Weekend Discussion: Villains; They Who Make Our Flesh Crawl

Dirty Dozen # 5 The Sleazebags

These are the evil men who are not accepted in polite society.  They mostly lack the social skills and the minimally acceptable-to-excellent appearance of their higher-born and higher-educated brethren in evil.  They normally cannot enter parlours or drawing rooms.  They usually dress badly, are often less than hygienic, and usually have no family ties or any other kind other than to their paymasters who are usually the mastermind villains.  They happily do all the low-level tasks the others are unwilling to do as long as they are paid for it.  They sometimes initiate evil acts of their own, but frequently they aren't clever enough to always assess risk vs. reward.  They are usually expendable once their dirty work is done, but sometimes clever enough to outwit their masters.

Who is the most evil of them all?

Comments:
Great job, UA. I was surprised, though, that two villains from "La Reina del Sur" weren't included. In a rather graphic scene, Gato Fierros rapes Teresa Mendoza, who goes on to become la reina del sur. I think he also kills several people, but it's the rape--and the pleasure he takes in it--that earns him a place in your pantheon of scumbag villains.

The other villain, perhaps even more deserving of a place in the pantheon, is Ramiro Vargas, better known as Ratas. Played by Salvador Zerboni, he's a frightening sociopath who delights in inflicting pain.

There are other villains in "La Reina del Sur," but the above two best meet your criteria: evil men lacking in social skills who are not accepted in polite society.

Thanks, UA! I can see that the more I watch TNs, the more I'll enjoy these rundowns. I absolutely delight in seeing the villains that I know.

Not being so well versed in TN baddies, I guess I have to throw out the name J.R.Ewing.

Thanks for the list.

Here are some more bad guys for this list:

Fernando Escandon (murders, rape)...He literally killed about a 3rd of the cast of FELS...

Bruno Lombardo (kept trying to kill his brother, abuse of his pregnant sister in law, setting people up to go to jail)

Sergio Goyri's character in STuD

I don't think Fito & Bruno (Amor Bravio) should be included on that list yet. Alonso is worse than Bruno...he's abused his wife, tried to rape her, trying to steal her fortune, in on killing the true heir to the fortune, knowledgeable about the (failed) plot to kill his wife, now trying to physically harm (again) the true heir to the fortune, embezzling from his wife, in on the plot to kill the town priest etc.

Fernando Escandon and Alonssso Lascano made the Predators list because they could pass in polite society in a way Gabino Mendoza couldn't. Rosendo of STuD could make this one, though.

I'm less knowledgeable about Telemundo's programs in the last two years and couldn't remember the details from LRDS although I knew Zerboni's character qualifies for this list.

I have to add a villiana to your list:

Consuelo Uribe from Nunca te Olvidare. She was evil, and she tortured Esperanza and Luis Gustavo all the way to her last dying breath.

Thanks, UA. You included two guys I always enjoy seeing: Sergio Acosta and José Elias Moreno. I've seen Acosta over and over again, including his smarmy evil gypsy character in Corazon Salvaje 2009. He seems to be a popular choice for a predator and is always reliable in the role.

Moreno was more of a major bad guy in Pasion, and certainly able to inhabit the upper crust of society. I've also seen him play some really nice guys, but especially enjoy seeing him play against type. He can bring the evil with an intensity that conveys dread to feminine hearts and souls (not to mention bodies.)

La Paloma

I am thinking that the actor who is now playing Aldo in Refugio will end up in this category some day. He doesn't have the necessary classic features or the attractive macho traits to be a galan and he doesn't look intelligent enough to be a mastermind villain.

Typecasting could also be another topic sometime soon.

There was an icky, unhygienic-looking villain in Heridas de Amor called El Guapo. In addition to being evil and gross, he was also crazy. A fun combo!

I vaguely remember that. I will definitely look him up.

Keeping this on the villano side of the fence: I'd definitely throw in Julian Garcia, a.k.a. El Cazador, from Alguien te mira. Rafael Amaya did an incredible job with that role, though his character didn't really get to creeping people out until fairly late in the show--but once he did, damn.

You should add Carlota Espinoza de los Monteros (from En Nombre del Amor) to the list. She was the worst of all the villains in that show. She killed five people (including her own sister Macarena), framed Cristobal and Natalia for a crime she committed and also she killed animals including Paloma's puppy (the one she got as a little kid).
