Amor Bravío #88 (Uni 83) Thu 12/20/12 Amor Desesperado

Buenas noches on the last night of the world!  Or the last night of this age, anyway :)  I've got a cold beverage and some nachos on the way, so let's get this party started!

Camila gets chloroformed and dragged away, leaving Daniel's necklace and la pobre de Maja behind.

Snotty Bitch wants to leave ASAP…she can't stand seeing Pablo with Luzma.  Cayetano won't back her play.  If she wants to go home, she'll go alone.  Snotty Bitch makes her apologies to Agustina, who offers her a pill for her headache, but she declines it and leaves.  Cayetano moves over to sit near Yago.  Agustina notices Dionisio staring at Isadora and asks him why the hell he keeps staring at her.  Dio gets pissed and says if he did like Isa, he would have married her instead of Augie.  He asks if someone's putting ideas into her head, but Augie denies it and glares at Francisco.

Alonso, like me, is getting his drink on.  But his is pure liquor and mine is something fruity with maraschino cherries.  And I'm in a much better mood than he is.  It's probably the cherries.

Amor Bravío #87 (Uni 82) Wed 12/19/12 "Camila is Kidnapped"

Old news in town

Dio and Isa have just been caught making out in the wine cellar by Ximena.  Dio frets about what Ximena will do with this news.  Isa tells him not to worry, Ximena isn’t going to be a problem.  Isa has her under control.  Dio is not so sure. They carelessly kiss goodbye; this time they are seen by Father Franky who puts that card up his sleeve.

The gang is all up at the balcony overlooking the bull corral admiring El Duende - Camila, Mariano, the kidlets and Yago.  Pablo and Luzma wave to them from across the way.  Adorable Ana ask, “Is that the novia that grandma doesn’t like?” when she hears the name Luzma. Embarrassed laughter ensues and the gang changes the subject to congratulate the happy couple.

Dio is in the rancho office thought bubbling to himself.   Hmm, he realizes that, indeed, the Buenaventura is worth more than El Malquerida.  Isa’s idea to seduce it out of Cayetano’s, er, hands may not be such a bad plan.  He worries about Ximena keeping quiet about seeing him kissing Isa in the wine cellar.  After all, she’s a bold one (atrevida), that Ximena.  Imagine if Dio’s secret fantasy girl Camila were to find out.  Que horror!  No, Dio decides he must do something bold to keep Ximena under control

Amores Verdaderos #29 Wed 12/19/12 My Eyes Adored You; The Friendship Cake; The Late Night Swim

I am taking a break from baking Christmas cookies to write this recap. I have been making a traditional German Christmas cookie called Lebkuchen with a touch of the Italian (one side dipped in dark chocolate) and of course Snickerdoodles. I only mention this cause Chrissie gives Ms Vikki something in the baked good department. What you ask? Please read on. Title of this recap courtesy of Frankie Valli.

We start this epi with Nikki down for the count. We also have a meeting with Ms Vikki and Chrissie in Ms Vikki's office.

In the outer office, Gilda has taken a delivery of a package. She reads the card that comes with it and of course it is, wait for it, a package from Odette Longoria containing a product she represents and she wants the employees of Meta Imagen (henceforth known as M.I.) for them to enjoy. The nerve of her, Gilda says to Lucinda, who is lookin' mighty verklempt! Gilda calls for the Angel, who has come back with those copies. She is trying to stop him from going into the office where Ms Vikki and the Angel's wifey pooh are. She gives him what looks like two binders to make more copies to keep him busy. Three copies of one, four of the other. The Angel is like, hey wait a minute, I am Ms Vikki's bodyguard and I should be watching over her. Well, there seems to be noone else to do this, so the Angel has gotta do it. So Angel is gonna go, but notices the box of stuff Odette sent. Gilda opens the box and it's another La Vaca product just like the cheese, but this time it is drinkable yogurt. Gilda wants to toss it before Ms Vikki sees it, but the Angel manages to get a bottle of it to try, and tells Gilda all about that wonderful cheese he tried from the same company. Gilda warns him not to let Ms Vikki see this or else he'll be in trouble. No worries he says, hides the bottle in his suit jacket and goes. Gilda has put the box back under the desk.

Por ella soy Eva #107 12/19/12: Eugenia vs. A Mega Actress; Renato Comes Out of the Closet

Hola,

Pluti is in Helena’s office talking about the fraud file that he looked at on her desk yesterday and how Eva is in the middle of everything.  He doesn’t’ trust her, but Helena says that Eva is the only person that she trusts.  Pluti (for once) shuts up about Eva because she is Helena’s friend.
Pluti is on the phone with Raul Mendoza who is already at Ixtapa.  He will see him soon with his fiancée.  Raul is poolside, rubbing some unknown young lady.

Eugenia is saying her role but she is not too happy with the other actress, who is the protagonist.

Renato is telling Helena that Rebeca is planning a 25th anniversary celebration for G.I.  That is why she went to Acapulco.  Renato shares with Helena- Between you and I she works hard but she is a pest.  Helena changes the subject- I don’t’ want to be a busybody BUT what’s happening with my best friend, Lucia.  She is a wonderful girl, you won’t find anyone better but she seems to be a jerk magnet.

Lucia asks Eva, what type of woman is Renato attracted to? Someone like Rebeca.  Lucia and Renato have not shared any nookie and Eva tells Lucia in a roundabout way that she is not the problem.  Speak of the devil- he comes Renato.  Eva’s cell phone rings.  Renato will have a long talk with Lucia later.

Eva runs into the bathroom to answer her phone. It’s Helena.  She wants to meet in their usual place.
Helena shares with Juan that she is confused and that she suspects everyone.  Juan is happy that she is recouping the confidence that she had in him.  She doesn’t want him to misinterpret what is going on, (but let’s read between the lines).  If it wasn’t for Eva, she wouldn’t be doing this.  Eva is like her guardian angel, who will never deceive her.

On the novella set- Eugenia cuts the scene again and the other actress has a hissy fit because she is the major star and no one should call cut when they feel like it.  The other "mega" actress according to Eugenia lacks talent and Eugenia excuses herself from the set.  Ms. "Mega" Actress has a million Twitter followers, so she is the real star, not the crazy, old woman with an attitude, next!

Helena still doesn’t think that Pluti is involved.  Juan lets her know that for ambition and power he is capable.  Helena throws it back to Juan, that a man can deceive a woman and her family for ambition. (She should listen carefully to her own words)  Juan says that love transformed him and he will prove it to her.

Tomorrow Pluti is going on a business trip, he can’t give Helena any details but he wants her to accompany him.  Pluti arranges for Helena to get time off.

Helena explains to Eva that she is going to Ixtapa with Pluti.  She has a doubt in her mind about his involvement and she is checking it out.  Eva is not to tell Juan- LOL.  Please be discreet, Eva.

Eva wants to go, but since this is a secret trip, her appearance at the beach wouldn’t be wise.
Eva gives Helena a list of recommendations:
1.    No sleeping together
                      2. Go to separate rooms
                                3. No stowing away

Mimi volunteers to keep Adriano busy in Eva’s absence because he will die without her.

Helena tells Lalito that she will leave early tomorrow for Ixtapa.  He will stay with Silvia.  He is sad that Mad Dad lives alone, but Silvia says that he will be fine.

Mimi shows up at Adriano’s house, because Eva sent her.  Adriano doesn’t like this one bit.  Eva calls him dressed up as Juan (cowboy, big moustache).  Her aunt choked on a chimchanga and died.  The man behind Juan is watching the whole conversation in disbelief.  Adriano wants to be with her, but she is boarding and it's too late.

Silvia is still a little hurt from Mad Dad's rejection but she is feeling strong and will proceed with her divorce.  Helena is going to support her.

Eugenia is very upset about what went on at the TV series. The protagonist is not an actress. She was terrible.  She wants to talk to the producer.  The protagonist is only a pretty face. The role of Minerva is not for her.  She’s been fired.  They would rather have an inept actress than an international star. The brat girl is eavesdropping and laughing.

In Ixtapa at the hotel Juan tries to get info at the front desk but is sent to the employee’s entrance and should pick up his work uniform.  Rebeca comes up to the counter and inquires about the arrivals of Mendoza and Pluti. Juan (the cowboy) bumps into a French girl who was the same girl getting rubbed down by Raul Mendoza at the pool. She requests a room near to Pluti's because they are such good friends.  Rebeca starts bad mouthing Helena.

Eugenia’s agent tells her to be patient that acting has changed since she was in her prime and that other roles will come forth  or not.

Silvia and Lalito share a public announcement for milk.  They compliment each other and share milk and cookies.

Mimi is at Adriano’s house feeding him dinner.  He asks if Eva cooks as well. Mimi tells him, no.  Since Eva can’t cook, maybe Mimi can teach her.  Mimi suggests that he learn how to cook or is he too macho to do so.

At the Escudero’s apartment- Angelica is painting herself to go out.  She thought that Santi was going to work late.  He tried to trick her and ask her if she was going out with her BF Rebeca, but Angelica tells him that Rebeca is away, he should know that, so will be going out with her male friend from “work”.  He is not to talk to her in that tone. Is Santi jealous?

Mimi has a play with words with Adriano, on whether she should stay or go home.  Adriano hugged Mimi and had a strange feeling. (a woody-hmm??)

At Grupo Imperio-Lucia is whining about going out to eat or even going out for a coffee.  Renato rips her a new one and lets her know that work is his priority and he has made sacrifices to get where he is.  He is saying it with tears and fire in his eyes.  Lucia tells Renato that she gets it.  His priority is work, hers is love.  She goes on about life being empty without love.  Renato apologizes and says that tomorrow they can go wherever she wants.  She leaves him.

Mimi tells JC that she is making strides with Adriano and Juan wants her to focus on what he is telling her.  First he arrives in Ixtapa and then Rebeca arrives, she is supposed to be in Acapulco.  The Mendoza arrives.  Why is Rebeca there?  Is she involved?

At The Contrera’s house- Fernando is going to wash the dishes before he goes to work.  Huh??  Just as I thought, he doesn’t have a job.  He too bothers the Virgencita to help him find a job.

Lucia asks Santi if he has straightened out things with his wife.  He confesses to Lucia that he is not happy.  Santi is not lucky with women because he goes for the easy ones.  Santi asks Lucia about Renato and she says that they are going to have dinner and talk and she is going to make him a very romantic, Hollywood type dinner with candles and the works.

Ixtapa- Pluti and Helena arrive.  Surprise, surprise, there is only one room, Pluti blames the secretary or the mix up.  Helena isn’t too happy and hopes that Pluti isn’t tricking her into a night of the horizontal mambo of course not, so they sign into two rooms. (It’s eye-rolling time for me)

Santi is sitting at the computer supposedly working and Renato comes up and asks about Angelica.  Renato tries the – hey we’re boys and you can tell me anything, but Santi isn’t feeling Renato.  He is still bitter about the way that he broke up with Lucia.  He tells Renato that Lucia is wonderful and he treasures her.  Does Renato feel the same?
Ixtapa- Rebeca calls Angelica to give her the 411 on her trip and Helena, they basically talk about nothing and Angelica hangs up on Rebeca because she is soooo busy.  Rebeca needs to find a better type of friends.

Renato comes into Helena’s office where Lucia is actually working, but Renato needs to speak to her and he doesn’t know where to begin.

A frustrated Santi calls Angelica and she tells him about another assignment that she has.  She better be at home when he gets there and she better be awake.   She tells him goodbye and laughs and it sounds like someone else is laughing in the room with her.  Does she have a jump off???  Uh oh- Santi is going home.

Lucia thinks that Renato has another woman.  She wants to know, who is she???  What does she lack?? Breasts, change her hair color?? You are perfect but it doesn’t move me because I am gay!!!!!

In Ixtapa- Pluti introduces Helena to Mendoza.  He is going to help her restart her agency- Moreno Travel.  Juan with the moustache passes by and wants to see Helena.

Coming attractions-
Pluti discovers that Rebeca is in Ixtapa and Juan gets caught with the french girl being in his personal space

Amor Bravío #86 (Uni 81) Tue 12/18/12 Duende hits the spa!

Bravio #86  Tuesday 12/18/12  Duende hits the spa!

Camila reenters the boudoir, wearing only one of Daniel’s shirts.  “Guau!” he says, “That shirt definitely looks better on you!”  She playfully says that’s because everything about him fits her very well.  He then suggests his medal will definitely fit better on her as well.  He explains this medal has accompanied him since he arrived in Mexico.  It’s very special to him and now he wants it to accompany her.  He wants to remember this moment forever, knowing that she freely loves him and wants to be with him. Since he has no ring, he wants to give her this medal as a symbol of his love and his commitment to her for the rest of his life.  He gets down on one knee……..and then asks, “Te quieres casar con migo?”  (my heart flutters, Ay Papacito, of course!)  They stare into each other’s eyes and she gets a little smirk on her face.  He asks her not to laugh and she bursts out laughing and tells him of course she wants to spend the rest of her life with him, obvio!  They smooch and he swoops her off her feet.  She warns him he could hurt himself to which he replies, “I won’t hurt myself because nothing about you can hurt me.  On the contrary, it only makes me stronger.  It makes everything possible.  It makes me want to live, makes me happy, makes me laugh, you fill me….sigh….everything!”  Cam:  “I know it’s been very difficult for us to be together”  Daniel:  “oof!”  Cam:  “Oof! I would shed every tear again in order to be here in your arms forever.”  Daniel:  “You’re now in my arms and you’ll never have to cry again.”  They repeat how happy they make each other.  We now go into slow mo as they head over to the bed…..and well, we fade out to give them some alone time.

Amores Verdaderos #28 Tue 12/18/12 Jealousy, lipstick, and really tasty cheese

Amores Verdaderos - 12-18-12 Cap 28—Jealousy, lipstick, and really tasty cheese

Another phoning it in. More phoning in than usual. I did do a recording of the episode and have some screen caps planned. Let me do a really brief overview just to have something up. Hopefully will fill out the details later. I half-watched this as it was airing. Too much to do these days in real life!

EVENTS NOT LISTED IN ORDER. THERE MAY BE ERRORS. DO NOT HESITATE TO CORRECT ERRORS OR OMISSIONS! :)

Edit: Some screen caps are added. They are okay, but not up to my usual "quality" *cough* because I couldn't get just the right frame (the software I used didn't allow me to go frame-by-frame like Quicktime can). Will try to add a few more later.

* Guzmancito tries to explain to Nikki that he didn't rat her out to Lily over her bulimia. He'd just been saying that "someone close to him" had it. Nikki gives him lip. Denies she's sick. He then says, fine, he'll have to go to her parents since she's not going to seek help herself. She tries to suck up to him. He coldly informs her that he works for her but they'll never be friends. She looks sad about this.

* Big Angel is showing his bandages from the tree accident and telling the kitchen staff (and I think Guzmancito) about everything, and how amazing Vicki was when she got help for him.

Big Angel looks thoughtful as he marvels about how Vicki overcame her great fear of water to get him help.
* Vicki finds Kendra's lipstick smeared on Nelson's shirt, and smells Kendra's perfume. Commence a big screaming scene in front of everyone as she confronts an impactado Nelson, whose watery eyes widen in deer-in-the-headlights shock. Salsero aka Dancing with Sunglasses at first seems to affirm that Nelson was with Kendra by saying that it is her lipstick and perfume on the shirt. He thoughtbubbles that this is his big chance to destroy Nelson. But then apparently he changes his mind and covers for Nelson, and admits with subservient, puppydog eyes that he "borrowed" Nelson's shirt in hopes of impressing Kendra, and it worked! Nelson "forgives" Salsero while Vicki looks stupid and feels like a shrew for accusing her faithful hubby. *cough*

Feigning contrition, Salsa-dude covers Nelson's behind with a lie.

Por ella soy Eva #106 12/18/12: Fernando Does Not Do the Dishes.

We rerun Silvia's most recent kiss-off of Eduardo. I just hope she can stick to it this time. "Goodbye forever," her note says. He looks surprised and maybe even a bit regretful. Idiot. Silvia goes back to Helena's apartment and says: "You were right, men like him never change."

Renato wants Jackie to spread rumors that he's squeezing Rebeca, even though Rebeca reminds us she doesn't put out for salaried plebes. She prays to the Virgincita to save her from nacos.

Santiago calls Lucia - he's drunk, she's sleepy. She boasts: "Renato has come back to me." He, on the other hand, feels Angelica is putting the horns on him. Also, they're of different classes, she threatened to incinerate him, they're oil and water. The phonecall ends when Angelica comes home. Santi yells at her, she points out he's drunk, he makes a pass at her, she turns him down.

As Silvia cries on Helena's shoulder the doorbell rings. It's Eduardo. Helena tells him to leave but Silvia goes out in the hallway with him to say she wants a divorce. They've had this exact conversation before FF>>

New day. Wait, what is this? Is Fernando actually going to do some cleaning up? The house is an amazing mess. Marcela gives him housecleaning tasks, he doesn't even complain, he's obviously eating humble pie. He's as pathetic at housework as you might imagine, and even hurts his back picking up a hankie. Uh oh, better not strain himself, he thinks...

At work, Lucia greets a hungover Santi. He says the fact Angelica isn't drinking any more proves she has a lover! Lucia says, you have no proof of anything.

Angelica asks Rebe to give her an alibi.

Helena tells Juan/Eva: "We must not suspect Eva - Juan's mother has cleared her." I think this is the most idiotic plot retardant ever. JC hasn't told Helena he's Eva? Give me a #^$%# break.

Helena then tells Juan/Eva: "I'm beginning to believe you're not guilty but don't call me 'my love,' and further, I have no reason to suspect Pluto of anything."

Rebe tells Adri they should have a big party for the 25th anniversary of GI. Adri isn't really listening but when Renato says it's a good idea, she gets an ok, and permission to go to Acapulco to scout out possibilities.

Rebe tells Santi: "I was with Angelica in a bar last night." But Santi hears Jackie tell Lucia: "Rebe was here at work VERY LATE with Renato last night." So Angelica was lying! Santi and Lucia yell at each other that they're going to find proof that their sweeties are unfaithful!

Lucia confronts Rebe (for stealing her man). Rebe: "Renato is not what he appears..." Eva hustles Lucia away before Rebe can say "he's gay."

Helena tells Eva: "I've talked to Juan." !! Whoever did the fraud is very clever. It's Raul Mendoza they must seek, but he's on a long trip... Pluto enters. His mouth drops open when Eva asks him what he knows about Mendoza, but he gets the whole commercial break to come up with an answer. "Yes, I know him, but these 'work friendships' aren't much. Why do you mention him?" Eva: "I need a lawyer for some business concerning my aunt Maria Ingrata (heheh)." "Is she about to die?" Why do you always hope for the worst? No, it's that vultures are after my aunt's little nest egg... that's why we were talking about him. ... but you look kind of pale..."

Daniel is going to take Jennifer to Acapulco, they'll be alone...

Marcela pays back the money Fer ripped off. Adri can't understand why she doesn't dump the loser. She says Fer's an idiot but not a bad person. "And you love him." "Sometimes I doubt I'm doing right, but he's my life, I chose him and promised before God to stay with him. Yes, I love him." "Without love, we can't live," Adri hums a little song.

End of the day, Fernando's family comes home, the house is worse than when they left. Marcela yells. Fer says, "This kind of work is for women. I got a job, so now things can be as they used to be."

Jenny takes advantage of Fer's good mood to say she wants to spend the weekend with some friends to 'study.' "I, as head of the family, give you permission," says Fer, though Marcela wanted phone number, names, addresses.

Pluto gives Helena the snake eye for mistrusting him.

Tomorrow: Pluti and Helena go to Acapulco, followed by Juan in his dreadful moustache and cowboy hat. Also Rebeca. Also, I assume, Jennifer and Daniel. Pool party!

Amor Bravío #85 (Uni 80) Mon 12/17/12

Capitulo 85:   Ready, Aim....

Lo del pasado

The official at the police station assures Rafael that there are adequate charges to keep Leoncerdo in prison a long time and there are no charges pending against Andres Duarte.  With regard to the missing pistol, finding it would bring another murder charge against him.  Becerra and Teresa talk about Dante and about Daniel's arrest.  Alonssso is served, attempts to rip El Diablo a new one, and finally walks off, leaving Hissadora to demand to know what side El Diablo is on.

Lo de nuevo

Becerra in office / Daniel at Vivi's: They talk on the phone about Teresa's fact-finding mission and Dante. Daniel isn't sure what company he works for, but is sure that it's a large one. Daniel doesn't quite understand why there is no record of his arrest.  Becerra tells him he is about to file the papers regarding Daniel's dual citizenship, which will give him protection in this situation. Since Francisco Javier is Mexican, this will not be a problem. Daniel is pleased at this, since his mother loved Mexico and his heart has been stolen by a Mexican lady.

Amorcito Corazón Discussion #174-178 Dec. 17-21

In case you did not read the earlier comments, for some reason Univision cut part of Friday’s episode (that I’m betting no one saw b/c of the tragic events in CT) and part of Monday’s episode and gave us one episode.  I hope this isn’t what they will do in the future to finish off this TN b/c Uni has pulled this before.  FYI, this recap isn’t in chronological order.

Por ella soy Eva #105 12/17/12

Juan's mom pulls his butt out of the fire with Helena, verifying that Eva is her lifelong friend who never met Juan but fights for his justice . Afterwards, Juan and his mom have an incredibly cute chat about truth and the danger of getting too stuck in your role.

Helena apologizes to Eva for doubting her... Eva: forget about it, our friendship is bulletproof!

Later, at Helena's place, Helena and Eva are talking about Lalo's granddad... and... speaking of second chances, says Eva, don't you think Juan Carlos deserves another one of those? Helena gets a little misty. She mentions that she had put the Juan thing behind her and she thought it would be better to be with a steady man who loved her. (but she doesn't say that she loves Pluti). Speaking of the Devil, here he is at the door! Eva scowls as they smooch.

Marcela's clever daughter wonders why she continues to support the awful Fernie, despite his terrible behavior.

Eduardo's brother (I think) calls Helena's mom to assure her that Eduardo was depressed without her, and that they make a great pair (is he stupid? The only thing that Eduardo makes a good pair with is a kick in the pants!).

Oooh, Juan's mom has some biting words for her husband - now she realizes that he was trying to hold her back, to keep her down because she was too much woman for him. He is of the common people, the simple people with simple lives who just want to keep everyone down to their vulgar level!

Oh, no. Helena's mom has prepared a romantic evening for Eduardo. She lights candles pours some wine, lets her hair down, and arranges her robe seductively. I doubt this will end well. And it doesn't. He takes a half-sip of wine, gets up, and mocks her for looking ridiculous and acting silly. He just thought they were going back to normal. Gross. She cries herself to sleep.

Aaaah, Helena confronts pluto about that "implication" business. He makes an excuse too lame to write down. Then he goes out and returns the text to Mendoza, his mysterious man.

Rebeca gets Pluti's email  by shaking her maracas... she groans, you're just as boring in your emails as you are in bed... But she finds something! As Pluto is writing to Mendoza about a plan to meet in Ixtapa, Rebe is noticing a lot of emails about the same guy. Interesting!

Helena is awake late trying to decide whether to call Juan, when her mom walks in (hair back up), finally trying to escape from Eduardo.

In fact, the same bastard is this very moment reading the note she left. She had been so excited to meet the man she loved for thirty years, but the jerk met her with the same old insults. She can no longer keep alive the last drop of their love. He scowls some more.

Weekend Discussion: Novela DVD Sets; Do you own any and do you recommend them?

This comes up once in a while when we mention past novelas and this is a subject that deserves attention.  I thought I'd bring this up tonight since we don't have any new episodes tonight and Amor Bravio is being shown as highlights of the story to date.

As of now I have found no abridged novela boxed set that even gets close to the original.  They feel like highlights of events and no more.  The main characters have less depth.  Often some entire minor and even supporting characters end up on the cutting room floor and some subplots make no sense because of this.  The greatest love scenes usually survive the editing process, but the equally great confrontations are usually missing.   Original theme songs from the broadcast usually are missing and others are substituted, and in some cases that changes the entire soundtrack.  I wonder why the networks bother, especially because the DVD set usually contains about 5% of the total running time.

If you have any of these, let loose with your praise and/or criticisms.  If anyone from Televisa, Telemundo, or Venevision is reading this they need to know how we feel.

El Mundo de Telemundo, week of December 17, 2012 -- Discuss amongst yourselves.

A gentle reminder, especially to folks who are new to this blog:

WE DON'T POST SPOILERS HERE.  We don't refer to anything that hasn't actually happened on the shows we are watching.   If you read a possible spoiler on another site (Wikipedia, among others), it's fine to post a link to what you read.  People can decide whether to click on the link or not.  But please don't tell us what is going to happen -- we want the pleasure of enjoying the story as it unfolds.

Thanks to everyone for understanding.

A word about El rostro de la venganza

In view of the tragedy in Connecticut this morning, I can't bring myself to write about this show tonight.  Maybe I'll feel different about it next week.  Maybe not.  But the floor is open to your comments, of course.
--------------------------------------------------------

Some thoughts about Pablo Escobar

I wanted to share with you a few particularly striking lines from a work by Gabriel García Marquéz on  one aspect of this dark time in Colombia's history:

Una droga más dañina que las mal llamadas heroicas se introdujo en la cultura nacional: el dinero fácil.  Prosperó la idea de que la ley es el mayor obstáculo para la felicidad, que de nada sirve aprender a leer y a escribir, que se vive mejor y más seguro como delincuente que como gente de bien.  En síntesis: el estado de perversión social propio de toda guerra larvada.
(A drug more harmful than any opiate was injected into the national culture: easy money.  The idea flourished that the law was the greatest barrier to happiness, that learning to read and write was useless, that your life was better and safer as a criminal than as a good citizen.  In brief: the perversion of social values peculiar to every hidden war.)

And this:

La gente llegó a creer más en las mentiras de los Extraditables  que en las verdades del gobierno.
(The people came to believe the Extraditables' lies more readily than the government's truth.)

*The lines in Spanish are taken from an online PDF of  Noticia de un secuestro, p. 76.  The clumsy English translation is my own.
------------------------------------------------

Thanks everyone for another week of fine recaps and interesting comments.  Now it's your turn.

Amores Verdaderos #26 Thu 12/13/12 The Perils of Ms Vikki or Dudley Do Right Takes a Fall

Before I start this recap I want to explain the titles. I am a huge fan of Silent Films, in any language, and what struck me about Ms Vikki in this epi, was she was a lot like the woman in the Perils of Pauline. Men in these film shorts, always thought Pauline needed saving, but actually Pauline ended up saving them. Dudley Do Right, is of course the cartoon. Our Angel is alot like him, except of course he does save the woman every time, and he has a brain. But his good deeds reminded me so much of Dudley Do Right. Now on to the recap.

We open this epi, with the rain, pelting down and our Angel chopping that wet wood. He is determined though to make sure his charge stays warm and dry during this storm. He takes off his belt to secure the pieces of wood  and that theystay together so they don't go slip slidin' down that slippery slope, but of course, he didn't think he would be the one to do so. So down he goes, head over heels into this stormy rio, and what happens, you ask? Well, he gets caught by a rock, with his arm,  it seems trapped. He is in an awful lot of pain and is grunting so. Then to top it all off, the tree on the bank is struck by lightening and wouldn't ya know it, it catches on fire. Well, the Angel is looking up, and as he does, here comes that flaming tree, falling right on top of him. He is still caught under it, but thank goodness the water washes onto the tree and puts that fire out. We don't want to see our Angel turned into barbeque just sayin'. Anyhoo, he tries to call for help, you can tell he is cold and is going into shock and of course he loses consciousness. What happens next you ask? I'll get to that.

Meantime, Ms Vikki is in the house, safe and dry, but very worried for the Angel, he isn't back yet you see. She is wondering what has happened to him. So what does she do you ask? I'll get to that too.

Por Ella Soy Eva #104, Thurs 12-13: It's Adam and Eva, not Adam and Steve.

Helena is interrogating Eva in her office, and Lucero is trying to mask her own laughter at Camil's responses.  Eva has a boyfriend named Juan Carlos.  Helena says there are things Eva has hid in her personal life that affect Juan, and Eva asks "Which?  Yours or mine?"  Mine, Helena says, no, he's not mine, Juan Carlos Caballero (reminds me of the Ana Paula thing in LQNPA).  Helena wants to know why Eva has so much interest in Juan's fraud.  "Por que?  Por que?" she demands.  Eva asks "Que?" and Helena yells at her not to start with the "Que" thing that she does.  Que?  Adriano interrupts the confusion and Helena leaves, but she stops to listen just outside the door.  Adri asks Eva where she's been and Eva tells him she went with dona Eugenia to her audition.  The wheels turn in Helena's mind.

In the hallway Santi scolds Renato for the abrupt way he broke up with Lucia.  Lucia is crying in Helena's office and Renato comes in with his tail between his legs.  She tells him she's crying because of the smog... or maybe it's conjunctivitis.  He's all puppy dog eyes and apologizes for having behaved like a patan.  He starts to say, "I want to ask you..."  Lucia leaps in the air and gloms onto him like an octopus with a tasty fish.  "Yes! Yes!" she shouts, "I'll be your girlfriend again!"  He makes a face like a fish gasping for air as she squeezes the life out of him.

Adriano is telling Eva he doesn't think Modesto likes the idea of Eugenia returning to acting.  Now Eva is out for bear.  She asks, just by coincidence, if Adriano knew Modesto had a second family.  He says no, but she continues to berate him not to lie to her.  He finally admits that he knew something of it but he never met Carmen... oops, well, that was the name of Modesto's second woman.  Adri knew about it but never told Juan Carlos.  Adri defends Modesto, saying that as a man he took care of two families- he didn't abandon either.  "As a man he shouldn't have two families, Neanderthal," Eva screams at him.  Eva gets on her soapbox about how men treat women, ending with her refrain that "We are all Mexicans."  She asks Adri if she's turned him off and no, quite the contrary, he gets turned on by her words when she's fighting for her ideals.  To her chagrin he loves her more than ever.  He gets on his soapbox and Eva glances around to see who in the world he's talking to.

Amor Bravío #84 (Uni 79) Thu 12/13/12 Timmy’s Fallen Down the Well…eerr, Silo! But Maja’s No Lassie; Isa and Caye Talk Bulls***

The Old
In Casa Dio, Natalia secures a job with Dioniso, deciding to be a super secret double agent for the Justice League. In front of the church, Amanda gives Gussy cryptic warnings about her man of mystery husband. At Vivi’s Casa, Camila and Daniel smooch and canoodle in front of their amigos like teenagers. Licenciado Bacerra arrives with Dan’s birth certificate, freshly arrived from Chile. The group rejoices because now Dan can prove he exists and can finally claim his inheritance. Meanwhile, in a restaurant in town, Ximena confirms her reservation in Hell by handing Bruno a fat wad of pesos to enact some malevolent plan on her sister Camila, for which ALonSoLoco will be blamed. You know you’ve gone too far when Bruno has to ask you if you’re sure you want to do this to your own sister.

The New
Hissssadora has changed into her most sexy, tight, high-waist pants, and military bomber jacket for her walk down Money Lane with Cayetano. At least that’s obviously what Isadora has christened the extensive fields of Hacienda La Buenaventura, as she calculates the peso to acre value in her fiendish brain. Cayetano orders one of his ranch hands to let the bulls loose for a run through the enclosed pasture. (Fancy cars, athletic prowess, member size, sexual longevity, BULLS…there are many ways men try to prove their virility. But all Cayetano needs to do to impress Isa is wave around some Benjamins.)

Ximena and Bruno are also working their fiendish brains around the subject of money. He’s surprised to learn that she hates her sister this much, but at the end of the day, all he cares about is the money. He wants the second half of his payment for the dirty deed in US Dollars. He had thought he was going to make himself comfortable in Aculco (to stalk Vivi), but after this risky job, he wants to leave as soon as possible—perhaps go abroad (al extranjero), and return again after a while. Xi doesn’t care. As long as he’s around long enough to finish the job, only then will he get the rest of the money. Bruno assures her, with his slimiest smile, that she’ll be 100% satisfied.

Cayetano continues to talk bull to Isa, who pretends to be interested. Toros de lidia and toros de gordo have to be able to run free in order to be muscular and strong. He takes her to a small shelter house where they can safely watch the bulls run.

We head back to the love fest at Casa Vivi. Dan and Cam continue to make out like the cool kids in the corner. Everyone else pretends that the two of them are listening to them and continue to converse. Osvaldo is very happy that Dan has backed away from Plan B (aka, turn himself in to the popo). Camila is also happy that El Más Guapo has changed his mind. She gives him a few last appreciative kisses, but then announces that she has to go back to the ranch to work, especially now that Natalia has resigned, and to deal with Alonso. Both Dan and Osvaldo are concerned to hear about Nat. Cam doesn’t go into the details, but both Dan and Os can guess the reasons. Os is sure Amanda is more at ease with Nat being far away from He Who Shall Not Be Named-- the other one, not the one without a tongue. (If only they knew!) Os says he’ll offer Nat a job at his notary office. Cami leaves Dan with a few more kisses and words of love, and makes sure the whole Scooby Gang knows to give Dan his next dose of medication in TWO HOURS.

Amor Bravío #83 (Uni 78) Wed 12/12/12 “Camila Surrenders!”

Oh my! The Capitulo viewerville has been waiting for.  Folks, I am here with an annoying cold but duty to the Capitulo calls  – I will try to do it justice!

Old news of El Pueblo

Dio and Agustina’s Bedroom:  Must I rewrite the ludicrous dialogue of this loony couple?  Let me summarize it like this:

Senora Red Riding Hood has become  the mature pawn for the mature perverse Mr Wolf.  She wonders why Mr Wolf has stopped paying attention to her.  Mr Wolf  promises to do a better job even though  Mr Wolf would rather put his paws on the the little Red-Riding Hood daughter.  Mr Wolf growls and Senora Wolf titters and they tumble for a romp in the cottage.

New news of El Pueblo

Viv’s Apartment (newly designated good-guy crash pad of El Pueblo):  The scene opens as the dawn breaks and the camera pans over a sleeping Aaron to Daniel waking up after a rugged night.  He awakens and asks for Camila.   He is disappointed when Aaron tells him she left.  Desperation has settled into Daniel’s heart and now that he has nothing to lose he suggests that the good guys proceed with the Plan B that was discussed last night.
