New Telenovela: Yago - Synopsis & Main Characters. Gran Estreno Monday May 2, 2016. Recappers Needed.
Labels: camino, hotel, poder, proximas, sda, synopsis-cast, yago
Does anyone know whether we have enough recappers for this? Mauricio informed me that, à priori, all the recapping spots are open but I'm pretty sure that Cynderella told us that she will be onboard for this show. I'm happy to volunteer to recap "Yago" because it is a short and interesting novela. Ideally, I would like to alternate Fridays with another recapper or recap Thursdays, in this order of preference, if it is at all possible. Well, we have this thread to discuss this and make arrangements in order to ensure that every weekly episode gets recapped.
Cheers, guys! I hope to see all my PyP Patio Pals in the new "Yago" Patio! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday! :)
I'm excited about this one. Judging from the promos, and the two minute sneak peek on Hulu, it looks like this one will be a good one. I have heard so many good things about Turkish dramas, so I'm hoping that it will follow the original "Ezel" closely.
It is definitely a plus that this one will only run for 62 episodes. It's the perfect length.
It certainly does have a nice cast. I see some familiar faces (Ivan Sanchez, Flavio Media, Manuel Ojeda, and Pablo Valentin) and some new faces as well (Gabriela de la Garza and Ximena Romo). It will be interesting to see Pablo Valentin in a non-comedic role, after watching him on Antes Muerta Que Lichita.
Can't wait until Monday night so we can start on this new adventure.
I haven't seen Iván Sánchez in anything before but this is a very complex role and if he is able to deliver, then I'll be very happy! The main pull for me to watch Yago is the story and Flavio Medina. Anything else is a bonus! :)
Good night, everyone! I will check in tomorrow morning to see if there are more volunteers to recap Yago. Cheers :)
Catch you guys later! Night! :)
I sadly can't recap (even if I wanted to) but will look forward to lovely recaps from Carays lovely writers!
Gaby de la Garza is in televisa too now. Hmmm. I guess TV Azteca will just import Turkish and maybe Brazilian stories at some point because all their people have jumped ship and they are all getting employment at Televisa. That said I think Gaby worked in Cadena Tres too and maybe other network as well before this. Her biggest hit is still Cadena Tres' "Las Aparicio".
Manuel Ojeda is in always in these type of revenge stories now as part of the package, heh.

I know Yago is a remake of a Turkish novela, and that the Count of Monte Cristo is a very common story to use in telenovelas, but the whole face change and mood of the trailer reminded me alot of Infames, which was a very popular telenovela from Cadena Tres about a woman who escapes prison and thanks to the help of a powerful inmate she gets a surgery to change her appearance and changes her ID to uncover the plot that killed her fiancé, got her in jail for his death and turns out to be part of a bigger plot to control the Mexican government and eventually get the Secretary of Treasury to the Presidential chair. This reminds of that, except without the political part of the story. Here's a promo of Infames.

I believe that Gaby de La Garza was briefly in the Netflix show, Narcos too. I don't remember which role she played but that show was a hoot too. I wonder how Ivan will fit in the role, I can't stand when he grits his teeth. The original actor and actress were awarded the Butterfly awards for Best Actors so I hope that the Spanish counterparts deliver on that.
Jarocha- The promos and story have reminded me a bunch of Infames! Particularly because it seems that the former love was in on the scam to frame the hero. That's a particular twist to the CofM story that these two have in common.
In any case, I will give this one a try, but won't be recapping.
If this is like the Count of Monte Cristo and Infames, it's odd that it'll air at 9 p.m. on the east coast because Univision has been airing the more "sophisticated" TNs, like Hotel and YNCELH, at the 10 o'clock hour.
-- TomBoy, Steve, Cathyx, Count, Susanlynn, Vivi, UA, Niecie: I'm very happy to see that you'll be joining the fun! So many familiar faces with strong opinions and a wonderful sense of humor.
-- Jarocha: It's always pleasure to have you pop in and provid us with useful information about the TN industry. Thank you for th info about Gabriela de la Garza and for the promo of the show "Infames". I am not familiar with it but the story is intriguing.
-- Niecie: Regarding your question, I believe, and this is just speculation on my part, that since EHDLS has struggled quite a bit against Telemundo's "El Señor de los Cielos" at 10 pm, Univision moved her much-awaited TN (not by me) with the very popular Boyer-Rulli star couple (I don't care much for them) to 10 pm to reclaim that time slot. They are expected the new Boyer-Rulli vehicle to kill at the ratings so we'll just have to waut and see whether their gamble pays off or no.
-- Count: The Yago episodes are of regular length, 42 to 45 minutes.
I kind of expect it to be a different kind of monster.
About Tres Vecec I am not sure whether it is going to kill anything. Rulli and Boyer together again feels gris.
I actually haven't seen the original Ezel, but I did look up the actress who played Sara on it, and you are right about the resemblance between her and Gabriela de la Garza.
I'm ready for the premiere of Yago tonight. Just a couple more hours until 9PM.
Nandicta: If you ever do watch Infames, be warned, it's not your typical telenovela, it gets very dark. It was a huge hit here among the urban areas because it took place at the National Palace, which is where the executive branch offices are, and it had alot of references to real life political events and scandals of the last few years.
Steve: it IS cutthroat, and bleak, but fun.
About Tres Veces Ana, I can't say I'm not intrigued. If only to see what changes they made to the story. I was obsessed with the original as a kid, just like everybody else I knew. My sister got the soundtrack as a birthday gift from out parents that year (she was six years old!) and we'd play the main theme every day. We both liked María Fernanda the best, although the most popular at school was María Paula and my mom's favorite was María Guadalupe because she liked the romance with Luis José Santander, but I thought he looked too old for her and I liked Juan Manuel Bernal better because he was sweet and I thought Gerardo and María Fernanda were adorable (I really can't see Zepeda in that role).

I watched this TN as a kid (dubbed in Arabic though). My favorite was María Guadalupe and I had a crush on José Luis Santander and his leather vests. Later, when I got the chance to watch "Lazos de Amor" in Spanish, it brought back a lot of wonderful memories, and even though the story is really slow-paced, the secondary characters were very enjoyable (El Gordo, Geno, The Professor and that lady who dressed like Doris Day were among my favorites). Angelli Nesma should stop butchering Carla Estrada's work and leave these beloved classics alone. La Boyer doesn't have Lucero actoral abilities to give each of these triplets a distinct tone and personality. Zepeda doesn't have what it takes to convey Juan Manuel Bernal's kindness and sweetness (without appearing corny). Rulli does not have the charisma that Luis José Santander infused in his role, nor does he have that sexy deep voice and venezolano accent. Merrrcy!
I might tune in for the first few episodes, like you, just out of curiosity but what I saw in the promos and the changes I read about does not augur well. Why couldn't one of the sisters be blind, like in the original? Televisa's supposedly best actress can't play a blind young woman? Why have Rulli be the love interest of two sisters? Must he really get all this extra airtime for extra shirtless and smooching scenes with his real-life partner? It's all very cheesy and déclassé if you ask me.
As for casting a young hot model to play the uncle's role, the role interpreted by the great Otto Sirgo in the original... No comment.
Cheers for stopping by, Jarocha. Hope to have the chance to watch a TN with you soon. :)
Rulli is playing a completely new character from what I can tell, he is definitely not playing Luis José Santander's role. I actually like him but I can't picture him in that kind of role, Rulli is best when his characters are more serious and sort of stuck up, he has a serious face (which I do quite fancy). Santander in that role was a charmer, very animated and fun. I don't mind seeing him with Angelique again, since they do have great chemistry but this is one telenovela and roles I can't see either of them in. Now, this actually has me more intrigued about how Nesma will try and make their characters work.
I thought Zepeda was playing Orlando Miguel's role. He was so hot back then, much more than Zepeda right now, that I was going to complain but accept it since that's a role that fits Zepeda in my mind. Him playing Juan Manuel Bernal's role is just so odd that I have no idea what to think.
My sister still has that CD somewhere in our parents' house, she painted Lucero's faces with a red crayon and the case is broken. As much as I loved that theme music, it still comes third in my prefered telenovela themes by Lucero:
1st. Los Parientes Pobres
2nd. Cuando Llega el Amor.
3rd. Lazos de Amor.
