La Sombra del Pasado #2-3 - Wed 2/18 - A vigil, a tryst, and oops, somebody left the barn door open

Last night's highlights:

Padre Sixto saw the illicit snogging and refused to buy any of Severiano's excuses for it.  Roberta stayed home from church to sneak off and meet Severiano in their "usual spot" (a barn).  Severiano tried to stay home from church, but succumbed to Candela's whining…and thus got treated to a fiery sermon from the Padre about how you can pretend to be good all you want, but GOD KNOWS WHAT YOU'VE DONE!  Adelina is suspicious about Roberta and sends Raymundo out for milk before he can come inside the house after church.  Roberta had left the baby alone all day/afternoon to wait for Severiano, who never showed.  Dominga has gifted both babies scapulars of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, but Candela would prefer that Cristobal not have anything around his neck.  Raymundo comes back to the house for his wallet and hears Adelina and Roberta talking about him finding out something.  Roberta deflects by saying Adelina has a crush on him, which prompts Adelina to cut her visit short out of embarrassment.  Severiano waits for Padre Sixto to be alone in the church and attempts to bribe him.  When that doesn't work, he chokes him to death.  Raymundo was out on his milk (formula) run and may have seen Severiano leaving the church.  Prudencia has been collecting gossip about Roberta all day and Humberto warns her not to go visit Roberta or Candela will find out--and she won't be happy.  Back at home, Severiano tells Candela that Padre Sixto asked to see him to try to get money for some repairs around the church and accepted her invitation to come over for breakfast in the morning.  When he doesn't show up, Candela insists on going to town to check on him.  She and Doña Lourdes (the caretaker) find the body.

Tonight:

Humberto swallows his pride and asks Severiano if he's come up with a way that Humberto can stay in town.  Severiano has been, ahem, busy, but he perks up and asks if Humberto is serious about how very, very loyal he can be.  They're interrupted by Candela calling to say the Padre is dead and they head for the church.

Prudencia sucks up to Dominga, but screws it up by plucking the flowers off her plants.  They get to talking about the gorgeous, gorgeous Santuario, that happens to be owned by Roberta and Raymundo.

Roberta has a picture of Severiano from the newspaper hidden away in a little box in her room…she kisses it, but then rips it up.   She hears Aldonza crying and finds that Adelina changed her mind and decided to stay.  She and the baby are used to each other.  Plus she doesn't want to leave while Roberta is busy trying to screw up the good thing she has going with Raymundo.

Severiano and Humberto get to the church and Humberto confirms that Padre Sixto is dead.  Severiano suggests the ladies leave him and Humberto to deal with things there, so Candela takes Doña Lourdes home.  Severiano pressures Humberto to sign the death certificate, lying that Padre Sixto was complaining about a pain in his arm last night, so CLEARLY Padre died from 100% natural reasons, and that the town doctor is a drunk.  Desperate Humberto succumbs to the allure of being the new town doctor and goes back to Severiano's house to get a copy of his medical license.

Prudencia has also succumbed…to her insatiable need for gossip…and gone over to ask Raymundo for permission to check out his pretty, pretty waterfalls.  Roberta tells him that Prudencia is related to Severiano and Candela and when Prudencia brings up Roberta's visit to Las Animas yesterday, Raymundo assumes Prudencia is just trying to cause trouble.  He throws her out.

Candela cries and tells Dominga about the Padre dying.  Dominga is suspicious and asking questions about exactly when the Padre died and why they're assuming it was last night, as opposed to this morning, but her questions die off.

Roberta tells Raymundo she only went over there to confront Severiano about his lies.  She's sure he only said she was ho'ing around to convince Raymundo to sell him El Santuario.  Raymundo believes her, but wants her to stay away from Las Animas, and to swear it on their daughter.  She won't, of course, but agrees to swear on Raymundo's life.  It's been nice knowing you, dude.

Dominga wonders if Raymundo's brother Geronimo will be put in charge of the parish.  Candela's not thrilled with the idea.

Raymundo, Roberta, and Adelina are having breakfast when Joaquin, the ranch foreman, comes in to make eyes at Adelina…I mean, to tell them that Padre Sixto is dead.  Raymundo is shocked, but is sure Padre Sixto was still alive at 9pm because he saw Severiano leaving the church at that time.  Roberta freaks out and blames it on the shock…she practically runs out of the room.

The town is gathering outside, waiting for news about the Padre.  Severiano lays out in subtle and not-so-subtle hints that the Padre died of a heart attack, right?  And there's no reason for the cops to be involved, right?  And it would be terribly undignified to have to cart the body all over for autopsies and such, right?  So it's really best if the reason listed on the death certificate is "heart attack" right?  And Humberto understands that this is the kind of loyalty Severiano was talking about, and knows he'll be amply rewarded for it, right?  Humberto doesn't seem to be suspicious at all as he agrees to this.  Severiano says he'll go out and start making funeral arrangements and placating the populace.  Humberto takes another look at the Padre's body, this time removing his collar, and finally, the lightbulb goes on.

Outside, a crowd so large that I have a hard time believing they all (a) actually live in this town and (b) didn't have anything more important to do, have gathered and are clamoring for news.  One of the crowd at least confirms that the town doctor is, in fact, a drunk.  Severiano makes good on at least one of his promises/predictions and says he called in another doctor to examine the Padre.  The Padre did, in fact, die of a heart attack, and they'll hold his vigil later, and Severiano will take care of everything, ok?  The crowd agrees.

Humberto comes back to Severiano's office at the house to tell him that the funeral home has already picked up the Padre's body, but he hasn't submitted the death certificate yet.  "Which one do you want me to use?  The one you told me to write up or the real one?"  Sev pretends to be confused.  "Padre Sixto didn't die of a heart attack.  He died of asphyxiation.  The marks are faint, but I saw them.  And I have a feeling you knew they were there, too."  Ooh, Humberto, I took you for a spineless toady!  You've just been upgraded to blackmailer!  Humberto noticed Severiano's insistence on Padre dying a natural death.  Severiano starts to sow doubt, repeating the lie about the arm pain…and then adding that it wouldn't be the first time Humberto has given a wrong diagnosis.  See, Severiano knows exactly what happened back in Los Olivos…Humberto misdiagnosed a child who later died and no one trusts him now.  Candela interrupts their conversation and wonders about the looks on their faces.  Severiano says Humberto was just telling him about the Padre's death…ain't that right, Humberto?  Humberto glumly agrees the Padre died of a heart attack.  Once Candela leaves, Humberto hands the accurate death certificate to Severiano and Severiano rips it up and burns it.

Subtle characterization or mistake in the editing room?  The top of one thigh-high stocking is visible under Roberta's skirt as she mopes around in bed.  She doesn't want to go to Padre's vigil because she's sooooooo upset.  Raymundo says she does this all the time--complains about everyone treating her badly and ignoring her, but then something important happens and she wants to skip it.  When she tries to use the baby as an excuse, he tells her that Adelina can stay with the Aldonza.  Backed into a corner, Roberta agrees to go.

Humberto finds Prudencia in their room with Cristobal.  Since everyone else wanted to go to the vigil, she offered to stay with the baby.  Humberto is in no mood to listen to her lighthearted chatter about wanting to have a little girl to grow up with Cristobal.  He gets even more upset when she says he shouldn't be bothered by death, because he's lost a bunch of patients already.  Ouch!

Raymundo tells Adelina that he hasn't seen his brother, Geronimo, very much since his brother went off to the seminary.  It's why he's glad that Adelina is there with Roberta.  Roberta finally comes downstairs and they head off to the vigil.

Humberto tells Prudencia that Severiano knows what happened in Los Olivos, but he's going to help them, "especially now."  For once, Prudencia's gossip radar doesn't ping and she limits herself to asking what the Padre died of, shrugging it all off, and taking the baby back to his crib.

Candela leads a prayer, asking the Virgen, by her many titles and attributes, to pray for Padre Sixto.  Severiano is most assuredly not praying along with the rest of the congregation.  Mr. 5ft wonders why she's leading the prayer.  My explanation for that is the same as the reason why the town were all content to have Severiano take over all the funeral arrangements, accept his explanation of the Padre's death, etc.  It's unspoken feudalism--they have the more money than anyone else in town, everyone wants to stay on their good sides, that means letting them act like the Lord and Lady of the region.  Roberta and Raymundo arrive and Roberta leaves some flowers for the Padre and then heads for the pews on the OTHER side of the aisle from Sev and Candela after giving Severiano a…significant…glance.

Joaquin comes into the house, looking for Raymundo, but he only finds Adelina.  Mhm, I'm supposed to believe he didn't know that Raymundo was off at the vigil?  He apologizes for not realizing Adelina is Roberta's sister, 'cause if he'd known that, he would have helped her with her bags earlier.  He's sure glad she decided to stay…uh, for Roberta.  Riiiiiiight.

While Cristobal hangs out in his crib, Prudencia takes a look at Candela's jewelry…and gets busted by Dominga.  She was on her way to the vigil, but she's changed her mind.  She'd hate for anything to turn up missing.  Prudencia is pissed at Dominga's insinuations…"Oh, honey, I don't insinuate, I just come right out and say it!"  Prudencia threatens to have a talk with Candela about her uppity maid…but she can't, or Candela will find out WHY they had words.  So that's that.  Score 1 for Dominga!

Joaquin finds Raymundo at the church and asks to speak to him.  Candela tells Severiano that no one is standing guard at the casket and it's his turn.  As soon as he stands to one side of the casket, Roberta gets up and stands on the other.  Before Candela can go start something, a random townie asks to speak with her. Meanwhile, Roberta is up there accusing Severiano of killing the Padre.  Geez, y'all…can't a guy rest in peace, in peace?  Noooo, you've gotta make it all about you.  Roberta says he'd better meet her at the barn right the hell now or she'll come back to the church and accuse him of killing the Padre.  She scoots on out of the church and makes the excuse to Raymundo, outside, that there are too many people…and she has a headache…and she's sure the walk will help her feel better…and Raymundo should stay…and she doesn't need a ride from Joaquin.  Nope, couldn't get out of that last one.  No idea what Joaquin needed to say to Raymundo, either.

Severiano gets back to his pew, giving Candela a chance to ask him QTH was going on up there and insisting that THAT WOMAN was saying something to him…she couldn't POSSIBLY have been praying.  Severiano says he has to go pay the funeral home right away.

Back at the house, Roberta starts looking for a way out of the house that won't take her past Joaquin in the truck out front.  When Adelina sees her, she makes the excuse that she just needs a headache pill and then she's going back to the church.  Adelina's not buying it.  "Fine!  I need to talk to Severiano.  Raymundo doesn't have to know…unless someone tells him."  Adelina hates being an accomplice, but not only can she not talk Roberta out of her stupidity, but Aldonza starts crying and Adelina runs upstairs, leaving Roberta free to run out the front door.

Candela is upset to hear from Melecio that Dominga stayed home with the baby.  Because Melecio hems and haws over not really knowing why, she wonders if something is wrong with the baby.  She asks if Severiano stopped in to see Cristobal when he got home, but, well, Melecio doesn't know anything about that….

Severiano lights some candles at the love shack.  "El miedo no anda en burro" says Roberta as she walks in.  Took me a while to HEAR her…then longer to understand what she said…then I had to look it up.  Literally, it's "fear doesn't ride a donkey."  Severiano says he's not scared of her, but he sure did move fast…as in, not at the speed of a donkey.  Roberta threatens once again to tell everyone that he killed Padre Sixto, or is at least involved, because Raymundo saw him leaving the church at 9.  Severiano says she should check the death certificate, if she doesn't believe him.  "Yeah, and how much did you pay for that?"  She tells him to save the lies for people who don't know him as well as she does.  If he's not scared, then why did he show up?  "For you."  "Oh, sure.  Now that I'm ready to tell all your darkest secrets, now you want me back?"  Severiano says he tried to forget her, but he just can't!  But, they're married, and she can't go around playing the jealous lover.  Roberta would leave everything for him, but Severiano says it's the secrecy that gets them both off.  And speaking of getting off…the clothes start flying.

Raymundo surprises Adelina.  Aldonza has been a little jumpy.  "So are you…what's up?"  Raymundo is sure something is going on, and it's something to do with Roberta.  Adelina admits that she's not in the house.  "I don't know where she went."  He doesn't believe her and begs for the truth, going so far as to try to shake the truth out of her.  "Is she cheating on me?  Where did she go?"  Adelina says she doesn't know, just that it's close.  He leaves the house, machete in hand, before she can stop him.

Cristobal is fussy and Dominga can't calm him down.  Candela insists she go find Humberto…"He IS a doctor!  He might actually know something!"  Dominga is skeptical, but does as she's told.

Raymundo sees lights on in the barn.

Roberta adjusts her thigh-high for the camera and gives the guys in Viewerville a quick flash of something to keep 'em tuned in.  Mrs. Robinson, eat your heart out.  She's jonesing to make a run for it with Severiano, but he tells her she's nuts…and what about her daughter?  Well, no, Roberta's not that heartless.  But she doesn't know how long she can keep up the lies.  Severiano tells her to just live in the moment and let the secrets make their forbidden fruit a little more juicy.  Raymundo drives the truck right into the barn and when he grabs the machete and gets out, gets shot in the leg by Severiano.  He gets in a good slice to Severiano's arm and Roberta tries to keep him from doing any more damage, but he fights her off.  Rather than let her husband kill her lover, Roberta picks up Severiano's gun and shoots Raymundo.

Tomorrow: Everyone is worried; the barn burns; Adelina has to cover for her sister yet again.

Well, this is certainly moving along at a good clip.

It is! Can't wait to read the recap!

Kat- Thanks for giving us two recaps for episodes 2 & 3! Fabulous job as always.

Two murders in two nights. Whew! Can't believe Roberta chose the life of her lover over the life of the father of her child. That's just cold.

I think wardrobe clearly meant for us to see that Roberta is the kind of woman who wears sexy thigh highs, and doesn't care if she flashes them.

Loving Alexis A. (Sev) in this role. So evil.

Thanks for including Tuesday's action as well!

It's the third episode and we've got 2 deaths. This is gonna get ugly.

Very interesting that Raymundo's brother might be taking over... But why doesn't Candela like him?

Roberta and Severiano have a lot of chutzpah.

Both babies could feel the disturbance in the force, and that something bad was about to go down with their daddies, hence their inconsolable crying.

PS- I am really digging Cynthia as Prudencia. I hope she and Dominga get into a few more spats. It's entertaining.

I like that interpretation, Vivi!

Sara- Yeah. I'm loving the interactions between nosey social climber Prudencia (who doesn't live up to her name), and take no nonsense Dominga.

Gracias, Vivi and Sara!

I know I'm not supposed to like Roberta, but I just can't help it. I also love all her "I'm not bad, I'm just dressed that way" fashion choices.

I don't know why Candela wouldn't like Geronimo, other than him being Raymundo's brother. But if they're all locals, maybe something happened in the past. I certainly hope so anyway!

Maybe Geronimo chose the priesthood over Candela?

Oh, please let that be the reason! It will make confession so awkward...and all those sermons about lust....

Thank you Kat

"For once, Prudencia's gossip radar doesn't ping and she limits herself to asking what the Padre died of"

Yee, haw, we're off to the races!

Funniest moment of Tuesday's episode-- the looks on everyone's faces when Padre Sixto went off on his little brimstone and hellfire rant at the podium. And especially Sev' s face.

Love the wtf look on Raymonds face when Roberta put the bullet in his back.

Gracias, tofie! I am enjoying the action on this one!

Omg Kat "I'm not bad I'm just dressed that way." Bullseye! I love the hell out of Roberta.

And tofie "love the wtf look..." now I'm just giggling away and the cats are annoyed that I've woken them up.

And don't forget the nookie! Action and nookie... I don't know what to do with myself.

yep and thank goodness no gratuitous mi amors, just gettin it on in a church and a barn

I hope that Padre Sixto/Grumps is enjoying a good game of dominoes with Padre Francisco/Raisin (Que te Perdone) who also got murdered last night, up in heaven. I'm sure their shaking their heads at all the nonsense and evil they'll witness for the next 140+ episodes in their crazy towns.

The lack of "mi amor"-ing is a relief. And I wouldn't believe most of these people anyway. If they said it to the babies, sure...but not to another adult.

Vivi- I saw Uni even had a fb post about two dying priests!

Interesting that we've got these two dark shows sandwiching MCET and Hasta. Or are they getting dark, too?

I wonder if we'll get GMA (gratuitous mi amors) when the babies grow up. Hope not.

If I never hear another "mi amor" again, it will be too soon. How about a "mi vida" or "mi cielo"...anything but "mi amor"!

dammit, don't spoil it for me thinking mi amors are coming later, let me waller in lust & murder for a bit

Sara- Hasta is too "gris" (grey, dull) to be dark. Although things got pretty wacky yesterday when a character beat herself up, but luckily it was resolved quickly. Yay!

and MCET had one murder of a male nurse last week with a crazy loose but the worst to happen will be a lie revealed that will split a recently engaged couple. MCET is cartoonish, even the bad guys

tofie...mmm, lust and murder! Sin makes for a more entertaining show. Or maybe I should say...a variety of sins! The last one had too much envy and not enough of anything else.

well, let us all have a seat in the den of sin

So she *was* beating herself up! I saw the previews, Vivi and I thought that's what it looked like.

tofie- I'm going to waller with you!

Is it wrong of me to hope that Candela's issue with Ray's brother is like y'all said? That would be pretty good if she was still listing after him.

Yes. Even coverage of all 7 is much more fun than focusing on one.

7 sins that is.

"I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints/the sinners are much more fun!"

Snort. I expect we will have a ball.

Oh, boo! I just realized we don't have another episode tomorrow because we're being pre-empted by Premios lo Nuestro.

I'm pretty bummed too. It's just not right to end on the machete cum gun fight and make me wait until Friday! And I have to go out of town with the school Science Olympiad team so I won't get to watch until late Saturday!

Talk about a cliffhanger. I mean, we can all guess what's coming next, but it still sucks to interrupt all the excitement, even for a night.

Diva and all: this just feels so nice and relaxing: lust, murder, betrayal, and only night 3 of debut week.

Anyway thanks Diva for the great recap of last night and tonight! I'm liking the angst already. Also, since we are going to have a 20-ish year time jump, I note the subtle signs of the early nineties in the wardrobe, shoulder pads, yuppy jacket and pleated pants of Candela, also the beige landline phone. Nice touch.

http://masquetelenovelas.blogspot.com/2015/02/osvaldo-de-leon-sera-villano-de-la.html?m=1

Wow Corazon ,Osvaldo De Leon will be a villian?? Call me excited ! And Sergio Sendel stars again, what would he play? My bet is he will play the role that was played by Lisardo. He was the one obsessed with the main character. Also i cannot wait to see Grettel Valdez again but i wonder who will play the nasty Mother.

But i do not like it that they remaked a novela that was remaked years ago unless they will pull uncertain twists into it. If not ,then i dont know if it will interest me enough,.
I am still waiting for the Pasion remakes by the way!

CxA, not before an Alborada re-make God Forbid (either Pasion or Alborada being remade.)

Hi, 5ft. I am enjoying this series, and really enjoyed your take on how things unfolded for the past two days!

I'm glad to know that even the females noticed Roberta's expert thigh exposures.

Priesticide was rampant last night. Being in the clergy is more dangerous than pulling a tour in the Middle East with an elite special operations unit.

Roberta's kid has a really crazy hair growth pattern.

Gee, we've had more entertaining murder, mayhem and sexy hijinks in these few episodes than in the entire La Ga... Oops, almost said it. Sorry.

David

Diva...Thanks so much for the double the recap. Yikes..two murders..and one was a priest. goodbye, Padre Grumpy. the first time I ever saw this actor was when he played a powerful, honest judge in Alborada. Dominga was a feisty maid to Lucero in Alborada. It is always fun to see these familiar actors in new roles.

Well, Susana is sure playing the cat on a hot tin roof in this one. she always looks slightly possessed. I get a kick out of her tearing around frantically with that wild hair flying and her garters showing. She looks like she has ants in her pants and bees in her bonnet.

David- I feel so validated! I had noticed baby Aldonza's hair pattern. We probably can't see the lighter peach fuzz.

J- I'm enjoying the fashion trip down memory lane as well.

Corazón and Countx - it's a Mejia production and he's on my "don't watch list." I agree that it seems ridiculous to be making a third remake so soon after the last one (Cuando me enamoro.)

My student from Mexico told me that the title is actually a common saying, an adage people say in Mexico. She had trouble explaining exactly what it means...something about doing something bad in the past.

I'm enjoying Susana as well. She was so vile in La que no podía, but I like her villainy so much more in this. She bad, no doubt. She's probably just killed her husband, but there seems to be just a smidge of vulnerability to her. Or at least human frailty.

She wants to be respected, but can't seem to figure out what she's doing wrong.

She'll leave her baby alone for God knows how long to meet Severiano for a tryst, but she won't leave the baby entirely.

Sara,,,I noticed that one streakmof dark hair on Little AL. I kept thinking of a student from Argentina telling me that they shave the baby's head because they believe the hair will grow in stronger.

The fashion interpretations of 2p years ago are...interesting. Last night, both Robbie and her sis were wearing big shirts and BIG belts. The sister's clothes always look too big for her petite body. Candela looks like she just stepped out of the Dynasty set with those shoulder pads.

I suspect that smidge of humanity won't last long.

Oh yes the belts. I may have owned one or two like that.

Kat, simply spectacular.

I've always loved your detailed, riveting recaps and am so happy to be reading them again.

Too many wonderful lines to quote but "illicit snogging" and "Subtle characterization or mistake in the editing room?" were my favorites.

I'll agree with everyone this is sailing along splendidly and shockingly!

2 murders and Roberta's husband gone so very quickly. I was surprised she shot him. I mean, it was obvious she didn't love him but to shoot him in the back, defending her lover was beyond cold.

That said, I agree with you Kat, I can't hate Roberta. Even now. Perhaps it's an affection for the actress but I'm not yet ready to stone her.

When Severiano choked the padre in the second episode, I have never seen such a contorted facial expression. Alexis' performance in that scene was brillant.

I'm also enjoying Prudencia. She and Roberta share a similar taste in fashion "dont's" but I like Roberta's style.

Can't wait for the fallout.

So nice to see so many comments already.

Diana

I'm also guessing that the countryside of Mexico where this is set in, was a few years behind the fashions here. So late 90s might look more like early 90s, and early 90s likely looks more like late 80s. The scary thing about the wide belts, bright colors, and big glasses, is that they have come back in style with the teens the last few years. Everything comes back around in fashion.

I don't hate Roberta either. It's too much fun watching what she'll do next. And yes, Susana has made her feel very human. Same thing with Candela. She comes off as an ice queen a lot of the time, and she definitely has a ruthless streak (pushing Sev to buy the land), but she also seems very human, her sadness over the padre's death was very real, and she treats Dominga with real respect and affection.

Love Baby Aldonza's mohawk. I think it's adorable. :) Little bald Baby Cris (really Baby Mauro Lyle) is a cutie too. Will the babies meet as babies, or only once they are older? They don't even have their scapulars to unite them, as baby Cris isn't allowed to wear his yet (I tend to agree with Candy that it's a chocking hazard).

Diana.Yes..the look on Sev's swollen, contorted, shaking face as he choked the priest was freaky scary....and that bulging eye. YIKES. I felt as if I was watching a horror movie as Sec morphed into Diablo incarnate.

Vivi...Yes, Roberta is a colorful character literally and figuratively.

There have been a couple of interesting camera angles. Not as shocking, but interesting was the angle with Candela in the foreground talking to townie and Severiano and Roberta at the coffin.

I question I keep forgetting to ask- why is Prudencia so interested in the waterfall? I understand it was a pretext when she went to see Raymundo, but she was even asking about it at the baptism. Does she know Candela wants it and was just digging at her?

It's unimportant but it's stuff I think about.

Sara- I think the first time she asked about the waterfall, it was really just pure chitchat and trying to plug why she and hubby would just love to move to the area-- "Hey, what about those great waterfalls I hear you guys have here!" But when she saw it got so much of a reaction and then heard and saw the reactions to Roberta, she REALLY got interested in the story behind it all, knowing it has to be juicy gossip.

I am too loving the performance of Alexis Ayala. I think we should call him SevyRoth in this one ,or Seviper :)

As for Miss Cynthia i am not very impressed with her,at best she would most likely bore me.It is my first time watching her.

I told you Rene Stickler was a Sean Bean and no one believed me :,now you have it the generosity of proof:)

Or call him SevyRott ,that way the Sephiroth from heavens will not be able to sue the director for copyright infrigiment !

By the way here is his theme song, it would fit him nice :)

Considering his injury, Sever might work.

I propose we stick with full and unadulterated names for at least the premiere week, though. I do like that a lot of the names can be shortened and still remain clear. (Pru, Sev, Ray for example.) I may still need to type out Dominga and Roberta.

Say what you will about the show that shall not be named, but at least the names were easily shortened and still obvious.

Sara, yes, please - hope everyone stays with full names! So hard at the beginning to keep everyone straight!

Diana

I almost wonder if we should do it for two weeks. We've still got characters coming. For instance Raymundo's brother... I've already forgotten his name. I definitely need to have the names repeated over and over! Lol

Lots of great, unusual names in this tn too (Severiano, Aldondza), so keeping things as close as possible to their real names will be helpful.

Roberta needs an ANVIL hard!

What kind of woman does that ?

Vivi- I forgot to thank you for the thoughts on Prudencia and the waterfall.

Hey, Diva! Thank you for double duty and I shall use this recap as a reference with all the names and such. Yes, we're off to a nice start. I think the warning about darkness has helped me: not a bit shocked or dismayed over the two murders. I knew poor Padre was a goner when he intimated he would not stay silent about Severiano enjoying his chippie in the church! And poor Raymundo! I don't think they will but Roberta needs to be big-time haunted for what she did! Eh! Probably wouldn't phase her.

I don't know the Roberta actress like many of you. I can see she's well thought of. She and everybody else are doing a nice set up in the time warp.

Thanks, again Diva! Ahhhh! How nice to have a new story!

Advice to Raymundo: Don't take a knife to a gun fight.

David

Raymundo - Roberta I'm so sorry for being clumsy, my back hitting your bullet

Candela - I feel like a kite in this dress

Roberta - yep, I got legs all way up to my ass

Severiano - Visine gets the red out

Padre Sixto - nex -t

Prudencia - gawd, I'm bored

Adelina - plain jane

Humberto - yep boss, you want dumb, meet Dumberto

"Visite gets the red out."

HAHAHAHA!

I'm already relishing future lists.

CorazonSalvaje(; could you email me, please? The address is in my profile. Thanks!

Did Roberta shot Ray on purpose or was it an accident?

Hmm. Good question. IMO it was aimed and intended for Raymundo. He was the only one armed (lol.... Severiano was just one armed) and Ray was looking to harm Severiano.

Now I'm not sure if she was shooting to kill or just trying to get him to back off.

Well, she picked up the gun, aimed it at his back, and pulled the trigger...doesn't sound like an accident to me. She might have been in an agitated/discombobulated state, but the intent was to stop Ray from hurting Sev, and she chose to do that by pulling the trigger of a gun. She could have...jump on his back, hit him over the head with the butt of the gun, run for help, jumped in front of Sev. I don't know, but lots of other things. But she chose instead to shoot her husband to stop him from hurting her lover.

She could have also yelled out to him that she had a gun and would shoot him if he didn't stop. That would have given him enough pause to allow Sev to scamper away. I'm sure I could think of plenty of other things she could have done instead of immediately pulling that trigger.

And I keep coming back to tofie's comment about the "wtf face". He really did have that. Excellent job by Rene Strickler.

Now my question about the scene- does anyone else think that Severiano was planning to shoot Roberta before Raymundo showed up? Or were they just trying to call attention to the gun?

Gracias, J! I noticed the phones, as well...I think one was even rotary. Be still my heart! I agree that all the shenanigans of this show are very relaxing after what we just went through, as odd as that sounds!

Gracias, David! Oh, yes, I noticed the thighs. I admit I'm awed and jealous. Susana is gorgeous, and she's just so unapolagetically sexy in this role, I can't help but be fascinated by her.

Gracias, susanlynn! "ants in her pants and bees in her bonnet" yes! Absolutely! She just has so much energy, and it's fabulous!

Gracias, Diana! I agree, Severiano's face, with the low lighting and the closeup on just one eye...and did that eye get progressively redder as the choking went on?...it was really well done!

CountxAlacran, thanks for your input. Glad you're enjoying Alexis' work.

Sara, Diana, Vivi, I'm not good with nicknames or things like texting shorthand. I type what I'm thinking, so until a nickname naturally suggests itself and I start to think of someone that way all the time, it's not going to make it into the recap. A lot of these names don't have a shortened version--or, at least, I haven't heard any of the characters shorten each other's names.

Lol, Steve! What kind of woman? A baaaaaaaaaaaaad one :D

Gracias, Lila! I'm guessing the murders will slow down now, otherwise they're going to run out of characters! Hopefully, the snogging will continue at the same rate--snogging is a renewable resource!

"Roberta I'm so sorry for being clumsy, my back hitting your bullet" tofie, priceless! Oh, well, that's what he gets for making her swear on his life. Talk about asking for trouble!

Eli, I agree with Sara and Vivi that she shot him on purpose. Or, at the very least, that it was her intention to shoot him. I think there was a bit of surprise on her face, as if even though she knew what pulling the trigger would do, she didn't think it would actually work. (I once punched my brother in the face and broke his glasses. I was completely shocked. I totally meant to punch him, I just didn't think my punch would land. I figured he would get out of the way!)

Sara, I was thinking that Severiano was planning to shoot Roberta after one last roll in the literal hay. Mr. 5ft thought so as well. His reasoning was that if Severiano wants to cover his tracks and Roberta won't keep her mouth shut, then there's only one way to deal with her. Now that he has Humberto around to help him with the medical end of covering up murder, why not? Though, wouldn't the funeral home notice something as blatantly obvious as a gunshot wound? Did they not notice the Padre's strangulation marks or were they paid not to notice?

Since Severiano said he would take care of the funeral I expect that included bribing the mortician.

I also thought that Sev had every intention of shooting Roberta in the barn. The look on his face as he fondled his gun when she came in said it all. He had that same look on his face right before he killed the padre. The nookie beforehand was just going to be the bonus.

I thought the same Sara, when he grabbed the gun gonna shoot Roberta

We are talking about nookie, guns and murder. This show is making me so happy. I'm going to hell.

Well, now Severiano got something on Roberta (though you'd think he would be grateful) and she on him. They are made for each other

Sara- Don't forget to add machetes and adultery.

On Monday I kept thinking that it would be really interesting if Roberta was suffering from postpartum depression (not that women who suffer from this shot their husbands) but I thought it would be something we have not seen before.

I just "squeed". OUT LOUD.

Damn Premios lo nuestro. I would much rather be watching this.

That would be interesting, Eli!

I wish I knew more about Roberta and Raymundo. Did he misrepresent himself or his wealth? Or did she have unrealistic expectations? I suspect the blame is with her.

Ray doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would lie about how much money he has. I suspect she heard hacienda, land, waterfall, owner, and that was enough to make her think she'd be living like a queen. And she is! That house lovely and their land is amazingly beautiful. Even if things don't work out with their harvest, they could charge admission to that waterfall and make money.

What Ray said: I love you, Roberta. I don't have much. I comfortable hacienda, relatively productive land and a gorgeous waterfall. It's not much, but you'll always have my love, food and a nice house.

What Roberta heard: blah blah blah HACIENDA blah blah LAND blah blah blah.

She didn't even give a hoot about the waterfall.

Roberta needs to take all those ants in her pants and bees in her bonnet (thanks Susanlynn) and help her husband make their hacienda a success. Of course, it's too late for that now.

Haha! Bees in her bonnet... Did I make this up or does Raymundo grow fruit on the hacienda? Those bees could come in handy.

Roberta just killed the golden goose I think. What's she gonna do now?

Sara, I know he grows something but I don't know what :/

Don't worry Eli. I really do make stuff up sometimes. I'm watching another one that takes place on a frutícola so that's probably where I got the idea.

Joaquin, Raymundo's ranch hand referred to it as the best "huerto" in the region so he could be growing vegetables or have an orchard?

Thanks, Lila! Especially for another name! His name had escaped me and I just kept thinking "that guy that likes Adelina."

Which reminds me to thank you again Diva since you managed to get Mr Dominga's name.

http://masquetelenovelas.blogspot.com/2015/02/la-telenovela-la-vecina-iniciara-sus.html?m=1

OK so in Mexico, the new Lucero Suarez show starts May 25 plus some confusing stuff.

Kat - Thank you so much. Loved the recap.

This IS moving along pretty well. We've had some great episodes and it is only the first week.

I'm also bummed there is no show tonight. I'm dying to see what happenes next.

I was shocked when Roberta shot Raymundo. I knew Ray was gonna die eventually but I had a feeling it would be by the hands of Sev and not Roberta. Poor Raymundo. I'm going to miss him.

Looking forward to Friday.

I also loved the scene with Dominga and Prudencia in the room when Dominga catches Prudencia trying on Candela's jewlery. I'm loving Dominga. She's sassy!

Gracias, Mauricio! It does seem ironic that it was Severiano's gun, that I assume he knows how to shoot, and he only got Raymundo in the leg...while Roberta, who probably barely knows one end of a gun from the other, manages to kill him with one shot.

Ray's brother is Jeronimo.

Yes! Jerónimo! Thanks Mauricio!

Now keeping my fingers crossed that Candela has the hots for him. More sin!

Vivi..YOU could have thought of other things to do instead of actually pulling that trigger, but Roberta is a loose canon..impulsive, impetuous ...not to mention jittery due to those ants and bees. She is the type of person who acts before thinking and leaps before looking. Roberta is cra-zy...and horny.

Okay..Let's all say it together as we jump into this new novela..JERONIMÔOOOOOOO

Omg. Susanlynn said horny. Lol!

I love you susanlynn.

Missed two episodes so loved your recap, Diva. And enjoyed all the comments. Getting a good grip on the novela.

Thanks.

Ann-NYC

Ha...Sometimes I say worse words. I try to keep my frisky side under wraps here at caraycaray. In real life, I can be a little cra-zy...and salty.

P.s. Could the theme song be changed to ''Don't Go Chasing Waterfalls?',

susanlynn, we're a real loose crowd and my hair is down

Noooo! Susanlynn I have an image of you I want to protect! Don't tell me you're salty (though I would love that side of you too.)

And I've been humming that tune all day.

Don't go chasing cheating hos...

Gracias, Ann-NYC! Glad I could help you get caught up.

OMG, all these unladylike women running around here! Thank goodness...or I would have thought I'd walked into the wrong conversation!

With Humberto on Severiano's payroll the town's murder rate is bound to drop. Suddenly everyone will be dying of natural causes left and right.

I almost (almost) feel bad for Dumberto. He's so weak.

I'm not sure what he expected to happen when he confronted Severiano. Maybe they don't really know each other that well. Did he think Severiano would admit to killing the Padre? Or try to blame someone else? Was he just fishing to see if maybe there was another explanation so he didn't have to ponder that he's living under the same roof as a murderer? Did he want money? He was just bold enough to challenge him, but not bold enough to sustain the challenge. He seems like he's basically a nice guy who's going to do all the wrong things and spend the whole show being eaten up by his conscience.

Sara...I do not want to burst any bubbles, but I have been known to have a colorful vocabulary when a bee gets in my bonnet.....especially when discussing my ex soninlaw with my besties (most of them are high school teachers...English and Spanish...who are also pretty salty and irreverent.) Have you ever heard the expression ''Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?''

P.S. Science fair duty...that brings up a lot of baaad memories for me.

Thank you for the recap, 5ft. Seve and Roberta are two bad apples. Killing a priest! Yikes..... And that Roberta leaving her baby alone for several hours? Bad mother!

Susanlynn- you've shared a little about the ex son-in-law. I would be a veritable salt lick in that situation.

I think teaching can make you salty. I am very patient and helpful and nice with my students (no matter their behavior) but it does tire me out so I get a little salty and impatient with non - students sometimes.

I love doing Science Olympiad. The kids are so enthusiastic.

Doris- aside from our rotten fruit, are you liking the show so far?

Gracias, doris! I know the baby is small and can't make it out of the crib on her own, but good grief! I'm glad Adelina decided to stay so the kid will have someone looking out for her.

And not important really, but Roberta smokes. Did she smoke while pregnant? Probably.

The smoking bothered me. And I guess Raymundo doesn't like it or she wouldn't have made such a fuss about hiding the ashtray, but come one...like he's not going to smell it! I think they have her doing it to emphasize that this is happening in the past. And to emphasize that she's a Woman of Loose Morals...red dresses, cigarettes, rolling in the hay, thigh high stockings...oh yeah, Roberta is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad!

Ah yes... The hiding of the ashtray. There are all kinds of little things like that just I just love. Little details that make me feel like I'm watching real pros.

I love Susana and I love the part she's playing. Someone knows how to use their actors to the fullest. (I'm looking at you producer who shall not be named.)

Doris..Yes, leaving a baby alone like that shows that Roberta is really immature and irresponsible..and self centered. She is not just a randy hellion.

Diva..yes, Roberta's got all the baad girl vices..she reminds me of my high school friend Mary Jane...not a euphemism. MJ was the classic bad girl...but a lot smarter than Roberta who seems very unfocused and slightly unhinged to me. She is loca for Sever and that makes her dangerous..and obnoxious..not just bad and horny. There..I said it again.,

*giggle*

susanlynn, you wild woman, you! I agree, Roberta is very much flying by the seat of her pants...oh, unfortunate choice of words there...I'm not sure she has any.... She's like an addict trying to score another hit. Sometimes I think her antics are about separating Severiano from Candela, while still trying to act like she's not doing it on purpose. If she were a little more focused, she might have been able to pull it off, but instead we've got a dead body in the barn.

Wow! Love this conversation since I looked away. Salty language from Susanlynn. Horny ladies all around. My goodness!

OMG, the other night after the baptism when Roberta was practically blowing smoke in the baby's face. She only started blowing it in the other direction when she saw the look on Adelina's face and she pulled the baby away.

Oh and "Don't Go Chasing Waterfalls" would be perfect! LOL!

Diva..I spent just about every day of 8th grade saying at least once ''Mary Jane , you are going to get me in trouble, '' but that girl was the spotter you wanted when you were vaulting over the horse in gym class. She had a red dress, too..and a temporary cap that occasionally fell out during class. Luckily , she was very pretty..or maybe unluckily. I think that she has been married and divorced three times. They could make a telenovela about her. Like Roberta, Mary Jane was cra-zy.....and horny. That's #3.

You're killing me, susanlynn!

Vivi..Do you think Sara and Diva know about my nicknames for Esteban on LM ? Teehee.

I saw a couple of them... Of course I can't remember them now.

Susanlynn- I only hope you will be as inspired here as you were on LM. Who shall be your muse?

Sara- One of them was Estebone...

That was on the tip of my brain but wasn't sure.

I've got a mind like a steel sieve.

Este-- I'm shocked! Shocked, I tell you! I'm...no, wait, I'm not. It totally fits.

Damn...if you don't have anything nice to say, come sit by me!

Diva..,I have always loved that quote..Dorothy Parker, I believe. It's good to get all that venom released onto these tn characters instead of real folks in your lives.

No kidding! Though, if there was anyone I had to spend time with in real life who made me want to be as snarky as I am about TN characters, I'd be backing away slowly. That is not the kind of drama I need in my life!

Welcome to my world, Diva !

What is up with identifying foods to prove that you are not a robot ?

That's a new one! I always got fuzzy words that didn't really look like words. What was the food, by the way?

We've only had three episodes of this show and I already feel like I'm going through withdrawals from one night without it.

Sara - I'm hanging in there with this one. I know we need this history that is getting set up but I'm ready for the veinte años despues to begin. :-)

I'm about to yell...

OMG MAN I NEED A FIX GIVE IT TO ME MAN I CAN'T GO ON WITHOUT MY FIX MAN.

ahem. So withdrawals.

doris- I am always impatient for the veinte años después! I just hope we don't have to wait long on this one. PSMA took forever.

I can't imagine we'll be waiting any longer than Monday, if even that long. I appreciate them keeping it moving with the setup, and I know this is all important stuff that we'll need to know for later, but yes, let's get to the REAL story and the swimming in waterfalls and the non-adulterous smoochies!

Well, it is called La Sombra del PASADO, so there needs to be a past. :) But it seems like they are speeding through the back story to get us to the resulting screwed up present.

I'm having withdrawals too. I need my Sombra fix.

I'm curious to see what the phones are going to look like in the "future" :D I know that sounds silly.

I'm sure all the adults will still look just about the same, since they didn't try to make them look "younger" just had them in the hair and clothing appropriate for the time, which does look like late '80s, early '90s to me. I'll miss Prudencia's Big Texas Hair. And I'm sure those scapulars will end up being significant, or they wouldn't have made such a fuss about them.

I'm interested in the scapulars too. Will it be like Dam and Elisa's charms in AdP?

5ft - I noticed those corded phones...they were my reminder that this is veinte años anterior. I'm ready for Prudencia to lose the 80s hair although it's not too bad ( compared to Tennessee- and Texas- Big Hair. LOL)

I miss having an hypertext link to this recap on the left column sidebar. Can one of the blog organizers put it there?

Thanks.

I think it's in the works, Gobluefan from OH. :-)

Diva..I have had pictures of food to identify several times in the last few weeks. They show a photo of food (pasta, steak, bre%) and I have to identify that food from about six photos..usually two photos of the food are there. Very odd. Sometimes I do not get a ''test.'' I just check the box indicating that I am not a robot and type in my bnonrobot name.

High today...14, so most local schools have two hour delays.

Whoops..bread

I'm kind of jealous. I don't have any food pictures.

All in favor of spring say aye.

Whoa, Susanlynn! Sounds familiar: our high is going to be 9 and schools were closed yesterday and are closed again today! Brrrrr!

61 the expected high today but plenty of sun, I had to wear socks this morning, 34 buuurrrrr, coldest of the winter last night. Sorry

"get us to the resulting screwed up present" HAA

35? That's shorts and flip flops weather!

;D

DC weather today: High of 18, low of 10, real feel with windchill -12.

34, too!

Lila..Where are you...Buffalo ?

Tofie..ahhhh.pobrecita...I wear socks all the time except when I am in the shower. This has been a very odd winter. Tomorrow will be 28..Sunday 40....then down to 19 Monday. It's like being on a temperature rollercoaster. When I left the house this morning, I was wearing jeans, a turtleneck, a sweatshirt, a scarf, a hooded coat, another scarf, and boots. I could barely move. I NEED spring. I NEED green. Insert big sigh here.

for all the snowbirds yep, but they'll swim in the gulf when it's in the 60's. It's funny those of us live here year round are all bundled up. There's a yoga class every morning on the beach and a big nope for me today but lots of women out there when I walked past.

good morning, Sara. The robot food challenge makes me hungry..except the steaks because I have not eaten red meat in years.

Vivi...Will the cherry blossoms be late this year ? When do they usually appear?

We know a few snowbirds. I hate them. However, I could not live in a hot climate. When In visit my relatives in Florida in the summer, I get very cranky and lethargic from the heat and humidity. I need a moderate climate..somewhere between here and FL...but in reality, I am here to stay or I might end up in Toronto..same weather.

Hello Peeps, just checking in this a.m. for coffee and to catch up. Thank you Diva for helping me "meet" the players in Sombra.

Loved all the comments about the weather all of us peeps are a
enjoying. Can't wait for Spring. Should hit in early July here in Washington.

See you all Tuesday morning.

Susanlynn- It's too early to say if the blossoms will be affected. Depends on if the rest of February is this frigid.

For our friends outside the US reading our weather complaints, we are speaking Fahrenheit, not Celsius. :)

South Florida is the closest approximation in the US to the climate most of my family lives in tropical asia so the heat & humidity bothers me not at all, I stay out of the sun however. I have dear friends, family and long time customers scattered throughout the globe and we post a snapshot of outdoor nearly everyday for comparison. What happens when semi retired and bore easily.

I'm in Michigan, Susanlynn. Our severe wheater alert for low temps was just suspended. We're up to 5 (yes, Fahrenheit)! We're finally warmer than Fairbanks, Alaska! Yaaay!

Lila - I saw that in the news today, about Alaska currently warmer than most of us. Stockholm, Sweden has been warmer than most of the U.S., this past week. Unreal winter weather.

I don't know how you all do it. It was 22 F when I went to work today and I thought I was going to die. I was born in raised in FL. I prefer that climate.

In regard to temperatures, my oldest son spent two tours in Iraq, and claims that temperatures in the 130 degree range are uncomfortable.

David

Hi, Doris. Yah: earned us two "cold days". Kids all home while the sky is a brilliant blue -- easier for any heat to escape our patch of mommy earth -- it's all good: Six months from now people will be moaning about it being in the high 80s!

I am thinking about Roberta a lot today. Maybe OVERthinking about her.

I wonder how much of her bluster is crippling self doubt/low self esteem.

Maybe she goes into every social situation with the attitude of "They are going to hate me anyway, so why not just go for the gold and be a complete scandal?"

Maybe this only makes sense in my head.

well, it is clear and the sun is shining brightly, so at least it is not dark and gloomy here..just c.o.l.d. Our temperatures will be bobbing up and down this coming week ..up to 40 Sunday...then down to 19 Monday and so on. Sleet and freezing rain predicted for Saturday night. I am longing for warm days spent swimming and reading andveasting every meal on the patio.

I am so into this novela, I already saw the episode that I'm recapping on Monday and I'm having performance anxiety because I don't think I can do it justice.

Annnnnd I'd totally forgotten that Alex Sirvent was in this one, eeeeeek!

So you don't thik you'll have to fake your death with this one, Eli? ;-)

Our beloved Blogmom has Sombra listed on the sidebar now.

Chiming in on the weather report...It's cloudy and 69 in Phoenix, heading for a high of 83. Don't hate me. We'll have months of 120-degree weather with lows in the 80s soon enough.

David, I can't imagine 130. Once we get above 115 regularly, I try to hide indoors until it's over.

Sara, Roberta's behavior is self-defeating, for sure. I wonder if what we saw was the first time Raymundo had ever pointed out that if she wants people to give a crap about her, she needs to spend some time with them.

I think you're right that she fooled herself into thinking she was going to be some rich influential woman and then showed up and found out that Candela is actually the queen bee. It's not just the money, though, it's that Candela has fully embraced that this is her role and that as part of it she has to involve herself with the town. I'm sure the random townie approaching her at the funeral wasn't just for the sake of drama--she probably gets asked for help or advice all the time. Was the position at the top of the food chain handed to her? Yep. But she also does things to maintain that position and influence.

Roberta just whines and complains that no one likes her...because that's always such an effective way to make friends! I think she does try to antagonize people on purpose since she's decided they don't like her anyway, and then she's shocked...shocked, I tell you!...that they don't like her.

Gracias, emeraldrose! Well, you'll have the show to keep you warm until July at least :D

Eli, I know it's difficult trying to write a recap while swooning, but I have faith in you!

I definitely think Candela loves her view from the top. She doesn't find it a burden at all and regularly uses her position to manipulate everything in her favor.

She seems a little pissy about not having the waterfall and I'm sure that doesn't help Roberta's case at all.

The above was all conjecture on my part.

I also wonder about Roberta and hope that we find out more of her background as the show continues.

No, I do not think I'll be faking my death on this one.

On the weather front it is like 78 out here, and it's sure to warm up later.

Candela's little speech about how she wants their son to have a beautiful, quiet place where he can be alone and think as her justification for wanting the waterfall was hilarious. Build him a treehouse. Or don't go into his room without knocking. But nooooooooo, that's not good enough for her little prince...he needs a waterfall!

What is up with the waterfall ? Are they status symbols in Mexico? Couldn't Candy just put a pool in her backyard ?

susanlynn-I confess I don't quite get the "big deal" about the waterfall. I may have missed something but it doesn't seem like both hacienda owners need it for the water rights or anything.

It is being treated like is is a gorgeous "thinking place." Hardly worth all the trouble.

Diva-I love your interpretation. It did seem ridiculous.

Someone might have mentioned that it's the source of Raymundo's water? Did I imagine that? Do waterfalls serve some sort of natural purification function so that even if Severiano has his own source of water, it's not as good as Raymundo's? Severiano only seems to care about getting his hands on El Santuario because Candela wants it, so if there's some practical reason to have it, I would expect him to be more aggressive about it.

susanlynn, I think they probably have enough money to have someone build them a pool that looks like a natural waterfall and a pond. And with all of Sev's influence, they could probably get it for cheaper than buying the real thing.

I guess El Santuario, despite the "El," is our real protagonista for this show...everybody wants her and nobody really knows why.

Yes. I do vaguely remember some mention of the waterfall as Raymundo's water source.

As far as Severiano and Candela go...maybe they just want it because they do?

For my next question: Am I reading too much into Raymundo's saying more than once that he can really only trust Jeronimo (his brother) and Adelina (his sister-in-law)...he doesn't include Roberta in that.

It's not just the waterfall but also the vast amounts of land that Raymundo has that Severiano and Candela are after.

Sara, well, he really can't trust Roberta, after all she shot him!

Yes I know that I am late to the party but isn't it better late than never they always say.

Time to start some controversy if Roberta hasn't started enough already. But first---well a few things first.

A BIG thank you Diva for TWO recaps to help us patio peeps get up to date.

Vivi---You managed to lighten thing up a little with the two murdered priests possibly playing a friendly game of dominos up in heaven. That sounded good.

Tofie---LOL Wallering in lust and murder instead of mi amors.

Diva---Rather be laughing with sinners than crying with the saints. Oh my! The patio's getting dark.

J in Oregon---Lust, murder, betrayal and only three nights. Yes, we've had a lot in just three nights haven't we. I think that the mi amors are coming though.

Watch yourself David, that was a near slip up.

I agree with you Diva, I can't hate Roberta even now. Perhaps it's an affection for the actress but I'm not ready yet to stone her. Me either even after what she did. How can you hate the excellence of Susana Gonzalez? She makes it VERY HARD to dislike her even when she's bad.

OK OK---Now some controversy.
Sara, not too long ago women were smoking while pregnant. Thousands of them, millions of them. Roberta is/was no different. Was it a good thing? No but things have gotten way out of control today when people scream that they are going to die when someone passes them on the sidewalk while smoking, or while even in an outdoor park. Cigarettes are even banned in apartments now. Will cars be banned next? Some people are trying to ban perfume and cologne.

When I was in grades 1--2--and 3 my sister and I lived in freezing cold winter Chicago. Time after time we would have to dig the car out of the snow before we could be on our way. Needless to say when we were on our way, the heater was on and all of the windows were closed tight while mother and father, both heavy smokers would be puffing away. In the house it would be the same thing. End of story---both my sister and I grew up very healthy.
I myself don't smoke and I do not like cigarettes but if I am around
them, I don't think that it is a big thing at all.

Oh Sara---You would rather have had La Sombra than Premios lo Nuestro. Did you see goddess Maite
as a hostess doing interviews on the show last night? She was so beautiful with a new look that I almost didn't recognize her.

Back to bad Roberta tonight.
the gringo

LOL, gringo-My mother smoked through all of her pregnancies.

I did see Maite and thought fondly of you gringo. I hoped you were watching. She did look lovely.

Eli- No, Raymundo couldn't trust her. I guess I just found it sad that at the time he said it (pre being shot) he really didn't trust her. What a sad marriage they must have had.

I just remembered too...during the baptism, Roberta started complaining about "the other baptism" and Raymundo saying "don't pay her any mind, padre."

Roberta didn't even hold the child at the baptism. Adelina did.

But like gringo, I love the actress so much that I can't completely hate the character.

Gracias, gringo! It's possible I like Susana even better when she's bad.

I don't remember the context of Raymundo not trusting Roberta. We all know all the really big stuff she did, but I wonder what he knew. Was she just sort of generally careless, like she burned the toast and shrunk his undies in the wash and lost the house keys all the time?

Should Raymundo be dead, is Roberta the heir to the familial lands? Is it Jeronimo his brother the priest or the daughter Aldonza and is she even Raymundo's biological daughter or Severiano's? If Roberta is, does she tease Severiano with the possibility of selling for a lotta sumpin, sumpin?

Whatever the reason Raymundo didn't trust Roberta he was correct. Hello bullet.

Well, Roberta just doesn't give off a real dependable vibe, even if you love her like Ray and Adelina do.

Even though I brought it up, I think we can put to rest the question of Aldonza being Sev's kid, because 1) Roberta would have brought it up by now to Sev to blackmail him or force his hand; and 2) that would mean Cris isn't Sev's kid, and it's really hard to picture Cadela stepping out on Sev.

Typo-- Candela.

I agree, Vivi. Roberta would have used it as leverage if Aldonza is really Sev's daughter, and I don't think there are any guys in town worthy of Candela's attention. They haven't even shown Severiano as having any peers/friends...all the guys in town are either on his payroll or want to be. Or are members of the clergy. Or dead. Or both.

I think that Ray did not trust Roberta because of that red dress and those garters...and perhaps because she was always dashing frantically about like a chicken with its head cut off.

Add me to the list of children whose mothers smoked. My dad also smoked , and I had lots of respiratory illnesses including whooping cough growing up. Our family doctor gave me lots of penicillin shots.I never be smoked and hated the smell of smoke, but my sister did until she was diagnosed with emphysema right after her 50 year old husband died of lung disease. My dad died at 80. My mother who smoked since she was a teen, ate whatever she wanted, and never exercised, lived to be 90. She was sharp as a tack and feisty as hell to the very end. Her sister who gave up smoking at an early age, lived to be 96..also clear as a bell. You just never know.

Smoking is such a polemic issue, I don't think we're going to get anywhere using personal anecdotes to support our ideas about whether it's "good" or "bad."

On that note, I want to be clear that if anyone out there is in the habit of wearing red dresses, thigh-high stockings, smoking, leaving your children alone in cribs while you wait for your lover in barns, etc. please don't take any criticisms of Roberta personally. If you want to know what I or anyone else thinks about you, then ask...but don't assume that someone's opinions about a character or their behavior would likewise apply to you because you have something in common with that character! That's just a losing proposition that leads to a lot of needlessly hurt feelings.

So is Ray's brother going to arrive in tonight's episode ? I wonder how they are going to deal with dead Ray? Perhaps he will be buried under the waterfall.

P.s.I just got another food test..I am asked to identify all the photos of pizzas. I will take a close look at the pizza hubby just brought home before I answer.

It's like a gameshow...to win this fabulous waterfall, identify these pizzas in 30 seconds annnnnnnnnd...go!

I'm predicting waterfall nookie, so I hope that's not where the bury Ray. For his sake.

I don't have a thing in common with Roberta. Didn't smoke...cigarettes, no babies, one wine red dress (it a formal number and not billowy) but does show some cleavage, never owned a pair of thigh highs (but my mother did). I admit to some very short skirts, clogs and copious eyeshadow in the 70's and a pantsuit & jumper or two.

Never shot your husband to keep him from machete-ing your lover? No...wait...don't answer that!

It's like one of those quizzes...How Roberta Are You?

I'd probably test something like 10% Roberta and 90% Adelina. Or maybe we'll find out that Adeline is racier than she lets on...I can dream :)

was an insufferable tease, that count

Aw hell. I've worn thigh highs. I've smoked (while pregnant.... I didn't realize! I quit as soon as I knew!) And I've worn a red dress!

I've never shot my husband or cheated.

Ooh..tofie..what an excellent game..what do you have in common with this character?

My turn...we both have dark brown hair and dark eyes...we both have daughters (I have two)...we both have sisters...we both have husbands, but I did not shoot mine...we both have spent time in barns (me petting litters of puppies and Roberta rolling in the hay\straw with Sever)

Who's next ?

Me either. Yet.

What? Kidding, kidding!

uh, I went through a no bra phase and finally admitted it was for attention not protest

All I've got is red dress, thigh highs, fabulous hair, adoring husband, tendency to run around like a chicken with my head cut off... hmmm, maybe I've underestimated my Roberta percentage.

I don't think that I have ever owned a red dress, but I have a red cardigan , red shoes, a red purse, and several red cardigans,,,not the same, right ? Red is Hub's favorite color...so...maybe I should buy a red dress.
