put it out there, someone would remember and be able to fill in the blanks on the, uh, etymology :p

Our comments crossed.

I can't see Lardo becoming a good dad, but he did seem genuinely to like Val. But a good woman is part of that equation. Val would have to be the kind of woman that could positively influence Lardo and I highly doubt she could.

I doubt she would want to! That's a sad thought...he would have tried to make her happy, and probably tried to be a decent person, but she's so hung up on money. How pathetic! To settle for some guy who doesn't give a rat's ass about you just for his money. And I know she knows better! She can see that Candela isn't exactly happy.

Well, seeing as how we're all human and bound to make mistakes (repeat outside and even pay-for-nookie offense), I'm inclined to include Renato's Dad. His comfort and counsel when Ren's Mom died and when the boss man fired Ren from the partnership were redeeming for me. I also liked how Ren's dad called him on compromising his integrity and losing his moral compass over Aldonza.

Now, if we keep strictly to the story and don't get too "real worldly" about it, the only Dads I can think of leaving out are Sev and Hum. I would have even considered Hum because I know plenty of good Dads whose children were, well, very, very bad, like Val and worse. However, because he allowed Pru and Val to treat Eman like the underside of their shoes and protected Sev's lie and watched him also treat Eman like excrement, I say Hum has to share the bad Dad's list.

Very pathetic. It seems odd to me though that she is not as overt about it as other villainous ladies we've seen. Usually there is constant reference to it. I know I've read several comments here that indicate we're all sort of wonder why exactly she has attached herself to Cris (pre-pregnancy.)

I was on the fence about Hum, but when you put it that way.... He doesn't get to say that he loves Em like his own child, and then escape the same kind of judgment I'd give him if Em was his child by birth. He kept him at arm's length, let Pru and Val treat him like dirt, and is mostly concerned because he doesn't want Em to think badly of him. Priorities, dude.

In the comment above the "very pathetic" was in reference to Diva's comment about Val.

And I'm already sort of waffling. Val did seem truly upset about Lardo's death. Meh. But I guess deep down she really does have a vile soul.

Lila I love this:

"His comfort and counsel when Ren's Mom died and when the boss man fired Ren from the partnership were redeeming for me. I also liked how Ren's dad called him on compromising his integrity and losing his moral compass over Aldonza."

You've pointed out the things that I was thinking of when I suggested him.

As much as I try to see the best in Hum and as much as he's tried to make amends with Em...it is waaaay too little waaaay too late. For years he allowed Em to be emotionally abused by Val and Pru. Hum gets some throat punching for that. Diva can follow up with the shin shots.

Thanks, Sara, let's put him in. It's too bad we haven't seen much of him lately. I hope he'll come back and be a voice of reason later on when/if Ren bugs out when things don't go his way with Donnie!

Lordy. We're probably approaching 200. Guess there's no way to "increase the capacity" for comments?

Well, I think Val has that extra added...delusion?...that she's "in love" with Cris (I don't think that word means what she thinks it means!) and that if he would just make a little effort, he could be "in love" with her, too. Hum called it--she's a gold digger. She just doesn't want to be honest with herself or anyone else about it.

Renato certainly needs SOMEONE to tell him unos cuantos verdades who isn't going to get fired for it.

She's also got the delusion that she's a "good girl from a good family" and surely they aren't gold-diggers!

Nope, good girls aren't gold diggers. Good girls also do it in the back of cars. Ugh! My back hurts just thinking about it. At least Pru sprung for a weekend at a hotel!

Sorry. Comment bomb.

So, Val et al keep harping on "good family." Were Ray and Padre J considered "good family" and Roberta was the one that brought them down? Or were they always seen as somewhat lower on the social ladder?

Carp.

Sorry.

Really that question is moot since they are NOT going to give us a prequel. Drat.

Considering that Cande was friends with the Alcocer boys, she wouldn't have been allowed to hang out with them if they weren't a "decent" family. Unless she didn't get that snotty attitude from her parents. I'm sure in Cande's eyes, Roberta brought them all down a rung regardless of where they started out.
