La Fea Más Bella #142 11/9/06 The Licenciada and the Swiggler

Everyone shows up to work at the same time. Alicia arrives in a cab, and as she jumps out of the cab in front of Conceptos, she tells the driver that he won’t get any more money from her, because his fee is ridiculously high. The driver gets out of his cab and says he’s not leaving until she pays the rest. The insults fly back and forth. The cuartel, Celso, and Saimon watch the spectacle. Lety arrives in her the swiggle-mobile. The cab is blocking her way. She beeps and asks Celso to move the cab so she can park. Celso in turn asks Alicia to pay the cabbie so that the licenciada Lety can park her car.

(Quick break for a Spanish lesson… In Latin America, when someone has a "professional" position, people often address them by their title, e.g. arquitecto, ingeniero, doctor (of course), or licenciado. In addition to attorneys, which is the literal translation, licenciado is also used to address business professionals or white collar types who appear to more-or-less know what they’re talking about.)

Anyway… Alicia asks Celso to lend her the cab fare. He tells her no way, because she already owes him more than 300 pesos. She turns to Saimon, calls him Saimonsito, strokes her hair (I guess she thinks that’s sexy… it’s not sexy), and asks if he can pleeeeeease help her. He gives the cabbie 30 pesos. PM protests but he says it's just so they can get the cabbie to move. With the driveway clear, Lety moves her car. Celso plays traffic cop and directs her down the driveway. Alicia scolds Celso for helping Lety and asks how come when she drove in with her own sexy silver swiggle-mobile, he never once called her licenciada. He says duh, Alicia! Because all you have is six semesters of finance from who-knows-where! Lety actually has a degree, not to mention an MBA.

Lobo and Martha are at the clinic to find out why she fainted the day before -- after the tragic disappearing chocolate fiasco. She’s nervous. They call her into see the doc. She crosses herself as she goes in.

As they go into the building, Lety concedes to the gang that she’s a horrible driver, but that her dad made her get her driver’s license long ago. She says that her boyfriend let her borrow the car. PM asks what time she has to give it back. Lety says she wasn’t given a limit. PM says Woohoo! Let’s Party! She realizes that Saimon is listening from behind a pillar. She goes on about partying all night in the swiggle-mobile. Saimon jumps in to protest. She makes a face that tells him she was just kidding and kisses him. She pulls him by an imaginary tie. He pulls back. They struggle with the imaginary tie. He cuts the tie with some imaginary scissors and stomps off in an imaginary fit. (This is cute, but somehow, it’s just not as satisfying as the Lety/Fern romance that’s MIA.) Lety says she doesn’t know if she can party all night, but she wants to take them all out to lunch.

Everybody scurries off to work, except for Sara and Juan. Sara says she envies Lety. Who would have thought that the ugliest (she says “felliata”-- not “fea” -- which makes it okay because she’s saying it as a term of endearment, not as an insult) of the cuartel would have found herself a man first. Of course, Tomas isn’t exactly Mr. Universe, but hey he’s rich, and he’s a swell guy. Juana agrees that Tomas is very good to Lety (I guess the whole flirting with Jasmin thing didn’t make a bad first impression). She says she can think of at least one airhead (nodding in Alicia’s direction) who would LOVE to reel in a great catch like Tomas.

In her office, Lety though bubbles that her evil plan to make Fernando believe that she wants to take his company is working. She feels sort of bad about doing it, but he deserves it. He’ll have to suffer though it, and he’ll have to live through the nightmare of having her by his side. She lights Carolina’s Karma Cleansing Candle.

Back in the driveway, Celso is buffing the swiggle-mobile. Fern and Marcia arrive together in Fern’s beamer. He stops nexts to the swiggler and asks Celso to park it as he helps Marcia out. Marcia exclaims “Wow! Who’s is this?” Celso informs them that it belongs to the licenciada Lety’s boyfriend. Fern conducts a super-close detailed inspection of the driver’s side. She says the car is spectacular, then realizes Fernando is irritated. Not realizing why he’s irritated, she adds that, of course, the car is not really Lety’s style, or her boyfriend’s. Fern impatiently asks Celso if the licenciada Lety is inside the building with her boyfriend. Celso clarifies that, no, Lety arrived by herself in the car. Her boyfriend let her borrow it. “Her boyfriend has great taste, right? He’s got even better taste than you , Don Fernando.” Fern's irritation swells and orders Celso to clean the beamer, since that’s the car of the guy who pays his salary. Marcia comments that Lety’s beau must be uber-rich if he can afford that swiggle-mobile. She wonders if maybe he’s involved in something illegal.

In the lobby, Omar asks Sarah to run some errand for her. She looks at him with googly eyes and smiles. Sara runs off on the errand as Fern walks by. Omar asks Fern where the heck Lety got the swiggle-mobile. Fern says he plan to ask Lety just that. Then he yells at Omar for hanging up on him the night before. Omar says “Of course I hung up on you, because, Ay, Fernaaaaando!” (he does this imitating Alicia and stroking long imaginary hair) “You must be nuts if you’re at her house spying on her” Fern says that yes, he was spying but he found out important information, i.e. that she lied about not being home, and when Tomas left he took the swiggle-mobile with him. Then Fern remembers the PG who told him that he must free his soul and free himself of the company so he can finally be free to love. Omar tell Fern to talk to the little gargoyle…uh Lety (that joke is getting old) to find out what’s going on. Seeing Fern’s high level of distress, he tells Fern to calm down and tries to coach him through some breathing exercises. Fern calls Omar an idiot.

Form her desk, Lety hears Fern approaching and prepares herself for their little talk. Fern says he called her and wants to know why she never called back. Lety says she got home late, he didn’t say where she could call him, and besides, she figured he was probably with Marcia, so she didn’t want to bother them. Fern says that yes, he did have to go to Marcia’s, and oh, by the way, is that Tomas’s car outside or is it maybe borrowed or something? Lety says that the car is hers. Fern is impactado.

Next we get a montage of Tomas’s shopping trip. He gets help from a pleasant sales woman. He tries to show her how he wears his tie. She tells him to trust her and brings it down to a respectable length. They put a decent suit on him, give him a long coat, and a new pair of glasses.

Fernando laughs, thinking Lety must me joking. Lety says she’s not joking. He says she can’t use Concepto’s money for something like that. Lety points out that she only used Filmo Imagen money, and that he told her she could manage FI as she pleases, and that the swiggle-mobile is imperative to the image of FI.

Celso doesn’t care who pays his salary. He’s back to buffing the swiggle-mobile in the driveway. Ariel arrives wants to know whose swiggler it is.

Lety says that the swiggler belongs to the general manager of FI, who currently happens to be Tomas. Fern asks why she had to pick such an expensive car. Lety says that they need an image to match FI’s reputation. Otherwise no one will take them seriously, and that would be a bad thing for Conceptos. She insists that it’s for business use only and that she keeps it in her garage. Fern thought bubbles that is a lie because he watched the night before as Tomas took off with the car when he left Lety’s house. Lety then pulls a out her ace: a guilt trip. She cuddles up to him and reminds him that he once promised her a car but never delivered on his promise. Fern says he never promised her a million-peso car. Lety asks “don’t you think I’m good enough for it?” (I think she even batted her eyeslashes!)

Celso tells Ariel that it's Lety’s car. Ariel doesn’t recall any Leticia Padilla. Celso reminds him that she’s Fern’s assistant. Ariel can’t believe they pay their employees enough to afford something like this. Celso clarifies that it’s actually her boyfriend’s, but she’s driving it today. Ariel comments that if the car’s designers knew who would be driving the car, they would not have designed it.

Lety tells Fernando that she had to tell everyone that it’s her boyfriend’s car because she would not be able to explain where she got the money for it, plus, people would probably think she didn’t deserve the car, because she’s ugly and poor (She’s laying it on thick!). Fern says that of course she deserves it. Lety says he does not seem convinced. Fern says he just doesn’t understand why she’s treating him the way she is. Lety is still on a roll; she says that if he doesn’t trust her, she can take the car back and give him his company back. Fern remembers the PG again. The PG told him that there is a woman he loves but does not trust, and that love and mistrust can not co-exist. Fern tells Lety that it’s not about the car or the company. It’s about the two of them. He wants to talk about them. Lety says there is no time now, because he has an important lunch meeting to go to with some clients.

Just then Marcia calls for Fern from his office “Amo-or!” Neither Fern nor Lety seem to like the sound of that. She walks into Lety’s office and Fern yells “What?!” Marcia is offended and walks back out. Fern follows her and apologizes. He says he had been arguing with Lety about business, but doesn’t want to discuss the details. Marcia says if it’s business, she needs to know because it's her company too. He skirts the question. She wasn’t really interested anyway, she wants to talk about the wedding. He pretends he’s interested. Lety can hear from her office and calls him a traitor. Marcia shows him the wedding list. He looks at it for a nano-second. She asks whether he found out anything about Lety’s boyfriend. He says that he knows Lety’s boyfriend, and can vouch for the legitimacy of his character and money. Marcia says “Wow!” and gives two thumbs up before walking away. Fern imitates her thumbs up with disgust.

Fern goes to recap Omar on his conversation with Lety. Omar is surprised that Conceptos has enough capital to afford the swiggle-mobile. Fern confesses that he doesn’t know how to manage the situation.

Ariel stops by Alicia’s desk to degrade her about her car getting repo’d and also throws in a bunch of innappropriate comments about her body parts. (Are there any sexual harrassment laws in Mexico? Because I think I just found a way for Alicia to pay off all her debts.) He rubs it in that even Lety was able to snag a rich boyfriend, while she continues to live in financial misery. Alicia says that she has not lost her car yet, she’s getting it back, and she does not need his help because she had someone much better than him or Lety’s sorry-old boyfriend. Ariel calls her bluff and tells her that when she gets herself a non-fictional boyfriend, Ariel would be happy to meet him. After he leaves, she says that she won’t be degraded because of Lety’s fault, and we’ll see who ends up with Tomas the Rich Boyfriend.

Omar tells Fern that what Lety did is all Fern’s fault. He should have given her a better raise and the car he promised her before. Now she has sort-of given herself a raise. Did he think that the meager raise and all the horrible little kisses that he gave her would be enough? Fern objects that the kisses were not horrible!

Ariel comes to Lety’s office under the pretext that he’s checking on the status of the upcoming board meeting. Lety assures him that preperations for the board meeting are going fine and everything will be ready. Omar adds that everything better be accurate as well.

Omar points out that Lety never asked for compensation in return for managing FI. The 90,000 dollars are a mere fraction of the 45 million dollars she manages for FI/Conceptos. (I wonder if the Mexican version kept referring to dollars instead of pesos, or if they dubbed the dollar conversion for our benefit.)

Ariel tells Lety that her attitude is different, could it be because of the car she has parked outside? She says she imagines that the way she feels driving a $90,000 car must be similar to how he feels being at the head of a $45 million company. He says that yes, except that her car is only borrowed, while his $45 million company is actually his. (Ironic, because they are actually both hers!) He demands to know who her boyfriend is and what he does.

Fernando tells Omar that it bugs him that Lety has rejected him, has lied to him, has been disrespectful to him, has gone out with Tomas, and now she has bought the car. He is very angry with Leticia Padilla Solis. Omar asks what happened? He thought Lety was in love with Fern. Fern thought bubbles that he was in love with her too, until today, the day she betrayed him. Omar can’t believe that Fern, with his good looks and charm, has lost the love of a homely girl.

Lety tells Ariel that while an ugly girl with a gorgeous car must seem suspicious, he should not worry; her boyfriend is honorable and his money is legitimate. She points out that not all honorable and wealthy people are beautiful, and not all of them are his acquaintances . Many of them actually work very hard for their wealth and are way above his social circle so he can just stick his pompous opinion where the sun don’t shine (well, she was a little more diplomatic than that).

Fern pops in Lety’s door and jumps back in exaggerated fright when he sees Ariel, “The King of Vampires.” Ariel says he was just there for a status on the board meeting from Lety. He congratulates the licenciada Lety on her boyfriend. On his way out, he tells Fern that Lety’s boyfriend’s car is more expensive than Fern’s. Fern says that it’s also more expensive than Ariel’s.

Fern tells Lety that he wants to discuss the documents for the board meeting. Lety says she can’t because she's on her way out for lunch.

On her way out to lunch with the cuartel, they exchange insults with Alicia (not interesting enough to go into). Martha walks in and shares the outcome of her doctor’s visit…. She’s pregnant! …just kidding (I was surprised, because it is a well known novela rule that if a woman faints, it’s because she’s preggers). It turns out she has something called Aerophagia, which means she eats so fast that along with all the food, she swallows a bunch of air too. The funniest part of this scene is that when Martha announces her illness, Juana shouts “Holy Mother of the Squished!” (¡Santa madre de los apachurrados!) I’m still ROFL!
Will the Holy Mother of the Squished hear their prayers?
Will Fernando take the PG's advise and free his soul?
Will Tomas get a date -- and the ride of his life -- with Alicia?

Mundo de Fieras--Thursday, November 9

Gabe is visiting with Mari at the hospital. Nurse Ratchett lurks (I guess prowls would be a better word for la fiera) around the corner.

Candi gets a bad sign, her rosary is broken.

Jos injects Aurora with a mystery shot. Oddly, she comforts Aurora as she delivers the shot heard (or telepathically felt, as the case may be) around the world. Mari wakes suddenly, aware that something’s wrong. She runs to her mom’s room, barely missing Jos. She realizes Aurora is dead. Mari cries hysterically…she has a good chin tremble.

Paulina, overjoyed by the full-page proclamation of JC’s love is interrupted by Luisito…who also sees the ad and comments on it.

Elsewhere, Gabe’s also looking at the ad. He’s worried about Paulina…his associate tells him he’s a good father because he takes on his kids’ problems.

Mari’s still sobbing (didn’t bother calling a nurse…) and Clemente joins in with the wailing. Clemente calls Candi to break the news…she looks at her rosary and realizes that’s what the sign was for. Mari’s saying her final goodbyes to her mom…who as far as I could tell (I’m not a doctor) was still visibly breathing. Note to directors…unless your actor has an above-average lung capacity short, and in this case extremely short, shots are probably the best choice.

Karen, dressed up as I dream of Jeannie, and Tiberio (he left the astronaut suit at home) are doing their icky flirty thing. She’s so stupid.

Miriam notices that Jos is looking very calm and happy. (Killing people can do that when you’re a psychopath.) Jos said she took care of something…

Leo ambushes Gabe in the hospital corridor to talk about Mari’s love life in the hospital corridor. Leo’s not going to let her suffer. Leo makes the astute observation that Jos isn’t going to give Gabe a divorce anytime soon. Gabe defends himself by saying that he’s not a liar, he entered into his marriage with good (if blind and completely naïve) intentions but now that things (well, Jocelyn, at any rate) are going crazy loco…it’s time to call it quits. Then Leo asks, do you still love her? Gabe says no comment.

Miriam gets a phone call and learns that Aurora died…immediately she suspects Jos (which is kind of strange, considering that Aurora has been dying for awhile now) and asks her if that’s the business that she went to take care of. Jos is like, yeah, yeah, yeah…so what. Don’t worry about it, I was really careful…besides I have to go and see my shrink which is really cool because I can tell him all the crazy bat sh*t stuff I do and he can’t tell anyone because I’m his patient (based on my extensive legal experience…reruns of Law & Order…I thought that if the patient was killing other people or threatening to kill other people the dr. had to tell someone).

We see later that Karen & Ty go to a Scottish restaurant (based on the tartan tablecloths)…Tiberio, giggling creepily, shows Karen the ad from JC. Clearly he’s hoping to be her rebound man.

Paulina & JC are looking over their relationship mementos simultaneously. They both look like 13 year olds right out of the gate.

At the shrink’s office…Jos is discussing her constant thoughts about death, her curiosity about killing someone and what would be reasonable justifications for killing someone. The doctor takes careful notes as he sees a book deal…maybe even a movie offer…with this BSC (that’s the medical term) patient’s story. Later, the psychiatrist meets with Federico privately and tells him that Jocelyn has no sense of morality and is guided only by what she wants. He recommends they hospitalize her.

Ty comes home and his mom gives him a lecture about Belen. He asks her why she’s so interested in him and she tells him for his well-being. He says, well, in that case let’s get it on and jumps on her (that’ll make a mother proud). Needless to say, she freaks out and let’s the truth slip out. Now it’s Ty’s turn to freak out, insisting that his mother is dead. He runs away to Demian’s room for the truth (a reliable source if ever there was one). Demian kicks him out. We see Dolores crying & praying.

Federico calls Miriam to tell her their daughter is a total nut job and needs to be hospitalized. Miriam doesn’t believe him and hangs up.

Jos is saying goodnight to Luisito and gives him the news that Aurora died. Instead of bed, she packs him up and takes him to the funeral. Much to the disdain of everyone else at the funeral, Jos makes a grand entrance.

Back at bedtime…Luisito hopes to come over whenever his mom asks him to, but she tells him that he won’t want to after Gabe knocks him around as a punishment for coming over. Luisito looks surprised and confused, as only he can.

Paulina, working on a jigsaw puzzle that looks like it’s meant for a five year old, gets a call from JC. She plays it cool…he tells her to look out her window. He’s down below with a big chalk heart drawn on the street, decorated with rose petals that says, I love you Paulina. Um…where I come from, this is called stalking.

Ingrid tells Miriam that Padre Anselmo came around. Miriam’s like, who the heck is that? Ingrid says he was talking about the kids left on the church steps and she thinks he might know it was she who left Miriam’s son. Pshaw, says Miriam, you said no one saw you. Raising Miriam’s blood pressure even higher, Ingrid suggests that Miriam’s secret won’t be one for much longer.

At the funeral, Mari is crying and saying that she needs time to think. Leo says, of course we’ll give you time (He looks at his watch and says okay, time’s up…just kidding).

Paulina goes downstairs to brush off JC, she still doesn’t believe his little demonstrations of love. He reiterates his love for her, looking kind of crazed as he does it. She calls him stubborn and walks away. It starts to rain (just in, like, one spot), washing away the beautiful chalk heart (these two need to grow up)

Mari thanks Gabe for rebuilding her mom’s house. She tells him she needs some time alone, but would like the chance to be near Luisito. He says sure, offers his condolences and leaves. Clemente then offers to help her, but she says no.

Paulina looks out the window and wishes that their love was like the chalk heart, washed away by the torrential downpour now raining down on JC, but no…their love is very strong. She wants to tell him she loves him, but she can’t and won’t do it (speaking of stubborn). She calls him to tell him to leave, but ends up admitting that she’s scared of feeling what’s in her heart again. He says, don’t be afraid. I know I’ve screwed up but let me show you how much I love you and that I can be your protector and your refuge. She waits a couple more hours (just to make sure he gets pneumonia), calls him back and says, okay I’ll come down there just as Karen arrives. Then Paulina gets all huffy, but he stops her so she can hear him tell Karen, once and for all, that he loves Paulina.

Clemente & Gabe are discussing Aurora’s death and Mari’s future. Clemente ‘fesses up that Mari is his daughter.

Mundo de Fieras, Wed. November 8

We open with Demian threatening Gabriel with a gun. First Paulina puts herself between the gun and Gabriel but Demian says that he will kill them both. Then JC jumps in front of the gun saying that he won’t allow this.

Joselyn is driving her car and thinking to herself that this is the first time that she has gotten rid of someone permanently and she liked it. If necessary, she won’t hesitate to do it again.

After a few seconds of waving his gun around while Gabriel and JC exhort him to either: 1. Stop the violence; or 2. Shoot me if you have to shoot someone, Demianputs up the pistol and leaves. Gabriel thanks JC for intervening and JC apologizes for Demian. Gabriel says that JC is not responsible for what Demian does and notes that JC is very different than his father.

JC and Paulina leave Demian’s office together. Back at their office, Paulina says that she didn’t realize the extent of the hatred between their two fathers. ‘If we got back together, we would be defying our families,’ she says while JC tells her that they have to fight for their love. Paulina says that it is impossible.

Back with the jolly cab drivers. Leo drives up all excited that he had gotten the autograph of a big star: Flor Rubio. Then they find that Flor has left the prize that she won the previous evening in the cab. Meanwhile Flor is getting an earful from some guy for losing the prize.

Luisito has waited all day for his mother to come and see him and the maid can’t reach her on the phone. Too bad, Mom’s out murdering her lover and has no time for her kid. Paulina also tries to comfort Luisito by saying that of course his mother loves him. All mothers love their children.

Joselyn comes into Miriam’s office and tells her that she has solved the Didier problem. She has murdered him. Miriam has no problem with having Didier killed but she can’t believe Joselyn did her own dirty work. 'Why didn’t she hire someone?' asks Miriam. Joselyn responds that it was very easy to kill Didier.

In the evil black Hummer, Tiberio tells Demian that he is so surprised that JC acted against Demian. ‘Your own son!’ he says.

Ingrid is hanging up clothes in Miriam’s shop. A priest comes in and asks to see Miriam. Ingrid tells him that Miriam isn’t around. Ingrid asks why the priest has come. The priest says that he is collecting for his church where many babies are abandoned after they are born. Ingrid sends the priest away but she is disturbed about how the priest is looking at her – almost as if he knew that Miriam had abandoned a baby at his church.

Leo takes the prize to the studio and tries to talk his way past the guard. Meanwhile. in the studio, there is a problem with the show they are taping if they don't have the prize. Somehow Leo gets past the guard and the next thing we know, he is on the soundstage returning the prize. Of course the star is grateful and invites Leo to be on the program and of course back in the barrio, one of the cabbies turns up with a little battery powered TV. The cabbies and Candelaria and the maid who are watching in the kitchen are all excited to see Leo on TV.

Paulina gets a wrapped gift from a messenger. It is a key on a chain and the note says that JC is giving Paulina the key to his heart to do with what she will. Gabriel finds Paulina crying after reading the note. She won’t explain what is going on and leaves but Gabriel finds the note.

Demian muses on Tiberio’s words about JC’s betrayal. Demian acknowledges that Tiberio has been created in Demian’s image. Demian wonders how Tiberio would react if he knew Demian wasn’t his godfather but father and Tiberio was JC's older brother.

Tiberio comes into a room where Karen is dressed up like a school girl from hell. ‘Is this your fantasy?’ she asks him.

Candelaria is leaving Gabriel’s house marveling to herself that Leo was on TV when Joselyn and Miriam come home. She tells Joselyn that Luisito has been waiting for her all day but Joselyn says that she is too tired to see the kid. Candelaria also reminds Joselyn and Miriam that tomorrow is Luisito’s Saint’s Day but they don’t care.

Tiberio is getting it on with Karen when she suddenly decides to leave. Meanwhile, Dolores cultivates Belen and gets Tiberio’s cell phone number from her. Dolores calls and hears Karen and Tiberio arguing. She is concerned that the cousins might break the incest taboo.

The next day, it’s little Luisito’s name day. Joselyn arrives bringing a cake and complaining to herself about having to do anything for the occasion. Coming into the hall, she sees MA give Luisito a gift while he says cloying things like, ‘the real present is having you here, MA.’ Seeing how MA and Gabriel look at each other, Joselyn decides that they love each other. Joselyn
leaves before anyone sees her and throws her cake on the ground vowing to destroy MA.

Diana is babbling happily about her pregnancy when Rogelio drops a bombshell – he thinks that she should get rid of the baby. He doesn’t want it. Diana is impactada.

Dolores begs Demian to keep Tiberio and Karen from getting together. Demian promises that he will speak to Tiberio. Delores asks Demian not to tell Tiberio that he and Karen are cousins and Demian says that she can have confidence in him because of how he feels towards her.

Joselyn tells Miriam that she saw MA and Gabriel kissing, which isn’t true. Joselyn concludes that it is because of MA that Gabriel wants a divorce and she promises to make them pay for deceiving her. She swears this while making a big mess by throwing everything on the desk onto the floor.

Candelaria tells Leo how wonderful it was to see him on TV.

It is a rule of novelas that good characters who are going to die get to say farewell to their loved ones whether they know that they are going to die or not. This leavetaking requirement is more powerful than the medical conditions that would seem to make it impossible. Aurora is supposed to be in the final stages of Alzheimers, an untreatable disease that destroys the brain. However, Aurora is looking good and has all her faculties. My favorite was in another novela, Velo de Novia, where the saintly Angeles was able to have a conversation and bid a tender farewell to her true love even though she had been declared brain dead after an accident.

Anyway, in a series of extremely repititive scenes that I will condense here, Father Anselmo,Clemente, Leo and Candelaria each go to see Aurora separately. She asks each of them to watch out for and take care of MA when she gone and thanks them for helping her family. They all say that they will take care of MA but that Aurora will be around for years. Finally, Aurora blesses MA and they talk about their plans for the future.

Clemente goes to see Joselyn to talk about her divorce from Gabriel but Joselyn says that she has never been a father to her and tells him to get out.

Gabriel thanks MA for coming to see Luisito on his name day. She goes on about how much she cares for the kid. She also tells Gabriel that if she comes to his apartment, it is only to see Luisito and no other reason. Gabriel says he understands.

All the cabbies congratulate and tease Leo about his success on television.

Demian tries to tell Tiberio not to see Karen. His reasons, that Karen is the daughter of his enemy are not convincing to Tiberio who points out that Karen is the daughter of Joselyn’s first marriage [of course that means that Tiberio and Karen are not related by blood at all]. Finally, Demian forbids it just because he says so and Tiberio says that he will obey, as he always does. When he leaves, Demian tells himself that he doesn’t care if Tiberio and Karen are cousins, he doesn’t want to incur Dolores’ wrath right now.

Dolores tries to talk to Karen but she won’t listen, calls her a killer and orders her to leave her house.

Paulina seems to have recovered from her emotion upon receiving JC’s gift. At their office, she gives it back to him and yells at him for sending her gifts when he is interested in Karen. JC denies being interested in Karen. Paulina starts to leave and JC grabs her and kisses her. She resists at first but, of course, surrenders to his embrace then slaps him for grabbing her without her permission.

Joselyn calls Luisito and tells him that she is coming to see him with a gift for his Santo. It will be a big surprise. He is pathetically excited and Joselyn rolls her eyes when the conversation ends.

Joselyn shows up at Gabriel’s apartment and makes nice with Luisito and gets herself invited to dinner. She gives the kid a fish tank and he is very excited. Joselyn tries to cozy up to Gabriel by saying how much she misses Luisito but Gabriel says that she isn’t capable of caring for a child until she gets help for her mental problems. Joselyn responds that she isn’t crazy.

Regina comes in to see JC who is playing with the key he tried to give Paulina. She tells him to fight for his love for Paulina. She didn’t fight and lost her love.

Diana tells Gabriel, Paulina, Pedro, Luisito and Joselyn that she is preggers. They are all happy and congratulate her except Pedro. Gabriel asks why Rogelio isn’t present for this happy occasion.

Rogelio is with Miriam. He asks her to help him see that the baby is not born. She agrees. Babies can get in the way.

After dinner, Joselyn suggests to Gabriel that since they were all happy together as a family, he should forget the divorce. Gabriel says that they will never be a family and with her gigantic necklace rattling away, Joselyn leaves in a huff.

Regina tells Demian that it is too bad that the hatred he has for his brother is making his son unhappy. Demian says that it is JC's fault for looking for love where he shouldn’t. Regina says that she will fight for JC to be happy against any and all and will even fight against Demian, if necessary.

Paulina is reading the newspaper when she sees a full page ad that says, ‘Paulina, you are not only the love of my life, you are my life, JC.’ She is happy.

MA meets Gabriel in the hall of the clinic. She tells him how happy she is that her mother is getting better etc. etc. They go for coffee. In stalks Joselyn in the world’s tightest nurse outfit.

From the previews for tomorrow, it looks like there will be no dawn for Aurora.

La Fea Más Bella #141 11/8/06 Tomas finds German engineered love, and Fernando learns of his future

Tomas and Lety are driving back to Lety’s house arguing about Tomas’ new found sex-appeal …uh…translate Mercedes… and he doesn’t understand why Lety was so mad. T -What is so bad about having Jasmin’s number? T- I was just being nice and asking about you and she came up and starting talking to me. Lety says, oh yeah, so nice that her number ended up in your cell phone? Tomas asks her what he should have done, tell her not to touch his cell phone? That’s no way to treat the ladies. Lety accuses him of being flirtatious. Really, you are chasing all the women at Conceptos. Well, I’m successful at it so, you can’t blame me… L- you are not successful, it’s the car! You are such a fool you are messing with the worse women at Conceptos! T- You say that because of Alicia? Yes, her, but also that chick Jasmin. She’s a sponge, a husband stealer, she’s going with Lola’s husband caray! Tomas says well, just let them dream about me then, there’s nothing wrong with that. L- I don’t want everyone making fun of me because my boyfriend is so cavalier. She says at least be faithful to me in front of the office folk. Tomas agrees she’s in charge and he’ll be faithful to her….Novia Mia, novia mia……they walk arm and arm into the house.

Fer drives up and can’t believe his eyes, just what in the name of God is going on here? This is absurd! He gets out of his car and paces in front

Now we are inside, and Robopop tells Lety & Tomas they can’t just show up here with such an expensive car and not explain it. He accuses them of poorly managing Don Fernando’s money, and that they are abusing their positions. Lety fires back that’s not what’s happening, and she and Tomas try to explain, Robopop argues and drills them about the money, Lety loses her patience and just says her Papa will never understand so just forget it and she runs upstairs.

Julieta follows her wondering what’s wrong. Lety again denies anything and the phone rings. L tells her mom to answer and say she’s not home because she doesn’t want to talk to anyone. Of course it’s Fer and since he’s out front he knows she lying, and he angrily asks when she’s expected and Julieta explains she doesn’t know, would you like to leave a message? F- yes, tell her I called. Julieta tells this to Lety, and that she doesn’t like lying or denying her daughter’s wishes and wants to know what’s wrong. Lety says nothing, and not to worry.

Miraculously, because this is a telenovela, the psychic guy from church pulls up in a white car behind Fernando, gets out and stands arms crossed in front of Don Fer. Fernando is a little concerned and thinks the guy maybe wants him to move his car, and psychic guy (PG) says, no I’m interested in you. Fer goes on about just being parked and it’s not his fault and stuff and PG cuts him off and tells him there is something so forceful about you that I’m drawn to. Fer says buddy, you shouldn’t drink, or if you drink you shouldn’t drive, but PG says something happened to you as a child that defined your direction in life, you were confused and made a decision to become competive and fight to not give up something, ever. Fer assures him he’s wrong. PG - If I can see your soul, I’m not wrong; I see your soul, and it’s trapped. F- What? Where? Look around we are free, there’s plenty of fresh air… Breathe… PG – You are trying to maintain control of something material. I see a house, or maybe a big building, a factory or something. F- Conceptos? PG- Your need to be in control is causing you to make the wrong decisions and you are confused. F- No there’s no confusion, man. PG- You aren’t out here because you are trying to understand something that is troubling you? Your preoccupation has to do with a woman that is near here but she seems far way because she’s hiding from you. You want to care about her, but at the same time you don’t trust her or (not even a close relative of hers?). There’s either (love? something) or mistrust. F- No, it’s not that I don’t trust her. Then why are you out here spying on her? F – Because what you don’t know is that this woman has a friend and I’m afraid they are going to take my company. PG - Well why is this company consuming you. For this business you’ll give up all that is really important to you. Fern thinks to himself that’s true if I break off my engagement my parents will kill me and I can’t disappoint them, in this or the business. Fern denies, then finally admits that yes he put aside some feelings of love in favor of the company, and yes it’s something very tender and sweet, but it’s in conflict with the life I’ve always lead, my family, my business, my circumstances, and my whole future!! PG-You are so convinced that this is the right way to live your life? Well let me tell you, this is your first mistake. This mistake is what’s got you trapped.

Fe says no that’s crazy, you are a stranger, I don’t believe anything you say…why should I believe someone who just walks up to me on the street and claims to know things about my childhood. I’m not going to believe a stranger. There's was a reason that PG ran into Fer, how his voice was heard, ad it's not that strange. PG said coincidences don’t exist... I’m here to tell you to cleanse your soul and let go of this business so that you can find true love. I’m telling you, you will see me again because you will need me again one day and he walks away getting into car…
F- He’s loco!!!!! Don’t drink!!!! He calls Carvajal and tells him Lety denied him. He sees the parents walking the dog and gets more upset that Lety and Tomas are left alone up in the bedroom! And they turned off the lights in one room now all the lights are off!!

Fe argues with Omar the Imbecile but the call gets cut off.

Back in Lety's room Tomas is worried about Erasmo not letting them off the hook about the car business. He's also worried about what they should tell Fe. [Funny he wasn't worried about that when he was uder the spell of the Benz at the dealership.] Lety says she'll tell him the truth…what is he going to say? Well you’ll give that guy a heart attack!! Calm down, we’ll just see wait to see what he says. There is more about showing up in the car and making him jealous.

Lety exclaims that Fer did this to me because I’m ugly…..he doesn’t want to put himself in the hands of an ugly girl. T thinks maybe he’ll take away the car! They talk a little about their plan going forward that at least Lety should learn how to drive. She tells him he needs to buy some more elegant clothes, but I like multicolors.... [and being choked by a clown tie... :)]

Lety are you sure your not too full of disgust? There’s nothing worse than a women scorned; Lety says yes there is, an ugly woman scorned… [ouch!]T- ok, I’ll take your orders, you are my boss. T- What should we do with the car…we can’t leave it in the street? [I wondered about this, such an expensive car in her neighborhood] Should we put it here, no it would have to put out Erasmo’s car, and he’ll be mad. Lety asks if Tomas' garage is being used. He said not really, but it's full of stuff, sweetbread and junk and rats... L- yeah but there’s bad rats in the street too…T- Alright, I’ll clean mine and put it in there… L-Not a scratch…you watch the car! T-With my life!

Tomas leaves, he sweet talks the car and dances around it drunk in Benz love while Fer watches in disgust. T opens the top, plays with the windows…he blows a kiss to Lety and thanks her…the whole time not noticing the brooding Fer slumped in the hot Beamer two feet away....

Fer calls him an idiot, the epitome of imbecility, his brain is full of mooo, mushke……guano (birdsh**)!!!

Lety writes sap in her diary, she has to find the strength to get back at him, but when he looks at her, she’s still hurting and dying for him. She’s still weak and in pain, but everything she’s doing is to make him think she’s stealing the business even though that’s not really true. She has to be strong. Yep, he’ll cry inside and out, more than I ever did. He deserves this revenge and he deserves to be punished!!! Brava Lety!!!

Ok, here we go, get out your barf bags….Fe goes to Marcia’s she knows something up, he blames it on the office. She wants him to forget all that by talking about something pleasant and happy, like the wedding!!!! Fer’s just been stabbed in the chest…no, only if she knew!!!! She says, I know what it is, it’s not the business, but instead the wedding must be at the bottom of it all. She makes a heart with her arms and sticks her squirrely face in it!!! Yuk!!! You can take some time to get rid of your bags now. She says she realizes that a lot of things are still up in the air. Like where we are going to live. Fer flashes back to Lety telling him about hs parents gift. Marcia keeps going ….she said one of us has to start planning and preparing and of course it’s me…. she goes on and on about all the wedding tasks she going to start to do tomorrow. She notes something is still wrong, she says she’s stupid. Of course! You haven’t forgotten “her!” F- says what “her”? There is no “her”. Marica actually stays surprising pleasant!!! Very sweetly she says, surely you haven’t forgot about “her.” He tells Marcia he’s always with Marcia, thinking of Marcia; there’s no one else. She says she hopes he gets over it soon because the wedding isn't that far off and she can’t marry a guy who has someone else in his heart. Fer gets a blank look. [Women are so insightful aren’t they! But she's handing him his exit strategy.....]

Lety writes more self loathing…how could she have been so stupid to think he would fall for her. Their worlds are so different!! How did I get it so wrong. Oh well for now he will continue living the nightmare of having me by his side.

We flash to a nightmare, go figure. He dreams he’s looking at the car, it’s possessed! No it’s Lety and Tomas making out!!! Wow, he screams at Lety not to do this to him. He says Lety’s name as he wakes up. Marcia hears him and she asks him if he was dreaming about Lety?? No the office, and other things. Well, why? Is there a problem at the business? F-No, of course not, just the usual. M- Well it must have been a nightmare if you were saying Lety’s name!! He fondly says her name over and over to himself.

Next day Tomas sweet talks the car again ….and today’s celebrity guest….walks up in a short skirt to flirt with Tomas, but then disappears when Lety shows up. You all are learning the cure...just get a Benz!!! Tomas opens the passenger side, but Lety gets in the driver’s seat. He freaks out! What are you doing? She wants to learn to drive. He freaks out some more! She says we are sharing this car because it’s Filmo Imagen’s ...today my millionaire boyfriend lends me his car. Today Lety the Fea will be an elegant woman with many appointments! Tomas reluctantly proceeds to describe the process very nervously. Lety “drives” the swiggle mobile (alias Mercedes - apparently Ocampo doesn't want to pay the rights to use the image) back and forth, nearly hitting Ropopop, exclaiming for him to see that she is driving just like Papa showed her. He sees that and says it’s crazy.

Lety manages to drive Tomas to the store to get his new wardrobe. She is trying to navigate the parking lot, and panic beeps at another car pulling out. The [very cute] driver gets out of his car and wonders why she’s beeping at him, he mocks her saying what a beautiful car, the beauty is going out with her prince by her side and she’s going to buy the parking lot to learn how to drive. He says once you’ve bought it, call me, so I can show you the right way to drive!!! Bye Beautiful! L responds- Bye Ugly!!!!

T- See that! He called you beautiful!!! He’s in love with you!! He asked for your number!! With this car you can get anyone!! Come on girlfriend let’s go. Lety tells Tomas no he has to buy clothes at this mall by himself and she says goodbye. She’s going to take the car? He can’t believe she is going to leave him, what is he going to do? Just tell the salesman to choose something modern and elegant like he wore to Yuri’s.
He freaks out because he’s going to have bags of things and what is he going to do. The bags are going to fall all over the place if he can't put them in the car and this won't match his new polished image. She brought him into this world of sophistication and it’s changed his life. He doesn’t think the same way any more. He needs the car!!! Are you going to take it all day? He begins to worry that he won’t make his date with Alicia, but he doesn’t want to tell this to Lety. They argue about when she’s coming home. T- I have needs and I won’t be able to do this if you take the car..he makes up stuff about being worried about her in this city. She says she’s ugly but not blind. It’s not about being ugly, beside you look beautiful in this car. She has to go. They argue some more, he doesn’t like the micro…L- you are not going to change my mind…bye…..Tomas is a true Benz addict by now, [just like Alicia, fijate]. He complains…she resolves everything so easily…and if she keeps the car all day? What am I going to do about Alicia? Well I’ll get her somehow he says pushing a shopping cart.

Back at Conceptos…Jasmin and Cheque are arguing in the car. Jasmin doesn’t want Lola to stay in that house. J-You have to sell it and keep half the money. Cheque is actually on Lola’s side[sort of], he says he’s not going to take it away from her because that is taking it way from his children and he can’t do that. Jasmin whines that she thought he was going to buy her a car or an apartment for them to live in with all that money and this isn't what she thought they agreed on…but I’m not selling Lola’s house to buy you a car…guilt trip time…. Cheque pines that he lives, breathes, and works for Jasmin but he needs to stay good to his children. Jasmin exits mad.
Uh oh, Sara sees him!!! Look out, here comes roller derby chick!!! He quickly drives off.. now a taxi pulls up. Sara and the others take the opportunity to tease Alicia for showing up in the taxi instead of her Benz. Alicia clearly doesn’t want to pay the driver the whole fare and they are arguing. He parks and says he’s not moving until she pays him. Just then Lety pulls up in the swiggle mobile and beeps at Celso to have the taxi guy move so she can park…..what will happen next?????

We’ll have to wait and see!!! I’m thinking if you spend a million pesos on a car you should be able to push a button and just plow right over that taxi!!!!!!

Heridas de Amor--Wednesday, November 8

Miranda has just received Fab’s call and Bertha prevents her from calling the cops. As the local kidnapping recovery expert, Bertha advises that they wait and find out how much the ransom is.

Renata is finishing up her very special talk with her in-laws. She goes in to wake up Juan, starts crying and shows him the ugliest doll in the world. Juan tells her that Fern is going away…she says she can’t because she has to take care of Flo…he says, she’s just going to wait until she stabilizes and then is going somewhere far away where no one knows her. The in-laws are commiserating about the 3 girls emotional wounds from having such screwed up parents.

Al is telling Luciano about his concerns regarding Fab. Daira’s trying to get Lis all excited about their trip to Italy, but Lis is acting ever the sulky, spoiled little brat. Daira asks if she’ll tell who it is that hit her, Lis says no she won’t tell because she was treated badly because she acted badly. Then Daira starts in with the Public Service Announcement about how no woman deserves to be knocked around (I think the Mexican Dept. of Health and Social Services sponsored this segment). Lis goes on with her attitude of, when you love someone, you have to accept everything (I think the everything we’re talking about here is when they fart in bed and leave the toilet seat up, honey). Alejandro asks Lis how she is and she kicks the sulky, spoiled little brat act into high gear.

Miranda continues to ask Bertha for advice with the kidnapping issue. How fortunate for her, because now she can steer her right where she wants her. She tells her to call Cesar, but not to tell him what’s going on, just to ask him to come over. They have some more brandy (a lot more, based on how full those glasses were!).

Flo is complaining to Fern about Fab and worrying that it was her craving for mangos with chile (yum!) that is causing his absence. Daira & Lis show up to say goodbye, Lis complains about her brother. Wah. Fern notices Lisania’s shiner and she and Flo give her the same advice she’s been hearing…well, from everyone. She continues on with her justification that she deserved it.

Bertha’s on the phone with el Guapo making sure the tracks are covered. The two sadists are discussing Guapo’s plan with Fab—Bertha gives him the green light as far as pain is concerned. Bertha continues on with her instructions…to tell the pretty boy exactly what she told el Guapo to tell him.

Fern examines Lis. She tells Lis not to allow herself to be hit like that. Lis reiterates that she likes it. Fern continues with the second part of the Public Service Announcment about healthy relationships. Lis is like, whatever. Then, when Fern says, if you can’t feel the pain, you could die without even realizing it…Lis thinks this would be a really beautiful way to go. Someone should just shake some sense into this girl…oh wait, that might not work.

Luciano’s looking at the investments and accounts, and can’t believe what’s going on. Alejandro asks what he’s talking about, but doesn’t want any more surprises….sorry Al, not very likely. Luckily, it’s the good kind of surprise…the capital is frozen and not even Bertha can screw around with it. High fives all around.

Back at Fab’s dungeon…el Guapo shows up with two of the healthiest looking rats I’ve ever seen. He wakes up Fab with a bucket of water and starts tormenting him psychologically about his very hungry rats.

Cesar arrives and Miranda tells him that Fab’s been kidnapped. The phone rings and Miranda hears Fab’s cries of pain. She faints, Cesar catches her and Alejandro sees it, but Bertha steers him away from it. Bertha fills him in on her & Miranda’s new found friendship. She asks him, Who am I? Without hesitation he answers, you are a cold, calculating woman, who enjoys the suffering of others. You are short of saying you’re an angel, but we all know what you did. When he asks her how Cesar & Miranda ended up together, she gives him the very long, round-about, complicated version of…Fabricio was kidnapped.

Fab is freaking out about the rabbit sized rat that el Guapo is threatening him with. Then Guapo takes a sample of Fab’s sweat/blood, asking “do you know what fear smells like?”

Francisco, driving his taxi, picks up some chick despite not wanting to. What a nice guy…clearly, he and Leonardo (from Mundo de Fieras) share a car and a kind-hearted, honest disposition (this message brought to you from the United Federation of Mexican Taxi Drivers).

Cesar & Al call each other imbeciles…always a good way to work together to solve difficult situations…as they work out what to do about Fab. They argue about telling Flo or not. Miranda decides to go see Flo…Cesar buts his snarky nose in and offers to drive her there. Alejandro, in his Bee-Gees outfit, tells Cesar to remember that Miranda is his wife, like it or not. Bertha advises him to go after Miranda.

Luciano & Lisania are discussing her abuse issues. She says it’s good to go to Italy…a little break. He asks her to tell him who it is, she says no, besides it doesn’t matter since it’s her fault, not his (ugh.) When her mom asks how she is, she starts crying about not wanting to go to Italy, even though she know she has to do it. She almost lets the name slip. Daira gives her a medallion that she received from Alfredo when Lis was born. Lis finally apologizes to her mom.

Fern tells Cesar to call the authorities. Cesar doesn’t want to. He hasn’t told Rebecca about it either. Cesar says they’ll probably have to sell the house, and that Rebecca will probably agree that her son is worth it.

In Flo’s room, Miranda & Al are lying to her about Fab’s whereabouts. They tell her he’s with Rebecca, since she’s had a little nervous attack. She buys it, hook, line & sinker, but says to tell him to visit her tomorrow…she’s more important than Rebecca (she must be feeling better…the old, self-centered Flo’s coming out again). Again, Dr. Mom, resorts to prescription meds to shut her up (or down…). Fern asks to speak with Miranda, who agrees to a little sit down. Alejandro tells Juan not to tell Flo about Fab.

Carola is whining about Juan to…his brother. Raul doesn’t give too much sympathy, telling her it’s all her own fault, not Renata’s. Raul tries to distract her with the new computer (wow!). Renata shows up with a shrink-wrapped printer & some programs. Carola & Renata decide to have a little woman-to-woman chat about Juan.

Rebecca is sitting around feeling sorry for herself because Julio, the man she’d lied to for the past 20 some years, left her. Cesar shows up and breaks the news in the most suspense-building way possible…they have to sell the house, it’s for Fab’s own good, well, Fab was kidnapped. She says sell everything, the house, my jewels, the country house…and then lets it slip that the country house is actually in Fab & Flo’s name.

Miranda tells Alejandro & Fern about her special moment with Bertha. She’s confused. Alejandro tells her to wake up and smell the coffee. Fern says, well it is true that she was never violent toward the girls. Alejandro says, yeah, yeah, yeah but she set the fire at the farm and did lots of other really bad stuff. The happy couple start yelling at each other. Fern plays referee. Miranda (not liking the smell of this coffee) says maybe it was a mistake to talk about this, Alejandro says, yeah maybe you should tell Cesar. (Um….Miranda you really are being stupid here).

Looking forward to tomorrow, it seems that Rodents of Unusual Size will be the least of Fab's worries as el Guapo ratchets it up a notch...

Heridas, Tuesday Nov. 7th

In which many of our characters, including Lucas, stop acting like themselves...

It was fun to see a repeat of Bertha gnashing her teeth, then petting Lucas, then falling into a tormented sleep. Cut to Nati, "Bertha...death and much disgrace" as the lightning cracks in her pool's reflection.

After that excitement we go to boring old Andrea and Padre Santiago. She says she always knew it..."it" being that El Magnate was not really Leonardo I suppose. They agree that she blocked the traumatized past from her mind. I guess this explains why she did not know her own husband's imposter. Now she is worried about Pamela, so to keep her mind off tonterias she will help with the annual church fiesta.

El Guapo sneaks up and surprises them. He tells Santiago that the word in the town is that Padre Santiago is coming for a visit and they want to know so that they can prepare a guajalote = turkey (I think) and receive him in the manner he deserves. Santiago says he's coming after the church fiesta. (It seems to me that El Guapo is always talking in riddles and double-entendres, but I don't understand well enough to get them. Am I imagining things or is this supposed to be his inscrutable style?)

At the hacienda little miss Fauntleroy (I'm sorry, but I hate Miranda's outfit) and Pamela ask Charo to see Tomasa's clothing. They want to know if Charo found anything important. Tomasa died months ago and they are asking now? Charo, who looks much younger than Miranda, keeps calling Miranda niña. Charo remembers that she found some papers about Tomasa's granddaughter but she gave them to Padre Santiago and he gave them to Fernanda. Suddenly the volume on the TV set gets very loud as if by magic. The news is about the fall of the drug cartel and the death of El Magnate. Pamela sobs that she must tell Fermin.

Cesar is in a bar pissed off as usual, smoking as usual, drinking as usual, and throwing his matchbook around in a snit. He's a real chick magnet. Luis Alberto shows up late with excuses. Cesar tells him to shut his snout, (look who's calling whom pig), Luis Alberto is obligated to arrive 15 minutes prior to his own arrival. I repeat, pig. He demands to know why LA didn't tell him that Gonzo went to London. Ummm...cuz he didn't know anything about it? Cesar says that's no excuse. He blames LA for everything. Luis Alberto asks what will they do if Gonzo suspects the parallel accounts? Cesar says he'll make Gonzalo disappear, then he gets an eager and menacing look on his face.

Bertha is lying on the bed snoring. No, it's Lucas who is snoring and he wakes her up. She feels much better and sees things more clearly after her little nap. She wants to go for a walk but Lucas won't budge. He snores some more and she telephones El Guapo.

Florencia is sleeping while Fern and Al watch protectively. El Guapo approaches the window to her room and beckons to Fernanda. Alejandro cannot see him. Fern goes out and recognizes him as being with Padre Santiago at the church. He leers at her and kisses her hand, holding it longer than she likes. He tells her his name is Egberto. She excuses herself and he leers some more.

Juan arrives home with flowers and kisses for Renata. I know he has only two expressions and he is a scary face-sucker when he kisses but he's still a hottie. They jump on the bed and yes! she's going to take off his shirt. Uh oh, a knock on the door. It's Carola and she tiptoes up to their door and sees them making out. Juan is shirtless (thank-you!) and Renata is about to join him. Carola is impactada and runs out. The lovers never even see her.

Nuria goes to the hospital for her appointment with Dr. Cohen. He's not there so Fernanda will see her. Nuria asks if she is Fernanda de Aragon, mother of Miranda San Llorente. If so then Fernanda is her aunt. Nuria faints after revealing this to Fernanda.

Bertha has gotten Lucas off his lazy butt but he's cranky, or a stand-in, because when they walk by Miranda he barks at her. Miranda tells Bertha to shut the dog up. Bertha says "Don't yell at me stupid! Nothing would give me more pleasure than to see him attack you!"

Fabricio, on his way to get Flor's treats, is talking to Al on his cell phone when he is struck on the head by thugs. It is Guapo and a couple of his bozos. These guys are so lame that when they grab the unconscious Faby to drag him to the truck one of them pulls off Fab's shoe and almost falls over backwards. Then he throws the shoe off to the side which will be future evidence of course. Then they scratch their heads and stand around trying to figure out how to get his limp body into the truck.

After the commercial break they are still sitting in the truck. In the midst of kidnapping a full-grown man they have nothing better to do than sit around looking at Fabricio's cell phone, giggling at it ringing and saying "hmmmm...it's Alejandro Luque." Losers.

Bertha is having a morbid fantasy where Lucas attacks Miranda. Blood is spattered all over Miranda and the wall behind her. As she slides down the wall in a slump Lucas licks his bloody chops and Bertha looks like she's about to have an orgasm. No, really. She opens her eyes and Miranda is there, still in one piece. Miranda tells Bertha if Lucas attacks her then Bertha will go to jail. Bertha says no, if Lucas attacks Miranda then he will kill her. "Like he killed Tomasa?" asks Miranda. Then we get to see the Tomasa "no Lucas no no no no no" scene again.

Bertha accuses Miranda of turning Florencia and the rest of the family against her. She goes all "I gave my life for you three girls, took care of you during your formative years and never once hurt or injured you." I guess she's not counting the mental anguish, kicking their mom out and the copious lies. "Florencia would have died years earlier had I not taken her to the doctors." Again, not counting subverting the meds and murdering said doctors. Eventually Pamela shows up and needs to take Miranda's car to pick up her mom. She and Miranda will meet later. Bertha wants to show Miranda something in the library.

Juan and Renata have just made love and are saying sweet things to each other. He sings to her and while they laugh in bed Carola sobs alone in the churchyard. She asks God why Juan has to love Renata instead of her. Padre Santiago sees her and is happy at the return of the prodigal son. I know she's a girl but he said son. She tells him her tale of woe and Santiago, recognizing an easy mark, invites her to mass.

Nuria tells Fernanda that she always thought her parents died and that Bertha was her godmother, but she just found out that Bertha is her mom. Fernanda asks Nuria if she really believes this.

Alejandro, in Flor's room, is still unable to reach Fabricio's phone. Flor tells him she wants him to make up with Miranda. Then she wonders about her biological father, did he know about her? Al says certainly not. Gonzalo is like a true father to her but Alfredo Luque was also a great man. Flor asks if Gonzalo didn't shoot Alfredo then who did? Tia Bertha? Alejandro thinks so. Flor says she remembers "that night" but it was dark and stormy. Al keeps trying to reach Fabricio's cellular.

Guapo and his thugs have dragged a bound, blindfolded and bloody Fabricio to a filthy hideout. Faby demands to know who and why. El Guapo tells him to listen up...rule #1 is that he hates people who ask stupid questions, rule #2 is that Fabricio will speak only when spoken to and he will tell them exactly what they want to know. Every time he breaks a rule he'll get punished. El Guapo punches him in the huevos as a demonstration. Then he punches him some more. Maybe Fabricio is the guajalote.

We must be in some alternate universe because Bertha is pouring a couple of brandies and Miranda is flipping through a photo album reminiscing about childhood trips to Disneyland and Paris. Bertha tells Miranda that the photos are proof of how she dedicated her life to the girls and how much fun they always had together. Does Miranda see any sadness and tears in these photos? (Well no, because who takes pictures of sadness and tears? But I digress.) For some reason Miranda seems to be buying this gigantic load of bull.

Nuria is sobbing in Fernanda's office. She says she loves Bertha (what?), says she doesn't care if she's godmother or mother, Bertha is all she's had in her life. (Didn't she have the sadistic nuns in addition to the abusive Bertha?) Fern thought bubbles that this probably isn't a good time to tell Nuria the truth. Nuria mention's Bertha's grave heart condition. Fern is surprised at this tall tale but pretends she knows. She calms Nuria but ushers her out of the office pronto so that she can scowl about Bertha's lies.

After the lovemaking Juan is asleep and Renata is all hyper. Typical. Francisco and Amparo arrive home and tell Renata how happy they are to have her in the house. Francisco says it's like having a daughter and he has a surprise for her, it's a cheap hideous doll! However Renata is thrilled and says for the first time she really feels like she's part of a family. Francisco asks Renata wouldn't she like to call Fernanda mama? Renata doesn't know. She cries that she can't forget that she was left alone and until now never knew what it was like to be sung to sleep.

Pamela has come to the church to pick up Andrea. Fermin shows up and offers his condolences. Pamela cries that it's horrible that he had to sacrifice himself so that nobody would do damage to them. By the way, he left a letter for Fermin and she'll bring it to him later on at the bank.

Francisco and Amparo encourage Renata to give Fernanda a chance. Renata says part of her wants to be in Fernanda's arms and another part loathes her. She can't forget all those years as an orphan (huh? what about dad and her sisters?) Anyway, her mom abandoned her, she heard a bunch of lies and she doesn't know what to believe.

Fernanda is happy that Alejandro and Flor have bonded. He says his dad would be happy. The phone rings and it's Luciano. Alejandro tells him to try to get more information out of Lasagna; probably about who is beating her up. I hope she spills the beans. Fern wants Al to make up with Miranda. Alejandro is starting to go crazy worrying about Fabricio.

Bertha cries crocodile tears and tells Miranda she's sorry for her role in Flor and Fabricio's relationship. She had no idea that the Fernanda/Bertha saga would repeat itself with Miranda and Florencia. She asks Miranda, "What was my crime?!?" What about being a big fat liar for starters, oh yeah, and that serial killer thing that spans decades, and the child abuse? But before Miranda can answer her phone rings. It's Fabricio and he tells her that he has been kidnapped. She cries "but how, where are you? Please tell me!" Bertha tries to look impactada but we know darn well she really wants to look orgasmica.

La Fea Más Bella #140 11/7/06 A little bit of celos can go a long way

We get a repeat of the quotation marks and highlighter abuse. Lety excuses herself to go to her office to look over some documents about upcoming meetings.

Lola talks to Marcia about the betrayl of her husband. Marcia says she understands; she can’t believe that Lola’s husband wants half of everything. Lety calls and Marcia asks if she has the clients’ appointments ready. Marcia proclaims that she’s coordinating the meetings and hangs up. Marcia tells Lola it’s okay that she went to see the lawyer that morning. Lola thanks her and walks out of the office.

Sara and Juana comfort Lola. Alicia comes over and asks Lola if Lopez gave her (Lola) permission to come late. Lola says that if Alicia has a problem with it then she needs to talk to her boss, Lety. Alicia sarcastically says she’s trembling with fear. Sara adds her insults. Lola leaves the floor while Sara and Juana continue to argue with Alicia. Sara hits the mark when she starts to talk about Alicia’s repossessed Mercedes. As usual, Alicia looks insulted and then leaves, but not before she gets to answer back. She tells them that she can get her car when ever she wants, blah, blah, blah. She can get another one, a better one. Uh-hu, yeah Alicia; sure you will, and I bet those chiches won’t melt if you light a match under them either. She walks back over to her desk and decides to call Tomas.

Tomas is driving down the street in his not-a-Mercedes Mercedes. The camera makes love to the car. Tomas talks about taking Alicia to the ocean in that car. Shocker! At that moment his cellular rings. Geez, I wonder who it could be? Alicia is calling from the bathroom. She asks Tomas if he remembers her. He slams on the breaks and then starts talking and giggling in his weird voice. Tomas asks for a moment. He very considerately pulls his car over to talk on his phone. He tells her that he’s pulling over his Mercedes, it’s very big so that’s difficult to do. She understands. She has…had one too. She lectures him for not calling. Alicia asks if Tomas wants to go out for coffee or some drinks. She’s missed him a whole, whole lot. She asks if Tomas forgot to call her. No, he tells her I was going to call you when I got to the office. She asks when they can see each other; when will Tomas have time. Tomas states that he has some important meetings tonight but they should get together tomorrow. Alicia pretends not to understand. She whines that she’s bothering him. No, no! Let me think. After looking at his very empty planner, he tells her that their only option is tomorrow. She needs to tell him where and when to pick her up. She complains that she’s all made up and it’s a shame that he’s leaving her alone. Oh well, he can pick her up at her apartment. She demands that Lety does not find out about their date. “Lety!” he exclaims.

Julieta tells Erasmo that she cannot get through to Tomas. Erasmo is upset because he needs Tomas’s help with the car. Julieta tells him that she’ll help him. Erasmo doesn’t want her help because she knows nothing about cars. Julieta stays optimistic and says that she can learn.

Tomas continues to talk on the phone with Alicia. She thought he hung up on her. No, he tells her; he was thinking about what she said about Lety. He too doesn’t want Lety to find out about their date. “She would kill me,” he asides. Alicia says she can’t imagine the problems it would create in the office. Alicia tells Tomas that their dinner tomorrow will be a friendly dinner to talk about business. He buys it hook, line and sinker. Tomas asks Alicia for directions to her apartment. She loves it when he points out how nice her neighborhood is. Tomas lies and says that he has many friends who live there. She tells him to pick her up at nine o’clock. He promises to be on time. Tomas goes into serious scary stalker behavior and talks to Alicia’s photo.

Erasmo and Julieta work on the family car. Moty gets in the way, and this causes the car to start smoking by pushing the pedals. Julieta ineffectively fusses with the dog. Erasmo decides that there is no doubt that women should not work on cars. Where is Tomas!!!??? He throws down his rag in frustration.

Martha eyes Alicia’s candy. She walks over to Sara, but the candy keeps calling. She grabs a white chocolate treat. Marcia is about to put it into her mouth, but Alicia catches her. Alicia demands that Marcia return the chocolate. Martha begs for Alicia to let her have it. Juana and Sara press Martha to return it. oooohhh! Cat fight!

Erasmo accuses Julieta of causing the problems with the car. She says that it’s only a little problem. Erasmo thinks about how much money it will cost to fix the car. Julieta says that it’s time they buy a new car. Erasmo is incredulous. The car smokes some more.

The cat fight continues until Martha passes out. Alicia gives Martha the chocolate. Marcia runs in and tells someone to go get Martha water. Marcia tells Martha that she needs to see a doctor. This diet of hers is killing her. Alicia is incapable of being so kind. Marcia pulls Alicia aside and asks if she was fighting with the cuartel. Alicia basically says they started it. Marcia can not believe that Alicia is smiling about Martha being sick. Alicia says she’s smiling for another reason, but she cannot tell Marcia what it is. Juana runs in with some water for Marcia.

Erasmo complains to Julieta that he does not want to buy a new car. She makes a joke about cars like theirs being only in museums At that moment, Tomas drives up in his Mercedes. He flips down the top for effect. Erasmo asks him if he’s a chauffeur for someone famous. Nope, this is the new car for the manager of Filmo Imagen!

Fernando comes in to Lety’s office. He has some paperwork about the Sportwin commercial and for the trip to Germany. She asks him to put it on her desk and then returns to her work. Fernando offers to take her home tonight. That’s okay, Tomas will take her home. Marcia calls him, incessantly. Fernando replies that he’s coming. Fernando asks why Tomas is coming for her. Well, Lety just wants to be careful now that Doña Marcia is back. Marcia comes in for Fernando. He stomps his foot and leaves.

Erasmo makes fun of Tomas’s driving skills. Tomas literally falls out of the car. He tells Erasmo that he bought the car from a dealership with Filmo Imagen’s money. Erasmo says that money belongs to Fernando.

PM asks Martha if she feels better. Martha is only worried that whatever she eats will make her more fat. Martha’s daughter and husband run in. They’re going to take her to the doctor. Paco thanks PM for taking care of Martha. The family leaves.

Erasmo asks if Fernando authorized the purchase of the automobile or if he even knows about it. Tomas says he doesn’t know, but he Fernando will find out today. Erasmo gets into the driver seat. Tomas tries to kick him out, but Erasmo is entranced. Julieta and Moty gets into the passenger seat. Erasmo points out that the car has a television. Tomas wants to leave.

The brass are in a meeting about the Sportwin commercial. Lety goes over the costs of the Sportwin commercial. Fernando and Omar agree that Lety’s analysis is correct. Fernando asks her what cost the most. Lety says a lot of money was requested by Luigi. Of course, Luigi exclaims! He goes on about his position and about Lety. He’s not going to allow her to question him and his activities! Fernando starts to defend her, but Lety says there’s no need. Luigi is fine, he’s always nice. This stumps both of the men.

Tomas pulls up to Conceptos in his Mercedes. Unfortunately, he runs into and not over Jasmin. He asks her if she knows Lety. Jasmin volunteers to call Lety for him. Nope, he’ll call on his cellular. Jasmin giggles. Lety doesn’t answer.

Lety and Fernando enter her office. She wants to talk business. He stalls. Why wouldn’t she allow him to defend her in front of Luigi? She doesn’t want him to be obliged to do defend her. It’s just not a good idea.

Tomas and Jasmin talk about…Jasmin. She’s Conceptos’ test model. She asks if Tomas is Lety’s friend. No, he tells her. He’s her boyfriend. She didn’t know that Lety had such an elegant boyfriend. Tomas tries to downplay his relationship. Jasmin pardons herself, but not before sucking on Tomas’s face a little. Tomas gives her his card. Jasmin gets excited and asks if he works in production. They discuss the possibility of her becoming a model for Filmo Imagen. Jasmin offers to give him her cell phone number. She even enters it herself. She asks if she can get into the car. She’s cold. Um, it’s a convertible. Tomas opens the passenger side, but she gets into the driver’s side. He admires her assets while she admires the car.

Fernando asks Lety to call Tomas and tell him that Fernando will take her home. Marcia calls out for him again. Fernando leaves to talk to her. Marcia tells Fernando that there is still some business to look to with Bellalife. Afterwards, she wants him to come over to her house. She asks if he has another thing to do. No, he tells her. Good thing he doesn’t have to take Lety home anymore. Lety now has a rich boyfriend to take her home in his car. Marcia points out that Tomas has the latest model, expensive Mercedes. Lety leaves her office and tells Fernando that she’s going home. She also says good-bye to Marcia. Marcia scrunches her face. This must be her substitute for blinking. Fernando watches Lety leave. Marcia asks Fernando what’s wrong. She leaves and blows him a kiss. Nothing, but he forgot to ask Lety something. Marcia blows him a kiss and leaves. He imitates her and rolls his eyes.

Jasmin goes on about the car. Juana points her out to the cuartel. Sara takes off for Jasmin who wisely decides it’s time to get out of the car. She tells Tomas not to forget to call. Sara and Lola confront Jasmin for her behavior with Lety’s boyfriend. Jasmin plays dumb. Her Flaquito drives up and sees everyone arguing.

Omar and Fernando talk about their new dilemma. Fernando spies Lety out of the corner of his eye. He asks what she’s doing still there. Nothing, Tomas hasn’t arrived yet but she’s leaving right now. Fernando pulls Omar toward his office.

Efren urges Jasmin to hurry up and leave. Lola comes over and beats the hood of the car. He tells her that they can talk another time. Lola snaps. She tries to pull Efren out of the car. She fails, but Sara succeeds. PM yells in his face. Sara holds him so that Lola can yell at him. They argue about Efren wanting half of everything. She makes fun of his car. Efren slips and says that he won’t throw Lola out of the house but she will have to pay rent to him. Sara discards him. Efren starts to confront her. Sara pets him and then head-butts him. He passes out on the hood of the car. Jasmin accuses the cuartel of killing her Flaquito. He wakes up and they scurry off into the night with Efren crying in his best girl voice the whole time. Tomas can’t figure any of this out.

Tomas tells Lety about what happened. Lety runs over to the cuartel to check on Lola. She tells Tomas that she’s waiting for “someone” to leave the office. Lety asks Lola if she wants a ride to her house. Lola says no thank you. The cuartel asks Lety to introduce them to her boyfriend, but she only offers excuses. Juana tells Lety that Tomas was making nice with Jasmin. Lety turns around to look at Tomas and puts him in check with one look.

Fernando and Omar walk out of the office. Omar calls Lety a gargoyle. Fernando gets upset. They leave.

Lety leaves the cuartel and walks over to Tomas. She asks for his cellular. He doesn’t want to let her. She finds Jasmin’s number in there. Fernando and Omar walk out. She demands that Tomas opens the door. He does and takes her bag. Then he walks her over to the passenger side and helps her in. They fake laugh and he jogs over to his side. The whole time Fernando does his best impression of Omar’s mental constipation look.

The two men run back into Conceptos. Fernando wants to know where in the world did Tomas get the money to buy that car! Fernando, being paranoid (for good reason), thinks that they planned this. After Omar asks some “insightful” questions, Fernando goes back to the car. It’s worth 90,000 dollars! Ever perceptive Omar points out that they would need money from a company like Conceptos. Or from Filmo Imagen! Fernando points out.

Will Fernando confront Tomas and Lety?
Can Tomas keep a secret about his date with Alicia?

Have a great night, everyone!

La Fea Más Bella #139 11/6/06 The one where EVERYBODY TALKS LOUDLY

Fernando and Omar are in the conference room, and Lety is in her office listening in. Fernando tells Omar that his date with Lety was caught short because Tomas came to pick her up at Yuri’s shindig. Omar mocks Fern because Lety chose Tomas “el nerd” instead of a night of crazy passionate animal love with Fern . Omar makes growling noises (must be another nod to Mundo de Fieras). Fern is still mad that she actually left with Tomas. Fern rolls his eyes, slams an office chair, and generally acts like a jealous man in love. Omar thinks it’s a bad sign. He advises Fern that he better not wait too long to spend some quality time with Lety. He should take the little vampire out for a good time ASAP. Lety is disgusted. They wonder some more about why Lety is acting weird. Fern mentions his promise to Lety to break his engagement with Marcia. Aha! Omar decides that must be why Lety is being weird. She must be doubting whether Fern will really break it off! He thinks he’s soooo smart. Fern tells Omar he’s wrong; Fern already discussed that with Lety and she was very understanding. In any case, Fern says he needs help writing a card for Lety, something really good. He can’t keep giving Lety sappy cards, she deserves better, something profound. Profound? Omar doesn’t get it. He helps him write another sappy card.

Lety’s phone rings and Lety answers brusquely. It’s Tomas. He says Filmo Imagen just got the approval for a bank loan that Conceptos needs. Lety asks him to transfer the funds to Coceptos right away. She also says she got Fernando to sign another promissory note (pagare), just in case the weasels find a way for the first documents (that give her ownership of Conseptos) to disappear. That must have been what Lety had Fern sign the day before when she was hounding him for a Carvajallmark card… very sneaky! Tomas says he is at a car dealership. He found a car he likes – of course he did, the lot is full of flashy and super expensive looking convertibles. He needs her to come down to authorize the car loan. Lety agrees to come by during her lunch break.

Marcia and Alicia talk about Tomas. They call him a naco (low-class) with money. Alicia tells Marcia that Lety was crying over him in the bathroom the other day, so their relationship must be in trouble. Marcia wonders what Alicia is plotting. Alicia denies plotting anything but it’s obvious that she sees this as an opportunity to get a piece of the naco pie. To change the subject, she ask Marcia if she got her a gift from Germany. Marcia feigns ignorance but then hands over a bottle of perfume.

Omar leaves the conference room and Fernando reads the sappy card that Omar just wrote for him. He’s not impressed. He says that what he really needs to tell Lety is that he feels terrible, that every day the situation with Marcia feels worse, that the engagement ring was Omar the Embicile's doing, not his. (Where are you, Lety? This is the part where you should be eavesdropping!)

Alicia and Marcia walk back to the common area, and Alicia asks Marcia who the gift box she’s carrying is for. Marcia loudly exclaims that it’s an esclava (a manly bracelet) for Fern, as a thank you gift for HER ENGAGEMENT RING. The cuartel hear this (how could they not?) and are impressed. Alicia loudly thanks Marcia for getting her the EXPENSIVE PERFUME. As Alicia walks to her desk, she sees that her last piece of chocolate is missing. She is impactada! She squeals in terror and accuses the cuartel of taking it. They deny any connection to the tragic disappearance of her chocolate. They are offended at Alicia’s allegation. (Seriously, these people need to find something more time-worthy to argue about.) Meanwhile, in the powder room, Martha is ogling Alicia’s chocolate. She talks to it and plays with it. She puts it up to the mirror so she can look at it twice as much. It’s sort of creepy. Alicia and the cuartel continue to argue as Martha walks back in, licking her lips.

Marcia goes into Fern’s office to bring him the present. Fern feigns excitement to see her. He pretends he likes the manly esclava, “Ah Caray!” She loudly thanks him for her ENGAGEMENT RING, and Lety overhears. Marcia is feeling frisky. She says she wants him NOW, but Fern says she needs to calm down, because Lety is in the next room. Marcia gets ticked off and says someday she’ll get used to the idea that wherever Fern is, Lety will always be there too. Lety, listening in, is ticked off too.

Carolina brings Lety a candle. Caro lights it and tells Lety that fire purifies (a nod to Doña Jacinta at Barreras De Amor). Caro says Lety should always light the candle with a purpose in mind. "Like what?" Caro explains that, for example, as she lit the candle just now, she hoped that it will help Lety purify her body of all the negativity she is feeling, and she also thought about the person who Lety is mad at. She gives Lety a quick lesson on karma. Caro tells Lety to always keep the candle lit. As soon as Caro leaves, Lety blows out the candle.

Jasmin and Lola have another confrontation. Lola says that Efren was never interested in her house until Jasmin showed up. Jasmin pretends to be hurt. Irma is nearby and tells Jasmin not to play dumb, they know what she’s up to. As Jasmin tries to walk away, Lola accidentally-on-purpose bumps a package that Jasmin is holding. The package breaks open. It’s a plaque that says “Welcome To Our New Home… Efren y Jasmin.” Lola is impactada. Jasmin tells Lola that she better pay for the plaque because it was a gift for Efren. Lola says she’ll be happy to pay for it, but she’s going to keep the plaque so she can finish breaking it… over Efren’s head! Jasmin says “Uh, nevermind” and scampers off.

Fernando brings Lety a card and a box of chocolates. Lety admires Fern’s new manly esclava, and asks if Marcia got it for him. Fern nervously says that she did, but it’s just a souvenir, and that she probably got it at the airport. Lety thought bubbles “Yeah right, a souvenir in exchange for the engagement ring.” Fernando hastely leaves. Lety reads the card. It says that he’s troubled because she is not acting herself, that his body misses her (this sounded much better in Spanish). Lety wants to believe what’s in the card, but remembers hearing Fern asking Omar for help writing it.

Lety goes through Fern’s office on her way to lunch. She says “Thanks for the chocolate, it was… rancid!” (Good one!) Fern looks crushed. Lety says she’s just kidding, the chocolate was fine. Omar walks in. Lety is just cold enough to him to make them wonder if she’s doing it on purpose. Lety walks out.

The cuartel invites Lety to lunch, but she tells them she can’t. When she realizes Fern and Omar are listening, she tells the cuartel that it’s because SHE IS HAVING LUNCH WITH HER BOYFRIEND, and that he told her he has a surprise for her. Omar and Fern (1) are impactados, and (2) wonder what the surprise could be. Omar asks if Fern gave Lety her card. Fern says he did, and that he had to write it himself, because Omar’s writing stinks. They argue like 8-year olds. Omar says Fernando can do his own writing from now on, he won’t be Fernando’s Cyrano de Bergerac anymore. He calls Fernando “Neruda” and “Shakespear” and tells Fern he better take Lety on a hot date immediately! Fern agrees but says it’s not so easy with Marcia around.

Lety arrives at dealership. She realizes there’s nothing but luxury autos there and tells Tomas he’s crazy. Tomas demonstrates for Lety how cool he looks sitting in a sleek convertible talking on the cell phone in his radio announcer voice. Lety asks how much it costs. “Oh, it’s just a million pesos, about 90,000 dollars.”

Omar theorizes that Tomas must be trying to seduce “la fea.” Fernando clenches his teeth and says Lety is NOT UGLY. Omar suspects that Fern must really be jealous.

Tomas tries to convince Lety to buy the million-peso car. Lety says that while technically, they can afford it, she’s just not comfortable buying something so classy. Tomas says that in that case, they should just go on and live their lives as busy little worker bees, letting someone else enjoy the good life (or something like that). He gets Lety to touch the car, then to sit in it. “A car like this makes us better-looking. Guys will be lining up for you .” Lety finally agrees to buy the car. Tomas is ecstatic.

Lety and Tomas drive up to Conceptos in their new car. The cuartel, Saimon, Alicia and Marcia are all outside coming back from lunch. They are all impressed by the car. Lety loudly thanks Tomas and calls him MI AMOR. Tomas loudly calls Lety MI VIDA.

As he gets in the car, he calls out “Ciao” to Alicia and then drives away. Alicia explains to Marcia that the guy is Lety’s boyfriend. The cuartel ask Lety why she didn’t introduce Tomas to them. Alicia tells Lety her boyfriend must be a chauffeur. Lety, who is not in the mood for this, replies that, no, he is not a chauffeur; no, he did not win the car in a raffle; no, he did not get it from an ex-husband; and oh yeah, nobody will be showing up to tow his car anytime, because he actually works for his stuff. The cuartel cackle in delight. Alicia says she won’t reduce herself to their level by responding to them.

In Fern’s office, Fern, Marcia, and Omar are talking business. They need Lety to draw up some paperwork. Fern calls for Lety. Marcia says Lety is not in her office, she’s outside showing off he boyfriend and her car to her friends. Fernando is incensed! He goes outside to look for her. He sternly tells her to come inside, because they lots of work to do. The cuartel comment that Lety always has to fix all of Fernando’s problems.

Alicia is wallowing in self-pity. She tells Marcia about how the cuartel taunts her because they repo’ed her car from the Conceptos lot. Marcia tells her not to worry about it, that it’s just silly office gossip, and that Alicia should not bring herself to their level. Marcia leaves and Alicia thinks aloud that Marcia is right; that she is not at their level. She has even less then them, because she doesn’t have a car or a boyfriend, she is lower then them. Awwwwh, poor Alicia... NOT!
Fernando is in his office when Lety walks in. He points out that she did not immediately rush back up as he asked her to. Woops, sorry, she says (though not very sincerely). Fern asks if she had lunch with Tomas. She says she did. He is at his desk trying to stay calm but he is acting very hostile toward his highlighters. He asks why she was showing off her “BOYFRIEND” to her friends. He makes harsh quote marks with his fingers in the air. I thought the veins in his neck would burst! She points out that it was his idea for her to say that Tomas is her boyfriend. Besides, she says, you look so happy with Marcia, what with ENGAGEMENT RING and all. Fernando is impactado. He stutters, “I didn’t want you to...” and Lety finishes his sentence “to find out that you got her a ring?” She says that she’s fine with it. After all, he needs to keep the relationship with Marcia in order to keep Ariel from dissolving the company, etc, etc.… Fern changes the subject. He needs Lety to put together some paperwork, and he wants to make sure the fake documents are perfect for the upcoming board meeting. Lety smiles the most evil smile that ever was smiled.

(I’ll begin with the new scenes after Carola comes to warn Renata not to make Fernanda cry again, and after a shot and bleeding El Magnate finds out from the government SWAT team that the head honchos of the narco-trafficking mobsters are all in police custody.)

El Magnate dies peacefully with a look of relief on his face in the arms of the real government agent.

Cesar is now ordering even Bertha around in his apartment. She scoffs at him and says, no he’d better listen to her first as she has important news for him. He says he’s all ears and she asks him if he knows any reason Gonzalo would know enough to go to London. Cesar is surprised as heck to hear about this.

Alejandro is discussing Leonardo on the phone with Luciano when Lizania finally appears in the hallway asking where her mother went so early in the morning. Alejandro looks at his sister and suddenly realizes she’s wearing those ugly sunglasses for a reason and it isn’t the so-called migraine she’s complained about.

Cesar says Gonzalo has no reason at all to know about his activities in London and he says somewhat menacingly that he hopes she had nothing to do with it. Bertha tells him she’s not that stupid. So he asks her to get hold of Luis Alberto and have him meet him at the usual restaurant but she tells him she’s not his secretary. He goes off half-cocked and warns her not to get him crazy, and spits at her that he said it was “a favor, a favor!” She actually gives in and goes to make the call. In the meantime he calls Daira back a second time and asks her again not to tell Alejandro that he called about Lizania or told her anything about it. She promises to be discreet and asks to meet the girls that saw Lizania like this. He agrees to arrange a meeting with them. She hangs up and tells Santiago what Cesar had called about and that she was going finally to talk to some girls who realized Lizania’s problem and had told Cesar.

Alejandro takes off Lizania’s glasses and is shocked to see how bad the bruises are, and immediately wants to know who did it to her. Lizania starts crying, but she refuses to tell him, says it was an accident, just games – “What kind of games are you playing?” It finally comes out that she actually enjoys it, which just floors Alejandro. She still refuses to tell him who beat her because she’s afraid her brother will send somebody to beat him up or go himself and beat him up. (Talk about your “twisted sister”.....) He tells her that she and Daira are leaving in another day for Italy. She doesn’t put up an argument. (I guess she needs a break – I mean a rest.)

Gabino, Arcadia and Nati are cleaning out the pool area when he says he plans to tell Miranda that all the hacienda owners around except her and the Manglars’ are eager to sell out. He calls Miranda and she says to use the fact that he’s well known and a trusted employee to get them to come to a meeting with Miranda there.

Cesar insults Bertha again and broadly hints about “her daughter”, then tries to blackmail her. Sansone comes by and tells him that Nuria hasn’t been heard from. Cesar tells him to return to her apartment and get out of her who she was with and where she went. He has orders to beat her if need be. Sansone leaves and Bertha asks how he knows about Nuria but he says it’s enough that he knows. Bertha tells Cesar to back off or she’ll let people know he’s the father of Nuria’s baby and then walks out. For whatever reason Cesar doesn’t up the ante before Bertha goes.

Fabricio finally works up the nerve and tells Florencia how and why Veronica has been blackmailing him. Florencia says she loves him and forgives him but never wants the girl around them ever again. He leaves to get her some treat she’s craving.

Pamela and her mother read El Magnate’s final letter to them and cry over his self-sacrifice. They lament the fact they'll never know his name.

Renata invites Veronica over to Juan’s to warn her against blackmailing Fabricio anymore. Veronica has a great laugh at Renata’s expense over Renata’s “new reality” and standard of living. Veronica eventually breaks down and cries about her rotten situation with her illness and her rage. Renata tries to console her and tells her destruction of one’s self or of others is not the answer.

Alejandro brings Pamela to see Miranda and when she finds out he’s there the two argue about everything and nothing. He asks her when will she allow him to speak to her and she says perhaps never. He tells her how fussy and demanding she always is (You said it, Ale!) and she answers that it takes one to know one. (This masochistic thing obviously runs in the family. --Enough already, Alejandro! This woman has been nothing but rude, mean, arrogant and demanding from the moment you met. Where's your sense of self-respect.)

He turns to leave and Miranda stops him long enough to warn him that if he goes to visit Florencia she now knows they are brother and sister. He is bewildered by this news and asks why she didn’t seem to realize she was risking her life. Miranda says because just like her she was tired of lies and half truths. He leaves in disgust to see Florencia. Pamela suggests Miranda go after him and tell him she loves him, but Miranda just swats away that idea saying there’s no reason to. Pamela tells her after that it was Luciano who, on Leonardo's orders, took the proof of the mob's activities to the police and saved her and her mother and her father's money.

Florencia and Fernanda are chatting in the hospital room and Bertha rushes in. Florencia tells her to leave, that she isn’t wanted there. Bertha wonders what’s going on and why she’s so mean. Florencia tells her she remembers everything from that fateful night and what she and her father both were saying to each other. Bertha tries to shock her by telling her that Fernanda is her mother. Florencia says she knows and that she’s extremely happy to have her for a mother.

Then Bertha tries to shock her again by telling her that Gonzalo isn’t her real father and that she’s Alejandro’s sister. Florencia shoots back that she knows all that too, so get out and don’t come back. Bertha attempts the “how do you dare to judge me when I cared for your needs and raised you as my own” speech. “All I ever did was to do exactly as you wanted.” When that doesn’t work she blames Fernanda and starts hitting her. Juan finally comes running in and pulls Bertha off Fernanda. Bertha, finally speechless, screams her frustrations like a wild animal, and she runs out of the room.

Renata is still trying to console Veronica, but in the end Veronica tells her that she has no idea where she’s going to find money for her treatments next month and if she knew something about Renata she would definitely blackmail her as well. Renata tells her to get out of her house then, and Veronica has the last laugh telling her, “I wouldn’t call this place a house! It’s a pigsty!” Then she stomps out.

Luis Alberto and Nuria are eating lunch together and she explains that she had to cancel their meeting last night because she was so tired. He wipes away all of her tears and tells her she can count on him and that she knows he loves her. He would be a loving father to her baby. She thanks him and says no because she loves Cesar and is married. Then she tells him how Roman found out about her being registered as Bertha’s daughter and got copies of the documents. She says Bertha always told her that her parents had died and had her put in charge of her as a foster mother. Luis wants her to talk to Bertha and to get the truth but Nuria is afraid to confront her. The whole idea of really having Bertha as her real mother is frightening to her.

Bertha goes straight to the convent and is angry to find out that the Mother Superior gave Fernanda the copies of the entire file. The nun says the files are open to anybody who wants information. Bertha warns the nun that since she turned against her there will be consequences. The nun has things to hide also. She knows enough to worry once Bertha leaves.

Alejandro visits Florencia and she greets him as her brother. They all say they’re relieved not to have to walk on eggshells about all these things now. Florencia wonders where Daira and Lizania are. He explains Lizania is going through a bad spell and is about to leave to return to Italy. “In fact,” he explains, “she’s hooked on a masochistic relationship and you’d be shocked at the beating this guy gave her!” (Why send her to Italy? Ship her off to a psychiatric hospital somewhere for treatment!)

Once Bertha gets back home, she tells Lucas that she has to rest and think things through. She tells herself, “I never lose.” She calls up El Guapo and tells him to meet her. Then she lays down and takes a nap (What an image: two vicious dogs together.)

Arcadia asks if Gabino is going to ever tell Miranda about killing her horse, Chocolate. "Miranda won’t like it a bit, not to mention that it was an order of Bertha’s," she adds. Gabino figures he’s got no choice but to tell Miranda the truth. The two discuss the likelihood of Bertha returning. Arcadia suggests they ask Nati. Nati looks into the water of the pool and tells them that Bertha will be coming back and she will bring misfortune and death.
