La Fuerza del Destino #11 Wed 08/17/11 Be Careful What You Ask For

Recap by Urban Anthropologist

Antes

Ivan and his new papa discuss the Mondragon and Curiel financial crises. Since the divorce in the Curiel family the new administrator has been incompetent and they are on the edge of ruin. The Mondragons are not in as bad shape, but don't have the capital to update their operations. This gives Ivan some satisfaction.

Nuevo

Elementary School Classroom: Lucia is happily at work discussing problem students with her boss and how to most effectively help them. They talk about kids who are distracted or hyperactive, and Lucia is organizing the information to help arrive at a solution. Her boss mentions a child whose parents are about to divorce and that she is a friend of Lucia's future suegra. Lucia pauses at this before mentioning splitting the students into two groups and thanking Sra. Gomez for giving her this opportunity to work with kids.

Now will someone tell me why a woman of Lucia's obvious intelligence is wearing chandelier earrings while teaching small kids.

Restaurant: The waiter asks if David and Maripaz want dessert. She declines, saying she's watching her figure. He tells her there is nothing wrong with it. They order coffee and talk about his career, he works on the ranch, mandated by his father but would have preferred graphic arts. She tells him she hated studying, but Lucia loved it. Mari would have preferred to marry and have children, but thinks her age is an issue. He says it couldn't be for lack of suitors; she responds that some were silly and vacuous (Hmmmm). “And you? I haven't heard of you having a girlfriend.” He says he's solitary and not very sociable. She's not buying it, saying he may be solitary but doesn't lack social skills. She tells him that no matter what he's heard she's not crazy. She goes on about how she spends as little time as possible at home because the conversations there are all about saving money, paying the lowest price, etc. He tells her it's the same at his home and seems to notice that the couple at the next table are looking at them. They joke about being perceived as novios.

Casa Curiel: Carlota and Lucrazia talk about Lucia marrying Saul. Lucrazia thinks it will benefit them financially, but Carlota doesn't think that Saul would be a good husband for Lucia. As for David, she doesn't listen to gossip, but thinks that Maripaz would be unhappy. They argue about Ivan again and Lucrazia puts on a fake cheerful face when Maripaz walks through and out. They then briefly talk about Lucia's working hours.

Casa Mondragon: Juan Heil-Me tells Esther and Judith that the bank rejected his loan request. If they want the ranch to function, they have to tighten their belts. No fancy clothes or parties for Judith; it's all foolishness. He then tells her she's an old maid because she's a fool like her mother.

Somewhere out there in TNLand there is a huge psychiatric facility full of adult children of toxic parents.

Casa Curiel: Carlota and Lucrazia argue about the two girls. Carlota asks Lucrazia why she always favored Maripaz. The response is “To compensate for your feelings. To you Lucia was the Sun, but you don't understand Maripaz. What a trauma it was for her to end up pregnant by the [infeliz] servant's son.” Carlota reminds her that Ivan is the only grandchild of her husband. Who had treated her like his own child, even giving her his name. And that girl is no more. I didn't get Lucrazia's outburst.

Casa Mondragon: David informs his parents he has a date with Maripaz, then exits. Saul arrives and joins the family disputes, and Juan Heil-Me lets them know that he doesn't like the rumors about David. “And you know very well what I'm talking about.” Esther says they are all lies. Juan Heil-Me informs them he has made an agreement with Lucrazia that Maripaz and David will marry. Saul points out that Mari is a party girl, only to have Daddy Dearest call him on his own wasteful ways. And lays down the law that his sons will marry the two sisters. His motive is to get their property and sell it to get capital to infuse into his own. That's why the wedding needs to be expedited. So nobody is to tell tales to David about Maripaz. They're to talk her up instead. Esther is doubtful, Saul is rolling his eyes, and Judith says “Well, she's my friend. She's not bad; she just wants to have fun.”

Esther gets up and leaves, Saul says “Well, if David marries they'll stop making fun of me for having a gay brother.” He leaves the room and Judith heads for the phone to call Maripaz.

At this rate they will all be begging in the streets in about 20 episodes.

David's Room: Esther asks him why he's going out with Mari; he asks her why two people eating together is such a big deal. They've known each other for ages.

“But do you know what this means?” asks Mama.
“It doesn't mean anything” says David.
“Does Maripaz please you?”
“What's not to like? She's attractive, congenial...”
“Yes, she's pretty, congenial, “
“Listen, Mom, thanks to Dad's stupendous opinion of me and that he's tossed me to the winds, no woman will pay attention to me. Only men and I'm fed up.”
“But didn't you tell me that you wanted to spend some time in la capital?” [Do people really say that?] “Do you think Papa will let me? He insinuated that I wanted to see shrinks to help me with my problem? Do you think he would now with the situation as it is?”
“Well, he said we have financial problems...”
“Yes, and my irresponsible brother is accountable for that. On another subject, Maripaz is the first girl to pay me any attention and I like that.”
“But they say she drinks and parties...”
“But to like parties is normal, Mother. I like them, too. And the gossip is all from those same people who say things about me.”
“You're right and your father [ayudame, por favor].”
“What idea?”
“That you will marry her.”
David laughs. “We ate out together once; we're not going to again.”

And after a word from our advertisers....

Casa Curiel: Lucrazia and Maripaz discuss David, Lucrazia telling Mari that she's smart enough to know whether she likes a man or not. Mari says David is not an idiot and is attractive enough. Of course they reference his wealth (obviously nobody really discusses finances here) with Lucrazia asking if she's going to talk to him tomorrow. I think Mari said he would have to call her, then Lucrazia says that some men just disappear after the first date. Maris says, “Well, if he doesn't call me tomorrow, I'll call him the day after. Happy 'bout that?” Lucrazia tells her she wants to see her well married to a man of position like this guy and reminds her that Lucia and Saul have been engaged for three months. Mari says that Saul is a [party animal?], which is obviously unimportant to Lucrazia because he's rich. Lucrazia then goes on about how Mari needs to get married quickly so she won't be the old-maid older sister. Mari sighs, indicating she's heard this too many times already.

Carlota asks Lucrazia how this went and she tells her it's SSDD. When Lucia arrives she demands to know when she and Saul will be getting married. Lucia asks what the rush is and Lucrazia gets upfront about “Because we need money; do you want us to starve?” and exits in frustration.

Doña Carlota tells Lucia her mother is hysterical. It's true we have money problems but I don't want you or your sister to sacrifice your happiness over it. Your mother insists she marry David. “David Mondragon?” asks Lucia.

Casa Mondragon: Maripaz and David talk on the phone, the usual stuff after a date, and they talk about seeing each other again.

Casa Curiel: Carlota asks Lucia whether she has anything against David, and she says “No, Granny, I don't think so but I never thought he'd be interested in Maripaz.”
“And you, do you love Saul?” At Luci's expression she says “Are you thinking...”
“Well, he's handsome and he's the sort of husband my mother wants for me.”
“Antes que nada, he had to please you and not your mother. You didn't answer me. Are you in love with him? Don't talk to me like a psychologist. Are you in love with him, yes or no?”

She admits that she doesn't feel the same as she did about Ivan despite having been an adolescent and Ivan being in love with her sister at the time. Carlota says something about the impact of a first love and how that is always a strong memory but that first she needs to forget Ivan. He's been gone a long time and they're not likely to see him again. She's sad about this, too. She then advises that no matter who Lucia marries she has to love him because married life isn't easy and that she will always be there for her. They embrace.

Everybody should have an abuelita like Carlota.

Commercial break.

Some time later at the school.... we see Lucia working with kids who look about 9 or 10 years old. The girls are initially disruptive but eventually look like they will enjoy their art therapy.

L.A.: Ivan and Tony talk about the Curiel household. Tony's information is that there is no child there. Ivan says he can only hope that the baby had been put up for adoption. As for Maripaz and Lucia, Tony says that the older one does nothing while the younger is a child psychologist. At hearing that Lucia is working in a school Ivan says she was always a serious and [able?] girl.

“What did the investigator say about the [Galvan?] family?” “Nothing yet. It's much easier to find out about the lives and deaths of the rich than the poor.” Tony reminds Ivan not to neglect current business for other and Ivan tells him the engineer has everything in order. [Need help with the rest of this] Benito shows up and Ivan tells Tony they have a lunch date. Tony asks why he doesn't offer him a job with the company and Ivan tells him that Benito likes being a gardener. Benito confirms this by talking about how he loves the smell of the flowers and the sunlight. “No wonder you don't want to work in an office” is Tony's reply.

Upscale-looking Restaurant: Ivan and Benito order tequila shots in a restaurant where the waiter is obviously a gringo; they interact with him in English. This place looks like it should have a dress code because the waiter is wearing a tie; Benito is wearing a plaid shirt and no jacket. They talk about food Ivan asks Benito whether he'd prefer a different place and Benito says that while he loves burgers and tacos once a week he likes being treated like Un Gran Señor. The waiter brings their drinks and menus. Benito talks about missing his wife and children; he hasn't been back to Mexico for three years. Ivan talks about going to Mexico on business in a couple of months and after prompting mentioning that he has/had a novia and will look for her. Is he ever in for a shock.

Jardin Mondragon: The wedding reception is taking place. It's outdoors in the daytime. Pretty, but not super-formal: JJ is wearing a light grey suit and tie. Most of the women are not wearing long dresses; Abuelita Carlota is wearing a lovely blue dress. David is wearing a white suit and yellow tie (!!!), Mari's dress is somewhat mermaid style, with lace over the shoulders. We were expecting her to show more cleavage, but I'm sure Lucrazia put the kibosh on that. Saul and Lucia are both wearing blue (whose idea was that?). I don't lipread that well in Spanish, but I think JJ said “Por fin” and “Bien hecho” to David as everyone applauds the bride and groom. Lucia pulls away when Saul tries to kiss her. Hugs all around. Lucrazia actually looks happy because of the dollar signs she's thinking about. JJ whispers something to David that has clearly annoyed him. If anyone can ID this I'd really love to know what it was.

Casa Gerardo: We were spared the ceremony and so was Gerry, who wasn't even invited. Although he loves his daughters he says he doesn't care. He doesn't care for this crowd but would have preferred to have had an invitation he could decline. Carolina commiserates, sure that Lucrazia and not Mari was behind snubbing him. She hurts for him. He tells her not to feel bad; he's more comfortable at home than at the party. Carolina asks if he will be sending a gift and he says no and leaves the table.

Commercial Break

Jardin Mondragon: All the gossips are having a field day talking about David and Maripaz. Sra Gomez wonders about why the wedding was so sudden, speculating that Mari might be embarazada. I think the woman she's talking to thinks it's likely but that David is not the father [?] Lucia tells Judith that she and Saul will want a smaller wedding. Antolin crashes the wedding (Judith isn't exactly pleased to see him) and he and Saul talk about David being gay. Antolin says “I told you your brother wasn't gay” but Saul isn't convinced, saying he's still in the closet. Juan Heil-Me takes the microphone, thanks the guests for coming, and makes some unnecessary comments about wishing this had been a double wedding with Saul and Lucia getting married as well. He makes a cutting remark about Saul being lazy with regard to marrying Lucia; Saul's facial expression says that being Dad's favorite isn't all it's cracked up to be. Whoever thought that David would get married before Saul, but he's OK with that. He wishes the Happy Couple as well as they can be, but goes on about how noviazgos are heaven and marriage purgatory. He announces that the champagne (which certainly cost him enough) will be served as the couple cuts the cake. We notice the absence of food on the tables. A waiter who looks like he's rolling his eyes opens the first bottle, the guests call for a bridal kiss, the couple obliges. As they cut the cake the bride and groom figures fall down as the crowd gasps. Por supuesto we all know this is an ill omen.

What, no noche de bodas?

Casa Curiel: Lucrazia and Maripaz talk about what she's packing for the honeymoon, the house they should be buying later, and what a beautiful wedding it was. Lucia helps with Mari's suitcase while Saul prepares to drive the Happy Couple to the airport. David says something about wishing he were taking Mari to Europe, but Carlota says that honeymoons don't have to be in foreign countries; Mexico has beautiful places. Saul says something about how “Where are they gonna go? It''s a honeymoon; they'll be mostly in the hotel.” The servants all come out to see them off; miscellaneous hugs and good wishes. Mari says to Lucia “I win because I was the first.” Lucia says something like “You don't say” while Saul looks a little annoyed.

Does anyone else think that Saul's facial hair and cowboy fashions look too much like the narcotrafficantes in La Reina del Sur?

Esther looks sadly out the window of David's room, then looks into the small aquarium, asking the little fish (Is this a pennyshark?) whether he's sad, too. She then tells Judith that she will have to redecorate David's room to be more suitable for a married couple, but that JJ has refused to spend any more money. She says she thinks he exaggerates the situation to annoy them all. Editorial comment: Judith needs a major makeover if she's the same age as her new cuñada. That plaid skirt and hairstyle are not suitable for a 29-year-old. They talk about the possibility of D and M having a baby soon. Judith talks about what a wonderful abuelita Esther will be (awwww!). In their dreams, I'm sure.

LA: Ivan arrives at work and they talk about their lost loves, and how much parents do for their children. Then about work, in which we learn that Ivan is being trusted to set up operations in Mexico and to hire employees. “Pero en español!” Tony tells him. I didn't get his remark about how gringos are perceived (I hate when this happens). Ivan finally tells Tony he intends to find his child. They talk about Ivan's search for justice, but Tony reminds him that revenge isn't a good thing. He should get all the ghosts out of his head and find happiness.

Commercial Break

Hotel in San Carlos: David and Maripaz check in (apparently his credit card is still good) and kiss up a storm (well, maybe a breeze) and later sit outside with a view of the beach. He talks about wanting to make her happy and she tells him she wants them to have their own house because it's not going to be pleasant to live with his family. He wants that too but says “In all good time”. She talks about being envied because she got the best partner. She's going to eat her words later.

Casa de Gerardo Lucia plays with Alex while waiting for Gerry and Carolina. She expresses sadness that Maripaz didn't send him an invitation, but he says no importa and the only important thing is that Mari is happy. She tells them it was beautiful and everyone gave their congrats. Gerry is sure that was for David, Carolina says something about him being a good guy and how this marriage will put the rumors to rest. Gerry agrees, saying people gossip for amusement and asks about Lucrazia. Lucia tells him that she was happy. When Gerry says that this marriage is their $alvacion, Lucia tells him that Lucrazia blames him for their financial issues. Her tone implies that she is not on board with that. There is also a reference to the Mondragon financial problems, which will be a big blow to both Lucrazia and Mari. She's also still sad that Gerry wasn't invited, but he's OK with it. He's hoping that they will be really happy after the honeymoon and that Maripaz finds everything she's looking for in David.

I think we need the Jaws theme here.

Honeymoon Suite: Ominous tango music plays as David and Maripaz kiss on the terrace which overlooks a clean but deserted beach. They talk briefly about the rhythm of the sea and how good it all feels; they look like they're dancing in Grinding Mode (see Dirty Dancing for example) and she's in a negligee. Finally she says “What are we waiting for?” and they approach the bed. This suite appears to not have walls around it and it looks like something out of a travel magazine. The white curtains billow in the breeze around the sides of the ginormous bed with fancy white pillow shams and duvet. Bet this set-up looks a lot better than it feels to occupy.

They start undressing and disappear below camera view.

Of course, this ends badly when half an hour later Maripaz is left high and dry.

“You should have told me! You have deceived me! You have deceived me!”
“And what can I do?” He's starting to cry.
“What can you do? Because I'm not a man.”
“I'm not homosexual, I swear. But I have this problem and I thought with you I'd find the answer. My father called me a fag and shouted it to the four winds until half the world heard it. He never believed I could do this. I want to see a psychiatrist to get this problem fixed, get a doctor. I love you (Te quiero). I swear I love you. That's why I thought it would work with you.”
“But you couldn't.”
“But the wedding, so many people, it's nerves. We can try tomorrow.”
“You kissed me, you caressed me, you got me to the brink and left me frustrated for a half hour.”
“Try to understand...”
“The only thing I understand is that your father is right. Know what? I'm leaving.”

She gets up out of the bed, taking the sheets.

Lucia sings duet with my homeboy.

Avances: Mari walks out on David as Ivan returns to Mexico.

Teresa Wed 8/17/11 #118 When Stuff Hits the Fan

REPRISE
Arturo confronts Teresa about sleeping with Mariano the night before their wedding. Teresa says she’s innocent, but Arturo is not buying it.

HOSPITAL
In Mariano’s office, Aida says to him that she knew something happened between he and Teresa to make him so sure that she was not going to marry Arturo. Mariano basically admits that something did indeed happen. However, he’s perplexed at how Arturo found out; did Teresa confess? With this revelation, Aida gets confirmation that Teresa is even worse than she had thought. Mariano, of course, says he now has to go see Teresa.

BARRERA HOUSE
It’s all hitting the fan now. Arturo is screaming in a rabid, uncontrolled rage like we’ve never seen before from him. He asks if Teresa thought she was going to get away with cheating on him for a lifetime and asks if she left Mariano because he couldn’t give her the things that Arturo could. Teresa tries to answer him, but Arturo is MUCHO ANGRY and doesn’t want to hear it. He vents that Teresa made a fool of him. He says, “You swore at the altar that you loved me and you WENT TO BED WITH ANOTHER!!”

Teresa asks him to calm down. She knows it sounds terrible, but she loves him. The proof she offers is that when Mariano came to the church for her, she said it was all over and wanted to marry Arturo.

Arturo angrily says “Oh yeah? You wanted to marry me? Or MY MONEY??!!” Wow, he shoots, he scores!

HOSPITAL
Aida doesn’t want Mariano to leave and is worried Arturo might hurt him. Just then Ramon enters and asks Aida to give them some privacy because he has to talk with Mariano about something very serious. Aida huffs and leaves.

BARRERA HOUSE
Through her tears, Teresa tries to explain that yes, she saw Mariano at home before they were married. Arturo angrily tells her not to deny that she slept with him. He reminds her that her story back then was that she hated Mariano and was tired of him chasing her, and now she’s telling him that she went to go see him.

She explains she went there to tell him that she was going to marry Arturo and to not to come looking for her anymore. Arturo ANGRILY retorts that things apparently went so well that they made love and decided to escape together!! He rhetorically asks why she went through with the wedding. He would have preferred that she had left him standing at the altar, like Paloma. Sure it would have hurt, but nothing compared to what he feels now. Also, he would rather that she had just let Saenz’s wife kill him. (I feel your pain, man. Chicks just don’t deserve us.)

HOSPITAL
Mariano says Arturo was apparently mad about what happened between he and Teresa before she was married. Ramon says, “So it’s true, you were with her one day before his wedding and thought the two of you would escape together.” He says now Arturo knows about the infidelity of his wife; he tried to warn Mariano that something like this could happen.

Mariano says he needs to tell Teresa to deny all of this, but Ruben interrupts and says it’s too late to try to deny it because he already told Arturo that Teresa was the one that wanted Mariano. Mariano is shocked and tells Ramon he should not have said that. But Ramon is a little indignant and says he’s sick of Mariano continuing to have problems with Arturo because of “that girl”, so Ramon gave Arturo one of Teresa’s combs that fell out of her hair when she was at his house [as proof that she was over there catting around].

BARRERA HOUSE
Teresa tells Arturo that she didn’t mean to hurt him; she just doesn’t know what happened that day. It was a bit like what happened with him and Paloma. Arturo says don’t even try that, IT IS NOT THE SAME, “Not only were you with him back then, but then you continued with that bastard!! You were probably laughing at me with him.” (Let her have it, man, let her have it.)

Teresa says she was just confused and to let her explain. Arturo says he doesn’t want to hear anymore of her lies. She says to just think about the good times and there is still a possibility of staying together. Arturo says, “Please, Teresa, you believe that I care?” Arturo says he was stupid for loving her and laments the irony of how he once felt so lucky to have the love of such an intelligent, beautiful young woman like her. It meant everything to him. Again Teresa says she loves him, and to think about how happy they were in Europe. Arturo says what good is that now that he has no money?

Teresa swears she didn’t marry Arturo for his money. Maybe the day before she had doubts because Mariano was the first man in her life and her mom didn’t want her to marry Arturo. She says they both made mistakes – Arturo with Paloma, her with Mariano – but that was the past and now they should love each other like when they were in Europe; and again she says she loves him. But Arturo sternly says he does not believe a word of it.

HOSPITAL
Ramon says he thought Mariano could be happy with Aida and being with Teresa was wrong. Mariano angrily says that HE decides what’s right or not for himself. Ramon asks why Mariano is still in love with Teresa and franky, he’s had enough! Mariano tells Ramon to stop with his meddling. Ramon says that even though Teresa has caused harm, it’s over between her and her husband, so if he loves her, then maybe he and Teresa should be together, although, he thinks Mariano’s love for Teresa is a sickness.

HOSPITAL HALLWAY
Aida sees that Aurora is upset and coaxes her to tell her what’s wrong because they’re such amigas now. Aurora tells her that she’s having problems with Martin; he’s jealous of Mariano. Aida asks why, and Aurora reveals that for some time, she was also in love with Mariano. Aida is impacted and makes a face like she has indigestion. She must have had the spicy taco-surprise for lunch.

Aurora explains that when she returned from France she had still not forgotten Mariano. When Teresa started hanging out with Arturo, she thought she could connect with Mariano, but he only saw her as Teresa’s best friend.

Aida says she can’t believe she never noticed any of this, and Aurora says that’s because she decided to forget it. Aida asks if Aurora truly forgot about Mariano, and then says that Mariano is HERS, and she will fight for him. They both agree that Martin is a good guy and Aurora says she loves him. Martin knows that Aurora no longer has feelings for Mariano, so she doesn’t know why he’s reacting this way.

Just then Ramon and Mariano approach. Ramon, Aurora, and Aida try to convince Mariano not to go to the Barrera house and have a fight with Arturo. They advise he should let things simmer down.

But Mariano just has to go make sure that his damsel in distress, Teresa, is OK, despite everyone telling him not to go.

Just because I'm a nice guy, here is a bonus picture of Mariano for you ladies, because I know how much you all LOOOVVVEE him.

BARRERA HOUSE
Arturo has heard enough! He aggressively grabs Teresa and starts shoving her out the door yelling “OUT OF THIS HOUSE. I DO NOT EVER WANT TO SEE YOU AGAIN. OUT!!!”

Teresa sobs and begs him not to throw her out as she resists. Arturo continues to angrily grab her and push her out the door and screams, “OUT!! WHAT YOU DID IS UNFORGIVEABLE!! AND I’LL TAKE YOU BACK TO YOUR PARENTS IN THE VECINDAD!!!”

That gets Tiburoncita’s attention! Teresa screams, “NO, YOU CAN’T DO THIS!! NO! NO!

Arturo says, “What’s wrong, you don’t like the idea of returning to that humble building??!!” Teresa falls to the ground, clutches Arturo’s leg; and while sobbing, yells, “Arturo PLEASE, I BEG you, DO NOT TAKE ME BACK TO THE VECINDAD, PLEASE Arturo!!” Teresa then says that her mother is sick and if Arturo tells her what happened, she’ll die. Arturo says that her mother warned her, and Mariano also told him that she wanted him. He rhetorically asks, “How could I be so blind and so stupid not to realize!!”

Teresa tries to tell him that they are adults and can resolve their problems civilly. Arturo says he’s starting to see everything clearly. Teresa insists she loves him. Arturo asks, so would you be willing to follow me even if I have no money? Teresa looks into his eyes and says yes. For the first time, I actually believe her, but Arturo does not. She tells him, “Arturo please, I made a mistake, but I want to stay by your side.”

JUANA’S APARTMENT
Goonberto barges into Juana’s apartment. By the way, here is a gratuitous picture of Creepberto since I know Blue Lass just LOOOVVVESS him :^) Juana gives Crudberto a hard time for not being around to support Johnny and Patty. Chumpberto says right back at ya’ Juana, you haven’t been around much either, and he says Oriana has kept him busy. Aurora enters and Dorkberto takes off, ranting under his breath like a doofus. I think he’s heading off to a Mensa meeting; he thinks they’re giving away free flea dips.

Aurora confides in Juana that Martin is upset about Mariano. Juana advises her to go find Martin and straighten things out.

BARRERA HOUSE
Arturo and Teresa are kissing and look to be making up, but Arturo pulls away and angrily tells Teresa that he’s “not going to just let it go; IT’S OVER!!! Take your bag and let's go!!”

Teresa resists but then says she just wants to get her things. Arturo says, “What things, your things? In this house you will not get anything!!” He grabs her and she yells for him to let go. He says, “You'll have the nerve to take everything I gave you then go and enjoy it with Mariano?” Oooo, he shoots and scores again! You go, boy, you’re on a roll! This is sweet. I was cheering him on like he’s getting her back on behalf of all men who have been wronged by scheming chickas!!

She then tells him she just wants to get some documents and scampers up to her teddy-bear room. He relents and sadly sits on the stairs, exhausted, and emotionally drained.

TERESA'S TEDDY-BEAR ROOM
Teresa clutches Arturo-Bear and laments why all this is happening now. Things were going well and she would have seen to it that Fernando would help Arturo get his money back. She swears that she will not let Aida or Oriana see her fail. She can’t and won’t return to the vecindad. She picks up Mariano-Bear and laments at how she cared for Mariano, but he’s not there at the vecindad anymore.

STAIRCASE
Arturo flashes back to what Teresa recently said “I made a mistake, but I want to stay by your side.” Then he flashes to one night in Europe when he gave her a new ring and she said, “This trip, this ring, alas, signify a new stage for me, for us...” This is all too much for him, and he breaks down and cries.

RESTAURANT TORRE de BARQUES
Aida is filling Oriana in on the latest scoop with Mariano. She tells him Mariano didn’t deny anything and confirmed what happened. Aida felt angry and an excruciating (espantoso) pain.

TERESA'S TEDDY-BEAR ROOM
Teresa laments that this was “her home” and Arturo sold it. But now, she can get close to Fernando. She again swears that she cannot return to the vecindad; she cannot let Arturo humiliate her like this.

She eyes Mariano-Bear and tells him that he’s going to help her. She grabs him and starts cutting the seams on his side and pulling out some stuffing. Then she grabs her jewelry and starts stuffing it inside Mariano-Bear.

We see Teresa sewing the seam back together when she gets a call from Juana. She tells Juana that Ramon is plotting against her. Juana can’t believe it, and says if it were Aida, she could believe it, but Ramon? Teresa explains what happened with the comb and says it’s all very complicated and will explain later when she gets there.

HOSPITAL HALLWAY
Magda is walking down the hall with Mariano as they discuss a patient. She tells Mariano that Ramon is still there waiting for him. Ramon and Mariano mutually apologize for their previous discussion. Mariano says that he thought about what Ramon said and he says that even though his love for Teresa may be a sickness, he’s made a decision about it: he’s going to go for Teresa. Ramon says he thinks Mariano’s “love” for Teresa is really just a physical passion, but as Mariano says, he’s an adult, and he knows what he wants.

MARTIN'S RESTAURANT
Aurora finds Martin as his restaurant. She tells him that she loves him and wants to marry him and they’re going to be in France in a couple of months anyway. She says Martin obviously asked Mariano to be the padrino of their wedding because he recognized he is important to her as a friend, physician, and co-woker; that they share and do a lot together.

Martin says that’s the problem. She never spends so much time with him or does many things with him. What happened made Martin wonder if he really accepts the closeness she has with Mariano. He wonders if he subconsciously had the idea to move to France to take away his fear of Aurora’s closeness with Mariano. Martin says he can’t proceed with the wedding until he has removed this doubt.

RESTAURANT TORRE de BARQUES
Fernando and Luisa have joined Oriana at the restaurant (Aida has left). Oriana tells them that they have to support Arturo. They think she’s talking about his economic situation, but Oriana explains that this is about personal matters. She starts telling them about how Teresa is an arribista, but no one would believe her. Luisa and Fernando roll their eyes in a “not this again” manner. Oriana says now that Teresa is feeling better it was time to tell Arturo the truth about Teresa’s and Mariano’s deception.

Oriana tells them that Teresa and Mariano were saving to get married. Teresa’s dad had some debts however, and they ran out of money, and of course, Teresa set her sights on Arturo (who had money). But the day before the wedding, Teresa couldn’t resist and went looking for Mariano. After making love, they agreed to run away together the next day. Oriana sarcastically sneers, “How romantic, right?”

Fernando and Luisa can’t believe it and ask her if she’s absolutely sure. Oriana says of course, and unfortunately she was the one who had to break the news to Arturo. Fernando asks how Oriana discovered all of this. Oriana says it was her new buffoon-mariachi-turned-chauffer that told her. Fernando says this may only just be gossip and he and Luisa think they should leave to see how Arturo is doing. Oriana says, “Go, but I'm sure that with all the information I gave Arturo, Teresa is not going to be able to deny anything.”

BARRERA HOUSE
Teresa walks down the stairs and tells Arturo she’s ready; she’s got her papers and just her old teddy bear; nothing to see here. She says she’s leaving alone; she came to this house alone and she’s going alone.

Arturo apparently has had a change of heart and says he doesn’t want her to go. Teresa swears that she loves him and after some discussion, they agree to continue their relationship, but Arturo has one condition: he told her everything about Paloma, and he wants her to tell him everything [about Mariano] and he doesn’t want any more surprises.

Just then, Juana enters. She was worried when Teresa didn’t show up. Teresa drops her jewelry-stuffed Mariano-Bear and Juana notices something unusual about it when she picks it up and gives Teresa a QTH look. Teresa tells Arturo that she’s going upstairs to talk to her godmother. While she is leaving, Reina the chamber-maid arrives.

Reina tells Arturo that Dr. Sanchez Suarez is there. Arturo tells her not to tell Teresa, and if she comes down and asks for him, tell her that he went to the library.

TERESA'S TEDDY-BEAR ROOM
Teresa begins to give Juana her version of the “facts”. She said earlier she was very anxious but that her fight with Arturo, was just a “minor difference”.

Teresa “confesses” that she saw Mariano the day before her wedding. You know that Mariano, he’s so persistent and just wouldn’t leave her alone, so she kissed him just to see if she still felt anything.

And regarding the comb she left at Mariano’s that Ramon conveniently gave Arturo, she was only there to talk to Mariano about Johnny because that was when Patty was “kidnapped”, and she was separated with Arturo at the time. That’s all, no big whoop.

Teresa says what she did when she kissed Mariano wouldn’t be any different than if Juana kissed Cadberto, just to see if she no longer felt anything.

This makes Juana stutter a little as she says it’s over with Kookberto.

BARRERA HOUSE – OUTSIDE GATES
Arturo spots Mariano pacing and yells out at him. Mariano says, “You looking for me? Here I am” as he unbuttons his coat like he’s getting ready to fight.

Arturo says, “You are a bastard!” as he slugs Mariano in the mouth. Mariano recovers and says he’s not there to fight as he wipes blood from his mouth. He says now that Arturo knows everything, he’s come by for Teresa.

Mariano says it makes no sense now to hide anything. He admits he still loves Teresa and he’s there to take her.

Arturo yells back that Teresa is his woman, his wife, and it is clear she is not going to leave. Mariano begs to differ – he says he’s going to take her now.

Arturo says, “Perhaps Teresa married me when she still loved you, but now she loves me. Wasn’t that clear when she gave her life for me? She just asked me for forgiveness. And she wants another chance, and of course, that I will give. So GO, for Teresa and I are going to stay together and be happy.”

Arturo storms off; Mariano is devastated.

As Arturo goes in the house, Fernando and Luisa follow behind. Arturo tells Luisa he’s fine and everything is good. Luisa leaves to go talk with Teresa.

Fernando says he’s relieved that everything is OK as Arturo closes the doors to the office and tells Fernando that Teresa slept with Mariano one day before marrying him, as he angrily slams a desk. He said she couldn’t deny it and now he realizes that Teresa married him without loving him, and only for his money.

Fernando asks if Arturo is going to get a divorce. Arturo says, “No, Teresa had planned everything; now I’m going to repay her in kind. I’ll make her fall in love with me and she will regret loving me, as I now regret I love her beyond measure.”

Fernando is impacted and wonders what the heck Arturo is planning...

...and now you know what happened in episode 118.

Cuando Me Enamoro #86 Monday 8/15/11 Villains team up, Nata gets a bit closer to truth, Stalker woman makes her next move...

...and AntiHero plays anonymous robin hood/zorro for MR's bad days‏
Recap by Marta Ivett

Antonio goes to see Fina and goes to the point… he knows Fina and Pepa are one and the same.
Tells her that Cantu and the municipal prez of that other town both were killed, and the one who would benefit most from both deaths is her. He can intervene so authorities cannot get to her… there can’t be any negotiating with the law, but you can negotiate with me. Antonio says if I had discovered this a few days ago, you would go to jail and Gina would have recovered her daughter.
Fina: what changed then?
Antonio: Gina and Gonzo’s betrayal. Who would have said? 25 yrs ago you were the lover of Gina’s husband, and now Gina is your husband’s lover…
But I am not your enemy now. Now I want to be your ally. Want revenge over Gina and Gonzo.
Fina: I am very distrusting by nature, how would I know you are telling me the truth?
Tony: What would I gain by lying to you knowing you are a master at lying, cruelty, manipulation, killing, anything to get what you want, you are the best. Lets join forces Fina.
Fina: Alright, you win. You have me in your hands. I prefer to take your offer than to leave Gonzo and Gina the way free.
Antonio: For now lets make them believe they are free… and when the right time comes, we will make our move.
Handshake among villains… but villains who would not trust each other further than they can throw each other … weird.

Renata goes to see Regina… Regina glad she’s there… Nata says here because dad asked me to come.
Gina thankful she came.. will let her make her own conclusions of what happened.
Gina: Jero hid his plans from me. If I had known I would have told you, and not just you, anyone I knew were being deceived.
Nata: Did you know that he was marrying me for revenge and not for love AFTER he spoke with my mom?
Gina: I would not be sure. He never mentioned your mother until now. (reminds Nata when one time she told Nata she was glad that Jero and her cleared things up… she had assumed Jero had been honest with her)
Nata also remembers talking to Jero about that conversation with Gina… Jero saying he would not know what they had to forgive each other for, him saying it was about having been girlfriend of Matias. So Nata concludes Gina is truthful that she did not know. Gina is glad, but Nata says she believes that but she is NOT reconciling with Gina. I believe you but it is hard to make friends. You have a relationship with my dad, and I can respect that, but my mom takes it as a betrayal. It is hard for me to take sides so I would like to stay out of it.
Gina: Nata, Gonzo and I have a relationship, just like you had with Jero. And as Matias was hurt with your relationship, here the one that is hurting is your mother. I am so sorry but she has not played cleanly with us either. Your mom faked a fatal ilness to keep Gonzo with her.
Nata: Right. But I won’t judge you and back you up.
Gina: Don’t condemn me either.
Nata: I am not. I am just trying to stay out of it. And yes, maybe the fact that she is my mother makes me defend her, after all.

Berta and Augie:
Augie wants to know about her pregnancy, why put it on Jero if the baby was Rafa’s? Berta wants to know who told him. IF he wants her to tell, he has to tell her. Of course, it was stupid Sele who told you.
Berta wants Augie to help her make Sele pay for that ‘slip’. Only then will she tell all to Augie. Augie agrees. Quien me la hace me la paga (whoever does to me pays for it)… Augie says ditto, when it is my turn. They toast to the deal.

Ponchito arrives to elated Alfo and Ezeq… They are very thankful to Marina… Jero is admiring Marina with his stare. Carlos does too, so Mati looks at him like she wants to kill him.
Later Jero and Marian are drinking wine at a very beautiful outdoor loft… Marina says Ponchito’s reaction was very common. Jero is admiring how she talked to Ponchito and tries to convince Marina to talk to Alfonsina about the same subject. He offers to convince Alfo to do her pregnancy checkup with Marina and then Marina can talk to her about the other stuff. Marina finds it very nice for him to worry as much about the people who work for him.

Ponchito is trying to convince Ezeq and Alfo that he will not try to run away again if they stay together at the house. After they try to get him to commit not to escape, he is the winner in the dare game. Seemingly Ezeq will let Alfo stay in the house so that Ponchito won’t run away again. (the birds shooting at the shotguns?)

Mati is mad at Carlos, he accuses her of seeing ‘moros con tranchete’ (seeing trouble even where there isn’t any) then accuses her of being jealous… she starts threatening him with punching him if he even looks at another woman… (girl, you better take some valium if you want to have a man with you)…

Lazaro insists in Kari telling him why she insists on staying with Alvaro… Her love has been Lazaro’s always and living with him would be doing it in sin… He insists and Karina finally tells him she had promised her father and that is why she married him. She has to keep her promise to be married to Alvaro until death does them apart. … He asks her why she did not tell him before… so he could live his life… even though she and Alvaro are separated, she will never be able to be with another man as long as Alvaro lives. She walks away leaving a devastated Lazaro.

Chema is visiting Adri.. Connie is there too… they are talking about movies… Chema thanks Adri for accepting him even if she is Hono’s daughter. Chema and Adri are becoming good friends… when Chema and Connie walk out of the room, Adri says that she is trying to get Chema attracted to her so that her dad and Connie can get back together. Outside Connie is surprised that Adri and Chema got along so well. Chema insists that he is getting close to Adri so that Connie will be happy. In comes Hono for a very awkward moment… he is visibly turned off by Connie and Chema being there together…

Hono will stay the night with Adri at hospital. Adri talks to him about being rough with Chema… Hono can’t stand that Chema came to visit her and is trying to be her friend… His tantrum release gets interrupted by Gonzo and Gina bringing Adri chocolates… Gina tells her she and Nata at least smoothed their frictions. They talk about parents pretending the kids to take their sides… Gina understands Nata. Gonzo says in time Nata will take his and Gina’s side… and life will go back to normal.

Nata arrives at Misery Manor to try to talk to her mom. The maid goes to ask Fina and Fina sends message to Nata that she is tired and won’t see her. Nata says ah yeah?? Lets see if she won’t talk to me. And she runs up the stairs…
N: You will listen to me if you want or not, mom…
F: What part of I DON’T WANT TO SEE YOU did you not get?
N: None! I don’t get any of it! And I won’t leave until you have heard me out and answered me! I have no doubts anymore about you talking to Jero and telling him that I was La Bonita!! Why do you always want to screw with my life?? WHY!??
F: I did it for your own good, but Jero is as stubborn as you! And it turned out the remedy was worse than the illness!
N: Are you trying to tell me that you told Jero that I was La Bonita for my own good? You won’t expect me to believe that!
F: There is no doubt that the children hardly know why parents believe the way they do… when you become a mother, you will understand.
N: No, even if I become a mom, I will NEVER understand! For telling THAT to Jero, I have lived the worse moments of my life!
F: Did I lie to Jero?? YES!!! I DID!! But I did it with all the intention!! (con alevosia y ventaja!) You wanted the truth? Well there it is!! But the motive was not to destroy you as you think, but to get you away from Jero! Because I knew that that man would never make you happy!
N: I am sure we would have been (happy) if it were not for your lies!
F: If I told Jero you had been his brother’s girl, it was because I thought that knowing it would have pulled him away from you. But he did the opposite! He was thirsty for vengeance, and that was the motor for your doom.
N: But why did you not tell me??
F: Would you have believed me?? For god’s sake! You were blind, as Berta says! And yes! I did not know that between your sister and Jero there had been intimacy, but at least there was a possibility, right?
N: Know what, I don’t believe you, mother.
F: Well, then analyze it. Yes, look at it from a mother’s viewpoint. (Nata is in disbelieve nodding no) Jero invaded my house and hurt both my daughers! My princesses, my treasures! Knowing that one of the two had a relationship with his brother. For God’s sake, how could I trust him?? … but if you would not listen to me, at least I had to try with him. (she is giving Nata her back so she is making villain faces in hiding from her) We mothers have a special smell sense. (really? I had not noticed) You might think that I behave like this only with you, but the same happened with Berta. I opposed to her relationship with Rafa, and I was not wrong with that either.
N: Rafa was a good man, mother.
F: A young man’s death is very benevolous. But … hey, if Rafa was so good, why did he get assassinated? Surely he had some enemies… not because he were a saint.
N: Even then, you had no right to get me away from Jero. You should have told me. And if I did not believe you then it would have been my mistake, not yours.
F: How sad that you come tell me all that. How sad that you don’t see that all I do is for love. That unconditional and sacrificial love that only a mother feels for her daughterts. (where is that thunder falling on her?? But she can surely play the martyr mother… BARF!!!)
N: Please understand me, mother. In your obsession to control everything, you end up lying as with my dad.
Tell me, what did deceiving us with a fatal tumor do for you? Sooner or later he was going to discover that!
F: I did not lie only for lying.. but for defending what is mine! I was not going to leave the way free for your dad to leave me with that ho___... Because that’s what he wants! To leave me for that ho__!! To be with Regina Soberon!
N: Look, mom! There are things that you cannot avoid! So be it! But things that you do have no justification!
F: You are going to defend your dad and that ho__! You don’t care about the pain they have caused me?? (again turning her back to Nata to fake crying and suffering). Ultimately I did not deserve that betrayal!
N: Its not about taking sides, mom! You have to accept that there are loves that hurt, as you feel for my dad. But trying to hold on to them via lies and deception.. forgive me but I think that is a really bad idea, mom.
F: I am devastated… I have done everything to keep this family together! Even asking you to leave to not let your relationship with Matias break it… but it was useless.
N: Don’t cry anymore, ok mom? Better put to practice what you have always preached. Take responsibility for your own actions.
F: Please don’t be so harsh with me, dear.
N: Mom, I am a lot less harsh than you have been with me.
F: Please dear… please forgive me… forgive me for all the times I have been harsh with you. Please understand it is nothing personal with you (Say what??) I do it with / for the people I love, my big loves.
N: Your way of loving is very strange, mom… (you tell her Nata!!)
F: Could be… but my intentions are good… I do it with Roberta, with Gonzalo… with you… with my big loves.
N: Sometimes intention is not enough, mom.
F: Dear, I swear I have always looked for the bigger good… Not the immediate one, not the unstable one, but the one which will help you find happiness in the long run… (covers her face) I swear it dear… I swear it…
(Nata gives her a tranquilizer pill… Fina begs her understanding… even if they don’t agree, to accept she does everything for love…
N: I don’t know mom. You say it is for love, but I have always felt your rejection.
F: It is protection, dear… I told you… But anyway.. I will have to accept we have different views of life and of expressing love.
N: Yes, we will have to accept that.
F: I feel like the world is falling on me. You in a divorce with Jero, Matias asking Roberta the same, and on top of that, Gonzo is betraying me with that woman.
N: You are not the only one who feels like her world is falling apart. … Can I ask you something please?
F: Whatever you want.
N: Can you look at me? (Fina turns to her) Don’t lie to me… Not for protection or for a better good or anything else. Please, don’t lie to me. I prefer the truth even if it is painful.
F: Alright, dear.
N: Good night, mom.
F: Wait… can I give you a kiss? .. Good or bad, I will always be your mother… the only mother you have in this world… (Nata is shocked frozen… Fina kisses her on cheek… Nata is looking down sad and leaves, Fina cleans up her face in disgust…) Stupid… I realize you don’t believe anything I say.. But it doesn’t matter. With what you just asked me, you have given me the motive for what I need to do in the future. (throws herself on the bed laughing)

At La Bonita, Marina is done giving everyone in the shelter a tetanus shot and it is late, she wants him to get her a taxi to go back to town… he will give her a ride… she is happy to hang on his arm…

Jero and Marina are having a good time together… she asks him to bring her some books from her medical room. He is glad to.

Marina arrives at her uncle’s, he was worried about her… She says Jero brought her home. Priest is a bit taken aback by that… but he doesn’t think about it too much. She says she likes Jero and he is a gentleman.

Hono receives a text from Blanca that she is mad that his daughter made it through.. but when he is in jail, she will go make him a spousal visit.. she will show up with another ‘skin’, sending kisses…

Adri wakes up, Hon tells her she is very important to him, months ago he did not even know about her. She feels the same way. She would like for everything to be well so he would not worry so much… He agrees.
She wishes all this that is happening was a nightmare they can wake from. Hono says lets make believe it is a story with a happy ending… he fakes like he is reading her a story… with the witch (Blanca) but finally the good was victorious and they lived happily ever after…

Connie is having coffee with Matt at her house… HE says Hono is faking not being being worried, but he knows he can end up in jail… Nata arrives. Matt notices she is sad… She tells them she came from talking to Fina.. She cannot trust Fina’s words or even her caresses… Connie says I can’t believe her either. Nata says ‘but she is my mother! Do you get it? She is my mother and I don’t trust her!.’ Nata leaves, Matias and Connie agree that they detest Fina more each day…

At La Bonita Jero is walking outside, thinking how much he loves Nata and misses her. Nata is on her laptop on split screen. Jero thinks he was wrong and lost her. Nata receives the divorce demand on email for her review… Nata thinks… divorcing is the only way to get out this broken heart (mal de amores)…
Hono arrives at the office, Soto and Gonzo tell him that a client is suing for fraud.. Ms Monique de la Rivera. The name does not sound familiar to Hono at all… Turns out it is a scheme from Blanca and her lawyer, apparently. She wants ‘justice’ done as soon as possible. She tells lawyer Hono wanted to use her.. but he will get his due…

Augie and Nata are together…apparently ready to see the lawyer… Nata wrote a letter where she lists her motives to request the marriage annulment by church… she is not sure she is ready, but she has to do it. She thanks him for being her witness in this matter.

Jero is at the bank with the manager, he is aware that MonteRubio has been denied a huge loan.. the manager tells him not only them, but any bank… They have nothing to back up the debt… Jero is willing to put the money through them, but the MRs cannot know that the money comes from him. He wants them to believe the bank decided to lend them a hand… as themselves… She asks him if he is sure… Sure sure…

Previews:
Jero wants Nata to forgive him, even had a billboard with one of their wedding pictures… Nata smiles when some other lady worker shows her. Voiceover: Agustin and Roberta want to split them… A struggle ensues for vengeance and forgiveness!
Nata: I hate stubborn people like you Jero!
Jero: I love strong and gutsy people like you, Nata! (he forces a kiss)

Have to say in that long scene with Fina and Nata, I could see Fina with the two face makeup/makeover… one rude/evil, one faking martyr suffering sacrificial mother… giving nata one side of her and turning face to the other side back and forth… poor Nata…

Teresa Tue 8/16/11 #117 Teresa, meet Karma

WHOOOO --- lots happened tonight, so get comfy.

When we last saw the Barreras, Arturo is making sure Teresa has fully recovered. Cue the seksi music and a shot of the moon.

MORNING AT THE HOSPITAL: Mariano is thanking Aida for her continued help at the clinic, even though they’re no longer seeing each other. She admits it’s been in the hopes of being close to him and getting him to realize he wants her back in his life. He tells her that’s not likely to happen and maybe it’s better if they…….no, no, no…she interrupts him and says either she’ll get tired of trying or he’ll come to see that’s she’s the woman of his dreams. There’s no sense in continuing to talk about it because he knows very well she doesn’t like drama. (Wait, did I switch channels? Is this the same ammonia hurling, breathing tube squeezing Aida? Puhleeeze!) Mariano appreciates this and says he’s learned to live a more relaxed, happy life thanks to her. Huh? Oh, well, maybe he’s just being nice. She manages to ask, in a non-screeching way, about her father’s son. He tells her he’ll be out of the incubator today and then she won’t be able to see him. He asks if she’s sure she doesn’t want to take this opportunity to see him. She doesn’t want to and prefers to leave. She steals a quick kiss from him and turns to leave but quickly changes her mind about seeing her father’s baby.

LA HUERA, EL BIGOTE, Y EL MALDITO: The Mad Trio has convened at Geno’s to discuss Operation Rodriguito. Rubigote will advise Fito when the baby is well enough to kidnap, ahem, to travel. It’s best to take the baby when he’s alone with the mother. Fito will wait for the call and leaves. Geno and Ruben discuss the Central American alibi. She should leave as soon as the kidnapping takes place and then return after some time has passed. Geno’s convinced no one will recognize the baby then since newborns change so quickly. Under her care, “Paulo” will be healthy and strong. She can’t wait to hold him in her arms. Ruben just stares at her and then complains about how long it takes to establish paternity – that would eliminate all these risks. Geno is adamant that she does not want to share custody of his baby even for 2-3 days a week. She wants the baby with her all the time.

NURSERY: Mariano takes Aida in to see Rodrigo. I had to keep rewinding to hear the dialogue cuz I couldn’t stop cooing over this little guy. Poor little tyke was crying his little eyes out! Sooooo cute. Anyway, she can’t believe this little innocent child is her father’s baby. Mariano reminds her Rodrigo’s not to blame for anything. He felt it was important for her to see him because who knows what the future holds. She tells him not to expect her to accept this baby, because she just can’t. They leave as poor lil Rodrigo keeps wailing. Awwwww, little cutey pie.

Back at his office, Mariano apologizes, saying he didn’t mean to make her feel bad. She can’t help it. She sees this baby and knows that he is not to blame for anything. Deep down, she hopes Esperanza and Hernan take him to a land far, far, away where he’ll never have contact with her father, that Ruben doesn’t win his court battle, and that everything is as before, as though this baby didn’t exist. But he does exist, Mariano wisely says. If she can’t come to care for him, she shouldn’t hate him. This can only harm her. She wishes she could do that. Maybe then, she and Mariano could be closer, because not only Teresa separates them -- his friendship with Esperanza separates them as well. She asks him to admit that’s also the reason he doesn’t want to come back to her. Mariano says he can’t force her to like Espe, but he will not end his friendship with her or Hernan because he cares for them both. She thinks it’s time for her to leave.

VECINDAD: Cutberto tells Refugio he can’t believe his good fortune in getting such a good job and salary. Hernan and Espe arrive with the baby. Johnny and Pati arrive also and everyone coos over the baby. They make a big show of having Cutberto put the medalla on Rodriguito.

CASA CACERES: Geno is visiting with Aida, telling her it’s a done deal. They’re going to present (otorgar) her with a bouncing baby boy! Aida congratulates her but says she doesn’t know what she’d do with a baby. Geno agrees but suggest what she needs to do now is to find another partner and stop pining over Mariano. Geno says she must leave now, she just came by to say goodbye and hopes that she can convince Aida to make peace with Daddykins. Aida doesn’t know if she can. They “airkiss” and Geno leaves.

CASA BARRERA: Ruben is visiting with Arturo and talking about Luna Turqueza, hoping the condos will sell now that the scandal is over. As they talk, we see our Sharkita, in heels no less, listening at the door. She’s dressed to kill, or dressed to vamp anyway. She walks in on them and Ruben is surprised to see her looking so well. It’s only been a few weeks! She reminds them she had said she would fully recuperate. She tells Arturo she’s off to visit her parents and is taking the car. He asks if she wants him to take her and she declines, saying she never wants to be dependent on anyone, ever again. They kiss affectionately as Ruben looks on, a bit uncomfortably if you ask me. After she leaves, we get down to the real reason for Ruben’s visit. Arturo has asked him there to convince him to stop fighting for custody of Espe’s baby. Ruben reminds him he’s his baby too. Arturo claims he’s done enough damage. He cheated on her and has already made her suffer enough. He should step aside and concentrate on mending his relationship with his daughter. Ruben admits Aida still refuses to speak with him. He admits he needs to reconcile with her but that doesn’t mean he’ll give up the fight for his son. Arturo warns him that, as Rodrigo’s godfather, he will not allow that baby to suffer needlessly. He asks Ruben to consider if he wants to be a true father to that baby or is he doing this just to harass Experanza?

THAR SHE BLOWS! Odiosa Oriana (man, I hate this woman) visits Aida at home, announcing she’s heard that Teresa is now 100% recovered. Aida wishes she had remained prostrate in some bed somewhere. Oriana tells her she’s wrong. The Big Moment has arrived. She will see Arturo today. Aida can’t believe she’s waited this long. If she had something on Teresa, she would have sprung it on her immediately. Oriana reminds her, “Aida, querida, la venganza es un platillo que se come frío (vengeance is a dish best served cold). One must have patience.” Aida admits that when it comes to Teresa, she has none. Well, says Oriana, the time is ripe – se le va caer el teatrito a Teresa (theatrics/drama is gonna fall on Teresa). Dun-dun-DUN!!!!

VECINDAD: Aurora visits Juana for advice on a dress for her graduation. Juana says her wedding dress is progressing very nicely and asks if she’s sure she doesn’t want to try it on as long as she’s there. No! Aurora quickly declines and admits now that the wedding is near, she’s getting nervous. Juana tells her that’s normal, but Aurora doesn’t seem convinced. They talk swatches, etc. and Juana fawns over her, shyly saying she feels like her mother. She again asks her to try on the wedding gown. This time, Aurora reluctantly gives in.

CASA CHAVEZ: Unusual sighting of the Sharkita hugging her mom. Refugio is happy to see her so well. Juana comes out with the baby Rodrigo and Teresa gets to hold and coo over her godson, promising to watch over him forever.

CASA BARRERA (AKA THE TEMPLE OF DOOM): Oriana has come to call on Arturo. She makes it clear she hasn’t come to talk about Fer/Luisa’s wedding. She’s come to talk about Teresa! Bwa-ha-ha!

MEANWHILE, our Sharkita is visiting Fernando showing off her new and improved legs. He tells her she’s as good as ever, no, even better than before. In the hospital, she wasn’t even able to move her arms but now she can give a him big hug, which she does. Cue the Jaws Music! She grins knowingly but oblivious to what’s happening at home.

The suspense builds as we find that Oriana and Arturo are now seated. She’s happy Teresa has recovered. Arturo isn’t fooled. He knows she doesn’t care for Teresa and frankly, doesn’t understand her attitude. Oriana doesn’t hesitate to admit she doesn’t like Teresa and she was justified in what she’s said. Teresa is an arribista (gold digger) who married him only for his money. Arturo gets angry. He stands as he tells her to leave if she’s going to continue in this manner. She tells him she’s saying this for his own good and because she loves him. If he doesn’t believe her, that’s his right, but he should at least hear her out. NO! He believes in Teresa and she loves him. Oriana repeats she’s telling him for his own good and she has no doubt that now that he’s broke, Teresa will leave him. Arturo shouts that Teresa would never do something like that. Oriana shouts back, “That’s precisely what she did to Mariano! She left him for you because he had no money and she hooked up with you for selfish reasons.” Arturo continues to refuse to listen to her, telling her this is all a lie. Then Oriana lowers the boom, shouting at him: “TERESA SLEPT WITH MARIANO THE NIGHT BEFORE YOUR WEDDING!!! That’s not all; Teresa and Mariano were going to escape together the day of the wedding!” Pause for dramatic effect. The world seemingly stands still for our hero as he takes this all in. “No puede ser” is all he can manage to say. She asks him to consider why Mariano would show up to interrupt the wedding. With dramatic operatic singing in the background, Arturo flashes back to Teresa’s overpacked bags and Mariano running down the aisle to interrupt the ceremony, shouting that he’s the only man she loves. Oriana brings him back, telling him to think it through. No one would dare to make such a claim frivously. Mariano truly felt he had the right to seek out Teresa because she had agreed to run away with him. Arturo is in full denial saying that can’t be possible and Oriana assures him it is, it is! ¡Guau!

BACK AT FERNANDO’S, Teresa still has Fernando in her grasp. She tells him that as soon as she recovered, she wanted to see him and only him. She’s so grateful. She lingers then pulls away, saying Luisa said she’d be there. Does he mind if she waits? No prob, he says, and offers her a drink. Sure, why not she says. They may as well toast to her return. She can do anything, even dance. “Anything?” he asks as he twirls her and moves in and I think – a kiss!? – but I’m wrong. They continue to twirl and spin as we hear Oriana’s voice saying “When one falls in love and idealises (idealzar) another person, emotions override reason.” We now see Oriana as she tells Arturo she’s there to open his eyes. Arturo demands to know who told her such a lie? She tells him what matters is that the truth has finally come out. He’s pacing now, and shouting – she is making a very serious accusation! She assures him she wouldn’t do so without grounds (fundamiento). He tells her he knows that she hates Teresa but doesn’t know why. She tells him she detests her for being an arribista and a liar! She knew it the minute she met her. If he must know how she found out, she heard it straight from the Sharkita’s mouth when she was talking to someone while she was in the hospital. Arturo grabs her by the shoulders and demands to know if this “someone” was Mariano. She asks him to calm down. With pure hatred in his eyes, he wants to know why she didn’t tell him as soon as she found out. She explains he was in no condition to hear this at the time. He finally lets her go as she explains Teresa was still paralyzed at the time and he wouldn’t have been able to confront her then. Our poor hero is beside himself, panting, his hair mussed up, and in tears.

BACK AT FERNANDO’S AGAIN – Fer and Teresa are sharing a glass of wine and he’s toasting to her complete recovery. Teresa tells him they’ve heard that the woman who shot her apparently escaped to Brazil. Fernando is adamant that she must pay for her crime. Teresa says she once felt the same way. But now, she views life in different way. She feels reborn. She realized there are many times when one may have desires and resist doing them out of fear. They lean toward each other over the bar. Fernando agrees, saying it may be something one desires….or something prohibited. She tells him when one is immobilized like she was, one regrets not having done everything you desired…..everything. Fernando clenches his teeth. (I think his pants have just caught on fire!)

At Arturo’s office, Oriana’s says Teresa is not the little white dove (blanca palomita) he thought her to be. But if he doesn’t believe her, he should ask Teresa. Tell her he knows the whole truth. Arturo disagrees, he’s going to do is confront that infeliz Mariano and force him to tell him to his face. This isn’t what she planned and she runs after him, urging him to calm down. He shrugs her off and tells her he’s gotta do he’s gotta do as the injured party! He rushes out and she’s stunned as if thinking, “Crap! What did I do?”

BACK AT FERNANDO’S AGAIN – Fernando gulps, then asks what is it that she desires? She flirts and tells him not to ask her that! She thinks they are very much alike. She realizes she’s very fortunate. Arturo was so attentive and Fernando helped him as always, maybe more than usual. She wanted to show her appreciation and since she’s done that, she’s off. They were within kissing distance (her trademark) when she pulled back to leave. No, no, no, he says and even knocks over a glass as he rushes to her asking her not to leave. Wasn’t she going to wait for Luisa? Yeah, but look at the time! She has an appt with Hector and needs to rush off. He sees her to the door, all hot and bothered. After she leaves, he’s so hot, he even has to loosen his tie! Man, this guy is toast, burnt toast.

HOSPITAL: Mariano, Magda, and Dario discuss one of Mariano’s cases, Betito, who’s parents have opted for no operation in order to make his final days more comfortable. Magda notes he’s had similar cases in the past and hasn’t been as anguished as this. She knows there’s something else amiss. Dario wants to know what’s got him con un humor de perros (with a dog’s temperament). He admits that finding out that Aurora will be leaving has hit him harder than he thought it would. Magda wonders if he’s going to miss her as a friend, or is he feeling something stronger? He tells her Aurora’s his friend. Dario understands, but also says she’s the girl he was going to go after before Martin beat him to the punch. Mariano warns him not to repeat a word of that. Now she’s getting married and he’s going to be a padrino in the wedding. Dario apologizes, saying he now realizes Mariano only sees Aurora as a friend and nothing more.

TERESA has arrived for her appt with Hector and runs into Mariano. He’s shocked to see her so well recovered as though nothing had happened. That’s precisely what she wants, to forget it all as though it had been a bad dream. She remembers he saved her from death’s door. She was sorry to see he wasn’t around during her recovery. He admits he stayed informed on her progress but she knows very well he couldn’t come near her because of her husband. She heard he broke up with Aida and supposes it was because of her. She’s convinced he hasn’t been able to forget her. He admits it but at this point in his life, his feelings for her aren’t enough. He’s realized that for a relationship to take, love isn’t enough without the right circumstances. That wasn’t the case for them. He’s realized Arturo is a good man and that she’s fallen in love with him. Hopefully, she truly values the man at her side. Teresa ponders this…..hmmmmm.

CASA CACERES: Oriana is back and Aeeeeeeeeeda is begging her to tell her what’s going on! Well, she dropped the bomb and truthfully, it hurt her to reveal the truth (desengañar) to Arturo. He took it really hard. Aeeeeeeeeda is dying to know! What? What? What did you tell him? Oriana wonders if Aida really wants to know, even if Mariano is involved. Aida admits it hurts to know he’s involved but she’s not surprised. She wants to know. Oriana gleefully agrees to spill it.

BACK AT THE HOSPITAL: Teresa notes he never thought of Arturo before. Mariano explains that was then, this is now. And now he prefers to do the right thing. Teresa says from experience, that strategy never works when it comes to your feelings. It’s true she loves (querer) Arturo but she’s never stopped loving (amar) him, Mariano. He advises her to be stronger so that one day she’ll stop thinking of him just as he hopes one day to stop thinking of her. She thinks that’s impossible. What they have between them is very strong. Not as strong as what separates them, says Mariano. She’s married and loves her husband and was even prepared to sacrifice her life for him. Above all, he no longer believes her and her promises. She’s had a lot of luck in her life. She disagrees. What she’s gained in life has been through her hard work and determination. He agrees but as for her health, she recovered very quickly and that was a miracle. She also has a good man by her side. As for what they had between them, they both need to leave it in the past. She tearfully asks if that’s what he really wants. He tells her what they had is no longer possible and he’ll never fall for her game again, nor will he ever be with her again. She thinks things can still change. He accuses her of saying this only because Arturo no longer has money. (Whoa, score a big gooooooooooooooaaaaaaaal for Mariano! He finally grew a pair!) He advises her not to do Arturo like she did him! Then he gallantly walks away, leaving Teresa stunned (and Viewerville with their jaws dropping to the floor).

CASA CACERES: Oriana has filled in Aida and they are discussing it. Aida comments how Teresa played the victim card and was so “offended” that Mariano had interrupted the ceremony. Oriana feels that what is important now is that Arturo knows the truth. It pained her to tell him but he is her son’s best friend and she had to tell him. Aida’s been telling him about Teresa’s hypocrisy since she was his student. It remains to be seen if he now realizes that. Oriana’s worried about what Arturo might do. He was furious and went looking for Mariano.

CUE THE HOSPITAL: Arturo’s on the hunt for Mariano. He runs into Aurora who tells him she knows he was headed for the vecindad to lunch with his dad. When asked what the urgency is, Arturo ominously replies he’s got a score to settle with him!

ELSEWHERE AT THE HOSPITAL, Teresa is visiting with Hector. She’s given him a pair of cufflinks as a token of appreciation. He’s happy with her progress and tells her she is now officially discharged (de alta). He’s never seen anyone so dedicated to their therapy. He wasn’t alone in helping her. Mariano did his bit and she had the support of her husband who loves her very much. She agrees he loves her as much as she loves him. Hector now gives her some fatherly advice. He highly esteems Mariano and for his good and the good of her marriage, he suggests she distance herself from Mariano. She understands completely and she assures him there will be no further confrontations between Mariano and Arturo. Ah, well, don’t look now but……..

VECINDAD: Arturo all but busts in the door at Ramon’s apartment demanding to see Mariano. He shoves Ramon aside to look in the bedroom. Ramon loudly objects to this intrusion. Arturo tells him not to talk about that after what his son did, he’s a desgraciado! ¡Basta! Says Ramon, he has no right to insult his son. Arturo tells him what he wants is to KILL HIM!!! Then he grabs Ramon by the collar demanding that he tell him if he was aware that Mariano was sleeping with his wife. Ramon shouts back that Mariano wasn’t the only one to blame. Teresa was the one who came looking for him, provoking him until she got what she wanted! Guau! Arturo is hearing it from all sides today!

HOSPITAL: Aurora is frantically trying to contact Mariano, leaving him a voicemail about Arturo. Magda walks in and informs her Mariano is in the OR (quirófano). Betito’s parents decided to authorize the operation after all. Martin walks in and Aurora tries not to continue the conversation about Mariano but Magda insists. Aurora explains Arturo is furious and is looking for Mariano to settle a score. Martin sarcastically asks, “Now what’s wrong with Teresa?” Aurora explains and is worried about what might happen when Arturo finds Mariano.

VECINDAD: Ramon assures Arturo that Mariano tried to distance himself from Teresa. “Then why is he always looking for her?” asks Arturo. He’s wrong, Ramon answers. It’s Teresa who would always go looking for him at the hospital or here at the vecindad. In fact, he can prove it to him so long as he promises not to harm his son. Ramon wonders if he recognizes this? He shoves the hair comb in his face. Arturo flashes back to the day she claimed to have lost it. Ramon tells him he warned Teresa that the next time she came looking for Mariano, he would give this to her husband. Oh my, Arturo is in disbelief.

BACK AT THE HOSPITAL: Teresa gets a call from Arturo and she excitedly tells him Hector has discharged her. Her tone suddenly changes and then she agrees to meet him, she’s on her way. Uh, oh.

ROOTS ‘N BOOTS: She’s taking a walk around the hotel where she’s staying so everyone will think she’s been in Guatemala to pick up her newborn. Ruben shares his woes about going to the office to pick up his things and everyone gave him dirty looks. He brought home a lot of documents but if they should review the remaining documents.....the thing is, there are some falsifications and missing documents. She tries to soften this by saying some items may not have been entirely true. “Not entirely true?” he says, “they were downright lies!” If this is all discovered, he’ll have new legal problems and so will she! Roots is impactada.

NIGHT FALLS ON LA VECINDAD: Refugio is helping Cutberto with his dress shirts. She notices he’s been gone a lot with his new job. Cutberto bemoans the fact that he used to have a reason to stick around for his Juanita but since she’s not “his Juanita” anymore, well, ‘nuf said. He tells her about his job and how much this rich old broad is paying him for doing almost nothing.

HOSPITAL: Aurora and Martin have returned from dinner and they discuss the possible run-in between Arturo and Mariano. Martin is sure it’s because of Teresa. It’s obvious to him that Mariano hasn’t stopped loving her. Aurora naively hopes that’s not the reason Arturo was so upset (alterado). Puhleeze, says Martin, she continues to think of Mariano as a saint while he believes Mariano has most likely started up with Teresa again now that he broke up with Aida. Aurora refuses to believe that, saying Mariano’s attempted to distance himself from Teresa. Martin reminds her of Hector having to bar Mariano from Teresa’s hospital room. Mariano loves Teresa and continues loving her and that’s why that imbécil never had eyes for Aurora. She’s impactada by this observation.

CASA BARRERA AKA HOUSE OF HORRORS: Arturo is in the dark with a drink in his hand (gasp!). He has flashbacks of Teresa lies: when she told him her mother insisted on her relationship with Mariano; on their wedding day when she told him Mariano is crazy and refuses to leave her alone; the day he overheard Teresa and Aurora talking in Cuernavaca when she admitted she had slept with Mariano in the past. He’s holding the hair comb and thinks of what Ramon said. Teresa arrives. She turns on the lights and finds Arturo sitting in the open doorway of his office. She asks what’s wrong, are there more money problems? He scoffs, “el dinero. Claro, dinero.” He tells her he has a profound pain in his heart. She asks if he needs to be taken to the doctor. Arturo replies, “No, this doesn’t require the hospital. What I have will be gone when I’ve stopped loving you.” Teresa wonders why he’d say that. He stands and grabs her by the shoulders and tells her he knows everything!

HOSPITAL: Aurora wonders why he would bring that up now, Mariano has nothing to do with anything. Martin feels maybe she should be asking herself the same question. He turns to leave and bumps into Mariano as she’s pleading with him to stay and talk. Aurora tells him they’ve argued but doesn’t elaborate. She also tells him Arturo’s been looking for him to settle a score. Mariano’s perplexed but Aurora can’t stay and chat. She runs after Martin. She doesn’t understand why he’s like this. He knows she no longer cares for Mariano. She knows Mariano will never have feelings for her and she told him she would forget all about Mariano. Martin only has to see how upset she becomes whenever something happens to Mariano. She tells him they’re friends and as such she worries about him. He himself has grown to appreciate Mariano. He feels she should allow Mariano, Teresa, and Arturo fix their own problems. He thinks she should be happy and excited about their wedding and not worried about what happens to Mariano. She begins to cry and tells him he’s being unfair. He would have reason to be upset if she had refused to have dinner with him to wait for Mariano or if she had stayed with him just now instead of coming after him (Martin). She’s never been unfaithful to him and has always given him his rightful place as her fiancé. Martin disagrees, he’s not so sure about that. He leaves and she’s in tears.

BATTLE OF THE BARRERAS: Teresa demands to know what lies have been invented about her and by whom. He wonders how many people know about her relationship with Mariano. Teresa says, “That’s all in the past. Besides, we agreed that you would trust me and wouldn’t accuse me without proof (pruebas).” Arturo is towering over her now, saying “¿¡Pruebas!? You want proof? Do you recognize this hair comb? It’s the one I gave you in Cancun that you said you lost. You lost it all right – in the house of that infeliz, Mariano!”

SPEAKING OF THE “INFELIZ”, Aida has gone to Mariano to tell him Arturo is now aware he slept with Teresa before the wedding! Mariano is bug-eyed impactado.

BACK TO THE BARRERAS:
Teresa has to think fast. She admits she lost the hair comb (peineta) there and that Ramon found it. But he misinterpreted her visit. She only went there to look for her father and besides that, it’s when they were separated because of the Paloma affair. She escapes from him and the argument is carried to the foyer. He recalls what she put him through after his night with Paloma, accusing him of being unfaithful, that he betrayed her, when all this time she’s been the one who has been deceiving (burlar) him all along! “NO!” she cries out. That’s not how it happened. They can go talk directly to Ramon if he insists but he can’t accuse her of something for which she’s innocent! “Stop lying!” he screams at her as he grabs her by the shoulders, shaking her. He knows she slept with Mariano the day before their wedding and that she planned to run away with him! Arturo and Teresa are in mortal combat now. Their eyes are locked on each other. We’ll have to wait to see what happens tomorrow. Same shark time, same shark channel!

The drama ain’t over, folks. Previews for tomorrow show Arturo attempting to physically throw our Sharkita out on her fin and dufus Mariano has apparently come for her when Arturo punches him!

La Fuerza del Destino #10 Tue 08/16/11 The Matchmaker from Hell

Good evening fellow citizens of Viewerville! Sara here, subbing for recapper extraordinaire: Gloria. I have a more *ahem* drive-by style. All details will return tomorrow. :-)

Refrito
Wheeere's the baby?

Tonight

  • Carlota wakes the dead rest of the house with her cries. The baby has disappeared! Where oh where can he be? LuCrayCray thinks Encarnación (was that her name?) must have come back and gotten him. Carly is beside herself and wants to call the cops but MamaCrayCray says no, folks may discover the baby belonged to Maripaz. They'll just wait until the morning and see if Encanación comes back. If she doesn't come back, we'll know she took her. Maripaz finally (!) comes in and asks what's going on. Lucia says someone took the baby! Maripaz is "huh?"
  • Benito is happy for Ivan's good fortune with Old Man Tony Maguire. Ivan is not going to forget what Benito did for him. Pretty sure he said something about getting him a good job when he "makes it big."
  • The next morning in Guaymas, LuCrayCray has gotten up early to catch Encarnación. She pays her off and says her services aren't needed they are leaving. Encar wants to say goodbye to Carly but LCC shoos her off.
  • Carly can't understand why Encar would take the baby and still wants to call the police. LCC is adamant they not do that. It would really just be a waste of time. The police would find Encar, jail her, take the baby away and return it back to them and they are stuck with the baby. Maripaz agrees and thinks Carly should just let it drop. LCC lets them know that they will tell Gerry the baby got adopted and that's that. Maripaz agrees Carly says she knew LCC was hard, despotic and cruel, but had no idea she was such a monster (OK, I like Carly, but she must be blind.)  LCC says she's going to protect her family. Carly says Teo must be turning over in his grave. Maripaz totally agrees with Mama. Can you imagine if she had called the police? Everything would have come out in the open? LCC reminds them they are to tell Gerry the baby was a adopted. She swears her daughters to secrecy. Crazy Be-yotch is crazy.
  • Obviously the fam has returned to Alamos. Lucia is asking Cleto about Pipo; confirming friends have taken him. Cleto tells Lucia about the death of Ali and Ivan's escape to the "extranjero."
  • LuCrayCray is screeching to Gentle Gerry on the phone. He asks about Maripaz, the baby. She's tired of Gerry calling they are divorced. He has a right to see the girls. Lucia comes in and asks about Alicia. LuCrayCray does what she does best: yells. "Don't mention her or Ivan again!" and hands the phone over so Lucia can talk to dad. Lucia is taken aback.
  • Maripaz is in her room worrying about her weight. Lucia tells her about Ali's death and Maripaz is like "who?" (wow. cold.) Lucia has to remind her "Ivan's mom". Lucia tells Maripaz that Mom really flipped when she mentioned Ali and Ivan. Maripaz doesn't want to hear about them either.
  • Carly and Lucia are talking. Lucia is asking about Ali. Carly tells her she died of an illness. Lucia wants to know if Carly thinks Ivan will come back. Carly tells her she doesn't know. It is a sad time and they need to foget (olvidar.)
  • At the same time in LA, Ivan is hearing the same. He can't believe what Old Man McGuire is telling him. There is a quick recap of all the grievous sins committed against Ivan by the Curiel Crazies. His left was left a shambles. OMM says the same pretty much happened to him. So lucky we met each other! OMM trusts Ivan, but he's not yet secure with him. OMM asks who Ivan's dad was. Ivan asks if OMM knows something. OMM is "just curious." They seal the deal with whisky. If Old Man McGuire's son had lived he'd be Ivan's age.
Años (and new hairdos) después

  • Grown up Lucia has returned from the market. Cleto's hair is grayer and the fridge is on the fritz.
  • Carly does not like Juan Slimy, but she thinks LCC should ask him about recommending a new administrator for the ranch. Leandro is inept and she suspects he's robbing them.
  • Lucia enters and says she has good news. LuCrayCray doesn't want to hear it if it's about Gerry. Apparently he's returned to Alamos and working at his little business. Carly and LCC exchange words concerning Gerry. Gerry has to support his family. LuCrayCray criticizes Gerry's new family: a blind sister-in-law. Lucia interrupts to tell them she got a job in a private school. Carly is please. LuCrayCray not so much. Now everyone will know they are so hard up the girls have to work. I'm thinking child psychology (Lucia's degree) is a bit more respectable than say...being a prostitute. LuCrayCray would prefer that Lucia and Saul to set a wedding date (ewww, she's with him?) Lucia is a bit disgusted and leaves. Carly thinks LuLu should be trying to find a husband for Maripaz. LuLu says Maripaz has turned out to be a real headache and it's all Ivan's fault. Carly defends him. Lulu says you always defend him and Carly says no I don't always defend him, only when you talk about him.
  • Maripaz is clubbing. Saul and Antolin are buds. They compare Maripaz and Lucia. I didn't catch it all, but I'm pretty sure it's along the lines of some girls you marry, some you...well, you know.
  • Later that evening Maripaz returns home and bawls loudly enough for Lucia to hear. Lucia comes to her room and lectures about her drinking. Maripaz doesn't want to hear her sermons. Lucia wonders why she does it. Maripaz blames Ivan. Lucia tells her she needs to get over it. Maripaz says he was so handsome and no one made love like he did. (That creepy old guy knew a hit when he saw it!)
  • At McGuire Corp they are speaking English until it's just Old Man McGuire and Ivan. OMM has good news and bad news. Good news: the adoption papers have gone through-Ivan is now his adopted son (at the age of 30 mas o menos! Beanie time!) The bad news: Max has the Alonso virus cancer and he will have to be put down. (I wish they had put the other Max down.)
  • Maripaz is stomping around the plaza. Her car is kaput. Luckily a nice young man knows a bit about cars and may be able to help.
  • Old Man McGuire and Ivan miss Max. OMM wants to take a trip. Maybe the two of them could go together. Ivan says he'd love to, but right now he's got some bidnez. OMM tells him some things are more important. Doesn't Ivan think about his son? Sure he does! Is he alive, dead? Did Maripaz abort him or no? And his friends. Camilo never answered his letters. Ivan starts to talk about confronting Juan Slimy and OMM says he wasn't talking about revenge. Iván's thinking it, though. OMM wants Ivan to return to Mexico.
  • Turns out the young man that helped Maripaz was none other than David Mondragon. LuCrayCray is beside herself with joy. Carly and Lulu thank David for bringing her home and helping out with the car. They try to get him to stay and visit, but he has to go. Carly and Lulu try to talk him up but Maripaz isn't buying it. Carly thinks it would be a good time for Lulu to call about the recommendation for a new ranch administrator.
  • Ok, I need some folks to fill in the blanks. Ivan says he can't return because LuCrayCray threatened to have him arrested for killing one of her workers. I'm pretty sure that OMM tells Ivan that he checked into some things and that Ivan's name is not attached to the death of the worker so Lulu must not have sworn out a complaint? Ivan is still unsure about returning.
  • Lucia is visiting her dad, but he's not home yet. Carolina the blind sister-in-law is. Turns out the sister married to Gentle Gerry died of cancer. There's a young son, too: Alex. Gerry comes in. Hugs hugs. She can't stay for dinner. She has to go to the library. She got a job. Yay!
  • OMM works to convince Ivan to return to Mexico. So many words. He starts to leave and Ivan thanks "Tony" and later changes to "Padre." Ivan has flashbacks.
  • Gerry's deceased wife was Beatriz. Carolina has been very helpful and supportive. He and Lucia yammer a bit about Maripaz and LuCrayCray.
  • LuCrayCray and JJ talk about a new administrator. He can't recommend anyone and he bad mouths his sons a bit. He takes a little time to bust a move and Lulu rebuffs him (only barely.) The two hatch a plan to get Maripaz and David married. Something about dowry, which Maripaz doesn't have BUT it will stop the chismes about her being a *bleep* and a tramp and him being a *bleep* (whatever he said.)
  • LuCrayCray approaches Maripaz with the plan. Maripaz is not really on board and asks her mom if she knows what they say about him. LuCrayCray claims not to know, but informs MP that word on the street is that she's a tramp. MP denies it. LuCrayCray reminds her that she's almost 30 and no one's beating down the door. LuCrayCray tells her to think about it. Maripaz flashes back to that hot Ivan lovin' (I really think he missed his calling in the adult film industry.)
  • Saul and Antolin are talking and I gather that what Saul really likes about Lucia is that she is a virgin. And for Saul it's very important the HE is the first one in his wife's life (and I assume only. He probably sucks in the sack, but the poor wife will never know.) Antolin says some thing about Saul bringing a surprise to the bedroom (?) They plan on going out partying.
  • So Alex is telling Gerry all about the goal he made with his head. And later he's sent off to get ready for bed. Carolina is a little worried about the Lucia/Saul pairing. He throws money around and he likes to have "aventuras" (wink wink.) All this is according to Antolin, whom Gerry doesn't trust at all. He has faith in Lucia's good judgement.
  • Saul and Lucia enjoy a meal together. He says something about her not having to work after they marry. She says whoa nellie, it's a little early for that. We've only been dating about three months. We're still getting to know each other. A little argument since she's, you know...smart, independent... all those pesky qualities I suspect the Mondragons abhor. According to Saul the Caveman woman of their class don't work. They take care of their family.
  • Now, despite Saul neanderthal attitudes, Lucia is making out with him in front of the house. He pushes for more...they are engaged after all, she says no. She wants to enter her marriage a virgin. She leaves him cooling his heels outside the gate.
  • David has returned the now working car and he even took care of paying for it, too. Maripaz says in exchange he can have the honor of taking her out...oh and since ladies don't pay he can pick up the tab. He looks terrified. LuCrayCray is thrilled.
  • Ivan has come to call on OMM/Tony/Padre. He has decided to make the trip to Mexico. Ivan has dual citizenship now so travel won't be a big deal. OMM/Tony/Padre has some news. The Curiel Rancho is near ruin and again with all the words. I miss the details, but did I understand that JJ's ranch is suffering financially as well? Apparently he doesn't have the capital to update some of his agricultural practices? It seems JJ is walking a tighrope (la cuerda floja) as well.

Avances:

  • Ivan's headin' for Mexico
  • David is sold to the devil (That's code for the poor sap is marrying Maripaz.)
