Refugio Para el Amor #62-63 Mon 7/9/12 Rod and Luci Cry, Lie, and Say Goodbye

Rod knocks on Luci’s door late at night, wearing a tight thermal underwear top and a scowl. She wants to know what he’s doing there. Luci thought they had nothing to talk about. Your recapper hopes he’s come to beg for forgiveness on his knees. But, oh no! Hot Head Rod is just there to continue to be stupid and accusatory.  He *says* he wants to end things like “civilized” people by talking (you know that thing he wouldn’t let Luci do earlier).
L: If our relationship (lo nuestro) is over, then it’s over, period (y punto). There’s nothing to talk about. Especially if it’s not important to you.
R: Yes it’s important to me.  Very much so. And that’s why I asked you if all the accusations against you are true, and you confirmed it.

Luci says that much of what was said was true, but she’s no thief (ratera). She’s never stolen anything from anyone. “And what about your brother, Lorenzo!?”  Luci says they are not talking about her brother, they are talking about them. Rod then contradicts himself by saying they have nothing to talk about. Luci wants to know, then why the hell did he come?
R: I came to say goodbye to you. (a despedir me de ti) To tell you that you are the woman I had (notice the tense) loved most in my entire life.
L: I didn’t once love you. (She uses the past tense, then grabs his face.) I LOVE you! (present tense) You are what I most love in this world. Please.
Rod removes her hands from his face then turns his back to her. She says she’s going for the box of things he gave her, since there is no reason to keep anything of his. While she’s in the back, he sits on the couch and sees the infamous magazine. He picks it up and works himself up into a fury again.

In Boston, Max has tucked Pato into bed and tells Hannah she can’t come for the operation but Rosa needs to be there tomorrow. Now that her dirty business of disgracing the love of her son’s life is over, Rosa has no problem going out of town to support her other son during a major, life-changing operation. Rosa knows how to set her priorities. Max wants to speak with Rod too, but he’s been MIA and Max hasn’t been able to locate him. Rosa plays dumb. She’ll relay the news to him. Once she’s off the phone, Boris tries to wish her farewell with a kiss on the cheek, but she dodges him like he has the plague. (I guess it’s not just poor people cooties she hates.) Just to stick it to her mama, Hannah gives Boris a quick farewell kiss, on the lips. Connie smiles at the young lovers. Rosa gets mighty annoyed and tells Hannah to sit her teenaged butt down.

Connie and Hannah start to question Rosa about what went down between her, Julie, Rod and Luci that afternoon.  Rosa plays dumb. Connie pushes. “What did you do Rosalena?” Rosa tells Connie not to play the saint and make her out to be a witch. (If the curled toe shoe fits Rosa…) She gets worked up and says they just unmasked Luci, that’s all. She says she didn’t do anything. Rod just learned Luci’s dirty past. Then she throws a tantrum and leaves the table before Connie can ask any more questions.  Connie turns to Mati for answers, but she knows nothing since she was locked up in the elevator. Connie can’t believe this. Mati tells her to ask Frigida and Connie makes a bee line for the kitchen. She tells Frigida not to act stupid (mensa). She knows something went down and Frgida was neck deep in it. Connie doesn’t buy this mysterious accident of Mati getting locked in the elevator. She warns Frigida that if she finds out she was involved, she will herself throw Frigida’s belongings out on the streets after she talks to Max and Rod. She better ask Gala or Julie for a job and see if they are as loyal to her as she has been to them! With that, Ms. Connie sashays out of the kitchen and Frigida looks mighty worried. “They’re going to fire me.” (Me van a correr.)

Julie and Gala arrive home as Julie gives Gala the news that the domestica (drink!) has been run off and Rod ran after her. Julie tells her how angry Rod was, and what he needs most now is Gala’s solace (consuelo). Gala plays it cool though. She knows it’s not the right timing for her cling-wrap act.

When Luci comes out with the box of gifts, Hot Head Rod is ready for Round 2 of his screaming match with her. He holds the magazine up in an accusatory way and goes on and on about how she told him she had never received it. She says she isn’t going to try to defend herself. What for, if he’s not going to believe her?  She shoves the box at him and tells him to look through it to make sure everything is there. He slams the box on the coffee table and says he’s not interested in it or anything in it. Well, neither is she. She then tells him to give it to Gala, since she knows he wants to run to her. He says he does not. Then he demands that she throw the magazine in the trash and shoves it at her. They continue their stare down and she tells HIM to throw it away, or he can just give it to his mama to add to her collection. (Oh, snap!) She walks away from him and turns her back. He tosses the magazine angrily and says he’s leaving. He then hesitates and comes back to look at her back longingly. Then he changes his mind again and goes to leave. Luci calls his name just before he exits. She offers him back her ring. He stares at it with tears in his eyes, but does not take it back. He’s stepping through the door just as Lorenzo steps in. Rod immediately asks him about the $30,000 pesos. Lorenzo asks if they know already, and stares at Luci in shock. At the same time, Rod stare daggers at Luci, as one more of her “lies” has been confirmed. Luci can’t believe that yet another big anvil has fallen on her unsuspecting head. She falls into Lorenzo’s arms weeping.

Vio is working at Inferno, but her head is elsewhere. Polo notices that she’s down (achicopalada). She doesn’t want to tell him what’s wrong, but he knows it has to do with Marcial. Vio makes a disparaging remark about all men, even though she has a fantastic one who really loves her standing right in front of her.

At the apartment, Lorenzo is on his knees in front of Luci (where we would have liked to see Rod earlier), talking fast to explain about the whole gambling chips/Aldo/lost $30,000 pesos situation. Luci tells him he shouldn’t have done it or given in to Aldo.  At the end of the day, it was still Lorenzo who committed the crime. Lorenzo explains that he returned the money. Luci loses it. What was the use when the damage was already done?! What is she going to tell their mother?!! How is she going to tell her that her wedding has been cancelled? She plops onto the couch in a puddle of tears. Lorenzo goes over to her to comfort her. If Rod is throwing all that they had away without even giving her a chance to explain things, then he doesn’t love her as much as he says. (Amen!) It’s better that it happened now, than after they got married (by the Church).

Hannah tells Connie that Rod is not answering her calls. She’s worried. Connie is more hopeful that it means he is thinking things over, which will result in him working things out with Luci. Connie is sure that Julie and Gala are behind it all. Hannah is really worried about what to tell Pato, but Connie says that’s Rosa’s job. Hannah begs Connie to speak to Rosa to figure out what happened. Connie refuses because she knows she’ll just end up trying to rip the blonde hairs out of her crazy sister’s head if they argue. Plus, Rosa is sick. Hannah thinks it’s totally unfair what her mother has done to Luci, and Luci doesn’t deserve it. Connie totally agrees. Hannah asks Connie if she knows why Rosa hates Luci so much. Connie admits that she knows, but she can’t say since it’s a secret between her and her sister Rosa.

Hot Head Rod is in his apartment having a pity party for one. He pulls out the booze and glasses, turns on the weepy muzak, takes out an innocent lamp with his liquor glass, and…hey now! Listen Rod, I don’t care if you take your shirt off, for no discernable reason, and flex your well developed pecs at me as you weep and gnash your teeth in anguish. I will not be swayed by your manly, chiseled, sculpted physique! You are still dead to me.

Luci is having a more dignified cry on her couch right at that moment as well.

Vio is telling Polo that when it rains it pours. Her and her man troubles. Luci with hers. And Lorenzo and the missing money and losing his job. Serena is shocked to hear Lorenzo lost his job and gets caught up on the gossip. Vio is sure Aldo will be showing up there soon since he loves to gamble.

However, Aldo is totally engulfed in the Inferno and Torreslanda accounts he’s hacked. He is impressed by how much money Uncle Max is raking in through both his above board and shady businesses. Oscar interrupts, surprised that Aldo is still at work so late. Aldo quickly closes his laptop and tells him he’s working on confidential business. Oscar is incredulous, but leaves him to it. “Until tomorrow, Mr. Impresario.”  Aldo realizes how late it is and calls Vicky to ask her out. She is fast asleep on the couch beside her cell phone. Aldo apologizes for being so late. She’s tired and begs off till tomorrow. They agree to dinner and then the Inferno tomorrow night.

Don Aquiles arrives at Inferno making his presence known to everyone. Vio is not happy to see him and tries to get Serena to serve him instead. Ivan, however, orders Vio to serve him. She accidently addresses him by name, and he wants to know how she knew his name. She covers by saying they all know the VIP customer names. He demands to know where Luci is and says he needs to talk to her. Vio claims not to know anything, but Lastra butts in and gives Aquiles Luci’s address, to show him that they’re friends.

In the Inferno office, happy Lastra is counting the money (and putting a little in his pocket too, I notice).  He nearly tells Ivan about his other relationship with Aquiles. As soon as Lastra leaves the office, Ivan slips some of the cash into his own pocket.  (I actually think Aldo is right that Max could benefit from him overseeing things at Inferno.)

Rod is good and drunk and decides to go somewhere. We know no good ever comes from a galan being drunk, angry, and lonely.

In Boston, Pato can’t sleep. He’s worried about the operation. Max gives him a pep talk. Pato has a strong will, and that is what will keep him going.

Luci is curled up asleep on her couch when there is yet another knock on her door. No, it’s not Drunk Hot Head Rod, ready for Round 3. Instead it’s Don Juan Aquiles, holding a single pink rose. Looking absolutely defeated by the cruel joke life has decided to play on her that never-ending day, Luci can only weakly ask what he’s doing there and lets him in. He’s come for her, says our geriatric Romeo. Luci says he’s just there to bug her and begs him to leave her in peace. “I’ve never done anything to you”, says Luci as she sits on a chair looking defeated. Don A just silently offers her the rose.

Over in a posher part of town, Gala is also getting an unexpected gentleman caller. It’s Drunk Hot Head Rod, flashing his angry man cleavage at her. “You and I are going to talk.”

Luci begs Aquiles to please understand that there is nothing he can get from her. Just leave her in peace. He gets on his knees in front of her. (The second man to do that tonight who is not Rod.) Aquiles says he’s forgiven her the family debt. She counters that she’s forgiven HIM for all he did to them. Don A wants to know what those chilangos have done to her to change her. This is what happened to her for getting involved with people who aren’t like them—small town folk. Luci yells at him that it isn’t his concern. He says of course it’s his concern. Even if she doesn’t care for him, for her, he’d do anything. Just tell him who put her in this weepy state, and he’ll go break their face right now!  Luci tells him it’s not necessary because she knows how to protect herself. He knows it. That’s why he loves her so much, because she’s such a spitfire. She will always be his Palomita. He agrees to go, but tells her if she needs anything to just tell him. He leaves the rose on the table, and walks out looking sad that his Palomita is so sad.

Rod is drunk, but he’s saying all the right things to Gala. (Maybe he should have spoken to Luci when he was drunk.) He accuses her of planning the whole thing and purposely filling his head with nonsense about Luci to break them up. She yells right back that it’s not her fault he married that class of woman. This gets Rod even more worked up and he grabs and shakes her, accusing her of planning the whole thing—getting him and Luci there at the right time in order to corner (acorralar) and trap Luci. Gala plays the victim to the hilt and says she won’t stand to be accused in this manner in her own home. She once again denies the blame and throws it all on his mama Rosa. Rod brings up the magazine article. Gala did it all to make Luci look like a slut (cualquiera). “I just did my job. And if that’s a sin, then condemn me. I knew nothing. Nothing! The only sin I committed was loving you as much as I do. And you humiliated me by ditching me at the altar! ” Rod tries to get them back to the issue at hand by saying that had nothing to do with what they’re talking about. (Hold on. If he thinks that what Gala has done to Luci has NOTHING to do with him dumping Gala on their wedding day, then running off to marry someone else, then he’s dumber than I thought.) Gala says that she nobly stepped aside and set him free to be with Luci- the SLUT!  Rod demands that she not call Luci that, but Gala is on a roll playing the victim. Luci doesn’t deserve his love, but she (Gala) has done everything for him. She loves him more than her own life and all he has done is humiliate and insult her. He is disrespecting her as a woman, and as a human being. Now that Gala has ground up the last of his pebbles into sand, Rod decides to leave, after giving Gala the happy news that he and Luci are in splitsville for good. Viewerville sees a trail of sand coming out of his pant leg. “I beat you domestica. (Drink!) I took Rod from you forever, forever.”

The next morning, Rosa is at the private airport early, looking like Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct, after she’s had the pleasure of a kill. Pato and Max wait for her eagerly in Boston. Pato is happy she will be there, and speaks about how one naturally feels at ease and protected when ill, when you have your mom and dad, like when you were a kid. Pato feels fortunate to have them both with him. This makes Max smile and he gives Pato a kiss. They leave for the hospital.

Hannah shows up at Rod’s apartment full of questions about what happened, if he’s spoken with Luci, and what’s happening with them. Rod refuses to answer any of her questions, but instead offers to take her to school. She informs him about Pato’s operation and their mother leaving for Boston.

Connie has Julie meet her for breakfast to get the lowdown on what happened with Luci and Rod. Julie plays innocent, but says it had to do with some man named Lastra who Luci was “involved” with (se entendian) before she began working for the family. “It was a surprise to everyone, but I always knew the kind of woman she was.” She then says that this is Rod’s concern and they shouldn’t interfere. Connie is not buying this b.s. She gives Julie a good hard stare.

Over at Vio’s, everyone is depressed. Lorenzo suggests to Luci that they tell their mother that the wedding is just postponed due to Pato’s health issues. Luci says she won’t lie to her mama. But she wants to go to the pueblo and tell her in person. Vio thinks she should hold off a bit, since she and Rod might make up soon. Luci says it’s over between them, especially after what happened last night (when he came to the apt.).  Lorenzo and Fabian make themselves scarce to go find work. Fabian already has a weekend gig with the mechanic on the corner. Lorenzo says he’s going to speak with Aldo to see if he can help him get a job. He goes to kiss her goodbye, but Luci stops him when she asks what’s going on with the formal charges against him (denuncia).  We, and Lorenzo, can tell she’s ticked off at her little bro. He hasn’t heard anything yet, but all he can do is take the bull by the horns and face the consequences.

Luci and Vio talk about how they came to the big city for work, thinking that things would be easier than in the pueblo, but they’re worse off- both she and Lorenzo have no work or money. Vio tells her about Don Aquiles having her address now. Luci says he already found her, but he left when she asked him to. Luci breaks down and says she now knows how her mom felt when her dad died. She feels so alone. Vio thinks that after a while Rod will regret it and come back to her. “And what about what I feel?  Do you think that I’m going to wait for him to forgive me all my life?”

Rod comes to work full of attitude. He asks the secretary to bring him lots of water, in an attempt to get rid of his hangover. Marcos and Gabriel tease him because they think he’s been celebrating, but soon they and Oscar realize that Rod is in a foul mood. They want to finalize a few things for a meeting that will take place when he’s supposed to be on honeymoon. He informs them there will be no honeymoon, or wedding. The guys are in shock.

Vio and Luci lament the heartache and disappointment they will bring their mamas when they find out about their disgrace—lying, working at Inferno, not being a nurse, and cancelled wedding. Vio asks about Luci returning the box of gifts. Luci explains about Rod refusing to accept it, then looks daggers at Vio when she suggests that Luci keep it. Luci’s going to send it to his apt. She doesn’t want anything that reminds her of him. (I notice that she is back to her cute pueblo clothes and ballet flats.) She doesn’t yet know what she’s going to do. Estella knocks and tells Luci her mama’s on the phone. Luci looks like she’s walking the plank as she follows Estella to her apartment.

The guys at the office think Rod must mean they have just postponed the wedding. He tells them it is cancelled, and gives no further explanation.

On the phone, Luci tries to distract her mom by asking about Ariche. She’s struggling to hold back tears and to keep her voice even. Paz tells Luci that she needs to have a serious talk with Rod. Luci starts getting nervous. “Why? What did he do?” Paz explains that Rod sent her a huge money transfer/wire (giro). Paz can’t accept money from Luci’s husband. Luci gets worked up and tells her mom not to accept a cent of that money. Paz had no intention of doing so. Luci apologizes because she knows her mama wouldn’t do that. Paz asks when she and Rod are coming to get her, Magda and Ariche. Luci almost totally loses it. She starts crying silently, but then changes her mind about truth telling. She gives her mama Lorenzo’s story about postponing the wedding until after Pato’s surgery and recovery. Paz then asks if Lorenzo is ok and if he’s gotten himself in any trouble. Luci lies to her mama again and says everything is hunky dory. Then she rushes off the phone. Paz gives her the blessing, but when she hangs up she tells Theo that Luci sounded really sad (tristona) and out of it (apagada) to her. A mother knows when something bad has happened to their child. She asks Theo if she can come back later to make another call. It’s no problem for big cuddly Theo-bear.

Luci fondles her wedding ring and cries.

Frigida is showing Mati the magazine and saying that Luci deserved what she got. Mati says her poor Luci didn’t deserve this or the way she’s been treated since she got to this house. Frigida tells her to watch her tone, since the person behind it is HER patrona, who happens to be Mati’s patrona too. Frigida tries to threaten that Mati will get her butt fired if she keeps speaking this way about Rosa. Mati sets her straight. Frigida shouldn’t even dare think that she can come between Mati and her niña Rosa.  She’s known her since she was born. The first one out the door would be Frigida, not Mati.  Well, if you know her so well and love her so much, you wouldn’t be making those comments against her behind her back.”  (Yeah Mati, time to start saying this stuff to Rosa’s face.)

Rod calls Max, who’s in the hospital waiting room with Rosa, and gets the Pato update. They are still doing tests today, so the operation will be tomorrow, first thing in the morning. Rod says he’s going to Boston to be with his brother. Max then asks if he wants to speak with his mama. Rod gives a firm no.  He’ll call later to talk to Pato. After he hangs up, Rosa rushes up to Max and nervously asks what Rod told him. She realizes that he didn’t want to speak to her.

Rod relays the news to the office guys, that he’s going to Boston (instead of trying to rescue his marriage to Luci). Marcos and Gabriel are open-mouthed impactados. Oscar springs up in disgust and leaves Rod’s office.

Gala and her assistant are looking over layouts for the next edition of the magazine. Gala doesn’t like the photos. They aren’t as impactful as the last issue. The assistant agrees that the last edition was quite popular. It sold record numbers. Valentina and Fernanda come in to take Gala out to lunch and to get the most updated Rod-Luci gossip. Gala happily tells them that Rod and Luci are broken up for good, and she heard it straight from the horse’s ass’s mouth (Rod). He came to her apartment like a wounded animal. He was destroyed. He and Luci are NEVER getting back together. Valentina wisely tells Gala to never say never, about Rod and Luci making up. “Ya Valentonta! Ya!” (LOL! If I actually hated Vale, I would use Gala’s clever nickname for her.) Gala tells her to leave and make her comments elsewhere, if she’s going to continue to make sense. But Gala will not let her ruin her day. She gloats that Luci made this all so easy by keeping silent about all this stuff. She dug her own grave.

Speaking of graves, the cemetery caretaker is digging up a few in order to get and plant those baby clothes in Aurora’s tomb, on Rosa’s orders.

Luci looks over her secondary school enrollment/exams papers, when with perfect timing, Hannah and Melissa show up at her door. They want to know what happened and why she and Rod fought.

In the Boston hospital waiting room, Max is wondering if Luci will come to Boston, since it would do Pato good to have her there. Rosa snippily asks why it would be important to her. (Uhm, maybe because it has to do with your son’s well-being!) She coldly says he should ask Rod, while she flips through a magazine. Max looks at her like she has two heads. Then he suggests that since they are in this good hospital, they should get her a check up to try to figure out what is impeding her from being happy. She’s saved from having to think up a good come back when her phone rings. It’s the cemetery caretaker telling her the job is done. Since her policy is to block all the bad things SHE has done from her mind so that she can play the saint, this call upsets her apple cart. She starts yelling at the man that she doesn’t want to hear it or know about it! She’ll call him later. Max is mighty perplexed about all of this. He demands to know who she was speaking with who upset her so much (alterar).  “What are you plotting (tramando) now Rosalena?!” She refuses to respond, and Max grabs her arm and demands an answer. She reminds him where they are, and says it’s not the place nor the time for an argument.
M: You are my wife and you owe me respect. I am getting tired of you plotting things all on your own.  You’ve shown me that you’re not worthy of my trust.
R: And are you (worthy of my trust)? After what you did to Claudio Linares? Have you forgotten?
M: That’s in the past!  You keep digging it up to make my life impossible/give me a hard time.
R: Well we’ll see if life is the same when the truth about the fraud is discovered!
The doctor interrupts to give them the update on Pato, who has also come out with him. Everything  is ready for the surgery tomorrow, and Pato needs lots of rest beforehand. Max leaves with the doctor to get more details. Rosa reiterates to Pato that he needs to rest. Pato agrees, but he would have liked for Rod and Luci to be there. “You don’t need them! Neither of them!” (Bitch.) She then tells him he made this decision to have the surgery on his own, and it will go well. Pato knows, but is sad that he will miss Rod and Luci’s wedding. He would have so liked to share in Rod’s happiness and see Luci looking beautiful in her wedding dress. Rosa says nothing and looks constipated.

H&M haven’t gotten far in getting info out of Luci. Like Rod, all she says is that they broke up. Melissa doesn’t believe there’s nothing more to it. They wouldn’t have just gotten angry at each other, just like that. They’re already married, and a simple quarrel (pleito) wouldn’t put an end to that. Luci admits it wasn’t a simple quarrel. She shows them the magazine and admits the cover girl is her. Hannah is livid that they would do this to Luci. Luci explains that they threw the accusations at her in such a way that she couldn’t defend herself. She can’t understand how they even got photos since she doesn’t remember taking any and was only there one night. Melissa explains that those places have security cameras which made it easy for them to capture images of her. Melissa has it all figured out. All of this was planned by Gala and Julie, with support from Auntie Rosa. Hannah asks what the heck is wrong with her mother. She never thought she would go this far. She apologizes to Luci. “She’s always hated me, and if I gave her reasons to hate me more, well it’s even worse.”  Melissa takes Luci’s hands and asks how they can help. Luci is completely defeated. They can’t help. Her marriage is over. Melissa thinks Rod is just confused and will soon reconsider (recapacitar). Hannah thinks their love is too great to be defeated.  Melissa hugs Luci.

At the office, Gabriel and Marcos browbeat Rod into having dinner at his place that night. His cell phone rings and it cute as a button Ariche wanting to talk to his buddy Rod. He remembers the vow he made to Ariche to take care of Luci, and takes hold of the ball Ariche gifted him. (I hope the guilt is starting to sink in.) Ariche asks when Rod is coming for them for the wedding, and we have a repeat of the Luci-Paz conversation. He tells Ariche they have delayed the wedding for Pato’s operation and recuperation. Ariche agrees to wait, but tells him not to be too long. He’s already got his new sandals and white clothes for the wedding. Ariche asks Rod to pass the phone to Luci. Rod explains that Luci isn’t there with him. Ariche asks Rod to tell Luci that he loves her and misses her, and he loves and misses Rod too. (I really hope that guilt is sinking in deep.) “Adios amigo!” Rod tells Ariche that he loves him too. After he hangs up, Ariche happily continues his flute lessons with Theo-bear. (Is there a good young woman in Het Het for Theo? I am really starting to like the big guy.) Rod meanwhile cries into the ball, then angrily takes his copy of the magazine and rips it to shreds.

Julie, Gala, Valentina and Fernanda have gone out for a celebratory lunch. Julie has ordered champagne for them all, and Valentina, ever the ditsy voice of wisdom, asks why Julie always drinks champagne. Julie answers that there is an infinite limit to the amount of champagne she can drink. She’s always celebrating being alive. Gala is happy picturing how destroyed that domestica (drink!) must be.  Valentina (bless her heart), asks why they keep calling Luci la domestica, when she no longer is. Gala says because that’s what she is, that’s what she’ll go back to being. The only thing she knows how to do is to scrub (fregar) floors, and pester (fregar) people.  (Oh, Gala. You are so clever.) Julie just wants her to go already, to her pueblo or to another continent. Valentina, who is living up to the meaning of her name, bravely points out that they shouldn’t say domestica with such scorn, because domestic workers are the most important people in a house. Julie has them toast to that.

Mati calls Estella. Estella reports that Luci told her mom that she and Rod are postponing the wedding for now.  Mati doesn’t like this one bit. She’s coming to Estella’s that afternoon because she has to speak with Luci.

Upstairs, Hannah is telling Luci that she is her sister-in-law, and no matter what, they are family. She begs her not to forget that. Melissa tells her to think about what they said, and not to lose the opportunity to clear things up with Rod. Luci says he won’t listen and starts to freak out. Hannah recommends that she go speak to Padre Honesto who can help calm her down. Luci thanks them both. Just then, Vio comes in. She starts spoiling for a fight when she sees H&M, wrongly assuming that they have come to give Luci a hard time and are taking the b/witches’ side. They ignore her and Melissa tells Luci that she hopes soon Rod realizes what an amazing woman she is. Melissa hugs her and Luci bursts into tears. Hannah strokes her hair.

Aldo is in his office/closet on the phone berating the security desk for not letting his friends Lorenzo and Fabian up to see him. Apparently he doesn’t have authorization to allow visitors. Aldo angrily calls Oscar who confirms that he doesn’t have authorization. But isn’t he the manager of corporate services (glorified office supplies manager)? Oscar says he’ll tell security to let his friends up.

H&M are outside of Luci’s apartment lamenting the whole situation. Melissa says men are so reactive/hot-headed (viscerales) and Rod is no different. Hannah thinks it’s so not cool (mala onda) for Rod to believe those b/witches over Luci. Neither one of them believes Gala’s story that she didn’t plan it all and just wants Rod to know the truth. Melissa knows Gala was behind it all, and says they will prove it to Rod. Hannah doesn’t think it’s fair that Luci is suffering like this, but Melissa points out that Rod is likely suffering too (through his own stupidity). “And you know what? We’re going to see to it that he suffers more.”

Lorenzo tells Aldo about Ivan and Lastra being serious about having him thrown in jail. Aldo tells him not to worry. He’ll take care of it. Fabian wants to know how he thinks he’s going to control Lastra. He’s not going to speak to Lastra. He’s going to speak to the owner of Inferno. Oscar interrupts and Aldo introduces them. Oscar only stays long enough to tell Aldo to please wear a tie (corbata). He takes a call from Connie. They make plans to have lunch.

Luchita is telling the gossip ladies that she is missing Don Aquiles.  He’s a manly man, who a woman can’t forget, like Pedro Armendáriz. (She’s likely talking about P.A. Sr., but it made me think of P.A. Jr. whom we just lost.  RIP Don Pedro!) The gossip ladies aren’t sold on the comparison, but Luchita says they don’t know him *intimately* like she does. It hurts her that he’s gone chasing after his Palomita.

Paz breaks the news of the postponed wedding to Magda, who is bummed. Paz isn’t worried about that so much, but she has a bad feeling, like a sadness or anguish deep in her soul. A mother is never wrong. They decide to put away their wedding dresses so that they don’t get dusty.

Genaro runs into the house after Frigida offering to help her with the groceries. Instead of thanking him, she berates him for not calling her Señorita (an understandable error) and for offering too late. Nice guy Genaro helps her anyway. Connie tells Mati that she won’t be having lunch at home, so it looks like no one will be there for the meal. Once Frigida is out of earshot, Connie reminds Mati that they are the only ones who know Rosa’s secret, and they can’t allow her to hurt Luci. If Rod and Luci break up because of Rosa, then she’s going to tell Rod and Luci the truth. Mati doesn’t like hearing this. (Oh, how I wish to slap her.) “We promised.” Connie acknowledges that they promised to keep quiet about Rosa’s past crime, but that doesn’t mean they should keep quiet about these new injustices. They can no longer allow it. Mati doesn’t look convinced.

Luci meets with Padre Honesto in his office and tells him the wedding is off. She tells him everything—her father’s death, the debt, Don Aquiles, her flight to D.F. Padre thinks it was destiny that brought her to D.F., but what does this have to do with breaking up with Rod? Luci continues to explain about being desperate for work and taking a job she shouldn’t have at Inferno, Rod defending her without recognizing her, meeting Rod and Pato in Het Het before, and Lastra’s accusations of theft. “Damn girl. You’ve had sh*tty luck!” (OK. The good Padre didn’t say it *exactly* like that, but that’s what he meant.) Luci explains that it was after all of this that she began working at Casa Torreslanda. Padre asks if she explained all of this to Rod. Nope. Rosa and Gala took it upon themselves to do so, adding pictures and false accusations of theft. She swears to the Padre that she never stole anything. The Padre is not stupid like Rod, so of course he doesn’t believe it, but he points out to Luci that none of this would have happened had she just been up front with Rod from the get go. Luci agrees that she didn’t do things as she should have. Of course Rod walks in right at that moment, just in time to hear Luci say: “I wasn’t sincere with Rodrigo. I deceived him. (engañar) Now I don’t know what to do.” Padre hugs her. Rod gets angry all over again. He makes his presence known by saying good afternoon only to the Padre. He gives Luci an angry glare.

In Boston (we know it’s the U.S. because some Black actors have been dropped into the background), Pato, Max and Rosa have lunch. Pato wants to talk to his siblings. Rosa tells them not to call Hannah, who should be busy in classes. (More like she will blab about what her mama did.) Max decides to call Rod instead, and both he and Pato hope that Luci is with him. Rosa stares coldly into the distance.

Padre Honesto explains to Rod that Luci is telling him how they met. Rod rudely cuts him off and says he knows the story already. He doesn’t have time to listen to him right now because he’s in a hurry. Luci wants to know why he came then. He says to tell the Padre that they are changing the date of their wedding. Luci pushes him to just tell the Padre the truth-- that there will be no wedding. They stare daggers at each other. Rod’s phone rings. Max tells him that Pato is eager to speak to him and Luci. Is she with him? Uhm…Rod looks over to Luci and says they are with Padre Honesto. Max relays this news to Pato and Rosa. Rosa’s eyes go wide. (What could be going on in that crazy brain of hers right now? “Oh crap! Did they make up? Are they telling Padre what I did? Is Padre telling them what I did long ago?”)

Genaro helps Mati put the groceries away while Frigida bitches at them, while doing nothing. Mati asks Genaro to take her to her sister’s place. Frigida thinks that Mati is skiving off while the patrona is away, and surely she is just going to see Luci to get the gossip. Mati ignores her, takes Genaro’s arm, and leaves. Frigida is freaked about being left all alone in the house. She immediately calls Gala to report that Mati went to see Luci. Gala doesn’t give a flying fig. What she does want Frigida to pay attention to are calls from Boston, because Pato could sway Rod back to Luci.

H&M go back to the bridal shop and say they have come to buy the dress Luci tried on, and they want to have it delivered.

At lunch, Julie is ready to plan Gala’s second attempt at a wedding with Rod. They could have it on a yacht! Gala says she doesn’t want to pressure Rod; she wants to give him time. Valentina says that’s wise, otherwise Rod might ditch her at the altar yet again. Gala’s and Julie’s smiles turn upside down. Valentina wants to know why they’re looking at her like that, since she’s right. Julies says of course she is NOT right. This time Rod WILL marry Gala. Gala says she needs to think of a plan to give Rod a little push (in her direction). Julie is all for planning/plotting. She points out that she and Gala make a great team.  For now, she offers a champagne toast to Luci and Rod’s failed wedding. Just then, Connie and Oscar walk in. “Are we interrupting or can we join your celebration?”Julie tells them to sit. Oscar looks at Connie like he can’t believe she’s gotten them into this situation.

Paz heads to Don Serapio’s to call Luci and Lorenzo. She hopes to speak to Lorenzo this time since he is no good at lying to her. Magda goes too, in hopes of speaking to Vio.

Rod tells Pato that Luci is with him and asks about plans for the operation. Pato is optimistic. Rod says he will be there first thing in the morning. “And Luci? Is she coming with you?” Rosa’s eyes go as wide as saucers. Rod says he hasn’t spoken to Luci about it. Pato wants to speak with her. Before he hands over the phone, Rod begs Luci not to tell Pato about what’s going on. Pato tells Luci he would like it so much if she came with Rod. Luci makes the excuse that she doesn’t have travel papers (passport, visa, etc.). Pato thinks they can have that taken care of with Max’s contacts in the embassy. Max is taking mental note and seems to be ready to do what it takes. Rosa looks like she’s seen a ghost. Luci is flustered and leaves the room to continue the conversation. She tells Pato that she doesn’t want to cause trouble with such a complicated process. In all likelihood, she won’t be there with him, but she promises that she will light a candle for him and pray to the Virgin for him. Pato says hearing her say this makes him feel more at peace.

Meanwhile, Padre is begging Rod to come back and speak with him about Luci. That’s why he came, but he doesn’t think it’s the right moment with Luci here. Padre wants to know if he’s already forgotten the talk they had about TRUST. Rod says he hasn’t forgotten, but it’s obvious that Luci has. Luci walks back into the room and gives the phone back to Rod. He continues to speak to Pato. Luci tells Padre she’ll come back another day. In any case, Rod has already told him that there will be no wedding. Padre asks her to wait. Luci rushes out in tears, and for a second it looks like Rod will rush after her. Pato tells Rod that he’s the luckiest man in the world to have a woman like Luci at his side. She’ll make him happy the rest of the days of his life. Rosa gets her crazy eyes. Rod looks guilty.

Avances: Gala and Julie make another plan. Rod tells Pato that Luci lied to them. Paz tells someone on the phone that she's the one Rosa gave the baby to. Rod cries into Luci's wedding dress. Luci faints into H&M's arms.

Amorcito Corazón Discussion #44-53 July 9-13

PSA: Julia the Most Awesome has started a list of compound words. We will add to it as compounds arise. I took the liberty of adding words for "unibrow."

Now the episode. Things felt a little slow today, but Willy continues to make me laugh.
The big events in a nutshell:

  • Horty and Manuela are still clawing at each other. Horty wants Manuela to leave, and Manuela wants to stay. Horty thinks the threat of telling 'Nando about Manuela's involvement in Sofia's death will keep Manuela in line. Manuela thinks there is a flaw in that reasoning. Won't 'Nando get mad a Horty for withholding the truth about Sofia's death?
  • I missed a very important conversation between Ceci and Felipe. It seems Felipe has a history with Manuela/has always had the hots for her. What was the bit about the tattoo?
  • Cecilio gets Moncho and Juancho freed from jail. There were no fingerprints on the M&Ms, so it couldn't have been their property.
  • Babs continues to be a threat. She makes moves on Juancho, but he resists. I think he knows what's going on and is a little creeped out by it (I may be projecting.)
  • Sor Ernestina thinks Lucia should leave the habit for a while to get her feelings straight. Willy is over the moon because now he thinks he and Lucia can be together. Lucia doesn't think so. We finally get to see Lucía looking like a knockout. 'Nando asks Lucía to stay at his place while he's in Puerta Vallarta.
  • There's a dinner party from hell. Felipe and Zoe invite Isa, 'Nando and Cecilio over to dine...and so Ceci can meet Zoe. Ruh roh. It isn't pretty. Felipe is kept in the dark, but Zoe confesses to Isa that Ceci is her ángel and Ceci confesses to 'Nando that Zoe is his "estupida suicida." Ceci is going to back off. He even tells Felipe he wants to dissolve the partnership (?) and move away from the DF.
  • Guillermina makes up stories about robbery(?) She still needs money to keep the PI on the case. She decides to sell a ring and puts Héctor (her lover?) in charge of getting a good price. Ha ha, Héctor sells the ring to Jaibo's woman and then tells Guillermina he was robbed!
  • Did I hear correctly? Did Manuela actually tell Marifer that the asthma was all in her head?????  Seriously dangerous.
  • 'Nando overhears a phone conversation and flips his lid. (He really needs to chill.) Marisol enlists her little sisters' help in seeing  Juancho. While the family and Mine are away, Juancho comes to call and they start making out pretty heavily....and Isa walks in.
Other entertainments:
  • Sarita is not happy about the trip to Puerta Vallarta and is not talking to Isa....sort of.
  • Leo continues to feel like crap. His doctor is going to adjust his meds.
  • Reina and Jazmin have a conversation and get snippy with Willy and I think I missed a  William Levy joke. The two pregnant ladies are very sweet to Lucía and bring her clothes.
  • Padre Tio punches Willy and tells him to leave Lucia alone.
  • Suzy is crushing on Felipe.

Abismo de pasión #83 7/6/12: A Tale of Two (Very Different) Family Reunions

Alternate Titles

Maldita Carmina!
Damien and Elisa Return Home

Casa de Castanon Foyer “Elisa is your daughter!”  Don Lucio hands the DNA documentation to his stunned friend.  Agosto takes the paper, and after reviewing it, calmly walks over to his wife.  Maybe it was the faux calmness in his manner or his soothing voice that prompted her to stand there like an idiot.   Some fools do not sense danger.  She irrationally tries to justify the deception to her husband.  Carmina did it to defend their love; she didn’t want to lose him.  She goes on to say that she told him that Elisa wasn’t his so that he would forget Estefania.  She mentions how she got someone in Meridia to falsify the DNA results.  Agosto intently listens to her “reasoning” and then promptly bitch slaps her.  At first I thought we were dealing with a standard pimp slap, but after gleefully reviewing the scene several times and at several different angles, the judges determined that what had occurred was indeed the bitch slap method.  It was magnificent!  They gave him 9 out of 10 points.  Anyways, Lucio and Padre, quickly restrain the now ballistic Agosto in order to keep him from killing his wife.  Lucio tells Agosto to calm down and implores him not to be violent.  Things are not solved this way!  (Yeah, but it must have felt great to have smacked the hell out of her.  I’ve been dying to do it since episode 25 when I first started recapping this show).   Agosto tells Carmina to get the hell out of his house.  Unfortunately, the men don’t allow him to touch her.  He would have received a perfect score if he had slapped her again.  Agosto vacates the area, but before leaving, he tells her that she better be gone by tomorrow.  She begs him not to put her out because she loves him and has nowhere else to go.  She “ugly cries” as she turns to the camera.  Don Lucio follows Agosto.  No one feels sorry for her, not even the priest.  Father Lupe picks up the discarded DNA paper and walks over to Carmina and rubs it in some more.  Carmina tells him to leave her in peace.  Lupe tells her that he won’t leave her alone until she tells the truth and nothing but the truth.  One day the truth will be known and may God forgive you, says Lupe.
Casa de Castanon-Home Office Agosto has calmed down and now feels like crap (he should). Tears are flowing.  Good!  Don Lucio is pouring extra salt on Agosto’s wounds (as he should).  He chides Agosto for being a jerk to Elisa based on a lie from Carmina.  Agosto says he’s depressed because he’s treated Elisa like a red-headed step child and mentally abused her for most of her life.  Don Lucio agrees with Agosto that he has not been “Dad of the Years”.   Elisa is my child.  Maldita Carmina!  Lucio tells him to make amends with Elisa even if it means that he has to accept Damien as a son-in-law.  Lucio says that Elisa will forgive him and when Agosto works up the courage to apologize, Agosto knows where she’s staying.  Agosto says that he can’t forgive himself (and he shouldn’t).

Casa de Don Lucio-Paloma is visiting Elisa, who is still wearing that little stupid halo braid.  Paloma tells Elisa that she and Damien being siblings is the dumbest thing that she has ever heard of in her entire life.  Now Paloma understands why Elisa moved out of Agosto’s house.  Paloma tells Elisa about the argument that she had with Gael.  She mentions that Gael did not tell her about Damien and Elisa being siblings.  Elisa asks why they fought.  Paloma explains that she saw Gael hugging Elisa and jumped to the wrong conclusions.  She knows that Gael still loves Elisa and now that Damien and Elisa are siblings, she’s afraid that Gael will dump her to be with Elisa.  Elisa assures Paloma that she only thinks of Gael like a brother.  There will never be anything more between them.  Paloma tells Elisa that she will put those thoughts out of her head.  Elisa uses this opportunity to make herself the subject of the conversation.  Oh well, Paloma has come to expect this by now.  They sit on the couch.  Elisa tells Paloma that she has always thought of Gael as her brother and Damien as her lover.  She is sad that Damien is actually her brother.  While Elisa tells her that Damien is the love of her life for always, Paloma dutifully strokes Elisa’s hair and holds her friend’s hand.

Casa de Castanon-Home Office-Agosto is sitting at his desk rubbing his temples when Carmina IMUSTHAVEADEATHWISH Castanon strolls in.  What do you want?  She says that she wants to talk to him.  He tells her that they have nothing to discuss, but she closes the door (this is so there will be no witnesses to her murder at the hands of her irate husband) and walks further into the room.  She wants to explain why she falsified the DNA tests and led him to believe that Elisa is not his daughter.  She wanted him to forget his wife.  Agosto slams his hand on the table and starts yelling.  Side note:  when Agosto gets angry, he reminds me of a chained vicious foaming, barking and growling dog.   It’s unnerving.   Not only did she make him believe it, but she kept the lie going for years.  She also brought it up at every possible opportunity.  She falsified the test results and made him hate his own daughter.  Carmina blames Elisa for the death of their son. She says it was crib death?  She wanted to make Elisa pay.  Agosto defends his daughter (FINALLY!).  Carmina begs Agosto to forgive her.  She sinks to the floor and conveniently puts her face in his crotch.  At that point, Little Agosto wanted to forgive her, but fortunately, Angry Agosto was thinking with his upper brain and refused.  She continues to beg forgiveness.  He tells her that she has to move out so that he an Elisa can start their new life.

Hacienda Arango-Damien is unpacking his bags while Florencia hovers around him like a puppy dog.  She says that she couldn’t believe it when Alfonsina said that he’d move back in.  May I state that Damien is looking mighty dapper in his clingy white shirt?  Damien tells her that he heard that Guido is Up the River; but he can’t believe that Guido was capable of doing something like that. Florencia says that she can’t believe it either, but there’s a mountain of evidence against him.  She asks to change the subject.  Damien hangs his clothes in the closet, but strikes a pose for the camera so that we can enjoy his handsomeness.  The pause delays his unpacking, so Florencia removes some of his stuff from the suitcase and tries helping him put things away.  Damien protests.  He says that the wants to be alone; he’s got a lot of things on his mind.  She’s not taking the direct hint.  She asks if she still has a chance with him.  Is she one of the things on his mind?  He says that he has to think about them reuniting and he’ll let her know the outcome tomorrow.  This desperate chick even moves in for a kiss; he doesn’t return the smooch.  Between Florencia and Paloma, I am going to vomit.  A LOT.

Casa de Mickey and Mallory-Ingrid is leaving the house for the evening.  She doesn’t notice Horacio, who is standing in the shadows.  As soon as she is safely away, Horacio rushes towards the front door.  Hopefully, none of the neighbors will notice a complete stranger who is hurrying towards the front of a house (Mrs. Kravitz lives on the other side of town, so he should be safe).  After arriving at the door, Horacio removes a knife from his pocket, and turns back towards the front yard, displaying the knife that twinkles in the moonlight.  This is so that anyone watching will be able to easily identify him to the police (if La Ermita had a police force).  He picks the lock and lets himself in.  Like all people on covert missions, he turns on theoverhead lights instead of using something inconvenient, like a stupid flashlight.   He pauses, looks around and then walks over to a drawer and removes a folder; it wasn’t what he needed, so he returns it to its place.  Commercial.

Casa de Arango-Alfonsina wants to know where Braulio is going.  She reminds him that the staff members are not allowed into the bedrooms.  Braulio explains that he’s heard about the whole sibling thing and wanted to be supportive to Damien.  Alfonsina tells Braulio that she is worried about her son.  Damien needs a good friend right now, but he won’t let her be his friend.  She wants Braulio to take Damien out and show him a good time.  She butters him up by telling him that he is a good father to Vincente.  He thanks her for her confidence in him.  Sucker!

Casa de Arango (Damien’s Bedroom)-Poor cutie pie is holding his amulet like a rosary and thinking of Elisa (which is kind of disturbing because he still believes that Elisa is his sister.  Shouldn’t he been gargling or something?)  He sighs deeply and places it on his nightstand.  Braulio knocks on the door.  Come in.  Braulio invites Damien to go toss some beers back at the cantina.  At first Damien refuses, but Braulio talks him into it.

Church-Gael is just about to enter the courtyard, when Ingrid approaches him.  He asks her if she has information about Kenia.  No, I don’t, but can I have some money?  Gael wants to know why she can’t get some cash from Gabino.  Isn’t Gabino supporting her?  He must not know that Gabino is a pimp for life and pimps don’t give hos money.  He would know this if he listened to Rap music.  Geez.   She tells him that Gabino took all of her money.  She needs the money because she doesn’t want to work the stroll anymore; she wants to leave Gabino.  Gael says that he can’t believe Gabby stole her money (Again, this is what pimps do!)  She clarifies her statement by saying that Gabby is “saving it” for her.  She can’t take it anymore and wants to leave.  He tells her to stop by tomorrow around the same time and he will give her a couple of bucks.  She asks him to bring the money to her and not to tell Father Lupe.  Gael agrees.

Casa de Mickey and Mallory-Horacio is now in the bedroom with the lights on.  He is loudly ransacking the drawers.  Eureka!  He found the tickets!  He shoves them in his shirt under his armpit and turns out the bedroom light.  Right as he’s about to leave, Gabino walks in and calmly asks Horacio what he’s doing there.  They stare each other down.

Casa de Don Lucio-Agosto is in the living room waiting to speak to Elisa.  She doesn’t look happy when she sees him.  She wants to know why he’s come.  He wants her to come home.  Luke, it turns out that I am your father after all.  She tears up and tells him that she doesn’t understand.  Remember yesterday, when I told you that you weren’t mine.  I was mistaken.  You’re my kid; you’re my blood.  For years, your crazy aunt Carmina has told me that you weren’t mine and I stupidly believed her.  Elisa is confused and starts to cry.   He asks her to forgive him and asks for an opportunity to make it up to her.  He looks so sincere this time.  She grabs him and hugs him.  My little princess, he whispers in her ear.  He tells her that he adores her.  This scene is so sweet.  I almost teared-up!  (OK, I lied.  I actually did get misty because she finally got her daddy back).  Thank goodness for the commercial!

Casa de Don Lucio-We are back from the commercial and they are still holding one another.  I may not be able to continue with the recap.  This is so sappy, but cute.  Finally, they break apart and she asks about the DNA test.  He lowers his head and tells her that Carmina falsified the results.  He tells her that Lucio has the true test results if she would like to see them.  No, I know in my heart that you are my father.  She wants to know how he convinced Carmina to tell the truth.  He tells her that Father Lupe forced her to do it.  They hold hands and he tells her that the most important thing is that they start their new life.  He wants Delores to pack her bags so that they can come home.  They kiss and hug each other some more.  She is so happy and this is so sweet.  She hurries off.

Casa de Mickey and Mallory-Um Gabino is not so calm anymore.  Answer me!  What the hell are you doing in my house?  He pimp slaps Horacio in the head.  Horacio lies and tells Gabby that he was looking for him.  The door was opened, so he just walked in.  Gabby doesn’t believe it.  Nobody knows where I live.  He wants to know who told him.  Horacio says a worker told him.  Gabino is so hot when he’s angry (and when he’s happy and when he’s sad).  Horacio backs away from him.  Gabino grabs Horacio by the back of his neck and slams his face into the table.  Who sent you to my house?   He slams his face into the table again.  He threatens to break Horacio’s bones one by one.   Horacio tells Gabino that Carmina sent him.   Gabino calls him a traitor and demands to know why she sent him.  Horacio frees himself and tells Gabby that Carmina sent him for the airplane tickets.  Horacio gives Gabby the tickets and wants to know what Gabby is going to do with him.  Gabby kicks Horacio out of his house and tells him next time things will be different.

Church-Gael is in the bedroom.  He checks the drawers and the closet and determines that Damien has moved out.  Father Lupe comes in.  Gael wants to know where Damien went.  Lupe tells Gael that Damien when home, but also mentions that Damien and Elisa are not brother and sister.  Gael asks, “Are we sure this time? Are all of our Ts crossed and our Is dotted?”  Yeah, third time’s the charm, says Padre.  We are almost absolutely positive (I think) that Damien and Elisa are not related.  Padre asks Gael if he is going to see Paloma tonight.  Gael doesn’t know.  Paloma is a girl of good qualities and she’s cute.  What is your problem?  Gael says that he’s physically attracted to Paloma; but he’s not in love with her.  Padre doesn’t want to hear all of the details of the physical attraction.  Gael thinks that there should be love and lust in a relationship.  He tells Lupe that she holds himself back with her and that’s not fair.

Casa de Castanon-Carmina is pacing in the foyer; the phone rings.  Carmina rushes to answer it.  It’s Gabby, calling from a pay phone.  He tells Carmina that her plot failed; she’s not getting the tickets.  She tells him that he has to vacate her house.  She’s been given the big boot, so she has to evict them.  He tells her that their not leaving and hangs up on her.

Cantina-Damien is blasted out of his mind and tossing back triple shots of Tequila.  He’s crying (literally) about Elisa.  He says that it’s best that he and Elisa don’t’ see each other for a while.  Braulio tells him that it will be hard to forget Elisa.  Damien says that he can’t have her near him because he will violate her.  Apparently, she has great lips (Dude, you’re talking about your faux sister! Snap out of it!)  He continues to talk about her body (I know that you don’t know that she’s not your sister, but this is gross!) and how when he holds her, he wants to make her his (again, that is the polite way for saying that he wants to jump/deflower her).  He tells Braulio, that Elisa is the only woman that he will ever love!  She’s the only woman that he’s wanted most in his life.  Braulio contradicts himself (see above) and tells him to find another woman and forget about Elisa.  Damien doesn’t think another woman will do the job.  Braulio basically tells him that there are other fish in the sea.  Damien reminds Braulio that although he is legally married to Tonia; his heart, body, soul and loins long for Lolita.  Tonia hasn’t made you forget a thing, says Damien.  Braulio does not respond, but downs a triple shot as well.

Casa de Arango-Agosto, Dolores and Elisa enter the house.  Dolores is thrilled to be back.  Horacio brings in the boxes.  Carmina comes out of the office; she doesn’t look happy about Elisa being there.  Agosto sees his wife and tells her that he still expects her to be gone in the morning.  The two women exchange stink eyes.

Witch Mountain-Who knew?  Ramona has a hobby.  She is in the kitchen beading shells by candlelight, when Paloma walks in.  Have you spoken with Gael yet?  No.  Paloma says that Gael is still mad at her and that he probably won’t come.  Ramona wants to know why he’s mad, but Paloma doesn’t want to talk about it.  Ramona mentions that she saw Elisa at the cemetery.  Paloma tells Ramona that Elisa is still sad for Damien and begins to tell her about the DNA test, but Gael knocks on the door.  He greets Ramona and asks to speak with Paloma alone.  The two go outside.  Paloma apologizes for how she reacted to the hug between he and Elisa; she assures him that it will not happen again.  She tells him that Elisa was completely right when she told Paloma to get some self-confidence.  Paloma has no reason not to trust Gael.  At that moment, Gael tells Paloma that he wants to break up.  He doesn’t feel the same for her as she feels for him.  He tells her that she is a very nice chick, but he’s not in love with her.  He doesn’t want to play with her feelings.  She tells him that his obsession for Elisa is out of hand (ya mean like your obsession for Gael?).  Friends, asks Gael?  No, I won’t be able to be your friend, Gael.  She tells him to leave.  He walks off and she hugs a tree.  Commercial.

Casa de Arango-Elisa’s Bedroom-Oh joy, Elisa is unpacking her ugly clothes.  She removes the picture and the amulet from the suitcase.  She’s looking at the picture of her mother and godmother when Carmina walks in (This chick is fearless.  Doesn’t she know that her actions are worthy of death?  Or at least a good punch in the face?)  She asks Elisa to forgive her.  Elisa doesn’t believe that her aunt is being sincere.  Carmina begs Elisa not to be so tough on her.  She reminds her niece that they have the same blood and that she is her only family.  Elisa rolls her eyes.  Carmina (no shame) sits down on Elisa’s bed.  She asks Elisa to ask Agosto not to kick her out.  She’ll do anything.  Elisa apologizes, but tells her that Agosto has made his decision and she has nothing else to say.  Carmina tells her that she understands.  She tells Elisa that Estefania would have given her a second chance. Elisa signals that she’s bored with the conversation by arranging the picture and the amulet.  Carmina thanks her niece for listening and leaves.

Witch Mountain-Ramona finds Paloma sobbing by the tree.  Did Gael leave?  Yes, Grandma, Gael left.  Then what are you doing here?  Come eat dinner.  I’m not hungry.  Paloma tells her Grandmother that she wants to be alone.  Grandma gives her a kiss and tells her not to stay out too long.  Don’t be sad; it’s not the end of the world.  It is to me, says Paloma.

Casa de Arango-Damien’s Bedroom Ummmmm this is kind of strange, but….OK.  I can only report what I see.  Alfonsina is in Damien’s bedroom wearing a pretty silk robe.  She appears to be lighting candles, for what seems like a romantic evening, when she discovers the amulet that he left on the night stand.  She takes the little necklace and sticks it in her bra and continues setting the ambience.  Hmmmmmm.  I don’t know what to say.  Normally, I am not speechless, but this is just downright odd.  Isn’t incest illegal in Mexico?  Florencia enters the room and asks if Damien has arrived yet.  Alfonsina says that he should be there shortly and tells Florencia that Damien will be lit up like the fireworks on Cinco de Mayo or the 4th of July (except if you live in San Diego because of a computer glitch).  Don’t miss this chance, says Alfonsina.

Cantina-Damien has drunk all of the Tequila.  Certainly, there’s none left in that cantina.  Oops, I was wrong, he has a little left in his glass.  As Braulio lifts him out of his seat, Damien takes that last swallow.  Damien is so sexy when he’s drunk (and when he’s sober).  Braulio almost has to carry him out of the bar.  Damien keeps insisting that Braulio order another bottle.

Casa de Castanon Home Office-Agosto is studying some paperwork when there is a knock at the door.  It’s Elisa, she’s come to say goodnight.  I’m so happy for her that I am not going to mention that her boobs are out and that is an inappropriate low-cut nightie to be wearing whilst you say goodnight to your father.  She gives him a big hug and a kiss.  He thanks her for forgiving him.  He doesn’t know how he believed that she was not his kid.  She doesn’t want to talk about it.  They’ve agreed to let bygones be bygones. He tells her that she is a very noble girl.  She tells him that Carmina came to her bedroom and repented.  She feels sorry for Carmina; she seems very alone.   She doesn’t mind if Carmina stays.  Whatever he decides; she will not oppose it. What???????  It’s my mother’s sister.  What????? Elisa’s back my dumb chick list.  Move over Paloma and Florencia.  Luckily, Angry Agosto’s main brain is still doing the thinking.  He says that he has already made his decision.  Car-azy has got to go!  He hopes that Elisa respects that.  Elisa says that she’s not going to argue with him about that.  OK, so I will just keep her name penciled in on the dumb chick list…for now.  She wants to talk about Damien.  She loves him with all of her soul.  She wants to know if she can date Damien since they are not related.  He tells her that Alfonsina will never accept it.  She will make your life hell, but he’ll allow it.  He tells her to inform Damien that they can get married.  She’s so happy.  She thanks her father and gives him a hug.

Casa de Arango-So Dam Inebriated can’t find his bedroom door. Apparently, while he was out at the cantina, someone moved it.  His mother comes out of her bedroom and watches while he stumbles down the hallway.  She adjusts her satin evening gown and robe.  You son is gorgeous, but someone please inform Alfonsina that incest is against that law in Mexico.  I’ve looked it up.  Florencia is wearing a negligee and waiting in Damien’s bedroom.  Damien wants to know what she’s doing there.  My bad, now I get it!  Alfonsina was not lighting the candles to take advantage of her hot, delicious and intoxicated son.  She was setting a romantic mood so that Florencia could have sex with him while his defenses are down.  What kind of mommy from hell is she?  She got Braulio to take Damien out drinking, and then prepared the bedroom so that Florencia could sleep with him.  Florencia nibbles on Damien’s neck.  Damien tells Florencia that he needs her.  Alfonsina’s probably out in the hallway listening to her son having sex.  Gross!  Credits.

Advances
Kenia’s body is floating around.  Elisa walks in on Damien and Florencia in bed together.

Part I Recap by Madelaine

The Night Before The Pie Cart Hit

Mexico City:

We are still in Gharabaldi Square dancing and having a great time. Rod and Luci are smoochy, and that pie cart is getting closer all the time. Vio and Polo join the happy party, and she informs everyone Marcial stood her up, she has a shot of tequila. Marcial does show up finally, and tells Vio he had lots of work, and Aldo also comes with Vicky, who he says is his future novia! Rod asks if this is Don J's daughter, and Aldo says yeah, Rod is giving her a good stare. There is line dancing, drinking and smoochies. Now there is picture taking and lots of dancing and smoochies, the poor things, that pie cart is almost upon them.

We now join the three conspirators as Don A joins them. They are all having champagne but Don A would like a double cognac, that is his drink of choice. Lastra tells Don A that Luci worked for him at Inferno. Lastra tells Julie and Gala whatever they want him to do he will. The Don pipes up that he doesn't take orders from anyone, he wants an explanation and make it quick. He wants to know what is this about my palomita? Julie tells the Don that chacha stole Rod right from the altar from Gala. Don A wants to know what chacha? Suprisingly he isn't agreeable to their plan it seems. They tell the Don Luciana Jacinto of course. The Don is getting upset and says Luciana is the most beautiful girl in the pueblo, while Lastra is removing his glasses and Julie is sneering. He tells the table that Luciana is a good girl. Gala now pipes up and says that this girl was a servant (note to commenters, we really SHOULD count how many times she says domestica, cause it IS in every sentence she utters). and they are both her victims. Don asks Lastra why he is there and Lastra just grins and Gala gives the Don the stinkeye. Each then proceeds to tell the Don the "plan" on taking down Luciana Jacinto. Gala is claiming that Luci stole Rod right at the altar, Lastra is claiming that Luci is a thief who stole from him when she worked for him. The Don doesn't think any of this is true, he thinks Rod is at fault for leaving Gala, and Lastra is insulting his palomita and he won't have it, by gum. The Don wants to leave but Gala tells him to be calm. She tells him to sit back down cause they are taking Luci down manana. He tells Gala he has had enough of Lastra insulting his palomita, he finishes his drink and starts to leave when Julie calls him back. She has taken something out of her purse she hands to him. It is those pics of Luci working at Inferno. Well the Don takes those pics, and wait for it, tears them to pieces and throws them back on the table, he did look at them. He says he doesn't care about these things, I have to say here, yay Don Aquiles! Don Aquiles leaves in a huff, and the rest of the conspirators say they really don't need his help and can proceed anyway. Gala tells them once they all confront that DOMESTICA and she learns Don A is in town too, she will flee all the way back to Het Het. They toast each other with champagne. After Don A leaves this meeting he is walking the streets of the D.F. and saying to himself that his palomita couldn't have done these things, the chilangos must have turned her.

Hanna, Rosa and Conny are in the library at Torreslanda, and Rosa is talking about Conny's love life, Hanna says she wants to be like Tia Conny, full of happiness and love and the phone rings. Aldo is calling her from the little party, he needs a loan, of precisely 30 thousand pesos that his friend Lorenzo needs. As soon as Conny mentions Lorenzo, the bro of Luci, Hanna takes off to talk to Boris, and Rosa is all ears. Conny is shocked and can't beleive Lorenzo needs that much, but Aldo says Lorenzo is in a jam. While Aldo is on the phone, Lorenzo is nearby and hiding his face. He has heard everything. Rosa is still listening to Conny and now Rosa thinks the whole family are money grubbers.

Max and Oscar are at the office and Oscar tells Max that Claudio is in Belgium. Max wants to know why Belgium. (I have to say here, how is Oscar always getting this info on Claudio?) Oscar tells Max that Claudio is attending a conference of lawyers that specialize in fraud and banking. Max isn't liking that. Max is convinced that Claudio is a formidable enemy and out to get him. Oscar tells Max to calm down, he can't touch the money, but Max says Claudio isn't after money, he is after ruining Max's prestige and "good name". Oscar says well he is just in Europe so what? Swiss Banking anyone? Max tells Oscar he is leaving with Pato for Boston in the morning. He leaves Oscar in charge of the business and tells him he will be focused on Pato's recuperation and hopefully Pato will be able to walk again. Oscar tells Max he wants to call it a day, it is Sunday after all. Max wants one more thing from Oscar. He wants Oscar to keep an eye on Aldo and give him, wait for it, an office! Oscar is like why? Max tells him Aldo is very ambitious. Oscar says this is Conny's son correct, the gopher. Max says yes. Oscar also tells Max, he wants to take his relationship with Conny to a more formal level. Max is pleased with this.

Brussels, Belgium:

Claudio is wanting to check Swiss Bank Accounts, didn't I tell you? He is trying to find one connected to Max, about the time the fraud happened. He is also wanting to check Carribean Accounts, Cayman Islands, anyone? He is checking all these out to see if any can be connected to Maximino Torreslanda and the fraud charges against Claudio. He also says why, Max, why did you do this to me? Claudio wants to get postive proof that Max framed him for this fraud.

The Next Morning or The Day The Pie Cart Hits:

Mexico City:

Everyone has come to see Pato off. Everyone from the family is there but Melissa. They all wish him luck, including the Frigid one, who Pato cuts off, and Mati is the last to wish him luck, he tells her he loves her. Melissa finally rushes in, says she was late due to traffic, and was hoping to catch him before he left. She also wishes him good luck. Everyone goes outside with Pato but Frigid who is giving the eye roll. Meantime, Max is in his little home office, calling Vicky, who is at work, and tells her she *better* answer his calls while he is away no excuses and he will be back soon. Frigid is in the kitchen now at Torreslanda and Gala has called. She wants Frigid to get rid of Mati for a couple of hours so there is noone to defend Luci when the intervention loca (thanks Anon 12:29) happens. Frigid says she will take care of it.

Het Het:

Ariche and his little friends run into Copio. Ariche tells Copio he is leaving soon for the D.F. with Magda and Paz to see Luci and his friend Rod. Copio says that's funny, that's where my Patron went. Ariche tells Copio they are going for a special reason and tells Copio bye.

Magda has gotten her new dress for the wedding and is thrilled with it. They are so looking forward to the wedding and Magda is especially happy to be seeing Vio who she hasn't seen in some years.

Airport:

Now we are at the airport where Max and Rosa have brought Pato, and Luci and Rod come to bid Pato bye. Rosa comes over to Rod and gives him a kiss and Rod goes over to Pato. Rosa is with Luci and wishes her a good day, but you can tell Luci is very wary of her. Rosa invites Luci over to the Torrelanda home in the afternoon (Run Luci Run, please run) and now Luci is even warier of Rosa, and Rosa is doing a horrific, fakey smile at Luci. Luci, unfortunately agrees to come over. Luci joins Rod and Rosa says to herself, ay Luciana you only have a couple more hours of happiness with Rodrigo, mi hijo. Meanwhile Luci is wishing Pato the best of luck. She asks if she can give him the blessing, he is like sure, she does and Rosa is giving her the major death ray. Luci kisses Pato on the cheek, he thanks her for coming and goes off with Max, as he goes off he tells Rosa adios, she says adios back, no hug or kiss for Pato from Rosa, gee what a Moms, jus' sayin'. After Max and Pato go, Rosa is giving Luci and Rod that fakey smile and Rod and Luci just look at her. She goes finally and Luci gives Rod a kiss on the cheek and tells him everything will be fine.

Pie Cart Afternoon:

Rosa is home finally and calls Rod from her bedroom, he is wanted at the Torreslanda home y punto. He says he's at work, but Rosa will not take no for an answer. She hangs up and Rod is left staring at the phone.

Frigid is in the upstairs hallway, fake dusting and looking for Mati. Finally Mati comes in the hall and Frigid says she is busy and could Mati dust the elevator that Pato uses. Mati goes to do so and when she does, Frigid has the remote control and basically locks Mati in the elevator. The only way out is with the remote Frigid has. Poor Mati is yelling at Frigid to let her out, and Frigid doesn't answer her.

Now the coven of the brujas that will be performing their intervention loca tell Frigid, who is there too, that when Luci comes to bring her to the library. Rosa has that magazine in her hand. Rosa also wants to know where Mati is? Frigid says she is in her room. Rosa thinks that it is best that way, she won't interfere. Note to Frigid, I hope they lock you up somewhere, so you get claustrophobia, jus' sayin'. Rosa also wants no interruptions. Rosa says she can't wait for Rod to find out about esta typa. Rod will be the first victim of these brujas and their "intervention" and he walks right in and is surrounded by these brujas. Rod greets them all and wants to know from Moms why she invited Luci this afternoon. He is very suspicious. She won't tell him, only that she wanted to see him first. He wants to know what is so urgent. Those brujas are surrounding him. Rod is starting to get the heebie jeebies. Meanwhile, Luci has arrived and Gennaro lets her in. He tells her to wait for Frigid. Luci is left cooling her heels in the hallway.

Rosa tells Rod she is very disconcerted and Rod wants to know why she is saying this in front of Gala and Julie? Is there some type of problem? Gala will not look at Rod and Julie says they aren't the ones with the problem. Gala wants to leave, but Rosa makes her stay. Rod is getting way uncomfortable. Luci is still waiting and looking around. Frigid finally comes and escorts Luci to the piano room and tells her to wait here until Senora Torreslanda is ready for you, (Note to Luci, run girl and don't look back). Rod wants Rosa to tell him what the hell is going on here. Rosa tells him oh, I'll tell you what is going on so you fully understand. He doesn't understand what she is talking about. Rosa whips out that magazine and says she wants to talk about the woman on the cover of this magazine, the same mag Gala came by with the other day. Rod throws the mag down and says this muchacha works at the antro so what? Rosa tells him this woman is your wife, and proceeds to open the mag up to the pic of Luci and Vio together. She points to Luci with Vio and says that's your wife. Rod is just staring and Gala and Julie are smirking behind his back. Rod accuses Gala of doing this. She says she didn't do it and Rod doesn't beleive her. Julie claims they knew nothing about this till Gala did the expose and Lastra told them the name of the girls in the pics. Gala tells Rod, Lastra knows Luci very well. Rosa is giving Rod the stink eye. Frigid comes into the piano room, and says Luciana, oh, I mean Senora Luciana, she does this a number of times. Frigid brings her lemonade, which Luci doesn't drink. She thanks Frigid for bringing it to her, she wants to know how much longer she has to wait there, and is Rod with Rosa? Frigid tells her just a little while longer and yes Rod is with Rosa.

Poor Mati, is still in that elevator, banging and yelling for someone, anyone to let her out.

Serena has come by to see Vio and they are going to eat, Serena goes in the junk drawer to get the placemats and sees that envelope with Luci's name on it. Vio finally sees it, opens it, even though it has Luci's name on it and sees that mag. Vio says oh this can't be good, and shows it to Serena. She tells Serena the covergirl of this mag is Luci. Serena can't beleive it.

Now the three brujas have cornered Rod and start in with all the bad things Luci has done. Gala wants to know why Luci never told Rod about working at Inferno and she tells him Lastra told them all about Luci. Gala says Rod should have found out all about Luci. Rosa is egging Gala on, by saying that Gala "ferreted" out the truth for a good reason. Rosa thanks Julie and Gala, who are smirking behind Rod's back, about bringing it to their attention what class of woman, Luci *really* is. Rod grabs that mag and throws it, but Rosa picks it up and puts it in front of his face and Julie tells him that Lastra told them what type of woman Luci really is, like robbing clients and Lastra wanted to put her in jail. Rod grabs the mag again and remembers the talk he had with Ivan, while Polo was listening in the background, the night of the fight at Inferno. Meanwhile Luci is still waiting and looking at an artbook thinking about ceramics. Meanwile the brujas, keep up the attack on Luci's character. She ran away from Don A in Het Het, worked at the antro and then as a maid in this house. Don't beleive a word Luci says. Eva. Luci isn't the innocent she pretends to be. Rosa closes the door to the library and he is stuck in there with them. Gala leaves and Rod is now stuck with Julie and Rosa.

Gala is driving and Don A calls her. She asks Don A if he has thought about the proof he saw with his own eyes. He wants to know if what Gala and Co. have done will seperate Luci and Rod and Gala tells him Luci should be leaving soon. Don A wants a call at the hotel when she does. He wants to take her back to Het Het away from all these chilangos.

Meanwhile Julie and Rosa are tag teaming Rod, hard about Luci. Julie tells him the night he defended Luci, it bothered Gala a lot and she will never forgive him for dumping her. Rod is getting more upset and Rosa tells Julie to stop. Rod wants to find Luci so she can do some 'splaining, but Rosa stops him and tells him how can he love and trust this type of woman and why Luci never told him any of these things from her past. Rosa tells Rod she is his Moms, loves him and is trying to defend Rod, but she is really trying to stop him from talking to Luci alone. She tells Rod she wants to talk to Luci alone to see if she tells the truth. (Note to Luci: last chance girl, run for your life, jus' sayin'). Meanwhile, in the den of the brujas, Rod has had enough and is yelling at Rosa, you go Rod, he tells her she never liked Luci and he accuses Rosa of trying to find a way to get rid of Luci. Rod also tells Rosa that since Luci has been in the Torreslanda home, she has been treated badly and Rosa has tried to find every way to be rid of her. Julie was NOT expecting this. Rod tells Rosa he left the Torreslanda home and moved into the apartment cause Rosa never liked Luci from the get go and why is Rosa wanting to seperate him from Luci? Rosa tells him it is her JOB, doncha know, cause she is his Moms to UNMASK this woman. Say what????? He wants to talk to Luci and Rosa wants to know why, oh come on now! (Note to Rosa: What are you dense? Do you think he should just beleive YOUR TRUTH????). He wants to know from Luci herself that Gala, Julie and Rosa lied. Julie says she has proof what they say is true. She goes. Rod tells Rosa you are my Moms why are you hurting me this way? Rod tells Rosa that Luci is his happiness and means the world to him. He wants to know why she is so insistent on this? Rosa tells Rod cause she's his Moms and only wants the best for him, Rod is crying. Julie leaves and calls Lastra and tells him to wait just a little longer. She hangs up and has a way smarmy look on her face.

Lorenzo is at Inferno and is meeting with Ivan. Ivan chews Lorenzo a new one and tells him he trusted him and look what he gone and did. Robbed the place. Lorenzo tries to get a word in edge wise but Ivan is going on and on, until Lorenzo pulls out the 30 thousand pesos from his pocket and gives it to Ivan. (Note to Lorenzo: bad move dude, the cash that is, should have given him a check). Ivan wants to know if Lorenzo got a receipt for this cash, no but it's all there. Ivan says too bad cause Lastra is pressing charges, I think. Poor Lorenzo.

Oscar and Aldo are at Torreslanda and Oscar is showing Aldo his new office which is, wait for it, the janitor's closet, lol. Aldo thinks it is a joke, but it isn't. It is truly his new office. Aldo asks how the hell he can work here and Oscar tells him he'll find a way to adapt. Also Aldo said something about a secretary. Of course, Aldo doesn't get one of those. Oscar tells Aldo to have a great day. Aldo is so not down with this.

Mati is still banging on that elevator door and calling Frigid to let her out already. Frigid finally answers her and tells her they can't find the remote to let her out , and had to call the architect to get a replacement. Frigid is filing her nails, and that remote is on her hand, what a beyotch.

Boston, Massachusetts:

Pato and Max have arrived, and beleive it or not, speak perfect English to the bellboy as he brings up their bags. Max is happy they have gotten there and Pato is anxious, that dad is taking time away from work. As a matter of fact, he wants his dad to go back to Mexico, since they are so busy at Torreslanda, and then come back for him. Max says no way, Jose. He's staying and Pato wonders how long this will take. Max tells him little by little he will get some feeling back, look how his hand is moving already. So Pato is happy with that, and so Max is happy too.

And The Pie Cart Hits:

Frigid finally comes for Luciana, oh excuse her, Senora Luciana, she begs her pardon again, for just calling her Luciana. She tells Luci they are waiting for her in the library. Luci thanks her and goes and Frigid says, after Luci goes, the pleasure is all mine, yeah right, you beyotch, jus' sayin'

Luci goes to the library and Rosa is giving her the stink eye and Luci goes to greet Rod. Rod who is very pithed now, holds up that mag and asks her if this cover is true and is this Luci on the cover? Luci is struck dumb with shock and Rod is DEAD TO ME!

NOTE:  Due to the amount of dialog (some of it quite loud) your faithful scribe is doing a lot of paraphrasing and using personal pronouns without quotes, so forgive the presumption of quotable accuracy.  The Luci take-down will appear in as few continuous scenes as possible.

In the Library-The Beginning of the End
Lucia arrives and immediately knows something is up with Rod.  He stands with his back to her.  She realizes she is cornered like a frightened duck by Roselena.  Rodrigo shows her the Glam-rag with the article on Antros de Moda.  Rod says: Tell me there’s no truth to this.  Tell me it’s not you.  That you had nothing to do with this.  Rosie wonders if she’s brave enough to admit it.  Luci admits it is she.

In the ‘hood
Violeta and Serena are talking about the self-same issue of Glam-rag.  They don’t like it.  It was done by someone who wants to annoy or hurt Luciana.  They’ve made it look like she was a regular employee, but she only worked there one night.  She never put that costume on again.

In Gala’s Office
Gala is pacing back and forth in Communications Central.  There’s no word on how Operation Sink Lucy is proceeding.  Her long-haired, head-banded personal assistant says that with all the stuff they have against her, the outcome shouldn’t be in doubt.  Gala asserts she did not invent the Lucy story, she just put out the facts (as she deemed most advantageous).

In Boston, MA
Patricio is shirtless (and hawt), undergoing tests with a doctor who, wow, speaks excellent Spanish and is proud of it.  He’s hooked up to machines to record any nerve reaction.  Max is a bit non-plussed because they did the same tests in Mexico.  Things look good for Pato.  Even though it will be another day before doc gets the results, he gives them the good news.  They will, Wait for It, operate tomorrow morning.  Later, Max and Patricio are talking about his chances of recovering.  Pato doesn’t know if he believes in miracles, but he’s sure he needs one now.  (Sigh, Pato has such a gorgeous smile.)

In the Library-The Middle of the End
Rose is spitting venom at Luci:  Now do you know why I can’t stand you?  Why I didn’t want you anywhere near my family.  I never would have imagined you were a, a--cabaretera.
Rod:  That’s enough mamá.
Rose:  O qué (it always sounds like OK) are you going to defend her now?  This woman abused our trust.  She made fun of the unconditional affection Patricio had for her.  The same woman you surrendered your love to.  Neither of my sons deserved this, Luciana.  We know you worked in an antro and we have witnesses who can testify that you robbed a Mr. Lastra’s wallet.
Luci:  No, I never robbed any one.
Rose:  It’s on the public record that you did.
Luci:  (Unintelligible, protesting)  I never knew anything about those photos.
Julie enters: Luci, don’t lie.  Here’s the form with your signature attesting that you received a copy of the magazine.
Luci:  I never received anything.
Julie:  Is this your signature?
Luci: (after being badgered by Rose) Yes, it’s my signature (after she remembers signing for an envelope).
Rose: You deceived everyone.
Luci: But I’m not a thief.
Julie: Your whole family is like that.  Rod, did you know her brother works in the same antro?
Rod:  Yes, I knew that
Julie:  Ah, but did you know he stole 30,000 pesos?
Luci: That’s not true.
Julie:  Yes, it’s true.
To prove it, the doors slide open to reveal a Satanic-looking Lastra.  Rodrigo reacts with rage and tries to throw Lastra out.  Rosie wants Rodrigo to hear him out.
Lastra:  I’m here to corroborate the story of tal Joanna, I mean Luciana.  In effect, she stole my wallet and this fellow here defended her, probably because of her innocent-looking little face.  She asked me to forgive her.  She didn’t want me to bring charges because she was working here, for this important family.
Luci: I never stole anything.

He doesn’t mention that things got a little out of hand and the estupida judge charged him with contempt, put him behind bars and dismissed the case.  But ni modo.  Rodrigo is about to throw him out when Lastra aims a parting shot.  It’s a family of thieves, her brother just stole 30,000 pesos from the firm and is going to be charged and sent to jail for robbery.  He yells they deserve a warning (Merecen un escarmiento) as he retreats.  Rosa has a very pleased look on her face as Lastra leaves and Rodrigo is no sé donde in all this.

Luci is shocked.  She begs Rod to listen to her.  If looks could kill, Luci would be dead at Rose’s hands.  Then she drops the bomb--Aldo borrowed that exact amount from Conny for his friend Lorenzo who was in trouble and she herself heard the conversation.

Rose:  And that’s not all, do you know with whom she has a very amicable relationship?  Claudio Linares, our family’s worst enemy.  She abused our trust, passing on information about our every move.  If she hid her friendship with him, there has to be some ulterior motive.
Luci:  You always judged me unjustly without knowing me, Señora.  Rodrigo, listen to me.
Rose:  Son, don’t let her ridicule, deceive or lie to you.

They both look at Luci with such scorn.  Rosa’s advice is to divorce her as quickly as possible, send her back to her lands, her pueblo, far from here.  Rod is still in shock.  He wants to be left alone with Luciana.  Rose’s parting words: Don’t think with your heart; think with your head.

At the Movies
Boris, Hannah, Melissa and Conny emerge from the película, STILL eating popcorn and discussing the action >>FF.  He volunteers to take Hannah and Melissa tomorrow with Luci to help her register to finish her preparatory course for college (la prepa).

In the Elevator
Frigida continues her little juego with poor Mati to keep her trapped in Pato’s elevator while the drama takes place in the Library.  She’s thumbing through the copy of the Glam-rag and muses about Luci having wanted to make herself the Mistress of the house.  She lies to Mati that she’s called the architect and that Roselena is resting.

In Het Het
The excitement over the trip to la capital grows by leaps and bounds.  Magda is excited that Violeta has a boyfriend.  Paz does take a couple of minutes to relay her nervousness about meeting Roselena face to face.  If she says anything to Rosa, Magda wonders, how will Luciana react to the news that Paz and Galdino were not her biological parents.  Ariche arrives to show them his new outfit.  It’s white so Magda can’t touch it until after she washes her hands.  Later, Paz is showing Magda some gold earrings that Galdino gave her on their 10th wedding anniversary.  She could have sold or pawned them, but she didn’t.

On the backstreets of the ‘hood
Fabian and Lorenzo debate whether or not they should tell Luci about the money.  Lorenzo thinks it’s only going to trouble Luciana, so close to her wedding.  Fab reflects that had Lorenzo filed charges the police would have come and taken him away.  They are in a quandary.  Fab thinks the right thing to do is to call Aldo and ask for help—he was the one who started it all.

In a Berlin hotel room
Claudio Linares is sure he will learn a lot at the bank in the morning.  He’s on the trail of the unjust accusations against him.  He muses to Aurora: How could a noble, wonderful woman like Roselena stay married to someone as wretched as Max.

In the ‘hood
Estelita knocks on Violeta’s door bringing her a visitor.  It’s, Wait for It, Mrs. Marcial.  She looks around the place as if she’s going to pick up cooties and declares, so this is her husband’s den of iniquity.  Husband?  What is she talking about, Vi wants to know.  Marcial is her husband.  Vi swears she didn’t know he was married.  Mrs. Marcial swears she’s not going to let a “tipa” like her leave her two children without a father.  She wants Vi to leave *him* alone.  (Wait a minute, what’s wrong with this picture—shouldn’t she be telling hubby to leave *her* alone?)  Vi is rightfully offended and tells her to Largate.  A mini-cat fight follows and Vi finally gets her out.  Shouting continues from outside (unintelligible, but probably unkind—one was desgraciada).  Vi dissolves into tears on her couch.  Later, Marianita and Estelita knock.  They want to know what all that commotion was about and who was that lady yelling like that.  Vi tells them of Marcial’s deception.

Poolside
Don Aquiles is dressed to the nines, sitting by the pool, watching the lovelies, but chafing to get out of this city hotel hell-hole.  All he can think about is his Lucianita, being reunited with her again and flying back to Het Het with his Palomita, as Srta. Gala promised.

In GaLaLa Land
Gala, meanwhile, is savoring in her mind’s eye the delicious scenario of Luciana suffering at Rod’s hands.  Sadly for Viewerville, she’s watching the right channel.  Ms. personal assistant congratulates her on her planning.  Gala cuts her off.  They didn’t  P.L.A.N. anything, they merely showed Rodrigo what type of person Luci is.  (With just a few embellishments, naturally, weighted evidence and questionable witnesses  she, er, Rose had to pay through the nose to get.)  Gala knows he hates lies the most and she knows all about what it’s like to be on the receiving end of Rod’s fury, so she wouldn’t want to be in Luciana’s shoes.

In the Library – The End of the End
Luci wants to know if he’ll listen to her.
Rod says: Only if you are going to tell the truth.  I *only* want to know if everything they’ve said is true, Yes-Or-No.
Luci: Please, give me a chance to defend myself.
Rod: Yes-Or-No (bad Rod).  You deceived me.
Luci: Yes. Yes, it’s all true, but I didn’t deceive you.
Rod: If you weren’t deceiving me, why didn’t you tell me you were the waitress at the Inferno.
Luci: Because I had nothing to do with that place or that man.
Rod: You should have told me about it *and* Claudio Linares.  Didn’t you know he was our family’s worst enemy?
Luci: Yes, I knew that.
Rod: All the accusations are true.  I can’t believe it.
Luci: I was afraid.
Rod: Afraid of what—that you did something so wrong that you were afraid?
Luci: I didn’t do anything wrong.  Claudio Linares is my friend.
Rod: Then why did you hide it from me, Luciana?  Why did you lie about it?
Luci: I didn’t lie.
Rod: But you didn’t say anything, that’s a form of lying (remember what Padre said, Luci….).  Why did you make me believe you are someone you aren’t—who are you, then, the woman I gave my whole heart and whole life to.  (Luci doesn’t answer him.)
Rod:  So, answer me, not one more lie.
Luci: I’m not a liar.
Rod: Well then, tell me the truth; at least try it for once in your life.
Luci:  You are offending me.
Rod: I’m offending *you*?  What’s my offense?  For having loved you? For having left everything for you? For defending you against everyone?  I left a woman at the altar (well, civil registration table) who had always been honest and frank with me.
Luci: Well then, vete with her then.  She’s worthy of your love, your trust, and your piety.  Call her (handing him the phone), call them, that’s what they want; they’re waiting for this to be over so they can come save you, Rodrigo.  (What, did Rodrigo think she would cave and crumple like a discarded piece of wrapping paper—GO Luciana, through your anguish, show him who’s wearing the rocks.)  Is that what you want?  Well, keep that woman, then, if she’s so worthy of you…and me?  Erase me from your life.

Luci makes a beeline for the door but Rod grabs her for a second round of verbal sparring.

Rod:  Why did you deceive me?  I didn’t deserve it, Luciana.
Luci: I  N.E.V.E.R. deceived you.  I love you.
Rod: I don’t believe you anymore.
Luci: Look at me.  These eyes can’t lie to you.  For as much as they (the harpies, not the eyes) accuse me, I *am* innocent.

Rod is as unbending as a rod.
Luci pleads with him: All these things have a reason, but none of them have anything to do with our love.  Please, you know me, you’ve been to my pueblo, you met my people, my family, but if you doubt the kind of woman I am, it’s no use, there’s no use fighting for you.
Rod: Así es, no tiene caso. (That’s right, it’s no use.)
Luci picks up her purse to leave:  Goodbye, Rodrigo.

Slam go the sliding doors.  Rod is startled.  (What was he expecting, more begging?)  No, he’s clearly deshecho and sinks down on the carpet, crying, real man-tears.  (It tears me up—the watery kind and the ripping up kind.)

Out in the Living Room, et seq.
Julie is on the phone with Gala telling her that they are hoping the chacha won’t convince him.  Gala is pithed because they should never have left the two of them alone together.  Gala is afraid that this is their last opportunity.  All they can do is wait.  Even though Rosie thinks the longer they are together, their chances lessen, Julie doesn’t think Rod is tonto.  Julie and Rosie are waiting for the fireworks to be over and the waterworks to turn on.  Julie doesn’t think they should cry *Mission Accomplished* just yet.  They need to wait until Rodrigo runs her out of the house.  Julie is sure that Rod will see that she’s just a fortune hunter.  Just then Luci passes the ladies on her way out the door.

Rosa runs after her:  So you thought you could win this one.  Now you see, a mother will do anything to save her son.
Luci turns and addresses Roselena: You don’t know how much I would like to have known that good and generous lady that Claudio Linares talks about.  Don’t worry, he isn’t going to learn what you are really like on my account (ooh, I bet that smarts).

What about Linares, Julie wants to know.  Rose says not to ask, it’s none of her business.  Rodrigo walks out right past them.  Rose wants to know where Rodrigo is going.  Rodrigo is out of the house asking Jenaro where the Sra. went.  He’s into his blue car like a batman without a robin and nearly blows Boris, Conny and Hannah away.  Boris manages to tell him that Luci just got into a taxi.

Frigida brings the two harpies some té de tila. (Linden-flower tea—sounds delicious.  I say we add serving tea to upset, sick or sleepless people to bingo cards, but it takes three teas to get one bingo square.)

Rosie wants to know where Mati is.  Frigida tells her about Mati being trapped in Pato’s elevator, but not to worry, she’s on top of things.  Just then the three who were nearly blown away by Rod’s exhaust, reach the living room.  Hannah learns that Mati is “indisposed” at the moment and can’t bring Conny any coffee.  Hannah and Boris go flying to the rescue.  Conny mentions that she just saw Luci leaving in a very agitated state.  It was kind of strange to see her get in a taxi while Rod got in his auto to follow her.  Rosie and Julie try hard not to look as though they just swallowed a Luci-sized canary.

Out on the streets of DF, a typical car chase ensues.  Luci is in the forward car, crying her eyes out while Rod follows, getting hemmed in by turning cars in a round-about.  He loses her and gives up, pounding the steering wheel in frustration.

Hannah is telling Mati to stay calm.  Since the elevator doors can only be operated with Pato’s control, Hannah can’t figure out how the doors closed on her.  Frigida volunteers to go look for the control (i.e. her pocket).  Whoopee, Frigida must have “found” the control and Mati is free.

Lorenzo Talks to Aldo
Aldo’s not worried about a measly little 30,000 pesos.  It isn’t a fortune but it’s the principle (and the principal) of the matter.  Lorenzo needs to clear things up.  He’s already lost his job and he’s facing arrest for theft.  Worse is what he’s going to have to tell his sister.  Aldo tells him not to worry about the job, he’s got some major pull with Lastra, so he’ll fix things.

Rod Works Out but Doesn’t Work it Out
Rod has a boxing match with his punching bag.  (Does he wish it were Luciana or his mother?)  He works off some of his anger and frustration (we think), while in his mind he runs through some of his and Luci’s earlier conversation.

Back in the ‘hood
Luci arrives back at the apt.  Vi tells Luci the Marcial backstory.  Vi shows Luci the antro spread.  She’s afraid it might cause problems with her husband—it’s stale news now and only makes Luci sadder.  She tells Vi that it’s over; she and Rod are done.

Back at Communication Central
The two twitter-birds are back to check on Gala.  Julie has reported that Rod knows everything,  the serving wench has left disconsolate (desolada) and Rodrigo is furious.  Valentina (the blonde who talks straight) wonders if there might not be a chance for a reconciliation.  Gala thinks that if Rod has a shred of dignity left, he’ll start divorce proceedings first thing tomorrow.  Well, ya, says Val, but what if instead he begs for forgiveness.  They scoff at her (good place to use escarnecer).  Nope, Gala assures her, there will be no reconciliation.  They should have been there and seen him.  The first thing Rodrigo did was to look at her, Gala, as if she were the cause, so she made a quick exit.  She knows she has to give him time (before she goes hunting and trapping).  Rod needs to send Luci back on the first bus to where she came from—from where she should never have left.  Ever optimistic, Val says maybe it was destiny, destiny that brought Luci here.  Val stays on topic, destiny is something of a mystery.  If it’s their destiny to be together, then they’ll be together (no truer tn words were spoken, but we have a ways to go).

Gala calls Don Aquiles to tell him the deal is done, but would he please wait until tomorrow.  He gives a reluctant ok.  He wants to leave asap and needs the flight info for himself and his little Palomita, back to Het Het.

Bedtime in the ‘hood
Luci is ready for bed when there’s a knock at the door.  She thinks it’s Estelita, but it’s Rodrigo.

Avances
Gala celebrates her victory with a toast in the company of other Luci-haters
Rod shows up at Luci’s door – Luci wants to know what he wants.
Rod shows up at Gala’s door – Tu y yo vamos a hablar

Weekend Discussion: Televisa Remakes We Would Produce – Classic Movie Edition 1

Just as we had fun with recasting classic TV shows (We'll do that again if everyone wants to) here we will do classic movies. Same rules apply:
  • Pick a classic movie, any genre.  Title translation optional.
  • Give your dream cast for the Televisa Remake you would produce.  Actors currently under contract to Telemundo are also invited to the casting call.  Although most or all character names would be changed into Spanish ones, use the original character names for clarity.
  • Make note of any minor changes to setting, character relationships, etc.
  • Comment on any previously posted project.
  • New projects should occur at least every third post, but more frequently is good, too!

A lot of US blockbusters have enjoyed international success, so I will launch with one we all know and most of us love. Since the dialogue is already in keeping with novela melodrama, direct translation may be all we need so we can put more dinero into sets, props, costumes, jewelry, and SFX.  I'm sure Cecil B. DeMille would approve of this cast for the Televisa remake of his last film, The Ten Commandments.  Herewith we present the cast for Los Dies Mandamientos:
