Fuego en la Sangre 05/05/08: Heroes On Horseback and Rodeo Day Regrets

[For the next month Julie and I will be switching and doing a few double-duty weekends off and on. Sorry for any resulting confusion. –Ed.]

So we begin as evening falls. Gabriela and Father Tadeo have tea while discussing the next day’s rodeo. All the surrounding ranches will have riders there competing for a cash prize. Tadeo asks who’ll be representing their hacienda but Gabbi doesn’t seem to have thought about that.

Juan, still scruffy, sweaty, and covered with enough mud to make even Pig-Pen blush is visiting Libia’s grave. He still thinks of her as his baby sister and he’s brought her a toy burro that he shakes like a rattle for her. A single yellow flower is beginning to bloom on the thorn bush they planted on her grave and fertilized with their blood. (Nice touch, though a bit gruesome when you think about it.) He weeps as he tells her that even though time has passed none of her brothers can forget her and they miss her more and more. He swears to her again that they will avenge her death.
At the hacienda Eva and Grampa Augie are talking in his bedroom. He accuses her of knowing more about the new bricklayers building that cottage than she lets on. Gramps says he saw her giving those plans to Juan and wants to know why she is protecting them and just who they really are. Eva stutters out some excuse about having something else to do and races out of the room. Old Augie is left yelling in his wheelchair for her to come back and tell him.

We beam back to town and we’re back in the “boys’” squalid little bedroom getting to gawk at Franco in his bulging skivvies. Oscar is sprawled out on his bed. (At this point, I’d say Oscar’s only saving grace is that he’s the one brother who apparently knows what to do with a razor.) He looks over at Juan who’s ruminating again. “Why so pensive, bro?” Juan says he’s been tying up loose ends and adding up the facts. He thinks he’s found a way to carry through their oath of revenge. He’s been thinking back to Augie mentioning that what Bernardo loved most was his daughters and says they will be the target of their revenge.

Franco doesn’t quite get it. Oscar explains to him that Juan is thinking of making Bernardo’s daughters fall in love with them, then playing them along and abandoning them afterward. Juan says they’ll devastate them just like Elizondo did to their sister. Franco objects. “He loved our sister!” Juan argues with him. “That’s what that Eva woman says, but we don’t know that! Besides the old guy lied to her and didn’t tell her he was married. That’s our plan. We’ll pay the old man back in the same way. We’ll seduce them, win their hearts, and then chuck them out like they are…..” Juan doesn’t finish the sentence (but you can fill in the blank). “Yes, that’s what we’re going to do.”

Back at the hacienda that night Gramps is merrily singing to himself and playing dress-up with a vaquero bow-tie. Crabiela flies in on her broomstick to see what all the commotion is about. Augie excitedly tells her he’s laying out his traditional gaucho garb (charro) so he can show off in front of the girls at the rodeo tomorrow. Crabiela whooshes around on that broom and grabs the shirt and tie away from him. She tells him he’s not going anywhere. (Gabriela’s inner b!tch is in her element and this potboiler is now cooking with propane!) Poor old Augie deflates. “You can’t do this to me! Why can’t I go? What’s so bad about it?” He complains that he never gets to go out anywhere. (What a tug at the heart-strings.)

Crabiela yells back at Augie that it’s because he doesn’t know how to behave himself and he’s always doing something embarrassing in public. She says she thinks he’s putting on this crazy act just to annoy her. It’s mostly though, she says, because of him taking her daughters down to meet those bricklayers. “My daughters have no reason to socialize with those bricklayers, much less with them being servants! They’re a different class and brought up differently.” Augie objects and says her daughters are grown decent girls. He warns her that if she continues to treat them this way they’ll end up running off with the first man that suggests it. Gabbi is adamant that that will never happen since she is going to be in charge of finding them a proper husband. Augie scoffs and says yeah, just like the one she chose for Sofia. Gabbi instantly sticks up for that south-end-of-a-northbound-horse son-in-law of hers.

Augie, who likely still has most of his wits about him, lays the hard…bottomed truth on her. “She doesn’t love him! For Gawd’s sake, you bought Sofia’s husband to cover up her disgrace. Like always, the only thing that worries you is keeping up appearances.” Augie pleads for her to let the other two girls choose their own husbands and be happy, but she says she knows what’s best for them. Augie sneers and says Gabbi never knew what was best even for herself. She didn’t know how to keep her husband and so he went looking for another woman to find what she wouldn’t give him. (Good one, Pops!) Gabbi accuses him of taking pleasure in hurting her. He insists she’s mistaken, that he’s only trying to take the blinders off her. “Because you were so unhappy shouldn’t mean you should be so persistent as to make them miserable too!” Gabbi doesn’t want to hear any more and says she is not letting him corrupt her daughters with his evil tricks and then locks him inside his bedroom. He screams for her not to lock in him like that. (Class, can you say “parental abuse”?)

The scene shifts to Sarita and Jimena’s bedroom. Sarita can’t stop thinking about her first encounter with Franco. Jimena comes in and is definitely in hormone heaven. She says she wants to talk about those bricklayers again, but Sarita balks at that says she’s got no interest in discussing them. Jimena accuses her of having a crush on Franco. Sarita denies is and says she hardly even got a good look at him. Jimena asks who’s she kidding, and tells her to imagine what it would feel like to have one of them hold them tightly in their strong arms. Sarita covers her ears at all the “naughty” speculation but deep down is just as curious as Jimena.

Back in the Reye’s brothers’ itty-bitty bedroom Franco wonders what that cottage is to be used for and by whom. Juan says he doesn’t know and doesn’t care. All of a sudden we’re face to face with the aforementioned “who”, that being Fernando now looking smugly around Sofia’s bedroom while she turns down her covers and gets ready for bed. He gets his digs in by telling her he can’t wait for the cottage to be completed; that it’s going to be their little lo-o-o-ve nest. Sofia with the perfect pained expression says there’s no way she’s going to live there with him and blurts out that she wants a divorce. Feo emphatically answers “Never!” No! They’re going to be together for the rest of their lives, a fate worse than death for Sofia. He paws at her face. “So you better learn to love me.” She yells at him in frustration that “Love is felt, not learned!” “--Well you’re going to be mine with or without it.”

Back at the Reyes’ again Franco is now dressed and going to the cantina. Juan tells him to be careful since girls like that singer usually have an “owner”. Franco says she’s only working there as a singer, just trying to make a living and should be respected for it. Juan tells him to be careful anyway. Oscar goes out right after and says he’ll be late.
==================

That night in bed Sofia finds it difficult to get to sleep because all she can think about it Juan’s big smile. Juan is exhausted from all that planning of his. They both are restless and end up looking up at the moon on a split screen simultaneously. (Well, it worked in Desti.)

Meanwhile Oscar goes to visit Libia’s grave and lays a little boy’s sombrero that was to have been her little boy’s. He blames himself for never taking as good care of her as he should have. He feels he should be the one lying dead in that grave and not her. He falls face down onto her grave and cries.

Over at the cantina Franco is watching Rosario’s act. Once it’s over Armando and his goons grab Franco. Armando tells him he warned him not to come around there again, but Franco says it’s a business and he’s a customer. Franco admits he’s there because he is in love with her but insists they aren’t going to separate the two of them. Armando laughs and says he’s in charge of throwing out the rubbish and the butch women (meaning Franco). Armando’s goon squad drags him outside. Inside her dressing room Rosario tells Ofelia she’s worried about Franco after the look she saw on Armando’s face tonight. Ofelia asks her if she’s in love with him but Rosario says with a look at her child’s picture that she cannot fall in love with him, nor anybody, and she shouldn’t!! Ofelia will have to keep him from coming to see her.

Outside the cantina, Armando and the boys throw Franco down onto a hay bale. Armando warns him that next time there won’t be any warning; he will be a dead man. He aims his gun and shoots it off to the side just to emphasize the seriousness of his threat. The goons snicker and yuk it up with Armando and walk off. Franco swears to himself that nothing and nobody is going to separate him from Rosario.

The next morning Oscar, Juan and Franco are at work at the hacienda. Oscar teases Franco about being in love with Rosario. Juan reminds them that no one is allowed to fall in love. The only women that should interest them right now are Bernardo’s daughters because they are the way they plan to get even with Bernardo.

Inside the hacienda Sofia, Jimena and Sarita are ready for the fiesta and identically dressed in red and white traditional costumes that make them look like iced gingerbread cookies. Big Momma comes down the staircase to make an entrance and reminds them they are to stick to her like Elmer’s. Jimena and Sarita tell Momma that there are numerous guests and they cannot be rude; they’ll have to meet and greet them like proper hostesses. Gabbi says fine, just keep in sight. Angelic Sofia is excited and pipes up that the charity event will probably raise twice the cash as last year’s did.

Just then Juan barges in and says he’s needing cash for more materials. Gabbi tells him in no uncertain terms he and the others are not allowed to enter her home again, especially unless authorized to do so. She has him follow her into her office. Juan gets off a quick smile to Sofia and she can’t help but smile back at him. Outside Franco and Oscar ask one of the ranch hands what the hubbub is all about. He tells him that there’s a huge party which all the ranchers around have come for and a rodeo with a cash prize.

Juan gets back and tells his brothers that the old biddy got angry because no men are allowed to enter the house it seems. Oscar tells him about the rodeo and asks if he’s interested in riding in it. They watch a couple of the Elizondo girls walking then notice Fernando there talking to the guests. They wonder who he really is since he’s so close to the widow and seems to have a lot of authority. Oscar thinks he’s maybe a nephew or something.

Padre Tadeo comes over to see what the Reyes brothers are doing there and they explain they’re the bricklayers for the cottage. Tadeo warms to them immediately and says he’s aware of the project. He wonders, of course, why he’s never seen them in Church and Juan answers there’s no time for that sort of thing. Tadeo replies there is always time for God. He asks why they aren’t inside at the horse show and they snicker like who’s going to let them go to a big shindig like that. Tadeo says it’s for everyone and gives them red armbands that will allow them to come in and participate as designated members of the Hacienda San Augustin. Once Tadeo leaves Juan says if they hurry and get some of their work done they’ll still have time to get in on the festivities.

Before the rodeo begins, there’s entertainment and Rosario, all basketball bulges and boas, sings for the crowd. She gets off to a good start but freezes when she sees nasty ol’ Nando sitting up in the stands though she eventually gets over the initial shock and finishes her song. Nando sees it’s her and is angry with Armando for bringing her to the hacienda to perform, but Armando says he didn’t hire her for it and didn’t know the first thing about it.

Outside Oscar returns and tells Juan he’s heard that old Don Augustin has been locked in his room by the nasty Elizondo widow and won’t be allowed to come down for the festivities. They both feel it’s unfair. They go around to his window and throw pebbles up at the balcony and try to think of a way to get him down since they aren’t allowed inside. Augie is fully dressed and hoping for a miracle. He begs them to let him out. While Rosario entertains the crowd Juan climbs up the balcony with a rope and they lower Augie down in his wheelchair. Augie is elated.

Meanwhile, Rosario’s set is finished and she’s introduced to the Elizondo’s. She is impactada to find out that Feo Nando is Sofia’s husband. Sofia kindly invites her to stay for the show but Rosario declines. Feo walks her out by way of the stables to slap her around first. Then he throws her out. He looks around and sees Bernardo’s horse tied up in the stall. Just for spite he goes into its stall and whips it mercilessly. (This guy definitely deserves to be put in one of the circles of Hell with a wild horse trampling him for all eternity.)

The rodeo festivities begin. Eventually two of the Reyes’ arrive, dressed in what passes for their best shirts and breeches, to see the rodeo. Oscar tips his sombrero at Jimena. Gramps has rolled himself to the center of the arena and begins to sing (horribly off-key we note). Sofia and Gabbi are shocked to see him there. Sofia seems to find the humor in it eventually, but Gabbi is ready to spit horseshoe nails. Sofia happens to glance over her shoulder during the commotion and sees Juan, who flirtatiously tips his sombrero at her. (Darn those sombreros are huge! Doesn’t it make ya wonder if the size of this particular accessory is a sort of macho implication about the size of the wearer's other male accessories?)

Meanwhile, outside the arena Rosario is racing to her car. Franco notices and runs after her trying to get her attention but she ignores him, or doesn’t see him. Ofelia arrives a couple seconds later behind her and warns off Franco for everyone’s sake. They drive off. He’s puzzled.

Back at the rodeo Gramps is literally tipping the bottle and continues to bellow and neigh his heart out till Padre Tadeo gets a couple of men to take him away. He makes a good save by introducing Sofia to the crowd. She gives her little welcome speech while Juan looks on completely mesmerized. Again she glances over at him and smiles. You could knock Juan over with a feather.

The competition begins. The announcer eventually comes to tell the crowd that so far nobody has been able to win the death pass competition. Franco arrives about then and nods to Sarita.

Armando starts looking for Fernando who is somewhere on the grounds of the hacienda with his poker pals, the ones he owes money. ‘Nando offers them double or nothing for the money he has brought to pay them and a game gets going.

A while later there is still no one who has won the death pass competition; so they’ve doubled the purse. Juan decides to try for it and Sofia is enthralled by his daring. Juan wins the competition. (Kudos to the stunt riders, by the way.) There are plenty of cheers. Mariachi music blares. Children come out into the arena to walk a victory lap with him. Someone comes out riding Bernardo’s horse. It frantically rears and then starts to trample one of the children. Juan lies down and covers the child with his body taking the blows from the horse’s hooves. The boy is saved but Juan is injured, so his brothers carry him off to the stable to rest. Against her mother’s objections Sofia races over to the stable to check on him while Tadeo blocks Gabbi’s tackle by telling her that as the hostess of the event it is Sofia’s duty to see about the rider.

Franco and Oscar leave Juan on a hay bale while they go for medicine to clean his head wound. Juan, starts to doze off. Sofia comes over. She is inexplicably drawn to him and dares herself to touch his face. As she pulls her hand back from his lips he suddenly wakes and grabs her arm, startling her. “You?” he says in disbelief. She explains she was worried for him after what the horse had done to him. He sits up, “Really?” She just stares into his eyes. He’s helpless and goes with the moment. He looks at her mouth and says, “Really? I interest you?” He leans in and they are about to kiss but the moment is lost when nasty ‘Nando comes in yelling for her from the other end of the stable.

When Fernando finds her with Juan, now standing up and tucking in his shirt, she explains to him that Juan was banged around and that she came to look in on him. Fernando feigns compassion and patronizingly says, “Well, but we have servants for this. Your duty is to remain next to me, next to your… husband.” Juan stops in his tracks, wide-eyed and sucker-punched impactado. Sofia looks over at Juan visibly ashamed of her earlier behavior. He looks back over at her and scowls.

Friday, May 2. Juan Q Where we see different ways to prepare for a job interview

Hi everybody, I’m substituting once more for Jeanne, I’m sorry for the delay. As always we start with a little rehash from last Thursday. This has been copied from Sylvia’s recap.

Nidia and Lorenzo are still on their stupid date when Nidia remembers she has to go home right away, it's time to eat and nobody knows where she is. Lorenzo gives her his phone number and kisses her hand. (Oh my, do we suppose that this number will be discovered at an inopportune moment?)Fer goes to Juan's office and divulges that none other than Marely was asking for details on Juan's mystery woman. Juan is impressed. His little rose garden is jealous! No no no, Fernando corrects him. Marely is neither jealous nor a gossip. Fer suspects that someone is behind Marely pulling the strings and that someone is Paula. Juan smiles broadly, aha!!Juan goes to Paula's office and he's holding a red folder. He preens and tells her he had an absolutely delicious lunch. The snails were exquisite and the company divine. Paula snaps back that she's busy, what does he want?Juan reveals that he has another applicant for the VP job. She is a Very Dear Friend so will Paula accept the resume? Paula opens the folder and is muy impactada at the name. "Laura Berrocal is your friend?" she asks, dismayed and put-out.

Today’s show

Paula is very upset; she can’t believe Juan could be helping Laura after all she did to her. Juan asks her to calm down and explain to him what happened. Paula tells him that Laura befriended her mother just to spy on her. Juan asks her if maybe she is confusing her with somebody else. Paula yells that she is sure it is the same one and adds that she won’t accept her application. This makes Juan mad; they fight about Sandro and Laura’s application. –You accepted CL twin’s application “por tus pistolas” (just because you wanted to. Lit for your guns), and now I’m accepting Laura’s application “por mis pistolas” –Are you challenging me? --No you are challenging me (This sounds so much like the arguments mi kids have “you touched me. –No you touched me. –No you touched me first…”) Finally Juan tries to reason with Paula. –If I take Laura’s application is not to upset you, is because I owe her a favor, can you understand that? –Is Laura the mysterious woman? Juan just looks mysterious and doesn’t answer.

Angarita goes to the Chachon residence. He finds Nidia just outside of the house. He tells Nidia that he wants to talk to her. Nidia says that she doesn’t want to talk to him. Anga says he is trying to help her and she is being rude. Nidia says that she doesn’t need his help –aren’t you looking for a job? Nidia says yes. –Well I’m coming to offer you a job. Cara impactada de Nidia.

Juan is back in his office talking to Fer. Fer wants to know what happened because he looks really bad. Juan explains that Paula got very upset when he asked her to take Laura’s application, because Paula hates her and he didn’t know. Fer tells Juan that he is concerned that Juan has another candidate for the Job. Juan tells him no to worry, Fer has all the advantages, because he knows the company and he is young. Fer is not too sure.

Nidia has recovered nicely from her initial surprise. She tells Anga that she is very upset and she won’t forgive him just because he is offering a job. Anga reminds her that she needs the money and he is not going to beg her to work for him. Nidia takes a softer line and asks him what she would be doing. Anga tells her that he needs a secretary. –Isn’t Yadira doing that? Anga tells her that Yadira helps by visiting the clients and doing the accounting. Kike does the delivery and remolacha is not efficient at answering the phones. He needs somebody to helping with the phones and taking care of the warehouse. Nidia gets excited and accepts. Right then Delirio shows up, he is very upset. Nidia tells him to go inside the house. Delirio refuses and calls Angarita names. Nidia explains to him that Anga came to offer her a job and that she has accepted. As of tomorrow she is working in the Market Place.

Paula is talking to Marely in her office; she is fuming and tells her that Juan is always trying to impose his will. Marely tells her to calm down, what could be so bad that she is in such a state. Paula tells her that Juan had the gall to ask her to consider his lover’s application for the most important job in Farrell. Marely is impactada, and tells Paula that they (Marely and Paula) can’t allow it. Paula tells her that Juan doesn’t care and he said that he was going to call her any way. Marely wants to know who the mysterious woman is. Paula tells her that is Laura, Monica’s cousin, the one that spied on Ana and her.

Delirio and Nidia are still arguing. Delirio tells her that his decision of not letting her work at the Market is irrevocable. He won’t let her work with that “vedulero” (This is a term that means person that sells vegetables, but is also used as an insult meaning that you are somebody without an education) Anga answers that he rather be a “verdulero” that a “mantenido” (This is one of the worst insults a Mexican man can receive, it means a man whose wife works and supports him, it is up there with “mandilon” a man that does everything his wife tells him including cooking and taking care of the kids). They keep on insulting each other. Finally Delirio tells him that he is Nidia’s husband and Nidia doesn’t take decisions on her own “no se manda sola” (she is not her own master). Anga tells him that he doesn’t have to talk to Delirio anymore. He talks to Nidia and tells her that if she wants the job, she knows where to find him and leaves. Delirio promises that Nidia will never take Anga’s job; however, Nidia tells Delirio in no uncertain terms that she is taking the job.

At Farrell, Juan calls Laura. Laura asks if he was able to turn in her curriculum. Juan tells her that yes; she has an interview for tomorrow morning. Laura is very excited and tells him that she is going to study because she wants to make him proud. Juan tells her that Paula was very upset when he asked her to accept the curriculum. Laura says that she knows because they had a problem long time ago, but she says she doesn’t care. They say goodbye with the promise that they’ll see each other tomorrow in the interview.

Pastor arrives at Ana’s house and talks to Yvonne. He asks how is Yvonne doing and Yvonne tells him all about Fernando’s proposal. Pastor tells her to take care and make her decision soon or she might lose him. Yvonne wants Pastor to stay a little longer but he says that he wants to go home to study for the interview. Yvonne tells him not to compete against Fernando. Pastor tells her that he is sorry but that’s the position he has been waiting for and he is the best one for the job and this might be his last chance.

Juanito comes out of Juan’s office and goes straight to Marely’s desk. He pushes Paula out of the way says excuse me and then ignores her. He shows Marely a drawing that he made. It is the drawing of Juan, Juanito and Marely and their house. He asks sweetly if she wants to come home with them. Marely tells him that his Daddy hasn’t asked her. Juanito turns around and asks his dad to ask her. Juan asks and she accepts. They all leave. Paula and Juan just look at each other.

I think some how they stopped at Lorenzo’s house but I don’t know what they did to Marely. Anyway, Juanito tells Lorenzo that they miss him at school and that they are misbehaving to provoke the other teacher’s resignation. Lorenzo tells him to stop it; he should be a good kid and concentrate in his studies. Juanito tells him not to lose hope. They’ll drive the other teacher out. Lorenzo tells them that he is already looking for another job. Juanito says that he’ll go to the car (I guess Marely stayed there). When they are alone Juan asks if Doña Pepita is back. Lorenzo says that she is not and he is not going to beg her to come back.

At the Cachon residence Delirio has been trying to rope the rest of the clan’s help to stop Nidia. Yadira doesn’t understand what the problem is. Finally Delirio tells them that Nidia has accepted a job with “el verdulero” Yadira is very impactada and goes straight to Nidia’s room. Yadira asks Nidia if it is true that she is going to work with Anga. She says yes and Anga is going to pay her very handsomely. Yadira tells her that of course he is paying her a lot because he is in love with her. Nidia says that he offered her a deal that she couldn’t resist. Yadira tells her to think about it because it is affecting Delirio. Nidia tells her that she knows what she is doing and she won’t change her mind.

Juan, Marely and Juanito arrive at the Cachon residence and join Delirio’s pity party. Delirio tells them that Nidia took the job. Marely goes to Nidia’s room and asks her about it. Nidia tells her that she is afraid, but Marely tells her not to be afraid, working is not hard and the first thing she has to do is to find out what is her job description. Nidia tells her that Anga told her that she was going to be answering the phones. Marely tells her that she is sure the position involves more that just answering the phone. She tells her a few more things that she might have to do. Nidia doesn’t like it and asks if she is going to get paid more for doing all of that. Marely doesn’t think so.

Pastor is coaching Anga in how to behave with Nidia. He tells him to be firm and to show her that he is in charge. Anga tells him that he’ll show her who is boss. Pastor’s phone rings, it is Heriberto, he is coming by tonight. Pastor is very excited.

At the Cachon residence, Juanito is telling Juan that Marely looked like she was very upset at Juan. Juanito tells him that he doesn’t like it when they are upset. Downstairs Marely asks Kike if the mysterious woman is in fact Laura. Kike tells her that he doesn’t know and Marely gets upset and leaves. Juan comes down the stairs and asks Kike what is the problem with Marely. Kike tells him that Marely was asking about Laura.

Heriberto arrives at Anga’s house. Pastor is very excited and opens the door. Heriberto thanks Pastor for receiving him so late and for helping him study for the interview. Anga shows up and tells Pastor that his house is not a “congal” (according to the urban dictionary Congal can mean a house or a strip club or a whore house) Pastor looks offended.

Yvonne is trying to help set the table. Paula tells her to sit down, she shouldn’t be up. Yvonnes says that she doesn’t like to just sit around and wait to be served. Ana and Willy arrive and Willy tells Paula that he invited himself to dinner; Paula’s says that there is no problem. Yvonne tells Paula that she didn’t know that Ana had a boyfriend. Paula just smiles.

At the Cachon residence, Juan enters Marely’s room without knocking. He is very upset and yells at her. He tells her to stop meddling in his life. Marely tells him that she doesn’t care what he does with his personal life and to leave her room. Juan tells her that he just wanted to tell her to stop asking questions about Laura and to stop snooping in behalf of other people. Marely is furious. Juan leaves the room and thought bubbles that he needed to put his Rosita Jardinera in her place.

Anga and Pastor are having a similar conversation. Pastor tells Anga that he offended them and Heriberto doesn’t deserve it because Heriberto is not his “amiguito” Little friend but his “amigo” friend and he came to the house to talk about work. Anga apologizes, but he tells him that the line between being friends and more than friends is a very thin one. Pastor asks him what would be the problem if he wants to cross that line, he has the same rights as Angarita to love and have relationships. Anga acknowledges this however he tells him that he wouldn’t like to find them playing “pipis y gañas” in the living room. (I know pipis y gañas is a popular game, but I don’t know how it is play; however in this case Anga used it as to say that he wouldn’t want to find his brother making out in their living room)
Pastor looks disgusted and can only call his brother a vulgar “verdulero”

At Ana’s house Paula asks Willy if he appreciates her mother. Ana almost chokes and tells Paula to stop talking and to eat. She asks if somebody else wants more chicken. Willy says he’ll have more. Yvonne complements Ana’s cooking skills; she calls her an artist of the kitchen.

Pastor is back with Heriberto. Heriberto tells him that he needs his help for tomorrow’s interview, because he doesn’t understand all the big words people uses in Farrell. Pastor tells him that he is conflicted, on the one side he wants to help him; on the other he wants the position for himself. Heriberto understands and tries to leave. Pastor tells him that they could make a pact of mutual help. They promise to help each other tonight and tomorrow if either one wins the other won’t have hard feelings.

Nidia goes to Juan’s room she asks his help in making Delirio understand. Juan tells her that Delirio will understand eventually. Nidia asks also about the mysterious woman. Juan doesn’t want to give too many details. Nidia tells him that she wants to meet her because she wants to make sure that she is a good girl. Juan says that he’ll bring her to the house one of these days. Nidia tells him that she would be very happy to meet her. She leaves the room and Juan wishes her good luck on her new job. Juan thought bubbles that Lorenzo and Pepita have a better chance of reconciliation if Nidia is busy.

Paula goes to her mother’s room and comments that Willy is very nice and she is suspecting that the compliments that he gave to the food were more directed to the chef. Paula tells Ana to stop pretending that there is nothing between Willy and her. Ana finally recognizes that she is falling in love with Willy and that she is afraid. Paula tells her not to worry about it and kisses her good night.

At the Cachon residence, Juan, alone in his room is thinking about Sandro and his real motives for wanting to work at Farrell. He doesn’t understand why Sandro would want to work if he is rich now, but Juan decides he is not going to think about that right now, he wants to relax and tells to himself that he should think on something nice. Of course the images that come to his mind are of the times he spent with his Palomita. We hear the “Hay amor” theme in the background.

While he is dreaming of his Palomita, we are treated to a series of images of all the candidates and their respective background music theme and how they are getting ready for the interview. Fernando is studying, Laura is looking for the perfect power suit and Pastor is trying to teach Heriberto basic math.

The next day arrives and CL is transforming himself into Sandro. Sandro tells him not to blame him if people realize that he is CL. CL tells him not to worry, the people at Farrell are very dim and for them CL is dead. They won’t notice a thing, besides he is enjoying this too much and Sandro is ruining the moment with his worries. Sandro tells him that he hopes this moment doesn’t turn into a bad time. CL tells him again not to worry. He’ll enjoy being in the same room with the two that are responsible for his down fall.

The End.

OT: Comment thread for Premios TV y Novela

Don't know if this is is kosher on the blog (Melinama, I understand if you delete it) but since people have been mentioning it all week I thought I would provide a place to comment on it, in case people wanted to, like with the Cristina shows and so that it didn't muck up the comment threads for recaps.

My thoughts:
  • Pasion wuz robbed! I only watched a few episode of Destillando and although I would admit that it was good as the typical novela goes, Pasion was was on a whole other level. I can see Angelica Rivera over Susana Gonzalez but Yanez over Colunga? Sergio Sendel over Jose Elias Moreno (LaFont)?? And the guion for Destillando? Wasn't it just adapted from Cafe con Aroma de Mujer? How is that even remotely fair when Pasion was a fully tricked out original romance novel? Que the hell?
  • At least my girl Jimena (Marisol del Olmo) got a best supporting actress and German Robles, the guy that played Cami's first husband, who was in the novela for all of about 5 minutes got awards.
  • Lots of nods to Fuego en la Sangre. Yanez, Montero and Salinas did a really nice mariachi number. Montero is supposed to be the singer but Salinas has a gorgeous voice and Yanez did a good job too with his booming voice. Joaquin Cordero who plays the crazy old granpa got some kind of lifetime achievement award and pretended to be his Fuego caracter which was amusing. I wonder if this means that Fuego is going to sweep next year's awards.
  • Allisson Lozz is a younger, less stacked version of Maribel Guardia.

Fuego en la Sangre - 05/02/08: "One for all ...and all for one”

A gun has just been pulled and Grampa Augie takes an intervening tumble down the stairs. Scruffy gruffy Juan rushes upward to catch him and keeps the old man from getting hurt. Amazingly, Juan’s big sombrero stays in place, making Juan’s move nothing less than smooooothe. (I know there has to be a trick to that!) Back in his wheelchair, Gramps, dressed like a Central American native, plays kookie to their cocky and says this is a first for him: bricklayers coming to work with weapons instead of shovels and pickaxes. (Gramps has never tried to cross a good ol-fashioned American picket line.) Maybe times have changed and they think bullets and gunpowder do better than mortar.

The Reyes boys don’t know what to make of the old coot. Eva breaks in to tell them to come back the next morning and meantime they can get what they need to start building the cottage out back. The boys are still confused. Gramps breaks in and suddenly yells, "You aren’t allowed to enter the house!" Juan scowls at the old guy thinking WTF??? Gramps is just pulling their leg, “Least-wise not unless you bring a bottle of tequila, the good stuff!” Eva diffuses the scene again and the brothers agree to return the next morning ready for work. Eva takes a deep breath and Augie says she looks a little frazzled but Eva covers and says nothing is wrong.

In the very old and very traditional colonial capital of Puebla, Puebla (puebla.htm Mexico Travel Puebla, Mexico, Cuetzalan, Center ...), Sofia is begging her mother to let her get divorced from Fernando, cuz it’s the pits being hitched to a putz like Feo. Momma Crabiella though, is all tough love and tells her tough luck. The Church doesn’t do give-backs. Sofia’s stuck with Feo, at least in this lifetime.
=============

Back at the brothers’ buggy bakery, Juan is sweating profusely over a hot oven and giving his pecks and biceps a hell of a workout kneading bread dough. Oscar and Franco look on and Oscar mentions the only hitch to this plan is that the only one of them who knows anything about construction is (what a nifty coinkydink) Juan. (Wow, a baker and a bricklayer! What a prize for some lucky señorita some day.) Juan says not to worry since he’ll give them whatever instruction they’ll need as they go along.

Oscar and Franco say they’re not so keen on this vengeance thing now since the housekeeper told them that Bernardo was actually in love with their kid sister. Oscar says it doesn’t make sense to avenge Libia’s death if the offender is dead too, and if he really loved Libia anyway. Juan says that’s not the point. There is more there than meets the eye and only by working for the Elizondo’s can they eventually find out what really went down that night and who iced Libia. It’s not only that they took a blood oath to do so, but that he knows there’s a crime that’s been committed that needs to be brought to light.

In Puebla the next day, Fernando has found himself a corruptible attorney. (No! Say it ain’t so!) The lawyer is a bit skittish about writing up the transfer of power of attorney to Feo since he risks losing his license to practice. Feo persuades him that he’ll be paid very well as always and besides, it’s only a couple of points to sneak into the agreement. He just needs to write them in somehow so that Gabbi doesn’t realize he will be given full, unconditional control over the hacienda and all the family bank accounts permanently.

Meanwhile, Grampa Augie is enjoying breakfast at the Hacienda San Augustin while Eva chats with him. Augie likes the fact she’s hired the three brothers to build the cottage. It’s a good reward for Juan having saved him from a deadly fall down the staircase, but he figures his insufferably nasty daughter will run them off the minute she shows up.

Back in Puebla, Nonefer-Nando wants to see the sights with his Missus. Sofia though, isn’t up for it. She’s too depressed still over her father’s untimely death. It’s too soon for her to enjoy anything. He misses him too, but life goes on. Sofia starts to give ol' Nonefer a bit of the stink-eye herself and says, half-way thinking out loud, that he and her daddy were pretty good buds until the two of them got married. She plunks herself down on the couch to mope as well as mourn. Feo figures they can spend a little time enjoying the fresh air and a few of the tourist traps.
Nonefer-Nando is now exasperated. Sofia would rather be a stick in the mud even though he’s agreed to all her silly conditions and even went as far as to get himself a separate room. The least she can do is to make an effort so the two of them can get along amiably as a couple. Sofia, in a funk, gives him her best “You just don’t get it” stare then looks away wishing she were anywhere, anywhere, but there with the feo Fer.

Downstairs at the café Sarita and Jimena are eating breakfast with their momma. Jimena can’t stop flirting with the eye candy at the next table. Unfortunately for him he makes the mistake of trying to be sociable by coming over to introduce himself to them all. Big Momma shoots him down like The Red Baron himself and makes mincemeat of him in 2 seconds flat. The guy makes his way, ever so humbled, back to his table and doesn’t know what hit him. Jimena starts to whine at Gabbi about what was wrong with the young man coming over to them, but Sarita kicks her a good one in the shins under the table to keep quiet and to just let Momma be Momma for now.

Gabbi explains to her daughters that anyone not from their social strata is off bounds and when the time is right, she’ll pick the proper husband for each of them. Sarita shows her little sis how to play along and gives Gabbi her biggest and broadest “Momma knows best” smile.

Back at the buggie bakery, the two younger brothers (and I’d say younger is stretching it a bit since both Jorge and Eduardo, though well preserved—pun intended, are getting pretty long in the tooth these days to still be playing roles like this) are sampling some of Juan’s salsa and chips. Juan, for his part, is ruminating over the probability that old Elizondo’s widow had something directly to do with Libia’s death. He says he’s sure she has lots of answers for all their questions, so she’ll be the main target of their plan of vengeance. (Even a broken clock is right twice a day.)

Night falls on the old capital of the state of Puebla. And, there being none fer ‘Nando, he finds solace in another poker game where he immediately loses another pile of pesos. Drunk and ready to bunk, he stumbles along the hallway and sneaks into Sofia’s bedroom to try his luck at luhhhv. Nando crawls on top of her sleeping body and wakes her up with a soggy be-sotted kiss. Sofia wakes up to her worst nightmare and screams there’s not none for ‘Nando and there ain’t gonna be, not for him, not for any man. She’s all yesh! yesh! crawly flesh! and filled with repulsion. Nonefer whines that he’s fed up with her frigid attitude and threatens menacingly that once their house is built she’ll be living alone with him and he’ll have her then whether she likes it or not! Sofia screams at him to get out and stares daggers from the corner of her bed.

Eva, meanwhile, sits on her bed in her nightgown and stares sorrowfully at an old photo of two studs: a very young and virile Bernardo standing next to his horse. She remembers the fateful night of passion with him and we fast forward a year later as she and Gabbi are talking in a hallway. Eva gives her her baby daughter to hold. Gabbi shocks her by telling her that she will not permit Eva to raise the little girl (a bastard child, but does she know whose?) in her house. She says she’s taking the child and will provide for her. Eva is helpless to do anything about it. So Eva swears her own revenge against Gabriella for stealing her child so long ago.
============

Next morning in Puebla, Gabbi and Nonefer are at the attorney’s office and she is skimming over the documents regarding control of the estate and bank accounts. She has the lawyer confirm the stipulation that ‘Nando will keep control of the properties and accounts for a brief period only and then full control returns back to her. ‘Nando offers to continue reading with her through the entire document but she declines and says she trusts him totally. The lawyer hands her a pen and the two men share a conspiratorial wink and a nod as a rattler hisses and shakes his tail in the background. Foreboding music plays to a crescendo as Gabriela signs away all her fortune to him.

The Reyes brothers return ready to begin building the brick cottage but Eva, with Augie taking mental notes from his balcony, tells the brothers that she’s changed her mind. She’s not going to let them go through with the plans for revenge because she does not want the family, not even her worst enemy, to be hurt by their actions. Juan and Franco say it’s a bit late for regrets. This was her idea, they agreed and she’s just going to have to suck it up. They’re staying. Juan argues that his sister didn’t deserve to die and more than ever they believe the goings on at this house that night played a role in her death. So it’s an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.

Eva is still objecting when Augie yells down to them and greets them with crazy talk about building huge forts and grand walls. Oscar says to Juan this guy is a nut job, but Franco says he thinks the old guy’s a hoot. Juan says naw, the old man is not as crazy as he pretends and most likely is keeping secrets about lots of things.

Back in Puebla as Gabbi and the gang are getting ready to return to the hacienda Sofia tries again to make her mother reconsider. She begs her not to go through with the building of the cottage, but Gabbi says she’s doing it to save her marriage and one day she’ll be thanking her for it. Anyway, she’s given her word to Fernando and she cannot go back on it. Sofia complains that her mother seems to care more for Fernando than her, her own flesh and blood. Gabbi tells her to stop talking nonsense. Sofia is left alone to weep by her miserable lonesome.

At the hacienda Eva lies to the contractor that Gabbi originally hired that she has simply changed her mind and hired somebody else to do the cottage and the widow refuses to ever have her decisions questioned. Being that she’s on a trip the contractor has no choice but to accept he’s off the job and walks away disgusted. Outside in back Juan and Franco begin to take measurements while Oscar lazes on his back with his shirt unbuttoned, getting some rays. Juan finally sends him off with Franco to get some building materials and he continues working by himself.

In the hotel parking ramp Sofia’s two sisters kid around with ‘Nando and and tell him what a great guy he is and what a shame that Sofia can’t appreciate him like they do. He says, well, it’s no secret she doesn’t love him. They shake their heads in sympathy.

Back once more later in the morning at Hacienda San Augustin it’s gotten really hot. Juan decides to cool off with the bucket of water used for the mortar, so we get a fully gratuitous two minutes watching a shirtless Eduardo in tight riding breeches taking a sponge bath in the baking sun, cooling himself off, inch by inch, pecks, abdomen, biceps…… (Dunno about you, but a shirtless, sweaty guy with 3 days worth of stubble and a do-rag doesn’t do diddly for me. Naw, have EY ditch the do-rag and dig out a razor. Then we’ll talk.)

Finally Gabbi and the gang arrive back at the hacienda and Eva tells her that the construction crew is there and has started working on the cottage. Gabbi heads off to talk to them. As soon as she spies shirtless Juan she has a conniption fit. “Who raised you! What were you thinking, going around here all naked?” Juan just stares at her and asks sarcastically, “What? You’ve never seen a man without a shirt before?” (Loaded question, gAwd knows.) “Just who are you to scold me, anyway?” Eva races up just then and tells him this is the Widow Elizondo and she owns the place. Juan subconsciously squeezes the handle of his hammer at this revelation.

Just then Sofia walks up behind Gabbi to ask a question. One glance between them and it’s love at first sight. The camera blanches their images white on the screen as the two are locked in an endless, endless, endless and meaningful stare full of phenomenal pheromone excitation, and much exchanging of goofy grins. He gives her the hairy eyebrow. She smiles coyly back at him. Crabbiela turns around and scolds and sends her back to the house where they’ll talk privately afterwards, away from the view of shirtless, sexy, sweaty, stubble-faced muscle-man, Juan. He continues to make funny faces at her behind Gabbi’s back and gives her the come-on. Sofia is overcome with heart palpitations as she turns to leave, unable to resist one last look and a silent giggle over Juan’s antics.

Gabbi returns to the business at hand and asks why there are only three of them. Juan says a cottage that size doesn’t need more men to be built. Gabbi agrees to their doing the job and says she expects them to finish the job completely and to do it properly. Juan looks her straight in the eyes and assures her they’ve come to do their duty and, rife with double-meaning for those of us in Viewerville, assures her they will not leave until they’ve fulfilled their obligation.

Gramps, now in a Sherlock Holmes get-up, is watching this through his spyglass. “So starts the Holy Inquisition. The battle between the heroic construction workers and that embittered daughter of mine is going to be mighty entertaining.” He rolls over then to a toy mock up of the accident that killed Bernardo. He notes that the logistics and the “facts” don’t add up. It was impossible for Bernardo to have died the way Fernando says, particularly with Feo conveniently observing nearby. He writes in his journal, “Be careful with Fernando.”

Upstairs also, Sofia looks out her balcony window and daydreams of her odd meeting of Juan moments before, and at the same time Juan is remembering his odd meeting of Sofia. The theme song plays in the background: “True love is worth a thousand bags of gold….. True love is worth a thousand bags of gold. That is why you are my treasure…..” Sofia doesn’t know what’s come over her, why she cannot stop thinking of him, why she feels the crazy way she does. Love is flying through the air along with Cupid’s arrow. Outside Juan cannot stop thinking of her. The song continues, “I’m happy with you. You are very valuable to me. I am speaking from my heart. We’ll forget the past and what people are saying.” He smiles to himself remembering the encounter and her beautiful eyes. Again in the background we hear, “The truth is that I love you. You will love me forever.” Juan says her name aloud, “Sofia!”
===========

Inside Sofia serves lunch. Grampa Augie turns the conversation around to confront Feo with the facts of Bernardo’s death. He says according to the evidence he gave in his statement to the police, the facts just don’t square. Gabbi stops her father and this line of questioning before the impactado’d Fernando lets too many flies into his open mouth. Uh-oh! ‘Nando looks like he’s starting to think that maybe Augie could be on to him. Gabbi chides Augie and says poor Fernando is just as pained by Bernardo’s death as everyone. Gramps says well, Julius Caesar was like a father to Brutus too and look how he turned out: they stabbed him to death.

Table talk turns from quirky Grampa’s silly rantings to Gabbi’s displeasure with the construction man Eva hired. It’s not his work but the fact he seemed like a savage animal ready to attack her. Augie tells her not to speak ill of those workmen since the big, strong one, Juan saved his life the other day. Gabbi’s only thought after hearing that her father nearly died is that those men are not to be allowed inside the house and Augie says as much. Gabbi warns her daughters not to get near them.

Outside Oscar and Franco return with their supplies. They ask about the widow. Juan answers that she’s just like he imagined, a cold, old tyrannical bitch who probably abuses her servants. Oscar says all the better not having to feel a shred of guilt at taking out their revenge. Juan agrees and tells them a single look of her face was enough for him to realize what she’s capable of. He says he’s certain now she mistreated their sister some way and he will have no compunction about squashing her like a rat. (Nice visual here.)

Back upstairs the two younger sisters are watching the men work from their grampa’s balcony window and discussing the Reyes’ numerous physical attributes. Augie tells Sarita watch that she doesn’t turn into a cold fish like her mother. They ask Augie why he was hammering ‘Nando so hard at lunch. He just jokes about playacting like the great detective, Sherlock Holmes. They look down and watch as Fernando comes over to the men and bullies Juan about whether he even knows which end of the hammer to use. Juan defends their work so Fer then questions him to see the blueprints. Juan gets just a bit nervous at this, but Eva shows up on cue with the blueprints and makes a big deal about handing them over. Juan offers them to Nando, but we all know Nando wouldn’t know up from down on a set of blue-prints. ‘Nando gives Juan the evil eye and the two circle and sniff each other’s backsides a bit before ‘Nando finally gives up and walks away.

Gramps offers to take the girls down to meet the brothers over Sarita’s initial objections. Sofia is upstairs in the office meanwhile doing the books and cannot stop thinking about Juan.

Armando comes by the hacienda with a warning for Fernando that he’d better pay up on his gambling debts or they’ll be coming after him and it won’t be pretty. ‘Nando says to tell them there’s a horse show there at the hacienda the next day. Armando will invite them to it and he’ll have the money for them. Armando wonders where it’s coming from but Fer tells him to mind his own beeswax, then reminds him to keep a watch on Rosario’s comings and goings. It’s all fine to have admirers. They can look but they can’t touch. If he finds out that Armando’s been slacking and something gets by him, Armando will be the one to pay.

Upstairs Sofia shows her mother a number of financial irregularities in the books that seem to have occurred since Fernando took things over at the ranch. Gabbi refuses to believe this and accuses Sofia of trying to persuade her mother to give her that divorce. Sofia cannot believe she’s taking Fernando’s side over her own daughter's. She tries to tell her mother that she needs to keep some sort of administrative control, especially over the finances, since her husband has a bad gambling habit and is in debt over his eyeballs. Gabbi won’t even consider she’s had a lapse of judgment where Fernando is concerned and insists that ‘Nando is the greatest thing since sliced pan.

Down in the yard Grampa Augie’s wheelchair careens out of control and into the men. Oscar and Franco grab hold at the same time that Sarita and Jimena do. Jimena and Oscar and Sarita and Franco are immediately smitten with each other. Gramps has a gay old time with introductions then remarks to Juan and the boys that his granddaughters were Bernardo’s most valuable treasure. Borg-like the three brothers look up and over at each other simultaneously thinking the same thing and sharing knowing glances.

Gabbi notices the activity on the lawn and races down to shoo the two girls back inside the house. After the girls have gone, Gabbi threatens the men that if they dare to repeat what’s just gone on they’ll be fired on the spot. A bit later the three brothers discuss their options while Sarita and Jimena gossip together about the younger brothers’ finer physical attributes.
===========

That evening Franco comes to pay Rosario a visit and explains he’s been away because of the death of his sister. Rosario is touched by this confession and hugs him over the loss of his sister. Just then Armando walks in on the two of them in her dressing room and throws Franco out. Franco leaves and Rosario begs for mercy from Armando. She pleads with him not to tell Fernando about this because, as we finally are all impactado to learn, the evil Feo Nando has her child and has threatened to harm him if she does not do everything that he wants. Armando promises not to tell him about it THIS time, but there better never be a next time!

In her bedroom, Sofia brushes her hair and smiles to herself as she thinks back to Juan’s impishly grinning at her. At the same time, Juan is kneading more dough, making heart shaped cookies that magically show us video clips of her glancing over her shoulder at him. He smiles at himself and calls out her name, “Sofia."

La Traición, Thurs, May 1 and Friday, May 2 - Escape from the mine and truths are told

A thousand apologies that my weekend from hell happened right when LT got really, really good. Below is a recap of Thursday's Episode and Friday's episodes.

Summary of Thursday, May 1 Episode-

Hugo and Soledad are trapped in the mine:

S: Alcides, you have changed so much. You’ve been so good to me and my daughter. So much, that sometimes, I don’t understand why I feel as if …
H: as if I were Hugo?
S: Better, not to speak of him, yes? It isn’t important now. The important thing is to get out of here now.

Boris and the miners are digging on the other side of the fall. Boris calls and Soledad answers back, “We are here. Help us, please.” Boris sends Juan for more workers. He says that Hugo and Soledad may be running out of air in there.
“Please, Boris, get us out of here!” calls Soledad. She turns to Hugo all happy, “You see, I told you that we would get out of here. Hold on, you have to hold on.”

Eloisa tells Paquito that the fact that drawing exists does not prove that Hugo de Medina is alive or that he took his twin brother’s place. You should wait to blackmail him with it. Paquito asks why she is defending him. Is she interested in him or what? Eloisa responds, “While it will hurt you to hear it, yes. That man knows knows how to treat women very well and I want to be with him whether he’s Hugo or Alcides.”
”You are crazy,” responds Paquito, “You don’t know what you want.”
“ Oh, yes I do,” says Eloisa. “Hugo de Medina has lots of money and I’m not letting him escape. I’ll defend him regardless of what it costs.”
“Regardless of what it costs?” says Paquito, “are you threatening me?”

“A secret that could destroy your family?” says Rebeca. She urges Ester to tell her. Maybe she can keep Lucas from mortgaging the house. Ester tells Rebeca that Manrique gave her this house. Rebeca is surprised and asks why her dead husband would make such an expensive gift especially since he was so stingy. Ester says that she can’t tell Rebeca why because she is Jereimas' widow. Rebeca encourages Ester to tell her. Ester says that she and Jeremias were lovers.

Outside the mine, Lucas asks Juan if Soledad and Hugo have been located. Juan says yes but they are trapped behind a pile of rocks. He needs all hands to go down and help. Arturo says that if too many people go down there, there won’t be enough oxygen for everyone. Lucas says to Juan that he knows the mine better than anyone. Is there another entrance? Juan says that that there is subterranean river that exits from the mine but it’s very turbulent. Lucas says, of course, that’s how Alcides escaped after the explosion. He asks Juan to take him to the place. Juan says that it is impossible. One would have to swim against the current and hold ones breath for a long time. Lucas doesn’t care. His daughter’s life is at stake. Juan says to forget it. It’s certain death. He says to leave the rescue to the workers.

Lucas sneaks off towards the river while Antonia asks Dr. Max to give Soledad priority medical attention when she and Alcides are rescued because she has a daughter. Dr. Max says that he will apply triage principals and treat the most seriously injured first. Antonia notices that Lucas is gone. Juan goes after him.

Ester asks Rebeca not to think badly of her. Rebeca wasn’t married to Jeremias when this happened. Rebeca says that she knows that Jeremias was very charming and it wasn’t surprising that Ester fell in love with him. Ester tells her that after they were married, Lucas changed a lot. He became a drunk and his family rejected her because she wasn’t of the same class. Rebeca is surprised to hear that a woman so distinguished wasn’t considered well born enough for Lucas. Ester tells her that when Lucas fell in lover with her, she was a simple dressmaker from another town.

Lucas arrives at the river saying that he will save his daughter even if it costs him his life. A whole gang of people have followed him including Antonia who begs him not to do it. Lucas plunges into the river and Juan follows.

Ester says that her family was very humble and she just learned to sew. None of her friends here know this. Rebeca (the former prostitute) says that she won’t tell anyone. Lucas came to her for clothing for his fiancé and it was love at first sight. Ester goes on to tell Rebeca that things changed. Lucas was cut off from his inheritence, they didn’t have any money, he mistreated her and made her life a hell. That’s when Jeremias took them in. Rebeca says that she understands. She just has one question: is Soledad Jeremias’ daughter?

Soledad tries to move some beams but gives up asking, “Why don’t they help us? Why is it taking so long?”
H: Many rocks fell. It will not easy to clear the entrance.
S: I feel like I can’t breathe. I’m tired.
H: Soledad, listen to me. I don’t think they will succeed. It will be better if you go down alone.
S: No, I won’t leave here without you. I already told you that they are going to rescue us. You just need a little patience.
H: Listen to me. You can save yourself. You only need to descend to the river, swim a little bit. (This is the same river that swept Alcides away.) You only have to do it.
S: I’m telling you no. I’m not going anywhere.
Hugo sits up a little straighter.
S: Nothing will happened, Alcides. Just wait; they are coming.
H: Listen to me. Listen. If both of us stay here, we will die. Do it for our daughter. Save yourself.
S: We’re not going to die. We’re going to get out.
H: Save yourself. Save yourself.
S: (calls) Boris! Boris! Get us out of here quickly, the air is running out. (Picky, picky I know in a very dramatic scene but if Soledad could get out via the river, presumably there is a source of air and where is the light coming from?)
Boris: Sra Soledad! Try to stay calm. Jose has gone for help. Soon, we will get you out. (to the diggers) Faster! Faster!
Meanwhile Emilio, Arturo’s man, is trying to make the situation worse by moving a support beam. Guillermo spots him and tells Boris. Boris stops him but Emilio tells everyone that the ceiling will fall and they will all be killed. Boris has to pull a gun to stop the mutiny. He thanks Guillermo for being very brave.

Ester tells Rebeca that Soledad is not Jeremias’ daughter. “Are you sure?” Ester says that she was pregnant with Lucas’ child when she became Jeremias’ lover. She told Jeremias that Soledad was his child. “You think badly of me.” Ester says to Rebeca. “I would have done the same, says Rebeca, “ and look what a nice house you got.” As if she hasn’t said enough, Ester tells Rebeca that before he died, Jeremias came to see her and told her that Soledad’s future was secured by this house. All that belonged to him would be Soledad’s. Rebeca tells Ester that she will do what she can to keep Manrique from letting Lucas mortgage the house. Rebeca leaves and on the way out says that she is sure that Jeremias hid the treasure in this house but she is sure she will find it.

Antonia is sure that Lucas has drowned. Dr. Max tries to reassure her and Elena says that if he did drown, he’ll go straight to heaven because he was a good person.

Lucas and Jose have succeeded in entering the mine. Jose says that it was a miracle they could hold their breath that long. Lucas asks Jose to lead him to where Soledad and Alcides are trapped.

In the mine,
H: (thinks to Soledad) Don’t stop looking at me. I beg you, don’t stop. Your eyes are the only thing keeping me alive.
S: I’m here. I won’t leave you. I’ll always be here.
H: (thinks) Why have so many things happened? Such pain. We could have been so happy.
Tears run down both their faces.

Ester tells herself that she can’t wait for Rebeca to resolve the situation. She decides to go find Lucas. She say, "Even if I have to lie again. I have to clear my name."

Eloisa tells Rebeca about the collapse of the mine. Eloisa is concerned about Alcides. Rebeca is concerned about those who have invested in the mine. They decide to go to the mine and find out what’s happening.

Soledad is mesmerized looking at Hugo. He waves his hand in front of her face.
S: Yes, it’s true. We could have been very happy. (she read his thought, apparently.)
H: Listen to me. Listen, I don’t have much time. I’m going to die, Soledad but you must know the truth.
S: What truth?
H: The truth about me, about who I am. You will probably hate me but you need to know everything, everything. Listen to me Soledad. I am not the Medina that you believe me to be. I lied to you..
S: Enough already. I don’t want you to continue. No, we aren’t going to die. I don’t care what you wanted to say.
At this inopportune time, Juan and Lucas show up. They haul Hugo up. Boris hears them and Juan tells him that they are going to escape by the river. Boris tells the diggers to leave the mine.

Ester disguises herself to go into the Tavern looking for Lucas. Margot tells her that Lucas left when he heard that the mine collapsed. Ester faints. Omar and Margot take her into the Mysterious Lady’s dressing room. They leave her alone there.

Arturo is annoyed when he overhears Guillermo tell Elena that Alcides and Soledad are escaping by the river.

Down by the river, everyone is waiting. A shout goes up, look, there they are. Soledad is holding Hugo who appears to be on the point of death. She has a flashback to when she found Hugo on her wedding day. She says to him:
S: You have to live, my love. This time you aren’t going to die.
She kisses him.
S: Return, return to life with me.
Hugo opens his eyes. Everybody is happy. Soledad holds Hugo’s head right next to her bosom. “Thank heaven you are all right,” she says, “How do you feel?”
“Thankful for you,” he replies. Hugo thanks Juan and Lucas. Lucas says that he did it for his daughter. Boris sends the crowd away. Boris asks Hugo if he thinks he can walk. “Only if you help me,” replies Hugo. Dr. Max wants to examine Hugo but Hugo and Lucas insist that he look at Soledad’s bump on her head. Finally, Boris and Hugo are alone. Boris asks Hugo if he’s sure he is ok. Gasping, Hugo says, “I was on the point of having a catalepsy attack. If it hadn’t been for Soledad, if it hadn’t been for her, it would have happened.” Boris says, “There is no doubt that Soledad is your guardian angel.”
“She is very courageous,” says Hugo, “very courageous.”
“It’s very obvious that she loves you a lot,” says Boris, “she was very frightened.” Hugo smiles and Boris helps him up.

Dr. Max finishes tending Soledad’s bump. Antonia wants to talk to her brother so he leaves her there but encourages her to return to his laboratory as soon as possible. Lucas wants to speak to Soledad. Lucas says that he was surprised by her concern for Alcides. He thought they didn’t have such a close relationship. Soledad responds that she would have reacted the same way for anyone. Lucas doesn’t buy it. He sees in her eyes that she is in love with Alcides. Soledad doesn’t answer but flashes back to her confusion when Alcides/Hugo told her that he can’t tolerate being in enclosed spaces and she knew that Hugo had that problem, not Alcides.

Hugo, more or less recovered and walking on his own, returns to the entrance to the mine. The miners have tied up Emilio, Arturo’s stooge. Hugo asks him, for his own good, to tell him who paid him to sabotage the mine work. Boris tells Hugo that the evil Emilio also tried to sabotage the rescue effort. Emilio says that they can’t hold him. Hugo agrees but says that he will be turned over the police, go to prison and his family won’t like that. He asks Emilo to think about them and tell who paid him. Unfortunately, Arturo is standing right behind Hugo. Emilio says that it is because of his family that he won’t open his mouth. Hugo turns and looks at Arturo.

Soledad tells her father that he can’t imagine how her life has been in the last few months. Lucas asks if Alcides has mistreated her. “On the contrary,” says Soledad, “Alcides has been very good to me and with my daughter, it’s been very special. He even agreed to help me with the hospital work. He’s treated me as if…”
“As if he were Hugo,” finishes Lucas.
“Papa,” she says, “I can’t help it. I look at him. I talk to him and it’s like I was talking to Hugo. I look at him and at the bottom of my heart it’s like Alcides isn’t Alcides, he’s really Hugo.”
“That’s why you were concerned a minute ago,” say Lucas.
“It was terrible having to relive Hugo’s death,” she says, “It’s like he died all over again.” Soledad says that she can’t go on thinking that Alcides is Hugo. She knows that she has to accept Alcides for who he is. She tells him that she doesn’t know what to do.

Arturo tells his men to leave. Hugo tells Arturo that he wants to talk to him. Hugo says that Arturo is responsible for this tragedy. He accuses Arturo of giving money to Emilio to bribe the miners. Arturo asks how Hugo can accuse of something so serious without proof. Hugo replies that Arturo would do anything for greed. Arturo blames the engineer and reiterates that Hugo has no proof of what he is accusing him of. Hugo says that he wants Arturo out of the mine business. Fine, says Arturo, “I’ll be over to your house tomorrow to pick up the money I invested.” Hugo responds that he won’t give Arturo one single penny. He can do what he wants, too. (Didn’t the investors sign any contracts or anything that would address the withdrawal of an investor?)

The confrontation between Hugo and Arturo is witnessed by Guillermo and Elena. Elena thinks Arturo will kill Hugo but she doesn’t want Guillermo to interfere. Guillermo firmly believes that has to help though.

Lucas tells Soledad that being close to Alcides is hurting her. He advises Soledad to stay away from Alcides for a while for her peace of mind. Soledad says she has thought of that but she can’t because of Aurora. She has to find a cure for her catalepsy. Lucas says that she doesn’t know how bad he feels that he doesn’t have the means to scour the world looking for a cure for his granddaughter. Soledad reassures him that Alcides has investigators looking for a cure and Dr. Max is researching it too. She is sure it will happen. She has faith. Lucas suggests again that some time away from Alcides would help Soledad get rid of her feelings for Hugo. She says, “I will never forget him. I won’t ever stop feeling this pain because he isn’t here. But the reality is that he isn’t here.”

Hugo tells Arturo that all business has risk and by his stupidity he has lost his investment in the mine. He advises Arturo not to sue him. Arturo says that he doesn’t need a court to get his money back. He draws his gun and his men do too. He grabs Hugo’s cane and throws it away. (What, did he think Hugo was going to use a cane against a gun? Or maybe he hopes Hugo will fall down.) Boris draws his gun but he is outnumbered. Arturo forces Hugo to make Boris lower his gun. He says that he and Hugo will go to the bank right now and get his money. At this moment, the miners, collected by Guillermo, come out with picks and shovel to defend Hugo. Arturo backs down but says that the matter isn’t over.

Ester wakes up in the ML’s dressing room. For some reason, she is hesitant to leave the tavern without covering herself up and she has conveniently forgotten the scarf around her neck that she used when she came in. So she rummages in the closet and finds a hat that she recognizes as Rebeca’s. She gets out of the tavern and her driver tells her that Soledad and Alcides have escaped safely from the mine. She tells him that she wants to go to Rebeca’s house.

Soledad and Lucas come running up to Hugo and ask about his confrontation with Arturo. Hugo explains what happened. Soledad says that he did right but Arturo won’t take this lying down. Hugo agrees and says that they have to be prepared. The credits roll.

Summary of May 2 episode: Hugo and Soledad's confrontation followed by the filler.

Soledad hugs her baby and talks to Ursula:
U: Thank heaven, everything is all right. A worker from the mine came and told us what had happened.
S: It was horrible. (to the baby) My little one, I was so afraid I would never see you again. (to Ursula). It was terrifying, you can’t imagine.
U: What a relief that you and Alcides are ok.
S: I’ve never in my life felt such panic. Inside the mine, Alcides couldn’t breathe. He was suffocating and I couldn’t do anything to help him.
U: You were upset to see him like that, right?
S: It was worse than that. I was afraid to lose him. Do you realize? I was afraid that he would die and leave me.
U: What you’re saying is that you’re in love with Alcides.
S: No, no, it’s not Alcides. It’s because he reminds me of Hugo all the time.
U: Think about it, then. Give him an opportunity. Let yourself fall in love with Alcides. He has changed a lot. He’s a good man.
S: No, no. I can’t fall in love with Alcides. I won’t allow that to happen. That’s why I’ve made a decision.
U: What are you going to do?
S: While I’m taking a bath, pack our bags. We’re going to my parents’ house.
U: To your parents’ house?
S: I can’t stay in this house another second. I can’t stay feeling what I feel, Ursula. I can’t continue to be confused about my feelings for Hugo (I think she means Alcides here. She knows what she feels for Hugo). I have to leave.

Hugo tells Boris to pass out weapons to the employees and put everyone on alert about a possible attack by Arturo and his men.
B: It appears that your plan of vengeance is not coming out like you wanted.
H: I didn’t imagine that Arturo was capable of being so stupid. He put the lives of many innocent persons at risk by having the miners excavate without taking the proper precautions. (uh, you know Hugo, nobody would be at risk in the mine and Arturo wouldn’t have been driven to these extremes if you hadn’t insisted on launching the PoV.)
B: Including you. You almost lost your life.
H: So did Soledad and Aurora, the daughter of Lupe and Jose and many other innocent people. Arturo de Linares is crazy.
Marina comes in to report that Soledad has ordered a carriage to leave the house.

Ursula says to Soledad,
“You’re not going to talk to Alcides? You’re not going to tell him that you are leaving the house?
S: No. I’ll leave him a note. I can’t talk about this with him.
Hugo comes into her room.
H: You’ll have to. Don’t think about leaving my house without an explanation. Ursula, please leave us alone.
She takes the baby out.
A: Forgive me, Alcides, but I want to stay at my parents’ house, at least for a while.
H: Arturo de Linares has declared war. You shouldn’t leave this house. I can’t permit that my daughter and you be exposed to certain death.
S: Then send somebody you trust to my parents’ house to guard us. I (she starts to say “can’t”) don’t want to stay in this house. I can’t stay with you. I’m sorry.
H: Why? What have I done that is so bad that you dislike my company?
S: Nothing. You’ve behaved very well with me and my daughter. I couldn’t be more grateful to you.
H: Then I don’t understand why you are leaving. Or is there something else? Is there something you are hiding?
S: Understand me, Alcides, I can’t continue at your side.
H: So far you haven’t given me a single logical reason. What have I done that is insufficient to win your love? Because if that is so, tell me. Tell me what it is that I need to do to win your love.
S: No, No, that’s not necessary.
H: Soledad: I know that you love me. Admit it. Today in the mine, I realized it.
S: I was concerned for you the way I would have been about anyone.
H: I know that I have succeeded in conquering your heart. I have no doubts now that you love me. I know it.
S: You’re wrong. I’ve never loved you and I will never love you.
H: Don’t say that and break my heart. Everything I have done is to win your love. Tell me that you don’t love me. Tell me that you don’t love me.
He leans over and kisses her. She responds, then pulls away and slaps him.
S: I can’t love you. I can’t. Because the only person that I will love forever is Hugo, only Hugo.
H: (angrily) Are you mocking me? Repeat what you just said.
S: I wish there were another way but I can’t love you because I never stopped loving Hugo. I always loved him. Alcides, it hurts me a lot to have to tell you this. Believe me. You’ve behaved like a gentleman. You’ve saved my life and the life of my baby but every good thing you do reminds me of Hugo all the time.
H: You want to confuse me.
S: You can’t be more confused than I am. But I can’t continue to betray the memory and the love I have for Hugo. Forgive me, that is why I have to leave. I need time to think.
Hugo grabs Soledad’s arm.
H: You’re not leaving. You’re not leaving because I don’t believe a single word that you said.
S: What else do I have to say to make you believe me? I’ve already explained why I couldn’t attend Hugo’s velorio. (when did she explain that to him?) I almost lost my baby that night. I was very ill.
H: Let’s agree that part is true. I believe you about that. Deny to my face, deny to my face right now that you married Alcides for money, only for money. Deny that we had a deal.
A: You know we didn’t have a deal Alcides. You know perfectly well that we were never lovers.
H: Why did you lie? Why did tell me that after I returned?
S: You had gaps in your memory. I only told you what you wanted to hear. Yes, I lied but you want to know why I did it? I did it out of fear. Because I didn’t know how you would treat my daughter.
H: You married Alcides two days after (he almost says “I”) Hugo died. Two days after!
S: That was the worst moment of my entire life. My father had a heart attack because Manrique was going to take his house. I did it for him. You offered money and my mother pressured me to do it. It was against my will, Alcides. I didn’t have any other option. With the most profound pain that you can imagine, I had to marry you after the death of your brother, Hugo. But Hugo was the first man I loved in my whole life, Alcides, and is the only man I will ever love.
Hugo looks at her, his eyes full of tears.

Arturo is instructing his men on what they are to do: show no mercy and leave no witnesses. Gladis asks him what’s going on and why everyone is armed. Arturo tells her to get back to the kitchen; this is a guy thing (good luck there, Arturo. We know who really wears the pants in your family). Gladis demands to know what he is planning. Arturo says that he is going to kill Alcides and all his family, all of them. Gladis is impactada. She tries to get him to change his mind. Surely, as an intelligent man, he can think of a better way to get his money back than killing everyone? Once they are all dead, how is he going to get his money anyway? Arturo says he will plunder the hacienda. Gladis asks if he wants to spend the rest of his life in jail but Arturo says that he has the authorities under his control. Finally, Gladis plays her trump card – if Arturo goes ahead, she will disinherit him. Arturo say that he doesn’t appreciate threats (you can make threats but you don’t like to be on the receiving end, eh Arturo?). Arturo says that he isn’t a child. Gladis apologizes. She is afraid to lose him. She has already lost Beatriz. It’s been so many months since she heard from her. It’s as if she were dead. Arturo says that he will be fine but Gladis begs him not to go ahead with his massacre plan. He agrees but says to himself that he will find a way to get his money back from Alcides. Nobody makes him a laughing stock.

As if we haven’t had enough of Ester and Rebeca already, now Ester comes to see Rebeca. She says that she found Rebeca’s hat in the ML’s dressing room. She asks if Rebeca is friends with the ML or maybe is the ML and Lucas’ lover? Rebeca feigns outrage that Ester could think such a thing. Rebeca claims the hat was stolen and that she is shocked, shocked at the idea that Ester could think such a thing. (Academy award winning performance there, Rebeca.)

Paquito says that he is going to blackmail Hugo for pretending to be Alcides. Eloisa tells him that he won’t say a word. When he asks how she will prevent him from doing so, she sheds her dress and is ready to use sex to get what she wants. Paquito is tempted but says that he won’t change his mind. Eloisa says why don’t they discuss it while they are making love.

Antonia is working in the Orchid garden. (I guess she’s taking over from Enrico) Lucas comes out. Antonia says that he should be resting after all he did to save his daughter. Lucas says that he is rested and he feels fine. He can’t find Ester but he wants to talk to Antonia. He asks her how it’s going working for Dr. Max. She replies that for the first time in her life, she feels that she has a mission. She likes helping sick people. She says that Dr. Max is very respectful to her. Lucas says that he is happy. Antonia says that he is a good brother and she knows that she can always count on him. Lucas asks her to leave; Dr. Max is waiting for her. Antonia thinks that Lucas seems a little tense but she agrees to leave.

Finally Michelle appears (although I could have waited). She asks Daniel if he has found out anything about Alcides de Medina. How hard could it have been to find out something about someone as notorious as Alcides in San Marino but Daniel hasn’t found out anything. He did find out about Dr. Max though so they agree to go there.

At Dr. Max’s, Antonia is tidying up. She starts to read a book on catalepsy by old Dr. Chirac and says that this is the doctor who was killed. She asks if Dr. Max knew him. Dr. Max says that he was a colleague and has a flashback to when he murdered his colleague. He grabs the book out of her hand and tells her that he has a lot to do and she’s asking too many questions.

Eloisa has tied Paquito to the bed (I don’t want to know how she managed to do that). She is still trying to get Paquito to give up his blackmail plan. Her alternative plan is to marry Hugo and she’ll give him half the fortune. Paquito asks if she has forgotten that since Hugo is pretending to be Alcides, he is married to Soledad. The only way she could get him is to kill Soledad. Eloisa thinks that might not be a bad idea. Paquito tells her to forget it. He doesn’t want her sleeping around with other men. He tolerated her relationship with Arturo, even supported it but now it is different. At this moment, there is a knock on the door. It’s Arturo. (Don’t they have servants to announce guests?).

Lucas is ransacking the house looking for booze. He finds some and has a series of flashbacks to how he learned about Jeremias and Ester. He almost takes a drink but says that he is going to face this problem sober.

Arturo comes into Eloisa’s room to find Paquito advising her on a new hairstyle. (quick change, there). She asks him to leave but Paquito says that after the last time Arturo was there, he’s not leaving Eloisa alone with Arturo. Arturo says that he isn’t there to hurt Eloisa. On the contrary, he wants her help and he’ll reward her. He wants her help to recover the money he invested in the mine.

Antonia ushers Daniel, Michelle and Andres into Dr. Max’s laboratory. She recognizes his family name from the books on catalepsy. Dr. Max comes down and Daniel introduces himself. Dr. Max is impactado and won’t shake hands with him.

Arturo says that he has been sad that she ended their relationship but he’d like to start over. Eloisa asks what she gets out of helping him get his investment back. Arturo offers her 20 percent, a fortune. Behind him, Paquito is suddenly all ears. Eloisa asks why he has come to her. He is capable of getting what he wants himself. Arturo replies that if it were up to him, he would kill Alcides right away but that’s not in his best interest right now. He says that Eloisa has become friends with Alcides and Soledad. She can convince him to return his investment. Arturo ups the offer to 50 percent. Paquito is doing a big YES! behind Arturo’s back but has to quickly pretend to be fooling around with his cane when Arturo turns around. Eloisa agrees. Arturo tells Eloisa that she is very beautiful and he hopes that someday they can reconcile their differences and make up for lost time. He leaves. Eloisa and Paquito laugh at the idea of making up lost time. Eloisa is not initially interested in helping Arturo but Paquito says that if she does what Arturo wants and gives him the money he wants, he won’t try his blackmail scheme on Hugo. She agrees and they head to the bed again.

Lucas is waiting for Ester to return. She wants to know what happened in the mine. He says he will tell her later but right now he wants to discuss something more serious. The deeds to the house are lying on the table. Lucas says that he wants Ester to be honest with him, no matter how painful it is. “What’s this about?” asks Ester, as if she didn’t already know. Lucas says that when they were married she told him that the house was a gift from a rich aunt but evidently that is false. He shows her the deed and says that apparently the house belonged to Jeremias de Montenegro. Angrily, he asks why she lied and what does Jeremias have to do with all this?

Ever the polite host, Mr. Max rudely asks what Daniel et al are doing in his house and how did they find out where he lived? Michelle introduces herself. Dr. Max again asks what they want. Daniel says that Antonia told them that Dr. Max has the studies that his father made on catalepsy. Dr. Max says that Alcides de Medina gave them to him but he never knew old Dr. Chirac personally. Dr. Max asks them again what they want. Antonia and Andres leave. Michelle tells Dr. Max that she suffers from catalepsy and she believes that old Dr. Chirac found the cure. She and Daniel need his father’s studies to see if he did find a cure for catalepsy.

Lucas demands an answer from Ester. She tries a lie. She says that Jeremias wanted to give Lucas the house as a wedding gift but he knew Lucas was too proud to accept it. Lucas isn’t buying. He grabs Ester’s face and says that he can see she is lying. She was Jeremias’ lover. “How dare you!” says Ester. Lucas tells her that he wants the truth. Her behavior in the last few months has convinced him that she betrayed him with his best friend! Ester says that it was a crazy time. She was alone while Lucas was a complete alcoholic. She doesn’t know how but it happened. She asks his forgiveness. Lucas says that he is drowning in doubts. He doesn’t want any more surprises at this point in his life (too bad you’re in a novela then).

Dr. Max gives Daniel the studies written by old Dr. Chirac. He says that he has read them so many times, he has memorized them but he has never seen Michelle’s name. Michelle says that old Dr. Chirac used aliases for his patients and hers was the Lady of the Sword. Dr. Max is about to leave them to take a nap when Antonia comes in with an invitation to a celebration of the arrival of summer in honor of his wife, Soledad, from Alcides de Medina. At the name, Michelle and Daniel look up in surprise.

Lucas castigates Ester for betraying him while pretending to be perfect and criticizing the behavior of everyone else in the city. How horrible it is to recognize who she really is after all these years. Ester tells Lucas that she knows he loves her as much as she loves him and asks that he forget the past and forgive her. Lucas continues to castigate Ester by saying that he went against his family and married a simple dressmaker and helped her become a lady while all the while she was a … Ester tells him to stop but Lucas asks her to be honest for once in her life and tell him if Soledad is his daughter.

Eloisa has asked Marina to her room. Marina says that she doesn’t understand why Eloisa wants to speak to her in private. Eloisa gives Marina a pile of money and puts a necklace on her. Eloisa says that she has the impression that Marina is not satisfied with the cheap things Boris gives her. Marina asks what she wants. Eloisa says that Marina has access to information that she is interested in about her boss, Hugo de Medina.

Paquito tells Rebeca that Alcides is Hugo. Paquito speculates that this has all been a plan of revenge by Hugo against the town. Rebeca realizes that she invested all of Lucas’ money and found other investors for the gold mine for what? For nothing.

At the hotel (which appears to be the same building that Hugo was in during his travels), Daniel says that he doesn’t like Dr. Max. He doesn’t seem to be a good person. Michelle says that Daniel had better start liking him because they don’t have another option. He has a full laboratory and seems to be interested in catalepsy. Andres delivers an invitation to Alcides’ celebration that is being sent to all the guests in the hotel. Daniel says that it is a good opportunity to get to know everyone in the city and they should go. Michelle says of course they will go but first she wants to talk to Alcides de Medina in private.

Monday – the scene in the rain from the credits and Alcides returns.

Guapos Friday 5/2/08 Godfather Part IV Bada bing bada boom. Domingo makes Alex an offer he can't refuse

We open with a reprise of Mili and Al's last shriekfest. They slam the doors on the Hummer and drive off.

Flor rehashes with her sister. She's pissed at Alex, and she's going to get her big Mafia daddy to do something. This is really a misplaced revenge on the ex-husband. She says she took everything her ex dished out without saying anything. No more.

Socorro has let Horacio back into the kitchen for a quick snack. Morgan comes in, and he's very sad about last night's antics. Mili comes in crying. She was so stupid the way she acted. Lina talks about the last night's kissing scene, and Horacio becomes angry that Morgan might be taking advantage of his daughter. They calm him down. Socorro then ejects Horacio for being there too long.

Alex is filling Bobby in on the fiasco of the previous night. Bobby can't believe it, but again, it seems Al still loves Mili. (When he's not feeling those weird stomach pangs for Florencia.) Bobby, for once the voice of reason, says that it all wouldn't have happened if Alex had been honest.

Andrea announces Domingo. Here comes your father-in-law, says Booby.
Domingo comes in, and Alex addresses him as Don Domingo. No, that's not acceptable. It's Senor Echavarria to you. I'll compress these scenes. Domingo asks why Alex made his little girl cry. He asks if Alex is two-timing his daughter with another girl, and Alex says no, he was seeing Mili before he met Flor. And she's just a servant? So you like a servant better than my little girl? This will not do. Don Domingo insists that Alex take Flor out and make it up to her. He tosses a bunch of pesos on the table to pay for it, but Alex turns down the money, but he will go out with Flor. Domingo makes Alex call Flor right in front of him . . . see below. Alex doesn't seem to really get what's going on. He thinks he's just taking Flor out to apologize, and all will be well. Alex will have a horse's head in his bed if he doesn't watch out. It will go with his own horse's ass . . .

Mili talks to her mother's picture. Braulio comes in, and he nearly reveals the truth. He says her mother had a great smile and was a nice person, etc. When Mili asks how he knows that, he has to quickly say he just imagined it. She cries about how she never heard her mother's voice or had her advice or had someone to dry her tears. Why does she have so little when others have so much? (If you had the mother from Fuego, you'd want less . . . ) She leaves, and Braulio continues to look at the picture.

Braulio now goes to talk to Connie. He reveals that he knows about Mili. He wants Connie to tell the truth, but Connie says Mili is not ready. Braulio counters with his guess that it's Connie who's not ready. Connie says he'll kill Braulio if Braulio lets the cat out of the bag.

Meanwhile, Flor had gone over to the house to plot with Luci. A long scene can be quickly summarized as follows: The two unite in their general hatred for the servant class. Flor cannot believe what a naca Mili is--she actually just wants money, and believe it or not, she was recently going to marry Hugo . . . Luci hugs Flor to make their pact. Didn't she do that recently with Andrea? And even once with Mili?

Best line of the night alert: Flor now finds her way to the girls' dorm and barges in on Mili.
Isn't it funny that your name is Milagros, she sneers--sirvientas (servants) are usually named Maria. Oh, yeah? says Mili. And isn't it also funny that serpientas (snakes) usually sound like cascabels (rattlesnakes). Hiss. (This is a pun, since both words sound almost alike the way they pronounce them. I'm reading captions, so I can see that they are spelled differently.)

Flor's cell phone rings, and it's Alex (see scene above). She makes a big show of letting Mili hear her side of the conversation. Alex is going to take her to dinner that night. Mili says she doesn't believe it. She thinks it's a fake call designed to trap her into being jealous. She tells Flor that she and Alex are getting married. Flor tells her not to count on it, because she's going to fight for her man.

Val is now sitting in the yard with Bim and Bo. I can't help noticing that they have an anemic plate of rich model girls' carrots and celery on the table. They don't eat any, though. Morgan is in the background shirtless, washing the car, making a very obvious spectacle of himself. The girls are really attracted to Morgan, and they want to have a fling with him. This makes Val realize that she could have a fling with Morgan without shaming herself in front of her rich friends. They decide to play cards--highest card gets to go with Morgan. Val wins.

Lina comes out, and she is talking to Morgan about the kisses of last night. She says they tasted good. Morgan tells her to tell Val all about it. Lina seems peeved--I think she has a crush on Morgan too. I hope they find someone nice for her soon.

Connie asks Al what the heck he did to Domingo's daughter. For the sake of the business, Al can't go around doing stuff like that. Al says that his personal life has nothing to do with business, and Connie should stay out of it. Al has a lot to learn about life . . . Connie fumes.

We now see Braulio visiting an old house somewhere in Mexico City. He has a flashback to being a little boy playing with his sister, and we understand that this is the house they grew up in. He vows to make up for the past. This scene is a real tearjerker.

Mili is telling Gloria and Soco what just happened with Flor. Was it a real call? She is going to call Alex, but stops herself, saying that Alex said to trust him, and she will. Just then, Alex comes in the kitchen, so Soco drags Gloria out on the pretense of working with plants in the garden. Mili asks Alex if he's angry, and he says no. She gives him a few kisses. She asks what he is doing tonight. He says, Nothing, why? Well, why don't we go out? Er, he just remembered, he has to do some work with Bobby. Okay, she says. She trusts him. She kisses him, and he looks over her shoulder at the camera and seems sad and anxious.

Lina is still talking to Rocky. Bim and Bo push Valeria over to Rocky. She dispatches Lina, rather nastily, I thought. Then she asks Rocky out. To hear music? He suggests Rodeo, but she wants something more romantic. Rocky is about to explode with excitement. Finally, she asks if he wants more time to think it over. He says: I don't have to think. Quiero con usted. (I want with you.) Oops, he corrects himself. Quiero que ir con usted. I want to go with you.

Al calls Bobby and asks if he can do him a favor and cover for him with Mili. Mili wouldn't understand, and he has to go to the dinner tonight. He doesn't want any more trouble with Mili. Bobby is reluctant, but he agrees. He tells Alex that Alex owes him big time.

Rocky asks Alex a favor.

Damien lies in bed lamenting his cruel fate. Connie listens without caring, but he tells Damien he's not going to harm Damien. He only wants to help. Damien feels bad that Hugo is not interested. He looks longingly at a picture of Hugo

Val waits for her date. Gloria, Mili, and Lina hide in the bushes to watch. Morgan shows up in a nice suit, which must be the favor he asked from Al. Val is impressed. Morgan puts her in the front seat instead of the back.

Mili and Gloria go over to Bobby's. I guess Mili wasn't really going to trust Alex. (He's probably going to get angry and say that she doesn't trust him, but he deserves it. He's like the abusive spouse who says "Look what you made me do--you made me hit you.") Alex is not there. They demand that Bobby tell them where Alex is, or they'll beat him up. The girls bop him back and forth like a pinball. Booby cannot withstand the onslaught, and he cracks.

Back at the mansion, Luciana is telling Connie that she told the maid to bring in dinner. Connie is astonished--everyone else is out, why bother with an elaborate dinner? Luci asks why he has to be so cold, as if dinner with his wife has to be a chore. Just then the bell rings, and Connie calls for Braulio. Who should be at the door bearing flowers? Nestor!

Morgan and Val are at a nice restaurant, drinking champagne. They toast to love. Then they begin dancing. Morgan says he loves to repeat these experiences with her, and she laughs, since they have never gone out. He says that they have--in his dreams. The whole thing is a wonderful dream, and they kiss. This scene is played straight and is very sweet.

Alex and Flor are now at another restaurant. He is feeding her a line, er, telling her his life story. Yes, he used to be a big womanizer, but Mili changed him. Oh, really, she wonders? When you met me, you were totally flirting.

Tomorrow: Mili comes in and dumps water on Alex's head and a big plate of what looks like fettuccine alfredo on Flor's head. Val and Morgan go back to Val's room, where she's about to make herself more comfortable, and Morgan is about to explode.
