Antes muerta que Lichita #15 10/12/15: discussion post

Hi all! This is Ezra here... My recording of the show was a total failure, so I didn't even get to watch this morning!!!

I thought we could instead have a discussion in the comments?

Thank you for giving us a spot to chat, Ezra! I'm sorry your recording was a bust.

I know well the problems with recording, Ezra. Vcr/dvr: either can be a pain.

What I remember:

Sandra and Augusto still cannot keep their hands off of each other.

Yes, Luciana does need to work to buy the luxuries of life! She is all alone. Doesn't have a "perrito que le ladre" (is all alone). Maybe she and Alicia could be a team . . . They shake on it with the tips of their fingers. She takes Alicia's new slogan for the Grimaldi show campaign as her own.

Roberto is depressed about his son and possible adoption.

Magos and two other undesirable friends are in the parking garage at Supermercado Más where Magos wants to commit vandalism as revenge for her mother not being able to get her final separation check. Roberto sees that she is up to no good in the garage at one point and makes sure that she knows that he recognizes her and leaves. Eventually, Magos ends up slashing the tires of the manager's car. Looks like there are security cameras. Yay! Is what I say.

The social worker from the orphanage goes to check our Roberto's home address and runs into Gumaro. Not fortunate for Roberto.

Alicia tries on a pair of Grimaldi shoes and we have some funny schtick as she tries to walk and stumbles around until Roberto catches her in his arms. He also tells her she should wear heels because they lift her (backside). He doesn't say it just shows it with his own body.

Beatriz is playing "Für Elise" when Luciana comes in and begs for forgiveness and apologizes for everything at work to Beatriz. Luciana says she is suffering from "bullying laboral" (workplace bullying). She begs her for Beatriz's support and keeps falling on the piano (causing a great out of tune crash) in the emotion of her desperation. They sing Ave María. Funny. Next day, Beatriz comes to see Luciana in her room. Luciana still has not gone to work. She is afraid to run into her uncle. Beatriz tells her she has prayed and that if Luciana has no job at Icónika, maybe it is a sign to go back to Argentina. Luciana is panicked by that pronouncement. She quickly gets herself together (talking to herself and taking selfies all the way)even puts on her ring to get to work.

Roberto wants Alicia to come to see filming of Supermercado Más commercial. She does. The present short termed workers cannot pull off the commercial. Alicia explains the whole situation about firing the older workers enacted by the manager to Mr. Ontiveros the owner. Much to the annoyance of the manager, Alicia convinces the owner to let her mother come back and do the commercial because she has the familiarity with the store and product that is needed. Elsa does come to do the commercial. She also manages for her mother to get her check.

CORRECTIONS: Should be "Grimaldi shoE" campaign. Also, Magos broke the WINDSHIELD of the manager's car. She just talked about slashing the tires.

Fun episode. I enjoyed the physical comedy with Alicia and the shoes and Luciana with the piano.

I am happy that Elsa got to be in the commercial and is finally getting her check. Too bad Alicia could not have gotten her her old job back. She had been in charge of the deli meats for twenty years!

It was depressing watching the social worker interacting with dunderhead Gumaro. At one point in the conversation, a neighbor stopped by and called Gumaro a "trácala": swindler. Roberto's shaky cachet suffered maybe irreparable damage.

Also, the electricity got turned off th the Gutiérrez house for nonpayment.

Hey Ezra! Long time no see. Nice to see you on the blog again. Sorry you had technology issues.

Jarifa- You are a star for filling in so quickly.

Ezra, better luck with your recording next time. I'm sure it was very frustrating!

Excellent recap Jarifa. You have such a way with words - "Magos and two other undesirable friends" was spot on and made me smile. Magos herself however is in huge trouble. Not sure if she smashed the windshield in the previews or last night (?)

Alicia is coming out of her shell. The tide is turning and I like the mischievous little smile she is sporting more and more. I also loved seeing Elsa do the commercial. What a pro. What a huge loss for the company. I applaud young and enthusiastic but seasoned professionals are just as desirable.

Gumaro and the social worker were painful to watch. She really seems to be going above and beyond her job here, she really seems to have it in for Roberto!

Diana

Diana- Magos vadalized the car (on camera) last night. Jarifa- I would celebrate her getting caught with you, except I just think it will mean more trouble for Lichita and Elsa, endangering Elsa's severance and Lichita's job.

Thank you Jarifa for the recap

Appreciate you thinking of us Ezra

Love Alicia doing the Groucho Marx eyebrow wiggle

Alicia in those heels was so funny and the timing perfect when she fell and Roberto stepped to catch her. Maite didn't even look back

Yep, Magos just snatched defeat out of the jaws of victory

I expect a social worker to check the residence and his place of employ

Sandra really wants Luciana gone, is it only because she's afraid of the affair being discovered or concerned for her position?

Vivi, you are probably right. Nevertheless, with this episode it was disturbing to see that Magos wasn't just the deadbeat daughter but also had some real criminal tendencies beyond cheating neighbors in a a tanda. I would not be surprised to see her jailed at some point and losing custody of her child just like Roberto.

Yes, Groucho Marx eyebrow wiggle, Tofie! Since I love bangs, it hit me last night that the problem with Alicia's hair(wig) is that the bangs are way too short. If they were long, it could be a cute look. Mid forehead just looks like a haircut gone bad.

Thank you, Jarifa! I really enjoyed a lot of last night's episode. Magos was not part of it though. I'm very afraid of what this means for Elsa.

I loved watching Alicia stick up for the dismissed employees and fixing the problem. I did NOT like Sr O being unable to remember who she was until she she mentioned the Vaca Feliz.

Tofie - I feel like Sandra wants Luciana gone because she knows she's worthless. But being the boss's niece, there's not a lot she can do. She's probably most worried about the affair being discovered.

Thank you Jarifa for filling in with all that you remembered.
I wrote about Alicia's wig in yesterdays late comments. Yes, it's the bangs that make her hair look bad---fix the bangs and it would be a cute and stylish look.

Ezra it's a bummer when equipment fails. Must see tv is a hard thing to miss.

I agree with all of the comments today. The walking in high heels scene last night was a riot and the social worker checking up on Roberto doesn't look good.

I am in the middle with Magos though. I had high hopes that Magos would straighten up and fly right. I really get it that she was angry at the store manager for laying off her mother but out and out vandalism? NO! Magos, don't go there! Too late, she already did. This cannot go well for everyone involved. Come on Margos, don't dishonor your family. Two wrongs don't make a right.

must see tv
the gringo

Gringo, I have felt all along Magos was much more good than bad. I was really shocked she blew out the windshield. To me, that didn't seem in keeping with the character we've seen thus far. A little swindling, a few lies, but out and out violence? It just didn't ring true for me.

I agree though this will reflect badly on her mother and Alicia. Magos needs to grow up. Seems her daughter has a better handle on that than she does.

Diana

I don't know. I wasn't shocked by her vandalizing the car. This IS the woman who has taken her father's taxi (his livelihood) out joyriding many times-- drinking while driving, and racking up all kinds of speeding tickets. It's only by very good luck she didn't end up killing herself, her friends, or other people.

I think Magos is very loyal to her mother and is very angry at how she's been treated. I'm not excusing it, but I do understand that kind of rage when you feel someone you love is being treated unfairly.

I did think her hoodie with the ears we very cute, and looked cute on her though. Sherlyn will eternally look like a little kid.

We crossed comments, Vivi. Magos is very impulsive...in a bad way.

Sara- I agree that the rage was actually coming from a good place because she was mad at the way her mother was treated. But again, Magos does not have a good record of making wise decisions, whether she's angry, sad, or happy (see joyriding comment above).

I thought it was funny how she and her nini (slacker) friends were complaining about "The Man" keeping them down, when none of them have ever held a real job in their lives or look like they've even tried. I was fine that she was angry on her mother's behalf, but acting like all this was a personal affront and she understood the struggle of the worker, was laugh-worthy.

Thanks Jarifa for pitching in! you are always so eager to help out... Ezra, i know how it feels to commit to something and have the dvdr equipment failure... we have all been there.. dont worry...
I did not watch last night or can watch tonight or tomorrow but it sounds like i missed some good development on Lichita and good thing she got the Mas store owner to bring Elsa back for the commercial and her check.
I will be checking in during the week... just real busy in evenings tonight and tomorrow.

Hey! newsflash!!! did I hear right?? I just saw a clip report on Gabriel Soto and why he postponed again his wedding and the christening of his child who is approaching 2 yo.
He said it is a matter of work load... he has several things going right now (movie, yo no creo en los hombres... ) ... and.. Lichita!! it sounded to me like they said he is currently in the cast of Lichita!! Has anyone else heard something about Gabriel Soto joining the cast? I bet he is the 'other man' who triggers some more active pursuit between Roberto and Lichita. So Gabriel and Arath/Roberto.... hmmmmm!!! interesting choice for Lichita if i heard right.

That's correct Marta. He's signed on for Lichita. I think he'll be in about 40 episodes.

ok confirmed from an esmas article on his joining the cast... seems he will be a client business owner, participating in approx 40 episodes

sara, our posts crossed... Gabriel has grown in the acting skill quite a bit from his initial days... i liked him very much in Refugio although his character there was a bit cardboardy...

Knowing Gabriel was going to be in this was a big lure for me.

I first saw him in Querida Enemiga and liked him in that and everything since, especially la verdad occulta which remains one of my favorites (Yanez was in it too so)...

Sara, I think Magos loves her mother too and was trying to defend her, albeit in an angry and destructive manner. She needs to refine her method, not her motive...

Diana

Gabriel is holding his own in Yo No and that's saying something with the stellar cast in that one. He could easily be mowed under and perhaps he just needed others around that force him to up his game. Love it when these folks stop relying on looks or a hot bod or they look foolish. More power to the guy.

I agree tofie.

I would imagine you elevate your performance if you are surrounded by talented actors who bring their best daily.

In most of the roles I've seen him in, he strikes me as rather serious and intense. I like that though. I am not watching Yo No and am sorry to be missing that.

Diana

Call me a cynic, but I think Magos is just frustrated she can't get her hands on the money from the severance check.

I agree with you Jarifa and you put into words my thoughts exactly. Her reason not altruistic at all but a convenient excuse.

As a cynic of the highest order, I'm ashamed I didn't think of it, Jarifa. ;-)

I thought that too, but didn't want to mention it without proof. Magos has mentioned that money often, like it was owed to HER and not Elsa.

Just a small thing but I couldn't believe the length of the sleeve on Lichita's shirt/blouse earlier in the show when she had on her grey outfit. The sleeves came down to the middle of her palms. I know that she isn't supposed to be sharpest looking person in the office but---Who dresses her?

the gringo

Vivi, the "money talk" is enough proof for me. In my opinion, Magos got arrested for disorderly conduct because of her same frustration of not being able to get her mitts on the moolah. What event short of jail or losing custody will turn heraround?

Gringo, you are so right about the sleeve length. Does Alicia look in the mirror? I cannot wait to see a more updated Alicia.

Alicia dresses like she gets her work clothes from a very poorly stocked Goodwill store (you got to go to the Goodwill that gets the good stuff).

So we didn't see much, or anything really, of Daphne. I can't wait to see what they have cooked up for her to do. Will she use her powers for good?

Denise

Thanks, Ezra for giving us a place to play.
Not happy with Magos being so destructive. Not the best way to solve problems.

I really enjoy Beatriz. She probably knows more than she lets on and is desperately trying to make her life perfect. Her scene with Luciana at the piano was hilarious, as she felt the injury each time Luci crashed down on the keys. The volume on their rendition of Ave Maria was very low, but sounded like something that would make the neighborhood dogs howl.

For a while there I was worried Magos would do something both to the Mas guy's car AND the Ikonica van parked nearby. I guess she still could.

Jarifa, Terrific highlighting. Ezra, thanks for a place to chat - hope your IT woes are over by now.

Magos needs to be in reform school. Such heartache her parents will have if they see that tape. She never thinks things through. This isn't a childish prank, it's a premeditated criminal act.

I hope Augusto finds redemption eventually, cause he is so much fun to watch with his arrogant self. But Sandra seems to be having some regrets.

Gracias Ezra, Jarifa, y todos. Ay, that Gumaro...he completely misses all the signs when he needs to stop talking!
