Las Tontas no van - Wed Apr. 8 - A troll, heart holes, and a GOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!

We start off with Ali making a promise we know she won’t be able to keep despite herself. To leave Pato alone, both of them alone if Candi loves him. She just wants her baby, she needs a reason to live. Pato leaves feeling about the same as I about Ali’s ability to carry through with that.

Candi continues to tell Santi, Pato was her life, but she doesn’t feel that any more, but she feels guilty because she feels really good seeing Chava with his Dad, and she feels really bad if she takes it away. When Santi starts bugging her about this, she reminds him he did the same with Mari. He asks her then what she will do with Pat and she says end it, but she’s not sure how. He suggests a text message. Ha.

She says she’s happy, but then there are moments like this when she is close to Santi and as they move closer cheek to cheek, the young kids come in and make fun. The couples chide each other about arms around the girls and they discuss about the kids coming to the institute tomorrow. Luci has to drag Santi away to home.
Zamora takes Sole home and she thanks him and invites him for coffee, but like a dummy he says no, and starts talking a mile a minute that it’s late and it’ll take her too long to make it, and besides they had coffee already at the restaurant, and….this reminds me of a Seinfeld episode where George was invited up for coffee and declined saying he can’t drink it it keeps him up at night, only to realize that maybe “coffee” wasn’t just “coffee” and he probably offended the girl he was with. Anyway, Zam asks if she is still in pain and she says a little, so he says he’ll put ice on it, er he means she should put ice on herself. She says see you tomorrow, he starts to leave, but then stops to ask her if they will really see each other tomorrow. She says it’s just a formality to say that, so good night. Anyway, he leaves with little birdies flying around his head and wishes her sweet dreams. He then yells something after she closed the door, but I couldn’t catch this, does anyone know? Something about being desnuda maybe? Not sure. Anyway, she smiles.

Santi and Lu arrive home to Issy and Santi tells her how the kids made up and then gives us more PSA about AIDS and how Lu will work with Candi. Issy is glad Lu is over her resentment and will learn what she needs to keep herself safe. She asks about Candi and he sort of brushes her off. She tells him not to resign himself to losing her, he should fight for love.

We switch to the other house where Pato is happy Candi waited for him for dinner, she learns he was with Ali and he agreed not to help her with the baby. He wants her to make him coffee while he runs to take a bath. She says she will, but hurry because she’s dead tired. He notes that she is distant, and she says yeah she’s got some worries, but ignore it. He runs up and her phone rings. It’s Santi, and he tells her he was going to hang up if she didn’t answer. She thinks that’s immature, but he doesn’t care; he saw a couple on the way home and the girl was wearing a Chivas shirt so this reminded him of something. She thinks maybe it was the last Classico where the Chivas won 3-2 over America. Wikipedia has super great detailed info in English about this famous match and other she talks about and their incredible rivalry. FWIW…..Viva los Chivas!!!!! (I’m a Chiva all the way….)

He says ha ha you’re funny but remembers a dream that she told him about being at the Azteca stadium the last time she went to a match with her Dad. She says oh yeah, the one where we won 3-0 under the coaching of Profe Bracamontes (her Dad in real life for those of you who didn’t know) and she remembers it was Sept. 2000. Indeed it was. He smugs that she has a good memory, but she says she just has a super Chiva memory. She always remembers when they beat America, the others she forgets. Anyway, he was talking about her dream that she made a goal in the Azteca stadium. She says that dream died because a woman can’t do that, only if she was to get put on El TRI Femenil (the Mexcian women’s national soccer team) and she’s really bad anyway so that will never happen. He says he just wanted to hear her voice so good night, and she says good night as well to Plastic Doc.
Poor Pato comes downstairs to find a cooling cup of coffee and a cool note that Candi couldn’t wait, and went up to bed. He is sad.

We go through a series of passing events, Candi and the teens attending a class and studying, Pato hanging with his kids and getting dissed by an always sleeping (not really) Candi. Santi holds a picture of the Stadio Azteca - me thinks me knows where that is going, and we see a much poppinger Marissa moaning about her mirror reflection and stick tonguing Santi’s picture.
Doc and Horty have a talk about a patient; Horty hoping he’ll help her and then they argue about when to send in the poor woman.

Candi runs down AGAIN, why it’s so great that the teens are helping. She gets a phone call, it’s Plastic doc…she agrees to see him tonight for a surprise. The teens cheer and Lu tells her how sad Pa has been because he misses her.

Enter a woman and a man into Doc‘s office, and the woman has one nasty smashed up nose. I bet I know where this is headed. Ugh. The man begs Santi to help fix her, and he promises they will get ready for emergency surgery right away. When he’s gone she tells her husband not to say anything. IN the operating room our Doc swift says the fracture is complex and strange and not like something from falling down stairs. This perplexes me, because in telenovela land people die and get paralyzed from falling down stairs, so what is so strange about multiple nose fractures? Anyway…..

Ali goes to see Candi and plays the martyr begging her to talk to Pato, because she has nothing to live for, she’s alone, empty, lost her family, hubby, Mom wants to live with you. Candi gives and agrees to talk to Pat about the baby.

Mari is at the doc whining about the pregnancy and upset that she has maybe 2-3 weeks left to go.

Santi talks to the woman, Rosa, very sweetly and asks her if in patient doctor confidence she will tell him what really happened with the four fractures she has. She says it’s not my husband. He loooves me. Santi tells her to rest and leaves.

Mari tells Ali to pack her bags, no way is she having natural birth with all it’s pain. They are going off but she gets mad when Ali asks what kind of climate they are going to. They’ll meet at the airport.

Gregoria is telling Charlie how to warm up the dinner she has made and Meno notes that she is all dressed up and must be going out somewhere. He kids her, but she says she’s going to meet her other daughter.

Meno plays his best Drag Gossip Gal and calls up Ali to find out that she is in disgust with her mother and doesn’t care to see her right now. Aha, he got his info and knows she’s lying Snark monster!!

Next we see Santi consulting with Candi and Barb about domestic violence and discussing who is ill the beater or beatee, and they determine both need counseling to break the cycle of dependence. Candi says she’ll write an article and Barb agrees to help. Santi begs Barb off. She fusses about a bit until he asks her flat out to disappear and wants to know if Candi is ready for her surprise. They are going on a flight but she has to stop by her house first and get her Chivas shirt. No she doesn’t, she has one in her drawer for whatever emergency!!!
Next we see a very nervous Gregoria meeting Arturo for dinner. So nervous she screams for a waiter at the top of her lungs in a very nice restaurant, when oone is right behind her.

Next we see Santi leading a blindfolded Candi around in the Azteca. He says they are making her dream come true. She says you are with Brad Pitt? He says no, the other one, and she says Patrick Dempsey? (whoa that’s going back….) finally she takes off the bandana to learn where she is. That’s not all, he’s managed to get Adolfo Rios to serve as goalkeep, not him. Turns out the bandana was Santi’s America shirt which he asks her if she would like to kiss for luck, she essentially tells him to stuff it and kisses her Chivas emblem. She winds up and takes her kick and Rios blocks. She sulks but Santi cheers for his America pal, but then realizes that wasn’t the point and “counsels” his friend to not try so hard, eh. He then tells A very broken up Candi that Rios moved early and so she gets a redo. I swear we see her undergarments again, but whatever. Anyway, she makes this one and of course there are hugs all around.

Santi says now it’s his turn to make his dream to come true; his dream is to marry a goat and that isn’t Mari. Well a Chiva. He tells her he’s not getting married. Mari is crazy and plays games and he’s not in love with her so he’s not going in for it.

He did all this because the airplane food sucks and well he wants her to leave Pato. She says it’s hard because of Chava but since they are in the Azteca, they’ll drop all that for now, except zero kisses. They both shout it out and sit down to dinner.

Art and Greg talk about her being nervous because his wife thought they were lovers. He tells her he thinks she’s afraid. She gets up to leave, but he begs her not to leave. He likes her and wants them to….he leans in for a kiss and she smacks him.

Santi and Candi crack up and drink like four different wines and champagnes. Santi thinks the should live together to save on lights, water, rent, she didn’t think water because she bathes a lot, he too, so of course they have to bathe together then. He teases her about her repressed sexuality but says she is sexy indeed.

Meanwhile, Pato is waiting at home. Grega returns from her non-tryst and Pato springs on her she needs to tell him the truth. She says about what and he replies Candi. She says well, crap, you left one of my daughters to be with the other what do you want me to say. I’m annoyed. He says it’s not like that. She also tells him he shouldn’t use his son to try and win her over either because as a mom she’ll do anything for her son including live with you and stomps out begging him not to ask questions if he doesn’t like the answer he gets. OK this was weird, I had no idea she hated him so much. Oh well, Telenovela land. And that’s the end for tonight.

Doña Bárbara - Wed., Oct. 29: Santos still doesn't know the truth; Gonzalo found out the truth and Lucía gets really bad news

Marisela is about to tell Santos that DB lost her baby when in her mind she hears Gonzalo's warnings that Santos will have no sympathy for DB once he knows she isn't pregnant anymore. Santos doesn't help matters by his reaction when Marisela says that she wants to talk about DB. She doesn't tell him that DB lost the baby. Instead, she tells him that DB needs to see a psychiatrist.

Eustaquia identifies the people in the photograph to DB but she says that she doesn't know any of them. DB leaves the photo on a table and Gonzalo finds it.

Cecilia tells Lucía that she is asking her to be her executioner and she can't do that. Lucía says that she only wants Cecilia to be her baby's guardian angel. Lucía says that she never robbed Antonio from Cecilia because they still love each other. She just borrowed him for a little while but now she will return him and he won't be alone. Cecilia won't agree to do what Lucía is asking. She says that she has to leave. Outside the room, Antonio has heard their conversation. He says that he can't choose between his daughter and Lucía. Cecilia assures him that he won't have to choose. Everything will be all right.

Santos tells Marisela that DB is just pretending like always. Marisela says that DB isn't pretending. She has a whole different personality - loving, feminine caring. Santos won't buy it. He says that DB is manipulating them like she always has. DB comes in and Marisela tells DB to remind Santos about their love.

Genoveva tells Melesio that she is leaving to go back to San Fernando with Marisela. She says that she wants to change her life. She wants to continue her edcuation. She says that she wants to succeed on her own and never get married. "So you're going to become a nun," says Melesio. Geno starts to say that she can't become a nun anymore but catches herself. She says that she wants to live her life alone like Cecilia. Melesio points out that Cecilia isn't alone. She has a son. Geno leaves and the alcaraván starts to call again.

Santos tries to find out if Marisela is right. When DB tells Santos that she is happy because she loves him and he loves her and they are going to have a baby, he tells DB that many bad things have happened between them. DB says that he is exaggerating. DB launches into a fantasy about the first time they made love and says that she was a virgin. Santos is surprised and says that she had many lovers before she met him and has a daughter. DB asks if Santos isn't Marisela's father. Now Santos is convinced that DB is bonkers. He says that she has to go to a see a doctor. DB says that there is no need for that.

Geno takes a tearful leave of the terneras and Melesio.

Gonzalo is very pleased with himself for having found out about DB's secret.

DB runs from Santos into Marisela's arms and tells him that she won't go see a doctor.

Marisela and Santos hatch a plan to get DB to a doctor. Marisela invites DB to go shopping for the baby with her in San Fernando.

Marisela, Genoveva and DB are walking along the street in San Fernando. Geno says that she can't believe this woman is the Doña. Marisela replies that DB is sick and defeated and she feels sorry for her. Geno says that she likes this DB better and suggests that maybe this is the real DB and the other was the sick one. Marisela says that she has never seen DB so happy. Geno says that her mother died when she was very young and she imagines that her mother would be like DB is now. She asks Marisela how DB was when Marisela was a child. Marisela says that DB was cold and heartless. She never kissed or hugged Marisela. While they watch DB buy a giant teddy bear from a street vendor, Marisela says that she always wanted a teddy bear but her mother never even bought her a toy. Her father was drunk all the time and the only one who showed her any affection was Juan Primito. DB gives the big teddy bear to Marisela and hugs her.

When Marisela suggests that she and DB visit Lucía in the hospital, DB gets agitated and runs away. Marisela and Genoveva search for her but with no success.

Antonio tells Gonzalo that his investigation could not find any connection between Sapo and the attack on El Miedo. Gonzalo says that he thought the accusation against Sapo was ridiculous and urges Gonzalo to drop the investigation. When Antonio mentions Santos' suspicions, Gonzalo says Santos has made accusations without any proof. He should allow the police to do their job.

Gonzalo casually asks Antonio if has known DB for a long time. He says that DB has been around for 20 years. Gonzalo asks Antonio to tell him about DB's past. After hearing the story, Gonzalo tells Antonio that DB's history is terrible. Antonio is called to the hospital. When he is gone, Gonzalo says that he has finally figured out the puzzle (rombecabeza, a puzzle, literally, a 'head breaker') of Sapo's relationship to DB.

Juan Primito tells Melquíades that DB has gone to San Fernando.

Melquíades confronts Santos and asks how he let DB go so far away and that she is in danger. He accuses Santos of abandoning DB because he wants Marisela. Santos says that he asked Melquíades to disclose who DB's enemy is but he refused. Melquíades says that DB did not want him to tell. Santos replies that if something happens because of Melquíades' foolish promise to DB, it will be Melquíades' fault.

Marisela and Genoveva can't find DB and they ask for Gonzalo's help. He alerts the police to be on the lookout for DB.

Fidel Castell shows up at Gonzalo's office and Gonzalo shows that he knows his past by calling him Sapo. Sapo is impactado.

Gonzalo tells Sapo that he knows all about Sapo's past as a rapist and murderer and that it is all written down.

Pajarote comes to see Genoveva with a pineapple but the other terneras tell him that she has left Progresso for good. They are scornful when he tells them that he is surprised that Geno left without telling him.

The doctor tells Don Encarnacion and Antonio that they have to do a C-section on Lucía right away. DE asks how that can be - Lucía is only six months pregnant. The doctor says that there is no choice. If they don't act now, both Lucía and the baby could die.

Gonzalo tells Sapo that if he gets so much as a scratch, Sapo will be destroyed. He tells Sapo that he doesn't care about Sapo's feud with DB. He is only interested in making money. He tells Sapo not to go after DB any more. Sapo replies that DB won't forget and will go after him.

Lucía begs the doctor not to operate. She knows that her baby is fully developed yet. The doctor says that if there was any other option, he would take it but the baby is in danger, too. Cecilia comes into Cecilia's room with the priest and Lucía asks him to stay

Marisela just misses seeing DB go into the building where Gonzalo's office is. Santos and Melquíades arrive and Marisela tells them that DB has disappeared.

DB is in Gonzalo outer office when Gonzalo and Sapo come into the room. DB is impactada.

MEPS Mar 8, Wed, - Games of Hide and Seek

Good Evening, Here is the post wind posting, which means the dish did not run away with the spoon. The captions got turned off with my fumbling with the remote and I did not get them back on until the very last break, but I like a good challenge and at least all these characters enunciate a lot better than Marichuy so I can be grateful I work on MEPS tonight.

Martina's Papa replays how Martina had mysterious money and he decides she is a good thief not a good nurse. Ciro's nurse is having problems watching her patient suffer, in response, Dr. Obregon (Matamentos to us) disparages the nurse with his crack wondering if she has had short courses in first aid (primeros auxilios cursillos) and then looks in horror as Ciro calls out for help, murmuring Liliana.

Liliana calls out for help too. She doesn't want to go to the Hacienda, no one loves her there, she wants to stay with Eduardo. Franco walks in the other room where Jacinto and Margarita are distracting Martina. He thanks Martina who calls him sir and doesn't seem to recognize him.

Fernanda has dreams: She is running in her bride pure white peignoir screaming for Eduardo, she wakes up hugging her self

Franco has dreams: He is approaching the fireside calling for Erika but sees Fernanda is sitting there. WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE? He asks, she turns with anger to retort What are you playing at, it was you who sent the flowers and the card, why are you playing with me why did you do this you destroyed my wedding vows (dichos). I love you with all my strength, and with all my being. You can just tell he kisses better than dumbass Damian. He half awakens can't, I shouldn't love you.

Sound of footsteps (pisadas) and the big cats chant while Pris rubs her belly with a satisfied smile.

Jacinto rides his bike, Gardenia shakes her pretty curls and fixes pillows, but can't resist looking in the guest room where she sees two sleeping women. Pretty but not so smart, she suspects something fishy or wishes something was fishy. Jacinto comes in and she starts her usual rant about how things just aren't normal here and she isn't going to put up with it. Jacinto calmly asks, Is Señor Franco here? Something is fishy here, the house is full of women, she continues mindlessly. This guy (fulano), what nerve (descaro). Close your beak, warns Jacinto because you don't know what is going on. I have suspicions (sospechos). EdFranco appears looking fierce says the condition is that you would not ask questions and you have broken your word.

Anibal aka Anyoneseenmyballs wonders how they got back to the house last night. Last night was an aberration, he whines, how could this occur. I just remember that I stayed there and You left. No they (those floozy women) were only there to relax you and get you ready.

Gardenia wants to forget it all and fix breakfast. Eduardo decides to give her the day off. She is relieved she isn.t losing her job. She wants to grab her sweater and Franco warns her not to make noise and wake the guests. - Break

Something strange happened but I don't remember anything, grogs Anibal. Priscilla brags, I have to go to get the analysis. What analysis? of my pregnancy! Did we make love? Well in a manner of speaking , technically, she hesitates but then cheerfully assures him. But all in all it went off perfectly.

Dumbian is soaping up his chest and yelps at an attack or a cold breeze in the room, well surprised anyway.

Jacinto discusses his fears. He thinks they must be sounding an alarm at the escape of Liliana. Ed says no he thinks something else is going on and he is going to go check with Obregon to find out what is up at the asylum and why they are silent about Lili.

Martina's Papa comes to the hospital to look for Martina and is told there is no nurse with that name. Cute Young Doctor sees him walk out and asks what Papa wanted, The nurse tells him he asked for the same Martina that he was asking about the other day.

Fernanda and Gonzo have breakfast together. He tells her that Barbara is afraid that family matters are affecting her new marriage. Oh Santa Barbara, Gonzo always sings your praises.

The body attack in the shower is Guess Who. Damian isn't happy about the intrusion, but Barb takes time to conquer his objections with undressing enough to show his what a pretty bra she is wearing she grabs him for a sizzling kiss (maybe she should work on Anibal's inhibitions) he actually says enough! She reminds him that the only one who decides things here is HER.

Margarita is gazing at an old photo of a pretty girl with braided hair, must be Soledad and loading up the donkey cart with the last of Soledad's personal things. Margi and the helper pull the donkey who isn't too stubborn but is probably pulling more than Jethro ever has to carry.

In the garden, Baba shows up with her dress back in place, Gonzo explains that Barbara is the one who cares for Nanda as if she were her own daughter. Barbara smiles innocently (do I smell smoke)?

Anibal breaks into a dark bedroom to wake up the useless Camilo, who doesn't want to get up, they argue about going over to see Franco and talk horses. Camilo resists but is given 10 minutes to get up and dressed. Anibal is determined to keep working on Franco. He also snaps at Damian for waking in to interrupt, Can't you see I am busy berrating here. He adds that Damian should not be thinking he can work whatever hours he wants just because he is part of the family now.

Obregon is surprised that the baseball capped stranger is asking for Liliana. Guess who? Good thing Obregon isn't a woman, this disguise would not have worked, who looks at the top of FC's head??? - Break

Who are you? A friend of the Elizalde family. Obregonzo picks up the phone in a threat to get permission and insinuates that surely he knows that she is restricted from visits. Now Ed calls his bluff and says, I think you have another problem. LIli escaped didn't she, and now you should try to call the Elizaldes and tell them she is gone.

Martina and Liliana enjoy the grass and sunshine. Don't you want to go back to your nice hacienda, to your papa and brothers? No, no, moans Lili. She only wants to be with Eduardo Juarez. But why are you calling Franco Santoro Eduardo? asks the clueless Martina.

Back to the sparing match with Santoro and Matamentes: It's not important who I am or that you inform the Elizaldes about my viist. What is important is that Lili has escaped and it is all your fault. Obregon offers this formidible visitor a chair to discuss terms, Ed pretends to call the Elizalde hacienda to Obregon's horror.

Anibal honks for Camilo, Barbara walks out and complains what are you doing, stop making a scandal. Anibal then tells her that they are going off to the Santoro's hacienda. BOW doesn't look happy at being left out once again.

Fernanda explains to Damian that her parents are trying to help them have a good time with their marriage. She call him Monstro with innocent flirting and they almost almost kiss but his phone goes off which gives us another breathless moment waiting for the phone throwing, but it is Barb and she tells him about the brothers visit with Franco and he better get on top of the business meetings. He gets off and says there is a problem with the processing plant Pasteurization process. She wants to work on the chapel service he yells that Soledad's own son could not show up for the funeral. He freaks then turns and thinks better of it and comes back in for a tender kiss but she doesn't seem particularly turned on by it. Her wistfullness is noticeable.

Aurora is packing again, and Santii comes in from running in his hippy kerchief What is happening he says overly cheerful She is going she says with no cheer at all.

Wow, the clinic reports are handed over to Ed. Obregon officiously wants him to understand that this information is confidential. Who are you For your good you should regard me as a phantom (fantasma) he takes the file.

Anibal and Camilo argue over horses and business with Franco. Anibal warns him not to ruin the business deal.

Aurora says she thinks Santi is the best person in the world but she has to go. She can't find her mother in the city she doesn't even know the name she would be using so she will return to her village and try to find the name and more information there. Santi says perfect, I'll go with you.

Martina does Lili's nails and surmises that MudBar Boss will come to look for her at her Papa's house and will spill the beans about her not being a nurse.

Ani and Cami show up at Franco's, Martina goes see who has arrived, She tells Lili she will do all her nails but she can put some of the polish on too, she will be right back. The boys approach, Martina struts out in short skirt and heels . Asunto? she says with great attitude. We are looking for Franco Santoro. He's not here. My name is Anibal and this is Camilho Elizalde. =Break

Cami wants to go since Santoro isn't home Damian calls Anibal. I am at the plant. Tell me somethlng I don't know says brotherly Anibal. I want to tell you that there is a problem with the Pasteurization. Martina goes inside saying she will return in a minute and Cami says Vale. (often used in Spain to indicate how cool something is) in appreciation of Franco's style.

At the beauty shop Priscila wrapped in a towels ignores a call on her cell phone from Vladi who whines, why don't you answer? Don't you know I need to hear your voice? Hmmmm is this the last we hear from him?

Martina runs back to Lili who is so proud of her nails. When Martina tells her her brothers are on the other side of the house, Lili freaks, and runs out into the yard. Back inside, Cami wants to run too but Anibal is staying put until Santoro shows up

Aurora wants to say goodbye to you, Fernanda, explains Santi. She is tired of all the lies. But Santii gallantly says all the lies were from him. Fernanda is glad they are going to run off together, hot foot it. Santi says he is going too. The maid says she has a call from the States. When Santi says why the States, Fernanda leaves the room, she is just trying to verify why Eduardo didn't show yesterday.

Franco says, this file reads like a catalog of tranquilizers. What is the diagnosis he demands, She isn't sick, other people are sick.

Nurse comes in to say that Ciro is in distress about Lili and Eduardo threatens again that Obregon needs to take the phone, dial the number and tell the Elizaldes that someone wants to see LIli and he is calls to verify and get it approved. Again Obregon demands his name nervously and Franco writes down Eduardo Juarez!

Fernanda finishes her call to the States. she is irritated that he isn't coming to deal with the arrangements but Santi says what she is really doing is trying to search for the first man she ever loved in her life. Break

Last round: Fernanda says we were playmates when we were children that's all. Santi isn't buying it, he insists, she is altered by the proximity of Eduardo You don't need to explain anything to me, I am not accusing nor judging you. This is hard for you to assimilate and it will cost you work to realize that if you don't deal with it now you will have to keep this inside all your life. Others won't judge you but you are going to be judging yourself. Sweet Brother gives a sweet kiss.

Lili runs from Martina crying that Eduardo has betrayed her. No, Martina shows her how to hide behind the hedge and that if she wants, she will hide her (from the Boyz) and they they will both flee some where. Martina hopes Franco show up soon.

Bow gives the jaunty chauffeur, the Soledad house since Eduardo didn't show up yesterday. Great cheer at his sudden good luck.

Margarita is talking to Gardenia about the wild things Gardenia imagines Margi tells her to settle down. Gardenia is going to be stupid me thinks before she wises up. .

Cami and Anibal are inside waiting for Franco. Cami laughs in his crazy cackle saying when Franco shows up if they can't talk about horses, they can also switch to rented females (alquiladas hembras). So suave, so suave.

Next: Eduardo is hiding Lili in his house and Babara must have heard that Liliana was visited by Eduardo in the clinic, does she know Liliana is gone?

MEPS, April 7th - It's Almost Easter and Nanda Still Doesn't Want to Do the Bunny Hop - Hop, Hop, Hop!

From last night: Jairo finds bald guy on the floor. Martina shows up at Jacinto’s and asks Jacinto if he remembers Liliana Elizalde and pushes her to the front door. Margs and Jacinto are shocked to see her.

Dr. Plutarco Obregon (that name Plutarco just kills me) is at the hospital and the attending doctors tell Dr. Matamentes that Ciro has regained consciousness and that his condition is stable, but his prognosis is “sombrio” (which literally means “shady”, but in this case I think it’s more like “doubtful”), and they don’t believe he’ll make it through the night. Pluto signs the release form and the nurse tells him that Ciro has been calling out for someone named Liliana ever since he regained consciousness. Ciro brushes it off saying that the patient is psychotic and well, you know, that’s how those psychotics are. They cart Ciro off to the ambulance to return him to the looney bin.

Santiago, still out for the evening with Aurora, is on his cell phone talking with Fernanda and telling her he doesn’t want to be at the ridiculous Cena de Perdon. She says Cadmilho is not in a very good mood now that he’s seen Errorika with Franco Santoro, the executive of Pow-where Meeelk. Smart Nanda pops into her thoughts and poses the question, “This Mystery Man, why does he make me feel such restlessness (“inquietud”).

At the Dinner Table of Doom, just as Cadmilho is shoving a carrot into his mouth that just happens to be the same color orange as his fake bake, Francuardo asks who the empty chairs are for. Anyballs says they’re for Santiago and his girlfriend. Prisci explains that the Aurora is from Guadalajara and that she’s a sculptor. BadAssBarb thought bubbles that it’s just a made up story. Nanda comes back to the dining room and makes excuses for Santiago. Franco changes the subject and says he thought Gonzo had once told him Gonzo had 5 kids. Errorika tells him there’s another daughter named Liliana. Oh yeah, it’s all coming back to Francuardo now, Liliana doesn’t live at home. Gonzo explains that Liliana is sick and that’s why she doesn’t live at home. Francuardo the metiche (nosy one), asks how long it’s been since Liliana isn’t living at home. (Seriously – would you ask that???? Ever???) Fernanda says it’s been 15 years. Babs says there’s no hope for her return. An “awkuardo” moment follows.

Over at Jacinto’s, Martina is telling the story of how Liliana was found by Jairo, but she’s sure Jairo doesn’t recognize her. Martina says Jairo told her that until somebody from her family shows up to claim her he was going to use her. Margs asks Lili if she remembers her and Lili does. Jacinto asks how she got to the Cantina, but all Lili can say is “Eduardo”, and Martina says that Lili keeps saying that Eduardo is here. All three are impactado.

Back at the Cantina of Mud, they’ve bandaged up Graciano, the bald guy, and Jairo is pissed. Jairo offer up Venus to keep him company all night long. Jairo starts to leave and Venus wants to know where he’s going. Jairo’s off to find Martina. Venus is worried and asks G-d to protect her friend.

Jacinto’s is riding his bicycle through the night like a bat out of hell. At the same time Jairo busts into Don Silvestre’s humble abode and scares the crapola out of Don Silvestre. Uh oh, I think Martina’s secret is just about out. Don Silvestre threatens Jairo with a knife. Jairo says he’s there to find Martina and that once Martina returns what’s his that’ll be that. Don Silvestre has no clue what Jairo’s talking about and says Martina wouldn’t have anything to do with somebody like him. Jairo says “You’re daughter is no nurse! She works for me every night and takes care of my clients!” Silvestre is furious and wants to defend his daughter’s honor. For an old guy, Gepetto’s pretty agile with that knife, huh? Jairo says Martina screwed up his business deal. Gepetto threatens him with the knife again and Jairo skedaddles to the door but stops and tells Silvestre to tell Martina that this isn’t over!

Back at Rich People’s Land, Franco is asking Damian what happened with his meeting with Pow-Where Meeelk. Damian says that he left two messages for Esteve and that he was told that Pow-Where Meeelk had no interest in investing with Grupo Intolerancia de Lactos. Francuardo says that’s strange because Meester Nortone was one of the most interested ones. Francuardo tells them not to worry because Nor-tone, the Vice President is one of the hardest and difficult guys he’s known in his whole life, but Franco doesn’t think the deals finished yet. Babs is not happy with this news and thinks to herself, for her part this business will never happen.

Francuardo’s cell phone rings – Jacinto calling to tell him that Liliana has shown up. Frankie is impactado.

Just as Pluto’s finished taking a slug off his flask, Adolfina comes to say how worried she is about Ciro. No compassion from Senior Pluto. He’s sure Ciro tried to commit suicide for a diversion so Liliana could escape. He whips out the flask and takes another snort off it right in front of Adolfina who is shocked. Adolfina thinks they should let Ciro’s family know, but Pluto’s says they’re not doing a think until La Loca Elizalde shows up. Adolfina thinks Liliana has headed back to her house. Pluto is pretty worried now.

The dinner is over and on the way to the front door Franco continues blowing fake sunshine up the backsides of the Elizaldes about the potential alliance of the two Meeelk companies. He asks Fernanda what her role in the company is and she answers Human Resources and the ______ Program. He says that’s good because when a company is in crisis the first thing they do is cut people, all the executives care about is money, that it’s the workers who actually built up the company. They all agree and Frankie thanks them for the delicious dinner and their hospitality, but there’s only one more thing – he seems to have lost Errorika. Polite chuckling all the way around. Errorika is having a chat with Cadmilho and tells him the only reason she’s there is for Fernanda. Cad thinks otherwise – he’s sure it’s to make him jealous and act like the victim. She says she doesn’t care what he thinks, and that thanks to him she’s met a real man, not a farce of a man like Cad is. Cad laughs his stupid laugh and tells her that when Franco find out just how ridiculous she is, she better not come lookin’ for him. She can’t believe his audacity and he continues but this time he pokes her in the head for emphasis and she challenges him to hit her again. Just then, Francuardo shows up and gives Cadmilho an extra firm pat on the chest. Cad says Errorika was just saying goodbye to an old friend. Franki and Erika leave, smugly.

Outside, Santiago and Aurora are just getting back. They’re two happy little angels in love.

More goodbyes, and just as they’re about to leave, Errorika sees an imaginary piece of schmutz on Fr/Ed’s mouth and lovingly brushes it away and gives him a kiss. Fernanda looks uncomfortable. The two fake novios leave.

Prisci crabbing at Anyballs again about their “homework”. She wants to take him someplace, but she’s not telling him where, but tonight he’s going to get her pregnant.

In her bedroom, Nanda wonders to herself why she asked Fr/Ed not to say anything to Dumian about their first two meetings. Out loud she tells herself she’s a liar in front of “him”. Dumian just happens to be passing by and asks who she lied to. She flubs a story and says in front of him, of course. He asks her to explain, but his phone rings – it’s his mommy. He doesn’t answer. He wants her to tell him the truth.

Franco’s dropping Erika off. Franco’s phone rings – it’s Jacinto telling him Liliana has not stopped asking for him. He tells Jacinto he’ll be there in 20 minutes. Erika asks for 2 minutes of his time. She asks him who he really is – Francuardo is muy impactado! He basically says what she sees is what she gets and he can’t tell her anything more. She is definitely falling for him. She tells him she thinks he’s the greatest guy ever. She can’t understand why he’d want to help her.

Nanda tells Damian that with all that’s been happening, Nana died, Eduardo never showed up, she just can’t relax. Dumian says he’s been patient, but he’s a man with blood running through his veins. He wants to make her his. She starts to look like she’s gonna be sick while he kisses her neck.

Franco tells Erika she just looked like someone who needed help and he wanted to help her. She kisses him on the mouth and he not too happy. I don’t think she’s getting the message though. She gets out of the car.

Damian continues trying to seduce Nanda, but of course, she stops him. She asks him to understand, she can’t be with him, she doesn’t understand why either. He pressures her, but says he’s incapable of forcing her to do it (“incapaz de tomarte por la fuerza”). He goes to leave and he says he’s going to sleep in the guest room. She cries – he leaves. The minute he’s gone she starts crying that it’s all Eduardo’s fault – he ruined her wedding.

Prisci and Anibal arrive at their destination. Two men that look like bodyguards or bounders help them out of the car.

Babs is on her way upstairs with a glass of Sleepy-Time Meelk for Gonzo and runs into Damian headed downstairs for a drink. She tells him to get back upstairs and attend to his woman. He explains that Nanda ain’t givin’ it up, now she’s upset because Eduardo never showed. Babs tells him this is a fiasco and he says what – you want me to take her by force?

Prisci and Anyballs are inside what looks like a very high class bordello. Prisci introduces them to a woman dressed like a geisha, who takes them upstairs to a room and tells them to make themselves comfortable.

Freddie shows up at Jacinto’s and Jacinto tells him that Martina, Don Silvestre’s daughter brought her.

Back at Psychoville, Pluto is freakin’ out now that Dumb and Dumber, the hospital goons (who are dressed like they’ve been working in a freezing cold meat locker). Adolfina comes in to tell that Ciro has taken a turn for the worse. Pluto runs out.

Fr/Ed enters Ed’s house. Liliana is thrilled to see him and says “Eduardo”. Great, now Martina knows too. How long till the rest of the pueblo finds out?

Pluto is standing over Ciro’s bed cursing him and Liliana both for complicating his life.

Back at the House of Ill Repute, Geisha Lady has given Prisci a book filled with pictures of women. She hands the book to AnyBalls and tells him to pick a girl or girls, that he likes. Looks like Anyballs needs a freakin’ road map to figure out what’s going on.

Liliana says Eduardo again. He asks why she thinks he’s Eduardo. She says because of his “look” (mirada). She says he knows he didn’t do anything wrong, that he loved Fernanda, and they were both punished. He says yes, he still loves Fernanda.

Looks like Anyballs has made a choice. Prisci has given the book back to Geisha lady. Anyballs wants to know if Prisci’s gone crazy. She tells him to enjoy the moment. In comes a blond and a redhead and they begin to seduce AnyBalls while Prisci watches. The look on his face is like he’s at the dentist’s office with the drill inches from his teeth and no novacaine.

Virginal Fernanda tosses and turns in her bed.

Babs tells Gonzo she’s worried about Nanda. She says she should be enjoying herself with Damian and they should be handling all the problems for her. He thanks her for opening his eyes. Damn she’s a good liar.

Prisci patiently waits for AnyBalls. He gets up and tells her this whole thing is absurd. She gives him more champagne and leads him back to the girls and then it looks like she leaves the room, but peaks from behind the room divider. Now he looks a little more into it and starts kissing the blond like he means it. Hmmm . . . apparently he’s allergic to Prisci. She continues to watch.

Don Silvestre is remembering the big wad of money he found in the cookie jar and now he’s realizing that Jairo was telling him the truth and he cries.

Martina tells Jacinto she couldn’t leave Lili at the Cantina like that.

Adolfina tells Doctor Pluto she doesn’t think Ciro is going to regain consciousness and they better tell his wife and son about his fall. Pluto insults her intelligence. She feels bad for Ciro and says the only medicine that will help Ciro is if Liliana comes back.

Lili is explaining to Eduardo about Dr. Awful. He wants to know if she wants to go back to the hacienda and she says no, she wants to stay with him. (Get in line honey!!!)

Previews: AnyBalls introduces himself and Cadmilho to Martina. Barbie wants to get it on with Damian, but Damian is not in the mood this time and Barb is pissed. Santiago, with a red bandana on his head, looking like a cross between one of the 7 Dwarfs or a Smurf, asks Nanda if she’s sure she doesn’t want to see the first boy she ever fell in love with again. Freddie, in what looks like a disguise, goes to see Pluto and it looks Eduardo may blackmail him.

Doña Bárbara - Tues., Apr. 7 - Marisela gets the loving mother she always wanted complete with a fantasy happy childhood

Eustaquia tells Marisela how DB lost her baby and how she has lost her reason. Marisela says that now she understands why DB is being so nice and caring with her.

Don Encarnación and some of the men from the Cattlemen's Association come to Altamira demanding to know what the newspaper story means.

Antonio and the boat captain try to investigate whether Sapo's vehicles were used in the attack on El Miedo but they don't have a warrant and Sapo claims that he was in the capital the night of the attack.

Pajarote gets a nasty surprise when he realizes that it is Celeste who is naked in his shower. He throws her out but of course it's too late, Genoveva has seen them.

Eustaquia tells Marisela that DB just changes the subject when Eustaquia tries to tell her that she last lost the baby. She says it is as if there are two people living in her body - one they know who is tough and full of hate and the other who is loving, maternal and sweet. Marisela says that what Eustaquia has told her is horrible. She goes to find DB.

Gonzalo thinks that DB is putting on an act and is surprised when she keeps up the act even when they are alone. Marisela comes in and says that she has to talk to DB but DB says that Marisela should spend some time with her fiancé.

Santos tells DE that he will call a meeting of the Cattlemen's Association in Progresso for the next day to address the charges in the newspaper article.

Pajarote has showered and put on cologne - evidently a rare practice for him as María Nieves observes. Pajarote confides to MN that he is going to see his girl and asks MN to wish him luck because he's decided to turn into a 'tame ox' ('buey manso'), i.e., settle down, like the others.

Genoveva tells Pajarote that she saw him with Celeste and that she never wants to see him again.

Marisela goes to see DB and DB tells her the fantasy version of her childhood - how they played with dolls together for hours, how DB sang lullabies to her every night. Poor Marisela - all of a sudden she gets what she has always wished for - a loving mother.

She lies down in DB's lap like a child. DB even has her own version of throwing Marisela out of El Miedo. She says that Marisela's father insisted that she go to a girl's school and that she opposed it but Lorenzo insisted.

When Santos and Gonzalo start fighting like 6-year olds again, Marisela leaves Altamira with Gonzalo.

It appears that Sapo got someone in the capital to get parking tickets issued to him for the night of the attack as proof that he wasn't at El Miedo. The boat captain and Antonio suspect that Sapo was warned about their visit but decide to continue their investigation.

Marisela tells Gonzalo that DB has gone crazy because she lost her baby. Marisela decides that she has to tell Santos. Naturally, Gonzalo argues against this and Marisela doesn't see that he is protecting his own interests.

The next day Gonzalo returns to Altamira. He thinks that DB is pretending but he soon realizes that DB has completely lost her mind ('loca de remate'). He finds the picture of Meléndez that Sapo sent to Santos and the letter describing how DB fed Meléndez' body to the soldiers.

Eustaquia tries to jar DB out of her insanity by mentioning the murder of her boyfriend and father that she witnessed. But DB doesn't react and she claims that she has never been in the forest but says she and her baby will go there someday.

Santos tries to control the meeting of the Cattlemen's Association. Néstor comes in. Santos asks where he got his supposed information and who was his source. Néstor says that he didn't have a source (fuente, which means a source as we use that word in English but also means a fountain or a spring). Néstor tells Santos and the Cattlemen's Association that someone paid the newspaper to publish the story and shows them where the paper says this and denies responsibility for the content of the article. Néstor says that he has come to tell Santos that someone in San Fernando doesn't like him.

To prevent any hint of impropriety, Santos resigns from the presidency of the Cattlemen's Association. He warns the members not to let themselves be divided.

Lucía tells Cecilia that if, when she gives birth, a choice has to be made between her life and that of her baby, she wants her baby to live. She makes Cecilia promise to defend her wishes.

When Marisela says that she has decided to tell Santos about DB losing the baby, Gonzalo tries to argue that Santos would mistreat DB more if he knew she was not, in fact, pregnant and that would make DB's condition worse.

Eustaquia tries again to shock DB out of her delusions. She shows her the picture of the rapists. DB has a flood of memories.

Marisela tells Gonzalo that he is exaggerating about how Santos would react to the information about DB losing her baby. She says that she doesn't like to lie and so she has decided to tell Santos and at that moment, he comes in the door and asks what she has to tell him.

Tontas Tuesday April 7, '09 Let's Call The Whole Thing Off

Remember that old song?...you say 'tomayto' and I say 'tomahto', you say 'potayto' and I say 'potahto' yada yada yada...Let's Call The Whole Thing Off! Well, that's pretty much what happened tonight.

Santiago wants to call off the wedding (again) but is forging ahead. Lucia wants to call off the party Santi's planning behind her back. Pato wants to call off adopting the baby. And Candy wants to call off her relationship with Pato (He's not the "man of my life" is the half-carrot she dangles before a starving Santiago at the end). Both of these guys must have whiplash by now, the way she keeps changing her responses. Gotta side with Mike on this one...both fellas deserve better. But you know....everybody wants Candy. That's the way this one plays out.

The first five minutes of the show are a rehash of Candy's snit with Pato over the adoption; Marissa's manipulation of Santiago, and the hysterical vision of Alicia and Marissa back to back, à la Jolie/Pitt, lining up Candy and Santiago in their sights. Once again a truly gruesome twosome.

Now the new stuff: Arturo's buttering up his wannabe-ex-wife, trying to get her to call off the divorce dogs. He definitely doesn't want to give her half his money and she's just as sure she's earned it....the sleepless nights, the abuse, the infidelities, having to raise little Patricio all by herself because Arturo was never home. You were a bad father and a worse husband, she concludes. Arturo agrees but he's heard enough and leaves....sticking her with the restaurant bill. Be sure and add a good tip, are his parting words. A bemused Margarita (I think that's her name) muses that she still finds him attractive and likes him. Dang!

I thought that was pretty funny but the writers want us to laugh more so we have the obligatory Sven and Olé scene. Sven, or rather Santoro, is sweating the prospect of taking Soledad out to dinner but Meño assures him he can wine and dine her at HIS restaurant and he'll cover all the charges. This earns him mucho kisses and hugs and makes Olé (Toño) think maybe his pal is a little light on his feet.

From shallow comedy to shallow therapy. Nurse Candy tells Santiago he has no right to be bitter even if crazy Marissa is sucking the energy out of him as he claims. She takes him for a walk, showing him the world of nature and how God created this whole world just for him! They make the grand tour of the grounds around the house and wrap it up with a question for Donato. What does he think of Santiago? High praise follows, ending with Donato saying he'd love to have him for a son. Now into the house where Candy points out that he has two lovely daughters, a wonderful mama...he's surrounded by love and therefore has no right to stalk around all bitter and downhearted. End of lesson. Go in peace.

All of this is true of course, but her Little Merry Sunshine had me reaching for the insulin.

No need for that though with the Alicia/Marissa scene. They're fussing back and forth at each other as usual and when Alicia finds out Marissa doesn't intend to show for the wedding she muses that she will skip it too. (me da flojera ir= I can't be bothered going).

Okay, back to the odd couple...Santiago and Candy, trying to be friends while secretly wanting to jump each other's bones. He's coming up with some heavy-duty mathmatical formulas for how many kisses good friends can give each other....and out of that astronomical number at least ONE kiss could be on the mouth. Candy, of course, demurs. But she offers up Tina, who's all for it and adds that her room is open. Poor Santi...he keeps getting offers but always from the wrong women.

More fussing between our crazy ladies. Alicia doesn't know why they have to be at the airport 3 hours early and she also objects to being forced into massaging Marissa's back (with plenty of criticism) as well as being called "gorda".....why not "flaca"...or "super-flaca".?! As I recall, Marissa snaps that she'll call her whatever she darn well pleases (que me da la regalada gana) and that's that. Now massage!..'cause my back hurts.

We're temporarily off the topic of kisses and onto planning a party for Lucia, and a forgiveness opportunity for Charlie. But not before Candy huffily insists she doesn't need permission from Patricio to spend time with Santiago planning a party or anything else. Hmmm...she's definitely dangling the carrot here. Phase 1.

Meanwhile, poor clueless Pato, unaware the grounds and the rules are shifting once again, is being gently bossed around by Chava. No watching soccer on TV until homework is done! Dad protests that he doesn't have any homework but finally settles for working on his accounts while Chava struggles with his math. Then he's ready to watch but wait! no, first he has to look over Chava's work. Them's the rules, fella. Mom makes 'em.

Back at Santi's, the kiss theme has continued. Donato's offering Tina kisses for free, Isabella sends him off to work outside instead, and then Mom and Santiago start planning the party, (with some worries from Granny) while Lucio listens at the door. Isabella frets that if Lucia forgives Charlie, they'll start going together again. Well, love isn't prohibited, as long as they're careful, advises Santiago. But what future does Charlie have? Well, maybe they'll just be good friends, suggests her son.

When we come back from the ads, Chava is wondering if his grandfather helped Pato with his homework when he was little. Oh noooo...he was too busy, he had to work. Well, Chava doesn't want his dad to work but Pato quickly points out he needs to if he's going to be able to buy all the things Chava and his mom need. But don't worry, he'll always make time to have fun and play as well.

Back at the Institute, the gals have convened to talk about their radio program and conclude that the topics discussed should come from the most frequently asked questions in Candy's column. And guess what?...the most frequently asked questions are about relationships...sexual relationships, with children coming in a close second. One of the questions raised is why are men so angry and aggressive. Because they're men, quips Lulu. Not all men are the same, counters Candy, some are worse! Shall we just skip the details? No?...you want 'em all...well, here's a sample, frigidity, too fast lovemaking that leaves spouse high and dry, (en medio camino), another with no desire after menopause, another....oh no, I'm sorry, I just can't go on with this. But you get the idea. Kind of a combination of Ladies Home Journal and Cosmopolitan.

Pato arrives in the midst of this lively discussion, Soledad makes a pinched, jealous little face, and Candy twitters off( amidst ooh and ahhs from the gals) for a little tête-à-tête with her esposo. She wants to know right off where Chava is...(with her mom) and Patricio then sits down to ask her forgiveness for his adoption plans with Alicia. I'm tired of lies, insists Candy. If it makes you unhappy, then I won't adopt answers Pato. Impactado look from our flawed, oh-so-flawed !heroine. And some ads.

The forgiveness theme continues with a discussion between Santiago and Lucia. She wants nothing to do with the party and she's never going to forgive Charlie! Punto. She's afraid. She's been changed by all this. She's.....but Santi gently interrupts and reminds her that in order to be free, one must forgive others and oneself. He advises her to "dejar la mochila de rencor a un lado". I must say, I loved that. You could translate it as "leave the burden of rancor to one side" but "mochila" means backpack and that what all schoolkids carry and I just loved the picture that conjured up. Perfect for speaking with an adolescent schoolgirl.

A brief but sweet scene between Chayo and Lalo follows. They're nose to nose, almost lip to lip, discussing her worries about being sterile. He's tenderly reassuring her that they're a couple, he loves her with or without children and he would never leave her for someone else. A bemused Hortensia watches all this, thinking (aloud!) that she always thought Lalo was the scum of the earth but no!... Her comely assistant is hovering nearby but Hortensia dismisses her with a snap of her fingers.

Now Patricio's with his mom who's enlisting his help in dealing with Arturo. He reassures her that he'll do all he can. He adores her and will make sure she's alright.

See, they keep righting the balance here. Santiago adores his mom. But Pato loves his mom too.
Pato's asked forgiveness on a number of occasions and has vowed to change anything that bothers Candy. Santiago's handling his life in a mature fashion, trying to do the right thing. They're equal contenders, right? Wrong. As we'll see later.

But back to our plucky little save- the- womenfolk gals. Candy's decided the theme for tonight's radio program will be "Perdonate por tus errores y fracasos" (Fogive yourself for your mistakes and failures). Their counterparts over at the Club de Abandonados are planning to sabotage their program with their own artfully improvised counterattack.

And speaking of counterattack, Patricio is now going head to head with Papa, trying to get him to fork over that contentious 50% to Mom. Nothing doing. Arturo will give her good alimony but not half! Well then you won't get to see your grandchildren. Are you blackmailing me!? Well, I learned from the best, quips Pato....and leaves. Arturo is left musing over what just happened and I can't decide if he is pleased his son's a tough negotiator or not.

The Abondonados are still scuffling and pitching ideas. Santiago would love to have a show like Friends so they could all make tons of money but from there they segue to talking about the party he's planning with guess who for entertainment?...yes, our very own Agua Mineral. This should be fun. We definitely need another performance of the group. Sure beats sermonizing. However this time Santiago's planning on writing a romantic love song.

Okay. More goofiness back at the restaurant. Zamora is nervous and talking faster chipmunk speak than Fernand on MEPS (or Marichuy on Cuidado). And fuzzy-eyed Toño (a cork "corcho"hit him in the eye) is stumbling and falling, which causes Soledad to fall over him (a fine sight in her short shorts...hope you were watching Carlos) and Zamora is so befuddled he just stands there until she says Can you HELP ME!? The date is not starting off well and it gets worse when Toño refers to her as Zamora's "novia" which she emphatically denies. Nope, not going well at all.

But what IS going well is the reconciliation between Lucia and Charlie. Candy and Santiago are hovering like proud parents while the two start off edgy and Lucia tries to explain her anger and confusion. No one warned her. No one warned me either, counters Charlie. But I love you. I'm happy YOU'RE well. I would never want to hurt you. Help me to forgive you, pleads Lucia. I feel like an assassin, sighs Charlie. "Te quiero, te quiero mucho" whispers Lucia and suddenly she melts, they hug, a big hug, and Santiago and Candy, delighted, turn to each other and take each other's hands.

Another quickie comedy scene at the restaurant with a nearly blind Toño putting a hot plate right down on Zamora's hand. It's not his night for sure.

Not Alicia's night either. Patricio arrives, angry about the problem she deliberately caused between him and his "wife" (well, I never said I wouldn't fight for you, retorts Alicia and call her Candy, not your "wife"!). Well, I'm not going to help you adopt now....I have no reason to support you in this, he concludes.

Hmmm...it will be interesting to see where this goes. I can't see Alicia giving up at this point.

Now back to Candy and Santiago. He's doing some sort of weird mystical chant thingey and then insisting that she look into his eyes (mirame in los ojos) while he tells her that he's dreaming of her (she starts to bolt) nonono...not THAT way, no he's dreaming of her as the "woman of his life". There's some mumbojumbo about her not understanding anything but suddenly...eureka! she comes up with the magic words..."Patricio is NOT the" man of my life." He's the "father of my son" but not the "man of my life".

Santiago is so encouraged he lurches forward and almost falls. Pobrecito...she's really just dangling half a carrot but it's enough for him. He's hooked again. Done for. Kaput. All over but the shoutin'.

Previews: The announcer intones what we've already guessed. Alicia is not the "obstaculo" in Patricio's life...it's Santiago.

Vocabulary:
me da flojera = I can't be bothered
guávsls = yuck, ugh (Alicia, talking with Marissa)
mochila = backpack, satchel, shoulder bag (a word you'd know if you watched Dora the Explorer with your grandchildren)
dejar la mochila de rencor a un lado = set aside the backpack of rancor (resentment)
el hoy y el ahora = lit. the day and now but we would say "the here and now"
perdonate por tus errores y fracasos= forgive yourself for your mistakes and failures
mirame en los ojos =look into my eyes( one of the obligatory phrases in all telenovelas)

Proverb of the Day = No se le puede pedir peras al olmo (lit. you can't ask pears of an elm tree) but the equivalent proverb in English is you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear

Another "peras" saying.
Saber de qué lado caen las peras = (lit. know which side the pears fall on) Know which way the wind is blowing, know how the cookie crumbles

MEPS Monday April 6

Erika brings in her mystery date, it’s Franco Santoro! Fernanda is most certainly NOT happy for her, but tries to put on a brave face. I guess Erika never knew that Franco/Ed is the ‘mystery galan’ so we can’t say she’s sticking it to her friend.

Doctor Obregon, who I have to say is VERY effeminate, runs off to the hospital to check on Ciro, who has gone into a coma. After he leaves, Ciro’s wife and son show up. Son is Orville Redenbacker, the dorky doctor from Heridas de Amor. I guess it’s in this actor’s contract that he has to wear a bow tie in all of his roles, because he is sporting one here. This particular character seems to be a Forrest Gump knockoff, slow talking and all that. In fact I’ll just call him Gump since I didn’t catch his name. Ciro’s wife and Gump want to know where Ciro is, they went to his room and he wasn’t there.

Ed/Franco and Erika sit down to talk with Fernanda and Damian. Ed puts on the charm, laying lots of compliments on the happy couple for how in love they look, etc. Meanwhile, he keeps exchanging looks with Fernanda.

Doctor Obregon is back somehow, or did he not actually leave before? My notes aren’t clear on that. Anyway he totally throws Adolfina under the bus and makes her come up with some lame excuse for Ciro not being there, she says he’s at the movies. As a self-committed patient, they allowed him to leave the property. Adolfina takes wife and Gump to Ciro’s room to wait for him. After they leave Doctor Obregon pulls out his hollow book again to find his whiskey flask.

In their room, Barbara asks Gonzalo if Eduardo ever arrived, Gonzalo says no. Damian comes in and says that Erika is here, with her date – Franco Santoro. And Franco wants the entire family here to talk business. Gonzalo gets on the phone right away to call Anibal, telling him to grab Camilo and get home ASAP.

Anibal’s phone rings again, he thinks Gonzalo wants something else, but it’s Priscilla reminding him that he has ‘homework’ that night. In typical Anibal fashion he gets all bent out of shape with her about it.

Ed and Damian are talking alone, while Fernanda has pulled Erika aside and is trying to talk her out of dating ‘Franco’. You just met him, you don’t know him, etc etc. Jealous much? Fern tells Erika to take more time so she can forget Camilo. Erika takes her shades off to show her bruises and says “as if I could ever forget.”

Camilo is in his office making out with some blond, Anibal barges in to tell him to come home right away. Camilo claims to be busy with some ‘business.’ This isn’t his woman Natasha, what happened to her?

At the mud wrestling bar, Jairo tells Martian to bring out Liliana. Martina resists. The bald guy with the mustache we saw before shows up, Jairo says that he’s the client that he wants to give Liliana to. Jairo walks away to greet the guy, Martina goes behind the counter and gets some keys out of Jairo’s jacket. She wants to take Liliana and make break for it. She talks to the other dancer, who tells her if she gets Liliana out of there she better stay gone too, she can’t come back after that!

Anibal tells a whining Camilo to come home NOW.

Barbara comes downstairs and greets Ed, to ominous music. The topic of Soledad comes up, Barbara tries to pass her off as a servant, Fernanda cuts her off and says no, she was like a mother to me. She goes on to say a lot of nice things about Soledad, making Eduardo look for a moment like he is having second thoughts about trying to ruin her life. He asks where to find a washroom and excuses himself. Fernanda immediately says she has to check on dinner.

Ciro is still in a coma.

Adolfina leaves Ciro’s wife and son in his room, as soon as she leaves they start tearing the place apart, looking for some documents. I guess they think he has some patents, or ideas good enough for patents, or something. They want to steal this stuff and get paid. Well, mom does, Gump just kind of goes along with it.

Martina tells Liliana who she is, the daughter of the blacksmith, her friend from childhood! They move to the back door, Martina tries to find the key to unlock the door. Someone walks in on them, busted!

Fernanda finds Ed out in the hall, she wants him to promise to not tell Damian that they have met before. He asks why all the secrecy about it, if it’s no big deal? Before she can answer, Erika shows up all suspicious and demanding to know what they were talking about. Ed says they were talking about HER, Fer says she’s like a sister to her! There is some general awkwardness from all of them here.

It’s the bald guy who has caught Martina and Liliana. He starts pawing at Liliana, Martina plays along like she’s a tough old whore and she’s all about this stuff. When she gets a chance, she smashes a bottle over the guy’s head, finally opens the lock, and she and Liliana escape.

Around here the captions started to act up again, showing either nothing or some text from a completely different scene. Ed/Franco asks Damian about his trip to New York, saying he hasn’t spoken to Esteve. He enjoys watching everyone twist in the wind. He starts talking, and talking, and talking about whatever.

Martina and Liliana, all boobs and short skirts (not a complaint) run down a dark street. Liliana keeps saying “Eduardo.” Martina says he has been gone forever, Liliana says he’s here.

Ciro’s wife and Gump keep tearing the room apart. Wife finds Soledad’s box, she opens it up and finds a birth certificate – with the name Artemio Bravo. When Adolfina shows up, she puts it in her pocket. So of course Eduardo will find out about the box in the next five minutes now that it doesn’t have the document any more.

Ed/Franco tells his own true story as Franco’s history, saying he was sent away at a young age when his family was being persecuted. Gonzalo says this is impossible, nobody would do that. Of course we all see right through this. Dinner is ready, the all get up to go to the table.

The captions from the mystery scene are repeated here AGAIN. Santiago and Aurora are having a lovey dovey time out, sweet talk and kissing. Tomorrow they will look for her mother.

Adolfina tells Dr. Obregon by phone about Ciro’s family tearing his room up.

More sweet talk and kissing with Santiago and Aurora.

Anibal arrives home and goes to his room, Priscilla is in her bedroom clothes and says no way to dinner, then takes off her robe to reveal some nice (though very simple) lingerie, then tells him to come over and do her or she’s calling her family and telling them whatever will ruin the Elizalde family.

Ed/Franco says he would like to stay in Mexico forever, but if the business deal doesn’t work out he’ll have to go back to New York.

Camilo enters and tries to be fake nice to Erika, who is having none of it. She gleefully tells Camilo that she and Franco are now novios. Camilo looks somewhat upset at this, but I don’t know why he should care. It’s not like she was his great love, he’s the one who was mean to her.

Anibal is putting his shirt back on, it appears he could not get his soldier to salute. He complains about all the pressure. Priscilla says fine, we’ll go to the dinner but afterwards ‘nos vamos’. Anibal asks where, but she doesn’t answer.

Dr. Obregon gets to the hospital, he tells a nurse that he’s taking Ciro back to the clinic.

Anibal arrives to dinner with Priscilla, Anibal then says hello to Erika, telling her that he didn’t recognize her with her shades on. She stands up and says she was run over by an ANIMAL.

Jairo comes into the back room and finds bald guy on the floor, the meow music is playing. I never noticed it until Friday, but it really does sound like ‘meow.’

Martina knocks on the door of Jacinto’s house and Margarita answers. She is suspicious, mostly because she thought Jacinto was cheating and here at the door is some hot girl all dressed up like a hoochie. She fetches Jacinto, who tells her NO he’s not having an affair, como crees? At the door Martina tells Jacinto that Liliana has returned, then pushes Liliana into the house.

Tomorrow – Jacinto calls Ed during the dinner to tell him about Liliana.

Las tontas no van #85, Mon 4/6, You Can’t Hit a Home Run If You Can’t Clear the Wall.

In this episode, we see both Pat and Santiago in what looks like baseball team gear. Can anyone identify the team logos. I’m just curious whether the teams are rivals.

Picking up from Friday, Chayo walks in on Ed trying to awaken Bárbara, and she assumes that he is trying to acostarse instead of despertarse. Barb and Ed try to convince her otherwise, but given Ed’s track record, Chayo knows that dog is more likely to bark than quack.

Santiago and his daughters are in his room watching a video of Lucía’s birthday party with her parents. Santi remembers swearing to his brother to be a father to Luc if anything happened to his brother, and his brother promised the same. In the video, Lucía’s mother reminds her that life is a gift to be enjoyed. Santi reminds Luc that her parents live on in their thoughts, joys, and yes, tears. He tells her that into life come trials, obstacles, and dark times. But afterwards, the sun always comes out.

Back at the amusement park, Candy tells Pat that he always does what he wants and thinks she wants the same thing. He moved in to her house without asking if she wanted him to. Pat asks, “You don’t want that?” Candy dodges as usual, “All I know is I’m glad my son is happy to have you there.” She asks him to give her time. Eating lunch, Pat tells her he wants to make up for all the lost time away from her and his son. “I love you and I want to win you back.” Candy dodges by changing the subject to soccer. When that conversation turns against her, she changes the subject yet again. Pat suggests she’s afraid she was wrong to let him into her heart. Candy says, “We we’re young then. Things can change.” Pat says he loves her more than ever, and by the way, he wants to move off the couch and into her bed. Home run? Nope, line drive was caught bouncing off the wall. He’s out.

In his garden, Marissa speculates to Santiago about what kind of sicko would send such an e-mail to Lucía. She pauses and asks, “You’re not implying that I was involved, are you?” Santi answers, “Heavens no! It was someone sick, someone with no heart.” She suggests he hire an investigator, but he would rather put his energy into making his children happy (but no mention of his wife). When she’s not looking, he cringes. Mar continues, “You won’t leave me alone with my baby, will you?” Santiago dodges, “Our baby.”

Hortensia and Carlo are out on their date, and he intersperses blatant flattery with shoulder punches.

Meño talks with the family the next morning.

Beto asks his mom why his dad can’t live with him instead of with Chava.

Raúl calls Candy to tell her he’ll carry her column again, but she’s not going to make it easy for him.

Santiago shows Mar the baby’s room, but she has no interest in decorating it. Trying to stay as upbeat as possible with 3M (Maniac Mama Marissa), he threatens to decorate it in Club America colors, but she cuts him off cold. “Quit the delusions!” (Deje de hacerte illusiones.) He’s taken aback so 3M tries to cover, “What if he doesn’t like fútbol?” Santi says, “My son and I agreed.” He talks to the belly, “Son, you’ll be an America fan, right?” But then he pulls away, troubled. “He didn’t respond.”

Ali, the Tijuana bombshell, comes to Candy’s to drop a bombshell. She’s adopting a baby, and Patricio is the father, because he wants the chance to hold his own baby in his arms. Pat walks in and Candy says, “Congratulations! You’re going to be a father again. Were you planning to tell me at some point?”
Pat: I’m not going to be a father.
Ali: Pardon me. I didn’t know that he hadn’t told you. I thought you two had good communication.
Pat: I’m not hiding anything. Alicia wants to adopt a baby, and I’m helping her.
Candy: Yeah, I get it.
Pat: Candy, she’s just trying to provoke you. You’re falling into her game.
Alicia provokes them both some more, until Pat throws her out. Candy’s pissed! Mission accomplished. Candy is convinced that Pat wants a third child by a third mother, and she won’t listen to anything he says.

In the salon, Marissa tells Santiago that it’s nice to see him excited for his son and the wedding, and she doesn’t want to complicate things unnecessarily (no estoy buscando tres pies al gato), but she just doesn’t feel like he loves her. I’m wondering what was her first clue. Maybe when he told her, “You've managed to destroy everything I've ever felt for you, even friendship.” Or maybe it was when she gave him the ultimatum, “You get me and the baby, or neither of us.” Regardless, she tells him she needs to feel like he loves her. Santi tells her, “We need to regain our trust, but I’m giving it my all.” 3M leaves in a huff. Santi tries to convince Donato and himself that, with a lot of work and patience, it will all work out.

Time to take inventory. Santiago is frustrated with Marissa, and Candy is frustrated with Pat. What is a man’s second-favorite way to get rid of frustration? Exercise!

Isabel and Jaime are reading in bed when they hear strains of Jailhouse Rock. On their way downstairs to investigate, the girls and Donato join them. In the salon they see Santiago and Tina cutting a rug. He tells them, “I’m cheering myself up.” Consider the choice of song. The message? Even when you’re imprisoned, you can still dance. Everybody joins the dancing. Santi passes Tina off to Don, and he steps away to call Candy.

Our Santiago sure does know how to romance a woman, doesn’t he? They danced under the stars, the wind spoke her name, and he serenaded her with a song he wrote just for her. Even eating popcorn with him is romantic! And tonight, tan romantico! Candy is sitting in bed writing her column when Santi calls.
S: Hi, Friend. I’m calling you, friend to friend. Come dance with me! (Unlike Pat, Santi knows how to clear the wall.) To Rocío: Súbale! Turn it up!
C: No, I’m at home for the night.
S: Agh! Up on your feet.
C: No! Imagine this (be careful what you ask for). I’m in my pajamas, lying in bed.
S: Don’t tell my you’re lying down, because you don’t know how to lie (but not for want of practice). Up on your feet! (She stands up.) Raise your hand. (She reaches her arm out.) A little more. (She raises it to shoulder level.)
In her imagination (and our TV screens), Santiago takes her hand and puts a hand on her belly but she bats it away. They start into an exuberant Twist that is finished all too soon. Why, oh why do we never get to see Jaime Camil dance more than just a few bars? Yañez fans got their swimming scenes, Colunga fans get their (our) horseback scenes, why don’t we get our dance scenes? Alas, maybe next year.

She tells him, “Thank you. Thank you very much.” She needed that frustration-relief too. He reminds her, “I’m here for you, always, whatever I can do for you, everywhere, in every way.” She says, “Goodnight, Dr. Plastico,” and then she corrects, in an emotion-filled voice, “Buenas noches, Santiago.” Well that just sends him to the moon! “Me dijo Santiago!!!” He breaks into his signature hoppy-dance for shear joy.

At breakfast the next morning, Meño gets the debriefing about the phone dancing and Alicia’s adoption plans. Meño gives his unrestrained opinion, and of course Pat is standing right behind him to hear it all.

Gregoria is in bed with a fever. Candy brings her some tea and takes care of her the way mama used to take care of Candy. Gregoria talks about the pain of the empty nest, and how hard it was to see the chairs at the kitchen table go empty one by one, starting with Veronica and ending with Clemente. Candy regrets the pain her fake death caused her mother. Gregoria respects that Candy wouldn’t tolerate a cheating husband like Gregoria did.

Santiago’s good mood is still firmly in place when he greets his family at the breakfast table. He tells them they look like a telenovela family where everyone is guapo. Marissa arrives and the good mood departs. She hounds Luc out of her chair, she’s pushy to Roc, and she’s condescending to Isabel and Jaime. Santi tells her, “So nice that you’re in a better mood today,” and he disguises all the sarcasm in his voice. She demands understanding because she’s the pregnant lady.

Santiago follows Isabel into the kitchen, cleaning up the breakfast dishes, because both would rather wash dishes than stay in the same room as Marissa. Santi wonders how he will have the patience to continue this. Isabel says that if he decides to go through with the wedding, he has her support. He says, “Mama, you’re my idol, I want to be just like you.”

At work, Chayo badgers Barb to find out what Ed told her. Is he still seeing other women? Of course Barb would never violate doctor-patient secrecy, at least not today. What has Chayo really upset is that she’s afraid she can’t have children.

Alicia challenges Marissa, since she hasn’t told her anything about travel plans. Mar says Ali has to trust her more. “We’ll cover each other’s back,” she says, “just like the Brad Peeet movies.” As I see their silhouette standing back-to-back, all I can think of is a lollipop. Mar gives Ali her ticket, and Ali notices that the flight is the same day as the wedding. Mar gives an innocent look and says, “Reeeally?”

Hortensia tells Santiago about her date with Carlo, and she is full of surprises.
H: He was a perfect gentleman.
S: Are we talking about the same Carlo? The taxi driver?
H: Isn’t he a banker?
S: Um, yes, in his free time.
They end up in a shouting match about who is younger, Carlo or Hortensia, when Candy walks in. Santi points out that she hasn’t come to visit since “El Innombrable” moved in. Hortensia asks if he means the ex-president. Santi says, no, El Piojoso (the lousy one, referring to Pat). I asked Jarocha for help about Innombrable. The word means “unmentionable,” and often refers to underwear, but it also refers to Carlos Salinas de Gortari, president of Mexico from 1988 to 1994. The folks in Frostbite Falls would certainly declare him a Dirty Rotten Shnook. I posted Jarocha’s answer at this link. Thank you, Jarocha! You’re a gem!

Candy tells Santi that Isabel said he’s not doing well. Since he helped her with her bad mood yesterday, she wants to return the favor.

In summary, Marissa is infuriating to Santiago, but I think this marriage plan is his best move. Why? ¿Because he should marry Marissa? De ninguna manera! No way! Instead, as a means to reach Candy. Remember he once said, “When I get close she runs away. When I pull away she comes close.”
• On Monday, Candy let Pat move in, and Santiago thought all hope was gone. (Logical conclusion.)
• On Wednesday, Santi told her he would marry Marissa. That marked the beginning of a change in Candy’s attitude toward Patricio.
• In the same conversation, she told Santi, “Maybe I’m making a mistake giving Pat a chance.” That was the first time she voiced misgivings about going back to Pat.
• In the next episode, she resisted Pat’s kiss and told Santi that Pat sleeps on the couch.
• In the same episode, her memory montage of Pat was interrupted by El Tiburon.
• And in the next episode (Friday), she told Pat, “I like you but I don’t know if I love you.”
• Tonight, she was irritated with Pat through most of the episode and she had a spat with him about the adoption. On the other hand, she was enthralled by Santiago’s phone dancing, she went back to calling him “Santiago,” and she came to his office to find a way to make him happy.

I’m telling you, if Santiago can just stay engaged to Marissa long enough, Candy just might end up in his arms. I think her motto will be, “If you can’t be with the one you love, dump the one you’re with.”

Tomorrow: Marissa says she won’t show up at the wedding.
