Heridas Friday Oct 13

Cesar leaves Gonz’s office believing he has sunk Alejandro’s chances with Miranda by what he told Gonzalo. He just has to learn Bertha’s version of the events from ‘that night.’

The scene where Gabino tells about Alejandro’s fight with El Guapo is loooong. However, this is ok because Pamela is wearing a flimsy low-cut top. The group splits up to take care of various things to secure the house.

Miranda and Pamela go see Florencia and Nuria, who are sitting in a room that is wide open to the outdoors, completely the opposite of what they planned in the previous scene. Nuria says she prefers to be ‘here inside’ since it’s so hot out. This room is basically outside. There are walls, but the doorways are wide open and the ceiling is 50% open to the sky. Is there some magic air conditioning that keeps this cooler than ‘outside?’ There are sun rays shining through the whole room. Argh. For some reason this drives me crazy. Anyway, Pamela and Miranda run off to the library.

Fernanda comes into Amparo’s kitchen, anxious for news about Carola’s interview. Carola isn’t back yet. Amparo invites her to stay for dinner, Renata is going to cook it! They talk about her, how she shared her money with the family, she is cooking and taking part in everything. Fernanda feels vindicated, “I knew it! I knew she wasn’t a bad person! It was Bertha’s influence.” She believes this is just one step short of Renata accepting her as her mother.

Daira is telling Alejandro that she doesn’t know where Lasagna went. Renata and the other girls don’t know where she is, Alejandro knows how easily influenced Lasagna can be so he’s worried, they’ll just have to wait until they hear from her. Luciano arrives and says his contacts have news of Bertha, everything Alejandro suspected is true.

Fernanda meets Charo at an outdoor café. Charo tells her about the envelope she found and what Tomasa said in the letter.

Luciano tells Alejandro that there will be a show in Paris featuring Alfredo Luque’s designs, and something about how they are all owned by Berth de Aragon. Alejandro flips out, “No puede ser!” He says first thing in the morning they are going to Paris.

Miranda and Pamela discuss Nati’s chocolate. Miranda says they are going to Mexico in the morning, if she doesn’t get married right away she feels like it will never happen.

Ha ha Luciano asks a frantic Daira “what about the harmony of Feng Shui and all your yoga?” Alejandro says right now none of that will work. Miranda calls Alejandro’s cell phone and they discuss the whole El Guapo deal. Miranda tells Al “don’t tell anyone what I’m about to tell you, not Daira, Lasagna, nobody. The only one here who knows is Pamela” Pamela, who has been sitting calmly in the background looking pretty as always. She tells Alejandro that she’s coming back in the morning for them to get married. That’s the big secret? Whoop de doo.

Charo tells Fern more about how she found the envelope and how evil Bertha is. They also discuss how crazy the idea of Lucas killing Tomasa was. Fern comforts her, telling her she did the right thing, she had no choice but to do what Bertha said.

Al, like any man, says “uh uh tomorrow? That’s not what we talked about.” But in the end he says sure, whatever you want. He gets off the phone and Daira says “something happened?” Al replies “oh uh things at the hacienda, you know.” Then he tells Luciano, who just finished making the plans for Paris, to cancel the whole thing. He’s not going to travel tomorrow. He leaves without explanation. Daira and Luciano are a bit stunned and try and figure out what’s going on.

Cesar gives Sanson some instructions about what they’ll be doing in the near future. Sanson is remarkably servile for being the leader of a gang before.

Miranda announces to everyone that they’ll return to Mexico in the morning. She says it’s for everyone’s safety.

Roman arrives at Cesar’s place. They talk about a couple things I didn’t quite catch, then Roman tells Cesar to leave everyone alone that lives near Fernanda and Francisco’s family. Cesar grabs him but Roman pulls a gun on him and tells him “calm down!” Cesar says he paid Roman for a job he didn’t do and he owes him. About Nuria, she is registered at her school as the natural daughter of Bertha de Aragon. Roman says “now we’re even.” Roman leaves. Cesar calls Sanson and tells him that the ‘estupido’ left, follow him and kill him. That’s what he was hired for. Then he tells him self that Nuria is Bertha’s illegitimate daughter and he’s the only one who knows!

Francisco calls a family meeting to announce something important. Renata is in the kitchen cooking, the rest of them are all in the living room sitting around. Francisco does a president Vicente Fox impression first, then after a full minute of “good news, really this is good news” he says that they are going to have a car. They all go nuts. From what I can tell, Francisco is going to have a taxi to drive. They are all excited, they all want to learn to drive. Renata smiles at their excitement after first not understanding. The smile seems genuine, the first time I’ve seen that look on her face.

Carola prays for good luck on her first day of work the next day, I think. I don’t think it is still the interview, I believe it’s the job. I may be wrong.

The family is still going nuts about having a car, Renata goes back to the kitchen and Amparo follows her. Amparo explains that they never had a car before. She then tells Renata that she admires her strength in adjusting to the new situation and she’ll help her with anything she needs. Renata says good, help me convince Juan that…. She is interrupted by Juan calling them back to the other room where they are all laughing and having a good time. Francisco tells Renata that she is like a good luck charm, since she came good things have happened and she is a daughter to him now. She flashes back to Gonz telling her that he cancelled her credit cards after her drug problem. Then another flashback to Bertha telling her how everything is her mother’s fault, why she has a bad relationship with her father. Back to Francisco’s long hug, she starts crying, I think happily, at being part of a family for real.

Gonzalo is at home thinking over what Cesar told him before, trying to figure it out. He realizes that Bertha is the only one who knows everything.

Pamela asks Miranda if she’s sure, Miranda says more sure than anything ever. Pamela has decided to keep wearing the flimsy tank top, which I appreciate. Wait, it’s not for me, it’s still THE SAME DAY. Two of the worker women enter, one younger, the old lady is Nati. The younger one says that cocolbosh is a special delicious recipe of some sort made from cocoa plants, only some of the old people know how to make it, I think the old lady here knows how, this I’m sure will save the day for the San Llorentes. Cripes, it isn’t even some special method for processing the chocolate, it’s some new age positive energy/charka/feng shui thing. Something about having the right energy in your body when you process the cocoa. Can you say Deus Ex Machina? “crap we’re in a hole here, what can we do?” “how about if they align the chakras of the cocoa trees?” “BRILLIANT.”

Renata presents dinner, to great applause. Francisco lectures his son Joel, I think, on how to talk to a lady after some rude remark. Everyone starts eating slowly, it appears that the food sucks, turns out they are in shock about how good it is. They all dig in, Renata is happy. I don’t know why I’m enjoying the rehabilitation of Renata so much, I’m so cynical about everything else, but her storyline really appeals to me. I have absolutely no idea why.

We see Gonzalo eating alone fade to the Francisco family all together and happy, to show the contrast, then back to lonely old Gonzalo leaving the dinner table. As Charo comes in to clean up, she decides that if she stays she’ll go crazy, so she’s going to leave without telling anyone.

Nati tells Miranda about the fantastic tantric method of processing chocolate. Florencia comes in saying she has a problem, she’s bleeding and something is happening with her baby! Perhaps she hasn’t realized yet that she can’t possibly be pregnant and keep that nice slim body. Who knows what alternate reality her mind is in. She stands there staring into space, like she’s trying to see back into our dimension.

Lasanga is on the phone with Al, he’s yelling at her to tell him where she is so he can come and talk. She’s at Cesar’s place but won’t tell him. She says it’s all his fault, she wants to die. Cesar takes the phone away from her to hear Al say that he’s going to get everything back from Bertha, don’t be stupid. Cesar hangs up the phone. He asks Lasagna what documents? She tells him everything. “Bertha is now the owner of our entire fortune!” Cesar twitches.

Miranda tries to take care of Flor. She calls Fabricio. Pamela and the equally fine and equally flimsy tank top wearing Nuria breeze in first, hello ladies, then Fab comes in, in a panic, to see what’s going on. Fab rushes of for a doctor. For tells Miranda to call Fernanda.

Lasagna explains everything further to Cesar about the portfolios. He flashes back to looking through the portfolio and finding nothing but pictures of jewelry.

Renata and family continue their happy meal, Fernanda shows up. They tell her that Renata made the food, Fern says good for you! Renata won’t look at her and says she’s leaving to go to bed. Fern says wait, then her phone rings, it’s Miranda to tell about Florencia. Miranda puts Flor on the phone. Renata grabs Juan to talk in the other room, I think she’ll try and convince him to go to the hacienda to help. In the other room, she calls Alejandro because he can get them to Tabasco right away. She tells Al what’s up, he says they’ll go right now. Al runs out to tell Daira and Luciano what’s going on and to make preparations. Al leaves. Renata and Juan tell Fern that Al is on the way. Renata begs Fern to save Flor’s baby. Fern says “you don’t understand fully what I’m telling you, but I would give my own life to save Flor and her baby.”

Lasagna the dumbass wants to stay with Cesar, he convinces her that she should leave. He pumps her for information and says maybe Al will try and take her back to Italy. She says she’ll just say she has to stay to get married with Cesar. “whoa whoa whoa no that wouldn’t be a good idea.” He says because he wouldn’t be accepted in the family. Whatever. She believes it all. Dumbass.

Ugly Bettys, Letys, Lottes, etc. of the world

I posted this to my Ugly Betty recaps blog, but thought it might be of interest here too. This cool feature from Entertainment Weekly is a tour of all the versions of "Yo Soy Betty, La Fea" around the world.

The amount of ugliness varies widely from country to country, and I'm sure there are cultural factors at play that I don't know about, making some Bettys uglier than they may appear to US eyes. I find the one from Spain particularly frightening, and her Armando/Fernando/whatever particularly handsome. YMMV. Enjoy!

Mundo de Fieras - Friday, 10/13/06

Jos has just found her mother in her office and was telling Miriam it was strange that she had her cell off and couldn’t be located. Miriam is very uncomfortable after having gotten a little bit of “afternoon delight” with Demian and swears to her daughter that she would never hide a thing from Jos. Jos just keeps on looking her in the eyes and doesn’t believe a word.

Demian, for his part, is coming back from his bit of nookie with Miriam and should be feeling more generous of spirit, but when the supposed nun calls out to him he says don’t look for any donations from him. "We don’t give alms to the poor here." The nun asks, “Don’t you remember me, Demian?” He stops and stares and is surprised to see Dolores in a habit and out of prison. “Yeah, ok. Dolores. I’ve come back to recover my son and to find out who killed Edgar.”

Gabe finally sees Mariangela crossing the street in town somewhere and asks her what she’s doing. She tells him she’s been looking for work and doesn’t feel comfortable returning to the mansion to work for him, so not to make it any more difficult than it is now that Luisito and Don C found her and begged her to think about coming back there. Gabe begs her too. He needs her. HE needs her, too. (Puh-leese! Have some dignity. She must be Paulina’s age or less! Can we say ‘mid-life crisis’ here?)

Demian starts laughing and smirks, “So where’s the costume party?” (Great line, and a great delivery from Cesar, as always.) Dolores refuses to be intimidated (that habit is working its magic on her) and says she isn’t going to give him any explanations. Delores says, "I want to see my son, Tiberio. I want to see our son." Demian refuses, saying since he thinks his mother is dead, and since Delores is an ex-con, a murderess and such, it just wouldn’t be suitable. Delores spits back that it is all a lie and she will prove it.

Gabe is still trying to beg Mariangela to come back to the mansion for his sake and she says, no. What happened between them is impossible to let go further since he’s a married man. Eventually she gets tired of this sing-song and runs off embarrassed and frustrated.

Back in his office, Demian is lost in thought over Delores’ return. He knows she means trouble and wonders if she’s really taken the vows of a nun. He figures it will be very amusing her proving that!

Delores returns to the nuns’ chapel and, with wonderful strains of (I believe) Albinoni’s Adagio in G Minor in the background, prays that the Lord will illuminate the way to her son’s heart.

Mariangela returns to Leo and Candy’s house when perky Teresa returns and reminds her that she’s nothing more than a mooch.

Gabe returns home and Jos glides over and offers lunch in a most (irritatingly) cloyingly sultry voice. He ignores her and runs upstairs to Luisito’s room. The two talk about how they all failed to get her to come back. (This boy cries, I swear, anytime anybody says a word to him.) When Jos comes in and asks what the great tragedy is, Gabe tells her their son is upset that Mariangela won’t come back. Lui says he loved her from the moment he met her and that she and he got along so well. He bawls and screams, “Why did you have to run her off, Mommy?”

Mariangela sits in the small living room at Candy’s and remembers her mother’s words to return to the care of Don Clemente at the mansion house. She cries as she remembers Little Lui’s visit with Don C, begging her to come back with them. She prays for direction and cries over her mother’s sickness.

At the Alzheimer’s hospice Don Clemente is visiting with Aurora and again she’s in a state in which she doesn’t recognize him except as the man telling her the most beautiful love story she’s ever heard. He continues his love story that is really their history and we find out how the two fell in love back in the day.

Pedro is still typing very late into the evening in his huge bedroom suite when Diana walks in and starts chatting with him. He tells her he’s finishing and besides, his hands are hurting. So she picks up his hand and looks as if she’s going to massage it when her husband, Rogelio walks in on the two of them. Rogelio accuses them of having a lover’s tryst behind his back and threatens the two of them not to try anything further because it is so obvious to him that Pedro is in love with Diana. He leaves and Pedro, embarrassed for the two of them, tells Diana not to worry about this since Rogelio is only boasting in front of him and wouldn’t do anything.

Delores is praying still at the chapel and the Mother Superior comes in. Delores asks her for guidance and says she’s resigned to living a life of pain, but she doesn’t want her son to suffer because of her. (Of course, if she only knew what a worthless creepy jerk he’s become thanks to his real father, Demian.......)

Speaking of Tiberio, he’s literally wining and dining Belan, Simona’s daughter, at lunch. The animal is eagerly waiting to see her get tipsy and lose control of her good judgement. In fact, Belan warns him she’s not used to drinking alcohol, but he insists. Belan tries to please her new boss. Unfortunately, for him, she passes out there at the table before they get to order and he’s forced to take her home to her momma. He lies and says it must have been something she ate. (I’m thinking, just smell the alcohol on her, Simona!)

Diana enters her bedroom suite and finds her husband making a date with another one of his “entries” in his still current, little black book. Disgusted, she walks out and sits down on the living room couch when Gabe walks in and sees her staring woefully at a photograph of Rogelio. She apologizes for being the cause of such a scandal, but Gabe tells her he knows someone warned the media just to kick up such a fuss and that was not her fault. He asks if she’s still in love with his son. Diana says yes, but with the way he despises her so she’s uncertain of things. Gabe assures her that if she wants to divorce Rogelio some day he’ll back her and make sure she is taken care of. She says not to worry, she doesn’t have the courage to leave and Rogelio would prevent it in any event. (This is definitely another woman who needs to get her priorities straight! Take the money, honey, and RUN!)

At the cabstand, the guys are listening to Mayeya’s story about the couple she had as a fare, and how she beat the boy up with her shoe when he told his girlfriend that she could only prove her love for him by letting him take her to bed. Leo and the guys told Mayeya they couldn’t believe her attitude, but Leo says she did the right thing by chasing him off and refusing to take the couple to the hotel. “Those men are not men, only cowards!”

Ingrid and Miriam are returning home and they pass Rogelio as he is leaving. Ingrid stops Rogelio and rubs herself all over him like a purring cat begging to be petted (in more ways than one). “Wow, what a scent!” Miriam just ignores it all and continues reading her mail. He looks disgustedly at Ingrid and walks out the door. Miriam keeps on reading her mail while telling Ingrid not to have any illusions about Rogelio, that he’s too particular a man to ever be interested in the likes of her. "So, don't even think about it!" She walks off towards her office with Ingrid frowning and stomping angrily, following behind. (Perfect deadpan delivery in this scene from Helena Rojo!)

Leo and Candy are dreaming of his graduation day. Leo is also wondering about his real mother and why she abandoned him.

Miriam calls Karen in Barcelona to see if she’s finished the job she was sent to do. Karen says not yet, but tells her Paulina is on the way back to Mexico and she’ll learn all about it when she arrives. She tells her that Paulina fell in love with Demian’s son, Juan C. This makes Miriam hang up and remember making love with Demian earlier. She confesses to herself that Demian is the only man who’s ever made her feel that way (gets her blood boiling) in bed. If they’d not been so ambitious their lives would have turned out differently (and perhaps they’d be a permanent item?).

Joselyn tries to seduce her husband again, but he’s not in the least bit interested. Pedro saves him by running in yelling excitedly that Paulina has come home from Spain. Gabe races out leaving Jos angrily sulking and frustrated once again.

Downstairs Paulina and Gabe hug and he wants to know why she and her boyfriend broke up. She finally tells him that she and Damian’s son, Juan Cristobal, found out they were first cousins and she is going to try to put him out of her mind and start over. Gabe could tell her the truth, that she’s an adopted daughter but thinks it might cause her too much grief. (Selfishness on his part is more like it.) So Gabe later calls his lawyer, Nicolas, for advice. Nic, of course, suggests he just ignore the truth and suggests Paulina just probably has a simple, passing crush on the kid. Gabe agrees.

In the meantime, Karen pays a visit to Juan C who is thinking about his "Paulina problem". Juan opens the door and in walks Karen. First thing she does is try to play the vamp and drops her dress and tells Juan she’s there to help him forget Paulina. Juan C. looks a bit tempted, but in the end tells her that he’s not going to dirty her memory so quickly. He tells her to “cover up” and get out. She leaves in a pout.

Demian arrives home and finds Regina sitting in her dressing gown in front of her mirror. He tries to seduce her again but Regina begs and pleads for him to leave her alone. She cannot take him near her any more and tells him not to touch her ever again. He answers back that she is his wife and must fulfill her obligation. It can be willingly or forcibly, but she belongs to him. He begins to paw at her again but she breaks away screaming that he’s raped her from the first night they were married. She asks him why he had to and he says he enjoys it that way. They fight at the top of the huge staircase where he accuses her of rather having Gabe in her bed (who wouldn’t?) and she screams to let go of her, twists away, and falls all the way to the bottom, unconscious.

Demian is shocked to see her possibly lying dead at the bottom of the stairs and limps down the staircase pleading for her not to die. He admits how he really loves and idolizes her, but cannot stand how she despises him. This he then blames all on his brother who will never let him be happy. Simona comes running in then and finally he comes to his senses and sends her to call for an ambulance. Then he goes back to crazily telling the unconscious Regina how he needs her to love him and that she is going to love him over and over and over.

Leo, Candy and Mariangela are now eating in their little house. Leo tells Mariangela that his professors have told him her mother has no hope for a cure for this disease. There isn’t one. He hugs her as Teresa walks back in and sees them hugging.

In Spain, Karen swears that she won’t let Juan get rid of her that easily and will make him hers. Juan gets a call from Simona about his mother’s fall and she asks him to return home. He’d just decided to return to Mexico anyway (to find Paulina) and tells Simona he’ll be there first thing.

Gabe then gets a call from Simona about Regina and says he’s going to the hospital immediately. Jos walks in and is upset that he’s going to see Regina, but Gabe insists if she’s trying to become a different person then this is as good a place to start convincing him as any. He leaves and she curses at the thought of Gabe now running off to Regina.

Leo is called in on the case with one of his professors. Regina only says she cannot remember how it happened and only wants to forget. Gabe arrives in the waiting room and Demian immediately yells at him for daring to come.

Jos tells her mother she just isn’t patient enough to continue the farse. Miriam tells her that she won’t accomplish anything without patience and will only drive Gabe away if she harasses Paulina. Jos says she’ll kill Gabe before letting him leave her. Miriam advises her to persevere and continue to pretend being patient. Jos replies that she is not to doubt that she will see Gabe dead before allowing him to be another’s.

La Fea Más Bella #124 10/13/06 The one with the phone calls

Fern's phone rings. He assumes it's Tomas and starts yelling about "what you do with Lety" or words to that effect. His caller interrupts: it's Marcia. She wants to know who Fern thought was calling, that would make him so angry, and notes that he mentioned Lety. He says Lety asked him to help with a problem she was having with some jerk. She disapproves of him getting involved in Lety's personal problems. (He holds the phone away from his ear, as he's often done with Marcia lately; I think one of these days he's just going to put the phone down and leave the room.)

Lety passes through his office. He waits until she goes back into her room before resuming his conversation, but Marcia doesn't wait. She shouts, "Do what you want with Lety, and with whomever else you fancy!" (I think) and hangs up on him. He rolls his eyes.

He stares at the image of Tomas and Lety on his wicked cool Mac for another second or two, then gets rid of it. "It burns," he complains. Just then, Lety comes out of her office. She looks like she's going to say something to him, then changes her mind and goes back into her office and slams the door. Fern brings the image back up and starts playing with the little car on his desk. He mumbles angrily about Tomas being an idiot "with that face" and Lety comes out of her office again, silently tosses a note on his desk, and stomps out of his office. He makes a silly face as he reads it: "See you tomorrow, Don Fernando." He reads it out loud a couple more times in a silly voice (imitating Lety) and crumples it up. He glares at the picture again and speculates that she's probably going to plan her wedding, and then wonders if it's going to take place before his and Marcia's.

Lola is on the phone with PM, who is amazed that El Cheque has agreed to look after the kids, but she still doesn't know what she's going to tell Saimon. Alicia overhears them talking about the "solo para mujeres" show and is intrigued. Lety comes by and wants to leave right away, but Martha has to call Paco (aka Mr. Martha) first.

Paco is watching telenovelas or something and eating popcorn with the kids. Martha tells him that Lola's ex (Lola goes off as usual when he's mentioned) will be coming for the kids. Paco says, "you mean 'el Cheque'? Is it a miracle?" She says since Paco has that meeting with the taxidrivers' union, she's going to a "drinkers anonymous" meeting. (The captions say "tragones" and that's what it sounds like she's saying, but it doesn't make much sense.) After their conversation, Paco wonders if this is that surprise Saimon told him about.

Some time later (I'm telling this slightly out of order), El Cheque gets to Martha's place to pick up the kids. They, especially his own kids, are very happy to see him. In fact, they said that when Paco told them he was coming, they couldn't believe it. (Those poor kids! That's so sad!) He tells them they're going to his house, and he has a surprise. They're all excited. Martha's daughter says they can't leave until Paco gets out of the bathroom. She goes to fetch him. Well, actually she just yells up from the bottom of the stairs - she wants to know if she can go with her friends. Paco yells back that he can't come down, he's in a hurry, but go ahead. El Cheque teases the kids about the surprise.

Back at Conceptos, Saimon comes running into the main lobby with Lety's DVD envelope in his hand. PM tells him she has somewhere to go tonight - a course on bust enlargement. (Really. I can't make up stuff like this.) She demonstrates with that silly exercise that pubescent girls used to (maybe still) do of pushing their hands together to flex their pectoral muscles, but we are spared the accompanying rhyme of "I must increase my bust." They joke about this and then Saimon throws himself into the elevator with the envelope.

After the feas leave the executive suite (to find Irma and talk her into leaving with them), Alicia gloats about knowing their secret and then goes running to Lopez to tattle on them for leaving early. He asks, "don't you have a watch?" She misinterprets this as a sincere inquiry about her jewelry collection and describes her jewel-encrusted watch which she didn't happen to wear today. When she explains her complaint, he is thrilled to have an excuse to fire someone, but when he checks his watch to file the report, he realizes that it's not early at all. It's the official going-home time. It just seems early because they usually work late!

Alicia says he can still get them on scandalous, dirty conduct. (He is tantalized.) The reason they have left "so early" was to go to a "for women only" male stripper revue! He says that's not so bad. He tells her that some people are more conservative than others, and they have the right to be, but honestly, he feels... (Alicia, sensing that the conversation is about to take an icky turn, starts fiddling with her top, trying to cover up some of her cleavage) ...this all-male revue sounds like fun.

He starts taking his coat off slowly, as if for a striptease. Again, I am not making this up. There's cheezy music and everything, and he starts to get into a little dance. Alicia yells at him and tells him not to be ridiculous. (The music fades.) She says perhaps it's fun, but it's not for everyone. And she doesn't approve of the cuartel going to such a show. Lopez agrees - he thinks it will short-circuit their minds. She asks, isn't he going to do something about it? He says here's what he can do: he's going to advise her to go with him. "What nerve," she exclaims, and leaves him alone in his office. Lopez calls Information and asks if there's an "only for men" revue.

At her desk, Alicia says she's going to find a way to get back at those horrible spiders (the cuartel). Just then, Saimon sings and dances through the executive lobby, annoying her further.

Saimon goes into Fern's office. He wants to go into Lety's office, but Fern won't let him. Fern is curious about this secret package that Saimon has for Lety. Saimon won't tell Fern what it is and doesn't want to give it to him, but Fern won't give him access to Lety's office, so Saimon has to give it to him. Fern sees that it's addressed to his parents and asks Saimon what it is. Saimon doesn't know. He says he was supposed to mail it for Lety, but he couldn't because the postal code was missing/incorrect/incomplete. Fern says don't worry about that, he'll take care of it himself. Saimon is concerned ("Lety will kill me!") and advises Fern that it's urgent. Fern tells him to forget about all of this if he wants to keep his job!

In London, Humberto Mendiola can't sleep. He and Teresita are frustrated that they haven't heard from Lety or received any mail yet. (It's only been a couple of hours since they spoke to her! Even express mail isn't THAT fast!!) They're upset that Lety has been so unreliable. She's so competent when it comes to finance, but with other stuff... not so much. They rehash their plan: they want to surprise Marcia and Fernando with a house for their wedding present, but it won't be possible if they don't have that video. They can't wait to see the look on Fernando's face when he finds out they bought them a house.

Saimon is barely out of Fern's office when Fern opens the envelope. Another secret video, eh? He wonders if Tomas is on this one too. Omar calls. He's still at that noisy biergarten place with the two bimbos. He wants to know if Fern has spoken with Tomas yet. The answer is no, and now Fern says he's worried about something else: Lety tried to send a DVD to his parents. He's afraid that on the DVD, maybe Lety explains the entire situation to his parents, about the lien and Filmo-Imagen and all that. (Don't be silly. Why would she do that with a DVD? Why not a letter or phone call?) He pops the DVD into his bitchin' Mac and watches.

Saimon goes down to the main lobby, where Lety, PM, and the feas are waiting for a taxi, and he tells Lety that it went perfectly well, no problems or anything. She asks why he is so nervous. He says he wants to know where they're all going tonight. Martha says she's going to a meeting for Overeaters Anonymous. PM says she's going to her bust-enhancement class. She sticks her chest out, and they all throw up their hands to protect themselves! And they cheer. Saimon asks about Overeaters Anonymous. Martha tells him the autosuggestion diet didn't work, but she needs to lose weight. Irma and Lety don't know where they're going, and Lety says she doesn't want to go increase her bust, and Irma isn't interested in Overeaters Anonymous. (Sara is doing a bust-increasing exercise.) Martha claims that the OA meeting will have a 50-peso all-you-can-eat buffet.

PM says it's time to catch their taxi. Lety asks again where they're going. Winking frantically, PM insists it's to increase their busts, and Juana says just wait and see, it'll be fun. As they file out, Saimon tries to figure out what's fun about a bust-enhancement class or an anonymous buffet.

Saimon is still moping when Paco arrives, dressed to the nines. He's ready to party with Drinkers Anonymous, sadcb.com (there doesn't seem to be anything at that URL). Saimon corrects him: it's Overeaters Anonymous. They try to figure out where the women really went. Eventually they figure out that they've been lied to, and they want to find out the truth.

Watching the DVD, Fern sees footage of houses he doesn't know and hears Lety's voiceover. "Here's that secret information. Your son Fernando does not know anything about what's going on between us." Fern tells Omar to listen. Lety's incredibly morose voice continues, "He is going to die when he finds out about the surprise we are preparing: there are various options. Without obligation, you will decide which is best."

"Did you hear that?" Fern says, pausing the DVD.

"Did she say 'embargo'?" Omar asks. (In this case, "embargo" means obligation, but it's also the word they use when they discuss Filmo-Imagen's lien on Conceptos. Incidentally, "embargo" is also the word for "impoundment" or "seizure," such as will probably happen to Alicia's car soon.)

"Yeah, now shut up" Fern says, restarting the video.

Lety says something that's difficult for me to parse, but goes something like "they are deserving of all of these." She continues, "I am sorry for the delay, but if you need anything else, let me know."

Omar opines that Lety is speaking in code, but can't imagine what about. Fern says the pictures of houses, empty, without furniture. Omar thinks they're homes for sale, but doesn't understand. Fern says that in the first video where Lety was with Tomas, they were looking at the same houses. (One of Omar's bimbos tries to take his beer mug from him. He snorts and bites her hand. That's hot... in fiction-land.) Omar points out that Lety talks about an "embargo" and about Fern deserving something. Fern worries. What is the surprise? He reminds Omar that it's WITHOUT "embargo." Omar says she's speaking in code, so maybe that's not what she means. Fern gets that there's a secret between his parents and Lety about houses for sale, but he can't figure it out.

Back at Casa de Padilla, Tomas is upset to know that Fernando called. He thinks Lety must have told him about the money he lost on the trees that burned down in Australia. Lety's parents want Tomas to call Fern back, but Tomas stalls. He looks at some other investments that might win his money back - including coffins ("death never goes out of style"). Eventually Mom uses a bowl of meatballs to lure Tomas to the kitchen table (he carefully opens and closes his imaginary Les Nessman-style office door), then RoboPop attacks him with the phone, on which he has already dialed Fern's number.

While Fern is speaking to Omar, Lety's phone rings. He doesn't want to answer it - he's too annoyed - but Omar says it might be a good way to get information. (Omar clumsily wraps his big oafish arms around his bimbos' necks and pulls them both towards him, sort of hyperventilating and kissing them. Oh, so hot. NOT.)

Fern takes the call. Someone asks for Lety. Fern says Lety left very early. Tomas does not want to identify himself, but RoboPop makes him. (Fern tells Omar it's Tomas and has a long and irrelevant side conversation with him while Tomas waits nervously.) Tomas asks what can he do for Fern. Then he starts to apologize about the investment. Who would have imagined there'd be a fire in Australia and ruin all the little trees (I think he may be referring to a Christmas tree farm)? Fern is confused. Tomas promises that tomorrow, he'll make that money back for Filmo-Imagen. Fern laughs, that crazy kind of laughter when you're totally wired and freaking out. Then he ends the call and hangs up! Tomas is relieved, but RoboPop wonders, if Fern said not to worry, then why was he looking for Tomas in the first place?

Fern goes back to his conversation with Omar. "It's confirmed, Omar. Tomas Mora is an imbecile!" He says he's going to find Lety and find out what's going on before he goes crazy. He asks Alicia where Lety is. She gives him some attitude about all of his employees leaving without telling him where they're going. He asks her to please, for the first time in history, just give him the information he needs. Does she know where she went, yes or no?

Just then, Saimon and Paco step off the elevator and hear what she says next in her loud tattletale voice: Lety and those tarantulas, the cuartel, have gone to look at male strippers. Fern's face almost twitches. He calls Omar back. Omar is now in his hotel room, alone, and he blames Fern for the bimbos getting bored and leaving him. Fern tells Omar where Lety went. Omar laughs, annoying Fern, and says something about men on steroids, and Sergio Mayer (the actor who plays Luigi)! Fern wants to go there and look for Lety. Omar says he can't do that - only women can get in.

The feas get to Solo Para Mujeres. There's a long line of women waiting to get in. Irma complains that she told them she didn't want to see these men. Then it sinks in: Lety realizes she's going to watch men strip! Her eyelid twitches. They assure her that she'll have a great time. PM says these men dance very sexy. Sara tells them that they wear thongs (I think). Lety has some doubts about this, but they say it's their only chance to see this (I guess it's a travelling show). Lola describes it as a respite from their problems. Sara says it's to celebrate their success with the underwear commercial. They debate some more and finally Lety gives in, though she says she won't enjoy it. They all agree to go together, but Lola starts worrying about her kids; she just knows that homewrecker is going to be around.

Marcia calls Alicia. She's still angry about her phone call with Fern. She hung up on him and he didn't call her back. They talk about his interest in Lety. Alicia tells Marcia that Lety and the whole cuartel went out to see Solo Para Mujeres, but Marcia couldn't care less about those secretaries, least of all Lety. If Lety disappeared from the planet, Marcia would be very pleased, yet Fernando wants to know where Lety's going? Alicia says that he acted very strangely when she told him where Lety went, and went back into his office. She thinks something's going on between them!

Next week: Paco and Saimon slip into something more uncomfortable. A man takes his shirt off.

La Fea Más Bella #123 10/12/06 "A Green Eyed Monster called Fernando Mendiola"

Happy Thursday!!!
Okay, so we have Fernando with the incriminating DVD in hand. Neither he nor Lety are aware of the little bomb that’s about to go off. But first we must go to Munich!

We get some nice footage of a German restaurant with lots of people, food and beer. Next, we see Omar sitting at a picnic table in what looks like a bad Western. He is in the restaurant with two “German” women. He kisses them and tells them that he loves them. His phone rings, it’s Fernando. He asks Omar what he should do. Fernando says no, but he’s very confused. He wants to know what he should do. Lety is acting weird. She was editing something in post-production. When Fernando came in while she was editing she started to act really nervous. Lety took version two but he has the DVD one in front of him. He holds it out to the phone for Omar to “see”. He doesn’t want to be disrespectful and watch it. Omar asks if Lety said anything about it to Fernando when she was editing. Fernando remembers that Lety said she was making a behind the scenes video. His curiosity got the best of him. Omar assures Fernando that if it’s just a behind the scene DVD, it’s perfectly fine to watch it.

Saimon is on phone. He’s talking to Martha’s husband about the cuartel’s plans for the night. He knows that they have something great planned. Saimon tells Paco not to say anything about his wife about their conversation. Lety walks into the reception area in the middle of their conversation.

The cuartel is in the bathroom and PM is complaining about the kid situation. She and Juana want to go to the just for women show! Sara is excited about going to see men that matter, that will move her; unlike Rodolfo. Martha is worried how her husband would react if he knew she is going to see male strippers.

Lety interrupts Saimon’s conversation with Paco. Saimon says he’ll call him later. He asks Lety what service she would like of the messenger. Lety asks him to send out the envelope. Saimon gets excited about mailing something to England. Lety tells him that he has to be absolutely discreet. Saimon promises discretion. Lety lets him know that it’s urgent.

Fernando is still talking to Omar. Fernando thinks that if he watches it he’s interfering with Lety’s privacy. Bomb goes off! The very first scene is Matilde talking about the future Mr. and Mrs. Tomas Mora in their future house. They’re going to have enormous happiness and have much love in this house. This is where they’re going to raise their children and have a beautiful family! Fernando is left speechless. Omar yells to see if he’s still there. He asks Fernando what happened. Fernando re-watches the video and holds the phone up to the monitor for Omar to hear. Omar says this can not happen. Fernando says he’s well aware of this. Omar says that Fernando does not understand the gravity of this problem. Fernando says to himself that the only thing that he understands is that he is utterly and completely full of jealousy. Fernando says he’d like to smack off that idiot’s glasses. Omar asks who is the idiot to whom Fernando refers. Tomas Mora! Omar asks what Tomas looks like. Fernando says he looks like an insignificant. He’s really ugly! He would say he’s Lopez’s son, but Lopez is much better looking than him. He can’t believe this guy is close to Lety!

PM runs up to Lety and asks her if she wants to go to the male review. Alicia looks left out. It’s secretary night! Pm corrects and says it’s secretary night for secretaries converted into production assistants. Lety refuses with the excuse that she’s going out with her boyfriend, Tomas Mora.

Fernando can’t believe that Lety is going to marry this idiot. Omar asks if Lety has mentioned anything about her wedding. Fernando replies that she hasn’t said anything, he wouldn’t want to hear it anyways! Omar suggests that maybe Lety read the letter he wrote before he left for Germany, he’s sure of it. Now Lety’s trying to get revenge. Fernando is sure that Lety is not capable of this. Omar says, “of course she is!” “That monster wants your blood.” Fernando yells at Omar for calling Lety a monster… again. Omar says that Fernando needs to take immediate action and confront Tomas Mora. Irmita knocks on the door. Fernando says bye quickly and hangs up. Irmita asks if he’s feeling okay. He does a not so convincing job of saying he’s fine. Irmita asks him about the commercial.

Lety says she can’t say no to her boyfriend because today is their two month anniversary. She says that he is going to prepare a surprise. Sara says that the cuartel is not the same without her. Lety pleads that they let her go. Of course the will! She says she’ll see them tomorrow. Juana wants to know why they didn’t tell Lety that it was a night for women only. Martha thinks that Lety wouldn’t approve. PM says who cares, Lety’s not going, but we are!!!! Lola reminds Martha that they have to make sure the kids are taken care of.

Lety is now in Fernando’s office. Fernando yells at her and then apologizes and tells Irmita that he’s nervous. Irmita asks him why. The commercial was a success. Fernando says it doesn’t have anything to do with that. Irmita leaves. Lety tells Fernando that she’s done with her chore. “Congratulations, Leticia”, he sarcastically replies. She asks if he’s okay. He says he’s tense, no he’s surprised, no he’s discomposed. Why? HE doesn’t know. What happened? Nothing! Where did you go with your purse? Fernando thinks that Lety is up to something mysterious. She’s pissed, hurt and she wants to know what is up with him. She goes back to her office while he turns the other way tapping his foot. In her office Lety talks to her duck. She asks it why Fernando is mad at her. What did she do? What happened?

Martha calls Paco and asks him to do a favor, will he watch the kids tonight?. She’s got something to do. He remembers his conversation with Saimon. He says that he has to do something tonight. What? Martha asks. You tell me first he says back. She says that they have to go to a meeting about compulsive eaters called… Overeaters Anonymous! (This group really does exist) The cuartel laughs in the background. Yes, she has to go to an Overeater’s Anonymous meeting. Paco says she doesn’t need to go to that meeting. He loves her like she is. She protests and then points out that he hasn’t said what he has to do. He says that he has to go to a national taxi union meeting. Martha says that she has never heard of this union. She hangs up with Paco.

Fernando is listening at Lety’s door when his cell phone rings. Omar wants to remind him of what he said earlier. Fernando says that Omar is an idiot and that he’s not going to do it. Omar says that’s fine. Leave Tomas with their business! Fernando has never thought about confronting Tomas because Tomas is not competition for him! Fernando can not think how Lety could marry someone like Tomas. Omar asks for a final time if Fernando is going to confront Tomas. (Anyone else watch the passing of the gigantic beer mug during this scene?) Fernando’s not sure of himself, but he’s frightened of nothing.

Tomas is at the Padilla Solis house freaking out about something on the computer. Erasmo enters the scene and asks what’s going on with Tomas. Tomas has lost something and he wants it to come back on the screen. The computer completely crashes and “burns” something. Erasmo asks where they caught fire. Tomas replies that it was in an Australian forest. Erasmo asks why this bothers Tomas so much. (I think Tomas had invested money in a Australian forest and it burned down. This conversation went a little over my head. I think that week straight of drunken Erasmo did me in!) Julieta comes down and asks what happened. Tomas made a mistake; Lety is going to fire him!

Lety can’t remember saying anything to Fernando. Her phone rings; it’s Tomas. He says not to get mad. She thinks he’s going to say something about Alicia. That’s not it. First, he wants Lety to promise she won’t fire him. Lety worries that he told someone about the embargo between Filmo Imagen and Conceptos. Erasmo sneaks over to the phone and tells Lety what happened. Lety laughs. Tomas is not amused. He’s lost the investment, for the first time ever! He’s lost his prestige as a boss! He begs her not to tell anyone. She asks who she’s going to tell? He’s worried that she’ll say something out loud to herself and Alicia will overhear. Lety tells him to not worry about that. Lety hangs up. She talks to the computer some more about her problem with Fernando. Erasmo and Julieta laugh as Tomas runs out the door.

Fernando re-watches the DVD. He calls out to God. He remember Omar saying that he has to frighten Tomas. Scare him! Scare him! Fernando is not happy. Tomas is messing with his Lety. Fernando picks up the phone. He calls Lety’s house. Erasmo picks up. Fernando hangs up the phone; he doesn’t want to talk to Erasmo. Julieta asks Erasmo who it was. Erasmo says all the world hangs up on him. Julieta asks him if he’s sure it wasn’t Matilde. Erasmo is not amused.

Fernando’s still preoccupied. He remembers when Julieta told him that Lety was Tomas and gave him Tomas’s cellular number. Fernando tries to remember where he put the number.

Alicia beats on her desk and yells at someone that he doesn’t have any idea about something. Alicia Ferreira is not there. Of course she’ll give her the message! She hasn’t called you? Alicia is a very busy woman, but she can’t help the guy on the phone because she doesn’t know where Alicia is at this moment.

Martha, Juana and cuartel go on about how to get care for the kids. Martha says they have to accept that they can’t go. Sara and Juana say they’ll go by themselves if the others can not go because they don’t have kids. PM can’t believe them. Lola calls them traitors. Martha points out that the cuartel stands for unity and solidarity. “All for one and one for all!” Juana complains that she doesn’t want to miss the show. Lola, Martha and PM point out that they don’t either. Sara points out that there is one more person to ask to watch the kids. El Cheque! Lola protests.

El Cheque is on the phone with Yazmin. They’re arguing about Lola and the kids. He wants to see his kids tonight. She doesn’t want to spend time with them. He’s their father. They’re going to love him regardless. Long conversation rehashing all the previous conversations they’ve had about Efren’s kids. The only difference this time is a cup of extra hot coffee. Yazmin reminds him that they have plans tonight. He says that he wants his kids to know Yazmin.

Lola paces pack and forth because she doesn’t want to ask a favor of el Cheque. Sara says there is no other option, PM is a single mother without a father for her child. Nope, PM points out, I have Saimon. I’ll ask him. Martha asks her what she’s going to say to him about what they’re going to do tonight. PM says she’ll make something up. Lola’s phone rings and guess who it is… El Cheque! He asks Lola to let him take care of the kids that same night and for the rest of the weekend. The cuartel is thrilled! Lola asks where he is going to keep them. He says that Yazmin is his girlfriend, so of course they’ll be around her. He tells Lola that Yazmin really likes her and respects her. Lola should be the same. Quick flash to Yazmin talking about how much she hates Lola. Lola decides to let Efren take the kids. Lola says she’ll let Efren take the kids with one condition, he has to take care of all of the cuartel’s kids. With some dramatics Efren agrees.

Back to Fernando and Omar on the phone. More complaining about Tomas and Erasmo. Fernando can’t remember Tomas’s phone number and Erasmo answered the phone when he called Lety’s house! Fernando hangs up again, upset. He picks up his office phone. The phone at the Padilla house rings. This time Julieta answers. Fernando thanks God. He tells her that he’s looking for Tomas. Julieta says that he’s not there and that he’s left his cell phone. Fernando says he’ll leave his cell phone number. Would she have Tomas call him? She writes his number down on a pad of paper. Fernando thanks her. Erasmo asks Julieta why Fernando wanted to talk with Tomas. Julieta said she doesn’t know; she would never ask. Erasmo asks if it was Fernando who hung up on him because he doesn’t want to talk to him. Julieta says she doesn’t think so because Fernando is really friendly and loves talking with Erasmo.

Lety comes out and asks Fernando what happened. Fernando hides behind a folder. She continues to ask him what’s wrong. He won’t talk to her. Lety walks over to him and takes the folder. She asks Fernando if they can leave. She’s upset and stalks out with a sour look on her face. The cuartel asks her what’s wrong. She tells them that it’s nothing. Alicia also observes that something is wrong. She’s still arguing with the guy on the phone looking for her. She tells him that she has important things to do.

The cuartel decides they’re too curious to leave Lety alone. They take off for the bathroom. They pass Alicia, still arguing with the gentleman. She hangs up on him and says to herself that she’s not going to permit him to repossess her car. She runs off after the cuartel. They’re in the bathroom asking Lety what’s wrong. Sara says she’ll take care of whoever hurt Lety. Lety continues to cry. The cuartel suspects Tomas. Lety says he’s mad at her, but won’t tell her what’s wrong. Alicia listens on from the outside of the door. Lola and Martha say that Lety can go with them. The location is a surprise. Alicia wonders where they’re all going.

Julieta is worried that Tomas won’t come back to get his message. Julieta tells him that Fernando is looking for him. Tomas is worried.

Is Lety going to get to see strippers?
Will Fernando confront Tomas?
And what we all really want to know...
Will they both just get over it and get it on?

Have a great weekend everyone! hasta lunes!

"Is there divine justice for cheating spouses?"

I thought you might enjoy knowing somebody found our site using that search on Google. We were on the first page of results.

OK, everybody, term paper: Do telenovelas answer that question? Your response should be one page or less, double-spaced.

Heridas de Amor - Wednesday Oct. 11

Juan and Fernanda are talking in her office. Juan whines to Fern that Renata is HIS wife. He is upset that Gonzalo wants Renata to return home. Juan claims that Renata is suffering from a cold nothing more. (Last time I checked in my mother book it said colds don’t have HIGH fevers but I digress.) Juan says it would seem that we live in the street Madrina! Its one thing that we live without luxuries and another if we lived like we were indigents! Fern tries to make Juan feel better by telling him that he will never understand Gonzalo. Fern claims that maybe when Juan is a father he will understand what Gonzalo is thinking.

There is a replay of Renata’s nightmare with Carola. (Makes me think we might see this cat fight later on in the telenovela.) Amparo comes in to check on Renata and says she is delirious. Amparo then starts to practice some weird home remedies that I have never tried on my child and from what I recall has never been done to me. Ive tried cold towels to the head folks but never to the feet. Could I have missed something in my parenting handbook? Amparo takes some wet towels and places them on Renata’s feet to help break Renata’s fever. Hmmmm.

Gonzalo and Vicente talk over the lost harvest. Meanwhile Florencia tries her best to guilt Miranda into marrying Alejandro to save the family. Just tell me why isn’t she showing! Where is her growing stomach? Is she really pregnant?

Pamela and Nuria talk of Nuria’s sensation that she knows the hacienda. She has only been there once before but she knows this house! To further her point Nuria does a show and tell of the doll she found for Pamela. The girls start to get freaked out (ghosts?) about the possibilities. Is Nuria remembering another life?

Miranda tells Flor that Si she will marry Alejandro because she loves him, he’s the man of her life. Not for any other reason. Their father calls and Miranda tells him about losing the harvest. He is comforting telling her there is always a first time in all things and she has to be strong and overcome this. She tells him she plans to go to the Tabasco Fair to look for a solution.

Alejandro begs Faby to not say anything. Al argues that it was only a question of time that SLI tanked; it wasn’t just because of him. Al tells Fab that he hasn’t cleared everything up because it takes time and he won’t shock Flor. She wouldn’t be able to handle it. He then tells Fab that if anything happens to Flor he will hold Fab responsible.

Miranda comes into the library where Al and Fab were fighting. They talk over their approaching wedding. Then AL asks Miranda to sign a prenuptial agreement. He says all three of them (Daira, Lisania and Al) have to sign a prenup agreement due to stipulations his father left in his will. She says she will sign it and more. Al says there is one more thing. She has to give him a child before the end of the first year of marriage. (First posting I put that Al said he needed a son. He said nino so that could be either, but Im still secretly suspicious that he wants a male heir!)

Al goes and finds Pam and asks her to be his spy (he didn’t use that exact word but that is what he meant). She balks at the idea telling him she won't be his spy and she isn’t his employee. After Al explains how much he loves Miranda Pam decides she will help. She will tell Al if Fab or anyone else tries to say something bad to Miranda.

Renata is feeling better. Juan comes home bearing flowers while Amparo is making her soup. After Amparo brings the soup and with Juan watching Renata calls her Mama Amparito and she tells her Thank you. Juan plays doctor with Renata, he listens to her chest with his stethoscope and this scene was stupid.

Carola prepares for a job interview when Daniel comes knocking on her door. He has been to see his psychologist and has talked about her with him. He wants to be Carola’s only client. He wants to be charged whatever, he will set her up in an apartment, with car, chauffer whatever. Carola says no.

Miranda whines to Pamela about how Al found her after the cosecha (harvest) was stolen. Miranda talks about having to do everything to save her family from ruin. Pamela then takes the moment to play devils advocate. She asks Miranda what family? Flor is in her ivory tower, your dad is trying to save his company and that is the only thing that is important to him, Renata has gotten married. So what family is Miranda trying to save?

Daniel talks with Carola and Raul. (Raul has just arrived.) They talk over their families when they discover that Raul knows Daniels family, he is Julio Bustamante's son. Raul tells Daniel that Renata married Juan. Daniel is impactado. He says he can’t believe it. He says Renata only does two things, one is to make fun of people and the other is to challenge (dare) someone. Daniel leaves after saying this. Carola and Raul are inspired by Daniels comments to see if Renata and Juan are having problems. They decide they will call Erika to see if she will tell them anything.

Fernanda goes to the Mexico City house to meet with Gonzalo. While she waits she talks with Charo. After a few minutes Charo remembers that Fern is the woman that Tomasa used to talk about. Gonzalo comes in and sends Charo out. Charo goes to the kitchen deciding to give the envelope that she found in Tomasa's room to Fern. She talks to herself as she figures out how to let Fern know. She decides to write a note and pass it to Fern while giving Fern some coffee. She does this and is dismissed again by Gonzalo. Gonzalo tells Fern that he doesn’t want to continue fighting. Fern agrees. Gonzalo wants to know if Fern remembers what happened “That Night”. He tells her that before Tomasa died she told him “Ella tambien disparo.” She also shot.

Al, Daira and Luciano are talking over what the investigator told Luciano. Lisania knew she was being followed. They decide to stop the investigator and then begin to talk over Bertha and the documents that Bertha has. Luciano confirms that the documents are as valid today as they were the day Al’s father signed them many years ago. Daira says she can’t believe their lives are in the hands of Bertha! Al says he doesn’t have any other option than to tell Lizania what is going on.

Miranda tells Pamela that she is not a fool for trying to save her family. She is doing it for herself. Pamela tells her forget that I ever said those things to you. I just care for you and see all the hard work you have done. Miranda says the value is for her, she has a clear objective of what she wants to do. Pam agrees and begs forgiveness again.

Fern tells Gonzalo that only he and Bertha know exactly what happened that night. After some more note comparison on what happened Fern reveals that Tomasa’s children died after throwing the body into the river that night. Fern also tells Gonzalo that Bertha took Tomasa’s granddaughter away after that night. Gonzalo is impactado. He can’t believe that Tomasa never told him, and that Bertha would take the child. Fern says it’s because Nati and Tomasa took the gun and hid it.

Fab whines to Flor about everything that is happening. Flor takes the opportunity to brag about how strong she has become. She talks about surviving her illness and being strong. As she talks she clues into the thought of what if I have passed this illness on to my child. (The child that is not showing through her tight outfits.) She then wonders which one of her relatives has this illness. She lists them all and none have it so she questions just who passed the illness (by heredity) to her?

Juan tells Renata about his new position with Doctor Cohen at UNAM. Renata wants her tour of the University. Then Juan asks her if she will take precautions not to get pregnant or should he? She is stunned asking you don’t want to have kids with me? Juan shakes his head as the scene ends.

Daira asks who could of told all of this to Faby? Al thinks it was someone really close because Fab knows everything. Luciano says that he is beginning to worry about this when Lisania blasts into the room screaming at Alejandro. She tells him to take the tail (investigator) off her. She continues yelling at Al asking when is he going to give her her money? Al says he won't give it to her. Why? Because none of us can spend a dime right now, Bertha has the designs and documents of our father and if she turns them into cash we will be ruined! Lisania says Bertha loves you. You swore you watch over us and take care of us! Al tells her he won't marry Bertha. Daira even tries to talk sense into Lisania but she screams she will never forgive Al if they lose their money and runs out. Very stable girl there.

Al admits its true he swore to his father that he would watch over them. Daira says you can't marry Bertha. You have to marry Miranda before Bertha returns. Al agrees that this seems like what he needs to do. He then tells them that Miranda will sign the prenup and will give him a son. They are happy to hear this.

By the way everyone is drinking cognac in these scenes with Fern and Gonzalo, Daira, Alejandro and Luc. That must be "The" drink for the wealthy in Mexico. Ok back to Gonzalo and Fernanda who are talking about "That Night". Fern tells Gonzalo that Nati was in her hospital and that Nati talked about hiding the gun in the Arbol Lloron (lloron = weeping willow, so arbol lloron could mean that or maybe weeping tree). Gonzalo tries to remember the tree but seems to think the name refers to something else and not a tree. He tells Fern his chauffer will drive her home and they agree to talk more another day. Gonzalo reminds her that all this nice talk hasn’t changed anything between them. Fern says she understands. Gonzalo ends the conversation by saying that when Bertha returns she will have a lot to tell them about what happened "Aquel Noche" that night.

Renata is still upset thinking Juan doesn’t want to have kids with her. He tells her it's not that, it's that the timing is not right. They should have kids when they can offer the kids a home with a yard etc. He suggests they be democratic and that for a period of time he will take precautions and then for a period of time she can. Renata is calmed and agrees. She then mouths off about not liking Fernanda. Juan calls Fern an extraordinary woman. He says that Renata needs to give Fern a chance and then she will see how great Fern is. He also tells Renata that if she doesn’t knock it off about disliking Fern he is going to have to get mad at her.

Miranda talks to God about how she needs to save her family and what is she going to do?! Arcadia walks by and asks what is Miranda doing. Miranda says she couldn’t sleep and what is Arcadia doing? Arcadia is doing some cleaning but Miranda wants her to rest, she will do it. They politely fight over who will clean what showing what a humble hard working soul Miranda is. They end the discussion with Miranda going off to talk with Nati. Hmmm what will she find out tomorrow?

La Fea Más Bella #122 10/11/06 Smell of success, miasma of doom

After the game, Fern and Lety attend a Mexican band concert. In the next scene they are wearing different clothes and visiting the Siegestor arch where he thanks her for going with him and getting over her fear of flying and all that. Lety thanks him for inviting her, says it was great because they were together. They smooch in front of the famous arch-shaped German landmark I don't know the name of. Ooh, they smooch lots! He reminds her that they have to go back to Mexico. ("Don't remind me," she says.) They'll go through Madrid. And this time - she agrees - no tequila therapy.

Two days pass.

Yeah, you read that right. The day of the underwear commercial was a whole week's worth of episodes. The day of La Bolsa Roja was TWO whole weeks of episodes. But the remainder of Fern and Lety's trip to Europe, and Lety coming home to her nervous parents, is completely glossed over.

Well, that's how it is with the soaps.

Anyway. Two days pass. The feas are nervous about the underwear commercial - Fern's still working on it. Alicia tries to annoy them but they pretend that all they can hear is a vague buzzing sound. She tells them their work on the commercial was a wasted effort. They need to understand that they're just secretaries and floor-cleaners; ugly nacas. They mock her.

Then they talk about Lety's whereabouts. Sara had assumed that Lety was helping Fern with the post-production of the commercial, but Lola says no, she's been in the editing room, working on... they don't know what. Martha says that Lety was acting strange this morning.

In the editing room, Lety prays that she won't get caught. Then she makes an audio recording with the engineer. At first she acts a little goofy, hearing her voice in the headphones. She's doing the voiceover for the house-hunting DVD she's going to send to the senior Mendiolas. Her narration has a decidedly gloomy sound. (She pauses to wipe away a tear.) They consider doing another take, but she decides that it's not going to sound any different. When she leaves the studio, she momentarily forgets she's still wearing the headphones, but the cord restrains her. I only mention this because of the time I did something similar, except it was my car instead of my head and the nozzle from a gas pump instead of headphones. 10 years later, I can look back and laugh.

Now we see the current, edited version of the underwear commercial. I think it's horrible, but not nearly as bad as the Bella Life makeup commercial. (Pilar's squirming is supposed to be sexy, but to me she looks like a bait worm squirming on a hook.) Fern is very nervous about what they have. The engineer volunteers that he thinks it's very good. Fern considers watching it again, but he decides it's not going to look any different. Then he complains about the "effects" and the "texture." Galo, the engineer, tries to be patient. Fern decides to call Luigi.

Speaking of the devil, Luigi is finally near a camera, getting footage of the soccer players and admiring their smokin'-hot legs and butts. (Luigi is wearing a fur coat, so we can't see his smokin'-hot arms.) Omar prances and swishes, saying "hello, hello." He is being cranky and making fun of Luigi because he has to pee wicked bad. Luigi says, "do you think being handsome gives you the right to imitate me?" Omar reminds Luigi to do business before pleasure. Luigi teases him for being "jealous," and says he IS working - he is getting inspired by those bodies.

This inane conversation is interrupted by Fern's phone call to Luigi. Luigi is chock-full of attitude. Fern tells Luigi he's finished editing the underwear commercial. Luigi says "good, now you know it's not such a piece of cake, eh?" (actually the literal Mexican expression is "not enchiladas"). Fern says he thinks it's still a little choppy, but Luigi says there's nothing he can do without actually seeing the commercial. Fern says there's not enough time. (Omar is doing a frantic peepee dance next to Luigi.) Luigi says use your feelings, your intuition, to feel the commercial, etc.; use your macho, arrogant sensibility....

Fern offers Luigi his sarcastic thanks and hangs up on him. Luigi stares at his phone in shock. Omar laughs stiffly, and Luigi suggests that he should go to the bathroom.

Over in editing, Lety and another engineer (not Galo) are transferring the camcorder footage to DVD. They watch the extremely awkward moment when Mathilde, thinking Lety and Tomas were engaged, made them hug and kiss on a sweeping staircase and grandly announced that this would be the future home of Mr. & Mrs. Tomas Mora and all their little children. Lety tells the engineer he can cut this part out. He laughs. She asks him to hurry up and cut it out!

Just then, Lety gets a call from the senior Mendiolas. (For some reason, this scene is introduced by those infernal kazoos.) They say they've been waiting for her to call back. (Alicia never gave Lety their message from the day she left for Germany.) She says they've been really busy, but she was just this minute working on their DVD. Humberto is very annoyed with her, but Teresita is more patient. She just tells Lety they want to get that house bought as soon as possible. (Lety is about to cry.) Lety says don't worry, I'll send you the video. She hangs up and makes her super-sad face.

Out in the lobby, Alicia gets a call from the bank that's fixing to repossess her car. She tells them Alicia isn't in the office and offers to take a message.

PM comes off the elevator, waving the newspaper around excitedly. Martha assumes that it's food-related, but it's actually an event, tonight, for women only - and secretaries get in 2-for-1. It's male exotic dancers. They have to go! (Martha wants to know if there will be food.) PM is staring at the pictures in the ad and drooling. Juana runs outside to inform Saimon. The rest of them talk about childcare arrangements. I'm not sure exactly what Lola and PM say about PM Jr. (either Lola is refusing to babysit tonight, or she simply wants PM to spend some time with her child); and Martha is going to stay home tonight because she can't imagine saying to her husband "hey, I'm going out and stare at some other men tonight, okay?" And el Cheque isn't going to be looking after Lola's kids either. Sara says it wouldn't be such a bad idea for him to watch the kids for a change. Lola gets all wound up at the mention of his name.

Irma comes by and disapproves of this ladies-only event. They josh her for her prudish attitude, and PM compares her to Lety's father. PM is very upset that she's going to miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Lola says forget it; it's impossible.

Outside, Celso is doing bodybuilder poses for Juana. Since he's fully-clothed, it doesn't look like much of anything. :-) Juana agrees with me. Celso says he prefers more of a Paty Manterola type. In any case, Saimon's not around at the moment.

Ricardo and his entourage show up to see the commercial. Alicia rushes over to greet them. She re-introduces herself and offers her hand for kissing. (Not so much offers, as shoves it at his face.) She tells Ricardo she's an executive - almost like a president. He greets her as "señorita." PM and Sara crack up laughing. Alicia jokes that since he called her señorita, they have to go out and get tattoos. (As much as I love this, it turns out I got that word wrong; she said they have to address one another as informal "tu" rather than use the formal "usted.") He introduces his clients. (He doesn't give their names; he just says "these are the clients.")

Ricardo is eager to get to the showroom, or whatever you call it, but first Alicia wants to tell him of her interest in publicity and modeling. She also complains that she didn't like the underwear model at all. Ricardo says she was perfect. Alicia backpedals and says she was sort of attractive. Ricardo says she was gorgeous and excuses himself to find his way to the thingy-room, that thing with the stage. Alicia is left behind looking frustrated. The feas jeer at her. She lets Fern know that Ricardo and the clients are here. Fern panics and tells Galo to just go ahead and cut the DVD. He does so. Fern sniffs the DVD and tells Galo it smells like success.

Over in editing, Lety's engineer has also burnt a DVD. He tells Lety that it's all of the raw footage from the camcorder, with no cuts. Lety is compelled to explain to this man that the guy in the DVD is just a friend of hers, a great person, her best friend, like a brother, yeah, he's her brother. Her brother. She laughs.

Out in the hallway, Fern hears her and stops snorting his DVD to go in and see what she's up to. He enters while she's in the middle of saying something funny about Tomas. He surprises her and she starts guiltily, dropping the DVD. He picks it up and shuffles it against the underwear commercial DVD (none of the disks or cases are labeled, of course). He wants to know what she's been doing - she says something like she and Gerardo were doing a video of their day at the country club and she was putting it together as a surprise for the cuartel. He is surprised that she was able to speak in front of a camera, but he's more concerned about the meeting with Ricardo at the moment, so that's the end of that particular conversation. He rushes out, and Lety thanks the engineer for not spilling the beans on the househunting video.

They work on it some more and Lety says she wants to send it over the Internet. He gives her a different DVD and says it contains the file (an edited version, I assume) in MPEG format. He offers to send it for her, but she wants to have the DVD. She thanks him for everything and reminds him not to tell Fern about it. He reaches for a hug and kiss (seriously - this is the woman who supposedly hurt everyone's eyes on her first day and now her coworkers all want to kiss her!). She dodges this, giggles nervously and blows him a kiss on her way out the door. Alone, he says to himself, "she's very ugly, but she's so sweet!"

Again in the hallway with Galo, Fern wonders why Lety was acting so strangely. He also seems confused by the two disks he's holding, but is able to tell them apart - his disk has that scent of success. They hurry to the whatchamacallit room.

In the whatchamacallit room, Alicia is acting like a waitress around Ricardo and his pals, offering refreshments and the like even though they don't seem interested. The cuartel make fun of her, and Saimon saunters over to Ricardo's table and greets them. Soon, the cuartel and Saimon are in yet another verbal scuffle with Alicia - this time in front of clients. They argue about their role in producing the commercial, and Alicia's haircolor (she swears it's natural). Irma urges them to stop arguing. Lola ignores her and says that since they produced the commercial, the airhead should actually be serving them. Juana agrees. Alicia tells them they'll be mere secretaries forever. Martha says something about Alicia being a waitress/model who had to hock her jewelry.

Fern interrupts this meeting of the minds to say hello to Ricardo and his clients. He lets Ric smell the disk, and Ric agrees that it smells like success. Fern says he wants to introduce the crew, but before he can say much more, the cuartel line up and begin waving and taking bows. (That's what happens when Luigi is your employees' only role model.) Fern tells them to sit down. Alicia is outraged and assures them that the only reason they are being allowed to stay is because Luigi's not there.

Fern then introduces them, one by one, to lots of applause. Alicia runs out of the room, screaming "Feas! Feas!" Unfortunately, you can't fire Zeus's favorite daughter. Lety shows up, and he makes a special mention of her. They all cheer extra-loud for her.

They watch the commercial. Fern, Lety, and the rest wait nervously for a reaction. Ricardo and the clients exchange meaningful glances. The tension is almost too much to bear. Then they break into applause and offer profuse congratulations and thanks! (What, no kazoos?? Wouldn't you think THIS would be the time to break out the kazoos?)

Alicia hears them cheering and grumps at her desk. Marcia calls. She tries to get Alicia to understand that the cuartel's success on this task is good for the company, but Alicia complains that she's always at war with them. Marcia says (I think) that she needs to stay in Munich a little longer to negotiate with FIFA or something. Alicia says she's all alone in this jungle of ugliness, and Mexico misses her (Marcia).

After the meeting, Ricardo congratulates Fern again and says "what do you need Luigi for?" They say goodbye and the cuartel discuss how to celebrate. Saimon wants to dance. Martha wants an international buffet with caviar. (I don't know if caviar is available in her size!)

Lety asks Fern what he wants to do. He says there's just one place he wants to be - with her, his love. Lety protests that it's supposed to be a secret, but he points out that they're all her friends, so it's okay if they know. He doesn't like to lie to friends. They are all very happy and supportive and agree to keep the secret. Lety and Fernando kiss, and then Lety snaps out of her daydream.

He says he'd love to celebrate with them, but he's tired. He thanks them for their excellent work. He and Lety go into his office, and the rest go back into the watchmacallit room, throwing a few more insults at Alicia for no good reason. PMS dance; the others talk about going to watch the dancing men. Saimon overhears this and heartily disapproves. He deals with the problem by dancing with PM some more. Alicia comes in and interrupts, and they have the same battle of wits yet again. They accuse her of being jealous, and she outlines the reasons they should be jealous of her, including her hair. She complains that their festivities are interfering with her work.

Lety asks Fern if he's really too tired to celebrate. He says of course not - we're going to be alone. He says a lot of half-finished sentences and struggles to express himself. She asks him if he wants to tell her something pretty. He says yes... but it's not easy, he feels funny. Lety admits she doesn't exactly understand what he means, so now I don't feel so ignorant. ;-)

Finally he spits it out. All that time when he was in Editing, for hours and hours, he... he... he missed her! (He is proud of himself for finally saying it.) She admits that she missed him too. She says she feels incomplete without him. He says he feels the same way. She says it hurts. He says "me too." (Wow, he sure has a way with words.) He plays with her barrette. He wants the two of them to sneak out right now! (Yes, he's volunteering!) She says no, it's not a good idea. She can't say why, but she has something important to do. She goes to her office and closes the door.

She tells herself that she should end her relationship with Fernando, but whenever she's with him, she changes her mind. (Either that, or she says she should be more resolved in her relationship with Fern, but whenever she's with him, she feels guilty. My captions were a little screwed up and and may not have matched what she was saying. "Determinar" or "terminar"? Not sure.) She puts the edited DVD in a manila envelope and puts an address sticker on it to send it to the senior Mendiolas in London.

She could have handwritten an address on the envelope, but instead she used a sticker. I hope she didn't use one of those cheap labels that fall off easily...

Fern calls for her and she comes out with her pocketbook. She claims she wasn't doing anything, and he says it sure took her a while to do nothing. She now needs to step out for a moment. He asks why she's taking her bag, and asks if it's because she can't bear to leave her beloved Moty (the dog mascot on her bag and half the junk in her office) alone. She takes off, saying she'll be right back. Fern is suspicious and wonders what she's up to. He remembers the DVD (containing the unedited footage) that she dropped and is about to put it in her office. Then he tells himself he should hand it to her since it's personal.

He opens the case, sniffs the disk and frowns. "That doesn't smell like success," he says dismissively, and sets it aside.

Will Martha's hunger ever be sated?
Will the cuartel sort out their childcare issues and get see the nekkid dancing men?
Will Alicia's car ever get repossessed, already?
Will Lety's househunting DVD win an award at Cannes?
Will Fern see something he shouldn't, and then jump to the wrong conclusion?
Does Moty sometimes feel smothered in his relationship with Lety?
Find out the answer to one of these questions in the near future!
