Caray, Caray!

We left our two machos, Carlos and Lazaro, packing heat and pointing their pistols at Augustin. Boom! A gun goes off and it turns out a vibora is at the receiving end. (Note to Carlos, snakes in the vineyard are actually a good thing, helps keep the rodent population down, it’s called Sustainable Practices, just sayin’. Let’s assume it’s a rattlesnake or some such poisonous type and move on...) Caras impactadas all around and Augie’s not happy because he got his handsome self all scared at the big noise.

Carlos, waving the gun around just so Augie knows, says he’d just as soon shoot Augie for invading the vineyard as he did the snake. Lots of chest puffing, especially Alfonsina even though she’s not trying. Augie keeps calling the place HIS vineyard and finally tells Carlos that for his stupidity he’d better watch out because Augie plans to repay the debt. This has got to be weird for Alfonsina and Ezequiel who are married and on opposing teams. They shoot each other The Look before Alfonsina tosses her head. You go girl.

Jero brings Renata breakfast on a tray, or maybe it’s her re-warmed dinner that she never ate, but it looks like the little bird has flown the coop. There is a note. He calls but gets her voice mail and leaves a message that he thought they were going to confront her family together and explain. Call him OK? Actually, I think it’s pretty cool that he made her dinner and breakfast. I’m liking him a little more. For now.

Over at Monterrubio Manor Renata tries to sneak upstairs but she’s met by the inquisition led by Gonzo who attacks first saying he never thought he could be so disillusioned by her. He’s backed up by a glaring Matias and Fina and a smug Roberta.

Renata’s first mistake, she meekly apologizes instead of saying “hey I’m a grownup and didn’t do anything wrong, when y’all cool off I’ll explain it.” But no, and she adds that this thing with Jero was a complete surprise to her too. Fina interrupts her apology saying “oh, you lie so easily when you knew all along that Jero was one of Matias’s best buds and your sister’s beau!”

Renata’s second mistake, she explains she really didn’t know because she actually met Jero at the airport the day he arrived. What?!? The inquisition jumps all over this one. Why did she pretend she just met him at the party? Why didn’t she say anything to Matias instead of acting like he was a big stupid? Lots of accusing and defending with Gonzo’s face frozen in a look of...shock I guess. Renata keeps begging forgiveness but this doesn’t quite work out for her. Basically it’s a disaster.

Matias says he stands by what he said last night, he’ll never forgive her, and he rues the day he came back to Mexico and fell in love with her. Renata glares at Roberta who is grinning happily, not even trying to hide her smile.

Now Fina jumps in hissing that this is a great way to repay the man that has given her such love and devotion, by wounding his son. She says the best thing for Renata to do right now is to leave the family and this house. Gonzo just stares stupidly. Let’s move on.

Jero is sitting on the bed twiddling his thumbs when Carlos calls and can tell something’s wrong. Jero says it’s not one of his best days because the Monterrubios discovered his relationship with Renata. “So it’s a relationship?” asks Carlos, “what about Matias?” Jero confirms he’s in love with Renata but why did Carlos call? Carlos tells Jero he “had a very strong discussion” with Augustin that morning and Augie thinks the vineyard is his. Carlos suggests Jero come to La Bonita right away. Jero says La Bonita is the least of his concerns, Carlos should handle it how he wants and do what he can to rush the sale. I’m thinking Carlos looks pretty hot in his cute leather hat and apricot polo shirt. I’ll bet Matilde thinks so too, because when he tells her that Jero’s not returning and he’s in charge, she laughs that Don Augie will certainly think twice before trying to set foot on La Bonita again. They stare adoringly at one another. I am so on board with this relationship.

Ugh, back at Hate House Renata cries that they don’t need to ask, she was going to leave on her own. Here’s a shocker, Gonzo says he does NOT agree with mom and that leaving is not a solution. Dude, finally, yay. But Fina’s on a tear, calling Renata reprehensible and shameful. Renata tells dad that with such intense reactions leaving is the best thing to do. Rob pipes up that Renata and Matias shouldn’t live in the same house but everyone pretty much ignores her. (Is it just me or does it look like she’s flipping Renata off?)

Now Gonzo is crying, the waterworks are flowing, and Renata swears she didn’t intend to hurt him, she’s very sorry, but she should leave. Fina says absolutely nothing can excuse what Renata did to her sister and brother, making them find her in that Jero’s arms. (Yikes, overreact much?) Then she gets even nastier, saying Renata always tries to come across as sweet little Miss Perfect well they don’t believe it! Renata finally sticks up for herself, says sure maybe she made a mistake falling for the guy but she’s certainly not the bad person that mom makes her out to be. She tells dad she truly adores him and she’s sorry. Again. She runs upstairs and Fina stops Gonzo from following by getting all fake apologetic. She scowls out the side of her face and Roberta enjoys the show.

Montage of Matias using his grief as an excuse to show off his horsemanship skills. Dude definitely looks good in the saddle. Rewind.

Back at the vineyards Augustin gripes to Ezequiel about being humiliated at La Bonita, he’s not going to stand for it. Then he gets on Ezequiel’s case about Alfonsina not obeying his orders. Ez says she’s just used to getting orders from her own boss but he’ll talk to her about it. Augustin thinks maybe he can bribe the notary to speed up the sale, but in the meantime maybe if Carlos has an accident that’ll get rid of the little macho twerp. Ez perks up and asks does Augie want him to take care of it? Darn, here I was thinking that Ez might be a good guy but now I’m thinking maybe not.

Gonzo finds Matias down at the stables and wants to talk. Matias says he’s hurting and feels like everything he thought was real turned out to be a lie. Gonzo tells him that Fina gave Renata the boot but he doesn’t think that’s the solution. Matias says he agrees, HE should be the one who leaves. No, Gonzo doesn’t like that idea either. Matias can’t stop thinking about Renata in Jero’s arms, why why why did she have to be with his friend? Lots of mutual crying and Gonzo gives him a big, clingy man hug.

Fina calls her licenciado pal and tells him now that Gonzo is back in town she wants him to step up the spying on Regina. Fina wants to know her every move.

Renata’s packing; she listens to a voice mail from Adriana who wants to hear all about Jero and l’amourrrrrr, etc. Oh crap, here comes Roberta who snipes, “Awwwww, the little princess is crying.” This is another ugly scene so I’ll keep it short. Roberta follows Renata around shrieking like a harpy that Renata stole her man, they lied, etc. Renata says Jero told her there was nothing serious between him and Roberta. (Oooh, bet Rob hates that!) Yep, Roberta tries a new tack. She claims Jero tried to take advantage of her but she wouldn’t allow it, so now he’s going after Renata to spite Roberta. Well it serves her right and she hopes it was worth it because she lost everything including dad’s unconditional love. She hopes Renata putrefies in the hell she created, damn her!

Roberta’s abortion doctor calls Fina to ask why she and Roberta missed their appointment. Oops, Fina tells him they had a little setback (contratiempo) and they’ll have to reschedule. The doc reminds her there is a twelve week limit to do the procedure. Fina tells him money’s no object, they’ll think about it and give him a call. Her cogs and sprockets start turning.

Split screen of sad Renata (left) and Adri (right) writing a note to her mom that she’s off to work. Wow, all this happened before work? Do these people sleep? They have dates at 9:00 p.m. and get up at dawn. Anyway, Renata asks if she can stay at Adri’s place for a few days.

Jero calls Renata and wants to come right over to her house to face the family. She growls bad idea and she wants to clear up a few things with him, ahem.

Gonzo and Matias arrive at work. Gonzo is worried that this thing with Renata will affect the vice presidency but Matias assures dad work will be as usual and he won’t let his personal anguish affect his work.

Renata sadly surveys the downstairs while waiting for Fina to come in and insult her anew. Yes, here comes mom and she hopes Renata’s not planning to shack up with That Guy. No, she’ll be at Adriana’s until she finds her own place. Fina gleefully comments that finally Renata has driven the last nail into the coffin that holds her reputation. Renata tells her she knows why Fina doesn’t like her, because she reminds her of dad who betrayed her. More nastiness from Mommy Dearest who concludes her tirade saying that from now on she disowns Renata as her daughter. Renata sadly says that might be so, but for her Fina will always be her mama. This shuts Fina up and for a moment she even looks touched, but no, here comes the evil music and Fins gets a determined look on her face. Bad mommy.

Honorio comes into Gonzo’s office with something important to say. (Hurry up and say it!!) But wait, what’s up with Gonzo? Did the convention go badly? Gonzo says no, it has to do with Renata. Honorio asks, “Oh, you already know? Who told you?” Gonzo tells him Fina. Gonzo does a quick data dump on Renata and Jero vs Roberta and Matias. Honoria says that’s not what he came to tell Gonzo about but this Renata thing sounds absolutely ridiculous to him. Honorio, tell him now!!!

Renata meets with Jero in the middle of the street and demands to know if what he’s doing with her he already did with her sister? Why didn’t he tell her that Roberta was also in his apartment? Well, he says, she was in my apartment, we were on the verge of something, but nothing happened. She tells him she lost everything for their love and he’d better not plan on betraying her. “What do you mean by ‘lost everything’?” he asks. She fills him in on how she shamed the family (oh brother) and mom kicked her out. He wants to go right now and explain to the family, no doubt assuming they are normal. Boy is he ever wrong. He suggests Renata move in with him. She smiles and thanks him but she’s moving in with a friend and wants to do things her way. He sweetly tells her maybe they lost everything but as long as they don’t lose each other they’ll be OK. Awwwww. They kiss and make up, but I’m thinking they need to have a long one-to-one pronto because there is a lot of very important concealed information in this relationship.

Another montage of Matias wallowing in grief. He tells an unfortunate pencil if he ever sees Jero he’s going to break his face, crack! Poor pencil.

Renata is at Adri’s giving her the 411. Adri asks was Jero worth it? Renata responds it’s never worth hurting the ones you love but what she feels is what she feels. At least she loves Jero and he loves her.

Jero is also filling in his confidant Regina. He loves Renata in spite of himself. Regina agrees that love is a great diversion (also contratiempo). Jero’s worried about Matias and his vow to Rafa. Regina advises him that a lot of men suffer betrayal without taking their own lives. It was Rafa’s decision, not hers (meaning La Bonita). He says he has a deep love for Renata but when he thinks of his brother then his hatred for her comes surging back. Yikes.

Roberta finds Fina cleaning out Renata’s room. Rob asks and what if dad and bro forgive her and she comes back? Ain’t gonna happen, says mom, trust me. Roberta starts griping about her surgery, she sure wants to get this brat out of her. That ain’t gonna happen either because mom says she cancelled the appointment forever, this baby is going to be grandpa Gonzo’s happy gift. But Gonzo’s not the grandfather, insists Roberta. Oh yes he will be, promises Fina, “because the father of this baby is going to be Matias Monterrubio!”

We’re now at the Regina Center where Regina wonders about Constanza’s long face. Coni says it’s her brother, he’s married to a cold, egotistical witch who delights in making her daughters hate each other. Roberta absolutely hates Renata and did something terrible to her. Suddenly we hear laughter in the courtyard, it’s Antonio arriving with goodies for the kids. Coni says Regina won the lottery with that guy. His smile and good attitude are incredible considering the family tragedy he’s suffered. Que? What tragedy? This is news to Regina.

Fina has decided that this child will cement their relationship within the Monterrubio family. Rob’s incredulous, how are they going to pull this one off assuming she’d agree to it, no gracias. Fina tells her it’s time Rob pulled her weight just a little in achieving all they’ve dreamed of.

Now that Renata has lost the throne of the Monterrubio men’s love who better to take that place than Roberta? Roberta’s her mom’s daughter, she figures this kills two birds with one stone, they’ll be firmly in the family and Gonzo will lose interest in Regina. Yep, mom agrees, Grandpa Gonzo will have eyes only for Roberta, the baby and Fina. (Not sure how that last part fits in but OK.) Roberta says Mat’s not stupid, she’s 2 months pregnant. Fina laughs, he’s a man and there’s such a thing as a premature baby. Roberta should console Matias and seduce him to get back at Renata and become the boss lady of the Monterrubio fortune. Think about it, he’s handsome, a millionaire, and opportunities like this don’t come along very often.

Renata and Adri arrive at work and Renata is stressing about causing weird trips between her and Matias. Just then Matias walks out telling Daniel that the meeting that Renata confirmed just last night is now cancelled. Oooh, he’s already overriding her decisions.

Renata hides out in her office and begins writing some sort of memo or letter. Meanwhile Adri is ripping Matias a new one for the way he’s treating Renata. She reminds him that he approached her (Adri) to help win Renata’s love because he already knew she (Renata) didn’t love him. He whines about Renata being with his friend. Adri jumps up and says “excuuuse me, but Renata fell in love with Jero before she knew he was your friend and Roberta’s galan.” She says sure, Renata made a mistake in not telling Matias how she felt about Jero but Mat’s reaction is way too harsh. Finally, a voice of reason!

Renata contritely approaches Gonzo, he knows she loves him correct? Oh sure him too, but then he gets another dig in about how disappointed he is in her, puhleeze. Well guess what, she’s got a solution for that and she hands him her resignation. Now he’s taken aback, yes the situation is serious and delicate but her abilities at work are not in question, she’s key here. She explains since Gonzo has lost confidence in her, and considering how hard it will be for Matias, it’s better if she leaves. He does not accept her resignation. Sorry papito, she says, it’s her decision and she’s made it. She’ll find something somewhere else and he’s not to worry. She tells him she adores him and he’ll always be her father. We are left with Gonzo’s oddly unemotional supposed-to-be-stricken stare as his daughter departs.


Tomorrow: Oh goodie, it looks like Honorio tattles because everyone is gathered and Honorio drags Diego in. Then Diego claims Roberta hates Renata and always has! Renata and Matias come face to face over Renata’s love.

Hey everyone! I'm sorry I slept way late today... I am putting this up so you can start to discuss while I put together this recap asap!

My absolute favorite scene last night was when Teresa and Fernando shared a dance at the wedding.

Let's begin. Aida directs Mariano to Teresa who is thankfully outside. He brings up their love making the night before the wedding and she begs him not to tell Arturo. She sings her usual song, el amor no es sufficiente. He agrees not to tell, and basically yells at her, (which she deserves) and says, "Despues de lo que hiciste no quiero que te a cercas de mi nunca mas. Me das asco, Teresa." (After what you did, I don’t want you near me anymore. You disgust me, Teresa.) He leaves and she tries not to cry. She made her decision and she will succeed.

Esperanza and Hernan the Galan walk into the wedding. He doesn’t want her to run into Rubigote so he tells her to wait in the women’s restroom. At first she says no, but he insists so she does.

Aida tries to make Mariano feel better. He wants to be alone. She won’t leave him alone. Hernan walks up and calls to Mariano.

Teresa is swallowing her tears, (or dominating her emotions,) and walks back into the party. She finds her parents and displays more classless behavior, hoping they won’t embarrass her anymore. Aurora and Martin sit down and her dad says, don’t worry; they won’t make her ashamed anymore. He lets is slip that Martin was involved in giving them etiquette lessons. Teresa is not happy. Her mother asks if it is bad etiquette to mention things like that and Aurora says no, toasts to the parents of the bride, and she and Martin hurry away. Teresa is crying now. She is pissed that they took lessons from the employee of her worst enemy, the ex novia of Arturo. Thanks to their stupidity, they have given the ex gf of Arturo more reasons to mock her.

Ruben with Mayra and Genoveva. Mayra runs off and that leaves the two sleaze balls to slime all over one another. Until Esperanza shows up. Ruben flips and manhandles her into the women’s bathroom. He thinks she is there to bother him, she assures him she is not. She reproaches him for having an affair with his wife’s best friend. He is angry and shaking her rather violently.

Juana is talking to Hector at the table, Aurora and Martin are there. Mariano’s crashing the wedding is the topic of discussion. Juana calls Mariano muy atrabancado (really rash, reckless.) Hector looks pointedly at Aurora and continues the discussion.

Hernan is talking to Mariano, asking what he is doing there. Mariano tells him to stay out of it. Hernan says no, he is there to get Mar to leave. Mariano says not to worry, he’s already done what he came there to do. Aida pulls him along, trying to get him to leave. Arturo shows up, “Otra vez tu?!” Arturo threatens legal action if he doesn’t stay away from her. Arturo is ready to throw down but Aida breaks it up and she and Hernan walk Mariano away.

Meanwhile, Espreanza is getting throttled in the bathroom by the angry mustache. Ruben is ready to hit Espe and thankfully Gen holds back his hand. Gen? Well, okay. I thought she might enjoy seeing that. Good for her, stopping him. Espe says she was not her for him; she wants nothing to do with Ruben. She came to talk to Teresa. He is still physically shaking her. Then she goes off on Gen pretending to be Mayra’s friend. Que descaro! (What nerve! I like that expression.) Espe pushes them both out of the way and flees the room. Oooh, she’s quick like a bunny.

Arturo tells Tere the news that Mariano was there. He is explaining what happened and she keeps asking what he said. Then Arturo mentions that Aida was there to take him away and this catches her attention. Aida? Then she says, she doesn’t care what Mariano does. She only loves Arturo. A ti. And she is married to him, and for that she is very happy. Mi amor, she kisses him, but he is still so angry. He hugs her, looks and sees Espe. “Esperanza esta aqui,” he says. We see her running into the room, Gen then Rubes following behind. Dude, be more obvious guys. Oh I am sure Gen is loving this. She stops her right in the room, screaming things so that obviously everyone will now know she was his amante. And up walks Mayra. Meanwhile, everyone watches on, including Tere, who says it is the best wedding present ever. Mayra recognizes her from the hospital. She asks how long, Espe asks forgiveness. Mayra yells at her, showing her insecurity by choosing the word joven: you think because you are so young you can destroy a marriage? “Como te atreves a venire aqui. Eres una descarada?” (How dare you come here? Are you shameless?) Mayra wants to know how long. She begs her to answer and when she doesn’t she slaps her. AH! Stop hurting Esperanza!!!! Also, more people in the background with professional cameras snapping photos, lol. Mayra and Gen leave. Arturo calmly asks Esperanza to leave. She apologizes and says she only wanted to talk to Teresa for a moment. It’s not the moment or the place, says Tere. Leave please, and she will look for her later. Espe tries to apologize but Tere tells her to leave. Hernan appears to take her away. (Where were you when she was being assaulted in the bathroom!) Tere takes a moment to say, poor me my wedding is a disaster, after all the planning I put into it!

Teresa also takes the moment to say, see! I didn’t send the divorce papers. Arturo and Ruben apologize to her. She points the blame at Aida.

Gen and Mayra are at the Bigote house, yelling about the scandal.

Esperanza and Hernan are at an outdoor table of a restaurant talking about what just happened. Esperanza feels so bad about it. She isn’t eating. He assures her that it is a good thing they went because Mariano was there. She talks about how she used to imagine that happening, telling his wife, but that was before she knew she was being as deceived as she was.

Back to the fiesta! Ref and Arm are dancing and, woah! Smiling! Hector and Juana talk at the table. Aurora and Martin show up. Martin asks if they will dance. At the same time, he says no way! And she says, she’d love to (or something like that.) Martin asks Juana to dance. This leaves Hector to talk to his hija. He is glad she is with Martin. He says that Martin has been real good to her, whereas Mariano has only made her sad.

Mariano and Aida show up at the clinic. They send Magda on her way. Aida is basically trying to egg him on.
There is a scene that cuts up my favorite scene of Espe and Hernan. She says she will always be alone with her baby. He says no she won’t. She’s young, good, can’t she see he looooooves her?

Now to my favorite scene of the night! Arturo and Luisa are dancing. (Watching people dance in scenes like this ALWAYS makes me laugh.) Teresa and Fernando are also dancing with each other. The song ends and, of course, we segue into a slow song. (Fernando looks so different without his facial hair!) Slow song starts and people are coupling up. Including Arturo and Luisa. (Is it weird to dance with your brother? Never had a brother… but if I did with my cousin, it would be weird.) Fernando holds out his hand for Teresa and she takes it demurely. They get up close and the camera zooms in on his hand, first touching her waist, then up to the bare skin shown off by the halter top. They are intensely looking at one another.
T: Pasa algo Fernando? (Is something wrong, Fernando?)
F: No.
T: Entonces, porque me miras asi? (Then why are you looking at me that way?)
F: De que hablas? Como... como te estoy mirando? (what are you talking about? How… how am I looking at you?)
T: No se. Me siento rara. Siento... tu miradas eso a mi. En que piensas Fernando? (I don’t know. I feel strange. When you look at me that way. [I think I missed some words here!])
F: Ya te lo dicho. Mi amigo es muy afortunado tener como esposa.... checks her out... un mujer como tu. De verdad, eres extraordinaria. (I already told you, my friend is very lucky to have for a wife…a woman like you. Really, you are extraordinary.)

Luisa and Arturo. Luisa is happy that he is starting his life with Teresa. He is going to be very happy with her. Luisa feels the same way with Fernando.

T: Porque me siento que te quieres decir algo mas, Fernando? (Why do I feel like you want to say something else, Fernando?)
F: Despiertas muchas passiones, Teresa. [Smiles.] Me quedo claro a ver el tipo ese que se aparecio en la iglesia. (You awake a lot of passion, Teresa. It was clear to me when that guy appeared in the church.)
T: Mariano era un vecino que es siempre esta enamorado de mi. Pero no entiendo porque hice todo esto. Porque se puse hacer? (Mariano is a neighbor who was always in love with me. But I don’t understand why he did all this. Why did he do it? [Again I think I misheard some words..])
F: Porque es un mujer tan bella que puedes volver loco a cualquiera…. Si no me creas, mira nada mas como tienes Arturo. (Because you are a woman so beautiful you could drive anyone crazy…. If you don’t believe me, look at how you’ve got Arturo.) [She looks at Arturo and everyone smiles, then more intense looks between Fernando and Teresa. Fast song comes on and they lighten up briefly, dancing apart, then she puts her arms on his shoulders and they dance happily together.]

Back to Espe and Hernan. She says she will never love anyone. He says she is so young. Plus, she’ll have a baby. She can’t just date people. Her child will be the love of her life. Don’t worry, Ledesma. You’ll get her in the end. I HOPE!
Back to Genoveva and Mayra. Crying. Complaining. Gen is pretending to be a friend. Mayra says some things about the person you most trust betraying you. She can count on Gen, though. She knows she would never betray her. HAH.

Aida has Mariano’s clothes on so she doesn’t ruin her dress. They are planning to paint.

Back to the wedding. Refugio tells Teresa that they are leaving. She has nothing to celebrate. Hah apparently she hasn’t even checked with Armando on this. Typical. Arm gets her to actually continue dancing. Juana shows up and asks about the scandal with some woman, she was in the bagno. (Maybe her and Cutb are good together. Both gossip. But I love Hector!) Tere tells Juana what went down.
Throwing the bouquet. Juana catches it.

Cutberto and Pati’s maid. She asks him to sing a song for her, the one about the green eyes. Of courseeeeee. He doesn’t want to sing it.

Juana sits down with the bouquet and Martin says something about another wedding soon. Hector gulps. Aurora takes him to escape to the dance floor again.

Refugio and Armando are dancing and talking.

Juana and Teresa talk about the bouquet. Tere says this she will marry Hector soon! I think I like the flowers in Tere’s hair; I like the way her hair is done. Juana tries to bring up Cutb but they are interrupted by Arturo who waves Tere over to him. In come the Mariachis. We all know where this is going. It’s Cutb. Singing about green eyes.

Gen and Mayra. Ruben shows up. Gen leaves. Mayra and Ruben fight. The important part of this conversation is that Ruben blames Teresa. Mayra makes a good point, saying, oh clearly, Teresa must have forced him to have an affair. But then he tells her that Esperanza and Teresa are neighbors. Naturally this means that it WAS all Teresa’s fault. (Except this wasn’t. It was the Rubigote!) Mayra actually buys this.

Aida and Mariano preparing to paint. She tries to kiss him. He doesn’t. She prods about Teresa and then tries to say they’ll forget her. He listens, then asks for forgiveness.

Aurora and Teresa. Aurora has to leave for work. But first Aurora presses Tere about her feelings for Mariano. Teresa evades and says that’s what Aurora is doing with Martin. Aur says, no, Martin knows everything. That Aurora loves Mariano.

Juana and Cutberto talk. The usual. He insults Hector. She threatens him with a spoon and says he touches her and she kills him!

Mayra is distraught. She tells Aida the news that she met the amante. And that Teresa and Esperanza are best friends. For a second I thought that Aida might think it was Aurora! Tere has a lot of ‘best friends.’ Aurora, Esperanza, Luisa, and possibly you could count Juana, too.

Ref and Arm at home in PJs. Usual there, too. Arm is happy, Ref is not, tells Arm he is wrong, and Teresa is NOT happy. She can buy all the luxuries she has always wanted but she doesn’t love him. Espe is telling Johnny what happened. He leaves and in blows Aida. She is pissed and she hits Espe, too. Stop hitting her, people!!! She calls her a slut. Espe begs forgiveness and Aida keeps hitting her. She gets that from papa! Espe runs into the Chavez home and Aida follows. She calls her a whore and yells at all of them in the house. She tells Esperanza that she was just a cat that her dad liked to play with. Aida insults Tere (who is not even there) and her parents object. She calls them all igualitas and says they are all going to pay! She leaves.

Ay, Paloma. And she is crying. Sorry, but I can’t care about her either. Stop crying! You’re pathetic! Okay, that was a little harsh. But I don’t care! Martin tells her that Mariano tried to break up the wedding. Paloma remembers seeing them kiss in the park way back when (she believed that Tere was Arturo’s wife with child.)

Cancun! Ooh, sexy wedding night music. He carries her over the threshold. She admires the room, filled with candles and roses. He says, “Ya eres mi esposa, y por fin, vas a ser mi mujer.” Her face falls but she tries not to show it. Come on, Tere, you knew this was coming! I swear by sleeping with Mariano the other night she made it way worse for herself. Anyhoooo, that is where we end for today!

Tomorrow, Clinking glasses, neck kissing, crying (naked?) in the dark, missing Mariano, Hottie Prof without a shirt!! Mariano apologizes to Aida, Mariano shirtless, too!! Aida and Gen scheming. A new plan starts tomorrow.

MARTA'S RECAP
(I am posting this for her)

We see Renata arrive at Hero's apartment building...
Hero is swinging his wine glass... a bit nervous... smelling the wine, then he toasts for his brother, and for his 'Bonita', Renata Monterrubio... he has a sip then puts a face of few friends... (bracing himself for what he is about to do)

Roberta arrives, followed by Matias... Both enter the building..
The elevator opens at Hero's floor, Renata is very clearly nervous/anxious... (we get the Enrique song in background.. the ooooh ooohh part then the beginning..) she rings the bell... he takes a deep breath... then opens the door...
they stare at each other... then he caresses her face and they lock lips for a pretty passionate kiss.. (the theme song with the bongo loud...)... they are still at the door, which is still wide open ...elevator opens again... it is Roberta and Matias..

Ren: Matias!... weren't you in Monterrey?
Mat: (breathing hard, about to have a asthma attack) Yeah... thinking about you all day... poor imbecile... while you and Hero were always here together!
Rob: You are a wh___!!
Ren: You shut up!!
Rob: You don't shut me up!! You were kissing the man I was dating!! You are a slu__!!
Mat: Thanks to Roberta I stopped being the stupid one you both were playing for a fool!
Ren: No, Matias, no!
Mat: (to Hero) You are a traitor!! (charges toward Hero but Renata is right in his way and she stops him)
Ren: No, Matias, please! let me explain! (meanwhile Hero is also breathing hard, but he seems to be restraining himself from responding to Matias the same way)
Mat: You knew I loved Renata!... You listened to my feelings! Meanwhile you were lovers!
Ren: We are not lovers, Matias, things are not like that..
Rob: Don't be cynical!! Both of you are trash!! (Renata is in disbelief looking at Rob while Hero closes his eyes, he knows this is really impacting them)
Jero: Matias, we have to talk...
Mat: I don't want to hear from you again in my life!! .. you even asked me if she was leaving me for someone else.. what am imbecile I must have looked like while .. that someone was YOU, Jeronimo!!
Ren: Matias!..
Jero: Listen to me!...
Mat: I have nothing to listen to!! .. this... this I will never forgive you!! ... let's go Roberta!
(Renata goes after Matias, who is taking off fast.. but Roberta charges her...)
Rob: Let him go!! Let him go!! Your little make believe is over!! You are a Ho___!! You are a Ho___!!

(Renata finally manages to get Rob off her and she runs after Matias...)

Rob: I was willing to do anything... Anything for you!.. But as soon as you met Renata I became worthless!! You turned into a lowlife man and a man without scruples!! I don't know how I ever put my eyes on you!! (slaps him hard) STUPID!!
(she runs down the elevator too... yelling at him 'DAMN YOU" from the elevator as it closed)

(Downstairs...)
Ren: Matias!! Please, don't leave like that...
Mat: (shakes himself off her) Don't touch me!!
Ren: Matias! Please! Don't leave like that! I don't want to justify myself... I just want you to listen to me, and I promise I will tell you the whole truth, please you have to..
Rob: (arrives to prevent Renata from explaining anything) They are not lies, Renata!! We saw you in his arms so anything you say doesn't matter! Let's go, Matias! (drags him away, but Renata stops him again)
Ren: No, no! Matias!! Listen to me please! .. Look, I swear to you on my life that I never meant to hurt you... even though this might look like a betrayal it was never evil intended, please let me talk to you!..

(Roberta again drags Matias away, this time he does indeed go with her)
(Once Roberta and Matias leave, Jero arrives to give Renata a comforting hug from behind... she accepts the hug)

Honorio arrives home to tell Connie that it was Roberta who was behind the pictures drop from the heli, and that until he can talk to Gonzo, he can't do anything else... Connie finds it hard to believe that she could do this to Renata, her own blood sister. Honorio responds 'as if you didn't know Roberta', she has always been jealous of Renata... but teaming up with Diego to undermine her name is too much, that sick feeling could even grow to become more destructive....
Connie blames Fina (good for her!), instead of teaching her daughters to love each other, she taught Roberta to envy and hate her sister! They agree that Renata does not deserve this... Connie says have to tell Gonzo personally, this is not a phone conversation matter, or he would come even on a donkey to defend his little girl. ;)
Honorio also tells her that they need to go to Adri/Aggi's house tonight. ... Connie seems to show a little touch jealous... Honorio says dont say that, don't know if Adriana knows they dated. .. Connie is concerned about what will happen to Adri when Aggi is gone.

At Aggi's, Aggi is surprised that Adri put 5 place settings on the table, it is a surprise...

On their drive back home, Matias is crying angry... Roberta spoon feeds even more hatred and anger on him against Renata and Hero.... yada yada... Matias is so angry he is hitting himself on the head and trying to rip it off his neck..
Mat: How I wished I did not love her... How I wish I could hate her for her betrayal!! Aarrrgghhh!!
Rob: She knew I loved Hero and she did not care! Renata is worse than the devil, Matias! ... don't hurt yourself, she is not worth it, Renata is the biggest liar in teh world and now you confirmed it!! Please dont give her the joy of seeing you destroyed!

after commercial brk, back at Hero's apt.. he made her some drink, she is reluctant but he insists she take it...... she is really upset
Ren: We hurt Matt.. We hurt him and He does not deserve it...
Jero: It was never our intention.
Ren: No, but the important thing is the fact, Jero!
Jero: (being very comforting, holding and kissing her hands) How did they find out you were coming?
Ren: I don't know. The only one who knew was Adriana and I am sure she did not say anything.
Jero: Matias was in Monterrey... it was Roberta.
Ren: Yes, surely it was her, because he even said that thanks to Roberta he opened his eyes, no?... They already know... and not only they know, but they saw us kissing!! (she drops on his chest, he wraps his arm around her very comforting)
Ren: Jero, they saw us kissing, what am I going to do?
Jero: You are not alone in this... I too feel bad. Matias is my friend. I care a lot about him, but... whatever happens, we will be together in this...
Ren: (pulls herself off his chest to look at him in the eyes) You and I barely know each other.
Jero: But that kiss.. that kiss we shared... for better or for worse (por fortuna o por desgracia) ... is the beginning of an 'Us'. And we can't help it.
Ren: That's right.
Jero: Despite everything, it is the beginning of 'Us'.. unless you don't want to...
Ren: If I am here is because I can't resist what I feel, Jero. I can't.

(they smile, hold each other, she is upset but he is being as supportive as anyone could.)

At the hacienda, Carlos and Lazaro arrive. Karina was waiting for them, rather for Lazaro.
Kari: Lazaro, don't be so stubborn. Accept to stay here working with Matilde!
Laz: You know that I can't do that even though I love these lands and these vineyards with all my heart. I can't accept having your husband as my boss.
Kari: WHy? He hasn't done anything to you!
Laz: To steal the only woman I love, teh one I would give my life for... does that seem like not much to you?... Excuse me, Senora.
Alvaro arrives to see Agie... he is drawing the label for his new wine... he is drawing Renata's face into it... Augie asks if there are any news.. Alvaro tells Augie, playing it as not that important... that Matilde and Lazaro will stay at the hacienda.
Augie: (not happy) You are saying that those people are staying at the hacienda because YOU decided it?
Alv: Yeah, thats right.
Augie: Alvaro, let me make something clear to you. Here the owner is me. And only I make decisions.
Alv: But this is a minor detail, about the servants.
Augie: Whatever!! Even if you are going to live at La Bonita, the owner is me! and you will go back there and tell them to butt out!!
Alv: But how will I tell them that?
Augie: I don't want anyone who is still loyal to their previous bosses working for me! You taught me that! And if you changed your mind I don't care!
Alv: I promised my wife.
Augie: Then if you want to please your wife, I won't rent La Bonita to you.

Daniel (the guy who works closely with Adriana and Renata) arrives at Aggi's. Aggi thinks for moment he is her surprise but the bell rings again... Connie comes in first, presents herself... when Honorio says 'good evening!' Aggie freezes.

At Jero's apt, Renata remembers she was supposed to go to Adri's with her aunt and uncle... She does not want to go home either, she doesn't want them to find out. Jero suggests they go to her house right now and face the music. Renata wants to give it some time for the tempers to soften... will go to a hotel for the night. Jero says no way, you stay here.
Ren: Jero, you realize what you are asking of me?
Jero: Renata, I want us to face the music together... there is a room for you here in my apt.

At Monterrubio's, Roberta and Matias arrive with anguished faces, so Fina gets startled... Roberta tells Fina her own version of the story... 'we come from unmasking Renata'...

Renata insists she and Jero need to talk... She wants to know when he met Roberta and how far they got... Jero says he also wants to know about her and Matias... She asks again about Roberta... Jero tells her he met Roberta when he came to the house to confirm his attendance to Matias' party. They went out a couple times, they decided not to tell anyone so it would be a surprise at Matias party... they went out a couple times... (Renata is a little tad jealous) .. we went out to eat... I saw you there at the restaurant... Renata says she did see him too, but she did not see Roberta.. she was dining with a client.... Jero say he and Roberta went out a couple time smore, but after he saw her again at Matias party he could not continue dating Roberta.. There was never anything serious or formal between him and Roberta, unlike Matias and Renta.

Aggie says she would never have imagined the surprise... They tell Aggie how they figured out the connection at the hospital, the anonymous flowers were from Honorio... They all sit down... Connie and Honorio tell Aggi they have been married for 15 yrs... Honorio asks her what happened after she left for US... Aggi seems confused (perhaps she lied in the past as far as where she went after they split?) ... Aggie excuses herself for a minute... when Connie and Honorio are alone, Connie says she has a feeling Aggie did not like their surprise or she is really ill... Honorio says they split in very good terms, so she can't be mad at him.
Aggie in her bedroom can cry and release her anguish... she remembers when she was going to tell Honorio she was pregnant but he told her they needed to end the relationship... so she never got to tell him.. Seems there was never deep love, at least from Honorio's side... and this was no secret to Aggie... he was always honest with her, but she insisted. She admits to it... she fakes that she also was thinking of breaking the relationship ... Aggie keeps on crying...

Fina feeds the fire for Matias with the 'I told you so' speech... Renata surely thought she would never be discovered... Fina is eager and anxious to tell Gonzo all about it... Matias wants to go to be alone in his room.. Fina fakes appology for Renata... She should have respected him, the son of the man she owes so much to. Once Matias dissappears up the stairs, Roberta wants Fina to call Gonzo ASAP... Fina is more than willing to comply... She calls Gonzo and just tells him with anguished voice that he has to return to Mex asap.

In his room alone, Matias remembers the scenes they just lived... he is crying hard... how could they betray me like this?

At hacienda, Lazaro tells Carlos why he can't work for Alvaro, and that he has always had a bad vibe for Agustin... Carlos is very understanding... must be a hard situation, even more if you still love her... yup he still loves her like the first time.
It all would be so easy for everyone if Jero stopped with the idea of selling out the hacienda...
They ask Carlos what happened with the 'Bonita' Roberta... Carlos says Jero said all his 'revenge thirst' is in the past now.

Augie is alone contemplating the necklace Renata did not want. He still thinks Renata was talking about him when she said she liked someone, he is very optimistic about Renata's games making her even more attractive to him.

Renata and Jero talk some more... he at a time jokes about her ability to attract men... she momentarily takes offense to that line... She feels so bad about hurting Matias... he and his dad are so important to her... Jero asks her if she loves Matias... Renata says she was enchanged with Matias as a kid, but now she realizes she loves him as a brother or friend. Jero says you should not get into a relationship for gratefulness. So don't feel bad. She agrees. Thats why she broke with him. She just never thought it would hurt the ones she loves so much...
Jero: Would you prefer to renounce to all you feel for the others..?
Renata: Would you? would you renounce to that love, or would you defend it from anything and from anyone?
Jero: (remembers his vow to Rafa's grave)... Renata, maybe that's what I need to do but... either I betray them... or I betray myself. Renata from the first day I saw you... from the first time we kissed.. you stole my heart... I love you, Renata. I love you as I have never loved anyone else.
Ren: I love you too. (kiss)

At Monte, Fina and Rob are still going over what happened.. Rob says if she had a gun with her she would be an only child by now... Fina knows Rob is mad but she is happy about what happened, it is convenient for them. The idea of getting Matias so they would discover Ren together was genius!! Roberta vows she will finish Renata at any cost.

Back to Jero's... he is jacket-less... she is still waiting to hear from him... she knows nothing about him or his family... he says we will have time for talking about all that... even the secrets... they are really having a good time... Renata say they have to be really together to face what is to come and defend their love... I love you Renata (more kisses) She is so eager to experience love with him.

Fina calls Renata's phone... but she turns off her phone and continues the couch play...

At Aggie's they chat about the past memories of Honorio and Aggie's... Both mother and daughter are very beautiful. Honorio agrees Aggie is still very beautiful. Daniel comments that they look different, Adriana might look more like her dad... This gets Aggie sick so Connie and Honorio make a quick exit after Connie says one of these day you can come over to our house to dinner... Honorio keeps praising Adriana, if he ever had a daughter he would dream of one like Adriana or Renata.

Renata is still not home so Roberta is jumping anxious... keeps yelling that if Renata stays with Jero she will kill her. Fina says death would be too easy for someone like her sister. Rob is dying of rage, of jealous, of envy... Fina conforts her with the saying 'whoever laughs last laughs louder'... the important thing is to win in the end...

At Jero's he keeps charming Renata, he will fix something for dinner while she chagnes into apparently some pj's of his. He keeps kissing her and telling her 'I love you... even despite of me... I love you'... She asks why he said that, he remembers Rafa's death but lies to her telling her about their crashy first encounter.

Aggie is telling Adriana that next time she wants to get her and Honorio together, to let her know first... Aggie tells Adriana that she realized they have nothing in common anymore... He is an important man, with an legant wife, unlike her.
Adri does not like her talking like that but Aggie insists to leave that relationship in the past.

At Jero's Renata has fallen asleep by the time he brings dinner, so he tucks her in... (aaawwwwwww so sweeeeeeeettt!!)
Jero: Forgive me, Rafa. I could not help it to fall in love with her too... I thought she would be an evil B___ of a woman, but as I get to know her more, it is more awkward to think of her like that.. The Renata I know is sweet, very human, with good values.. and that one is the one I am going to stay with, brother. Forgive me, Rafa... Forgive me for not avenging your death as I had promised..

Early morning, Lazaro comes and wakes Carlos up urgently... Augie has gone into the vineyards and started the collection and invaded the hacienda as if he was lord of all of it already.

Augie is fighting with Alfonsina... Ezequiel is with Augie... Alfonsina really wants to check with Jeronimo or Carlos before they start. Augie yells that he could care less what Carlos and Jeronimo think... Carlos arrives right at that moment...
Carlos: You don't know how I am sorry you don't care what we say because this is private property! So you go the easy way or I have you removed!
Lazaro: You say a word, don Carlos and I will have him out in the blink of an eye.
Augie: The crops are mine, so I have every right to interfere.
Carlos: When we hand it to you, you can do with it whatever you want. But not yet! These lands are not yet yours.
Augie: They are practically mine!! So don't interfere and let me do things my way!!

Okie Dokie Artichokies. I'll try to make some sense of all this. (Jeez. It feels like it's been forever since I did a recap.) It doesn't really follow the episode. I hope I can be forgiven.

Vic
Well, her cancer is slowly spreading. She needs an operation ASAP. She is confused, afraid and doesn't want to die without finding her hija! Drat her inability to remember what Burnie told her! And drat her soberbia! She won't tell anyone anything, swears Toni to secrecy and even tells Max she's out of danger!

Padilla, Alacrán and Eva
Padilla and Alacrán are in cahoots to get back at Burnie. Eva isn't with them, but she's making plans too! Padilla and Alacrán break in, bonk Burnie in the bean, rob the safe and leave her tied to a chair. Eva sets her free....but Burnie suspects she was in on the robbery.

As is usually the case with thieves, Padilla and Alacrán begin to fight over who gets what. Mistrust ensues. (Methinks it will be their undoing.)

Burnie, PJP and Jer
PJP has gone back to the parroquia. Burnie visits him there and  asks PJP to forgive her. He'll forgive her when she tells Vic who her daughter is. Burnie still manages to wheedle a blessing out of him. Later, (after the robbery) she is railing and screaming and flipping out (and accusing Eva of the crime) when Padre Jer comes in and tells her to Send The Frogs Upstairs. He says all she ever brings PJP is problems and tells her to go away and not come back til she can bring some happy news....but Jer doubts that will ever happen. (PS: awesome line in this scene: "They robbed the mother of a priest!" Really, Burnie?)

PJP, Jer and Alonso
Not real integral to the plot (although who knows with Mejía), but Alonso says tells the holy duo he's going to Chiapas. They discuss his health. Alonso says the nosebleeds are no biggie. He'll come back from Chiapas better than ever. In a later scene, PJP and Jer reminisce about mission trips and rare tropical diseases. They tell each other they will make Alonso visit a doc when he gets back.

Maria and Max (with a dash of Toni)
Maria tells Toni she has a vague memory of a friend of her mother who used to care for her like she was her own child. Toni makes a funny face.

Maria tries to convince Max to forgive his mom...Leonela that is.

They smooch a lot.

Speaking of Leo
She tells Gui that if he doesn't get the theater she's gone.
She fights with Max and says she doesn't want to go back to AA buuuut....she still fights the urge to drink like a fish...especially after Xi has a bottle of booze anonymously delivered to Leo's room.

The Nacos
Take a trip to Guadalajara. I know nothing about fútbol, but apparently they are there for "El Clásico" (Which happens to be Club América contra Chivas.) What.evs. Oh wait, everybody prays while visiting a church. JuanJo thanks God for Nati. Nati thanks God for JuanJo. Cruz prays for Fer. Awwww.

Xi
She swears everyone will pay. She tells Maria she can have Max and wishes them happiness. Xi explains she was sick; please forgive her blah blah blahbitty blah. Lying. beech. (And I don't mean the tree.)

Os, Vic and Dr. Voice
So Vic is keeping the whole cancer thing from well, everyone and has asked Toni not to tell. While visiting Fer in the hospital (I'm getting to that) she has chest pains and Dr. Voice insists they go back to his office (which I thought was at CRIT, but apparently he has a satellite office at Sandoval Memorial Hospital) and talk. Meanwhile, Os is pressuring Toni to tell him what's going on. Toni kind of caves and says Vic told her to be quiet. Os busts into Dr. Voice's office and asks Vic what gives. Vic finally confesses she has cáncer de mama. (This is where we really get William in a kayak, but I want to end the recap with the good stuff.)

The reason we all stick with this train wreck: Fer and Cruz
Fer has decided that she will have the operation. Of course everyone worries. They all hope she will walk again. Cruz even bought her some cute shoes in Guadalajara in the hopes she will use them. (My goodness these two are darling together!) Fab finally admits defeat.

Eventually the operation takes place. Hours go by. When it's all over, Dr. Voice is not sure if it worked. Some of the nerves just didn't respond. Mere hours after the delicate spine surgery, Fer is manhandled by Os and Max and they get her out of the bed to have her stand. They have to test to see if the operation worked, you know.

Sadly it did not.

But guess what.

Cruz officially proposes...right there in the hospital. And Fer says YES! And even better, she is genuinely happy. You can tell that she's not that devastated about the failed operation. Cruz gives her the engagement ring and a red rose. (I am NOT doing this justice.) They decide to get married as soon as she's out of the hospital.

ETA:
Maria visits Fer in the hospital and they share a moment. Fer apologizes for how crappy she was at the beginning. They hug. Os sees and makes a thought bubble comment about them being sisters and all of Viewerville wonders why the hell he doesn't just tell Vic.

Dr. Heri’s message for Victoria:
Get off the self-pity pot! No wonder your daughter is afraid to take a risk on life! (No one but Heri could say this and not get VicSlapped!) The two old telenovela veterans part with a knowing wink to their fans: I have the feeling we’ve met before…

Heri’s backstory is filled in:
His wife died of breast cancer. It might have been treatable if she had told him about her illness early enough.
Just after burying his wife, he lost his two young children in a car crash caused by a drunken driver.

You gotta love your parallels:
Victoria is going to let Osvaldo come to the doctor with her on Monday. But she has a private appointment scheduled today – she wants to be prepared for what lies ahead.

The doctor has troubling news for her. The cancer is beginning to spread, although slowly. Her disease is treatable but time is of the essence. She needs surgery – yesterday.

Nati, who is the last person on earth to be giving relationship advice, convinces MD to go to Get a Life Alonso (just when he is in danger of digesting the truth about MD’s feelings and doing so) and thank him. MD finds him in his apartment cum studio just after he has recovered from another mysterious fainting spell. Her appearance once again raises false hopes on his part. He has another nosebleed but refuses to see a doctor.

Padre JP would be honored to marry M & M but he persuades them to wait long enough to invite family and friends.

M & M spend the whole night canoodling in the vecindad. At least the writers remembered they had moved PJP there and just when we are wondering where the happy couple stashed him, they explain his absence -- Padre Jerónimo took him in.

Bernarda overhears Eva and Fausto talking about vengeance. They tell her they want to get even with Scorpion Guy for attacking PJP. The Demented One applauds their sentiments but tells them they are too late. Then she appoints Fausto as the new super of the vecindad. His particular charge: to keep an eye on MD.


Max is left in charge of little Juan Pablo while MD goes off to see Alonso. As usual, the kid gets regifted like an unwanted Christmas fruitcake:
Max calls Leonela’s hotel and learns she has been out all night. He rushes off leaving the baby with Victoria.
Victoria goes to her doctor’s appointment and leaves the baby with Toni.

Leonela has indeed been out all night.
After her AA meeting, Gui met her, gave her a drink… and boom. Relapse. Self-disgust. Hatred for Gui.

Max follows the trail to Gui and attacks him in his Palace of Pretension and Porn. Gui puts up a surprisingly good fight – has he been working out? – but then Os shows up and he is no match for the Sandoval tag team. Os finds a paper – which Gui was gloating over – that shows his rightful ownership of the theater.

Xi meets Gui at a restaurant.
She’s now large and in-charge she tells him. She’s still a “perra” but she is no longer in his thrall.
She shows up at Casa Bernarda demanding her place as the star model.

Bernarda will oblige as long as Xi is ready to crush MD in the next competition. [Since when, outside of Tyra Banks’s show, do models compete anyway?]

Cruz proposes to Fernanda in front of the live and home tv audience. She accepts. Meanwhile poor frustrated Fabián is reduced to throwing dinner plates on the Sandoval lawn. Then he tidily picks them up and he and Luci retreat to share the romantic dinner that was his surprise for Fer.

It is Semana Santa (I suppose the timing was more realistic when this aired in Mexico) and Millie organizes a procession. Cruz is on the cruz. The guys in the barrio do a surprisingly good reenactment. You’d think they were professional actors.

Casa Alcazar: Tere’s on the phone with Mariano telling him she’s ready and waiting for the right time to get out by herself. She’ll see him later. Aurora comes back in telling her the hairdresser and make-up artist are both there. It’s time to get ready. She notices something is definitely wrong, she asks if Tere’s having doubts. Tere replies yes, she does. Now Juana rushes in with Art’s latest gift and holds up a car key (I knew it!). Tere’s all smiles and Aurora knows this means Tere’s doubts may have just flown out the window. All three go to check out the car while Juana gushes that Tere has it all, a husband who adores her, dotes on her and will open many doors for her, including her career. Tere agrees she and Arturo have much in common. Juana agrees, saying he also enjoys books, travel and Tere will realize all her dreams, beginning with traveling to Europe as she’s always wanted to. She has everything. Tere agrees, with Arturo she has everything she’s worked for. Aurora differs saying that no matter what you may have or not have, you won’t be happy without love. Buzz kill.

Vecindad: Espe asks if Cutberto and Juana have split. He says yes, his Juana se “tere-so”, meaning she’s become like Teresa and is now dating a rich man. Mariano comes in looking for Johnny. Espe tells him Johnny’s gone to Aurora’s to drop off Refugio and Armando because that’s where Tere and Juana spent the night to prepare for the wedding. Cutberto is clutching his chest in agony knowing his Juanita has spent the night with her rich guy. Mariano is dumbfounded, asking if the wedding is still on. Well, duh, yes!

Aurora’s house: Tere bounces back into Aurora’s room all giddy and happily announces now she’s going to get ready and put on her wedding gown. Juana leaves and Aurora tries to bring her back to their previous conversation regarding her doubts – doesn’t she want to get married? ‘Splain yourself. It’s not too much of a coincidence to Aurora that before finding out about the car, she was having doubts. Tere stammers, um, er, no, one has nothing to do with the other. OMG! She sees Juana walking in with the Vera Chang box. That’s it! She’s having second thoughts about getting married in the dress Arturo bought her. The dress Juana made her is so precious, took hours to make, etc. etc. Juana’s lapping it all up, poor thing. She interrupts and says Tere has to wear the dress Arturo bought her. Just consider how much he’s done for her even buying that car. Tere of course agrees and says she’ll be happy to put on that dress now even though she would much rather have worn the one made by Juana (oh, gag!) Aurora tells her she was a little scared there for a moment, thinking there wasn’t going to be a wedding. Pshaw! How could she think there wasn’t going to be a wedding when Arturo keeps finding ways to make her love him even more. She calls Arturo to thank him for the car. Arturo’s so happy and so nervous, he’s heading to the church even though it’s way too early. She tells him she’ll see him there, she will be there. She looks at the phone, then at the car key as though weighing her options. In the next scene she is in full bridal regalia. She thanks Aurora for always being there for her and for always being such a good amiga. Aurora just wants the best for her. She gave her a little fright for a minute there and thought she possibly still cared for Mariano. She wishes her all the happiness, etc. Tere wishes for Aurora to be happy too and get married soon. They joke about catching the bouquet when in walks Refuse-to-be-silenced, looking very guapa. She wants to speak alone with her daughter. Teresa knew she wasn’t going to be able to avoid the tipico lloro maternal (typical maternal rant). She sarcastically acknowledges she’s starting a new life, needs to be grateful with her new husband. Refusio interrupts her, saying her doubts have been confirmed, Tere loves Mariano and is marrying El Licenciado for his money. Tere wonders if Mariano told her something. Refugio just wants to beg her not to throw away her life—don’t get married. For once, I agree with Refugio.

Mariano is at a park on his cell phone when Johnny drives up asking what’s up? Mariano fills him in, saying Tere was to meet him here but now he understands she’s not going to show up. He needs to go get her, she’s his woman and she can’t marry that imbécil. Johnny tries unsuccessfully to stop him, telling him the wedding is on. Mariano pushes him aside yelling he’s going to go get her and races off in the taxi, leaving Johnny in the dust. (Isn’t this where we’re supposed to hear Simon and Garfunkel?)

Casa de la Barrera. Arturo and Luisa are ready for the wedding. He’s nervously asking about the rings, the lazo, etc. He’s pacing the room. Luisa tries to calm him down. She knows he’ll be happy because he found a woman like Teresa whom she loves as much as he does. They talk of how their parents have always been with them. Luisa knows they send their blessings on this day.

Refugio and Tere: Tere insists she tell him what Mariano told her. She tells her not to waste her time, she’s determined to marry Arturo. Refugio’s convinced they won’t be happy-- she’ll live with the regret of having ruined her life and that of el licenciado’s. He’s a good man and will suffer. But her only interest is Tere and that’s why she’s here to try to convince not to go through with it because the man she loves is Mariano. And he loves her. Tere is astounded that even on her wedding day, she is incapable of controlling herself. Doesn’t she see that insisting that she supposedly loves Mariano bothers her? Refugio: It’s a mother’s obligation to make sure her daughter is happy. Teresa: Then be happy that she’s ok instead of always ruining her life. She should be wishing all the happiness she deserves. Refugio: Hopefully she’ll never regret having been driven by her ambition.

Church: Fernando jokes with Arturo about a last minute escape to the Bahamas. Art tells him not to joke like that – he’s so nervous. Fer assures him he’s just joking and would be the first to chain him to the altar if he thought Arturo was getting cold feet. Arturo quips back wondering if Fernando will be as chistosito (funny) when he marries his sister, Luisa. (If it weren’t so sad, it would be so cute. Arturo is so nervous.)

Aurora’s place: Playing the Teresa/Mariano and now Teresa/Arturo theme, we see Teresa with the bridal veil covering her face (she should be covering her face—out of shame!). She thought bubbles, “La única manera de lograr lo que quieres es dominando los sentimientos" (the only way to achieve what you desire is by controlling your feelings). Then she adds her mantra, of course: Entre ser y no ser, yo soy, as she dramatically lifts her veil.

Back at the church: Arturo is getting very anxious, wondering what’s taking her so long (I’m not liking his tuxedo jacket) . Luisa tells him he needs to go inside the church, it’s bad luck to see the bride before the wedding. He’s dying to see her and besides, they love each other so much, nothing can bring them bad luck. Fernando tells her not to worry. He also tells her he just spoke with his father and he’s running late.

The bridal car arrives and Arturo greets her as she gets out of the car. Bad omen #1. She tells him, “Aqui estoy.” (I’m here). She looks beautiful in her Vera Chang original.

Aurora’s house: Ay caramba! Mariano arrives yelling out for Teresa, saying he’s come for her. The maid gives him the bad news that no one is there, they’ve all gone to la boda. He lies to her, saying he was invited but lost his invitation and doesn’t know where the church is. The maid obligingly gives him an extra invitation that has the church’s address on it. He runs off.

Church: Armando tells Refugio to cheer up, she looks as though she’s at a velorio (wake). She just knows this isn’t right. Juana tells her to look at the couple and she’ll see how happy Teresa is. We see Arturo and Teresa laughing. Juana’s convinced Arturo will give her anything she wants and by the way, did she tell her about the coche he bought her. Refugio’s glad she hadn’t told her because that’s another sign that Teresa just wants him for what he can buy her. Juana naturally defends Teresa, saying she loves him for his thoughtfulness, how he spoils her, and how he takes care of her. What woman wouldn’t want to be treated that way, with such attentiveness? Refugio doesn’t know, maybe they should ask Cutberto! SNAP! Boy, the old lady just doesn’t give up. She walks away and Juana is left behind like so much collateral damage. Armando goes to speak to his daughter, telling her she looks like a queen. Teresa tells him she’ll make sure they’re taken care of, bringing them out of debt and having a much better life. He’s so proud of her, finishing the university with her head held high (la frente en alto), dignified, demonstrating the values her mother and he taught her. He knows she’ll be very happy.

Wow, Paloma comes up to Arturo, telling him she hoped until the last minute she’d be able to win him back but she now sees it’s too late. He wonders if she thought he was capable of abandoning Teresa (dejarla plantada). No, Paloma, he’s not like that – he loves Teresa. Tearfully, she tells him she’s convinced if he’s willing to swear this before God, he must really love her. She hugs him close and wishes him happiness. Luisa, who’s been watching, rushes up and tells her to leave, she has nothing to do here. Fernando holds her back, Paloma leaves, and Arturo asks why Luisa can’t forgive like he has. She’ll never forgive her. She can’t believe she had the nerve to show up here. Fernando asks her to understand, Paloma still loves Arturo. Luisa can’t believe Arturo would forgive her after what she did to him. She won’t forgive her. Arturo just says, Luisa por favor, then walks away. Fernando doesn’t like her holding such rancor (bitterness) against someone. If she had been the victim, she might have been able to forgive. But anyone who messes with her bro becomes her peor enemiga (worst enemy).

Vecindad: Cutberto’s telling Johnny she’s stabbed him (clavó un puñal= literally nailed a dagger) where it hurts most. He never thought his Juanita would be capable of this. Me jugó chueco, ya tiene novio (loosely translated= she done me wrong, and now she has a BF). Johnny asks if Juana was giving him hope while she was also dating the other guy. Cutberto thinks so and he also thinks she’s acting as though she were Teresa’s mother, they’re exactly the same (igualitas)
He pulls out a bottle and Johnny stops him saying, “alcohol is the worst advisor, drinking should only be in celebration. If he drinks in sadness, he’s truly lost. They chitchat about Pati’s maid and possibly dating someone to make Juanita jealous.

Church: Refugio asks Teresa if there’s nothing to be done. Teresa calls her stubborn. How can she think she’d do something like that to Arturo. It’s enough that one woman already stranded him at the altar. Look how happy he is laughing and smiling. He’s happy with her. We now go to Arturo talking to Geno and Ruben, wondering where Mayra is. Ruben begins to explain just as Mayra and Aida walk up. Hugs and kisses all around with that hipócrita Ruben saying his two loves have decided to attend. Aida hugs Arturo, wishing him the best and Geno, the other hipócrita, is surprised to see them. Mayra then tells Geno she’s happy to see her and that it’s good to begin having fun little by little. THEN Ruben puts his arms around both Geno and Mayra saying, “the only problem here is that now you’re going to have to share (compartir) me.” He even does a bwa-ha-ha laugh! Ugh he’s such a pig. He laughingly clarifies that they’ll have to share him as a dancing partner, etc.

Aida now walks over to Teresa. Teresa didn’t think she’d come but she’s welcome to join her in her bliss. Aida tells her not to get too excited. She only came to make sure Teresa leaves the path clear for her and Mariano. Teresa’s not very happy with that thought.

Mariano is driving along when his cell rings. He pulls over to answer, good boy! It’s Aida and she’s wondering if he’s still coming because Teresa’s about to walk into the church. Now, why would she call him? He screams into the phone, “¡No! ¡Teresa no va entrar an ningun iglesia!” (Teresa’s not going to enter any church). He speeds off.

Church: Bridal march begins. Arturo walks in with Refusio. He walks up to the altar and Refusio even gives him la bendición! (blessing) then she gives him a look like qué lastima (pity). Bridal procession continues and at last Teresa and Arturo are face to face. She looks beautiful. I really like the Vera “Chang” dress except that the bodice is way too translucent for a church wedding. Fits her beautifully which is more than I can say about his jacket. Looks like he borrowed it from some kid.

Vecindad: Hernán el Galán is visiting with Espe. He’s happy to see her looking so well. She says she’s got him to thank for it. She’s doesn’t know how she’ll ever repay his kindness. He thinks perhaps there may be a way. It’s too beautiful a day for to be spent inside. “Are you asking me out, doc?” she asks. Since it is her day off, he feels it would be great to take in some fresh air. Johnny interjects, “It wouldn’t be such a bad idea to take him up on his offer. There’s no use staying here, bummed about not going to Teresa’s wedding. Besides, that wedding is going down bad.” Espe’s all, “¡¿Que?!” Johnny’s caught in a pickle. Espe demands to know what’s going on. Johnny lets on that Mariano said he wouldn’t let Teresa get married.

Church: the wedding continues. Armando hands over Teresa to Arturo as Ave Maria is sung. Beautiful church. Armando asks Arturo to take care of her and Arturo assures him he won’t disappoint him.

Grumpy’s house: Cutberto is hiding behind a tree as the maid Griselda arrives with a handful of groceries which of course spill all over the sidewalk. Cutbert rushes in to help her and does a play on words telling her not to worry about her “naranjas” he’ll lift them for her. She stands up, a little miffed, he then says not to take it the wrong way, he was referring to the fruit. She starts flirting with him asking who would’ve thought that besides being a mariachi, he’s all gentleman (caballero). Well, he jokes, they’re just getting to know each other. She’ll see that eventually he’ll lose the caballero in him.

Church: Ceremony continues. Priest talks about their commitment before God. Fernando and Luisa look lervingly at each other as does Ruben and Mayra, with Geno shooting daggers at them. Hector the director looks at Juana with a sparkle in his eye. Man, I like this guy. Priest continues, saying that through the sacrament of marriage, God will be with them and strengthen them throughout the remainder of their lives. Teresa looks scared and Refugio looks very serious. Here it comes! Priest says, “Does anyone present know of any reason that this marriage should not proceed?” Viewerville holds its collective breath and Geno looks at Aida who just shrugs. No one steps forward and the priest continues and proceeds with the vows. Just as he asks Teresa if she takes this man, Arturo de la Barrera… BAM! “¡TERESA!” shouts Mariano as he charges down the aisle. The church echos with his voice. All heads turn and Viewerville takes an even deeper breath. Geno and Aida are smiling. Teresa and Arturo both get up. Mariano continues: “No te puedes casar con el” (You can’t marry him) Aida speaks for all of us when she says, “Esto se está poniendo bueno. Se me hace que ya no hay boda.” (This is getting good. I think there’s no wedding now.) Mariano is looking intensely at Teresa as though he can barely contain himself. She walks toward him as everyone now rises from their seats. There’s a very effective heartbeat sound effect playing in the background. I think my own heart is gonna jump out of my chest as I hold my breath. She strides purposely toward him as he says, “I knew it. You love me.” He starts to say “ not for any commitment….” but doesn’t finish. She slaps him -- hard. He’s stunned, to say the least. Teresa: “How dare you interrupt my wedding with Arturo! Have some respect for this place. Before God and all these witnesses I ask that you understand that I have made my decision!” Arturo: “You’ve heard Teresa, largate (scram)!” He shoves Mariano who starts charging at him. Fernando steps in to hold back Arturo and Martin steps in to hold back Mariano. The priest shouts for everyone to stop, this is not the place for fights or arguments. Teresa tells the priest she’s there to marry Arturo because she loves him. Arturo says this man is here because he’s obsessed with Teresa. The priest pleads that unless Mariano has just cause to stop this wedding, he needs to move on. Mariano wonders if it’s just cause to know that Teresa loves him and yells at Teresa to confirm this. Teresa says she’s already said what she had to say. (oooh, lying in church, she’s going to hell). Aurora steps in and tries to calm Mariano, telling him he needs to leave. Aida and Geno smile gleefully. Aurora and Martin escort Mariano out while Arturo and Teresa look at each other. Do I detect a hint of doubt in Arturo? She holds her hand out to him telling him no one will separate them. She leads him back to the altar (sacrificial lamb, anyone?) She asks the priest to continue but first catches her mother’s look. Refugio sadly shakes her head and Teresa hesitates for a micro second then proceeds up to the altar, with her prize in tow. The priest calls for God to illuminate those that are in the wrong and to protect this couple who is here by their choice, and for love. He again asks if Teresa accepts Arturo as her husband. As a tear falls, she says she accepts him with all her heart.

Outside, Mariano is struggling with Aurora and Martin, hollering “Teresa es mía” Aurora tells him Teresa is now Arturo’s wife. He insists he’s the one she loves. Aurora wonders what manner is this to love Teresa, he needs to forget her. He’s only hurting himself. Mariano: “She swore to me she wasn’t going to get married.” Aurora: “Do you swear she told you that?” He tells of their plan to run away before the ceremony. Aurora is dumbfounded. Aida now arrives on the scene and hugs him. Mariano and Aurora stare at each other, thinking about what he’s just confessed.

Church: Refugio and Juana place the lazo around Teresa and Arturo. Outside Aida is trying to console Mariano, telling him she’s very sorry but she tried to tell him they were going to get married and he didn’t want to believe her. She asks Martin to take Aurora back inside, she is a bridesmaid after all. Aurora is very sad and doesn’t want to leave until Mariano is ok. Aida pleads with her not to make things worse. Martin agrees and takes her back inside. Mariano is pacing. He’s so upset and now looks angry as we return to the ceremony and the priest is blessing the couple. Arturo kisses his bride and they lock eyes. It’s done! She’s married him!

Outside everyone is greeting bride and groom. Teresa comes face to face with her mother who just refuses to leave bad enough alone. She says God gave her another opportunity and sadly she didn’t make the most of it (aprovecharas). Teresa wisely says nothing. Juana comes to her and says she was right in the way she handled Mariano. Teresa feels that was the only way he would understand and now there’s no going back. She starts to cry. Juana tells her it’s over. She knows Teresa is just angry but it’s time to celebrate and enjoy her wedding. Teresa asks Juana to find out where Mariano is. She wants to make sure he doesn’t pop up again. Luisa comforts Arturo telling him he’s married now and they’ll be happy. Fernando says much the same and he should take comfort in knowing that Teresa showed everyone his place is by her side. Aurora asks Teresa if she did the right thing because Mariano told her…..she doesn’t finish. Teresa asks her if he’s still there. Aurora goes to congratulate Arturo. Ruben now comes to Teresa commenting on the fracas. She smiles and says she’s not a woman who is easily forgotten. Ruben points out that Arturo will now make sure that Mariano, let alone any other man, will never come near her. She is now a married woman.

Aurora tells Juana that Aida took Mariano away. Juana’s not happy with the thought of those two being together. No one know what they are capable of (is she now anti-Mariano?). Aurora disagrees. Luisa greets Teresa telling her they’re now truly sisters. They both declare their love for each other. Fernando starts to chant, “beso, beso, beso.” The couple comes together but we don’t see them kiss.

Elsewhere, Mariano and Aida are walking down a street. Mariano is still ranting that yesterday Teresa demonstrated how much she loved him, that he’s the only man in her life. He tells of their plan to run away together. Aida, “Really? Teresa was going to abandon Arturo to run away with you?”

Back at the church, Arturo asks Tere to ‘splain what happened. She tells him Mariano’s loco. As much as she’s asked him to stop bothering her, he doesn’t get the message. He saw how she sent him to the devil and she’s furious. He’s ruined her church wedding but now all she wants to do is enjoy the fiesta but if Arturo continues with this that won’t be possible. She’s right, he says. He’s not going to let that infeliz ruin their wedding. She kisses him.

Aida & Mariano, still on some street: Aida wonders if the runaway bride scheme is the reason he told her they were through. Did Teresa seriously tell him she wasn’t going to get married? Mariano: What’s the use of repeating what she told him. He’s an imbécil. She tells him this should only serve to show just what a rata Teresa is. This is what she was capable of just because she saw them together. What should it matter to her to see them happy together if she’s supposedly so happy with Arturo? Mariano concedes she’s married and that’s not going to change. Aida thinks that at least he should see that Tere belongs to another. He’s so angry, he just can’t accept it. Aida then tells him if he wants another chance, she has an invitation to the reception.

Reception: Mayra, Ruben, and Genoveva arrive arm in arm. Mayra tells Ruben Aida needed to step away. They all think it’s due to her sadness, remembering her plans with Paulo. Ruben attempts to cheer them up by kissing each of them: Mayra on the mouth and his lover, er, Geno on the cheek. Let’s go have a fun time. Yuk.

Espe is in the car with Hernán el Galán. She’s reaches Mariano via cell. He tells her he’s on his way to see Teresa at the reception. She tells Hernán to step on it.

Reception: Aurora confronts Teresa with the Runaway Bride scheme. Teresa denies it all, saying Mariano’s crazy. Aurora presses her to be truthful. Teresa admits she had doubts at the beginning because she didn’t realize she really loved Arturo. She loves him. She didn’t give Mariano renewed hope and is incredulous that Aurora doesn’t believe that Mariano is the one who comes looking for her. Martin interrupts by telling them Arturo is looking for Teresa. He asks Aurora what’s up. She says nothing is wrong, she was just asking Teresa why Mariano showed up. Martin responds, “uh, because he’s necio (stubborn)?”

Fernando wonders now that Teresa will be living at Arturo’s, wouldn’t Luisa like to move in with him? She’s hesitant. He’d love to begin their life as a couple. Luisa whines, what if it doesn’t work out? She doesn’t want to talk about that now. They should celebrate and talk about it later. She introduces him to Refugio and Armando and shows them to their table. Armando clumsily pulls the chair out for Refugio. They’re really trying to do things right but Teresa’s embarrassed when Armando orders a cerveza and when Refugio doesn’t know what a mimosa is. She asks them to join her at their table but Armando says it would be rude to others seated at his table. He then uses the wrong term in referring to el Magistrado, who belongs to the judicial system. He uses the term Magisterio, which has to do with the teaching profession. El Magistrado politely sets him straight. Fernando tries to save Armando further embarrassment and suggests he take Teresa out for the first dance. Arturo then asks Refugio to join him. She refuses but he insists. She makes it a point to ask Luisa to watch her purse. When el Magistrado tells her jokingly they weren’t planning to steal it, she responds “well, the mule wasn’t stubborn (arisca)”. Teresa is really embarrassed by all this and continues to roll her eyes. Give it a rest. Parents always embarrass their kids. As they begin the dance, she starts in on Daddy Dearest, scolding him for embarrassing her not to mention Mom. How can mom say such things. It’s best he keep her quiet. She also complains he always took Mariano’s side and look what happened because of that. He almost ruined her wedding. Meanwhile, Refugio is sincerely apologizing to Arturo if she ever doubted his love for Tesesa. She prays to God that he’ll be happy with her daughter. He asks if she’s serious. She’s very serious and agrees to finally accept him as her son-in-law. Today, she became convinced he will make the best son-in-law. She keeps addressing him as licenciado. She begins to cry. Teresa notices and suggests they switch partners. She tells Arturo she’s really embarrassed with the Madrigal Manriquez and will have to talk to him later.

Casa Grumps: Johnny is on a ladder talking to Pati. They talk about the wedding fracas. She thinks it’s so romantic. He tells her he can’t help her escape cuz he has nowhere to take her.

The Graduate, Part Deux: Ay, Ay, Ay-ida. Mariano and she arrive at the reception. Being ever the alcahueta (procurer, gossip, pimp) she leads Mariano and points him in the direction of Teresa. Mariano to Teresa: “So the love of your life is that imbécil? The one you married instead of me? What would your husband think if he knew that yesterday you said just the opposite after you made love to me?”

High drama and the saga continues tomorrow. Can’t wait!
