Cuando Me Enamoro #107 Monday 9/19/11 Kiss of the Spider Woman; Fina and Pepa Melt Into One Monster

This picture has absolutely nothing to do with Cuando Me Enamoro, I just wanted to show you what I have been working on this week, besides it's a cute bird, no?

The games are afoot:
Fina calls Regina to begin the tormenting announcement that she is Pepa. Who is this , the woman who stole your daughter 25 years ago . Have the rats eaten your tongue and I am the one who sent you her baby clothes and the author of all those anonymous notes. When Regina starts to scream, Fina assures her, I am the running the show here. I am going to answer just a couple of your questions. Is she okay? Is she hurt? Where is she? And you have waited all these years, a few days isn’t going to matter. You have something I want and I have something you want . It’s easy. What is it that you want, money? Oh money, at last we speak the same language gurgles Fina,

Jeronimo meets with Constanza in a restaurant, he thinks Fina is capable of almost anything maybe even murder, does she agree? Consta says, it terrifies me that my brother has been at the side of this woman all these years, but, yes indeed I think she is capable of murder. He brings her up to date on all that Fina and Roberta have done and they talk about whom could have killed Rafael. Jero puts forth his idea that Fina is the only one with motive. She was against the relationship between Roberta and Rafa. Jero disgorges all the perfidy of Fina, she lied so many times, she told him that Rafa’s lover was Renata. Consta seems disturbed but not surprised. Could she have gone to the finca to kill Rafa? Consta will help Jero do anything to help him get to the truth. They review facts he doesn’t think Roberta was ever at the hacienda but Fina might have been. He has to prove what he thinks with real facts. He admits that his suspicions about Rafa’s death led him to be suspicious of Renata and ruin their relationship, but Fina told him she was the lover so he believed her. If she is the killer, he will not spare her, she will pay. Consta asks, do you know how much this is going to hurt Renata? Yes but I am determined to prove who is Rafa’s murderer. He needs to compare the letter found with Rafa to see if it is the same handwriting as Fina’s. Consta says she can get him a handwriting sample for proof. He bemoans that Fina’s actions have resulted in Renata and him not being able to put their relationship back together.

Fina tells Regina that she want her ransom money before her daughter receives her inheritance. She isn’t going to wait for the 25th birthday. And you can’t tell anyone and no one means no one. And if you don’t do what I want, who knows, maybe I’ll have to repent and KILL HER. Fina is pleased she has Regina in her hands. Regina still thinks Regina junior is a little girl and begs to know that she hasn’t been hurt, she is suddenly back to 25 years ago. Fina threatens that she will run into bad luck if she tells anyone and don’t call the police and maybe I will decide to let you meet your daughter. Afterwards, you will have to promise to forget who I am and never look for me. After you get the money there will be more instructions. Fina smirks once too often and hangs up on a sobbing Regina, who begs don’t hang up on me, she sobs and talks to dios a lot for guidance.
Renata explains the Roberta debacle to Augie who acts like cool as an iced drink. You must feel pain? Yes. But you seem like a strong person and he then tells her that she can reconstruct her life and build a family circle with patience and without lies and trick he and she can build their future life together. He wants to go straight to her father to begin the process. She tells him with all the other problems her family is facing this is not the day. So he gives her until the weekend (You know what I think about this).

Gonzo looks at a family picture and says he can’t believe she betrayed all of the family. Inspite of his love, affection and protection. All that time she cared only for the money. For the first time in my life I am learning what you are really capable of sand I nave never felt such contempt (desprecio).

Fina explains more facts of her plan to Roberta back at the empty house. The maid announces Renata is here to see Fina but Fina says doesn’t have any reason to see her. Renata bursts into the counseling session. She doesn’t want her but Renata says deal with it, I’m here and you will talk to me one last time.

Regina explains to Inez and Isidro that she needs to be careful. Isidro says that she could loose everything and still not get her daughter back. She doesn’ t care what she loses if she gets her daughter and wants to play by Pepa’s rules. Isidro points out that she may have to mortgage her house, sell the practice center, convert all of her investments and assets into cash just to try to meet Pepa’s demands. They want her to be sensible but she tells them they must help her on her plans or not and no one can tell Gonzo. She gets up as though to leave, she is so unwilling to entertain their offers of advice.

Fina stomps out of Roberta’s room followed by an irate but resolute Renata, while Roberta says aloud so her sister can hear, ah Renata you are so detestable. Just then Roberta gets a call from (must be) Augie given her slinky sexy look and tone. Ah yes she wants to meet him and likes his plans to meet now. She is so glad of another chance to trick her sister, rather her half sister. If only you knew, she giggles. (Remember this moment, you woogie ones that get all sniffly, soft about rehabilitating this little viper, including yours truly!)

Renata and Fina go down the staurs yelling. Renata demands, why did she mistreat her all these years and always prefer the precious Roberta. Because she is named for her father who adored her, his name was Roberto. Fina tells her that Roberto was her father too but she and Roberta have separate destinies. Why have you betrayed me. You mean nothing to me from now on. Fina is having fun now, my love for you is that of a true mother. No it isn’t true, love is deeds not just words. You need psychiatric help. Fina insists she is not crazy. When Roberta comes down to enjoy the fight, Renata says, Roberta, she needs help but I am out of here. Fina assures her that she will never be able to say goodbye to her mother. Renata defies this threat saying yes I can and this is goodbye forever. Goodbye Roberta, She goes out muttering to her self that she misses Jeronimo so much.

Roberta doesn’t get it, as usual. Notice she doesn’t get much that isn’t spelled out for her. but Fina knows she has to make the case that Renata is her only daughter and Roberta is Regina’s. The dollar signs dance in their heads. Let the games begin.

Call me, call me, Jeronimo, I’m waiting. Marina de las Tatas is waiting and missing Jeronlmo too. But he enters his DF apartment. This whole lie cost me Renata but I am going to get to the bottom of everything.

Honorio comes home with more flowers (someone has gotten smarter) and Consta and he talk of love and kiss. (oh thanks for two seconds of relief from the evil, hateful ones). Her eyes are beautiful and she is just glad they are able to see him here with her. They pledge to stay in love and clear with each other for all time. No one will come between them ever. Right on! We can only hope.

Back at the Bonita they wedding list is coming together with Manuela’s help. Carlos says they are deciding on some of his cousins who will surely love Mati and not be like his parents and of course Sabina must be invited. A big pitcher of orchata arrives for the jolly table. A giggly couple comes in on a cloud, oh it’s Lazaro and Keri to announce they are going to get married too. Carlos says they are thinking who will be the witnesses (testigos) and best man and woman (padrinos). Are they going to make a joint wedding? They all laugh and Manuela observes of Laz and Kari, that thank god they are not going to wait any longer. Mati obvserves that her Momma in heaven must very, very happy at this scene. She congratulates her brother and then kisses Keri whom she declares will be the best sister-in-law in the world.

The grey sole , aka Dr. Nesme, is still beeping and pulsating, just enough that the nurse observes that he doesn’t wake up, he only repeats the names Jeronimo and Kari. The doctor says , I think Kari is his wife’s name . And when will Jeronimo come to the prison? Only when he gets back from Enseñada. (Hmmm, they’ve been keeping things from us, just like some of you predicted.)

Adriana hugs the big bear (remember that was Matias gift to her and we’ve wondered where it went) and oh that’s where it is . Renata comes in and hugs the Chema lion and says she broke off with her mama says all is a mess but she has to close circles. She feels like an orphan.

And as if this wasn’t already becoming the night of the living dead and now especially for those of you who missed BSC heeerrrre’s Blanca!! She is making a breathy phone call to Honorio, making her straight jacket look like an evening gown somehow, or is it just her sultry voice, saying surely he hasn’t forgotten her and their love?? How does she have a phone. He answers, you are completely loca. (I’ll second that motion) That ‘s a pretty good guess, Hon, better handle this a bit smarter this time. He does the best thing, he hangs up quickly while she smirks as only she can on the other end.

Fina replays the scene with the R necklace with the diamonds. on baby Regina and says ah, Regina, you don’t know that both girls have the exact same R now. Now I have you totally in my hands. She will use it to further convince Regina that she is the real deal. She mutters, she has many surprises for Regina.

Jero swirls fine wine in a big red wine glass and says Fina will pay for all she has done. He swears to get even with Fina who ruined his life. A hot and eager Marina de las Tatas calls to press him, How did it go, are you finished yet? He tells her, Roberta denied everything at first, but we had her. Hesitating, she says, and Renata? He says a bit mumbly but clearly, it’s all over with her at least for now, there are just too many obstacles in our way. She only hears the first part apparently, and are you sure you are free to go on with your life? She presses like Augie does this mean that lo nuestro Our thingy can go on at top speed, as though that thing. our relationship, continues a foot and Jero is struck dumb for an answer. MariTata is filling in the blanks in quite the same way that Augie takes silence for consent. Ohohohoh.

Do we have a future together, she asks again, Well yes he says but hesitates that he has to finish this business with his brother’s murder before he can begin. She is so glad to be a part of this part of his life and he says you have no idea how important you have been in the end of the last chapter in solving this problem. He will always be grateful. But she gushes, she doesn’t want his thanks, she wants his love. Perhaps Jero has really learned to listen as he seems to hear her hotness and he says to be really honest I am not over Renata and I am still completely in love with her. Marina chirps that she would think it exceptional if you weren’t feeling some little bit for her. She gets off the phone and rocks rhythmically back and forth in her chair only hearing what she wants. Your voice paints a world of color, she sighs. (and your voice and starry eyed look paint a world of illusion, I sigh.)

The table is set at HonCon’s house, Honorio tells her that no one was calling. (let’s hope that isn’t a dumb decision) and Adriana and a sad looking Renata come in from their bedroom, while Gonzo and Matias come in the front door. Matias reminds them of the apartment he has which now is all redecorated and ready for him to move in. The girls announce that they too will move to Adri’s apartment. Consta is sorry but Adriana points out that they can all meet often like this but the couple will have a more romantic time alone together. Gonzo says we are all taking new pathways to make a new life. How happy these meals seem without Roberta and Fina to dampen spirits.

Renata tells her Papa that she is sad because she said goodbye forever to Fina and Roberta. Mat agrees that this was a good move for her to make.

Regina checks with her financial consultant to see how much money she can get her hands on immediately. The consultant shows her how much she thinks they can get for the house, the consulting business and other assets. The consultant says it will take some time to liquidate all these things since the market is not very active (actually it is night and closed) and a bit slow right now. Regina asks God to help her get all the money that Pepa wants. She looks at photo of the adorable baby Regina, Jr. noting that almost 25 years have gone by without you How much I have missed you.

Inez and Isidro decide they have to respect Regina’s wishes for secrecy but Inez is worried about the danger and they discuss that Fina is dangerous and a woman without scruples. Isidro says, she is not a child, so we must respect her decisions and just support her. Inez says but if we are not here how can we do that, Isidro gets edgy, we can support her from here or there, this is just a pretext to argue about the move. Stupidly, (my opinion) he decides they cannot tell Gonzo against her withes they must just help her be more stupid. He gets up and takes his stupidity and anger into the other room. Inez admits to herself, she just doesn’t know how to explain to him that she doesn’t want to leave here.

The dinner table discussion centers on how could Fina commit such barbaric acts all this time. Fina needs a psychiatrist. Matias reveals that he saw her do mean things so many times. Gonzo says, why didn’t you ever tell me? How could I, Papa, you were always so in love with her.

Renata says her father’s name was Roberto and Consta gets that tingling sensation again saying to herself, I am pretty sure Regina said her husband’s name was Roberto. Gonzo says to Renata, Fina was so cruel and hard on you. I have made a decision to break with her and with Roberta forever and you and Matias are my true children. They kiss and all hold hands, the three smiling at each other. Matias is almost as glad.

Augie and Roberta drink fine wine. Roberta thinks she is the one who suffered from tis outing by Marina, probably the whole village knows the story. She taunts him that he is only worried that Renata will find out that Roberta is sleeping with him and will go back to Jeronimo. Augie decides she should shut her pie hole and Roberta agrees that talk isn’t what is called for they decide to boink more and worry less, at least right now. As the village talks (if they even care) they kiss and undress.

Still at dinner, Matias thinks Roberta will complain but mostly wants money. Matias can change his prenuptial by the revelation of the lie in the agreement now revealed to be Soto’s doing. Gonzo thinks they will resolve it soon (it only takes money with these two harpies) . Honorio changes the subject wanting to know how it went when Renata made sure that Jero was to be thanked for the loan and the changed relationship with the bank. Renata says she didn’t have time because Augie came when she was on her way to the bank. Gonzo waxes all grateful. Lets thank Augie for all he did to protect you. Renata almost chokes but Adriana springs a nice diversion of attention demanding more salad. She gets them to pass the salad, discomfort avoided. Matias‘ phone rings, it’s a call from boring sister of hit-and-run who is just thinking about him and so available and does he want her to come pick him up. Sweetly, he says he’d love to talk to her but he changes the plans to a coffee date for tomorrow. Adriana looks on with a knowing look.

Carlos calls Jero and tells him that the wine carrying Rafa’s label is ready to be produced. and by the way, the jail in Ensenada called wanting him about something pressing. Jero, says no problem but looks like it’s a problem.

Tata gushes to Tio the Padre that Jero tells her that he is through with Renata. Padre doesn‘t want to rain on her parade (aguafiestas) but some love is forever and he believes that the love of Jero and Renata is just this kind. However, she is so gushy now that she can openly fight for his love. She argues that they’ve said they can’t live with each other so the field is open. It make me feel so happy, can’t you be happy with me? He says at least take it calmly and she just wants him to be happy for her, he looks anything but. (And I used to think he was so dense.)

Manuela walks under a tree. She sees the kissing Carlos and Mati who are so happy Hugging by the fountain so we can’t hear what they say well, are Lazaro and Kari. He says that god has been witness to his love for her. She confesses that she often woke in the night to wish his hands and his kisses were hers. He will love her forever and she says promise me he swears to her. Going forward, we will be together forever. (doomsday phrase) Kari is finding out what real attractlon is all about. From today, I will dedicate the rest of my life to make you happy.

Matilde still talks about her thought she would never marry because of the curse on her. Carlos cheerfully tells her, but our love is a benediction not a curse. The kitchen helper comes up and asks Manuela what is she doing. She is just watching the lovers, and she only wishes that the Jero’s and Renata’s love would have arrived in time to work out for them like this.

Adriana playfully taunts Renata to bring Augie in front of everyone so she can decide what she feels and how sure she is. Renata makes quick excuses that she has to go do so many things, They two plan to come back to get their things and go to the apartment after work. Matias comes out offering to Renata that they could car pool together but Renata has to go to the bank to see about the Jero loan before going to the office. They tease each other with affection, she calls Matias a busybody (metiche). After Renata leaves, Adri says and I guess you and I are going in two cars so you can go out with Julietta. He says are you listening in to my conversations? She says no, it was obvious that she called you during dinner last night. He says, but we are just friends just like you and Chema are friends. Like Chema? mocks, Adriana. He wants to know, are you jealous? I am waiting until you make your mind, Adriana doesn’t really act like she needs to make up her mind but he goes on, Julietta is who I can talk with. He thinks they are in a competition. Adriana says what competition. I think there is a competition, don’t you think there is a competition here?

Fina and Regina each dress in front of mirrors. Fina swears, Regina, you will never be happy. Meanwhile in the split screen, Regina says Roberto you have no idea how much damage you have done to me and your daughter getting involved with that woman.

Tomorrow you lucky ducks: Fina Pepa and Regina all meet in the park with sudden recognition all around. Just after Jero tells Consta that he guesses Renata and he aren’t meant to be together. And best of all, we get a redux of the airport terminal crash, Renata runs into Jero at the bank and they end up on the floor again and laughing again. Ahhhhh….throw us a bone, why don’t ya, writers! We’ve been so good and waited so very long.

La Fuerza del Destino #32 Mon 09/19/11 JJ Makes a Plan, Antolin Gains a Fan, and Camilo Gets Some Land

The guy at the Ministry of Agriculture, whom JJ thought he had in his pocket, has just informed him, Ivan and Camilo that they have found NO reason to sanction the McGuires. JJ can’t believe it! Isn’t it the obligation of the ministry to protect the interests of the ranchers? He can’t believe they’re taking the side of these abusive gringos! The ministry guy tells JJ not to get his panties in a bunch. The Director made his decision based on the facts and evidence. The McGuires look well intentioned to them. They all have to work together for the good of the state. Ivan suppresses a sh!t eating grin while JJ sputters and stutters about his friendship with the director. They all get up and JJ says he’ll speak to the rest of the ranchers and we’ll see how this all turns out. The ministry guy says they’re here to serve him. “Sí, como no!” (Yeah, right!) JJ walks out. The ministry guy knows JJ wasn’t happy because he’s a proud (orgulloso) man, but he’s also a man of business, so he’s pretty sure he’ll come around. Once they leave the office, Camilo tells Ivan that he’s sure JJ will do something against them to hurt them (perjudicar), so they better stay alert.

At home, JJ bitches to the family. What’s new? Esther tries to tell him what’s done is done and to accept it. He tells her to shut up. How pleasant, no? He sends the women off so that he can speak to Saul. Once Pinky and The Brain are alone, they start chatting over a bottle and shot glass of tequila. JJ says they need to do something that will have the suspicion fall on the McGuires and not on him. They have to burn the harvests (cosecha) of the ranchers that are supporting JJ. Saul’s little mind is blown by the deviousness of his father’s brain. He takes a swig of tequila. JJ says he’s actually going to put his trust in Saul, but he doesn’t want any screw-ups. “Show me that you’re worthy (digno) of being my son.” Saul takes another swig of tequila in response.

At the pool hall later, Saul enlists Antolin’s help in the plan.

Ivan calls Carlota from the inheritance lawyer/notary’s office to ask after Lucia’s health and if he can visit her later. He gets a positive response to both questions. The lawyer comes in and tells him they want to take care of this business as soon as possible. Ivan wonders what would happen if he renounced the inheritance. If Ivan doesn’t take possession of his inherited portion of the hacienda, then it could be seized (incautar). Ivan then supposes that he could GIVE the lands away to someone. Of course! (Claro!) That’s exactly what Ivan wants to do then.

In the hospital, Carly tells Lucrezia that she thinks Maripaz is actually telling the truth about the blackmail. If it’s true, then Lucrezia’s even more sure that Ivan should take responsibility. Carly thinks it would be pretty easy for Ivan to deny it all. Well then, so can they! Carly doesn’t think it’s the same. She knows how people are with their malicious gossip and how they would treat Lucrezia and the girls. And Lucia has her career! Lucrezia refuses to use part of the loan money. Carly again suggest selling the house and moving to the ranch. Lucrezia refuses since this would be a big old red flag to everyone that they have gone bankrupt (bancarota). Carly wants Lucrezia to choose. Either accept that everyone will soon know MP had a baby at 19, or sell the house to pay off the blackmailer. Lucrezia is sure sooner or later Ivan will pay. And what about Anthony? Has Carly told him about it yet? Carly’s hissing no at Lucrezia when in walks Mark #1, Ivan. Lucrezia plasters a fake smile on her face as Carly takes Ivan off to see Lucia in her room.

The nurse is reporting a drop in Lucia’s temperature to her. She’s feeling better. Carly comes in and announces Ivan who comes in a second later. He’s all smiles, quite different than the last time they spoke. He asks how she is, and she tells him she’s better but still has a bit of fever. She’s more worried about how much work she’s missing and how Gossipy School Head Olga is taking it. They give us some PSAs about standing water that could have attracted the Dengue carrying mosquito that bit her. He tells her that they’ve finally moved (mudar) into their new house. She’s genuinely happy for them. She’s even happier to hear about the new dog and they start chatting about Bruno the Golden Retriever.

In the reception area, Lucrezia’s actually hoping the two squabbling love birds have reconciled. If Ivan is dating either one of her daughters, surely he’ll step up and take care of the blackmail problem. Carly thinks it best to just wait for things to take their own course (tomar curso). Camilo comes into the hospital waiting room eager to see Lucia, but is visibly disappointed to learn Ivan is with her. He decides to leave. Lucrezia’s none too pleased that her youngest daughter is attracting all these low class bums (pelados). Carly tells her Camilo’s a good kid and he and Lucia are friends. Lucrezia scoffs.

Ivan asks Lucia to forgive him for how jerky he acted the other day. She doesn’t want to talk about it. Ivan thinks they eventually have to talk about it, even if it’s not right at this moment, but when she feels better. Even if she doesn’t believe it, he considers her a friend- his only (girl) friend. He wants to say something else to her and is taking advantage of the fact that right now she’s too weak to hit him and chase him off. It doesn’t matter to him what has happened in the past, or what might happen in the future. He’ll NEVER stop loving/caring about her. They both get a little teary and he kisses her on the forehead before leaving.

He says farewell to Carly and Lucrezia and asks to be informed when Lucia is taken back home the next day. Lucrezia convinces Carly to go home to rest, and Ivan to take her. When Ivan excuses himself to take a call, Lucrezia pressures Carly to put the squeeze on Ivan about the blackmail money. Ivan comes back before Carly can argue. Lucrezia then gets a call from JJ who invites her out to eat. She actually refuses so that she can stay at the hospital with Lucia. JJ decides to come by the hospital to have coffee with her instead.

At the new McGuire house, Carmen is being a pain in Camilo’s butt and needling him about being Ivan’s slave and loyal dog, there to wait around until Ivan shows up or wants something. He tells her to show more respect since he’s her big brother and to stay out of his business. Carmen thinks it’s shameful that instead of being the big boss and out giving orders, Camilo is just sitting around waiting for orders like a mere employee! Camilo points out, that is exactly what he is, and there’s nothing dishonorable about that. And she’s an employee too! But she didn’t study YEARS (like he did) just to be this. This ticks Camilo off and Benito has to jump in to prevent the siblings from getting into a full on fight. He takes Camilo’s side and tells Carmen there’s nothing wrong with the work Camilo has. She tells him to shut the hell up. If she keeps acting this way, Camilo threatens to have Ivan fire her. Well, she’s friends with Ivan too! If Ivan was such a good friend to him, why he would have him as a servant? Camilo actually grabs her this time, but Benito once again breaks it up and separates them. “I only say what I see!”, she says. Camilo can’t take anymore. He leaves, saying they’ll talk at home that night. Carmen then starts yelling at Benito and one of the maids. Benito’s not having it. “I am NOT your employee! I work for Mr. Anthony!” He explains how he met and helped Ivan when he first went to the States. He leaves the kitchen too and points out that her brother has more manners than she does. Carmen calls him uppity (igualado), then turns her ire on the cook/maid. She tastes the food and calls it gross (guacala), despite the cook explaining it’s Toni’s special no salt diet. After Carmen storms out, the cook doubts the chances of her lasting in this job long.

Ivan’s dropping Carly off at her front gate and telling her abut Toni’s new dog, his love for dogs, and how they met when Toni was walking his dog and was assaulted. She invites him in for a talk.

At the hospital, Lucrezia wants all the deets on Lucia’s conversation with Ivan. She doesn’t understand what all they have to clarify and why they haven’t reconciled. After all, the whole MP apartment matter is clarified. She explains that they are now convinced that MP is being blackmailed for real, and they have no money to pay. She wants Lucia to convince Ivan to pay up. “Please daughter, help us.” Lucia claims exhaustion and looks it. But it’s her family, not the Dengue, that’s weighing on her. Lucrezia leaves her to rest.

At Casa Curiel, Carly tells Ivan she knows she’s not his favorite person in the world (santo de tu devoción). She’s done terrible things against his mother and then against him. It wasn’t just her, but also her daughter, Ivan points out. As well as her son-in-law, who knocked up his mother and is responsible for her death. He starts to get worked up into one of his angry rants. Carly says she understands his pain, but Gerry has always been a good man. Ivan has convinced himself that Gerry didn’t want to divorce his wife and marry his mother because she was a servant. Carly tells him he’s mistaken (equivocado). Gerry and Lucrezia hadn’t gotten along for a long time and he had asked her for a divorce many times. And now she knows why—because he was in love with Ivan’s mother. Ivan has set his mouth into an angry little scowl and refuses to accept this. Men of that class only take up with a servant to amuse/entertain themselves (entretenerse), not to make those women their wives. If Teodoro could marry Carly knowing she was carrying another man’s child, why couldn’t Gerry marry a woman like his mother? “You weren’t a servant. You were a young woman of society.” “But I was dishonored/not pure (deshonrada).” Ivan’s not buying it. Carly points out that social classes never mattered to Gerry, unlike Lucrezia. He only stuck it out (aguantar) with Lucrezia, who was always berating him, all those years because of his daughters. And then one day, all of a sudden, another love came into his life- the love of Ivan’s mother. Ivan wonders then why didn’t he say anything at the time? If he had, then they would have avoided the tragedy of his mother’s death. Carly urges him to speak to Gerry to find out why. Man to man. Face to face. (Hombre a hombre. Frente a frente.)

Carly asks Ivan if he loves Lucia. Ivan says yes, and Carly says she knows Lucia loves him too. They’re young and have every right to enjoy their love. Don’t let their (the older folks’) errors ruin their (Lucia and Ivans’) lives. “Marry Lucia; take her to the States; forget about us!” If he had found out his son had died, then he would have been able to be at peace. But then Lucia told him about the disappearance and he began to feel this anguish (angustia) about all the horrible things that could have happened to his child. Carly tells him she’s had all these fear too, but she’s also prayed to God that whoever took him did so to give him a good home and love, so that he wouldn’t end up in a foundling home where perhaps he would have never been adopted. “Then whoever did it knew of the baby and knew what you all intended to do!”

At the hospital, JJ’s giving Lucrezia his version of what happened at the ministry. Lucrezia wonders if he’s doing all of this just because the McGuires wouldn’t give him enough money for the hydroponics. JJ tries to act like he’s just protecting the interests of all the ranchers. He thinks Ivan hates him and is trying to destroy him. (BINGO JJ!) Lucrezia’s not interested in all this drama. She’s only interested in her ranch and she’s NOT going to give the money back. JJ’s fine with that. (We know he now has other plans for getting back at the McGuires.) But he sticks to the theory that Ivan hates him and will do anything to do him harm. He wants Lucrezia by his side. Lucrezia wants to know if he has some proof that Ivan wants to harm him. JJ wants to know if Lucia’s still dating Ivan. Lucrezia says she doesn’t know whether or not they’ll reconcile, so JJ says he won’t share his info, in case the rumors get back to her future son-in-law (yerno). Lucrezia gets worried about the rumors and wonders if JJ knows (about the baby blackmail). He obviously does not know, but claims he will be hurt if she knows something against the McGuires that she’s not sharing with him. She makes like Lady Gaga, and puts on her poker face.

Ivan returns home to his waiting, annoyed wife, uh, BFF, Camilo. Well, look who’s finally arrived! Ivan apologizes but claims his day got really complicated. Camilo wonders if the Curiels mentioned that he stopped by the hospital. Nope. (You’re not that important Camilo.) Ivan goes to see Toni, who’s having some quality time on the couch with Bruno. They discuss the inheritance.

Ivan returns to the living room, where Camilo is pouring himself a drink. Ivan thinks they should celebrate because Camilo has just come into some land! He’s the owner of a part of Ranch Socorro. Camilo thinks it’s a joke. Ivan explains how he first thought to reject the inheritance, but then he decided to give it to Camilo. Camilo tries to refuse, but Ivan insists. Camilo is like his brother. He thanks Ivan and gives him a huge hug.

Later that evening, Ivan and Toni chat. Toni wants to know why he chose Camilo. Ivan’s thinks that land was meant to bring a woman out of poverty- his mom. Since it can’t be her, it should be another poor woman- his madrina Celia. But then he thought it might end up becoming a source of discord amongst her kids, especially Antolin and Carmen, who he’s realizing is quite ambitious (in the greedy, negative context). So he decided it was best to give it to Camilo. Toni asks about Lucia, so Ivan updates him. He wants to know if Ivan made amends and made up with with her. He got the ball rolling and he’s going to continue to insist.

At the hospital, Lucrezia is continuing the nice, caring mother act, and pushing Lucia on Ivan. Lucia wants to talk about it tomorrow, when she returns home.

Ivan tells Toni Carly’s theory about why someone would take the baby, and his thoughts that it had to be someone who knew them and their plans- specifically Gerry. Ivan’s major proof- if Gerry was so in love with his mom and such a decent guy, how is it that he supposedly fell in love with, impregnated, and then married another woman all around the time before and after his mom’s death? Gerry has told him that he married a woman who already had a child but then they registered Alex as Gerry’s child, but Ivan thinks this is a lie. Toni thinks the only way to get rid of his doubts is to do a DNA test. Ivan knows. But how? Ask permission? Take Alex secretly to a lab? Toni doesn’t know. Ivan doesn’t understand why Lucia wouldn’t just tell him the truth about Alex. He would have been grateful (agradecido) to Gerry to learn that he had taken care of his son. Alex is a happy, healthy kid. Toni gives the same advice as Carly. “Talk to her. But don’t get abusive.”

Lucia’s getting a (nearly) clean bill of health from the doctor. She can go home tomorrow, but will have to rest and take her medication to get back to 100%. The doc tells Lucrezia to go home and get rest. She then starts getting lovey dovey with Lucia and kisses her. I am starting to have a different opinion of this affectionate, motherly Lucrezia, until she tells Lucia one more time to think about getting back with Ivan. Lucia looks like she’s ready to physically throw Lucrezia out of her room. “Ya mama!”

Camilo returns home with a celebratory pizza, as Carmen complains to Celia about him. Celia takes his side and doesn’t think Carmen should be so bossy (mandona). Carmen points out the HOURS Ivan had Camilo waiting for him. Just then, happy Camilo breezes in with pizza, wine and a huge smile on his face. Lechita is happy about the pizza. Carmen starts bitching at him, but before they can start fighting again, Celia tells them to cool it. Camilo tells them all about the inheritance Ivan has transferred to him. Celia and Carmen are open mouthed impactadas, and Celia rushes to hug him. Lechita doesn’t understand why all the excitement.

At her apartment, MP is confiding in Antolin (why?) and telling him the blackmailer called again. This is news to Antolin, who tells her he’ll find out who it is with his connections to the underworld (bajo mundo). He’ll put a stop to it. MP thanks him. He’s the only friend she has in this world!

At Casa Galvan, Carmen is green with envy. Camilo is sure Ivan did it for Celia. Carmen thinks that now Camilo won’t have to work and can live like the rich folks. (She really hasn’t been paying attention, has she?) Camilo’s not going to stop working. Mainly because the lands is in bad shape (fregada) and he’ll need money from working to invest in it. Celia says that Ivan is heaven sent (bendito), and now Camilo looks green with envy. (I’m starting to think that Antolin is the best of the lot with these Galvan kids. At least he admits he’s an amoral sleaze.) Carmen is not pleased that now that THEY are land owners, they still have to live the same peon life. Camilo wants them to go on working hard like before, wants no laziness out of Carmen, and does NOT want them to tell Antolin about the land/ranch. Naïve Celia thinks this could be an opportunity for Antolin to do some honest work and turn his life around. Camilo says he’ll think about it. They toast with the wine, and Lechita asks for some soda (refresco) so that she can toast too.

Antolin and MP continue their chat. She admits that neither her family nor Ivan will help her. Antolin wonders about the apartment—isn’t it from Ivan? MP spills the beans that it was Tony who got her the apartment because she was blackmailing her grandmother (she has no shame in saying this) over a family secret. She thinks Toni did it because he’s in love with Carly. Antolin chuckles over the AARP romance. Then he asks MP about the family secret. She’s not telling, but I’m pretty sure he knows he can get it out of her easily enough with a few mojitos. He takes his leave for now without the info though. She thanks him with a long kiss. He looks uncomfortable at the kiss, and wipes his mouth once on the other side of the door. “Viejas!” (Women!) MP thinks out loud. “Antolin isn’t bad. Too bad he’s a pelado (low class bum).”

At the pool hall, Antolin is pissed and demands to talk to Tubby Thug. Didn’t he tell him to leave MP alone? Gordo can’t stop thinking about those easy 4 Million Pesos. Antolin has something in mind that would have a bigger pay off. But he’s not telling Gordo until he sees he’s dropped this MP baby blackmail scheme. But if he persists, then he’ll be sleeping with the fishes before he sees one peso from his scheme. He knows Antolin doesn’t make empty threats. After Antolin leaves, Gordo mutters under his breath that Antolin needs to be careful of him too!

The next morning, Ivan is jogging with Bruno as Camilo arrives at the house. Ivan thought he would be late since he was surely celebrating the news of the ranch until late last night. Bruno starts barking and snipping at Camilo. Both he and Ivan thinks it’s strange, but Ivan chalks it up to the dog not being used to Camilo yet. Camilo retreats into the house.

Lucia returns home. Cleto tells her of a gift that came for her.

At Empresesas McGuire, the employees are buzzing and the phones are ringing. Ivan tells Camilo that he wants to personally deliver the check for the construction work to Gerry, since they still have some things to talk about. The new secretary tells Ivan that Mr. Mondragon is on the phone for him. JJ says he wants to make peace and they make plans to meet for lunch.

At Casa Curiel, Lucia finds the HUGE and HEAVY basket of fruit Ivan has sent her. In Lucia’s bedroom, Lucrezia presses Lucia once again to make up with Ivan. Lucia doesn’t want to make up with him just for gain/ulterior motives (interes). Lucrezia thinks she’s being selfish (egoista). She loves him, doesn’t she? It’s precisely because she loves him that she won’t do it.

The Curiel front gate bell rings. It’s Ivan! Lucrezia wants Lucia to freshen up (pasar patita de gato/use the little cat paw) and put on some makeup to look presentable. Lucia refuses and Lucrezia stomps out in a huff. Lucia IS concerned enough about appearances to flit around the room trying to find the perfect spot and position to receive Ivan’s visit. She decides on the chair closest to the door. When the door opens, it’s not Ivan who appears first, but Bruno, holding a single red rose in his mouth, which he delivers to Lucia. She is enchanted and smiling from ear to ear when Ivan comes in.

Dicho: “Quieres el oro y el moro.” (You want to have your cake and eat it too./You want it all.) What Carly thinks Lucrezia wants by not paying the blackmail money, keeping the house AND the ranch, and having Ivan pay the blackmailer.

Avances: Lunch between JJ and Ivan doesn’t go well. JJ shatters his precious mirror and reveals to Saul that Ivan is his bastard son. Ivan and Lucia make out.

La Fuerza del Destino #31 Fri 09/16/11 It's Countdown to Calamity for Merry Piece and Judgment Day for Ivan

There’s a dust storm kicking up in Alamos as Ivan gets angry at Gerardo for shtupping his mama, Alicia, back in the day and not having had respect enough to divorce Lurecia and marry her instead!  Why?  Cuz she was just a lowly servant to the spineless and class-conscious Gerry.   So now Van’s on the warpath uhhh-gain and he’s waiting around to accost Lucia to see if she knew her daddy and his mama had a thing for each other and that that’s how she got knocked up and ended up dying from that abortion.  As Viewerville tunes in, it seems that Lucia doesn’t respond well to being man-handled.

Gerry, meanwhile, pays an unexpected visit to El Socorro, aka, Suckers’ Ranch, to see if Lucrazia might have told somebody about Maripaz having a baby years ago.  Also Ivan’s been asking him questions, he says, like he suspects somebody of having his son.  No way, says Lucrazia.  Only the immediate family knows.  Why would anybody subject her and MariPaz to blackmail?  Gerry is WTF impactado to find out they’re being blackmailed, cuz like, now there’s another wrench in the works.  Lucrazia says she thinks it’s just a ruse by MP to swindle easy money out of them (er…since they got that check from the McGuires).  Gerry thinks back to Carolina’s mentioning Antolin saying he heard his mama, Arcelia, mentioning something about Merry Piece having a baby years ago.  Lulu tells him that yeah, Ivan knows about the blackmail and is supposedly going to take care of it.  He even accused her of giving the boy to somebody who’s now extorting them for money!  She, though, doesn’t think that since the baby was taken in Guymas that they tracked them back to Alamos and would be blackmailing them over it now.

Back in the school parking lot, Lucia admits that she knew her daddy’s secret and Ivan starts shaking her, asking her why she didn’t bother to tell him?  She tries to explain that she only found out herself the day before yesterday [anteayer] while at lunch with her dad.  Ivan calls her a liar.  Lucia spits out the facts.  Her dad wanted her opinion, but she left it up to him to decide what to do.  Ivan’s hopping mad.  She tells him she can’t help him, but he says of course she could!  She accuses him of being obsessed and he spits back that she’d be obsessed too if it were her child that was missing!  Van accuses her and her family of having known the whole time and covering for Gerry, but she denies it.

The school staff and principal witness the fracas and Lucia notices them watching the two of them fight.  Ivan says he could care about those old biddies.  Lucia says right!  He just jumps on a plan and heads back to the U.S., but she lives here!  She tells Ivan to cool his jets and to give her back the keys.  He refuses and says they haven’t finished their conversation yet, so she’s coming with him whether she wants to or not!  Lucia is fighting him off when La Directora intervenes.  Lucia says it’s only a misunderstanding.  Ivan excuses himself and hands her back the keys before slinking away.

The principal and the staff immediately start to wonder what’s really up.  The principal tells them about how he bought an apartment for Maripaz, and that MP divorced her friend, Sra. Mondragon’s, son to go off with Ivan but that he suddenly left her for her sister, Lucia.  Tsk!  Tsk!  Both of Lucrecia’s girls are so rash [alocada]!

Gerry confronts Carolina and tells her he thinks Antolin is the blackmailier.  Why else would he be asking so many questions about Alex?  He probably suspects, he says, that Alex is really Ivan’s also!  Carolina has a hard time believing Anto would be so devious.

Lucia is lost in thought and crying.  Camilo sees her and calls over to her.  She comes running and he lends his muy masculine shoulder to cry on.  They end up at Lookout Point where she explains why she and Van argued. He thought after all these years that Ivan would have let sleeping dogs lie, but no!  He’s become obsessed with it and that’s why he really returned to Mexico.  They agree that they both care about Ivan.  She feels guilty for protecting her father.  Cam says it’s only natural.  Anyway, she was only thirteen at the time and really had nothing to do with any of it.  Cam’s grateful for all that Ivan’s done for him recently, but they both have to realize that the tragedies Van’s lived through early in life have unfortunately marked him forever.  Bottom line, if Ivan continues to jerk her around there are plenty of other self-respecting men around who’d give their right arm to be with Lucia and claim her as their own. (We note that he counts himself as the first in line.)

At the hospital, Ivan gives Anthony a rundown of the morning’s nasty run-in with Lucia.  Tony tells Van he blew a decent chance at reconciling with his girlfriend.  Ivan admits losing his temper was not conducive to making up after breaking up, but the rage he felt at not being told was bigger than the both of them.  (Yep, Ivan has definite trust and anger management issues, to say the least!)  For all of Tony’s trying to reason and defend Lucia, Van still thinks all she was trying to do was to cover for Daddy.  Tony insists Carlota says different and that’s good enough for him!  If Van doesn’t want to believe it then that’s his problem.  Don’t bother asking him for advice any more cuz he doesn’t listen anyway!

Cam goes home and gripes to Celia about the brutish way Ivan treated Lucia and made her cry when he found out she knew about his mother and Alicia.  He stops to scold Carmen for putting on airs at Ivan’s casota and then starts in again about Ivan.  Celia wants to know why all of a sudden it matters to him what happens between Ivan and Lucia?  Cam gets flustered and races out of the room.  “—It doesn’t matter at all!  Not at all!”  Celia can’t believe her son’s actually crying.

That night at supper, Lucrazia tells Carlota and Lucia about Gerry’s visit and that he said Ivan’s been going around asking questions about his son.  Lucia’s worried about MP because she’s terrified of the extortion demand.  Lulu would rather hide her head in the sand and think that if she refuses to accept it as the truth it will just go away.  Carlota says as much.  “—And if what you suspect isn’t correct?”  “—Well, what?  You don’t want to pay all that money, do you?”  Carlota reminds her that if the threat isn’t just a ploy by Merry Piece then not only is MP’s reputation gone to Hell in a handbasket, but Lucia’s is also!  Does she really want that for Lucia?  Lucia tells them not to worry about her, but Carly says of course she will!  Lucia’s got her whole life ahead of her and she was Ivan’s girlfriend.  She can only imagine the kind of scandal all of this is going to blow up into! She suggests they don’t touch Tony’s cash, but sell their town house and pay the blackmail.  Lucre-cia jumps up from the table and says Hell No!  Let Maripaz figure it out on her own.  She can beg Ivan on her knees for all she cares!

Lucia’s had enough and heads off to bed.  Carly gives Tony a call.  He tells her that Ivan and Lucia had a fight earlier in the day over her knowing that Gerry was the man who Alicia was having an affair with and who got her pregnant, and then not telling him she knew.  Carly is OMG! Impactada.  She says that Lucia never mentioned seeing Van, much less told her about their fight!  He says well, don’t bother bringing it up to her then, either.

Lucia is on the treadmill when Cam calls to check on her.  He is obviously gaga over her.  She is happy just to have a friend to check on her.

The next morning Ivan and Cam are on their way to their appointment with the head accountant of the local agricultural association.  They’re discussing some plan to offer money to someone and trick him (I think it’s to the accountant himself).  At the meeting they ask him to handle the accounts for McGuire and Co. and learn that he considers himself Juan Jaime’s personal friend.

Later that afternoon, Lucia returns home and is running a high fever.  Carly rushes her into bed and says if she’s not feeling better in a few hours after some medicinal tea, then they’re going to call a doctor over to check on her.

Later in the afternoon, the doctor tells Carly and Lulu that he suspects Lucia has Dengue fever since there’s been an outbreak [brote] in the city recently and any mosquito bite could have done her in.  Lucre-zia is more worried that the treatment for it will be expensive.

Van and Cam leave the accountant’s office and decide not to make their move till they find out what Lic. Torres has decided to do about the Meandragons’ complaint.  Cam asks if Van’s spoken to Lucia since.   He says he’d rather not talk about it and takes off.

At Gerry’s place, Anto is fixing Carolina tea.  He mentions she seems distracted.  Carolina says well, if he really wants to know what’s on her mind, she thinks he’s the one blackmailing Merry Piece.  Anto  is all who, me?   Caro says yeah, well a couple of days ago he was asking all sorts of questions about MP’s baby and then suddenly she gets a blackmail call.  “--Sorry, Anto, but knowing you the way I do, I don’t doubt for a minute that you’re the one blackmailing her.”  Again Anto acts pure as the wind driven snow.  How could she think that he’d do something as wicked as to harm somebody close to her like that?  Caro says she certainly hopes that’s true, because otherwise forget their friendship.  (Big whoop.)  Oh, perish the thought!  She should know that her friendship is worth more to him than anything in this world!  She has to believe him when he says he’s got nothing to do with that!!

Anto heads straight from Carolina’s to the pool hall to confab with El Gordo.  The blackmail deal dies here tonight, says Anto.  Gordy ain’t having any of it though.  Anto explains that he just found out he’s suspect numero uno and so he’s got to back off, and if Gordy is smart (and Viewerville is safe in assuming he’s not up for any I.Q. awards) that he’ll take his advice and leave it alone too, cuz everyone knows Gordy is as close to him as fleas are on a hound dog.  He’d be suspect numero dos.  Gordy tries talking him out of throwing the towel [aventar la toalla] in so soon.  Anto warns him off.  “—It’s history and that’s an order!”

Later that afternoon, everyone welcomes Tony to his new house.  Ivan surprises him with a beautiful new Golden Lab for a house pet named Bruno.  Bruno comes complete with his own personal trainer.

JJ drops by to see the head accountant himself and learns that McGuire and Co. have asked him to handle their accounts.  Surely they don’t understand that they have their own way of doing the books at The Association, says the accountant.  Right, says JJ.  A bit strange, and he doesn’t doubt for a minute that they were hoping to see if he’d jump at the bait and agree to something he shouldn’t.  JJ warns the accountant to be on the lookout for some kind of bribery attempt [suborno].  They’re too smart by half and probably think they’ll catch ol’ JJ and get him into some sort of legal jam.  The accountant better not let them twist his arm cuz he’s up to his neck in this accounting funny business, too.   C.P.A. Guy says not to worry.  He’s his man all they way.   Neither of those pig-headed fools will get even a peep [pío] out of him!  Just then he takes a call from his sexratary who tells him Lic. Torres and he have a meeting about his complaint with the McGuires.

Carmen hands Ivan a letter addressed to him from Lic. Castaña “regarding the matter of an inheritance.”  Ivan wonders what inheritance.

The principal from the school stops by to visit—and gossip—with Esther Meandragon.  The first thing out of her mouth is that she saw Lucia and the McGuire boy fighting.  Yes he was pulling and she was yelling!  What a scandal!!  It certainly was, she asserts, over the way he had set up her sister in an apartment!!  Ester clucks and tells Judith she’s not to associate with the two Lomeli girls any longer.  They’re nothing but trash and if Jud hangs around with them everyone will think she’s cut from the same cheap cloth. Nobody will have respect for her then!

Back at Ivan’s new digs, Cam gets on Carmen’s case for being too chummy with Ivan.  He has to agree and he gives her a couple of tips on being “discrete.”  She backs down and excuses herself—politely for once.  FF>>

Back at the Meandragon’s, Esther and La Directora continue to cluck.  FF>>

Ivan tells Tony about the letter from the attorney and the supposed inheritance.  Van calls the attorney who tells him that his mother, being the daughter of Teodoro Curiel, inherited part of the rancho and that both Carlota and Lucia arranged for him to receive it.  Van says he wants nothing to do with it, but the lawyer talks him into coming anyway.  After he hangs up, Tony asks what he found out.  Ivan explains.  Tony thinks it’s a decent thing to do, but Ivan says not at this point [estas alturas] considering she died in poverty and they never raised a hand to relieve her situation while she was alive!  Tony reminds him that it’s never too late to right a wrong.  Hah!  Ivan replies cynically that they are only doing it to stay on Tony’s good side so they can continue to receive his financial support.  Tony loses his patience and tells him he shouldn’t be so distrustful (I say paranoid) all the time!  He doesn’t care and is going to continue to help them, period!  Van screams back that he can think what he wants, but he doesn’t’ want any part of them and races off in a snit.

Ivan arrives at Carly’s ready to give her grief again, but he finds out from Cleto that everyone’s gone to the hospital because Lucia’s really sick.  Gloria tells him which hospital they’ve gone to and he races off again to be at her side.  Gloria mentions how he’s run off without even saying good-bye.  Cleto replies that Ive’s worried for Lucia.  Gloria says he really loves her, doesn’t he?  Clete answers that that’s the whole problem in a nutshell: Sra. Lucrazia can’t stand him and then Maripaz is hot on his heels to have him back.  That’s what the fight the other night was all about, he adds.

At the hospital, the doctor tells Carly and Lulu that Lucia’s got Dengue, but she’s also anemic and it’s complicated things.  She’s very weak and needs to stay for observation.  Just then Ivan races in and asks about her situation and the doctor explains it all again (yes, even though he’s not part of the immediate family).  Nobody can speak with her right now.  Lucre-zia complains to Carly about the expense of having Lucia stay in a hospital. Carly hisses back that she’d strangle her if they were in public right now! Ivan offers to pay all the expenses.  Lucre-zia throws a fit and says they don’t need his charity! [limosna]  Carly thanks him for coming, anyway.

On Ive’s way out Lucre-zia has a change of heart (no doubt after remembering he’s supposed to pay off the blackmailer) and grabs him to apologize.  She blames her outburst on nerves from the blackmail situation.  “—I suppose you are going to pay it like you promised, right?”  He gives her the stink-eye and walks off without a word.  Lulu isn’t used to someone pulling rank like that and hisses under her breath once he’s gone.  “—Pelado!!” [rude, impudent, course, working class, impoverished all rolled into one]  She tells Carly what she thinks of him after that and Carly says pretty much “like you should talk!”

Across town, Merry Piece gets another blackmail call from Gordy, despite the warning from Antolin.  “—You think this is a game we’re playing?  Where’s my money??”  She tells him that McGuire’s the one suppose to pay him.  Sorry sweet-cheeks, but he’s a skin flinty SOB who only wants to know where the brat is!  We have no idea so you either pay up the $4 milliones or your secret’s going to be broadcast all over town.  You’ve got two days!”  Click!!  MP panics and tries calling Ivan.  Van refuses to pick up.  She calls home for Grams then and learns everyone’s at the hospital.

Van calls Cam and tells him what’s up.  Cam says they’ve got an appointment with Torres and JJM later that morning.  FF>>

Merry Piece races over to the hospital to beg the money from Carly.  Sure, she knows she’s been a bad girl, she begs, but she’s ready to mend her ways. Just don’t abandon her!  Carly gives in—not for her, but for Lucia, she says.  It doesn’t matter why, says MP, just that she does it!

Outside Lic. Torres’ office, Juan Jeil-me shows up.  Cam and Ive are just about to go in themselves.  “—Glad to see you here, Ivan!  No doubt my buddy, the director, has listened to me and will be looking into the matter [tomar cartas en el asunto].”  We get another stink-eyed response from Ivan.

Cuando Me Enamoro #106 Friday 9/16/11 A Sad Goodbye and A Perilous Hello

Queridos, discuple por la tardañza! Life just gets in the way sometimes.

In the aftermath of Roberta's inquisition, Nata tracks Jero down in the parking garage. She thanks him for helping everyone realize that they were being victimized by Fina and Berta. They need to have a serious talk soon but Jero needs to get to the bottom of his brother's murder first. Nata worries it might be too late for them by the time that happens. Jero is touched by her words. Tears in her eyes, Nata holds Jero's hand and hopes he finds in Marina what he did not find in her. Jero wishes the same for Nata and Augie, despite Augie not being the man Nata thinks he is.

Chema sits down with Selene at the health club. He tells her that Connie and Honorio have gotten back together; the damage she caused is over. Selene thanks him for not holding it against her.

Gonzo is still in a CAPSLOCK RAGE over Soto's tampering with Matias and Berta's pre-nup agreement. He and Matias take turns yelling at him. Soto lied, he's sorry, but he couldn't help it because Fina seduced him. Now Gonzo really has something to shout about.

Nata tells Adriana about her sad goodbye with Jero. Adri is upset that Nata didn't tell Jero that she was sent to live with Augie to avoid jail during the Blanca debacle. Nata did not want to tell Jero that she got engaged to Augie out of anger. Adriana is sad that her amiga is in such a tough spot now that things have been squared away with Jero for good.

Not only did Soto try to sleep with Gonzo's ex-wife, he was also the guy who took the snapshots of Gonzo and Regina that ended up in Fina's hands. Gonzo fires Soto on the spot and scolds him for not knowing the difference between right and wrong. Gonzo's mind is reeling now that he has realized the woman he knew for 15 years is a perfect stranger.

Roberta paces in her room. She hates everyone, including Mami Dearest. Everyone knows that her baby was Rafael's because the gynecologist squealed and everyone knows that Fina was the mastermind of it all.

Gonzo vents to Regina about feeling betrayed and humiliated by Fina. He wants Fina to pay for what she has done to his family. He toys with the idea of getting revenge but rejects the thought. He just feels like a fool for falling for Fina's lies for so many years. And now his daughters are in jeopardy since everyone has caught on to Fina's treachery. Regina understands how Gonzo feels because of what Roberto did to her years ago. Gonzo appreciates having someone to talk to.

Fina sneers at Berta for thinking that Gonzo would ever take her side. Berta seethes that she shares the same blood as Nata; she's glad that Nata is not Fina's daughter. Fina says Berta should go along with her plan to trick Regina into thinking that Berta is her daughter. "Yes, it's true. Regina Soberón is Renata's rightful mother."

Adriana commiserates with Nata about her own love troubles. They both lament how difficult their love lives have been. Nata thinks that it's just life getting in their way. She starts getting teary when she mentions that friends and other loved ones can sometimes be more supportive and caring than blood family. Adriana agrees and considers Nata a sister to her. Of course Nata agrees and they hug.

Jero hangs out alone in his apartment and kicks himself for having to give Nata up forever. Dozens of clips from happier times play as Jero mourns their relationship: the Enrique concert, the wedding, their day at the beach, the grape harvest festival, etc. (I can't help but think of The Brady Bunch when a sobbing Jero is surrounded by eight pictures of Renata. He makes one sad Alice.)

Berta now understands why Fina hates Regina so much. Fina thinks it's the perfect time to take revenge for the past as well as for the present. They can get back at everyone! Berta agrees to do it and Fina grins with glee. She will work everything out so that a DNA test will prove that Roberta is Regina's daughter.

Matias admits to having despised Fina when he was a kid. Honorio says that he and Connie never liked her either. Now it makes sense to them why Fina and Berta always ganged up on Nata. Matias vows to buy his freedom from Berta. If all Berta cares about is money, he will give it to her just to get her out of his life.

Fina drills it into Berta's head that money is what makes the world go round. If Berta succeeds in passing off herself as Regina's daughter, she will end up with Roberto's inheritance plus the Monterrubio inheritance once Gonzo dies. He is almost surely going to marry Regina. Fina wants to make sure that Regina never gets to enjoy what should have been hers. "Your papá and your new mamá will not be happy for very long. I will do whatever is necessary to make sure they never live happily ever after."

Regina tells Gonzo that she does not care at all how much money she has to pay as long as it gets her one step closer to finding her daughter. She will take the risk in order to get her daughter back. Gonzo warns her that going broke will not help her but he admires Regi for how little money and position matter to her. Gonzo promises that he and Regi will be together with her daughter one day.

Nata tells Adriana that she wants to get an apartment and live a new life. Adri suggests they both move into Honorio's old apartment. He moved back in with Connie, so now the apartment is empty. They immediately start making plans.

Jero tells Carlos over the phone that he is finally done with the Monterrubios for good. He will return to the hacienda the following day to start a life without Nata...without the love of his life. D'aww.

Matilde visits Dr. Marina for a check up before the wedding. La Doctora asks Mati about Jero. She really does love Jero; she would give up everything for him.

Now for the best scene of the night: Karina sits down next to a drippy fountain with Lazaro. He admits that he has been waiting for her is whole life. They could have a wonderful life together. Karina thinks he's right. She wants to marry him and Lazaro's jaw drops. "What here? Now?!" Lazaro gets down on one knee and proposes properly. Karina would love to be his wife. He lets out an award-winning shout of joy. "Karina is going to marry me! FINALLY!" LOL. They kiss and viewerville cheers.

Oh, yuck. We cut away to a shot of Dr. WhyIsHeNotDeadYet in hospital bed. He mumbles that he needs to talk to Jero immediately.

Ezequiel has a chat with Alfonsina in the fields. She wonders why he is being so pleasant with her. He has not forgiven her but he wants to be on good terms.

Matias visits the Monterrubio Mansion of Misery to offer Berta whatever amount of money she wants for a divorce. She won't settle for less than 100 million dollars. Matias tried to be nice but now he's going to play dirty. He will drag Berta through the courts to get a divorce. She will be publicly humiliated, especially now that she has no one to protect her.

Gonzo, Nata, Hon, and Adri sit down for an informal business meeting. Honorio tells them that Jero is their bank advisor and it was because of him that the bank gave them a loan. Nata is shocked and remembers telling Jero about the Empresa falling on hard times. Jero did offer to help her then.

Augie unexpectedly shows up at the Empresa and gets a lukewarm greeting from Nata. He presses her on why she had paperwork that involved Jero.

Meanwhile, Jero has invited Constanza out for coffee. He needs her help getting the full story on Fina. Knowing Fina as she does, Connie tells Jero to expect the worst from her. Connie has no doubt that Fina would do anything out of self interest. "Even murder?" Jero asks. Connie has to think about that one.

Fina calls Regina at the Hope Center. She tells Regina that she is Pepa, the woman who kidnapped her daughter. (!!!) We're left to squirm until Monday over what happens next.

Avances: Jero tells Connie he is almost positive that Fina killed his brother, Regina screams at PepaFina to tell her where her daughter is, and Nata forces Fina to listen to something she has to say.

Vocab: (there was a wealth of dichos in this episode)

Estoy cavando mi tumba - I'm digging my grave (Soto to Gonzo).
El motor que mueve al mundo es el dinero - The motor that moves the world is money. (Fina to Berta)
Amigos son la familia que nosotros escogemos - Friends are the family we choose. (Adri to Nata)
arriesgarse - to take a chance (Regi to Gonzo)
scar provecho - to profit / to derive (Berta to Fina)

La Pola - September 16, 2011

Summary: Pola is dragged before Sámano who wants her to repent. He has been warned that executing her could cause trouble in the city. The executions of Torres, Caldo and Jorge Tadeo barely raised an eyebrow says he.

The execution stage is under construction in the square. María Ignacia is pleased with herself because she believes that it is Pola who will be executed - until she finds out that all of the prisoners, including Alejo are to be executed.

Meanwhile, Pedrito makes a valiant effort to reach the Almeida brothers' camp. He rides through heavily guarded roads and gives plausible explanation - that he is on General Sámano's mission and cannnot reveal the message.

Pola succeeds in getting Pérez López to allow her to wash. She gets the three guards to turn their backs so that she can have some privacy. She runs back into the jail, overpowers a guard and tries to shoot the lock off Alejo's cell. She is captured.

María Ignacia pleads with Sámano to spare Alejo. He sends her to the prison to try to convince Pola to recant.

El Mundo de Telemundo – Week of September 19, 2011: Discuss Amongst Yourselves

A note to new readers: Jean and I set out a page each week to talk about the primetime novelas on Telemundo. Right now we’re following: Mi Corazón Insiste, Flor Salvaje and La Casa de al Lado.

How our page differs from most on CarayCaray:

1. The recaps are, for the most part, in the comments and not in the text above.
(One exception: whoever starts the week’s page has the option of putting that first summary in the text box. Since it’s my week and I’m watching La Casa de al Lado, I get to put my two cents worth in the text box today.)

2. Jean and I may be doing the posting but right now the most important and prolific writers on the page are Hombre de Misterio and Novelera. If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you know these are two of the very best writers around here – both of them literate and funny and always listening for interesting Spanish phrases or vocabulary to share. (Hombre has also shown a surprising flair for fashion commentary – check out his description’s of Lola’s sexy outfits in Mi Corazón Insiste. We may need to start calling him Hombre de Modo.)

3. Because we follow more than one novela in a single space, we try to remember to label each comment. That way, people can find what interests them and not get bogged down in the process.

4. And because we post on the weekend, the discussion begins with the previous Friday’s episode; it continues through Thursday’s episode with comments added each day. So, for example, a typical comment might begin –

La Casa de al Lado -- jueves

5. In this space we have been refining the art of the mini-recap or ‘recapette’, a brief review of each episode that acts as a springboard for conversation. Typically, a recapette fits in a single comment space though occasionally it spills over into a second comment.

So if you are enjoying any of the Telemundo programs and want to check us out, take a peek at the comments that are added each day in the course of the week. And of course we’d love to hear what you all have to say!

La Casa de al Lado – viernes

Extreme birth control
Gonzalo slips into the cheap motel room, chloroforms Ignacia and does a horrifying Psycho number on studmuffin Pedro – no donation will be made tonight.

His knife is raised over Ignacia’s unconscious form but he’s distracted by a knock on the door. Ignacia is saved by the potatoes.

She wakes up hours later to find herself in bed with Pedro’s slashed and bloody corpse. She calls – who else? – Gonzalo. Gonzo races to her side, calls the police, plays attorney and supportive but disappointed spouse. Ig isn’t completely off the hook legally but she is finally free to go home.

Since Ignacia can’t remember anything, it’s easy for Gonzo to convince her that she may well be the murderer. Hey, she might have murdered Adolfo or Leonardo or whatever his name is. Ignacia is ... grateful.

Business as usual at la casa Ruiz
Javier is pretty cranky when he returns home from the fool’s errand Gonzalo sent him on. No one makes a fool of him. No one. He appears just after the still-traumatized Diego has asked his mother if she knows who abducted him. Diego is sent back to his lonely, scary room. Pilar is left to cower and simper.

The next morning Rebeca tries to resist Javier’s blandishments but it seems she’s just a girl who can’t say no.

Tres meses después
Hilda, still in Zacatecas, appears to be going into labor. (Why is she always alone in the Mexico scenes? Low budget or high art?)

Emilio shows signs of recovering his vision but without Hilda and his unborn child, he feels no joy.

Carola, despite Javier's braggadocio, is still smoldering and moldering in jail and still refuses to see her family. The good news: she should be nicely detoxed by now.

Opening Night
Ignacia has been fiendishly busy channelling all her angst into her art. Tonight she gets to show what she has accomplished. It is time for the opening celebration of her new exhibition. The usual suspects gather.

Despite Eva’s tart warning to stay away from Pilar, Gonzalo goes right up to his skittish neighbor and begs for a chance to talk. She refuses, saying she can’t trust herself with him.

Javier slimes over Rebeca. It’s clear that these two are back in their old groove. The new, improved Rebeca didn’t last very long.

Ignacia herself is like a quinceañera, basking in the attention and adulation of the crowd. But then Javier sidles up and reminds her that it was on precisely such an occasion that she first met Adolfo. She is suspicious – how could he know that? And now her bright night is clouded: her mind strays back to that earlier show when Adolfo introduced himself with a scribbled note on a cocktail napkin and asked a waiter to deliver it to her.

She is startled back to the present when a waiter hands her a note scribbled on a cocktail napkin: Estoy muy cerca.

She is instantly sure that Adolfo is back and runs out looking for him. But the only one she finds is Gonzalo. He pretends to be unconvinced – it can’t be Adolfo. But the truth is otherwise. He is also sure Ismael/Adolfo is back.

Las casualidades no existen
The camera shows a strange long-haired figure in a black shirt and green jacket sending an email from an internet café.

Rebeca gets a weird email message (ACh 611938 it says) and no one knows where it came from or what it means.

Karen hears a noise in the house and finds a chair overturned in the kitchen. A window upstairs is open.

Pilar finds a red rose under her pillow and no one in the house knows how it got there.

Javier denies sending Ignacia the note at the gallery opening.

He’s back.
The creepy email guy pulls off his wig and turns to face the camera: It’s Ismael.

Teresa Fri 9/16/11 #140 What did the shark say when she hit the wall?

Dam!

Leftovers: In the hospital chapel, Esperanza cries that she doesn’t think she can go on living without her son. Hernán el Galán tries to comfort her.
Meanwhile in the vecindad, Armando and Refugio offer support and ask their tiburoncita what she plans to do. For the first time in her life, Teresa says, she isn’t sure. Refugio urges her to listen to her heart. “But I don’t have a heart,” says Tere’s confused face.
Over at Casa Genovenom, Ruben blames Mariano for all his family’s troubles and swears to get even.
And finally back to where we left off last night: Arturo goes to Aurora’s house and hears from a still-sobbing Luisa that Good-Fer-Nada Fernando will not marry her because he’s fallen in love…with TERESA!!!
Fresh hot dish: Does. Not. Compute. No. Puede. Ser. Arturo is surprisingly calm. No way is his best friend in love with his wife. Luisa assures him that Puede Ser and, indeed, Está. Fernando most definitely made it quite clear that he’s ditching her for that traitor she thought was her best friend. “Do you think they...actually…have been seeing each other?” Art puzzles. Luisa thinks he wouldn’t have risked announcing his feelings if they hadn’t been reciprocated.
Hospital: Cutberto is on his best behavior and awkwardly polite to Héctor. He and Juana say they’re worried about Esperanza’s baby and Cutberto also pretends to care about Teresa’s divorce, but otherwise they’re on cloud nine. Cutberto says “voy a ver si ya puso la marrana” (I’ll just take a hike) so they can talk privately. Juana tells Hector she couldn’t have been so happy without his understanding and graciousness.
Aurora’s bedroom: End of the fuse, and we’re back to raging Arturo. He’s furious and realizes he was stupid to think Mariano was the problem. Luisa cries that Mariano actually tried to warn her; he didn’t want her to suffer like he did. Arturo thinks back and realizes that at Espe and Hernán’s house, Mariano was actually trying to get Teresa to quit cheating on Art with Fernando, not to leave him for Mariano. He’s irate, but when Luisa says she wants to die, Arturo hugs her and assures her they’ve suffered through worse, and they’ll get over this, too. He leaves to have words with Fernando.
Vecindad: InTeresa pre-emptively reinforces her tentacled grip on her father’s good graces (I’m such a cynic) by affectionately listening to him rhapsodize about how happy he is having been with Refugio so long, through good and bad and ups and downs. He tells Teresa he’s so proud of her, getting so far in life through nothing but her own hard work and now look at her, such a classy and upstanding young lady. Tere asks what they want for an anniversary gift. Armando says they have everything they need. Tere tells him one of these days she’ll make sure he has his very own auto shop, and he and Refugio will live like kings.
Hospital: Juana thanks Hector for being so nice to Cutberto. Hector says it isn’t Cutberto’s fault Juana is in love with him (that’s certainly true; one might almost say his behavior over the years was specifically designed to repel her. And yet…there’s no accounting for taste). Juana asks Hector if he minds if she continues to see Aurora as a daughter. He says not at all; she’ll surely need motherly advice and comfort to deal with the inevitable fallout from her relationship with that scumbag Teresa-seeking-missile Mariano. Juana says she really doesn’t think Mariano is interested in Teresa still, but Hector is not convinced.
Casa Genovenom: Geno tries to convince Rubigoat not to do anything stupid. Oh, the irony. Rube is all worked up and can’t do NOTHING. He wants to go give Mariano a paliza (beating). Well, you know, send some thug to do it. Geno convinces him he shouldn’t cause any trouble while the police are still investigation Rodriguito’s disappearance, and tells him absolutely under no circumstances to contact Fito.
Da hood: Fito el Maldito Bandito strolls amongst the graffiti, admiring the gold medallion and getting updates from the other members of the Thug Association via phone.
Chez Cheater: Arturo slams into Fernando’s saloon office, ready to rumble. He says they need to speak, but he lets his fists do the talking. The camera is so scared it has to hide behind walls and on the balcony. Art delivers a heck of a beatdown, and Good-Fer-Nada doesn’t fight back. His best defense is, “I didn’t mean to…it just happened!” POW!
Hospital: Juana and Cutberto greet Esperanza and Hernán and mention that they came back from their honeymoon in time to celebrate Armando and Refugio’s anniversary. Juana and Espe wander off and Cutberto offers Hernán any help possible to find Rodriguito. He doesn’t have much money, he says, but it’s all theirs if it can help. Hernán says they don’t need money, but he asks him to hang out with Espe and help distract her so she isn’t so hopelessly depressed.
Lucha Libre ring, aka Chez Cheater: Smackdown continues into the parlor. Various knicks and knacks are sacrificed. Fernando limply makes like a punching bag and Arturo doesn’t let up, while growling that he WARNED (BAM!) Fernando not to play around (WHAM!) with his SISTER (ZOWIE!). Fern swears that when they got engaged, he really intended to marry Luisa. Wrong answer.
Juana’s house: Teresa tells Armando she knows there won’t be an anniversary party because of the missing baby, but she wants to take her parents to dinner, at least. Hugs and kisses. Armando leaves, and seconds later there’s a knock at the door. Oriana! SMACK! to Teresa, right across the face. She calls Teresa a slut and says she’s back where she belongs, in the sewer she crawled out of. Tere tells her to keep her hands off. Oriana says it’s her duty to put inTeresa in her place. Tere says she has no right to do any such thing. “I warned you fair and square not to mess with me!” “So you did all this just for revenge against ME?!” Tere just raises her sharky marker eyebrows.
Back to the brawl: Fernando is a bloody pulp, but Arturo isn’t quite done. He’s got him pinned to the floor with his hands around his throat.
Fernando chokes out that this is kinda Arturo’s fault. He was totally a meanie to precious Teresa, after all. Arturo admits he made mistakes but insists Teresa would never have left him if Fernando hadn’t come between them. And all the while he was THANKING Fern for taking care of her! “You are worth NOTHING, Fernando! Not as a friend, and not as a man!” Arturo finally walks away from the chum.
Juana’s: Tere says if she’s with Fernando, it’s for love. Annoying Oriana is just a bonus. “You don’t know anything about love!” Oriana shouts. After all Arturo has done for Teresa, putting her through school, giving her a respected name, this is how she repays him?! And Luisa! She’s been so sweet and loyal to her sharky friend! Teresa tells her she has no right to judge; after all, she’s had an easy life with a rich husband and knows nothing about carencia (needs, poverty). Oriana says maybe not, but she knows plenty about decencia (decency), which is something Teresa will NEVER understand. And, BTW, if she thinks she’s getting her greedy fins on Fernando’s dinero, NOT HAPPENING.
Hospital: Cutberto’s trying out the litanies on his knees, in case that might help get the baby back. Espe tells Juana she must be very happy with Cutberto; he’s very caring. She doesn’t even remember the last time she laughed herself. Juana says she’s going to be happy again, most definitely. After all, even Juana is happy now although her baby died, and they’re going to get Espe’s baby back safe and sound.
Aurora’s bedroom: Lucía tells Luisa she deserves better than that rat Fernando, and if he’s the type to mess around with another woman, it’s best they didn’t get married. “Not just another woman! My best friend!” Luisa wails. Lucía says she’s got another friend right here, and she’ll never betray her. They sympathize with poor Arturo. Lucía says he must be suffering so much. Luisa says he left in a rage to find Fernando, and she’s worried about both of them. In spite of everything, she still loves Fernando.
Penthouse: Arturo torments himself with memories and breaks out the booze.
Casa Juana/Current shark tank: Fernando the Chum didn’t even bother to change his shirt before drifting over to Tiburoncita. She asks him how Arturo is and plays Nice Nursie, dabbing him with a handkerchief. He says the physical wounds don’t hurt as much as knowing he betrayed Arturo. Tere mentions Oriana paid a social call and Fern says he can imagine how that went. Tere says poor Oriana just doesn’t understand how awful Arturo has been, and she likes Luisa so much. Tere reminds Fern that she was present when Oriana coerced him into an engagement to Luisa, and she knows he didn’t really want to get married. Fernando hesitatingly says Oriana has suggested inTeresa is only interested in him por interesa. She says of course not. She admits that she likes that he has money, but more importantly, she likes the kind of person he is, the kind who always gets what he wants and keeps achieving, unlike Arturo, who gave up (my translation: he’ll ALWAYS have money). Fernando seems to take this as an attraction to himself rather than to his bank account, and they smooch gingerly through the blood and gore.
Casa Aurora: Lucía has convinced Luisa to at least go out to the garden and get some fresh air and sunshine while she cries. Luisa still thinks her life is over, Lucía says buck up, etc. etc.
Hospital: Aurora gives a white rose to Mariano and apologizes and asks for forgiveness.
Claro. Smoochy smoochy smoochy.
Garden of Aurora: Luisa’s still crying and she doesn’t think she can be as tough as Lucía, who got over a truly abusive relationship.
Shark Tank de Juana: The gruesome twosome are sucking face, but Terror’s reminiscing about gettin’ busy with Arturo. She pulls away, claiming she doesn’t want to hurt his clobbered cuerpo. Fernando finds that raging hormones make an effective analgesic, so they liplock and go horizontal on Juana’s poor abused sofa once more. In walks Armando. Busted!
Hospital: Mariano says he never ever wants to be apart from Aurora again. She says she was foolish; it was like the “Pedro y el Lobo” (Peter and the Wolf) story. He says it’s his own fault; he was such an idiot for so long. But his interest in Teresa is dead and buried; this time he really just wanted to save Luisa from more hurt. Aurora catches him up on the news of that battle front.
Juana’s House of Now-Ill Repute: Armando is VERY DISAPPOINTED.
Fernando tries stupidly to explain that he cancelled his engagement because he’s in love with Teresa! Love! Just listen! They throw him out and Teresa tries to convince her dad that it’s not as bad as it looks! Arturo is such a meanie, and Fernie is so sweet! Armando is not having it. Refugio is right about Teresa, she’ll do anything for money. Teresa insists it isn’t like that! They fell in LURVE! Finally she admits that it’s true she will do anything to get what she wants. The ends justify the means. He begs her not to do this, so dishonestly. He clutches his chest and collapses on the floor. Teresa panics.
Penthouse: Arturo drinks and smashes pictures. WHY?! WHY?! The doorbell rings. He lurches over and finds Oriana acting uncharacteristically sweet and sympathetic. Ranting continues, second verse same as the first…
Juana’s: Armando is still conscious but in pain. With his remaining breath he tells Teresa to do the right thing, then he goes blank and still. Teresa shakes him and screams.
Penthouse: Oriana’s back to her cantaleta. It’s all Teresa’s fault; she’s a social-climbing golddigger and always intended to get her claws in Fernando. Arturo blames Fernando for taking advantage of his misfortune. He would like to strangle him with his own hands.
Juana’s: Teresa calls for an ambulance. Armando isn’t looking so good. Teresa runs outside and finds Aurora and they rush back in.
Penthouse: Arturo sobs and Oriana hugs him and says there there, cry it out. She claims she’s hurt as much as he is, which seems presumptuous and blatantly untrue.
Juana’s: Aurora tries to revive Armando, but can’t. He’s a goner. Teresa screams and wails. Aurora stands back and observes possibly the only genuine emotion she’s ever seen in Teresa.
Sidewalk: Refugio walks home from the market with Juana and Cutberto, and they say they hope they’ll have such a long and happy marriage as Armando and Refugio. Cutberto says something about cutting a flower from Teresa’s garden that I cannot comprehend and they all laugh.
Juana’s: Teresa’s still wailing, and the dirge choir has reported for duty on the music soundtrack. Aurora still stands there like she isn’t sure what to do.
Penthouse: Oriana helps Drunky to the couch and he tells her where to find Luisa.
Juana’s: Teresa’s a little calmer, and Aurora asks her what happened. She remembers Armando’s shock at finding her with Fernando, but doesn’t mention this. She says he just showed up but fell ill before they could talk. Ramón rushes in and says there’s an ambulance here and is stunned to find that Armando is dead. Aurora says Teresa should be the one to tell her mother and she goes off to talk to the ambulance people. Ramón offers condolences.
Penthouse: Arturo can’t stop thinking about Teresa and Fernando rolling in the hay, behind his back (what? Would he rather watch?). It’s making his blood boil (me hierve la sangre). Oriana assures him that Teresa doesn’t love Fernando, she just wants his money. So she asks for a favor: don’t divorce Teresa, so she can’t marry Fernando and get her way. Meanwhile, she’ll try to beat some sense into her sharkbait son.
Juana’s: Teresa lights candles and holds Armando, who is bathed in a heavenly glow. She tells him he was the best father ever, even though she wasn’t the best daughter. There’s so much heavenly glow in the room, one might think this was the beginning of a redemption for Teresa. She wails and says she isn’t as strong as she seems and begs his forgiveness. Refugio walks in and gasps.
Avances: Mourning. Teresa makes out with Arturo at the wake, in front of God and everyone.
Voy a ver si ya puso la marrana/voy a ver qué puso la marrana – I’ll get out of here. As a command: Ve a ver qué puso la marrana – get out of here (lit. go see what the pig is wearing).
Carencia – a need, a lack
Decencia – decency (inclusion in today’s vocab is for Teresa, since she’s unfamiliar with it)
Paliza – thrashing
Cantaleta – same old story
Me hierve la sangre – it makes my blood boil
