Teresa Mon 9/26/11 #146 From Perp Walk to Jailhouse Squawk As Teresa Repays The Favor

Viewerville races to take their seats in front of the screen once more as this fishtale starts to wind down towards its inevitable fin. (Sob.)  Esperanza is holding her own pretty well against Ruben, having stood firm against going with him anywhere until he hands over Rodrigo like he’s promised.  [Skin crawl alert!] She even lets The Fur Lipped One plant a major liplock on her, leading him on this time, by making him believe that she’ll abandon everything and everyone to be with him once he brings back her son to her. (At least, Viewerville is certain that’s the plan.)  Mama, Papagote, and Rodriguitote makes three.  Togther they’ll all be one big happy family, Rube croons to “the love of his life”.

Across town, at Casota de La Sra. de la Barrera, aka La Tiburoncita Esa, Teresa is clutching Arturo Bear and looking at herself determinedly in the mirror.  She’s repeating her self-control mantra.  She tells herself that she must maintain control over her feelings for Arturo so that Fernando never realizes how much she really loves the golden haired doofus de verdad.  She’s dying to see him and to be with him!

Later that evening at the vecindad, Rufugio and Juana are in casatita Chavez discussing whether Teresa told them the truth or not about why she’s getting divorced.  Ref is eager to speak with her SIL cuz she is certain Tere is pulling the same nonsense on him that she did on Mariano and for the same pathetic moneygrubbing reasons.  Juana takes up for Tere and says there’s no reason for her to lie to them. If she says Fernando left Luisa because he fell in love with Tere but that she only sees him as a friend, then that’s the way it is. (Viewerville shares a major communal eye-roll here.)

Teresa is now in her slip and brushing her locks in front of her bedroom mirror when in walks Fernando without knocking.  (I liked him better when he wasn’t so presumptuous.)  Tere acts a bit surprised to see him back again.  He couldn’t stay away, he tells her, because all he could think of was her and wanting to make her his.  Nando walks her over to the bed, lays her down, and attempts to seduce her uhhhh-gainnnn.  (Hey, I’m game!)

Back at casatita Chavez, Juana and Refu agree that if Art was still drinking hard and heavy, or running around with his sexratary, then of course she should divorce him.  On the other hand, says Refu, she knows her daughter’s material girl M.O. and she wouldn’t put it past her.  Juana promises to have a chat with both Teresa and Arturo to get both sides of the story, but in the meantime, Refu has got to stop worrying about it for the good of her health.

Back in the boudoire, Tere allows an appropriate amount of lip-locking before breaking away and sitting up on the bed.  “--Nooooo!”  She whimpers and whines to Nando that she can’t go back on her promise to her dearly departed daddy!!  They aren’t married and she has still not gotten her divorce!  She could never live with herself if she broke her promise to Papito!  Besides, he’s barely in the ground!  How could she think about a frolic with Fer so soon??  Fernanderthal, who’s gills are turning blue, is properly chastened by The Chaste One who says she wants there to be no reason for his mother or anyone to accuse her of loose behavior.  He apologizes for his libidinous desires.  She tells him that she has those same desires, but she has to remain strong for the both of them—or whatever.  Fer promises not to pressure her any more.  She hugs him appreciatively and simultaneously rolls her eyes at the wall behind his back.  (Yes, it’s getting to be a pain, a real sacrifice, for her having to drag this out this way.)  As for our Diamond Jim, he’s still biting at the bit and hot to trot, but he manages to contain himself and to race out of the room before he loses total control and ravages his damsel in dis-dress.  Once he’s gone, Tere, fights back tears of revulsion.  (Sorry.  I must pause here and take a moment to finally put on my beanie.  If Fernando weren’t a hunk like Daniel Arenas, I might be better able to appreciate Teresa’s supposed revulsion at the thought of any impending roll in the hay with the guy.)

At the same time, Refugio talks to the picture of Armando and cries at the little shrine on the living room floor (must be a cultural thing??), hoping that somehow from Heaven Armie could intervene and keep Tere from committing another sinfully self-serving materialistic act. (Viewerville must have missed the twinkle from on high signifying Armie got the message.)  FF>>

At supper, Cutberto is again a gossiping fool.  He mentions to Juana along the way that he thinks Teresa’s doing the right thing getting a divorce, because he witnessed with his own eyes that Arturo’s been living with another woman! Juana calls Art a hypocrite [mustio] between servings of salsa and frijoles.  FF>>

Speaking of Art, he and Lucia are at a restaurant this evening to celebrate another good day at work.  She mentions she knows Art’s still worried about Teresa.  He says he can’t avoid it.  Lucia tells him he can always be frank with her especially if there’s something he doesn’t want to do. “--The best thing for a relationship to work is to have trust in one another.”  (I want to know who died and made her Dr. Laura?)  He admits to wanting to be alone in his room.  To cheer him up she suggests they just forget dinner and take home dessert to pig out --like they did when she used to sleep over [de pijamadas = sleepovers] at the house with Luisa.  (Spare me!  Not  exactly the kind of sleepover poor ol’ Art needs or wants, I’m sure.)

Aida has a chat with Papagote about his working for Genoveva and the strange way she’s nearly obsessing over the new baby not turning out like Paulo did.  They both agree it’s a bit creepy the way she even named the baby the same.  Then Ruben’s quick to put distance between him and “Genoveva’s baby”.   Aeeeda is suddenly sympathetic and asks if Papi’s gotten any word on “his” son yet.  Rube feigns concern and rubs his furrowed brow—in between tragos.

The next morning, Espe tells Hernan she’s no longer going to continue with their therapy sessions and calms her concerned hubby down with a breakfast hour boff.

At the same time, Teresa stops in for an unexpected morning chat-’n-spat with the Mouthy One.   Teresa smiles mischievously at Aeeeda and then asks why she felt the need to cause such a dust-up with Fernando about her at the club the other day?  Because, says Aeeeda, he needs to know how she’s deceiving him!!  Oh deception is it?  Oh, like her daddy deceived her mother—and not only with Esperanza!!  If she doesn’t believe her then ask her friend, says Teresa--the only and real reason Espe finally ended it with Aeeeeda’s diddling daddy was because she found him making love to Genoveva!!  Daddy’s Little Girl Aeeeda is suck-it-in-while-I-get-this-straight-no-puede-ser-impactada from the overwhelming shock!  Bulls eye!!  Teresa turns imperiously on her high-priced stilleto’s and starts to walk out.

Back at the Ledesma’s, Espe sends Hernan, with his masculinity once again in tact, off to work and feeling now that no, the wifey really does love him; and no, Espe didn’t just marry him to give her kid a name.  FF>>

Once again we beam back to Elite Estates and watch gleefully as Teresa smiles perversely at Aeeeda’s misery and confusion.  Tere’s just come by to let her know something about her doting Daddy, and of course, to see her suffer some more.  Why?  Because Aeeeda refuses to stop bothering her!! Aeeeda having regained her speech, starts screaming that she doesn’t believe Tere, but this time we all know that it’s more like she doesn’t want to admit she does believe it!  Aeeeda has had her doubts about Daddy (all thanks to Teresa de la Barrera Chavez) and she knows she has plenty of reason to.  Why come by there like this???  Teresa says she warned her not to mess with her!  Anyway, if she doesn’t believe her, well that’s her problem [alla tú].  Teresa struts out the door.  Aeeeda is left fighting back her tears.  (Remind me again why we should care?)

At Paradise Pads Highrise meanwhile, a couple of detectives come by looking for information about Fito.  They show the apartment manager Fito’s picture and he tells them about the fight Mariano and Fito had.  They head off to the hospital.

At the hospital, Juana stops by to speak to Aurora about her getting a surrogate mother so she and Buttberto can have mini-buttberties.  (Gawd! Perish the thought!  Call Pest Control!)  We get a PSA on artificial insemination.  Buttberto, meanwhile, has a secret breakfast meeting with Odious Oriana to ask her for another job.  He feels honor-bound to tell her, though, that he’s married now to Teresa’s godmother.  It would seem La Odiosa has just had a sudden attack of gastritis.  FF>>

Fernando is back at the Casota for another love seat mack session with Teresa.  He tells Tere that he wants to go with her when she and Art meet to discuss the divorce and sign the paperwork.  (Get real!!  Ever heard of a thing called privacy??) She insists that her godmother and/or her mother will be there with her. so he shouldn’t  have to worry for her.  Anyway, she doesn’t want the two of them fighting again.  He jealously asks if it’s really because she’s worried about Arturo.  She inisists that she’s worried about Fernando and not Art.  It’s also because if they start fighting again, then Art might be so angry that he’ll refuse to give her the quickie divorce he’s agreed to.  Fernando still insists on going with her.  Tere tells him that what’s more important is that things go smoothly so she can get her divorce fast and they won’t have to wait so long to finally get married.  (We’ll have to give Nando a buy cuz he’s currently only thinking with his lower brain.  Blood is no longer making it past his lower extremeties.)  A major mackin’ make-out session thus ensues and seems to pacifiy and satisfy.  (Love the way this broad reels him in and gives him a little more slack, then tightens the line again.  What a talent!  Team Teresa salutes you, girl!)

Back at the hospital, Aurora and Mariano make plans to go on vacation together for a month.  Aurora’s worried about making an enemy of Juana since she and Tere are no longer friends.  FF>>

Oriana comes to the Casota expecting to find her son there.  She finds only Teresa and after some well aimed barbs, threatens never to stop being a thorn in her side.  Teresa rubs La Odiosa’s nose in the fact that this house is hers again.  Her son has put the house in her name, or didn’t she know?

Back at TOHIMC (the only hospital in Mexico City), the homicide police arrive to arrest Mariano for Fito’s fatal (and less than spectacular) finish.  Mariano’s protest falls on deaf ears cuz as these detectives know, that’s what they all say. Mariano is forced to do the perp walk while Aurora looks on.

Odiosa says Tere must be pretty proud of herself now.  Of course, she has no idea what this house means to her husband, or the history behind it.  She’s certain she did this only to hurt Arturo and Luisa.  No, the house has many memories for Tere, too.  La Odiosa Orgullosa sniffs at that remark. Oh and this is why you insist that here is where you’ll live supposedly with the man you’re going to marry and who bought it for you?  No, says Teresa.  The memories are of her humiliating Teresa there.   She’ll be living there again, but this time as Fernando’s wife!   “—We’ll see about that!  Luisa may want to stay the heck away from you, but not me!"  Odiosa promises her to forever be a thorn in her side! ~~~~~

=============================
Part 2.

Aurora wants to notify Ramon, but Mar refuses and says he’ll handle it himself from the police station.  It’s obviously a mixup.

Odiosa tells Teresa that they’ll continue being enemies.  Teresa says that’s her lookout cuz the more Oriana rejects her, the more distant Fernando will be towards his mother.   Tere starts up the stairs and Oriana barks at her to get her son for her.  Teresa looks over her shoulder at her and snarls back before strutting upstairs.  “—Get him yourself!”

Aurora can’t get hold of Hector’s attorney because he’s on vacation.  Juana finds her in the hall and Aurora fills her in on what’s just happened.  She can’t think straight.

From the balcony of the Casota, Tere listens in as Reina informs Odiosa that Tere had her pack sonny boy’s belongings and sent him back to his apartment.  No, he won’t be living there with Teresa after all.   Wow!  Tere smiles and then calls to leave Fernando a message that she’s going to see about the divorce papers and wants to have lunch with him—oh, and BTW, your mama stopped by looking for you.  Cao!  Just then a call comes in from an unknown number.  It’s Juana calling from the nurse’s station at the hospital to tell her that Mariano’s been taken to jail!!!  Duhn-duhn-duhnnnn!!!

Aeeeda meets Papagote for lunch at the club and demands to know what’s really going on between him and Genovenom.  Sure they’ve been business partners, but what else, hmmmm????

Aurora hands over Dr. Magpie all of Mariano’s patient files.  She thinks finally about who else to call for legal help.

Ruben tells Aeeeda that Gen and he were friends and have known eachother since they were a couple of kids.  In the end she was the only one to hold his hand while he rotted away in jail.  Before he can say more, Art walks up for Daddy’s business lunch but gets a call from Aurora telling him Mariano’s been accused of murder.  Aeeeda races off to the jail despite Rubigote’s objections, to see about holding Mariano’s hand.  Art excuses himself and follows her out.  Things couldn’t have worked out better for Papgote.  “—I hope you rot in that jail, you miserable bum!”  (Now how did the cops think to look for clues at the highrise?)

At the police station, the uniforms take Mariano and put him behind bars.  They tell him he’s the prime suspect and considered the guilty party until he can prove his innocence.

Back at the vecindad, Johnny complains about him and Pati being prisoners in their own home (well, in Juana’s it would appear) because of Fito.  Well, says Pati, until they know he’s been nabbed, they’re safest there.  Buttberto returns from his meeting with Odiosa and tells the two he’s got a regular job at one of her companies and will now be sure to be able to adopt a child.  Juana walks in and overhears Buttberto say he doesn’t want Juana to find out he’s working for Oriana again.

Nando, meanwhile, gets a visit from one of his mother’s business associates who refuses, out of respect for his mother’s wishes, to do any further business with him until he reconciles with her.  Duh-duhn-duhnnnn!!!

Juana complains to Buttsy about working for such a hateful woman and Teresa’s worst enemy!  He won’t give up decent work, tho’ and Juana realizes there’s more urgent things to discuss: Fito’s turned up—DEAD! Yippeee!!  They can all breathe easy now!  Stop the celebrating, she tells them.  There’s a big But: Mariano’s been accused of killing him and has been taken to jail!  Oh-noes!!

Mariano goes to meet with his lawyer and who should appear?  Arturo!  “--You?  What are you doing here?”  “—Well, it might look strange, but I’m here voluntarily to help you.”

Juana warns everybody not to say a word to either Ramon or to Refugio about what’s happened to Mariano.  FF>>

Arturo explains that he’s there and no longer hates Mariano because he helped him see the truth about Teresa.  He refused to before thinking he was simply trying to win her back against her will.  He’s paying back the favor of warning Luisa about what was going on with Fernando and Tere—if he will agree to let him represent him.

Out front in the waiting area, Aeeeda and Aurora finally arrive.  Aurora is a jumble of nerves so Aeeeda asks the clerk if Mariano is still there or not.

Back in the cell area,  Mar has accepted Art’s help.  Art wants the truth:  did he kill Fito or not?  Mariano says of course not.  He was a criminal and a drug dealer.  He’s sure the guy had something to do with Paulo’s death.  Mariano admits, though, when he began to threaten doing something to Aurora he lost it and beat him up.  “—You only gave him a beating?”  “—Yes. Only that, but I did tell him that if he ever touched Aurora I would kill him.”  Art winces at that.

Out front in the waiting area again, Aeeeda relays to Aurora that Mariano’s there and speaking to an attorney right now.  Just then Tere races in.  Aeeeda and Aurora have a snitfit and ask what right she has to be there.  (Uh, how about like she’s returning the favor and trying to save his life!) She says she’s there to help Mariano out.  Arturo walks out and has heard Aurora’s question. He says it’s obvious that Teresa’s still in love with Mariano and surely has sneaked out behind Fernando’s back to help save “the love of her life.”

Fern is griping to Mama right now about Don Anselmo’s visit.  “—How could you do that to your own son???”  Oh, how nice he’s learning what it is to oppose his mama.   That’s only the beginning, she warns him, if he continues with Teresa.  “—Just what is Teresa doing, according to you?”  Well, her strategy is clear now, says Oriana.  He’s not sleeping with her, yet, is he?  No, he explains, because she’s waiting till the divorce comes through so she can do things properly.  “—PUH-LEESE!!  When somebody truly loves another, nothing else matters!  Never mind that. She’s manipulating you, this way.”  He insists she doesn’t know all the facts.  Mama says she knows enough. “--Think about it.  Weigh what you’ll be gaining with what you’ve got to lose.”  Could Mama actually be making headway?

Teresa admits that Mariano played a major role in her life at one time, and they have been friends since childhood.  He’s in trouble and she’s there only to help because Juana asked her and she promised she would help him; but, she adds, she is also there for Aurora, to prove that she is still her friend.  Aeeeda sniffs at that.  “--You don’t have any friends!  She’s got me to help!!”  “—And just what do you think you could do?  You never even graduated!  You were too busy getting ready for your wedding with Paulo!  You haven’t ever taken the Bar Exam and your stint with Papi wasn’t because you had talent, you were only working there because he was your daddy!”  (Team Teresa is off the floor and on their couches, jumping up and down.  You go girl!!)  Viewerville again enjoys one of the few times that Aeeeda is speechless—even sweeter that it’s because of Teresa getting in her face and giving her what for and what to do with it!!

Teresa softens her tone and tells Aeeeda she can best help by sticking with Aurora because she’s not used to being in places like this.  She will take care of Mariano’s defense.  Art informs her that he’s already got him for his attorney.  Tere’s surprised but he explains they’ve made nice-nice with each other.  Aurora thanks them both and asks them both to try to free him.  She knows he didn’t kill anybody and isn’t capable of such a thing!  Art says, well the problem is that witnesses saw him fighting with Fito and then heard him threaten to kill him.  On the other hand, Mariano’s already admitted all of that to the judge and the authorities found Mariano’s address in Fito’s clothes as well as Mariano’s blood.  They’ll probably transfer him now to prison, he says.

Aurora starts to lose it.  Teresa tells her gently but firmly that this isn’t the time to cry.  They’ve got to keep their heads in order to help defend and free Mariano.

Meanwhile, back at the vecindad, Juana tells Refu that she owes Teresa an apology, because Buttsy himself saw Art carousing with his gal Friday.

Back in the jailhouse, Art and Tere start workiing together on Mariano’s defense.  (Whoah!! Almost like old times, Sharkita lovers!)  He admits to owing Mariano a favor for what he did for Luisa as the reason he’s there.  He wants to know why Tere’s there.  She starts to explain that it’s for Aurora and because Mariano’s always been there for her, but Art loses patience and wants something more definitive from her.  “—I don’t understand you, Teresa!! You say you love me but you leave me for Fernando and then you run after Mariano helping him.  I’m more disappointed by you each and every day!  Here I am begging you not to get divorced, thinking there’s still something worthwhile between us to fight for, but the only thing you love is money—though that’s no longer my problem but Fernando’s.”  Teresa starts to try to tell him something, but he refuses to hear it.  “—No, let’s just get to work now on his defense.”

Teresa picks up the report from the file.  “—They found Fito’s body day before yesterday in the drainage ditch?”  Apparently so, says Art.  It was wrapped up in black garbage bags.  Teresa looks at the photos and suddenly realizes something is famiiar.  “—Arturo!!  I was right there!  I recognize this place and those bags!”  “—Do you know who did it?”  Of course, she says!  It was Genoveva and Ruben who threw him in there!  I saw them!”

Cuando Me Enamoro #112 Monday 9/26/11 Nueva Etapa? Oh Ya Think So? Maybe We’ll Call It Mala Etapa

Sweeping up the bits from last week: Jero makes plans with Doctora Marina Tataterrific. Is he resolved to forget the love of his life, Renata so quickly?

On to tonight’s revelations: Roberta enters the house, climbs the stairs to her room and looks at her box of memories. Included is the engagement from Rafael. She tries on the ring and begins to replay that Rafa movie she loves so well. How Rafa loved her and she loved him. He wants to take her to the hacienda and grow grapes and she hesitates but accepts. (I think I remember she was whining inside about missing all the fun and action of Mexico City?) She looks truly happy in the reverie of this one true love, then she is on the floor on that enviable purple sweater crying her eyes out.

Alfonsina walking among the grape vines has an attack of stomach cramps.

Jero finally gets around to seeing Dr. Nesme the Nasty. Nesme tells Jero he is worried that Agustin will find out he is still alive. He repeats, Agustin wants not just your woman but your lands and your mother vines. We see Nesme’s brain movie of getting into the protective cage at Rafa’s with Augie holding the light. Augie plans to take the plants to another secret field to develop them, then come back and destroy all your plants.

Nesme begs pardon for his wrong doing. He wants another chance to have a good life with Cari far from here. .Jero expresses conditions that if Nesme is to remain safe, he must remain hidden.

Cari goes shopping for a wedding dress in ignorant bliss of the cauldron of dead white fish that is headed her way.

Sot descending the staircase: Roberta drinks and thinks (or perhaps merely remembers), As if Rafa has hidden himself inside her bottle, she pleads, you seemed so sincere, I want to believe that if you didn’t arrive like you promised it was only because you were killed. I think you really did love me the most. (or, maybe the only one who ever did) My dear love, if you weren’t a coward to carry me away, then I could have gone with you and we would now be happy together with our baby too.

Laz , Carlos and Jero talk about the theft of the super-vine cutting. What are they going to do to prove Augie’s theft. It is dangerous. (somebody ought to tell Zeke just how dangerous) Matilde arrives so they talk cheerfully about the coming double wedding. Carlos, Matilde and Laz all go off happy he tells them he’ll see them tomorrow, all is okay (in spite of his dour face) and tells them he can’t go eat with them he has another plan.

At Cruz de Amor, Zeke says the new sprouts are almost ready (to establish the new Cruz plants and for the plan to ruin the Bonita’s crop). Agustin threatens Zeke again that he is to stay right on top of this work and don’t even think of backing out or telling anyone what is going on. The bottom teeth are in full jutting position, so Zeke hops to it.

Renata in her flannel jammies gets a text from Augie: Even though we are distant, I want you to know that I am at your side. And I will always be at your side, ALWAYS? She texts back that it gives her a lot of peace to know he is there. She wishes he will rest well then puts the phone down on the other side of the room so she won’t sleep next to it. So is he really at her side? (and did I miss a small lobotomy or drug injection here? Where is our smart Renata? And who is this dopey robot wearing her pajamas?) She sleeps and dreams right away. She is in the bed with Jero hugging her (nicely photographed). She is so cozy for a moment then she turns on the light to find herself alone to realize that it was a dream.

At the restaurant the romantic son-of-a-gun toasts Marina with more good wine. He has something important to ask her. She smiles waiting for a wedding proposal, and he asks her if she would like to live with him at La Bonita, a bit crestfallen she smiles. (Did I miss some procedure on HER head?)

Another dream sequence shows the bride and Jero in front of Padre but when the veil is lifted for the kiss it is Marina Tatas. NO! Renata wakes mumbling Don’t abandon me, don’t marry her. The bride wasn’t me it was Marina. The song croons Don’t abandon me for emphasis. While back at the restaurant, Jero then says he thinks marriage doesn’t work for him. We don’t have to make the usual promises just to be together. Marina agrees that a love needs to be honest and not built on empty promises.

Regina promises herself that it is better to go alone to meet Pepa and thinks it is also better than no one knows what she is going to do. She could lose everything since Papea is keeping vigil over her if she discovers she hasn’t followed Pepa’s orders. (I know I’m harping on this but what happened to this smart woman?) Suddenly Gonzolo knocks and comes in to say with concerned looks, you look worried and tense. He promises he is really here with her. She says her too. The phone rings, o sure it is Pepa telling her, you better pay attention and follow to the letter of what I want if I am to tell you about who your daughter is.

In the other restaurant. where the two couples talk about Jero’s reluctance to be the padrino or best man for Lazaro’s and Cari’s wedding, Mati waves her engagement ring saying it is more elegant than anything she ever expected to have. Lazaro asks Cari would like one? She demures while he summons the waiter who brings a red rose which magically has a lovely engagement ring inside the bloom. He puts it on her hand promising her she will soon be Senora Lopez. He wants them to be together happily ever after forever (while we all picture that caldron of dead white… oh wait a minute, those fish are thrashing around, but here they come sliding along on words like forever…). Carlos observes what a sound investment it is to spend money (on a ring) so you can get the benefit of being happy. They all laugh happily for now.

Back at the prison hospice ward, Nesme is anxious to resume his happy life with Cari far from here. The doctor reminds him that perhaps that could happen but he is in danger. Nesme wants his wife to know he is alive so she won’t feel vanguished (delusions of grand happiness) He has been reflecting in his coma and now wants his new life. The doctor observes that he can’t leave this room and everyone outside of it is thinking he doesn’t exist.

Fina calls Roberta from her hotel hideout asking has she done it? No, Roberta sighs, the door to Tia’s is locked. Fina has to tell her that there is a spare set of HON/CON ‘s keys in the office. She better get over there and do her part. Fina gives a snide reminder to Roberta that she has to perform this next step of her big plan or she will have lost everything. Roberta really doesn’t like to work, but she has to step up to the nasty.

Roberta has the evidently decided to help. She walks into Constanza house with a plastic bag and a flashlight, quiet as a dust mop in her pajamas and slippers. She steps into Renata’s room then into the bathroom. How did she know which room to pick? Hmmm. She comes back out still looking for ahh yes a hair brush. It goes into the plastic bag. Regina sleeps sweetly and Roberta starts out of the house but has to step into the shadows when Matias comes out from the kitchen with a glass of water he disappears through the door that leads to the bedrooms. Roberta holds her breath until she gets out the door. Have we ever seen Roberta do something so smoothly and competently? She’s a born cat burglar, it’s nothing short of impressive.

An kitchen encounter with Manuela, Lazaro and Cari after the dinner, they share the engagement story as Cari swoons. as she shows Manuela the ring. Manuela who loves creating new myths says it not only signifies a promise/engagement but it means that you have a man that loves you deeply. Lazaro says I will love her my whole life. Manuela says many people go through this life having never known such love and you didn’t have it with Dr. Nesme but now you have it with my godson. Your love with be blessed forever and will last forever. I am very proud of your love that has conquered all those nasty obstacles in life. Oh hear those wheels cranking as the carts creep forward. She just said forever way way too many times.

Renata dressed for work the next morning, looks for her toothbrush and hairbrush so she can comb her tangled curls, she stubs her shin and finds a brush in the night table. Over at the doomed house of Monterubbio, Fina insists that Renata’s hairbrush goes straight into Roberta’s purse and the toothbrush in the plastic bag has to stay in the purse for three days. Roberta hasn’t studied DNA planting so whines that she can’t figure out why Fina is making her do all these nutty things. Roberta brings up being upset with Fina’s cold blooded disdain for Consta’s life so she is worried if Fina could harm Consta, she wants Fina to swear that she had nothing to do with the death of Rafa. Fina puts on her best crocodile tears and swears without faltering. She now lies without ever flinching. I know that you are suffering for the loss of this sweet boy you loved so much. It hurts me that you could think I could have had anything to do with this. I’m so sorry you are suffering but it wasn’t me.

At Constanza’s bedside, Adriana tells Consta how much she has come to love her like a mother. She wants to be at her side and they will be a happy family. Consta is smiling but also grimacing when Honorio overhears this good news as he enters with a big bunch of roses. Consta silently talks inside her head that she hopes Fina isn’t going to hurt them too. She can’t warn them.

Chema meets Matias outside the hospital. Matias whines so that I couldn’t concentrate on all of it but Chema seems to be trying to be fair so tells him he better make a good pair with Adriana. He wants her too so Matias and he should get an agreement and make it legal for Adriana for her loyalty.

Regina cries and thinks she wishes her mother were there to see her granddaughter returned. The banker lady brings in the big black bag, seemingly full of money. Regina says this represents so much happiness. (I think using it for a trip to Rio would bring just as much happiness, but…) The woman says, I wish someone was going with you. Regina says no one knows what is in here. Only the Virgin and I can know what a treasure she is gaining with this exchange. Renata walks in, greets Regina in a very friendly manner then explains to banker lady that Regina is her fathers novia and also Jeronimo’s great friend. The woman notes that the two have such a similar air about them, they grin at each other with seeming pleasure then Regina leaves with the bulging black bag.

Carlos questions why Jero has a problem with Lazaro and Cari’s marriage. Yes he has a problem but he wants to talk to Lazaro alone.

Banker lady and Renata get back to the loan. Renata wants to know how much interest they are going to owe on the loan from the bank, er from Jeronimo. Bank lady says oh, I see you know where it came from. Yes, and Renata wants to pay it back as soon as possible so how much is the interest? Well actually the interest rate is ZERO.. She assures Renata that Jeronimo is a wonderful person. It is small wonder that he is so rich, he gives to everyone so generously and it always seems to come back to him.

Matias is being snotty with Adriana about her decision to be with Chema finally the snot says he knows that he loves her and wants to be with her. But he keeps putting words in her mouth, she can’t seem to make up her mind and she should know that he has made up his mind but she must decide between her feelings for him and for Chema because he can’t stand being in doubt. Both he and Chema want to be with her. He whines so thoroughly that Adriana, actually looks sideways in confusion.

Alfonsina clutches up in pain, staggers over toward a grassy spot and faints, the workers rush to her saying it must be because of her pregnancy so they need to carry her carefully somewhere inside.

Padre is telling Cari that it isn’t a good idea that Laz and she marry the same day as Carlos and Matilde. She can’t figure out why he is saying this He says it is because the people are very traditional and would think it is bad that she marry when Nesme is so recently…. Can’t bring himself to say DEAD cause he can’t lie. So Padre thinks it would be much better for the peoole if ahe waits just a little year to marry Lazaro. The time will go so fast she won’t notice. A YEAR, says a shocked Cari. Huh? Well that went well, didn’t it.

Lazaro comes to Jero’s office asks what problem Jero has if he doesn’t want to be the padrino at their wedding. Jero says It would be a grand honor to do this. It isn’t because he doesn’t want to but it is because he can’t. He doesn’t want to give him bad news, but he can’t be keep quiet. (already noted last week) Poor Lazaro says cant you at least tell me why not? Jero grabs his shoulders and says because Cari is not a widow. Dr. Nesme is alive. Fade to black and white shocked Lazaro, Yikes.

Next chapter; Jero and Tata announce their “engagement to live together at La Bonita” to an astounded Padre and Regina gets to see the picture of the Monterubbio family finally realizing that Pepa is Fina. She will ask, but is Renata or Roberta my daughter?

A Few Things:
Did anyone else notice and/or comment on the bedroom wallpaper of the three Monterubbio women? Bad Mom Fina, of course, had black wallpaper with slender white flowers behind her bed. Roberta’s was the reverse of white background and black flowers. Renata’s was bright red with black flowers. We probably won’t see all of them again and I just forgot to bring it up. Maybe someone else already did.

Did anyone watch the Rick Bayless program this past weekend on Baja California and especially the Guadalupe Valley? A wonderful vision of scenery, cuisine and fine wine. It really made me want to go there even more than the same influences in CME.

La Fuerza del Destino #37 Mon 09/26/11 Benito is Carjacked and Alex is Kidnapped

Cleto lets Ivan into the Curiel gate. Inside the house, Camilo is telling the Curiel ladies about the inauguration event tomorrow. He has brought over a study of their land suggesting the best crops for them to cultivate, and an agreement, for a very agitated Lucrezia to look over. Without even looking at it twice, Lucrezia declares it all too expensive and that she doesn’t understand. Cleto comes in to get Lucia for Ivan.

Ivan is surprised to hear Camilo is there. Lucia explains the reason and that it seems that her mom doesn’t like any of his suggestions, or him (se caye mal). They are both certain her mother likes no one, not even JJ. They head off for lunch.

Lucrezia STILL doesn’t understand the study, or so she says. Carly is sure she just wants to cause trouble for Camilo. Carly compliments Camilo on his youth, intelligence and knowledge of cultivation, and tells him she’ll have the check ready for him tomorrow. She ignores Lucrezia’s protest and basically calls her an old cow. Lucrezia slings the insult right back, and poor Camilo looks like he’d rather sink through the floor, than be in the middle of this family drama. Camilo leaves as soon as he can.

At lunch, Ivan is excited about the beach trip and is showing Lucia pics of beach houses on his phone for her to choose. She’s down in the dumps and half heartedly looks at them. She explains that she lost her job and why.

In Casa Meandragon, Pinky and the Brain (aka Saul and JJ) think about how to get those McGuires nailed for the fire. Saul reminds JJ that it was actually they who started it, as it seems JJ is starting to believe his own lies. LOL! JJ wants to know what’s happening with the next stage of the plan- the fake witness who saw the car. Saul has it all under control and it will be quite a “show” when it all goes down. JJ doesn’t understand such fancy English words.

In the pool hall, Antolin is still in his church disguise and calls Gordo over. Gordo, knowing he’s planning on framing Anto’s brother for the fire, is as jumpy as, well… a Mexican jumping bean. Anto gives him cash to do a job for him, as he’s going away for a few days. He’ll call early tomorrow to explain the job. Once outside, he calls Carolina and demands to know if Ivan has to do with all this. She denies it. They decide to execute the plan tomorrow. She wants assurances that his hired thug won’t kill the McGuire spy. Anto assures her he only kills when necessary. He wants her to stay near the phone and get rid of the maid. She thanks him, but he doesn’t want thanks. He wants the whole story once they get to the beach town.

Ivan is trying to convince Lucia not to be sad about the job loss. She’s not sad, so much as humiliated. Ivan says that people like to be envious, and anyway, pretty soon she’ll have her degree and they’ll be married. Lucia gets an ‘oh sh!t’ look on her face. “So soon?” Ivan wonders if she’s not sure about them. She says she is, but what about Alex? Ivan knows that’s something they’ll have to work out eventually, but they’ll do what’s right for the child. Lucia doesn’t want to hurt Alex. Ivan is offended. He knows he can be intense and impulsive, but he doesn’t want to hurt Alex either, and will put Alex’s happiness above all else. He can even give up having Alex eventually call him papa, but he can’t give up seeing him. He understands Lucia wanting to protect her family, but the two of them are going to form their own family. Affection can be ruined by a lack of trust, and more than once she’s lied to him to protect her family. But another lie may seriously damage the love he feels for her. He asks her to think about it. The next time he asks her something, he wants her to tell him the truth. Uh oh!

Team McGuire meets and David updates them on inviting JJ. They make more plans for the inaugural event and David leaves. Camilo tells Ivan about his meeting with the Curiel women, and about seeing Anto, Saul and one of Anto’s buddies together a little before the fire. Camilo knows his brother. He’ll spill the beans when it’s beneficial to him.

In the pool hall, Saul and Gordo continue to make their plans to frame Camilo. Gordo thinks it’s a good thing Anto will be out of town. Once he finds out, it’ll be bad news for the both of them. Saul doesn’t take the Anto threat seriously. Gordo won’t admit he’s scared, but won’t take sides between him and Anto either. He’s on the side of money (billete). The bartender watches them closely.

Camilo tells Carmen she has her job back. She’s all gratitude and kisses. Camilo tells her the conditions of her return. She has to get along with the other staff and be respectful. She still thinks that as the boss, she has the right to treat them as she wants. Camilo doesn’t want her to keep abusing her relationship/friendship with Ivan. She’s still not getting it, but agrees to apologize to Toni the next day, before stomping off to bed. Celia tells Camilo she hasn’t seen Anto in a few days.

A shirtless (woohoo!) Ivan calls Lucia (the first heroine I’ve ever seen exercise regularly) to apologize for being so rude and hard on her. This may all be madness on his part, and Alex might not even be his son. He may never find his son. He apologizes again. He tells her the beach house has been selected and rented. They’ll all fly out on Monday.

The next morning, Benito catches his relief spy napping in his car and scolds him for it. Antolin watches the changing of the guard from his red sports car, and calls up one of his shady buddies, telling them to meet him at Begonia and Azalea Streets.

Gerry takes off for work, while Carolina tries to act like all is normal. Both Benito and Antolin watch as Gerry leaves in his car. Carolina calls Antolin to check in. Gerry is gone, and Anto’s buddy (cuate) is on his way to take care of Benito. Carolina wants assurance that they won’t hurt Benito.

In Casa Curiel, Lucia and Carlota excitedly chat about the beach house the McGuires are renting. Lucrezia joins them at the table as Gloria brings out breakfast—scrambled eggs with prickly pear (huevos revueltos con nopales). Sounds delicious and interesting. Lucia and Carly inform Lucrezia that they are going on vacation. Nope, they are not paying, the McGuires are. Yep, Ivan’s going too. Nope, they don’t give a darn that it doesn’t look “proper.” Alex, yes, the snot nosed brat (mocoso) of Gerry, is going too. Lucrezia can’t believe this. People are going to think she and Gerry are getting back together, that Lucia is a slut, and that Carly is indecent. Carly giggles in response. It’s not like she and Toni are going to be cavorting on the beach in bathing suits like adolescents. Lucrezia storms away from the table. (Can I have her eggs?) Carly thinks she’s just jealous because SHE wasn’t invited to the beach house. They are both very grateful that she wasn’t.

Lucia calls her father’s house to inform him of their date of departure for the beach. When the housekeeper runs to get the phone, Carolina whispers in Alex’s ear that they are leaving for their beach trip today. Carolina takes Lucia’s call. Everything is ready for their departure on Monday. Carolina pretends to go with the program. However, she tells Alex that the two of them are leaving sooner than the others, like right now, and that Antolin is taking them. Alex is excited that Antolin can teach him how to swim. When he runs off to pack his suitcase, Caro asks Rosa to make a special and complicated dish for Gerry for dinner. It means that Rosa has to go far off to the Central Market for the ingredients.

Outside, Antolin points Gordo in the direction of Benito. Anto wants Gordo to take Benito off elsewhere and steal his phone and wallet. Gordo puts on his ski mask and heads for the car. He pulls a huge gun on Benito and orders him to step on it. After Rosa leaves the house, Antolin drives up. Caro and Alex are packed and ready to go, but Caro is obviously very nervous. Alex is too excited, chatting away with Antolin about learning to swim, to notice.

At Casa Curiel, Camilo has arrived with another copy of his agricultural study and agreement that Lucrezia has ripped up. Carly goes to get the check, while Lucia chats about having crazy family with Camilo. He says his mom is a good person, but she also has a strong personality (carácter). Lucia would love to meet Celia sometime since she’s virtually her mother-in-law, being Ivan’s godmother (madrina), and knows all about Ivan. Camilo tries to put her off meeting Celia in order to get to know Ivan better, since Ivan did not keep in touch with them after he went to the States (ahem!). Camilo thinks it’s because he had such a hard time of it when he first went to the States. He then somehow makes the conversation about him, by explaining how he had more when he and Ivan were kids. But he had a hard life too—working his way through college, his father’s death, and his divorce. Lucia points out that he conquered all those setbacks, but Camilo thinks it’s just due to Ivan’s generosity. Lucia doesn’t see the problem. They should all help others, and who better to help you than your best friend? Camilo reluctantly agrees, but says sometimes he would have preferred that a stranger (un estraño) had helped him. “Because owing so much to a friend, makes you beholden to them (ties you up).” Carly interrupts with the check before Lucia can ask any more questions. Camilo takes off.

In Toni’s office/den, Ivan’s got a bad feeling, and a disheveled Benito runs in to confirm it. He explains about the carjacking. Ivan calls Gerry’s house and gets no answer. He doesn’t think it’s just a coincidence that soon after Lucia told Gerry’s family about the finalized beach trip date, that this happened to Benito while he was keeping an eye on their house. Toni calls Ivan back before he can run off and angrily confront Lucia about it. Ivan’s convinced that if Carolina and Gerry took off with Alex, that proves Alex is his son. Toni thinks it’s a better idea for Ivan to go with Benito to the police station to make a report about the stolen car.

After Ivan leaves, Toni calls Carly. They chat about the inaugural gala for the McGuire business the next day, and about the beach trip on Monday. Carly is nervous about flying. Toni, the Flatterer, says she should be used to being up high (en las alturas) since she has a place reserved in Heaven. He finds out from Carly that Lucia told Caro just that morning about their Monday departure and all seemed well. After they hang up, Carly blushes and giggles like a school girl and wonders what’s happening to her.

The Curiel women (Lucrezia, Lucia, MP) have a surprisingly civil run-in at a local restaurant. Lucrezia’s been shopping for a new outfit for the inauguration event. She doesn’t want to be seen in her same old clothes. MP wonders why the McGuires didn’t invite a skanky, blackmailing, liar like her, when Lucia was invited. It’s been so long since she went out to an event. She begs to come along, even resorting to calling Lucrezia “mommy.” She whines. She bats her eyes. Lucrezia gives in. MP takes off. Lucia is not pleased, but Lucrezia wants to show the town that their family is at peace and united, and lure MP back to the family fold.

At the Association, JJ is trying to convince Cutberto (the rancher who lost his crops to the fire) and his other lackey rancher pals to go to the inauguration. They are all ticked at the McGuires and think it would show a lack of dignity. JJ claims they will be showing the VIPS coming from the government that there are no hard feelings on their part. Cutberto’s NOT going, and that’s that! He leaves.

Ivan finally reaches Rosa the Maid and is told the story Caro gave her- that she and Alex went to the house of one of his friends to eat. He doesn’t leave a message.

JJ continues to pressure the other stupid ranchers to go to the event. They agree. He assures them there will be justice. The secretary sneaks another snack as Saul and JJ enter his office. JJ wants Saul’s assurance that tomorrow the bomb will drop on the McGuires. Saul is sure; it’s all fixed.

The whole McGuire Team is gathered, trying to figure out what happened to Benito and why. The car is insured, so Toni isn’t worried. David thinks they likely already sold the parts away. Camilo thinks that the description of the carjacker fits Anto’s and Saul’s buddy, El Gordo. Toni asks about the guy Benito saw with Caro. Camilo thinks perhaps it was Anto, since he and Caro are tight. Well, my goodness. They figure the whole thing out, right then and there!

Toni doesn’t want to jump to conclusions, since Rosa mentioned the lunch Caro and Alex went to at a friend’s house. Ivan calls Gerry on his cell phone to try to get more info. No, Caro did not tell Gerry about the Monday departure for the beach. They still have his permission, but he wants Ivan’s word again that he will not tell Alex about his paternity claim. Ivan is still cool with that. Ivan ends the call even more sure that Caro has taken off with Alex. Camilo and Ivan head to Celia’s to get Anto’s cell phone number. David wants to know why Alex’s whereabouts are so important and what it has to do with Ivan. Toni tells him and Benito the whole truth about Ivan and MP and Alex.

At a roadside stand, Anto, Caro and Alex have stopped for food. Anto is mad at himself for not taking a faster road. When Alex excuses himself from the table, Anto pressures Caro to tell him why they are on this little adventure. She’ll tell him, but not now, since she doesn’t want Alex to hear. Antolin can only see two reasons for this affair. Either Gerry’s giving her trouble (echar los perros), or it has to do with IVAN. Cara impactada de Carolina.

Avances: Carolina calls Gerry from the beach town and tells him NO ONE will take Alex from her. The cops break up the McGuire inauguration gala.

Don Francisco
Don Francisco started right after the show. Tonight’s guests are Gabriel Soto (Camilo), Marcelo Cordoba (Antolin), and Geraldine Bazan (the life partner of Gabriel Soto, recently in Alguien te Mira, and currently on Mira Quien Baila). The show starts out with Gabriel and Marcelo in their LFDD characters, doing a funny bit. What I learn in the first ½ hour is that Gabriel went to Harvard and was discovered by a modeling agency. He quit school, began modeling internationally, and then began tns. He was originally supposed to have the role of Ivan, and DZ the role of Camilo in LFDD. After some polling, they found that people really wanted the roles reversed and that’s what happened. (I’m trying to picture the original roles and having a hard time.) Gabriel wasn’t upset about it. Work is work, is his philosophy. He and Geraldine met when filming a tn in Miami some years back. They don’t believe in marriage via a piece of paper or a big wedding event. Don F. brings out their little daughter, who they named after Gabriel’s mother who passed away when he was a boy. Marcelo is actually from Argentina, although he hides the accent really well. He started out doing construction work, and then got small roles in tns in Argentina. He then got offered work in Mexican tns. He sold his car, moved to Mexico, and didn’t look back. His family is all still in Argentina.

Doña Bárbara rebroadcast

It appears that Telemundo will rebroadcast the novela based on the classic Venezuelan novel, Doña Bárbara, beginning today in two hour episodes starting at noon eastern time. It is listed on the TV schedules for that time. Sometimes Telemundo mysteriously doesn't show what is on the schedule but I thought I would give folks who might be interested a heads up.

In my humble opinion, this is one of the best written novelas I have ever seen. Set in the Venezuelan llanos (but filmed in neighboring Colombia), it is filled with excellent performances by Edith González, Christián Meier, Génesis Rodríguez and many, many others. Virtually none of the novela conventions we discussed earlier are found here. You think they are going that way and then it surprises you with something completely different. And, we recapped it here. You can find the link in the sidebar.

Here is a link to one of the last posts I did on DB with pictures of most of the male characters - Eye Candy of the Arauca.

Next up: "A lucky family" (Una familia con suerte) - here's the "plot" ...

Hello friends! Finally another comedy in our lineup. I hope to take a slot for this one.

Una Familia con SuerteFernanda Peñaloza (Alicia Rodríguez) is told she has cancer and decides to commit suicide. When she's at the point of throwing herself off a bridge Pancho López (Arath de la Torre), a vegetable delivery man, tells her life is beautiful and one has to struggle for her every day. He conviinces her and invites her to join him in his truck, which he calls "The Donkey." He's a humble man, full of virtues and with natural knack for business - he helps whoever needs it and belives in family. He thinks having a lot of money makes for problems.

Fernanda meets his four children: Lupita (Ale García) is his pampered daughter, a warm-hearted girl who has inherited her father's love of helping others. Ana (Sherlyn) Lupita more than he loves her. Temo (Daniel Arévalo) is the baby of the family - their mother Laurita (Ana Bárbara) died giving birth to him and he's been raised by Chela (Luz Elena González), Pancho's sister-in-law, who took charge of the family when her sister died. She hides a secret: the only love of her life has been Pancho.

Pepe López (Pablo Lyle) is Pancho's oldest son. He's audacious, a mechanic's apprentice, he loves race cars and relates to people of a different social status than his own. He meets Mónica Rinaldi (Violeta Isfel), the rich girlfriend of Freddy Irabién (Juan Diego Covarrubias) and they become rivals on the road and for Monica's love.

Candelaria (Alicia Machado), Pancho's sister, is a pretty diva, who flaunts her exuberant beauty for all the men of the barrio to admire.

Pancho López and his family have a big problem: the neighborhood is mortgaged and there's no money to pay the debt. It hurts Pancho that he can't protect his family.

Fernanda Peñaloza values Pancho's honesty and sense of responsibility and considers him an honorable man, quite the opposite of her nephew Vicente Irabién (Sergio Sendel), an ambitious man who uses people, who's anxious for his aunt to die so he can have her fortune and become president of the business.

Enzzo Rinaldi (Pedro Moreno) wants to evict the Lopez family and their friends. Pancho feels trapped, he and his family suffer humiliation and in the end there's nothing for it but to accept Fernanda's proposal - that he become president of her cosmetics industry.

Rebeca Treviño (Mayrín Villanueva), a beautiful, intelligent woman, is Pancho's advisor in his new job as president. She will educate him, teach him how to live in the world of high finance. She becomes Chela's rival.

The López family moves into Fernanda's mansion, their new neighbors the Irabién family: Vicente, Pina (Daniela Castro) and Freddy...

La Fuerza del Destino #36 Fri 09/23/11 Moonlight Make-out Night for Lucia and Ivan; Carolina Schemes with Antolin; Benito Takes a Turn at Playing Private Eye

~This episodio brought to you by Teens ‘n Tweens Magazine. ~

Viewerville returns to Mexico and moonlight just as Lucia tells Ivan that she’s ready to lose her virginity for him.  He’s thrilled we assume and overcome by the urge; but they’ve got no place private to do the deed, he tells her.  The way he feels about her though, he’d just as soon do it right then and there!  He grabs her and kisses her.  They get lost in the dizzyingly delish moment as the camera tracks their kiss in merry-go-round fashion.  (Viewerville, though anxious to enjoy the moment with the celluloid couple, are simply dizzy, reeling and ready to retch.)

At the same time Carmen is making excuses for herself, minimizing her part in finally getting the axe from Mr. Anthony as his ama de llaves [head housekeeper].  She only made the old lady wait a teensy bit and how was she to know that she meant so much to the old guy?  Mama Arcelia knows her daughter’s arrogant ways too well and says as much.  Ohhhh!  Everyones taking his side against her, she wails!  In walks Camillo and says he could have imagined the scene she’d be making right now.  Tough nuts, but she deserves what she got, he tells her.  I warned you! Carmen tearfully begs him to ask Mr. Tony to take her back.  He refuses.  He’s disgusted with the way she always puts on airs and he doesn’t think she’s ever going to change!   She storms off.  Cam tells Celia that he hope she’ll learn her lesson.

At the local bar for bad boys, Saul tries talking El Gordo into incriminating McGuire employees in the arson attack, and nobody better than their right-hand man, Cam. Gordy knows better than to go after Antolin’s family.  “—He’d pull my tongue out!”  Saul says just to make an anonymous call to the authorities about seeing Cam’s truck parked in front of the farmer’s property right before the fire broke out.   They’ll throw the blame to any one of the other farmers in the area that refused credit from McGuire and Son.  Saul gives Gordy the Galvan family’s address so he can write down the plate numbers for the call.

That evening Benito is watching Gerardo’s house.  Inside, Gerry continues trying to talk sense into Carolina about not absconding with Alex.  Ivan and Tony would set a couple of investigators on them and they’d be tracked down in a matter of a couple of days!  Besides, even though they have a birth certificate, all it would take is for the courts to agree to a DNA test and they’d have all the proof they’d need.  Trust in Lucia not to tell Ivan anything.   Ok, says Caro, and she heads to bed.  Gerry doesn’t know whether to believe her or not it seems.

Ivan drives Lucia home but…..Surprise!  The moonlight make-out is all we get from our main pair of lovers tonight as Viewerville seems forced to enter into a time warp where Ivan and Lucia have regressed to their Junior High personas.  Ivan tells Lucia that he is glad they’re going on vacation together courtesy of Abue Carlota who now doesn’t seem like such a baddy to him.  Lucia laments that they won’t have any time alone together.   Oh, they’ll find some time among whatever else [inter].  We get more kissy-face but he’s dying from desire!  Somebody needs to call “Ripley’s Believe It Or Not!”   Our 30 year old Ivan refuses to go further than a major mack attack on Lucia’s shoulder.  WHY? Cuz our 24 year old Lucia’s still a virgin and deserves better than a back-seat bop in an SUV for her first time (or a trip to the nearest all-tell hot-el for that matter).  He admits to some very fiendish fantasizing about the two of them finally making love.  She lets out with a few ingénue giggles at that and whispers a few girly giggle-ishous goodies into his ear about some of her own naughty thoughts about him.  Viewerville is trapped as an unwilling chaperone in this bad Junior High nightmare, screaming to get out. (OMG!  No wonder kids turned to drugs, sex and rock-n-roll!)  They decide to wait for a more appropriate and appetizing occasion.

Our two would-be lovers have made the appropriate choice it would seem as Carly is up reading and waiting on Lucia to make it home sans dishevels as it were.  Lucia tells her that she’s sooooo in luhhhhhv!  Carly admits to wishing she could be that age again herself!  Lucia gives her a kiss good night and heads to bed.

Will this Z-rated Jr. High nightmare never end?  Both take showers in their respective bedroom suites and begin to fantasize about sex with each other.  It doesn’t stop at the shower stall.  They go to bed naked and continue their fantasies there.  (Ackkk! Puh-lease!  Note to the writers: Spare us more of this sweet sixteen giddy-girl n guy B.S., ok?  Try writing in a trip to the nearest city hall and making it officially adult.)

In another part of town, Anto stops by Maripaz’s place expecting a chat.  (Uh, yeah, right!)  Merry Piece grabs him by the gills, lays a major lip-lock ‘n tongue prod on him, then gives him a goose and the option for a good go in bed “to show her appreciation for his stepping up to stop the blackmailer.” She admits she hasn’t had a guy in a while and he’s shown himself to be all man.  Anto is sorely tempted, but something (like maybe Carolina?) stops him.  He courteously refuses the offer by saying he wouldn’t want her to think he was taking advantage of her this way.  Besides, she’d probably regret having fooled around with a bum like him the morning after, so he’d prefer to just stay friends.  He grabs his jacket and starts out the door.     “—Your loss!”  He agrees.  “—And what a shame, too!” He walks out the door. Reee-jected!!!! Merry Piece can’t believe it!

The next morning Benito is still there as Gerry leaves to give a proposal to a possible client for a remodeling job.  Once Gerry’s gone, she heads to her bedroom, opens the dresser and takes out the box with her bag of centenarios (gold coins now worth approximately 50 pesos or $5 each).  He watches as she, Rosa, and Alex walk into town, and then follows them.

Lucia receives some flowers from Ivan on her way to the school to pick up her final paycheck.

Celia blesses Cam as he heads off to work and asks him to try getting Carmen her job back.  He reluctantly agrees to for her sake and NOT Carmen’s.

Lucia calls Van afterwards to thank him for the flowers and he tells her how crazy he is about her.  They agree to meet for lunch.

Cam shows up as Van hangs up with Lucia.  He admits to being a bit jealous of Ivan’s good luck at love.  He’ll find his other half [media naranja = lit. half orange].  Cam says unfortunately his first go at it was a rotten one.  Badaboom!

Principal Olga informs Lucia that her mother didn’t call to explain her days absent from work.  She gives her pay and warns her that she doesn’t know if they’re going to give her a job the next year because of her reputation.  The whole town is gossiping about her and Maripaz going out with the same man—that Ivan McGuire—and how he’s put her sister up in a love nest to boink her whenever he has the chance.  Lucia tries telling her that none of it is true, but since she hasn’t a good reason to explain it away, Olga says the rumors will continue. She’s got to get involved and take some sort of action.  Besides, she doesn’t believe Lucia either!  As long as her sister is Ivan’s protégée and Lucia continues to see him, the school’s reputation will suffer.  Lucia says well, there’s nothing more to be said then.  She takes her paycheck and leaves; and on the way to her car Lucia cries over her humiliating treatment.  (Thanks again, Maripaz, for ruining her life!)

Cam, meanwhile, asks Ivan to see if Tony will give another chance to Carmen.  He explains that he’s only doing it because his mother asked him to, though he doesn’t think Carmen will change or deserves it.  Ivan admits that he doesn’t like Carmen’s abusive attitude with the help or the way she treats his dad’s dog.  She let the position go to her head.  However, because it’s his madrina asking he will try asking Tony for another chance for Carmen.  Besides, the whole world deserves a second chance.  Cam says he’s embarrassed to be so indebted to Ivan, but Van shakes it off and says he’s like a brother to him and he’d even give his life for him!  Cam says not to talk like that, but Van asks him if he doesn’t remember risking his life when he stabbed that guy in the street fight?  Cam remembers all right, but doesn’t correct the lie in the storyline.

Carolina and the others split up outside the church while she supposedly goes in to pray. Benito has secretly followed them there.  She tells the others to take their time buying swim trunks and lifejackets.  Inside, she meets up with Antolin who tells her he’s worried about what she wanted to meet him there for.  Why, won’t he help her?  Anto says all she has to do is ask and her wish is his command.  She asks him to exchange her coins for real money.  Anto is surprised by the amount of money she’s carrying around in that bag and asks where she got them.  She says they’re from her sister.  He wants to know what she’s got planned and why first.  “—Don’t tell me that that miserable wretch, Gerardo, is trying to take advantage of you!  I will kill him!!!”

Benito’s outside still waiting and calls Tony who tells him to keep watching her.  Women always want to go to church.  Benito suggests she might be there to meet somebody.  Tony says keep an eye out and hangs up.  Ivan apparently is in the know and changes the subject to opening up the packing plant the day after tomorrow [pasado mañana] with a grand opening celebration.  Then, they’ll go on vacation for a couple of weeks and when they return they can celebrate his and Lucia’s engagement.  Tony thinks that’s a terrific idea.  (¿Y cómo no?)

Benito enters the church and sees Caro talking to a guy, but the camera shows only his backside and not his face.  She is lying to Anto, telling him that she is going to take Alex on vacation with her to the ocean somewhere, but that Gerardo refuses out of pride.  Also, she says something about heading towards her hometown to see her cousin, Esther, who Gerry has never liked.

Anto suspects something else is going on since she has way too much money with her for a simple vacation (not to mention she’s acting really nervous and tearfully stuttering out her answers).  Caro says well, if she has too much, then they can just stay longer. Anto finally gives in, but first he wants the truth. Anto asks if her trip has to do with Ivan.  She denies it.  He says that he doesn’t want her traveling by bus and will take them himself—if in fact this cousin of hers really exists--she shouldn’t mind so much.  In fact, he thinks she’s taking off with Alex for some other reason altogether and Caro’s silence is all he needs to know he’s hit on the truth.  Anto tells her not to worry and kisses her hands.  “—You can count on me.”  [Soy contigo = I’m on your side/ I’ve got your six o’clock.]  She wants to leave the next morning and they agree he’ll pick them up at the café near the house.  He tells her he hopes this isn’t some big mistake.  She says no and he should leave by the side door.

Anto watches her leave the church and notices Benito is following her.  He recognizes him as the guy who came from the States bragging that he took Ivan in off the streets when he first arrived there to L.A. and slid in front of the line to see Sr. Anthony at the hotel.   So he follows Benito and then calls Carolina to warn her.

Van talks a very unwilling Tony into rehiring Carmen.  He changes the subject to some special visitors from Erdes/Ardes?, a major food producer, that are coming to check out their plant and are interested in doing business with them.  They’re thinking to sign a contract with them afterwards.  (Yawwwwwwnnn!)  FF>>

Across the way at Casa Curiel, Lucia tells her mother and grandmother what happened with Sra. Olga at the school.  She’s upset that Lucrecia didn’t bother to tell her why she was gone for so long.  Lucrazia seems to blow it off and tells her what does it matter since she’s going to marry and take care of her husband’s kids and household.  She doesn’t need the job.  Lucia disagrees and says she plans to use her degree.  Sure, says Mama.  Ivan is like any other man, promising the moon and the stars [montes y mares = lit. mountains and seas] but once you’re married they pull in the reigns.  Lucrazia walks off.  Lucia is bummed out.  Carly is sure that Ivan will be different.

Benito calls Tony to report and says Caro was inside the church talking with some man he couldn’t see well.  Tony thanks him and tells him to come home and sleep.  He’ll send out a different guy to take over following her.

Antolin dials Carolina.  He explains about Benito following her and explains that the guy is a friend of Ivan’s that he knows, so if he recognizes him, the guy will certainly recognize Anto.  It’s not going to work out for them.  They’ll have to change their plans for the next morning.

Tony tells Ivan to put Samuel in Benito’s place while he gets some rest.  Ivan asks if Benny’s observed any funny stuff.  Nope, just her having a little romance at the church.  Van looks a little puzzled but doesn’t say anything more.  FF>>

Gerry informs Caro that he got the remodeling job. She acts happy for him.  Alex arrives very happy because Carolina bought them lifejackets [salvavidas] and trunks.  She pretends to be in agreement on the vacation trip with Carly and Crew (I think?).  Gerry can only come for visits.  Alex wonderes who will teach him to swim…..  FF>>

Cam says he’s got the sexretaries sending invites for the grand opening to all the farmers who are working with them.  David’s gone to the Ag Association to invite Juan Jaime.

At the Association office, Juan Jaime finds out that he’s invited to the McGuires’ grand opening.  He puts on a big act of disbelief and asks David how he could expect to go and how they could’ve thought to invite him in the first place.  David swears they had nothing to do with that fire.  JJM accuses him of selling out to the enemy.  Davy denies it and says despite his cutting him down and underestimating his ability all these years, he did inherit something from him along the way—the same as Ivan did!  JJ wants to know how much he knows about Ivan.  All of it, Davy says.  Well, admits Juan Jeil-me, he’s also got servant’s blood mixed in and he’s just one of sooooo many of his bastard kids.  May be, answers David, but this bastard is one intelligent, successful man and he's really got a good head for business!  "--He’s not timid and spineless [apocado] like me, or a fool like Saui."  Could be that Ivan’s the son he always wanted, you know?  Daddy Meandragon tells him to get the heck out before he throws him out!  David readily obliges.

Juan Jeil-me sniffs and snorts and mumbles to himself once David’s gone. “—Ha!  The son I always wanted!  That thieving [altanero]…..!”
