Cuidado Thursday, February 05, 2009: The Best New Face of 2009 award goes to…. the chalk outline!
Sorry, I couldn’t help it. That thing just cracked me up. Besides, Mari’s acting was so mannered. But I get ahead of the story, so let’s rewind to the beginning…
We start with Mari on the phone saying kinder things about Ceci to Dora, the nice maid at Casa Velarde, who gives Mari the number of the hospital. Mari tells Cande that Dora wouldn’t tell her what Ceci wanted to say to her when she came to the theater to find her.
JM asks Rocio if she wants to come see Mari’s opening night. Rocio is excited for Mari but has a date with Vicente. She tells JM to be extra handsome. He thinks to himself I already am, which they don’t actually show but we can read his mind.
People are lined up at the box office to get tickets. Maybe this is a community theater, as some are wearing jeans. Mari is going through her costumes and Amador comes in and tells her to have everything ready so no last-minute panics. He says good actresses usually have big nerve attacks, and she says don’t get me started up. They discuss last-minute details and then Mari asks if she can use his cell.
Amador wants to know who she wants to call and she tells him Ceci. He tells her he said to stay away from those people and Mari said but she’s had an accident. Amador says this is no time to get yourself upset. Just focus on your debut.
JM and Leo are walking down a street in a hurry, and Leo says give me the car keys, I’ll see if I can park closer. But it’s not the theater they’re heading to we discover because JM walks in and there’s Stef sitting in a lobby under a drawing of a police chalk outline of a body which was apparently human roadkill as the road stripe goes right through it, so we gotta be at the hearing. She says she has to testify and JM asks what are you going to say? Stef’s idea of how to dress for a summons is a flimsy low-cut top with sparkly spaghetti straps.
Mari is telling her dresser, namely Olga, that Amador wouldn’t let her call Ceci. Olga says he’s just trying to protect you – she doesn’t hear the cellos fire up in the background. Probably years of prostitution have given her hearing loss in the dastardly-men range.
Stef says she doesn’t know why she was summoned, so she doesn’t know what she’s going to say. She’s called in and here comes Omar who only sees her retreating behind, not her face. JM says that’s Velarde’s kinda sorta daughter and Omar says oo la la, you have good taste. JM says but she’s very bad. He wants to wait to hear how things came out, so Omar says he’ll go for a nice walk in the neighborhood, which means probably that he wants to wander wraith-like through the streets of the DF looking for Lirio. Oh, that restless heart!
The doctor tells the judge that if Ceci’s internal hemorrhaging needs to get under control tonight or else….
Stef tells the hearing people that she met Blanca and that she thinks it was a good idea for JM to hire a nanny as the mother-in-law is a real problem and the child was hearing things a child shouldn’t, and that it gave JM someone on his side. She says Blanca was devoted to JM. The lawyer asks if Stef thinks Blanca would have done anything that JM asked and Stef says I believe so. Even help him get rid of a wife? Stef says she doesn’t want to make that kind of statement, but then she ends up saying yes.
The lawyer asks if she ever saw Blanca go all Ivette and Stef tells about the time she walked in on Ivette tied to the bed (we see the flashbacks) with Rocio there and how evil Ivette looked, and how she attacked Rocio and could have killed them all. She looked like she wanted to, says Stef.
Mari finds a payphone in the theater. The nurse can only tell her Ceci’s critical. Amador comes up and tells Mari off for calling. He takes a fit, throws down a folder and says she disobeyed him. What am I, your slave? says Mari. Amador says you have to give up a lot of things in this line of work, you can be replaced, you know. Fine, says Mari, I’m off!
The lawyer asks if Stef thinks it’s a matter of mental illness and Stef says I think Blanca’s a great actress – it’s all faked. Afterwards, Stef comes out and tells JM she said what she saw and what she thought. JM says he’s waiting for a friend – Omar Contreras. Stef’s eyebrows go up.
The judge is telling the padre that tonight is the critical night, they’ll know whether she’ll live or die. (Not too smart to say those things bedside – who knows what she could hear?) The padre tells him to go home and get some rest, what if there’s a moment when she really needs you and you’re exhausted? Go home, I’ll stay here and call you if she wakes. The judge acquiesces and gives Ceci a kiss on the forehead. The captions say beep beep beep.
JM tells Stef Omar is staying in his house and that he’s almost like a family member. The lawyer comes out and thanks Stef for her testimony. She says she believes that it’s not ethical for a lawyer to thank a witness for their testimony, and that’s she’s impartial and just told the truth. JM says you testified against Blanca? The lawyer says to Stef that she said Blanca was a faker. JM is shocked. Stef says she can’t perjure herself and why should she defend a murderess? She leaves and Omar is back, having conveniently missed her, and he and JM head for home to get freshened up.
Amador has followed Mari into her dressing room and is still yelling about her disobedience. She says bite me. The veins are standing out on his neck while he bellows at her that she can’t get upset and wreck her performance. Olga melts into the costume rack.
The Padre is reading his Bible and Ceci awakes and recognizes him. She tells him to let the judge get his rest, and she remembers this is Mari’s opening night. She wants to ask him a favor.
Olga tries to steady Mari and reminds her that she can’t walk out on the production - it’s for her future, plus she needs to understand that Amador has a lot invested. Mari says Ceci is critical and Olga says there’s plenty of room for hope, then. She points out that people have already bought their tickets… do it for your son!
Granny tells Mayita a sweet story about a little boy who went up to the heaven where all the babies who are waiting to be born are. He picks out his own brother. Mayita loves the story. Granny says one day, that baby brother you’ve been wanting will appear.
Amador comes into Mari’s dressing room and asks her if the show is going to go on. Mari humbly asks his forgiveness for disobeying and says he knows more about these matters than she does. For his part, Amador apologizes for going all jack-boot Gestapo on her. They shake. Cande (who, we recall, saved her from the street, gave her a home, faithfully followed her all over and was by her side through thick and thin …. but doesn’t even get to see her on her big opening night) calls his cell to wish her good luck. She and Mari talk sweetly. Showtime!
Stef and Isa are eating in a nice restaurant. They think probably JM has been too taken up with the hearings to notice the announcements about Mari’s play in the paper. Stef tells her aunt that she made it very clear at the hearings that she doesn’t like Blanca. Isa hopes and prays that Blanca will go to jail and JM too. And what will he do when he finds out Mari had his child?
Stef is philosophical and says who knows what the future will bring? For instance, Ceci hasn’t croaked yet. Too bad, says Isa, who prays some more. Stef then tells her guess what! That handsome hunk Leo is JM’s friend and he’s staying at his house! Isa is impactada. No puede ser! Stef says Leo’s looking for Lirio and maybe I’ll just tell him where she can be found.
Last minute rushing in the dressing room. Mari goes into the shower and then in burst the press who want to scoop others with an interview. Olga politely shooes them out. Olga, who is very impressed, tells Mari, who is all smiles. Olga says this is the biggest night of your life and she dances around.
At castle San Ramon, JM and Leo are all spiffed up, ready to go. Balbina tells Leo that a woman called while they were out, but didn’t identify herself. Leo’s antennae shoot up. They head out for the theater.
Olga, who wears no makeup, is apparently Mari’s makeup artist. Mari has on a fluffy pink chiffon number that makes our tiny actress look a bit pudgy. Mari is all wound up about going on, but she remembers that Amador told her when the curtain goes up, she should just pretend no one is there.
We’re at the theater and people are going in, all dressed up. So the jeans people earlier must have been just buying their tickets in advance. Leo says it’s an exciting night, and with all these people, wouldn’t it be something if he saw Lirio? Naw, she wasn’t interested in theater, he says. Time to go in! They sit down and Omar looks around, saying he has a premonition that he’ll see her there.
Four minutes to curtain! Mari is pacing, nervous. Why doesn’t she have the blond wig on? Two minutes! Olga says she’ll be behind the curtain with a script, okay? And be her prompter, okay? Mari says yes! (Just now they’re thinking of this?) Amador comes in and gives Mari a little kick in the rear – for luck, he says – and gives Olga one too. Olga picks up the towering blonde wig and runs out after them.
The doctor is checking Ceci and the judge is there pleading save my wife! Don’t let her die! The doctor says we’re doing everything we can. Ceci starts to come to. She asks for the padre who just then walks in. The judge breaks down and says do something padre. Science has done all it can, now she’s in the hands of God. The judge leaves to cry in private and the padre tells Ceci he did what she asked.
The curtain goes up and there is Mari posing in profile with that ridiculous piled-high wig. The Master of Ceremonies or whatever the character is starts up while Mari is frozen in position, so it’s hard to make her out. Omar hasn’t caught on yet.
The padre takes the tough love approach and tells Ceci that when Mari gave birth, she was also very ill and she told herself that she couldn’t die and leave her child alone. And now I’m telling you the same thing. Don’t leave your daughter alone in the world again. (You know, this might be the workable alternative to a national health plan, the Heal Thyself plan. It sure worked for Vicente.)
The play is only about 2 minutes in and Omar is already bored, having already scoped the audience. He tells JM he’s not used to being stuck in one spot for two hours and he wants to leave. The lady behind them shushes them. He and JM scoot out. JM gives him the car keys, and Leo turns his back to leave just as Mari turns to face the audience. Up the aisle he goes in slo mo. JM stands there, smiling, but I feel totally ripped off.
Curtain call – Mari is the last one out and the crowd leaps to its feet. Amador is ecstatic. Backstage, the press mobs Mari and wants to know about her business relationship with Amador and he says we’re a team! Mari, wig in hand, turns a corner and there stands JM smiling at her bee-sting lipped beauty.
Avances: somebody (Stef, natch) sends Omar a note saying she knows where Lirio can be found. Omar comes into their apartment and says Lirio, at last I’ve found you! Oops – JM is in the background, puzzled.

Las Tontas Thurs 2/5 - Tonight's lessons: don't inject oil into your body and don't have lunch with insane ladies who look like dogs
Well, there are more lessons than just those two but we'll figure the rest out for ourselves.

Outside Candy’s house, Gregoria, Alicia, and Candy have a lovely mother-daughter chat.
Alicia: Leave my husband alone or we’ll take your son.
Candy: He has amante, 2 sons, now me.
Alicia: He belongs to me.
Candy: You’re stupid!
Alicia: Look who's talking!
Tonight:
Over at the big house basement Charlie lounges on his mattress while Lucia reads a romantic tale to him, "I'll love you and be with you forever." Santi sneaks downstairs and eavesdrops on the romantic narrative. No Puede Ser!! Whew, he's relieved to discover they are just reading and not getting it on. Nevertheless the kids get scolded and after tonight Charlie must return home to his worried papa.
Next morning Santi and Charlie have a man to man talk. Charlie thinks if he accepts his father is gay then something might happen to him. Santi makes boogie man noises and tells Charlie to grow up, he's educated and lives in modern times. Fine then, Charlie says, he'll accept his dad is gay but he won't live with him.
Candy visits Patricio's office with a long tube in her hands. She sneaks into Pat's office and when he gets to work he's surprised to see Candy and a big sign above his desk, "Ask my forgiveness". He's incredulous, why should he? "You destroyed my life!" he reasons. They argue about who committed the greater treachery against the other and Candy insists she'll persecute him until he begs her forgiveness.
Speaking of treachery, Pilar the blackmailing patient is awake and Santi inspects her bubis and proclaims the operation was a success. She's delighted, she doesn't even feel any pain! But wait, she checks out her bubis and cries there's been a mistake, she ordered grapefruits and she's looking at a couple of raisins! She then notices there was no liposuction or butt implants. In typical telenovela fashion she admits she didn't have any money so she blackmailed him into operating on her by lying that he molested her and now he tricked her, boo hoo. Santi's nurse pulls a recorder out of her pocket and Santi holds it up. Busted, her entire confession is on tape! I still don't know why this random story line was included in the show.
Barbara and Ceci give Chayo some professional advice regarding her marriage to Eduardo, "Men never change." Babs tells Ceci that Chayo is just trying to fight for her marriage. Ceci asks how, by polishing the horns that adorn his head? (Referring to the saying poner cuernos or putting the horns on someone, i.e. cuckolding them.)
Pat refuses to apologize and Candy follows him downstairs yammering he'd better apologize blah blah blah. He says "You first". The guard's boom box is playing 'their' song ("Vivir sin aire" by Maná) and Candy sings along "But I can't, I feel like I'm dying, I'm suffocating without your love." Pat tries to turn the song off, she jumps in his way, they glare at each other with barely restrained emotion.
Now we have a silly and rather long scene with Hortensia in Santi's office. In short she tries to talk him out of seeing his next patient. She made the appointment over the phone but now that she sees the patient she's creeped out. Santi scolds her for being prejudiced, he treats all people no matter their physical appearance.
Horti escorts the patient in, a Miss or Mrs. Renata Hidalgo Sanchez, and we se that Ms. Sanchez is a transsexual.
Rocio and Marissa are having lunch out. Rocio announces she's number one in class and Marissa says in that case she has a surprise for her. Ta da, it's Marissa's ultrasound! The baby will be a perfect little boy just like Santi wants. Poor Rocio gets thoughtful and sad and thinks dad won't love her anymore. Marissa comforts Rocio by letting Rocio kiss her heavily made up face and preggy belly. Lunch with Marissa sucks.
Ding dong, Meño's household is getting a surprise visit from none other than Charlie's mom Laura. She bitches at Candy that Charlie is missing and it's all Meño's fault. She admits to Candy that she told Charlie his dad is gay. Candy tells Laura that in fact Charlie's disappearance is Laura's fault, not Meño's. Meño comes downstairs and tells Laura thanks to her his relationship with Charlie is lost. Laura spits back that if something happens to Charlie Meño will regret it. Duh.
Santi confirms that Renata is a transsexual and assumes she's consulting with him about a botched surgery. Renata corrects him, she didn't have surgery, she had oil injections in her bubis, butt and hips. (Yikes!) She couldn't afford plastic surgery so she went the cheap route and it all went horribly wrong and now she has many lumps in her bubis and her butt is terrible. Can Santi help her? He looks concerned and calls Horty to prepare the examination room.
In our PSA of the night Santi shares the bad news with Renata, since the oil was injected in numerous places it has traveled throughout her body. If he tries to remove the oil from her body she won't have any muscles under her skin. It's a very serious situation because the oil can affect her internal organs and her immune system. Renata cries that she doesn't want to die. Santi recommends that she consult an internal doctor but also her problem transcends the physical. He has a friend on the next floor who runs an institute for women. They have a psychologist and he's sure they can help Renata. They are altruistic and he can talk to them so money won't be a problem.
Meño and Laura's bickering is interrupted by the doorbell. It's Santi come to talk to Candy about his patient who was ruined by a charletan. He meets the rude and insulting Laura and reveals to the group that Charlie is fine and at his house. They all argue about Charlie. Laura wants him with her, the others think he should reflect on being more accepting of Meño. Santi starts singing some little song about Señor Patiño that I totally did not get. Meño finally puts his foot down, they will leave the kid with Santi so the doctor can work on Charlie's prejudices.
Back at the big house an understanding Lucia tries to help Charlie deal with the anger inside him. Santi shows up and drags Charlie and his duffel bag off to some secret location that Lucia doesn't get to know about.
Later that night Jaime and Isabel sing songs to a delighted Rocio. Jaime promises to give Rocio piano lessons and she asks if she can call him grandpa. Why are the happy scenes so short?
Santi's secret location turns out to be the club de abandonados. Over at Meño's place Pat visits Chava and brings him an arsenal of toy guns. Chava announces he likes Patricio as his dad and he's looking forward to a lot of gifts just like Beto gets. He says he would also like Santiago as a dad. Pat teases him and declares war unless he's the number 1 dad. Chava reconsiders and says since he wants Rocio as his novia then it won't work for Santi to be his dad so Pat is definitely the number 1 and only dad. Chava listens to Pat's heart and pronounces it good, then he shoots Pat in the butt with a ping pong ball.
Tha abandonados leave and Santi tells Charlie he's really disappointed in him for being so discriminatory. Does Charlie like Freddie Mercury? Elton John? Andy Warhol? (Charlie's wearing a Warhol t-shirt.) Well guess what, all gay. He instructs Charlie to spend the night at the apartment and reflect on his attitude, but hands off the niece and the booze!
Pat brags to Candy that Chava says he has a good heart. His son is marvelous...and Candy kept Chava from him all this time. Candy responds "why did you cheat on me with Soledad?" Again with the argument about who screwed whom and mutual refusal to apologize. Pat yells "I hate you I hate you I hate you I love you with all my heart." Candy bares her teeth and cries. Again the argument. She wants a divorce. He demands an apology. She knows about all his betrayals, Soledad, Alicia at his bachelor party, everything! She saved herself for a man with no heart. "Because you stole it!" he yells at her as she retreats into the house.
Back inside Candy complains to Meño that she's got her own problems yet she hears about relationship problems all day at work and she's sick of it. Meño is the sweetest guy ever, he's dealing with his own problems and all he can think about is making Candy feel better which he does. "Fuera Dolor!" She's a pain but she loves her uncle that's for sure.
Next morning Santi and Candy regroup and he tells her Charlie is staying at the bachelor pad apartment.
Raul teases Marissa about her growing belly. She nastily comments she'll end up like Lulu, then when she loses weight she'll look like a Shar Pei. (She already looks like a Boxer with Poodle ears so a Shar Pei's not such a stretch.) She cries to Raul about Santi not loving her then changes the subject to her wedding, she and Santi will make a beautiful couple. Whatever crazy lady.
Santi gives Candy the address and says she seems sad. She admits she had it out with Pat last night and he told her he hates her and loves her. She's afraid that Alicia will put it in Pat's head to take Chava away from her. Suddenly Santi's cell phone rings and who could it be but Pat wanting to get together for coffee, they need to talk. Santi agrees without letting Candy know who's on the phone. As he leaves he tells Candy it shatters him that Pat has told her he loves her.
Candy bites her lip and Pat sits in his car and sniffles while listening to Maná.
The ladies of the institute are sitting around wondering where Candy is, Ceci says it's empty without her. A meek-looking bespectacled man comes in and the girls frighten him with their attentiveness. Babs convinces him to have a seat and wait for Candy who will arrive shortly. He wrings his hands.
Pat asks since Santi lied about his friendship with Candy is there anything else to their relationship? Nope, just friends, answers Santi unconvincingly. Pat asks are there any other lies? Santi admits that the clown Chivic Chivi was Candy. And there's more, the nurse in his office? That was Candy. The secretary with the low voice, that was Candy too. Santi says Candy did all the hiding because she was afraid that Patricio would try to take her kid away from her. Patricio looks thoughtful and scary music plays.
Back at the institute nervous man tries to leave but three beautiful customers come in talking about how great the institute is so he decides to stay a little longer. Then they make him feel uncomfortable by saying he's a spy for their husbands so he changes his mind and tries to leave but Candy comes in and asks him how things are going with his wife. OK I recognize him now, he's the wimp from the restaurant. His wife is that bitchy lady and her name is Agatha and things are very bad at home.
Pat tells Santi he's not proud of what he did but at least he didn't leave like Candy did. Santi says yes Pato did leave the moment he decided to sleep with Candy's sister Alicia. Santiago's advice to Pat is to forget her, to leave and go far from Guadalajara and start a new life, it would be best for both of them. Nice try Santi.
Tomorrow: Santi tells Candy he loves her then he kisses her. Pato, stupidly dressed like a clown, sees them and gets pissed off.

Over at the big house basement Charlie lounges on his mattress while Lucia reads a romantic tale to him, "I'll love you and be with you forever." Santi sneaks downstairs and eavesdrops on the romantic narrative. No Puede Ser!! Whew, he's relieved to discover they are just reading and not getting it on. Nevertheless the kids get scolded and after tonight Charlie must return home to his worried papa.
Next morning Santi and Charlie have a man to man talk. Charlie thinks if he accepts his father is gay then something might happen to him. Santi makes boogie man noises and tells Charlie to grow up, he's educated and lives in modern times. Fine then, Charlie says, he'll accept his dad is gay but he won't live with him.
Candy visits Patricio's office with a long tube in her hands. She sneaks into Pat's office and when he gets to work he's surprised to see Candy and a big sign above his desk, "Ask my forgiveness". He's incredulous, why should he? "You destroyed my life!" he reasons. They argue about who committed the greater treachery against the other and Candy insists she'll persecute him until he begs her forgiveness.
Speaking of treachery, Pilar the blackmailing patient is awake and Santi inspects her bubis and proclaims the operation was a success. She's delighted, she doesn't even feel any pain! But wait, she checks out her bubis and cries there's been a mistake, she ordered grapefruits and she's looking at a couple of raisins! She then notices there was no liposuction or butt implants. In typical telenovela fashion she admits she didn't have any money so she blackmailed him into operating on her by lying that he molested her and now he tricked her, boo hoo. Santi's nurse pulls a recorder out of her pocket and Santi holds it up. Busted, her entire confession is on tape! I still don't know why this random story line was included in the show.
Barbara and Ceci give Chayo some professional advice regarding her marriage to Eduardo, "Men never change." Babs tells Ceci that Chayo is just trying to fight for her marriage. Ceci asks how, by polishing the horns that adorn his head? (Referring to the saying poner cuernos or putting the horns on someone, i.e. cuckolding them.)
Pat refuses to apologize and Candy follows him downstairs yammering he'd better apologize blah blah blah. He says "You first". The guard's boom box is playing 'their' song ("Vivir sin aire" by Maná) and Candy sings along "But I can't, I feel like I'm dying, I'm suffocating without your love." Pat tries to turn the song off, she jumps in his way, they glare at each other with barely restrained emotion.
Now we have a silly and rather long scene with Hortensia in Santi's office. In short she tries to talk him out of seeing his next patient. She made the appointment over the phone but now that she sees the patient she's creeped out. Santi scolds her for being prejudiced, he treats all people no matter their physical appearance.
Horti escorts the patient in, a Miss or Mrs. Renata Hidalgo Sanchez, and we se that Ms. Sanchez is a transsexual.
Rocio and Marissa are having lunch out. Rocio announces she's number one in class and Marissa says in that case she has a surprise for her. Ta da, it's Marissa's ultrasound! The baby will be a perfect little boy just like Santi wants. Poor Rocio gets thoughtful and sad and thinks dad won't love her anymore. Marissa comforts Rocio by letting Rocio kiss her heavily made up face and preggy belly. Lunch with Marissa sucks.
Ding dong, Meño's household is getting a surprise visit from none other than Charlie's mom Laura. She bitches at Candy that Charlie is missing and it's all Meño's fault. She admits to Candy that she told Charlie his dad is gay. Candy tells Laura that in fact Charlie's disappearance is Laura's fault, not Meño's. Meño comes downstairs and tells Laura thanks to her his relationship with Charlie is lost. Laura spits back that if something happens to Charlie Meño will regret it. Duh.
Santi confirms that Renata is a transsexual and assumes she's consulting with him about a botched surgery. Renata corrects him, she didn't have surgery, she had oil injections in her bubis, butt and hips. (Yikes!) She couldn't afford plastic surgery so she went the cheap route and it all went horribly wrong and now she has many lumps in her bubis and her butt is terrible. Can Santi help her? He looks concerned and calls Horty to prepare the examination room.
In our PSA of the night Santi shares the bad news with Renata, since the oil was injected in numerous places it has traveled throughout her body. If he tries to remove the oil from her body she won't have any muscles under her skin. It's a very serious situation because the oil can affect her internal organs and her immune system. Renata cries that she doesn't want to die. Santi recommends that she consult an internal doctor but also her problem transcends the physical. He has a friend on the next floor who runs an institute for women. They have a psychologist and he's sure they can help Renata. They are altruistic and he can talk to them so money won't be a problem.
Meño and Laura's bickering is interrupted by the doorbell. It's Santi come to talk to Candy about his patient who was ruined by a charletan. He meets the rude and insulting Laura and reveals to the group that Charlie is fine and at his house. They all argue about Charlie. Laura wants him with her, the others think he should reflect on being more accepting of Meño. Santi starts singing some little song about Señor Patiño that I totally did not get. Meño finally puts his foot down, they will leave the kid with Santi so the doctor can work on Charlie's prejudices.
Back at the big house an understanding Lucia tries to help Charlie deal with the anger inside him. Santi shows up and drags Charlie and his duffel bag off to some secret location that Lucia doesn't get to know about.
Later that night Jaime and Isabel sing songs to a delighted Rocio. Jaime promises to give Rocio piano lessons and she asks if she can call him grandpa. Why are the happy scenes so short?

Fuego, Feb. 5: Don't Come Knockin' if the Hacienda's Rockin'!
Last Night: Sofia is telling the sisters she’s known who killed the Reyes parents and why she hasn’t told Juan yet. Gabi and Feo are lying in bed reveling in the good news of the recent death of Coyote. We get to see Darth die again.
Feo wakes up in the middle of the night thinking how he’s going to be the sole heir of the Elizondo fortune when the ghost of Rosario comes back to haunt him once again. He’s scared to death and his eyes look like they’re ready to bug out of his head. He’s trying to convince himself that her ghost isn’t real.
The boys head over to their parent’s grave to tell them that their murderer, Darth, is death. They leave the snake belt on the grave as a prize. They’re sorry Darth died before he could be brought to justice to pay for his crimes. But, finally, Juan Jose and Maria Libia can rest in peace. Now the boys just have to find out who killed their sister and find justice for her. The boys swear o Mommy and Daddy to stay together forever.
Again with the full moon. Root is walking alone wondering where the heck her Daddy Darth is. Rosendo runs up to tell her that her father is dead. She flips out and wants to know who killed him. Stupid Rosendo tells her that Juan killed her father by pushing him over the edge of the canyon. Root screams like an animal, Rosendo comforts her.
Back at the dispensario, the boys come to tell Paddy Tad what happened to Darth. Miracle Priest is sitting up in a chair clutching a cross to his chest. Pad says the boys can finally rest because they’ve kept their promise to their parents. But the boys say no, they still have to find the killer of their sister. Juan tells Pad that Coyote told him that Libia was murdered. Then Juan tells his brothers and Paddy that Soledad told him that Eva is Sofia’s real mother. [Nobody has mentioned that Root is Gabi’s daughter, though.] Juan says he’s going to tell Sofia, the boys agree, but Pad says no, don’t tell her. Pad says he can’t tell him why, but to wait and not to tell Sofia or Eva. [What happened to no more lies?] Oscar tells Juan the Padre must know something, he knows lots of confessional secrets, and it’s better to do what Pad says and not tell Sofia yet.
Juan goes to Sofia’s bedroom to tell her what happened to Darth. Sofia wants to confess that she’s known about Darth being the one who murdered his parents, but he tells her he’s not in the mood to talk, he’d rather play hide the salami. They get down to business.
Oscar shows up in Jimena’s room and she’s thrilled that he can walk again. He says it’s all thanks to her love for him. Jimena asks what happened to Darth? Oscar says he’ll tell her later, now let’s do the horizontal mambo!
Yikes! The hacienda has turned into a bordello, because now Franco is in Sarita’s room, and since Sarita’s hair is loose and unpinned, you know she wants her pipes cleaned too!
Root busts into Gabi and Feo’s bedroom to tell them her father is dead and that Juan killed him. Gabi tells Rot she’s happy Darth is dead. Root promises revenge against Gabi for the deaths of her father and brother. Gabi tells Root she’s turned into a weak woman, she’s disappointed her, she’s more like Eva’s daughter now. Gabi throws her out of her house. Root says she’ll leave, but before she goes, once again she promises revenge against Gabi, and against Feo too! Feo reminds Gabi that her enemies are droppin’ like flies, but Gabi reminds Feo she still has to worry about Root. Why is Gabi sleeping in her clothes?
Back at the Doble R, Eva is asking Oscar, Franco, Tio Vicente how Root is – they tell her she’s distraught, and of course Eva runs to go see the daughter that always rejects her. After Eva’s gone, Franco comments about the big surprise coming Eva’s way. Tio wants to know the secret, he says he’ll guard it with his life. The boys tell him that Sofia is really Eva’s daughter, and that Root is really Gabriela’s daughter. (But this is the first time anyone has mentioned this out loud!) Tio Vicente is impactado. Talk about Quintina selling the bread, and her stripper show, blah, blah.
Over to the stripper show. The sisters compliment Quintina on her dancing.
Pablito is in the kitchen pretending to have muscles so he can join Quintina’s Stripper Show. Tio comes in and says none of that, Pablito has to go to school and study. But Pablito says he wants to be a star.
At the Doble E, Gabi’s goin’ tells Fatima to tell Rosendo to get the truck ready – she’s going into town to formally accuse Juan of Darth’s murder, but Juan comes in and says he’s not a murderer, he was only after justice, and he wants the same for her. Juan says he knows she’s been hiding the fact that Darth killed his parents and she’s got some ‘splainin’ to do. She says no way is he going to accuse the mother of the woman he loves like that. He says he knows she’s not Sofia’s mother, that she’s Root’s mother and that’s why she and Root are so venomous. Juan tells her that Soledad told him the truth. She tries to tell him that she doesn’t know who Sofia’s mother is, but she’s Sarita and Jimena’s mother and is he going to destroy their lives and the lives of his brothers? He says she’s going to jail no matter what. Gabs is definitely worried. We’re getting a whole new view of a different part of the hacienda in this scene. I know that they rent the real hacienda out for weddings, events, etc. – maybe the regular set was being used the day they filmed that scene?
Over at the Cabana, Eva tries to console Root. Root finally starts coming around, realizing she has nobody else. She says she wishes that Eva really had been her mother. Eva says they can live together and recover the time they’ve lost and start a new life together. [Eva’s been trying to get the heck out of Ciudad Serdan for a long time – wasn’t she going to run off with Rosario too?] Root truly looks happy at the thought of going far away with Eva to start life all over without resentment and hate, but full of love. Root cries, Eva holds her.
Sofia is thinking how she needs to tell Juan the truth about knowing who the killer of his parents was. Juan comes busting in and wants to go see the kids. She wants to talk. She confesses to knowing everything about the murder of his parents. Juan is muy impactada. He wants to know why she didn’t tell him. She explains she was afraid of how he would react. Now Juan is pissed off – he doesn’t understand how she could hide something so important from him. He walks out on her. More Sofia alligator tears, blah,blah.
Root, in a total hoochie mama outfit, sneaks up on Feo and is seducing him. There must be a Frederick’s of Hollywood outlet store in Ciudad Serdan that was having a 75% off sale today. They’re kissing, she wants to make a deal with him. Root tells Feo that if he doesn’t do what she wants, she’ll take the dagger with his fingerprints on it that he used to try to kill Paddy Tad to Officer Mutton Chops, and then the whole pueblo will tear him limb from limb. She says she’ll wait for him at the cabana tonight and she’ll tell him what she wants.
Juan comes yelling malhaya! back into the kitchen and tells the boys that Sofia betrayed him. Do we really have to live through another misunderstanding between them? Ugh. He tells them Sofia knew Darth murdered their parents. Juan says he’ll never forgive her. Tio Elf says he knew also, and Tio told Sofia not to tell Juan. They argue. Tio Elf explains that the boys have to leave behind all the hatred and vengeance, that part of their life is over. Oscar and Juan are mad as hell. Franco and Tio explain to Juan and Oscar that they also had kept a secret from the girls at one time. Juan looks like the idea might really be sinkin’ into that thick head of his. I finally figured out who Juan reminds me of – he’s the Mexican version of Jethro Clampett!
Sofia went running to the recuperating Miracle Padre to tell him Juan’s mad at her. Poor Pad, never gets any rest or respect. Pad tells her now is not the time to suffer, Juan will come to his senses and come back to her. He tells her to try and understand Juan, he has a big, noble heart, just like her, and has the capacity to forgive. She says this time nothing will separate her from Juan.
Over at Root’s Hoochie Hideaway, she’s writhing alone on her bed, planning her big surprise for Feo. She thinks if everything goes right, she’s going far away with Eva to live happily ever after. But first, she has to write Gabi a letter.
Juan is still trying to figure out a way to blame Sofia, when she storms into the kitchen and tells him he’s going to listen to her reasons for keeping the secret from him or he doesn’t deserve her love. The boys leave the two of them alone. She explains that she didn’t want to tell him because she knows how impulsive he is and was afraid of his reaction. She thought something terrible would happen, that he would kill Darth, or even worse, Darth would kill him. She says he knows damn well she’d never do anything to hurt him. He says he thought there wouldn’t be any more secrets between them. She says she did it for him, to protect him. Juan forgives her. Wow, that was a close one – I thought we’d have to suffer until the ultimo capitulo for a reconciliation. They kiss.
Root’s writing her letter to Mommy Crabs, to her that she and Feo were lovers, and how much they enjoyed betraying Gabi together. She seals the envelope.
Starsky, ex-Crutch, and Jethro are brainstorming about the murder of their sister. They narrow down the suspects to Feo and Crabs. Juan thinks one of the employees at the hacienda might know something.
Root gives Eva the letter to give to Gabriela in case something happens to her. Eva should disown Root for wearing that skankalicious dress! Root also tells Eva she’s decided to accept Eva’s offer to run far away with her. Eva is on Cloud 9. Eva wants to leave right now, but Root tells her she has to take care of something first.
The boys are interviewing Rosendo about the night of Libia’s death. Rosendo tells them that Feo left the hacienda in the truck that night, going very fast, like he was following someone.
Root goes to see Gabi and Gabi tries to throw her out. Root says before she goes, she wants to give Gabi a big surprise. Sofia walks in and wants to know what’s going on. Root says Gabi knows a truth that Sofia would be interested to know. Sofia questions Gabi. Root eggs Gabi on to tell her. Gabi tells Sofia that Root was the one who put the snake in the girl’s bedroom! Root and Sofia are both muy impactada! Boy, that Gabi’s a slick one!
Malhaya otra vez! The boys can’t find Feo, they’ll look for him again tomorrow. Eva runs in to tell them the good news about she and Root going away together to live happily ever after. Danger Will Robinson! One big anvil about to drop. Juan says she can’t leave. Eva’s like no, you don’t understand, my hoochie mama daughter has finally accepted me, we’re out of here. Juan’s like yeah, that’s why you’re not going anywhere! Juan doesn’t want to break his promise to Pad about not telling Sofia or Eva, but the boys tell him that he can’t let Eva go. Eva is totally confused. Juan tells Eva that Root is not her daughter, she’s Gabriela’s daughter and about Raquel’s baby swapping. Eva is devastated. She fed up with this – she wants to know who the hell her daughter is! Juan finally tells Eva that Sofia is her daughter! Eva is impactada, but in a good way.

Now the boys just have to find out who killed their sister and find justice for her. The boys swear o Mommy and Daddy to stay together forever.
Again with the full moon. Root is walking alone wondering where the heck her Daddy Darth is. Rosendo runs up to tell her that her father is dead. She flips out and wants to know who killed him. Stupid Rosendo tells her that Juan killed her father by pushing him over the edge of the canyon. Root screams like an animal, Rosendo comforts her.
Back at the dispensario, the boys come to tell Paddy Tad what happened to Darth. Miracle Priest is sitting up in a chair clutching a cross to his chest. Pad says the boys can finally rest because they’ve kept their promise to their parents. But the boys say no, they still have to find the killer of their sister. Juan tells Pad that Coyote told him that Libia was murdered. Then Juan tells his brothers and Paddy that Soledad told him that Eva is Sofia’s real mother. [Nobody has mentioned that Root is Gabi’s daughter, though.] Juan says he’s going to tell Sofia, the boys agree, but Pad says no, don’t tell her. Pad says he can’t tell him why, but to wait and not to tell Sofia or Eva. [What happened to no more lies?] Oscar tells Juan the Padre must know something, he knows lots of confessional secrets, and it’s better to do what Pad says and not tell Sofia yet.
Juan goes to Sofia’s bedroom to tell her what happened to Darth. Sofia wants to confess that she’s known about Darth being the one who murdered his parents, but he tells her he’s not in the mood to talk, he’d rather play hide the salami. They get down to business.
Oscar shows up in Jimena’s room and she’s thrilled that he can walk again. He says it’s all thanks to her love for him. Jimena asks what happened to Darth? Oscar says he’ll tell her later, now let’s do the horizontal mambo!
Yikes! The hacienda has turned into a bordello, because now Franco is in Sarita’s room, and since Sarita’s hair is loose and unpinned, you know she wants her pipes cleaned too!
Root busts into Gabi and Feo’s bedroom to tell them her father is dead and that Juan killed him. Gabi tells Rot she’s happy Darth is dead. Root promises revenge against Gabi for the deaths of her father and brother. Gabi tells Root she’s turned into a weak woman, she’s disappointed her, she’s more like Eva’s daughter now. Gabi throws her out of her house. Root says she’ll leave, but before she goes, once again she promises revenge against Gabi, and against Feo too! Feo reminds Gabi that her enemies are droppin’ like flies, but Gabi reminds Feo she still has to worry about Root. Why is Gabi sleeping in her clothes?
Back at the Doble R, Eva is asking Oscar, Franco, Tio Vicente how Root is – they tell her she’s distraught, and of course Eva runs to go see the daughter that always rejects her. After Eva’s gone, Franco comments about the big surprise coming Eva’s way. Tio wants to know the secret, he says he’ll guard it with his life. The boys tell him that Sofia is really Eva’s daughter, and that Root is really Gabriela’s daughter. (But this is the first time anyone has mentioned this out loud!) Tio Vicente is impactado. Talk about Quintina selling the bread, and her stripper show, blah, blah.
Over to the stripper show. The sisters compliment Quintina on her dancing.
Pablito is in the kitchen pretending to have muscles so he can join Quintina’s Stripper Show. Tio comes in and says none of that, Pablito has to go to school and study. But Pablito says he wants to be a star.
At the Doble E, Gabi’s goin’ tells Fatima to tell Rosendo to get the truck ready – she’s going into town to formally accuse Juan of Darth’s murder, but Juan comes in and says he’s not a murderer, he was only after justice, and he wants the same for her. Juan says he knows she’s been hiding the fact that Darth killed his parents and she’s got some ‘splainin’ to do. She says no way is he going to accuse the mother of the woman he loves like that. He says he knows she’s not Sofia’s mother, that she’s Root’s mother and that’s why she and Root are so venomous. Juan tells her that Soledad told him the truth. She tries to tell him that she doesn’t know who Sofia’s mother is, but she’s Sarita and Jimena’s mother and is he going to destroy their lives and the lives of his brothers? He says she’s going to jail no matter what. Gabs is definitely worried. We’re getting a whole new view of a different part of the hacienda in this scene. I know that they rent the real hacienda out for weddings, events, etc. – maybe the regular set was being used the day they filmed that scene?
Over at the Cabana, Eva tries to console Root. Root finally starts coming around, realizing she has nobody else. She says she wishes that Eva really had been her mother. Eva says they can live together and recover the time they’ve lost and start a new life together. [Eva’s been trying to get the heck out of Ciudad Serdan for a long time – wasn’t she going to run off with Rosario too?] Root truly looks happy at the thought of going far away with Eva to start life all over without resentment and hate, but full of love. Root cries, Eva holds her.
Sofia is thinking how she needs to tell Juan the truth about knowing who the killer of his parents was. Juan comes busting in and wants to go see the kids. She wants to talk. She confesses to knowing everything about the murder of his parents. Juan is muy impactada. He wants to know why she didn’t tell him. She explains she was afraid of how he would react. Now Juan is pissed off – he doesn’t understand how she could hide something so important from him. He walks out on her. More Sofia alligator tears, blah,blah.
Root, in a total hoochie mama outfit, sneaks up on Feo and is seducing him. There must be a Frederick’s of Hollywood outlet store in Ciudad Serdan that was having a 75% off sale today. They’re kissing, she wants to make a deal with him. Root tells Feo that if he doesn’t do what she wants, she’ll take the dagger with his fingerprints on it that he used to try to kill Paddy Tad to Officer Mutton Chops, and then the whole pueblo will tear him limb from limb. She says she’ll wait for him at the cabana tonight and she’ll tell him what she wants.
Juan comes yelling malhaya! back into the kitchen and tells the boys that Sofia betrayed him. Do we really have to live through another misunderstanding between them? Ugh. He tells them Sofia knew Darth murdered their parents. Juan says he’ll never forgive her. Tio Elf says he knew also, and Tio told Sofia not to tell Juan. They argue. Tio Elf explains that the boys have to leave behind all the hatred and vengeance, that part of their life is over. Oscar and Juan are mad as hell. Franco and Tio explain to Juan and Oscar that they also had kept a secret from the girls at one time. Juan looks like the idea might really be sinkin’ into that thick head of his. I finally figured out who Juan reminds me of – he’s the Mexican version of Jethro Clampett!
Sofia went running to the recuperating Miracle Padre to tell him Juan’s mad at her. Poor Pad, never gets any rest or respect. Pad tells her now is not the time to suffer, Juan will come to his senses and come back to her. He tells her to try and understand Juan, he has a big, noble heart, just like her, and has the capacity to forgive. She says this time nothing will separate her from Juan.
Over at Root’s Hoochie Hideaway, she’s writhing alone on her bed, planning her big surprise for Feo. She thinks if everything goes right, she’s going far away with Eva to live happily ever after. But first, she has to write Gabi a letter.
Juan is still trying to figure out a way to blame Sofia, when she storms into the kitchen and tells him he’s going to listen to her reasons for keeping the secret from him or he doesn’t deserve her love. The boys leave the two of them alone. She explains that she didn’t want to tell him because she knows how impulsive he is and was afraid of his reaction. She thought something terrible would happen, that he would kill Darth, or even worse, Darth would kill him. She says he knows damn well she’d never do anything to hurt him. He says he thought there wouldn’t be any more secrets between them. She says she did it for him, to protect him. Juan forgives her. Wow, that was a close one – I thought we’d have to suffer until the ultimo capitulo for a reconciliation. They kiss.
Root’s writing her letter to Mommy Crabs, to her that she and Feo were lovers, and how much they enjoyed betraying Gabi together. She seals the envelope.
Starsky, ex-Crutch, and Jethro are brainstorming about the murder of their sister. They narrow down the suspects to Feo and Crabs. Juan thinks one of the employees at the hacienda might know something.
Root gives Eva the letter to give to Gabriela in case something happens to her. Eva should disown Root for wearing that skankalicious dress! Root also tells Eva she’s decided to accept Eva’s offer to run far away with her. Eva is on Cloud 9. Eva wants to leave right now, but Root tells her she has to take care of something first.
The boys are interviewing Rosendo about the night of Libia’s death. Rosendo tells them that Feo left the hacienda in the truck that night, going very fast, like he was following someone.
Root goes to see Gabi and Gabi tries to throw her out. Root says before she goes, she wants to give Gabi a big surprise. Sofia walks in and wants to know what’s going on. Root says Gabi knows a truth that Sofia would be interested to know. Sofia questions Gabi. Root eggs Gabi on to tell her. Gabi tells Sofia that Root was the one who put the snake in the girl’s bedroom! Root and Sofia are both muy impactada! Boy, that Gabi’s a slick one!
Malhaya otra vez! The boys can’t find Feo, they’ll look for him again tomorrow. Eva runs in to tell them the good news about she and Root going away together to live happily ever after. Danger Will Robinson! One big anvil about to drop. Juan says she can’t leave. Eva’s like no, you don’t understand, my hoochie mama daughter has finally accepted me, we’re out of here. Juan’s like yeah, that’s why you’re not going anywhere! Juan doesn’t want to break his promise to Pad about not telling Sofia or Eva, but the boys tell him that he can’t let Eva go. Eva is totally confused. Juan tells Eva that Root is not her daughter, she’s Gabriela’s daughter and about Raquel’s baby swapping. Eva is devastated. She fed up with this – she wants to know who the hell her daughter is! Juan finally tells Eva that Sofia is her daughter! Eva is impactada, but in a good way.

Doña Bárbara - Wed., Feb. 3: Santos admits he loves Marisela and gets some interesting reading material
[This was an excellent episode but a recapper's nightmare because it had a lot of dialog and most of it was very important to the story. So although it has taken a long time, I translated most of the conversations between Santos and DB and especially the long conversation between Santos and Cecilia where he talks about Marisela and describes his feelings about DB.]
Santos and DB-
S: Anonymous letters to me?
C: Yes. Santos, that woman still has my letters in her power and she has the nerve to come to my house and accuse me of writing anonymous letters. That woman is sick! You need to be careful because if this anonymous letter business is true, that woman is intercepting your mail.
Fausto and BP search for the notebooks and make a big mess. Fausto finds the notebooks.
Santos and Cecilia-
S: I can't take any more. You're right. This Barbara thing is like a disease and the worst of all is that it's driving me crazy, too.
C: No, you're making a mountain out of a molehill ('tú te estás ahoganan en un vaso de agua,' literally, 'you're drowning yourself in a glasss of water'), That's what's happening. The question you have to answer is very simple: do you love her, yes or no?
S: I already told you that I don't know. I don't think words exist for what I feel for her. I don't know if it is passion, obsession, desire, habit, I don't know.
C: Do you love her? Yes or no?
S: What I feel for Barbara is worse than love. It's a feeling that ties me to her more. She moves me so much. It makes me feel so bad to see what she has suffered. Cecilia, what I feel for her is compassion.
C: Santos, pity isn't love.
S: It's not pity that I feel for her. In the beginning, I did love her. I desired her with an enormous passion. But when I got to know her and understood all she had suffered in her life, that feeling was converted into... compassion.
C: It has been bad for her but she has never been a saint. Santos, she has hurt a lot of people.
S: Yes, I know but all stories have a beginning and hers was horrible. Her father and fiancé where murdered in front of her eyes and she was gang raped by five guys. She had to fight alone to make her way in a world of men. After all that, she succeeded in becoming a power in the Arauca.
C: By killing and robbing.
S: Because that's how she learned to survive.
C: But are you defending her?
S: I can't. I only wanted to explain to you why she moves me, why I have compassion for her.
C: But she is taking advantage of that.
S: While Barbara needs me, she will have me. Because the day that I leave her... that is the day she will be lost forever. The woman depends on me as her last resort (tabla de salvación). I won't let her down.
C: And Marisela?
S: I've lost Marisela and the reason for that is that she doesn't care about me. I have ruined this love myself but, look, don't worry, I know how to fight against this guilt.
C: How will you fight against this guilt, Santos? By drinking? Are you going to drown your guilt in alcohol like Barquero did?
S: Look, if I can't do it any other way, yes.
Fausto tells BP that he is pleased with what is written in the notebooks. He needs to show them to his boss.
Cecilia tells Casilda about her conversation with Santos. "It could be that Santos doesn't love DB anymore," says Cecilia, "but he did love her. I have no doubt about that and where there's fire.., well, you know. Casilda says that they have to find a big bucket of water to put out all that fire and the ashes that remain. Cecilia tells Casilda that she thinks she knows how to do this by making Santos and Marisela realize their dreams and be happy together but she doesn't know if she dares to interfere. Casilda replies that lack of daring in her life is what got Cecilia into her current situation. She urges her to take the chance.
Pajarote gives MN advice on his romance with Altagracia. He says that MN should behave very elegantly, go to Melesio's house, stand in front of Altagracia and say what he has to say. Pajarote tells MN that he is an idiot (bruto) but he is good looking. His rival, Bartolo is an idiot and ugly at the same time. Pajarote tells MN that Bartolo looks like a boiled chicken (pollo hervido).
Altagracia is furious that MN hasn´t come to see her since he returned from prison and is taking it out on her ironing. She hears someone arriving and thinks that it might be MN but it's Bartolo arriving with a bouquet and the novelty seems to have worn off very quickly because Genoveva is just barely civil to Bartolo.
Fausto shows Danger's diaries to El Sapo. He says that it is what they need to defeat their enemy. He tells El Sapo that just before the last entries in the diary, Danger wrote that DB must never find out about the oil at La Chusmita or she would kill him. El Sapo says that Danger must be dead since he has not shown up. Fausto suggests that in the hands of the authorities, these diaries would be sufficient evidence... El Sapo interrupts and says that he doesn't want the authorities involved in this. He says that business comes first. To get control of the oilfield, he has to separate Santos and DB. He tells Fausto to send the diaries to Santos, "to see if this so-called lawyer (he uses a diminutive of the word for lawyer, 'abogadito' that I am translating that way) is as just and civilized as everyone says." (All we see are Sapo's lips. Why can't we see the guy's face?)
Mujiquita comes to torment Pernalete by asking for advice from a man who can't speak. He tells Pernalete that some of DE's cattle have been stolen. He says that DE is his friend and an important person in Progresso but if Mujiquita wants to help him, he has to question the woman of his childhood friend, Santos Luzardo. He is in a difficult situation because he has to offend one of the other of his friends. Mujiquita says that he is sure that DB stole the cattle just like she did when Pernalete was police chief in Progresso. He asks Pernalete what he should do in this case.
DB comes to see BP at Danger's house, notices that the place is a shambles (patas para arriba, literally, 'with legs in the air,') and asks what BP was looking for. BP tells her that someone must have come in when he was out and tossed the place. He can't imagine who it could have been. He is not a good liar.
Altagracia is telling Bartolo to go away when MN arrives. MN strides purposefully up to Altagracia and says that he has come to tell her that all this time he has been thinking about what he feels for her. He kisses her. Bartolo sinks down in his chair.
Melquíades attacks the mailman on the steps of Altamira, holds a knife to his throat and takes his bag. Melquíades bad luck holds. Santos comes up on him in the middle of all this.
Antonio is angry that Cecilia has taken the baby to the Capital without telling him.
Santos asks Melquíades if now DB has ordered him to intercept his mail. "Think what you like," says Melquíades and slinks off.
Altagracia responds to MN's kiss and then slaps him for kissing her without permission. Altagracia then goes over and says that Bartolo is her boyfriend and will beat up MN. (Bartolo is several inches shorter and probably 50 lbs lighter than MN who just spent a year doing forced labor. He looks rather nervious.)
MN looks Bartolo up and down and tells Altagracia that if this wretch (infeliz) is her boyfriend, she should make the most of him. He leaves. "I'm really your boyfriend?" asks Bartolo. "Shut up," replies Altagracia.
Santos tells Eustaquia that he will be in his study and does not want to be disturbed. He wonders if the book has anything to do with the anonymous letters.
DB asks if BP really doesn't know who tossed Danger's place. He assures her that he doesn't have any idea and asks why she has come to see him. She says that the walls at Altamira have ears and here they can talk calmly. She asks if he has thought about how to make it so that DE has to sell his hacienda. BP says that he has, "What if we poisoned the water where DE's cattle drink?" suggests BP. Melquíades arrives with the news about the book that was delivered to Santos.
Antonio angrily tells Lucía that he won't let Cecilia take his baby away from him. She tells him that they can go to court and get an order that the baby must spend time at their house. Antonio says that he is grateful for all she has done for him and says that they should get married right away.
Marisela is happy to see Cecilia and her baby. She asks why Cecilia has come. Cecilia says that the time has come for Marisela to read the last wishes of her father.
DB comes in to Santos' study and asks what he is reading. "You really want to know, Bárbara?" says Santos, "This is an unexpected gift that was made to me. It's the diary of Mr. Danger. You didn't know that the gringo wrote his memoirs? He wrote everything, Barbara. Do you want to know what he said about you?"
Santos and DB-
DB: Are you rejecting me?
S: No, it's not a rejection, believe me. I can't love you with these doubts. You are a very beautiful woman and I would love to be with you the whole night. To make love with love, I have to feel feel safe and at peace with the woman I am with. Unfortunately, I have big doubts here (points to head) that don't give me any peace and so I can't. I just can't.

DB says that he is this way with her because he saw Marisela. Santos replies that their problems don't have anything to do with Marisela. The problem is her. It has always been her. DB says that she has changed for him but Santos replies that she has always been the same. She can't stop doing horrible things because she is always on the defensive as if everyone around her wants to harm her. DB agrees that she has done horrible things but so has Santos and those things didn't stop DB from loving Santos. Santos says that he isn't as generous as her. She has done things that he can't forgive.
Antonio asks Lucia to marry him. Don Encarnacíon gives his permission.
Los Mondragon hijack a truck carrying cattle to DE's ranch.
Santos tells DB that it isn't a question of forgiveness but of faith. "I don't believe in you anymore," says Santos, "and when I turn my back, you return to deceiving me like you have done up to now but no more, Bárbara. This can't continue." DB says that it is easy for Santos to come over all high and mighty since he hasn't gone through what she did. She says that Santos has made serious errors himself. Has he forgotten that he threw his best friend out of Altamira in a fit of rage? He asks what she is talking about and she says that he threw Antonio out like a piece of trash for falling in love with his aunt. Such behavior is accepted for a man but if a woman does it, she's a monster.
Maurice tells Marisela to get it through her head that she isn't taking anything away from DB. DB lost Santos by her behavior. Marisela says that she has seen Santos kissing DB and defending her to those closest to him. What more proof does he want? Her history with Santos ended with their kiss. It's over. Maurice says that she is wrong. That kiss is the beginning of many things. If she couldn't forget Santos before, she certainly won't be able to do so now. "The only way for this story to end," Maurice tells her, "is for Santos to stop being a Luzardo and for Marisela to stop being a Barquero." "You forgot one last name - Guaimarán," says Marisela, "DB destroyed my father, she is destroying Santos and she is destroying any possibility of love between Santos and me."
Santos tells DB that he acknowledges his terrible faults of pride and rage but he fights against them. Santos tells DB that she can't compare his fight with Antonio with the terrible things known and unknown that she had done. DB says that everything she has, her dreams, her future, it all depends on him. If she loses Santos, she says that she doesn't know what she is capable of. She tells Santos that he is in her heart and no other woman, including Marisela, can tear him out of there.
Lucía asks Antonio if he is marrying her because he wants to get back at Cecilia. Antonio denies it and says that Cecilia is in his past. Lucía says that she knows that Cecilia still loves him but she loves him too and because of that she will take the chance. She will make Antonio forget Cecilia and bury his past. She says that she will accept Antonio's child as hers and he can bring him to their house whenever he wants. At that moment, someone comes in and tells Antonio and DE about the cattle truck hijacking.
The Altamira vaqueros, now reunited, get wonderfully drunk. They try to give María Nieves advice on how to win Altagracia back.
The next morning DB tells Santos that his words hurt her more than wha all the rapists did together. Santos says that he didn't want to hurt her. DB replies that he did hurt her and it was all the fault of Marisela. Santos asks her not to start with that again. DB asks Santos to tell her that he loves her. Fortunately, he doesn't have to answer because at that moment Santos is told about the theft of DE's cattle. "I hope that you don't think that I did it," says DB. Santos leaves without saying a word.
DE and Antonio insist the Mujiquita do something about the cattle theft. Santos and Pajarote come into the police station and ask how they can help. "If you want to recover my cattle, look at El Miedo, it wouldn't surprise me if the thieves came from there," says DE angrily. He leaves. Santos asks Antonio why DE is angry at him. Antonio replies that he knows there is only one person who steals cattle and land. Antonio tells Santos that he is working for DE again and will soon be his son in law. Santos is impactado.
So the guy with the beard is Sapo´s henchman, Fausto. He is with BP at Danger´s house. BP tells him that Los Mondragon stole DE's cattle and that they are wanted men whom DB protects. BP says that he doesn't think that DB wants more of DE's cattle. She wants his land because it is adjacent to Altamira. Fausto deduces that DB wants to ruin DE so that he has to sell his hacienda. He says that information will be valuable to his boss.
DB tells Los Mondragon to sell the cattle at the border and keep half the proceeds. She tells Melquíades that her goal is to get DE's hacienda. DB tells Melquiades to watch all the correspondence that comes to Altamira. There are letters that she doesn't want delivered. She will tell him which ones.
Cecilia tells Santos about how she saw Antonio kissing Lucia when she took the baby to visit him in prison. She says that was too much for her and she will never forgive Antonio. Santos asks if she doesn't think that maybe all this was just a misunderstanding between her and Antonio. Cecilia says that she has made her decision. Cecilia asks Santos what he did in the Capital since he stayed there longer than expected. Santos gets all animated and says that a marvelous, unexpected thing happened, "I saw her. I saw Marisela! And there's more than that, I kissed her!" Cecilia is impactada.
Santos and Cecilia-
S: Marisela is beautiful with a tremendous personality. She is a strong and determined. She has studied and speaks more correctly now although she still says her foolish things. If you could see her, Aunt, so pretty, so grown up. The only problem is that she hates me.
C: Marisela hate you! Don't be ridiculous.
S: No, she told me. She doesn't want to see me. She even slapped me.
C: Men! Why are they so blind? Don't you realize that the hate she shows you is a a mask covering up what she really feels for you.
S: You think so?
C: Of course! I didn't need you to tell me all this to know that Marisela is hopelessly in love with you. What surprises me in truth is something else.
S: What?
C: Your face.
S: My face?
C: Your eyes, your expression. Your whole body is telling me that you are in love with Marisela Barquero and this is the first time that I have seen that in you at least in such an eloquent way. You love that girl. I don't have the slightest doubt.
S: Yes, Aunt. You're right. I think that I love her.
DB tells Melquíades that she doesn't want a single letter that comes from the Capital delivered o Altamira until she sees it first. She says that she can't understand who would send Santos an anonymous letter saying that she is a murderer. Melquíades reminds her that not all her enemies are underground. El Sapo still remains.
Fausto asks what Danger did all day. BP says that Danger hunted, drank and played dominoes in town. BP tells Fausto that in the evenings, Danger wrote stuff in notebooks. Fausto asks where the notebooks are. BP doesn´t know.
Santos and Cecilia-
C: Tell me what you are going to do about this.
S: I don't know, Aunt. I know much less since what I just confessed to you.
C: OK, you should feel relieved that you finally know for sure that, that Marisela is the woman of your life.
S: Aunt, I am very confused. It true, I love Marisela. It's what I always felt inside me and I didn't want to admit it. I was ashamed to admit that this girl enchanted me and on the other hand, there was Barbara.
C: Oh Santos! Please tell me that you don't love that witch anymore.
S: I don't even know what I feel for her. My life is a hell of doubts. Barbara is hounding me all the time. Sometimes I want to put an end to it but but she is all wrapped up with me, she harasses me and when I see her so fragile and waiting for my love, I don't know if I love her or if it's only desire or need. Who knows what what it is? Not me.
C: Santos, that woman is the most manipulative being on the face of the earth. Yesterday, she was here in my living room, going crazy. She accused me of writing anonymous letters and sending them to you in the mail. I don't know what she was saying but...Antonio asks Lucia to marry him. Don Encarnacíon gives his permission.

He asks what she is talking about and she says that he threw Antonio out like a piece of trash for falling in love with his aunt. Such behavior is accepted for a man but if a woman does it, she's a monster.
Maurice tells Marisela to get it through her head that she isn't taking anything away from DB. DB lost Santos by her behavior. Marisela says that she has seen Santos kissing DB and defending her to those closest to him. What more proof does he want? Her history with Santos ended with their kiss. It's over. Maurice says that she is wrong. That kiss is the beginning of many things. If she couldn't forget Santos before, she certainly won't be able to do so now. "The only way for this story to end," Maurice tells her, "is for Santos to stop being a Luzardo and for Marisela to stop being a Barquero." "You forgot one last name - Guaimarán," says Marisela, "DB destroyed my father, she is destroying Santos and she is destroying any possibility of love between Santos and me."
Santos tells DB that he acknowledges his terrible faults of pride and rage but he fights against them. Santos tells DB that she can't compare his fight with Antonio with the terrible things known and unknown that she had done. DB says that everything she has, her dreams, her future, it all depends on him. If she loses Santos, she says that she doesn't know what she is capable of. She tells Santos that he is in her heart and no other woman, including Marisela, can tear him out of there.
Lucía asks Antonio if he is marrying her because he wants to get back at Cecilia. Antonio denies it and says that Cecilia is in his past. Lucía says that she knows that Cecilia still loves him but she loves him too and because of that she will take the chance. She will make Antonio forget Cecilia and bury his past. She says that she will accept Antonio's child as hers and he can bring him to their house whenever he wants. At that moment, someone comes in and tells Antonio and DE about the cattle truck hijacking.
The Altamira vaqueros, now reunited, get wonderfully drunk. They try to give María Nieves advice on how to win Altagracia back.
The next morning DB tells Santos that his words hurt her more than wha all the rapists did together. Santos says that he didn't want to hurt her. DB replies that he did hurt her and it was all the fault of Marisela. Santos asks her not to start with that again. DB asks Santos to tell her that he loves her. Fortunately, he doesn't have to answer because at that moment Santos is told about the theft of DE's cattle. "I hope that you don't think that I did it," says DB. Santos leaves without saying a word.
DE and Antonio insist the Mujiquita do something about the cattle theft. Santos and Pajarote come into the police station and ask how they can help. "If you want to recover my cattle, look at El Miedo, it wouldn't surprise me if the thieves came from there," says DE angrily. He leaves. Santos asks Antonio why DE is angry at him. Antonio replies that he knows there is only one person who steals cattle and land. Antonio tells Santos that he is working for DE again and will soon be his son in law. Santos is impactado.
So the guy with the beard is Sapo´s henchman, Fausto. He is with BP at Danger´s house. BP tells him that Los Mondragon stole DE's cattle and that they are wanted men whom DB protects. BP says that he doesn't think that DB wants more of DE's cattle. She wants his land because it is adjacent to Altamira. Fausto deduces that DB wants to ruin DE so that he has to sell his hacienda. He says that information will be valuable to his boss.
DB tells Los Mondragon to sell the cattle at the border and keep half the proceeds. She tells Melquíades that her goal is to get DE's hacienda. DB tells Melquiades to watch all the correspondence that comes to Altamira. There are letters that she doesn't want delivered. She will tell him which ones.
Cecilia tells Santos about how she saw Antonio kissing Lucia when she took the baby to visit him in prison. She says that was too much for her and she will never forgive Antonio. Santos asks if she doesn't think that maybe all this was just a misunderstanding between her and Antonio. Cecilia says that she has made her decision. Cecilia asks Santos what he did in the Capital since he stayed there longer than expected. Santos gets all animated and says that a marvelous, unexpected thing happened, "I saw her. I saw Marisela! And there's more than that, I kissed her!" Cecilia is impactada.
Santos and Cecilia-
S: Marisela is beautiful with a tremendous personality. She is a strong and determined. She has studied and speaks more correctly now although she still says her foolish things. If you could see her, Aunt, so pretty, so grown up. The only problem is that she hates me.
C: Marisela hate you! Don't be ridiculous.
S: No, she told me. She doesn't want to see me. She even slapped me.
C: Men! Why are they so blind? Don't you realize that the hate she shows you is a a mask covering up what she really feels for you.
S: You think so?
C: Of course! I didn't need you to tell me all this to know that Marisela is hopelessly in love with you. What surprises me in truth is something else.
S: What?
C: Your face.
S: My face?
C: Your eyes, your expression. Your whole body is telling me that you are in love with Marisela Barquero and this is the first time that I have seen that in you at least in such an eloquent way. You love that girl. I don't have the slightest doubt.

Fausto asks what Danger did all day. BP says that Danger hunted, drank and played dominoes in town. BP tells Fausto that in the evenings, Danger wrote stuff in notebooks. Fausto asks where the notebooks are. BP doesn´t know.

C: Tell me what you are going to do about this.
S: I don't know, Aunt. I know much less since what I just confessed to you.
C: OK, you should feel relieved that you finally know for sure that, that Marisela is the woman of your life.
S: Aunt, I am very confused. It true, I love Marisela. It's what I always felt inside me and I didn't want to admit it. I was ashamed to admit that this girl enchanted me and on the other hand, there was Barbara.
C: Oh Santos! Please tell me that you don't love that witch anymore.
S: I don't even know what I feel for her. My life is a hell of doubts. Barbara is hounding me all the time. Sometimes I want to put an end to it but but she is all wrapped up with me, she harasses me and when I see her so fragile and waiting for my love, I don't know if I love her or if it's only desire or need. Who knows what what it is? Not me.
S: Anonymous letters to me?
C: Yes. Santos, that woman still has my letters in her power and she has the nerve to come to my house and accuse me of writing anonymous letters. That woman is sick! You need to be careful because if this anonymous letter business is true, that woman is intercepting your mail.
Fausto and BP search for the notebooks and make a big mess. Fausto finds the notebooks.

S: I can't. I only wanted to explain to you why she moves me, why I have compassion for her.
C: But she is taking advantage of that.

C: And Marisela?
S: I've lost Marisela and the reason for that is that she doesn't care about me. I have ruined this love myself but, look, don't worry, I know how to fight against this guilt.
C: How will you fight against this guilt, Santos? By drinking? Are you going to drown your guilt in alcohol like Barquero did?
S: Look, if I can't do it any other way, yes.
Fausto tells BP that he is pleased with what is written in the notebooks. He needs to show them to his boss.
Cecilia tells Casilda about her conversation with Santos. "It could be that Santos doesn't love DB anymore," says Cecilia, "but he did love her. I have no doubt about that and where there's fire.., well, you know. Casilda says that they have to find a big bucket of water to put out all that fire and the ashes that remain. Cecilia tells Casilda that she thinks she knows how to do this by making Santos and Marisela realize their dreams and be happy together but she doesn't know if she dares to interfere. Casilda replies that lack of daring in her life is what got Cecilia into her current situation. She urges her to take the chance.
Pajarote gives MN advice on his romance with Altagracia. He says that MN should behave very elegantly, go to Melesio's house, stand in front of Altagracia and say what he has to say. Pajarote tells MN that he is an idiot (bruto) but he is good looking. His rival, Bartolo is an idiot and ugly at the same time. Pajarote tells MN that Bartolo looks like a boiled chicken (pollo hervido).
Altagracia is furious that MN hasn´t come to see her since he returned from prison and is taking it out on her ironing. She hears someone arriving and thinks that it might be MN but it's Bartolo arriving with a bouquet and the novelty seems to have worn off very quickly because Genoveva is just barely civil to Bartolo.
Fausto shows Danger's diaries to El Sapo. He says that it is what they need to defeat their enemy. He tells El Sapo that just before the last entries in the diary, Danger wrote that DB must never find out about the oil at La Chusmita or she would kill him. El Sapo says that Danger must be dead since he has not shown up. Fausto suggests that in the hands of the authorities, these diaries would be sufficient evidence... El Sapo interrupts and says that he doesn't want the authorities involved in this. He says that business comes first. To get control of the oilfield, he has to separate Santos and DB. He tells Fausto to send the diaries to Santos, "to see if this so-called lawyer (he uses a diminutive of the word for lawyer, 'abogadito' that I am translating that way) is as just and civilized as everyone says." (All we see are Sapo's lips. Why can't we see the guy's face?)
Mujiquita comes to torment Pernalete by asking for advice from a man who can't speak. He tells Pernalete that some of DE's cattle have been stolen. He says that DE is his friend and an important person in Progresso but if Mujiquita wants to help him, he has to question the woman of his childhood friend, Santos Luzardo. He is in a difficult situation because he has to offend one of the other of his friends. Mujiquita says that he is sure that DB stole the cattle just like she did when Pernalete was police chief in Progresso. He asks Pernalete what he should do in this case.
DB comes to see BP at Danger's house, notices that the place is a shambles (patas para arriba, literally, 'with legs in the air,') and asks what BP was looking for. BP tells her that someone must have come in when he was out and tossed the place. He can't imagine who it could have been. He is not a good liar.
Altagracia is telling Bartolo to go away when MN arrives. MN strides purposefully up to Altagracia and says that he has come to tell her that all this time he has been thinking about what he feels for her. He kisses her. Bartolo sinks down in his chair.
Melquíades attacks the mailman on the steps of Altamira, holds a knife to his throat and takes his bag. Melquíades bad luck holds. Santos comes up on him in the middle of all this.
Antonio is angry that Cecilia has taken the baby to the Capital without telling him.Santos asks Melquíades if now DB has ordered him to intercept his mail. "Think what you like," says Melquíades and slinks off.
Altagracia responds to MN's kiss and then slaps him for kissing her without permission. Altagracia then goes over and says that Bartolo is her boyfriend and will beat up MN. (Bartolo is several inches shorter and probably 50 lbs lighter than MN who just spent a year doing forced labor. He looks rather nervious.)
MN looks Bartolo up and down and tells Altagracia that if this wretch (infeliz) is her boyfriend, she should make the most of him. He leaves. "I'm really your boyfriend?" asks Bartolo. "Shut up," replies Altagracia.
Santos tells Eustaquia that he will be in his study and does not want to be disturbed. He wonders if the book has anything to do with the anonymous letters.
DB asks if BP really doesn't know who tossed Danger's place. He assures her that he doesn't have any idea and asks why she has come to see him. She says that the walls at Altamira have ears and here they can talk calmly. She asks if he has thought about how to make it so that DE has to sell his hacienda. BP says that he has, "What if we poisoned the water where DE's cattle drink?" suggests BP. Melquíades arrives with the news about the book that was delivered to Santos.
Antonio angrily tells Lucía that he won't let Cecilia take his baby away from him. She tells him that they can go to court and get an order that the baby must spend time at their house. Antonio says that he is grateful for all she has done for him and says that they should get married right away.
Marisela is happy to see Cecilia and her baby. She asks why Cecilia has come. Cecilia says that the time has come for Marisela to read the last wishes of her father.
DB comes in to Santos' study and asks what he is reading. "You really want to know, Bárbara?" says Santos, "This is an unexpected gift that was made to me. It's the diary of Mr. Danger. You didn't know that the gringo wrote his memoirs? He wrote everything, Barbara. Do you want to know what he said about you?"

Las tontas no van #44, Wed 2/4. Chava gets better, Marissa gets worse, and Candy says, "Get lost."
Kris had something come up, and she won’t be able to write Wednesday’s recap. I told her I’ll do a bare-bones version. It’s 11 PM and I’m starting it right now. Bear with me. I’m not taking the time to decipher CC’s, so if I get something wrong, please correct me.
Isabel and Jaime are discussing wedding plans. Jaime is eager to get married as soon as possible. He is particularly looking forward to the honeymoon. Isabel is fretting. She’s worried that they need to work out all the details of her household, such as, who will take care of the girls while Santiago is on his honeymoon?
At the hospital, we see a montage of Chava’s recovery. So those who predicted that he’d be well by Friday were right, except that more time passed in TV land.
Candy goes to the big house to implore Luc to tell anything she knows about where Charly is. Meño is really suffering from the loss. Luc claims she hasn’t heard a word from him, but Candy’s look says she doesn’t believe her.
In the hospital cafeteria, Pat tells Candy that Chava needs to know that “I’m his dad.” Candy and Pat are working together instead of screaming at each other. Santiago is glad to see that Candy is finally talking to Pat as she should have, eight years ago. Santi is also glad, for Chava’s sake. But along with that, you can see some worry about what this reconciliation with Pat portends for him. Nonetheless, when the doctors tell Candy that Chava had a complete recovery, and Candy wholeheartedly thanks Santi, Santi reminds her that the one she really needs to thank is Pat; he’s the one who saved Chava’s life.
Back in Santi’s office, he gives Candy a supportive hug. She says, “You’ll take any excuse you can find, to hug me.” With the crisis over, Santiago feels liberated to return to some good-natured blatant flirting. Candy tells him, “There’ll be no more of that. You’re engaged.” At this point I threw my shoe at the TV. While Candy has a crisis, she wants Santi at her back and call, 24x7, oh, and thank you for the several thousand dollars you provided for the operation. But my son’s all better now, so leave me alone. So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Isabel stops by the office, and her son notices how happy she has looked lately. “Is it love, mama?” Yes, that’s what is making her so happy. Santiago cowboys up. “Then I wish you every happiness. He’d better treat you well or he’ll have me to answer to.” (Sound familiar, anyone?) Isabel notices that, while she’s very excited about her upcoming wedding, the same cannot be said for her son. He doesn’t have an answer for her. Chalk up another very sweet scene between Santiago and his mother.

It’s.. it’s.. it’s Patricio, and Pat walks in with Beto. “Pat is your father and Beto is your brother.” Hugs all around. Chava says, “I want to hug my mom and dad.” Chava is thrilled. Pat is fulfilled. Candy is stressed. Alicia walks in and has a FOJ. “Ain’t that cute?” Soledad picks that moment to walk in. Alicia thinks it’s quite a Payton Place we have here. She asserts loudly, “Well, he’s my HUSBAND! Pat reminds her of the uncomfortable truth: Not exactly. He never divorced Candy, and she’s not dead, so it’s bigamy. Alicia, ever the loving sister, reprises her FOJ and informs Pat, “She hid your son from you 8 years. You have legal right to punish her.” For being “totally in love” with Pat for so many years, she has absolutely no idea what makes him tick!
Tina and Lucía are in the kitchen. Tina is in on Lucía’s secret, and she is helping prepare a lunch tray for Charly. In the best telenovela tradition, Donato is listening behind the door. He hides and watches Luc take the tray down to the basement. We all knew Santi would find out that Charly’s staying there. The question is, will Don rat out Tina for being an accomplice?
Raúl goes to Santiago’s office to make sure his friend does right by his sister. He says, “You wanna’ be a good dad? Forget about Candy.” Santi reminds him that he’s a good father, but pardon me, best buddy, this is for me the couple to resolve, not the metiche future brother-in-law. IOW, butt out.
Sabes que? I’d feel a whole lot more compassion for pregnant Marissa and her wandering, disinterested boyfriend, if she hadn’t lied about her fertility status in order to entrap him with a pregnancy. Just like Alicia, she used dirty tricks to capture the man she wanted, and just like Alicia, she’ll end up with a man who resents her because he wants to be with Candy. If they’re going to play like that, they have to edit the “happily ever after” line out of their stories.
Out on the street, in a FOJ, Alicia is terrified that Pat is going to move out. He tells her he doesn’t want Candy and doesn’t intend to live with her. Alicia squares off with him and demands, “Then divorce her.”
While Pat and Alicia are on the street pondering living arrangements, Candy and Soledad are in the kitchen pondering sleeping arrangements. Candy is shocked that Soledad is sleeping with Pat. She says, “How can you be so stupid?” Did you ever wonder how Candy keeps any friends? Sol tells Candy that Alicia knows and has accepted it. Maybe Alicia does, but Candy doesn’t. She kicks Soledad out.
Remember the sweet popcorn, the night Candy stayed at Santiago’s house because of hamster infestation? Well, tonight we have bitter popcorn. Santiago is on the same sofa in the same TV room. Marissa comes in and tries to sit on his lap but kinda’ awkwardly falls, half on his lap and half on the couch. Santiago looks like he’d rather be passing a kidney stone right now. She invites him to feel her belly for kicks, but he doesn’t feel anything. Then she puts her head in his lap. Isn’t that sweet and warm? Except that every time that he starts to doze off, she insists that he wake up. We’re supposed to be having a loving moment here, Buster! Shape up!
Back at her apartment, Marissa is talking to her belly. “When we’re married, your papa will live for me alone. And for you. We need to send Luc somewhere. Like Europe.”
At her house, Candy and Pat are trading accusations.
Candy: You slept with my sister and never apologized.
Pat: And I won’t.
Candy: And you made Soledad pregnant when I thought I was your only.

Sabes que? I’d feel a whole lot more compassion for pregnant Marissa and her wandering, disinterested boyfriend, if she hadn’t lied about her fertility status in order to entrap him with a pregnancy. Just like Alicia, she used dirty tricks to capture the man she wanted, and just like Alicia, she’ll end up with a man who resents her because he wants to be with Candy. If they’re going to play like that, they have to edit the “happily ever after” line out of their stories.
Out on the street, in a FOJ, Alicia is terrified that Pat is going to move out. He tells her he doesn’t want Candy and doesn’t intend to live with her. Alicia squares off with him and demands, “Then divorce her.”
While Pat and Alicia are on the street pondering living arrangements, Candy and Soledad are in the kitchen pondering sleeping arrangements. Candy is shocked that Soledad is sleeping with Pat. She says, “How can you be so stupid?” Did you ever wonder how Candy keeps any friends? Sol tells Candy that Alicia knows and has accepted it. Maybe Alicia does, but Candy doesn’t. She kicks Soledad out.
Remember the sweet popcorn, the night Candy stayed at Santiago’s house because of hamster infestation? Well, tonight we have bitter popcorn. Santiago is on the same sofa in the same TV room. Marissa comes in and tries to sit on his lap but kinda’ awkwardly falls, half on his lap and half on the couch. Santiago looks like he’d rather be passing a kidney stone right now. She invites him to feel her belly for kicks, but he doesn’t feel anything. Then she puts her head in his lap. Isn’t that sweet and warm? Except that every time that he starts to doze off, she insists that he wake up. We’re supposed to be having a loving moment here, Buster! Shape up!
Back at her apartment, Marissa is talking to her belly. “When we’re married, your papa will live for me alone. And for you. We need to send Luc somewhere. Like Europe.”
At her house, Candy and Pat are trading accusations.
Candy: You slept with my sister and never apologized.
Pat: And I won’t.
Candy: And you made Soledad pregnant when I thought I was your only.

Isabel and Marissa are bringing packages home from a shopping trip. Mar says Luc is impossible, and Isabel says she’s just a normal teenager. Donato looks at the pregnant woman struggling with the packages but refuses to help. “I won’t help her because she’s going to fire me.” Isabel is stunned.
Chaya insists that Ed help with household duties. He can cook or he can do the laundry. He is his usual pig self, and threatens to go out for the night if she doesn’t watch out. Chaya doesn’t watch out. Ed heads for the door and keeps giving Chaya opportunities to call him back. Which she doesn’t.
My notes are unclear on this part. Please correct me if I’m wrong. Meño counsels Candy that she has to face the consequences of playing dead for 8 years. She sidesteps. Candy says Santiago prefers his pregnant novia. She whines, “I just wanna’ talk with him.”
In the basement, Lucía is trying to cheer up Charly, but he’s too angry and depressed.
Outside Candy’s house, Gregoria, Alicia, and Candy have a lovely mother-daughter chat.
Alicia: Leave my husband alone or we’ll take your son.
Candy: He has amante, 2 sons, now me.
Alicia: He belongs to me.

We start off with a repeat of last night’s episode with Vicente standing in the doorway looking for Rocio and finding her with Humberto the doctor.
Amador tells Marichuy that Eduardo can stay with Beatrice, but that child is his and should be carrying his name. Marichuy tells him that the baby needs a mother and father and who will raise him in a happy home. Amador tells Marichuy to be careful because JM could find out about the baby and with all his money can take the baby away.
PA is reading the article in the paper about Ceci’s accident to Cande. The paper said that the airbag did not deploy in the vehicle and doctors say that she has internal injuries.
Vicente walks to a nearby table while Humberto the doctor toasts to love with Rocio looking uncomfortable.
Marichuy tells Amador that JM will not be taking her baby from her. JM Jr. only has her and no one else. Amador tells her that he will take his baby away from Beatrice. Marichuy tells him that Beatrice will not allow that to happen.
JM goes to visit Patricio and Ceci in the hospital.
Marichuy goes on to say to Amador that before anyone takes her baby away, she will kill them. You have no idea what I am capable of doing to protect my son. Amador tells her that JM is a man and much stronger than her. He also has what you do not and that is money. He can pay anyone to take away your child. She tells Amador the only way JM will find out is if he or Estephania tells him.
Patricio tells JM that Ceci suffered internal injuries and her prognosis does not look good. JM asks if there is anything that he can do. Patricio tells him the doctors are doing all they can. Humberto the doctor asks why Rocio is not toasting with him. Rocio tells him that she does not love him, but Vicente. She doesn’t want to hurt him. The whole time Vicente is listening and goes up to her and asks her to dance.
Olga comes to visit Marichuy and they talk about her visit with Purita. Cande goes in out of breath and tells Marichuy that Ceci was in an accident and is dying.
Patricio tells JM that it is all her fault. JM asks who he is talking about and finds out its Marichuy.

Ceci went back to talk to her again and the accident happened. If Ceci dies it will be on Marichuy’s conscience forever.
Rocio asks Vicente if she is dreaming. She starts dancing with Vicente totally forgetting about Humberto the doctor. Eduardo sees them and smiles along with Elsa, Nelson and Becky. Humberto the doctor not so much.

Rocio wants to know how Vicente did it. He tells her that he wanted to regain her love and that it has helped him to get better. Humberto the doctor finally stands up and says to Rocio that he wants to tell her that one knows when they have lost and hopes that they will be happy and shakes Vicente’s hand. Elsa goes out to the balcony where Nelson is observing the party and says that she’s happy to see Rocio and Vicente together again. Nelson tells Elsa that Rocio and Vicente have the rest of there lives to be together, but they don’t. He asks her to love him till the end.
Omar questions JM on Ceci’s prognosis and confesses to JM that it is absurd to think that he can find Liria (Marichuy) in the streets. But that is all he can do. JM tells him that he found Marichuy. Tomorrow he will go and talk to her.
Eduardo asks Beatrice where the baby is. Beatrice says he fell asleep after eating. She thanks him for defending her from Amador. Also for making him believe that he was going to marry her and that you were going to take care of the baby. Eduardo tells her that he was serious. She says that it cannot happen. When he questions her as to why, she tells him that she doesn’t need to tell him. But thank you for doing it. He looks sad.
Omar asks JM why he is concerned about Ceci and JM informs him that she is the mother of Marichuy. That Ceci went to see her at the theater. Marichuy became an actress after our separation. Omar also asks him about Estephania. He tells him the story. (which I will not go into since we know it all)
Ceci is lying in the hospital bed and Patricio is looking on as the doctor examines her. He asks the doctor if there is anything more that can be done.
Marichuy is talking to JM Jr. She tells him how bad she feels about treating Ceci and recalls her harsh words to her. She prays to god that she can see her and ask for forgiveness.
The doctor tells Patricio that Ceci suffered massive internal injuries and they have to wait. To have faith. PA comes in to see Ceci and tells Patricio that he found out what happened thru the newspaper. He asks Patricio how she is. Ceci says PA’s name.
Isa asks Estephania how Ceci is. Estephania says very badly and she could die. Isa says this cause for a celebration. Because if she dies, Patricio will be alone and in our hands. (what an evil witch) Isa puts music on and pours wine. She fantasies herself back at the Velardes house living the grand life again. They toast to a bright future and the death of Ceci.
Rocio and Mayita come back from the party. Mayita is tired and Rocio says she has a lot to tell him. JM wants to put Mayita in bed first, but Rocio says she will do it. JM wonders what happened at the party to put Rocio in such a good mood.

Estephania says that Patricio will be in there hands and that she always gets what she wants from him. Suddenly Estephania grabs her arms and Isa asks her what’s wrong. Estephania says that suddenly she felt strange. Like something just happened. Isa thinks that it’s because Ceci may have died. They toast again.
Marichuy is trying on her wig and thinks that it looks weird. Cande asks her if she is nervous being in front of a lot of people. Marichuy tells her that she is very nervous. She keeps trying on wigs and keeps rejecting them. Cande asks her why Amador was so upset yesterday. She explains to her about what happened the day before with Beatrice and the baby at the baptism.
The lawyer wants Blanca to act different. She seems to into herself, timid.
JM bought tickets to Marichuy’s first play and wants Omar to go with him.
Cande tells Marichuy that she should not be sad, but happy. Cande tells her to call the Velardes house and ask how Ceci is doing.
Patricio curses the day they found out about there daughter.

Fuego, Wed., Feb. 4: The enemy of my enemy is my husband.
Well that was a nice Countdown with Keith Olbermann intro. Speaking of interesting music; let’s drum-up a gay afternoon orchestra and play light, airy British picnic music as Gabi tells herself she’s the Angel of the Apocalypse…Bwahahahaha. More like Angel of halter tops gone amiss. Clearly, the musical director kicked back a few of whatever Ricky keeps in his secret pouch before compiling today’s melodious mix of mishap. It’s the perfect interlude for a declaration of war—that is, if you’re fighting over who get’s the last short bread cookie at a riverside brunch…
Sally Scarface feels compelled and confident enough to repeat something Six-feet under Raquel told her about Sofia; it’s probably not true. As if we didn’t know since day one, Sofia’s real mommy is Eva. And everyone in North America knows, except Sofa who, among other things, lacks a cable connection and much less a tin can and string. Don’t you all be so surprised all at once.
Well, we know Gabi is thinking clearly again on account of the flowing amounts of liquor. Some people are simply better when they’re not conscious. As if this weren’t enough, Coyote is now officially public enemy “numero uno,” and will probably attack her at any time now. That’s why she has taken up the custom of shooting at anything that isn’t her beloved goblet. Then again, maybe she shouldn’t shoot her ex-husband because, as Thomas Jefferson Washington Carver so prophetically said; the enemy of my enemy is my husband…
Seems that PadTad had a run-in with one wild, demonic donkey and lived to tell about it. The whole town, or at least the small handful of people who weren’t holding out for his downfall, is present and is lead in a recalcitrant chant commemorating the great Paddy by the ever-clueless Quinti. However, nothing was sweeter to my ears than the heartfelt rendition of “Ave Maria” Franco so generously regaled to us. I am confident that you will appreciate the true beauty after considering that this is post-South Beach marijuana bust; it’s obviously taken a lot for him to return to voice-over quality in a sound-controlled booth. Hallelujah, PadTad, Jesus and the Saints.
After many years of desperately searching for a reason to be bitter and kill innocent people, Sally finally summons Juan to get payback for Ricky’s brutal murder of the only remaining proof that someone actually found her desirable many, many moons ago. Can’t you see that memories of the drunken sex-capade are all she has left to cling to? You must kill Ricky, Juan-y.
The girls are all like “what a lovely mass, and Franco should open the SuperBowl, blah, etc., blah.” Gabi’s all like “did he die, did he die? God, I hope so.” No, he’s alive and preaching to any inanimate objects that will listen. “What a pity,” only she thought bubbles this one because she’s so drunk she forgot about her own personal vendettas and is just more “chill” like this. Note to criticizing AA rep. Sofia and discerning reader: If the traps, landmines, tree explosions, cyanide pills, heart conditions, and hidden strings on the steps didn’t kill her, it’s almost certain that the alcohol won’t either.
In a performance worthy of Mighty Joe Juan Robles-Reyes, Ricky goes to Sally in a fearful fit of tears and “forgive me’s.” She breaks down into one of her blind rages and delivers a performance curiously reminiscent of that of little Hellen Keller in the 2000 ABC remake of “The Miracle Worker.” No, honey, that's the well, I'm over hear. That’s just like life to introduce us to our estranged narco-trafficking children and take them away before we can formally accept to ourselves and others that they are the biological fruits of our loins.
In keeping with tonight’s British country side war scene Sundays, Juan is on his own less-taken war path of vengeance for Ricky’s wrongdoings. Just when you thought his thickheaded astuteness and insistence were unbreakable, Root convinces him not to kill the father of her late brother. As if he were even remotely capable, he asserts that he will gather the compromising evidence to ruin Ricky for good. See, look, I have a piece of paper he once signed in my armoire—clearly that means he killed Raquel. And see this belt; Gabi had it in her possession, so that means he killed my parents. And he thought Fernie would have been old enough to kill his parents… Yes, this scene is the culmination of a year of torturous ignorance and naïveté. Pinch me, I’m dreaming…
After taking his own son’s life, the only way Ricky can make it right is by taking more lives. Like, for instance, Gabi, who, as we all know, forced Ricky to kill Coyote. Then of course, there’s that whore Sofia who probably looked at Coyote the wrong way. Quick, while he lets go of Sofia, go tell Juan that he’s got Sofia at gun point. The monstrous Ricky goes for a stab at Gabi. Just then Fernie intervenes with his gun. If she dies, then there’s no hope at him becoming universal heir or even horse-shit scooper-upper. Not so fast, because faster than a speeding bullet is a speeding 45-year-old man in boots and mariachi gear. Take that, old man, and that, and that. How do those spurs taste? Just like WWF, Juan runs up the stairs, sits on Ricky’s face, then rolls him down the stairs. You killed my parents, I kill you. Now taste this leather belt. Gasp! If only we could all put 40 years of history behind us and all get lives… “Beg me, beg me.” Juan contemplates killing Ricky. Yes, even though this is something Juan thought about every day of his life and dreamed about in the womb, the subject still requires more contemplation. In this side of the ring, Gabi is encouraging the death of this murderer. In the other corner Sofia, who is pretty much the town psychologist, convinces Juan to not kill Ricky. That’s right; turn him over to the local (equally incompetent) authorities. Just when you thought the sheriff was going to lock Ricky away for the night, Ricky punched him out and ran away. I am so putting in for a federal grant for this police locale…
Thus, we have our wild horse chase. Which, I’m willing to bet is the same exact scene they used when Juan’s baby was missing and he went tumbling down the waterfall for a moon-light swim.
The other happy couple, i.e. Gabi and Fernie, are enjoying a nice cognac in bed while contemplating whom to kill next. How about my licentious daughter Root? We will kill her for having a better leather push-up. Indeed, dear.
So, Ricky is all out and about and shooting at shadows or anything else that moves. Then he sees Juan right in front of him and stops shooting. Just for that, he deserves to die. Anyway, the gangs all there in their Disneyworld ponchos and BB guns. I hope he’s ready to meet his maker…
Well, it just goes to show you, as in every other episode, if you get enough alcohol and barbiturates in someone, you can get them to make you the universal heir to their fortune. Provided they haven’t wasted it on halter tops and brandy.
Once an incompetent buffoon, always an incompetent buffoon. I can’t even describe how stupid this death scene was. But, if you have to know… Juan had several opportunities to kill his father’s assassin; but he didn’t. Then, Ricky almost killed Juan on several occasions; but he didn’t. Then Ricky almost fell off a cliff after Juan shot his snake belt (funny that the thing that killed his parents saved him), but Franco told Juan to pull him back up because “the Reyes aren’t killers.” So, Juan turned his back to the storm and almost got stabbed, except a Gardner snake slithered on Ricky’s boot and, sadly enough, forced him to drop his knife and fall off the cliff which was easily 30 yards away. Now the Reyes will never have to feel guilty about beating up an old man who might not have killed their parents. Yay for moral justice!

Seems that PadTad had a run-in with one wild, demonic donkey and lived to tell about it. The whole town, or at least the small handful of people who weren’t holding out for his downfall, is present and is lead in a recalcitrant chant commemorating the great Paddy by the ever-clueless Quinti. However, nothing was sweeter to my ears than the heartfelt rendition of “Ave Maria” Franco so generously regaled to us. I am confident that you will appreciate the true beauty after considering that this is post-South Beach marijuana bust; it’s obviously taken a lot for him to return to voice-over quality in a sound-controlled booth. Hallelujah, PadTad, Jesus and the Saints.
After many years of desperately searching for a reason to be bitter and kill innocent people, Sally finally summons Juan to get payback for Ricky’s brutal murder of the only remaining proof that someone actually found her desirable many, many moons ago. Can’t you see that memories of the drunken sex-capade are all she has left to cling to? You must kill Ricky, Juan-y.
The girls are all like “what a lovely mass, and Franco should open the SuperBowl, blah, etc., blah.” Gabi’s all like “did he die, did he die? God, I hope so.” No, he’s alive and preaching to any inanimate objects that will listen. “What a pity,” only she thought bubbles this one because she’s so drunk she forgot about her own personal vendettas and is just more “chill” like this. Note to criticizing AA rep. In a performance worthy of Mighty Joe Juan Robles-Reyes, Ricky goes to Sally in a fearful fit of tears and “forgive me’s.” She breaks down into one of her blind rages and delivers a performance curiously reminiscent of that of little Hellen Keller in the 2000 ABC remake of “The Miracle Worker.” No, honey, that's the well, I'm over hear. That’s just like life to introduce us to our estranged narco-trafficking children and take them away before we can formally accept to ourselves and others that they are the biological fruits of our loins.
In keeping with tonight’s British country side war scene Sundays, Juan is on his own less-taken war path of vengeance for Ricky’s wrongdoings. Just when you thought his thickheaded astuteness and insistence were unbreakable, Root convinces him not to kill the father of her late brother. As if he were even remotely capable, he asserts that he will gather the compromising evidence to ruin Ricky for good. See, look, I have a piece of paper he once signed in my armoire—clearly that means he killed Raquel. And see this belt; Gabi had it in her possession, so that means he killed my parents. And he thought Fernie would have been old enough to kill his parents… Yes, this scene is the culmination of a year of torturous ignorance and naïveté. Pinch me, I’m dreaming…
After taking his own son’s life, the only way Ricky can make it right is by taking more lives. Like, for instance, Gabi, who, as we all know, forced Ricky to kill Coyote. The monstrous Ricky goes for a stab at Gabi. Just then Fernie intervenes with his gun. If she dies, then there’s no hope at him becoming universal heir or even horse-shit scooper-upper. Not so fast, because faster than a speeding bullet is a speeding 45-year-old man in boots and mariachi gear. Take that, old man, and that, and that. How do those spurs taste? Just like WWF, Juan runs up the stairs, sits on Ricky’s face, then rolls him down the stairs. You killed my parents, I kill you. Now taste this leather belt. Gasp! If only we could all put 40 years of history behind us and all get lives… “Beg me, beg me.” Juan contemplates killing Ricky. Yes, even though this is something Juan thought about every day of his life and dreamed about in the womb, the subject still requires more contemplation. In this side of the ring, Gabi is encouraging the death of this murderer. In the other corner Sofia, who is pretty much the town psychologist, convinces Juan to not kill Ricky. That’s right; turn him over to the local (equally incompetent) authorities. Just when you thought the sheriff was going to lock Ricky away for the night, Ricky punched him out and ran away. I am so putting in for a federal grant for this police locale…
Thus, we have our wild horse chase. Which, I’m willing to bet is the same exact scene they used when Juan’s baby was missing and he went tumbling down the waterfall for a moon-light swim.
The other happy couple, i.e. Gabi and Fernie, are enjoying a nice cognac in bed while contemplating whom to kill next. How about my licentious daughter Root? We will kill her for having a better leather push-up. Indeed, dear.
So, Ricky is all out and about and shooting at shadows or anything else that moves. Then he sees Juan right in front of him and stops shooting. Just for that, he deserves to die. Anyway, the gangs all there in their Disneyworld ponchos and BB guns. I hope he’s ready to meet his maker…
Well, it just goes to show you, as in every other episode, if you get enough alcohol and barbiturates in someone, you can get them to make you the universal heir to their fortune. Provided they haven’t wasted it on halter tops and brandy.
Once an incompetent buffoon, always an incompetent buffoon. I can’t even describe how stupid this death scene was. But, if you have to know… Juan had several opportunities to kill his father’s assassin; but he didn’t. Then, Ricky almost killed Juan on several occasions; but he didn’t. Then Ricky almost fell off a cliff after Juan shot his snake belt (funny that the thing that killed his parents saved him), but Franco told Juan to pull him back up because “the Reyes aren’t killers.” So, Juan turned his back to the storm and almost got stabbed, except a Gardner snake slithered on Ricky’s boot and, sadly enough, forced him to drop his knife and fall off the cliff which was easily 30 yards away. Now the Reyes will never have to feel guilty about beating up an old man who might not have killed their parents. Yay for moral justice!

Doña Bárbara - Mon. & Tues., Feb. 2&3 - Marisela gets her first kiss; Antonio gets to see his baby
I'm going to try and do the last two days from memory.
Santos sees Marisela at the prison goes chasing after her with Maria Nieves in tow. Santos figures out (with María Nieves' help) that Marisela must be staying with Maurice. He realizes that Maurice´s address must be on the documents evidencing the sale of his family´s house to Maurice. In the process, we learn that Luisana and her father who were close to the former president, have fled the country after the regime change. Santos finds the address and talks to Maurice while MN gets drunk on champagne.
Maurice tells Santos that Marisela doesn´t want to see him and won´t tell him where she is. Maurice tells Santos that since Marisela came to the Capital, finished her secondary studies and is in the university. She is learning English and French, is a wonderful teacher and has lots of friends. Santos guesses that Marisela is probably teaching at the school Maurice founded in his family´s old house. He and MN go there. Marisela won´t see them and they end up sleeping on the steps of the building all night. The next morning Santos goads Marisela into talking to him by saying that she is a coward. They have their usual conversation - Marisela doesn't want to get between Santos and DB while Santos wants to be friends with Marisela.
Finally Santos kisses Marisela - her first real kiss. She obviously enjoys it a lot but when it's over, she hits Santos and accuses him of leading her on. Marisela retreats inside the school. Santos kicks open the door and follows. In a cute scene, Marisela´s students reveal to Santos that she is behind a door.
Meanwhile Antonio misses MN's release from prison. He is angry with Lucía and tells her that he isn´t interesed in seeing her anymore. He just wants to go back to the Arauca and see Cecilia and his son.
It turns out that DB´s plan to get Santos back is to give a big welcome home party for Antonio. This plan crashes and burns when Cecilia sees right through it and refuses to cooperate and Melesio says that he is too old to drink and dance and would rather spend a quiet evening with his son.
Antonio has an ecstatic reunion with Melesio and the terneras. He goes to see Cecilia and after a sweet scene where he meets his son, he and Cecilia have a fight about her not coming to visit him. She tells him that she did come but found him kissing Lucía. He accuses her of having sexual relations with Lorenzo. It degenerates after that and Cecilia tells him that he can see his son whenever he wants but that they are finished.
Lucía tells her father how upset she is that Antonio isn´t interested in her. When Don Encarnación asks why she is so fixated on Antonio, she says that although she feels fine, she doesn´t think she has that long to live and wants to enjoy it with the man she loves. (Could it be that both Antonio and Cecilia will have tragic romances before they end up with each other?)
Antonio comes to see Lucía and tells her that he and Cecilia are finished and he wants her.
When DB finds out that Antonio has come back without Santos, she is consumed with rage and jealousy. Then she opens an anonymous letter addressed to Santos that says she is a murderer. She accuses Cecilia and Mujiquita of writing it but they deny it. She is sure that Santos is with Marisela. When Santos does come back, she lays into him, asking why he went to the Capital without telling her, accusing him of being with Marisela. She is outraged when he goes to sleep in another room. Santos finally admits that he did see Marisela. Santos goes to sleep in Marisela´s room and it suddenly comes to him that he is in love with Marisela (duh). Then DB slinks in to try and seduce him.
MN has a joyous reunion with Pajarote and Carmelito. He tells them that he has learned to read. They tell him about his rival for Altagracia´s affections.
Sapo meets with BP and tells him that he knows about the oil at La Chusmita. (It is obvious that he is the source of the anonymous letter.) Sapo also meets Mujiquita and pretends that he is interested in investing in some business interests in Progresso.

who saw Ceci pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it’s pretty serious.
At the jail visiting room, Blanca swears to Juan Miguel that she had nothing to do with her sister’s death. Apropos of nothing, JM responds to that by mentioning that he has a friend staying with him, a guy who’s had some bad luck. He wants Blanca to meet him. Blanca looks baffled by the non sequitur. However, she’s used to being baffled.
Patricio and Estefanía sit in the garden. Pat tells Stefi that he doesn’t want her to leave because of Marichuy. If Ceci brings Marichuy back, he’ll pretend to be all nice to her for Ceci’s sake even though he thinks she’s a nasty brat. Martirio brings the phone out; the Red Cross is calling to say Ceci’s been in a serious accident. They all run off.
Marichuy tells Cande how she drove Ceci away. Cande thinks she did the right thing, but notes that it must have really hurt Ceci.
Pat and Stefi arrive at the hospital and ask about Ceci. Thus commences an overly long chat with the medical staff about whether they want her moved to a fancier hospital since she’s got medical insurance and why they aren’t allowed to go into the treatment area to see her, which seems like a waste of time when people need urgent medical attention. Pat surprises me by saying the Red Cross hospital is fine; he doesn’t want her moved.
Maite Perroni was totally sick when this episode was filmed. Her voice sounds painfully scratchy. She and Cande chat in Marichuy’s bedroom, which Amador has decorated rather like I imagine a bordello looks. Cande’s heading out to visit Olga. Mari mentions that she wants to talk to Olga also about helping her with her wardrobe and such at the theater. Amador told her she could hire an assistant, and who better than Olga? Cande looks offended by that, but Marichuy laughs and says Cande can’t do it because she takes care of the baby. Someday maybe they’ll be able to afford a nanny, though. Cande is skeptical about the quality of care a nanny would provide. She’s happy to be with the baby. All is well.
Pat continues to argue with the nurse about wanting to see Ceci rather than letting her care for patients. Finally the nurse escapes, and Stef points out that Ceci could die and not even have Patricio by her side in her last moments. Thanks, Stef, so helpful. Pat’s look of horror/disgust/pain doesn’t stop her, so she continues along this pessimistic line with comments about how it’s a shame Ceci will probably die just because she wanted to go find that worthless Marichuy. Try to use the words “die” and “death” a little more, Stefi, I’m sure it will really endear you to Patricio.
Marichuy talks to BabyJM, worrying that she may have been too harsh with Ceci.
The nurse finally says that Ceci can have a visitor, but only one. She asks Stefi if she is Ceci’s daughter, because the whole time Ceci has been asking for her daughter. Pat goes to see his wife, and Stef gets the grim details of the accident—Ceci hit a concrete barrier near the theater.
Ceci lies in a hospital bed, all scraped up. The doctor tells Pat that her condition is very delicate. Pat hovers over her and pleads with her not to die.
Meanwhile, in the waiting room, Stef hopes that Ceci dies, because then she won’t have to worry about that guacha claiming her rightful place in the Velarde family.
Cande and Olga sit in the courtyard at the old building. Some neighbor lady comes by and gives Olga a big slice of cake. I want to live in a neighborhood with cake service like that. None fer Cande, though, which displeases her. She tries to continue the conversation, but is distracted by the cake and insists on trying it, to make sure it is okay. Olga lets her eat cake. Cande mentions the job helping Marichuy, and Olga says she’s happy to do it, even for free. That settled, Cande starts squealing about the baby, when suddenly Juan Miguel appears. He tells Cande he wants to see Marichuy. They have a staring contest. Is it just me, or does JM look especially like a funeral director today?
Ceci mumbles for Marichuy through her oxygen mask. She mumbles a bunch more stuff, and tells Pat she’s atolondrada (confused). Regarding her condition, Pat tells her, “te sacaron unas placas” and I’m not exactly sure what that means, put together in this context. They extracted something? Had to pull pieces of metal out of her, maybe? Ceci tells Pat that she went to the theater to see Marichuy. He’s all mad.
JM wants Cande to tell him where to find Marichuy, and she refuses. He goes up the stairs to knock on the door of the old apartment. Cande tries to sneak away while he’s up there, but he sees her. She screams and tries to run away from him, which was the best tiny moment of comedy I have ever seen on this show.
Meanwhile, Marichuy is walking toward the building with the baby.
Juan Miguel catches up with Cande, obvio, and Cande begs him to let her go, because if she brings him to Marichuy, Mari will “me pone como lazo de cochino” (literally, she’ll make me like a pig’s rope. She’ll yell at me; she’ll tear me apart). Juan Miguel doesn’t believe that Mari doesn’t love him anymore, so he wants to talk to her. Marichuy walks up right behind him, and nearly flips her lid when she sees him. Cande, who fortunately is not a poker player, makes the most comically exaggerated astonished expression when she sees Mari, then badly tries to turn it into a forced grin at JM. JM doesn’t react to the hammy gasp, but even he isn’t dumb enough to buy that Cande is really smiling at him, so he turns around. Mari must have run off. He looks at Cande, puzzled (as usual).
Mayita visits Abuela Mariana and tells her about Beatriz’s baby’s upcoming baptism. She mentions again how much she wants a little brother like Marichuy promised her, so granny brings her a flying cartoon baby with wings, which is actually much less weird than that dancing baby on that one show with Calista Flockhart. Mayita tries to catch the baby like it’s a butterfly. Which also, I guess, is not any weirder than having kids believe that storks bring babies. I’m getting to sort of enjoy these odd little forays into Mayita’s mind.
Ceci tells Pat that Marichuy rejected her, so she left the theater feeling destroyed, then had the run-in with Amadork. As she was driving she decided to go back and tell Marichuy everything, no matter what, but she was too nervous to drive and thus crashed.
“What’s up with you?,” JM asks Cande. “Me? Huh? What’s up with you?,” Cande waffles. Cande tells him Marichuy never wants to see him and she’s going to marry someone else soon. He says he’s also going to marry soon, to a good woman who needs him and will be a good mother. “Yeah, a good woman who’s in jail because she goes around killing people!,” says Cande. JM has no clever comeback for that. Marichuy has ducked into a store and wonders aloud why JM is following her everywhere when he’s already replaced her. BabyJM looks indignant.
JM walks right past Marichuy in slo-mo, and even turns back, but of course doesn’t see her. Sigh.
Pat returns to the waiting room and Stef hopefully asks whether Ceci died. Nice, Stefi.
Cande, Olga, and Marichuy have a boring rehash conversation while Cande munches on a loaf of bread bigger than her head. Possibly even bigger than a breadbox. Why does Cande have to be constantly eating so much? It seems kind of rude on the part of the writers or directors to me, like they’re just trying to draw attention to the excess weight of a great actress. Cande assures Mari that JM won’t look for her anymore, and Marichuy looks sad and says she’ll never be able to forget about him.
It’s now Thursday, which we know because Rocio talks to Balbina about getting Mayita ready for the baptism.
Pat tells Stef he has decided to move Ceci to a different hospital, but he’s going to give a big donation to the Red Cross because if not for them his wife would have died. Stef looks disgusted with the Red Cross and their blasted lifesaving ways.
In the loft, Vicente is standing (!) and getting ready for the baptism. He seems to have no trouble using his legs, but apparently needs the physical therapist to do his tie for him. He quickly sits back in the wheelchair when Mercedes appears at the door. She’s delighted to see her son looking so happy, but he won’t let her come closer to give him a hug. Instead, he stands up and walks to her, and there is much rejoicing.
Rocio and Mayita are ready to go to the baptism, and they’re all happy, which means it’s time for our least favorite ogre to make an appearance. Ornerylia says that Mayita can’t go to a party and have fun after what happened to her mother. “Screw you, witch!,” says Rocio, although out loud she only says, “Let’s go, Mayita.” Ornerylia gnashes her fangs and spits poison.
Vicente tells his mom that he didn’t tell her he was learning to walk again because…the PT who really missed his calling as a jolly ice cream man chimes in that it was a surprise. For mother’s day, just a little late. She says it’s the best surprise ever, and they hug some more and cry and grin and Vicente pinches her cheeks, which oddly does not seem to annoy her. She’s just THAT happy.
Elsa’s parents’ backyard is all done up for a party, and Beatriz is greeting the guests and hoping Amador doesn’t make an appearance. Padre Anselmo tries to be comforting and priestly to Nelson, who is lounging under a blanket and stewing pessimistically about his chances in the hereafter. Eduardo arrives and looks way hot. Rocio and Mayita arrive with slimy Dr. Humberto and steal the baby. Ed asks Beatriz why she seems scared, just as Amador walks in. How hard would it have been to spend a little money on security, Party Planner Elsa? Eduardo tells Amador to leave. Amador just stands there, and they grin at each other and have the following silent conversation:
E: You look like a dork. I shall burn you to a crisp using only the fact that I am hot as hell.
A: I am evil; hell is my home base. Fire does not hurt me.
E: Loser!
A: If I just keep grinning maybe he’ll think I won the fight.
Martirio calls Castle San Roman and leaves a message with Balbina about Ceci’s accident.
Ed and Amador turn verbal and Ed tells Amador to leave because he has no reason to be there. The baby’s father is Eduardo.
Olga goes to the convent to visit Purita, who is wearing nun clothing and has angel music following her wherever she goes. She gives Olga some kind of tchochke as a gift.
Ed and Amador’s argument devolves into fisticuffs when Ed says he’s going to marry Beatriz and adopt the baby, but Elsa’s dad breaks it up right away and throws Amador out. On the one hand, I’m glad mi querido Eduardo is too much a gentleman to stoop to Amador’s level, but on the other, I really wish someone would give the jerk a good pounding.
Olga tells Purita that things are much better for her around the neighborhood, and asks if Purita if she’ll come back, but Purita says she’s happy where she is and is going to stay forever.
Balbina tells JM and Leo about Ceci, and JM leaves to see her. Leo asks Balbina who Ceci is, and Balbina tries to fill him in, although she lies outright when she calls Stefi “a friend of the family.” Leo rolls his eyes at JM’s complicated life.
Ed apologizes for the scene, but Elsa’s parents are like, “Whatever! Let’s party!” Elsa remarks that Ed was quick, making up that story about marrying Beatriz to get rid of Amador. OMG, is she really that thick? Beatriz named her baby after Ed, they went to Acapulco together, and they are pretty much attached at the hip. Ed and Beatriz exchange sly looks but don’t bother to tell Elsa it’s true.
Amador rants to Marichuy about having been thrown out of the baptism party, but he came to the wrong lady for sympathy. Marichuy reams him out and says he never wanted the baby and is only trying to claim him now because of ego, not love, so he should stay away and let Beatriz marry Eduardo.
The baby is baptized; everyone claps. Humberto is sticking to Rocio like a leech (sanguijuela, FYI), which means it’s time for Vicente to turn up. Sure enough, there he is standing (!) in the doorway looking hurt.
Mari tells Amador he should stay away from the baby; he just needs a mother and a father for a happy home and he’ll have that, so naturally Amador says that Mari’s baby doesn’t know his father. Juan Miguel catches up with Cande, obvio, and Cande begs him to let her go, because if she brings him to Marichuy, Mari will “me pone como lazo de cochino” (literally, she’ll make me like a pig’s rope. She’ll yell at me; she’ll tear me apart). Juan Miguel doesn’t believe that Mari doesn’t love him anymore, so he wants to talk to her. Marichuy walks up right behind him, and nearly flips her lid when she sees him. Cande, who fortunately is not a poker player, makes the most comically exaggerated astonished expression when she sees Mari, then badly tries to turn it into a forced grin at JM. JM doesn’t react to the hammy gasp, but even he isn’t dumb enough to buy that Cande is really smiling at him, so he turns around. Mari must have run off. He looks at Cande, puzzled (as usual).
Mayita visits Abuela Mariana and tells her about Beatriz’s baby’s upcoming baptism. She mentions again how much she wants a little brother like Marichuy promised her, so granny brings her a flying cartoon baby with wings, which is actually much less weird than that dancing baby on that one show with Calista Flockhart. Mayita tries to catch the baby like it’s a butterfly. Which also, I guess, is not any weirder than having kids believe that storks bring babies. I’m getting to sort of enjoy these odd little forays into Mayita’s mind.
Ceci tells Pat that Marichuy rejected her, so she left the theater feeling destroyed, then had the run-in with Amadork. As she was driving she decided to go back and tell Marichuy everything, no matter what, but she was too nervous to drive and thus crashed.
“What’s up with you?,” JM asks Cande. “Me? Huh? What’s up with you?,” Cande waffles. Cande tells him Marichuy never wants to see him and she’s going to marry someone else soon. He says he’s also going to marry soon, to a good woman who needs him and will be a good mother. “Yeah, a good woman who’s in jail because she goes around killing people!,” says Cande. JM has no clever comeback for that. Marichuy has ducked into a store and wonders aloud why JM is following her everywhere when he’s already replaced her. BabyJM looks indignant.
JM walks right past Marichuy in slo-mo, and even turns back, but of course doesn’t see her. Sigh.
Pat returns to the waiting room and Stef hopefully asks whether Ceci died. Nice, Stefi.
Cande, Olga, and Marichuy have a boring rehash conversation while Cande munches on a loaf of bread bigger than her head. Possibly even bigger than a breadbox. Why does Cande have to be constantly eating so much? It seems kind of rude on the part of the writers or directors to me, like they’re just trying to draw attention to the excess weight of a great actress. Cande assures Mari that JM won’t look for her anymore, and Marichuy looks sad and says she’ll never be able to forget about him.
It’s now Thursday, which we know because Rocio talks to Balbina about getting Mayita ready for the baptism.
Pat tells Stef he has decided to move Ceci to a different hospital, but he’s going to give a big donation to the Red Cross because if not for them his wife would have died. Stef looks disgusted with the Red Cross and their blasted lifesaving ways.
In the loft, Vicente is standing (!) and getting ready for the baptism. He seems to have no trouble using his legs, but apparently needs the physical therapist to do his tie for him. He quickly sits back in the wheelchair when Mercedes appears at the door. She’s delighted to see her son looking so happy, but he won’t let her come closer to give him a hug. Instead, he stands up and walks to her, and there is much rejoicing.
Rocio and Mayita are ready to go to the baptism, and they’re all happy, which means it’s time for our least favorite ogre to make an appearance. Ornerylia says that Mayita can’t go to a party and have fun after what happened to her mother. “Screw you, witch!,” says Rocio, although out loud she only says, “Let’s go, Mayita.” Ornerylia gnashes her fangs and spits poison.
Vicente tells his mom that he didn’t tell her he was learning to walk again because…the PT who really missed his calling as a jolly ice cream man chimes in that it was a surprise. For mother’s day, just a little late. She says it’s the best surprise ever, and they hug some more and cry and grin and Vicente pinches her cheeks, which oddly does not seem to annoy her. She’s just THAT happy.
Elsa’s parents’ backyard is all done up for a party, and Beatriz is greeting the guests and hoping Amador doesn’t make an appearance. Padre Anselmo tries to be comforting and priestly to Nelson, who is lounging under a blanket and stewing pessimistically about his chances in the hereafter. Eduardo arrives and looks way hot. Rocio and Mayita arrive with slimy Dr. Humberto and steal the baby. Ed asks Beatriz why she seems scared, just as Amador walks in. How hard would it have been to spend a little money on security, Party Planner Elsa? Eduardo tells Amador to leave. Amador just stands there, and they grin at each other and have the following silent conversation:
E: You look like a dork. I shall burn you to a crisp using only the fact that I am hot as hell.
A: I am evil; hell is my home base. Fire does not hurt me.
E: Loser!
A: If I just keep grinning maybe he’ll think I won the fight.
Martirio calls Castle San Roman and leaves a message with Balbina about Ceci’s accident.
Ed and Amador turn verbal and Ed tells Amador to leave because he has no reason to be there. The baby’s father is Eduardo.
Olga goes to the convent to visit Purita, who is wearing nun clothing and has angel music following her wherever she goes. She gives Olga some kind of tchochke as a gift.
Ed and Amador’s argument devolves into fisticuffs when Ed says he’s going to marry Beatriz and adopt the baby, but Elsa’s dad breaks it up right away and throws Amador out. On the one hand, I’m glad mi querido Eduardo is too much a gentleman to stoop to Amador’s level, but on the other, I really wish someone would give the jerk a good pounding.
Olga tells Purita that things are much better for her around the neighborhood, and asks if Purita if she’ll come back, but Purita says she’s happy where she is and is going to stay forever.
Balbina tells JM and Leo about Ceci, and JM leaves to see her. Leo asks Balbina who Ceci is, and Balbina tries to fill him in, although she lies outright when she calls Stefi “a friend of the family.” Leo rolls his eyes at JM’s complicated life.
Ed apologizes for the scene, but Elsa’s parents are like, “Whatever! Let’s party!” Elsa remarks that Ed was quick, making up that story about marrying Beatriz to get rid of Amador. OMG, is she really that thick? Beatriz named her baby after Ed, they went to Acapulco together, and they are pretty much attached at the hip. Ed and Beatriz exchange sly looks but don’t bother to tell Elsa it’s true.
Amador rants to Marichuy about having been thrown out of the baptism party, but he came to the wrong lady for sympathy. Marichuy reams him out and says he never wanted the baby and is only trying to claim him now because of ego, not love, so he should stay away and let Beatriz marry Eduardo.
The baby is baptized; everyone claps. Humberto is sticking to Rocio like a leech (sanguijuela, FYI), which means it’s time for Vicente to turn up. Sure enough, there he is standing (!) in the doorway looking hurt.
Mari tells Amador he should stay away from the baby; he just needs a mother and a father for a happy home and he’ll have that, so naturally Amador says that Mari’s baby doesn’t know his father. What if Amador told JM about his son? “It wouldn’t matter,” says Marichuy. Amador says JM would take the baby away from her.
Avances: Pat tells JM that Ceci went to visit Marichuy at the theater. Hmmm…will JM try to find her there also (preferably without the follow-up medical trauma)?
