ENDA Tuesday February 23. The villains don’t care what’s right, they want everything that’s left.

Overlap: Eugenio has responded to Carlota’s drunken weepy booty call. He gets to watch her waddle around (is it the shoes, or what? Carlota has the walk of a much heavier, older woman) and cry about her abandonment. He can’t convince her that kids are supposed to leave the nest. She says no one understands her. Lady, give them a break. They don’t all have doctorates in abnormal psychology. Eugenius says he’d like to understand her, then goes above and beyond the call of duty and bravely endures her leechy face-suck. Seems to really get into it, in fact. Should he get a Purple Heart for that?

On with the new: On an autumn day in Houston, Not-So-Angelic and OrlandNo are snoozing in bed all deshabille. They wake up. “What have we done?!!!”

Over at the rectory, Padre Benito asks Cristóbal whether he will remain a civilian or return to the priesthood. Cris says it depends on what Paloma decides to do. He feels Crueloca is still a danger and he needs to protect his daughter. Padres Benito and Mateo make evil-deflecting hand gestures and nod in agreement.

Romina is at the hospital, asking the doctor with great irritation what the emergency is. The doctor tries to be civil about the fact that this brat can never be bothered with her son, and says that Bernie is doing much better and will be discharged as soon as the day after tomorrow. Romi is not thrilled. She doesn’t want to take the baby home and doesn’t know how to take care of him anyway. Doc says they will teach her what she needs to know, and she can hire a nurse for the first few days to help while she gets the hang of it. “Do you know of anyone who might want to adopt him?” is Romeana’s response. The poor doctora is flabbergasted.

La Loca wanders into the sala in her robe and sees the wine bottle and glasses. “It wasn’t a dream! Eugenio was here! We kissed and then…” long thoughtful pause while we try not to imagine “…he left! I must not lose control like that again! I can’t cheat on Cristóbal, even though he was unfaithful to me with my own sister.”

The disloyal cad himself is breakfasting with last night’s partner in Tongue Twister. Cris asks for advice on how to protect Paloma from La Loca. Eugenio says, looking perhaps a tad embarrassed, that he may be a little too involved with Carloca, and not, um, ahem, in the usual way he is involved in his cases. He flashes back to the liplock. “Don’t tell me you are interested in Carlota,” says Cris, disbelieving. Eugenio gets all shifty and doesn’t answer. I think Cris’s mind has been blown.

Carloca is still in her robe, washing her own dishes. She tells herself out loud that she’s got to focus. Her only objective is to separate Paloma from Cris, so they can’t leave her all alone.

Cris, no longer hungry, is all, “Qué the heck is WRONG with you?! You know what kind of person Crueloca is!” Eugenio (not earning that genius rating at the moment) says yes, that’s what he finds attractive. She’s perverse, selfish, mitómana (no idea what that means but it must be bad), but also very intelligent, and he likes it like that. Cris can’t believe it. He warns Eugenio to be very careful. Eugenio admits that sometimes he gets sucked into her spell, and believes that she’s a poor sweet suffering thing, even though the evidence shows otherwise. Well, this is a major weakness for Team Good Guys. Can the dimwitted B-team rally?

Paloma runs into Emiliano in the lobby of the swanky hotel, where it seems everyone is living these days. He’s surprised to see her there, and she catches him up: Daddy is ex-Padre Cris, and there’s a bonus granny thrown in! Emo is delighted. Know what’s even better than her escape from the abbatoir, though? He’s getting divorced! Now they can get together again! Paloma isn’t jumping ships quite so fast, and turns away. Forget that painter punk! Ditch him and let’s get it on!, enthuses Emo. Paloma says nothing and looks at him with Great Conflict, because she is a Tragic Soul.

Paloma finally says she is Gabriel’s novia now. Emo asks if she feels the same way about Gabe that she does about him. No, she says, it’s different, but this is what she has decided. How can she do this if she still loves Emo, he asks. She reminds him that he loved her when he married Romina. Arguing about how this is different gets Emo nowhere, so he tries sliding up closer and fondling Paloma while talking about their smoochfest days of yore in his best Harlequin Romance voice.

Romina returns home to find Néstor, Emiliano’s lawyer, waiting for her with divorce papers. She tells him not to waste his time. She’ll never divorce Emo. He tells her she doesn’t have a choice.

Emo leans in to kiss Paloma, but once again she steps back and away from him. So what if he says he’s leaving Romina? She’s only interested in facts, not words and dreams. So, she’s going to stick with Gabriel, even though she totally really loves Emo, for sure. Emiliano wants to fight for their love, of course. Forget it, she says.

Romina refuses to accept the divorce papers. Néstor tells her the papers are just a formality. The divorce is a fact regardless. The only thing her attitude will affect is how much of the community property she gets to keep.

Camila tells Mónica that she’s selling her share of the ceramics business to Rafael and Joel, which of course Mónica already heard from Joel. Cami said when she was talking with Rafa she realized she still has feelings for him, but she hopes it’s just because she’s mad at Orlando, and not that she made a mistake in marrying him. Mónica knows that trying to find logic in Cami’s romantic decisions is futile, so she just nods patiently.

Luz and Rafa meet with the adoption lady. She tells Rafa he doesn’t need to be there. Since Luz is adopting alone, the psychologist and social worker will only need to talk to her. Way to care about the entire home environment, social worker. Luz wants Rafa to stay anyway, but he leaves. The lady asks Luz if she’s sure she doesn’t want to include him. No, she’s in a hurry to adopt Xochitl.

La Loca stalks her prey Cris in the rectory. He asks her what she wants. She wants Paloma. No one else can watch over (velar) Paloma, only her.

Paloma breakfasts with her abuelas and tells them she’s worried about her future. They tell her Cris hasn’t decided whether to be a priest again because he wants to stay with her and protect her. Paloma says she doesn’t need protection. Madeleine says they will never lack for money, anyway. She’s got oodles, and if Cris goes back to the church, Paloma and Rufi will be her only heirs. Rufi is surprised. Why her? Because I want to, and I like you, says Madeleine.

Another intense Carlota-Cris faceoff:
Carlota: Gimme my abused little birdie Paloma back.
Cris: Over my dead body.
Carlota: If that’s how it has to be.
Cris: I know exactly what you are capable of. Your masks have fallen off one by one, and now you’re naked. God and I see the truth. Your hate and envy of Macarena have finished you.
Carlota: Me?! Jealous of Mac?! Never!
Cris: Of course you are jealous! She was more beautiful and more of a woman than you! Do you realize you could have found another man, had children, been happy? But no! You had to cling to the impossible! (Afferarse = to cling, to insist, to hook together). Now you’ve lost.
Carlota: You think so? He who laughs last, laughs best.
Cris: You won’t be laughing. Good always wins, and people like you are punished.
Carlota: Make Paloma come back to me, or you will regret it.
Cris: Enough threats. I am not afraid of you. You are ruined. The end has come.
Carlota: We’ll see about that.

Whew! Yes, we will see about that, o crazy one. It’s why we tune in.

Gabriel gleefully tells Eugenio that he proposed to Paloma. They laugh and embrace. Didn’t they have this conversation yesterday, before Eugenio went to see Carlota?

Cris fervently prays for protection for the whole gang. A slightly threatening tone starts to drown out the holy monk chants.

Emiliano moons over a photo of Paloma and wonders aloud why she doesn’t want to be with him if she still loves him. He ignores his buzzing phone.

Romina leaves a ranty message for Emiliano demanding some face time. Liliana overhears and of course can’t help taunting her. That Karma is such a mean girl, isn’t she? Romina continues to insist that Emiliano is HER husband. “Oh, whatever. He’s trying to get back together with Paloma,” says Lili. “WHAT?!,” says Romi. “Yeah, but I don’t know if she’ll accept. Gabriel also proposed to her!” Romi looks furious. “Tough to choose between two such great guys, don’t you think? Careful with that karma! Ta-ta!” Lili flounces away, leaving Romina stewing in her own bile.

Paloma is at Gabriel’s place for a “painting lesson.” This involves him wrapping himself around her like an overcoat and helping her hold the brush. Well, okay, it can’t make her paintings any worse. She turns around to tell him about her encounter with Emo. He’s surprised and happy to hear that she didn’t go running back to Emiliano and wants to stay with him instead. Paloma admits that she still loves Emiliano; she can’t stop all of a sudden, but she also loves Gabriel and she’s chosen him. “So will you marry me?” asks Gabe. Paloma isn’t ready to commit to that. One day at a time. He appreciates her sincerity. They go back to the tandem painting.

Romina throws the papers at Emiliano and says she’ll never divorce him. He says what she wants doesn’t matter. What she did was so egregious that the divorce will be granted anyway. Romina snits that he thinks she is a golfa, but Paloma is the real slut! She’s already been with Iñaki, and now Gabriel! And Gabe has asked her to marry him, so forget about her loving you forever, chump!

Natalia calls Eugenio and tells him that Paloma told her that the day Alonso died, Carlota was out of town. Coincidence? She thinks not. They know Cruel tried to kill Doc B, so it’s not hard to believe she also tried to kill Alonso, and succeeded. Eugenio agrees, and will look into it. Doc B lies in the background, still comatose.

Romina calls Germán and demands his help. “Are you crazy? After the way you treated me?” he says, but his bizarre addiction to her prevents him from hanging up. “You have to make Emiliano not divorce me,” says Romi. “How? He hates me as much as he hates you.” Romina doesn’t care. He must find a way to do it, because if Emiliano doesn’t want her, no one else can have him, including that slut Paloma. “I don’t care if Emiliano divorces you. Deal with it yourself,” says Germs. Romina is incensed.

Emiliano paces around Gabriel’s house until Gabriel walks in from the other room. Did he let himself in? Telenovela people are always stunningly bold that way. He doesn’t waste time with pleasantries, he goes straight to menacing (well, he’s trying to be menacing, but doesn’t quite have the gravitas) warnings against marrying Paloma.

Paloma encourages Cris to return to the priesthood. “But how would you handle having a priest for a father?” he asks. “Very proudly,” she says. He worries that narrow-minded people might not approve, but she says that’s their problem. Cris also worries that they wouldn’t have much of a family life. His time would not be his own, and he wouldn’t even get to decide where he lives. She says she will visit him wherever he goes. She just wants him to be happy, and serving as a priest is what makes him happy. She’s never been like the other girls so she doesn’t care that she’ll be different, she is just ecstatic to finally have a father. Happy hugs. They argue about who loves the other more.

“I am not your enemy,” Gabe tells Emo. “Yes, you are! You can’t take Paloma away from me! She loves me!” “That is her decision to make.” Gabe goes on and on describing the life he intends to have with Paloma, to Emo’s great irritation. No, no, no, Emo stubbornly argues. He will NOT permit Gabriel to mock him! Or to end up with Paloma! Gabe gives Emo a sideways look as Emo vamooses, probably wondering what Paloma sees in him.

You know, it’s really hard to see the difference between Emiliano and all the obsessed, selfish, stubborn villains. I guess it’s that Paloma has said she loves him, but still. That doesn’t mean she’s given up her freedom and belongs to him.

Rufi shows Madeleine Paloma’s engagement ring from Iñaki, which Iñaki said was very valuable and Carlota claimed is worth nothing, and the copy she found in Carlota’s desk (she has both now). Hmmm, very curious, says Mad.

Germán finally takes the papers about the changed will to Eugenio. Eugenio asks whether he’s had further contact with Carlota, and Germs says no. She asked him to find out what happened to Doc Bermúdez, but he hasn’t learned anything. “Hmm. You may go,” says Eugenio. However, Germy has the gall to ask for a recommendation, so he can get another job. “Are you freaking kidding me?! You are corrupt,” says Eugenio. Germs says he’ll be a good boy from now on. “Some people don’t change, and I don’t think you regret what you’ve done. You’re just sorry about the results. You only came to me to get revenge on Carlota,” retorts Eugenio. “Please, please, please,” whines Germy. “No. I’ll pay you for your services and that’s it; we’re done. It’s a shame someone as smart as you took the easy route. You ruined your life.”

Carlota goes home and finds an envelope slid under the door. It’s another pasted-letters note:

I am so close to you that I can see that you are dressed very nicely today. Bermúdez.

“No! You’re dead! You’re dead!”

Cris is telling Paloma he knows she loves Emiliano, but there have always been obstacles in their way. “Yes, but now there’s also Gabriel, and something tells me I want to be with him,” says Paloma. “That something, is there revancha?” asks Cris. (Help, someone?) Anyway, Cris seems to want to be sure that Paloma really loves Gabriel and doesn’t just feel sorry for him because he is supposedly dying. No, she says, she loves him, and the thought of leaving him for Emiliano is really upsetting to her. “Well, there you go then; you have the answer in your hands,” says Cris. Paloma actually looks at her hands to find her answer, and Cris smacks her teasingly.

Luz is filling out the paperwork and telling the adoption lady she’s worried about being a good mother. The lady says love and desire to be a good mother are the most important, but you have to learn on the job. Xochi is brought in for a visit. Luz is all squeals of happiness.

Carlota leaves her house and looks around suspiciously. Música de suspensa.

Orlando and Angélica are in a restaurant for a super awkward dinner. Orly asks whether she wants wine. Ange says no. Last night she had enough for the rest of her life, thanks. Orlando kind of suggests they just forget about what happened. Ange says even if they try to erase it, it did happen, and she feels terrible. Orly says he feels terrible, too, but he doesn’t sound at all upset, while Ange is trembling and on the verge of tears. Camila is her friend! How could she betray her like this?! Orlando doesn’t think Camila needs to find out; it would just be unnecessarily rude to mention it. Ange wails that she’ll never be able to look Cami in the eye. She cannot live such a lie! Orlando looks confused.

Emiliano is at the hospital, and the doctor tells him that Romina wants to put Bernie up for adoption. QUÉ??? The doc is worried that the baby’s health will suffer if Romina does that.

Avances: Romina asks Gabriel to paint her nekkid, and doesn’t wait for him to agree before starting to drop her dress. Paloma walks in and is impactada.

Amor Monday, February 22, 2010: Tonight’s Olympic event: the Table Throw!

I hope Carlota gets the gold, because I’ve never heard the Hades national anthem.

Friday’s last juicy bits:

Three pigeons wing off to fulfill their destiny of finding some statue to poop on. Diana tells Em she knew about his night with Romina. Rufi, Chris and Paloma tell Carlota off for some of her lies about Macarena and Chris and for the fake daddy. Rufi says Carlota diluted Mac’s medicine. She says Carlota did it all because she wanted to keep Paloma with her – she was afraid of being alone. Paloma defiantly tells Carlota You can have it all – the house, the money, but I’m never going to set foot in this house again.

Delicious! And here is tonight’s feast:

Camila comes to see jailbird Samuel. He tries to take her hands, but she draws them away. He tries to compliment her on her noble heart and her beauty but she says Cut the crap. He says he’s had time to think and he repents, plus he realizes she’s the woman he truly loves. She can help him get out and they’ll live the life they should have had all along.

Do you think I’m nuts? she says. I can’t imagine how I fell in love with you in the first place, and all I feel for you now is sorry. And when you get out in 15 years, don’t even thing of coming to look for me. She leaves and Samuel clutches his hair in despair.

Diana tells Emiliano she went off to play poker the night Romina wanted to be alone with him – they’d worked it out. Em is furious. Diana said I thought she was a good choice for you.

Em says So she was there when German brought me home drunk! I wonder if he was in on the plan? Diana doesn’t know, but she does know that Romina put him to bed and seduced him.

Em goes to the door and says Leave. Diana says But I came to tell you that I’ve lost the house and the alimony isn’t enough and I don’t have any place to stay. Leave, says Em.

The three musketeers are standing shoulder to shoulder, chins jutted out, taking on Carlota. They don’t have swords, but Chris is swift with his accusing finger. Carlota says You can’t leave me. Paloma says You’ve earned your solitude. Chris says No need to bother talking to her. Carlota says If you walk out now, you’ll never see me again. Paloma says I’m willing to pay that price.

Carlota says Rufi, after all these years, first you broke your promise to Macarena and now you’re turning on me. Chris jabs a finger at her and says Don’t you insult Rufi! She’s the most faithful person on the face of the earth.

Rufi says I’m going to have a hard time leaving you because despite everything, I’ve always loved you. And I’m going to pray for you. Carlota’s façade cracks a little and her chin trembles. But it twists into a scowl and she says I don’t need the prayers of a traitor like you.

Shut up, warns Chris. Carlota says You all are going to pay big time for what you’re doing to me.

Chris says Whaddaya gonna do? Pull out a gun and shoot us all? That’s all that missing. Little does he know…

Chris herds the two ladies out. Carlota runs after them yelling Paloma! You can’t leave me! I’m talking to you! Paloma! They leave and Carlota turns into the empty house, grimacing with anger and hurt. Ungrateful brat! She stalks over to a heavy wood table, grabs the edge and gives it a good heft, knocking it over.

Paloma, my love, she anguishes, Come to me! Little Paloma, come! Cristobal, all this is your fault! Everything in my life is your fault! Damn you! I hate you! I hate you!

She smiles and for a moment is the old Carlota, confident and scheming. No, you’re not going to leave. You have to come back. She dissolves into sobs. Rufina! Bring me a tea! Rufi! Rufi! Paloma! Paloma! She falls to her knees on the exact spot where her sister lay in a pool of blood. I don’t want to be alone! I don’t waannnaaa! Nooooo!

She’s down on the floor now, writhing and curling into the fetal position and hugging herself. Hug me! Don’t leave me alone! Hug me Papi, I don’t want them to leave me all alone! Ahhhhhhhhh she wails.

I’m ready to reach right through the screen and hand her a premio. Wow.

Luz has brought a heart-shaped box of chocolates to Rafa at his office, to make peace, she says. He says he’s not mad, he just doesn’t get it. She says she doesn’t either, how to be a couple. He points out that she’s has other relationships, but she says none like this, so Deep. Really? he says. Yes, she says, a sense of connection that sometimes leaves me between feeling like running away and like staying forever.

Rafa says it seems like when you are being independent, you know what to do, but when it comes to something like telling me how you really feel, you’re at loose ends. Luz says teach me how to love that way, how not to be scared when I feel like I’m losing control. You’re just the person to teach me.

Rafa says just let me be near you and love you, and don’t put up so much resistance. It hurts me and it hurts you too.

Camila, who does know how to love, is having flashbacks of her wedding day when Rafa told her to come away with him, he’s played straight with her and Orlando hasn’t. She remembers him whupping Samuel when he attacked her.

We see a jet over the skyline of Houston. Here come Orlando and Angelica dragging their carry-ons through the airport, or the hotel, I’m not sure which. She says she’s never been there before and he exclaims over the size of the city and how he’ll take her to see some sights tomorrow.

Orlando says lunch with the business guys, and then they’ll go pick out a house. Angelica says maybe you better check with Camila. Orlando says you think so? I’d like to get it done now. Angelica says don’t be so sure. Orlando, seemingly genuinely surprised, says Garsh, do you think she won’t change her mind? Duh-huh, says Angelica’s look.

Orlando says time and distance will probably change her mind. Maybe not in your favor, says Angelica. Orlando says he’s already bummed, and now that it turns out Bernardo isn’t their mutual grandchild, it’s one less thing to bind him and Camila together. He says So let’s not discuss it for now, okay? It’s been one of my biggest dreams to export overseas. Orlando likes to think pleasant thoughts, as we know.

They decide to have a shower and meet up before the business lunch.

German is chatting with his father, who is visiting from Pachuca, out on the sidewalk. Don E walks up and German introduces them. The dad leaves for home, getting into a very modest lime-green car.

Don E admires German’s red sports car. He wants to know when he bought it. German says he didn’t, his father gave it to him. Don E says Didn’t I tell you I don’t like lies? Your father can’t afford a car like that. Alonso visited before he died and paid you to tell him about the will, didn’t he? You’re the one who told him there’d been changes, right? And you bought the car with that money, didn’t you?

German says How can you think that? Don E says Quit farting around and tell me exactly what happened.

Paloma, Chris and Rufi are at Madeleine’s (or somebody’s – Chris’s?) hotel room, telling her what happened. Rufi says You should have seen her! It was like sparks were shooting out of her eyes. Chris tells Paloma he was very proud of her, she was direct and fearless. Paloma is pleased he thinks so, but she says she’s still going to miss her, just like Rufi.

Madeleine says How can you miss someone like her? Paloma says she was part of my growing up, and it’s hard to leave her, same has it’s hard to hear all that she’s done. And there’s more, says Rufi.

Chris says it was a big step forward, and a lot of secrets got told.

Paloma gets a call on her cell. It’s Em who wants to know if Carlota told her he’d come by. She says no, and she’s not staying there anymore. He’s surprised.

The landline rings and Chris picks it up. It’s Gabriel. Chris whispers to Paloma that Gabriel is waiting for her in the restaurant. Em tells Paloma he has lots to tell her. Paloma says she has to go right now, so later.

Paloma wonders how Gabriel knew where to come. Maddy says he called for Chris, who wasn’t here, so I brought him up to speed.

In the restaurant, Gabriel asks Paloma what she intends to do. She says she’s not sure, it depends on what her father is going to do, and her aunt. Gabriels says why don’t you pick what you want to do and not depend on what others are going to do?

Paloma says she doesn’t know if she is going to have to work, or if Chris is going to go back to being a priest or what. Gabriel takes her hand and says he has a different idea. Remember how he doesn’t have much time left and they want to live day-to-day? Well, he’d ask her to live with him, but he knows she wouldn’t do that, so How’s this? Marry me!

Let’s be married for the time that’s left to me. What do you say? Paloma’s eyes get even huger than usual.

Meantime, upstairs the others are chewing over Carlota. Chris figures she’s defanged now that a lot of her truths have been brought to light. Maddy isn’t so sure.

She says we can’t just stay in a hotel forever. She wants to get them a house to live together, but she doesn’t know where. Mexico City? Get-Real del Monte? Paris? Rufi is agape.

Chris says not here. Mexico City would be best. Rufi says So are you thinking about not going back to being a priest? Chris says it depends, but he has to talk to Paloma. However, he thinks Maddy is right, they need to figure out their future.

This is so sudden, says Paloma like so many other screen lovelies before her. I know, says Gabriel, but for me, every day is an eternity.

Get married? says Paloma. Gabriel says we can see other cultures, learn new ways to express our art! Get married? parrots Paloma. Gabriel says I don’t have a lot of time to woo you and get you to love me the way I love you.

I can’t accept says Paloma. Gabriel says I know you’re starting a new life, and that you can do it alone. But we could do it together! I have to think about it she says. He says do, and please don’t feel pressured. He clutches his chest and coughs pathetically. Okay, he doesn’t, but please! No pressure? She says she’ll think about it and as soon as she decides, she’ll let him know.

Carlota, in her robe and slippers, is alone in the dark house, and uh-oh, it looks like she’s drinking. The heavy table has been righted (you have to admire her strength, if nothing else), but the big crystal vase on top of it must be a goner, because it’s not there any more. She straightens the lace tablecloth with a finger. Musica de suspenso!

She sits on the stairs and calls Don E. What are you doing? she says. Working, he says, on a very interesting case. She asks if he can’t take a break. He says he’ll come by.

She hangs up and looks around and cries. I don’t want to be alone, she weeps. The house feels so big. Eugenio, hurry over, I don’t want to be alone.

Suddenly the captions seem to have been typed by the famous thousand monkeys with typewriters. Bear with me.

Rafa has come by to see Camila with some papers. He says he knows she’s been busy with the baby and he offers his sympathy about the baby. He tells Camila that he and Joel are partners and they put together an offer. She flips the folder open, glances at the first page and says that’s fine. He says don’t you want to read the fine print? She doesn’t care.

He asks if she’s okay. She says no, actually not. He understands. He says he’ll go before Orlando shows up. She says he’s in Houston. Rafa is surprised that he left her alone at such a hard time. She says he had to go. Rafa says please know that you can count on me if you need anything. Camila gives him one of her googly-eyed searching looks.

Angelica and Orlando are in a nice club with the Houston guy who asks Angelica to dance. She says Goody, I love salsa. The guy says I don’t know how to dance salsa, why don’t you two show me? Orlando says okay and leads Angelica off.

They start dancing, and some party-hardy lady grabs the other guy and starts teaching him. Angelica and Orlando smile happily and dance. They don’t have any moves, so she puts her hands on his shoulders. They get closer and closer, laughing. Uh oh, they’re awfully close.

The group at Madeleine’s are breaking up for the evening. Chris leaves and Rufi asks Paloma what happened with Gabriel, because she can tell something did. She tells them he proposed. ¿¿¿Qué??? they say.

Gabriel is on the phone with Luz, laughing and telling her he’s proposed to Paloma. While he’s talking, he working on a line drawing of a nude with a generous behind. What are we supposed to make of that? Maybe he’s not Mr Pure as we had thought. Don E is just leaving and overhears. Gabriel gushes on about how in love he is, though he knows what the future brings. He signs off and Don E shows himself.

He asks after Luz. Gabriel says she can adopt the little girl without having to get married. Gabriel notices he’s about to step out, and Don E says he’s going to see Carlota, and she’s always full of surprises. He comments to Gabriel that he knows he came back to town to be with Paloma. So now he wants to marry her?

Meantime, Rufi is telling Paloma that marriage is nothing to be taken lightly and she shouldn’t accept. Maddy points out the fellow doesn’t have much time, and maybe it’s a sign. Not many girls get three proposals in such a short time. The other two didn’t work out, but this time it maybe be a sign that it’s her time to fly.

Anyway, she says, speaking in the majestic tones of a prophetess, marriage is in your future. Paloma says now I’m more confused than before. Rufi says you have to decide, you can’t sit on the fence. Maddy says do what you want, but don’t close yourself off. Rufi says And don’t forget that Emiliano is about to become available.

Maddy says decide what’s right for you. Think of what you want and nothing else. Rufi says and if Emiliano gets tired of waiting and looks for another person and marries?

What with Maddy prophesizing and Rufi pitching Emiliano, Paloma must be wondering if having two grandmothers is quite the picnic it’s made out to be.

People are in your life for a reason, or a for season, or for life, quotes Maddy, who must diligently read all her e-mail forwards. Paloma says how do I know if it’s Gabriel or Emiliano for a reason, a season or for life? (Hint: one of ‘em is about to keel over any minute.)

Rafa is visiting Em now, who is sulking on his bed. Rafa is astounded that Diana was in cahoots with Romina. Em says they wrecked his life and separated him from Paloma and he doesn’t know if he can get her back, plus now she has that painter guy hovering over her. Rafa urges him to talk to her and Em says she won’t let me, I’ve tried. She doesn’t want anything to do with me.

Rafa says go after her. Tell her what’s happened. If that doesn’t work, you have your life ahead of you. Give it a try. Fight for your love! Em, not budging from his bed, rolls his eyes up at his father.

Angelica and Orlando are coming back from the dinner, laughing it up. Orlando says she’s the best dance partner ever. She has a little trouble opening her hotel lock. Maybe they’re a little sloshed. He tells her he feels great with her. Me too, she says.

You do? he says, and before you know it they’re necking in the hotel hall. And I do mean necking, he’s slurping on her neck and she’s pulling off his jacket. Clutching at each other, they disappear into her hotel room and close the door behind them.

Tsk. Angelica! We know Orlando’s personal code can best be described as Ethics Lite, but you?

Don E is at Carlota’s. She offers him another drink and he says no, he’s had enough, and so has she. She pours herself another one, saying she hasn’t had a drink in years. She turns serious and says I feel so alone without Paloma and that servant. She turns her back and weeps. Don E says children are a gift, they don’t belong to us. There is nothing worse for a parent than to think they didn’t give their child what they needed to fly.

Oh, please, says Carlota. Don E says you should be proud of Paloma, she has tremendous wings. Carlota says and if those wings are used to betray me? I’m supposed to be proud of that?

Don E says Paloma didn’t betray you. Yes, she did, weeps Carlota, or she wouldn’t have left me so alone. Know why you’re alone? Says Don E, walking up to her. It’s because you made it happen.

No, she says, laying her head on his shoulder.

Bassos: AHHHHHHHHH

It’s because nobody understands meeee. She looks at him up close. You understand me, don’t you? I want to, he says sincerely. I would love to be able to. She kisses him forcefully and he kisses back! Freeze frame.

Avances: Romina is served with divorce papers. Em is free, but Gabriel has proposed. Paloma is confused about her future. Em tells Paloma that he loves her.

ENDA, Feb. 17, 2010

Eugenio tells Natalia that he told Cristobal the truth about Dr. Bermudez. How is he doing? Not improving replies Natalia. Call me with any changes says Eugenio. Natalia confesses to sending anonymous letters to Carloca. (ha-ha. I would do the same. Just to make her sweat)

The lady doctor confirms that German is the baby's daddy. Romina says she should have aborted the baby. Camila looks at her in shock. The doctor continues saying that the baby is responding well to treatment. She tells them to go home and the parents can come back later so that they can learn to take care of the baby. Romina tells German not to count on her and walks away.

Eugenio tells Natalia that what she did was a mistake. Natalia explains her reasoning. Eugenio says now that I think about it, it's perhaps better this way. That way she feels pressure and can slip up.

Gabriel talks to Luz on the phone that Paloma now knows his secret and is okay with it. He is so in love and never thought he could be so happy.

Orlando sees Camila crying and wonders what's up. She says she is so disappointed with what Romina did and her attitude. I feel so deceived and disillusioned. Orlando points out that Romina is an adult and can't blame herself for her actions. Romina has the choice to walk down the right path. And if she didn't want to that is her problem not yours. It's easy for you to say replies Camila. Your son is a good person with values. He got married with my daughter to assume responsibility for his actions although he didn't want too. But Romina lies and surrounds herself with bad people and ignores her responsibilities. I feel so sad. Orlando says he thinks its time for them to make a new life and let their kids clean up their own mess. Let's go to Europe. Let's make a life outside of Real de Monte. Camila says you do realize that Romina won't step up to the plate to take care of my grandson. Orlando yells out that she's a spoiled brat. She knows that you'll always solve her problems. Sorry to have to tell you this, but it's the truth. If you leave her to face them on her own then she will mature. And if she doesn't asks Camila? She said it would have been better if she'd aborted. Do you realize that my daughter does not want her child? I will not abandon my grandchild. I can't. (this man annoys me)

Paloma talks to Liliana and tells her that Romina will not answer her phone. Anyway they change the subject to Emiliano and Liliana tells her that he is not the father of Bernandito. Rufi knocks on the door and tells her that Gabriel has just arrived. Paloma promises to call her later.

Anamar invites Emiliano to a movie, but all he wants to do is go to bed. Romina bursts in his office and wants to talk to him. He tells her no and tries to walk out of his office. She grabs him and begs to talk. He tries to throw her out. She says if you don't see me then you will not be seeing Bernandito either. He has already started treatment and will be okay. Yes, I know replies Emiliano. Camila already told me. Just because I don't want to see you does not mean that I do not want to see my son. By law he is my son and I have every right to see him. Romina threatens to take the baby far away and Emiliano will never see him again. Emiliano says he's tired of her threats and warns her to take care of Bernandito the way she's suppose too or he will take the baby away from her. Romina laughs in his face. Anamar speaks up and says it true Romina. If Emiliano shows he can take better care of Bernandito then you, the law will give him custody. Romina tells her to shut up and lunges at her. Emiliano pulls her back and tells her to act like a mother and take care of her son. Or you know what will happen.

Paloma tells Gabe that she no longer can stay at the house. She needs a new place. He offers her to stay with him. She says thanks but no thanks. Gabe wants to help her and finally Paloma agrees for him to loan her the money. She will give him collateral. Gabe says don't worry about that. You can pay me back when you can. Paloma thanks him and says tomorrow she and Rufi will look for a new place. Gabe wants to come along and help. Paloma agrees.

Angelica offers Camila any help that she needs. Camila tells her what Orlando said last night. Angelica agrees with Orlando and also spills the beans about moving to Houston.

Luz asks Rafa when does he think they will give her Xiochi? Rafa says don't ask me. You’re the one that resolves all your problems yourself. Are you mad at me asks Luz. No replies Rafa. You just don't tell me what's going on. You don't act like you need a partner. Luz says she doesn't mean to exclude him. But you do replies Rafa.

Cristobal is questioned by the police on his whereabouts. They say that she claims he is behind the disappearance. I imagine she does replies Cristobal. But I can prove that as soon as I left her house I came back here. Just ask Padre Mateo and Benito.

Camila bursts into Orlando's office and asks him why he made plans for them to move to Houston for 2 years without consulting her. Who told you that you can make decisions for me? Orlando asks her to calm down. Camila says not to tell her to calm down. He had no right to act this way. Orlando reminds her that he is her husband. You are my husband replies Camila. But not my owner. Orlando tells her not to take it like that. He just thinks it's an opportunity for a better life. Perhaps replies Camila. But the decisions should have been made by both of us. Orlando tries to defend himself, but Camila isn’t having it. She tells him that he should never had obligated himself to this contract knowing that he had to relocate for 2 years without consulting her. She is his wife. Orlando asks her to think about it. Camila says if you had come at this to me in the beginning, I probably would have done it. But not like this. I thought our relationship would be based on honesty, but I was wrong. Orlando thinks she's over-reacting. Camila says I am not. Did you know about this before we got married?

Emiliano is having lunch with an attorney on getting a divorce. He tells the attorney that he wants responsibility of the baby even though he's not the biological father. The attorney informs him that it would be difficult. You have to prove the mother is not doing what she's supposed to do. And we will not know that until the baby gets out of the hospital.

Paloma tells Rufi that she's going to see Romina and then look for an apartment. She tells Rufi that she couldn't sleep last night because she was thinking. She tells Rufi that Madeleine showed her a picture of her mother and said that Paloma looked a lot like her. Which she did admits Paloma. Rufi agrees. Paloma thinks that perhaps she's really Cristobal's daughter. Rufi asks her what she's going to do with this doubt?

Miriam runs into Angelica's office and shows her the picture the guy took of Dario accosting the ladies. Angelica is happy.

Luz and Eugenio have lunch and talk about her relationship with Rafa.

Orlando admits to Camila that he knew about moving to Houston before he married her. Camila says so you didn't tell me because you knew I would not want to go. Is that right? Yes responds Orlando. I thought that after we got married you would feel better about going. I don't know what to tell you replies Camila. I don't know what hurts me more. That you make decisions for me or that you deceived me. Orlando tells her that he understands why she's mad, but he thinks it that this is the best for them. This is the time for us to make our own lives and our kids to make their own. Please think about this. Camila says you’re not understanding me. I'm an adult and a woman used to making her own decisions. And I will not allow anyone to make them for me. Not even you. Orlando begs her to give him a chance to prove..... Prove what yells Camila. You already signed a contract. Orlando tells her she can come and go as she pleases. (Yeah right) Camila says she doesn't know what's going to happen with their marriage. She walks out.

Rafa talks to Joel about his relationship with Luz. Blah, Blah, Blah. Joel gives Rafa an invitation to his wedding and says you’re the padrino. Oh and by the way Camila is the madrina. Rafa and Camila's song plays.

Carloca yells at Romina for telling Camila about her involvement in faking the DNA results. Romina lies and says she didn't. Carloca says I'm not an idiot. So don't you ever ask me to do anything for you again. Forget that I exist. Then proceeds to insult Romina and calls her a golfa like her mother. No wonder men leave you and abandon you. So resolve yourself in being a single mother.

Eugenio is amazed at Gabe's passion for painting. They talk and Gabe asks him if their is someone who has captured his interest? Eugenio laughs and says no, but you do.

Carloca asks Rufi if she has heard anything else about Dr. Bermudez. Nothing replies Rufi. Is it true that you had nothing to do with the test results? Carloca says that's enough. Why must you all think that I am at fault for everything? Like I pay people off and do what I want to do. If that was the case then Paloma would be here sitting next to me. And also look at me with gratitude in her eyes for being the person that she is. Rufi says you just want Paloma on a tight leash. Carloca just rolls her eyes. Rufi tells Carloca that she looks pretty. She's still young enough to make a life with someone. Especially since we're leaving. Carloca gets mad and says you’re not leaving. Then changes her tone and says well while Dr. Bermudez is still missing. Anyway I only like one man. Yes replies Rufi. But that is impossible. For me there are not impossibilities replies Carloca. Rufi tells her to look for another and suggests Eugenio. He is a manly man. (I totally agree. Also I think he's sexy with those eyes and that voice!) Carloca tells Rufi to quit saying crazy things. And why would you think that? Rufi says it looks like there's an attraction.

Paloma yells at Romina wanting to know if Carloca helped her change the test results. Romina says why would you think that? Your aunt hates me. Paloma says yes she does, but is capable of doing whatever to get what she wants. And she wanted me far away from Emiliano. Do you not remember? Romina says the only thing she remembers is Carloca asking her where she got the test done and when. Paloma yells at Romina not to lie. Romina asks Paloma not to be mean to her. She has no idea what she's going through. Finding out that your husband is not the father of your child, but German. I have enough problems right now don't you think? Paloma says you know what I find more curious? That you swore you never slept with German. Remember telling me that? Romina says I never said that. You misunderstood me. Then what did you say to me asks Paloma. I told you I only slept with German once replies Romina. (Yeah probably just once that day) I felt so alone that day. Emiliano had broken up with me. Paloma says it's amazing how you explain everything to your convenience . I am sure of what you told me. I no longer believe you. Romina says I have no reason to lie to you. If your aunt changed the results, she not only lied to you. But also to Emiliano and me. That is something that we cannot forgive. Paloma isn’t buying her story and says Romina is just like her aunt Carloca. How can you align yourself to someone that does not love you? I am so glad that he can leave you know.

Carloca pays a visit to Gabe's house looking for Eugenio. She says I thought you weren't coming back. I wasn't replies Gabe. Not until Paloma came to visit me in the city. Carlota’s eyes get really wide and asks Paloma went to get you? Yes replies Gabe. And just so you know that the time we have left together, I will do my best to make her happy. Well it must not be long since your dying says Carloca. Death will come to everyone and no one knows when their time is coming. I am just more aware of mine. Carloca tells Gabe that Paloma is all to familiar with death coming to those she loves the most and asks him not to let her experience another one. I intended to replies Gabe. But Paloma convenience me on the contrary. If I didn't feel sorry for you, I would put you in your place. Well then I am saved replies Gabe. And now that we are novios...... What asks Carloca. Your novios? You’re dying! We both are conscious of that says Gabe. But she has learned to except it and deal with in even though she has experienced death all her life. I love Paloma. And I will give her the best of me until the last day of my life. Now excuse me and I'll get my father.

Emiliano tells Anamar that soon he will be free. Anamar asks what makes him happier. Divorcing Romina or being able to get Paloma? Both replies Emiliano. Now nothing stands in my way for me to get Paloma back. Then we will marry.

Carloca tells Eugenio that she doesn't not like Gabe's attitude and that he is not someone she wants for Paloma. Eugenio says I think that Paloma is great for Gabe. Carloca says I don't want her to go through another death (then don't kill anyone else) Eugenio says Paloma is aware of Gabe's condition and has accepted it. Have you never loved anyone? Carloca says she doesn't like to talk about her private life. Fine replies Eugenio. It's hard to believe that someone with your beauty and personality fell in love with someone and it did not blossom. Why do you say that asks Carloca. Don't forget I was Cristobal's lawyer replies Eugenio. Every story has 2 sides says Carloca. Well let me here yours asks Eugenio. Carloca says I came here for professional talk not personal. Too bad replies Eugenio. How can I help you? Carloca shows Eugenio the anonymous letter she received. She says someone is out to get her and wants to pin the murder of Dr. Bermudez on her. Why asks Eugenio. I don't know says Carloca. I need protection and for you to find out who is sending me those letters. Okay says Eugenio. Do you suspect someone? Yes replies Carloca. Cristobal. Eugenio promises to help her. He cannot allow anyone to hurt a beautiful woman like herself.

Madeleine is worried about Paloma and tells Cristobal. Tell her that you are her father so that we can go.

Paloma is at the church praying to God. She doesn't want to stay with her aunt Carloca anymore. She wants God to help her break her ties with Carloca. She wants Dr. Bermudez to show up and be alive. She also says that the day Gabe leaves this earth, she wants to be at his side holding him. Also for Emiliano to no longer suffer. He deserves to be happy. One last thing. Show me the path that I should take. Cristobal comes up on Paloma. He wants to talk to her about her mother and her father. Paloma wants to ask him something. She wants to do a DNA test to see if he is her father. No replies Cristobal. Because I AM your father.

Manana: Carloca informs Emiliano that Paloma and Gabe are an item

ENDA Tuesday February 16. A lot of yelling, but a few good slaps make it all worthwhile.

Yes, it is the beginning of the end for our villains, no matter how much they lie, deny, and cry. The good guys are going to hang them out to dry.

From yesterday: Romina blows some metaphorical snot all over Cristóbal.

Camila, Meche, and Mónica powwow regarding the falsified results of the first paternity test. Could Romina have finagled it alone? Must have been the baby’s real father who helped her, right? Well, what about someone else, someone who wanted Romina to marry Emiliano? Who could that be? Meche tells them about Carlota’s cloak-and-dagger routine to hand an envelope to the clinic person the day of the test. “Could Carloca have bribed them to change the results?” asks Mónica. “Yes,” says Camila. “Yes, she could.”

Back in the waiting room, Emiliano drags Germán in with excessive force and yells at Romina that he’s brought her amante to take a paternity test and help the baby. Deny, deny, deny, says Romina’s one-track mind. Germy readily admits that the baby has to be his, and his mother died of cystic fibrosis. Romina continues denying, loudly.

New: “It’s all a lie! I love you, Emiliano!” Romina shrieks, dropping to her knees and clinging to him like a barnacle. “You don’t love anyone, not even yourself! I never want to see you again!” he retorts, and rages out. Rabid Romi turns her rancor on Germán, who just looks sad (well, what you can see of him through the blood looks sad). She snarls that he should have lied. {I hope some of the hospital staff are recording all this.} He says she never loved him or the baby, she just used them to trap Emiliano. Romememena admits it and says that’s all Germs was good for, to be used and thrown out like the trash he is. Auch. A nurse finally tells them to stop making a scene. Germs calmly asks for some help getting his wounds patched up and goes away with the nurse. Romi collapses in a chair, in absolute disbelief that her stupid lies and manipulations have backfired.

Orlando is back in his office, lamenting to long-suffering Angélica that Camila won’t go with him to Houston now, with the baby so sick. “Yes, that is really unfortunate about the BABY,” says Ange. What with everything going on, muses Orlando, probably Emiliano won’t want to go either. “Um, duh,” says Ange, but more politely. “But you could go! You know the business!” Angélica smiles, pleased that her few months of sitting at the reception desk has taught her so much.

Padre Benito is pleased to hear from Obispo Calixto that they are willing to make Cris a priest again, but he thinks Cris should be given as much time as he wants to mosey back to the church. No, says the bishop. Just enough time to arrange his personal affairs.

Ange asks Orlando for permission for a little time off before they go to Houston. She and Miriam want to go to Mexico City to deal with their accusation against Darío. Orly grudgingly consents.

Natalia tells Eugenio via phone that Efraín, the investigator, thinks Alonso went after Carlota for killing Iñaki, and that’s what did him in. Efraín is willing to continue helping them.

Paloma and Gabriel arrive back at Misery Manor by chauffeured fancy car, all holding hands and lovey-dovey. They agree they are novios. Well, now that that’s settled, smoochy-smoochy. Dang, where’s Emiliano when we need him to appear? He’s falling down in his stalker duties. {I must say, as much as I like Gabriel and think he’s way better for Paloma than Emo, these two actors do not look at all comfortable kissing each other.}

Out on the street, Emiliano tells Camila that Germán is the baby’s father. Cami is all apologies, but he says he doesn’t blame her; this is all Romina’s fault. Emo says he still cares about the baby, so he asks Cami to let him know how he’s doing.

Paloma has foolishly ventured into the gothically gloomy confines of Misery Manor, where Cruel reams her out for having dared to leave the house without permission. “I don’t need permission!” says Paloma. “My house, my rules!” bellows Cruel. “Fine! I’ll move out!” Crueloca says she can’t leave because she has no place to go. Doc B is gone, and Gabriel left and is dying besides. “Gabriel’s back, and I’m going to go live with him!” says Paloma, still not having learned that she should never tell Carloca anything.

{Hilarious previews of Camila as an olde-tymey dame in CS, wailing about getting married to Juan de Dios, and wailing some more when she’s told her baby is dead. I’m not sure it’s supposed to be a comedy, but…}

Miriam and Angélica consult with a lady we may have seen before, but I don’t remember. She might be the editor. Or maybe she’s a lawyer. I don’t know. Anyway, they want progress on the legal front, and soon. It took them awhile to decide because they were afraid of Darío´s threats, but no more. The lady says there’s hope even though the dirtbag has already registered their work. They’ll get some peritos (experts) to certify that it’s their work, then start a lawsuit. Miriam and Ange just need to get together any drafts and files they have to support their claims.

Rufi tells Paloma that the baby is very sick. Paloma wonders whether she should go to the hospital to visit. Rufi thinks that would just be throwing fuel on the fire. Paloma tells Rufi that she and Gabriel are novios. Rufi is thrilled and asks whether they’re way in love. Eh…no, not so much, says Paloma, but she really cares about him, and there are different kinds of love. Good enough.

Also thrilled is Eugenio. “That’s more like it!” he says. “You could live a long time yet!” Gabriel doesn’t want to talk about the future. He says he and Paloma have decided to just live and be happy one day at a time. He’s still a little mad that Eugenio told Paloma his big secret, but Don E says he really had no choice after she found out anyway. Well, now Gabriel doesn’t have to pretend or run away from Paloma, so he’s glad Don E and Tia Loca played Cupid. Big hug.

Darío assaults Miriam and Angélica in the parking garage as they leave their meeting. Some guy driving in, who looks familiar but I’m tired, is mysteriously unseen by them as he whips out his camera and records the action. “With this, I’m going to the primera plana (first level?),” he says with satisfaction. I’m not sure what he means by that, but he plans to do something with the recording.

Camila is back at the hospital, reaming out Romina, who has somehow not yet wandered off for a manicure or some shopping. Lots and lots of furious yelling, containing: a. you nasty two-timer, b. coerced marriage, c. didn’t I teach you any values?, d. lies lies lies, e. selfish, f. faked paternity test, g. was it Carlota or Germán who helped you? After Cami shoves Romi onto the sofa, Romi finally cracks and says it was Carlota, who didn’t want Emiliano with Paloma. Even though she already pretty much knew this, Camila is still shocked. Romina tries to pretend that Carlota made her do it, but Cami’s garden doesn’t need fertilizing, so she ain’t buying it.

Carloca paces her study, muttering that Paloma keeps making her do things. Unfortunately, she can’t do anything to Gabriel until she figures out what happened to Doc B. But who could be sending her those anonymous messages?

Emiliano takes up his well-practiced pose, mooning under Paloma’s balcony. He gives up after only a few seconds.

Darío storms into Lucila’s office and demands her help denouncing those horrid women who accused him of plagiarism. Nothing doing. She throws him out.

Germán calls Liliana from the emergency room and asks her to come to the hospital, saying it’s urgent.

The police detectives pay a visit to Misery Manor to ask a few questions regarding Doctor Bermúdez. Carlota puts a little too much smiling and wide-eyed innocence into her insistence that all this can have nothing to do with them.

A nurse tells Natalia that “he” hasn’t improved, he’s still the same. Natalia sits on the bed and tells the patient he has to get better, and I guess the actor was finally available because we get to see that it is, indeed, Doc B lying there.

Rufi tells the detectives what time Doc B dropped her off at home after the party. Carloca says she was home earlier, as Cris can verify. Then she pretends to have a moment of shocked realization. “Cristóbal was out wandering the streets late at night! Gosh, could he be a serial killer?” “Oh, shut up,” says Paloma. “He’s probably got the doctorcito’s corpse stashed somewhere!” says Loca. “Or maybe he’s got the doctor stashed somewhere, alive and kicking,” says Rufi, with a disgusted glare at Cruel. (She says vivo y coleando, alive and wagging).

Eugenio recounts the story for Madeleine and Cris, as we see in flashback that Doc B called him and he rushed over, and the doc only managed to say “Carlota” before he passed out. Eugenio called a doctor friend and they had Doc B taken to the city in an ambulance and kept it quiet to protect him. “Isn’t it a crime to hide this?” asks Cris. Eugenius says it’s all under control. He’s sure that Carlota tried to kill Doc B, though, and probably killed others. Madeleine wonders why she hasn’t been arrested, then. Eugenius says they don’t have enough evidence, and the doc can’t denounce her until he wakes up. {Oh, come on! All you need is an anonymous note!} So, he is trying to gain her confidence so he can push her to the limit. “Carlota has won a lot of battles, but she is not going to win the war,” says Cris. Uh, Cris, maybe you might want to get your daughter and her long-suffering pseudoabuela and her new novio out of the line of fire. Just a thought.

Liliana arrives at the hospital and Germy tells her he is an idiot. She does not argue with that. Germs says he wants to be with her; she says too late. He says his baby could die the same way his mother did, and gets genuinely teary at the idea. Lili says she really hopes not, and it’s a shame that Germán has ruined his entire life when he had everything. Is this rock bottom? Might he be redeemed? He begs Lili not to leave him alone, but she does.

On her way out, Lili sees Romina in the waiting room. “Since Paloma won’t do this, I will,” Lili says, and she slaps Romi so hard she knocks her back onto the sofa. Then she calls her a zorra.

After the detectives leave, Paloma yells at Tia Loca for accusing Cris. Carloca says even though Cris was found innocent, she’s more and more convinced that he’s a farsante (fraud). “Why all the hate and bitterness?” asks Paloma. “Look, you daring little brat, you are nobody to judge me! Don’t provoke me! You’ll follow my rules and do what I say!” bellows Auntie Maim. After Cruel storms away, Rufi says tia gives her gooseflesh (se me enchina la piel).

Luz tells Rafael about the abusive boozer’s threats. He’s worried and doesn’t want her to go out alone. Luz says she’s fine; they say guys like that just want to intimidate (anvils? Let’s hope not). The silver lining is, since he’s got his sights on Xochitl, they want to expedite the adoption so the little tyke will have parents to protect her. So, they’re getting married! Rafa looks thoughtful and swallows hard.

Liliana bounces into the house and squeals to Paloma that she has good news. “Me too!” giggles Paloma, unable to wait. “I’m Gabriel’s novia!” This happy momento is followed by something even more satisfying: Camila has followed Lili in, and she slaps Carlota across the face. There is a whole lot of fury fueling that hit. “How DARE you connive to change the paternity test results so Emiliano would marry Romina, when you knew perfectly well that the father was Germán?!” Behind her, Paloma is impactada. Carlota spews her usual lines: “How DARE you accuse fine upstanding pure me of such things?! Get out of my house!”

“Tia? Is this true?” asks Paloma, who has not yet figured out that the louder Carlota gets, the more she’s lying. “Your daughter is a slut, and you’re a bad mother! Don’t try to blame me for your filth!” Cruel yells at Camila. Cami says she will get proof, and Crueloca is going down hard. On her way out, Cami warns Paloma and Rufi to be very careful, because they are living with the enemy. Lili hastily departs. Cruel continues yelling. Rufi and Paloma both look very concerned, and I don’t know why they don’t both just run like hell.

Confab at the platería. Anamar is there, of course. Emo says something about Romina and Germán only having been together one time. Ummmm, I don’t think it was only once, says Ange. She restates her previous assertion, that it’s unbelievable Emo could possibly have spawned a child on the supposed night, of which he remembers nothing. Well, regardless, Emo is having a really hard time giving up the child he had come to love.

Paloma tells Rufi that she doesn’t want to believe the accusations against Crueloca, but part of her does. Rufi says it’s not hard for her to believe since she knows for sure that Cruel is a vicious liar. They agree that they don’t want to stay in that house any longer. They will find a room to rent or something. Rufi says they can use her savings, and Paloma says she will work, and she will have her engagement ring re-appraised and sell the necklace Tia Loca gave her for her birthday if she has to.

Natalia tells Eugenio via phone that Doc B still has not improved. He asks her to keep him posted the minute something changes. Nat confesses to him that she sent a little anonymous note to Carlota.

The doctora tells Camila, Romina, and Germán that Germs is definitely the father of the baby. Romina, surprisingly, has stopped denying it. The doc tells them that cystic fibrosis is incurable, but Bernardito is already recovering well from the current crisis, and with treatment he can live a mostly normal life. She recommends that they all get some rest now, before they come back to learn how to care for the baby’s special needs. Germy looks relieved that the baby is doing better. Romi stares stoically the other direction. After the doc leaves, Romina snottily tells Germán to take good care of the baby he wanted, but don’t count on her. Camila is livid.

Avances: Paloma thinks Cris may be her father. Romina still won’t give up on trapping Emiliano.

Theme dicho (said by Liliana to Germán): Cada quien recoge lo que siembra. Everyone reaps what they sow.

Amor Monday, February 15, 2010: Romina hears a creepy clucking sound – it’s her chickens, come home to roost

Friday: Paloma goes to Gabriel in Mexico City. He doesn’t want her to stay out of pity and then see him croak. She says she really cares about him and wants him to come back to Real del Monte. Em looks at the photo on his cell phone and leers. Lili was right, he thoughtbubbles. His friend is betraying him, the baby must be his. Why oh why did he marry Romina?

Last week was a doozy, and this one promises to be, too, so strap yourselves into your seats and awaaay we go!

Carlota’s doorbell rings. It’s Don E, who won’t be brushed off. Steamed, he demands to know why she told Paloma that Gabriel is dying. She says I didn’t know it was a secret, plus you told me yourself. I never did, he growls. How else would I know if you hadn’t? she says. Don E says I talked to Gabriel’s doctor on your phone - you must’ve been listening on the extension.

Oh no no no, she assures him. I could never do anything like that. Don E is frustrated and says you’re so persuasive when you lie. You really are an amazing person, so okay, I agree to be your lawyer. Carlota is surprised. Don E says there’s a sunny side to your indiscretion - it benefits Gabriel.

He strides out and Carlota looks amazed.

In the hospital waiting room, Em shows Rafa the photo of Romina and German in bed. We know it’s not nice to kiss and tell, but of course he wasn’t the one doing the kissing. Rafa is amazed that he didn’t do anything. Em says he wanted to punch out German and maybe Romina too, but he realized that the photo was what he needed to get his divorce. Smart! Says Rafa.

Chris shows up and Em goes to have a coffee with him. Rafa will hold the fort.

Rafa’s cell rings and it’s Diana crying and begging him to go to Pachuca with him to confront Samuel about the house. Rafa says we’re divorced now – you’re responsible for your own decisions. Diana wails But he robbed me! Aren’t you going to help meeeee?

Rafa says you’ll still get your alimony. Rent some place and get a job. You’re horrible, says Diana. Probably, says Rafa, and, since you called, you should know that your grandchild is very sick. You should come to the hospital. Diana says I have more important things to do right now – he’s been sick since he was born. Whatever, says Rafa, disgusted, and he hangs up.

Romina comes home from the hospital and finds German asleep in her bed. She says I told you to get up and go! He asks about the baby. Romina says it has something, but I don’t understand what it is. She assures him Em doesn’t know about them – he’s too worried about the baby. She says she’s going to take a quick shower and he needs to get out of there.

Em apparently has told Chris about German and Romina. Chris admires his restraint. Em says the reason he asked Chris to come is that he wants to get the DNA tests but he doesn’t have the receipt for them, Dr B did when he disappeared. He wants Chris to try – he’s so respected. Of course, an angry crowd was throwing tomatoes at Chris just a few weeks ago, but maybe his reputation has healed up quickly. Chris says count on me.

Carlota is sitting around in her slippers in the darkish living room when Rufi comes home. As usual, Carlotta’s not reading or anything. Maybe she just is tanking up on darkness. Rufi wonders why she’s there and not in bed and she said Don E rang the doorbell. She wants to know where Paloma is, but Rufi doesn’t know.

Carlota says if Paloma thinks she doesn’t have to answer to her anymore just because she turned 18, she’s sorely mistaken. Carlota then asks what the news on the street is. Rufi says all people can talk about is Dr B disappearing. Carlota says they think he’s dead, right? Rufi says they don’t know. One flower lady said that she’d seen him that night.

Really? says Carlota, her eyes narrowing. Rufi says he appeared to the lady, like a ghost, but I think the lady was just trying to get attention.

Carlota thoughtbubbles: Could it be he’s alive? Is that why I got that call yesterday?

En cambio, no…. and we go to ad. There’s Aracely Whatshername with abundant crimson curls, her surging bosom trying to escape a period dress, and Eduardo Yanez with long flowing locks blowing in the wind. Hmm.

Camila is just doing up a red pair of those high-waist trousers that look so good on her. She tells Orlando that she just can’t go to Houston now with the baby so sick. He understands, he says. Camila says they’re going to baptize the baby. Orlando says he prefers not to go alone, but he has to go.

Gabriel has cooked up a nice lunch and he and Paloma are eating at a table in the yard. She notes that they both have been around death a lot, but in different ways. He says her experiences have given her art maturity and depth.

Gabriel tells her that his parents died young and he learned you could either spend your life crying in a corner, or you can use every moment to the max. She says she loves that about him.

She has to get back, she says, Are you coming with me? He says no, he wants to stay, but he takes her hands and says You’re not going to leave just now either. You wanted to enjoy the time we have together – then let’s do that, even if it’s just for now.

Don E arrives at Gabe’s Real del Monte studio, where the maid is still cleaning up. That must’ve been one helluva party. His cell rings and it’s Natalia telling him she has “him” at her house now. Don E’s glad. Natalia says he’s not any better. Don E thanks her for her help and she says it’s her great pleasure – she’s at the head of the long line of people who are thirsting for justice.

The baby is getting baptized by Padre B in scrubs while a nurse in scrubs holds him. Em, Romina, Camila and the two granddaddies watch from behind the observation glass. Romina says he’s so cute, he looks just like you, Emiliano. Em looks away from her in disgust.

Em asks a passing nurse if the test results are back yet. No, she says. Romina says to him, don’t worry, we’ll have him at home soon. Em stomps off angrily. What’s with him? asks Romina. I need him to console me, support me, or something. Camila soothes her.

Paloma and Gabriel are in the open-air top seats of what is probably a tour bus, riding around seeing the sights in Mexico City. Apparently the city is a hoot, because they’re both pointing and laughing full-out for hours. They play around, getting more touchy as the tour wears on. Pretty soon he has his arms around her and she puts a friendly kiss on his face. He says so this is your first time here? She says can’t you tell?

He says you are my life. She says but just for now – you said so. After a while, the shadows are lengthening and they’re still riding on top of that bus, her head on his shoulder. Nobody else has been in the top level, and I wonder if the driver even knows they’re still there.

Chris is talking to Dr. B’s secretary. She tells him the police came by, but there wasn’t anything suspicious. Chris wants to know if Carlota came by, and the secretary says not since he was going with her sister.

She finds the envelope with the results and says if I didn’t know you so well, I wouldn’t give them to you. Chris thanks her and says he’s sure the doctor, wherever he is, would appreciate her doing that. She says she hopes the doctor is okay.

German has come to see Carlota – Rufi’s surprised about that, and also didn’t know about the baby. He heads for Carlota’s office.

Carlota snarls finally! What did you find out? German says nothing – the earth seems to have swallowed him up. What makes you so sure he’s dead? Don’t ask stupid questions, she says. German tenses up and says Don’t insult me. Oooo, says Carlota, smiling, getting up and circling him. Aren’t we indignant? Not everyone would give you a second chance. So deliver.

He says You haven’t told me what you want me to do. She stands close and says What would you like? He grabs her and kisses her forcefully.

On the phone, Natalia asks somebody if “they” are coming. Great! It needs to be on those dates. I’ll call again, and remember, don’t tell anybody. She hangs up and smiles.

The lady doctor has come out and is telling our group that the baby has cystic fibrosis. She has to flip her head back and forth to do her announcement as, in typical telenovela style, half the group is lined up on one side of her, and the other on the other half, so they show their faces to the camera.

She says in a preemie, anything can be serious. Also, the results from Em and Romina have come back, but….

But what, doctor? Both parents have to be carriers and Romina is but…. Emiliano isn’t. Em glares at Romina, who cuts a look at him, then looks away, like a dog caught with a chewed shoe.

The doctor says either the results are wrong, or Emiliano isn’t the father. Jeez, why not announce it over the loudspeaker? All eyes on are on Romina. Em yells at her Now is the time to tell the truth! Who is the father of the child? You, says Romina. Only you.

Chris arrives with the envelope and hands it to Em, telling him You aren’t the father of the baby. Romina darts her eyes back and forth between him and Em and realizes what’s up. She stares at Em.

It’s not true, she says. I had a test done before the baby was born, remember? And it proves you are the father. No, it doesn’t, he snarls, and this explains why Bernando was born “premature.” Rafa grabs his shoulders and says fighting won’t solve anything.

For her part, Camila, takes Romina’s shoulders and says Who is the father? It’s Emiliano, Romina swears.

The doctor says If we don’t have the real father, we can’t do the treatment. (Hands up if you think this is true. Anyone?)

Chris says Romina, nobody is judging you. (Ha!)But the life of an innocent child depends on you and the real father. Romina says Emiliano is the father.

Liar! explodes Em as he lunges at her. Rafa grabs him and pulls him back. Em leaves to get a little fresh air, and Camila grabs Romina roughly by the arm and drags her off, saying You and I have to talk.

Emiliano is outside the hospital, panting from adrenaline, scowling. He’s a much better scowler than he is a mooner – he might have a bright future as a telenovela bad guy, maybe curling his lip as he murders somebody. And now guess who runs up? Anamar, who just happens to be strolling near the hospital. Is something wrong with your baby? she wants to know. Em snaps that it’s not his baby.

Paloma is about to leave. She’s tearful and says Mexico City is beautiful – she would have loved to live there. Gabriel says then stay – I’ll help you.

No, she says. You wanted this to be our last time together, right? I don’t get it – it seems foolish, a waste of time. We could have more days like today, but if you don’t want that, there’s nothing I can do.

She throws her arms around him. They both anguish. She tells him she’ll never forget this day. She gets into the chauffeured car. He walks to his front door, then turns. He anguishes for a nanosecond. Usually a moment like this would get a huge long take, with a closeup of his eyes brimming with tears, and violins swooning in the background, but hey, we’re in ultimas semanas.

He runs back to the car, grabs the door and pulls her out. Don’t go! I’ll go with you! Really? says Paloma. He says For the rest of the time I have left. But I don’t want you to see me die. When the time comes, I want you to let me go. Okay, she says, but only at that last moment. They kiss, a real kiss this time.

Whadda job sighs the chauffer. But they don’t show that.

Carlota is at home and sees a big manila envelope has been slid under the door. She opens it. In cut-out letters it says I’m alive. Look out. Her eyes pop wide.

Who knew a Yorkie could use scissors?

Camila is telling off Cleopatra, the Queen of Denial big time. She tells her the gig is up, the tests are in, and she just set up this whole thing to trap Emiliano. No no no, says Romina, I don’t want to hear any more! She claps her hands over her ears.

Camila yanks them off and tells her she’s not a kid any more, that the life of the baby is hanging in the balance, and she’d better get the father of the child, German or whoever it is, and get him in here. No, no, says Romina, running off.

Back to Em and Anamar. He wonders how he could have been so stupid. She says he’s not stupid, he has values. He snorts Values? I must run around looking like a sucker. No, she says, you thought the child was yours and did the right thing. It’s the child’s mother who has no values. Your values are what made me fell in love with you

Luz tells the social worker about the mean guy holding a knife to her throat to scare her into giving the little girl back. She looked tough, she said, but she was plenty scared. What to do? They’re going to file charges.

Diana is at the visitor’s room of the prison, asking Samuel about her house. He said the business deal went south, but don’t worry. When he gets out, he’ll get it back. Diana says How could I have been such an idiot? You’re a crook, a user, a loser. He says don’t insult me. He tells her she’s a grasping ugly woman. Etc.

He tells her how could she think she could compete with Camila, who is beautiful and classy? She lunges across the table and grabs his neck. The guards pull her off, and all the other prisoners and visitors swivel their heads to enjoy the show. He calls after her You don’t know how revolting it was to get in bed with you!

Rufi is cooking and is surprised when Madeleine is rolled in by her manservant. Madeleine says she came to have a tea with her there in her kitchen. My kitchen? Says Rufi a bit shyly. Madeleine says the kitchen is the best place to have tea and talk.

At her house (or wherever she it is she’s been staying lately), Natalia is talking to a man I don’t recognize. She’s filling him in – seems like he didn’t know that Alonso died until just recently. She says that Roberto (Alonso’s business friend) was out of town on his honeymoon, and she didn’t know anybody else. They told her he’d gone to Columbia (read: has a job on another telenovela), and that this guy was taking care of things.

The guy says that the Alonso’s death must be connected to the information that Alonso had about the will. He believes, from the information Alonso gave to Roberto about the will, that apparently Paloma originally was supposed to get her inheritance at 18, and you can’t change a will after the people who had it drawn up have died.

Natalia sighs that it looks like the investigation will have to continue. Too bad Alonso died before finding out the results. The fellow says probably his death was caused by the investigation. If it has to do with Inaki being murdered, then probably the same person altered the will.

Natalia says So you think Alonso wanted to kill Carlota? If that woman is the she-devil you say she is, it’s possible, he says. We need to find out where Carlota was during the time that Alonso disappeared and was found dead.

Whoa, says Natalia, holding her head.

Rufi and Madeleine are having their tea. Mad tells her sweetly not to be jealous of her. Rufi says me? Jealous? Mad says down through the years she’s learned to read people. She says Rufi and she are co-grandmothers. Tears come to Rufi’s eyes. Mad says I thank you so much for all the love you have given Paloma all these years. Rufi says I’m just a servant. Por favor! says Mad tenderly. Mad says we are all different in our values and our feelings, but our social class doesn’t matter.

Glad you cleared that up, Mad.

Mad says even if you’re not a blood relative, you’ve given Paloma much more love than that horrid aunt of hers. Rufi says I don’t want to be separated from Paloma. Mad says How can you think you would be! Look, I don’t want you to call me Senora, call me Madeleine. I want you to help me by bringing Paloma to feel a little tenderness towards me. Now it’s Mad’s turn to be tearful.

Rufi says as soon as she learns you are her grandmother, she will love you. Mad says I want her to love me because I’ve earned it like you did. That’s the love that really counts. Tell me what’s she’s like, how I can win her over. They smile happily at one another.

German is strutting happily down the street and spots Em moodily leaning on a tree branch. What’s up, homie? he says. Em slugs him, and tells him he needs to show up at the hospital right now because the baby is sick and they need its father.

You’re the dad, German protests. Em says they did tests and it’s not me. German swears he’s never had anything to do with Romina. Oh yeah? says Em, whipping out his cell phone. Check this out.

German says oh. That’s not me. Em slugs him in the stomach, then throws him against the tree trunk. Ouch! Slo-mo, with Em’s hair swinging dramatically. German’s on the ground, the wind knocked out of him, blood streaming from his mouth. He holds his hands up to tell Em to stop.

Romina is coming down the hospital hallway alone and Chris intercepts her, telling her he wants to talk to her about her relationship with Emiliano, the baby, and herself. She says Look, Padre, or ex-Padre, whatever you are. I don’t want to hear your sermonizing. He says he cares about Emiliano, and…. She says then give him your advice, not me. She flounces off.

Distraught Camila is a coffee shop with Meche and Monica, telling them that Romina ran off and she hopes she went to look for the real daddy. Camila figures that the first test was faked, and who would do that? Meche says somebody who wanted Romina to marry Paloma. Camila says Who would that be?

Meche flashes back to that day at the lab when somebody in a big coat and hat handed a fat envelope to the receptionist at the lab. She tells Camila she saw Carlota that day, dressed to be unrecognizable, handing over the envelope. A bribe!

Em has dragged bleeding German into the waiting room and tells Romina, who for once hasn’t fled the scene to go shoe shopping, that here’s the daddy. She denies it. Em dramatically whips out the tiny phone. She looks at the picture, bobbles for a moment, and then says I don’t know who sent you that – it’s been photoshopped.

Em grabs her and says I took it. I was coming by to bring you to the hospital. I want German to take a test. No! says German.

It’s not necessary, he says. I don’t want to keep lying. Behind Em’s shoulder, Romina gestures for him to shut up. I was afraid to get a paternity test, even when Dr B offered.

Romina runs over and gives him a shove. Shut up! she says. You shut up, says Em.

German says my mother died of cystic fibrosis. The child is yours, Romina, and mine.

If German is Em’s friend since childhood, how did Em not know this already? Sigh.

Avances: Paloma tells Carlota she was with Gabriel, and Carlota slaps her.

En Nombre del Amor, February 12, 2010

Discussion post for Friday's ENDA episode.

Labels:

En Nombre del Amor, February 11, 2010--Where's Rodolfo?

Luz tells Paloma that Gabriel left for good and gives her a box that contains an hour glass and a letter from Gabe; Cristobal tells his mom that she has a granddaughter.

Rufi tries to get Pal to read the letter (even though Luz said she shouldn’t read it until she’s in Mexico City). Carlota comes in and puts on a woe-is-me-act about how alone she’s going to be when they leave. She’ll probably never leave there since her memories and deceased loved ones (among them, Macarena) are there. Emiliano shows up and informs them that Dr. Bermudez disappeared--it looks like someone attacked him at home but they don’t know if he’s dead or alive.

Padre Benito points out to Madeleine that first Pal has to be told that Cris is her father. Cris has it all planned out with Dr. B. and Rufi, but mientras tanto, Maddy will have to be patient. Cris then mentions that it’s Pal’s birthday and he wants them to go give her a hug. Madeleine is overcome with emotion and thanks God for so many blessings. Suddenly, Padre Mateo bursts in with the bad news about Dr. B.

Luz and Rafael wonder what happened with Dr. B. Apparently the police have already checked all the hospitals but he’s not there. Luz feels sorry for Pal and tells Rafa about Gabe leaving para siempre because he doesn’t want Pal to see him die.

Rufi cries that she doesn’t understand and Pal cries that it can’t be and runs off to her room. Carlota thinks to herself that she left Dr. B. dead, so what happened?

Ines has returned from her honeymoon and is visiting Diana. Diana tells her sob story about how she can’t find Samuel anywhere (and he has the deed to the house) and begs Ines to help her.

Samuel is on the phone with a scuzzy guy who says that Sam better get the money ASAP, or else.

At Dr. B’s house, the police tell Eugenio that the attackers came in the back door and Dr. B. was caught off guard. Eugenio asks whether there was more than one attacker--they don’t know yet, but it was well-planned. When one of the cops asks who took the body, Eugenio shrugs (with a somewhat guilty look on his face) and says they have to think that Dr. B. is still alive. The other cop thinks if that’s the case, then Dr. B. had to have someone help him.

Cris and Madeleine have arrived to see Pal. While Maddy talks to Pal, Cris asks to speak to Carlota. As soon as they’re alone in the study he grabs her forcefully and accuses her of getting rid of Dr. B. in order to prevent Pal from leaving. Once again he invites an anvil to come crashing down on him by saying that he’ll prove she’s behind all this if it’s the last thing he does. Carlota claims that it couldn’t have been her since she couldn’t have carried the body away, but Cris has no doubt that she had something to do with it. She snarks that now that he’s no longer a priest, maybe he should become a detective. He swears that her days are numbered.

Madeleine tries to encourage Pal not to lose faith, etc. In a real “well, DUH” moment, Rufi wonders who would have wanted to harm Dr. B. Maddy promises that she’ll personally ask Eugenio to help find Dr. B. Emiliano announces that it’s time for him to go so Pal walks him to the door. He tells her that she’s not alone, he’s there for her.

Romina stops by Camila’s store, where Cami and Orlando have been discussing the disappearance of Dr. B. Upon hearing the news, Romi is all upset that Pal isn’t leaving town now--what bad luck I have! Cami is disgusted and calls Romi selfish. Ro-it’s-all-about-ME-na stalks off.

Madeleine is still trying to console Pal. She thinks that this incident isn’t going to stop Pal from starting a new life, and she’s sure that this is the beginning of the end of Pal’s hardships. Nobody leaves this world without reaping what they have sown. The baddies get theirs, and the good ones like you will receive blessings. Yeah, ya hear that Carlota?

Angelica talks with Anamar about working at the platería--Anamar assures Ange that she’s not going to leave town and won’t leave her in the lurch (in terms of work) no matter what happens with Emiliano.

Rufi agonizes to Cris about how all their plans have gone down the tubes. Cris says their plans have only been postponed. Rufi tells him to pray for Dr. B to be alive, because they can’t take yet another death.

Madeleine asks Pal to forgive Cris; Pal replies that she can’t think about anything other than the doctor right now, but agrees to think about Maddy’s request.

Carlota calls German and demands that he find out what happened with Dr. B. German reminds her that he doesn’t work for her anymore and hangs up on her.

Samuel is waiting outside Romi’s house when she arrives home. She asks whether he’s there to deliver the furniture he was supposed to buy or to return the money he stole, then tells him she doesn’t have a father anymore. He asks her to listen to him and says there is an explanation for everything.

While shopping at Camila’s, Ines tells Cami that she should be worried about Sam--he and Diana were romantically involved and he asked Di for the deed to her house, and now he’s nowhere to be found.

Samuel tells Romi he had no choice but to give the money to those guys, or else he’d be killed, and claims he didn’t know they were crooks. He gets on his knees and says he needs money--if she doesn’t give it to him he’ll have to leave the country for good and he doesn’t want to lose her again. To top it off, he pretends to cry.

Cami calls Rafa to tell him about Diana giving the deed to the house to Samuel. Cami’s on her way to Romi’s to tell her what Sam did to Di.

A squirmy Orlando has a phone conversation with his business associate in Houston--the guy’s wife has some houses picked out for Orly and Cami to look at. Ok, but don’t say anything to Cami yet because I want to surprise her that I’m buying a house there. The guy wants to formalize/legalize their business relationship already or something like that, so Orly tells him that Angelica will be coming to set things up, blah, blah blah. Ok, see you and Cami here in Houston the day after tomorrow. More uneasiness from Orly.

Pal prays in her room for Dr. B. to be found safe and sound. Carlota comes in says she and Rufi can stay there as long as they want. Pal says that in addition to Dr. B, she’s upset about Gabriel, who left town without saying goodbye. Carlota takes this opportunity to observe that that was to be expected seeing as how he’s dying and all. Oops, you didn’t know about that? Pal flips out.

Romi is trying to access her bank account online before she writes her dad a check but can’t get the computer to connect. He’s all nervous and wants her to write the check right away. She tells him that all this stuff he told her better be true. Oh, and I don’t like it one bit that you had a romance with my husband’s mother. Sam claims there was nothing between them. Cami arrives and asks what Sam is doing there.

Carlota lies that they discovered Gabe’s illness recently, so Pal takes that to mean that he got sick when he arrived in Real del Monte and therefore it’s all her fault, because everyone that loves her dies.

Camila is outraged upon learning that Romi was going to write her father a check and she and Sam start arguing. She yells at him about taking the deeds to Di’s house and Romi is shocked. The phone rings, and the maid answers it and tells whoever is on the line that Romi and her mom are fighting with Romi’s dad.

German meets with Eugenio and hints that he has some good dirt on Carlota relating to what happened with Dr. B.

Romi asks if Sam swindled Diana. Cami grabs her phone and says let’s call right now and find out, but Sam grabs her arm and puts her in a choke hold. When Romi demands that he let Cami go, he yells for her to give him the check, so she goes to write it while Cami tells her not to give him anything.

Pal cries while reading Gabe’s letter (we hear his voice saying the words), but I’m so distracted by the inappropriateness of his peppy song playing in the background while she’s all weepy, that I don’t really care what the letter says. Something about how he has other plans that he’d rather not share with her because it’s better that way, and he’s leaving his legacy to her, and don’t look for him, he hates goodbyes.

Sam shoves Cami to the couch and demands that Romi sign the check. She calls him a coward and he grabs her and shoves her. Rafa arrives and he and Sam start throwing punches.

German tells Eugenio he thought that what Carlota proposed (to German) might interest him. Although German told Carlota to take a hike, Eugenio wants him to go back to her and say that she can count on him after all. Listen well to what you are going to do.

The scuffle continues between Sam and Rafa. Cami calls the cops but Romi protests because she doesn’t want her dad to get in trouble. Cami can’t believe Romi is still defending him. Sam calls Cami a whore and they yell at each other some more. Rafa tells Sam that he’s going to pay for everything he has done while slamming Sam’s face in the wall.

Pal talks with Rufi about Gabe--she thinks maybe he hid his illness from her because she had mentioned to him once that everyone that loved her ended up dying, and he didn’t want to worry her. Rufi advises her to talk to Gabe--ask Luz or Eugenio to put you in touch with him. Pal thinks she loves him more than she thought (but not more than Emil because she’ll never love again the way she loved Emil--oh, the tragedy). Rufi tells her not to let Gabe go.

The police--including the same guy who was investigating Dr. B’s case earlier--come to take Sam away. Romi is only worried about what the neighbors must think about all this. The cop says Romi has to come to the station to make a statement but Romi doesn’t want to; Rafa and Cami manage to convince her to go. Cami thanks Rafa for his help.

Romi tries calling Emil but he doesn’t answer. She looks on sadly as the police car takes her father away and worries about him being left in jail.

Emil sees Pal walking down the street and runs up to ask if there’s any news about Dr. B. She informs him that Gabe is out of her life and starts up again with her sobbing-heaving-speed-talking that is like nails on a chalkboard to me about how she’s destined to be alone and how marrying Romi was the best thing for him because it keeps him away from her and the bad luck she causes everyone she loves. Emil asks what Gabe has to do with it but she just walks off.

In Mexico City, Gabe is at a doctor appointment mooning about how he misses Pal. The doc comes in and says that his heart is responding well (though he should have died 15 years ago). Doc asks if Gabe has done anything different to feel connected with life; Gabe admits he fell in love for the first time. The doctor thinks the desire to live and love are strengthening his heart.

Pal calls Luz to ask for the truth about Gabe; she tells Pal to find Eugenio.

Carlota talks to herself about how she was able to keep Pal from leaving and, even better, she won’t have to get rid of Gabe. But she’s worried about the situation with Dr. B.--where is his body? Because he’s got to be dead, I killed him.

Avances: Someone calls Carlota with a message from Dr. B. saying he's not dead, and Emil walks in on Romi and German in bed together.

ENDA, Feb. 10, 2010

Emiliano remembering Paloma and Gabriel together at various places. Also remembering Paloma telling him that Gabriel is the guy she wants to be with. Emiliano crying and swearing that she will be his.

Dr. Bermudez getting ready for bed and Carloca steps out from behind the screen. He asks what are you doing here. Carloca tells him that she always gets what she wants. What do you want asks Dr. Bermudez. Do you really think that you can steal Paloma away from me asks Carloca. She's not yours replies Dr. Bermudez. She is 18 now and can do what she pleases. And I'm going to help her. So leave my house! I will leave but before...Carloca pulls a gun and points it at him. He yells out are you crazy? Calm down, calm down! Carloca fires her gun and he looks at her in shock, falls on his knees and then lies on the floor. Die says Carloca.

Its morning in Unreal de Monte and Carloca comes in with Rufi singing happy birthday to Paloma. Paloma smiles and thanks them. Rufi tells her to make a wish and blow out her candle. Carloca asks Paloma what time did she get home? Like you don't know replies Paloma. I don't replies Carloca. I stopped watching now that your 18 and this will be your last day here. How was the party? Paloma says it was wonderful. Carloca gives her a present and says it's her inheritance that her mother left her. (Carloca's mother) Rufi is like what? I thought that it was left to Macarena. Then why would I have it if it was Macarena's replies Carloca. We each took care of our own things. Yes, but Macarena had nothing of value except the necklace that Paloma's father gave her says Rufi. But her mother's jewelry, I never saw. Perhaps she got rid of them replies Carloca. She had the same amount as I says Carloca. I felt today was the day to give this to my niece. In reality you are my only family. Paloma thanks her. Carloca asks her not to get rid of it. That was the only jewelry she inherited from her mother. Paloma promises to take care of it.

Emiliano is having breakfast and Anamar shows up. Did you get my messages asks Anamar. Yes, but I came home late and didn't want to bother you. I don't mind how late it was says Anamar. Emiliano invites her to eat breakfast with him so they can talk about what she wanted to tell him. Anamar says if you need me even only as a friend then I'll stay. Emiliano says what's more important is what you want. I want to stay replies Anamar. But that depends on you. Emiliano tells her to do what you want, not what I want. I can only be your friend. Anamar decides to stay for her. (Yeah right)
